# Seth Sternberg doesn't build dancing pixels anymore

Seth Sternberg has a rule for what deserves his time. He set it with his co-founders after they sold their first company. Only work on a hard problem. Only work on something where you can look a person in the eye and know you are making their life fundamentally better. Only work on something that reaches millions of people.

"I think if you use that as the bar for what you want to work on, it's a very, very high bar," Sternberg said on the CEO.com Podcast. "Bluntly, I think a lot of the things happening today, if people had held themselves to that bar, society might be in a better place."

Sternberg knows what it feels like to clear a lower bar. His first company, Meebo, brought instant messaging to the web and [sold to Google in 2012](https://techcrunch.com/2021/10/05/senior-care-startup-honor-secures-370m-in-debt-and-equity-reaches-unicorn-status/?ref=ceo.com). By any conventional measure it was a success. He does not describe it that way.

"At some point I stopped caring about it because I kind of saw it as what I now call a dancing pixels company," he said. "It was fun. It was cute. But it wasn't fundamentally altering people's lives for the better."

The problem that cleared his new bar found him. While at Google, Sternberg ran into a care issue with his mother. He started looking at how society cares for older adults and discovered that technology had mostly ignored them. The demographics made the stakes obvious. The [U.S. Census Bureau projects](https://www.census.gov/newsroom/press-releases/2018/cb18-41-population-projections.html?ref=ceo.com) that by 2034, Americans 65 and older will outnumber children under 18 for the first time in the nation's history. The over-80 population, Sternberg notes, is growing even faster. People are living longer and having fewer kids at the same time.

"How are we going to take care of those people?" Sternberg said. "Technology has got to be part of the answer."

Honor Technology, which Sternberg co-founded in 2014, sends Care Pros into the homes of older adults to help with the activities of daily living: getting food, getting dressed, taking medications, bathing. If a person cannot do two of those activities, they can no longer live alone. Honor's job is to keep that day as far away as possible.

The industry Honor entered was massive and broken in a specific way. Sternberg sizes home care at $85 billion, spread across hundreds of thousands of participants worldwide, nearly all of them tiny. Nobody had ever scaled in-home care delivery. Sternberg believes Honor is the first to do it, and he credits an AI system the company started building a decade ago, long before the technology became fashionable.

The proof came in 2021, when Honor [acquired Home Instead](https://www.homeinstead.com/news-and-media/honor-acquires-home-instead/?ref=ceo.com), the world's largest home care network, creating a combined organization with more than $2.1 billion in home care services revenue. Two months later, Honor [closed $370 million in equity and debt financing](https://www.honorcare.com/news/honor-tech-series-e-unicorn-home-care/?ref=ceo.com), valuing the company at over $1.25 billion. Today the Home Instead network supports more than 100,000 Care Pros delivering over [60 million hours of care annually](https://www.homeinstead.com/news-and-media/home-instead-recognized-on-newsweeks-americas-best-customer-service-list/?ref=ceo.com).

The AI is not decoration. Honor uses it to match each client with the right Care Pro, to design jobs that keep Care Pros from quitting, and to predict three days in advance whether a Care Pro is likely to miss a shift so the client still gets care.

"When your product requires demystifying really complicated things that involve a ton of nuance and personalization, that's where AI absolutely shines," Sternberg said.

Sternberg has little patience for how his industry allocates its attention. He notes that tech media celebrates investors more than builders. "We celebrate the Midas List. We celebrate the asset allocators rather than the operators actually building things," he said. "Why are we celebrating them instead of the players actually on the field building companies?"

His diagnosis of the cause is blunt: part profit motive, part power motive. His prescription is the same test he applies to himself. Is what you are building world good? Is it world neutral? Or is it actively destructive?

Inside Honor, Sternberg runs the company on leadership principles drawn from 20 years of lessons, embedded in hiring, performance management, and decision-making. One cultural rule stands out: talk it out directly in the room. If something presented to 20 people seems wrong, waiting to raise it privately means 18 people walk away with the wrong impression. Honor does not wait.

His own days break into four categories: team, communication, unexpected problems, and what he calls "kink the curve" activities, ideas that might alter the company's trajectory. "I have tons of those ideas," he said. "Most of them suck. I hand them to the team, and occasionally one of them is actually good."

On when CEOs should speak publicly, Sternberg draws the line at expertise. He will talk about the ethics of AI. He will talk about immigration, a topic most CEOs avoid, because his business depends on a workforce that demographics say the country does not have. "We literally need more people to help care for an aging population that's going to outnumber the young very soon," he said. "That's not partisan. It's just reality." Outside his lane, he is comfortable saying he does not know enough to weigh in.

What worries him most is not a business problem. It is the default demonization of the other side in American life. He no longer wants his kids watching political debates. "When I was a kid, you watched presidential debates to hear substantive discussions about policy and learn how the world worked," he said. "Now I wouldn't let my kids watch one unless I wanted them learning how to name-call and insult people."

His answer is not despair. It is the same focus he preaches in company building. Every successful person, he argues, should be working on one focused project that pushes the world forward. "Sitting around saying the world is messed up and I can't do anything about it is bullshit," he said. "You can do something about it, but you have to put energy into it."

At CEO.com, we believe the chances one gives are just as important as the chances one takes. For Sternberg, that chance came at IBM, his first job out of Yale. Eight months in, his bosses handed the 23-year-old financial analyst a small $5 million M&A deal. Sternberg restructured it into a $30 million deal, then waited for someone to take it away from him. His boss Bob Pemberton and Dave Johnson, who ran corporate development, refused. Negotiate it end to end, they told him. Just go do it.

"Those two guys let me do something they absolutely should not have let me do at IBM in the early 2000s," Sternberg said. "But it also showed me what I was capable of."

It is a fitting origin story for a man whose closing argument is about legacy. Every person, Sternberg points out, will eventually be two weeks away from dying. The money will not matter. The power will not matter. "What do you want your legacy to be?" he asked. "If your legacy is that you genuinely improved people's lives, I think that matters enormously."

00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:02.440
Chad,<00:00:00.240> thank<00:00:00.440> you<00:00:00.520> so<00:00:00.600> much<00:00:00.760> for<00:00:00.880> coming<00:00:01.080> on<00:00:01.160> the<00:00:01.240> show.<00:00:01.640> Honored<00:00:01.960> to<00:00:02.040> have<00:00:02.320> you.

00:00:02.440 --> 00:00:05.840
You're<00:00:02.560> the<00:00:02.680> co-founder<00:00:03.360> and<00:00:03.480> CEO<00:00:04.240> of<00:00:04.440> Honor<00:00:04.720> Technology.

00:00:05.840 --> 00:00:10.800
Now,<00:00:05.920> list<00:00:06.120> what<00:00:06.360> Honor<00:00:06.560> Technology<00:00:07.160> is.<00:00:08.080> Yeah,<00:00:08.280> so<00:00:08.600> we<00:00:08.800> help<00:00:09.040> older<00:00:09.320> adults<00:00:09.680> stay<00:00:09.880> in<00:00:09.960> their<00:00:10.080> homes<00:00:10.280> as<00:00:10.400> they<00:00:10.520> age.

00:00:10.800 --> 00:00:17.720
That's<00:00:10.920> what<00:00:11.000> we<00:00:11.120> do<00:00:11.240> today.<00:00:12.160> Um,<00:00:12.480> we<00:00:12.680> founded<00:00:13.200> the<00:00:13.320> company<00:00:13.880> with<00:00:14.080> the<00:00:14.160> mission<00:00:14.480> of<00:00:14.600> changing<00:00:15.080> the<00:00:15.200> way<00:00:15.480> society<00:00:16.080> cares<00:00:16.360> for<00:00:16.520> older<00:00:16.760> adults.

00:00:17.720 --> 00:00:26.480
This<00:00:18.040> really<00:00:18.240> big<00:00:18.400> problem<00:00:18.800> I<00:00:18.880> ran<00:00:19.120> into<00:00:19.720> an<00:00:19.880> issue<00:00:20.080> with<00:00:20.200> my<00:00:20.320> mother<00:00:20.640> and<00:00:20.760> I<00:00:20.840> realized<00:00:21.920> kind<00:00:22.040> of<00:00:22.200> tech<00:00:22.440> land<00:00:23.480> really<00:00:23.760> never<00:00:24.000> thought<00:00:24.200> about<00:00:24.720> older<00:00:25.000> adults<00:00:25.640> for<00:00:26.240> kind

00:00:26.480 --> 00:00:33.760
of<00:00:26.560> seemingly<00:00:27.000> obvious<00:00:27.360> reasons.<00:00:28.360> But<00:00:28.440> then<00:00:28.600> you<00:00:28.680> say,<00:00:28.920> "Okay,<00:00:29.160> well,<00:00:29.320> we've<00:00:29.480> got<00:00:29.720> like<00:00:29.920> an<00:00:30.080> exploding<00:00:30.720> population<00:00:31.840> in<00:00:32.119> the<00:00:32.240> aging<00:00:32.560> space."

00:00:33.760 --> 00:00:40.520
Um,<00:00:34.000> there<00:00:34.120> actually<00:00:34.360> going<00:00:34.480> to<00:00:34.520> be<00:00:34.600> more<00:00:34.960> people<00:00:35.480> over<00:00:35.720> the<00:00:35.840> age<00:00:36.000> of<00:00:36.080> 65<00:00:37.120> than<00:00:37.360> under<00:00:37.680> 18<00:00:38.160> in<00:00:38.280> the<00:00:38.320> United<00:00:38.600> States<00:00:39.400> in<00:00:39.600> 2034.

00:00:40.520 --> 00:00:46.640
So,<00:00:40.640> we're<00:00:40.800> less<00:00:41.080> than<00:00:41.400> 10<00:00:41.720> years<00:00:42.040> away<00:00:42.920> from<00:00:43.320> more<00:00:43.520> old<00:00:43.680> people<00:00:44.200> than<00:00:44.320> young<00:00:44.520> people,<00:00:44.960> which<00:00:45.160> is<00:00:45.400> kind<00:00:45.560> of<00:00:45.640> nutty.

00:00:46.640 --> 00:00:49.040
And<00:00:46.760> you<00:00:46.840> say,<00:00:47.000> "Okay,<00:00:47.200> well,<00:00:47.520> how<00:00:47.640> are<00:00:47.720> we<00:00:47.760> going<00:00:47.880> to<00:00:47.960> take<00:00:48.120> care<00:00:48.240> of<00:00:48.320> those<00:00:48.520> people?

00:00:49.040 --> 00:00:53.120
How<00:00:49.160> are<00:00:49.280> we<00:00:49.360> going<00:00:49.480> to<00:00:49.560> society<00:00:50.160> handle<00:00:50.480> this?<00:00:51.360> Technology's<00:00:51.880> got<00:00:52.040> to<00:00:52.120> be<00:00:52.240> part<00:00:52.440> of<00:00:52.520> the<00:00:52.640> answer."

00:00:53.120 --> 00:01:00.920
So,<00:00:53.640> in<00:00:53.800> today's<00:00:54.160> world,<00:00:55.040> we<00:00:55.400> help<00:00:55.600> people<00:00:55.880> stay<00:00:56.000> in<00:00:56.080> their<00:00:56.160> homes<00:00:56.360> as<00:00:56.480> they<00:00:56.640> age,<00:00:57.480> but<00:00:57.600> you<00:00:57.680> have<00:00:57.800> to<00:00:57.880> have<00:00:58.000> this<00:00:58.160> like<00:00:58.920> view<00:00:59.320> to<00:00:59.480> the<00:00:59.600> future,<00:01:00.080> which<00:01:00.320> is<00:01:00.600> we<00:01:00.720> have<00:01:00.840> to

00:01:00.920 --> 00:01:04.720
really<00:01:01.200> fundamentally<00:01:01.760> change<00:01:02.200> how<00:01:02.360> we<00:01:02.480> care<00:01:02.800> for<00:01:02.960> older<00:01:03.200> adults.

00:01:04.720 --> 00:01:09.600
Particularly<00:01:05.349> as<00:01:05.977> life,<00:01:06.606> uh,<00:01:07.234> expectancy<00:01:07.863> goes<00:01:08.491> longer,<00:01:09.120> right?

00:01:09.600 --> 00:01:12.480
I<00:01:09.640> mean,<00:01:09.800> is<00:01:10.120> that<00:01:10.360> also<00:01:10.680> true?<00:01:10.960> Like,<00:01:11.240> is<00:01:11.480> that<00:01:11.680> happening?

00:01:12.480 --> 00:01:20.240
Well,<00:01:12.800> it's<00:01:13.040> two<00:01:13.240> things.<00:01:13.480> So,<00:01:13.600> yeah,<00:01:13.960> like<00:01:14.320> the<00:01:14.480> stat<00:01:14.840> on<00:01:14.960> that<00:01:15.320> is<00:01:15.640> is<00:01:16.040> the<00:01:16.240> older<00:01:16.600> you<00:01:16.760> go,<00:01:17.920> the<00:01:18.200> faster<00:01:18.920> that<00:01:19.160> population<00:01:19.760> is<00:01:19.880> growing.

00:01:20.240 --> 00:01:26.680
So,<00:01:20.400> for<00:01:20.520> example,<00:01:20.920> the<00:01:21.280> over<00:01:21.720> 80<00:01:22.000> population<00:01:22.600> will<00:01:22.760> roughly<00:01:23.080> triple<00:01:24.080> where<00:01:24.240> the<00:01:24.400> over<00:01:24.600> 65<00:01:25.200> population<00:01:25.720> will<00:01:25.840> roughly<00:01:26.160> double.

00:01:26.680 --> 00:01:32.080
So,<00:01:26.760> people<00:01:27.040> are<00:01:27.120> living<00:01:27.400> longer.<00:01:28.440> Um,<00:01:28.800> at<00:01:28.920> the<00:01:29.040> same<00:01:29.400> time<00:01:29.680> though,<00:01:29.960> people<00:01:30.200> are<00:01:30.240> having<00:01:30.520> many<00:01:30.720> less<00:01:30.920> kids.

00:01:32.080 --> 00:01:40.320
Right?<00:01:32.480> So,<00:01:32.600> you've<00:01:32.760> both<00:01:33.000> got<00:01:33.560> this<00:01:33.840> like<00:01:34.200> big<00:01:34.600> wave<00:01:35.040> from<00:01:35.160> the<00:01:35.280> baby<00:01:35.640> boom<00:01:35.880> era<00:01:36.520> kind<00:01:36.680> of<00:01:36.920> aging<00:01:37.520> into<00:01:38.200> being<00:01:38.480> an<00:01:38.600> older<00:01:38.880> adult<00:01:39.280> who<00:01:39.520> will<00:01:39.800> end<00:01:39.960> up<00:01:40.080> needing

00:01:40.320 --> 00:01:49.000
some<00:01:40.480> kind<00:01:40.640> of<00:01:40.720> help.<00:01:41.800> But,<00:01:42.400> you<00:01:42.560> also<00:01:42.800> have<00:01:43.320> a<00:01:43.440> much<00:01:43.880> lower<00:01:44.160> replacement<00:01:44.800> rate<00:01:46.000> in<00:01:46.320> childbirth.

00:01:49.000 --> 00:01:53.080
And<00:01:49.160> so,<00:01:49.360> how<00:01:49.520> do<00:01:49.680> you<00:01:50.000> help?<00:01:50.440> Like,<00:01:50.640> give<00:01:50.760> us<00:01:50.880> a<00:01:50.960> sense<00:01:51.240> for<00:01:51.440> what<00:01:51.800> what<00:01:52.040> Honor<00:01:52.280> does.

00:01:53.080 --> 00:02:01.200
Yeah,<00:01:53.476> so<00:01:53.872> we,<00:01:54.267> um,<00:01:54.663> first<00:01:55.059> created<00:01:55.455> the<00:01:55.851> the<00:01:56.246> kind<00:01:56.642> of<00:01:57.038> system<00:01:57.434> that<00:01:57.829> can<00:01:58.225> actually<00:01:58.621> scale<00:01:59.017> in-home<00:01:59.413> care<00:01:59.808> for<00:02:00.204> older<00:02:00.600> adults.

00:02:01.200 --> 00:02:05.000
So,<00:02:01.520> what<00:02:01.680> that<00:02:01.880> is<00:02:02.040> is<00:02:02.240> there's<00:02:02.440> this<00:02:02.560> home<00:02:02.840> there's<00:02:03.000> this<00:02:03.160> industry<00:02:03.520> called<00:02:03.720> home<00:02:03.880> care.

00:02:05.000 --> 00:02:13.560
And<00:02:05.080> it's<00:02:05.240> basically<00:02:05.720> that<00:02:05.920> a<00:02:06.520> what's<00:02:06.760> called<00:02:06.920> a<00:02:07.000> personal<00:02:07.400> care<00:02:07.640> aide,<00:02:07.760> we<00:02:07.880> call<00:02:08.000> them<00:02:08.160> a<00:02:08.200> care<00:02:08.720> care<00:02:08.920> pro,<00:02:09.920> will<00:02:10.200> go<00:02:10.640> into<00:02:10.960> the<00:02:11.040> home<00:02:11.240> of<00:02:11.360> an<00:02:11.480> older<00:02:11.720> adult<00:02:12.520> and<00:02:12.760> help<00:02:13.120> them

00:02:13.560 --> 00:02:17.560
live<00:02:13.800> their<00:02:13.959> lives<00:02:14.280> in<00:02:14.360> that<00:02:14.560> home.<00:02:14.840> So,<00:02:15.000> help<00:02:15.280> them<00:02:15.720> get<00:02:16.000> food,<00:02:16.440> help<00:02:16.680> them<00:02:16.880> get<00:02:17.120> dressed.

00:02:17.560 --> 00:02:21.000
There's<00:02:17.760> a<00:02:17.840> thing<00:02:18.000> called<00:02:18.200> an<00:02:18.440> ADL,<00:02:19.040> an<00:02:19.160> activity<00:02:19.640> of<00:02:19.720> daily<00:02:20.000> living.

00:02:21.000 --> 00:02:28.440
And<00:02:21.080> if<00:02:21.200> you<00:02:21.600> can't<00:02:22.120> do<00:02:22.560> two<00:02:23.080> ADLs,<00:02:24.520> that's<00:02:25.000> the<00:02:25.160> point<00:02:25.520> at<00:02:25.640> which<00:02:25.959> you<00:02:26.080> actually<00:02:26.360> can't<00:02:26.720> live<00:02:26.840> alone<00:02:27.120> any<00:02:27.280> longer.

00:02:28.440 --> 00:02:36.640
And<00:02:28.640> so,<00:02:29.360> what<00:02:29.600> we<00:02:29.800> do<00:02:30.000> is<00:02:30.120> help<00:02:30.360> people<00:02:30.800> with<00:02:31.120> those<00:02:31.400> ADLs,<00:02:31.880> with<00:02:32.000> those<00:02:32.200> activities<00:02:32.760> of<00:02:32.840> daily<00:02:33.080> living,<00:02:33.320> which<00:02:33.480> are<00:02:33.600> simple<00:02:34.040> as<00:02:34.280> get<00:02:34.600> food<00:02:35.400> to<00:02:35.560> as<00:02:35.680> complicated<00:02:36.440> as

00:02:36.640 --> 00:02:39.320
like,<00:02:36.920> "Hey,<00:02:37.080> we<00:02:37.200> have<00:02:37.320> to<00:02:37.440> take<00:02:37.760> medicines<00:02:38.200> right<00:02:38.400> now."

00:02:39.320 --> 00:02:44.360
Or<00:02:39.840> we,<00:02:40.240> you<00:02:40.320> know,<00:02:40.440> have<00:02:40.680> to<00:02:40.800> go,<00:02:41.480> um,<00:02:41.840> to<00:02:41.959> the<00:02:42.040> bathroom<00:02:42.400> right<00:02:42.560> now<00:02:42.760> or<00:02:42.920> take<00:02:43.080> a<00:02:43.120> bath<00:02:43.440> right<00:02:43.640> now.

00:02:44.360 --> 00:02:51.720
So,<00:02:44.560> it's<00:02:44.720> everything<00:02:45.120> to<00:02:45.200> help<00:02:45.400> people<00:02:45.640> live<00:02:45.800> their<00:02:46.000> lives<00:02:46.480> in<00:02:46.600> their<00:02:46.760> homes,<00:02:47.080> and<00:02:47.160> we<00:02:47.240> do<00:02:47.400> that<00:02:47.600> by<00:02:47.720> sending<00:02:48.200> in<00:02:48.320> a<00:02:48.360> care<00:02:48.640> pro<00:02:48.959> who<00:02:49.240> works<00:02:49.560> with<00:02:49.680> that<00:02:49.880> person.

00:02:51.720 --> 00:02:58.000
So,<00:02:51.959> what<00:02:52.200> made<00:02:52.480> you,<00:02:52.800> cuz,<00:02:53.000> cuz<00:02:53.760> if<00:02:53.920> I<00:02:53.959> remember<00:02:54.280> this,<00:02:54.560> you<00:02:54.720> sold<00:02:54.959> your<00:02:55.160> you<00:02:55.320> sold<00:02:55.600> your<00:02:56.160> first<00:02:56.520> company<00:02:57.000> to<00:02:57.160> Google.

Yeah,<00:03:24.519> um,<00:03:24.840> there's<00:03:25.120> two<00:03:25.280> things.<00:03:26.200> The<00:03:26.320> first<00:03:26.600> company<00:03:27.239> I<00:03:27.280> did<00:03:27.519> Mebo,<00:03:28.160> which<00:03:28.360> we<00:03:28.440> sold<00:03:28.640> to<00:03:28.720> Google.

00:03:29.880 --> 00:03:36.760
Um,<00:03:30.560> you<00:03:30.640> know,<00:03:30.800> to<00:03:30.920> be<00:03:31.040> like<00:03:31.239> totally<00:03:31.480> blunt,<00:03:31.880> at<00:03:32.000> some<00:03:32.160> point<00:03:32.400> I<00:03:32.440> stopped<00:03:32.720> caring<00:03:33.000> about<00:03:33.280> it,<00:03:33.920> um,<00:03:34.280> because<00:03:34.600> I<00:03:34.680> kind<00:03:34.840> of<00:03:34.920> saw<00:03:35.120> it<00:03:35.200> as<00:03:35.320> what<00:03:35.440> I<00:03:35.519> now<00:03:35.720> call<00:03:35.959> a<00:03:36.000> dancing<00:03:36.440> pixel

00:03:36.760 --> 00:03:39.959
company.<00:03:37.120> It's<00:03:37.280> like<00:03:38.080> it<00:03:38.200> was<00:03:38.400> fun,<00:03:38.680> it<00:03:38.800> was<00:03:38.920> cute.

00:03:39.959 --> 00:03:43.959
It<00:03:40.160> wasn't<00:03:40.640> fundamentally<00:03:41.519> altering<00:03:41.959> people's<00:03:42.360> lives<00:03:42.640> for<00:03:42.760> the<00:03:42.840> better.

00:03:43.959 --> 00:03:48.640
Um,<00:03:44.400> and<00:03:44.519> I<00:03:44.560> think<00:03:44.720> if<00:03:44.840> you<00:03:45.000> use<00:03:45.200> that<00:03:45.400> bar<00:03:45.720> for<00:03:45.880> what<00:03:46.040> you<00:03:46.160> want<00:03:46.280> to<00:03:46.320> work<00:03:46.560> on,<00:03:46.720> that's<00:03:46.920> a<00:03:46.959> very<00:03:47.160> very<00:03:47.400> high<00:03:47.600> bar.

00:03:48.640 --> 00:03:54.680
Um,<00:03:49.280> bluntly,<00:03:49.640> I<00:03:49.680> think<00:03:49.880> a<00:03:50.000> a<00:03:50.080> of<00:03:50.160> things<00:03:50.360> that<00:03:50.440> are<00:03:50.519> happening<00:03:50.959> today,<00:03:51.320> like<00:03:51.519> if<00:03:51.640> people<00:03:51.920> had<00:03:52.080> held<00:03:52.320> themselves<00:03:52.720> to<00:03:52.800> that<00:03:53.000> bar,<00:03:53.280> maybe<00:03:53.600> society<00:03:54.080> would<00:03:54.200> be<00:03:54.320> in<00:03:54.400> a<00:03:54.440> better

00:03:54.680 --> 00:03:58.560
place.<00:03:55.400> Yeah,<00:03:55.600> for<00:03:55.760> sure.<00:03:56.080> Um,<00:03:56.120> but<00:03:56.440> it's<00:03:56.640> the<00:03:56.680> bar<00:03:56.880> I<00:03:56.920> hold<00:03:57.160> myself<00:03:57.560> to.

00:03:58.560 --> 00:04:04.760
Um,<00:03:59.320> and<00:03:59.440> so<00:03:59.560> when<00:03:59.680> I<00:03:59.720> was<00:03:59.840> at<00:03:59.920> Google<00:04:00.320> then,<00:04:00.800> after<00:04:01.040> having<00:04:01.280> sold<00:04:01.600> it<00:04:01.720> and<00:04:01.840> kind<00:04:02.000> of<00:04:02.080> said,<00:04:02.400> "Hey,<00:04:02.600> what<00:04:02.760> do<00:04:02.920> what<00:04:03.040> do<00:04:03.160> we,<00:04:03.440> like<00:04:03.680> the<00:04:03.760> co-founders<00:04:04.240> and<00:04:04.320> I,<00:04:04.400> want<00:04:04.600> to<00:04:04.640> work

on<00:04:04.880> next?"<00:04:06.000> The<00:04:06.120> rules<00:04:06.480> were<00:04:07.160> a<00:04:07.280> hard<00:04:07.600> problem<00:04:08.520> where<00:04:08.680> we<00:04:08.800> could<00:04:08.920> look<00:04:09.480> a<00:04:09.520> person<00:04:09.800> in<00:04:09.840> the<00:04:10.080> eye<00:04:10.160> and<00:04:10.240> know<00:04:10.400> that<00:04:10.520> we<00:04:10.600> would<00:04:10.720> make<00:04:10.880> their<00:04:11.000> lives<00:04:11.320> fundamentally<00:04:11.800> better.

00:04:12.640 --> 00:04:20.239
And<00:04:12.720> it<00:04:12.840> had<00:04:13.000> to<00:04:13.040> be<00:04:13.160> millions,<00:04:13.560> not<00:04:13.760> one.<00:04:14.480> And<00:04:15.000> the<00:04:15.160> hard<00:04:15.600> problem<00:04:16.160> part<00:04:16.680> turns<00:04:17.000> out<00:04:17.200> to<00:04:17.280> be<00:04:17.440> that<00:04:18.320> if<00:04:18.440> you<00:04:18.600> want<00:04:18.799> to<00:04:18.880> solve<00:04:19.160> how<00:04:19.239> do<00:04:19.320> we<00:04:19.400> care<00:04:19.560> for<00:04:19.680> older<00:04:19.880> adults,<00:04:20.120> that

00:04:20.239 --> 00:04:22.960
is<00:04:20.359> like<00:04:20.519> a<00:04:20.640> super<00:04:21.359> deep<00:04:21.600> tech<00:04:21.799> problem.

00:04:22.960 --> 00:04:24.880
Like<00:04:23.320> home<00:04:23.600> care<00:04:23.880> is<00:04:24.000> a<00:04:24.080> very<00:04:24.280> large<00:04:24.520> industry.

00:04:24.880 --> 00:04:33.600
It's<00:04:25.000> an<00:04:25.080> $85<00:04:25.480> billion<00:04:25.760> industry.<00:04:26.760> But<00:04:26.919> it<00:04:27.040> is<00:04:27.200> one<00:04:27.400> that<00:04:27.640> has<00:04:27.960> just<00:04:28.720> hundreds<00:04:29.320> of<00:04:29.440> thousands<00:04:30.000> worldwide<00:04:30.480> of<00:04:30.560> participants<00:04:31.240> in<00:04:31.360> it<00:04:32.200> who<00:04:32.360> are<00:04:32.640> all<00:04:32.919> subscale.

00:04:33.600 --> 00:04:40.800
They're<00:04:33.760> all<00:04:33.880> like<00:04:34.120> very,<00:04:34.480> very<00:04:34.720> tiny<00:04:35.120> because<00:04:35.400> no<00:04:35.680> one<00:04:35.840> has<00:04:36.040> ever<00:04:36.320> been<00:04:36.560> able<00:04:36.840> to<00:04:37.000> scale<00:04:38.080> the<00:04:38.200> provision<00:04:38.680> of<00:04:38.800> home<00:04:39.000> care<00:04:39.240> to<00:04:39.440> an<00:04:39.520> older<00:04:39.760> adult.

00:04:40.800 --> 00:04:42.960
So<00:04:41.000> we<00:04:41.200> are<00:04:41.320> the<00:04:41.440> first<00:04:41.640> people<00:04:41.840> who<00:04:41.960> actually<00:04:42.200> can<00:04:42.360> now<00:04:42.520> do<00:04:42.720> that.

00:04:42.960 --> 00:04:50.640
We<00:04:43.040> have<00:04:43.120> an<00:04:43.240> AI<00:04:43.520> system<00:04:43.840> we<00:04:43.960> built<00:04:44.200> 10<00:04:44.440> years<00:04:44.680> ago<00:04:45.600> that<00:04:46.000> enables<00:04:46.720> us<00:04:46.880> to<00:04:47.040> scale<00:04:47.760> the<00:04:47.880> delivery<00:04:48.280> of<00:04:48.400> care<00:04:48.600> to<00:04:48.680> older<00:04:48.960> adults<00:04:49.280> in<00:04:49.360> their<00:04:49.440> homes.

00:04:50.640 --> 00:04:57.600
I<00:04:50.720> want<00:04:50.840> to<00:04:50.919> touch<00:04:51.120> on<00:04:51.200> something<00:04:51.480> you<00:04:51.560> said<00:04:51.800> there,<00:04:52.160> which<00:04:52.520> is<00:04:53.760> we've<00:04:53.960> kind<00:04:54.200> of<00:04:54.400> lost<00:04:54.919> in<00:04:55.400> the<00:04:55.520> world<00:04:55.800> of<00:04:55.919> tech<00:04:56.240> and<00:04:56.360> entrepreneurship<00:04:57.080> this<00:04:57.280> idea.

00:04:57.600 --> 00:05:03.120
I<00:04:57.640> mean,<00:04:57.800> it<00:04:57.880> used<00:04:58.080> to<00:04:58.160> be<00:04:58.280> like<00:04:58.520> a<00:04:58.560> cliché<00:04:59.040> and<00:04:59.120> we'd<00:04:59.240> get<00:04:59.400> made<00:04:59.640> fun<00:04:59.880> of<00:05:00.040> all<00:05:00.120> the<00:05:00.240> time<00:05:00.480> when<00:05:00.560> we<00:05:00.640> said<00:05:00.840> we<00:05:00.960> wanted<00:05:01.240> to<00:05:01.320> change<00:05:01.640> the<00:05:01.760> world,<00:05:02.160> right?

00:05:03.120 --> 00:05:08.800
And<00:05:03.200> in<00:05:03.280> a<00:05:03.320> lot<00:05:03.560> of<00:05:03.640> cases,<00:05:04.560> you<00:05:04.640> know,<00:05:04.840> the<00:05:04.960> entrepreneurs<00:05:05.560> and<00:05:05.680> companies<00:05:06.040> who<00:05:06.120> were<00:05:06.200> saying<00:05:06.560> that,<00:05:07.000> you<00:05:07.080> know,<00:05:07.600> you<00:05:07.720> were<00:05:07.800> like,<00:05:08.000> "What?

00:05:08.800 --> 00:05:12.600
How?<00:05:09.720> You<00:05:09.800> know,<00:05:09.960> how<00:05:10.120> does<00:05:10.360> like<00:05:10.560> this,<00:05:11.160> you<00:05:11.280> know,<00:05:11.840> change<00:05:12.120> the<00:05:12.240> world?

00:05:12.600 --> 00:05:15.120
It<00:05:12.787> doesn't<00:05:12.973> doesn't<00:05:13.160> make<00:05:13.347> tons<00:05:13.533> of<00:05:13.720> sense."<00:05:13.907> But<00:05:14.093> <00:05:14.280> Yeah.

00:05:15.120 --> 00:05:18.000
it's<00:05:15.280> almost<00:05:15.720> like<00:05:16.080> we've<00:05:16.320> gone<00:05:16.560> the<00:05:16.720> opposite<00:05:17.280> way.

00:05:18.000 --> 00:05:20.120
Like<00:05:18.200> we<00:05:18.280> don't<00:05:18.480> even<00:05:18.760> care<00:05:19.240> about<00:05:19.560> that<00:05:19.720> anymore.

00:05:20.120 --> 00:05:28.880
Or<00:05:20.400> and<00:05:20.560> the<00:05:20.680> thing<00:05:20.880> that<00:05:21.040> we<00:05:21.200> celebrate<00:05:21.960> is<00:05:22.200> more<00:05:23.520> the<00:05:23.640> high<00:05:23.880> valuations,<00:05:25.000> who's<00:05:25.280> on<00:05:25.440> the<00:05:25.560> Forbes,<00:05:26.919> you<00:05:27.000> know,<00:05:27.440> richest<00:05:28.520> list

00:05:28.880 --> 00:05:32.200
every<00:05:29.160> year<00:05:29.520> and<00:05:29.640> like<00:05:29.800> for<00:05:29.919> some<00:05:30.160> reason<00:05:30.400> those<00:05:30.640> are<00:05:30.680> the<00:05:30.800> people<00:05:31.080> we<00:05:31.240> celebrate.

00:05:32.200 --> 00:05:35.080
Why<00:05:32.360> do<00:05:32.480> you<00:05:32.600> think<00:05:32.840> that's<00:05:33.120> happening?<00:05:34.000> Yeah,<00:05:34.120> it's<00:05:34.240> a<00:05:34.280> great<00:05:34.440> question.

00:05:35.080 --> 00:05:39.600
Um,<00:05:35.280> so<00:05:35.400> I<00:05:35.440> actually<00:05:35.640> think<00:05:35.760> it's<00:05:35.840> even<00:05:36.040> worse<00:05:36.240> than<00:05:36.360> that.<00:05:36.640> I<00:05:36.680> think<00:05:36.880> that<00:05:37.120> we<00:05:37.320> celebrate<00:05:38.080> the<00:05:38.320> like<00:05:38.880> Midas<00:05:39.320> list.

00:05:39.600 --> 00:05:44.880
So<00:05:39.720> we<00:05:40.040> celebrate<00:05:40.680> the<00:05:40.960> asset<00:05:41.400> allocators<00:05:42.160> rather<00:05:42.560> than<00:05:42.960> the<00:05:43.520> operators<00:05:43.960> who<00:05:44.040> are<00:05:44.120> building<00:05:44.440> the<00:05:44.520> things.

00:05:44.880 --> 00:05:50.440
Think<00:05:45.280> about<00:05:45.480> it,<00:05:45.600> most<00:05:45.840> of<00:05:45.919> the<00:05:46.000> media<00:05:46.360> is<00:05:46.520> actually<00:05:46.880> about<00:05:47.760> the<00:05:47.880> asset<00:05:48.160> allocators,<00:05:48.680> the<00:05:49.000> VCs<00:05:49.440> or<00:05:49.520> investors.

00:05:50.440 --> 00:05:56.840
And<00:05:50.560> I<00:05:51.040> they're<00:05:51.160> great<00:05:51.400> people.<00:05:52.680> But<00:05:52.840> why<00:05:52.960> are<00:05:53.080> we<00:05:53.200> celebrating<00:05:53.680> them<00:05:53.880> and<00:05:53.960> not<00:05:54.280> like,<00:05:54.560> you<00:05:54.640> know,<00:05:54.760> the<00:05:54.840> players<00:05:55.120> on<00:05:55.240> the<00:05:55.320> field,<00:05:55.600> for<00:05:55.680> example?

00:05:56.840 --> 00:06:05.640
Um,<00:05:57.414> and<00:05:57.989> yeah,<00:05:58.563> it<00:05:59.137> is<00:05:59.711> surprising<00:06:00.286> to<00:06:00.860> me<00:06:01.434> at<00:06:02.009> some<00:06:02.583> level<00:06:03.157> not<00:06:03.731> everyone<00:06:04.306> Silicon<00:06:04.880> Valley.

00:06:05.640 --> 00:06:14.600
I've<00:06:05.800> got<00:06:06.040> lots<00:06:06.280> of<00:06:06.360> friends<00:06:07.080> who<00:06:07.280> are<00:06:07.400> working<00:06:07.760> on<00:06:07.880> these<00:06:08.040> companies<00:06:08.800> that<00:06:09.000> are<00:06:09.560> fundamentally<00:06:10.240> trying<00:06:10.440> to<00:06:10.480> improve<00:06:10.720> people's<00:06:11.040> lives<00:06:11.400> from<00:06:12.200> let's<00:06:12.520> fix<00:06:13.040> diabetes<00:06:14.200> without

00:06:14.600 --> 00:06:20.360
drug<00:06:14.840> intervention<00:06:16.080> to<00:06:16.640> let's<00:06:16.880> make<00:06:17.160> health<00:06:17.400> care<00:06:17.640> significantly<00:06:18.440> more<00:06:18.680> efficient<00:06:19.120> so<00:06:19.240> we<00:06:19.320> can<00:06:19.480> actually<00:06:19.760> reduce<00:06:20.000> costs.

00:06:20.360 --> 00:06:27.240
I<00:06:20.400> have<00:06:20.520> a<00:06:20.600> lot<00:06:20.919> of<00:06:21.040> friends<00:06:21.280> like<00:06:21.440> that.<00:06:22.760> Um,<00:06:23.200> but<00:06:23.400> then<00:06:23.560> if<00:06:23.680> you<00:06:23.800> look<00:06:23.919> at<00:06:24.040> the<00:06:24.880> and<00:06:25.000> those<00:06:25.480> happen<00:06:25.720> to<00:06:25.800> be<00:06:25.880> the<00:06:25.960> people<00:06:26.240> I'm<00:06:26.360> friends<00:06:26.640> with.

00:06:27.240 --> 00:06:35.440
Mhm.<00:06:28.000> Um,<00:06:28.600> but<00:06:28.760> then<00:06:28.919> if<00:06:29.040> you<00:06:29.280> I<00:06:29.360> think<00:06:29.600> look<00:06:29.720> at<00:06:29.800> the<00:06:29.960> bulk<00:06:30.640> of<00:06:30.800> the<00:06:30.919> stuff<00:06:31.240> that's<00:06:31.480> happening<00:06:33.120> and<00:06:33.360> you<00:06:34.080> hold<00:06:34.400> it<00:06:34.520> up<00:06:34.640> to<00:06:34.760> the<00:06:34.880> world<00:06:35.240> good

00:06:35.440 --> 00:06:38.400
litmus<00:06:35.720> test,<00:06:36.600> it<00:06:37.000> it<00:06:37.120> doesn't<00:06:37.400> pass.

00:06:38.400 --> 00:06:44.440
Um,<00:06:39.440> and<00:06:40.320> you<00:06:40.400> know,<00:06:40.520> there<00:06:40.840> and<00:06:41.040> now<00:06:41.320> we<00:06:41.440> should<00:06:41.560> be<00:06:41.680> clear,<00:06:42.000> enabling<00:06:42.520> technologies<00:06:43.160> do<00:06:43.320> pass.

00:06:44.440 --> 00:06:47.640
It's<00:06:44.520> like<00:06:44.880> AI<00:06:45.840> fundamentally<00:06:46.520> a<00:06:46.560> world<00:06:46.840> good.

00:06:47.640 --> 00:06:50.440
Mhm.<00:06:47.831> <00:06:48.022> Right?<00:06:48.213> People<00:06:48.404> are<00:06:48.596> really<00:06:48.787> excited<00:06:48.978> about<00:06:49.169> it<00:06:49.360> today.

00:06:50.440 --> 00:06:55.040
Um,<00:06:50.960> we<00:06:51.200> use<00:06:51.440> a<00:06:51.480> ton<00:06:51.760> of<00:06:51.880> it<00:06:52.240> in<00:06:52.480> order<00:06:52.680> to<00:06:52.760> make<00:06:52.960> care<00:06:53.280> better,<00:06:54.080> cheaper.

00:06:55.040 --> 00:07:03.640
That's<00:06:55.440> awesome,<00:06:56.080> right?<00:06:57.240> Um,<00:06:57.919> but<00:06:58.200> so<00:06:58.680> much<00:06:59.000> of<00:06:59.080> the<00:06:59.160> stuff<00:06:59.440> you<00:06:59.520> look<00:06:59.720> at<00:06:59.800> it<00:06:59.919> and<00:07:00.040> you<00:07:00.120> say<00:07:00.320> is<00:07:00.440> it<00:07:00.640> is<00:07:00.760> it<00:07:00.840> actually<00:07:01.080> world<00:07:01.320> good<00:07:01.600> or<00:07:01.720> is<00:07:01.840> it<00:07:01.919> actually<00:07:02.200> world<00:07:03.320> even

00:07:03.640 --> 00:07:11.160
neutral<00:07:04.080> or<00:07:04.200> is<00:07:04.280> it<00:07:04.400> just<00:07:04.520> like<00:07:04.680> destructive?<00:07:06.360> And<00:07:06.840> at<00:07:07.080> some<00:07:07.520> level<00:07:08.000> it<00:07:08.520> to<00:07:08.640> be<00:07:08.800> blunt,<00:07:09.160> I<00:07:09.200> think<00:07:09.400> it's<00:07:09.560> just<00:07:09.760> like<00:07:10.040> profit<00:07:10.440> motive,<00:07:10.800> right?

00:07:11.160 --> 00:07:17.800
Like<00:07:12.200> and<00:07:12.480> and<00:07:12.640> I<00:07:12.680> think<00:07:12.919> that<00:07:14.080> it's<00:07:14.200> one<00:07:14.400> part<00:07:14.600> profit<00:07:15.000> motive<00:07:15.320> and<00:07:15.400> it<00:07:15.480> gets<00:07:15.640> another<00:07:15.880> part<00:07:16.200> power<00:07:16.560> motive.

00:07:17.800 --> 00:07:26.120
Um,<00:07:18.200> I<00:07:18.360> do<00:07:18.800> think<00:07:19.080> there's<00:07:19.320> a<00:07:19.400> reality<00:07:19.960> that<00:07:20.120> if<00:07:20.240> you<00:07:20.360> look<00:07:20.520> at<00:07:20.720> second<00:07:21.240> time<00:07:21.640> founders,<00:07:23.040> they<00:07:23.320> tend<00:07:23.640> to<00:07:23.720> be<00:07:23.919> much<00:07:24.360> more<00:07:24.680> choosy<00:07:25.680> because<00:07:26.000> they

00:07:26.120 --> 00:07:29.000
can<00:07:26.280> afford<00:07:26.760> to<00:07:26.840> be<00:07:27.160> about<00:07:27.520> the<00:07:27.600> kind<00:07:27.880> of<00:07:27.960> thing<00:07:28.080> they<00:07:28.200> work<00:07:28.480> on.

00:07:29.000 --> 00:07:34.760
So<00:07:29.200> they<00:07:29.480> tend<00:07:29.919> they<00:07:30.080> are<00:07:30.240> much<00:07:30.680> more<00:07:30.880> likely<00:07:31.200> to<00:07:31.320> be<00:07:31.440> working<00:07:31.760> on<00:07:31.919> a<00:07:32.440> kind<00:07:32.640> of<00:07:32.760> world<00:07:33.160> good<00:07:33.400> company.

00:07:34.760 --> 00:07:43.560
Um,<00:07:35.360> but<00:07:35.520> I<00:07:35.600> really<00:07:35.919> wish<00:07:36.080> that<00:07:36.200> it<00:07:36.400> were<00:07:36.560> a<00:07:36.600> thing<00:07:36.919> that<00:07:37.600> like<00:07:37.880> Silicon<00:07:38.240> Valley<00:07:38.600> held<00:07:39.000> itself<00:07:39.520> to,<00:07:40.600> um,<00:07:41.000> because<00:07:41.240> I<00:07:41.320> think<00:07:41.560> we'd<00:07:41.720> actually<00:07:43.040> move

00:07:43.560 --> 00:07:51.440
society<00:07:44.160> forward<00:07:44.640> much<00:07:45.160> faster<00:07:45.600> in<00:07:45.720> a<00:07:45.760> better<00:07:46.240> direction<00:07:46.880> faster,<00:07:48.120> uh,<00:07:48.720> than<00:07:49.120> what<00:07:49.320> we<00:07:49.440> find<00:07:49.760> happening<00:07:50.160> today.

00:07:51.440 --> 00:07:53.560
Give<00:07:51.560> me<00:07:51.720> a<00:07:51.760> sense<00:07:52.120> for<00:07:52.280> your<00:07:52.520> thoughts<00:07:52.920> on<00:07:53.080> AI.

00:07:53.560 --> 00:07:58.200
Obviously,<00:07:53.960> like<00:07:54.120> you<00:07:54.200> said,<00:07:54.720> uh,<00:07:54.840> 100%<00:07:55.600> world-changing,<00:07:56.640> world-good.

00:07:58.200 --> 00:08:05.920
Downsides,<00:07:58.800> of<00:07:58.920> course,<00:07:59.720> um,<00:08:00.320> which<00:08:00.560> are<00:08:00.640> also<00:08:00.960> like,<00:08:01.480> uh,<00:08:01.640> pretty<00:08:01.960> obvious<00:08:02.520> and<00:08:02.680> we<00:08:02.760> don't<00:08:02.960> know<00:08:03.080> the<00:08:03.200> extent<00:08:03.560> of<00:08:03.640> those,<00:08:04.440> uh,<00:08:04.560> at<00:08:04.680> least<00:08:04.880> currently.

00:08:05.920 --> 00:08:10.760
But,<00:08:06.280> um,<00:08:06.600> all<00:08:06.760> in<00:08:06.880> all<00:08:07.240> has<00:08:07.440> to<00:08:07.520> be<00:08:07.640> thought<00:08:07.800> of<00:08:07.920> as<00:08:08.160> as<00:08:08.440> as<00:08:08.680> as<00:08:08.840> a<00:08:08.960> good<00:08:09.160> thing<00:08:09.360> that<00:08:09.480> I<00:08:09.520> would<00:08:09.600> imagine.

00:08:10.760 --> 00:08:13.080
How<00:08:10.880> are<00:08:11.000> you<00:08:11.160> implementing<00:08:11.720> it?<00:08:11.880> How<00:08:12.040> are<00:08:12.160> you<00:08:12.320> thinking<00:08:12.720> about<00:08:13.000> it?

00:08:13.080 --> 00:08:18.120
You<00:08:13.160> said<00:08:13.360> you've<00:08:13.440> been,<00:08:13.919> uh,<00:08:14.360> you<00:08:14.480> know,<00:08:14.640> implementing,<00:08:15.560> uh,<00:08:15.600> AI<00:08:15.919> for<00:08:16.040> 10<00:08:16.320> years<00:08:16.880> inside<00:08:17.240> of<00:08:17.360> Honor.

00:08:18.120 --> 00:08:20.200
So,<00:08:18.280> give<00:08:18.440> me<00:08:18.560> a<00:08:18.640> sense,<00:08:18.919> I<00:08:18.960> mean,<00:08:19.120> AI<00:08:19.280> is<00:08:19.360> not<00:08:19.520> this<00:08:19.680> new<00:08:19.919> thing.

00:08:20.200 --> 00:08:23.919
Once<00:08:20.360> ChatGPT<00:08:20.960> came<00:08:21.240> out,<00:08:21.400> everybody<00:08:21.720> kind<00:08:21.880> of<00:08:22.080> felt<00:08:22.320> like<00:08:22.520> it<00:08:22.600> was<00:08:22.720> like<00:08:22.880> this<00:08:23.040> brand<00:08:23.320> new<00:08:23.480> technology.

00:08:23.919 --> 00:08:26.000
It's<00:08:24.000> been<00:08:24.120> around<00:08:24.320> for<00:08:24.440> a<00:08:24.480> very<00:08:24.680> long<00:08:24.880> time.<00:08:25.640> Yeah.

00:08:26.000 --> 00:08:30.800
Uh,<00:08:26.440> but<00:08:26.640> now<00:08:26.960> it's<00:08:27.120> in<00:08:27.240> the<00:08:27.320> zeitgeist<00:08:28.000> and<00:08:28.120> it's<00:08:28.400> the<00:08:28.520> number-one<00:08:29.120> topic<00:08:29.560> everyone's<00:08:29.919> talking<00:08:30.240> about.

00:08:30.800 --> 00:08:39.120
Yeah.<00:08:31.600> So,<00:08:32.560> like<00:08:32.880> AI<00:08:33.680> is<00:08:34.120> completely<00:08:34.560> transformational<00:08:35.280> and<00:08:35.400> in<00:08:35.479> fact,<00:08:35.919> more<00:08:36.280> so<00:08:36.680> I<00:08:36.760> think<00:08:37.000> for<00:08:37.200> us<00:08:37.400> in<00:08:37.520> lots<00:08:37.760> of<00:08:37.840> ways<00:08:38.120> than<00:08:38.240> other<00:08:38.440> companies<00:08:38.880> because

00:08:39.120 --> 00:08:46.600
when<00:08:39.240> you<00:08:39.360> have<00:08:39.680> a<00:08:40.919> product<00:08:41.560> that<00:08:41.760> requires<00:08:42.960> demystifying<00:08:44.039> really<00:08:44.600> complicated<00:08:45.320> things.

00:08:46.600 --> 00:08:52.160
That<00:08:46.839> requires<00:08:47.720> a<00:08:47.880> ton<00:08:48.560> of<00:08:48.800> nuance<00:08:49.560> and<00:08:49.720> a<00:08:49.800> ton<00:08:50.240> of<00:08:50.440> personalization.

00:08:52.160 --> 00:09:00.240
That's<00:08:52.360> where<00:08:52.520> AI<00:08:52.760> like<00:08:53.000> super<00:08:53.280> shines.<00:08:54.480> So,<00:08:54.960> we<00:08:55.200> use<00:08:55.560> AI<00:08:56.240> to<00:08:56.400> figure<00:08:56.680> out<00:08:56.800> what<00:08:57.000> the<00:08:57.120> best<00:08:57.480> kind<00:08:57.720> of<00:08:57.760> job<00:08:58.080> is<00:08:58.200> to<00:08:58.320> give<00:08:58.480> a<00:08:58.520> certain<00:08:58.800> care<00:08:59.040> pro<00:08:59.320> so<00:08:59.480> that<00:08:59.680> they<00:08:59.800> are<00:08:59.920> super

00:09:00.240 --> 00:09:02.520
happy<00:09:00.600> so<00:09:00.720> that<00:09:00.800> they<00:09:00.920> don't<00:09:01.080> leave<00:09:01.280> us.<00:09:02.040> Mhm.

00:09:02.520 --> 00:09:10.200
We<00:09:02.760> get<00:09:03.160> We<00:09:03.320> use<00:09:03.680> AI<00:09:04.160> to<00:09:04.320> figure<00:09:04.680> out<00:09:04.880> if<00:09:05.040> a<00:09:05.120> care<00:09:05.320> pro<00:09:05.480> is<00:09:05.600> likely<00:09:05.880> to<00:09:06.000> bail<00:09:06.280> on<00:09:06.400> a<00:09:06.440> shift<00:09:06.800> three<00:09:07.000> days<00:09:07.240> ahead<00:09:07.440> of<00:09:07.520> time<00:09:08.280> and<00:09:08.520> ask<00:09:08.839> them,<00:09:09.360> you<00:09:09.400> know,<00:09:09.520> "Hey,<00:09:09.680> are<00:09:09.800> you<00:09:09.960> actually

00:09:10.200 --> 00:09:14.920
going<00:09:10.320> to<00:09:10.400> go?"<00:09:11.000> to<00:09:11.160> ensure<00:09:11.560> our<00:09:11.680> client<00:09:12.320> gets<00:09:12.920> the<00:09:13.080> service<00:09:13.440> that<00:09:13.600> they<00:09:13.720> need.

00:09:14.920 --> 00:09:21.480
Um,<00:09:15.440> we<00:09:15.600> use<00:09:15.920> AI<00:09:16.200> to<00:09:16.320> figure<00:09:16.560> out<00:09:16.720> what<00:09:16.880> is<00:09:17.080> the<00:09:17.240> right<00:09:17.520> kind<00:09:17.720> of<00:09:17.800> care<00:09:17.960> pro<00:09:18.120> to<00:09:18.200> give<00:09:18.440> that<00:09:18.680> client<00:09:19.560> the<00:09:19.720> best<00:09:20.560> service<00:09:20.960> possible.

00:09:21.480 --> 00:09:30.200
So,<00:09:21.640> like<00:09:21.920> both<00:09:22.240> our<00:09:22.800> care<00:09:23.040> pro<00:09:23.280> employees<00:09:23.920> benefit<00:09:24.320> from<00:09:24.480> AI<00:09:25.680> and<00:09:26.000> our<00:09:26.120> clients<00:09:26.560> benefit<00:09:26.920> from<00:09:27.200> AI<00:09:28.040> in<00:09:28.200> quality,<00:09:29.400> in<00:09:29.960> how

00:09:30.200 --> 00:09:36.680
good<00:09:30.440> is<00:09:30.560> that<00:09:30.800> job,<00:09:31.360> in<00:09:31.560> stability<00:09:32.240> of<00:09:32.400> pay<00:09:32.920> even,<00:09:33.280> which<00:09:33.480> is<00:09:33.560> a<00:09:33.640> really<00:09:34.040> big<00:09:34.240> deal<00:09:34.520> for<00:09:34.640> care<00:09:34.880> pros,<00:09:35.200> stability<00:09:35.640> of<00:09:35.720> pay.

00:09:36.680 --> 00:09:41.000
So,<00:09:37.000> AI<00:09:37.320> is<00:09:37.480> like<00:09:37.680> tremendously<00:09:38.680> like<00:09:38.840> transformational<00:09:39.560> for<00:09:39.680> us.

00:09:41.000 --> 00:09:45.440
Like<00:09:41.440> any<00:09:41.680> technology,<00:09:42.960> it<00:09:43.080> can<00:09:43.240> have<00:09:43.480> downside<00:09:43.920> risks,<00:09:44.560> right?

00:09:45.440 --> 00:09:52.200
And<00:09:46.000> part<00:09:46.280> of<00:09:46.360> this<00:09:46.680> it<00:09:46.800> would<00:09:46.880> be<00:09:47.000> really<00:09:47.240> nice<00:09:47.480> if<00:09:47.600> people<00:09:47.920> thought<00:09:48.080> about<00:09:48.240> the<00:09:48.320> world<00:09:48.680> would<00:09:48.800> be,<00:09:49.320> "Hey,<00:09:49.480> please<00:09:49.720> don't<00:09:49.960> use<00:09:50.080> that<00:09:50.280> in<00:09:50.360> a<00:09:50.440> way<00:09:50.560> that's<00:09:50.760> world<00:09:50.960> destructive."

00:09:52.200 --> 00:09:55.800
But<00:09:52.280> at<00:09:52.360> the<00:09:52.400> same<00:09:52.600> time,<00:09:52.800> you<00:09:52.840> know,<00:09:53.000> when<00:09:53.080> someone<00:09:53.320> asks<00:09:53.520> about,<00:09:53.760> "Well,<00:09:53.880> what<00:09:54.000> about<00:09:54.200> the<00:09:54.280> environmental<00:09:54.840> implications<00:09:55.360> of<00:09:55.480> AI?"

00:09:55.800 --> 00:09:58.676
It's<00:09:55.920> like,<00:09:56.560> "Yes,<00:09:56.800> I<00:09:56.880> hope<00:09:57.080> really<00:09:57.320> hope<00:09:57.480> someone<00:09:57.720> solves<00:09:57.920> that."

00:09:58.676 --> 00:10:04.840
<00:09:58.891> [laughter]<00:09:59.105> <00:09:59.320> But<00:09:59.535> that<00:09:59.750> is<00:09:59.964> a<00:10:00.179> different<00:10:00.394> problem<00:10:00.609> than<00:10:00.823> like,<00:10:01.038> you<00:10:01.253> know,<00:10:01.467> solving<00:10:01.682> how<00:10:01.897> do<00:10:02.112> we<00:10:02.326> care<00:10:02.541> for<00:10:02.756> the<00:10:02.971> world's<00:10:03.185> aging<00:10:03.400> population.

00:10:04.840 --> 00:10:10.200
And<00:10:05.280> you<00:10:05.520> you<00:10:05.640> have<00:10:05.800> to<00:10:05.880> kind<00:10:06.040> of<00:10:06.120> segment<00:10:06.440> those<00:10:06.560> things<00:10:06.800> out<00:10:06.920> in<00:10:07.000> your<00:10:07.080> head<00:10:07.280> and<00:10:07.360> you<00:10:07.440> have<00:10:07.520> to<00:10:07.600> say,<00:10:07.720> "Look,<00:10:07.920> I'm<00:10:07.960> going<00:10:08.080> to<00:10:08.160> use<00:10:08.280> every<00:10:08.520> tool<00:10:08.720> at<00:10:08.800> my<00:10:08.920> disposal<00:10:09.800> to<00:10:09.920> fix

00:10:10.200 --> 00:10:12.800
this<00:10:10.360> like<00:10:10.680> really<00:10:11.080> big<00:10:11.440> world<00:10:11.800> problem.

00:10:12.800 --> 00:10:14.960
I<00:10:12.920> know<00:10:13.120> there<00:10:13.320> are<00:10:13.400> other<00:10:13.600> people<00:10:13.920> who<00:10:14.040> are<00:10:14.120> working<00:10:14.400> on<00:10:14.480> climate<00:10:14.760> tech.

00:10:14.960 --> 00:10:21.240
I<00:10:15.040> know<00:10:15.160> there<00:10:15.320> are<00:10:15.440> other<00:10:15.680> people<00:10:15.960> who<00:10:16.040> are<00:10:16.120> working<00:10:16.360> on<00:10:16.520> making<00:10:16.800> AI<00:10:17.040> more<00:10:17.240> efficient,<00:10:18.040> and<00:10:18.160> we'll<00:10:18.360> draft<00:10:18.840> off<00:10:19.080> of<00:10:19.160> them<00:10:19.640> for<00:10:19.800> some<00:10:20.000> of<00:10:20.080> those<00:10:20.360> potentially<00:10:20.920> negative

00:10:21.240 --> 00:10:26.160
externalities."<00:10:23.480> What<00:10:23.640> does<00:10:23.760> a<00:10:23.800> typical<00:10:24.160> day<00:10:24.320> look<00:10:24.520> like<00:10:24.680> for<00:10:24.840> you?

00:10:26.160 --> 00:10:29.120
Um,<00:10:27.040> so,<00:10:27.440> I'm<00:10:27.600> definitely<00:10:27.920> at<00:10:28.000> the<00:10:28.040> point<00:10:28.240> where<00:10:28.320> I<00:10:28.360> don't<00:10:28.480> have<00:10:28.600> a<00:10:28.640> typical<00:10:28.960> day.

00:10:29.120 --> 00:10:36.840
The<00:10:29.360> The<00:10:29.480> great<00:10:29.840> news<00:10:31.200> is<00:10:31.720> we<00:10:31.960> have<00:10:32.120> like<00:10:32.440> an<00:10:32.680> at<00:10:32.800> this<00:10:32.960> point<00:10:33.160> an<00:10:33.240> just<00:10:33.480> incredible<00:10:34.640> leadership<00:10:35.040> team<00:10:35.440> at<00:10:35.560> the<00:10:35.640> company.

00:10:36.840 --> 00:10:44.120
Uh,<00:10:37.240> and<00:10:37.440> so,<00:10:37.560> the<00:10:37.720> things<00:10:38.000> that<00:10:38.120> are<00:10:38.200> routine,<00:10:39.400> um,<00:10:39.880> that<00:10:40.640> that<00:10:41.240> team<00:10:41.560> is<00:10:41.800> run<00:10:42.120> has<00:10:42.400> a<00:10:42.440> team<00:10:42.720> that's<00:10:42.920> running.

00:10:44.120 --> 00:10:47.400
Um,<00:10:44.839> I<00:10:44.920> think<00:10:45.160> that<00:10:45.360> you<00:10:45.480> know,<00:10:45.920> it's<00:10:46.080> kind<00:10:46.240> of<00:10:46.280> like,<00:10:46.400> "What<00:10:46.560> do<00:10:46.720> I<00:10:46.800> focus<00:10:47.200> on?

00:10:47.400 --> 00:10:51.400
What<00:10:47.765> really<00:10:48.130> matters?<00:10:48.495> At<00:10:48.860> this<00:10:49.225> point<00:10:49.590> in<00:10:49.955> my<00:10:50.320> role.

00:10:51.400 --> 00:10:54.480
Probably<00:10:51.760> the<00:10:51.839> first<00:10:52.040> one<00:10:52.160> is<00:10:52.240> just<00:10:52.400> that,<00:10:52.640> like<00:10:52.800> what<00:10:52.920> we<00:10:53.000> were<00:10:53.040> talking<00:10:53.280> about,<00:10:53.400> is<00:10:53.480> team,<00:10:54.080> right?

00:10:54.480 --> 00:10:56.920
Like,<00:10:55.320> do<00:10:55.560> we<00:10:55.760> have<00:10:55.960> the<00:10:56.080> right<00:10:56.320> people?

00:10:56.920 --> 00:11:00.160
Are<00:10:57.120> they<00:10:57.280> motivated?<00:10:58.560> Are<00:10:58.720> they<00:10:58.880> aligned?

00:11:00.160 --> 00:11:02.400
Um,<00:11:00.440> do<00:11:00.640> I<00:11:00.680> need<00:11:00.880> to<00:11:00.920> make<00:11:01.040> a<00:11:01.120> change<00:11:01.360> on<00:11:01.480> team,<00:11:02.040> right?

00:11:02.400 --> 00:11:05.920
Find<00:11:02.800> that<00:11:03.000> new<00:11:03.160> team<00:11:03.400> member<00:11:03.680> if<00:11:03.800> I<00:11:03.880> do<00:11:04.040> need<00:11:04.280> to<00:11:04.320> make<00:11:04.480> a<00:11:04.520> change<00:11:04.800> on<00:11:04.920> team.

00:11:05.920 --> 00:11:10.200
But<00:11:06.080> like<00:11:06.320> the<00:11:06.440> team<00:11:06.760> is<00:11:07.200> the<00:11:07.280> company,<00:11:07.760> the<00:11:07.880> company<00:11:08.240> is<00:11:08.320> the<00:11:08.440> team,<00:11:08.680> they're<00:11:08.920> the<00:11:09.040> same<00:11:09.240> thing.

00:11:10.200 --> 00:11:17.520
Uh,<00:11:10.449> and<00:11:10.697> if<00:11:10.946> we<00:11:11.194> want<00:11:11.443> to<00:11:11.691> keep<00:11:11.940> changing<00:11:12.189> the<00:11:12.437> world,<00:11:12.686> then<00:11:12.934> it's<00:11:13.183> not<00:11:13.431> going<00:11:13.680> to<00:11:13.929> be<00:11:14.177> me<00:11:14.426> that<00:11:14.674> does<00:11:14.923> it,<00:11:15.171> it's<00:11:15.420> going<00:11:15.669> to<00:11:15.917> be<00:11:16.166> the<00:11:16.414> team<00:11:16.663> that<00:11:16.911> does<00:11:17.160> it.

00:11:17.520 --> 00:11:20.120
And<00:11:17.680> so,<00:11:18.200> kind<00:11:18.360> of<00:11:18.440> team<00:11:18.680> is<00:11:18.800> number<00:11:19.040> one.

00:11:20.120 --> 00:11:28.080
Um,<00:11:20.640> the<00:11:20.760> second<00:11:21.040> one's<00:11:21.200> probably<00:11:21.480> communication.<00:11:22.640> Uh,<00:11:23.040> communication<00:11:23.720> is<00:11:23.839> like<00:11:25.080> to<00:11:25.240> the<00:11:25.320> outside<00:11:25.680> world,<00:11:26.200> to<00:11:26.320> them<00:11:26.680> for<00:11:27.000> the<00:11:27.120> outside<00:11:27.320> world<00:11:27.520> to<00:11:27.560> understand<00:11:27.880> what<00:11:28.000> we're

00:11:28.080 --> 00:11:33.840
doing,<00:11:28.360> to<00:11:28.440> customers,<00:11:29.160> to<00:11:29.280> potential<00:11:29.600> partners,<00:11:30.320> to<00:11:30.680> potential<00:11:31.040> employees,<00:11:31.920> to<00:11:32.080> our<00:11:32.280> current<00:11:32.640> team,<00:11:33.560> right?

00:11:33.840 --> 00:11:40.280
It's<00:11:33.960> just<00:11:34.120> like<00:11:35.120> you<00:11:35.280> just<00:11:35.640> are<00:11:36.600> the<00:11:36.760> kind<00:11:36.920> of<00:11:37.000> seller-in-chief<00:11:37.760> if<00:11:37.880> you're<00:11:38.000> a<00:11:38.040> CEO<00:11:38.640> or<00:11:38.800> founder<00:11:39.160> of<00:11:39.240> anything.

00:11:40.280 --> 00:11:43.880
Um,<00:11:40.800> so<00:11:40.960> that's<00:11:41.320> probably<00:11:41.600> thing<00:11:41.800> number<00:11:42.000> two<00:11:42.200> that<00:11:42.280> I<00:11:42.320> spend<00:11:42.520> a<00:11:42.560> lot<00:11:42.680> of<00:11:42.720> time<00:11:42.880> on.

00:11:43.880 --> 00:11:51.720
And<00:11:43.960> then<00:11:44.120> thing<00:11:44.320> number<00:11:44.560> three<00:11:45.800> in<00:11:45.960> today's<00:11:46.360> world<00:11:46.600> now,<00:11:46.800> and<00:11:46.880> this<00:11:47.040> is<00:11:47.240> this<00:11:47.400> is<00:11:47.600> because<00:11:48.080> we<00:11:48.160> have<00:11:48.280> that<00:11:48.400> amazing<00:11:48.760> team,<00:11:49.160> is<00:11:49.520> I<00:11:50.120> spend<00:11:50.480> a<00:11:50.560> decent<00:11:51.080> amount<00:11:51.320> of<00:11:51.400> time<00:11:51.640> on

00:11:51.720 --> 00:11:58.840
what<00:11:51.840> I<00:11:51.880> call<00:11:52.120> kink<00:11:52.360> the<00:11:52.440> curve<00:11:53.160> activities.<00:11:54.560> So<00:11:54.720> that's<00:11:55.760> look<00:11:55.960> like,<00:11:56.320> you<00:11:56.400> know,<00:11:56.480> the<00:11:56.600> company's<00:11:56.960> on<00:11:57.080> some<00:11:57.280> trajectory.

00:11:58.840 --> 00:12:00.720
And<00:11:58.880> it's<00:11:59.000> like,<00:11:59.200> what<00:11:59.320> if<00:11:59.440> we<00:11:59.520> did<00:11:59.720> this<00:11:59.880> thing<00:12:00.080> a<00:12:00.120> little<00:12:00.280> bit<00:12:00.400> different?

00:12:00.720 --> 00:12:02.640
Would<00:12:00.840> it<00:12:01.040> would<00:12:01.160> it<00:12:01.240> kink<00:12:01.520> the<00:12:01.600> curve,<00:12:02.280> right?

00:12:02.640 --> 00:12:07.240
Would<00:12:02.760> it<00:12:03.560> change<00:12:04.000> or<00:12:04.240> alter<00:12:04.600> the<00:12:04.720> trajectory<00:12:05.240> so<00:12:05.320> that<00:12:05.440> we<00:12:05.560> could<00:12:05.680> accomplish<00:12:06.440> mission<00:12:06.800> faster?

00:12:07.240 --> 00:12:14.360
And<00:12:07.360> that's<00:12:07.480> the<00:12:07.600> way<00:12:07.680> I<00:12:07.720> think<00:12:07.920> about<00:12:08.120> it,<00:12:08.200> right?<00:12:08.360> I<00:12:08.400> think<00:12:08.560> about<00:12:08.760> it<00:12:08.880> as<00:12:10.000> can<00:12:10.120> we<00:12:10.240> accomplish<00:12:10.720> mission<00:12:11.040> faster<00:12:12.120> by<00:12:12.240> virtue<00:12:12.560> of<00:12:12.640> this<00:12:12.800> kink<00:12:13.040> the<00:12:13.120> curve<00:12:13.400> move?

00:12:14.360 --> 00:12:16.800
And<00:12:14.440> I<00:12:14.480> have<00:12:14.600> lots<00:12:14.800> of<00:12:14.880> those<00:12:14.960> ideas.<00:12:15.280> Most<00:12:15.440> of<00:12:15.520> them<00:12:15.600> suck,<00:12:16.200> right?

00:12:16.800 --> 00:12:20.800
I<00:12:16.920> give<00:12:17.120> them<00:12:17.240> to<00:12:17.320> the<00:12:17.440> team.<00:12:17.720> A<00:12:17.760> few<00:12:17.920> of<00:12:18.000> them<00:12:18.120> are<00:12:18.200> good.<00:12:19.080> Sometimes<00:12:19.480> we<00:12:19.560> actually<00:12:19.760> do<00:12:19.880> one.

00:12:20.800 --> 00:12:23.600
And<00:12:21.520> that<00:12:21.880> cuz<00:12:22.000> you<00:12:22.040> have<00:12:22.160> to<00:12:22.200> be<00:12:22.280> careful<00:12:22.560> and<00:12:22.640> not<00:12:22.800> de-focus,<00:12:23.360> right?

00:12:23.600 --> 00:12:28.800
From<00:12:23.880> the<00:12:24.000> core<00:12:24.320> that<00:12:24.480> you're<00:12:24.600> doing.<00:12:25.520> So<00:12:25.640> that<00:12:25.800> third<00:12:26.040> one's<00:12:26.320> probably<00:12:26.800> like<00:12:27.120> the<00:12:27.440> Those<00:12:27.640> are<00:12:27.680> the<00:12:27.800> three<00:12:28.040> main<00:12:28.320> activities,<00:12:28.680> right?

00:12:28.800 --> 00:12:33.920
It's<00:12:28.880> like<00:12:29.040> team,<00:12:29.360> communicate,<00:12:29.880> kink<00:12:30.040> the<00:12:30.160> curve.<00:12:31.040> Uh,<00:12:31.200> there<00:12:31.360> is<00:12:31.480> this<00:12:31.600> fourth,<00:12:31.880> which<00:12:32.040> is<00:12:32.120> just,<00:12:32.280> "Hey,<00:12:32.400> important<00:12:32.720> stuff<00:12:32.920> comes<00:12:33.120> up<00:12:33.240> all<00:12:33.320> the<00:12:33.400> time."

00:12:33.920 --> 00:12:41.800
And<00:12:34.320> at<00:12:34.600> this<00:12:34.960> point<00:12:35.320> in<00:12:35.440> the<00:12:35.520> life<00:12:35.680> cycle<00:12:36.000> of<00:12:36.040> the<00:12:36.120> company,<00:12:37.400> uh,<00:12:37.880> like<00:12:38.240> I<00:12:38.320> actually<00:12:38.600> build<00:12:38.920> into<00:12:39.080> my<00:12:39.200> schedule<00:12:39.600> enough<00:12:39.800> time<00:12:40.080> to<00:12:40.120> just<00:12:40.280> like,<00:12:40.440> "Hey,<00:12:40.560> today<00:12:40.880> this<00:12:41.120> matters,

00:12:41.800 --> 00:12:45.760
right?"<00:12:42.080> I<00:12:42.120> didn't<00:12:42.320> have<00:12:42.520> it<00:12:42.640> pre-planned.<00:12:43.200> There<00:12:43.320> wasn't<00:12:43.600> like<00:12:43.800> a<00:12:44.400> 30-minute<00:12:44.839> back-to-back<00:12:45.280> all<00:12:45.360> day<00:12:45.480> long.

00:12:45.760 --> 00:12:51.680
I<00:12:45.800> think<00:12:45.920> that's<00:12:46.120> bad<00:12:46.680> at<00:12:46.800> this<00:12:46.960> point.<00:12:47.280> Like<00:12:47.400> if<00:12:47.520> I<00:12:47.600> if<00:12:47.800> my<00:12:47.920> schedule<00:12:48.320> is<00:12:48.400> like<00:12:48.560> 30-minute<00:12:49.040> back-to-back<00:12:49.560> every<00:12:49.760> day<00:12:50.080> and<00:12:50.280> I<00:12:50.320> was<00:12:50.440> just<00:12:50.600> like<00:12:50.760> running<00:12:50.960> around<00:12:51.200> with<00:12:51.320> chicken

00:12:51.680 --> 00:12:54.440
like<00:12:51.800> chicken<00:12:52.000> with<00:12:52.080> my<00:12:52.160> head<00:12:52.320> cut<00:12:52.480> off,<00:12:53.280> would<00:12:53.360> not<00:12:53.480> be<00:12:53.560> good,<00:12:54.080> right?

00:12:54.440 --> 00:12:59.920
I<00:12:54.480> need<00:12:54.720> some<00:12:54.880> time<00:12:55.120> to<00:12:55.200> just<00:12:55.400> like<00:12:55.680> deal<00:12:55.920> with<00:12:56.080> whatever's<00:12:56.400> happening<00:12:56.760> at<00:12:56.839> the<00:12:56.920> moment<00:12:57.280> in<00:12:57.440> a<00:12:57.600> kind<00:12:57.760> of<00:12:57.839> ad<00:12:57.960> hoc<00:12:58.160> way.

00:12:59.920 --> 00:13:08.920
Yeah.<00:13:00.280> And<00:13:00.440> how<00:13:00.560> do<00:13:00.640> you<00:13:00.720> think<00:13:00.880> about<00:13:01.120> culture<00:13:01.600> inside<00:13:01.880> your<00:13:02.000> team<00:13:02.240> and<00:13:02.440> and<00:13:02.600> maintaining<00:13:03.200> that<00:13:03.560> as<00:13:03.720> you<00:13:03.839> grow,<00:13:04.400> as<00:13:04.560> you<00:13:04.680> scale,<00:13:06.120> um<00:13:06.440> culture<00:13:06.920> even<00:13:07.160> inside<00:13:07.480> of<00:13:07.600> the<00:13:08.080> facilities

00:13:08.920 --> 00:13:11.440
and<00:13:09.080> the<00:13:09.200> and<00:13:09.360> the<00:13:09.440> various<00:13:09.839> folks<00:13:10.160> that<00:13:10.320> you<00:13:10.440> help?

00:13:11.440 --> 00:13:16.520
Yeah.<00:13:11.960> Uh,<00:13:12.320> so<00:13:12.720> we<00:13:12.960> have<00:13:13.480> this<00:13:13.760> set<00:13:14.040> of<00:13:14.240> leadership<00:13:14.720> principles<00:13:15.480> that<00:13:15.640> we<00:13:15.760> created.

00:13:16.520 --> 00:13:25.000
And<00:13:17.800> what<00:13:18.040> they<00:13:18.280> actually<00:13:18.960> are<00:13:19.720> is<00:13:20.600> the<00:13:20.839> guide<00:13:22.080> to<00:13:23.040> lessons<00:13:23.720> I<00:13:23.800> learned<00:13:24.560> over

00:13:25.000 --> 00:13:32.480
for<00:13:25.280> years<00:13:25.480> of<00:13:25.600> being<00:13:25.840> an<00:13:25.920> entrepreneur<00:13:27.360> where<00:13:28.000> I<00:13:28.160> really<00:13:28.920> wish<00:13:29.400> employees<00:13:30.160> knew<00:13:30.720> blah.

00:13:32.480 --> 00:13:36.400
And<00:13:33.280> so<00:13:33.520> they<00:13:33.760> are<00:13:34.000> the<00:13:34.560> they<00:13:34.800> are<00:13:34.920> those<00:13:35.200> things.

00:13:36.400 --> 00:13:41.720
And<00:13:36.600> we<00:13:36.800> use<00:13:37.080> them<00:13:37.280> in<00:13:37.400> everything<00:13:37.880> from<00:13:38.320> how<00:13:38.440> do<00:13:38.520> we<00:13:38.640> evaluate<00:13:39.040> a<00:13:39.120> potential<00:13:39.480> candidate<00:13:40.400> for<00:13:40.520> a<00:13:40.560> job?

00:13:41.720 --> 00:13:45.840
How<00:13:41.760> do<00:13:41.840> we<00:13:41.920> performance<00:13:42.440> manage?<00:13:43.360> How<00:13:43.480> do<00:13:43.560> we<00:13:43.680> make<00:13:43.880> decisions<00:13:44.320> at<00:13:44.440> the<00:13:44.520> company?

00:13:45.840 --> 00:13:54.440
Uh,<00:13:46.160> we<00:13:46.280> have<00:13:46.680> leaders<00:13:47.080> at<00:13:47.160> the<00:13:47.240> company<00:13:47.680> do<00:13:47.960> video<00:13:48.280> recordings<00:13:49.000> of<00:13:49.280> how,<00:13:49.600> you<00:13:49.720> know,<00:13:49.960> this<00:13:50.280> particular,<00:13:51.320> you<00:13:51.400> know,<00:13:51.480> leadership<00:13:51.840> principle<00:13:52.240> like<00:13:52.440> GST,<00:13:53.280> get<00:13:53.640> done.

00:13:54.440 --> 00:13:58.880
How<00:13:54.480> does<00:13:54.680> that<00:13:55.120> principle,<00:13:56.360> uh,<00:13:56.520> you<00:13:56.600> know,<00:13:56.720> affect<00:13:57.120> what<00:13:57.240> they<00:13:57.360> do<00:13:57.600> day-to-day?

00:13:58.880 --> 00:14:07.720
So,<00:13:59.800> um,<00:14:00.400> we<00:14:01.000> we<00:14:01.200> literally<00:14:02.720> embed<00:14:03.240> those<00:14:03.720> leadership<00:14:04.120> principles<00:14:04.760> into<00:14:05.120> the<00:14:05.320> operating<00:14:05.760> model<00:14:06.160> of<00:14:06.320> the<00:14:06.400> company.

00:14:07.720 --> 00:14:14.920
And<00:14:08.080> that<00:14:08.480> really<00:14:08.760> drives<00:14:09.080> culture.<00:14:09.840> There<00:14:10.080> is<00:14:10.200> this<00:14:10.400> other<00:14:10.640> part<00:14:10.920> which<00:14:11.120> is<00:14:12.280> like<00:14:12.520> we<00:14:12.760> are<00:14:13.240> and<00:14:13.360> it's<00:14:13.600> actually<00:14:13.800> number<00:14:14.000> one<00:14:14.120> of<00:14:14.160> our<00:14:14.200> leadership<00:14:14.440> principles.

00:14:14.920 --> 00:14:16.880
Like<00:14:15.160> we<00:14:15.280> are<00:14:15.400> super<00:14:15.800> mission-oriented,<00:14:16.600> right?

00:14:16.880 --> 00:14:19.360
Like<00:14:17.520> if<00:14:17.680> you<00:14:17.800> work<00:14:18.040> here,<00:14:18.160> you<00:14:18.280> better<00:14:18.440> care<00:14:18.560> about<00:14:18.800> the<00:14:18.880> mission.

00:14:19.360 --> 00:14:21.520
You<00:14:19.560> will<00:14:19.760> work<00:14:19.960> harder<00:14:20.240> because<00:14:20.560> you<00:14:20.600> care<00:14:20.760> about<00:14:20.960> the<00:14:21.040> mission,<00:14:21.320> right?

00:14:21.520 --> 00:14:27.720
Because<00:14:21.840> it's<00:14:22.120> actually<00:14:23.440> like<00:14:23.800> making<00:14:24.240> the<00:14:24.360> world<00:14:24.680> a<00:14:24.720> better<00:14:25.040> place<00:14:25.440> by<00:14:25.720> doing<00:14:26.240> the<00:14:26.400> work<00:14:26.680> that<00:14:26.840> we<00:14:26.960> do<00:14:27.160> every<00:14:27.400> day.

00:14:27.720 --> 00:14:31.760
And<00:14:27.920> so<00:14:28.080> therefore<00:14:28.560> you<00:14:28.680> have<00:14:28.920> a<00:14:29.000> license<00:14:29.440> to<00:14:29.560> push<00:14:29.760> hard,<00:14:30.520> which<00:14:30.720> is<00:14:30.800> another<00:14:31.120> thing<00:14:31.240> about<00:14:31.400> the<00:14:31.480> culture.

00:14:31.760 --> 00:14:37.800
Like<00:14:31.920> we<00:14:32.000> just<00:14:32.160> push<00:14:32.360> really<00:14:32.560> hard,<00:14:33.040> right?<00:14:33.400> We're<00:14:33.640> really<00:14:33.960> aggressive<00:14:34.400> internally<00:14:34.800> with<00:14:34.960> ourselves<00:14:35.320> and<00:14:35.400> the<00:14:35.480> goals<00:14:35.680> that<00:14:35.800> we<00:14:35.920> set<00:14:36.320> and<00:14:36.480> how<00:14:36.640> fast<00:14:36.960> we're<00:14:37.080> moving<00:14:37.640> and

00:14:37.800 --> 00:14:40.640
how<00:14:37.920> aggressive<00:14:38.360> we're<00:14:38.480> being<00:14:38.760> about<00:14:39.040> changing<00:14:39.360> the<00:14:39.440> world.

00:14:40.640 --> 00:14:48.000
Um,<00:14:41.440> and<00:14:41.880> so<00:14:42.240> and<00:14:42.400> there's<00:14:42.560> this<00:14:42.680> other<00:14:42.880> part<00:14:43.080> about<00:14:43.240> our<00:14:43.320> culture<00:14:43.640> which<00:14:43.839> is<00:14:44.960> we<00:14:45.080> really<00:14:45.360> just<00:14:45.600> talk<00:14:45.920> things<00:14:46.320> out<00:14:46.600> like<00:14:46.960> in<00:14:47.120> the<00:14:47.240> room<00:14:47.440> immediately.

00:14:48.000 --> 00:14:54.560
We<00:14:48.120> don't<00:14:48.440> wait<00:14:48.640> to<00:14:48.680> have<00:14:48.839> the<00:14:48.920> conversation<00:14:49.480> after<00:14:49.720> the<00:14:49.800> conversation<00:14:50.440> to<00:14:50.640> like<00:14:50.839> spare<00:14:51.120> people's,<00:14:51.880> you<00:14:51.920> know,<00:14:52.040> feelings<00:14:52.560> because<00:14:53.760> let's<00:14:53.880> say<00:14:53.960> you<00:14:54.040> have<00:14:54.120> a<00:14:54.320> meeting

00:14:54.560 --> 00:14:59.320
with<00:14:54.680> 20<00:14:54.920> people<00:14:55.320> and<00:14:55.920> you<00:14:56.000> know,<00:14:56.160> something's<00:14:56.480> being<00:14:56.680> presented<00:14:57.080> that<00:14:57.520> you<00:14:57.600> know,<00:14:57.760> seems<00:14:58.040> off<00:14:58.280> or<00:14:58.440> wrong.

00:14:59.320 --> 00:15:05.320
If<00:14:59.360> you<00:14:59.440> don't<00:14:59.640> ask<00:14:59.800> the<00:14:59.880> question<00:15:00.640> in<00:15:00.760> the<00:15:00.800> meeting<00:15:01.120> and<00:15:01.200> you<00:15:01.240> wait<00:15:01.400> for<00:15:01.480> the<00:15:01.560> sub<00:15:01.800> meeting,<00:15:02.640> then<00:15:03.440> you<00:15:03.520> know,<00:15:03.680> 18<00:15:04.040> of<00:15:04.120> those<00:15:04.240> 20<00:15:04.480> people<00:15:04.760> are<00:15:04.839> going<00:15:04.960> to<00:15:05.000> go<00:15:05.120> out<00:15:05.240> with

00:15:05.320 --> 00:15:12.320
the<00:15:05.400> wrong<00:15:05.560> impression.<00:15:06.560> And<00:15:06.920> and<00:15:07.000> that's<00:15:07.320> wasted<00:15:07.839> time<00:15:08.120> and<00:15:08.240> wasted<00:15:08.600> energy<00:15:09.000> and<00:15:09.080> then<00:15:09.240> you<00:15:09.280> have<00:15:09.400> to<00:15:09.480> go<00:15:09.640> correct<00:15:09.960> it<00:15:10.080> later<00:15:10.480> and<00:15:11.240> half<00:15:11.480> of<00:15:11.560> them<00:15:11.720> will<00:15:11.839> never<00:15:12.080> heard

00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:14.880
that<00:15:12.760> it<00:15:13.160> you<00:15:13.240> know,<00:15:13.520> you<00:15:13.600> corrected<00:15:14.080> it.

00:15:14.880 --> 00:15:18.440
Uh,<00:15:15.200> so<00:15:15.440> we<00:15:15.600> very<00:15:15.920> much<00:15:16.160> kind<00:15:16.320> of<00:15:16.400> talk<00:15:16.560> it<00:15:16.680> out<00:15:16.800> in<00:15:16.880> the<00:15:17.000> room.

00:15:18.440 --> 00:15:22.640
Yeah,<00:15:18.600> that<00:15:18.760> makes<00:15:18.960> a<00:15:19.000> lot<00:15:19.160> of<00:15:19.240> sense.<00:15:19.360> What<00:15:19.520> do<00:15:19.560> you<00:15:19.720> read<00:15:20.160> and<00:15:20.320> what<00:15:20.560> reading<00:15:20.839> recommendations<00:15:21.400> do<00:15:21.520> you<00:15:21.600> have<00:15:21.760> for<00:15:22.000> us?

00:15:22.640 --> 00:15:28.320
Yeah,<00:15:23.000> um,<00:15:23.200> yeah,<00:15:23.360> it's<00:15:23.520> interesting.<00:15:24.040> I<00:15:24.360> read<00:15:24.800> a<00:15:24.920> lot<00:15:25.280> of<00:15:25.440> kind<00:15:25.640> of<00:15:25.760> here's<00:15:26.000> what's<00:15:26.160> happening<00:15:26.520> in<00:15:26.640> the<00:15:26.680> moment<00:15:26.960> in<00:15:27.040> the<00:15:27.120> world.

00:15:28.320 --> 00:15:32.560
Uh,<00:15:28.720> so<00:15:28.960> that's<00:15:29.280> a<00:15:29.680> a<00:15:29.760> big<00:15:30.000> part<00:15:30.200> of<00:15:30.280> just<00:15:30.440> I<00:15:30.560> want<00:15:30.760> to<00:15:30.800> know<00:15:30.920> what's<00:15:31.080> happening<00:15:31.400> in<00:15:31.480> the<00:15:31.560> world.

00:15:32.560 --> 00:15:35.160
Um,<00:15:33.000> I<00:15:33.120> read<00:15:33.520> a<00:15:33.600> lot<00:15:33.760> of<00:15:33.840> health<00:15:34.080> stuff<00:15:34.520> actually.

00:15:35.160 --> 00:15:42.280
Uh,<00:15:35.560> like,<00:15:35.880> you<00:15:35.920> know,<00:15:36.040> here's<00:15:36.320> how,<00:15:36.720> you<00:15:36.800> know,<00:15:36.960> you<00:15:37.280> what<00:15:37.600> you<00:15:37.800> should<00:15:38.080> do,<00:15:38.320> what<00:15:38.560> society<00:15:39.040> should<00:15:39.240> do<00:15:39.520> to<00:15:40.080> uh<00:15:40.320> keep<00:15:40.560> itself<00:15:41.040> healthy.

00:15:42.280 --> 00:15:51.520
Um,<00:15:43.000> and<00:15:43.760> uh<00:15:44.640> I<00:15:44.760> don't<00:15:45.000> like,<00:15:45.280> you<00:15:45.360> know,<00:15:45.480> there's<00:15:45.720> certain<00:15:46.000> books<00:15:46.200> that<00:15:46.320> I<00:15:46.360> think<00:15:46.520> have<00:15:46.600> been<00:15:46.800> like<00:15:47.320> very<00:15:49.160> they're<00:15:49.400> like<00:15:50.280> inspirationally

00:15:51.520 --> 00:15:59.720
interesting.<00:15:51.960> Like<00:15:52.120> the<00:15:52.240> Happiness<00:15:52.720> Hypothesis,<00:15:53.320> for<00:15:53.440> example,<00:15:53.840> from<00:15:54.000> Jonathan<00:15:54.360> Haidt<00:15:54.600> was<00:15:55.000> kind<00:15:55.200> of<00:15:55.280> like<00:15:55.520> a<00:15:56.400> formative<00:15:57.000> book<00:15:57.320> that<00:15:57.960> that<00:15:58.240> helped<00:15:58.640> me<00:15:58.800> shape<00:15:59.160> my<00:15:59.400> world

00:15:59.720 --> 00:16:04.880
view<00:16:00.360> on<00:16:00.960> how<00:16:01.280> I<00:16:01.360> should<00:16:01.600> kind<00:16:01.760> of<00:16:01.880> almost<00:16:02.120> psychologically<00:16:02.920> manage<00:16:03.360> myself.

00:16:04.880 --> 00:16:13.560
Um,<00:16:05.560> and<00:16:05.680> then<00:16:05.800> I<00:16:05.880> guess<00:16:06.120> this<00:16:06.440> that<00:16:06.560> I<00:16:06.640> have<00:16:06.800> a<00:16:06.840> last<00:16:07.160> suggestion<00:16:07.640> for<00:16:07.760> the<00:16:07.880> audience<00:16:08.240> who<00:16:08.360> for<00:16:08.600> people<00:16:08.800> who<00:16:08.840> don't<00:16:08.960> realize<00:16:09.240> this,<00:16:10.040> you<00:16:10.240> should<00:16:10.600> figure<00:16:11.080> out<00:16:12.080> if<00:16:12.520> you<00:16:13.080> read

00:16:13.560 --> 00:16:16.520
faster<00:16:14.040> in<00:16:14.160> the<00:16:14.240> physical<00:16:14.680> sense<00:16:15.080> or<00:16:15.240> if<00:16:15.360> you<00:16:15.560> listen<00:16:16.000> faster.

00:16:16.520 --> 00:16:22.880
And<00:16:16.600> so<00:16:16.680> I<00:16:16.720> actually<00:16:16.960> did<00:16:17.080> a<00:16:17.120> test<00:16:17.400> with<00:16:17.520> myself.<00:16:18.880> And<00:16:19.320> if,<00:16:19.520> you<00:16:19.640> know,<00:16:19.960> all<00:16:20.080> these<00:16:20.520> websites<00:16:20.960> now<00:16:21.120> are,<00:16:21.240> you<00:16:21.320> know,<00:16:21.360> YouTube,<00:16:21.760> whatever,<00:16:22.120> they<00:16:22.240> have<00:16:22.440> this<00:16:22.600> like,<00:16:22.840> you

00:16:22.880 --> 00:16:26.120
know,<00:16:23.080> listen<00:16:23.440> at<00:16:24.000> 2x<00:16:24.520> or<00:16:24.600> 3x<00:16:25.000> or<00:16:25.080> whatever.

00:16:26.120 --> 00:16:31.160
So<00:16:26.160> I<00:16:26.200> tested<00:16:26.520> myself.<00:16:27.520> I<00:16:27.760> read<00:16:28.440> physically<00:16:29.080> at<00:16:29.280> 1.3x.

00:16:31.160 --> 00:16:39.360
But<00:16:31.240> I<00:16:31.320> can<00:16:31.640> listen<00:16:32.480> at<00:16:32.640> 2.5x.<00:16:34.320> So<00:16:34.440> I<00:16:34.520> actually<00:16:34.800> don't<00:16:34.960> read<00:16:35.160> very<00:16:35.320> much<00:16:35.560> anymore<00:16:36.160> because<00:16:36.640> I<00:16:36.760> can<00:16:36.960> ingest<00:16:37.400> information<00:16:38.000> in<00:16:38.080> about<00:16:38.440> twice<00:16:38.760> the<00:16:38.880> speed<00:16:39.240> if

00:16:39.360 --> 00:16:47.400
it's<00:16:39.520> audio<00:16:39.800> spectrum.<00:16:40.960> So<00:16:41.120> I<00:16:41.200> now<00:16:41.480> use<00:16:41.800> a<00:16:41.880> thing<00:16:42.120> that<00:16:42.480> that<00:16:42.880> speaks<00:16:43.240> everything<00:16:43.800> to<00:16:43.960> me<00:16:44.800> and<00:16:44.920> I<00:16:45.080> amp<00:16:45.320> it<00:16:45.400> up<00:16:45.520> to<00:16:45.600> 2.5x<00:16:46.720> and<00:16:46.880> I<00:16:46.920> ingest<00:16:47.360> a

00:16:47.400 --> 00:16:49.760
lot<00:16:47.600> faster.<00:16:48.880> That's<00:16:49.120> awesome<00:16:49.480> actually.

00:16:49.760 --> 00:16:52.760
That<00:16:50.000> That's<00:16:50.360> cool.<00:16:50.640> I<00:16:50.720> mean,<00:16:50.880> I<00:16:50.960> imagine<00:16:51.320> that's<00:16:51.480> true<00:16:51.640> for<00:16:51.839> most<00:16:52.240> of<00:16:52.360> us,<00:16:52.560> right?

00:16:52.760 --> 00:16:55.760
Like<00:16:52.880> we<00:16:53.000> probably<00:16:53.440> all<00:16:54.000> listen<00:16:54.640> or<00:16:54.760> or<00:16:55.040> no?

00:16:55.760 --> 00:17:04.640
It<00:16:56.040> is<00:16:56.240> the<00:16:56.360> opposite.<00:16:57.800> Yeah,<00:16:58.080> his<00:16:58.360> reading<00:16:58.839> physical<00:16:59.280> reading<00:16:59.520> so<00:16:59.839> it's<00:17:00.160> really<00:17:01.520> people<00:17:01.920> are<00:17:02.080> one<00:17:02.280> or<00:17:02.400> the<00:17:02.560> other,<00:17:02.880> but<00:17:03.080> it<00:17:03.200> is<00:17:03.360> not<00:17:03.760> necessarily

00:17:04.640 --> 00:17:11.439
that<00:17:04.839> you're<00:17:05.000> one<00:17:05.199> or<00:17:05.280> the<00:17:05.439> other.<00:17:05.680> Like<00:17:06.120> um<00:17:06.760> my<00:17:07.000> I<00:17:07.280> actually<00:17:07.640> thought<00:17:07.959> to<00:17:08.040> test<00:17:08.319> myself<00:17:08.680> because<00:17:08.959> my<00:17:09.079> oldest<00:17:09.400> son<00:17:09.560> turns<00:17:09.839> out<00:17:09.959> to<00:17:10.000> be<00:17:10.120> dyslexic.

00:17:11.439 --> 00:17:15.880
Uh,<00:17:11.839> and<00:17:11.959> I<00:17:12.000> was<00:17:12.079> like,<00:17:12.280> you<00:17:12.360> know,<00:17:12.520> what?<00:17:12.800> I<00:17:12.880> wonder<00:17:13.560> if<00:17:14.199> uh<00:17:14.720> like<00:17:14.839> did<00:17:15.000> he<00:17:15.079> get<00:17:15.199> that<00:17:15.480> from<00:17:15.680> me?

00:17:15.880 --> 00:17:19.640
I've<00:17:16.040> actually<00:17:16.360> always<00:17:16.600> found<00:17:16.839> it<00:17:17.079> of<00:17:17.240> painful<00:17:17.800> to<00:17:18.000> read<00:17:18.280> physical<00:17:18.760> words.

00:17:19.640 --> 00:17:24.240
And<00:17:19.760> so<00:17:19.880> that's<00:17:20.079> the<00:17:20.160> reason<00:17:20.400> I<00:17:20.480> tested<00:17:20.839> myself<00:17:21.160> and<00:17:21.240> I<00:17:21.280> was<00:17:21.360> like,<00:17:21.520> "Ooh,<00:17:22.116> [laughter]<00:17:22.120> big<00:17:22.280> difference."

00:17:24.240 --> 00:17:32.600
How<00:17:24.400> do<00:17:24.520> you<00:17:24.600> How<00:17:24.720> do<00:17:24.839> you<00:17:25.199> take<00:17:25.520> on<00:17:25.640> this<00:17:25.800> responsibility<00:17:26.600> as<00:17:26.760> CEO<00:17:27.520> in<00:17:27.680> today's<00:17:28.120> world<00:17:29.120> where<00:17:29.400> when<00:17:29.560> something<00:17:29.920> happens<00:17:30.600> outside<00:17:31.240> of<00:17:32.240> um

00:17:32.600 --> 00:17:39.280
you<00:17:32.760> know,<00:17:33.200> your<00:17:33.480> business<00:17:34.040> and<00:17:34.160> what<00:17:34.320> you<00:17:34.480> do<00:17:34.720> for<00:17:34.880> a<00:17:34.920> living<00:17:35.320> and<00:17:35.600> you<00:17:35.640> know,<00:17:35.720> all<00:17:35.840> that<00:17:36.040> type<00:17:36.200> of<00:17:36.280> stuff<00:17:36.960> happens<00:17:37.360> and<00:17:37.480> you're<00:17:37.600> expected<00:17:38.040> to<00:17:38.120> have<00:17:38.280> an<00:17:38.360> opinion<00:17:38.840> on<00:17:39.000> it

00:17:39.280 --> 00:17:43.120
or<00:17:39.440> you're<00:17:39.600> expected<00:17:40.040> to<00:17:40.120> speak<00:17:40.520> out<00:17:40.760> or<00:17:40.920> you're<00:17:41.080> expected<00:17:41.680> to<00:17:42.560> not<00:17:42.800> speak<00:17:43.040> out.

00:17:43.120 --> 00:17:48.880
I<00:17:43.160> mean,<00:17:43.320> whatever.<00:17:43.640> You<00:17:43.720> know<00:17:43.840> You<00:17:43.920> know<00:17:44.000> what<00:17:44.080> I<00:17:44.120> mean?<00:17:44.320> Like<00:17:44.520> I<00:17:44.600> would<00:17:44.760> say<00:17:45.000> I<00:17:45.040> would<00:17:45.120> say<00:17:45.320> like<00:17:45.440> 20<00:17:45.680> years<00:17:45.880> ago<00:17:46.480> CEOs<00:17:46.960> weren't<00:17:47.240> looked<00:17:47.480> to<00:17:47.840> to<00:17:47.960> speak<00:17:48.240> out<00:17:48.360> on<00:17:48.440> the<00:17:48.560> issues

00:17:48.880 --> 00:17:51.240
of<00:17:48.960> the<00:17:49.040> day.<00:17:49.760> Yep.<00:17:50.040> And<00:17:50.240> now<00:17:50.440> they<00:17:50.560> kind<00:17:50.760> of<00:17:50.880> are.

00:17:51.240 --> 00:17:54.120
And<00:17:51.400> so<00:17:51.720> how<00:17:51.880> do<00:17:52.000> you<00:17:52.160> handle<00:17:52.560> that?<00:17:52.800> How<00:17:52.920> do<00:17:53.040> you<00:17:53.160> think<00:17:53.440> about<00:17:53.720> that?

00:17:54.120 --> 00:17:58.280
Yeah,<00:17:54.360> you<00:17:54.480> know,<00:17:54.640> I<00:17:54.760> actually<00:17:55.040> posted<00:17:55.360> a<00:17:55.400> video<00:17:55.840> on<00:17:56.000> this<00:17:56.240> like<00:17:56.520> very<00:17:56.760> topic<00:17:57.160> recently.

00:17:58.280 --> 00:18:02.360
Uh,<00:17:58.360> and<00:17:58.480> I<00:17:58.520> had<00:17:58.640> a<00:17:58.680> discussion<00:17:59.120> about<00:17:59.360> it<00:17:59.480> this<00:17:59.640> weekend<00:18:00.400> uh<00:18:00.480> with<00:18:00.640> a<00:18:00.680> small<00:18:01.040> group<00:18:01.360> of<00:18:01.480> friends,<00:18:02.080> too.

00:18:02.360 --> 00:18:05.640
So<00:18:02.640> I<00:18:02.680> have<00:18:02.840> like<00:18:03.000> a<00:18:03.040> very<00:18:03.640> strong<00:18:04.040> perspective<00:18:04.600> on<00:18:04.720> this.

00:18:05.640 --> 00:18:15.440
Um,<00:18:06.160> the<00:18:06.520> the<00:18:06.640> first<00:18:06.920> part<00:18:07.200> is<00:18:08.480> if<00:18:08.720> you<00:18:09.720> want<00:18:10.760> to<00:18:10.880> push<00:18:11.200> the<00:18:11.360> world<00:18:12.480> in<00:18:12.560> a<00:18:12.640> positive<00:18:13.160> direction,<00:18:15.160> you

00:18:15.440 --> 00:18:18.680
have<00:18:15.840> to<00:18:15.960> do<00:18:16.120> that<00:18:16.320> in<00:18:16.400> a<00:18:16.440> very<00:18:16.640> focused<00:18:17.000> way.

00:18:18.680 --> 00:18:27.680
You<00:18:18.760> have<00:18:18.880> to<00:18:19.000> choose<00:18:19.400> a<00:18:19.480> narrow<00:18:19.840> problem<00:18:21.080> that<00:18:22.400> you<00:18:23.000> actually<00:18:23.560> can<00:18:23.800> possibly<00:18:24.880> affect<00:18:25.360> change<00:18:25.680> in<00:18:26.640> because<00:18:27.080> even

00:18:27.680 --> 00:18:35.960
trying<00:18:27.960> to<00:18:28.000> do<00:18:28.160> that<00:18:28.600> narrow<00:18:29.040> thing,<00:18:29.720> there<00:18:29.840> will<00:18:30.000> be<00:18:30.200> lots<00:18:30.480> of<00:18:30.600> vested<00:18:30.960> interests<00:18:32.000> who<00:18:32.320> like<00:18:32.560> it<00:18:32.680> the<00:18:32.880> old<00:18:33.160> worse<00:18:33.440> way,<00:18:34.040> who<00:18:34.160> will<00:18:34.320> try<00:18:34.480> to<00:18:34.640> kill<00:18:34.880> you.

00:18:35.960 --> 00:18:38.440
It<00:18:36.120> doesn't<00:18:36.400> matter<00:18:36.680> that<00:18:36.800> you're<00:18:36.920> trying<00:18:37.120> to<00:18:37.160> create<00:18:37.360> positive<00:18:37.680> world<00:18:37.880> change.

00:18:38.440 --> 00:18:42.320
Other<00:18:38.680> people<00:18:39.080> make<00:18:39.320> money<00:18:39.760> or<00:18:39.920> get<00:18:40.120> power<00:18:40.800> through<00:18:41.000> the<00:18:41.120> old<00:18:41.360> way<00:18:41.440> of<00:18:41.560> doing<00:18:41.800> it.

00:18:42.320 --> 00:18:50.720
Mhm.<00:18:42.880> And<00:18:43.000> so<00:18:43.120> they'll<00:18:43.240> try<00:18:43.400> to<00:18:43.480> kill<00:18:43.640> you.<00:18:44.520> So<00:18:44.640> if<00:18:44.720> you<00:18:44.800> try<00:18:44.920> to<00:18:45.000> go<00:18:45.240> too<00:18:45.680> broad,<00:18:46.960> you<00:18:47.360> will<00:18:47.760> have<00:18:48.120> too<00:18:48.320> many<00:18:48.600> vested<00:18:48.960> interests<00:18:49.440> lining<00:18:49.760> up<00:18:49.880> against<00:18:50.280> you<00:18:50.560> and

00:18:50.720 --> 00:18:58.680
you<00:18:50.840> will<00:18:51.080> never<00:18:51.400> get<00:18:51.600> through<00:18:51.800> the<00:18:51.920> conflict.<00:18:52.960> So<00:18:53.160> one<00:18:53.400> part<00:18:53.680> is<00:18:53.880> choose<00:18:54.200> a<00:18:54.280> narrow<00:18:54.920> thing<00:18:55.360> that's<00:18:55.600> really<00:18:55.880> focused<00:18:56.560> and<00:18:56.960> go<00:18:57.360> do<00:18:57.640> it,<00:18:58.200> right?

00:18:58.680 --> 00:19:06.800
So<00:18:58.720> that's<00:18:58.960> kind<00:18:59.160> of<00:18:59.520> thing<00:18:59.760> number<00:19:00.040> one.<00:19:01.480> Um,<00:19:02.520> thing<00:19:02.840> number<00:19:03.120> two<00:19:03.360> on<00:19:03.520> this<00:19:03.720> is<00:19:04.120> and<00:19:04.240> I<00:19:04.440> you<00:19:04.520> know,<00:19:04.600> I<00:19:04.680> said<00:19:04.920> this<00:19:05.280> to<00:19:05.440> this<00:19:05.560> group<00:19:05.760> of<00:19:05.840> people<00:19:06.120> this<00:19:06.240> weekend<00:19:06.680> and

00:19:06.800 --> 00:19:12.680
it<00:19:06.880> was<00:19:07.080> really<00:19:07.320> interesting<00:19:07.720> the<00:19:07.800> reactions<00:19:08.320> cuz<00:19:08.440> it<00:19:08.520> was<00:19:08.600> a<00:19:08.640> group<00:19:08.840> of<00:19:08.920> people<00:19:09.160> who<00:19:09.240> were<00:19:09.320> like<00:19:09.480> very<00:19:09.920> These<00:19:10.160> people<00:19:10.320> are<00:19:10.440> very<00:19:10.600> successful<00:19:11.000> in<00:19:11.080> their<00:19:11.160> lives.

00:19:12.680 --> 00:19:21.200
And<00:19:13.160> I<00:19:13.240> said<00:19:13.480> to<00:19:13.560> them,<00:19:13.720> so<00:19:14.200> every<00:19:14.520> single<00:19:14.880> person<00:19:15.280> sitting<00:19:15.560> around<00:19:15.840> this<00:19:15.960> table<00:19:17.200> should<00:19:17.640> be<00:19:17.800> working<00:19:18.240> on<00:19:18.400> a<00:19:18.480> project<00:19:19.360> that<00:19:19.560> is<00:19:19.800> focused<00:19:21.080> and

00:19:21.200 --> 00:19:25.680
that<00:19:21.360> is<00:19:21.520> helping<00:19:21.920> push<00:19:22.160> the<00:19:22.240> world<00:19:22.560> forward<00:19:23.120> in<00:19:23.360> some<00:19:23.720> kind<00:19:24.000> of<00:19:24.120> positive<00:19:24.560> way.

00:19:25.680 --> 00:19:34.000
And<00:19:25.800> if<00:19:25.920> you're<00:19:26.040> not,<00:19:26.280> you<00:19:26.360> should<00:19:26.480> go<00:19:26.600> get<00:19:26.840> one.<00:19:27.280> And<00:19:27.480> again,<00:19:27.840> not<00:19:28.080> boil<00:19:28.320> the<00:19:28.440> ocean,<00:19:28.840> but<00:19:29.240> go<00:19:29.480> do<00:19:29.720> one<00:19:30.120> because<00:19:31.280> sitting<00:19:31.880> there<00:19:33.040> and<00:19:33.280> watching<00:19:33.800> where

00:19:34.000 --> 00:19:38.800
the<00:19:34.120> world<00:19:34.480> is<00:19:34.640> and<00:19:34.800> where<00:19:34.960> it<00:19:35.080> feels<00:19:35.320> like<00:19:35.480> the<00:19:35.560> world<00:19:35.800> is<00:19:35.920> going<00:19:36.400> and<00:19:36.560> just<00:19:36.760> saying,<00:19:37.040> well,<00:19:37.200> I<00:19:37.280> can't<00:19:37.520> do<00:19:37.600> anything<00:19:37.840> about<00:19:38.160> it.

00:19:38.800 --> 00:19:45.640
That's<00:19:39.040> BS.<00:19:40.240> Like<00:19:40.680> you<00:19:40.880> can<00:19:41.160> do<00:19:41.320> something<00:19:41.640> about<00:19:41.920> it,<00:19:42.080> but<00:19:42.240> you<00:19:42.360> have<00:19:42.480> to<00:19:42.640> put<00:19:43.080> in<00:19:43.240> the<00:19:43.440> energy<00:19:43.880> and<00:19:44.000> the<00:19:44.120> effort<00:19:44.600> to<00:19:44.840> it.

00:19:45.640 --> 00:19:50.200
And<00:19:45.720> that<00:19:45.840> can<00:19:45.960> either<00:19:46.160> be<00:19:46.320> what<00:19:46.440> you<00:19:46.560> do<00:19:46.680> in<00:19:46.760> your<00:19:46.880> day<00:19:47.040> job.<00:19:48.160> It<00:19:48.280> can<00:19:48.480> be<00:19:48.840> a<00:19:48.960> side<00:19:49.240> project.

00:19:50.200 --> 00:19:55.480
It<00:19:50.320> has<00:19:50.560> to<00:19:50.680> be<00:19:50.800> focused<00:19:51.400> to<00:19:51.480> have,<00:19:51.920> you<00:19:51.960> know,<00:19:52.120> any<00:19:52.320> form<00:19:52.960> of<00:19:53.600> possibility<00:19:54.200> or<00:19:54.280> success.

00:19:55.480 --> 00:20:02.960
Um,<00:19:56.040> but<00:19:56.160> I<00:19:56.200> think<00:19:56.480> everybody<00:19:56.960> should<00:19:57.200> be<00:19:57.320> doing<00:19:57.600> that<00:19:58.000> in<00:19:58.120> their<00:19:58.360> own<00:19:58.560> way<00:19:58.760> and<00:19:58.960> focusing<00:19:59.520> on<00:19:59.680> that<00:19:59.920> positive<00:20:00.520> world<00:20:00.800> change<00:20:01.160> rather<00:20:01.440> than<00:20:01.600> focusing<00:20:02.120> on<00:20:02.280> sniping<00:20:02.800> on

00:20:02.960 --> 00:20:06.120
other<00:20:03.160> people<00:20:03.640> or<00:20:03.800> saying<00:20:04.120> those<00:20:04.360> people<00:20:04.680> over<00:20:04.840> there<00:20:05.080> are<00:20:05.200> so<00:20:05.400> bad.

00:20:06.120 --> 00:20:07.920
That's<00:20:06.320> not<00:20:06.520> productive.<00:20:07.640> Right?

00:20:07.920 --> 00:20:10.960
Productive<00:20:08.480> is<00:20:08.680> building<00:20:09.360> something<00:20:09.920> and<00:20:10.120> creating<00:20:10.600> change.

00:20:10.960 --> 00:20:19.360
So<00:20:11.080> that's<00:20:11.480> the<00:20:11.520> second<00:20:11.800> thing<00:20:11.960> I<00:20:12.040> think.<00:20:13.240> The<00:20:13.320> third<00:20:13.600> thing<00:20:13.760> I<00:20:13.800> think<00:20:14.120> is,<00:20:14.760> you<00:20:14.880> know,<00:20:15.120> on<00:20:15.320> the<00:20:15.720> on<00:20:15.880> the<00:20:16.000> topic<00:20:16.400> of<00:20:17.200> CEOs<00:20:18.160> kind<00:20:18.280> of<00:20:18.360> having<00:20:18.640> a<00:20:18.680> perspective<00:20:19.240> on

00:20:19.360 --> 00:20:26.920
what's<00:20:19.520> happening<00:20:19.800> in<00:20:19.880> the<00:20:19.920> world.<00:20:20.840> There<00:20:20.960> are<00:20:21.000> certain<00:20:21.320> areas<00:20:21.680> where<00:20:22.360> I<00:20:22.480> will<00:20:22.720> engage<00:20:23.160> in<00:20:23.240> that<00:20:23.560> because<00:20:23.920> I<00:20:24.320> because<00:20:24.640> I<00:20:24.680> legitimately<00:20:25.400> do<00:20:25.640> because<00:20:26.000> I<00:20:26.080> see<00:20:26.360> it<00:20:26.720> through

00:20:26.920 --> 00:20:29.440
an<00:20:27.120> area<00:20:27.480> that<00:20:27.720> I<00:20:27.840> deal<00:20:28.120> in<00:20:28.240> all<00:20:28.440> day.

00:20:29.440 --> 00:20:32.640
Like<00:20:29.960> the<00:20:30.080> ethics<00:20:30.440> of<00:20:30.560> AI<00:20:31.240> or<00:20:31.520> immigration,<00:20:32.360> right?

00:20:32.640 --> 00:20:35.120
Like<00:20:32.880> most<00:20:33.160> CEOs<00:20:33.600> are<00:20:33.680> like,<00:20:33.880> I<00:20:33.920> don't<00:20:34.040> want<00:20:34.160> to<00:20:34.240> talk<00:20:34.400> about<00:20:34.600> immigration.

00:20:35.120 --> 00:20:42.200
I'm<00:20:35.280> like,<00:20:35.520> well,<00:20:36.480> we<00:20:36.520> need<00:20:36.760> lots<00:20:37.120> and<00:20:37.240> lots<00:20:37.440> of<00:20:37.480> people<00:20:37.760> to<00:20:37.880> take<00:20:38.080> care<00:20:38.240> of<00:20:38.360> the<00:20:38.520> aging<00:20:38.800> population<00:20:39.360> that's<00:20:39.520> going<00:20:39.640> to<00:20:39.720> outnumber<00:20:40.160> the<00:20:40.280> young<00:20:41.080> very<00:20:41.400> soon,<00:20:41.840> right?

00:20:42.200 --> 00:20:44.520
I<00:20:42.280> am<00:20:42.440> happy<00:20:42.760> to<00:20:42.880> talk<00:20:43.080> about<00:20:43.280> that<00:20:43.480> in<00:20:43.560> a<00:20:43.600> non-partisan<00:20:44.280> way.

00:20:44.520 --> 00:20:46.920
It's<00:20:44.640> just<00:20:44.760> like<00:20:44.920> a<00:20:44.960> truth,<00:20:45.320> right?<00:20:45.680> Like<00:20:46.560> Yeah.

00:20:46.920 --> 00:20:49.320
have<00:20:47.160> people<00:20:47.640> old<00:20:47.800> people<00:20:48.080> going<00:20:48.200> to<00:20:48.280> be<00:20:48.360> in<00:20:48.440> trouble,<00:20:48.880> you<00:20:48.960> know?

00:20:49.320 --> 00:20:57.600
Like<00:20:49.720> that<00:20:49.754> [laughter]<00:20:49.920> easy.<00:20:51.200> Um,<00:20:51.960> whereas<00:20:53.120> things<00:20:53.400> that<00:20:53.520> I<00:20:53.600> just<00:20:53.840> don't<00:20:54.160> know<00:20:54.400> anything<00:20:54.840> about,<00:20:55.920> I<00:20:56.040> am<00:20:56.200> very<00:20:56.480> comfortable<00:20:57.000> saying,<00:20:57.480> I

00:20:57.600 --> 00:21:00.920
just<00:20:57.800> don't<00:20:58.040> have<00:20:58.200> a<00:20:58.280> clue.<00:20:58.640> I'm<00:20:58.800> sorry.<00:20:59.200> I<00:20:59.280> can't<00:20:59.640> weigh<00:20:59.800> in<00:21:00.000> cuz<00:21:00.200> I<00:21:00.280> don't<00:21:00.440> know.

00:21:00.920 --> 00:21:04.040
Right?<00:21:01.280> Like<00:21:01.480> there<00:21:01.640> are<00:21:01.680> other<00:21:01.880> people<00:21:02.160> who<00:21:02.280> are<00:21:02.400> more<00:21:02.600> expert<00:21:02.920> on<00:21:03.040> that<00:21:03.240> one<00:21:03.400> than<00:21:03.600> I<00:21:03.720> am.

00:21:04.040 --> 00:21:09.600
Like<00:21:05.080> I,<00:21:05.960> I<00:21:06.040> don't<00:21:06.200> know<00:21:06.400> anything<00:21:06.640> about<00:21:06.960> it,<00:21:07.280> so<00:21:08.520> sorry.

00:21:09.600 --> 00:21:14.680
Yeah,<00:21:09.920> I<00:21:10.000> think<00:21:10.200> that<00:21:10.320> I<00:21:10.400> think<00:21:10.560> that's<00:21:10.800> the<00:21:10.880> appropriate<00:21:11.480> way<00:21:11.760> to<00:21:11.960> go<00:21:12.160> to<00:21:12.320> go<00:21:12.440> about<00:21:13.040> all<00:21:13.280> of<00:21:13.360> that,<00:21:13.680> honestly.

00:21:14.680 --> 00:21:20.880
I,<00:21:14.920> I<00:21:15.040> wonder<00:21:16.160> if<00:21:16.360> you're<00:21:16.480> experiencing<00:21:16.960> this,<00:21:17.160> we're<00:21:17.280> experiencing<00:21:17.720> this<00:21:17.880> a<00:21:17.920> little<00:21:18.120> bit<00:21:18.360> in<00:21:18.440> the<00:21:18.520> community<00:21:18.840> that<00:21:18.960> I'm<00:21:19.080> from,<00:21:19.280> which<00:21:19.400> is<00:21:19.520> Utah,<00:21:20.320> which<00:21:20.480> is<00:21:20.600> a<00:21:20.640> bit<00:21:20.800> of

00:21:20.880 --> 00:21:23.680
like<00:21:21.080> a<00:21:21.360> mental<00:21:21.880> health<00:21:22.200> crisis,<00:21:23.240> right?

00:21:23.680 --> 00:21:30.480
And,<00:21:23.920> and<00:21:24.000> we've<00:21:24.120> been<00:21:24.240> experiencing<00:21:24.640> that<00:21:24.800> for,<00:21:25.160> for<00:21:25.840> at<00:21:25.920> least<00:21:26.120> since<00:21:26.360> COVID,<00:21:26.720> maybe<00:21:26.960> even<00:21:27.360> before,<00:21:27.760> but<00:21:28.320> COVID<00:21:28.640> really<00:21:28.920> made<00:21:29.120> it<00:21:29.240> kind<00:21:29.440> of<00:21:29.520> pronounced.

00:21:30.480 --> 00:21:32.760
Yep.<00:21:30.920> How,<00:21:31.160> how<00:21:31.280> do<00:21:31.360> you<00:21:31.520> think<00:21:31.840> about<00:21:32.160> that?

00:21:32.760 --> 00:21:35.400
How<00:21:32.840> are<00:21:32.960> you<00:21:33.080> working<00:21:33.360> that<00:21:33.600> internally,<00:21:34.560> externally?

00:21:35.400 --> 00:21:40.840
Like,<00:21:36.000> what,<00:21:36.280> what,<00:21:36.520> what,<00:21:36.840> what,<00:21:37.080> what<00:21:37.240> strategies<00:21:37.880> or<00:21:38.000> what<00:21:38.120> have<00:21:38.240> you?<00:21:39.080> What<00:21:39.200> are<00:21:39.280> your,<00:21:39.440> what's<00:21:39.600> your<00:21:39.720> overall<00:21:40.040> take<00:21:40.240> on<00:21:40.360> that?

00:21:40.840 --> 00:21:44.800
Uh,<00:21:41.440> so,<00:21:41.600> this<00:21:41.760> was<00:21:41.880> another<00:21:42.160> topic<00:21:42.480> that<00:21:42.640> came<00:21:42.800> up<00:21:42.920> this<00:21:43.040> weekend<00:21:43.320> with<00:21:43.440> this<00:21:43.600> group<00:21:43.760> of<00:21:43.840> friends.

00:21:44.800 --> 00:21:53.320
Um,<00:21:45.720> and<00:21:46.080> what<00:21:46.240> I<00:21:46.320> said<00:21:46.800> to<00:21:46.920> them,<00:21:47.560> 'cause<00:21:47.720> we<00:21:47.800> were<00:21:47.880> talking<00:21:48.200> about<00:21:49.040> the<00:21:49.160> question<00:21:49.520> that<00:21:49.800> had<00:21:49.960> been<00:21:50.160> asked<00:21:50.480> is,<00:21:51.200> um,<00:21:51.960> you<00:21:52.080> know,<00:21:52.280> what,<00:21:53.000> what

00:21:53.320 --> 00:21:57.080
over<00:21:53.480> the<00:21:53.560> last<00:21:53.920> year<00:21:54.040> has<00:21:54.160> gone<00:21:54.400> well<00:21:54.600> for<00:21:54.760> you<00:21:54.880> and<00:21:55.000> what's<00:21:55.200> gone<00:21:55.600> poorly<00:21:55.880> for<00:21:56.040> you.

00:21:57.080 --> 00:22:01.560
And<00:21:57.280> I<00:21:57.320> said,<00:21:57.520> "Hey,<00:21:57.680> look,<00:21:57.840> like<00:21:58.040> I'm<00:21:58.160> lucky,<00:21:59.000> um,<00:21:59.480> and<00:21:59.840> everything's<00:22:00.200> kind<00:22:00.360> of<00:22:00.440> going<00:22:00.560> well<00:22:00.760> for<00:22:00.880> me."

00:22:01.560 --> 00:22:06.880
Uh,<00:22:01.920> and<00:22:02.080> like,<00:22:02.360> where<00:22:02.560> I<00:22:02.640> have<00:22:02.880> problems,<00:22:03.480> I<00:22:03.600> think<00:22:03.800> they're<00:22:03.960> very<00:22:04.240> small<00:22:04.520> problems<00:22:05.000> in<00:22:05.080> the<00:22:05.160> grand<00:22:05.440> scheme<00:22:05.720> of<00:22:05.800> things.

00:22:06.880 --> 00:22:10.320
I<00:22:07.000> don't,<00:22:07.240> I<00:22:07.320> don't<00:22:07.480> have<00:22:07.640> a,<00:22:07.960> I<00:22:08.000> don't<00:22:08.160> have,<00:22:08.520> I<00:22:08.560> don't,<00:22:08.720> you<00:22:08.800> know,<00:22:08.880> I'm,<00:22:09.120> I'm<00:22:09.240> good.

00:22:10.320 --> 00:22:18.520
What<00:22:10.720> really<00:22:11.240> worries<00:22:11.880> me<00:22:12.080> from<00:22:12.320> the<00:22:12.440> last<00:22:12.760> 12<00:22:13.080> months,<00:22:13.400> which<00:22:13.600> to<00:22:13.720> your<00:22:13.840> point<00:22:14.120> is<00:22:14.240> more<00:22:14.440> like<00:22:14.640> a<00:22:14.680> last<00:22:15.000> 4<00:22:15.200> years,<00:22:15.880> is<00:22:16.880> very<00:22:17.440> specifically<00:22:18.120> like<00:22:18.400> the

00:22:18.520 --> 00:22:24.320
trajectory<00:22:20.080> of<00:22:20.760> the<00:22:20.880> fighting<00:22:21.280> in<00:22:21.440> society<00:22:22.240> just<00:22:22.520> has<00:22:22.760> to<00:22:22.880> stop.

00:22:24.320 --> 00:22:32.600
Um,<00:22:25.160> the<00:22:25.680> default<00:22:26.840> demonization<00:22:27.960> of<00:22:28.200> the<00:22:28.440> other<00:22:28.800> side<00:22:30.040> has<00:22:30.640> to<00:22:30.800> stop.

00:22:32.600 --> 00:22:38.160
And<00:22:33.800> the<00:22:34.080> people<00:22:34.800> have<00:22:35.240> to<00:22:35.440> hold<00:22:35.880> the<00:22:35.960> leaders<00:22:36.440> accountable.

00:22:38.160 --> 00:22:48.600
And<00:22:38.360> they<00:22:38.520> are<00:22:38.640> not.<00:22:40.120> Because<00:22:41.240> in<00:22:41.520> politics<00:22:43.320> people<00:22:43.800> are<00:22:44.320> more<00:22:44.840> and<00:22:45.040> more<00:22:45.440> moving<00:22:45.960> toward<00:22:46.680> zero-sumism.

00:22:48.600 --> 00:22:54.040
They're<00:22:48.960> more<00:22:49.480> and<00:22:49.680> more<00:22:50.040> moving<00:22:50.520> toward<00:22:51.560> sniping<00:22:52.520> at<00:22:52.680> each<00:22:52.880> other.

00:22:54.040 --> 00:22:59.480
And<00:22:54.840> if<00:22:55.040> you<00:22:55.200> want<00:22:55.360> to<00:22:55.440> talk<00:22:55.680> about<00:22:55.960> something<00:22:56.200> that<00:22:56.320> affects<00:22:56.680> mental<00:22:57.000> health,<00:22:57.560> I<00:22:57.680> think<00:22:57.920> it's<00:22:58.080> that.

00:22:59.480 --> 00:23:06.320
Right?<00:22:59.800> Like,<00:23:00.080> I<00:23:00.240> don't<00:23:00.560> want<00:23:00.840> my<00:23:01.080> kids,<00:23:01.760> who<00:23:01.960> are<00:23:02.080> 10<00:23:02.360> and<00:23:02.560> 7,<00:23:03.560> to<00:23:03.760> watch<00:23:04.000> a<00:23:04.040> political<00:23:04.520> TV<00:23:04.760> on<00:23:04.880> TV<00:23:05.200> anymore.

00:23:06.320 --> 00:23:08.280
Yeah,<00:23:06.760> oh<00:23:06.880> my<00:23:07.000> gosh.<00:23:07.440> That's<00:23:07.560> insane,<00:23:08.040> right?

00:23:08.280 --> 00:23:12.680
When<00:23:08.440> I<00:23:08.520> was<00:23:08.640> a<00:23:08.680> kid,<00:23:09.280> it's<00:23:09.440> like,<00:23:09.600> "Hey,<00:23:09.840> there's<00:23:10.080> going<00:23:10.240> to<00:23:10.320> be<00:23:10.520> a<00:23:10.560> presidential<00:23:11.240> debate."

00:23:12.680 --> 00:23:20.000
And,<00:23:13.160> and<00:23:13.400> you<00:23:13.760> should<00:23:14.240> learn<00:23:14.600> about<00:23:14.920> the<00:23:15.040> world<00:23:15.520> by<00:23:15.760> watching<00:23:16.920> a<00:23:17.000> substantive<00:23:17.800> discussion<00:23:18.360> about<00:23:18.640> the<00:23:18.840> issues.

00:23:20.000 --> 00:23:25.840
So<00:23:20.240> that<00:23:20.400> we<00:23:20.480> can<00:23:20.720> figure<00:23:21.080> out<00:23:21.280> what<00:23:21.520> might<00:23:21.760> be<00:23:21.920> the<00:23:22.080> best<00:23:22.440> policy<00:23:23.000> or<00:23:23.120> way<00:23:23.320> to<00:23:23.440> move<00:23:23.680> the<00:23:23.800> world<00:23:24.120> forward.

00:23:25.840 --> 00:23:31.960
And<00:23:26.080> now<00:23:26.600> I<00:23:26.720> would<00:23:26.880> never<00:23:27.160> watch<00:23:27.520> let<00:23:27.720> my<00:23:28.040> young<00:23:28.280> kids<00:23:28.520> watch<00:23:28.800> the<00:23:28.880> presidential<00:23:29.400> debate<00:23:29.720> unless<00:23:30.000> I<00:23:30.080> wanted<00:23:30.360> them<00:23:30.480> to<00:23:30.600> learn<00:23:30.800> how<00:23:30.920> to<00:23:31.040> name<00:23:31.320> call.

00:23:31.960 --> 00:23:37.360
Exactly.<00:23:32.720> And<00:23:32.880> snipe<00:23:33.200> at<00:23:33.320> each<00:23:33.440> other.<00:23:34.161> [laughter]<00:23:34.880> And<00:23:35.120> that<00:23:35.360> is<00:23:35.480> just<00:23:35.920> so<00:23:36.280> deeply<00:23:36.840> broken.

00:23:37.360 --> 00:23:43.280
And<00:23:37.560> unless<00:23:38.880> that's<00:23:39.880> the<00:23:40.040> problem<00:23:40.520> is<00:23:40.680> that<00:23:41.120> stuff<00:23:41.440> sells.

00:23:43.280 --> 00:23:47.640
Well,<00:23:43.600> yes,<00:23:44.320> that<00:23:44.840> those<00:23:45.200> are<00:23:45.280> the<00:23:45.400> politicians<00:23:46.160> that<00:23:46.320> get<00:23:46.520> rewarded<00:23:47.080> currently.

00:23:47.640 --> 00:23:52.880
And<00:23:47.760> that<00:23:48.040> is<00:23:48.280> on<00:23:48.520> us<00:23:49.480> as<00:23:49.680> much<00:23:49.960> as<00:23:50.080> not<00:23:50.280> more<00:23:50.640> than<00:23:50.880> it's<00:23:51.080> on<00:23:51.240> the<00:23:51.320> politicians<00:23:52.000> themselves.

00:23:52.880 --> 00:23:58.080
Their<00:23:53.120> job<00:23:53.640> is<00:23:53.840> to<00:23:53.960> get<00:23:54.120> elected<00:23:54.720> and<00:23:54.800> their<00:23:54.960> job<00:23:55.240> is<00:23:55.400> to,<00:23:55.960> you<00:23:56.120> know,<00:23:56.880> win<00:23:57.320> and<00:23:57.480> things<00:23:57.720> like<00:23:57.880> that.

00:23:58.080 --> 00:24:05.960
So<00:23:58.160> they<00:23:58.320> look<00:23:58.600> at<00:23:58.720> how<00:23:58.840> to<00:23:59.000> do<00:23:59.280> it<00:23:59.440> and<00:23:59.560> they<00:23:59.680> say,<00:23:59.880> "Well,<00:24:00.080> if<00:24:00.200> I<00:24:00.320> can<00:24:00.480> be<00:24:00.760> the<00:24:00.880> more<00:24:01.080> divisive<00:24:01.640> I<00:24:01.760> am<00:24:01.880> and<00:24:02.000> the<00:24:02.040> more<00:24:02.240> de-<00:24:03.280> demonizing<00:24:03.880> I<00:24:03.960> am<00:24:04.160> to<00:24:04.280> my<00:24:04.400> opponent<00:24:04.960> or<00:24:05.120> to<00:24:05.800> my

00:24:05.960 --> 00:24:11.960
opponents<00:24:06.720> and<00:24:06.960> the<00:24:07.160> opposite<00:24:07.560> party,<00:24:08.480> the<00:24:08.600> more<00:24:08.880> likely<00:24:09.320> I<00:24:09.440> am<00:24:09.600> to<00:24:09.720> succeed<00:24:10.280> and<00:24:10.560> we<00:24:10.960> reward<00:24:11.520> that."

00:24:11.960 --> 00:24:14.200
Correct.<00:24:12.520> And<00:24:12.680> that<00:24:12.920> is<00:24:13.080> the<00:24:13.200> problem,<00:24:13.800> right?

00:24:14.200 --> 00:24:22.400
The<00:24:14.320> problem<00:24:14.800> is<00:24:14.960> is<00:24:15.080> that<00:24:15.320> the<00:24:15.440> people<00:24:15.920> are<00:24:16.040> rewarding<00:24:16.640> that<00:24:16.840> behavior<00:24:18.000> instead<00:24:19.040> of<00:24:19.640> holding<00:24:20.120> that<00:24:20.360> behavior<00:24:20.800> to<00:24:21.000> account.

00:24:22.400 --> 00:24:27.200
And,<00:24:22.880> and<00:24:23.040> that's<00:24:23.320> a<00:24:23.400> big<00:24:23.640> problem.<00:24:24.000> This<00:24:24.200> is<00:24:24.320> not<00:24:24.520> a<00:24:24.560> political<00:24:24.920> party<00:24:25.160> thing.<00:24:25.800> Oh,<00:24:26.160> of<00:24:26.280> course<00:24:26.520> not.

00:24:27.200 --> 00:24:33.320
This<00:24:27.520> isn't<00:24:27.840> a<00:24:28.160> relatively<00:24:28.480> new<00:24:28.800> thing<00:24:29.120> either,<00:24:29.440> but<00:24:29.760> you<00:24:30.080> know,<00:24:30.400> like<00:24:30.720> it's,<00:24:31.040> it's<00:24:31.360> becoming<00:24:31.680> more<00:24:32.000> and<00:24:32.320> more<00:24:32.640> pronounced.

00:24:33.320 --> 00:24:37.360
Yeah,<00:24:33.720> exactly.<00:24:34.520> And<00:24:34.720> so,<00:24:35.160> you<00:24:35.200> know,<00:24:35.360> that<00:24:35.640> is<00:24:35.800> the<00:24:35.920> number<00:24:36.240> one<00:24:36.440> thing<00:24:36.640> I'm<00:24:36.760> worried<00:24:37.000> about.

00:24:37.360 --> 00:24:46.360
I'm<00:24:37.560> worried<00:24:37.840> about<00:24:38.640> that<00:24:39.720> and<00:24:39.880> when<00:24:40.040> you<00:24:40.120> talk<00:24:40.360> about<00:24:42.240> 'cause<00:24:42.640> with<00:24:42.840> this<00:24:42.960> group<00:24:43.160> of<00:24:43.240> friends,<00:24:43.520> I<00:24:43.560> was<00:24:43.680> like,<00:24:43.840> "Look,<00:24:44.040> this<00:24:44.280> is<00:24:44.840> creating<00:24:46.200> or

00:24:46.360 --> 00:24:50.120
going<00:24:46.640> to<00:24:46.720> create<00:24:47.160> like<00:24:47.360> serious<00:24:48.120> mental<00:24:48.480> health<00:24:48.760> issues."

00:24:50.120 --> 00:24:56.720
And<00:24:50.400> they<00:24:50.640> raised<00:24:51.000> their<00:24:51.200> hands<00:24:51.600> and<00:24:51.680> a<00:24:51.720> bunch<00:24:51.960> of<00:24:52.000> these<00:24:52.160> folks<00:24:52.400> are<00:24:52.480> actually<00:24:52.760> older<00:24:53.000> than<00:24:53.120> I<00:24:53.240> am<00:24:53.360> and<00:24:53.440> they're<00:24:53.520> like,<00:24:53.680> "Look,<00:24:53.840> my<00:24:53.960> 35-year-old<00:24:54.760> daughter<00:24:56.080> literally

00:24:56.720 --> 00:25:01.600
told<00:24:56.920> me<00:24:57.040> the<00:24:57.120> other<00:24:57.280> day<00:24:57.440> she<00:24:57.640> thinks<00:24:57.960> she<00:24:58.040> doesn't<00:24:58.200> want<00:24:58.320> to<00:24:58.360> bring<00:24:58.520> kids<00:24:58.720> into<00:24:58.880> this<00:24:59.040> world<00:24:59.520> 'cause<00:24:59.720> it's<00:24:59.800> just<00:24:59.960> too<00:25:00.080> messed<00:25:00.360> up.

00:25:01.600 --> 00:25:05.640
And<00:25:02.160> you<00:25:02.240> know,<00:25:02.400> that's<00:25:02.880> the<00:25:03.080> kind<00:25:03.560> of<00:25:04.360> potential<00:25:04.920> outcome<00:25:05.280> here.

00:25:05.640 --> 00:25:07.640
Like<00:25:06.000> literally<00:25:06.440> people<00:25:06.760> saying,<00:25:07.080> you<00:25:07.160> know<00:25:07.320> what?

00:25:07.640 --> 00:25:12.640
We're<00:25:07.800> trajectorying<00:25:08.600> into<00:25:08.760> such<00:25:08.960> a<00:25:09.040> bad<00:25:09.320> place<00:25:10.320> that<00:25:10.600> I<00:25:10.640> don't<00:25:10.800> want<00:25:10.920> to<00:25:11.000> bring<00:25:11.160> kids<00:25:11.360> into<00:25:11.560> this<00:25:11.720> world.

00:25:12.640 --> 00:25:18.120
So<00:25:13.320> this<00:25:13.720> to<00:25:13.880> me<00:25:14.080> is<00:25:14.240> the<00:25:14.360> number<00:25:14.640> one<00:25:14.880> thing<00:25:15.400> that<00:25:15.880> we<00:25:16.400> need<00:25:16.640> to<00:25:16.760> go<00:25:16.920> fix<00:25:17.400> societally.

00:25:18.120 --> 00:25:22.680
Like<00:25:18.400> we<00:25:18.520> need<00:25:18.720> to<00:25:18.840> figure<00:25:19.160> out<00:25:19.320> how<00:25:19.440> to<00:25:19.960> build<00:25:20.880> instead<00:25:21.240> of<00:25:21.320> tear<00:25:21.560> down.

00:25:22.680 --> 00:25:27.920
And<00:25:23.360> partner<00:25:24.280> instead<00:25:24.760> of,<00:25:25.200> you<00:25:25.280> know,<00:25:25.760> compete<00:25:26.360> or<00:25:26.600> go<00:25:26.720> to<00:25:26.840> war.

00:25:27.920 --> 00:25:36.240
Um,<00:25:28.880> so<00:25:28.960> I<00:25:29.040> really<00:25:29.240> hope<00:25:29.360> we<00:25:29.440> do<00:25:29.600> it<00:25:29.720> 'cause<00:25:29.840> I,<00:25:30.080> I<00:25:30.160> think<00:25:30.400> that<00:25:30.560> that<00:25:30.920> is,<00:25:31.680> I<00:25:31.800> think<00:25:32.040> that<00:25:32.480> is<00:25:32.680> the<00:25:32.800> source<00:25:33.720> of<00:25:33.960> so<00:25:34.200> much<00:25:34.440> of<00:25:34.560> kind<00:25:34.800> of<00:25:34.920> the<00:25:35.360> mental<00:25:35.800> strain<00:25:36.080> that

00:25:36.240 --> 00:25:39.680
people<00:25:36.480> are<00:25:36.560> feeling<00:25:36.880> right<00:25:37.040> now,<00:25:37.200> actually.<00:25:38.320> I<00:25:38.400> couldn't<00:25:38.680> agree<00:25:38.880> with<00:25:39.000> you<00:25:39.120> more.

00:25:39.680 --> 00:25:46.680
And<00:25:40.760> you<00:25:40.840> know,<00:25:41.000> one<00:25:41.200> of<00:25:41.240> the<00:25:41.360> technologies,<00:25:42.440> and<00:25:42.560> I<00:25:42.600> don't<00:25:42.720> know<00:25:42.800> how<00:25:42.880> you<00:25:42.960> feel<00:25:43.120> about<00:25:43.400> this,<00:25:43.720> but<00:25:43.840> one<00:25:43.960> of<00:25:44.040> the<00:25:44.120> technologies<00:25:44.800> you<00:25:44.880> mentioned<00:25:45.160> before<00:25:45.480> like<00:25:46.160> you<00:25:46.360> wish

00:25:46.680 --> 00:25:53.080
that<00:25:47.520> Silicon<00:25:47.800> Valley<00:25:48.000> had<00:25:48.120> focused<00:25:48.520> on<00:25:48.680> this<00:25:48.920> a<00:25:48.960> little<00:25:49.160> bit<00:25:49.320> more<00:25:49.880> on<00:25:50.000> like<00:25:50.240> what<00:25:50.360> would<00:25:50.480> be<00:25:50.640> a<00:25:50.720> world<00:25:51.040> good<00:25:51.360> versus<00:25:51.720> a<00:25:51.800> world<00:25:52.160> negative.

00:25:53.080 --> 00:25:56.760
Does<00:25:53.240> seem<00:25:53.440> like<00:25:53.560> we<00:25:53.720> know<00:25:53.920> now<00:25:54.160> that<00:25:54.280> social<00:25:54.640> media<00:25:54.960> is<00:25:55.080> a<00:25:55.160> negative<00:25:55.840> for<00:25:55.960> the<00:25:56.080> world,<00:25:56.520> right?

00:25:56.760 --> 00:26:04.440
And<00:25:57.040> then<00:25:57.200> a<00:25:57.240> lot<00:25:57.680> of<00:25:58.600> money<00:25:59.000> and<00:25:59.200> resources<00:25:59.920> and<00:26:00.080> time<00:26:00.360> has<00:26:00.480> been<00:26:00.640> devoted<00:26:01.160> to<00:26:01.360> keeping<00:26:01.800> us<00:26:02.000> on<00:26:02.600> those<00:26:02.920> those<00:26:03.120> various<00:26:03.440> platforms.

00:26:04.440 --> 00:26:07.960
Yeah.<00:26:05.160> How<00:26:05.200> do<00:26:05.280> you<00:26:05.400> think<00:26:05.600> about<00:26:05.800> that?<00:26:06.040> I<00:26:06.120> mean,<00:26:06.320> what<00:26:06.440> do<00:26:06.520> we?<00:26:07.080> Great<00:26:07.240> question.

00:26:07.960 --> 00:26:10.320
What<00:26:08.160> do<00:26:08.240> you?<00:26:08.320> Who<00:26:08.400> knows<00:26:08.560> what<00:26:08.680> you<00:26:08.760> do<00:26:08.920> there,<00:26:09.400> obviously.<00:26:09.760> Yeah.

00:26:10.320 --> 00:26:14.800
So<00:26:11.200> there's,<00:26:12.080> let<00:26:12.200> me<00:26:12.360> lay<00:26:12.560> out<00:26:12.920> the<00:26:13.000> arguments<00:26:13.440> here.

00:26:14.800 --> 00:26:22.440
One<00:26:15.080> argument<00:26:16.040> on<00:26:16.480> social<00:26:16.880> media<00:26:17.520> is<00:26:18.000> well,<00:26:18.240> if<00:26:18.480> you<00:26:18.560> know,<00:26:18.680> if<00:26:18.800> you<00:26:18.880> talk<00:26:19.080> to<00:26:19.160> an<00:26:19.240> entrepreneur<00:26:19.680> who's<00:26:19.880> built<00:26:20.120> a<00:26:20.160> social<00:26:20.480> media<00:26:20.720> company,<00:26:21.480> one<00:26:21.720> part,<00:26:22.000> one<00:26:22.200> thing<00:26:22.320> they'll

00:26:22.440 --> 00:26:26.520
say<00:26:22.640> is<00:26:22.880> I'm<00:26:23.040> just<00:26:23.240> giving<00:26:23.480> people<00:26:24.040> a<00:26:24.120> platform<00:26:24.520> for<00:26:24.640> free<00:26:24.840> speech.

00:26:26.520 --> 00:26:31.080
Another<00:26:26.840> thing<00:26:27.040> they'll<00:26:27.200> say<00:26:27.440> is<00:26:27.600> well,<00:26:27.720> if<00:26:27.920> I<00:26:28.000> don't<00:26:28.200> do<00:26:28.360> it,<00:26:28.480> someone<00:26:28.760> else<00:26:28.880> will<00:26:29.000> do<00:26:29.160> it<00:26:29.240> 'cause<00:26:29.400> the<00:26:29.520> market<00:26:29.880> will<00:26:30.040> just<00:26:30.240> do<00:26:30.400> it.

00:26:31.080 --> 00:26:40.240
Right?<00:26:32.200> The<00:26:32.320> problem<00:26:32.880> is<00:26:33.440> is<00:26:33.680> that<00:26:34.400> it<00:26:34.600> turns<00:26:35.200> out<00:26:35.520> that<00:26:35.680> the<00:26:35.960> algorithms<00:26:36.840> are<00:26:37.320> rewarding<00:26:38.280> what<00:26:38.520> drives<00:26:38.920> clicks.

00:26:40.240 --> 00:26:44.680
And<00:26:40.440> once<00:26:40.680> again,<00:26:41.080> what<00:26:41.200> the<00:26:41.280> people<00:26:41.600> are<00:26:41.680> choosing<00:26:42.000> to<00:26:42.120> click<00:26:42.360> on<00:26:43.440> is<00:26:43.640> the<00:26:43.760> divisive<00:26:44.240> stuff,<00:26:44.520> right?

00:26:44.680 --> 00:26:49.320
It<00:26:44.760> goes<00:26:44.960> straight<00:26:45.280> back<00:26:45.640> to<00:26:45.840> the<00:26:46.200> conversation<00:26:46.760> we're<00:26:46.880> having<00:26:47.160> about<00:26:47.480> kind<00:26:47.640> of<00:26:47.720> where<00:26:47.840> has<00:26:48.000> our<00:26:48.120> politics<00:26:48.560> gone?

00:26:49.320 --> 00:26:57.720
It's<00:26:49.520> that<00:26:50.040> people<00:26:50.520> actually<00:26:51.520> reward<00:26:52.360> the<00:26:52.560> politician<00:26:53.280> or<00:26:53.440> reward<00:26:54.040> the<00:26:54.160> algorithm<00:26:55.000> by<00:26:55.440> clicking<00:26:55.840> on<00:26:56.000> the<00:26:56.080> divisive<00:26:56.520> stuff.

00:26:57.720 --> 00:27:04.080
Um,<00:26:58.440> and<00:26:59.080> this<00:26:59.360> is<00:26:59.640> the<00:26:59.760> problem<00:27:00.120> is<00:27:00.240> is<00:27:00.520> I<00:27:00.600> am<00:27:00.800> not<00:27:01.600> a<00:27:01.960> entrepreneur<00:27:02.360> who<00:27:02.440> runs<00:27:02.600> a<00:27:02.640> social<00:27:02.880> media<00:27:03.080> company.

00:27:04.080 --> 00:27:12.680
So,<00:27:04.760> I<00:27:04.920> do<00:27:05.120> not<00:27:05.440> know<00:27:05.640> how<00:27:05.800> to<00:27:05.960> fix<00:27:06.160> this<00:27:06.320> problem,<00:27:06.760> but<00:27:06.960> what<00:27:07.120> I<00:27:07.200> do<00:27:07.480> know<00:27:08.600> is<00:27:08.840> that<00:27:09.640> social<00:27:10.080> media<00:27:10.280> is<00:27:10.360> not<00:27:10.680> going<00:27:10.800> to<00:27:10.880> go<00:27:11.040> away.

00:27:12.680 --> 00:27:21.320
But<00:27:12.880> if<00:27:13.200> I<00:27:13.560> were<00:27:14.040> an<00:27:14.280> entrepreneur<00:27:15.120> working<00:27:15.480> on<00:27:15.600> a<00:27:15.680> social<00:27:16.040> media<00:27:16.360> company,<00:27:17.560> you<00:27:17.800> better<00:27:18.120> believe<00:27:18.440> that<00:27:18.680> I<00:27:18.800> would<00:27:18.960> be<00:27:19.080> trying<00:27:19.360> to<00:27:19.440> fix<00:27:19.680> this<00:27:19.840> problem.

00:27:21.320 --> 00:27:27.560
And<00:27:21.560> so,<00:27:21.800> I,<00:27:21.920> I<00:27:22.080> just<00:27:22.280> don't<00:27:22.440> know.<00:27:22.720> Like,<00:27:23.000> I<00:27:23.080> don't<00:27:23.280> know<00:27:23.640> if,<00:27:24.240> you<00:27:24.360> know,<00:27:24.800> the<00:27:25.000> entrepreneurs<00:27:25.480> of<00:27:25.560> all<00:27:25.640> the<00:27:25.720> social<00:27:25.960> media<00:27:26.240> companies<00:27:26.640> are<00:27:26.760> actually<00:27:27.080> working<00:27:27.360> on<00:27:27.480> it

00:27:27.560 --> 00:27:31.960
or<00:27:27.680> not.<00:27:28.040> I<00:27:28.080> have<00:27:28.240> not<00:27:28.440> asked<00:27:28.640> them.<00:27:29.000> I,<00:27:29.240> I<00:27:29.320> do<00:27:29.440> not<00:27:29.640> know,<00:27:30.200> but<00:27:30.360> that<00:27:30.600> is<00:27:30.720> what<00:27:30.880> I<00:27:31.000> would<00:27:31.160> hope.

00:27:31.960 --> 00:27:35.800
Right?<00:27:32.400> Is<00:27:32.560> that<00:27:32.680> they're<00:27:33.000> actually<00:27:33.440> trying<00:27:33.680> to<00:27:33.800> figure<00:27:34.120> out<00:27:34.240> how<00:27:34.360> to<00:27:34.480> solve<00:27:34.800> this.

00:27:35.800 --> 00:27:40.560
Because<00:27:36.120> when<00:27:36.280> they're,<00:27:36.640> you<00:27:36.760> know,<00:27:37.080> and<00:27:37.200> this<00:27:37.360> is<00:27:37.480> a<00:27:37.520> thing<00:27:37.720> that<00:27:37.840> I<00:27:37.880> think<00:27:38.120> everybody<00:27:38.600> should<00:27:38.760> hold<00:27:38.960> themselves<00:27:39.320> to.

00:27:40.560 --> 00:27:46.320
You,<00:27:41.440> like<00:27:41.720> everyone,<00:27:43.040> is<00:27:43.360> at<00:27:43.560> some<00:27:43.840> point<00:27:44.200> going<00:27:44.440> to<00:27:44.560> be<00:27:44.720> 2<00:27:44.920> weeks<00:27:45.120> away<00:27:45.280> from<00:27:45.440> dying.

00:27:46.320 --> 00:27:53.080
Mhm.<00:27:46.920> Everyone<00:27:47.240> will.<00:27:48.200> And<00:27:49.160> at<00:27:49.360> that<00:27:49.680> point,<00:27:50.360> all<00:27:50.600> the<00:27:50.720> money<00:27:50.960> you've<00:27:51.120> amassed<00:27:51.760> will<00:27:52.000> not<00:27:52.200> matter.

00:27:53.080 --> 00:27:56.760
'Cause<00:27:53.280> you're<00:27:53.360> going<00:27:53.480> to<00:27:53.520> die<00:27:53.640> in<00:27:53.760> 2<00:27:53.880> weeks.<00:27:54.440> You<00:27:54.520> can't<00:27:54.760> spend<00:27:55.000> any<00:27:55.160> of<00:27:55.240> it<00:27:55.320> anymore.

00:27:56.760 --> 00:28:03.200
And<00:27:57.240> all<00:27:57.400> the<00:27:57.480> power<00:27:57.800> that<00:27:57.960> you've<00:27:58.080> amassed<00:27:58.640> will<00:27:58.840> not<00:27:59.080> matter<00:27:59.520> because<00:27:59.760> people<00:28:00.040> will<00:28:00.160> have<00:28:00.560> basically<00:28:01.080> forgotten<00:28:01.520> about<00:28:01.800> you<00:28:02.000> or<00:28:02.160> not<00:28:02.400> care<00:28:02.560> about<00:28:02.800> you<00:28:02.880> anymore.

00:28:03.200 --> 00:28:05.920
Clint<00:28:03.440> Eastwood<00:28:03.720> actually<00:28:04.000> recently<00:28:04.360> had<00:28:04.520> a<00:28:04.560> really<00:28:04.840> good<00:28:05.120> kind<00:28:05.240> of<00:28:05.320> quote<00:28:05.560> about<00:28:05.800> this.

00:28:05.920 --> 00:28:11.760
I<00:28:06.000> forget<00:28:06.280> what<00:28:06.440> it<00:28:06.520> was,<00:28:06.720> but<00:28:06.800> he<00:28:06.880> basically<00:28:07.240> said,<00:28:07.920> "No<00:28:08.040> one<00:28:08.160> cares<00:28:08.400> anymore<00:28:08.760> because<00:28:09.080> I'm,<00:28:09.320> you<00:28:09.400> know,<00:28:09.520> I'm<00:28:09.600> dying<00:28:09.840> to<00:28:09.920> or<00:28:10.000> whatever<00:28:10.280> it<00:28:10.400> is<00:28:10.640> and<00:28:10.800> I'm,<00:28:11.080> you<00:28:11.200> know,<00:28:11.600> in

00:28:11.760 --> 00:28:14.760
my<00:28:11.920> last<00:28:12.280> years<00:28:12.760> and<00:28:13.000> blah<00:28:13.160> blah<00:28:13.280> blah."

00:28:14.760 --> 00:28:19.920
And<00:28:14.960> so,<00:28:15.080> you<00:28:15.280> have<00:28:15.400> to<00:28:15.520> ask<00:28:15.840> yourself,<00:28:17.040> what<00:28:17.400> do<00:28:17.480> you<00:28:17.600> want<00:28:17.840> your<00:28:17.960> legacy<00:28:18.400> to<00:28:18.480> be?

00:28:19.920 --> 00:28:24.000
Right?<00:28:20.840> And<00:28:21.200> how<00:28:21.400> do<00:28:21.520> you<00:28:21.640> want<00:28:21.880> people<00:28:22.240> to<00:28:22.360> remember<00:28:22.800> you?

00:28:24.000 --> 00:28:30.080
The<00:28:24.240> legacy<00:28:24.760> part<00:28:25.040> is<00:28:25.240> what<00:28:25.800> change<00:28:26.400> for<00:28:26.720> other<00:28:27.080> people<00:28:27.640> did<00:28:27.880> you<00:28:28.040> create?

00:28:30.080 --> 00:28:38.600
The<00:28:30.240> how<00:28:30.400> did<00:28:30.560> people<00:28:30.880> remember<00:28:31.400> you<00:28:31.680> is<00:28:32.520> what<00:28:32.920> part<00:28:33.440> in<00:28:33.760> that<00:28:34.080> change,<00:28:34.720> positive<00:28:35.320> or<00:28:35.440> negative,<00:28:36.360> did<00:28:36.680> you<00:28:36.880> play<00:28:37.200> and<00:28:37.360> do<00:28:37.520> people<00:28:37.960> remember<00:28:38.440> you

00:28:38.600 --> 00:28:47.080
by?<00:28:39.520> So,<00:28:39.720> if<00:28:39.840> you<00:28:40.120> aggregated<00:28:40.680> all<00:28:40.800> this<00:28:41.000> wealth<00:28:41.400> and<00:28:41.560> power,<00:28:42.640> but,<00:28:43.480> you<00:28:43.680> know,<00:28:43.800> your<00:28:44.000> legacy<00:28:44.560> is<00:28:45.040> you<00:28:45.200> drove<00:28:45.520> things<00:28:45.800> in<00:28:45.840> the<00:28:45.960> wrong<00:28:46.280> direction<00:28:46.960> and

00:28:47.080 --> 00:28:54.880
people<00:28:47.400> remember<00:28:47.840> you<00:28:47.960> as<00:28:48.080> the<00:28:48.160> person<00:28:48.440> who<00:28:48.520> did<00:28:48.760> that,<00:28:49.760> I<00:28:50.040> would<00:28:50.360> argue<00:28:50.880> that<00:28:51.240> that's<00:28:52.120> kind<00:28:52.320> of<00:28:52.400> a<00:28:52.440> sucky<00:28:52.760> place<00:28:52.960> to<00:28:53.080> be<00:28:53.240> 2<00:28:53.360> weeks<00:28:53.560> before<00:28:53.800> death.

00:28:54.880 --> 00:29:02.200
Whereas<00:28:55.600> I<00:28:55.720> had<00:28:55.840> a<00:28:55.920> positive<00:28:56.480> maybe<00:28:56.720> I<00:28:56.760> have<00:28:56.920> a<00:28:56.960> little<00:28:57.120> bit<00:28:57.280> less<00:28:57.480> money<00:28:57.720> or<00:28:57.800> a<00:28:57.840> little<00:28:58.000> bit<00:28:58.120> less<00:28:58.320> power,<00:28:59.160> or<00:28:59.240> maybe<00:28:59.520> I<00:28:59.560> have<00:28:59.720> more<00:28:59.960> money<00:29:00.240> and<00:29:00.360> more<00:29:00.600> power,<00:29:01.160> but<00:29:01.360> because

00:29:02.200 --> 00:29:10.800
I<00:29:02.520> have<00:29:02.840> a<00:29:02.960> positive<00:29:03.600> legacy<00:29:04.080> and<00:29:04.320> people<00:29:04.760> remember<00:29:05.200> me<00:29:05.400> in<00:29:05.560> that<00:29:05.840> creating<00:29:06.320> that<00:29:06.520> positive<00:29:06.920> legacy,<00:29:07.880> that's<00:29:08.120> what<00:29:08.280> I<00:29:08.360> wish<00:29:09.000> like<00:29:09.240> everyone<00:29:09.720> would<00:29:09.920> kind<00:29:10.160> of<00:29:10.360> aspire

00:29:10.800 --> 00:29:13.280
to.<00:29:12.000> Oh<00:29:12.280> my<00:29:12.440> gosh.

00:29:13.280 --> 00:29:16.730
Uh,<00:29:14.000> so<00:29:14.280> this<00:29:14.440> conversation<00:29:15.000> couldn't<00:29:15.280> be<00:29:15.400> coming<00:29:15.640> at<00:29:15.720> a<00:29:15.760> better<00:29:16.000> time.

00:29:16.730 --> 00:29:20.960
[laughter]<00:29:17.000> This<00:29:17.160> is<00:29:17.280> like,<00:29:18.080> uh,<00:29:18.120> I<00:29:18.200> would<00:29:18.360> love<00:29:18.520> to<00:29:18.600> talk<00:29:18.760> to<00:29:18.840> you<00:29:18.880> forever,<00:29:19.120> but<00:29:19.320> I,<00:29:19.360> but<00:29:19.480> I<00:29:19.520> want<00:29:19.640> to<00:29:19.680> be<00:29:19.720> respectful<00:29:20.160> of<00:29:20.240> your<00:29:20.320> time.

00:29:20.960 --> 00:29:23.760
We<00:29:21.160> end<00:29:21.360> every<00:29:21.640> interview<00:29:22.160> with<00:29:22.360> the<00:29:22.440> same<00:29:22.720> question.

00:29:23.760 --> 00:29:30.400
And<00:29:24.000> that<00:29:24.200> is<00:29:24.360> at<00:29:24.520> ceo.com<00:29:25.440> we<00:29:25.560> believe<00:29:25.840> the<00:29:25.960> chances<00:29:26.400> one<00:29:26.640> gives<00:29:27.760> is<00:29:28.040> just<00:29:28.280> important<00:29:28.640> as<00:29:28.760> the<00:29:28.840> chances<00:29:29.240> one<00:29:29.440> takes.

00:29:30.400 --> 00:29:33.840
When<00:29:30.640> you<00:29:30.800> hear<00:29:31.040> that,<00:29:31.280> who<00:29:31.440> gave<00:29:31.680> you<00:29:31.800> a<00:29:31.840> chance<00:29:32.160> to<00:29:32.240> get<00:29:32.400> you<00:29:32.520> to<00:29:32.600> where<00:29:32.800> you<00:29:32.960> are<00:29:33.080> today?

00:29:33.840 --> 00:29:40.960
Yeah.<00:29:34.760> Uh,<00:29:35.600> so<00:29:36.080> I<00:29:36.240> was<00:29:36.560> this<00:29:36.800> like<00:29:37.120> I<00:29:37.200> got<00:29:37.400> hired<00:29:38.680> my<00:29:38.840> first<00:29:39.040> job<00:29:39.280> out<00:29:39.360> of<00:29:39.480> undergrad.

00:29:40.960 --> 00:29:46.680
I<00:29:41.120> got<00:29:41.360> hired<00:29:41.600> into<00:29:41.840> IBM's<00:29:42.240> corporate<00:29:42.560> development<00:29:42.960> group<00:29:43.520> and<00:29:43.640> they<00:29:43.760> hired<00:29:44.000> me<00:29:44.080> to<00:29:44.160> be<00:29:44.280> a<00:29:44.320> financial<00:29:44.800> analyst.

00:29:46.680 --> 00:29:53.400
And<00:29:47.000> the<00:29:47.120> last<00:29:47.480> thing<00:29:47.720> that<00:29:47.840> I<00:29:47.920> was<00:29:48.040> qualified<00:29:48.480> to<00:29:48.560> be<00:29:48.920> was<00:29:49.080> a<00:29:49.120> financial<00:29:49.600> analyst<00:29:50.040> both<00:29:50.440> in<00:29:50.560> terms<00:29:50.840> of<00:29:51.000> psyche<00:29:51.480> and<00:29:51.760> skill<00:29:52.040> set.

00:29:53.400 --> 00:30:00.520
And<00:29:53.800> I<00:29:53.880> get<00:29:54.160> in<00:29:54.320> there<00:29:54.960> and<00:29:55.160> this<00:29:55.280> guy<00:29:55.520> Bob<00:29:55.840> Pemberton,<00:29:56.320> he<00:29:56.440> was<00:29:56.560> my<00:29:56.680> direct<00:29:56.920> boss,<00:29:57.680> he<00:29:57.920> recognized<00:29:58.640> this<00:29:58.840> very<00:29:59.120> quickly.

00:30:00.520 --> 00:30:04.400
And<00:30:01.160> they<00:30:01.560> threw<00:30:02.040> me<00:30:02.400> 8<00:30:02.560> months<00:30:02.840> in<00:30:02.960> and<00:30:03.040> I'm<00:30:03.080> like<00:30:03.240> 22<00:30:03.560> or<00:30:03.640> 23<00:30:03.960> years<00:30:04.160> old.

00:30:04.400 --> 00:30:10.320
They<00:30:04.520> threw<00:30:04.760> me<00:30:04.880> this<00:30:05.080> tiny<00:30:05.440> little<00:30:06.560> $5<00:30:07.080> million<00:30:07.520> M&A<00:30:07.760> deal<00:30:08.560> to<00:30:08.800> to<00:30:08.960> run.

00:30:10.320 --> 00:30:14.880
And,<00:30:11.360> uh,<00:30:12.080> the<00:30:12.320> $5<00:30:12.680> million<00:30:13.080> M&A<00:30:13.200> deal,<00:30:13.800> I<00:30:13.880> take<00:30:14.080> it<00:30:14.200> over.

00:30:14.880 --> 00:30:18.720
You<00:30:15.040> know,<00:30:15.120> 'cause<00:30:15.240> the<00:30:15.320> guy<00:30:15.440> who<00:30:15.560> was<00:30:15.640> running<00:30:15.880> it<00:30:16.000> had<00:30:16.160> like<00:30:16.720> moved<00:30:16.960> to<00:30:17.040> a<00:30:17.080> different<00:30:17.360> thing<00:30:17.520> or<00:30:17.600> quit<00:30:17.800> or<00:30:17.880> something.

00:30:18.720 --> 00:30:25.840
And<00:30:18.880> it<00:30:18.920> becomes<00:30:19.200> a<00:30:19.240> $30<00:30:19.640> million<00:30:20.120> M&A<00:30:20.360> deal<00:30:20.560> because<00:30:20.840> I<00:30:20.920> reset<00:30:21.360> it<00:30:21.720> and<00:30:22.120> you<00:30:22.200> know,<00:30:22.480> moved<00:30:22.760> it<00:30:22.880> to<00:30:23.200> the<00:30:23.320> new<00:30:23.560> purchase<00:30:23.840> price<00:30:24.040> of<00:30:24.120> $30<00:30:24.400> million<00:30:24.920> that<00:30:25.400> someone<00:30:25.600> was<00:30:25.720> going

00:30:25.840 --> 00:30:30.000
to<00:30:25.880> pay<00:30:26.000> us<00:30:26.120> for<00:30:26.200> this<00:30:26.320> thing.<00:30:27.400> And<00:30:27.560> then<00:30:28.200> I'm<00:30:28.400> thinking<00:30:28.720> they're<00:30:28.840> going<00:30:28.960> to<00:30:29.040> take<00:30:29.160> it<00:30:29.240> away<00:30:29.400> from<00:30:29.560> me,<00:30:29.720> right?

00:30:30.000 --> 00:30:36.800
Cuz<00:30:30.120> it's<00:30:30.240> like<00:30:30.400> $30<00:30:30.760> million.<00:30:32.480> And<00:30:33.080> Bob<00:30:33.640> and<00:30:33.760> then<00:30:33.920> Dave<00:30:34.160> Johnson,<00:30:34.560> the<00:30:34.640> guy<00:30:34.800> who<00:30:34.920> was<00:30:35.040> running<00:30:35.240> Corp<00:30:35.440> Dev<00:30:35.640> at<00:30:35.720> the<00:30:35.800> time,<00:30:36.000> were<00:30:36.080> like,<00:30:36.200> "Nope.

00:30:36.800 --> 00:30:39.640
You<00:30:37.000> negotiate<00:30:37.560> it<00:30:37.720> end<00:30:37.840> to<00:30:37.920> end.<00:30:38.120> Just<00:30:38.280> get<00:30:38.440> it<00:30:38.520> done."

00:30:39.640 --> 00:30:41.760
And<00:30:39.840> I<00:30:39.880> was<00:30:39.960> like,<00:30:40.120> "Really?<00:30:40.600> I'm<00:30:40.760> like<00:30:40.960> 23<00:30:41.360> years<00:30:41.600> old."

00:30:41.760 --> 00:30:44.120
And<00:30:41.880> they're<00:30:42.000> like,<00:30:42.640> "Just<00:30:42.880> go<00:30:43.040> do<00:30:43.280> it."

00:30:44.120 --> 00:30:53.400
And<00:30:44.520> so,<00:30:44.680> those<00:30:45.120> two<00:30:45.360> guys,<00:30:45.800> like,<00:30:46.720> they<00:30:46.960> let<00:30:47.200> me<00:30:47.320> do<00:30:47.480> something<00:30:47.760> they<00:30:47.840> should<00:30:48.000> not<00:30:48.120> have<00:30:48.240> let<00:30:48.360> me<00:30:48.400> do<00:30:49.080> in<00:30:49.560> IBM,<00:30:50.520> of<00:30:50.800> all<00:30:50.960> places,<00:30:51.400> right,<00:30:51.640> in<00:30:51.720> the<00:30:51.840> early<00:30:52.080> 2000s.

00:30:53.400 --> 00:30:57.640
Uh,<00:30:53.920> but,<00:30:54.120> it<00:30:54.240> also<00:30:54.480> showed<00:30:54.840> me<00:30:55.160> like<00:30:55.480> what<00:30:55.760> I<00:30:55.880> could<00:30:56.120> possibly<00:30:56.560> do.

00:30:57.640 --> 00:31:04.560
Uh,<00:30:58.080> so,<00:30:58.640> they're<00:30:59.040> probably<00:30:59.560> two<00:30:59.800> people<00:31:00.080> who<00:31:00.240> I<00:31:00.320> think<00:31:00.640> of<00:31:00.800> as<00:31:01.040> like<00:31:01.480> they<00:31:01.800> really<00:31:02.160> helped,<00:31:02.600> you<00:31:02.680> know,<00:31:02.800> kind<00:31:02.960> of<00:31:03.040> create<00:31:03.200> a<00:31:03.240> trajectory<00:31:03.720> for<00:31:03.840> me.

00:31:04.560 --> 00:31:07.360
That's<00:31:04.760> incredible.<00:31:05.400> Seth,<00:31:05.760> thank<00:31:06.000> you<00:31:06.120> so<00:31:06.280> much<00:31:06.520> for<00:31:06.640> coming<00:31:06.840> on<00:31:06.920> the<00:31:07.000> show.
