Chart: How Warren Buffett’s Twitter Account Exploded

Well, it finally happened.

At 12:20 p.m. EST, the 82-year-old CEO of Berkshire Hathaway tweeted for the very first time.

“You can teach an old dog new tricks,” Warren Buffett joked. The tweet came today in the middle of a discussion about women in leadership positions during his first-ever social interview.

Hesitating to post the tweet, Buffett was asked whether he understood how Twitter worked. His answer?

“So-so.”

Either way, it didn’t take long for the Twittersphere to explode. When Oracle CEO Larry Ellison joined Twitter last year, he gained about 24,000 followers his first day. Buffett hit that number in 24 minutes.

We’ve been tracking the Buffett-mania on Twitter every 10 minutes for three hours. Take a look:

At this pace, for every 100 of his tweets, Buffett would get more than a million retweets. Watch your back, Justin Bieber.
