Las Vegas Sands CEO

Sheldon Adelson, the American casino owner and Las Vegas Sands CEO is one of the wealthiest men in America -- currently Sheldon Adelson is listed as the 5th, and is just shy of the top 15 wealthiest people in the world. As the Las Vegas Sands CEO he filed for an initial public offering in December of 2004, after which his net worth increased dramatically, leaving him with a net worth at the time of $23.3 billion.

Sheldon Anderson was born in 1933 in the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts. He studied in college at the City College of New York, but dropped out before completing his degree. Sheldon Anderson began his career as an investment adviser, financial consultant, and mortgage broker, and was also the founder of a business that sold toiletry kits. In the 1960s he began a different business that sold chartered tours, but his best investments didn’t come from any of these.

Sheldon Anderson received the majority of his early wealth and investments through the computer trade show COMDEX. Partners and Sheldon Anderson developed this conference for those in the computer industry to meet and collaborate, beginning in 1979. Through most of the 1980s and 1990s COMDEX remained the main trade show for the computer industry, and long before he was the Las Vegas Sands CEO Sheldon Anderson made a large amount of money remaining at the head of it.

It was in 1988 that Sheldon Anderson and his partners decided it would be wise to purchase the classic lounge favorite of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack known as the Sands Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sheldon Anderson was quickly instated as the Las Vegas Sands CEO, and began using the hotel to expand his interests in the exhibition and conference industry. Later he and his co-founders built the first privately-owned convention center in the United States, the Sands Expo and Convention Center.

In 1991 the Las Vegas Sands CEO, Sheldon Anderson, razed his initial investment to construct the Venitian, the ultra-luxurious Las Vegas hotel, becoming a mainstay of the Las Vegas hotel and lodging industry. Since that time Sheldon Anderson has extended the Sands reign and name to other gambling cities in China, Macau, Singapore, and other international locations, often as the first large casino to enter those territories.
