# Play the tape in reverse

Amena Ali took the top job at Optoro in [December 2022](https://www.optoro.com/returns-news/optoro-appoints-amena-ali-as-chief-executive-officer/?ref=ceo.com). The two founders had run it for 15 years. She was 58\. By [August 2025](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20250818415001/en/Blue-Yonder-Acquires-Optoro-to-Further-Transform-Returns-Management-and-Extend-Capabilities?ref=ceo.com), the company was sold to Blue Yonder, a supply chain software company on an acquisition streak, for a price nobody has disclosed.

That is the whole arc, and it is one she has run before. Ali ran VividCortex, a database monitoring company, when [SolarWinds bought it](https://investors.solarwinds.com/news/news-details/2019/SolarWinds-Set-to-Cover-the-Databases-Through-Acquisition-of-VividCortex-and-Introduction-of-New-Monitoring-Solution-Designed-for-Cloud-Native-Databases/default.aspx?ref=ceo.com) in December 2019 for [$117.5 million](https://www.solarwinds.com/blog/thoughts-on-the-vividcortex-acquisition?ref=ceo.com). She then ran Airside Mobile, a digital identity company, which [sold to Onfido](https://www.entrust.com/company/newsroom/onfido-acquires-airside?ref=ceo.com) in May 2023, five months after she had moved on. "This is my third company as a CEO, where I've come in specifically when the company's at a juncture, when it's ready to be scaled, to take over from the founders and really grow the business," she told the CEO.com Podcast. She said it the way someone describes a trade they have mastered.

Optoro's trade is returns. Ali admitted she had never thought about the subject before she took the job. Most people haven't. You order a jacket, it doesn't fit, you send it back, and the transaction ends for you. For the retailer, it has just begun. "When you play that tape in reverse, just like the tape would sound kind of funny, you've got a whole other situation," Ali said. Apparel and footwear come back at a rate of 30 percent. Around $750 billion of goods were returned in 2023\. Each item lands in a warehouse in front of an hourly worker who has to decide whether it is still new; a shirt that's new is not new for a coffee maker.

Optoro's software makes that decision for the worker, then decides where the item goes: back on the shelf, to repair, to a liquidator, to a flea market, to a charity. The customers are Gap, American Eagle, Best Buy. The pitch is that anything less rigorous means throwing away 30 percent of revenue and filling a landfill. Retailers cannot simply stop accepting returns, because shoppers read the policy before they buy. "You want to shop with confidence," Ali said.

The part of the interview worth listening to is fraud. Return fraud roughly doubled in a few years, Ali said, to more than 11 percent of returned goods, about $101 billion a year. Some of it is "wardrobing," wearing a dress to the party and mailing it back Monday. Some of it is the box of rocks.

The obvious response is to inspect everything. Ali thinks that is a mistake. It costs a fortune and makes every honest customer pay for the dishonest ones. Her alternative is a trust score. The system knows how you shop and how you return, and it treats you accordingly. She compared it to boarding an airplane: diamond, platinum, group five. "How do you make sure that the bad guys' experience is confined to them and everyone else can transact?" She also reached for the old New Yorker cartoon. On the internet, nobody knows you're a dog. The retailer's problem is figuring out who is a dog and who isn't.

Ali likes a parable. She quoted Stephen Covey's jar of rocks on prioritization and the proverb about going fast alone or far together. Optoro's four values, which she recited in full, are to make an impact, go far together, shed more light than heat, and enjoy the journey. She lingered on the third. "We really want to bring rationality, data, perspective, and judgment. Rather than just blind anger and emotion, I feel like there's way too much of that in our country."

She reads the Journal and the Times every morning and was partway through *The Other Wes Moore*, which she got in a bag of books Jamie Dimon handed out at a conference. Her husband, a 30-year startup veteran, had just retired and written a guide for employees called *The Startup Lottery* on how to tell whether a startup will pay off.

Her own record suggests she can tell. The interview cannot answer what Blue Yonder was buying, because it was recorded before the sale. Ali spent much of the hour describing the disposition engine that now instructs warehouse robots which channel to route an item to, and the machine vision that checks whether the sweatpants in the box are the hoodie on the label. That is the technology. Blue Yonder has since [set up a Commerce and Returns business unit](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20251106168427/en/Blue-Yonder-Releases-Q3-2025-Company-Highlights-and-Showcases-Q4-2025-Industry-Insights?ref=ceo.com) and promoted its head of returns, the executive quoted announcing the Optoro deal, to run it. Ali's [own summary](https://www.linkedin.com/in/amenaali/?ref=ceo.com) of what she did in under three years: made returns easier, expanded partnerships, turned Optoro into a SaaS company. That is the founder's company rebuilt into something a strategic acquirer could price.

Before software, Ali spent 10 years in finance and marketing at a telecom and, before that, was a consultant at Bain. [She has held](https://www.optoro.com/leadership/amena-ali/?ref=ceo.com) senior roles at Legato, Softek, and Earth Networks and has served on the board of Liquibase. Forbes put her on its [50 Over 50](https://www.forbes.com/profile/amena-ali/?ref=ceo.com) list in 2023\. [Entrepreneur profiled her](https://www.entrepreneur.com/leadership/she-leads-a-business-thats-making-online-returns-easier/481403?ref=ceo.com) the following year.

The CEO.com Podcast ends every conversation with the same question: who gave you a chance? Ali went back to the day she left telecom for storage software, an industry she knew nothing about, because someone decided to bet on her anyway.

"Ultimately, mechanical skills are easy to get," she said, "but having that kind of confidence and taking a chance on a person and their character is ultimately not only what'll pay off for you but what'll be hugely valuable as you see that person go forth."

00:00:25.377 --> 00:00:26.965
There's<00:00:25.682> so<00:00:25.794> many<00:00:26.003> valuable<00:00:26.420> insights.

00:00:27.030 --> 00:00:28.890
Without<00:00:27.369> further<00:00:27.531> ado,<00:00:27.952> here's<00:00:28.130> Amanah<00:00:28.663> Ali.

00:00:35.057 --> 00:00:41.248
Amanah,<00:00:39.363> thank<00:00:39.607> you<00:00:39.688> so<00:00:39.948> much<00:00:40.338> for<00:00:40.501> coming<00:00:40.761> on<00:00:40.842> the<00:00:40.923> show.

00:00:42.066 --> 00:00:48.454
I<00:00:42.227> want<00:00:42.630> to<00:00:42.969> get<00:00:43.130> a<00:00:43.146> sense<00:00:43.534> for<00:00:43.840> how<00:00:44.082> you're<00:00:44.243> thinking<00:00:44.598> about<00:00:44.905> things<00:00:46.502> as<00:00:46.598> CEO<00:00:46.986> of<00:00:47.082> Optoro<00:00:47.792> and<00:00:47.873> all<00:00:47.905> that<00:00:48.050> type<00:00:48.131> of<00:00:48.276> stuff.

00:00:48.534 --> 00:00:52.258
Maybe<00:00:48.857> we<00:00:48.938> start<00:00:49.341> with<00:00:49.970> how<00:00:50.131> you<00:00:50.163> became<00:00:50.551> CEO,<00:00:51.196> how<00:00:51.341> you<00:00:51.438> got<00:00:51.664> to<00:00:51.744> where<00:00:51.841> you<00:00:51.926> are<00:00:52.037> today.

00:00:53.534 --> 00:00:56.162
Yeah,<00:00:53.875> thank<00:00:54.037> you<00:00:54.118> so<00:00:54.443> much<00:00:54.751> for<00:00:54.929> having<00:00:55.254> me<00:00:55.400> on<00:00:55.481> your<00:00:55.578> show,<00:00:55.902> Clint.

00:00:56.243 --> 00:00:58.660
It's<00:00:56.454> a<00:00:56.940> pleasure<00:00:57.427> to<00:00:57.605> be<00:00:57.768> with<00:00:57.914> you<00:00:58.092> here<00:00:58.319> today.

00:01:00.192 --> 00:01:06.960
I've<00:01:00.338> had<00:01:00.661> a<00:01:02.297> winding<00:01:02.863> journey<00:01:03.916> through<00:01:04.159> technology<00:01:05.195> over<00:01:05.357> the<00:01:05.438> past<00:01:06.004> 25<00:01:06.603> years.

00:01:08.287 --> 00:01:22.475
I've<00:01:08.368> started<00:01:08.757> off—<00:01:09.665> well,<00:01:10.297> initially<00:01:10.718> started<00:01:11.188> off<00:01:11.610> in<00:01:11.772> management<00:01:12.242> consulting<00:01:13.539> and<00:01:13.636> then<00:01:14.041> did<00:01:15.609> finance<00:01:16.417> and<00:01:16.594> marketing<00:01:17.467> for<00:01:17.644> about<00:01:17.984> 10<00:01:18.274> years<00:01:18.775> at<00:01:18.937> a<00:01:19.082> telecom<00:01:19.567> company<00:01:20.391> and<00:01:20.472> then<00:01:20.633> stepped<00:01:21.053> into<00:01:21.279> the<00:01:21.360> world<00:01:21.683> of<00:01:21.764> software<00:01:21.990> about<00:01:22.071> 25<00:01:22.216> years<00:01:22.329> ago.

00:01:24.907 --> 00:01:40.371
And,<00:01:25.308> uh,<00:01:25.629> made<00:01:25.886> my<00:01:26.110> way<00:01:26.367> through<00:01:26.992> all<00:01:27.185> of<00:01:27.313> the<00:01:27.393> functional<00:01:27.891> disciplines,<00:01:28.516> pretty<00:01:28.693> much,<00:01:29.479> um,<00:01:29.816> from<00:01:30.682> marketing<00:01:31.580> to<00:01:31.741> product<00:01:32.767> to<00:01:32.848> finance<00:01:33.666> to<00:01:33.762> sales<00:01:34.468> and<00:01:34.628> business<00:01:34.933> development,<00:01:36.297> uh,<00:01:36.634> to<00:01:36.730> CRO<00:01:37.676> and<00:01:37.821> then<00:01:37.933> CEO<00:01:39.024> at<00:01:39.361> a<00:01:39.441> couple<00:01:39.746> of<00:01:39.842> companies.

00:01:40.564 --> 00:01:53.750
And<00:01:40.724> this<00:01:40.901> is<00:01:41.045> my<00:01:41.270> third<00:01:41.510> company<00:01:43.034> as<00:01:43.195> a<00:01:43.227> CEO,<00:01:43.836> where<00:01:43.997> I've<00:01:44.157> come<00:01:44.398> in,<00:01:45.200> uh,<00:01:45.473> specifically<00:01:46.339> when<00:01:46.499> the<00:01:46.644> company's<00:01:47.141> at<00:01:47.221> a<00:01:47.301> juncture,<00:01:47.927> when<00:01:48.023> it's<00:01:48.248> ready<00:01:48.569> to<00:01:48.665> be<00:01:48.761> scaled,<00:01:49.772> to,<00:01:50.494> uh,<00:01:50.895> take<00:01:51.151> over<00:01:51.472> from<00:01:51.633> the<00:01:51.777> founders<00:01:52.515> and<00:01:52.675> really<00:01:52.996> grow<00:01:53.237> the<00:01:53.381> business.

00:01:53.798 --> 00:02:00.460
So<00:01:54.504> that's<00:01:55.306> my<00:01:55.868> winding<00:01:56.366> path<00:01:56.832> and<00:01:57.024> how<00:01:57.249> I<00:01:57.329> ended<00:01:57.634> up<00:01:57.795> at<00:01:57.972> Optoro<00:01:58.951> about<00:01:59.336> a<00:01:59.481> year<00:01:59.641> and<00:01:59.722> a<00:01:59.738> half<00:01:59.979> ago<00:02:00.219> now.

00:02:01.119 --> 00:02:02.355
So<00:02:01.327> what<00:02:01.440> does<00:02:01.648> Optoro<00:02:02.146> do?

00:02:03.575 --> 00:02:09.146
Yeah,<00:02:03.848> so<00:02:04.378> Optoro<00:02:05.116> is<00:02:05.341> a<00:02:05.438> leader<00:02:06.401> in<00:02:06.545> the<00:02:06.706> returns<00:02:07.605> and<00:02:07.766> reverse<00:02:08.312> logistics<00:02:08.954> space.

00:02:09.227 --> 00:02:17.222
So<00:02:10.335> imagine<00:02:10.880> for<00:02:11.057> a<00:02:11.121> moment<00:02:12.085> all<00:02:12.325> of<00:02:12.422> the<00:02:12.566> product<00:02:13.000> that<00:02:13.144> you're<00:02:13.369> ordering<00:02:13.867> online,<00:02:14.509> probably<00:02:14.910> a<00:02:14.991> lot<00:02:15.312> more<00:02:15.617> as<00:02:15.793> a<00:02:15.874> result<00:02:16.339> of<00:02:16.436> the<00:02:16.516> pandemic.

00:02:17.800 --> 00:02:20.610
You<00:02:17.977> try<00:02:18.282> on<00:02:18.427> those<00:02:18.683> products<00:02:19.872> or<00:02:20.112> you<00:02:20.273> get<00:02:20.466> them.

00:02:20.787 --> 00:02:26.631
Maybe<00:02:21.012> it's<00:02:21.236> not<00:02:21.557> trial<00:02:22.055> like<00:02:22.280> apparel<00:02:22.697> or<00:02:22.842> footwear,<00:02:23.516> maybe<00:02:23.741> it's<00:02:23.902> electronics<00:02:24.560> or<00:02:24.640> something,<00:02:25.668> and<00:02:25.748> then<00:02:25.909> you<00:02:26.069> return<00:02:26.535> it.

00:02:27.032 --> 00:02:27.962
For<00:02:27.192> whatever<00:02:27.577> reason.

00:02:29.261 --> 00:02:31.602
What<00:02:29.421> happens<00:02:29.774> to<00:02:29.982> all<00:02:30.159> of<00:02:30.239> those<00:02:30.479> goods<00:02:30.864> as<00:02:31.025> they<00:02:31.185> go<00:02:31.361> back?

00:02:31.682 --> 00:02:36.588
That<00:02:31.906> is<00:02:32.003> the<00:02:32.227> art<00:02:32.548> of<00:02:33.365> returns<00:02:33.863> management<00:02:34.392> and<00:02:34.568> more<00:02:34.809> broadly,<00:02:35.450> reverse<00:02:35.995> logistics.

00:02:36.636 --> 00:02:44.317
Logistics<00:02:37.695> were<00:02:37.855> really<00:02:38.176> designed<00:02:38.657> for<00:02:39.282> forward<00:02:39.859> shipment<00:02:40.581> of<00:02:40.805> goods<00:02:41.142> to<00:02:42.104> retailers<00:02:43.130> and<00:02:43.306> to<00:02:43.467> individuals.

00:02:44.429 --> 00:02:45.840
There's<00:02:44.733> a<00:02:44.750> lot<00:02:44.990> of<00:02:45.134> consistency.

00:02:46.593 --> 00:02:49.207
You<00:02:46.690> know<00:02:46.978> what<00:02:47.139> the<00:02:47.235> QA<00:02:47.716> is,<00:02:47.892> you<00:02:47.972> know<00:02:48.181> what<00:02:48.277> the<00:02:48.421> product<00:02:48.982> is.

00:02:50.361 --> 00:03:01.073
When<00:02:50.458> you<00:02:50.666> play<00:02:50.923> that<00:02:51.147> tape<00:02:51.468> in<00:02:51.628> reverse,<00:02:52.285> just<00:02:52.590> like<00:02:52.847> the<00:02:53.312> tape<00:02:53.552> would<00:02:53.648> sound<00:02:54.113> kind<00:02:54.370> of<00:02:54.450> funny,<00:02:55.412> you've<00:02:55.653> got<00:02:55.893> a<00:02:55.957> whole<00:02:56.519> other<00:02:56.711> situation<00:02:57.657> where<00:02:57.882> you<00:02:57.978> need<00:02:58.218> to<00:02:59.084> receive<00:02:59.662> and<00:02:59.742> manage<00:03:00.223> these<00:03:00.544> returns.

00:03:01.249 --> 00:03:04.809
And<00:03:01.730> it's<00:03:01.907> a<00:03:01.987> huge<00:03:02.308> challenge<00:03:02.853> from<00:03:03.045> a<00:03:03.174> reverse<00:03:03.510> logistics<00:03:04.136> perspective.

00:03:04.857 --> 00:03:12.699
And<00:03:05.435> Apturo<00:03:05.916> has<00:03:06.156> been<00:03:06.301> in<00:03:06.397> this<00:03:06.621> space<00:03:07.102> for<00:03:07.599> over<00:03:08.145> a<00:03:08.241> decade<00:03:09.444> working<00:03:09.909> on<00:03:10.005> these<00:03:10.229> issues<00:03:10.727> with<00:03:10.823> the<00:03:10.951> largest<00:03:11.432> of<00:03:11.689> American<00:03:12.154> retailers.

00:03:14.014 --> 00:03:16.836
And<00:03:14.094> I<00:03:14.190> assume<00:03:14.575> there's<00:03:14.800> a<00:03:14.816> lot<00:03:14.976> of<00:03:15.008> machine<00:03:15.521> learning<00:03:15.778> that<00:03:15.922> goes<00:03:16.099> into<00:03:16.275> this,<00:03:16.500> right?

00:03:17.045 --> 00:03:18.937
And<00:03:17.285> how<00:03:17.381> do<00:03:17.542> you<00:03:18.584> use<00:03:18.825> that?

00:03:19.049 --> 00:03:19.979
How<00:03:19.145> do<00:03:19.194> you<00:03:19.370> think<00:03:19.562> about<00:03:19.851> that?

00:03:20.108 --> 00:03:21.727
What<00:03:20.204> do<00:03:20.236> you—<00:03:20.348> what<00:03:20.444> is<00:03:20.589> the<00:03:20.749> future<00:03:21.134> of<00:03:21.230> all<00:03:21.390> of<00:03:21.471> that?

00:03:22.674 --> 00:03:24.168
Yeah,<00:03:23.461> great<00:03:23.702> question.

00:03:25.067 --> 00:03:32.822
One<00:03:25.324> of<00:03:25.484> the<00:03:26.046> biggest<00:03:26.367> challenges<00:03:27.154> when<00:03:27.267> you're<00:03:27.893> receiving<00:03:28.455> a<00:03:28.599> return<00:03:29.081> coming<00:03:29.418> back,<00:03:29.739> let's<00:03:30.060> assume<00:03:30.478> that<00:03:31.024> the<00:03:31.104> shopper<00:03:31.570> has<00:03:31.746> initiated<00:03:32.324> the<00:03:32.469> return.

00:03:32.951 --> 00:03:33.721
That's<00:03:33.256> step<00:03:33.497> one.

00:03:33.994 --> 00:03:35.327
That's<00:03:34.621> got<00:03:34.717> to<00:03:34.797> be<00:03:35.022> easy.

00:03:35.985 --> 00:03:42.199
Let's<00:03:36.242> assume<00:03:36.949> we<00:03:37.109> figured<00:03:37.447> out<00:03:37.591> a<00:03:37.687> way<00:03:38.153> for<00:03:38.394> that<00:03:38.635> shopper<00:03:39.132> to<00:03:39.357> actually<00:03:39.791> start<00:03:40.562> sending<00:03:41.140> that<00:03:41.364> return<00:03:41.862> back.

00:03:42.264 --> 00:03:47.257
So<00:03:42.729> that<00:03:42.906> is<00:03:43.147> multiple<00:03:43.628> transport<00:03:44.255> methods,<00:03:45.218> box-free,<00:03:45.780> label-free<00:03:46.422> drop-offs.

00:03:47.722 --> 00:03:52.852
Consolidated<00:03:48.684> drop-offs<00:03:49.309> to<00:03:49.405> save<00:03:49.806> on<00:03:49.886> transportation<00:03:50.928> and<00:03:51.072> environmental<00:03:51.810> costs<00:03:52.307> as<00:03:52.515> well.

00:03:53.413 --> 00:03:56.330
Then<00:03:53.653> comes<00:03:53.974> a<00:03:54.038> challenge<00:03:54.535> of<00:03:54.695> when<00:03:54.856> it<00:03:55.160> arrives<00:03:55.641> at<00:03:55.737> a<00:03:55.817> warehouse.

00:03:56.603 --> 00:04:11.479
It<00:03:56.763> could<00:03:57.004> be<00:03:57.340> for<00:03:57.565> large<00:03:57.885> customers,<00:03:58.543> enterprises,<00:03:59.264> it's<00:03:59.424> their<00:03:59.584> own<00:03:59.809> warehouse,<00:04:01.027> or<00:04:01.813> even<00:04:01.989> large<00:04:02.294> companies<00:04:02.855> could<00:04:03.095> outsource<00:04:03.736> it<00:04:03.913> to<00:04:04.137> a<00:04:04.233> third-party<00:04:04.858> logistics<00:04:05.419> player,<00:04:05.836> a<00:04:05.981> 3PL,<00:04:07.584> who<00:04:07.680> would<00:04:07.840> then<00:04:08.481> be<00:04:08.642> faced<00:04:08.962> with<00:04:09.058> a<00:04:09.187> challenge<00:04:10.148> of<00:04:10.549> what<00:04:10.661> do<00:04:10.806> I<00:04:10.966> do<00:04:11.126> with<00:04:11.286> this?

00:04:11.832 --> 00:04:25.184
And<00:04:11.928> there's<00:04:12.232> a<00:04:12.328> whole<00:04:12.793> lot<00:04:13.050> of<00:04:13.146> software<00:04:14.236> automation,<00:04:15.679> um,<00:04:16.176> data<00:04:16.432> science,<00:04:17.298> predictive<00:04:17.779> analytics,<00:04:18.500> machine<00:04:18.901> learning,<00:04:19.381> to<00:04:19.541> figure<00:04:19.926> out<00:04:20.326> what<00:04:20.567> is<00:04:20.727> the<00:04:20.823> best<00:04:21.144> home<00:04:21.609> for<00:04:21.785> this<00:04:22.090> product,<00:04:22.587> what<00:04:22.731> is<00:04:22.891> the<00:04:23.212> optimal<00:04:24.110> home<00:04:24.494> for<00:04:24.591> the<00:04:24.751> product.

00:04:25.232 --> 00:04:29.303
I<00:04:25.248> mean,<00:04:25.472> job<00:04:25.793> number<00:04:26.097> one<00:04:26.995> is<00:04:27.620> put<00:04:27.797> it<00:04:27.957> back<00:04:28.342> into<00:04:28.662> inventory.

00:04:29.384 --> 00:04:35.267
In<00:04:29.560> particular,<00:04:30.345> for<00:04:30.506> things<00:04:30.746> like<00:04:30.922> apparel<00:04:31.323> and<00:04:31.467> footwear,<00:04:32.349> you<00:04:32.429> know,<00:04:32.686> the<00:04:33.151> bedroom<00:04:33.567> has<00:04:33.808> become<00:04:34.128> the<00:04:34.209> new<00:04:34.449> dressing<00:04:34.850> room<00:04:35.090> now.

00:04:35.972 --> 00:04:43.714
And<00:04:36.116> if<00:04:36.212> you've<00:04:36.437> talked<00:04:36.709> to<00:04:36.773> any—<00:04:37.399> anybody,<00:04:38.136> they're<00:04:38.441> usually<00:04:39.563> engaging<00:04:40.044> in<00:04:40.140> some<00:04:40.460> sort<00:04:40.717> of<00:04:40.861> combination<00:04:41.502> of<00:04:41.647> online<00:04:42.063> shopping<00:04:42.608> and<00:04:42.769> real-life<00:04:43.185> shopping.

00:04:43.811 --> 00:04:52.694
I've<00:04:43.971> recently<00:04:44.388> talked<00:04:44.708> to<00:04:44.788> a<00:04:44.933> variety<00:04:45.269> of<00:04:45.414> people,<00:04:46.456> um,<00:04:47.033> who<00:04:47.097> are<00:04:47.337> like<00:04:47.530> the<00:04:47.914> $1<00:04:48.139> trillion,<00:04:49.421> um,<00:04:49.934> spent<00:04:50.479> on<00:04:50.784> online<00:04:51.170> shopping<00:04:51.523> of<00:04:51.667> all<00:04:51.908> various<00:04:52.309> kinds.

00:04:53.127 --> 00:04:57.557
So<00:04:53.288> you<00:04:53.384> know<00:04:53.529> what,<00:04:53.914> I<00:04:53.930> don't<00:04:54.090> really<00:04:54.315> don't<00:04:54.476> want<00:04:54.652> to<00:04:54.797> get<00:04:54.957> into<00:04:55.134> my<00:04:55.278> car<00:04:55.535> or<00:04:56.081> take<00:04:56.321> transportation,<00:04:57.124> go<00:04:57.220> to<00:04:57.316> a<00:04:57.380> store.

00:04:57.621 --> 00:04:58.713
I'm<00:04:57.782> just<00:04:57.942> going<00:04:58.039> to<00:04:58.263> order<00:04:58.568> it.

00:04:59.371 --> 00:05:02.452
And<00:04:59.627> so<00:05:00.093> how<00:05:00.205> do<00:05:00.334> you<00:05:00.430> determine<00:05:01.072> what<00:05:01.248> is<00:05:01.473> new<00:05:01.938> and<00:05:02.035> not<00:05:02.356> new?

00:05:03.543 --> 00:05:04.875
That's<00:05:03.977> step<00:05:04.603> one.

00:05:05.148 --> 00:05:16.928
And<00:05:05.261> so<00:05:06.127> that<00:05:06.368> is<00:05:06.512> a<00:05:06.545> very—<00:05:07.154> if<00:05:07.251> you<00:05:07.395> think<00:05:07.572> about<00:05:07.957> it,<00:05:09.000> a<00:05:09.016> very<00:05:09.401> bespoke<00:05:09.963> question,<00:05:10.541> because<00:05:10.942> what's<00:05:11.263> new<00:05:11.648> for<00:05:11.905> a<00:05:11.985> shirt<00:05:12.467> may<00:05:12.611> not<00:05:12.868> be<00:05:13.012> what's<00:05:13.285> new<00:05:13.574> for<00:05:13.815> a<00:05:13.831> coffee<00:05:14.232> maker,<00:05:15.355> not<00:05:15.660> new<00:05:15.901> for<00:05:16.158> a<00:05:16.238> water<00:05:16.559> bottle.

00:05:17.522 --> 00:05:18.708
Whatever<00:05:17.923> the<00:05:18.067> good<00:05:18.323> might<00:05:18.564> be.

00:05:18.788 --> 00:05:21.497
Yeah,<00:05:18.965> that's<00:05:19.189> a<00:05:19.285> complicated<00:05:20.327> question<00:05:20.728> to<00:05:20.888> answer,<00:05:21.193> actually.

00:05:22.475 --> 00:05:23.020
It<00:05:22.635> is.

00:05:23.277 --> 00:05:27.509
And<00:05:23.437> can<00:05:23.597> you<00:05:23.693> imagine<00:05:24.479> these<00:05:24.880> hourly<00:05:25.441> operators<00:05:26.242> working<00:05:26.579> in<00:05:26.659> these<00:05:26.899> warehouses?

00:05:27.685 --> 00:05:28.999
How<00:05:27.941> are<00:05:28.102> they<00:05:28.230> going<00:05:28.342> to<00:05:28.486> remember?

00:05:29.528 --> 00:05:36.085
Well,<00:05:30.089> if<00:05:30.266> it's,<00:05:30.731> uh,<00:05:31.051> this<00:05:31.308> branded<00:05:31.709> shirt,<00:05:32.430> here's<00:05:32.815> the<00:05:32.975> rules,<00:05:33.632> and<00:05:33.728> if<00:05:33.889> it's<00:05:34.097> this<00:05:34.354> branded<00:05:34.754> pants,<00:05:35.299> here's<00:05:35.636> the<00:05:35.860> rules.

00:05:36.518 --> 00:05:36.982
They<00:05:36.662> can't.

00:05:37.063 --> 00:05:38.602
You—<00:05:37.319> they<00:05:37.544> really<00:05:37.800> need<00:05:38.105> software.

00:05:38.698 --> 00:05:48.604
So<00:05:38.922> that's<00:05:39.195> step<00:05:39.483> one,<00:05:40.221> is<00:05:40.381> to<00:05:40.525> say,<00:05:41.471> how<00:05:41.727> can<00:05:41.904> you<00:05:42.112> have<00:05:43.186> software<00:05:44.036> aid<00:05:44.453> people,<00:05:45.559> um,<00:05:46.280> these<00:05:46.520> operators,<00:05:47.242> in<00:05:47.338> determining<00:05:48.123> what's<00:05:48.460> new?

00:05:49.502 --> 00:05:54.485
And<00:05:50.047> the<00:05:50.303> quicker<00:05:50.768> you<00:05:50.928> can<00:05:51.104> do<00:05:51.264> that,<00:05:51.585> that's<00:05:51.825> an<00:05:52.130> easy-to-track<00:05:53.251> operational<00:05:53.908> metric.

00:05:54.789 --> 00:06:02.801
The<00:05:54.934> more<00:05:55.190> quickly<00:05:55.895> that<00:05:56.087> inventory,<00:05:56.792> that<00:05:57.032> returned<00:05:57.497> inventory,<00:05:58.074> can<00:05:58.314> go<00:05:58.555> back<00:05:58.939> into<00:05:59.131> circulation,<00:06:00.397> be<00:06:00.622> listed<00:06:01.038> for<00:06:01.198> sale<00:06:01.759> to<00:06:01.903> the<00:06:01.983> next<00:06:02.320> customer.

00:06:03.265 --> 00:06:06.694
Maybe<00:06:03.602> it<00:06:03.682> doesn't<00:06:03.986> fit<00:06:04.227> me,<00:06:04.563> but<00:06:04.803> maybe<00:06:05.060> it's<00:06:05.204> going<00:06:05.316> to<00:06:05.444> fit<00:06:05.685> you,<00:06:06.005> that<00:06:06.181> sort<00:06:06.422> of<00:06:06.550> thing.

00:06:07.623 --> 00:06:08.649
So<00:06:07.832> that's<00:06:08.072> the<00:06:08.168> first<00:06:08.473> step.

00:06:08.713 --> 00:06:15.667
The<00:06:08.809> second<00:06:09.129> step<00:06:09.514> is,<00:06:10.171> okay,<00:06:11.228> if<00:06:11.373> it<00:06:11.613> does<00:06:11.853> not<00:06:12.078> meet<00:06:12.238> the<00:06:12.334> criteria<00:06:12.975> of<00:06:13.119> new,<00:06:14.016> is<00:06:14.193> it<00:06:14.417> worth<00:06:15.042> repairing?

00:06:15.859 --> 00:06:17.317
What<00:06:16.115> is<00:06:16.243> the<00:06:16.340> nature<00:06:16.740> of<00:06:16.884> the<00:06:16.981> repair?

00:06:17.926 --> 00:06:20.347
And<00:06:18.022> what<00:06:18.182> do<00:06:18.327> I<00:06:18.439> do<00:06:18.663> with<00:06:18.888> it<00:06:19.208> once<00:06:19.545> I've<00:06:19.769> repaired<00:06:20.250> it?

00:06:20.908 --> 00:06:24.033
Maybe,<00:06:21.789> you<00:06:21.885> know,<00:06:22.174> a<00:06:22.254> button<00:06:22.511> came<00:06:22.751> off<00:06:23.008> or<00:06:23.168> something<00:06:23.553> like<00:06:23.713> that.

00:06:24.130 --> 00:06:34.341
Or<00:06:24.258> maybe<00:06:24.675> it's<00:06:25.204> a,<00:06:25.476> it's<00:06:25.653> a<00:06:25.701> more<00:06:27.384> insidious<00:06:28.265> issue<00:06:28.682> where<00:06:28.923> you<00:06:29.019> need<00:06:29.307> to<00:06:29.404> like<00:06:29.804> check<00:06:30.446> various<00:06:30.926> parts<00:06:31.311> of<00:06:31.423> a<00:06:31.552> piece<00:06:31.808> of,<00:06:32.289> you<00:06:32.385> know,<00:06:32.754> a<00:06:32.786> small<00:06:33.091> appliance<00:06:33.668> or<00:06:33.748> something.

00:06:34.774 --> 00:06:36.505
Those<00:06:35.014> are<00:06:35.239> all<00:06:35.655> manual<00:06:36.120> touches.

00:06:37.242 --> 00:06:39.791
And<00:06:37.322> every<00:06:37.579> time<00:06:37.819> you<00:06:37.964> touch<00:06:38.300> the<00:06:38.380> product,<00:06:39.006> it<00:06:39.166> costs<00:06:39.583> money.

00:06:40.240 --> 00:06:42.757
So<00:06:40.464> the<00:06:40.609> question<00:06:41.009> is,<00:06:41.266> how<00:06:41.426> do<00:06:41.570> you<00:06:41.731> do<00:06:41.907> that<00:06:42.132> efficiently?

00:06:43.270 --> 00:06:44.312
And<00:06:43.494> what<00:06:43.670> can<00:06:43.911> you<00:06:44.071> do?

00:06:44.392 --> 00:06:57.635
Back<00:06:44.632> to<00:06:44.696> your<00:06:44.873> question<00:06:45.273> on<00:06:45.418> machine<00:06:45.738> learning<00:06:46.540> to<00:06:46.636> say,<00:06:47.181> what<00:06:47.357> does<00:06:47.662> the<00:06:47.758> data<00:06:47.999> show<00:06:48.383> us<00:06:48.864> as<00:06:49.105> to<00:06:49.826> If<00:06:49.986> I<00:06:50.147> repair<00:06:50.564> this<00:06:50.804> good,<00:06:51.510> what<00:06:51.766> can<00:06:52.007> I<00:06:52.167> get<00:06:52.488> for<00:06:52.873> it<00:06:53.530> in<00:06:53.675> the<00:06:53.707> next<00:06:54.172> best<00:06:54.492> home,<00:06:55.038> or<00:06:55.198> what's<00:06:55.438> called<00:06:55.711> a<00:06:55.839> channel<00:06:56.641> where<00:06:56.962> I<00:06:57.122> would<00:06:57.218> send<00:06:57.539> it?

00:06:57.780 --> 00:07:02.382
I'm<00:06:58.164> certainly<00:06:58.469> not<00:06:58.661> going<00:06:58.774> to<00:06:58.886> represent<00:06:59.383> it<00:06:59.543> as<00:06:59.704> new,<00:07:00.650> but<00:07:00.971> it<00:07:01.131> could<00:07:01.227> go<00:07:01.548> to<00:07:01.692> a<00:07:01.708> liquidator.

00:07:02.574 --> 00:07:04.402
Maybe<00:07:02.847> it's<00:07:03.135> off-season<00:07:03.697> merchandise.

00:07:04.915 --> 00:07:06.856
Maybe<00:07:05.220> it<00:07:05.300> can<00:07:05.396> go<00:07:05.653> to<00:07:05.813> a<00:07:05.877> secondary<00:07:06.503> channel.

00:07:07.080 --> 00:07:13.462
Maybe<00:07:07.417> it's<00:07:07.625> a,<00:07:08.138> it's<00:07:08.363> a<00:07:08.924> B2B<00:07:09.549> kind<00:07:09.822> of<00:07:09.950> thing<00:07:10.207> and<00:07:10.287> it<00:07:10.367> would<00:07:10.512> end<00:07:10.672> up<00:07:10.784> at<00:07:10.848> a<00:07:10.912> flea<00:07:11.169> market,<00:07:11.891> or<00:07:12.051> maybe<00:07:12.291> it<00:07:12.372> needs<00:07:12.676> to<00:07:12.773> be<00:07:12.933> donated.

00:07:14.440 --> 00:07:18.770
And<00:07:14.841> what<00:07:15.001> you<00:07:15.178> don't<00:07:15.482> want<00:07:15.611> to<00:07:15.739> do<00:07:16.380> is<00:07:16.525> to<00:07:16.621> say,<00:07:17.166> oh,<00:07:17.567> this<00:07:17.743> is<00:07:17.888> really<00:07:18.128> complicated.

00:07:18.930 --> 00:07:20.485
I<00:07:18.946> have<00:07:19.106> all<00:07:19.267> these<00:07:19.491> returns<00:07:19.908> coming<00:07:20.229> back.

00:07:20.550 --> 00:07:21.239
And<00:07:20.630> imagine<00:07:21.031> this.

00:07:21.994 --> 00:07:24.933
For<00:07:22.138> apparel<00:07:22.556> and<00:07:22.717> footwear,<00:07:23.263> the<00:07:23.359> rates<00:07:23.680> of<00:07:23.761> return<00:07:24.387> are<00:07:24.628> 30%.

00:07:26.330 --> 00:07:26.861
Oh<00:07:26.475> my<00:07:26.636> God.

00:07:26.957 --> 00:07:34.088
So<00:07:27.535> can<00:07:27.760> you<00:07:27.872> imagine<00:07:28.322> taking<00:07:28.659> 30%<00:07:29.061> of<00:07:29.446> goods<00:07:29.784> and<00:07:29.864> saying,<00:07:30.410> I<00:07:30.426> don't<00:07:30.747> know,<00:07:30.988> it's<00:07:31.149> really<00:07:31.374> complicated,<00:07:31.952> I<00:07:32.032> don't<00:07:32.354> know<00:07:32.434> what<00:07:32.579> to<00:07:32.675> do<00:07:32.819> with<00:07:32.980> it,<00:07:33.478> never<00:07:33.735> mind.

00:07:34.361 --> 00:07:43.067
Like<00:07:34.586> you<00:07:34.683> would<00:07:34.907> lose<00:07:35.325> everything,<00:07:36.353> um,<00:07:36.674> from<00:07:36.851> a<00:07:36.931> financial<00:07:37.493> perspective,<00:07:38.200> the<00:07:38.361> revenue,<00:07:38.939> the<00:07:39.019> margin,<00:07:40.208> um,<00:07:40.449> not<00:07:40.642> to<00:07:40.722> mention<00:07:41.027> the<00:07:41.107> fact<00:07:41.493> that<00:07:41.734> this<00:07:41.894> stuff<00:07:42.151> would<00:07:42.296> end<00:07:42.473> up<00:07:42.617> in<00:07:42.714> landfill.

00:07:43.581 --> 00:07:48.432
Um,<00:07:43.758> so<00:07:43.982> there's<00:07:44.239> environmental<00:07:44.882> impact,<00:07:45.444> there's<00:07:45.749> financial<00:07:46.231> impact,<00:07:46.649> there's<00:07:46.890> a<00:07:46.970> lot<00:07:47.307> of<00:07:47.452> waste<00:07:47.837> in<00:07:47.918> the<00:07:48.014> process.

00:07:48.496 --> 00:08:05.123
So<00:07:48.753> ultimately<00:07:50.246> You<00:07:50.407> want<00:07:50.920> software<00:07:51.610> and<00:07:51.691> automation<00:07:52.589> and<00:07:52.734> all<00:07:52.910> the<00:07:53.071> data<00:07:53.247> science<00:07:54.034> to<00:07:54.355> aid<00:07:55.237> in<00:07:55.622> reducing<00:07:56.280> that<00:07:56.585> waste,<00:07:57.163> reducing<00:07:57.725> that<00:07:57.901> friction,<00:07:58.752> and<00:07:58.848> just<00:07:59.089> making<00:07:59.490> a<00:07:59.634> lot<00:08:00.036> more<00:08:00.469> sustainable<00:08:01.336> in<00:08:01.416> the<00:08:01.560> true<00:08:01.753> sense<00:08:02.122> of<00:08:02.154> the<00:08:02.218> word,<00:08:03.165> uh,<00:08:03.502> both<00:08:03.727> financially<00:08:04.304> and<00:08:04.385> environmentally.

00:08:06.214 --> 00:08:13.099
That<00:08:06.375> is<00:08:06.471> such<00:08:06.792> a<00:08:06.856> complex<00:08:07.434> problem<00:08:08.060> that,<00:08:08.541> um,<00:08:08.958> I<00:08:09.119> never<00:08:09.376> even<00:08:09.681> thought<00:08:09.921> of<00:08:10.403> when<00:08:11.029> I<00:08:11.205> go<00:08:11.590> online<00:08:12.184> and<00:08:12.393> just<00:08:12.569> buy<00:08:12.810> something.

00:08:13.372 --> 00:08:20.242
And<00:08:13.468> they<00:08:13.548> make<00:08:13.709> it<00:08:13.789> so<00:08:14.094> easy<00:08:14.335> to<00:08:14.495> buy<00:08:14.672> stuff<00:08:14.993> and<00:08:15.137> so<00:08:15.378> easy<00:08:15.618> to<00:08:15.763> return<00:08:16.244> stuff<00:08:16.967> you<00:08:17.047> don't<00:08:17.288> really<00:08:17.448> even<00:08:17.786> think<00:08:18.026> about<00:08:18.348> all<00:08:18.492> the<00:08:18.588> logistics<00:08:19.150> in<00:08:19.231> between<00:08:19.552> those<00:08:19.712> two<00:08:19.873> things.

00:08:21.302 --> 00:08:26.183
Yeah,<00:08:21.543> you<00:08:21.800> know<00:08:21.960> what,<00:08:22.506> before<00:08:22.988> I<00:08:23.068> started<00:08:23.486> at<00:08:23.630> Optoro,<00:08:24.754> I<00:08:24.867> never<00:08:25.156> gave<00:08:25.348> it<00:08:25.429> a<00:08:25.477> second<00:08:25.894> thought.

00:08:26.360 --> 00:08:31.530
And<00:08:26.456> then<00:08:26.617> the<00:08:26.713> minute<00:08:27.163> somebody<00:08:27.644> clues<00:08:27.982> you<00:08:28.206> in,<00:08:28.544> you<00:08:28.624> said,<00:08:29.025> oh<00:08:29.105> my<00:08:29.330> God,<00:08:29.748> this<00:08:29.924> is<00:08:30.069> incredibly<00:08:30.791> complex.

00:08:32.461 --> 00:08:35.143
And<00:08:32.702> every<00:08:32.943> time<00:08:33.200> there's<00:08:33.425> complexity,<00:08:34.147> there's<00:08:34.404> cost,<00:08:34.950> right?

00:08:35.191 --> 00:08:43.539
So<00:08:35.352> the<00:08:35.448> question<00:08:35.913> is,<00:08:36.636> how<00:08:36.813> can<00:08:36.973> technology,<00:08:37.921> how<00:08:38.097> can<00:08:38.274> software<00:08:39.623> really<00:08:39.944> change<00:08:40.506> the<00:08:40.650> game<00:08:41.003> in<00:08:41.148> that<00:08:41.389> regard<00:08:42.191> to<00:08:42.351> make<00:08:42.608> it<00:08:42.736> more<00:08:42.913> affordable.

00:08:43.619 --> 00:08:50.507
Because<00:08:44.823> if<00:08:44.984> you<00:08:45.145> don't<00:08:45.642> do<00:08:45.867> that,<00:08:46.846> that<00:08:47.151> cost<00:08:47.569> will<00:08:47.729> eventually<00:08:48.291> be<00:08:48.452> passed<00:08:48.853> on<00:08:49.319> in<00:08:49.415> the<00:08:49.495> cost<00:08:49.897> of<00:08:49.961> the<00:08:50.057> product.

00:08:50.555 --> 00:08:52.947
So<00:08:51.438> it's<00:08:51.598> a<00:08:51.663> competitive<00:08:52.224> marketplace.

00:08:53.027 --> 00:09:00.412
Retailers<00:08:53.653> and<00:08:53.750> brands<00:08:54.568> are<00:08:54.713> doing<00:08:54.954> their<00:08:55.259> utmost<00:08:55.821> to<00:08:56.302> invest<00:08:56.800> in<00:08:57.041> the<00:08:57.121> product,<00:08:58.229> have<00:08:58.502> a<00:08:58.566> good<00:08:58.726> experience,<00:08:59.786> make<00:09:00.027> it<00:09:00.155> easy.

00:09:00.492 --> 00:09:07.733
Now<00:09:00.653> here's<00:09:00.958> the<00:09:01.054> other<00:09:01.215> thing:<00:09:02.082> if<00:09:02.178> you<00:09:02.322> decide,<00:09:02.965> oh<00:09:03.061> gosh,<00:09:03.543> this<00:09:03.783> is<00:09:03.864> too<00:09:04.024> complicated,<00:09:04.811> all<00:09:04.987> sales<00:09:05.373> final,<00:09:05.854> no<00:09:06.095> returns<00:09:06.593> allowed,<00:09:07.058> well,<00:09:07.219> guess<00:09:07.476> what?

00:09:07.797 --> 00:09:11.136
You're<00:09:07.957> going<00:09:08.070> to<00:09:08.262> lose<00:09:08.680> a<00:09:08.824> lot<00:09:09.145> of<00:09:09.242> your<00:09:09.402> customers<00:09:10.446> who<00:09:10.526> are<00:09:10.687> shopping.

00:09:11.313 --> 00:09:24.176
We<00:09:11.473> have<00:09:12.695> Lots<00:09:13.016> of<00:09:13.096> surveys<00:09:14.140> that<00:09:14.300> we've<00:09:14.605> commissioned<00:09:15.184> that<00:09:15.424> show<00:09:15.810> that<00:09:16.388> more<00:09:16.693> than<00:09:16.854> two-thirds—<00:09:17.432> some<00:09:17.673> studies<00:09:18.010> show<00:09:18.315> more<00:09:18.556> than<00:09:18.861> 80%<00:09:19.278> of<00:09:19.503> shoppers<00:09:20.081> look<00:09:20.322> at<00:09:20.483> the<00:09:20.949> refund<00:09:21.607> and<00:09:21.767> return<00:09:22.249> policies<00:09:23.357> before<00:09:23.614> they<00:09:23.694> shop.

00:09:24.337 --> 00:09:24.449
Why?

00:09:24.658 --> 00:09:26.344
Because<00:09:24.995> you<00:09:25.059> want<00:09:25.204> to<00:09:25.300> shop<00:09:25.621> with<00:09:25.782> confidence.

00:09:26.906 --> 00:09:33.940
You<00:09:26.986> know,<00:09:27.452> I<00:09:27.613> was<00:09:27.693> just<00:09:27.854> reading<00:09:28.030> an<00:09:28.175> article<00:09:28.512> last<00:09:28.817> night<00:09:29.299> on<00:09:29.572> sort<00:09:29.861> of<00:09:29.957> the<00:09:30.054> psychology<00:09:30.840> of<00:09:30.921> sizing<00:09:31.948> and<00:09:32.109> how<00:09:32.912> it's<00:09:33.153> very<00:09:33.490> different.

00:09:34.357 --> 00:09:39.046
And<00:09:34.839> what<00:09:35.160> is<00:09:35.417> a<00:09:35.562> particular<00:09:36.043> size<00:09:36.461> for<00:09:36.605> one<00:09:36.846> brand<00:09:37.264> may<00:09:37.344> not<00:09:37.585> be<00:09:37.745> a<00:09:37.762> size<00:09:38.211> for<00:09:38.388> another<00:09:38.709> brand.

00:09:39.993 --> 00:09:51.511
There's<00:09:40.218> a<00:09:40.234> whole<00:09:40.538> sort<00:09:40.731> of<00:09:40.795> separate<00:09:41.341> thread<00:09:41.677> that<00:09:41.822> says<00:09:42.239> there's<00:09:42.560> predictive<00:09:43.137> advice<00:09:43.683> to<00:09:43.763> say,<00:09:44.549> we<00:09:44.725> believe<00:09:45.271> you<00:09:45.367> will<00:09:45.592> be<00:09:45.752> a<00:09:45.832> size,<00:09:46.426> you<00:09:46.506> know,<00:09:46.955> whatever,<00:09:47.549> XYZ<00:09:48.255> in<00:09:48.335> this<00:09:48.576> brand<00:09:49.297> to<00:09:49.442> try<00:09:49.618> to<00:09:49.843> reduce<00:09:50.404> the<00:09:50.805> rate<00:09:51.046> of<00:09:51.206> return.

00:09:51.768 --> 00:09:53.132
But<00:09:51.928> you're<00:09:52.089> not<00:09:52.265> going<00:09:52.442> to<00:09:52.490> get<00:09:52.650> it<00:09:52.747> right.

00:09:53.533 --> 00:09:56.709
And<00:09:53.869> it's<00:09:54.030> a<00:09:54.174> function<00:09:54.527> of<00:09:54.656> the<00:09:54.752> fit,<00:09:55.073> the<00:09:55.233> feel,<00:09:55.698> how<00:09:55.875> the<00:09:56.019> person<00:09:56.420> feels.

00:09:56.757 --> 00:10:14.343
So<00:09:57.399> returns<00:09:57.896> are<00:09:58.040> inevitable<00:09:58.762> because<00:09:59.147> online<00:09:59.484> shopping<00:09:59.949> is<00:10:00.110> here<00:10:00.286> to<00:10:00.383> stay<00:10:01.554> and<00:10:02.276> retailers<00:10:02.789> and<00:10:02.933> brands<00:10:03.495> need<00:10:03.655> to<00:10:03.800> figure<00:10:04.120> out<00:10:04.682> how<00:10:04.778> do<00:10:04.922> you<00:10:05.083> deal<00:10:05.340> with<00:10:05.564> it<00:10:05.725> to<00:10:05.885> reduce<00:10:06.222> the<00:10:06.366> costs<00:10:07.409> and<00:10:07.569> actually<00:10:08.067> turn<00:10:08.372> it<00:10:08.468> into<00:10:09.655> a<00:10:09.912> driver<00:10:10.313> of<00:10:10.474> loyalty<00:10:11.276> for<00:10:11.437> their<00:10:11.582> shoppers<00:10:12.481> or,<00:10:13.027> uh,<00:10:13.219> shopping<00:10:13.910> on<00:10:13.990> their<00:10:14.086> sites.

00:10:15.435 --> 00:10:31.203
How<00:10:15.531> are<00:10:15.676> you<00:10:15.837> thinking<00:10:16.174> about<00:10:16.559> AI<00:10:17.378> in<00:10:17.539> that<00:10:17.924> rapid<00:10:18.727> advancement,<00:10:19.465> which<00:10:19.690> obviously<00:10:19.963> machine<00:10:20.348> learning<00:10:20.670> probably<00:10:21.135> is,<00:10:21.392> is<00:10:21.938> AI<00:10:22.259> as<00:10:22.436> well,<00:10:22.837> but<00:10:23.463> you<00:10:23.496> know,<00:10:23.640> we're<00:10:23.801> seeing<00:10:24.138> so<00:10:24.443> much,<00:10:25.230> um,<00:10:25.792> change<00:10:26.370> and<00:10:26.514> rapid<00:10:26.851> growth<00:10:27.172> in<00:10:27.237> that<00:10:27.478> every<00:10:27.670> single<00:10:28.120> day<00:10:28.634> to<00:10:28.762> the<00:10:28.858> point<00:10:29.163> where<00:10:29.324> they're<00:10:29.565> like<00:10:29.725> AI<00:10:30.223> doomsdayers<00:10:30.882> and<00:10:30.962> stuff.

00:10:31.267 --> 00:10:34.976
Like,<00:10:31.909> I<00:10:31.989> just<00:10:32.150> wonder<00:10:32.375> like<00:10:32.551> how<00:10:32.776> you're<00:10:32.953> thinking<00:10:33.290> about<00:10:33.595> it<00:10:33.740> as<00:10:33.900> the<00:10:33.980> CEO<00:10:34.302> of<00:10:34.398> Optoro.

00:10:36.164 --> 00:10:42.134
I<00:10:36.324> think<00:10:36.485> there's<00:10:36.725> a<00:10:36.806> whole<00:10:37.207> variety<00:10:37.592> of<00:10:37.688> ways<00:10:38.314> AI<00:10:38.587> is<00:10:38.667> going<00:10:38.876> to<00:10:38.972> come<00:10:39.277> in<00:10:39.919> and<00:10:40.080> try<00:10:40.336> to<00:10:40.577> expedite<00:10:41.203> this<00:10:41.379> whole<00:10:41.620> process.

00:10:42.358 --> 00:10:51.426
So<00:10:42.968> for<00:10:43.145> starters,<00:10:44.830> right<00:10:45.071> now<00:10:45.536> AI<00:10:45.873> is<00:10:46.033> already<00:10:46.354> being<00:10:46.659> used<00:10:47.221> upfront,<00:10:47.879> for<00:10:48.055> example,<00:10:49.147> to<00:10:49.580> summarize<00:10:50.302> shopper<00:10:50.784> sentiments.

00:10:51.490 --> 00:11:07.765
So<00:10:51.554> if<00:10:51.650> you<00:10:51.795> think<00:10:51.971> about<00:10:52.453> what<00:10:52.613> are<00:10:52.709> the<00:10:52.838> reviews<00:10:53.496> for<00:10:53.592> a<00:10:53.801> product,<00:10:54.844> I<00:10:54.924> have,<00:10:55.261> you<00:10:55.357> know,<00:10:55.582> 500<00:10:56.208> 5-star,<00:10:57.267> 300<00:10:57.893> 4-stars,<00:10:58.711> 200<00:10:59.273> whatever,<00:11:00.316> synthesize<00:11:01.119> for<00:11:01.424> me<00:11:02.050> What<00:11:02.322> do<00:11:02.403> people<00:11:02.804> like<00:11:03.109> and<00:11:03.206> not<00:11:03.511> like<00:11:04.008> about<00:11:04.329> the<00:11:04.474> product<00:11:04.907> so<00:11:05.148> that<00:11:05.839> the<00:11:05.871> next<00:11:06.096> shopper<00:11:06.641> can<00:11:06.818> be<00:11:07.043> aided<00:11:07.300> by<00:11:07.541> it?

00:11:08.327 --> 00:11:11.474
Help<00:11:08.584> me<00:11:08.729> figure<00:11:09.130> out<00:11:09.933> what<00:11:10.093> size<00:11:10.672> might<00:11:10.912> fit<00:11:11.314> me.

00:11:11.715 --> 00:11:15.456
Both<00:11:11.972> of<00:11:12.117> these<00:11:12.357> things<00:11:12.743> are<00:11:12.807> already<00:11:13.144> being<00:11:13.481> put<00:11:13.658> to<00:11:13.802> work<00:11:14.284> by<00:11:14.766> retailers.

00:11:15.713 --> 00:11:17.624
Amazon's<00:11:16.211> done<00:11:16.371> a<00:11:16.387> lot<00:11:16.757> in<00:11:16.853> this<00:11:17.174> regard.

00:11:18.619 --> 00:11:27.659
And<00:11:18.715> then<00:11:18.940> from<00:11:19.117> a<00:11:19.245> reverse<00:11:19.647> logistics<00:11:20.225> perspective,<00:11:21.493> how<00:11:21.670> can<00:11:21.895> AI<00:11:22.376> help<00:11:22.858> optimize<00:11:23.918> the<00:11:24.078> cost<00:11:24.704> and<00:11:24.785> the<00:11:24.865> friction<00:11:25.363> involved<00:11:26.069> in<00:11:26.390> starting<00:11:27.048> that<00:11:27.289> return?

00:11:27.787 --> 00:11:39.109
So<00:11:28.092> we're<00:11:28.317> using<00:11:28.718> it<00:11:29.377> to<00:11:29.521> help<00:11:29.939> figure<00:11:30.404> out<00:11:31.046> How<00:11:31.302> are<00:11:31.383> the<00:11:31.527> policies<00:11:32.328> then<00:11:32.505> informed<00:11:33.467> based<00:11:33.867> on<00:11:35.310> what's<00:11:35.550> convenient<00:11:36.112> for<00:11:36.208> the<00:11:36.336> customer,<00:11:37.378> what's<00:11:37.698> viable<00:11:38.260> for<00:11:38.420> the<00:11:38.500> shopper?

00:11:39.542 --> 00:11:46.371
How<00:11:39.718> do<00:11:39.863> I<00:11:40.023> basically<00:11:40.504> hold<00:11:40.744> your<00:11:40.905> hand<00:11:41.786> and<00:11:42.267> make<00:11:42.588> that<00:11:42.828> returns<00:11:43.261> experience<00:11:44.351> optimal<00:11:45.088> in<00:11:45.233> every<00:11:45.489> sense<00:11:45.874> of<00:11:45.906> the<00:11:46.034> word?

00:11:47.333 --> 00:11:54.242
That<00:11:47.493> could<00:11:47.733> be<00:11:47.878> a<00:11:47.958> home<00:11:48.134> pickup,<00:11:48.695> it<00:11:48.839> could<00:11:49.016> be<00:11:49.160> a<00:11:49.256> box-free<00:11:49.801> label-free<00:11:50.378> drop-off,<00:11:51.340> it<00:11:51.420> might<00:11:51.645> be<00:11:51.805> taking<00:11:52.206> it<00:11:52.382> to<00:11:53.184> the<00:11:53.344> brick-and-mortar<00:11:53.985> store.

00:11:54.322 --> 00:11:55.829
So<00:11:54.626> what's<00:11:54.867> closest<00:11:55.348> to<00:11:55.572> you?

00:11:56.293 --> 00:11:58.249
How<00:11:56.390> should<00:11:56.630> I<00:11:56.790> present<00:11:57.175> those<00:11:57.416> options<00:11:57.832> to<00:11:58.057> you?

00:11:58.570 --> 00:12:01.872
So<00:11:58.794> you<00:11:58.971> need<00:11:59.772> software<00:12:00.397> and<00:12:00.541> AI<00:12:01.038> to<00:12:01.183> help<00:12:01.503> do<00:12:01.680> that.

00:12:02.321 --> 00:12:06.377
And<00:12:02.465> then<00:12:02.641> you<00:12:02.722> get<00:12:02.962> into<00:12:03.283> the<00:12:03.427> world<00:12:03.828> of,<00:12:04.004> okay,<00:12:04.741> something<00:12:05.190> has<00:12:05.367> come<00:12:05.607> back<00:12:05.912> in<00:12:06.008> a<00:12:06.088> box.

00:12:06.425 --> 00:12:15.530
So<00:12:07.274> now<00:12:07.771> there's<00:12:08.172> a,<00:12:08.637> a<00:12:08.733> growing<00:12:09.214> trend<00:12:09.775> towards<00:12:10.561> machine<00:12:10.977> vision<00:12:11.538> to<00:12:11.683> help<00:12:12.019> diagnose<00:12:13.222> what's<00:12:13.606> the<00:12:13.687> health<00:12:14.007> of<00:12:14.039> the<00:12:14.264> product<00:12:14.729> when<00:12:14.889> it's<00:12:15.065> come<00:12:15.306> back.

00:12:15.610 --> 00:12:23.321
I<00:12:15.626> mean,<00:12:15.771> imagine<00:12:16.187> how<00:12:16.348> manual<00:12:16.829> it<00:12:16.973> is<00:12:17.710> to<00:12:17.855> hold<00:12:18.191> something<00:12:18.672> in<00:12:18.752> your<00:12:18.913> hand<00:12:19.233> and<00:12:19.377> go,<00:12:19.698> okay,<00:12:20.035> let<00:12:20.147> me<00:12:20.275> turn<00:12:20.532> around<00:12:20.997> and<00:12:21.077> see,<00:12:21.558> does<00:12:21.718> it<00:12:21.798> look<00:12:22.022> okay<00:12:22.263> or<00:12:22.680> does<00:12:22.920> it<00:12:23.000> not?

00:12:23.385 --> 00:12:26.062
And<00:12:23.561> is<00:12:23.722> it<00:12:23.802> the<00:12:23.882> product<00:12:25.004> that<00:12:25.245> you<00:12:25.405> said<00:12:25.661> it<00:12:25.790> was?

00:12:26.126 --> 00:12:27.649
Let's<00:12:26.287> just<00:12:26.431> start<00:12:26.687> with<00:12:26.832> the<00:12:26.928> basics,<00:12:27.409> right?

00:12:27.954 --> 00:12:28.050
Yeah.

00:12:28.146 --> 00:12:31.112
Maybe<00:12:29.172> Maybe<00:12:29.493> it's<00:12:29.653> not<00:12:29.877> really<00:12:30.038> even<00:12:30.310> a<00:12:30.358> nefarious<00:12:30.935> thing.

00:12:31.240 --> 00:12:39.127
I<00:12:31.320> have<00:12:31.481> a<00:12:31.497> whole<00:12:31.737> bunch<00:12:31.993> of<00:12:32.122> returns<00:12:32.843> and<00:12:33.244> I<00:12:33.324> mix<00:12:33.645> up<00:12:33.741> the<00:12:33.837> labels<00:12:34.526> or<00:12:34.622> I<00:12:34.703> mix<00:12:35.023> up<00:12:35.183> the<00:12:35.328> QR<00:12:35.745> codes,<00:12:36.209> which<00:12:36.386> is<00:12:36.546> more<00:12:36.786> often<00:12:37.027> than<00:12:37.187> not<00:12:37.973> what<00:12:38.149> people<00:12:38.534> like<00:12:38.774> to<00:12:38.886> do.

00:12:40.057 --> 00:12:42.509
And<00:12:40.153> I<00:12:40.233> showed<00:12:40.538> you<00:12:40.634> the<00:12:40.778> wrong<00:12:41.034> QR<00:12:41.419> code<00:12:41.676> for<00:12:41.836> the<00:12:41.916> right<00:12:42.157> product.

00:12:42.557 --> 00:12:47.895
So<00:12:42.718> job<00:12:43.022> one<00:12:43.199> is<00:12:43.359> to<00:12:43.455> say,<00:12:43.840> you<00:12:44.305> told<00:12:44.561> me<00:12:44.705> you<00:12:44.802> were<00:12:44.962> going<00:12:45.058> to<00:12:45.202> return<00:12:45.908> a,<00:12:46.405> you<00:12:46.485> know,<00:12:46.725> black<00:12:47.062> fleece<00:12:47.591> hoodie.

00:12:48.312 --> 00:12:53.923
Instead<00:12:48.953> I<00:12:49.050> got,<00:12:49.450> you<00:12:49.611> know,<00:12:50.092> like<00:12:51.214> the<00:12:51.294> sweatpants<00:12:51.935> instead<00:12:52.320> or<00:12:52.416> the<00:12:52.560> joggers<00:12:53.121> or<00:12:53.217> what<00:12:53.362> have<00:12:53.682> you.

00:12:54.259 --> 00:13:00.126
So<00:12:54.500> can<00:12:54.724> machine<00:12:55.141> vision<00:12:55.526> help<00:12:56.167> in<00:12:56.504> identifying,<00:12:57.690> is<00:12:57.850> it<00:12:57.930> the<00:12:58.026> product<00:12:58.507> you<00:12:58.604> said<00:12:59.052> you<00:12:59.213> were<00:12:59.309> going<00:12:59.694> to<00:12:59.854> return?

00:13:00.720 --> 00:13:03.431
Potentially<00:13:01.201> machine<00:13:01.618> vision<00:13:02.100> could<00:13:02.501> go<00:13:02.693> even<00:13:02.982> further.

00:13:03.784 --> 00:13:07.251
But<00:13:03.881> let's<00:13:04.121> just<00:13:04.266> start<00:13:04.523> with<00:13:04.747> identifying<00:13:05.710> animal,<00:13:06.127> mineral,<00:13:06.609> vegetable.

00:13:07.507 --> 00:13:09.898
Is<00:13:07.652> it<00:13:07.748> the<00:13:07.828> same<00:13:08.197> thing<00:13:08.438> you<00:13:08.615> thought<00:13:08.839> it<00:13:08.936> would<00:13:09.160> be?

00:13:10.444 --> 00:13:16.766
One<00:13:10.620> of<00:13:10.701> the<00:13:11.102> more<00:13:12.065> exciting<00:13:12.610> aspects,<00:13:13.188> and<00:13:13.348> this<00:13:13.589> goes<00:13:13.910> to<00:13:15.418> the<00:13:15.579> volume<00:13:16.157> of<00:13:16.301> returns.

00:13:16.911 --> 00:13:22.912
So<00:13:17.039> last<00:13:17.424> year<00:13:17.825> there<00:13:17.922> were<00:13:18.066> about<00:13:18.323> $750<00:13:19.607> billion<00:13:20.569> of<00:13:20.714> goods<00:13:21.051> returned<00:13:21.933> from<00:13:22.094> 2023.

00:13:23.057 --> 00:13:23.089
Wow.

00:13:23.217 --> 00:13:23.586
That's<00:13:23.506> crazy.

00:13:23.763 --> 00:13:25.480
It's<00:13:23.939> an<00:13:24.020> astonishing<00:13:24.982> volume.

00:13:25.945 --> 00:13:31.289
And<00:13:26.025> you<00:13:26.186> walk<00:13:26.571> into<00:13:26.828> these<00:13:27.068> warehouses,<00:13:27.855> some<00:13:28.112> million<00:13:28.593> square<00:13:28.978> feet,<00:13:29.475> you<00:13:29.620> got<00:13:29.941> tons<00:13:30.294> of<00:13:30.422> returns<00:13:30.904> coming<00:13:31.225> in.

00:13:32.347 --> 00:13:39.820
There's<00:13:32.620> a<00:13:32.748> growing<00:13:33.165> trend<00:13:33.967> towards<00:13:34.592> robotic<00:13:35.089> systems,<00:13:35.795> robots<00:13:36.372> and<00:13:36.517> cobots,<00:13:37.415> to<00:13:37.575> just<00:13:37.880> help<00:13:38.281> with<00:13:38.393> this<00:13:38.681> manual<00:13:39.339> task.

00:13:40.237 --> 00:13:42.979
Some<00:13:40.558> of<00:13:40.702> them<00:13:41.007> are<00:13:41.103> designed<00:13:41.584> to<00:13:41.744> expedite<00:13:42.402> receiving.

00:13:43.364 --> 00:13:55.375
Some<00:13:43.669> of<00:13:43.749> them<00:13:43.909> are<00:13:44.069> designed<00:13:44.550> for<00:13:44.775> what's<00:13:45.032> called,<00:13:45.609> you<00:13:45.689> know,<00:13:46.074> put<00:13:46.298> away<00:13:46.796> in<00:13:46.940> terms<00:13:47.277> of<00:13:47.501> move<00:13:47.742> this<00:13:47.918> product<00:13:48.383> from<00:13:48.640> here<00:13:48.944> to<00:13:49.105> here<00:13:49.586> or<00:13:50.323> go<00:13:50.644> up<00:13:50.869> this<00:13:51.109> huge,<00:13:51.670> you<00:13:51.767> know,<00:13:52.344> stacking<00:13:52.969> and<00:13:53.114> racking<00:13:53.514> structure<00:13:54.172> and<00:13:54.396> bring<00:13:54.637> it<00:13:54.733> down<00:13:55.118> for<00:13:55.230> me.

00:13:55.455 --> 00:13:57.507
You're<00:13:55.615> actually<00:13:56.080> moving<00:13:56.417> goods<00:13:56.657> from<00:13:56.882> place<00:13:57.139> to<00:13:57.299> place.

00:13:58.101 --> 00:14:04.140
Well,<00:13:58.646> How<00:13:58.823> do<00:13:58.967> you<00:13:59.208> integrate<00:13:59.706> that<00:14:00.012> with<00:14:00.654> what<00:14:00.911> the<00:14:01.056> robot<00:14:01.457> should<00:14:01.698> do,<00:14:02.036> not<00:14:02.277> just<00:14:02.678> how<00:14:03.080> the<00:14:03.240> robot<00:14:03.626> should<00:14:03.803> do<00:14:04.028> it?

00:14:04.606 --> 00:14:23.288
And<00:14:04.702> that's<00:14:04.991> a<00:14:05.088> pretty<00:14:05.473> interesting<00:14:07.240> use<00:14:07.497> case<00:14:08.044> or<00:14:08.285> application<00:14:09.168> where<00:14:09.361> our<00:14:09.522> smart<00:14:09.907> disposition<00:14:10.550> technology<00:14:11.674> is<00:14:11.819> actually<00:14:12.317> informing<00:14:12.879> the<00:14:13.023> robot<00:14:13.537> to<00:14:13.618> say<00:14:14.405> the<00:14:14.646> best<00:14:14.951> place<00:14:15.288> for<00:14:15.465> this<00:14:15.690> product<00:14:16.397> is<00:14:16.718> this<00:14:17.039> channel,<00:14:17.843> or<00:14:18.260> take<00:14:18.566> it<00:14:18.662> for<00:14:18.983> refurbishment,<00:14:19.867> or<00:14:20.011> actually<00:14:20.574> it's<00:14:20.766> not<00:14:20.991> worth<00:14:21.296> it,<00:14:21.473> send<00:14:21.730> it<00:14:21.859> to<00:14:21.955> this<00:14:22.196> other<00:14:22.437> channel<00:14:22.822> instead.

00:14:23.722 --> 00:14:32.188
So<00:14:23.963> you've<00:14:24.204> got<00:14:24.622> technology<00:14:25.393> and<00:14:25.553> AI<00:14:26.276> informing<00:14:26.853> that<00:14:27.157> robot<00:14:27.734> based<00:14:28.118> on<00:14:28.375> past<00:14:28.695> history<00:14:29.256> and<00:14:29.416> past<00:14:29.801> learnings,<00:14:30.361> and<00:14:30.457> then<00:14:30.618> the<00:14:30.762> robot<00:14:31.242> does<00:14:31.515> the<00:14:31.659> action.

00:14:32.684 --> 00:14:35.072
That<00:14:32.877> is<00:14:33.021> a<00:14:33.165> pretty<00:14:33.566> cool<00:14:33.966> thing<00:14:34.142> to<00:14:34.287> watch,<00:14:34.607> actually.

00:14:35.969 --> 00:14:36.914
Yeah,<00:14:36.145> that's<00:14:36.321> incredible.

00:14:37.427 --> 00:14:50.132
As<00:14:37.507> you're<00:14:37.651> talking,<00:14:37.908> like,<00:14:38.132> through,<00:14:38.292> like,<00:14:38.613> all<00:14:38.725> the<00:14:38.869> various<00:14:39.269> steps<00:14:39.590> and<00:14:39.670> processes<00:14:40.231> that<00:14:40.375> some<00:14:40.567> of<00:14:40.631> these<00:14:40.791> products<00:14:41.192> go<00:14:41.432> through,<00:14:41.737> from<00:14:41.833> being<00:14:42.073> purchased,<00:14:42.554> returned,<00:14:43.675> and<00:14:43.820> everything<00:14:44.172> in<00:14:44.236> between<00:14:44.637> that<00:14:44.781> you<00:14:44.861> just<00:14:45.037> mentioned,<00:14:46.399> I<00:14:46.559> wonder,<00:14:48.081> man,<00:14:48.386> there's<00:14:48.546> going<00:14:48.626> to<00:14:48.706> be<00:14:49.123> a<00:14:49.267> lot<00:14:49.443> of<00:14:49.507> fraud.

00:14:50.324 --> 00:14:52.503
How<00:14:50.485> do<00:14:50.629> you<00:14:51.430> prevent<00:14:51.847> that<00:14:52.071> fraud?

00:14:52.568 --> 00:14:53.977
How<00:14:52.664> do<00:14:52.792> you<00:14:52.888> think<00:14:53.192> about<00:14:53.513> fraud?

00:14:54.074 --> 00:14:56.784
What<00:14:54.234> are<00:14:54.410> you<00:14:54.634> doing<00:14:55.035> to<00:14:55.853> minimize<00:14:56.415> fraud?

00:14:57.684 --> 00:14:57.957
Yeah.

00:14:58.101 --> 00:15:02.774
And<00:14:58.246> you<00:14:58.278> know,<00:14:58.503> the<00:14:58.663> funny<00:14:58.968> thing<00:14:59.209> is<00:15:00.574> fraud<00:15:00.927> has<00:15:01.216> actually<00:15:01.698> been<00:15:02.019> on<00:15:02.196> the<00:15:02.357> increase.

00:15:02.838 --> 00:15:03.770
And<00:15:02.983> maybe<00:15:03.160> it's<00:15:03.384> not<00:15:03.561> funny.

00:15:04.027 --> 00:15:05.006
It's<00:15:04.284> actually<00:15:04.605> not<00:15:04.765> funny.

00:15:05.713 --> 00:15:07.544
Fraud<00:15:06.195> has<00:15:06.371> increased<00:15:06.853> substantially.

00:15:07.961 --> 00:15:17.564
It's<00:15:08.443> gone<00:15:08.700> from<00:15:08.925> about<00:15:09.117> 6%<00:15:10.065> to<00:15:10.852> north<00:15:11.253> of<00:15:11.574> 11,<00:15:12.056> 12%<00:15:13.437> of<00:15:13.598> goods,<00:15:14.304> $101<00:15:15.605> billion<00:15:16.569> in<00:15:16.729> fraud<00:15:17.131> last<00:15:17.468> year.

00:15:18.078 --> 00:15:22.719
So<00:15:18.239> step<00:15:18.656> one<00:15:19.042> is<00:15:19.620> what<00:15:19.861> are<00:15:19.941> the<00:15:20.102> various,<00:15:20.824> you<00:15:20.921> know,<00:15:21.451> flavors<00:15:22.173> of<00:15:22.270> fraud?

00:15:23.875 --> 00:15:32.016
One<00:15:24.180> aspect<00:15:24.742> of<00:15:24.903> it<00:15:25.304> is<00:15:25.481> called<00:15:25.963> wardrobing,<00:15:27.311> where<00:15:28.355> I<00:15:28.516> would<00:15:28.692> buy<00:15:29.094> a<00:15:29.158> product,<00:15:29.961> I<00:15:30.057> would<00:15:30.202> use<00:15:30.523> it,<00:15:31.020> and<00:15:31.165> then<00:15:31.326> I<00:15:31.406> would<00:15:31.566> return<00:15:31.904> it.

00:15:33.028 --> 00:15:34.473
And<00:15:33.124> it's<00:15:33.493> overtly<00:15:34.055> used.

00:15:35.259 --> 00:15:49.293
Another<00:15:35.677> aspect<00:15:36.094> of<00:15:36.159> fraud<00:15:36.560> is<00:15:36.704> actually<00:15:37.443> I<00:15:37.604> buy<00:15:37.780> a<00:15:37.844> product,<00:15:38.503> maybe<00:15:38.872> I<00:15:39.049> claim<00:15:39.434> I<00:15:39.466> never<00:15:39.771> received<00:15:40.397> it<00:15:41.521> or<00:15:41.698> whatnot,<00:15:43.207> and<00:15:43.785> eventually—<00:15:44.990> let's<00:15:45.311> try<00:15:45.471> this<00:15:45.696> way—<00:15:46.098> if<00:15:46.258> I<00:15:46.419> return<00:15:46.916> it,<00:15:47.302> maybe<00:15:47.559> it's<00:15:47.784> not<00:15:47.960> that<00:15:48.201> product<00:15:48.554> I'm<00:15:48.763> returning.

00:15:49.485 --> 00:15:53.949
I'm<00:15:49.726> claiming<00:15:50.208> to<00:15:50.369> return<00:15:50.850> product<00:15:51.316> A,<00:15:51.733> but<00:15:51.958> maybe<00:15:52.376> it's<00:15:52.552> a<00:15:52.617> ratty<00:15:53.002> t-shirt<00:15:53.419> I've<00:15:53.500> thrown<00:15:53.837> in.

00:15:54.783 --> 00:15:57.989
In<00:15:54.927> the,<00:15:55.424> you<00:15:55.520> know,<00:15:55.905> or<00:15:56.226> the<00:15:56.691> box<00:15:57.011> of<00:15:57.091> rocks<00:15:57.348> scenario.

00:15:58.326 --> 00:16:01.003
So<00:15:58.550> that<00:15:58.790> would<00:15:58.951> be<00:15:59.175> really<00:15:59.512> sort<00:15:59.816> of<00:16:00.073> egregious<00:16:00.698> fraud.

00:16:01.451 --> 00:16:12.288
So<00:16:01.676> in<00:16:01.820> order<00:16:02.141> to<00:16:02.221> understand<00:16:02.862> fraud,<00:16:03.215> you<00:16:03.295> need<00:16:03.583> to<00:16:03.664> say,<00:16:04.225> okay,<00:16:05.908> you<00:16:06.084> could<00:16:06.389> do<00:16:06.725> one<00:16:06.902> example<00:16:07.831> of<00:16:08.152> you're<00:16:08.409> going<00:16:08.521> to<00:16:08.889> inspect<00:16:09.755> every<00:16:10.316> item<00:16:10.813> in<00:16:11.118> every<00:16:11.438> single<00:16:11.919> detail.

00:16:12.897 --> 00:16:20.720
So<00:16:13.282> I'm<00:16:13.458> going<00:16:13.554> to<00:16:13.634> spend<00:16:14.163> a<00:16:14.179> lot<00:16:14.724> more<00:16:15.606> in<00:16:15.782> my<00:16:16.327> receiving,<00:16:17.065> in<00:16:17.225> my<00:16:17.450> test<00:16:17.770> and<00:16:17.866> grade<00:16:18.732> in<00:16:18.972> order<00:16:19.293> to<00:16:19.389> make<00:16:19.630> sure<00:16:20.014> there's<00:16:20.287> no<00:16:20.495> fraud.

00:16:20.976 --> 00:16:24.968
Well,<00:16:21.136> you<00:16:21.217> look<00:16:21.409> at<00:16:21.473> the<00:16:21.553> cost<00:16:21.954> benefit<00:16:22.355> of<00:16:22.435> that<00:16:22.691> and<00:16:22.756> said,<00:16:23.781> that's<00:16:24.022> kind<00:16:24.262> of<00:16:24.375> expensive.

00:16:25.016 --> 00:16:35.477
That's<00:16:25.240> kind<00:16:25.465> of<00:16:25.497> like<00:16:25.657> saying,<00:16:26.587> I'm<00:16:26.748> going<00:16:26.844> to<00:16:26.989> have<00:16:27.181> a<00:16:27.406> really,<00:16:27.887> really<00:16:28.272> high<00:16:28.609> moat<00:16:29.010> to<00:16:29.155> my<00:16:29.331> castle,<00:16:29.893> a<00:16:30.198> really<00:16:30.535> strong<00:16:30.872> security<00:16:31.353> system,<00:16:31.979> and<00:16:32.043> I'm<00:16:32.091> going<00:16:32.220> to<00:16:32.300> spend<00:16:32.605> a<00:16:32.701> ton<00:16:33.006> on<00:16:33.118> it<00:16:33.150> because<00:16:33.760> I'm<00:16:33.969> going<00:16:34.161> to<00:16:34.209> keep<00:16:34.546> the<00:16:34.627> bad<00:16:34.931> guys<00:16:35.252> out.

00:16:36.135 --> 00:16:38.847
And<00:16:36.953> maybe<00:16:37.210> that's<00:16:37.451> not<00:16:37.659> the<00:16:37.739> smartest<00:16:38.157> way<00:16:38.253> to<00:16:38.397> do<00:16:38.622> things.

00:16:39.023 --> 00:16:49.485
Maybe<00:16:39.440> you<00:16:39.537> need<00:16:39.761> to<00:16:39.922> bring<00:16:40.227> in,<00:16:41.526> back<00:16:41.831> to<00:16:41.928> our<00:16:42.232> AI<00:16:42.730> and<00:16:42.794> our<00:16:42.971> data<00:16:43.211> science<00:16:44.158> analytics,<00:16:44.800> to<00:16:44.896> say,<00:16:45.442> you<00:16:45.474> know<00:16:45.698> what,<00:16:46.581> Clint<00:16:47.849> is<00:16:48.089> a<00:16:48.266> trustworthy<00:16:48.827> customer.

00:16:49.774 --> 00:16:53.128
I<00:16:49.935> know<00:16:50.352> that<00:16:50.592> he,<00:16:51.138> you<00:16:51.218> know,<00:16:51.459> how<00:16:51.716> he<00:16:51.796> shops,<00:16:52.325> how<00:16:52.502> he<00:16:52.598> returns.

00:16:53.240 --> 00:16:54.171
I<00:16:53.336> know<00:16:53.545> his<00:16:53.705> history.

00:16:54.748 --> 00:17:00.479
You<00:16:54.845> basically<00:16:55.470> are<00:16:55.583> establishing<00:16:56.305> a<00:16:56.433> trust<00:16:56.834> model<00:16:58.119> and<00:16:58.295> determining<00:16:59.419> if<00:16:59.580> Clinton<00:16:59.885> returns.

00:17:01.089 --> 00:17:03.722
I<00:17:01.202> think<00:17:01.346> there's<00:17:01.587> a<00:17:01.667> good<00:17:01.812> chance<00:17:02.309> that<00:17:02.631> it<00:17:02.727> is<00:17:02.952> what<00:17:03.064> he<00:17:03.128> says<00:17:03.433> he<00:17:03.594> is.

00:17:03.835 --> 00:17:06.211
Oh,<00:17:03.979> by<00:17:04.076> the<00:17:04.220> way,<00:17:04.300> I'm<00:17:04.493> going<00:17:04.589> to<00:17:04.862> ask<00:17:05.055> him<00:17:05.264> why<00:17:05.440> he's<00:17:05.665> returning.

00:17:06.308 --> 00:17:14.336
And<00:17:06.950> I<00:17:06.982> might<00:17:07.271> even<00:17:07.512> have<00:17:08.074> analytics<00:17:08.652> that<00:17:08.812> says<00:17:09.214> that,<00:17:09.519> you<00:17:09.631> know,<00:17:10.017> if<00:17:10.177> Clinton<00:17:10.434> says<00:17:10.739> this,<00:17:11.125> chances<00:17:11.606> are<00:17:12.024> that<00:17:12.248> is<00:17:12.425> what,<00:17:12.891> what<00:17:13.035> happened.

00:17:14.512 --> 00:17:19.618
Whereas,<00:17:15.155> you<00:17:15.251> know,<00:17:15.781> maybe<00:17:16.295> somebody<00:17:16.825> else<00:17:17.226> is<00:17:17.338> not<00:17:17.949> that<00:17:18.928> trustworthy.

00:17:19.907 --> 00:17:22.541
So<00:17:20.132> I<00:17:20.357> think<00:17:20.518> you<00:17:20.598> really<00:17:20.935> need<00:17:21.176> to<00:17:21.320> bring<00:17:21.577> data<00:17:22.043> up<00:17:22.220> front.

00:17:22.862 --> 00:17:31.213
To<00:17:23.022> figure<00:17:23.407> out<00:17:24.128> how<00:17:24.385> do<00:17:24.529> you,<00:17:24.801> how<00:17:24.946> do<00:17:25.026> you<00:17:25.122> determine<00:17:25.811> who<00:17:25.907> you<00:17:26.068> trust<00:17:26.468> and<00:17:26.629> who<00:17:26.773> you<00:17:26.933> don't<00:17:27.174> trust,<00:17:27.494> which<00:17:27.671> is<00:17:27.815> kind<00:17:28.136> of<00:17:28.296> like,<00:17:28.617> you<00:17:29.113> know,<00:17:29.274> the<00:17:29.434> perennial<00:17:30.139> internet<00:17:30.620> problem,<00:17:31.037> right?

00:17:31.262 --> 00:17:35.974
Remember<00:17:31.534> that<00:17:31.999> New<00:17:32.143> Yorker<00:17:32.560> cartoon,<00:17:33.201> right,<00:17:33.506> that<00:17:33.666> says<00:17:33.987> on<00:17:34.083> the<00:17:34.243> internet<00:17:34.628> everybody's<00:17:35.125> a<00:17:35.205> dog<00:17:35.461> kind<00:17:35.702> of<00:17:35.766> thing?

00:17:36.407 --> 00:17:38.315
Well,<00:17:36.712> who<00:17:36.888> is<00:17:37.048> a<00:17:37.113> dog<00:17:37.513> and<00:17:37.690> who<00:17:37.946> isn't?

00:17:38.716 --> 00:17:46.987
And<00:17:38.812> then<00:17:38.972> how<00:17:39.212> do<00:17:39.309> you<00:17:39.517> link<00:17:39.774> that<00:17:40.174> to<00:17:40.575> dynamic<00:17:41.280> returns<00:17:41.841> policies<00:17:42.579> where,<00:17:43.220> you<00:17:43.460> know,<00:17:43.685> there<00:17:43.781> might<00:17:44.022> be<00:17:44.166> a<00:17:44.246> different<00:17:44.518> experience<00:17:45.208> for<00:17:45.448> one<00:17:45.689> customer<00:17:46.266> versus<00:17:46.650> the<00:17:46.827> other?

00:17:47.067 --> 00:17:55.916
I<00:17:47.083> mean,<00:17:47.388> in<00:17:47.484> a<00:17:47.628> way<00:17:48.013> it's<00:17:48.173> kind<00:17:48.366> of<00:17:48.430> like,<00:17:48.670> you<00:17:48.766> know,<00:17:48.927> when<00:17:49.055> you're<00:17:49.231> boarding<00:17:49.552> an<00:17:49.632> airplane,<00:17:50.674> you've<00:17:50.979> got<00:17:51.299> the,<00:17:51.556> you<00:17:51.652> know,<00:17:52.037> diamond<00:17:52.421> level,<00:17:52.838> platinum<00:17:53.319> level,<00:17:54.024> and<00:17:54.121> then<00:17:54.297> you've<00:17:54.650> got,<00:17:54.842> you<00:17:54.938> know,<00:17:55.323> various<00:17:55.707> levels.

00:17:55.964 --> 00:18:01.078
If<00:17:56.044> you<00:17:56.124> fly<00:17:56.365> United,<00:17:57.006> it's<00:17:57.166> kind<00:17:57.327> of<00:17:57.487> boarding<00:17:57.872> group,<00:17:58.272> you<00:17:58.304> know,<00:17:58.529> 1<00:17:58.769> through<00:17:58.930> 6<00:17:59.394> or<00:17:59.491> 1<00:17:59.715> through<00:17:59.875> 5<00:18:00.388> or<00:18:00.533> whatnot.

00:18:01.398 --> 00:18:02.905
That's<00:18:01.591> essentially<00:18:02.296> what<00:18:02.456> that<00:18:02.681> is.

00:18:03.899 --> 00:18:05.294
It's<00:18:04.059> a<00:18:04.139> customer<00:18:04.620> value<00:18:04.941> model.

00:18:05.742 --> 00:18:19.496
And<00:18:05.823> I<00:18:05.983> think<00:18:06.207> that<00:18:06.384> kind<00:18:06.688> of<00:18:06.784> analogy<00:18:07.586> could<00:18:07.826> be<00:18:08.067> really<00:18:08.371> helpful<00:18:09.493> in<00:18:09.814> integrating<00:18:10.391> that<00:18:10.712> into<00:18:10.952> the<00:18:11.112> data<00:18:11.738> and<00:18:11.898> analytics<00:18:12.635> to<00:18:12.796> determine<00:18:14.142> how<00:18:14.238> do<00:18:14.383> you<00:18:14.463> make<00:18:14.639> sure<00:18:14.880> you<00:18:15.040> don't<00:18:15.280> punish<00:18:15.745> everybody<00:18:16.723> as<00:18:16.947> you're<00:18:17.108> trying<00:18:17.589> to<00:18:18.005> keep<00:18:18.310> out<00:18:18.550> just<00:18:18.791> the<00:18:18.887> bad<00:18:19.128> guys?

00:18:19.929 --> 00:18:34.987
Or<00:18:20.073> how<00:18:20.250> do<00:18:20.314> you<00:18:20.346> make<00:18:20.634> sure<00:18:21.532> that<00:18:21.917> the,<00:18:22.318> the<00:18:22.414> bad<00:18:22.654> guy's<00:18:22.911> experience<00:18:23.937> is<00:18:24.337> confined<00:18:24.898> to<00:18:25.059> them<00:18:25.764> and<00:18:25.876> everyone<00:18:26.325> else<00:18:26.582> transact<00:18:27.160> so<00:18:27.369> that<00:18:27.466> you're<00:18:27.626> not<00:18:27.803> spending<00:18:28.285> a<00:18:28.349> fortune<00:18:29.073> and<00:18:29.314> potentially<00:18:30.342> including<00:18:30.921> needless<00:18:31.467> friction<00:18:31.885> into<00:18:32.142> the<00:18:32.287> process<00:18:33.814> just<00:18:33.974> to<00:18:34.119> keep<00:18:34.360> out<00:18:34.521> the<00:18:34.601> bad<00:18:34.794> guys.

00:18:36.210 --> 00:18:47.410
Given<00:18:36.322> everything<00:18:36.887> that<00:18:37.194> you,<00:18:38.017> you<00:18:38.098> have<00:18:38.275> to<00:18:38.420> deal<00:18:38.598> with<00:18:38.824> and<00:18:38.969> think<00:18:39.147> about<00:18:39.695> and<00:18:40.357> make<00:18:40.599> sure<00:18:40.760> that<00:18:40.906> the<00:18:41.002> product<00:18:41.341> and<00:18:41.422> Octoro<00:18:42.439> can<00:18:43.084> help<00:18:43.326> customers<00:18:43.746> with,<00:18:44.714> how<00:18:44.876> do<00:18:44.940> you<00:18:45.053> decide<00:18:45.846> where<00:18:46.074> to<00:18:46.156> spend<00:18:46.481> your<00:18:46.644> time<00:18:46.986> each<00:18:47.231> day?

00:18:49.027 --> 00:18:53.490
Yeah,<00:18:50.402> to<00:18:50.515> me<00:18:50.822> it's<00:18:51.048> all<00:18:51.226> about<00:18:51.873> what<00:18:52.116> has<00:18:52.520> the<00:18:52.681> biggest<00:18:53.069> impact.

00:18:53.571 --> 00:19:04.605
You<00:18:53.668> know,<00:18:54.056> the<00:18:54.137> old,<00:18:54.282> the<00:18:54.525> old<00:18:54.929> analogy<00:18:55.559> still<00:18:55.753> holds<00:18:56.012> like<00:18:56.238> way<00:18:56.335> back<00:18:58.450> back<00:18:58.498> in<00:18:58.578> the<00:18:58.706> day,<00:18:59.828> you<00:18:59.860> know,<00:19:00.020> Stephen<00:19:00.389> Covey<00:19:01.030> wrote<00:19:01.191> his<00:19:01.367> book,<00:19:01.768> the,<00:19:02.233> you<00:19:02.265> know,<00:19:02.746> Seven<00:19:03.050> Habits<00:19:03.451> of<00:19:03.579> Highly<00:19:03.852> Effective<00:19:04.333> People.

00:19:05.118 --> 00:19:07.346
And<00:19:05.214> there's<00:19:05.936> an<00:19:06.256> analogy<00:19:06.817> in<00:19:06.978> there,<00:19:07.138> right?

00:19:07.442 --> 00:19:11.899
In<00:19:07.539> terms<00:19:07.939> of<00:19:08.100> there's<00:19:08.340> a<00:19:08.420> jar<00:19:09.061> and<00:19:09.142> the<00:19:09.286> question<00:19:09.703> is<00:19:09.927> how<00:19:10.023> many<00:19:10.328> rocks<00:19:10.664> can<00:19:10.825> you<00:19:10.985> put<00:19:11.209> into<00:19:11.466> that<00:19:11.690> jar?

00:19:12.412 --> 00:19:18.712
And<00:19:12.508> that<00:19:12.732> jar<00:19:12.989> could<00:19:13.229> be<00:19:13.614> your<00:19:13.854> day,<00:19:14.335> that<00:19:14.576> jar<00:19:14.832> could<00:19:15.057> be<00:19:15.393> your<00:19:15.618> resources,<00:19:16.515> your<00:19:16.740> engineering<00:19:17.237> capacity<00:19:17.878> or<00:19:18.038> whatnot.

00:19:19.080 --> 00:19:22.703
And<00:19:19.225> how<00:19:19.401> do<00:19:19.481> you<00:19:19.577> determine<00:19:20.603> what's<00:19:20.908> the<00:19:20.940> maximum<00:19:21.565> number<00:19:21.886> of<00:19:22.062> rocks,<00:19:22.511> right?

00:19:22.751 --> 00:19:29.788
So<00:19:23.633> the<00:19:23.729> parable<00:19:24.210> goes,<00:19:24.755> if<00:19:24.851> you<00:19:24.947> start<00:19:25.332> with<00:19:25.476> all<00:19:25.813> the<00:19:25.909> little<00:19:26.278> rocks<00:19:26.759> that<00:19:26.855> you<00:19:27.015> put<00:19:27.240> in<00:19:27.336> there,<00:19:27.977> you're<00:19:28.137> not<00:19:28.298> gonna<00:19:28.538> have<00:19:28.779> room<00:19:29.083> for<00:19:29.179> the<00:19:29.324> big<00:19:29.500> rocks.

00:19:29.885 --> 00:19:39.669
You<00:19:29.981> actually<00:19:30.350> You<00:19:30.446> want<00:19:30.542> to<00:19:30.607> start<00:19:30.944> with<00:19:31.040> the<00:19:31.249> most<00:19:31.667> impactful<00:19:32.390> things<00:19:32.776> first,<00:19:33.595> and<00:19:33.756> then<00:19:34.142> you<00:19:34.318> can<00:19:34.624> add<00:19:34.865> to<00:19:35.106> it<00:19:35.347> all<00:19:35.668> the<00:19:35.764> other<00:19:36.005> stuff<00:19:36.391> along<00:19:36.648> the<00:19:36.729> side<00:19:37.130> that<00:19:37.275> inevitably<00:19:38.335> takes<00:19:38.721> up<00:19:38.882> a<00:19:38.898> lot<00:19:39.139> of<00:19:39.203> your<00:19:39.380> time.

00:19:40.649 --> 00:19:46.273
So<00:19:41.549> I<00:19:41.629> think<00:19:41.854> it's<00:19:42.015> really<00:19:42.256> about<00:19:42.497> understanding<00:19:43.782> what<00:19:43.959> is<00:19:44.184> urgent<00:19:44.923> versus<00:19:45.389> what<00:19:45.550> is<00:19:45.662> important.

00:19:46.610 --> 00:19:56.235
And<00:19:46.691> you<00:19:46.835> want<00:19:46.996> to<00:19:47.076> make<00:19:47.253> sure<00:19:47.735> you<00:19:47.896> carve<00:19:48.282> out<00:19:48.442> time<00:19:49.005> for<00:19:49.181> the<00:19:49.262> important<00:19:49.808> stuff,<00:19:50.226> the<00:19:50.370> big<00:19:50.547> stuff,<00:19:51.270> both<00:19:51.575> on<00:19:51.656> a<00:19:51.672> personal<00:19:52.234> basis<00:19:52.797> as<00:19:52.957> well<00:19:53.279> as<00:19:53.504> more<00:19:53.664> broadly,<00:19:54.805> what's<00:19:55.030> the<00:19:55.127> product<00:19:55.512> team<00:19:55.753> focused<00:19:56.171> on?

00:19:56.717 --> 00:20:01.037
Your<00:19:56.878> sales<00:19:57.215> team,<00:19:57.456> your<00:19:57.616> marketing<00:19:58.098> team,<00:19:58.483> your<00:19:58.660> customer<00:19:59.062> success<00:19:59.543> team,<00:19:59.848> all<00:20:00.025> of<00:20:00.170> your<00:20:00.330> various<00:20:00.667> teams.

00:20:01.390 --> 00:20:07.315
I<00:20:01.535> think<00:20:01.711> it<00:20:01.968> applies<00:20:02.498> equally<00:20:03.397> to<00:20:03.526> make<00:20:03.718> sure<00:20:04.184> you<00:20:04.345> do<00:20:04.521> the<00:20:04.682> things<00:20:05.003> that<00:20:05.228> has<00:20:05.967> the<00:20:06.191> biggest<00:20:06.673> impact<00:20:07.091> first.

00:20:07.412 --> 00:20:11.972
In<00:20:07.556> fact,<00:20:08.231> our<00:20:08.440> first<00:20:08.921> value<00:20:09.885> as<00:20:09.981> a<00:20:10.126> company<00:20:10.848> is<00:20:11.025> make<00:20:11.282> an<00:20:11.410> impact.

00:20:12.133 --> 00:20:17.111
So<00:20:12.310> making<00:20:12.631> an<00:20:12.775> impact<00:20:13.289> is<00:20:13.498> all<00:20:13.675> about<00:20:14.060> deciding<00:20:15.184> what<00:20:15.296> do<00:20:15.425> you<00:20:15.586> do<00:20:16.164> and<00:20:16.324> what<00:20:16.421> do<00:20:16.549> you<00:20:16.581> not<00:20:16.983> do.

00:20:18.331 --> 00:20:23.374
You<00:20:18.428> mentioned<00:20:18.733> Stephen<00:20:19.054> Covey's,<00:20:19.616> you<00:20:19.696> know,<00:20:20.098> infamous,<00:20:20.804> uh,<00:20:21.367> Seven<00:20:21.607> Habits<00:20:22.330> of<00:20:22.491> Highly<00:20:22.731> Effective<00:20:23.069> People.

00:20:24.337 --> 00:20:24.930
What<00:20:24.433> do<00:20:24.497> you<00:20:24.657> read?

00:20:25.315 --> 00:20:27.127
What<00:20:25.475> reading<00:20:25.716> recommendations<00:20:26.502> would<00:20:26.598> you<00:20:26.678> have<00:20:26.838> for<00:20:26.999> us?

00:20:28.202 --> 00:20:37.616
Yeah,<00:20:28.907> uh,<00:20:29.244> well,<00:20:29.565> recently,<00:20:30.351> uh,<00:20:30.992> my<00:20:31.153> husband<00:20:31.618> has<00:20:31.874> retired,<00:20:32.676> and<00:20:33.141> he's<00:20:33.478> been<00:20:33.719> a,<00:20:34.039> uh,<00:20:34.536> he's<00:20:34.777> been<00:20:34.921> in<00:20:35.018> the<00:20:35.082> startup<00:20:35.563> world<00:20:35.819> for<00:20:35.964> the<00:20:36.060> last<00:20:36.461> 30<00:20:36.766> years<00:20:37.263> as<00:20:37.487> well.

00:20:38.450 --> 00:20:52.424
And<00:20:38.850> he<00:20:39.027> wrote<00:20:39.187> a<00:20:39.348> book<00:20:39.668> called<00:20:39.925> The<00:20:40.005> Startup<00:20:40.615> Lottery,<00:20:41.497> um,<00:20:41.994> to<00:20:42.138> help<00:20:42.555> understand,<00:20:43.742> uh,<00:20:43.998> and<00:20:44.079> partially<00:20:44.464> it's<00:20:44.704> informed<00:20:45.121> by<00:20:45.522> my<00:20:45.747> experience,<00:20:46.468> his<00:20:46.645> experience,<00:20:47.511> and<00:20:47.687> what,<00:20:48.008> what's<00:20:48.248> been<00:20:48.345> around<00:20:48.810> to<00:20:48.970> say<00:20:49.917> How<00:20:50.094> do<00:20:50.174> you<00:20:50.270> know<00:20:50.495> if<00:20:50.656> a<00:20:50.672> startup<00:20:51.154> is<00:20:51.299> going<00:20:51.395> to<00:20:51.459> be<00:20:51.556> successful?

00:20:52.568 --> 00:20:54.320
How<00:20:52.745> do<00:20:52.809> you<00:20:52.986> diligence<00:20:53.532> that<00:20:53.773> up<00:20:53.950> front?

00:20:54.673 --> 00:20:57.678
What<00:20:55.011> are<00:20:55.075> the<00:20:55.155> various<00:20:55.718> phases<00:20:56.585> of<00:20:56.858> success?

00:20:58.192 --> 00:21:02.755
And<00:20:58.674> there's<00:20:58.915> a<00:20:58.995> lot<00:20:59.253> of<00:21:00.217> basic<00:21:00.715> literacy,<00:21:01.261> like<00:21:01.566> what<00:21:01.759> are<00:21:01.920> stock<00:21:02.305> options?

00:21:02.852 --> 00:21:03.623
How<00:21:03.029> do<00:21:03.189> they<00:21:03.350> work?

00:21:03.768 --> 00:21:11.191
So<00:21:04.394> it's<00:21:04.555> kind<00:21:04.796> of<00:21:04.876> a<00:21:04.957> Bible<00:21:05.664> for<00:21:05.905> the<00:21:06.001> rest<00:21:06.306> of<00:21:06.403> us,<00:21:06.644> if<00:21:06.788> you<00:21:06.885> will,<00:21:07.287> for<00:21:07.512> employees<00:21:08.251> to<00:21:08.347> determine,<00:21:09.922> is<00:21:10.034> a<00:21:10.098> startup<00:21:10.564> right<00:21:10.805> for<00:21:10.966> them?

00:21:11.304 --> 00:21:15.449
What<00:21:11.529> is<00:21:11.625> that<00:21:11.850> journey<00:21:12.252> like<00:21:12.589> and<00:21:12.814> how<00:21:12.910> do<00:21:13.055> they<00:21:13.151> make<00:21:13.312> sure<00:21:13.794> they<00:21:13.939> are<00:21:14.260> informed<00:21:15.064> customers?

00:21:16.283 --> 00:21:17.165
As<00:21:16.507> part<00:21:16.604> of<00:21:16.668> that<00:21:16.748> process.

00:21:17.549 --> 00:21:18.335
That's<00:21:17.870> very<00:21:18.191> cool.

00:21:18.511 --> 00:21:22.166
We'll<00:21:18.671> include<00:21:18.944> a<00:21:19.072> link<00:21:19.248> to<00:21:19.345> that<00:21:19.569> book,<00:21:20.034> um,<00:21:20.916> uh,<00:21:21.188> so<00:21:21.332> people<00:21:21.637> can<00:21:21.733> check<00:21:21.974> it<00:21:22.054> out.

00:21:22.679 --> 00:21:26.991
What<00:21:23.272> are<00:21:23.400> you<00:21:23.577> reading<00:21:23.897> throughout<00:21:24.378> the<00:21:24.619> week,<00:21:25.019> throughout<00:21:25.484> the<00:21:25.580> day,<00:21:26.061> throughout<00:21:26.318> the<00:21:26.398> month?

00:21:27.103 --> 00:21:28.161
Like,<00:21:27.328> are<00:21:27.424> you<00:21:27.584> reading<00:21:27.905> books?

00:21:28.209 --> 00:21:30.021
Are<00:21:28.289> you<00:21:28.386> reading<00:21:29.107> magazine<00:21:29.588> articles?

00:21:30.069 --> 00:21:31.079
Are<00:21:30.213> you<00:21:30.309> reading<00:21:30.630> news?

00:21:31.736 --> 00:21:33.980
I'm,<00:21:32.008> I'm<00:21:32.457> doing<00:21:33.018> all<00:21:33.259> of<00:21:33.339> the<00:21:33.451> above.

00:21:34.221 --> 00:21:41.354
Um,<00:21:35.102> I<00:21:35.263> read<00:21:36.000> The<00:21:36.080> Wall<00:21:36.240> Street<00:21:36.481> Journal<00:21:36.818> and<00:21:36.946> The<00:21:36.978> New<00:21:37.122> York<00:21:37.363> Times<00:21:38.068> on<00:21:38.228> a<00:21:38.805> daily,<00:21:39.527> you<00:21:39.687> know,<00:21:40.312> religious<00:21:40.809> basis.

00:21:42.156 --> 00:21:45.506
Um,<00:21:42.572> and<00:21:43.117> it's<00:21:43.358> always<00:21:43.711> nice<00:21:43.999> to<00:21:44.095> have<00:21:44.256> something<00:21:44.656> to<00:21:44.801> read<00:21:45.041> for<00:21:45.201> fun.

00:21:45.698 --> 00:21:52.960
So<00:21:46.644> I<00:21:46.724> was<00:21:46.965> actually<00:21:49.027> at<00:21:49.172> a<00:21:49.269> conference<00:21:50.381> in<00:21:51.187> New<00:21:51.348> York<00:21:51.913> a<00:21:52.009> couple<00:21:52.316> of<00:21:52.396> years<00:21:52.735> ago.

00:21:53.202 --> 00:22:05.576
And<00:21:53.380> one<00:21:53.541> of<00:21:53.621> the<00:21:53.702> nicest<00:21:54.331> handouts<00:21:54.975> was<00:21:55.137> actually<00:21:55.862> a<00:21:55.959> bag<00:21:56.507> of—<00:21:56.750> and<00:21:57.235> Jamie<00:21:57.493> Dimon,<00:21:59.514> the<00:21:59.611> head<00:21:59.983> of<00:22:00.225> JPMorgan,<00:22:02.165> gave<00:22:02.424> out<00:22:02.909> books<00:22:03.313> that<00:22:04.202> made<00:22:04.428> an<00:22:04.590> impact<00:22:05.075> on<00:22:05.237> him.

00:22:05.964 --> 00:22:07.678
And<00:22:06.045> they<00:22:06.110> weren't<00:22:06.368> all<00:22:06.708> just<00:22:07.031> business<00:22:07.435> books.

00:22:07.726 --> 00:22:10.409
There<00:22:07.775> were<00:22:07.920> books<00:22:08.227> about<00:22:08.486> the<00:22:08.550> importance<00:22:09.035> of<00:22:09.116> sleep<00:22:09.472> and<00:22:09.601> things<00:22:09.860> like<00:22:10.102> that.

00:22:10.814 --> 00:22:15.825
But<00:22:10.975> one<00:22:11.137> of<00:22:11.234> the<00:22:11.315> books<00:22:11.638> in<00:22:11.719> that<00:22:12.850> bag<00:22:13.238> of<00:22:13.416> books<00:22:14.208> was<00:22:14.709> The<00:22:15.017> Other<00:22:15.340> Wes<00:22:15.744> Moore.

00:22:17.036 --> 00:22:22.513
So<00:22:17.261> Wes<00:22:17.518> Moore<00:22:17.903> is<00:22:17.999> the<00:22:18.144> governor<00:22:18.642> of<00:22:18.787> Maryland,<00:22:19.911> and<00:22:20.168> this<00:22:20.409> is<00:22:20.505> a<00:22:20.569> story<00:22:21.373> about<00:22:21.935> his<00:22:22.320> life.

00:22:22.593 --> 00:22:23.750
It's<00:22:22.738> his<00:22:22.963> autobiography.

00:22:24.248 --> 00:22:38.046
And<00:22:24.344> there<00:22:24.489> was<00:22:24.810> another<00:22:25.228> boy<00:22:25.565> named<00:22:25.934> Wes<00:22:26.336> Moore<00:22:26.738> and<00:22:26.898> how<00:22:27.155> his<00:22:27.460> life<00:22:27.782> turned<00:22:28.039> out<00:22:28.761> and<00:22:28.906> how<00:22:29.388> they<00:22:29.565> both<00:22:29.806> started<00:22:30.271> off<00:22:30.769> in<00:22:30.930> really<00:22:31.476> hard<00:22:31.974> surroundings<00:22:33.805> in<00:22:34.046> the<00:22:34.142> Bronx<00:22:35.572> and<00:22:35.733> how<00:22:35.990> these<00:22:36.231> two<00:22:36.456> lives<00:22:36.873> diverge<00:22:37.307> very<00:22:37.596> differently.

00:22:38.094 --> 00:22:41.419
So<00:22:38.303> it's<00:22:38.463> really<00:22:38.720> a<00:22:38.736> story<00:22:39.266> about,<00:22:40.005> like,<00:22:40.230> what<00:22:40.391> are<00:22:40.471> the<00:22:40.568> choices<00:22:41.114> you<00:22:41.210> make?

00:22:42.157 --> 00:22:43.665
What's<00:22:42.478> the<00:22:42.558> support<00:22:43.055> you<00:22:43.216> have?

00:22:43.793 --> 00:22:46.264
Like<00:22:44.082> in<00:22:44.243> his<00:22:44.419> case,<00:22:44.804> it's<00:22:44.964> kind<00:22:45.141> of<00:22:45.365> what<00:22:45.462> did<00:22:45.622> his<00:22:45.847> mother<00:22:46.168> do?

00:22:46.344 --> 00:22:53.579
Right<00:22:46.569> now<00:22:46.906> I'm<00:22:47.563> at<00:22:47.692> the<00:22:47.788> juncture<00:22:48.189> where<00:22:48.734> he<00:22:48.895> was<00:22:49.055> getting<00:22:49.200> himself<00:22:49.857> into<00:22:50.290> some<00:22:50.595> drugs<00:22:50.996> and<00:22:51.077> some<00:22:51.301> trouble<00:22:51.863> and<00:22:51.959> his<00:22:52.183> mother<00:22:52.504> put<00:22:52.617> him<00:22:52.761> in<00:22:52.841> military<00:22:53.339> school.

00:22:53.659 --> 00:22:57.510
So<00:22:53.804> right<00:22:53.964> now<00:22:54.285> he's<00:22:54.622> shown<00:22:54.863> up<00:22:55.023> in<00:22:55.071> military<00:22:55.584> school<00:22:56.451> and<00:22:56.595> there's<00:22:56.772> his<00:22:56.948> experience.

00:22:57.558 --> 00:23:06.734
So<00:22:57.959> I<00:22:58.055> think<00:22:58.231> it's<00:22:58.376> just<00:22:58.600> really<00:22:58.777> important<00:22:59.402> to<00:22:59.515> step<00:23:00.044> out<00:23:00.221> of<00:23:00.317> your<00:23:00.541> day-to-day<00:23:01.648> and<00:23:01.729> just<00:23:01.969> read<00:23:02.210> something<00:23:02.611> completely<00:23:03.269> different<00:23:03.750> because<00:23:04.151> it<00:23:04.231> expands<00:23:04.777> your<00:23:05.659> mind<00:23:05.980> and<00:23:06.076> your<00:23:06.317> horizon.

00:23:06.782 --> 00:23:07.793
So<00:23:06.862> that's<00:23:07.007> what<00:23:07.135> I'm<00:23:07.279> reading<00:23:07.504> right<00:23:07.616> now.

00:23:08.130 --> 00:23:09.075
Oh,<00:23:08.226> that's<00:23:08.883> cool.

00:23:09.428 --> 00:23:11.079
Yeah,<00:23:09.668> we'll<00:23:10.245> link<00:23:10.406> to<00:23:10.470> that<00:23:10.630> one<00:23:10.742> as<00:23:10.951> well.

00:23:11.832 --> 00:23:17.956
Um,<00:23:12.153> how<00:23:12.249> do<00:23:12.313> you—<00:23:12.474> you<00:23:12.570> mentioned<00:23:12.810> this<00:23:12.971> a<00:23:13.035> little<00:23:13.227> bit,<00:23:13.596> like,<00:23:13.836> your—<00:23:14.237> the<00:23:14.333> goal<00:23:14.509> of<00:23:14.574> the<00:23:14.654> company<00:23:14.974> is<00:23:15.119> like,<00:23:15.311> hey,<00:23:15.455> let's<00:23:15.616> make<00:23:15.792> an<00:23:15.920> impact,<00:23:16.417> a<00:23:16.481> positive<00:23:16.898> impact<00:23:17.315> in<00:23:17.379> the<00:23:17.523> world.

00:23:18.501 --> 00:23:21.723
How<00:23:18.645> do<00:23:18.725> you—<00:23:19.062> how<00:23:19.222> do<00:23:19.286> you<00:23:19.383> define<00:23:20.008> culture<00:23:20.585> inside<00:23:20.986> of<00:23:21.082> your<00:23:21.290> company?

00:23:21.787 --> 00:23:23.567
Yeah,<00:23:22.412> that's<00:23:22.765> a<00:23:22.893> great<00:23:23.150> question.

00:23:24.176 --> 00:23:31.229
Um,<00:23:25.314> another,<00:23:25.875> another<00:23:26.195> parable,<00:23:26.757> and<00:23:26.901> it's,<00:23:27.221> uh,<00:23:28.023> it's<00:23:28.279> been<00:23:28.840> attributed<00:23:29.562> to<00:23:30.123> an<00:23:30.267> African<00:23:30.684> proverb.

00:23:31.389 --> 00:23:36.856
I<00:23:31.421> don't<00:23:31.630> know<00:23:31.726> if<00:23:31.806> that's<00:23:32.127> urban<00:23:32.431> legend<00:23:32.928> or<00:23:33.088> real,<00:23:33.569> but<00:23:33.794> it's,<00:23:34.195> it<00:23:34.307> says,<00:23:34.675> you<00:23:34.707> know,<00:23:35.012> if<00:23:35.092> you<00:23:35.236> want<00:23:35.413> to<00:23:35.557> go<00:23:35.717> fast,<00:23:36.214> go<00:23:36.455> alone.

00:23:36.920 --> 00:23:38.859
If<00:23:37.032> you<00:23:37.160> want<00:23:37.320> to<00:23:37.417> go<00:23:37.641> far,<00:23:38.202> go<00:23:38.378> together.

00:23:39.565 --> 00:23:43.797
Um,<00:23:39.837> so<00:23:40.030> So<00:23:40.062> go<00:23:40.286> far<00:23:40.607> together<00:23:41.424> is<00:23:41.649> another<00:23:42.610> value<00:23:43.027> for<00:23:43.252> the<00:23:43.348> company.

00:23:44.454 --> 00:23:45.848
I'll<00:23:45.015> tell<00:23:45.175> you<00:23:45.528> the<00:23:45.656> 4.

00:23:45.929 --> 00:23:53.815
So<00:23:46.073> it's<00:23:46.249> make<00:23:46.490> an<00:23:46.618> impact,<00:23:47.756> go<00:23:47.996> far<00:23:48.381> together,<00:23:49.519> shed<00:23:50.401> more<00:23:50.882> light<00:23:51.523> than<00:23:51.748> heat,<00:23:52.789> and<00:23:53.030> enjoy<00:23:53.367> the<00:23:53.511> journey.

00:23:54.088 --> 00:24:00.356
And<00:23:54.248> those<00:23:54.569> 4<00:23:54.954> things,<00:23:55.370> which<00:23:55.595> we<00:23:55.691> spent<00:23:56.156> a<00:23:56.172> lot<00:23:56.348> of<00:23:56.476> time<00:23:57.214> cultivating,<00:23:57.919> kind<00:23:58.112> of<00:23:58.240> represents<00:23:59.057> the<00:23:59.218> culture<00:23:59.779> of<00:23:59.859> the<00:23:59.939> company.

00:24:00.420 --> 00:24:05.950
So<00:24:00.724> impact<00:24:01.221> is<00:24:01.847> obviously<00:24:02.408> all<00:24:02.568> about<00:24:02.969> what<00:24:03.145> we<00:24:03.369> do<00:24:03.770> in<00:24:03.866> terms<00:24:04.267> of<00:24:04.427> returns<00:24:04.908> and<00:24:05.053> reverse<00:24:05.373> logistics.

00:24:06.030 --> 00:24:11.208
And<00:24:06.127> it's<00:24:06.431> impactful<00:24:07.136> for<00:24:07.874> our<00:24:08.034> customers<00:24:08.675> first<00:24:08.980> and<00:24:09.076> foremost,<00:24:09.637> which<00:24:09.797> are<00:24:09.878> the<00:24:10.022> retailers<00:24:10.583> and<00:24:10.679> brands.

00:24:11.930 --> 00:24:19.556
Impactful<00:24:12.202> for<00:24:12.347> shoppers<00:24:13.230> and<00:24:13.326> the<00:24:13.487> planet<00:24:14.113> because<00:24:14.434> we're<00:24:14.595> creating<00:24:15.398> what's<00:24:15.574> called<00:24:16.040> a<00:24:16.056> circular<00:24:16.634> economy,<00:24:17.405> or<00:24:17.501> it's<00:24:17.662> software<00:24:18.224> to<00:24:18.449> promote<00:24:18.786> circularity.

00:24:20.151 --> 00:24:31.422
The<00:24:20.247> second<00:24:20.632> aspect<00:24:21.130> of<00:24:21.275> it<00:24:21.435> is<00:24:21.596> shed<00:24:21.997> more<00:24:22.318> light<00:24:22.623> than<00:24:22.800> heat,<00:24:23.667> is<00:24:23.844> that<00:24:24.406> a<00:24:24.470> lot<00:24:24.647> of<00:24:24.727> times<00:24:26.316> answers<00:24:26.878> aren't<00:24:27.200> obvious<00:24:28.083> and<00:24:28.243> you<00:24:28.340> need<00:24:28.564> to<00:24:28.741> work<00:24:29.046> through<00:24:30.009> what<00:24:30.250> the<00:24:30.411> right<00:24:30.668> thing<00:24:30.909> to<00:24:31.053> do<00:24:31.374> is.

00:24:31.471 --> 00:24:38.134
That<00:24:31.712> could<00:24:31.936> be<00:24:32.579> a<00:24:32.595> solution<00:24:33.076> to<00:24:33.221> a<00:24:33.317> problem,<00:24:34.521> a<00:24:34.602> product<00:24:34.955> strategy<00:24:35.405> question,<00:24:36.272> or<00:24:36.368> what<00:24:36.529> do<00:24:36.593> you<00:24:36.753> do<00:24:36.930> in<00:24:37.010> a<00:24:37.091> given<00:24:37.412> scenario.

00:24:38.536 --> 00:24:48.901
And<00:24:38.841> we<00:24:39.082> really<00:24:39.403> want<00:24:39.563> to<00:24:39.740> bring<00:24:40.687> rationality,<00:24:41.906> data,<00:24:43.013> you<00:24:43.125> know,<00:24:43.494> perspective<00:24:44.457> and<00:24:44.553> judgment<00:24:45.436> rather<00:24:45.917> than,<00:24:46.463> you<00:24:46.575> know,<00:24:46.880> just<00:24:47.184> kind<00:24:47.345> of<00:24:47.505> blind<00:24:47.987> anger<00:24:48.324> and<00:24:48.420> emotion.

00:24:48.965 --> 00:24:56.073
I<00:24:49.046> feel<00:24:49.350> like<00:24:49.591> there's<00:24:49.848> way<00:24:50.153> too<00:24:50.313> much<00:24:50.505> of<00:24:50.634> that<00:24:50.794> in<00:24:50.891> our<00:24:51.051> country<00:24:52.415> more,<00:24:52.960> more<00:24:53.217> generally,<00:24:54.163> and<00:24:54.500> especially<00:24:54.901> in<00:24:54.982> the<00:24:55.126> business<00:24:55.463> environment.

00:24:56.426 --> 00:25:03.854
We<00:24:56.586> want<00:24:56.746> to<00:24:56.907> be<00:24:57.228> data-driven<00:24:57.950> and<00:24:58.110> data-informed<00:24:59.137> as<00:24:59.313> to<00:25:00.099> what<00:25:00.340> we're<00:25:00.436> contributing<00:25:01.062> to<00:25:01.158> the<00:25:01.239> conversation<00:25:01.944> and<00:25:02.041> how<00:25:02.201> we're<00:25:02.362> helping<00:25:02.779> solve<00:25:03.260> the<00:25:03.388> problem.

00:25:04.688 --> 00:25:15.878
The<00:25:04.848> third<00:25:05.089> part<00:25:05.346> of<00:25:05.474> it,<00:25:05.795> which<00:25:05.971> is<00:25:06.036> is<00:25:06.597> Go<00:25:06.773> Far<00:25:07.077> Together<00:25:07.574> really<00:25:07.895> speaks<00:25:08.360> to<00:25:09.161> how<00:25:09.418> we<00:25:09.578> think<00:25:09.835> about<00:25:10.604> teaming<00:25:11.021> with<00:25:11.181> each<00:25:11.422> other,<00:25:11.983> what<00:25:12.143> kind<00:25:12.399> of<00:25:12.528> teammates<00:25:13.025> we<00:25:13.185> want<00:25:13.393> to<00:25:13.506> be<00:25:13.810> internally<00:25:14.932> and<00:25:15.093> with<00:25:15.189> our<00:25:15.349> customers.

00:25:15.990 --> 00:25:18.507
They're<00:25:16.151> really<00:25:16.535> our<00:25:16.712> partners<00:25:17.273> in<00:25:17.353> the<00:25:17.673> broader<00:25:18.010> sense.

00:25:18.892 --> 00:25:20.655
So<00:25:19.276> how<00:25:19.437> do<00:25:19.517> we<00:25:19.661> show<00:25:19.982> up<00:25:20.142> for<00:25:20.302> them?

00:25:21.441 --> 00:25:23.444
How<00:25:21.681> is<00:25:21.841> this<00:25:22.066> a<00:25:22.146> win-win<00:25:22.643> relationship?

00:25:24.005 --> 00:25:25.224
And<00:25:24.150> how<00:25:24.246> do<00:25:24.390> we<00:25:24.486> treat<00:25:24.791> each<00:25:24.951> other?

00:25:25.304 --> 00:25:31.107
So<00:25:25.592> that's<00:25:25.849> another<00:25:26.410> key<00:25:26.634> element,<00:25:27.308> such<00:25:27.756> that<00:25:27.949> at<00:25:28.093> the<00:25:29.680> end,<00:25:30.257> enjoy<00:25:30.594> the<00:25:30.738> journey.

00:25:31.283 --> 00:25:33.110
I<00:25:31.299> mean,<00:25:31.604> we<00:25:31.700> spend<00:25:31.956> so<00:25:32.181> much<00:25:32.341> time<00:25:32.662> working.

00:25:33.463 --> 00:25:43.593
We're<00:25:34.088> on<00:25:34.489> our<00:25:34.649> phones<00:25:35.291> and<00:25:35.932> on<00:25:36.028> our<00:25:36.108> laptops<00:25:37.054> and<00:25:37.535> investing<00:25:37.920> We're<00:25:38.032> tested<00:25:38.256> all<00:25:38.432> day<00:25:38.833> and<00:25:39.618> all<00:25:39.859> hours,<00:25:41.542> you<00:25:41.654> know,<00:25:42.183> to<00:25:42.279> show<00:25:42.583> up<00:25:42.696> for<00:25:42.856> our<00:25:42.920> customers.

00:25:43.641 --> 00:25:46.831
And<00:25:43.737> it's<00:25:43.946> important<00:25:44.443> to<00:25:44.539> say,<00:25:45.004> enjoy<00:25:45.388> the<00:25:45.484> process,<00:25:46.125> enjoy<00:25:46.462> the<00:25:46.590> journey.

00:25:48.113 --> 00:25:54.075
You<00:25:48.193> mentioned<00:25:48.513> something<00:25:48.770> that,<00:25:49.155> you<00:25:49.187> know,<00:25:49.475> is<00:25:49.651> more<00:25:49.892> and<00:25:49.972> more<00:25:50.212> true,<00:25:51.815> particularly<00:25:52.200> in<00:25:52.232> the<00:25:52.312> present<00:25:52.616> day<00:25:52.713> than<00:25:52.809> maybe<00:25:53.097> it<00:25:53.177> was<00:25:53.338> 20<00:25:53.594> years<00:25:53.818> ago.

00:25:54.139 --> 00:25:59.284
And<00:25:54.283> that<00:25:54.460> is<00:25:54.620> that<00:25:55.357> CEOs<00:25:55.982> and<00:25:56.126> leaders<00:25:56.383> have<00:25:56.463> to<00:25:56.623> think<00:25:56.719> about<00:25:57.088> much<00:25:57.425> more<00:25:57.745> than<00:25:57.889> what's<00:25:58.066> happening<00:25:58.466> inside<00:25:58.771> of<00:25:58.803> their<00:25:58.947> company.

00:25:59.348 --> 00:26:05.246
They<00:25:59.412> also<00:25:59.652> have<00:25:59.749> to<00:25:59.845> think<00:25:59.989> about<00:26:00.149> what's<00:26:00.325> happening<00:26:00.694> outside<00:26:01.031> of<00:26:01.095> their<00:26:01.191> company,<00:26:01.576> the<00:26:01.656> macroeconomic<00:26:02.473> environment,<00:26:03.339> the<00:26:03.419> political<00:26:03.835> environment,<00:26:04.460> all<00:26:04.541> of<00:26:04.637> these<00:26:04.797> various<00:26:05.182> things.

00:26:05.374 --> 00:26:12.145
And<00:26:05.502> you<00:26:05.534> mentioned<00:26:05.839> kind<00:26:06.015> of<00:26:06.079> just<00:26:06.223> how<00:26:06.304> divided<00:26:06.961> we<00:26:07.121> are<00:26:08.790> as<00:26:08.902> a<00:26:09.031> culture,<00:26:09.849> as<00:26:10.010> a<00:26:10.090> country,<00:26:10.796> all<00:26:11.117> of<00:26:11.438> these<00:26:11.615> various<00:26:11.920> things.

00:26:12.803 --> 00:26:14.440
How<00:26:12.979> do<00:26:13.220> you<00:26:13.702> think<00:26:13.926> about<00:26:14.263> that?

00:26:14.504 --> 00:26:16.366
What<00:26:14.665> are<00:26:14.729> your<00:26:14.986> thoughts<00:26:15.307> on<00:26:15.387> the<00:26:15.467> current<00:26:15.644> state<00:26:15.885> of<00:26:15.949> the<00:26:16.093> world?

00:26:16.494 --> 00:26:23.284
And<00:26:17.474> one,<00:26:17.875> and<00:26:18.019> number<00:26:18.260> two,<00:26:18.437> how<00:26:18.597> do<00:26:18.693> you<00:26:18.854> think<00:26:19.175> about<00:26:20.122> your<00:26:20.347> responsibility<00:26:21.246> and<00:26:21.390> role<00:26:21.727> to<00:26:22.032> actually<00:26:22.369> have<00:26:22.594> an<00:26:22.674> opinion<00:26:23.172> there?

00:26:24.440 --> 00:26:24.697
Yeah.

00:26:25.162 --> 00:26:35.756
Um,<00:26:25.515> so<00:26:25.740> first<00:26:26.061> of<00:26:26.205> all,<00:26:26.526> I<00:26:26.687> think<00:26:27.827> the<00:26:27.971> world<00:26:28.533> is<00:26:28.709> just<00:26:28.950> such<00:26:29.576> a<00:26:30.459> complicated,<00:26:31.743> um,<00:26:32.465> and<00:26:32.963> challenging<00:26:34.070> place<00:26:34.472> and<00:26:34.568> time<00:26:34.953> right<00:26:35.130> now,<00:26:35.595> right?

00:26:35.836 --> 00:26:43.597
You've<00:26:36.013> got<00:26:36.655> wars,<00:26:37.136> you've<00:26:37.361> got<00:26:37.538> elections,<00:26:39.062> You've<00:26:39.286> got<00:26:40.023> climate<00:26:40.488> change,<00:26:41.049> we've<00:26:41.145> got<00:26:41.305> stressors<00:26:42.251> of<00:26:42.491> all<00:26:42.828> different<00:26:43.148> kinds.

00:26:43.934 --> 00:26:49.526
And<00:26:44.575> to<00:26:44.671> me,<00:26:44.975> it<00:26:45.135> goes<00:26:45.472> back<00:26:45.857> to<00:26:46.818> try<00:26:47.796> to<00:26:48.180> find<00:26:48.933> something.

00:26:49.703 --> 00:26:53.853
And<00:26:49.943> inevitably,<00:26:50.904> there's<00:26:51.786> 2<00:26:51.962> or<00:26:52.138> maybe<00:26:52.443> 10<00:26:52.747> sides<00:26:53.164> to<00:26:53.324> every<00:26:53.581> story.

00:26:54.622 --> 00:27:01.080
So<00:26:55.327> how<00:26:55.488> do<00:26:55.568> you<00:26:55.712> actually<00:26:56.209> engage<00:26:56.690> in<00:26:56.834> the<00:26:56.930> dialogue<00:26:57.571> where<00:26:57.795> you're<00:26:58.036> trying<00:26:58.516> to<00:26:58.997> understand<00:26:59.750> somebody<00:27:00.199> else's<00:27:00.616> position?

00:27:01.193 --> 00:27:04.269
So<00:27:02.779> empathy<00:27:03.340> is<00:27:03.484> a<00:27:03.564> key<00:27:03.821> aspect.

00:27:04.766 --> 00:27:11.563
Of<00:27:05.247> anybody<00:27:05.824> working<00:27:06.225> together<00:27:06.946> and<00:27:07.091> working<00:27:07.572> effectively<00:27:08.309> to<00:27:08.533> even<00:27:08.790> start<00:27:09.191> a<00:27:09.287> dialogue,<00:27:09.912> let<00:27:10.136> alone<00:27:10.473> collaborate.

00:27:11.675 --> 00:27:19.899
So<00:27:11.980> empathy<00:27:12.397> is<00:27:12.573> a<00:27:12.637> real<00:27:12.958> key<00:27:13.262> part<00:27:13.583> of<00:27:13.663> that<00:27:14.384> to<00:27:14.481> say,<00:27:14.785> put<00:27:14.945> yourself<00:27:15.298> in<00:27:15.426> their<00:27:15.523> shoes,<00:27:16.228> understand<00:27:16.805> where<00:27:16.965> they're<00:27:17.206> coming<00:27:17.590> from<00:27:18.312> and<00:27:18.408> try<00:27:18.664> to<00:27:18.809> find<00:27:19.209> common<00:27:19.674> ground.

00:27:20.107 --> 00:27:28.074
So<00:27:21.117> I<00:27:21.293> think<00:27:21.534> that's<00:27:21.838> actually<00:27:22.640> a<00:27:22.656> mentality<00:27:23.618> or<00:27:23.778> a<00:27:23.794> mind<00:27:24.163> frame<00:27:24.980> that<00:27:25.141> can<00:27:25.365> work<00:27:25.605> for<00:27:25.702> business<00:27:26.327> as<00:27:26.487> well<00:27:26.728> as<00:27:26.824> society<00:27:27.385> in<00:27:27.545> general.

00:27:28.988 --> 00:27:40.068
Because<00:27:29.292> if<00:27:29.389> you<00:27:29.469> start<00:27:29.869> with<00:27:30.511> demonizing<00:27:31.456> and<00:27:31.713> I'm<00:27:31.873> right<00:27:32.178> and<00:27:32.274> you're<00:27:32.514> wrong<00:27:32.979> and,<00:27:33.220> you<00:27:33.332> know,<00:27:33.476> what's<00:27:33.717> basically<00:27:34.182> called<00:27:34.358> a<00:27:34.374> fixed<00:27:34.839> mindset,<00:27:36.827> Stanford<00:27:37.244> psychologist<00:27:37.870> who's<00:27:38.046> done<00:27:38.223> some,<00:27:38.865> some<00:27:39.153> great<00:27:39.394> work<00:27:39.635> on<00:27:39.731> that.

00:27:40.517 --> 00:27:42.346
That's<00:27:40.774> really<00:27:41.095> not<00:27:41.416> very<00:27:41.736> constructive.

00:27:42.394 --> 00:27:47.528
And<00:27:42.539> everybody<00:27:42.940> sits<00:27:43.325> in<00:27:43.357> their<00:27:43.565> corners<00:27:44.143> and<00:27:44.223> there's<00:27:44.528> no<00:27:44.704> solutioning,<00:27:45.747> there's<00:27:46.052> no<00:27:46.373> bridging<00:27:46.870> of<00:27:47.015> the<00:27:47.111> divide.

00:27:48.009 --> 00:27:52.133
If<00:27:48.154> you<00:27:48.234> actually<00:27:48.635> start<00:27:49.277> with<00:27:49.437> empathy<00:27:50.079> and<00:27:50.239> to<00:27:50.336> say,<00:27:50.945> how<00:27:51.042> do<00:27:51.186> you<00:27:51.266> actually<00:27:51.683> understand?

00:27:52.309 --> 00:27:53.400
What<00:27:52.389> are<00:27:52.486> you<00:27:52.630> trying<00:27:52.806> to<00:27:52.887> solve<00:27:53.191> for?

00:27:53.673 --> 00:27:54.764
What<00:27:53.785> am<00:27:53.913> I<00:27:54.010> trying<00:27:54.186> to<00:27:54.266> solve<00:27:54.571> for?

00:27:55.357 --> 00:27:56.962
And<00:27:55.534> what<00:27:55.694> are<00:27:55.774> the<00:27:55.919> areas<00:27:56.256> of<00:27:56.320> common<00:27:56.721> ground?

00:27:57.138 --> 00:27:58.791
It<00:27:57.299> gives<00:27:57.619> you<00:27:57.780> a<00:27:57.860> place<00:27:58.261> to<00:27:58.406> start.

00:27:59.240 --> 00:28:01.197
So<00:27:59.689> I<00:27:59.785> think<00:27:59.946> that's<00:28:00.202> a<00:28:00.267> really<00:28:00.587> critical<00:28:01.053> thing.

00:28:01.293 --> 00:28:03.973
And<00:28:01.390> as<00:28:01.630> to<00:28:02.416> our<00:28:02.593> perspectives<00:28:03.299> on<00:28:03.395> the<00:28:03.539> world.

00:28:04.598 --> 00:28:16.936
We're<00:28:04.823> very<00:28:05.080> fortunate<00:28:05.641> in<00:28:05.786> that,<00:28:05.962> you<00:28:06.042> know,<00:28:06.139> like<00:28:06.427> June<00:28:06.700> is<00:28:06.909> Pride<00:28:07.229> Month,<00:28:07.502> so<00:28:07.871> we<00:28:08.032> actually<00:28:08.433> have<00:28:09.476> an<00:28:09.796> inclusivity<00:28:10.695> and<00:28:10.839> a<00:28:10.936> culture<00:28:11.337> committee,<00:28:12.203> and<00:28:12.299> they<00:28:12.379> actually<00:28:12.861> sponsor<00:28:13.984> things<00:28:14.465> to<00:28:14.609> just<00:28:15.107> get<00:28:15.412> familiar<00:28:16.230> and<00:28:16.374> understand.

00:28:17.112 --> 00:28:39.291
So<00:28:17.914> whatever<00:28:18.219> it<00:28:18.380> could<00:28:18.620> be,<00:28:18.861> a,<00:28:19.182> you<00:28:19.278> know,<00:28:19.904> AAPI<00:28:20.882> in<00:28:21.027> terms<00:28:21.508> of,<00:28:21.765> you<00:28:21.925> know,<00:28:22.086> Hispanic,<00:28:23.032> Asian<00:28:24.412> holidays<00:28:25.294> around<00:28:25.551> the<00:28:25.679> world,<00:28:27.139> you<00:28:27.236> know,<00:28:28.262> Pride<00:28:28.599> Month<00:28:28.919> and<00:28:29.064> whatnot,<00:28:29.769> we<00:28:29.929> really<00:28:30.362> strive<00:28:30.843> to<00:28:30.987> foster<00:28:32.029> dialogue<00:28:32.831> where<00:28:33.055> you,<00:28:33.536> you're<00:28:33.777> actually<00:28:34.257> intentionally,<00:28:35.700> uh,<00:28:36.277> you<00:28:36.357> know,<00:28:36.999> seeing<00:28:37.479> things<00:28:37.864> that<00:28:38.025> you<00:28:38.185> may<00:28:38.281> not<00:28:38.521> be<00:28:38.682> familiar<00:28:39.163> with.

00:28:39.387 --> 00:28:53.814
I<00:28:39.483> think<00:28:39.804> one<00:28:40.060> of<00:28:40.205> the<00:28:40.285> problems<00:28:41.487> today<00:28:42.112> is<00:28:42.273> everyone<00:28:42.673> retreats<00:28:43.331> into<00:28:43.635> their<00:28:43.811> comfort<00:28:44.196> zones<00:28:44.693> and<00:28:44.837> their<00:28:45.014> cocoons,<00:28:46.056> so<00:28:46.136> everybody<00:28:46.537> lives<00:28:46.777> on<00:28:46.857> their<00:28:47.017> own<00:28:47.418> echo<00:28:47.723> chamber,<00:28:48.540> and<00:28:48.620> it's<00:28:48.781> really<00:28:49.101> hard<00:28:49.502> to<00:28:49.727> actually<00:28:50.384> grow<00:28:51.009> in<00:28:51.089> any<00:28:51.265> meaningful<00:28:51.826> way<00:28:52.307> if<00:28:52.452> that's<00:28:52.708> how<00:28:52.933> you<00:28:53.349> go<00:28:53.574> forth.

00:28:53.975 --> 00:29:01.332
So<00:28:54.071> I<00:28:54.231> think<00:28:54.455> it's<00:28:55.033> healthy<00:28:55.674> to<00:28:55.818> kind<00:28:55.994> of<00:28:56.074> put<00:28:56.299> yourself<00:28:57.020> in<00:28:57.116> a<00:28:57.181> place<00:28:57.597> of<00:28:57.694> some<00:28:58.158> discomfort<00:28:59.297> to<00:28:59.505> learn<00:28:59.810> things<00:29:00.082> that<00:29:00.242> you're<00:29:00.402> not<00:29:00.563> familiar<00:29:01.107> with.

00:29:01.748 --> 00:29:04.985
Um,<00:29:02.149> and,<00:29:02.389> and<00:29:02.549> frankly,<00:29:03.447> that's<00:29:03.767> what<00:29:03.911> you<00:29:04.008> need<00:29:04.232> for<00:29:04.408> growth,<00:29:04.809> right?

00:29:05.033 --> 00:29:09.535
If<00:29:05.129> you,<00:29:05.594> if<00:29:05.674> you<00:29:05.834> only<00:29:06.171> do<00:29:06.315> what<00:29:06.475> you<00:29:06.635> always<00:29:07.052> do<00:29:07.436> and<00:29:07.517> you're<00:29:07.997> all,<00:29:08.157> you<00:29:08.189> know,<00:29:08.334> we're<00:29:08.478> all<00:29:08.638> creatures<00:29:09.119> of<00:29:09.151> habit.

00:29:09.792 --> 00:29:16.682
If<00:29:09.872> everybody<00:29:10.481> only<00:29:10.737> does<00:29:11.058> what<00:29:11.218> they<00:29:11.442> do<00:29:11.618> and<00:29:11.699> you<00:29:11.795> never<00:29:12.179> try<00:29:12.404> anything<00:29:12.804> else,<00:29:12.980> you're<00:29:13.093> not<00:29:13.237> exposed<00:29:13.862> to<00:29:13.926> anything<00:29:14.342> different,<00:29:15.304> you<00:29:15.384> actually<00:29:15.784> don't<00:29:16.009> grow<00:29:16.265> from<00:29:16.425> that.

00:29:16.762 --> 00:29:20.078
So<00:29:16.970> to<00:29:17.066> me,<00:29:17.307> growth<00:29:17.867> really<00:29:18.172> comes<00:29:18.652> from<00:29:18.813> all<00:29:18.989> of<00:29:19.069> those<00:29:19.309> kinds<00:29:19.646> of<00:29:19.774> things.

00:29:21.408 --> 00:29:32.882
I<00:29:21.456> want<00:29:21.553> to<00:29:21.601> go<00:29:21.697> a<00:29:21.713> bit<00:29:21.937> deeper<00:29:22.258> on<00:29:22.418> something<00:29:22.642> you<00:29:22.754> said<00:29:23.219> around<00:29:23.636> empathy<00:29:24.277> and<00:29:24.421> the<00:29:24.661> role<00:29:24.982> that<00:29:25.158> empathy<00:29:25.558> plays<00:29:26.039> in<00:29:26.199> leadership<00:29:26.760> and<00:29:26.840> the<00:29:26.984> importance<00:29:27.481> of<00:29:28.523> Tell<00:29:28.763> us<00:29:28.923> more<00:29:29.228> about<00:29:29.965> how<00:29:30.206> you<00:29:30.350> think<00:29:30.622> about<00:29:30.911> empathy<00:29:31.712> and<00:29:31.808> its<00:29:32.033> role<00:29:32.225> in<00:29:32.369> leadership.

00:29:33.876 --> 00:29:35.382
Oh<00:29:33.972> my<00:29:34.132> God,<00:29:34.437> it's<00:29:34.613> so<00:29:34.918> critical.

00:29:36.456 --> 00:29:57.419
You<00:29:36.616> know,<00:29:37.482> it's<00:29:37.722> a,<00:29:37.834> it's<00:29:38.043> a<00:29:38.139> true<00:29:38.315> statement<00:29:39.101> that,<00:29:40.206> you<00:29:40.238> know,<00:29:40.623> the<00:29:40.783> more<00:29:41.168> customer-centric<00:29:42.306> you<00:29:42.530> are,<00:29:43.171> chances<00:29:43.732> are<00:29:44.389> the<00:29:44.614> better<00:29:44.950> a<00:29:45.095> job,<00:29:45.912> your<00:29:46.152> products,<00:29:47.018> the<00:29:47.114> way<00:29:47.419> in<00:29:47.579> which<00:29:47.819> your<00:29:47.979> products<00:29:48.476> to<00:29:48.957> bring<00:29:49.117> your<00:29:49.278> products<00:29:49.694> to<00:29:49.823> market,<00:29:50.384> the<00:29:50.480> way<00:29:50.704> in<00:29:50.800> which<00:29:51.025> you<00:29:51.105> service<00:29:52.387> ongoing<00:29:52.948> customer<00:29:53.461> issues<00:29:54.470> will<00:29:54.727> drive<00:29:55.592> a<00:29:55.688> ton<00:29:55.993> of<00:29:56.089> value<00:29:56.570> for<00:29:56.794> your<00:29:56.971> customers.

00:29:58.076 --> 00:30:09.435
So<00:29:58.188> the<00:29:58.333> only<00:29:58.573> way<00:29:58.733> to<00:29:58.893> really<00:29:59.358> like<00:29:59.534> design<00:30:00.079> the<00:30:00.175> product<00:30:00.736> is<00:30:00.896> not<00:30:01.040> to<00:30:01.136> say,<00:30:01.440> well,<00:30:01.681> I<00:30:01.841> think<00:30:02.001> this<00:30:02.065> is<00:30:02.177> a<00:30:02.257> great<00:30:02.498> idea<00:30:03.203> and<00:30:03.299> maybe<00:30:03.619> it'll<00:30:03.843> help<00:30:04.084> you<00:30:04.260> too,<00:30:05.205> but<00:30:05.301> it's<00:30:05.397> to<00:30:05.526> actually<00:30:05.942> flip<00:30:06.439> the<00:30:06.503> script<00:30:07.064> and<00:30:07.160> say,<00:30:07.865> what's<00:30:08.089> the<00:30:08.249> problem<00:30:08.650> you're<00:30:08.826> trying<00:30:09.066> to<00:30:09.130> solve?

00:30:10.011 --> 00:30:11.133
What<00:30:10.107> does<00:30:10.284> your<00:30:10.428> day<00:30:10.732> look<00:30:10.972> like?

00:30:11.245 --> 00:30:13.760
To<00:30:11.453> really<00:30:11.709> understand<00:30:12.366> sort<00:30:12.526> of<00:30:12.655> the<00:30:12.751> customer<00:30:13.375> journey.

00:30:14.737 --> 00:30:23.020
And<00:30:14.833> for<00:30:14.977> technology,<00:30:16.179> it's<00:30:16.355> really<00:30:16.660> critical<00:30:17.252> for,<00:30:17.781> you<00:30:17.813> know,<00:30:18.037> product<00:30:18.502> market<00:30:18.822> fit<00:30:19.079> to<00:30:19.175> start<00:30:19.719> with<00:30:20.681> what<00:30:20.841> is<00:30:20.921> that<00:30:21.161> customer<00:30:21.706> challenge<00:30:22.187> you're<00:30:22.347> trying<00:30:22.475> to<00:30:22.603> solve.

00:30:23.084 --> 00:30:33.458
And<00:30:23.308> unless<00:30:23.789> you<00:30:23.949> exhibit<00:30:24.509> empathy<00:30:25.407> and<00:30:25.631> understand<00:30:26.224> exactly,<00:30:27.954> you<00:30:28.050> know,<00:30:28.370> whether<00:30:28.835> it's<00:30:29.155> in<00:30:30.279> a<00:30:30.375> warehouse,<00:30:31.178> whether<00:30:31.419> it's<00:30:31.596> a<00:30:31.660> retailer,<00:30:32.382> whether<00:30:32.687> it's<00:30:32.848> a<00:30:32.880> shopper.

00:30:33.988 --> 00:30:36.413
There's<00:30:34.149> so<00:30:34.325> many<00:30:34.550> aspects<00:30:35.112> to,<00:30:35.513> you<00:30:35.610> know,<00:30:35.818> what<00:30:36.011> we<00:30:36.236> do.

00:30:36.959 --> 00:30:45.822
Understanding<00:30:37.906> what<00:30:38.082> is<00:30:38.163> that<00:30:38.323> person's<00:30:38.805> life<00:30:39.126> like,<00:30:39.833> what's<00:30:40.170> the<00:30:40.314> challenge<00:30:40.957> they<00:30:41.117> have<00:30:41.310> to<00:30:41.438> face,<00:30:42.000> and<00:30:42.097> therefore<00:30:42.980> how<00:30:43.140> do<00:30:43.205> you<00:30:43.365> design<00:30:43.863> something<00:30:44.489> to<00:30:44.730> address<00:30:45.228> that<00:30:45.549> pain?

00:30:46.191 --> 00:30:53.288
Because<00:30:46.496> the<00:30:46.673> better<00:30:46.994> a<00:30:47.138> job<00:30:47.476> you<00:30:47.620> can<00:30:47.797> do,<00:30:48.680> the<00:30:48.760> more<00:30:49.145> valuable<00:30:50.205> your<00:30:50.366> product<00:30:50.992> and<00:30:51.329> the<00:30:51.474> more<00:30:51.650> value<00:30:51.955> you'll<00:30:52.293> create<00:30:52.758> for<00:30:52.838> the<00:30:52.935> company.

00:30:53.352 --> 00:30:56.882
So<00:30:54.043> to<00:30:54.139> me,<00:30:54.444> it<00:30:54.540> starts<00:30:54.862> starts<00:30:55.246> from<00:30:55.503> the<00:30:55.583> beginning<00:30:56.064> with<00:30:56.225> a<00:30:56.305> customer.

00:30:57.411 --> 00:31:02.976
And<00:30:57.508> then<00:30:57.732> a<00:30:57.812> lot<00:30:58.053> of<00:30:58.149> ways<00:30:58.550> that,<00:30:58.791> you<00:30:58.887> know,<00:30:59.576> I<00:30:59.737> found<00:31:00.074> that<00:31:00.298> you<00:31:00.394> scale<00:31:00.859> companies<00:31:01.276> successfully<00:31:02.014> is<00:31:02.158> through<00:31:02.319> partnerships.

00:31:03.121 --> 00:31:06.472
Well,<00:31:03.666> successful<00:31:04.323> partnerships<00:31:04.965> are<00:31:05.189> all<00:31:05.446> about<00:31:05.751> empathy,<00:31:06.232> right?

00:31:06.729 --> 00:31:16.528
Let<00:31:06.841> me<00:31:07.050> understand<00:31:07.691> what's<00:31:07.932> your<00:31:08.092> business,<00:31:08.637> what<00:31:08.734> you're<00:31:08.878> trying<00:31:09.135> to<00:31:09.279> do,<00:31:09.936> and<00:31:10.097> how<00:31:10.899> my<00:31:11.139> company<00:31:11.941> is<00:31:12.101> valuable<00:31:12.647> to<00:31:12.807> you<00:31:13.304> and<00:31:13.465> vice<00:31:13.785> versa,<00:31:14.571> so<00:31:14.828> that<00:31:14.988> overall<00:31:15.614> the<00:31:15.710> customer<00:31:16.271> wins.

00:31:16.592 --> 00:31:18.276
All<00:31:16.993> of<00:31:17.137> that<00:31:17.378> requires<00:31:17.939> empathy.

00:31:18.372 --> 00:31:20.729
So<00:31:18.821> I<00:31:18.997> think<00:31:19.222> that's<00:31:19.398> an<00:31:19.623> absolutely<00:31:20.184> essential<00:31:20.585> skill.

00:31:22.490 --> 00:31:29.859
Finally,<00:31:23.154> we<00:31:23.494> end<00:31:23.639> every<00:31:23.818> interview<00:31:24.060> the<00:31:24.125> exact<00:31:24.465> same<00:31:24.692> way,<00:31:25.032> and<00:31:25.113> that<00:31:25.340> is<00:31:25.453> at<00:31:25.534> CEO.com,<00:31:26.328> we<00:31:26.490> believe<00:31:26.733> the<00:31:26.814> chances<00:31:27.300> one<00:31:27.462> gives<00:31:27.883> is<00:31:28.012> just<00:31:28.190> as<00:31:28.271> important<00:31:28.660> as<00:31:28.757> the<00:31:28.838> chances<00:31:29.308> one<00:31:29.486> takes.

00:31:30.423 --> 00:31:34.655
And<00:31:30.569> I<00:31:30.666> wonder<00:31:30.909> when<00:31:31.153> you<00:31:31.331> hear<00:31:31.801> that,<00:31:32.353> who<00:31:32.531> gave<00:31:32.855> you<00:31:33.017> a<00:31:33.098> chance<00:31:33.504> to<00:31:33.650> get<00:31:33.812> you<00:31:33.909> to<00:31:33.990> where<00:31:34.217> you<00:31:34.396> are<00:31:34.477> today?

00:31:36.426 --> 00:31:36.539
Yeah.

00:31:36.846 --> 00:31:44.779
So<00:31:37.863> I<00:31:37.960> would<00:31:38.106> say<00:31:39.317> it<00:31:39.802> happened<00:31:40.367> a<00:31:40.561> long<00:31:40.852> time<00:31:41.126> ago<00:31:42.063> when<00:31:42.241> I<00:31:42.322> was<00:31:42.564> making<00:31:42.871> the<00:31:42.903> switch<00:31:43.436> from<00:31:43.695> telecom<00:31:44.260> to<00:31:44.390> software.

00:31:45.381 --> 00:31:47.135
I'd<00:31:45.559> never<00:31:45.868> worked<00:31:46.144> in<00:31:46.225> software<00:31:46.778> before.

00:31:47.899 --> 00:31:53.356
And<00:31:47.996> I<00:31:48.159> think<00:31:48.337> it's<00:31:48.484> true<00:31:48.971> that<00:31:49.280> ultimately<00:31:50.246> When<00:31:50.406> you<00:31:50.567> hire<00:31:50.903> somebody,<00:31:51.464> you're<00:31:51.689> placing<00:31:52.105> a<00:31:52.266> bet<00:31:52.586> on<00:31:52.667> that<00:31:52.907> person.

00:31:53.644 --> 00:32:03.566
So<00:31:54.013> I<00:31:54.173> was<00:31:54.350> given<00:31:54.606> the<00:31:54.750> chance<00:31:55.311> to<00:31:55.536> actually<00:31:56.033> walk<00:31:56.417> into<00:31:56.770> a<00:31:56.866> new<00:31:57.074> industry,<00:31:58.100> um,<00:31:58.822> into,<00:31:59.703> uh,<00:32:00.136> storage<00:32:00.697> and<00:32:00.905> content<00:32:01.306> management<00:32:01.643> software,<00:32:02.204> which<00:32:02.428> I<00:32:02.444> knew<00:32:02.685> nothing<00:32:03.069> about.

00:32:04.031 --> 00:32:10.972
And<00:32:04.608> that's<00:32:04.929> because<00:32:05.249> someone<00:32:05.570> saw<00:32:05.826> in<00:32:06.035> me<00:32:06.692> some<00:32:07.157> attributes<00:32:07.734> and<00:32:07.830> skills<00:32:08.375> that<00:32:08.535> they<00:32:08.615> said,<00:32:09.401> I<00:32:09.497> think<00:32:09.673> she<00:32:09.882> can<00:32:10.058> get<00:32:10.282> there<00:32:10.459> from<00:32:10.699> here.

00:32:11.324 --> 00:32:12.430
I<00:32:11.485> think<00:32:11.645> she<00:32:11.885> can<00:32:12.062> learn.

00:32:12.847 --> 00:32:17.415
And<00:32:12.943> ultimately,<00:32:14.290> um,<00:32:14.931> you<00:32:15.043> know,<00:32:15.508> mechanical<00:32:16.117> skills<00:32:16.630> are<00:32:16.854> easy<00:32:17.175> to<00:32:17.335> get.

00:32:17.480 --> 00:32:17.592
That.

00:32:17.896 --> 00:32:31.297
But<00:32:18.073> having<00:32:18.554> that<00:32:18.858> kind<00:32:19.499> of<00:32:19.900> confidence<00:32:20.942> and<00:32:21.182> taking<00:32:21.535> a<00:32:21.663> chance<00:32:22.064> on<00:32:22.144> a<00:32:22.240> person,<00:32:22.705> on<00:32:22.801> their<00:32:23.026> character,<00:32:24.100> is<00:32:24.244> ultimately<00:32:25.190> not<00:32:25.366> only<00:32:25.607> what'll<00:32:25.911> pay<00:32:26.152> off<00:32:26.328> for<00:32:26.488> you<00:32:26.793> but<00:32:26.969> what'll<00:32:27.290> be<00:32:27.450> hugely<00:32:28.011> valuable<00:32:29.117> as<00:32:29.278> you<00:32:29.310> see<00:32:29.534> that<00:32:29.774> person<00:32:30.175> go,<00:32:30.720> go<00:32:30.832> forth.

00:32:32.339 --> 00:32:33.622
Uh,<00:32:32.660> thank<00:32:32.884> you<00:32:32.964> so<00:32:33.141> much,<00:32:33.381> Amina.

00:32:33.798 --> 00:32:35.032
I<00:32:33.926> really<00:32:34.119> appreciate<00:32:34.567> you<00:32:34.664> coming<00:32:34.888> on.

00:32:36.026 --> 00:32:37.180
Thank<00:32:36.267> you<00:32:36.331> so<00:32:36.587> much<00:32:36.748> for<00:32:36.828> your<00:32:36.988> time.

00:32:37.244 --> 00:32:38.607
I've<00:32:37.453> really<00:32:37.629> enjoyed<00:32:37.886> our<00:32:38.014> conversation.

```
