# Chia-Lin Simmons left Google for the "I've fallen" business

In 2013, Chia-Lin Simmons was eating ramen in a crowded Oakland restaurant with her mother-in-law, who was wearing a medical alert pendant. Her mother-in-law sat down a little too fast. The device decided she had fallen and announced it to the room, by name.

"She was so embarrassed," Simmons said on the CEO.com Podcast. "And at the back of my mind, I felt it in the back there, I was thinking, 'Gosh, somebody's gotta fix this thing.'"

Then she forgot about it. She built AI and machine learning products. She went to Google. Eight years later, she became [CEO of LogicMark](https://www.logicmark.com/leadership/?ref=ceo.com), which makes the devices that most Americans know only as the "I've fallen and I can't get up" business.

Her first job was at Wired, in her early 20s, when nobody knew what the internet was for. She has said she may or may not have slept at the office, done her laundry there, and eaten all three meals a day at her desk. In her defense, the company had a washing machine, and she did not. She took the job over an offer from Disney, which her parents could not understand. She remembers her bosses were two or three years older than she was and didn't know what they were doing either, which meant she was allowed to try things.

What followed was a long run through consumer technology. Business development at Time Warner and AOL. VP of strategic alliances at Audible, where she built the company's first mobile app in 2005, when a smartphone usually meant a BlackBerry. Marketing and content for Harman International and Samsung's connected car business. Head of global partner marketing for Google Play Music and the Google Play Store. Then co-founder and CEO of LookyLoo, an AI social commerce company.

The Audible job came out of one of the shortest interviews of her career. Don Katz, the founder, asked whether she knew anything about mobile phones. She said she owned one and knew nothing else. He asked if she thought she could learn.

"He's like, 'You seem pretty smart. So, tag, you're it. You're the director of mobile.'"

Underneath the operating career is an academic record that does not usually show up in this industry. She graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from UC San Diego, earned an MBA from Cornell as a Park Leadership Fellow on a full-ride scholarship, built the Big Red Incubator there as a managing partner, took a JD from George Mason, and is a licensed New York attorney.

LogicMark had not shipped a meaningfully new product in years when she arrived in 2021\. Her answer was to ship a hardware device, a platform, a mobile app, and an AI cloud backend at the same time.

"You sleep very little," she said. "That's one."

The company had been hardware only and now needed software people, so she went and got them. Her VP of engineering, she says, had built connected car technology with her for Porsche, Honda and Subaru, scaled across more than 50 countries. Her description of the result is the best line in the interview. "We're operating basically like a startup with the ticker symbol."

The business those products serve is less glamorous than the technology and more interesting than it sounds. LogicMark's largest customer is the federal government. The majority of the company's revenue comes from the Veterans Health Administration, which buys in bulk and mostly prepays, [according to the company's most recent quarterly report](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1566826/000121390026091543/ea0299619-10q%5Flogic.htm?ref=ceo.com), and distributes the devices to veterans through [VA hospitals, outpatient clinics and community living centers](https://www.logicmark.com/veterans-affairs/?ref=ceo.com). A GSA schedule contract awarded in July 2021 and running through July 2031 lets federal, state and local governments buy directly. The affordability argument Simmons makes is not abstract. Two of the four products in the line, Freedom Alert and Guardian Alert 911 Plus, carry no monthly fee. The tradeoff is visible in the filings: subscription revenue was about $509,000 of the $6.56 million the company took in over the first half of the year, so LogicMark still runs mostly on devices sold outright rather than on recurring monitoring fees.

She is not worried about Skynet. She is a Terminator fan and says so. What interests her is narrower. Today, machine learning reduces false positives, so fewer people get humiliated in ramen restaurants. That is reactive, and reactive is not the point.

"What we're really trying to do is use the data that we're gathering and helping our users with and utilizing that to actually prevent the fall in the first place," she said. "Because typically, when you have a fall, it just escalates."

The numbers she cites explain why. By 2040, she says, one in four Americans will be 65 or older, and one in four people over 65 will fall. If the patterns in the data can get a walker in front of someone before the fall, the cascade never starts.

Her concern about AI risk is about who builds the thing and what they feed it. She points to hiring algorithms that learn to prefer one kind of candidate. "The data is junk going in, then you're going to get junk results coming out. And so, that is what people fear, and I can empathize with that completely."

Simmons practices something she calls one kindness a day, which she describes as the love child of Malcolm Gladwell and Buddhism. The Gladwell part is the 10,000 hours. Kindness is a muscle, and you have to work it daily, or it does not develop. At LogicMark, this shows up as a rule about gift certificates. Employees can thank each other with a small Amazon card, but only across departments, and only for work that fell outside the recipient's job description.

Her definition of culture is not the Thursday cocktail hour she remembers from Wired and Google. It is what happens on the worst day. She describes a leader somewhere insisting an employee join a call while a family member was in the ICU.

"Who wants to be at a company and a culture that basically says, 'Your family is not important to us'?"

She tells her team not to check email at night. If the warehouse is on fire, she will call. "I'm not a doctor. You're not a doctor. There's no beeper here that we should be traveling to unless somebody is dying without us."

The empathy runs toward herself too, which she argues is where most type A executives fail. Her instruction is to say the words out loud. I screwed this up. Here is how. Here is what it cost us. Here is how we avoid it next time. The point is not confession. It is that nobody below her will admit a two-week delay until she has admitted one first.

Asked when her view of leadership changed, she said it was when she let go of a friend of decades from a leadership team. "You typically like everybody you work with, but not everybody works well together." She is reading Richard Thaler's Nudge for a second time, and Simon Sinek's Leaders Eat Last for the first.

The turnaround shows up in the numbers. Revenue rose 21% year over year to $6.56 million for the first half of 2026, gross margin improved to 70.2% from 65.6%, and cash used in operations fell to $1.56 million from $2.66 million, according to the quarterly report. The company still lost $3.0 million over the period. In [announcing first quarter results in May](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1566826/000121390026057728/ea029103801ex99-1.htm?ref=ceo.com), LogicMark said revenue had risen year over year in seven of the last eight quarters, and described a pipeline built on more than 45 issued or pending patents, including a wearable watch and a connected-home hub with fall detection that requires no wearable at all.

The public markets did not reward any of it. LogicMark left the Nasdaq Capital Market in June 2025 and has traded on OTC since. A 1-for-750 reverse split followed in October. As of August 19, 2026, 899,759 shares were outstanding.

So the board decided to leave. On July 31, LogicMark signed a merger agreement with Langham Project, LLC. Shareholders vote September 25\. If they approve, every common share converts to $1.31 in cash, roughly a 156% premium over the $0.5119 close the day before the announcement, and LogicMark becomes private. The [definitive proxy](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1566826/000121390026092906/ea0302962-defm14a%5Flogicmark.htm?ref=ceo.com) says the board and its special committee unanimously approved that Roth Capital Partners found the price fair to unaffiliated holders, and that the buyer group is led by Nicholas Kovacevich, managing member of Positano Partners, the sole manager of the acquiring entity. The current directors and officers stay in place at the surviving company. Simmons keeps the job.

There is arithmetic in that filing worth doing. At $1.31 a share against 899,759 shares, the common equity in this deal is about $1.18 million. At the end of June, the company held $3.5 million in cash and $3.1 million in government securities, with working capital of $6.9 million. The proxy states that the board and the special committee did not consider liquidation value or net book value, on the reasoning that liquidation analyses are speculative and that the company's value comes from operating cash flow rather than assets. Shareholders may find that reasoning persuasive. They should at least know it was the reasoning.

The proxy also explains how it got here, and the explanation is not really about valuation. After the delisting, the board concluded that raising money on the OTC would be close to impossible. Management approached eight outside parties between July 2025 and March 2026\. Two showed real interest. One offered to buy the company outright, and the board went with it partly because doing so avoided paying a placement agent. Seven quarters of growth out of eight did not change any of that.

Every CEO.com Podcast episode ends with the same question, on the premise that the chances one gives are just as important as the chances one takes. Simmons named three people. Bill Holtzman, at a pre-IPO company early in her career, when she was chasing salary because her parents had told her to support herself, and who told her that taking the startup job was an investment in herself. Don Katz, who made a young MBA the director of mobile on a hunch. And Robert Acker, who is no longer living, and who taught her that empathy and high standards are not in tension.

"Here was an example of a leader who quite honestly was a male leader that one would expect to be living and breathing at a tech industry that basically showed work-life balance," she said. "And he led by example, and he told us it was okay to do that."

Tell<00:00:17.395> us<00:00:17.638> like<00:00:17.961> about<00:00:18.283> the<00:00:18.429> company,<00:00:19.010> how<00:00:19.236> you<00:00:19.397> got<00:00:19.656> to<00:00:19.720> that<00:00:19.898> position,<00:00:20.705> your<00:00:21.012> journey<00:00:21.593> to<00:00:21.690> becoming<00:00:22.239> the<00:00:22.320> CEO<00:00:23.192> of<00:00:24.031> such<00:00:24.193> an<00:00:24.257> impressive<00:00:25.307> public<00:00:25.533> company.

00:00:27.085 --> 00:00:29.718
Well,<00:00:27.246> thank<00:00:27.470> you<00:00:27.567> so<00:00:27.727> much<00:00:27.968> for<00:00:28.129> the<00:00:28.193> opportunity<00:00:28.690> to<00:00:28.835> chat<00:00:29.076> with<00:00:29.236> you<00:00:29.397> today.

00:00:31.163 --> 00:00:35.545
I<00:00:31.740> really<00:00:31.981> came<00:00:32.286> about<00:00:32.543> this<00:00:32.704> opportunity<00:00:33.587> in<00:00:33.731> a<00:00:33.747> somewhat<00:00:34.791> roundabout<00:00:35.336> way.

00:00:36.235 --> 00:00:47.408
This<00:00:36.556> does<00:00:36.717> not<00:00:36.877> seem<00:00:37.118> like<00:00:37.343> a<00:00:37.359> natural<00:00:37.857> sort<00:00:38.097> of<00:00:38.226> company<00:00:38.708> for<00:00:39.623> somebody<00:00:39.992> with<00:00:40.088> a<00:00:40.233> background<00:00:40.634> of<00:00:40.730> working<00:00:41.115> in<00:00:41.356> AI,<00:00:41.918> ML,<00:00:42.560> and<00:00:43.379> being<00:00:43.684> at<00:00:43.844> Audible<00:00:44.262> or<00:00:44.647> Google<00:00:45.707> to<00:00:45.931> end<00:00:46.092> up<00:00:46.252> at<00:00:46.349> a<00:00:46.365> medical<00:00:46.734> alerts<00:00:47.071> company.

00:00:47.489 --> 00:00:53.043
So,<00:00:48.660> and<00:00:49.559> medical<00:00:49.864> alerts<00:00:50.266> is<00:00:50.362> what<00:00:50.507> people<00:00:50.779> know<00:00:50.988> as<00:00:51.406> the<00:00:51.630> I<00:00:51.727> fall<00:00:51.967> and<00:00:52.112> I<00:00:52.192> can't<00:00:52.369> get<00:00:52.529> up<00:00:52.690> business.

00:00:53.332 --> 00:01:10.352
And<00:00:53.428> so<00:00:54.922> not<00:00:55.178> quite<00:00:55.516> sort<00:00:55.805> of<00:00:55.901> where<00:00:56.302> one<00:00:56.543> would<00:00:56.720> sort<00:00:56.929> of<00:00:57.025> expect<00:00:57.442> to<00:00:57.587> land,<00:00:58.871> but<00:00:59.032> landed<00:00:59.369> here<00:00:59.755> because,<00:01:00.718> you<00:01:00.798> know,<00:01:00.959> back<00:01:01.424> in<00:01:01.681> 2013,<00:01:03.126> my<00:01:03.287> mother-in-law<00:01:04.636> had<00:01:04.732> been<00:01:04.957> wearing<00:01:05.134> one<00:01:05.310> of<00:01:05.439> these<00:01:05.647> devices<00:01:06.563> and<00:01:06.803> she<00:01:06.964> had<00:01:07.060> stepped<00:01:07.285> down<00:01:07.446> too<00:01:07.558> quickly<00:01:08.489> and<00:01:08.746> her<00:01:08.987> device<00:01:09.469> immediately<00:01:09.950> went<00:01:10.111> off.

00:01:10.898 --> 00:01:19.679
And<00:01:11.299> in<00:01:11.476> the<00:01:11.508> middle<00:01:11.717> of<00:01:11.877> a<00:01:12.423> busy<00:01:12.680> restaurant<00:01:13.098> in<00:01:13.306> Oakland<00:01:13.724> for<00:01:13.949> ramen,<00:01:14.591> it<00:01:14.703> screams,<00:01:15.651> "Mrs.<00:01:15.956> Becker,<00:01:16.197> are<00:01:16.437> you<00:01:16.518> okay?"<00:01:17.834> She<00:01:18.139> was<00:01:18.782> So<00:01:19.102> embarrassed.

00:01:20.048 --> 00:01:24.841
And<00:01:20.465> at<00:01:20.545> the<00:01:20.705> back<00:01:20.962> of<00:01:21.010> my<00:01:21.106> mind,<00:01:21.411> I<00:01:21.427> filed<00:01:21.843> it<00:01:21.972> in<00:01:22.052> the<00:01:22.148> back<00:01:22.452> there<00:01:22.629> thinking,<00:01:23.110> gosh,<00:01:23.430> somebody's<00:01:23.831> got<00:01:23.991> to<00:01:24.072> fix<00:01:24.392> this<00:01:24.633> thing.

00:01:25.338 --> 00:01:30.115
And<00:01:25.418> then<00:01:25.594> just<00:01:25.755> didn't<00:01:25.979> think<00:01:26.091> about<00:01:26.316> it<00:01:26.396> again,<00:01:26.797> worked<00:01:27.101> on<00:01:27.197> some<00:01:27.422> AI/ML<00:01:28.319> products,<00:01:28.945> you<00:01:28.977> know,<00:01:29.185> went<00:01:29.361> to<00:01:29.442> work<00:01:29.602> for<00:01:29.746> Google.

00:01:31.365 --> 00:01:41.753
And<00:01:31.509> then<00:01:31.830> when<00:01:31.926> this<00:01:32.151> opportunity<00:01:32.712> came<00:01:32.984> up,<00:01:33.770> you<00:01:33.834> know,<00:01:34.090> it<00:01:34.171> was<00:01:34.347> such<00:01:34.667> an<00:01:34.796> opportunity<00:01:35.613> to<00:01:36.078> try<00:01:36.415> to<00:01:36.559> change<00:01:37.521> this<00:01:37.681> particular<00:01:38.034> industry,<00:01:38.499> which<00:01:38.723> has<00:01:38.899> not<00:01:39.140> seen<00:01:39.460> a<00:01:39.541> lot<00:01:39.717> of<00:01:39.861> innovation<00:01:40.422> in<00:01:40.502> the<00:01:40.583> past<00:01:41.063> 2<00:01:41.224> decades.

00:01:42.410 --> 00:01:49.207
And<00:01:42.602> certainly<00:01:42.987> as<00:01:43.083> the<00:01:43.228> world<00:01:43.452> has<00:01:43.628> moved<00:01:43.789> on<00:01:43.949> in<00:01:44.029> IoT,<00:01:45.792> you<00:01:45.873> know,<00:01:46.353> the<00:01:46.434> world<00:01:46.674> has<00:01:46.770> done<00:01:47.139> more<00:01:47.251> subscription<00:01:47.940> work,<00:01:48.501> all<00:01:48.582> of<00:01:48.662> those<00:01:48.902> things.

00:01:49.864 --> 00:01:51.825
This<00:01:50.024> was<00:01:50.072> certainly<00:01:50.361> an<00:01:50.441> industry<00:01:50.746> that<00:01:50.859> hasn't<00:01:51.213> evolved<00:01:51.487> very<00:01:51.648> much.

00:01:51.890 --> 00:01:57.785
And<00:01:52.035> so<00:01:52.212> I<00:01:52.276> was<00:01:52.518> grateful<00:01:53.017> for<00:01:53.162> the<00:01:53.243> opportunity<00:01:53.903> to<00:01:54.000> sort<00:01:54.289> of<00:01:54.708> do<00:01:54.853> this<00:01:55.030> pivot<00:01:55.417> for<00:01:55.514> the<00:01:55.659> company<00:01:56.158> and,<00:01:56.480> um,<00:01:56.625> I'm<00:01:56.963> excited<00:01:57.366> to<00:01:57.446> be<00:01:57.672> here.

00:01:58.268 --> 00:02:01.327
So<00:01:59.121> how's<00:01:59.315> it<00:01:59.443> going<00:01:59.927> and,<00:02:00.249> uh,<00:02:00.571> what's<00:02:00.893> next?

00:02:02.825 --> 00:02:03.275
My<00:02:02.986> goodness.

00:02:03.549 --> 00:02:04.918
Um,<00:02:03.968> it's<00:02:04.129> been<00:02:04.274> going<00:02:04.515> great.

00:02:05.159 --> 00:02:07.638
Um,<00:02:05.497> you<00:02:05.578> know,<00:02:05.674> it's<00:02:05.900> been<00:02:06.045> a<00:02:06.125> hard<00:02:06.544> road<00:02:07.011> for<00:02:07.107> 2<00:02:07.333> years.

00:02:07.816 --> 00:02:14.635
Um,<00:02:07.993> this—<00:02:08.315> when<00:02:08.460> I<00:02:08.556> inherited<00:02:09.039> the<00:02:09.120> company<00:02:09.458> in<00:02:09.539> 2015<00:02:10.332> as<00:02:10.477> a<00:02:10.510> CEO,<00:02:11.610> we<00:02:11.707> really<00:02:12.014> hadn't<00:02:12.515> developed<00:02:12.985> any<00:02:13.098> new<00:02:13.308> products<00:02:13.680> since<00:02:13.891> 2015.

00:02:15.266 --> 00:02:20.413
And<00:02:15.346> so<00:02:15.508> I'm<00:02:15.670> very<00:02:15.896> excited<00:02:16.382> that<00:02:16.867> literally<00:02:17.514> we<00:02:17.676> are,<00:02:18.404> um,<00:02:18.566> shipping<00:02:19.065> our<00:02:19.115> Freedom<00:02:19.831> Alert<00:02:19.931> Plus<00:02:20.080> product.

00:02:20.496 --> 00:02:27.686
And<00:02:20.546> in<00:02:22.550> In<00:02:22.646> essence,<00:02:23.063> it's<00:02:23.288> actually<00:02:23.480> not<00:02:23.705> just<00:02:23.850> shipping<00:02:24.187> one<00:02:24.411> product,<00:02:24.813> but<00:02:24.877> we're<00:02:24.989> actually<00:02:25.294> shipping<00:02:25.631> 3<00:02:25.872> products<00:02:26.273> concurrently<00:02:26.979> at<00:02:27.060> the<00:02:27.140> same<00:02:27.397> time.

00:02:28.183 --> 00:02:58.237
So<00:02:28.681> in<00:02:28.761> a<00:02:28.905> world<00:02:29.162> that<00:02:29.403> we<00:02:29.885> sort<00:02:30.109> of<00:02:30.206> live<00:02:30.511> in<00:02:30.767> where<00:02:30.992> most<00:02:31.249> of<00:02:31.329> these<00:02:31.441> devices<00:02:32.116> are<00:02:32.148> sort<00:02:32.372> of<00:02:32.453> picked<00:02:33.480> up<00:02:33.640> with<00:02:33.817> manufacturers,<00:02:35.101> you<00:02:35.181> know,<00:02:35.502> that's<00:02:35.823> already<00:02:36.128> pre-developed,<00:02:37.669> we<00:02:37.974> actually<00:02:38.311> had<00:02:39.338> for<00:02:39.451> this<00:02:39.675> launch<00:02:40.558> not<00:02:40.799> just<00:02:40.943> develop<00:02:41.280> a<00:02:41.296> new<00:02:41.441> hardware<00:02:41.842> product<00:02:42.308> with<00:02:43.046> a<00:02:43.126> screen,<00:02:44.555> a<00:02:44.651> product<00:02:44.972> that<00:02:45.598> acts<00:02:45.839> kind<00:02:46.015> of<00:02:46.095> closer<00:02:46.497> to<00:02:46.641> an<00:02:47.139> iWatch<00:02:47.524> or<00:02:48.086> iPhone<00:02:48.423> where<00:02:48.583> it<00:02:49.049> has<00:02:49.306> automatic<00:02:49.771> updates<00:02:50.108> so<00:02:50.172> you<00:02:50.269> could<00:02:50.429> get<00:02:50.590> the<00:02:50.670> most<00:02:51.312> up-to-date<00:02:51.712> fall<00:02:51.953> detection<00:02:52.370> technology,<00:02:53.059> for<00:02:53.155> example,<00:02:54.117> but<00:02:54.213> we<00:02:54.422> also<00:02:54.678> developed<00:02:55.239> the<00:02:55.960> platform<00:02:56.441> infrastructure<00:02:57.323> to<00:02:57.483> make<00:02:57.724> that<00:02:57.948> happen.

00:02:59.311 --> 00:03:08.688
And<00:02:59.968> an<00:03:00.192> app<00:03:00.930> that<00:03:01.090> goes<00:03:01.395> on<00:03:01.956> iOS<00:03:02.356> and<00:03:02.773> Android<00:03:03.318> to<00:03:03.495> actually<00:03:03.959> allow<00:03:04.521> you<00:03:04.681> to<00:03:04.841> contact<00:03:05.178> your<00:03:05.258> caretakers<00:03:06.059> and<00:03:06.140> for<00:03:06.284> your<00:03:06.380> caretakers<00:03:06.925> to<00:03:07.005> help,<00:03:07.743> you<00:03:07.839> know,<00:03:08.127> take<00:03:08.336> care<00:03:08.448> of<00:03:08.608> you.

00:03:09.971 --> 00:03:16.655
And<00:03:10.067> then<00:03:10.452> also,<00:03:10.868> and<00:03:10.965> then<00:03:11.125> a<00:03:11.349> cloud<00:03:11.670> backend<00:03:12.295> that<00:03:12.455> actually<00:03:12.712> has<00:03:13.097> AI<00:03:13.433> and<00:03:13.594> ML<00:03:13.994> implemented<00:03:14.475> so<00:03:14.652> that<00:03:14.796> we<00:03:14.940> can<00:03:15.100> actually<00:03:15.517> do<00:03:15.742> better<00:03:15.918> fall<00:03:16.223> detection.

00:03:16.719 --> 00:03:25.958
Because<00:03:16.960> again,<00:03:17.665> I<00:03:17.681> go<00:03:17.842> back<00:03:18.082> to<00:03:18.178> my<00:03:18.323> sort<00:03:18.499> of<00:03:18.579> experience<00:03:19.124> with<00:03:19.268> this<00:03:19.445> particular<00:03:19.765> type<00:03:20.022> of<00:03:20.086> product<00:03:20.567> where<00:03:20.663> my<00:03:20.807> mother-in-law<00:03:21.288> sat<00:03:21.529> down<00:03:21.705> too<00:03:21.849> quickly<00:03:22.170> and<00:03:22.250> tilted<00:03:22.635> a<00:03:22.651> little<00:03:22.811> bit<00:03:23.035> and<00:03:23.517> Therefore,<00:03:24.480> you<00:03:24.577> know,<00:03:24.834> it<00:03:24.898> was<00:03:24.994> screaming<00:03:25.444> out<00:03:25.620> at<00:03:25.765> her.

00:03:26.327 --> 00:03:31.610
And<00:03:26.423> so<00:03:27.611> we<00:03:27.772> are<00:03:27.852> developing<00:03:28.270> a<00:03:28.334> product<00:03:28.671> that<00:03:28.896> actually<00:03:29.635> is<00:03:29.795> better<00:03:30.020> at<00:03:30.116> detecting<00:03:30.598> false<00:03:30.999> positives.

00:03:32.107 --> 00:03:36.860
And<00:03:32.204> so,<00:03:32.509> and<00:03:32.589> it<00:03:32.621> consistently<00:03:33.392> learns<00:03:33.729> using<00:03:34.050> AI<00:03:34.435> and<00:03:34.548> ML<00:03:35.351> so<00:03:35.575> that<00:03:35.736> we<00:03:35.881> can<00:03:36.041> actually<00:03:36.362> do<00:03:36.523> better.

00:03:37.021 --> 00:03:45.354
And<00:03:37.165> so<00:03:37.342> that<00:03:37.502> not<00:03:38.064> more<00:03:38.225> people<00:03:38.610> will<00:03:38.707> be<00:03:38.803> embarrassed<00:03:39.349> and<00:03:39.493> they're<00:03:39.590> actually<00:03:40.071> able<00:03:40.296> to<00:03:40.392> use<00:03:40.553> file<00:03:40.714> detection<00:03:41.195> in<00:03:41.340> a<00:03:41.356> way<00:03:41.597> that<00:03:41.838> will<00:03:43.186> continuously<00:03:43.764> get<00:03:43.925> better<00:03:44.631> the<00:03:44.792> more<00:03:44.888> they<00:03:45.033> use<00:03:45.290> it.

00:03:45.932 --> 00:03:48.357
So,<00:03:46.655> so<00:03:46.815> it's<00:03:46.960> quite<00:03:47.136> a<00:03:47.217> lot<00:03:47.618> that<00:03:47.779> we're<00:03:47.891> developing.

00:03:48.726 --> 00:03:50.106
And<00:03:48.886> that's<00:03:49.079> a<00:03:49.207> challenge,<00:03:49.849> right?

00:03:50.186 --> 00:03:55.239
To<00:03:51.132> build<00:03:51.373> both<00:03:51.614> a<00:03:51.694> hardware<00:03:52.191> product,<00:03:53.058> a<00:03:53.314> software<00:03:53.876> product,<00:03:54.341> an<00:03:54.501> AI<00:03:54.838> product.

00:03:55.721 --> 00:04:03.229
What<00:03:55.865> has<00:03:56.042> that<00:03:56.282> been<00:03:56.587> like<00:03:57.550> as<00:03:57.710> you've<00:03:58.432> been<00:03:58.593> working<00:03:58.849> with<00:03:59.010> the<00:03:59.170> team<00:03:59.587> and<00:03:59.716> figuring<00:03:59.972> out—<00:04:00.036> I<00:04:00.052> mean,<00:04:00.277> those<00:04:00.454> are<00:04:00.598> like<00:04:00.774> 3<00:04:01.095> pretty<00:04:01.336> distinctly<00:04:02.459> different<00:04:03.085> things.

00:04:03.341 --> 00:04:07.144
Like<00:04:03.502> you<00:04:03.582> said,<00:04:03.742> they're<00:04:03.823> kind<00:04:03.999> of<00:04:04.063> like<00:04:04.304> 3<00:04:04.545> distinct<00:04:05.106> products<00:04:06.293> all<00:04:06.470> in<00:04:06.630> one<00:04:06.951> here.

00:04:07.898 --> 00:04:11.347
Hardware<00:04:08.299> is<00:04:08.475> no<00:04:09.053> simple<00:04:09.422> task<00:04:10.304> and<00:04:10.401> neither<00:04:10.721> are<00:04:10.802> the<00:04:10.946> other<00:04:11.122> 2.

00:04:11.443 --> 00:04:12.454
How<00:04:11.684> has<00:04:12.005> that<00:04:12.229> been?

00:04:12.935 --> 00:04:15.037
How<00:04:13.914> has<00:04:14.155> that<00:04:14.315> worked<00:04:14.716> for<00:04:14.812> you?

00:04:15.278 --> 00:04:22.642
And<00:04:15.438> what<00:04:15.775> would<00:04:15.936> you<00:04:16.080> have<00:04:16.401> us<00:04:16.641> think<00:04:16.882> as<00:04:17.043> we're<00:04:17.283> like,<00:04:18.860> if<00:04:18.957> there's,<00:04:19.264> if<00:04:19.361> there's<00:04:19.523> people<00:04:19.830> watching<00:04:20.250> or<00:04:20.315> wondering<00:04:20.654> like,<00:04:20.897> hey,<00:04:21.123> how<00:04:21.220> do<00:04:21.285> you<00:04:21.381> do<00:04:21.608> all,<00:04:22.012> all<00:04:22.044> three<00:04:22.287> of<00:04:22.367> those?

00:04:24.363 --> 00:04:25.330
You<00:04:24.459> sleep<00:04:24.798> very<00:04:24.991> little.

00:04:25.717 --> 00:04:30.907
And<00:04:25.813> that's<00:04:27.167> what—<00:04:27.747> so<00:04:28.215> we<00:04:28.376> were<00:04:28.618> predominantly<00:04:29.440> a<00:04:29.601> hardware-only<00:04:30.407> company.

00:04:31.052 --> 00:04:40.751
And<00:04:31.149> so<00:04:31.777> we<00:04:31.858> were<00:04:32.019> really<00:04:32.261> bringing<00:04:33.695> experience<00:04:34.419> around<00:04:34.935> software<00:04:35.386> development<00:04:36.127> and<00:04:36.272> SaaS<00:04:36.675> technology<00:04:37.255> development<00:04:38.705> into<00:04:39.011> a<00:04:39.091> company<00:04:39.430> that<00:04:39.591> has<00:04:39.832> never<00:04:40.074> done<00:04:40.235> that<00:04:40.396> before.

00:04:41.487 --> 00:04:44.231
And<00:04:41.763> so<00:04:42.153> that<00:04:42.380> was<00:04:42.543> definitely<00:04:43.225> a<00:04:43.371> brand<00:04:43.647> new<00:04:43.760> change.

00:04:44.345 --> 00:04:52.534
And<00:04:44.442> so<00:04:45.222> really<00:04:45.465> what<00:04:45.563> we<00:04:45.660> saw<00:04:46.115> was<00:04:46.391> a<00:04:46.456> fairly<00:04:46.862> radical<00:04:47.170> change<00:04:47.235> in<00:04:47.300> terms<00:04:47.430> of<00:04:47.511> the<00:04:47.544> type<00:04:47.739> of<00:04:47.788> leaders<00:04:50.546> and<00:04:50.867> team<00:04:51.107> members<00:04:51.364> that<00:04:51.508> we<00:04:51.604> brought<00:04:51.845> into<00:04:52.069> the<00:04:52.165> company.

00:04:53.063 --> 00:04:58.161
So<00:04:53.288> we<00:04:53.432> brought<00:04:53.672> a<00:04:53.833> lot<00:04:53.993> of<00:04:54.089> folks<00:04:54.474> who<00:04:54.554> had<00:04:54.714> actually<00:04:54.971> had<00:04:55.355> very<00:04:55.532> strong<00:04:55.917> experience<00:04:56.558> in<00:04:56.814> connected<00:04:57.215> IoT<00:04:57.680> products.

00:04:58.722 --> 00:05:11.514
And<00:04:58.818> so<00:04:59.058> for<00:04:59.203> example,<00:04:59.603> the<00:04:59.684> VP<00:04:59.924> of<00:05:00.020> engineering<00:05:00.565> and<00:05:00.645> I<00:05:00.822> have<00:05:01.046> worked<00:05:01.206> together<00:05:01.607> and<00:05:01.703> we<00:05:01.848> actually<00:05:02.104> had<00:05:02.345> built<00:05:02.986> a<00:05:03.066> connected<00:05:03.451> car<00:05:03.691> technology<00:05:04.893> for<00:05:06.432> Porsche,<00:05:06.913> Honda,<00:05:07.250> Subaru,<00:05:08.596> tons<00:05:08.917> of<00:05:09.061> other<00:05:09.318> car<00:05:09.542> manufacturers<00:05:10.119> I<00:05:10.199> never,<00:05:10.664> never<00:05:10.985> could<00:05:11.081> remember.

00:05:12.187 --> 00:05:15.345
And<00:05:12.380> that<00:05:12.460> was<00:05:12.556> scaled<00:05:13.005> in<00:05:13.085> 50+<00:05:13.646> countries<00:05:14.047> and<00:05:14.191> millions<00:05:14.528> of<00:05:14.608> cars,<00:05:15.089> right.

00:05:15.409 --> 00:05:23.651
And<00:05:15.553> so<00:05:16.435> this<00:05:17.798> is<00:05:18.279> a<00:05:18.375> very<00:05:18.759> similar<00:05:19.176> infrastructure<00:05:19.657> in<00:05:19.801> terms<00:05:20.074> of<00:05:20.154> the<00:05:20.282> type<00:05:20.459> of<00:05:20.539> thing<00:05:20.779> that<00:05:20.924> we<00:05:20.988> were<00:05:21.100> building<00:05:21.501> in<00:05:21.581> terms<00:05:22.126> AI,<00:05:22.768> analytics,<00:05:23.266> and<00:05:23.346> so<00:05:23.507> forth.

00:05:23.700 --> 00:05:25.578
So<00:05:23.989> it's<00:05:24.149> not<00:05:24.294> our<00:05:24.374> first<00:05:24.631> time<00:05:24.856> at<00:05:24.952> the<00:05:25.032> rodeo.

00:05:26.076 --> 00:05:38.824
And<00:05:26.220> so<00:05:26.558> by<00:05:26.718> bringing<00:05:27.103> people<00:05:27.505> with<00:05:28.404> experience<00:05:29.191> in,<00:05:30.090> you<00:05:30.170> know,<00:05:30.491> doing<00:05:30.796> IoT<00:05:31.278> work,<00:05:31.535> we're<00:05:31.679> bringing<00:05:32.177> adjacency<00:05:33.221> technology<00:05:34.168> into<00:05:34.666> the<00:05:35.147> industry<00:05:35.469> that<00:05:35.629> hasn't<00:05:35.950> had<00:05:36.271> that<00:05:37.138> built<00:05:37.395> into<00:05:37.781> it<00:05:38.198> in<00:05:38.262> the<00:05:38.343> past.

00:05:38.921 --> 00:05:45.889
And<00:05:39.081> so,<00:05:40.606> you<00:05:40.687> know,<00:05:40.831> we're<00:05:41.072> operating<00:05:41.891> basically<00:05:42.292> like<00:05:42.469> a<00:05:42.533> startup<00:05:42.935> with<00:05:43.095> a<00:05:43.175> ticker<00:05:43.432> symbol,<00:05:44.042> and<00:05:44.219> it's<00:05:44.460> been<00:05:44.685> an<00:05:44.765> amazing<00:05:45.263> experience.

00:05:46.242 --> 00:05:48.088
So<00:05:47.270> that's<00:05:47.526> incredible.

00:05:48.153 --> 00:05:50.625
How<00:05:48.377> are<00:05:48.538> you<00:05:48.634> thinking<00:05:49.020> about<00:05:49.341> artificial<00:05:49.839> intelligence?

00:05:51.123 --> 00:06:09.746
Both<00:05:51.508> the<00:05:51.845> opportunities<00:05:52.712> that<00:05:52.793> exist<00:05:53.210> in,<00:05:53.435> in,<00:05:53.611> inside<00:05:54.029> of<00:05:54.157> kind<00:05:54.254> of<00:05:54.318> like<00:05:54.575> this,<00:05:55.602> um,<00:05:55.779> boom<00:05:56.662> in,<00:05:56.967> uh,<00:05:57.448> in<00:05:57.609> this<00:05:57.930> particular<00:05:58.412> space,<00:05:58.893> although<00:05:59.214> AI's<00:05:59.471> been<00:05:59.616> around<00:05:59.857> for<00:05:59.953> a<00:06:00.033> while,<00:06:00.435> as<00:06:00.980> you<00:06:01.077> know<00:06:01.558> better<00:06:01.719> than<00:06:01.880> anyone,<00:06:02.907> but<00:06:03.084> now<00:06:03.324> it's<00:06:03.469> like<00:06:04.288> public<00:06:04.769> and<00:06:05.171> at<00:06:05.251> the<00:06:05.395> forefront<00:06:05.749> of<00:06:05.781> everybody's<00:06:06.214> mind<00:06:06.535> and<00:06:06.616> every<00:06:06.776> company's<00:06:07.161> trying<00:06:07.354> to,<00:06:07.723> uh,<00:06:08.061> integrate<00:06:08.526> AI<00:06:08.783> with,<00:06:09.008> with<00:06:09.168> their<00:06:09.265> products.

00:06:10.613 --> 00:06:13.744
And<00:06:10.693> so<00:06:11.015> I,<00:06:11.127> I'm<00:06:11.287> interested<00:06:11.673> in<00:06:11.753> like<00:06:11.914> how<00:06:12.058> you<00:06:12.154> think<00:06:12.331> about<00:06:12.492> it<00:06:12.540> from<00:06:12.716> an<00:06:12.797> opportunity<00:06:13.278> standpoint.

00:06:13.840 --> 00:06:16.987
And<00:06:13.904> I'm<00:06:14.065> also<00:06:14.242> interested<00:06:14.563> in<00:06:14.643> how<00:06:14.739> you<00:06:14.884> think<00:06:15.060> about<00:06:15.301> it<00:06:15.430> from<00:06:16.313> a<00:06:16.473> downside.

00:06:18.430 --> 00:06:26.685
Standpoint<00:06:19.360> and<00:06:20.081> the<00:06:20.241> way<00:06:20.738> that<00:06:21.043> conversation<00:06:21.604> has<00:06:21.780> been<00:06:21.940> going,<00:06:23.287> you<00:06:23.367> know,<00:06:24.185> publicly<00:06:24.746> around,<00:06:25.291> you<00:06:25.323> know,<00:06:25.467> hey,<00:06:25.611> there<00:06:25.772> could<00:06:25.868> be<00:06:25.964> some<00:06:26.108> dangers<00:06:26.557> here.

00:06:28.096 --> 00:06:38.852
Yeah,<00:06:29.138> it's<00:06:29.459> always<00:06:29.956> a<00:06:30.036> little<00:06:30.276> bit<00:06:30.661> funny<00:06:30.981> to<00:06:31.094> me<00:06:31.639> when<00:06:31.799> we<00:06:31.943> talk<00:06:32.200> about<00:06:32.520> sort<00:06:32.745> of<00:06:32.825> the<00:06:32.921> fear<00:06:33.322> revolved<00:06:33.883> around<00:06:34.123> sort<00:06:34.348> of<00:06:34.508> AI,<00:06:35.005> and<00:06:35.310> I<00:06:35.630> am<00:06:35.887> a<00:06:36.111> huge<00:06:36.512> fan<00:06:37.474> of<00:06:37.650> Terminator,<00:06:38.435> the<00:06:38.468> movie.

00:06:39.397 --> 00:06:42.780
And<00:06:39.558> so<00:06:40.199> I<00:06:40.215> don't<00:06:40.696> think<00:06:40.856> Skynet's<00:06:41.337> going<00:06:41.449> to<00:06:41.561> take<00:06:41.818> over<00:06:42.379> yet.

00:06:43.341 --> 00:06:55.011
For<00:06:43.501> folks<00:06:43.886> who<00:06:44.062> work<00:06:44.238> in<00:06:44.367> this<00:06:44.527> particular<00:06:44.864> category<00:06:45.521> space,<00:06:46.451> you<00:06:46.547> know,<00:06:46.771> that<00:06:46.883> sort<00:06:47.108> of<00:06:47.188> cognizant<00:06:48.054> AI<00:06:48.454> work,<00:06:48.775> it's<00:06:49.080> definitely<00:06:49.817> things<00:06:50.073> that<00:06:50.137> people<00:06:50.458> are<00:06:50.554> looking<00:06:50.939> at,<00:06:51.500> and<00:06:51.757> certainly<00:06:52.157> there<00:06:52.237> are<00:06:52.318> folks<00:06:52.702> who<00:06:52.798> are<00:06:52.879> developing<00:06:53.424> further<00:06:53.760> along,<00:06:54.065> along<00:06:54.321> those<00:06:54.546> lines.

00:06:56.165 --> 00:07:05.158
But<00:06:56.325> the<00:06:56.405> reality<00:06:57.351> of,<00:06:58.072> you<00:06:58.104> know,<00:06:58.730> what<00:06:59.275> AI<00:06:59.772> is<00:06:59.996> today<00:07:00.573> and<00:07:00.733> where<00:07:00.974> it<00:07:01.054> can<00:07:01.439> be<00:07:02.320> is<00:07:02.641> really,<00:07:03.202> I<00:07:03.298> think,<00:07:03.923> an<00:07:04.420> interesting<00:07:04.965> one.

00:07:05.222 --> 00:07:16.651
Because<00:07:06.168> what<00:07:06.440> excites<00:07:06.905> me<00:07:07.049> the<00:07:07.145> most<00:07:07.466> about<00:07:07.771> sort<00:07:07.931> of<00:07:08.027> where<00:07:08.332> AI<00:07:09.294> has<00:07:09.486> evolved<00:07:09.935> to<00:07:10.191> where<00:07:10.592> we<00:07:10.816> are<00:07:10.897> today<00:07:11.217> in<00:07:11.297> 2023<00:07:12.259> is<00:07:12.500> the<00:07:12.836> application<00:07:13.397> of<00:07:13.622> AI<00:07:13.958> in<00:07:14.119> areas<00:07:14.503> that<00:07:15.145> just<00:07:15.545> are<00:07:15.866> very<00:07:16.058> much<00:07:16.363> needed.

00:07:16.764 --> 00:07:26.605
We're<00:07:16.876> seeing<00:07:17.164> the<00:07:17.325> application<00:07:18.190> of<00:07:18.591> AI/ML<00:07:20.194> in<00:07:20.434> health,<00:07:22.133> caretaking,<00:07:22.855> the<00:07:22.935> care<00:07:23.239> economy,<00:07:23.880> in<00:07:24.057> areas<00:07:24.377> where<00:07:24.618> we<00:07:24.842> really<00:07:25.098> can<00:07:25.483> use<00:07:25.740> a<00:07:25.804> lot<00:07:25.980> of<00:07:26.060> that<00:07:26.300> work.

00:07:27.182 --> 00:07:43.129
If<00:07:27.262> you<00:07:27.342> look<00:07:27.567> at<00:07:27.663> where<00:07:27.903> we<00:07:28.063> are<00:07:28.208> today,<00:07:28.945> the<00:07:29.089> application<00:07:29.890> of<00:07:30.612> AI<00:07:30.868> and<00:07:31.093> drug<00:07:31.349> discovery,<00:07:31.990> we<00:07:32.070> can<00:07:32.375> run<00:07:33.016> utilizing<00:07:33.657> AI<00:07:33.913> models<00:07:35.500> and<00:07:35.676> sort<00:07:35.901> of<00:07:36.109> rapidly<00:07:36.574> sort<00:07:36.862> of<00:07:37.343> test<00:07:38.080> so<00:07:38.241> that<00:07:38.385> we<00:07:38.465> can<00:07:38.625> actually<00:07:38.818> get<00:07:39.026> vaccines<00:07:39.763> and<00:07:39.923> all<00:07:40.068> of<00:07:40.148> these<00:07:40.324> things<00:07:40.564> out<00:07:40.725> faster<00:07:41.125> than<00:07:41.286> we<00:07:41.510> ever<00:07:41.686> have<00:07:41.911> been<00:07:42.071> able<00:07:42.311> to<00:07:42.424> do,<00:07:42.808> right?

00:07:43.513 --> 00:07:50.629
We<00:07:43.610> can<00:07:43.754> actually<00:07:44.154> identify<00:07:45.693> what<00:07:45.773> could<00:07:45.933> be<00:07:46.078> a<00:07:46.094> cancerous<00:07:46.671> cell<00:07:47.119> utilizing<00:07:47.841> AI<00:07:48.177> applied<00:07:48.914> into<00:07:49.844> computer<00:07:50.261> imaging.

00:07:51.756 --> 00:08:04.153
And<00:07:51.837> so<00:07:52.078> for<00:07:52.465> us,<00:07:52.804> and<00:07:52.949> the<00:07:53.029> most<00:07:53.207> important<00:07:53.594> piece<00:07:53.916> for<00:07:54.400> LogicMark<00:07:54.915> itself,<00:07:55.850> we<00:07:56.028> love<00:07:56.898> and<00:07:57.140> are<00:07:57.220> excited<00:07:57.801> about<00:07:58.026> the<00:07:58.188> application<00:07:58.832> of<00:07:59.074> AI<00:07:59.413> and<00:07:59.574> ML<00:08:00.219> into<00:08:00.703> the<00:08:00.784> category<00:08:01.578> of<00:08:02.550> care<00:08:03.295> and<00:08:03.360> the<00:08:03.441> care<00:08:03.700> economy.

00:08:04.526 --> 00:08:16.989
So<00:08:04.672> how<00:08:04.834> do<00:08:04.931> we<00:08:05.077> apply<00:08:06.049> what<00:08:06.276> basically<00:08:06.843> when<00:08:07.005> people<00:08:07.280> look<00:08:07.491> at<00:08:07.653> AI<00:08:07.993> and<00:08:08.042> ML<00:08:09.286> into<00:08:10.092> other<00:08:10.253> category<00:08:10.817> areas<00:08:11.123> is<00:08:11.365> how<00:08:11.477> do<00:08:11.558> we<00:08:11.703> make<00:08:12.332> AI<00:08:12.573> and<00:08:12.734> ML<00:08:13.153> work<00:08:13.540> for<00:08:13.718> the<00:08:13.798> people<00:08:14.185> who<00:08:14.217> are<00:08:14.346> the<00:08:14.443> most<00:08:14.684> vulnerable<00:08:15.571> and<00:08:15.651> most<00:08:15.893> in<00:08:16.038> need<00:08:16.215> of<00:08:16.296> that<00:08:16.457> technology?

00:08:17.745 --> 00:08:24.036
And<00:08:17.845> so<00:08:18.010> if<00:08:18.142> you<00:08:18.242> look<00:08:18.473> at<00:08:18.572> what's<00:08:18.738> happening<00:08:19.151> today,<00:08:19.300> by<00:08:19.416> 2040,<00:08:19.730> 1<00:08:20.160> in<00:08:20.210> 4<00:08:20.326> Americans<00:08:22.610> Americans<00:08:22.802> will<00:08:22.882> be<00:08:22.978> 65<00:08:23.603> and<00:08:23.748> over.

00:08:24.245 --> 00:08:27.595
And<00:08:24.389> of<00:08:24.469> that<00:08:24.645> category<00:08:25.287> of<00:08:25.367> people,<00:08:26.489> 1<00:08:26.649> in<00:08:26.809> 4<00:08:27.130> will<00:08:27.210> fall.

00:08:32.019 --> 00:08:43.849
And<00:08:32.115> so<00:08:32.340> how<00:08:32.580> do<00:08:32.725> we<00:08:32.821> apply<00:08:33.446> AI<00:08:33.847> and<00:08:33.943> ML<00:08:34.680> so<00:08:34.889> that<00:08:34.985> we<00:08:35.129> can<00:08:35.369> actually<00:08:35.706> better<00:08:36.011> identify<00:08:37.870> risk<00:08:38.095> factors,<00:08:38.992> right,<00:08:39.457> for<00:08:39.794> an<00:08:40.098> elderly<00:08:40.499> person<00:08:40.852> so<00:08:41.012> that<00:08:41.156> we<00:08:41.301> can<00:08:41.461> actually<00:08:42.118> forestall<00:08:42.615> that<00:08:42.759> fall<00:08:43.160> in<00:08:43.224> the<00:08:43.304> first<00:08:43.641> place?

00:08:44.282 --> 00:08:48.162
That's<00:08:44.747> really<00:08:45.068> where<00:08:45.180> we're<00:08:45.404> interested<00:08:46.110> in<00:08:46.222> sort<00:08:46.366> of<00:08:46.526> developing<00:08:46.927> the<00:08:47.007> company<00:08:47.408> forward<00:08:47.809> into.

00:08:48.931 --> 00:08:57.874
Today<00:08:49.332> I<00:08:49.396> would<00:08:49.492> say<00:08:49.668> that<00:08:49.893> we<00:08:50.117> are<00:08:50.614> developing<00:08:51.175> better<00:08:51.416> technology<00:08:52.121> using<00:08:52.522> AI<00:08:52.939> and<00:08:53.035> ML<00:08:53.724> to<00:08:53.820> basically<00:08:54.221> get<00:08:54.445> you<00:08:54.542> get<00:08:54.590> the<00:08:54.670> help<00:08:54.782> that<00:08:55.006> you<00:08:55.038> need<00:08:55.327> faster,<00:08:56.528> trigger<00:08:56.785> less<00:08:57.105> false<00:08:57.409> positives.

00:08:57.970 --> 00:09:00.277
And<00:08:58.066> that's<00:08:58.531> all<00:08:58.707> really<00:08:58.948> great<00:08:59.188> reactive<00:08:59.669> technology.

00:09:00.790 --> 00:09:11.861
But<00:09:00.838> what<00:09:00.934> we're<00:09:01.095> really<00:09:01.431> trying<00:09:01.655> to<00:09:01.816> do<00:09:02.697> is<00:09:02.937> use<00:09:03.177> the<00:09:03.274> data<00:09:03.594> that<00:09:03.914> we're,<00:09:04.555> you<00:09:04.635> know,<00:09:05.356> gathering<00:09:05.917> and<00:09:06.109> sort<00:09:06.943> of<00:09:07.039> helping<00:09:07.439> our<00:09:07.824> users<00:09:08.304> with<00:09:09.106> and<00:09:09.266> utilizing<00:09:09.762> that<00:09:09.987> to<00:09:10.083> actually<00:09:10.467> prevent<00:09:10.804> the<00:09:10.948> fall<00:09:11.140> in<00:09:11.220> the<00:09:11.285> first<00:09:11.669> place.

00:09:11.925 --> 00:09:14.665
Because<00:09:12.246> typically<00:09:12.726> when<00:09:12.871> you<00:09:12.967> have<00:09:13.063> a<00:09:13.127> fall,<00:09:13.688> it<00:09:13.768> just<00:09:14.072> escalates.

00:09:14.729 --> 00:09:17.261
It<00:09:14.809> gets<00:09:15.114> you<00:09:15.290> into<00:09:15.530> a<00:09:15.546> situation<00:09:16.251> where<00:09:16.412> you're<00:09:16.492> in<00:09:16.732> worse<00:09:16.972> health.

00:09:17.998 --> 00:09:42.537
And<00:09:18.094> so<00:09:18.238> if<00:09:18.334> we<00:09:18.414> can<00:09:18.575> actually<00:09:18.815> try<00:09:19.279> to<00:09:19.456> get<00:09:20.081> a<00:09:20.241> walker<00:09:20.481> in<00:09:20.577> front<00:09:20.802> of<00:09:20.898> you<00:09:21.042> because<00:09:21.378> some<00:09:21.555> of<00:09:21.619> the<00:09:21.939> things<00:09:22.179> that<00:09:22.324> we're<00:09:22.436> seeing<00:09:22.740> in<00:09:22.836> terms<00:09:23.141> of<00:09:23.301> your<00:09:23.960> patterns<00:09:25.587> make<00:09:25.910> you<00:09:26.571> look<00:09:26.796> like<00:09:27.038> you're<00:09:27.199> more<00:09:27.457> vulnerable,<00:09:28.102> that<00:09:28.730> being<00:09:28.891> able<00:09:29.069> to<00:09:29.214> sort<00:09:29.327> of<00:09:29.472> alert<00:09:29.794> your<00:09:29.955> caretakers,<00:09:30.681> both<00:09:30.906> professional<00:09:31.390> and<00:09:31.486> your<00:09:31.583> family<00:09:31.970> members,<00:09:32.453> that<00:09:33.001> this<00:09:33.163> pattern<00:09:33.582> is<00:09:33.743> emerging,<00:09:34.937> then<00:09:35.260> we're<00:09:35.502> actually<00:09:35.825> going<00:09:36.002> to<00:09:36.147> put<00:09:36.389> you<00:09:36.470> in<00:09:36.502> a<00:09:36.567> better<00:09:36.873> place<00:09:37.454> in<00:09:37.535> terms<00:09:37.793> of<00:09:37.922> having<00:09:38.180> a<00:09:38.261> long,<00:09:38.648> you<00:09:38.761> know,<00:09:38.907> better<00:09:39.149> longevity<00:09:40.439> and<00:09:40.827> more<00:09:41.004> graceful<00:09:41.553> aging<00:09:41.875> in<00:09:41.956> your<00:09:42.134> own<00:09:42.279> home.

00:09:44.582 --> 00:09:53.509
Yeah,<00:09:44.969> like<00:09:45.728> I'm<00:09:45.954> never<00:09:46.196> like<00:09:46.503> really<00:09:46.842> sure<00:09:47.391> what<00:09:48.537> the<00:09:48.860> doomsday<00:09:49.651> AI<00:09:49.973> people<00:09:50.538> like,<00:09:50.732> it's<00:09:51.507> whenever<00:09:51.830> it's<00:09:51.927> like<00:09:52.153> AI<00:09:52.411> is<00:09:52.556> gonna<00:09:52.734> like<00:09:52.976> destroy<00:09:53.283> the<00:09:53.363> world.

00:09:54.238 --> 00:10:00.839
I've<00:09:54.335> never<00:09:54.577> heard<00:09:54.739> a<00:09:54.803> good<00:09:54.965> answer<00:09:55.223> to<00:09:55.320> like,<00:09:55.691> how,<00:09:57.724> you<00:09:58.047> know,<00:09:58.918> because<00:09:59.096> this<00:09:59.257> is<00:09:59.338> just<00:09:59.580> math<00:10:00.145> and<00:10:00.387> code.

00:10:01.804 --> 00:10:04.068
So<00:10:01.884> I<00:10:01.965> don't<00:10:02.159> know<00:10:02.370> how<00:10:02.548> it<00:10:03.405> gets<00:10:03.761> away.

00:10:04.214 --> 00:10:06.252
I<00:10:04.262> don't<00:10:04.537> know,<00:10:04.877> let's—<00:10:05.281> it's<00:10:05.459> kind<00:10:05.621> of<00:10:05.686> fascinating,<00:10:06.220> huh?

00:10:07.384 --> 00:10:08.986
Well,<00:10:07.708> I<00:10:07.789> mean,<00:10:08.096> I<00:10:08.193> think<00:10:08.371> of<00:10:08.500> it<00:10:08.662> this<00:10:08.905> way.

00:10:09.083 --> 00:10:28.057
So<00:10:09.309> as<00:10:09.422> a<00:10:09.487> woman<00:10:09.794> of<00:10:09.875> color,<00:10:10.457> I<00:10:10.538> certainly<00:10:10.862> think<00:10:11.184> that,<00:10:11.989> you<00:10:12.053> know,<00:10:12.295> a<00:10:12.311> lot<00:10:12.633> of<00:10:12.713> when<00:10:12.858> we<00:10:13.019> look<00:10:13.196> at<00:10:13.277> sort<00:10:13.518> of<00:10:13.744> AI<00:10:14.227> and<00:10:14.291> ML,<00:10:14.645> the<00:10:14.871> things<00:10:15.112> that<00:10:15.289> people<00:10:15.515> are<00:10:15.772> really<00:10:16.014> concerned<00:10:16.481> about<00:10:16.803> is,<00:10:17.302> is<00:10:17.447> there<00:10:17.624> enough<00:10:17.946> full<00:10:18.268> human<00:10:18.671> participation<00:10:19.556> and<00:10:19.637> development<00:10:20.265> of<00:10:20.410> AI<00:10:20.687> and<00:10:20.931> ML<00:10:21.649> by<00:10:21.894> a<00:10:21.975> diverse<00:10:22.481> enough<00:10:22.807> group<00:10:22.954> of<00:10:22.986> people<00:10:23.084> so<00:10:23.133> that<00:10:23.231> it<00:10:23.280> really<00:10:23.443> does<00:10:23.492> not<00:10:25.510> become<00:10:25.862> a<00:10:25.942> product<00:10:26.327> that<00:10:26.503> is<00:10:26.743> used<00:10:27.000> against<00:10:27.448> you,<00:10:27.560> right?

00:10:28.506 --> 00:10:38.328
And<00:10:28.586> so<00:10:28.746> one<00:10:28.922> of<00:10:29.002> the<00:10:29.147> things<00:10:29.483> that,<00:10:29.772> you<00:10:29.868> know,<00:10:30.188> I<00:10:30.268> think<00:10:30.493> it's<00:10:30.589> a<00:10:30.669> classic<00:10:31.150> example<00:10:31.694> of,<00:10:31.790> you<00:10:31.887> know,<00:10:32.015> what<00:10:32.111> people<00:10:32.335> are<00:10:32.431> talking<00:10:32.816> about<00:10:33.056> is<00:10:33.553> the<00:10:33.777> application,<00:10:34.258> the<00:10:34.418> AI,<00:10:34.899> ML<00:10:35.316> looking<00:10:35.636> for<00:10:35.796> patterns<00:10:36.533> of<00:10:36.758> who<00:10:36.902> you<00:10:36.982> should<00:10:37.158> hire,<00:10:38.184> right?

00:10:38.680 --> 00:10:47.301
And<00:10:38.760> the<00:10:38.905> realities<00:10:39.642> of<00:10:39.786> that,<00:10:40.122> for<00:10:40.267> example,<00:10:40.747> is<00:10:40.843> that<00:10:41.484> oftentimes<00:10:42.382> it<00:10:43.023> skews<00:10:43.647> very<00:10:44.513> much<00:10:44.689> towards<00:10:45.154> one<00:10:45.410> group<00:10:45.666> of<00:10:45.730> people<00:10:46.131> or<00:10:46.211> not,<00:10:46.996> right?

00:10:47.813 --> 00:11:17.258
And<00:10:47.894> so<00:10:48.134> I<00:10:48.214> think<00:10:48.454> that<00:10:48.599> there's<00:10:48.839> a<00:10:48.855> lot<00:10:49.111> of<00:10:49.175> fear<00:10:49.480> from<00:10:49.656> people<00:10:50.057> to<00:10:50.153> say<00:10:50.457> like,<00:10:50.698> look,<00:10:50.858> do<00:10:51.002> we<00:10:51.098> feel<00:10:51.419> like<00:10:51.579> we<00:10:51.739> have<00:10:52.700> put<00:10:53.005> in<00:10:54.079> Enough<00:10:54.367> that<00:10:54.544> the<00:10:54.640> right<00:10:54.880> information,<00:10:55.666> do<00:10:55.746> we<00:10:55.906> tag<00:10:56.307> that<00:10:56.467> information<00:10:57.092> in<00:10:57.188> a<00:10:57.269> way<00:10:57.589> that<00:10:57.894> allows<00:10:58.391> the<00:10:58.615> AI<00:10:58.952> to<00:10:59.096> sort<00:10:59.288> of<00:10:59.417> be<00:11:00.314> diverse<00:11:01.340> and<00:11:01.436> imbue<00:11:01.982> it<00:11:02.158> with<00:11:02.703> which<00:11:03.264> I<00:11:03.344> would<00:11:03.440> call<00:11:03.697> sort<00:11:03.937> of<00:11:04.402> human<00:11:04.819> sort<00:11:05.107> of<00:11:05.284> like<00:11:05.781> intelligence<00:11:06.871> into<00:11:07.833> artificial<00:11:08.249> intelligence<00:11:08.810> so<00:11:09.035> that<00:11:09.211> it<00:11:09.355> operates<00:11:09.772> closer<00:11:10.173> to<00:11:10.397> how<00:11:10.574> people<00:11:10.958> make<00:11:11.135> decisions,<00:11:12.081> good<00:11:12.241> or<00:11:12.321> bad,<00:11:13.684> versus<00:11:14.261> one<00:11:14.501> that<00:11:14.677> is<00:11:14.822> straight<00:11:15.287> out<00:11:15.463> pattern<00:11:15.783> recognition<00:11:16.489> work,<00:11:16.970> right?

00:11:18.252 --> 00:11:31.828
And<00:11:18.493> who<00:11:18.653> puts<00:11:18.925> in<00:11:19.054> that<00:11:19.230> data<00:11:19.711> and<00:11:19.855> how<00:11:20.272> that<00:11:20.432> data<00:11:20.753> is<00:11:20.897> tagged<00:11:21.538> is<00:11:21.795> often<00:11:22.196> where,<00:11:23.061> you<00:11:23.093> know,<00:11:23.189> folks<00:11:23.558> who<00:11:24.215> spend<00:11:24.504> a<00:11:24.584> lot<00:11:24.744> of<00:11:24.776> time<00:11:25.017> in<00:11:25.225> AI<00:11:25.562> ML<00:11:25.802> think<00:11:26.059> about<00:11:26.299> a<00:11:26.427> lot,<00:11:26.748> which<00:11:26.988> is,<00:11:27.325> you<00:11:27.469> know,<00:11:28.206> the<00:11:28.367> data<00:11:28.767> is<00:11:28.927> junk<00:11:29.248> going<00:11:29.569> in,<00:11:29.729> then<00:11:29.873> you're<00:11:29.985> going<00:11:30.113> to<00:11:30.210> get<00:11:30.434> junk<00:11:30.690> results<00:11:31.251> coming<00:11:31.492> out.

00:11:32.598 --> 00:11:37.903
And<00:11:32.710> so<00:11:33.816> that<00:11:34.056> is<00:11:34.216> what<00:11:34.537> people<00:11:34.793> fear,<00:11:35.739> and<00:11:35.979> I<00:11:36.140> can<00:11:36.540> empathize<00:11:37.005> with<00:11:37.101> that<00:11:37.422> completely.

00:11:38.640 --> 00:11:39.698
So<00:11:38.848> yeah,<00:11:39.024> that's<00:11:39.281> interesting.

00:11:40.451 --> 00:11:47.262
Um,<00:11:41.348> switching<00:11:41.669> topics<00:11:42.102> a<00:11:42.134> little<00:11:42.310> bit,<00:11:42.470> just<00:11:42.695> around<00:11:43.191> leadership,<00:11:43.849> and<00:11:43.977> in<00:11:44.009> particular<00:11:44.474> we<00:11:44.618> talk<00:11:44.858> a<00:11:44.874> lot<00:11:44.970> about<00:11:45.355> self-leadership<00:11:46.237> at<00:11:46.301> CEO.com.

00:11:47.823 --> 00:11:54.298
I<00:11:47.984> wonder<00:11:48.304> what,<00:11:48.785> um,<00:11:49.843> when<00:11:50.003> you<00:11:50.147> hear<00:11:50.323> that<00:11:50.628> phrase,<00:11:51.285> when<00:11:51.461> you,<00:11:51.606> when<00:11:51.750> you<00:11:51.846> think<00:11:52.070> of<00:11:52.167> like<00:11:52.407> self-leadership,<00:11:53.208> what<00:11:53.529> comes<00:11:53.769> to<00:11:53.849> mind?

00:11:54.346 --> 00:11:57.536
And<00:11:54.474> also<00:11:54.891> like<00:11:55.612> like,<00:11:55.757> what<00:11:55.837> does<00:11:55.949> a<00:11:56.013> typical<00:11:56.494> day<00:11:56.815> look<00:11:57.055> like<00:11:57.280> for<00:11:57.392> you?

00:11:57.632 --> 00:11:59.508
How<00:11:57.777> do<00:11:57.841> you<00:11:57.937> choose<00:11:58.257> what<00:11:58.434> to<00:11:58.562> focus<00:11:59.203> on?

00:11:59.700 --> 00:12:02.201
What—<00:11:59.796> do<00:11:59.844> you<00:11:59.876> have<00:12:00.005> any<00:12:00.165> routines<00:12:00.582> or<00:12:00.726> habits<00:12:01.223> that<00:12:01.303> have<00:12:01.399> improved<00:12:01.784> your<00:12:01.944> life?

00:12:02.666 --> 00:12:03.419
That<00:12:02.826> type<00:12:03.066> of<00:12:03.147> thing.

00:12:03.692 --> 00:12:07.170
Um,<00:12:04.173> because,<00:12:04.573> because<00:12:04.894> all<00:12:05.006> of<00:12:05.134> that<00:12:05.311> is<00:12:05.407> involved<00:12:05.952> with,<00:12:06.337> uh,<00:12:06.449> self-leadership.

00:12:08.421 --> 00:12:09.206
Sure,<00:12:08.581> absolutely.

00:12:09.462 --> 00:12:15.859
Um,<00:12:10.104> I<00:12:10.280> actually<00:12:11.146> am<00:12:11.242> a<00:12:11.258> firm<00:12:11.562> believer,<00:12:12.829> um,<00:12:14.031> you<00:12:14.063> know,<00:12:14.288> in,<00:12:15.169> you<00:12:15.249> know,<00:12:15.570> leading.

00:12:16.436 --> 00:12:21.597
Um,<00:12:17.317> you<00:12:17.397> know,<00:12:18.055> that<00:12:18.279> I<00:12:18.375> should<00:12:18.616> be—<00:12:18.936> you<00:12:19.097> know,<00:12:19.177> if<00:12:19.257> there's<00:12:19.497> a<00:12:19.658> battle,<00:12:20.074> that<00:12:20.299> I<00:12:20.379> should<00:12:20.539> be<00:12:20.619> the<00:12:20.700> first<00:12:21.004> one<00:12:21.164> in<00:12:21.325> front.

00:12:22.126 --> 00:12:24.067
Your<00:12:22.223> leaders<00:12:22.608> are<00:12:22.640> not<00:12:23.089> guiding<00:12:23.425> from<00:12:23.586> the<00:12:23.666> back.

And<00:12:43.776> so<00:12:44.434> part<00:12:44.739> of<00:12:44.819> that,<00:12:45.236> and<00:12:45.332> to<00:12:45.492> sort<00:12:45.717> of<00:12:45.877> remind<00:12:46.198> myself<00:12:46.679> every<00:12:46.920> day<00:12:47.385> of<00:12:47.866> what<00:12:47.962> it<00:12:48.026> means<00:12:48.283> to<00:12:48.363> be<00:12:49.084> part<00:12:49.308> of<00:12:49.389> the<00:12:49.469> human<00:12:49.789> experience<00:12:50.831> and<00:12:51.713> how<00:12:51.969> to<00:12:52.049> sort<00:12:52.290> of<00:12:52.450> build<00:12:52.610> technology<00:12:53.412> that<00:12:53.652> actually<00:12:53.957> has<00:12:54.293> empathy<00:12:54.774> towards<00:12:55.095> my<00:12:55.255> customers<00:12:56.201> and<00:12:56.377> the<00:12:56.457> people<00:12:56.778> who<00:12:56.938> use<00:12:57.114> my<00:12:57.259> technology<00:12:58.381> is<00:12:58.461> I<00:12:58.541> do<00:12:58.637> something<00:12:59.022> that<00:12:59.182> I<00:12:59.262> call<00:13:00.368> one<00:13:00.528> kindness<00:13:00.945> a<00:13:01.009> day.

00:13:01.827 --> 00:13:10.723
And<00:13:01.923> so<00:13:02.372> I<00:13:02.468> call<00:13:02.772> it<00:13:02.885> the<00:13:03.029> sort<00:13:03.269> of<00:13:03.414> love<00:13:03.590> child<00:13:04.776> concept<00:13:05.433> between<00:13:05.850> sort<00:13:06.074> of<00:13:06.315> Malcolm<00:13:07.036> Gladwell<00:13:08.382> and<00:13:08.879> Buddha<00:13:09.921> and<00:13:10.001> so<00:13:10.322> Buddhism.

00:13:11.508 --> 00:13:12.854
And<00:13:11.604> so<00:13:11.780> it's<00:13:11.925> kind<00:13:12.085> of<00:13:12.229> a<00:13:12.325> weird<00:13:12.646> thing.

00:13:12.967 --> 00:13:23.641
But,<00:13:14.169> you<00:13:14.249> know,<00:13:14.409> when<00:13:14.569> people<00:13:14.874> talk<00:13:15.130> about<00:13:16.189> Malcolm<00:13:16.575> Gladwell,<00:13:17.121> this<00:13:17.297> idea<00:13:17.602> of<00:13:17.699> like,<00:13:18.164> you<00:13:18.486> have<00:13:18.662> to<00:13:18.823> be<00:13:19.305> practicing<00:13:19.786> the<00:13:19.867> violin<00:13:20.188> 10,000<00:13:20.895> hours<00:13:21.553> in<00:13:21.617> order<00:13:21.714> to<00:13:21.794> be<00:13:21.874> a<00:13:21.954> really,<00:13:22.260> really<00:13:22.436> good<00:13:22.597> violinist,<00:13:23.303> right?

00:13:23.962 --> 00:13:42.719
And<00:13:24.042> so<00:13:24.203> when<00:13:24.347> I<00:13:24.428> think<00:13:24.620> about<00:13:24.845> basically<00:13:25.471> practicing<00:13:26.034> empathy<00:13:26.451> and<00:13:26.531> kindness<00:13:27.334> and<00:13:27.479> how<00:13:27.656> to<00:13:27.816> basically<00:13:28.218> make<00:13:28.442> that<00:13:28.603> the<00:13:28.683> forefront<00:13:29.165> of<00:13:29.261> everything<00:13:29.583> that<00:13:29.727> you<00:13:29.888> do<00:13:30.145> from<00:13:30.450> a<00:13:30.546> sort<00:13:31.028> of<00:13:31.173> leadership<00:13:31.590> perspective<00:13:32.072> at<00:13:32.232> work<00:13:32.698> and<00:13:32.795> just<00:13:33.035> being<00:13:33.260> a<00:13:33.341> human<00:13:33.662> being,<00:13:34.802> it<00:13:34.963> means<00:13:35.187> that<00:13:35.348> you<00:13:35.444> really<00:13:35.669> have<00:13:35.846> to<00:13:35.990> practice<00:13:36.408> the<00:13:36.504> kindness<00:13:36.970> muscle<00:13:37.355> every<00:13:37.596> day<00:13:37.998> and<00:13:38.158> do<00:13:38.271> it<00:13:38.399> with<00:13:38.512> a<00:13:38.576> consciousness<00:13:39.443> of<00:13:39.539> doing<00:13:39.861> that<00:13:40.118> every<00:13:40.342> day<00:13:41.049> in<00:13:41.145> order<00:13:41.258> to<00:13:41.402> get<00:13:41.627> better<00:13:41.932> at<00:13:41.964> it<00:13:42.029> and<00:13:42.253> build<00:13:42.350> that<00:13:42.510> muscle.

00:13:43.714 --> 00:13:54.994
And<00:13:43.794> so<00:13:44.998> I<00:13:45.142> do<00:13:45.319> that<00:13:45.559> one<00:13:45.720> kindness<00:13:46.041> practice<00:13:46.426> a<00:13:46.458> day,<00:13:46.763> which<00:13:47.003> means<00:13:47.228> that<00:13:47.324> every<00:13:47.565> day<00:13:48.785> I<00:13:49.250> wake<00:13:49.555> up<00:13:49.715> and<00:13:49.795> I<00:13:49.892> think<00:13:50.068> about,<00:13:50.517> you<00:13:50.550> know,<00:13:50.854> what<00:13:51.015> is,<00:13:51.577> you<00:13:51.737> know,<00:13:51.801> I'm<00:13:52.122> going<00:13:52.299> to<00:13:52.379> try<00:13:52.539> to<00:13:52.619> practice<00:13:53.406> and<00:13:53.502> doing<00:13:53.759> something<00:13:54.144> kind<00:13:54.529> for<00:13:54.577> somebody.

00:13:55.813 --> 00:13:56.920
And<00:13:55.909> that<00:13:56.005> could<00:13:56.133> be<00:13:56.230> big<00:13:56.390> or<00:13:56.470> small.

00:13:57.818 --> 00:14:03.932
And<00:13:57.931> so,<00:13:58.396> and<00:13:58.476> not<00:13:58.717> expect<00:13:59.038> anything<00:13:59.375> in<00:13:59.439> return<00:13:59.776> because<00:14:00.482> the<00:14:00.626> world<00:14:00.787> that<00:14:00.883> we<00:14:01.027> live<00:14:01.204> in<00:14:01.284> shouldn't<00:14:01.685> be<00:14:01.926> a<00:14:02.488> quid<00:14:02.648> pro<00:14:02.809> quo<00:14:03.691> at<00:14:03.771> all.

00:14:04.156 --> 00:14:04.365
Right.

00:14:04.959 --> 00:14:20.184
And<00:14:05.055> so<00:14:05.857> how<00:14:06.098> do<00:14:06.258> we<00:14:06.419> basically<00:14:06.980> build<00:14:07.847> empathy<00:14:08.569> and<00:14:08.649> kindness<00:14:09.147> into<00:14:09.371> our<00:14:09.467> lives<00:14:10.173> and,<00:14:10.350> you<00:14:10.430> know,<00:14:11.418> build<00:14:11.660> sort<00:14:11.901> of<00:14:11.998> that<00:14:12.223> circle<00:14:13.110> of<00:14:13.512> opportunity<00:14:14.189> so<00:14:14.479> that<00:14:14.979> when<00:14:15.140> we<00:14:15.365> build<00:14:15.607> that,<00:14:15.945> it<00:14:16.171> also<00:14:17.057> causes<00:14:17.460> other<00:14:17.637> people<00:14:17.959> to<00:14:18.104> want<00:14:18.201> to<00:14:18.282> do<00:14:18.749> a<00:14:18.765> similar<00:14:19.248> sort<00:14:19.554> of<00:14:19.700> experience.

00:14:20.296 --> 00:14:33.665
And<00:14:20.942> in<00:14:21.023> a<00:14:21.168> workplace,<00:14:21.894> I<00:14:21.991> find<00:14:22.394> that<00:14:23.281> by<00:14:23.669> building<00:14:24.088> that,<00:14:24.653> for<00:14:24.798> example,<00:14:25.718> it<00:14:25.847> allows<00:14:26.266> people<00:14:26.589> to<00:14:26.750> sort<00:14:26.976> of<00:14:27.057> want<00:14:27.202> to<00:14:27.234> collaborate<00:14:28.267> more<00:14:28.525> together<00:14:28.928> because<00:14:29.187> they're<00:14:29.300> not<00:14:29.494> looking<00:14:29.801> for,<00:14:29.962> hey,<00:14:30.076> if<00:14:30.205> I<00:14:30.302> do<00:14:30.464> this<00:14:30.690> for<00:14:30.852> you,<00:14:30.965> like,<00:14:31.337> you<00:14:31.579> owe<00:14:31.595> me<00:14:31.773> something<00:14:32.242> in<00:14:32.404> return<00:14:32.889> in<00:14:32.953> the<00:14:33.115> work<00:14:33.293> environment.

00:14:33.762 --> 00:14:48.998
Because<00:14:34.101> really,<00:14:36.025> as<00:14:36.122> a<00:14:36.203> company<00:14:36.753> of<00:14:37.157> what<00:14:37.335> we<00:14:37.497> do,<00:14:38.289> you<00:14:38.321> know,<00:14:38.548> which<00:14:38.774> is<00:14:38.871> to<00:14:38.920> basically<00:14:39.358> help<00:14:40.050> the<00:14:40.151> sandwich<00:14:40.438> generation<00:14:40.623> take<00:14:40.691> better<00:14:40.758> care<00:14:42.876> of<00:14:43.132> their<00:14:43.292> loved<00:14:43.613> ones,<00:14:44.959> then<00:14:45.216> really<00:14:45.536> what<00:14:45.681> we're<00:14:45.777> trying<00:14:45.937> to<00:14:46.017> do<00:14:46.193> is<00:14:46.290> to<00:14:46.402> build<00:14:46.578> a<00:14:46.642> compassionate<00:14:47.924> technology<00:14:48.501> for<00:14:48.662> people.

00:14:49.062 --> 00:14:54.672
So<00:14:49.704> really,<00:14:50.104> we<00:14:50.184> shouldn't<00:14:50.441> be<00:14:50.585> thinking<00:14:50.809> about,<00:14:51.050> you<00:14:51.082> know,<00:14:51.306> what<00:14:51.386> can<00:14:51.611> I<00:14:51.691> do<00:14:51.851> for<00:14:52.028> each<00:14:52.188> other<00:14:52.909> to<00:14:53.294> get<00:14:53.550> ahead<00:14:53.951> and<00:14:54.095> move<00:14:54.271> ahead?

00:14:55.073 --> 00:14:59.128
We<00:14:55.153> should<00:14:55.313> be<00:14:55.458> thinking<00:14:55.714> about<00:14:56.019> how<00:14:56.115> do<00:14:56.275> we,<00:14:56.836> you<00:14:56.932> know,<00:14:57.397> make<00:14:57.557> things<00:14:57.798> better<00:14:58.503> for<00:14:58.551> our<00:14:58.599> customers.

00:14:59.785 --> 00:15:06.757
And<00:14:59.897> so<00:15:00.426> we<00:15:00.586> try<00:15:00.763> to<00:15:00.923> put<00:15:01.083> that<00:15:01.260> into—<00:15:01.484> so<00:15:02.045> doing<00:15:02.269> that<00:15:02.366> practice<00:15:02.766> every<00:15:02.927> day<00:15:03.247> allows<00:15:03.632> me<00:15:03.664> to<00:15:03.808> do<00:15:03.952> that<00:15:04.209> in<00:15:04.273> my<00:15:04.369> personal<00:15:04.834> life<00:15:05.090> and<00:15:05.315> also<00:15:05.491> practice<00:15:05.812> that<00:15:06.052> in<00:15:06.132> my<00:15:06.292> work<00:15:06.517> life.

00:15:07.414 --> 00:15:25.962
And<00:15:07.478> then<00:15:07.591> that<00:15:07.879> way,<00:15:08.136> we've,<00:15:08.456> for<00:15:08.600> example,<00:15:09.161> looked<00:15:09.402> at<00:15:09.562> things<00:15:09.883> like<00:15:10.620> implementing<00:15:11.261> a<00:15:11.822> via<00:15:12.127> HR,<00:15:13.169> um,<00:15:13.746> ways<00:15:13.970> to<00:15:14.131> gift<00:15:14.371> each<00:15:14.547> other<00:15:15.349> and<00:15:15.445> to<00:15:15.573> say<00:15:15.814> a<00:15:15.830> thank<00:15:16.215> you,<00:15:17.096> you<00:15:17.129> know,<00:15:17.289> for<00:15:17.674> somebody<00:15:18.155> who<00:15:18.539> went<00:15:18.780> out<00:15:18.876> of<00:15:18.956> their<00:15:19.181> way<00:15:19.501> to<00:15:19.678> do<00:15:19.774> something<00:15:20.255> great<00:15:20.543> for<00:15:20.720> you<00:15:20.864> at<00:15:21.040> work,<00:15:21.585> because<00:15:21.906> even<00:15:22.082> though<00:15:22.179> it's<00:15:22.323> not<00:15:22.419> part<00:15:22.660> of<00:15:22.820> their<00:15:22.964> job,<00:15:23.766> because<00:15:24.086> they<00:15:24.247> just<00:15:24.567> were<00:15:24.888> trying<00:15:25.289> to<00:15:25.433> do<00:15:25.465> the<00:15:25.529> right<00:15:25.770> thing.

00:15:26.555 --> 00:15:39.974
And<00:15:26.635> you<00:15:26.796> can't<00:15:27.116> gift<00:15:27.373> each<00:15:27.533> other<00:15:27.774> in<00:15:27.854> your<00:15:28.158> own<00:15:28.575> department,<00:15:29.072> you<00:15:29.200> can<00:15:29.361> only<00:15:29.537> gift<00:15:29.778> people<00:15:30.098> who<00:15:30.162> are<00:15:30.740> outside<00:15:31.044> their,<00:15:31.525> you<00:15:31.557> know,<00:15:31.701> your<00:15:31.862> department<00:15:32.567> and<00:15:32.808> doing<00:15:33.048> something<00:15:33.385> that's<00:15:33.689> really<00:15:34.010> out<00:15:34.090> of<00:15:34.170> the<00:15:34.250> norm,<00:15:35.373> um,<00:15:35.549> that's<00:15:35.790> out<00:15:35.886> of<00:15:35.966> their<00:15:36.126> job,<00:15:37.152> you<00:15:37.232> know,<00:15:37.329> spec,<00:15:37.938> but<00:15:38.114> they<00:15:38.258> just<00:15:38.435> did<00:15:38.595> it<00:15:38.820> out<00:15:38.852> of<00:15:38.980> the<00:15:39.060> kindness<00:15:39.477> of<00:15:39.541> their<00:15:39.701> hearts.

00:15:40.038 --> 00:15:46.546
And<00:15:40.134> so<00:15:40.503> we<00:15:40.663> actually<00:15:41.625> help<00:15:42.427> our<00:15:44.046> employees<00:15:44.767> actually<00:15:45.088> gift<00:15:45.729> that<00:15:45.953> to<00:15:46.130> each<00:15:46.354> other.

00:15:46.931 --> 00:15:52.670
And<00:15:47.027> it's<00:15:47.172> not<00:15:47.396> a<00:15:47.412> lot,<00:15:47.797> you<00:15:47.829> know,<00:15:48.037> it's,<00:15:48.278> you<00:15:48.374> know,<00:15:48.518> $20<00:15:49.095> gift<00:15:49.255> certificate<00:15:49.961> for<00:15:50.137> Amazon<00:15:51.564> or<00:15:51.660> something<00:15:52.045> of<00:15:52.077> that<00:15:52.285> nature.

00:15:53.423 --> 00:16:06.808
But<00:15:53.584> what<00:15:53.744> it<00:15:53.824> does<00:15:54.081> is<00:15:54.225> it<00:15:54.289> creates,<00:15:54.946> and<00:15:55.010> what<00:15:55.251> we<00:15:55.347> hope<00:15:55.667> cultivates,<00:15:56.453> an<00:15:56.709> environment<00:15:57.271> where<00:15:58.056> wanting<00:15:58.312> to<00:15:58.457> be<00:15:58.617> good<00:15:58.777> to<00:15:58.954> each<00:15:59.178> other<00:16:00.637> builds<00:16:00.941> an<00:16:01.022> environment<00:16:01.518> where<00:16:01.759> it<00:16:01.903> helps<00:16:02.160> us<00:16:02.320> think<00:16:02.496> about<00:16:02.721> being<00:16:02.945> kind<00:16:04.083> overall<00:16:04.404> to<00:16:04.548> each<00:16:04.708> other<00:16:04.965> and<00:16:05.125> also<00:16:05.366> to<00:16:05.526> our<00:16:05.590> customers<00:16:06.472> as<00:16:06.568> well.

00:16:07.049 --> 00:16:17.028
And<00:16:07.145> it's<00:16:07.289> a<00:16:07.369> very,<00:16:07.690> very<00:16:07.931> small<00:16:08.716> cost,<00:16:09.758> but<00:16:09.854> it<00:16:10.079> actually<00:16:10.976> creates<00:16:12.098> a<00:16:12.323> tremendous<00:16:12.804> sort<00:16:12.916> of<00:16:13.060> work<00:16:13.237> environment<00:16:13.750> that<00:16:13.863> actually,<00:16:14.756> I<00:16:14.837> think,<00:16:15.389> helps<00:16:15.649> us<00:16:15.876> result<00:16:16.233> in<00:16:16.379> better<00:16:16.769> ROI.

00:16:18.002 --> 00:16:20.275
Just<00:16:18.473> kind<00:16:18.652> of<00:16:18.749> an<00:16:18.976> added<00:16:19.204> benefit<00:16:19.626> is<00:16:19.788> what<00:16:19.934> I've<00:16:20.048> seen.

00:16:21.504 --> 00:16:22.735
But<00:16:21.666> we<00:16:21.698> didn't<00:16:21.974> kind<00:16:22.152> of<00:16:22.298> ask<00:16:22.476> for<00:16:22.589> that.

00:16:22.800 --> 00:16:27.385
We<00:16:22.897> just<00:16:23.108> wanted<00:16:23.302> to<00:16:23.448> build<00:16:23.610> an<00:16:23.675> environment<00:16:24.161> that<00:16:24.258> we<00:16:24.420> think<00:16:24.663> is<00:16:24.825> the<00:16:24.971> right<00:16:25.149> thing<00:16:25.457> for<00:16:26.105> building<00:16:26.364> products<00:16:26.753> for<00:16:26.834> our<00:16:26.931> customers.

00:16:28.650 --> 00:16:32.032
How<00:16:28.699> do<00:16:28.829> you<00:16:28.944> decide<00:16:30.463> where<00:16:30.725> to<00:16:30.823> spend<00:16:31.199> your<00:16:31.362> time<00:16:31.705> each<00:16:31.934> day?

00:16:34.347 --> 00:16:35.375
Yeah,<00:16:34.604> that's<00:16:34.780> a<00:16:34.845> good<00:16:34.989> question.

00:16:36.371 --> 00:16:43.649
Because<00:16:36.692> if<00:16:36.917> I<00:16:37.174> really<00:16:37.480> just<00:16:37.737> wrote<00:16:37.978> everything<00:16:38.395> down,<00:16:38.620> I<00:16:38.701> feel<00:16:39.006> like<00:16:39.343> I<00:16:39.649> would<00:16:39.906> have<00:16:40.388> a<00:16:40.548> list<00:16:40.934> of<00:16:41.609> 60<00:16:42.075> things,<00:16:42.396> and<00:16:42.541> I<00:16:42.701> get<00:16:42.814> super,<00:16:43.103> super<00:16:43.440> overwhelmed.

00:16:45.667 --> 00:17:06.900
And<00:16:45.763> so<00:16:46.709> the<00:16:46.806> way<00:16:46.966> that<00:16:47.110> I<00:16:47.207> think<00:16:47.527> about<00:16:48.409> what<00:16:48.586> to<00:16:48.714> work<00:16:48.891> on<00:16:48.971> every<00:16:49.291> day<00:16:49.612> is<00:16:49.773> I<00:16:49.853> just<00:16:50.173> really—<00:16:50.815> I<00:16:50.975> think<00:16:51.200> like<00:16:51.376> most<00:16:51.553> CEOs<00:16:52.098> that<00:16:52.258> listen<00:16:52.563> to<00:16:52.643> your<00:16:52.820> podcast<00:16:53.461> and<00:16:53.605> folks<00:16:53.926> who<00:16:54.006> listen<00:16:54.343> to<00:16:54.439> this<00:16:54.616> great<00:16:54.808> podcast<00:16:55.867> is<00:16:56.348> what<00:16:56.508> is<00:16:56.733> literally<00:16:57.631> the<00:16:57.711> thing<00:16:58.016> that's<00:16:58.192> going<00:16:58.369> to<00:16:58.914> make<00:16:59.138> the<00:16:59.235> single<00:16:59.571> most<00:17:00.357> impact<00:17:01.480> for<00:17:01.624> the<00:17:01.720> day<00:17:02.121> in<00:17:02.266> terms<00:17:02.827> of<00:17:02.939> helping<00:17:03.308> the<00:17:03.404> company,<00:17:03.885> helping<00:17:04.190> our<00:17:04.286> customers,<00:17:05.890> and<00:17:05.970> helping<00:17:06.355> our<00:17:06.419> employees.

00:17:07.414 --> 00:17:09.899
And<00:17:07.494> so<00:17:07.654> what<00:17:07.814> are<00:17:07.879> the<00:17:07.975> 3<00:17:08.231> most<00:17:08.456> impactful<00:17:08.937> things<00:17:09.178> I<00:17:09.242> can<00:17:09.370> do<00:17:09.723> today?

00:17:10.477 --> 00:17:18.045
If<00:17:10.605> I<00:17:10.701> look<00:17:10.878> at<00:17:11.166> the<00:17:11.327> list<00:17:11.503> of<00:17:11.583> things<00:17:11.888> I<00:17:11.904> need<00:17:12.064> to<00:17:12.225> do<00:17:12.449> in<00:17:13.027> one<00:17:13.203> day,<00:17:13.668> I<00:17:13.828> really<00:17:14.133> go<00:17:14.245> through<00:17:14.470> this<00:17:14.630> list<00:17:14.871> and<00:17:15.015> think,<00:17:15.737> what<00:17:15.897> are<00:17:15.929> the<00:17:16.169> 3<00:17:16.811> single<00:17:17.195> most<00:17:17.436> impactful<00:17:17.901> things?

00:17:18.141 --> 00:17:30.180
Because<00:17:18.574> if<00:17:18.702> I'm<00:17:19.424> honest<00:17:19.664> with<00:17:19.824> myself,<00:17:21.123> I<00:17:21.203> can<00:17:21.363> 100%<00:17:22.085> deliver<00:17:22.469> on<00:17:23.271> 3<00:17:23.511> top<00:17:23.832> things<00:17:24.329> and<00:17:24.489> then<00:17:24.794> maybe<00:17:25.114> deliver<00:17:25.675> on<00:17:26.252> maybe<00:17:26.477> 75%,<00:17:27.615> you<00:17:27.695> know,<00:17:28.240> 80%<00:17:28.513> of<00:17:28.737> the<00:17:28.977> other<00:17:29.218> things,<00:17:29.923> right?

00:17:30.725 --> 00:17:40.519
And<00:17:30.821> so,<00:17:31.783> and<00:17:32.119> some<00:17:32.344> of<00:17:32.424> these<00:17:32.600> I<00:17:32.664> kind<00:17:32.889> of<00:17:32.921> had<00:17:33.145> to<00:17:33.209> whittle<00:17:33.466> down,<00:17:34.027> but<00:17:34.251> I<00:17:34.348> do<00:17:34.508> try<00:17:34.748> to<00:17:34.845> focus<00:17:35.309> on<00:17:35.390> trying<00:17:35.646> to<00:17:35.694> accomplish<00:17:36.432> like<00:17:36.736> 3<00:17:37.089> sort<00:17:37.297> of<00:17:37.393> significant<00:17:37.954> things<00:17:38.355> a<00:17:38.435> day<00:17:39.317> that<00:17:39.541> will<00:17:39.702> make<00:17:39.878> those<00:17:40.118> impacts.

00:17:40.599 --> 00:17:47.599
And<00:17:40.824> always<00:17:41.241> again,<00:17:41.481> focused<00:17:42.026> on<00:17:42.507> what<00:17:42.683> is<00:17:42.924> going<00:17:43.148> to<00:17:43.324> be<00:17:43.789> really<00:17:44.046> impactful<00:17:44.527> for<00:17:45.232> my<00:17:45.328> shareholders,<00:17:46.210> my<00:17:46.354> customers,<00:17:47.096> and<00:17:47.204> my<00:17:47.348> employees.

00:17:49.578 --> 00:17:55.105
What<00:17:49.739> are<00:17:49.771> you<00:17:49.915> reading<00:17:50.237> these<00:17:50.397> days,<00:17:50.799> or<00:17:50.960> what,<00:17:51.345> uh,<00:17:51.667> reading,<00:17:52.309> uh,<00:17:52.470> book<00:17:52.647> recommendation<00:17:53.209> would<00:17:53.370> you<00:17:53.450> give<00:17:53.691> to,<00:17:54.238> uh,<00:17:54.495> our<00:17:54.655> community?

00:17:56.969 --> 00:17:58.399
Yeah,<00:17:57.226> that's<00:17:57.403> a<00:17:57.532> really<00:17:57.708> good<00:17:57.853> question.

00:17:58.516 --> 00:18:06.147
So<00:17:59.161> I<00:17:59.806> am<00:18:00.290> one<00:18:00.452> of<00:18:00.532> those<00:18:00.774> people,<00:18:01.210> I'm<00:18:01.355> not<00:18:01.516> gonna<00:18:01.694> lie,<00:18:02.388> I<00:18:03.130> am<00:18:03.210> reading<00:18:03.694> multiple<00:18:04.178> things<00:18:04.566> concurrently<00:18:05.292> at<00:18:05.372> the<00:18:05.469> same<00:18:05.776> time.

00:18:06.760 --> 00:18:13.466
And<00:18:06.921> so,<00:18:07.712> um,<00:18:08.131> I<00:18:08.277> am<00:18:08.454> reading<00:18:08.778> a<00:18:08.858> few<00:18:09.166> things<00:18:09.424> that<00:18:09.489> I<00:18:09.651> really<00:18:09.974> enjoy,<00:18:11.203> and<00:18:11.284> some<00:18:11.591> are<00:18:12.076> I'm<00:18:12.254> rereading<00:18:13.046> as<00:18:13.207> well.

00:18:14.097 --> 00:18:21.951
Um,<00:18:14.274> so<00:18:14.598> something<00:18:15.083> new<00:18:15.325> that,<00:18:15.729> you<00:18:15.826> know,<00:18:16.532> Well,<00:18:16.693> something<00:18:17.077> that<00:18:17.318> I've<00:18:17.478> read<00:18:17.719> before<00:18:18.215> that<00:18:18.456> I'm,<00:18:18.921> you<00:18:18.953> know,<00:18:19.177> reading,<00:18:19.818> rereading<00:18:21.405> is<00:18:21.582> Nudge.

00:18:22.784 --> 00:18:24.083
It's<00:18:23.025> by<00:18:23.409> Richard<00:18:23.746> Thaler.

00:18:24.772 --> 00:18:39.728
And<00:18:24.884> so<00:18:25.189> it<00:18:25.269> talks<00:18:25.653> about<00:18:25.910> how<00:18:26.295> you<00:18:26.471> can<00:18:26.695> put<00:18:27.096> sort<00:18:27.273> of<00:18:27.353> behavioral<00:18:27.994> economics<00:18:28.795> and<00:18:28.956> things<00:18:29.276> in<00:18:29.356> place<00:18:30.543> and<00:18:31.280> help<00:18:31.665> influence<00:18:32.226> how<00:18:32.466> you<00:18:32.562> think<00:18:32.803> about<00:18:33.140> sort<00:18:33.348> of,<00:18:34.005> you<00:18:34.085> know,<00:18:34.951> things<00:18:35.207> being<00:18:35.384> done<00:18:35.592> for<00:18:35.672> your<00:18:35.768> customers,<00:18:36.730> the<00:18:36.794> environment<00:18:37.355> that<00:18:37.532> one<00:18:37.756> needs<00:18:37.933> to<00:18:38.013> be<00:18:38.333> in<00:18:38.734> and<00:18:38.958> all<00:18:39.055> of<00:18:39.135> those<00:18:39.439> things.

00:18:39.776 --> 00:18:45.867
And<00:18:39.936> so<00:18:40.818> it's<00:18:41.058> just<00:18:41.315> a<00:18:41.459> very<00:18:41.844> interesting<00:18:42.565> book<00:18:43.126> about<00:18:43.527> sort<00:18:43.703> of,<00:18:43.864> you<00:18:43.960> know,<00:18:44.104> he<00:18:44.248> calls<00:18:44.505> them<00:18:44.809> like<00:18:45.050> nudge<00:18:45.371> units.

00:18:46.429 --> 00:18:52.868
And<00:18:46.525> so<00:18:46.990> it<00:18:47.230> basically<00:18:47.855> does<00:18:48.192> like<00:18:48.594> it's<00:18:49.317> sort<00:18:49.494> of<00:18:49.638> done<00:18:49.879> by<00:18:50.120> behavioral<00:18:51.020> scientists<00:18:51.791> in<00:18:51.888> every<00:18:52.129> part<00:18:52.305> of<00:18:52.370> the<00:18:52.434> economy.

00:18:53.880 --> 00:19:07.569
I<00:18:53.976> think<00:18:54.201> my<00:18:54.362> husband<00:18:55.165> being<00:18:55.904> architecturally<00:18:56.467> trained,<00:18:56.852> they<00:18:56.949> talk<00:18:57.190> about,<00:18:57.495> you<00:18:57.591> know,<00:18:57.736> where<00:18:57.897> exactly<00:18:58.395> do<00:18:58.459> you<00:18:58.555> place<00:18:58.941> sort<00:18:59.102> of<00:18:59.182> like<00:18:59.359> recycling<00:18:59.841> cans<00:19:00.708> so<00:19:00.885> that<00:19:01.431> in<00:19:01.512> an<00:19:01.753> architectural<00:19:02.315> environment<00:19:03.215> or<00:19:03.440> built<00:19:03.681> in<00:19:03.777> certain<00:19:04.179> things<00:19:04.886> to<00:19:05.143> sort<00:19:05.368> of<00:19:06.091> cause<00:19:06.364> a<00:19:06.428> behavior<00:19:06.910> that<00:19:07.055> you<00:19:07.151> want<00:19:07.280> to<00:19:07.392> see.

00:19:07.874 --> 00:19:24.861
And<00:19:07.955> so<00:19:08.212> certainly,<00:19:08.983> you<00:19:09.015> know,<00:19:09.320> nudge<00:19:09.642> is<00:19:09.722> something<00:19:10.043> we<00:19:10.188> think<00:19:10.381> about,<00:19:10.670> like<00:19:11.152> how<00:19:11.264> do<00:19:11.329> we<00:19:11.489> build<00:19:11.746> our<00:19:11.875> hardware<00:19:12.212> products<00:19:12.759> and<00:19:12.855> software<00:19:13.257> products<00:19:13.658> to<00:19:13.739> basically<00:19:14.847> push<00:19:15.569> for<00:19:15.746> behavior<00:19:16.291> that<00:19:16.387> we<00:19:16.548> hope<00:19:16.805> to<00:19:16.885> see<00:19:17.976> from<00:19:18.939> the<00:19:19.036> caretakers<00:19:20.143> and<00:19:20.961> the<00:19:21.363> folks<00:19:21.668> who<00:19:21.700> are<00:19:21.828> being<00:19:22.085> taken<00:19:22.406> care<00:19:22.646> of<00:19:22.743> for<00:19:23.609> the<00:19:23.690> products<00:19:24.091> that<00:19:24.251> we<00:19:24.412> are<00:19:24.556> building.

00:19:25.616 --> 00:19:26.546
I<00:19:25.856> think<00:19:26.001> that's<00:19:26.177> one<00:19:26.338> thing.

00:19:26.739 --> 00:19:32.886
And<00:19:26.819> then<00:19:27.124> one<00:19:27.301> that<00:19:27.606> I<00:19:27.782> am<00:19:28.087> just<00:19:28.408> starting<00:19:28.809> to<00:19:28.986> read<00:19:29.210> that<00:19:29.371> I<00:19:29.387> quite<00:19:29.868> like<00:19:30.045> so<00:19:30.270> far<00:19:30.896> is<00:19:31.473> Leaders<00:19:32.019> Eat<00:19:32.356> Last.

00:19:33.560 --> 00:19:43.895
And<00:19:33.704> so<00:19:34.426> it's<00:19:34.667> really<00:19:34.988> about—<00:19:35.405> and<00:19:35.486> he<00:19:35.646> uses<00:19:35.983> examples<00:19:36.593> about,<00:19:37.010> you<00:19:37.106> know,<00:19:38.455> and<00:19:38.519> I<00:19:38.615> think<00:19:38.776> the<00:19:38.920> reasons<00:19:39.321> why<00:19:39.562> he<00:19:39.722> used<00:19:39.899> that<00:19:40.043> term<00:19:40.284> was<00:19:40.396> that,<00:19:40.766> you<00:19:40.798> know,<00:19:41.022> basically<00:19:41.648> officers<00:19:42.066> in<00:19:42.146> the<00:19:42.226> military<00:19:42.788> eat<00:19:42.900> last.

00:19:44.473 --> 00:19:48.586
Because<00:19:45.019> they<00:19:45.260> want<00:19:45.437> their<00:19:45.582> troops<00:19:45.919> to<00:19:46.064> be<00:19:46.160> successful<00:19:46.803> and<00:19:46.947> they<00:19:47.445> let<00:19:47.606> the<00:19:47.686> troops<00:19:48.008> eat<00:19:48.232> first.

00:19:49.293 --> 00:19:57.100
And<00:19:49.389> so<00:19:49.855> how<00:19:50.096> do<00:19:50.321> you<00:19:50.417> be<00:19:50.739> a<00:19:50.803> better<00:19:51.140> leader<00:19:51.703> in<00:19:51.847> terms<00:19:52.490> of<00:19:52.650> helping<00:19:53.068> your<00:19:53.229> team<00:19:54.257> and<00:19:54.337> helping<00:19:54.659> your<00:19:54.755> business<00:19:54.996> succeed<00:19:56.602> as<00:19:56.747> a<00:19:56.763> leader?

00:19:57.406 --> 00:20:07.350
And<00:19:57.486> so<00:19:57.647> that's<00:19:57.952> been<00:19:58.064> sort<00:19:58.289> of<00:19:58.434> a<00:19:58.450> very<00:19:58.771> interesting<00:19:59.414> read<00:20:00.121> because<00:20:00.362> it<00:20:00.442> talks<00:20:00.699> about<00:20:00.940> how—<00:20:01.567> why<00:20:01.743> some<00:20:02.048> teams,<00:20:02.546> you<00:20:02.627> know,<00:20:02.884> sort<00:20:03.093> of<00:20:03.253> pull<00:20:03.414> together<00:20:03.735> better<00:20:04.057> versus<00:20:04.458> not<00:20:06.145> using<00:20:06.498> that<00:20:06.788> sort<00:20:06.900> of<00:20:06.964> framework.

00:20:07.768 --> 00:20:09.326
And<00:20:07.832> so<00:20:07.928> that's<00:20:08.153> been<00:20:08.250> really<00:20:08.635> interesting<00:20:09.053> as<00:20:09.213> well.

00:20:09.840 --> 00:20:11.093
Is<00:20:09.936> that<00:20:10.097> Simon<00:20:10.579> Sinek?

00:20:11.452 --> 00:20:13.861
Mink,<00:20:11.780> who<00:20:12.370> wrote<00:20:12.861> The<00:20:13.025> Leaders<00:20:13.353> Eat<00:20:13.517> Last?

Yes.

00:20:16.376 --> 00:20:16.586
Yeah.

00:20:16.876 --> 00:20:17.376
Yeah.

00:20:17.747 --> 00:20:19.877
I<00:20:17.780> don't<00:20:17.989> know<00:20:18.151> that<00:20:18.248> I've<00:20:18.393> read<00:20:18.570> that,<00:20:18.732> but<00:20:18.828> I've<00:20:18.974> definitely<00:20:19.280> heard<00:20:19.458> of<00:20:19.538> that<00:20:19.764> book.

00:20:19.942 --> 00:20:21.684
That's<00:20:20.829> super<00:20:21.233> interesting.

00:20:22.281 --> 00:20:31.463
Is<00:20:22.443> there<00:20:22.911> a<00:20:23.088> singular<00:20:23.798> experience<00:20:24.930> or<00:20:25.255> moment<00:20:25.742> that<00:20:25.905> you<00:20:26.002> can<00:20:26.165> point<00:20:26.490> to<00:20:27.367> where<00:20:28.749> your<00:20:29.009> view<00:20:29.334> was<00:20:29.578> changed<00:20:30.163> of<00:20:30.293> what<00:20:30.456> it<00:20:30.553> means<00:20:30.862> to<00:20:30.959> be<00:20:31.041> a<00:20:31.203> leader?

00:20:34.350 --> 00:20:34.685
Hmm.

00:20:35.875 --> 00:20:35.992
Yeah.

00:20:38.749 --> 00:20:39.614
Yeah,<00:20:39.005> absolutely.

00:20:39.887 --> 00:20:56.125
I<00:20:39.903> mean,<00:20:40.833> you<00:20:40.929> know,<00:20:41.826> throughout<00:20:42.147> my<00:20:42.291> career<00:20:42.692> I've<00:20:43.333> been<00:20:43.494> through<00:20:44.135> a<00:20:44.199> heck<00:20:44.439> of<00:20:44.536> a<00:20:44.600> lot<00:20:44.792> of<00:20:44.856> startups,<00:20:46.379> and<00:20:46.539> so<00:20:47.405> I<00:20:47.501> think<00:20:47.998> some<00:20:48.287> of<00:20:48.367> the<00:20:48.463> hardest<00:20:48.944> things<00:20:49.345> that<00:20:49.729> one<00:20:49.890> has<00:20:50.146> to<00:20:50.290> do<00:20:50.691> is<00:20:50.948> that<00:20:51.252> when<00:20:51.413> you're<00:20:51.653> a<00:20:51.669> startup,<00:20:53.096> you<00:20:53.192> really<00:20:53.577> hire<00:20:54.314> people<00:20:55.436> in<00:20:55.596> many<00:20:55.901> ways.

00:20:56.302 --> 00:20:59.908
You<00:20:56.334> know,<00:20:56.478> when<00:20:56.558> you<00:20:56.654> look<00:20:56.863> at<00:20:56.911> startups,<00:20:57.440> people<00:20:57.760> hire<00:20:58.225> their<00:20:58.322> friends<00:20:59.107> to<00:20:59.203> build<00:20:59.428> startups.

00:21:00.806 --> 00:21:10.553
And<00:21:00.966> so,<00:21:02.089> but<00:21:02.185> it's<00:21:02.473> also<00:21:02.810> one<00:21:03.034> of—<00:21:03.195> it's<00:21:03.371> both<00:21:03.531> sort<00:21:03.772> of<00:21:03.852> the<00:21:03.996> pluses<00:21:04.653> because<00:21:05.134> you<00:21:05.279> have<00:21:05.439> second<00:21:05.840> hands<00:21:06.160> with<00:21:06.272> each<00:21:06.497> other<00:21:07.058> and<00:21:07.122> you<00:21:07.282> understand<00:21:07.779> how<00:21:08.100> each<00:21:08.260> other<00:21:08.581> sort<00:21:08.950> think<00:21:09.126> and<00:21:09.366> operate<00:21:09.687> in<00:21:09.783> many,<00:21:10.007> many<00:21:10.248> ways.

00:21:11.226 --> 00:21:15.233
And<00:21:11.386> so<00:21:11.707> it<00:21:11.787> makes<00:21:12.172> you<00:21:12.428> run<00:21:12.668> faster<00:21:13.214> and<00:21:13.390> be<00:21:13.550> better<00:21:14.592> at<00:21:14.672> what<00:21:14.897> you<00:21:14.993> do.

00:21:15.634 --> 00:21:20.283
And<00:21:15.778> so<00:21:15.875> that's<00:21:16.179> why<00:21:16.420> you<00:21:16.516> see<00:21:16.740> a<00:21:16.756> lot<00:21:16.933> of<00:21:16.997> startups<00:21:17.638> that<00:21:18.023> actually<00:21:18.503> are<00:21:18.696> typically<00:21:19.161> built<00:21:19.321> by<00:21:19.481> a<00:21:19.561> team<00:21:19.786> of<00:21:19.882> people.

00:21:21.004 --> 00:21:31.841
But<00:21:21.164> what<00:21:21.469> also<00:21:22.046> I've<00:21:22.271> learned<00:21:22.591> is<00:21:22.671> that<00:21:23.248> that<00:21:23.489> is<00:21:23.713> also<00:21:24.130> one<00:21:24.274> of<00:21:24.354> the<00:21:24.531> major<00:21:25.012> points<00:21:25.236> of<00:21:25.332> failure,<00:21:25.974> because<00:21:26.214> if<00:21:26.278> you<00:21:26.374> look<00:21:26.615> at<00:21:26.695> basically<00:21:27.240> why<00:21:27.416> startups<00:21:28.057> fail,<00:21:28.538> a<00:21:28.618> lot<00:21:28.859> of<00:21:28.923> times<00:21:29.340> it's<00:21:29.500> about<00:21:29.741> basically<00:21:30.286> what<00:21:30.462> we<00:21:30.542> call<00:21:30.783> founder<00:21:31.263> divorce.

00:21:32.546 --> 00:21:42.697
And<00:21:32.626> so<00:21:32.802> you<00:21:32.947> don't<00:21:33.107> start<00:21:33.428> a<00:21:33.508> company<00:21:33.973> with<00:21:34.149> people<00:21:34.534> you<00:21:34.614> don't<00:21:34.870> love<00:21:35.255> and<00:21:35.415> like<00:21:35.736> and<00:21:35.832> want<00:21:35.960> to<00:21:36.008> spend<00:21:36.393> buttloads<00:21:36.794> of<00:21:36.874> time<00:21:37.114> with,<00:21:37.275> because<00:21:37.996> hell,<00:21:38.237> it's<00:21:38.541> like<00:21:38.894> sometimes<00:21:39.343> you<00:21:39.439> spend<00:21:39.679> more<00:21:39.840> time<00:21:40.160> with<00:21:40.304> your<00:21:40.481> co-workers<00:21:40.850> coworkers<00:21:41.107> than<00:21:41.267> you<00:21:41.364> do<00:21:41.524> with<00:21:41.669> your<00:21:41.765> spouse,<00:21:42.408> right?

00:21:43.291 --> 00:21:48.415
And<00:21:43.452> so,<00:21:43.853> but<00:21:43.950> it's<00:21:44.319> also<00:21:44.721> exactly<00:21:45.235> sort<00:21:45.443> of<00:21:45.604> what<00:21:46.263> rips<00:21:46.504> those,<00:21:46.953> you<00:21:47.002> know,<00:21:47.307> relationships<00:21:48.030> apart.

00:21:48.511 --> 00:21:58.422
And<00:21:48.592> so<00:21:49.074> I<00:21:49.154> would<00:21:49.250> say<00:21:49.459> fundamentally<00:21:50.182> one<00:21:50.294> of<00:21:50.375> the<00:21:50.503> hardest<00:21:50.905> things<00:21:51.162> I've<00:21:51.242> had<00:21:51.547> to<00:21:51.628> do<00:21:51.885> was<00:21:52.045> to<00:21:52.206> basically<00:21:52.688> let<00:21:53.893> somebody<00:21:54.439> on<00:21:54.535> a<00:21:54.599> leadership<00:21:55.081> team<00:21:55.322> go<00:21:55.499> that<00:21:55.643> had<00:21:55.820> been<00:21:55.981> a<00:21:56.061> friend<00:21:56.302> of<00:21:57.025> decades,<00:21:58.213> right?

00:21:59.033 --> 00:22:08.879
And<00:21:59.193> so<00:21:59.916> not<00:22:00.077> because<00:22:00.398> I<00:22:00.478> didn't<00:22:00.703> think<00:22:00.944> that<00:22:01.121> that<00:22:01.281> person<00:22:01.683> was,<00:22:02.245> you<00:22:02.326> know,<00:22:02.566> an<00:22:02.711> amazing,<00:22:03.434> amazing<00:22:04.012> individual<00:22:04.574> that<00:22:04.815> I<00:22:04.976> admire<00:22:05.683> and<00:22:06.406> love<00:22:06.968> and<00:22:07.128> think<00:22:07.369> is,<00:22:08.012> you<00:22:08.044> know,<00:22:08.188> think<00:22:08.349> the<00:22:08.494> world<00:22:08.815> of.

00:22:09.860 --> 00:22:18.040
But<00:22:10.037> because<00:22:10.989> fundamentally<00:22:11.877> that<00:22:11.973> fit<00:22:12.877> for<00:22:13.248> where<00:22:13.426> the<00:22:13.506> company's<00:22:13.910> going,<00:22:14.297> the<00:22:14.394> vision<00:22:14.797> of<00:22:14.878> where<00:22:15.039> the<00:22:15.184> company<00:22:15.523> is<00:22:15.685> going,<00:22:16.491> isn't<00:22:17.201> a<00:22:17.298> good<00:22:17.702> match.

00:22:18.573 --> 00:22:24.386
And<00:22:18.654> you<00:22:18.750> won't<00:22:18.912> really<00:22:19.090> know<00:22:19.414> that<00:22:19.641> until<00:22:19.965> typically<00:22:20.434> you<00:22:20.531> bring<00:22:20.758> that<00:22:20.855> person<00:22:21.244> on<00:22:21.341> board<00:22:21.665> and<00:22:21.730> you<00:22:21.827> start<00:22:22.216> operating<00:22:22.620> together<00:22:23.058> and<00:22:23.187> you<00:22:23.268> start<00:22:23.608> working<00:22:23.932> together.

00:22:25.060 --> 00:22:36.471
And<00:22:25.156> so<00:22:25.334> one<00:22:25.495> of<00:22:25.560> the<00:22:25.656> fundamental<00:22:26.285> things<00:22:26.527> I<00:22:26.624> learned<00:22:26.866> is<00:22:26.947> that,<00:22:27.657> you<00:22:27.689> know,<00:22:27.818> you<00:22:27.915> can't—<00:22:29.350> you<00:22:29.447> know,<00:22:29.673> you<00:22:29.754> can,<00:22:30.157> you<00:22:30.254> can<00:22:30.480> sort<00:22:30.721> of—<00:22:32.754> what<00:22:32.899> you<00:22:32.980> can't<00:22:33.302> do,<00:22:33.544> you<00:22:33.641> can,<00:22:34.190> you<00:22:34.286> can<00:22:34.464> sort<00:22:34.674> of<00:22:34.900> build<00:22:34.990> a<00:22:35.008> company<00:22:35.973> on<00:22:36.118> that.

00:22:36.615 --> 00:22:45.061
And<00:22:36.840> but<00:22:37.081> you<00:22:37.161> can't<00:22:37.723> actually,<00:22:38.285> as<00:22:38.462> a<00:22:38.478> leader,<00:22:39.570> you<00:22:39.602> know,<00:22:40.613> make<00:22:40.790> it<00:22:40.935> difficult<00:22:41.304> for<00:22:41.497> yourself<00:22:41.834> to<00:22:41.930> say<00:22:42.235> like,<00:22:42.556> look,<00:22:42.717> because<00:22:42.958> this<00:22:43.199> person's<00:22:43.520> a<00:22:43.600> friend,<00:22:44.066> you<00:22:44.162> can't<00:22:44.467> let<00:22:44.644> them<00:22:44.804> go.

00:22:45.992 --> 00:22:50.472
I<00:22:46.008> mean,<00:22:46.249> I<00:22:46.330> think<00:22:46.554> you<00:22:46.651> have<00:22:46.875> to<00:22:46.972> do<00:22:47.052> it<00:22:47.213> with<00:22:47.437> empathy,<00:22:47.775> you<00:22:47.919> have<00:22:48.096> to<00:22:48.192> do<00:22:48.337> it<00:22:48.417> the<00:22:48.497> right<00:22:48.738> way,<00:22:49.059> you<00:22:49.204> have<00:22:49.380> to<00:22:49.525> do<00:22:49.605> it<00:22:49.701> with<00:22:49.862> compassion.

00:22:50.585 --> 00:23:00.780
But<00:22:51.291> fundamentally,<00:22:52.431> one<00:22:52.592> of<00:22:52.672> the<00:22:52.752> biggest<00:22:53.057> challenges<00:22:53.700> is<00:22:53.796> that<00:22:53.956> when<00:22:54.101> you<00:22:54.278> build<00:22:54.502> a<00:22:54.518> startup,<00:22:55.707> like,<00:22:56.028> you<00:22:56.750> typically<00:22:57.328> like<00:22:57.666> everybody<00:22:58.195> you<00:22:58.292> work<00:22:58.533> with,<00:22:58.998> and<00:22:59.095> but<00:22:59.255> not<00:22:59.496> everybody<00:22:59.978> works<00:23:00.219> well<00:23:00.379> together.

00:23:01.888 --> 00:23:02.226
Right?

00:23:02.707 --> 00:23:09.130
And<00:23:02.788> so<00:23:03.028> that's<00:23:03.350> typically<00:23:03.735> the<00:23:03.831> hardest<00:23:04.393> thing<00:23:04.634> that<00:23:04.875> any<00:23:05.180> leader<00:23:05.437> needs<00:23:05.678> to<00:23:05.822> do<00:23:06.015> at<00:23:06.224> a<00:23:06.240> startup<00:23:06.657> environment,<00:23:07.283> and<00:23:07.444> the<00:23:07.605> thing<00:23:07.845> that's<00:23:08.070> the<00:23:08.167> hardest<00:23:08.648> thing<00:23:08.809> to<00:23:08.953> do.

00:23:10.093 --> 00:23:26.198
And<00:23:10.238> I<00:23:10.334> think<00:23:10.559> that<00:23:10.736> it's<00:23:10.960> one<00:23:11.121> that<00:23:11.282> we<00:23:11.442> are<00:23:11.683> all<00:23:11.860> constantly<00:23:12.422> learning<00:23:13.385> and<00:23:13.545> making<00:23:13.770> a<00:23:13.867> decision<00:23:14.332> on<00:23:14.413> how<00:23:14.589> fast—<00:23:15.055> how<00:23:15.151> much<00:23:15.376> faster<00:23:15.633> you<00:23:15.777> can<00:23:15.938> do<00:23:16.098> it<00:23:16.195> and<00:23:16.339> how<00:23:16.660> well<00:23:16.917> you<00:23:17.062> can<00:23:17.239> do<00:23:17.399> it<00:23:17.544> in<00:23:17.640> terms<00:23:17.977> of<00:23:18.122> like<00:23:18.282> having<00:23:18.603> some<00:23:19.246> level<00:23:19.454> of<00:23:19.486> compassion<00:23:20.289> to<00:23:20.370> ensure<00:23:20.932> that,<00:23:21.718> you<00:23:21.750> know,<00:23:22.055> that<00:23:22.312> sort<00:23:22.521> of<00:23:22.553> separation<00:23:23.404> is<00:23:23.581> one<00:23:23.822> that<00:23:24.063> hopefully<00:23:24.608> is<00:23:24.705> graceful<00:23:25.122> for<00:23:25.347> everybody<00:23:25.749> involved.

00:23:29.846 --> 00:23:37.331
Yeah,<00:23:30.251> in<00:23:30.348> some<00:23:30.509> ways<00:23:30.736> it<00:23:30.849> seems<00:23:31.140> like<00:23:31.317> you're,<00:23:31.625> you're<00:23:31.786> talking<00:23:32.013> about<00:23:32.190> the<00:23:32.287> subject<00:23:32.692> of<00:23:32.772> culture,<00:23:33.969> and<00:23:34.049> I<00:23:34.211> wonder,<00:23:35.262> how<00:23:35.440> do<00:23:35.504> you<00:23:35.601> define<00:23:36.070> culture<00:23:36.490> within<00:23:36.814> LogicMark?

00:23:39.316 --> 00:23:47.623
Yeah,<00:23:39.718> like,<00:23:39.878> I<00:23:39.959> think,<00:23:40.682> you<00:23:40.714> know,<00:23:41.019> I<00:23:41.099> came<00:23:41.565> out<00:23:41.726> of<00:23:41.822> the<00:23:41.967> tech<00:23:42.224> industry<00:23:43.011> where,<00:23:43.815> you<00:23:43.895> know,<00:23:44.232> I<00:23:44.377> will<00:23:44.618> honestly<00:23:44.956> say,<00:23:45.197> I<00:23:45.357> think<00:23:45.518> I<00:23:45.598> started<00:23:46.000> at<00:23:46.161> Wired<00:23:46.385> magazine<00:23:46.900> in<00:23:46.964> the<00:23:47.125> early<00:23:47.366> days.

00:23:47.687 --> 00:23:58.588
I<00:23:48.008> may<00:23:48.249> or<00:23:48.314> may<00:23:48.474> not<00:23:48.587> have<00:23:48.780> slept<00:23:49.297> at<00:23:49.524> work<00:23:49.782> and<00:23:50.009> done<00:23:50.170> my<00:23:50.268> laundry<00:23:50.817> at<00:23:50.914> work<00:23:51.222> and<00:23:51.319> ate<00:23:51.464> 3<00:23:51.642> meals<00:23:51.901> a<00:23:51.966> day<00:23:52.451> at<00:23:53.033> Um,<00:23:53.820> that<00:23:53.900> was<00:23:54.061> the<00:23:54.237> early<00:23:54.398> days<00:23:54.639> of<00:23:54.719> the<00:23:54.799> '20s,<00:23:55.281> and<00:23:55.425> let's<00:23:55.602> be<00:23:55.746> honest,<00:23:56.019> I<00:23:56.035> didn't<00:23:56.308> have<00:23:56.549> a<00:23:56.629> washing<00:23:56.967> machine<00:23:57.368> and<00:23:57.593> the<00:23:57.689> company<00:23:58.235> had<00:23:58.476> one.

00:23:58.652 --> 00:23:59.214
It<00:23:58.733> was<00:23:58.893> great.

00:23:59.921 --> 00:24:02.489
So<00:24:00.402> that<00:24:00.900> was<00:24:01.125> a<00:24:01.141> company<00:24:01.526> culture<00:24:01.863> in<00:24:02.024> itself.

00:24:02.650 --> 00:24:18.897
And,<00:24:02.971> you<00:24:03.003> know,<00:24:03.212> I<00:24:03.388> left<00:24:03.629> to<00:24:03.790> go<00:24:03.950> to<00:24:04.175> Audible,<00:24:05.074> and,<00:24:05.315> you<00:24:05.395> know,<00:24:05.636> and<00:24:05.797> we<00:24:05.877> went<00:24:06.037> to<00:24:06.182> Google,<00:24:06.599> and<00:24:06.760> they<00:24:06.985> all<00:24:07.145> have<00:24:07.964> extremely<00:24:08.381> strong<00:24:08.686> cultures<00:24:09.313> where<00:24:09.585> the<00:24:09.730> bonding<00:24:10.212> occurs<00:24:10.854> along<00:24:11.159> the<00:24:11.255> lines<00:24:11.657> of,<00:24:12.122> hey,<00:24:12.443> every<00:24:12.684> Thursday<00:24:13.085> we<00:24:13.246> have,<00:24:13.551> you<00:24:13.583> know,<00:24:13.824> cocktail<00:24:14.306> hours<00:24:14.611> with<00:24:14.723> each<00:24:14.932> other,<00:24:15.253> and<00:24:15.413> then<00:24:15.574> you're<00:24:15.750> sort<00:24:15.975> of<00:24:16.553> bonding<00:24:17.019> over<00:24:17.436> that<00:24:17.597> sort<00:24:17.854> of<00:24:17.918> shared<00:24:18.303> experience.

00:24:19.347 --> 00:24:29.522
And<00:24:19.507> as<00:24:19.668> I've<00:24:19.844> sort<00:24:20.229> of<00:24:20.390> grown<00:24:20.727> as<00:24:20.887> a<00:24:20.903> leader,<00:24:21.449> what<00:24:21.593> I<00:24:21.690> find<00:24:22.155> is<00:24:22.252> that<00:24:22.492> like<00:24:22.893> when<00:24:23.038> we<00:24:23.134> talk<00:24:23.375> about<00:24:23.552> culture,<00:24:24.194> it's<00:24:24.402> about,<00:24:25.285> you<00:24:25.317> know,<00:24:25.766> what<00:24:25.863> kind<00:24:26.039> of<00:24:26.103> grace<00:24:26.505> do<00:24:26.649> you<00:24:26.810> give<00:24:26.986> each<00:24:27.227> other<00:24:27.628> and<00:24:27.708> the<00:24:27.805> team<00:24:28.110> members<00:24:28.912> to<00:24:29.073> each<00:24:29.297> other?

00:24:30.036 --> 00:24:34.257
And<00:24:30.116> so<00:24:30.357> how<00:24:30.597> do<00:24:30.822> you<00:24:30.982> sort<00:24:31.175> of<00:24:31.303> treat<00:24:31.560> each<00:24:31.785> other<00:24:33.470> in<00:24:33.582> your<00:24:33.791> company?

00:24:34.674 --> 00:24:37.162
And<00:24:34.931> what<00:24:35.091> is<00:24:35.171> the<00:24:35.252> single<00:24:35.557> most<00:24:35.797> important<00:24:36.199> things<00:24:36.359> that<00:24:36.455> matter<00:24:36.776> to<00:24:37.001> you?

00:24:37.659 --> 00:24:44.095
So<00:24:37.820> for<00:24:37.964> example,<00:24:39.489> I<00:24:39.569> find<00:24:39.762> it<00:24:39.826> very<00:24:40.066> difficult,<00:24:40.628> I<00:24:40.708> think,<00:24:40.869> for<00:24:40.981> some<00:24:41.190> companies<00:24:41.655> that<00:24:41.752> talk<00:24:41.992> about<00:24:42.233> bonding<00:24:42.715> and<00:24:42.859> how<00:24:42.971> important<00:24:43.501> things<00:24:43.902> are.

00:24:45.042 --> 00:24:50.733
When<00:24:45.362> somebody<00:24:46.068> in<00:24:46.244> the<00:24:46.324> family<00:24:47.510> of<00:24:47.767> a<00:24:47.847> team<00:24:48.168> member<00:24:49.595> is<00:24:49.915> in<00:24:50.011> an<00:24:50.091> ICU.

00:24:51.438 --> 00:24:55.622
And<00:24:51.550> somehow<00:24:52.496> the<00:24:52.656> leader<00:24:52.897> thought<00:24:53.121> it<00:24:53.201> was<00:24:53.362> okay<00:24:53.779> that<00:24:53.939> they<00:24:54.179> must,<00:24:54.420> must,<00:24:54.660> must<00:24:54.901> join<00:24:55.125> that<00:24:55.286> call.

00:24:56.808 --> 00:25:08.752
And<00:24:58.363> my<00:24:58.508> question<00:24:58.908> is,<00:24:59.133> fundamentally,<00:24:59.934> who<00:25:00.095> wants<00:25:00.335> to<00:25:00.431> be<00:25:00.656> at<00:25:00.736> a<00:25:00.752> company<00:25:01.313> in<00:25:01.457> a<00:25:01.554> culture<00:25:02.035> that<00:25:02.195> basically<00:25:02.596> says<00:25:02.900> your<00:25:02.996> family<00:25:03.397> is<00:25:03.477> not<00:25:03.702> important<00:25:04.583> to<00:25:04.824> us<00:25:05.000> and<00:25:05.064> you're<00:25:05.177> not<00:25:05.385> important<00:25:05.706> to<00:25:05.802> us<00:25:05.962> as<00:25:06.042> a<00:25:06.122> person<00:25:06.459> because<00:25:06.684> that's<00:25:06.988> really<00:25:07.245> an<00:25:07.645> important<00:25:07.966> part<00:25:08.142> of<00:25:08.271> your<00:25:08.367> life?

00:25:11.574 --> 00:25:15.026
What<00:25:11.799> we<00:25:11.895> really<00:25:12.072> need<00:25:12.361> you<00:25:12.441> to<00:25:12.570> do<00:25:12.762> is<00:25:12.859> just<00:25:13.083> show<00:25:13.324> up<00:25:13.501> for<00:25:13.645> that,<00:25:14.705> right?

00:25:15.187 --> 00:25:31.066
And<00:25:15.283> so<00:25:15.733> you<00:25:15.813> can<00:25:15.925> spend<00:25:16.295> all<00:25:16.327> day,<00:25:16.937> all<00:25:16.969> day<00:25:17.097> long<00:25:17.435> talking<00:25:17.852> about<00:25:18.157> how<00:25:18.302> you<00:25:18.382> have<00:25:18.559> great<00:25:18.719> culture,<00:25:19.763> but<00:25:20.004> it's<00:25:20.164> how<00:25:20.469> you<00:25:20.630> treat<00:25:20.887> people<00:25:21.208> individually,<00:25:22.540> you<00:25:22.573> know,<00:25:22.797> when<00:25:22.974> they're<00:25:23.841> in<00:25:23.937> a<00:25:24.018> very<00:25:24.403> bad<00:25:24.644> situation,<00:25:26.009> you<00:25:26.041> know,<00:25:26.249> either<00:25:26.426> personally<00:25:27.293> or<00:25:27.373> professionally,<00:25:27.951> and<00:25:28.096> how<00:25:28.272> do<00:25:28.337> you<00:25:28.497> help<00:25:28.690> them<00:25:28.915> grow<00:25:29.477> and<00:25:29.621> how<00:25:29.798> do<00:25:29.846> you<00:25:29.958> help<00:25:30.199> them<00:25:30.360> surmount<00:25:30.841> that.

00:25:31.484 --> 00:25:39.794
And<00:25:31.628> sometimes<00:25:32.062> the<00:25:32.142> reality<00:25:32.688> is,<00:25:32.848> is<00:25:32.929> that,<00:25:33.635> you<00:25:33.667> know,<00:25:33.812> that<00:25:33.956> person<00:25:34.374> has<00:25:34.615> so<00:25:34.775> much<00:25:35.016> fundamental<00:25:35.594> issues<00:25:35.963> that<00:25:36.140> maybe<00:25:36.381> they<00:25:36.477> just<00:25:36.944> aren't<00:25:37.073> going<00:25:37.185> to<00:25:37.346> be,<00:25:37.894> you<00:25:38.007> know,<00:25:38.554> right<00:25:38.715> for<00:25:38.860> the<00:25:38.957> company<00:25:39.343> at<00:25:39.440> the<00:25:39.585> time.

00:25:40.003 --> 00:25:48.602
And<00:25:40.100> so<00:25:40.470> you<00:25:40.567> need<00:25:40.728> to<00:25:40.809> be<00:25:40.954> able<00:25:41.115> to<00:25:41.195> sort<00:25:41.372> of<00:25:41.404> see<00:25:41.694> that<00:25:42.499> and<00:25:42.580> say,<00:25:43.047> maybe<00:25:43.369> you<00:25:43.450> can't<00:25:43.707> be<00:25:43.868> a<00:25:43.933> good<00:25:44.094> hire<00:25:44.351> for<00:25:44.577> us<00:25:44.754> because<00:25:45.076> your,<00:25:45.881> you<00:25:45.930> know,<00:25:46.043> situation<00:25:46.772> is<00:25:46.934> not<00:25:47.177> compatible,<00:25:48.294> right?

00:25:50.400 --> 00:25:59.027
But<00:25:50.578> the<00:25:50.659> reality<00:25:51.145> is,<00:25:51.307> is<00:25:51.388> that,<00:25:51.696> you<00:25:51.777> know,<00:25:51.955> again,<00:25:52.360> most<00:25:52.619> of<00:25:52.684> the<00:25:52.781> time,<00:25:53.730> you<00:25:53.794> know,<00:25:53.843> we<00:25:54.069> all<00:25:54.230> have<00:25:54.634> a<00:25:54.650> little,<00:25:55.038> you<00:25:55.070> know,<00:25:55.296> we<00:25:55.393> show<00:25:55.635> each<00:25:55.845> other<00:25:55.958> grace<00:25:56.976> all<00:25:57.056> the<00:25:57.137> time<00:25:57.799> and<00:25:57.896> we<00:25:58.025> respect<00:25:58.526> each<00:25:58.752> other.

00:25:59.350 --> 00:26:15.465
I<00:25:59.414> always<00:25:59.656> tell<00:25:59.882> people<00:26:00.205> at<00:26:00.302> my<00:26:00.528> work,<00:26:00.755> I'm<00:26:00.868> like,<00:26:01.029> please<00:26:01.433> don't<00:26:01.820> check<00:26:02.224> email<00:26:03.063> You<00:26:03.144> know,<00:26:04.186> if<00:26:04.363> you—<00:26:04.571> and<00:26:05.309> honestly,<00:26:05.694> if<00:26:05.775> you<00:26:05.871> want,<00:26:06.112> if<00:26:06.336> you<00:26:06.432> cannot<00:26:06.818> help<00:26:07.138> it<00:26:07.235> because<00:26:07.620> it's<00:26:07.844> like<00:26:08.197> compulsion,<00:26:09.384> know<00:26:09.561> that<00:26:09.786> like<00:26:09.962> whatever<00:26:10.427> email<00:26:10.668> I<00:26:10.764> sent<00:26:11.069> you,<00:26:11.229> the<00:26:11.406> only<00:26:11.711> thing<00:26:12.032> that<00:26:12.272> I<00:26:12.369> would<00:26:12.529> ever,<00:26:12.930> ever<00:26:14.069> say<00:26:14.615> is<00:26:14.775> like<00:26:15.000> timely.

00:26:16.219 --> 00:26:23.936
And<00:26:16.363> so<00:26:16.845> if<00:26:16.925> I<00:26:17.101> really<00:26:17.342> need<00:26:17.647> you,<00:26:17.904> like<00:26:18.080> if<00:26:18.208> it's<00:26:18.449> some<00:26:18.626> kind<00:26:18.882> of<00:26:18.946> like<00:26:19.171> the<00:26:19.428> warehouse<00:26:19.925> is<00:26:20.069> burning<00:26:20.390> down,<00:26:20.888> I'm<00:26:21.032> gonna<00:26:21.273> call<00:26:21.658> you<00:26:21.754> and<00:26:22.380> you<00:26:22.540> won't<00:26:22.781> be<00:26:22.877> getting<00:26:23.118> an<00:26:23.342> email<00:26:23.535> from<00:26:23.743> me.

00:26:24.000 --> 00:26:27.177
But<00:26:24.161> otherwise,<00:26:24.866> you<00:26:24.963> know,<00:26:25.925> I<00:26:26.006> will<00:26:26.166> mark<00:26:26.326> something<00:26:26.647> like<00:26:26.808> timely.

00:26:27.289 --> 00:26:38.856
And<00:26:27.369> if<00:26:27.449> I<00:26:27.530> say<00:26:27.754> timely,<00:26:28.220> I'm<00:26:28.472> like,<00:26:28.492> please<00:26:28.797> look<00:26:28.957> at<00:26:29.054> tomorrow<00:26:29.375> morning,<00:26:30.642> you<00:26:30.722> know,<00:26:31.220> because<00:26:31.460> I<00:26:31.476> know<00:26:31.701> some<00:26:31.941> people,<00:26:32.888> like,<00:26:33.048> we<00:26:33.129> live<00:26:33.305> in<00:26:33.450> a<00:26:33.546> world<00:26:33.851> where<00:26:33.931> we're<00:26:34.252> all<00:26:34.348> trigger<00:26:34.733> happy<00:26:35.134> with<00:26:35.375> email<00:26:36.177> and<00:26:36.498> the<00:26:36.674> internet,<00:26:37.155> and<00:26:37.236> so<00:26:37.460> you<00:26:37.621> compulsively<00:26:38.279> check<00:26:38.583> email.

00:26:39.626 --> 00:26:43.220
Um,<00:26:40.364> but<00:26:40.669> I<00:26:40.765> don't<00:26:41.006> want<00:26:41.230> them<00:26:41.407> to<00:26:41.487> have<00:26:41.728> to<00:26:41.824> deal<00:26:42.033> with<00:26:42.273> it<00:26:42.610> if<00:26:42.690> they<00:26:42.787> don't<00:26:42.995> have<00:26:43.188> to.

00:26:43.316 --> 00:26:45.755
And<00:26:43.412> I<00:26:43.476> always<00:26:43.653> tell<00:26:43.813> people,<00:26:44.038> I'm<00:26:44.134> like,<00:26:44.375> there's<00:26:44.632> not<00:26:44.712> going<00:26:44.808> to<00:26:44.936> be<00:26:45.097> an<00:26:45.193> emergency.

00:26:45.819 --> 00:26:46.525
I'm<00:26:45.963> not<00:26:46.124> a<00:26:46.220> doctor.

00:26:46.621 --> 00:26:47.583
You're<00:26:46.781> not<00:26:46.942> a<00:26:47.022> doctor.

00:26:48.065 --> 00:26:54.434
There's<00:26:48.305> no<00:26:48.466> sort<00:26:48.642> of<00:26:48.787> beeper<00:26:49.172> here<00:26:49.493> that<00:26:50.070> we<00:26:50.150> should<00:26:50.311> be<00:26:50.471> traveling<00:26:51.017> to<00:26:51.177> because<00:26:52.332> somebody's<00:26:52.717> dying,<00:26:53.199> right,<00:26:53.904> without<00:26:54.241> us.

00:26:55.292 --> 00:26:58.496
I<00:26:55.357> think<00:26:55.535> people<00:26:56.587> just<00:26:56.781> don't<00:26:56.991> operate<00:26:57.315> that<00:26:57.476> way<00:26:57.622> for<00:26:57.784> most<00:26:57.962> tech<00:26:58.123> companies.

00:26:58.593 --> 00:27:10.295
And<00:26:58.690> so,<00:26:59.094> and<00:26:59.256> that's,<00:27:00.129> you<00:27:00.162> know,<00:27:00.259> respecting<00:27:00.793> other<00:27:00.954> people<00:27:01.262> have<00:27:01.602> family<00:27:01.925> lives<00:27:02.556> and,<00:27:03.138> you<00:27:03.300> know,<00:27:03.430> a<00:27:03.446> whole<00:27:03.689> other<00:27:04.923> world<00:27:05.247> that<00:27:05.410> you<00:27:05.507> don't<00:27:05.718> live<00:27:05.880> in,<00:27:06.611> you<00:27:06.643> know,<00:27:06.870> hopefully<00:27:07.357> that<00:27:07.584> you've<00:27:07.828> provided<00:27:08.250> them<00:27:08.412> the<00:27:08.493> space<00:27:08.802> that<00:27:08.915> they<00:27:09.061> can<00:27:09.224> live<00:27:09.386> in<00:27:09.467> that<00:27:09.694> world<00:27:09.873> without<00:27:10.197> you.

00:27:11.735 --> 00:27:14.134
So<00:27:12.420> what<00:27:12.584> were<00:27:12.747> those<00:27:12.943> days<00:27:13.318> at<00:27:13.416> Wired<00:27:13.890> like?

00:27:15.950 --> 00:27:29.370
Amazing,<00:27:16.858> wonderful,<00:27:18.156> um,<00:27:18.903> a<00:27:18.984> charge<00:27:19.860> for<00:27:20.865> a<00:27:20.929> 21-year-old,<00:27:23.205> you<00:27:23.302> know,<00:27:23.673> we<00:27:23.770> were<00:27:23.915> building<00:27:24.334> new<00:27:24.577> things,<00:27:25.045> breaking<00:27:25.464> ground,<00:27:26.255> like<00:27:26.981> launching<00:27:27.320> new<00:27:27.482> products<00:27:27.885> and<00:27:27.966> experimenting<00:27:28.837> all<00:27:28.934> the<00:27:29.015> time.

00:27:29.660 --> 00:27:32.663
What<00:27:29.902> an<00:27:29.935> amazing<00:27:30.451> sort<00:27:30.645> of<00:27:30.726> experience<00:27:31.275> to<00:27:31.436> have<00:27:31.775> as<00:27:31.920> a<00:27:32.001> young<00:27:32.243> person.

00:27:33.373 --> 00:27:34.923
You<00:27:33.454> know,<00:27:33.760> there<00:27:33.922> were<00:27:34.099> no<00:27:34.325> boundaries.

00:27:34.987 --> 00:27:37.085
People<00:27:35.245> didn't<00:27:35.536> understand<00:27:36.036> what<00:27:36.182> you<00:27:36.278> can<00:27:36.601> and<00:27:36.666> can't<00:27:36.989> do.

00:27:37.182 --> 00:27:39.168
So<00:27:37.473> you<00:27:37.505> sort<00:27:37.731> of<00:27:37.812> experimented<00:27:38.458> with<00:27:38.603> tons<00:27:38.829> of<00:27:38.910> stuff.

00:27:41.206 --> 00:27:48.995
You<00:27:41.287> know,<00:27:41.675> I<00:27:41.853> had<00:27:42.095> an<00:27:42.176> opportunity<00:27:42.548> to<00:27:42.661> work<00:27:42.823> for<00:27:43.066> a<00:27:43.147> traditional<00:27:43.632> publishing<00:27:44.117> company<00:27:44.828> or<00:27:45.087> this<00:27:45.556> cool<00:27:45.815> company<00:27:46.219> called<00:27:46.430> Wired<00:27:47.583> on<00:27:48.086> their<00:27:48.313> online<00:27:48.801> thing.

00:27:49.060 --> 00:27:56.625
And<00:27:49.645> I<00:27:49.694> opted<00:27:50.051> to<00:27:50.278> go<00:27:50.392> to<00:27:52.482> to<00:27:52.723> do<00:27:52.899> this<00:27:53.349> really<00:27:53.590> cool<00:27:53.831> thing<00:27:54.008> called<00:27:54.232> the<00:27:54.329> internet,<00:27:54.682> but<00:27:54.810> my<00:27:54.891> parents<00:27:55.292> couldn't<00:27:55.453> understand<00:27:55.758> what<00:27:55.919> the<00:27:55.999> hell<00:27:56.175> it<00:27:56.256> was.

00:27:56.738 --> 00:27:59.837
And<00:27:56.834> so<00:27:57.219> they<00:27:57.364> were<00:27:57.460> like,<00:27:57.846> "You're<00:27:58.777> gonna<00:27:58.986> turn<00:27:59.227> down<00:27:59.468> Disney?

00:27:59.933 --> 00:28:04.944
Like,<00:28:00.110> that<00:28:00.287> seems<00:28:00.576> crazy."<00:28:02.278> And<00:28:02.438> it<00:28:02.503> was<00:28:02.840> just<00:28:03.081> the<00:28:03.338> single<00:28:03.643> best<00:28:03.836> decision<00:28:04.269> I<00:28:04.285> could<00:28:04.446> have<00:28:04.606> made.

00:28:05.393 --> 00:28:13.471
And,<00:28:05.714> you<00:28:05.746> know,<00:28:06.839> you<00:28:07.256> walk<00:28:07.497> into<00:28:07.738> an<00:28:07.818> industry<00:28:08.300> where<00:28:08.444> basically<00:28:08.926> your<00:28:09.103> bosses<00:28:09.568> are<00:28:09.809> maybe<00:28:10.131> 3<00:28:10.468> years,<00:28:10.789> 2<00:28:11.014> years<00:28:11.335> older<00:28:11.576> than<00:28:11.753> you,<00:28:12.154> and<00:28:12.299> they<00:28:12.395> don't<00:28:12.555> know<00:28:12.700> what<00:28:12.796> they're<00:28:12.957> doing<00:28:13.342> too.

00:28:13.744 --> 00:28:16.795
And<00:28:13.840> so<00:28:14.563> you're<00:28:14.723> learning<00:28:15.029> on<00:28:15.125> the<00:28:15.205> job<00:28:15.526> together,<00:28:16.490> right?

00:28:16.956 --> 00:28:22.335
And<00:28:17.598> they're<00:28:17.759> allowing<00:28:18.160> you<00:28:18.321> to<00:28:18.658> experiment<00:28:19.140> and<00:28:19.220> do<00:28:19.461> anything<00:28:20.103> that<00:28:20.328> you<00:28:20.424> think<00:28:20.826> makes<00:28:21.083> sense<00:28:21.548> without<00:28:21.934> harming<00:28:22.191> people.

00:28:22.496 --> 00:28:24.537
Of<00:28:22.576> course,<00:28:23.878> but<00:28:24.022> you're<00:28:24.199> learning.

00:28:25.485 --> 00:28:33.294
And<00:28:25.629> that,<00:28:26.047> I<00:28:26.127> think,<00:28:26.465> is<00:28:26.690> a<00:28:26.834> wonderful<00:28:27.172> experience<00:28:27.654> and<00:28:27.815> one<00:28:28.040> that<00:28:28.200> I<00:28:28.281> would<00:28:28.457> wish<00:28:28.763> for<00:28:29.084> every,<00:28:29.582> you<00:28:29.646> know,<00:28:29.743> person<00:28:30.144> graduating,<00:28:30.868> the<00:28:30.932> opportunity<00:28:31.414> to<00:28:31.510> sort<00:28:31.751> of<00:28:31.800> do<00:28:31.992> tons<00:28:32.314> of<00:28:32.394> different<00:28:32.716> things<00:28:32.957> and<00:28:33.117> learn.

00:28:34.966 --> 00:28:37.795
And<00:28:35.030> then<00:28:35.191> you<00:28:35.287> left<00:28:35.528> there<00:28:36.011> to<00:28:36.236> go<00:28:36.573> to<00:28:36.959> Audible,<00:28:37.441> right?

00:28:37.923 --> 00:28:41.737
And<00:28:38.502> you<00:28:38.646> were<00:28:39.547> part<00:28:39.788> of<00:28:39.868> building<00:28:40.125> the<00:28:40.254> first<00:28:41.220> Audible<00:28:41.559> app.

00:28:42.947 --> 00:28:45.302
That<00:28:43.156> must<00:28:43.334> have<00:28:43.415> been<00:28:44.689> incredible.

00:28:45.496 --> 00:28:53.587
And<00:28:45.593> did<00:28:45.754> you<00:28:46.077> ever<00:28:46.319> think<00:28:46.561> that<00:28:46.948> it<00:28:47.045> would<00:28:47.448> be<00:28:47.674> as<00:28:47.852> big<00:28:48.077> as<00:28:48.174> it<00:28:48.271> is<00:28:48.432> now,<00:28:48.820> or<00:28:48.981> podcasts<00:28:49.530> would<00:28:49.626> be<00:28:49.772> as<00:28:49.868> big<00:28:50.046> as<00:28:50.175> they<00:28:50.258> are<00:28:50.445> now,<00:28:51.885> or<00:28:52.110> audiobooks<00:28:52.607> would<00:28:52.752> be<00:28:52.848> as<00:28:52.993> big<00:28:53.153> as<00:28:53.250> they<00:28:53.394> are<00:28:53.491> now?

00:28:54.840 --> 00:28:59.867
Well,<00:28:55.161> so<00:28:55.884> I<00:28:56.044> didn't<00:28:56.382> go<00:28:56.623> from,<00:28:58.052> you<00:28:58.132> know,<00:28:58.389> going<00:28:58.695> to<00:28:58.871> Wire<00:28:59.289> to<00:28:59.578> Audible.

00:29:00.140 --> 00:29:03.497
I've<00:29:00.301> had<00:29:00.477> tons<00:29:00.879> of<00:29:00.943> little<00:29:01.184> companies,<00:29:02.244> grad<00:29:02.581> school<00:29:02.886> in<00:29:02.967> between.

00:29:04.653 --> 00:29:08.427
But,<00:29:05.440> you<00:29:05.472> know,<00:29:05.842> I<00:29:06.002> always<00:29:06.516> am<00:29:06.661> a<00:29:06.821> little<00:29:06.966> bit<00:29:07.127> like<00:29:07.384> Warren<00:29:07.705> Buffett<00:29:08.026> that<00:29:08.187> way.

00:29:08.572 --> 00:29:10.435
I,<00:29:09.054> you<00:29:09.086> know,<00:29:09.150> invest<00:29:09.552> in<00:29:09.696> things<00:29:09.937> I<00:29:10.098> like.

00:29:10.580 --> 00:29:15.767
And<00:29:10.756> when<00:29:10.901> you<00:29:10.997> talk<00:29:11.254> about<00:29:11.479> being<00:29:11.640> an<00:29:11.736> employee<00:29:12.684> or,<00:29:13.406> you<00:29:13.487> know,<00:29:13.567> anywhere,<00:29:14.033> you're<00:29:14.113> investing<00:29:15.398> what<00:29:15.494> you<00:29:15.639> love.

00:29:16.281 --> 00:29:17.325
And<00:29:16.442> I<00:29:16.603> loved<00:29:16.924> audiobooks.

00:29:17.390 --> 00:29:20.860
Books,<00:29:19.012> whether<00:29:19.173> or<00:29:19.205> not<00:29:19.414> it's<00:29:19.639> in<00:29:19.719> a<00:29:19.736> CD<00:29:20.137> or<00:29:20.314> tapes,<00:29:20.780> right?

00:29:20.941 --> 00:29:24.379
People<00:29:21.150> still<00:29:21.358> call<00:29:21.600> it,<00:29:21.921> I<00:29:22.162> think,<00:29:22.323> back<00:29:22.628> then,<00:29:23.046> books<00:29:23.287> on<00:29:23.383> tapes<00:29:23.769> of<00:29:23.849> all<00:29:24.010> things.

00:29:25.038 --> 00:29:26.870
And<00:29:25.135> so<00:29:26.259> it<00:29:26.324> was<00:29:26.484> amazing.

00:29:27.449 --> 00:29:35.306
And<00:29:27.947> I<00:29:28.252> always<00:29:28.589> will<00:29:28.734> go<00:29:28.911> back<00:29:29.168> to<00:29:29.714> when<00:29:30.020> I<00:29:30.116> think<00:29:30.293> about,<00:29:30.662> hey,<00:29:31.064> who's<00:29:31.321> given<00:29:31.562> me<00:29:31.659> a<00:29:31.723> chance<00:29:31.996> to<00:29:32.141> do<00:29:32.285> something<00:29:32.687> that<00:29:32.848> I,<00:29:33.233> again,<00:29:34.117> would<00:29:34.197> have<00:29:34.294> never<00:29:34.535> thought<00:29:34.712> I<00:29:34.776> would<00:29:34.921> have<00:29:35.017> done?

00:29:35.740 --> 00:29:38.423
I<00:29:35.804> go<00:29:35.901> back<00:29:36.126> to<00:29:36.222> Don<00:29:36.447> Katz,<00:29:36.945> who's<00:29:37.106> the<00:29:37.186> CEO<00:29:37.813> of<00:29:38.054> Audible.

00:29:39.114 --> 00:29:40.336
What<00:29:39.291> an<00:29:39.420> amazing<00:29:39.982> leader.

00:29:40.786 --> 00:29:42.955
I<00:29:41.444> think<00:29:41.669> my<00:29:41.846> interview<00:29:42.168> with<00:29:42.328> him<00:29:42.730> went<00:29:42.891> thus.

00:29:43.520 --> 00:29:46.180
He's<00:29:44.020> like,<00:29:44.280> so<00:29:44.800> do<00:29:45.000> you<00:29:45.080> know<00:29:45.240> anything<00:29:45.500> about<00:29:45.720> mobile?

00:29:46.180 --> 00:29:59.280
Now<00:29:46.260> this<00:29:46.420> is<00:29:46.700> back<00:29:46.880> in<00:29:47.100> 2000,<00:29:48.180> I<00:29:48.460> want<00:29:48.620> to<00:29:48.780> say,<00:29:49.700> '05,<00:29:50.420> you<00:29:50.421> know,<00:29:50.870> 35%<00:29:51.620> at<00:29:51.820> most<00:29:52.120> of<00:29:52.320> Americans<00:29:52.720> had<00:29:52.940> a<00:29:53.120> smartphone<00:29:53.480> and<00:29:53.700> it<00:29:53.840> was<00:29:53.940> typically<00:29:54.280> like<00:29:54.460> Windows,<00:29:55.780> like,<00:29:55.800> you<00:29:55.980> know,<00:29:56.180> mobile<00:29:56.620> or<00:29:57.520> like,<00:29:57.720> you<00:29:57.721> know,<00:29:58.160> BlackBerry,<00:29:58.740> right?

00:29:59.280 --> 00:30:00.900
So<00:29:59.380> he's<00:29:59.580> like,<00:29:59.740> do<00:29:59.760> you<00:29:59.840> know<00:29:59.980> anything<00:30:00.160> about<00:30:00.340> mobile<00:30:00.560> phones?

00:30:00.900 --> 00:30:08.340
And<00:30:01.020> I<00:30:01.180> have<00:30:01.520> one<00:30:01.820> and<00:30:01.940> I<00:30:02.040> was<00:30:02.140> just<00:30:02.300> like,<00:30:02.540> well,<00:30:02.560> I<00:30:02.700> have<00:30:03.000> one,<00:30:03.780> but<00:30:03.860> I<00:30:03.940> don't<00:30:04.020> know<00:30:04.140> very<00:30:04.360> much<00:30:04.580> about,<00:30:04.980> you<00:30:05.060> know,<00:30:05.400> anything<00:30:05.420> like<00:30:05.640> developing<00:30:06.060> for<00:30:06.440> it<00:30:06.680> or<00:30:06.800> like<00:30:06.980> the<00:30:07.120> economics<00:30:07.580> of<00:30:07.760> it<00:30:07.880> or<00:30:07.960> anything.

00:30:08.340 --> 00:30:09.500
And<00:30:08.400> he's<00:30:08.560> like,<00:30:08.720> do<00:30:08.760> you<00:30:08.880> think<00:30:08.960> you<00:30:09.080> could<00:30:09.200> learn?

00:30:09.530 --> 00:30:10.276
I'm<00:30:09.643> like,<00:30:10.033> yeah.

00:30:10.617 --> 00:30:14.446
He's<00:30:11.006> like,<00:30:11.168> you<00:30:11.201> seem<00:30:11.428> pretty<00:30:11.606> smart,<00:30:12.320> so<00:30:12.726> tag,<00:30:13.051> you're<00:30:13.310> it,<00:30:13.440> you're<00:30:13.602> the<00:30:13.683> director<00:30:14.024> of<00:30:14.105> mobile.

00:30:16.315 --> 00:30:24.534
And<00:30:16.590> so<00:30:18.271> I<00:30:18.432> walked<00:30:18.691> away<00:30:18.917> thinking<00:30:19.224> like,<00:30:19.547> wow,<00:30:20.194> this<00:30:20.371> guy<00:30:20.840> is<00:30:21.406> crazy,<00:30:22.634> but<00:30:23.119> I'm<00:30:23.296> not<00:30:23.410> gonna<00:30:23.602> tell<00:30:23.811> him<00:30:23.940> otherwise.

00:30:25.675 --> 00:30:29.081
I<00:30:25.771> was<00:30:26.093> probably<00:30:27.121> a<00:30:27.137> little<00:30:27.298> bit<00:30:27.459> scared<00:30:28.423> but<00:30:28.567> excited.

00:30:30.094 --> 00:30:35.884
And<00:30:30.335> yeah,<00:30:30.656> developed<00:30:31.010> the<00:30:31.138> first<00:30:31.476> mobile<00:30:32.359> app<00:30:33.244> in<00:30:33.324> 2005<00:30:34.693> for<00:30:35.482> Audible.

00:30:36.045 --> 00:30:41.606
I<00:30:36.222> think<00:30:36.448> I<00:30:36.464> see<00:30:36.706> a<00:30:36.786> lot<00:30:37.011> of<00:30:37.092> the<00:30:37.189> features<00:30:37.752> that<00:30:37.994> is<00:30:38.090> still<00:30:38.557> that<00:30:38.718> I<00:30:38.944> actually<00:30:39.682> sort<00:30:39.826> of<00:30:40.019> originally<00:30:40.484> planned<00:30:40.820> and<00:30:40.964> specced<00:30:41.349> out.

00:30:41.926 --> 00:30:54.141
I<00:30:42.071> was<00:30:42.167> the<00:30:42.311> first<00:30:42.648> director<00:30:43.449> or<00:30:43.834> first<00:30:44.090> person<00:30:44.347> to<00:30:44.475> touch<00:30:44.732> mobile<00:30:45.517> for<00:30:45.613> the<00:30:45.693> company<00:30:46.254> as<00:30:46.335> a<00:30:46.415> product<00:30:46.880> and<00:30:47.056> marketing<00:30:47.521> person,<00:30:48.643> um,<00:30:49.284> you<00:30:49.316> know,<00:30:49.541> work<00:30:49.765> with<00:30:49.877> a<00:30:50.005> team<00:30:50.262> of<00:30:50.358> amazing<00:30:50.759> engineers<00:30:51.608> and,<00:30:52.009> um,<00:30:52.666> yeah,<00:30:52.827> launched<00:30:53.067> the<00:30:53.147> first<00:30:53.452> app<00:30:53.612> for<00:30:53.692> Audible.

00:30:54.574 --> 00:30:58.229
And,<00:30:54.895> um,<00:30:55.856> you<00:30:55.953> know,<00:30:56.257> now<00:30:56.434> I<00:30:56.514> listen<00:30:56.754> to<00:30:56.914> it<00:30:56.995> all<00:30:57.139> the<00:30:57.235> time<00:30:57.940> as<00:30:58.117> well.

00:30:58.517 --> 00:31:01.563
So<00:30:58.902> I'm<00:30:59.062> a<00:30:59.078> believer<00:30:59.640> in<00:30:59.800> eating<00:30:59.960> the<00:31:00.104> dog<00:31:00.297> food<00:31:00.585> that<00:31:00.842> I<00:31:00.922> make,<00:31:01.243> right?

00:31:02.108 --> 00:31:13.399
And<00:31:03.326> that's<00:31:03.647> very<00:31:03.904> much<00:31:04.128> sort<00:31:04.513> of<00:31:05.090> on<00:31:05.170> par<00:31:05.555> with,<00:31:05.795> you<00:31:05.827> know,<00:31:05.971> you<00:31:06.052> have<00:31:06.276> to<00:31:06.372> work<00:31:06.613> on<00:31:06.757> things<00:31:06.997> that<00:31:07.094> you<00:31:07.238> really<00:31:07.494> fundamentally<00:31:08.200> have<00:31:08.312> a<00:31:08.376> belief<00:31:08.761> in<00:31:08.857> because<00:31:09.418> as<00:31:09.514> a<00:31:09.578> CEO<00:31:10.203> you<00:31:10.444> are<00:31:11.021> the<00:31:11.310> beef,<00:31:11.808> you<00:31:11.840> know,<00:31:12.145> evangelist<00:31:12.788> for<00:31:12.933> your<00:31:13.029> company.

00:31:14.958 --> 00:31:20.282
I<00:31:15.023> want<00:31:15.135> to<00:31:15.200> go<00:31:15.280> back<00:31:15.441> to<00:31:15.521> your<00:31:15.746> answer<00:31:16.148> on<00:31:16.325> culture<00:31:16.807> just<00:31:17.048> real<00:31:17.209> quick<00:31:17.611> and<00:31:17.691> double-click<00:31:18.173> on<00:31:18.334> something<00:31:18.656> that,<00:31:19.122> uh,<00:31:19.524> you,<00:31:19.701> you<00:31:19.910> mentioned.

00:31:20.978 --> 00:31:25.009
And<00:31:21.302> that,<00:31:21.706> like,<00:31:21.884> the,<00:31:22.192> what<00:31:22.370> the<00:31:22.516> word<00:31:22.694> that<00:31:22.775> kept<00:31:23.018> coming<00:31:23.179> to<00:31:23.260> my<00:31:23.357> mind<00:31:23.681> as<00:31:23.811> you<00:31:23.892> were<00:31:23.989> talking<00:31:24.296> about<00:31:24.377> that<00:31:24.474> is<00:31:24.717> empathy.

00:31:25.966 --> 00:31:30.194
Like,<00:31:26.144> having<00:31:26.452> empathy<00:31:26.873> for<00:31:27.035> the<00:31:27.116> people<00:31:27.505> you<00:31:27.683> lead<00:31:28.153> and<00:31:28.250> having<00:31:28.574> empathy<00:31:29.044> for<00:31:29.174> the<00:31:29.222> people<00:31:29.546> you<00:31:29.692> work<00:31:29.951> with.

00:31:30.924 --> 00:31:36.082
What<00:31:31.150> role<00:31:31.329> do<00:31:31.491> you<00:31:31.653> think<00:31:32.058> empathy<00:31:32.463> plays<00:31:33.095> in<00:31:33.338> leadership,<00:31:34.950> particularly<00:31:35.403> at<00:31:35.577> your<00:31:35.838> level?

00:31:38.301 --> 00:31:47.453
Yeah,<00:31:38.702> I<00:31:38.718> mean,<00:31:39.039> I<00:31:39.120> think<00:31:39.425> that,<00:31:39.842> you<00:31:39.938> know,<00:31:41.448> one<00:31:41.624> of<00:31:41.705> the<00:31:41.913> things<00:31:42.235> that's<00:31:42.556> really<00:31:42.813> difficult<00:31:43.680> is<00:31:43.920> that,<00:31:44.258> you<00:31:44.338> know,<00:31:44.643> we<00:31:45.044> as<00:31:45.221> leaders,<00:31:46.329> you<00:31:46.361> know,<00:31:46.586> lead<00:31:46.746> by<00:31:46.971> example.

00:31:48.336 --> 00:31:54.871
You<00:31:48.368> know,<00:31:48.657> you<00:31:48.754> have<00:31:49.155> to<00:31:49.396> lead<00:31:49.556> by<00:31:49.717> example<00:31:50.199> because<00:31:50.600> people<00:31:50.825> are<00:31:50.985> looking<00:31:51.307> at<00:31:51.628> you<00:31:51.708> to<00:31:51.820> make<00:31:52.029> decisions,<00:31:52.832> to<00:31:53.025> sort<00:31:53.314> of<00:31:53.410> model<00:31:53.811> after,<00:31:54.213> and<00:31:54.309> so<00:31:54.534> forth.

00:31:54.935 --> 00:32:02.289
And<00:31:55.032> so<00:31:55.240> one<00:31:55.401> of<00:31:55.433> the<00:31:55.578> things<00:31:55.883> that's<00:31:56.123> very<00:31:56.445> difficult<00:31:56.942> for<00:31:57.119> a<00:31:57.183> lot<00:31:57.408> of<00:31:57.440> Type<00:31:57.745> A<00:31:57.890> personalities<00:31:58.709> who<00:31:58.789> are<00:31:58.949> CEOs<00:32:00.234> is<00:32:00.314> that<00:32:00.459> we<00:32:00.555> have<00:32:00.716> very<00:32:01.021> little<00:32:01.262> empathy<00:32:01.759> for<00:32:01.984> ourselves.

00:32:03.430 --> 00:32:09.486
And<00:32:03.526> so<00:32:03.783> it's<00:32:03.992> very<00:32:04.169> difficult<00:32:04.731> to<00:32:04.972> model<00:32:05.534> empathy<00:32:07.076> if<00:32:07.156> you<00:32:07.285> can't<00:32:08.329> have<00:32:08.586> empathy<00:32:08.907> for<00:32:09.068> yourself.

00:32:09.775 --> 00:32:19.509
And<00:32:09.887> so<00:32:10.835> one<00:32:10.996> of<00:32:11.076> the<00:32:11.220> things,<00:32:11.622> you<00:32:11.718> know,<00:32:11.879> I<00:32:12.024> talk<00:32:12.297> about,<00:32:13.228> you<00:32:13.260> know,<00:32:13.469> in<00:32:13.550> a<00:32:13.646> work<00:32:13.871> environment,<00:32:15.011> for<00:32:15.092> example,<00:32:15.558> is<00:32:16.056> to<00:32:16.152> say,<00:32:16.377> like,<00:32:17.421> be<00:32:17.582> the<00:32:17.662> first<00:32:17.983> to<00:32:18.128> sort<00:32:18.320> of<00:32:18.385> say<00:32:18.690> that<00:32:18.867> I<00:32:18.947> screwed<00:32:19.332> up.

00:32:19.654 --> 00:32:24.649
You<00:32:20.312> know,<00:32:20.377> I<00:32:20.553> think<00:32:20.939> I<00:32:20.955> might<00:32:21.340> use<00:32:21.581> more<00:32:21.838> strong<00:32:22.256> terms<00:32:22.577> like,<00:32:22.866> oh<00:32:23.043> boy,<00:32:23.268> guys,<00:32:23.750> I<00:32:24.151> effed<00:32:24.392> it<00:32:24.489> up.

00:32:25.838 --> 00:32:28.665
And<00:32:25.935> so<00:32:26.095> saying,<00:32:26.400> like,<00:32:27.059> you<00:32:27.139> know,<00:32:27.364> I<00:32:27.477> totally<00:32:27.782> screwed<00:32:28.023> this<00:32:28.248> thing<00:32:28.408> up.

00:32:29.067 --> 00:32:33.354
And<00:32:29.228> so<00:32:29.613> because<00:32:29.950> of<00:32:30.095> us,<00:32:30.769> because<00:32:31.010> of<00:32:31.074> me,<00:32:31.636> we<00:32:31.732> might<00:32:31.941> have<00:32:32.037> had<00:32:32.214> a<00:32:32.262> delay<00:32:32.583> of<00:32:32.680> 2<00:32:32.904> weeks<00:32:33.225> here.

00:32:33.884 --> 00:32:39.245
And<00:32:33.980> saying<00:32:34.959> like,<00:32:35.328> this<00:32:35.569> should<00:32:35.810> have<00:32:35.970> probably<00:32:36.372> not<00:32:36.532> been<00:32:36.693> done<00:32:37.014> and<00:32:37.158> that<00:32:37.399> this<00:32:37.576> is<00:32:37.656> how<00:32:37.897> we<00:32:38.041> do<00:32:38.202> it<00:32:38.298> different<00:32:38.619> this<00:32:38.844> time<00:32:39.037> around.

00:32:39.342 --> 00:32:42.344
And<00:32:39.438> the<00:32:39.502> next<00:32:39.807> time<00:32:40.048> around,<00:32:40.706> I<00:32:40.851> would<00:32:41.027> do<00:32:41.509> this<00:32:41.814> and<00:32:41.910> do<00:32:42.071> that.

00:32:42.793 --> 00:32:49.311
And<00:32:42.873> so<00:32:43.034> by<00:32:43.194> staying<00:32:43.740> basically<00:32:44.158> and<00:32:44.254> showing<00:32:44.559> myself<00:32:44.960> empathy,<00:32:45.346> like<00:32:45.522> I<00:32:45.602> screwed<00:32:45.940> us<00:32:46.148> up<00:32:46.806> and<00:32:46.983> I'm<00:32:47.192> delaying<00:32:47.593> us<00:32:47.754> by<00:32:47.914> 2<00:32:48.155> weeks,<00:32:48.331> that<00:32:48.476> should<00:32:48.653> not<00:32:48.829> have<00:32:48.958> happened.

00:32:49.359 --> 00:32:51.799
And<00:32:49.439> here's<00:32:49.776> what<00:32:49.873> happened<00:32:50.322> here<00:32:50.563> in<00:32:50.659> terms<00:32:50.916> of<00:32:51.060> a<00:32:51.205> postmortem.

00:32:51.863 --> 00:32:54.030
And<00:32:51.959> so<00:32:52.248> here's<00:32:52.489> how<00:32:52.650> we<00:32:52.971> do<00:32:53.147> it<00:32:53.372> the<00:32:53.549> same<00:32:53.790> way.

00:32:54.512 --> 00:32:57.739
That<00:32:54.672> means<00:32:56.037> that<00:32:56.214> I'm<00:32:56.759> OK<00:32:57.161> with<00:32:57.321> that.

00:32:58.204 --> 00:33:02.712
And<00:32:58.365> then<00:32:58.686> that<00:32:58.927> means<00:32:59.151> that<00:32:59.328> other<00:32:59.553> people<00:32:59.809> should<00:32:59.970> be<00:33:00.131> OK<00:33:00.420> about<00:33:00.852> doing<00:33:01.093> that<00:33:01.333> too,<00:33:02.375> right?

00:33:03.096 --> 00:33:11.479
And<00:33:03.176> so<00:33:04.523> you<00:33:04.699> really<00:33:05.004> have<00:33:05.340> to,<00:33:05.565> like,<00:33:05.741> when<00:33:05.885> you<00:33:06.046> talk<00:33:06.238> about<00:33:06.462> building<00:33:06.863> empathy<00:33:07.280> as<00:33:07.424> part<00:33:07.665> of<00:33:07.761> a<00:33:07.825> company<00:33:08.145> culture,<00:33:08.610> you<00:33:08.706> really—<00:33:09.428> it<00:33:09.492> doesn't<00:33:09.748> mean<00:33:09.909> that<00:33:10.133> you're<00:33:10.325> slacking,<00:33:11.175> right?

00:33:11.736 --> 00:33:19.911
The<00:33:11.832> reality<00:33:12.329> is,<00:33:12.473> is<00:33:12.553> that<00:33:12.858> like<00:33:13.034> everybody's,<00:33:13.739> you<00:33:13.836> know,<00:33:14.012> I'm<00:33:15.054> a<00:33:15.118> firm<00:33:15.358> believer<00:33:15.759> that<00:33:16.160> really<00:33:16.480> everybody<00:33:16.865> wants<00:33:17.041> to<00:33:17.138> do<00:33:18.324> good<00:33:18.708> and<00:33:18.805> do<00:33:19.045> right,<00:33:19.670> right?

00:33:20.407 --> 00:33:32.349
But<00:33:20.888> we<00:33:21.049> beat<00:33:21.225> ourselves<00:33:21.674> up<00:33:21.834> tremendously,<00:33:22.635> and<00:33:22.732> so<00:33:23.212> we<00:33:23.293> get<00:33:23.469> into<00:33:23.709> this<00:33:23.934> spiral<00:33:24.479> of<00:33:24.559> like<00:33:24.896> recrimination,<00:33:25.777> and<00:33:25.857> then<00:33:26.162> actually<00:33:26.498> what<00:33:26.659> it<00:33:26.803> does,<00:33:27.059> that<00:33:27.380> what<00:33:27.540> that<00:33:27.781> does<00:33:28.165> is<00:33:28.678> screw<00:33:28.983> yourself<00:33:29.368> even<00:33:29.608> more<00:33:30.025> and<00:33:30.185> delay<00:33:30.506> things<00:33:30.746> even<00:33:30.971> more,<00:33:32.029> right?

00:33:32.670 --> 00:33:45.702
What<00:33:32.814> I<00:33:33.071> really<00:33:33.455> love<00:33:33.552> to<00:33:33.696> see<00:33:33.872> from<00:33:34.048> an<00:33:34.193> empathy<00:33:34.577> point<00:33:34.738> of<00:33:34.834> view<00:33:34.978> is<00:33:35.058> to<00:33:35.155> sort<00:33:35.395> of<00:33:35.539> give<00:33:35.700> yourself<00:33:36.052> that<00:33:36.261> empathy<00:33:36.597> and<00:33:36.677> grace<00:33:36.870> to<00:33:36.998> say<00:33:37.158> like,<00:33:37.719> screwed<00:33:38.024> up,<00:33:38.345> here's<00:33:38.617> how<00:33:38.681> I<00:33:38.777> screwed<00:33:39.066> up,<00:33:39.483> and<00:33:39.627> here's<00:33:39.867> how<00:33:39.964> we<00:33:40.060> need<00:33:40.268> to<00:33:40.380> do<00:33:40.509> to<00:33:40.605> fix<00:33:40.989> it,<00:33:41.551> and<00:33:41.631> here's<00:33:41.951> what<00:33:42.047> we<00:33:42.128> need<00:33:42.288> to<00:33:42.384> do<00:33:42.528> to<00:33:42.609> not<00:33:42.785> do<00:33:42.929> it<00:33:43.025> again,<00:33:43.731> and<00:33:43.891> move<00:33:44.356> on,<00:33:45.253> move<00:33:45.478> on.

00:33:45.959 --> 00:33:54.118
And<00:33:46.039> I<00:33:46.135> think<00:33:46.295> that's<00:33:46.536> like<00:33:46.696> the<00:33:46.776> number<00:33:47.241> one<00:33:47.434> issue<00:33:47.802> for<00:33:47.963> a<00:33:48.203> lot<00:33:48.395> of<00:33:48.524> companies<00:33:49.069> from<00:33:49.341> an<00:33:49.389> empathy<00:33:49.726> point<00:33:49.902> of<00:33:49.982> view,<00:33:50.848> um,<00:33:51.024> is<00:33:51.265> that<00:33:52.227> because<00:33:52.547> everybody's<00:33:52.948> doing<00:33:53.333> this,<00:33:53.974> right?

00:33:54.294 --> 00:33:54.695
Oh<00:33:54.311> my<00:33:54.455> gosh.

00:33:54.840 --> 00:33:55.593
Me,<00:33:55.112> it's<00:33:55.304> not<00:33:55.513> me.

00:33:55.753 --> 00:33:59.440
It's<00:33:55.994> not—<00:33:56.074> and<00:33:56.154> then<00:33:56.298> so<00:33:56.394> you<00:33:56.475> spend<00:33:56.715> a<00:33:56.795> lot<00:33:56.956> of<00:33:57.036> time<00:33:57.196> trying<00:33:57.404> to<00:33:57.436> figure<00:33:57.613> out<00:33:57.677> like<00:33:57.837> what<00:33:57.982> happened<00:33:58.318> here,<00:33:59.120> right?

00:34:00.001 --> 00:34:07.392
And<00:34:00.162> so<00:34:00.867> having<00:34:01.124> empathy<00:34:01.508> for<00:34:01.637> myself<00:34:02.310> and<00:34:02.470> then<00:34:02.646> having<00:34:02.967> empathy<00:34:03.288> for<00:34:03.432> my<00:34:03.528> coworkers<00:34:04.330> builds<00:34:04.570> a<00:34:04.634> culture<00:34:05.115> where<00:34:05.292> we're<00:34:05.388> not<00:34:05.772> doing<00:34:06.414> hopefully<00:34:06.798> too<00:34:06.911> much<00:34:07.071> of<00:34:07.199> this.

00:34:07.456 --> 00:34:08.995
I<00:34:07.472> mean,<00:34:07.616> I'm<00:34:07.696> not<00:34:07.856> going<00:34:07.953> to<00:34:08.017> say<00:34:08.241> everybody's<00:34:08.578> perfect.

00:34:09.043 --> 00:34:11.287
Like<00:34:09.700> we<00:34:09.780> sometimes<00:34:10.325> all<00:34:10.421> do<00:34:10.582> that,<00:34:10.822> right?

00:34:11.704 --> 00:34:19.142
But<00:34:11.864> to<00:34:11.944> sort<00:34:12.105> of<00:34:12.185> remind<00:34:12.890> ourselves<00:34:13.371> and<00:34:13.692> as<00:34:13.868> an<00:34:13.964> empathetic<00:34:14.349> leader<00:34:15.471> and<00:34:15.551> trying<00:34:15.760> to<00:34:15.792> set<00:34:15.952> company<00:34:16.337> culture<00:34:16.834> to<00:34:16.930> say<00:34:17.635> this<00:34:17.876> isn't<00:34:18.180> how<00:34:18.357> we<00:34:18.437> should<00:34:18.757> operate.

00:34:19.783 --> 00:34:23.348
It's<00:34:19.944> okay<00:34:20.264> to<00:34:20.344> say<00:34:20.521> like,<00:34:20.825> hey,<00:34:21.893> This<00:34:22.055> is<00:34:22.216> me,<00:34:22.718> I<00:34:22.798> screwed<00:34:23.203> up.

00:34:23.445 --> 00:34:31.287
And<00:34:23.526> then<00:34:24.011> by<00:34:24.173> doing<00:34:24.480> that,<00:34:25.062> we<00:34:25.207> also<00:34:25.531> have<00:34:25.709> more<00:34:25.870> empathy<00:34:26.339> for<00:34:26.517> our<00:34:26.598> customers<00:34:27.148> because<00:34:27.487> we<00:34:27.649> really<00:34:27.891> can't<00:34:28.199> expect<00:34:28.473> our<00:34:28.619> customers<00:34:29.169> to<00:34:29.249> be<00:34:29.411> perfect<00:34:29.832> and<00:34:29.993> do<00:34:30.155> things<00:34:30.381> the<00:34:30.478> way<00:34:30.624> we<00:34:30.689> want<00:34:30.883> them<00:34:31.044> to.

00:34:32.014 --> 00:34:46.387
Perfect<00:34:32.338> case<00:34:32.661> in<00:34:32.742> point,<00:34:33.292> my<00:34:33.389> previous<00:34:33.939> company,<00:34:34.359> Lookyloo,<00:34:35.410> we<00:34:35.555> developed<00:34:35.879> technology<00:34:36.623> that<00:34:36.849> allowed<00:34:37.189> people<00:34:37.593> to<00:34:37.755> sort<00:34:38.709> of<00:34:39.760> use<00:34:40.099> in<00:34:40.180> a<00:34:40.229> social<00:34:40.569> environment,<00:34:43.259> like<00:34:43.421> help<00:34:43.746> people<00:34:44.070> make,<00:34:44.864> you<00:34:44.896> know,<00:34:45.853> clothing<00:34:46.177> selection.

00:34:47.450 --> 00:34:47.900
Right?

00:34:47.900 --> 00:34:55.130
And<00:34:48.140> one<00:34:48.340> of<00:34:48.460> the<00:34:48.580> things<00:34:48.800> that<00:34:48.980> we<00:34:49.080> talked<00:34:49.320> about<00:34:49.520> is<00:34:49.880> like,<00:34:50.120> how<00:34:50.240> do<00:34:50.400> people<00:34:50.680> really<00:34:51.220> like<00:34:52.020> want<00:34:52.380> to<00:34:52.960> make<00:34:53.440> clothing<00:34:53.780> decisions<00:34:54.160> and<00:34:54.340> find<00:34:54.460> the<00:34:54.500> right<00:34:54.680> size?

00:34:55.460 --> 00:35:06.960
It's<00:34:55.620> a<00:34:55.760> reality<00:34:56.040> is<00:34:56.200> that<00:34:56.300> they<00:34:56.400> didn't<00:34:56.600> want<00:34:56.960> to—<00:34:57.760> they<00:34:57.761> don't<00:34:57.900> want<00:34:58.120> to<00:34:58.480> like<00:34:58.481> strip<00:34:58.740> naked<00:34:59.100> and<00:34:59.320> scan<00:34:59.640> their<00:34:59.800> bodies<00:35:00.200> with<00:35:00.440> a<00:35:00.600> little,<00:35:01.040> you<00:35:01.060> know,<00:35:01.620> scan<00:35:01.960> on<00:35:02.220> their<00:35:02.400> phone<00:35:02.760> and<00:35:02.940> then<00:35:03.100> upload<00:35:03.400> it<00:35:03.580> to<00:35:03.640> a<00:35:03.760> server<00:35:04.020> through<00:35:04.320> like<00:35:04.500> a<00:35:04.600> bunch<00:35:04.760> of<00:35:04.880> like<00:35:05.560> software<00:35:06.000> people<00:35:06.220> can<00:35:06.540> see.

00:35:06.960 --> 00:35:11.740
And<00:35:07.180> that<00:35:07.380> was<00:35:07.500> the<00:35:07.700> expectation<00:35:08.180> of<00:35:08.500> our—<00:35:08.760> one<00:35:08.761> of<00:35:08.860> our<00:35:09.020> competitors,<00:35:09.780> or<00:35:10.100> actually<00:35:10.200> several<00:35:10.560> of<00:35:10.740> our<00:35:10.900> competitors,<00:35:11.340> right?

00:35:11.740 --> 00:35:15.540
Which<00:35:11.900> is<00:35:12.020> like,<00:35:12.280> so<00:35:12.460> this<00:35:12.560> is<00:35:12.760> the<00:35:12.780> only<00:35:12.860> way<00:35:13.000> we<00:35:13.060> can<00:35:13.180> see<00:35:13.320> the<00:35:13.460> shape<00:35:13.600> of<00:35:13.720> your<00:35:13.900> body<00:35:14.060> and<00:35:14.140> then<00:35:14.300> we<00:35:14.340> can<00:35:14.460> help<00:35:14.600> you<00:35:14.800> find<00:35:14.900> clothing<00:35:15.220> better.

00:35:15.540 --> 00:35:16.560
I'm<00:35:15.700> like,<00:35:16.060> let's<00:35:16.340> have<00:35:16.480> empathy<00:35:16.500> for<00:35:16.520> our<00:35:16.540> customers.

00:35:17.940 --> 00:35:23.350
Who<00:35:18.300> are<00:35:18.440> women,<00:35:19.190> and<00:35:19.840> they<00:35:20.000> do<00:35:20.260> not<00:35:20.340> want<00:35:20.540> to<00:35:20.660> have<00:35:20.920> half-naked<00:35:21.380> pictures<00:35:21.720> of<00:35:21.900> themselves<00:35:22.200> sitting<00:35:22.420> on<00:35:22.600> a<00:35:22.760> server<00:35:22.900> somewhere.

00:35:23.660 --> 00:35:27.040
So<00:35:23.900> what<00:35:23.980> is<00:35:24.140> the<00:35:24.360> thing<00:35:24.380> that<00:35:24.540> they<00:35:24.680> do<00:35:24.840> the<00:35:25.040> most<00:35:25.300> and<00:35:25.680> that<00:35:25.880> they're<00:35:26.040> comfortable<00:35:26.440> doing?

00:35:27.040 --> 00:35:38.260
And<00:35:27.260> then<00:35:27.380> how<00:35:27.460> do<00:35:27.580> we<00:35:27.680> build<00:35:27.900> a<00:35:28.080> technology<00:35:28.420> to<00:35:28.620> solve<00:35:28.860> the<00:35:29.020> problem<00:35:29.300> that<00:35:29.440> they<00:35:29.600> need<00:35:29.840> solved<00:35:30.220> without<00:35:31.500> actually<00:35:31.900> forcing<00:35:32.240> them<00:35:32.400> to<00:35:32.560> do<00:35:32.700> things<00:35:32.960> that<00:35:33.200> they<00:35:33.900> don't<00:35:34.120> do<00:35:34.760> and<00:35:35.600> don't<00:35:35.860> feel<00:35:36.180> comfortable<00:35:36.580> doing,<00:35:37.760> right?

00:35:38.260 --> 00:35:45.440
And<00:35:38.640> I<00:35:38.760> think<00:35:38.860> that's<00:35:39.040> a<00:35:39.300> different<00:35:39.540> approach<00:35:39.920> in<00:35:40.060> terms<00:35:40.280> of<00:35:40.400> being<00:35:40.740> empathetic<00:35:41.280> to<00:35:41.460> your<00:35:41.600> customers<00:35:42.020> and<00:35:42.180> say,<00:35:42.460> like,<00:35:42.580> really,<00:35:43.080> like,<00:35:43.400> you're<00:35:43.860> like,<00:35:44.140> why<00:35:44.141> are<00:35:44.280> they<00:35:44.380> being<00:35:44.640> so<00:35:44.900> stupid?

00:35:45.440 --> 00:35:46.940
Like,<00:35:45.620> why<00:35:45.800> can't<00:35:45.940> they<00:35:46.120> just<00:35:46.300> scan<00:35:46.480> their<00:35:46.700> body?

00:35:46.940 --> 00:35:47.940
It's<00:35:46.941> the<00:35:47.080> most<00:35:47.200> accurate<00:35:47.520> way<00:35:47.740> to<00:35:47.760> do<00:35:47.920> it.

00:35:47.940 --> 00:35:47.980
Well,<00:35:47.960> okay.

00:35:48.810 --> 00:35:50.767
Okay,<00:35:49.147> come<00:35:49.323> on,<00:35:50.430> right?

00:35:51.153 --> 00:35:56.015
Like,<00:35:51.393> we<00:35:51.490> should<00:35:51.570> have<00:35:52.276> customers,<00:35:52.854> even<00:35:53.030> if<00:35:53.111> they<00:35:53.239> have<00:35:53.335> a<00:35:53.415> perfect<00:35:53.817> body,<00:35:54.362> everybody's<00:35:54.715> shy,<00:35:55.743> right?

00:35:56.465 --> 00:36:00.076
But<00:35:57.171> we<00:35:57.251> don't<00:35:57.813> typically<00:35:58.471> think<00:35:58.631> this<00:35:58.856> way<00:35:59.032> as<00:35:59.129> technologists.

00:36:00.557 --> 00:36:14.118
And<00:36:00.718> so<00:36:01.119> we<00:36:01.263> develop<00:36:01.664> technology<00:36:02.322> that<00:36:02.483> basically<00:36:03.125> like<00:36:03.430> helps<00:36:03.847> look<00:36:04.008> at<00:36:04.088> sizing,<00:36:04.730> that<00:36:04.890> we<00:36:04.970> can<00:36:05.612> make<00:36:05.709> a<00:36:05.837> good<00:36:06.078> estimate<00:36:06.640> on<00:36:06.736> sizing,<00:36:07.683> you<00:36:07.715> know,<00:36:08.004> using<00:36:08.260> clothing<00:36:08.646> selfies<00:36:09.079> that,<00:36:09.929> you<00:36:09.962> know,<00:36:10.427> Gen<00:36:10.828> Xers<00:36:11.149> and<00:36:11.294> Gen<00:36:11.486> Zers<00:36:12.016> are<00:36:12.048> sending<00:36:12.417> to<00:36:12.578> each<00:36:12.738> other,<00:36:13.717> right?

00:36:14.423 --> 00:36:16.027
Hey,<00:36:14.664> how<00:36:14.760> do<00:36:14.840> I<00:36:14.905> look<00:36:15.097> in<00:36:15.210> this,<00:36:15.883> right?

00:36:16.124 --> 00:36:17.246
They're<00:36:16.220> already<00:36:16.444> sending<00:36:16.765> that.

00:36:17.631 --> 00:36:24.543
And,<00:36:18.433> you<00:36:18.465> know,<00:36:18.609> how<00:36:18.706> do<00:36:18.834> we<00:36:18.994> do—<00:36:19.475> how<00:36:19.588> do<00:36:19.716> we<00:36:19.796> develop<00:36:20.117> the<00:36:20.197> technology<00:36:20.790> so<00:36:21.079> that<00:36:21.576> people<00:36:21.817> can't<00:36:22.154> say<00:36:22.282> mean<00:36:22.603> things,<00:36:22.859> they<00:36:23.004> can<00:36:23.084> only<00:36:23.196> say<00:36:23.420> nice<00:36:23.741> things<00:36:23.982> to<00:36:24.078> each<00:36:24.303> other?

00:36:25.569 --> 00:36:27.702
Because<00:36:25.826> nobody<00:36:26.147> wants<00:36:26.339> to<00:36:26.451> hear<00:36:26.628> bad<00:36:26.868> things,<00:36:27.414> right?

00:36:28.216 --> 00:36:40.740
But,<00:36:28.777> you<00:36:28.889> know,<00:36:29.114> how<00:36:29.274> do<00:36:29.418> you<00:36:30.060> use<00:36:30.236> natural<00:36:30.621> language<00:36:30.894> to<00:36:31.102> parse<00:36:31.503> out<00:36:31.696> so<00:36:31.904> that<00:36:32.064> you<00:36:32.241> could<00:36:32.481> basically,<00:36:33.508> you<00:36:33.604> know,<00:36:33.668> take<00:36:33.861> the<00:36:33.941> most<00:36:34.165> important<00:36:34.646> positive<00:36:35.272> things<00:36:35.609> to<00:36:35.753> help<00:36:36.090> people<00:36:36.410> make<00:36:36.491> better<00:36:36.795> decisions<00:36:37.677> versus<00:36:38.094> basically<00:36:38.495> saying<00:36:38.752> it's<00:36:38.896> a<00:36:38.960> free-for-all,<00:36:40.484> right?

00:36:40.821 --> 00:36:41.350
Good<00:36:40.997> or<00:36:41.190> bad.

00:36:42.265 --> 00:36:56.567
So,<00:36:43.292> um,<00:36:43.565> so<00:36:43.710> you<00:36:43.870> build<00:36:44.031> technology<00:36:44.592> that's<00:36:44.913> again<00:36:45.234> putting<00:36:46.278> people<00:36:46.615> in<00:36:46.679> the<00:36:46.743> forefront,<00:36:47.225> having<00:36:47.562> empathy<00:36:47.963> for<00:36:48.124> your<00:36:48.268> customers<00:36:48.926> and<00:36:49.071> your<00:36:49.231> users,<00:36:50.291> and<00:36:50.435> that<00:36:50.612> hopefully<00:36:51.478> always<00:36:51.815> results<00:36:52.217> in<00:36:52.297> better<00:36:52.538> technology<00:36:53.244> and<00:36:53.405> better<00:36:54.608> customer<00:36:54.865> adoption<00:36:55.427> and<00:36:55.571> better<00:36:56.149> market<00:36:56.454> fit.

00:36:57.128 --> 00:37:03.661
So<00:36:58.782> as<00:36:58.878> a<00:36:58.942> public<00:36:59.183> company<00:36:59.440> CEO,<00:36:59.905> it<00:36:59.937> must<00:37:00.162> be<00:37:00.242> interesting<00:37:00.644> that<00:37:00.788> you<00:37:00.820> have<00:37:00.949> to<00:37:01.045> think<00:37:01.222> about<00:37:01.912> things<00:37:02.249> even<00:37:02.474> outside<00:37:03.035> of<00:37:03.132> your<00:37:03.292> company.

00:37:04.496 --> 00:37:15.368
Like,<00:37:04.656> you<00:37:04.721> have<00:37:04.817> to<00:37:04.897> think<00:37:05.074> about<00:37:05.282> the<00:37:05.363> macroeconomic<00:37:06.358> environment,<00:37:07.064> you<00:37:07.112> have<00:37:07.209> to<00:37:07.305> think<00:37:07.482> about<00:37:07.690> the<00:37:07.722> state<00:37:08.027> of<00:37:08.108> the<00:37:08.332> world,<00:37:08.894> you<00:37:08.926> have<00:37:09.006> to<00:37:09.151> think<00:37:10.087> I<00:37:10.103> mean,<00:37:10.717> for<00:37:10.975> you<00:37:11.218> at<00:37:11.282> Hardware,<00:37:11.605> I<00:37:11.637> imagine<00:37:12.090> you<00:37:12.251> have<00:37:12.413> to<00:37:12.445> do<00:37:12.590> a<00:37:12.671> little<00:37:12.833> bit<00:37:12.978> of<00:37:13.091> supply<00:37:13.559> chain<00:37:13.866> issue<00:37:14.448> type<00:37:14.754> things<00:37:14.997> like<00:37:15.158> that.

00:37:15.982 --> 00:37:19.959
What<00:37:16.127> is<00:37:16.208> your<00:37:16.450> current—<00:37:17.419> and<00:37:17.742> I<00:37:17.758> don't<00:37:18.001> have—<00:37:18.808> this<00:37:18.970> is<00:37:19.034> just<00:37:19.180> an<00:37:19.212> open-ended<00:37:19.618> question.

00:37:20.024 --> 00:37:24.846
What<00:37:20.202> are<00:37:20.414> your<00:37:20.738> thoughts<00:37:20.998> on<00:37:21.160> the<00:37:21.550> current<00:37:22.281> macroeconomic<00:37:23.109> environment<00:37:23.596> and<00:37:23.904> general<00:37:24.180> state<00:37:24.424> of<00:37:24.489> the<00:37:24.570> world?

00:37:26.580 --> 00:37:26.629
Wow.

00:37:26.961 --> 00:37:28.720
So<00:37:27.127> that's<00:37:27.857> a<00:37:27.940> really<00:37:28.189> big<00:37:28.338> question.

00:37:30.600 --> 00:37:31.892
You<00:37:30.714> know,<00:37:31.025> I—<00:37:31.516> how's<00:37:31.777> this?

00:37:32.170 --> 00:37:35.114
I—<00:37:33.560> the<00:37:33.740> market<00:37:34.067> is<00:37:34.296> just<00:37:34.640> very<00:37:34.885> difficult.

00:37:35.943 --> 00:37:37.529
Public<00:37:36.327> market,<00:37:36.664> private<00:37:37.064> markets.

00:37:38.443 --> 00:37:46.808
I<00:37:38.571> do<00:37:38.667> some<00:37:38.971> work<00:37:40.510> investing<00:37:41.055> LP<00:37:41.311> money<00:37:41.615> into<00:37:41.808> venture<00:37:42.112> capital<00:37:42.449> funds<00:37:43.298> on<00:37:43.378> behalf<00:37:43.795> of<00:37:43.939> a<00:37:44.035> corporate—<00:37:44.468> big<00:37:44.836> corporation,<00:37:45.702> privately<00:37:46.102> held<00:37:46.199> corporation.

00:37:46.936 --> 00:37:51.150
I'm<00:37:47.224> their<00:37:47.481> LP<00:37:47.817> representative<00:37:48.843> into<00:37:49.067> venture<00:37:49.323> capital<00:37:49.644> funds,<00:37:50.846> sort<00:37:51.006> of.

00:37:51.327 --> 00:37:54.451
I<00:37:51.391> call<00:37:51.583> it<00:37:51.647> my<00:37:51.807> nighttime,<00:37:52.352> like,<00:37:52.769> 2<00:37:52.993> AM<00:37:53.250> job,<00:37:54.115> right?

00:37:54.868 --> 00:38:04.517
So<00:37:55.156> I<00:37:55.477> look<00:37:55.653> at<00:37:55.733> the<00:37:55.813> market<00:37:56.118> a<00:37:56.198> lot<00:37:56.374> from<00:37:56.551> a<00:37:56.679> private<00:37:57.240> equity,<00:37:57.736> venture<00:37:58.057> capital<00:37:58.361> perspective,<00:37:58.858> as<00:37:58.938> well<00:37:59.002> as<00:37:59.195> a<00:37:59.259> public<00:37:59.643> market<00:38:00.060> sort<00:38:00.284> of<00:38:00.461> equity,<00:38:01.487> How<00:38:01.599> does<00:38:01.823> a—<00:38:02.288> how<00:38:02.689> good<00:38:02.849> is<00:38:02.946> the<00:38:03.026> market<00:38:03.346> right<00:38:03.443> now<00:38:03.587> as<00:38:03.827> a<00:38:03.891> public<00:38:04.148> company?

00:38:05.350 --> 00:38:10.962
I<00:38:05.511> think<00:38:05.912> that,<00:38:06.617> you<00:38:06.649> know,<00:38:07.659> we<00:38:07.819> were<00:38:07.996> due<00:38:08.156> for<00:38:08.397> a<00:38:08.477> course<00:38:08.878> correction<00:38:09.503> in<00:38:09.599> terms<00:38:10.000> of,<00:38:10.224> you<00:38:10.256> know,<00:38:10.465> the<00:38:10.545> market.

00:38:11.010 --> 00:38:18.080
There<00:38:11.106> was<00:38:11.283> a<00:38:11.363> lot<00:38:11.619> of<00:38:11.764> enthusiasm,<00:38:13.271> you<00:38:13.303> know,<00:38:13.447> not<00:38:13.671> to<00:38:13.768> sort<00:38:13.992> of<00:38:14.088> date<00:38:14.313> myself,<00:38:14.810> but<00:38:14.970> this<00:38:15.146> isn't<00:38:15.371> the<00:38:15.515> first<00:38:15.852> sort<00:38:16.092> of<00:38:16.237> boom<00:38:16.413> and<00:38:16.493> bust<00:38:16.814> I've<00:38:16.894> seen,<00:38:17.840> right?

00:38:18.161 --> 00:38:23.147
I,<00:38:18.738> you<00:38:18.898> know,<00:38:19.074> I'm<00:38:19.443> old<00:38:19.604> enough<00:38:19.780> to<00:38:19.844> have<00:38:19.924> seen<00:38:20.405> sort<00:38:20.662> of<00:38:20.806> 1.0<00:38:21.608> and<00:38:21.704> 2.0<00:38:22.425> sort<00:38:22.650> of<00:38:22.730> come<00:38:22.970> and<00:38:23.051> go.

00:38:24.029 --> 00:38:26.209
And<00:38:24.125> so<00:38:24.894> it<00:38:24.975> doesn't<00:38:25.536> scare<00:38:25.953> me.

00:38:26.818 --> 00:38:30.009
And<00:38:26.979> perhaps<00:38:27.412> it's<00:38:27.540> just<00:38:27.700> a<00:38:27.716> little<00:38:27.876> bit<00:38:27.973> scarier<00:38:28.502> for<00:38:28.678> folks<00:38:28.999> who<00:38:29.223> are<00:38:29.319> sort<00:38:29.544> of<00:38:29.640> newer.

00:38:30.538 --> 00:38:37.727
CEOs<00:38:31.405> and<00:38:31.549> younger<00:38:31.966> to<00:38:32.127> the<00:38:32.207> market<00:38:32.993> and,<00:38:33.491> you<00:38:33.651> know,<00:38:33.812> seeing<00:38:34.133> their<00:38:34.229> first<00:38:34.598> sort<00:38:34.678> of<00:38:35.577> challenging<00:38:36.620> economic<00:38:37.117> environment.

00:38:38.305 --> 00:38:52.987
I<00:38:38.321> mean,<00:38:38.481> certainly<00:38:39.171> I<00:38:39.267> think<00:38:39.733> for<00:38:40.455> a<00:38:40.535> lot<00:38:40.712> of<00:38:40.776> companies,<00:38:41.899> you<00:38:41.931> know,<00:38:42.220> it's—<00:38:43.279> COVID<00:38:43.760> really<00:38:44.065> taught<00:38:44.386> us<00:38:44.563> quite<00:38:44.803> a<00:38:44.884> lot<00:38:45.205> about,<00:38:45.911> you<00:38:45.943> know,<00:38:46.087> what<00:38:46.200> does<00:38:46.328> it<00:38:46.360> mean<00:38:46.488> to<00:38:46.633> be<00:38:46.729> reliant<00:38:47.997> on,<00:38:48.398> you<00:38:48.478> know,<00:38:48.590> certain<00:38:48.895> countries,<00:38:49.906> you<00:38:49.954> know,<00:38:50.179> the<00:38:50.323> dependency<00:38:50.981> on<00:38:51.078> the<00:38:51.142> supply<00:38:51.623> chain<00:38:52.089> that<00:38:52.249> you<00:38:52.345> have<00:38:52.586> today.

00:38:53.773 --> 00:38:58.989
And<00:38:54.175> so<00:38:54.736> we<00:38:54.977> learned,<00:38:55.458> for<00:38:55.555> example,<00:38:56.180> to<00:38:56.919> try<00:38:57.095> to<00:38:57.223> diversify<00:38:58.299> our<00:38:58.379> supply<00:38:58.829> chain.

00:38:59.166 --> 00:39:05.508
So<00:38:59.407> for<00:38:59.712> us,<00:38:59.888> for<00:38:59.969> example,<00:39:00.595> we<00:39:00.755> had,<00:39:01.301> you<00:39:01.333> know,<00:39:01.655> a<00:39:01.719> manufacturer<00:39:02.377> in<00:39:02.602> Hong<00:39:02.778> Kong,<00:39:03.662> we<00:39:03.806> had<00:39:03.902> a<00:39:03.918> manufacturer<00:39:04.850> in<00:39:04.946> China.

00:39:06.792 --> 00:39:11.465
You<00:39:06.889> know,<00:39:07.178> when<00:39:07.338> the<00:39:07.435> shutdowns<00:39:07.932> occur<00:39:08.238> for<00:39:08.478> COVID,<00:39:09.105> it<00:39:09.201> really<00:39:10.245> worried<00:39:10.566> us<00:39:10.726> tremendously.

00:39:12.011 --> 00:39:20.328
You<00:39:12.091> know,<00:39:12.557> it<00:39:13.520> made<00:39:13.761> us<00:39:13.921> think<00:39:14.082> about,<00:39:14.403> you<00:39:14.435> know,<00:39:14.660> look,<00:39:14.885> there's<00:39:15.045> a<00:39:15.077> 25%<00:39:15.768> tariff<00:39:16.490> on<00:39:17.068> things<00:39:17.293> that<00:39:17.373> are<00:39:17.406> shipped<00:39:17.630> from<00:39:17.791> China<00:39:18.112> because<00:39:18.417> I<00:39:18.433> don't<00:39:18.658> think<00:39:18.754> that's<00:39:18.931> going<00:39:19.027> to<00:39:19.156> change<00:39:19.413> anytime<00:39:19.798> soon.

00:39:20.665 --> 00:39:33.133
That's<00:39:20.842> so<00:39:21.002> for<00:39:21.227> Hong<00:39:21.403> Kong<00:39:21.644> because<00:39:21.949> it's<00:39:22.126> a,<00:39:22.608> you<00:39:22.945> know,<00:39:23.667> a<00:39:23.796> in<00:39:24.053> a<00:39:24.198> country<00:39:24.535> that's<00:39:24.776> not<00:39:25.724> a<00:39:25.740> concern,<00:39:26.785> but<00:39:27.251> how<00:39:27.347> do<00:39:27.508> we<00:39:27.588> diversify<00:39:28.746> our<00:39:28.954> supply<00:39:29.437> chain<00:39:29.758> so<00:39:29.935> that<00:39:30.224> our<00:39:30.320> products<00:39:31.028> can<00:39:31.269> actually<00:39:31.606> get<00:39:31.767> to<00:39:31.911> the<00:39:31.992> customers<00:39:32.554> that<00:39:32.715> need<00:39:32.860> them?

00:39:33.536 --> 00:39:50.636
Because<00:39:33.842> we<00:39:33.939> really<00:39:34.180> take<00:39:34.728> fully<00:39:34.986> the<00:39:35.131> responsibility<00:39:35.936> of<00:39:35.968> knowing<00:39:36.436> that,<00:39:36.999> you<00:39:37.064> know,<00:39:37.160> because<00:39:37.579> there's<00:39:37.950> 1<00:39:38.127> in<00:39:38.207> 4<00:39:38.449> Americans<00:39:39.093> that's<00:39:39.416> an<00:39:39.641> elderly<00:39:39.979> person<00:39:40.285> and<00:39:40.543> we<00:39:40.769> have<00:39:41.010> to<00:39:41.671> make<00:39:41.800> their,<00:39:42.555> you<00:39:42.635> know,<00:39:43.599> independent<00:39:44.001> living<00:39:44.418> safe,<00:39:46.395> then<00:39:46.716> we<00:39:46.893> really<00:39:47.134> don't<00:39:47.343> want<00:39:47.439> to<00:39:47.471> see<00:39:47.680> a<00:39:47.696> cessation<00:39:48.644> of,<00:39:48.981> you<00:39:49.062> know,<00:39:49.158> supplies<00:39:49.704> to<00:39:49.849> our<00:39:50.026> customers.

00:39:50.749 --> 00:40:06.366
And<00:39:50.845> so<00:39:51.622> that<00:39:51.788> has<00:39:52.137> actually<00:39:52.453> had<00:39:52.719> us,<00:39:52.885> for<00:39:53.018> example,<00:39:53.533> look<00:39:53.706> at,<00:39:53.883> you<00:39:54.525> know,<00:39:54.622> starting<00:39:55.168> a<00:39:55.312> relationship<00:39:56.035> with<00:39:56.132> a<00:39:56.148> manufacturer<00:39:56.694> in<00:39:56.774> the<00:39:56.919> US<00:39:57.497> as<00:39:57.658> well,<00:39:58.542> which<00:39:58.702> I<00:39:58.783> think<00:39:59.008> coincides<00:39:59.650> quite<00:39:59.907> well<00:40:00.229> with,<00:40:00.678> you<00:40:00.711> know,<00:40:00.871> this<00:40:01.032> country's<00:40:01.514> interest<00:40:01.915> in<00:40:02.060> trying<00:40:02.237> to<00:40:02.381> do<00:40:02.960> and<00:40:03.040> bring<00:40:03.281> back<00:40:03.522> more<00:40:03.683> manufacturing<00:40:04.325> and<00:40:04.406> technology<00:40:04.904> manufacturing<00:40:05.594> back<00:40:05.771> to<00:40:05.916> the<00:40:05.996> States.

00:40:06.414 --> 00:40:09.241
And<00:40:06.574> so<00:40:07.362> we're<00:40:07.779> really<00:40:08.004> quite<00:40:08.197> aligned<00:40:08.502> to<00:40:08.663> that<00:40:08.824> as<00:40:09.049> well.

00:40:09.466 --> 00:40:10.719
And<00:40:09.531> so<00:40:09.691> that's<00:40:09.932> been<00:40:10.045> a<00:40:10.109> positive.

00:40:11.169 --> 00:40:21.226
So<00:40:11.475> from<00:40:11.699> a<00:40:12.197> macroeconomics<00:40:13.145> level,<00:40:13.563> I<00:40:13.643> think<00:40:13.965> that,<00:40:14.752> you<00:40:14.784> know,<00:40:14.848> some<00:40:15.073> of<00:40:15.105> these<00:40:15.330> things<00:40:15.796> are<00:40:15.893> positives<00:40:16.535> to<00:40:16.680> see<00:40:16.937> sort<00:40:17.178> of<00:40:17.258> that<00:40:17.435> movement<00:40:18.045> of,<00:40:18.302> you<00:40:18.447> know,<00:40:18.624> manufacturing<00:40:19.266> back<00:40:19.427> to<00:40:19.523> the<00:40:19.668> US<00:40:20.054> is<00:40:20.150> a<00:40:20.166> really<00:40:20.552> bit<00:40:20.712> positive.

00:40:21.901 --> 00:40:26.703
Um,<00:40:22.238> and<00:40:22.318> I<00:40:22.463> think<00:40:22.704> that,<00:40:22.881> you<00:40:22.977> know,<00:40:23.828> that<00:40:23.941> sort<00:40:24.165> of<00:40:24.728> what<00:40:24.888> we're<00:40:24.969> seeing<00:40:25.226> is<00:40:25.370> a<00:40:25.450> bit<00:40:25.595> of<00:40:25.691> a<00:40:25.707> market<00:40:26.093> correction.

00:40:26.816 --> 00:40:36.742
You<00:40:26.896> know,<00:40:27.040> there<00:40:27.137> was<00:40:27.378> a<00:40:27.458> lot<00:40:27.635> of<00:40:27.779> enthusiasm<00:40:28.582> in<00:40:28.663> the<00:40:28.743> market,<00:40:29.851> and<00:40:30.189> I<00:40:30.269> think<00:40:30.494> there<00:40:30.574> were<00:40:30.606> a<00:40:30.670> lot<00:40:30.847> of<00:40:30.911> people<00:40:31.152> in<00:40:31.233> the<00:40:31.313> market<00:40:31.634> that<00:40:31.875> didn't,<00:40:33.802> you<00:40:33.883> know,<00:40:34.043> really<00:40:34.268> understand<00:40:34.734> the<00:40:34.766> fundamentals<00:40:35.489> of<00:40:35.906> some<00:40:36.147> of<00:40:36.212> the<00:40:36.292> companies.

00:40:36.854 --> 00:40:46.379
And<00:40:36.950> so,<00:40:37.818> you<00:40:37.978> know,<00:40:38.396> if<00:40:39.167> this<00:40:39.328> sort<00:40:39.424> of<00:40:39.504> correction<00:40:39.970> in<00:40:40.002> the<00:40:40.066> market<00:40:40.532> takes<00:40:40.869> out<00:40:41.030> people<00:40:41.512> who<00:40:42.556> probably<00:40:42.877> shouldn't<00:40:43.198> be<00:40:43.295> in<00:40:43.359> the<00:40:43.439> market<00:40:43.761> in<00:40:43.841> the<00:40:43.921> first<00:40:44.242> place,<00:40:44.483> then<00:40:44.644> that<00:40:44.869> may<00:40:45.190> be<00:40:45.286> a<00:40:45.367> positive,<00:40:46.314> right?

00:40:46.957 --> 00:40:56.089
You<00:40:47.117> really<00:40:47.438> want<00:40:47.615> people<00:40:47.936> who<00:40:48.016> are<00:40:48.176> strong<00:40:48.738> and<00:40:48.915> smart<00:40:49.765> and,<00:40:50.407> you<00:40:50.439> know,<00:40:50.680> interested<00:40:51.065> investors,<00:40:52.253> because<00:40:52.815> really<00:40:53.312> you<00:40:53.473> want<00:40:53.633> them<00:40:53.794> to<00:40:53.874> invest<00:40:54.275> in<00:40:54.340> your<00:40:54.516> long-term<00:40:55.222> growth<00:40:55.543> in<00:40:55.624> the<00:40:55.704> company.

00:40:56.683 --> 00:41:01.594
So<00:40:57.405> I<00:40:57.485> don't<00:40:57.678> know<00:40:57.806> if<00:40:57.887> I<00:40:57.967> see<00:40:58.127> as<00:40:58.272> a<00:40:58.304> negative,<00:40:58.769> but<00:40:58.994> do<00:40:59.155> I<00:40:59.251> think,<00:40:59.572> you<00:40:59.652> know,<00:40:59.732> my<00:40:59.829> CFO<00:41:00.358> would<00:41:00.439> have<00:41:00.615> a<00:41:00.679> different<00:41:01.016> answer<00:41:01.321> for<00:41:01.498> you?

00:41:01.963 --> 00:41:03.504
Absolutely.

00:41:04.210 --> 00:41:05.398
I<00:41:04.291> can't<00:41:04.531> thank<00:41:04.644> you<00:41:04.708> enough<00:41:04.868> for<00:41:05.013> joining<00:41:05.334> us.

00:41:05.446 --> 00:41:08.688
Seriously,<00:41:06.393> this<00:41:06.554> has<00:41:06.650> been<00:41:06.875> an<00:41:06.923> incredible,<00:41:07.838> incredible<00:41:08.239> conversation.

00:41:08.801 --> 00:41:12.219
I<00:41:08.865> want<00:41:08.961> to<00:41:09.041> be<00:41:09.186> respectful<00:41:09.587> of<00:41:09.667> your<00:41:09.764> time,<00:41:10.165> and<00:41:10.309> so<00:41:10.486> we<00:41:10.711> ask<00:41:10.951> every<00:41:11.433> guest<00:41:11.690> the<00:41:11.834> same<00:41:12.075> question.

00:41:12.300 --> 00:41:19.186
Question<00:41:13.056> at<00:41:13.201> the<00:41:13.297> end<00:41:13.458> of<00:41:13.603> every<00:41:13.860> interview,<00:41:14.423> and<00:41:14.504> that<00:41:14.729> is,<00:41:15.051> like,<00:41:15.228> we<00:41:15.389> believe<00:41:15.646> at<00:41:15.775> CEO.com<00:41:16.515> that<00:41:16.596> the<00:41:16.741> chances<00:41:17.079> we<00:41:17.239> give<00:41:17.561> are<00:41:17.642> just<00:41:17.883> as<00:41:17.964> important<00:41:18.285> as<00:41:18.350> the<00:41:18.430> chances<00:41:18.768> we<00:41:18.929> take.

00:41:19.860 --> 00:41:25.893
I<00:41:19.876> wonder,<00:41:20.456> when<00:41:20.682> you<00:41:20.860> hear<00:41:21.408> that,<00:41:22.634> who<00:41:22.795> comes<00:41:23.037> to<00:41:23.118> mind<00:41:23.441> that<00:41:23.521> gave<00:41:23.844> you<00:41:24.021> a<00:41:24.086> chance<00:41:24.489> to<00:41:24.634> get<00:41:24.876> you<00:41:24.973> to<00:41:25.054> where<00:41:25.280> you<00:41:25.457> are<00:41:25.538> today?

00:41:27.557 --> 00:41:31.702
You<00:41:27.638> know,<00:41:27.799> that's<00:41:28.138> really<00:41:28.444> a<00:41:28.525> great<00:41:28.702> question,<00:41:29.654> um,<00:41:30.493> so<00:41:30.702> thank<00:41:30.864> you<00:41:30.944> for<00:41:31.106> asking<00:41:31.380> that.

00:41:31.831 --> 00:41:40.795
I<00:41:31.928> actually<00:41:32.719> would<00:41:32.831> say<00:41:33.219> that,<00:41:33.928> um,<00:41:34.977> you<00:41:35.009> know,<00:41:35.412> it's<00:41:35.719> two<00:41:35.880> people<00:41:36.364> that<00:41:36.509> I<00:41:36.525> actually<00:41:36.993> see,<00:41:38.423> And<00:41:38.503> I<00:41:38.583> can<00:41:38.775> name<00:41:39.224> like<00:41:39.385> 3<00:41:39.545> people<00:41:39.785> I<00:41:39.865> can<00:41:40.010> name<00:41:40.186> names<00:41:40.491> on.

00:41:40.907 --> 00:41:44.082
One,<00:41:41.388> in<00:41:41.452> the<00:41:41.613> early<00:41:41.853> part<00:41:42.014> of<00:41:42.046> my<00:41:42.174> career,<00:41:42.430> is<00:41:42.655> a<00:41:42.751> gentleman<00:41:43.184> named<00:41:43.392> Bill<00:41:43.553> Holtzman.

00:41:44.819 --> 00:41:48.330
I<00:41:45.075> think<00:41:45.556> I<00:41:45.621> was<00:41:45.717> an<00:41:45.941> early<00:41:46.182> young<00:41:46.358> employee<00:41:46.983> in<00:41:47.079> a<00:41:47.160> pre-IPO<00:41:47.881> company.

00:41:48.522 --> 00:41:56.441
And<00:41:48.666> he<00:41:48.827> was<00:41:48.923> the<00:41:49.083> one<00:41:49.308> who<00:41:49.564> really<00:41:49.885> pushed<00:41:50.302> me<00:41:50.446> because<00:41:51.632> I<00:41:51.648> was<00:41:51.889> chasing<00:41:53.155> money<00:41:53.476> because<00:41:53.893> my<00:41:54.053> parents<00:41:54.389> were<00:41:54.454> like,<00:41:54.758> hey,<00:41:54.919> you<00:41:54.951> need<00:41:55.095> to<00:41:55.175> be<00:41:55.207> able<00:41:55.319> to<00:41:55.351> support<00:41:55.720> yourself,<00:41:56.137> right?

00:41:57.243 --> 00:42:00.321
And<00:41:57.644> I<00:41:57.660> had<00:41:57.916> an<00:41:58.061> offer<00:41:58.365> to<00:41:58.461> go<00:41:58.606> to<00:41:58.702> a<00:41:58.718> larger<00:41:59.022> company<00:41:59.584> but<00:41:59.808> less<00:41:59.904> stock.

00:42:00.369 --> 00:42:03.223
And<00:42:00.626> he<00:42:00.770> was<00:42:00.882> the<00:42:01.010> one<00:42:01.171> who<00:42:01.347> really<00:42:01.491> taught<00:42:01.668> me<00:42:01.748> like,<00:42:01.972> hey,<00:42:02.373> invest<00:42:02.710> in<00:42:02.774> yourself.

00:42:03.992 --> 00:42:07.812
Going<00:42:04.233> to<00:42:05.020> a<00:42:05.036> company<00:42:05.373> that's<00:42:05.533> a<00:42:05.597> startup<00:42:06.079> is<00:42:06.223> an<00:42:06.304> investment<00:42:06.737> in<00:42:06.865> yourself<00:42:07.299> and<00:42:07.443> learning.

00:42:08.342 --> 00:42:09.931
So<00:42:08.470> I<00:42:08.647> really<00:42:08.872> credit<00:42:09.128> Bill<00:42:09.305> for<00:42:09.514> that.

00:42:10.477 --> 00:42:28.292
I<00:42:10.894> really<00:42:11.199> credit<00:42:12.162> Don<00:42:12.338> Katz,<00:42:12.788> who<00:42:12.884> I<00:42:12.900> spoke<00:42:13.301> about,<00:42:14.088> for<00:42:14.248> taking<00:42:14.569> a<00:42:14.585> chance<00:42:15.147> on<00:42:15.292> a<00:42:15.372> young<00:42:15.950> MBA<00:42:16.367> student<00:42:16.897> who<00:42:17.314> knew<00:42:17.410> nothing<00:42:17.811> about<00:42:18.100> mobile,<00:42:18.839> but<00:42:18.983> was<00:42:19.079> the<00:42:19.160> kind<00:42:19.384> of<00:42:19.737> leader<00:42:20.042> that<00:42:20.139> was<00:42:20.283> not<00:42:20.524> scared<00:42:21.583> about<00:42:21.792> hiring<00:42:22.113> people<00:42:22.434> who<00:42:22.466> didn't<00:42:22.996> necessarily<00:42:23.493> have<00:42:23.670> domain<00:42:24.215> knowledge<00:42:24.761> expertise,<00:42:25.901> but<00:42:26.141> he<00:42:27.024> liked<00:42:27.265> to<00:42:27.345> hire<00:42:27.602> smart<00:42:27.907> people.

00:42:29.979 --> 00:42:32.428
He<00:42:30.076> believed<00:42:30.398> that<00:42:30.495> if<00:42:30.559> you<00:42:30.640> hire<00:42:30.817> smart<00:42:31.123> people,<00:42:31.445> they're<00:42:31.606> going<00:42:31.767> to<00:42:31.800> do<00:42:31.912> great<00:42:32.090> work.

00:42:32.573 --> 00:42:38.902
And<00:42:32.669> so<00:42:33.137> what<00:42:33.298> a<00:42:33.604> wonderful<00:42:34.119> sort<00:42:34.345> of<00:42:34.925> selfless<00:42:35.472> leader<00:42:35.875> and<00:42:36.423> amazing<00:42:37.148> courageous<00:42:37.647> leader<00:42:37.969> to<00:42:38.066> sort<00:42:38.275> of<00:42:38.340> do<00:42:38.452> that.

00:42:39.722 --> 00:42:47.146
And<00:42:39.898> finally,<00:42:42.068> somebody<00:42:42.534> who<00:42:42.646> sadly<00:42:43.096> is<00:42:43.193> no<00:42:43.289> longer<00:42:43.595> with<00:42:43.836> us,<00:42:44.543> I<00:42:44.639> worked<00:42:44.864> for<00:42:45.025> an<00:42:45.362> amazing<00:42:45.828> gentleman<00:42:46.166> named<00:42:46.407> Robert<00:42:46.809> Acker.

00:42:48.097 --> 00:42:54.104
And<00:42:48.145> so<00:42:48.275> Robert<00:42:48.825> was<00:42:50.072> somebody<00:42:50.461> I<00:42:50.687> learned<00:42:51.092> a<00:42:51.108> lot<00:42:51.675> about<00:42:52.064> in<00:42:52.161> terms<00:42:52.420> of<00:42:52.550> being<00:42:52.728> an<00:42:52.987> empathetic<00:42:53.456> leader<00:42:53.780> from.

00:42:54.736 --> 00:42:56.355
He<00:42:54.897> was<00:42:55.011> a<00:42:55.140> person<00:42:55.464> who<00:42:55.626> led<00:42:55.804> by<00:42:56.031> example.

00:42:57.243 --> 00:43:15.637
