# The accidental venture capitalist

In 2025, Abby Miller Levy closed the second fund at Primetime Partners at $55 million and returned the money to her investors. Healthcare had trailed the S&P 500 by double digits. Medicare and Medicaid cuts were on the table. The biggest venture returns were going to AI infrastructure deals a small thematic fund could not get into. She did not think a 2025 to 2027 vintage in age tech could beat the market, and she said so. "I don't want to change my theme," she [told AgeTechX](https://agetechx.com/blog/investor-spotlight-abby-miller-levy?ref=ceo.com) in July. The firm still invests, through personal capital and special purpose vehicles. The fund is gone.

Venture capitalists do not usually do this. Levy is not a usual venture capitalist. By her own account, she is barely a venture capitalist at all.

"I'm an accidental venture capitalist who had a business idea and paired up with a very experienced venture capitalist," she told the CEO.com Podcast.

The experienced one is Alan Patricof, founder of Apax Partners and co-founder of Greycroft. They launched [Primetime in July 2020](https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200729005715/en/Venture-Capital-Pioneer-Alan-Patricof-and-Wellness-Executive-Abby-Miller-Levy-Launch-Primetime-Partners?ref=ceo.com) to invest in seed and early-stage companies serving older adults. He was 85\. She was 45\. The first fund put [$50 million into 36 companies](https://www.hbs.edu/faculty/Pages/item.aspx?num=67203&ref=ceo.com) and was showing a 15 percent IRR by the fall of 2024, a moment Harvard Business School later turned into a case study on what she should do next. A [Form D she signed in July 2024](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/2025221/000202522124000001/xslFormDX01/primary%5Fdoc.xml?ref=ceo.com) showed Fund II had raised just over $42 million of a planned $60 million from 46 investors.

She got to $55 million. Then she made the call.

To understand why, it helps to know how she got there.

Levy grew up outside New York City, the youngest of three girls. Her father ran a small business. She joined McKinsey at 21, and six months in, her manager Vik Malhotra pulled her into his office.

"He said, 'Listen, I think you're great. I think you're smart, but you've got one thing you got to fight.' And I was like, oh gosh, what is this thing? He looked at me, and he said, 'You have no poker face. If you think someone's a moron, it's written across your forehead. So you got to figure out your poker face.'"

She is still bad at actual poker. She does not like losing money. But she took the point. "We have an innate style, and mine is one of transparency and intimacy, but it doesn't mean you can't evolve it," she said. "I can still be my authentic self but have a bit thicker of a filter, which is what Vik was telling me."

After Harvard Business School came 20 years of operating jobs at companies that were small and trying not to be. She [ran product at OXO](https://www.primetimepartners.com/team?ref=ceo.com), the kitchen tools company. She ran digital and business development at SoulCycle. She co-founded Thrive Global with Arianna Huffington and served as its first president.

People remember SoulCycle for the lighting and the playlists. Levy remembers the reports.

"You're looking at a daily report of the sales from the day before. I mean, you have to be data-driven; you have to understand everything that's going on, all of those metrics. And I think sometimes we forget that in a lot of businesses, at the end of the day, performance is based on knowing your numbers."

From Huffington, she took three habits. Be direct. Be generous with introductions and time. And say the same thing the same way until people hear it. Huffington described Thrive in the same four sentences for years. "At Primetime, we've just really stuck to the script," Levy said.

The script starts with her father. He was pushed into retirement in his sixties, and Levy started paying attention to what happens to people after that. "It's no longer this kind of rosy perfect retire, hold hands on the sunset and walk off," she said, "because it's really expensive and most people can't afford their retirement."

She whiteboarded the problem the way McKinsey trained her to. Every product and service an aging country would need. Then someone, she cannot remember who, asked why she would build one node on that map when she could fund dozens of founders to build all of them. She called her friend John Patricof to say she was starting a venture fund about aging. He told her that was exactly what his father wanted to do.

The numbers she uses have not changed since. By 2060, there will be more Americans over 65 than under 18\. Over the past century, lifespan has grown by about 50 years and healthspan, the years spent healthy and independent, by about 25\. The difference is years spent sick. Medicare costs about a trillion dollars a year and grows more than 8 percent annually.

"Normally, if it was a business with a trillion dollars in revenue growing 8.4 percent a year, you'd say, that's amazing. Not when it's coming out of the federal budget."

Primetime invests across health tech, fintech, consumer, and property technology. The only rule is that the company disproportionately serves people over 50\. The team originally pictured a customer in her seventies or eighties. They lowered the age when they realized almost nobody was building for midlife either.

In four years, the five-person team met about 2,000 companies. The founders who got funded had one thing in common.

"It's personal for them. It's a loved one; it's their mom who was a caregiver. They suffered from a disease when they were younger; they were on Medicaid and saw the challenges of our healthcare system. They're all fixers that want to fix some of these big problems."

Some of the fixes are dull on purpose. Safe Ride Health runs the logistics behind medical transportation for older adults who cannot drive to the doctor. Levy said it has more than $100 million in annual recurring revenue. Penelope sells 401(k) plans to small businesses that are now required to offer them. "There are basic businesses of blocking and tackling how we handle an aging population that can and should be enabled by technology," she said.

The other half of the portfolio is where she admits to geeking out: diagnostics. Most of healthspan is behavior, and changing behavior requires knowing what is happening inside your own body. The question is how to take the blood panels and genomic testing that a rich man in California buys for himself and make them useful to everyone else.

She does not use AI to screen deals. The category is too new. "I've always taken the mentality of take the call, take the meeting," she said. Inside the portfolio, it is everywhere. Isaac Health uses health plan records to find members who should be screened for dementia. Other companies turn a patient's 10 medications into a daily schedule. And there is an office joke about founders who expect a higher valuation for putting AI on the slide. "It's table stakes."

One detail says more about how she runs the firm than any of that. A five-person fund keeps a PR firm on retainer. "It's probably why I'm talking to you," she said. Her reasoning is that nobody is paying enough attention to aging, and somebody has to be loud about it. "We believe really strongly that we need a megaphone."

Her days are not exotic. She wakes around five without an alarm, tries not to look at her phone, and stays off social media until later. She exercises early and is home by seven for her three teenagers. On the way to the office she calls or texts a friend, because otherwise she feels disconnected. She reads books on vacation, usually something light recommended by her friend Zibby Owens, and gets the news from Alexa in the shower. Her feed is comedians. Nate Bargatze. Mom comedians. "If I have a little bit of downtime, it's like comedy all the way."

She calls herself an optimist and says one of her colleagues on the team is the opposite, which makes them good investors together. But her advice to founders is cautious. Get to profitability sooner than you planned. Do not depend on one customer or one channel. "You just got to get to the other side of the cycle," she said, a lesson she credits to Patricof, who has been investing through them for 50 years.

On DEI, she supports the intent and criticizes the institution. "We've basically ended up with a DEI where it's really diversity and exclusion, not diversity and inclusion," she said. Older adults are not part of it at all. Half of Primetime's founders are women and 40 percent are people of color, and she thinks the responsibility for bias, including ageism, belongs to individuals. On ESG, she thinks the opposite. "The way a capitalist economy works is because you have no choice but to do it, because ESG is expensive." It will not happen without regulation, she said, and then noted that anyone could guess her politics from that sentence alone.

Every conversation on the CEO.com Podcast ends the same way: who gave you a chance?

Levy went back to her McKinsey interview at 20\. It was a case question, and it was going badly. Her math did not add up. She was flailing. The interviewer was Zubin Taraporevala.

"About six minutes in, I knew I was messing it up," she said. "He looked at me and said, 'All right, we're going to forget the past 10 minutes happened.' Which to me felt like three hours of pain and sweating. He's like, 'We're going to start again.'"

She has had setbacks since. She has had other chances. That one stuck.

"Being able to recognize that you make a mistake, you pick yourself up, and you keep going, that's something that a founder needs to have and to know. And thank you, Zubin, for picking me back up and letting me start again."

Let's<00:00:15.690> start<00:00:16.029> with<00:00:16.657> who<00:00:16.980> you<00:00:17.222> are,<00:00:17.721> how<00:00:17.963> you<00:00:18.608> came<00:00:18.930> to<00:00:19.140> found<00:00:19.560> Primetime<00:00:20.143> Partners,<00:00:20.790> and<00:00:20.935> how<00:00:21.097> you<00:00:21.194> got<00:00:21.437> to<00:00:21.582> where<00:00:21.679> you<00:00:21.841> are<00:00:21.938> today.

00:00:22.408 --> 00:00:23.605
Maybe<00:00:22.585> that's<00:00:22.812> a<00:00:22.877> good<00:00:22.958> place<00:00:23.297> to<00:00:23.330> start.

00:00:24.333 --> 00:00:26.242
It's<00:00:24.915> always<00:00:25.158> a<00:00:25.223> good<00:00:25.320> place<00:00:25.562> to<00:00:25.708> start,<00:00:26.048> Clint.

00:00:26.290 --> 00:00:27.115
Thank<00:00:26.517> you<00:00:26.598> for<00:00:26.695> having<00:00:27.018> me.

00:00:28.324 --> 00:00:35.419
I<00:00:28.758> wish<00:00:28.993> I<00:00:29.076> had<00:00:29.260> something<00:00:29.595> witty<00:00:29.762> and<00:00:32.036> and<00:00:32.613> novel<00:00:32.998> to<00:00:33.094> say<00:00:33.334> about<00:00:33.559> how<00:00:33.735> I<00:00:33.896> got<00:00:34.072> where<00:00:34.761> I<00:00:34.938> am<00:00:35.082> today.

00:00:35.563 --> 00:00:41.960
But<00:00:35.739> as<00:00:35.916> a<00:00:36.044> 49-year-old<00:00:36.765> woman<00:00:37.038> sitting<00:00:37.407> across<00:00:37.743> from<00:00:37.904> you<00:00:38.064> on,<00:00:38.529> on<00:00:38.689> the<00:00:39.170> video,<00:00:40.132> I<00:00:40.212> can<00:00:40.325> say,<00:00:40.485> like<00:00:40.693> most<00:00:40.870> people,<00:00:41.190> it's<00:00:41.351> a<00:00:41.431> long<00:00:41.655> story.

00:00:42.794 --> 00:00:46.449
But<00:00:43.451> where<00:00:43.579> I<00:00:43.755> am<00:00:43.900> today<00:00:44.156> is<00:00:44.317> I<00:00:44.557> run<00:00:44.942> a<00:00:45.038> venture<00:00:45.343> fund<00:00:45.583> called<00:00:45.679> Primetime<00:00:46.144> Partners.

00:00:47.507 --> 00:00:52.220
We<00:00:47.828> are<00:00:47.908> a<00:00:47.924> venture<00:00:48.244> fund<00:00:48.645> that<00:00:48.806> is<00:00:49.046> focused<00:00:49.752> on<00:00:50.569> the<00:00:50.729> topic<00:00:51.066> of<00:00:51.275> aging<00:00:51.611> and<00:00:51.691> longevity.

00:00:52.878 --> 00:01:03.283
How<00:00:53.134> I<00:00:53.455> got<00:00:53.695> to<00:00:53.840> this<00:00:54.016> place<00:00:54.337> was<00:00:54.497> not<00:00:54.722> that<00:00:54.834> I<00:00:54.898> was<00:00:55.138> born<00:00:55.459> with<00:00:55.764> a<00:00:55.860> fascination<00:00:56.645> with<00:00:56.886> older<00:00:57.126> adults<00:00:57.687> or<00:00:58.088> ageism,<00:00:59.371> but<00:00:59.467> that<00:00:59.692> I<00:00:59.852> actually<00:01:00.189> kind<00:01:00.349> of<00:01:00.493> grew<00:01:00.974> into<00:01:01.391> this<00:01:01.680> through<00:01:01.792> a<00:01:01.872> series<00:01:02.353> of<00:01:02.433> experiences.

00:01:04.196 --> 00:01:09.422
And<00:01:04.276> the<00:01:04.357> series<00:01:04.693> of<00:01:04.773> experiences<00:01:06.040> includes<00:01:06.601> being<00:01:06.761> the<00:01:06.841> youngest<00:01:07.162> in<00:01:07.194> my<00:01:07.322> generation<00:01:07.803> and<00:01:07.963> very<00:01:08.188> close<00:01:08.524> to<00:01:08.605> my<00:01:08.765> grandparents.

00:01:09.871 --> 00:01:12.901
I<00:01:10.047> grew<00:01:10.192> up<00:01:10.352> outside<00:01:10.704> New<00:01:10.833> York<00:01:10.993> City<00:01:11.554> as<00:01:11.714> the<00:01:11.811> youngest<00:01:12.147> of<00:01:12.275> 3<00:01:12.516> girls.

00:01:13.253 --> 00:01:16.059
My<00:01:13.478> dad<00:01:13.654> was<00:01:13.814> a<00:01:13.878> small<00:01:14.135> business<00:01:15.722> owner.

00:01:16.459 --> 00:01:21.749
And<00:01:16.539> so,<00:01:16.684> I<00:01:16.700> kind<00:01:16.860> of<00:01:16.940> grew<00:01:17.165> up<00:01:17.325> with<00:01:17.485> business<00:01:18.126> in<00:01:18.207> and<00:01:18.287> around<00:01:19.729> the<00:01:20.291> kitchen<00:01:20.547> table,<00:01:21.188> as<00:01:21.348> I<00:01:21.429> would<00:01:21.573> say.

00:01:21.845 --> 00:01:25.500
So,<00:01:22.150> when<00:01:22.310> I<00:01:22.871> graduated<00:01:23.272> college,<00:01:23.897> I<00:01:24.378> wanted<00:01:24.635> to<00:01:24.731> be<00:01:24.955> in<00:01:25.116> business.

00:01:26.302 --> 00:02:02.026
And<00:01:26.478> so,<00:01:26.799> I<00:01:26.959> joined<00:01:27.183> McKinsey<00:01:27.664> Company,<00:01:28.081> the<00:01:28.241> consulting<00:01:28.642> firm,<00:01:29.444> as<00:01:29.604> kind<00:01:29.828> of<00:01:30.069> a<00:01:30.406> great<00:01:30.710> launching<00:01:31.287> experience<00:01:32.009> to<00:01:32.153> get<00:01:32.313> started<00:01:32.954> in<00:01:33.115> the,<00:01:33.709> in<00:01:33.774> the<00:01:33.854> profession,<00:01:34.889> went<00:01:35.051> and<00:01:35.148> got<00:01:35.455> a<00:01:35.875> business<00:01:36.134> degree<00:01:36.441> at<00:01:36.506> Harvard<00:01:36.684> Business<00:01:37.039> School,<00:01:37.573> and<00:01:37.654> then<00:01:37.816> spent<00:01:38.301> the<00:01:38.381> next<00:01:38.705> 20<00:01:38.947> years<00:01:39.740> working<00:01:40.063> in<00:01:40.144> a<00:01:40.225> variety<00:01:40.580> of<00:01:40.790> operating<00:01:41.195> roles,<00:01:41.631> always<00:01:41.938> in<00:01:42.035> small<00:01:42.343> businesses,<00:01:42.908> always<00:01:43.151> in<00:01:43.200> growth<00:01:43.462> roles,<00:01:43.806> including<00:01:44.297> running<00:01:44.608> product<00:01:45.034> at<00:01:45.100> a<00:01:45.181> company<00:01:45.509> called<00:01:45.837> OXO,<00:01:46.262> which<00:01:46.426> makes<00:01:46.672> kitchen<00:01:46.983> tools<00:01:47.245> and<00:01:47.327> gadgets,<00:01:49.963> running<00:01:51.367> digital<00:01:51.899> at<00:01:51.996> SoulCycle,<00:01:52.642> another<00:01:52.949> great<00:01:53.126> brand,<00:01:54.272> starting<00:01:54.676> a<00:01:54.740> business<00:01:55.370> as<00:01:55.466> a<00:01:55.547> co-founder<00:01:56.048> with<00:01:56.257> Arianna<00:01:56.580> Huffington<00:01:57.145> called<00:01:57.339> Thrive<00:01:57.710> Global<00:01:58.065> in<00:01:58.194> the<00:01:58.340> employee<00:01:58.614> wellness<00:01:58.970> space,<00:01:59.892> and<00:01:59.989> a<00:02:00.005> lot<00:02:00.231> of<00:02:00.312> other<00:02:01.105> experiences<00:02:01.671> in<00:02:01.768> between.

00:02:02.618 --> 00:02:21.515
So<00:02:03.389> it<00:02:03.469> gave<00:02:03.710> me<00:02:03.806> a<00:02:03.967> lot<00:02:04.513> of<00:02:05.974> data<00:02:06.279> points,<00:02:06.552> if<00:02:06.680> you<00:02:06.776> will,<00:02:07.563> always<00:02:08.205> kind<00:02:08.382> of<00:02:08.462> in<00:02:08.623> this<00:02:08.944> growth,<00:02:09.409> new<00:02:09.586> business<00:02:10.068> role<00:02:10.790> that<00:02:10.935> when<00:02:11.047> I<00:02:11.111> saw<00:02:11.352> an<00:02:11.513> opportunity,<00:02:12.219> a<00:02:12.315> white<00:02:12.476> space<00:02:12.974> around<00:02:13.439> the<00:02:13.584> topic<00:02:13.921> of<00:02:14.065> aging,<00:02:14.884> I<00:02:14.981> knew<00:02:15.221> as<00:02:15.366> an<00:02:15.446> entrepreneur<00:02:16.249> and<00:02:16.490> as<00:02:16.875> a<00:02:18.175> person<00:02:18.464> who<00:02:18.577> likes<00:02:18.818> to<00:02:18.898> build<00:02:19.685> that<00:02:19.797> there<00:02:19.925> was<00:02:19.974> something<00:02:20.263> to<00:02:20.407> build<00:02:20.584> in<00:02:20.728> the<00:02:20.760> space<00:02:21.146> of<00:02:21.226> aging.

00:02:22.093 --> 00:02:26.669
And<00:02:22.173> that's<00:02:22.414> why<00:02:22.494> I<00:02:22.735> built<00:02:22.992> a<00:02:23.072> venture<00:02:23.313> firm<00:02:23.955> that<00:02:24.100> I<00:02:24.196> launched<00:02:24.662> in<00:02:24.822> 2020<00:02:25.384> with<00:02:25.545> my<00:02:25.641> partner,<00:02:26.107> Alan<00:02:26.203> Patricoff.

00:02:27.744 --> 00:02:30.779
So<00:02:27.889> can<00:02:28.033> I<00:02:28.113> just<00:02:28.210> say<00:02:28.595> you<00:02:28.996> have<00:02:29.237> already<00:02:29.494> had<00:02:29.719> a<00:02:29.799> Hall<00:02:29.992> of<00:02:30.136> Fame<00:02:30.377> career?

00:02:31.084 --> 00:02:31.517
My<00:02:31.244> word.

00:02:31.983 --> 00:02:38.258
Like<00:02:32.239> it's<00:02:32.448> incredible<00:02:33.491> what<00:02:33.732> you've<00:02:33.973> done,<00:02:35.513> who<00:02:35.738> you've<00:02:35.979> worked<00:02:36.235> with,<00:02:36.701> and<00:02:36.781> the<00:02:36.877> various<00:02:37.343> companies<00:02:37.744> that<00:02:37.840> you've<00:02:37.985> worked<00:02:38.161> with.

00:02:38.322 --> 00:02:44.645
I<00:02:38.386> want<00:02:38.546> to<00:02:38.643> ask<00:02:39.349> a<00:02:39.429> couple<00:02:39.654> of<00:02:39.686> questions<00:02:40.087> on<00:02:40.232> the<00:02:40.328> background<00:02:40.665> and<00:02:40.729> then<00:02:40.874> we'll<00:02:40.970> get<00:02:41.211> to<00:02:41.355> like<00:02:42.238> the<00:02:42.334> longevity<00:02:44.196> stuff.

00:02:45.784 --> 00:02:46.924
Tell<00:02:45.929> me<00:02:46.089> about<00:02:46.346> McKinsey.

00:02:47.068 --> 00:02:57.901
It's<00:02:47.165> such<00:02:47.325> a—<00:02:47.951> anytime<00:02:48.288> I<00:02:48.416> have<00:02:48.593> anybody<00:02:48.994> on<00:02:49.219> this<00:02:49.395> show<00:02:50.583> who<00:02:50.824> worked<00:02:51.080> at<00:02:51.161> McKinsey<00:02:51.642> or<00:02:51.722> is<00:02:51.947> at<00:02:52.043> McKinsey,<00:02:52.445> I've<00:02:52.605> got<00:02:52.798> to<00:02:52.990> ask<00:02:53.231> this<00:02:53.472> question,<00:02:54.049> which<00:02:54.354> is,<00:02:55.237> what<00:02:55.349> is<00:02:55.494> it<00:02:55.654> like<00:02:56.039> there<00:02:56.617> and<00:02:56.778> what<00:02:56.890> did<00:02:57.018> you<00:02:57.323> learn<00:02:57.644> there?

00:02:58.912 --> 00:03:06.040
Unfortunately,<00:02:59.314> McKinsey's<00:02:59.861> come<00:03:00.038> upon<00:03:01.164> a<00:03:01.245> bit<00:03:01.422> of<00:03:01.647> negative<00:03:02.114> PR<00:03:02.436> recently,<00:03:03.659> which<00:03:04.865> there's<00:03:05.107> a<00:03:05.187> whole<00:03:05.428> book<00:03:05.605> about<00:03:05.911> it.

00:03:06.297 --> 00:03:13.264
And<00:03:06.700> I<00:03:06.780> have<00:03:07.054> to<00:03:07.134> say<00:03:08.169> that<00:03:08.967> I<00:03:09.146> think<00:03:09.374> it<00:03:09.471> is<00:03:09.699> one<00:03:10.188> of<00:03:10.432> the<00:03:10.774> most<00:03:11.099> amazing<00:03:11.832> business<00:03:12.157> institutions<00:03:12.890> in<00:03:12.955> the<00:03:13.053> world.

00:03:14.550 --> 00:03:17.699
And<00:03:14.598> so<00:03:14.827> when<00:03:15.055> I<00:03:15.153> joined<00:03:15.398> McKinsey<00:03:16.051> at<00:03:16.133> age<00:03:16.459> 21,<00:03:17.438> right?

00:03:17.765 --> 00:03:24.217
So<00:03:18.009> very<00:03:18.254> young,<00:03:20.750> that<00:03:20.847> what<00:03:21.090> McKinsey,<00:03:21.479> working<00:03:21.722> at<00:03:21.754> McKinsey<00:03:22.289> is<00:03:22.451> like,<00:03:22.775> is<00:03:22.937> it's<00:03:23.116> the<00:03:23.278> best<00:03:23.521> business<00:03:23.926> training.

00:03:24.642 --> 00:03:38.850
You've<00:03:24.802> got<00:03:25.268> a<00:03:25.348> group<00:03:26.070> of<00:03:27.130> dedicated<00:03:27.692> consultants<00:03:28.655> who've<00:03:28.832> spent<00:03:29.121> their<00:03:29.297> careers<00:03:31.288> learning,<00:03:32.107> connecting<00:03:32.508> the<00:03:32.669> dots,<00:03:33.231> and<00:03:33.375> helping<00:03:34.676> companies<00:03:36.586> grow,<00:03:37.084> figure<00:03:37.389> out<00:03:37.485> their<00:03:37.646> problems,<00:03:38.288> et<00:03:38.384> cetera.

00:03:38.930 --> 00:03:44.485
So<00:03:39.653> I<00:03:39.813> think<00:03:39.974> it<00:03:40.070> is<00:03:40.215> actually<00:03:40.520> a<00:03:40.680> wonderful<00:03:41.001> place<00:03:41.740> to<00:03:41.981> build<00:03:42.157> a<00:03:42.286> career<00:03:42.462> and<00:03:42.542> to<00:03:42.623> start<00:03:42.847> your<00:03:43.008> career<00:03:43.345> because<00:03:43.730> you<00:03:43.891> learn<00:03:44.084> so<00:03:44.308> much.

00:03:44.613 --> 00:04:00.965
Specifically<00:03:45.175> what<00:03:45.336> I<00:03:45.432> learned,<00:03:46.299> I<00:03:46.396> learned<00:03:46.941> how<00:03:47.279> to<00:03:48.868> access<00:03:49.205> information,<00:03:50.152> how<00:03:50.409> to,<00:03:51.517> analyze<00:03:52.078> it,<00:03:52.399> how<00:03:52.575> to<00:03:53.201> draw<00:03:53.377> conclusions,<00:03:54.260> how<00:03:54.420> to<00:03:54.564> present,<00:03:55.062> how<00:03:55.222> to<00:03:55.382> work<00:03:55.639> in<00:03:56.890> a<00:03:56.986> bunch<00:03:57.227> of<00:03:57.869> different<00:03:58.174> industries,<00:03:59.152> a<00:03:59.296> lot<00:03:59.473> of<00:03:59.553> different<00:03:59.874> executive<00:04:00.419> situations.

00:04:01.093 --> 00:04:11.375
And<00:04:01.173> in<00:04:01.301> fact,<00:04:01.558> I'll<00:04:01.638> pass<00:04:02.023> along<00:04:03.066> one<00:04:03.242> of<00:04:03.274> the<00:04:03.403> best<00:04:03.643> pieces<00:04:03.884> of<00:04:03.964> advice<00:04:04.429> I<00:04:04.526> got<00:04:05.087> very<00:04:05.408> young<00:04:05.825> from<00:04:06.435> my<00:04:06.531> manager<00:04:06.868> at<00:04:07.012> the<00:04:07.108> time,<00:04:07.429> someone<00:04:07.686> named<00:04:07.846> Vik<00:04:07.974> Malhotra,<00:04:08.600> who<00:04:08.696> was<00:04:09.322> literally<00:04:09.755> like<00:04:10.365> just,<00:04:10.541> he<00:04:10.621> ran<00:04:10.782> the<00:04:10.862> New<00:04:10.926> York<00:04:11.167> office.

He<00:04:11.487> was<00:04:11.584> amazing.

00:04:12.851 --> 00:04:17.487
You<00:04:12.883> know,<00:04:13.043> he<00:04:13.172> pulled<00:04:13.332> me<00:04:13.428> into<00:04:13.573> his<00:04:14.214> office<00:04:14.615> after<00:04:14.968> 6<00:04:15.273> months<00:04:15.433> of<00:04:15.498> working<00:04:15.738> with<00:04:15.915> me<00:04:16.139> and<00:04:16.219> he<00:04:16.316> said,<00:04:16.540> you<00:04:16.636> know,<00:04:16.717> listen,<00:04:16.941> I<00:04:17.038> think<00:04:17.198> you're<00:04:17.278> great.

00:04:17.535 --> 00:04:29.514
I<00:04:17.599> think<00:04:17.759> you're<00:04:17.840> smart,<00:04:18.610> 'But<00:04:18.706> you've<00:04:18.866> got<00:04:19.187> one<00:04:19.363> thing<00:04:19.508> you<00:04:19.588> gotta<00:04:19.764> fight.'<00:04:20.470> And<00:04:20.566> I<00:04:20.710> was<00:04:20.871> like,<00:04:21.207> 'Oh<00:04:21.271> gosh,<00:04:21.849> like<00:04:22.153> what<00:04:22.554> is<00:04:22.651> this<00:04:22.811> thing?'<00:04:23.196> He's<00:04:23.372> looked<00:04:23.549> at<00:04:23.613> me,<00:04:23.709> he<00:04:23.853> goes,<00:04:24.479> 'You<00:04:24.591> have<00:04:24.815> no<00:04:25.136> poker<00:04:25.457> face.'<00:04:26.323> He<00:04:26.355> says,<00:04:26.644> 'If<00:04:26.724> you<00:04:26.820> think<00:04:27.125> someone's<00:04:27.477> a<00:04:27.542> moron,<00:04:28.103> it's<00:04:28.263> like<00:04:28.504> written<00:04:28.680> across<00:04:29.049> your<00:04:29.145> forehead.

00:04:29.947 --> 00:04:41.637
So<00:04:30.348> like<00:04:30.588> you<00:04:30.669> gotta<00:04:30.989> figure<00:04:31.150> out<00:04:31.230> your<00:04:31.390> poker<00:04:31.695> face.'<00:04:32.577> And<00:04:32.673> just<00:04:32.833> think<00:04:33.074> about<00:04:33.539> like<00:04:33.780> what<00:04:33.860> kind<00:04:34.036> of<00:04:34.116> work<00:04:34.357> environment<00:04:34.854> at<00:04:34.982> age<00:04:35.159> 21,<00:04:35.479> 22,<00:04:36.121> are<00:04:36.185> you<00:04:36.265> having<00:04:36.538> a<00:04:36.586> manager<00:04:37.147> who<00:04:37.243> cares<00:04:37.628> enough<00:04:37.901> about<00:04:38.190> you<00:04:38.366> and<00:04:38.430> your<00:04:38.590> career<00:04:39.472> to<00:04:39.569> really<00:04:39.809> give<00:04:39.986> you<00:04:40.114> that<00:04:40.210> kind<00:04:40.386> of<00:04:40.515> interpersonal<00:04:41.012> feedback?

00:04:41.958 --> 00:04:47.068
And<00:04:42.054> I<00:04:42.118> use<00:04:42.231> that<00:04:42.375> as<00:04:42.599> one<00:04:42.792> of<00:04:43.000> many<00:04:43.401> data<00:04:43.642> points<00:04:44.059> because<00:04:44.620> for<00:04:44.764> me<00:04:44.941> it<00:04:45.021> was<00:04:45.370> very<00:04:46.291> foundational.

00:04:48.378 --> 00:04:50.028
And<00:04:48.653> so,<00:04:49.203> I<00:04:49.267> had<00:04:49.381> a<00:04:49.445> great<00:04:49.623> experience.

00:04:50.092 --> 00:04:53.440
I<00:04:50.108> went<00:04:50.254> back<00:04:50.480> to<00:04:50.561> the<00:04:50.642> firm<00:04:50.901> at<00:04:50.982> a<00:04:50.998> later<00:04:51.224> stage<00:04:52.033> to<00:04:52.260> co-run<00:04:52.518> the<00:04:52.599> innovation<00:04:53.020> practice.

00:04:54.055 --> 00:04:56.489
And<00:04:54.136> I<00:04:54.200> have<00:04:54.298> the<00:04:54.459> utmost<00:04:54.670> respect<00:04:55.764> for<00:04:55.974> the<00:04:56.070> people<00:04:56.312> there.

00:04:57.342 --> 00:05:04.104
And<00:04:57.761> I<00:04:57.922> think<00:04:58.099> it's<00:04:58.260> a<00:04:58.388> challenge<00:04:58.968> like<00:04:59.209> any<00:04:59.435> business<00:05:01.866> to<00:05:02.735> grow<00:05:03.154> as<00:05:03.315> fast<00:05:03.621> as<00:05:03.717> they've<00:05:03.878> grown.

00:05:04.216 --> 00:05:10.289
And<00:05:04.345> there<00:05:04.410> have<00:05:04.522> been<00:05:04.683> some,<00:05:05.553> you<00:05:05.650> know,<00:05:07.164> I<00:05:07.245> guess,<00:05:07.357> casualties<00:05:07.808> along<00:05:07.986> the<00:05:08.066> way,<00:05:08.469> but<00:05:08.614> I<00:05:08.710> think<00:05:08.871> the<00:05:08.936> fundamental<00:05:09.419> business<00:05:09.677> model<00:05:09.886> is<00:05:09.983> amazing.

00:05:11.674 --> 00:05:12.900
So<00:05:11.968> how<00:05:12.148> are<00:05:12.295> you<00:05:12.393> at<00:05:12.475> poker<00:05:12.802> now?

00:05:14.720 --> 00:05:26.769
Well,<00:05:15.706> uh,<00:05:16.369> still<00:05:16.677> pretty<00:05:16.919> poor,<00:05:17.566> uh,<00:05:17.809> at<00:05:17.890> the<00:05:18.052> actual<00:05:18.456> poker<00:05:18.796> part<00:05:18.974> of<00:05:19.038> poker,<00:05:19.993> um,<00:05:20.413> because<00:05:20.882> I,<00:05:21.529> I,<00:05:21.772> uh,<00:05:22.532> I,<00:05:22.759> I<00:05:23.325> don't<00:05:23.551> like<00:05:23.713> to<00:05:23.875> lose<00:05:23.972> money,<00:05:24.602> uh,<00:05:24.926> and<00:05:25.023> as<00:05:25.168> you<00:05:25.265> know,<00:05:25.362> with<00:05:25.492> poker<00:05:26.058> you<00:05:26.219> win<00:05:26.381> and<00:05:26.478> you<00:05:26.559> lose.

00:05:27.351 --> 00:05:45.210
Um,<00:05:27.852> but<00:05:28.079> in<00:05:28.240> terms<00:05:28.887> of<00:05:29.453> the,<00:05:30.181> uh,<00:05:30.504> question<00:05:30.908> of<00:05:30.989> style,<00:05:32.180> one<00:05:32.276> of<00:05:32.308> the<00:05:32.856> interesting<00:05:33.258> things<00:05:33.484> I've<00:05:33.580> learned<00:05:33.822> through<00:05:33.919> my<00:05:34.128> career<00:05:34.466> is<00:05:34.611> that<00:05:34.772> we<00:05:35.336> can—<00:05:35.674> we<00:05:35.819> have<00:05:36.076> an<00:05:36.157> innate<00:05:36.495> style,<00:05:37.042> and<00:05:37.204> mine<00:05:37.509> is<00:05:37.670> one<00:05:38.234> of<00:05:39.036> transparency<00:05:40.648> and<00:05:41.776> intimacy,<00:05:42.905> but<00:05:43.066> it<00:05:43.147> doesn't<00:05:43.388> mean<00:05:43.485> you<00:05:43.630> can't<00:05:44.049> evolve<00:05:44.452> it<00:05:44.613> and<00:05:44.758> grow<00:05:44.920> from<00:05:45.097> it.

00:05:45.435 --> 00:05:55.098
So<00:05:45.645> I<00:05:45.726> can<00:05:45.838> still<00:05:46.386> be<00:05:46.612> my<00:05:46.709> authentic<00:05:47.112> self,<00:05:48.322> but<00:05:49.290> have<00:05:49.548> a<00:05:49.854> bit<00:05:50.032> thicker<00:05:50.580> of<00:05:52.339> a<00:05:52.516> filter,<00:05:53.726> which<00:05:53.904> is<00:05:54.033> what<00:05:54.452> Vic<00:05:54.614> was<00:05:54.759> telling<00:05:54.953> me.

00:05:56.192 --> 00:05:56.851
Yeah,<00:05:56.321> yeah,<00:05:56.658> yeah.

00:05:56.931 --> 00:05:57.574
I<00:05:56.996> love<00:05:57.221> that.

00:05:57.638 --> 00:06:01.060
That's<00:05:57.879> actually<00:05:58.184> really<00:05:59.020> sound,<00:05:59.791> great<00:06:00.048> advice,<00:06:00.691> actually.

00:06:02.522 --> 00:06:11.527
You<00:06:02.554> know,<00:06:02.699> more<00:06:02.940> people<00:06:03.245> need<00:06:03.486> to<00:06:03.984> understand,<00:06:04.611> like,<00:06:04.932> who<00:06:05.093> you're<00:06:05.270> being<00:06:05.527> in<00:06:05.607> a<00:06:05.720> meeting<00:06:06.090> or<00:06:06.141> who<00:06:06.495> you're<00:06:07.558> how<00:06:07.799> you're<00:06:08.120> kind<00:06:08.297> of<00:06:08.377> coming<00:06:08.682> across<00:06:09.164> actually<00:06:09.486> has<00:06:09.663> an<00:06:09.743> effect<00:06:10.691> outside<00:06:11.334> of<00:06:11.430> you.

00:06:11.591 --> 00:06:18.486
It's<00:06:11.751> not<00:06:11.992> just<00:06:13.519> how<00:06:13.744> you<00:06:13.905> personally<00:06:14.322> feel,<00:06:14.628> but<00:06:14.788> when<00:06:14.901> you're<00:06:15.045> in<00:06:15.142> a<00:06:15.270> room,<00:06:15.752> people<00:06:16.010> can<00:06:16.154> feel<00:06:16.557> how<00:06:16.881> you're<00:06:17.059> feeling,<00:06:17.530> which<00:06:17.773> is<00:06:17.870> really<00:06:18.032> interesting.

00:06:19.151 --> 00:06:19.362
It<00:06:19.248> is.

00:06:19.427 --> 00:06:38.742
And<00:06:19.557> that's<00:06:19.978> part<00:06:20.221> of<00:06:20.254> the<00:06:20.529> point<00:06:20.773> of<00:06:21.016> 360<00:06:21.438> feedback<00:06:22.070> and<00:06:22.329> all<00:06:22.492> of<00:06:22.589> those<00:06:22.897> things<00:06:23.302> that,<00:06:24.536> especially<00:06:24.698> again,<00:06:24.957> as<00:06:25.103> a<00:06:25.184> young<00:06:25.443> person<00:06:28.180> and<00:06:28.504> in<00:06:28.601> today's<00:06:29.006> environment<00:06:29.492> where<00:06:29.637> young<00:06:29.799> people<00:06:29.978> feel<00:06:30.285> even<00:06:30.463> more<00:06:30.561> empowered<00:06:31.257> than<00:06:31.419> I<00:06:31.581> did<00:06:31.694> in<00:06:31.792> 1996,<00:06:33.942> to<00:06:34.568> have<00:06:34.744> a<00:06:34.889> real<00:06:35.049> sense<00:06:35.387> of<00:06:35.451> how<00:06:35.611> you're<00:06:35.708> showing<00:06:36.093> up<00:06:37.377> and,<00:06:37.795> and<00:06:37.939> to<00:06:38.036> get<00:06:38.196> that<00:06:38.276> feedback.

00:06:39.545 --> 00:06:39.785
Yeah.

00:06:40.026 --> 00:06:40.813
Yeah,<00:06:40.107> exactly.

00:06:41.230 --> 00:06:44.393
Now,<00:06:41.423> the<00:06:41.551> other<00:06:41.712> one<00:06:41.873> I<00:06:41.889> wanted<00:06:42.113> to<00:06:42.194> ask<00:06:42.434> you<00:06:42.515> about<00:06:42.916> in<00:06:43.012> your<00:06:43.157> background<00:06:43.574> is<00:06:43.606> SoulCycle.

00:06:45.083 --> 00:06:48.567
Now,<00:06:45.340> this<00:06:45.581> thing<00:06:45.806> has<00:06:45.983> taken<00:06:46.304> off<00:06:46.930> and<00:06:47.026> is<00:06:47.138> just<00:06:47.411> an<00:06:47.492> enormous<00:06:48.070> brand.

00:06:48.615 --> 00:06:51.682
And<00:06:48.856> when<00:06:49.033> you<00:06:49.193> were<00:06:49.354> there,<00:06:49.595> it<00:06:49.675> seems<00:06:49.932> like<00:06:50.076> that's<00:06:50.317> probably<00:06:50.622> when<00:06:50.735> it<00:06:50.767> was<00:06:50.959> even<00:06:51.136> at<00:06:51.281> its<00:06:51.505> peak.

00:06:52.244 --> 00:06:53.127
Tell<00:06:52.404> me<00:06:52.549> about<00:06:52.806> that.

00:06:53.769 --> 00:06:53.833
Yeah.

00:06:54.395 --> 00:06:59.838
I<00:06:54.491> mean,<00:06:54.652> listen,<00:06:54.877> I<00:06:55.037> was<00:06:55.278> there<00:06:55.599> just<00:06:55.776> before<00:06:56.017> COVID<00:06:56.723> and<00:06:57.140> COVID<00:06:57.462> dramatically<00:06:58.023> changed<00:06:58.489> the<00:06:58.666> in-person<00:06:59.067> fitness<00:06:59.388> industry.

00:07:00.817 --> 00:07:04.542
As<00:07:01.379> well<00:07:01.556> as<00:07:01.716> my<00:07:02.198> business<00:07:02.423> school<00:07:02.583> classmate<00:07:03.643> who<00:07:03.803> founded<00:07:04.044> Peloton.

00:07:04.606 --> 00:07:07.865
That<00:07:04.751> also<00:07:05.168> changed<00:07:05.553> the,<00:07:06.774> the<00:07:06.934> boutique<00:07:07.175> fitness<00:07:07.496> business.

00:07:08.700 --> 00:07:12.441
But,<00:07:09.327> you<00:07:09.359> know,<00:07:09.487> SoulCycle<00:07:10.386> is<00:07:10.691> one<00:07:10.868> of<00:07:11.028> the<00:07:11.173> most<00:07:11.430> amazing<00:07:12.072> brands.

00:07:12.779 --> 00:07:24.949
And<00:07:12.875> to<00:07:13.035> be<00:07:13.437> like,<00:07:13.597> just<00:07:13.822> like<00:07:13.983> OXO,<00:07:14.721> to<00:07:14.802> be<00:07:14.946> kind<00:07:15.123> of<00:07:15.428> in<00:07:15.588> and<00:07:15.701> around<00:07:16.809> a<00:07:16.953> brand<00:07:17.306> that<00:07:17.515> is<00:07:17.611> an<00:07:17.708> experiential<00:07:18.478> brand<00:07:19.217> teaches<00:07:19.683> you<00:07:19.779> so<00:07:20.116> much<00:07:20.742> about<00:07:21.304> the<00:07:21.465> connection<00:07:22.107> between<00:07:22.508> the<00:07:22.669> consumer<00:07:23.391> and<00:07:23.472> the<00:07:23.552> product,<00:07:24.018> the<00:07:24.098> consumer<00:07:24.435> and<00:07:24.515> the<00:07:24.596> service.

00:07:25.720 --> 00:07:30.905
And<00:07:25.864> I<00:07:25.960> think<00:07:26.121> that's<00:07:26.426> always<00:07:26.683> been<00:07:26.779> a<00:07:26.844> sensitivity<00:07:27.871> I've<00:07:28.032> had<00:07:28.626> around<00:07:29.332> what<00:07:29.669> is<00:07:29.814> the<00:07:29.974> consumer<00:07:30.600> journey.

00:07:31.258 --> 00:07:52.139
And<00:07:31.322> it<00:07:31.419> sounds<00:07:31.740> kind<00:07:31.916> of<00:07:31.980> hokey<00:07:32.462> when<00:07:32.558> it's<00:07:32.703> like<00:07:33.008> on<00:07:33.040> a,<00:07:33.585> you<00:07:33.682> know,<00:07:34.211> when<00:07:34.709> companies<00:07:35.190> talk<00:07:35.447> about<00:07:35.736> it,<00:07:36.539> but<00:07:36.956> at<00:07:37.036> the<00:07:37.261> end<00:07:37.373> of<00:07:37.437> the<00:07:37.518> day,<00:07:37.694> especially<00:07:37.999> now<00:07:38.240> as<00:07:38.336> an<00:07:38.465> investor,<00:07:39.508> like<00:07:39.668> that<00:07:39.861> is<00:07:40.005> the<00:07:40.166> core<00:07:41.193> of<00:07:41.915> anything,<00:07:42.317> which<00:07:42.557> is<00:07:42.959> what<00:07:43.199> journey<00:07:43.440> are<00:07:43.520> you<00:07:43.617> taking<00:07:43.938> the<00:07:44.082> consumer<00:07:44.644> on<00:07:45.141> that<00:07:45.382> is<00:07:45.687> delightful,<00:07:46.425> that<00:07:46.811> is<00:07:47.244> supportive,<00:07:48.014> that<00:07:48.191> is<00:07:48.496> all<00:07:48.528> the<00:07:48.817> adjectives<00:07:49.314> you<00:07:49.539> want<00:07:49.796> for<00:07:49.892> that<00:07:50.101> brand<00:07:50.358> to<00:07:50.438> mean<00:07:51.064> has<00:07:51.305> to<00:07:51.401> start<00:07:51.561> with<00:07:51.642> the<00:07:51.722> product.

00:07:52.605 --> 00:08:05.801
And<00:07:52.765> so<00:07:53.086> when<00:07:53.231> you<00:07:53.407> walk<00:07:53.953> in,<00:07:54.370> if<00:07:54.466> for<00:07:54.755> those<00:07:54.932> of<00:07:55.012> you<00:07:55.092> who<00:07:55.173> are<00:07:55.253> listening<00:07:55.574> who've<00:07:55.718> never<00:07:55.975> been<00:07:56.055> to<00:07:56.200> SoulCycle<00:07:56.697> or<00:07:56.922> any<00:07:57.179> boutique<00:07:57.484> fitness<00:07:57.741> space,<00:07:58.030> spin<00:07:58.206> class,<00:07:59.007> it's<00:07:59.103> like<00:07:59.263> you<00:07:59.424> walk<00:07:59.680> into<00:07:59.984> a<00:08:00.000> small<00:08:00.770> room<00:08:01.411> and<00:08:01.811> already<00:08:02.196> you<00:08:02.228> should<00:08:02.468> be<00:08:02.628> transformed<00:08:03.189> by<00:08:03.349> the<00:08:03.510> lighting,<00:08:03.910> the<00:08:04.054> music,<00:08:04.551> the<00:08:04.775> energy,<00:08:05.192> the<00:08:05.336> talent.

00:08:06.378 --> 00:08:13.300
It<00:08:06.474> is<00:08:06.714> meant<00:08:07.035> to<00:08:07.195> be<00:08:07.419> transformative,<00:08:08.381> to<00:08:08.878> frankly,<00:08:09.278> to<00:08:09.358> make<00:08:09.519> sure<00:08:09.743> you<00:08:09.839> know<00:08:09.999> that,<00:08:10.320> you<00:08:10.416> know,<00:08:10.865> that<00:08:10.961> you're<00:08:11.105> not<00:08:11.281> working<00:08:11.666> out,<00:08:11.922> like<00:08:12.162> it's<00:08:12.323> to<00:08:12.467> make<00:08:12.627> you<00:08:12.707> want<00:08:12.803> to<00:08:12.884> stay<00:08:13.124> there.

00:08:13.829 --> 00:08:17.787
Um,<00:08:14.246> but,<00:08:14.566> but<00:08:14.726> I<00:08:14.806> think<00:08:14.967> I<00:08:15.111> learned<00:08:15.303> a<00:08:15.447> lot<00:08:15.704> about<00:08:16.248> the<00:08:16.393> experience<00:08:17.226> is<00:08:17.450> point<00:08:17.611> one.

00:08:17.851 --> 00:08:19.662
Point<00:08:18.171> two<00:08:19.053> is<00:08:19.213> talent.

00:08:19.934 --> 00:08:28.178
I<00:08:19.950> mean,<00:08:20.174> SoulCycle,<00:08:21.360> like<00:08:21.697> Peloton<00:08:22.177> and<00:08:22.402> other<00:08:22.658> fitness<00:08:23.043> classes,<00:08:23.603> it<00:08:23.700> relies<00:08:24.260> upon<00:08:25.287> the<00:08:25.929> talent<00:08:26.491> that<00:08:26.732> is<00:08:26.909> the<00:08:27.069> leader<00:08:27.616> of<00:08:27.808> the<00:08:27.937> group.

00:08:28.901 --> 00:08:32.097
And<00:08:29.238> I<00:08:29.399> think<00:08:29.623> you<00:08:29.720> can<00:08:29.816> define<00:08:30.202> talent<00:08:30.619> in<00:08:30.844> business<00:08:31.246> in<00:08:31.326> a<00:08:31.390> lot<00:08:31.551> of<00:08:31.583> different<00:08:31.808> ways.

00:08:32.386 --> 00:08:36.916
SoulCycle,<00:08:32.788> it's<00:08:33.575> talent<00:08:33.976> that's<00:08:34.282> consumer-facing,<00:08:35.422> but<00:08:35.567> there's<00:08:35.743> talent<00:08:36.161> internally<00:08:36.691> as<00:08:36.787> well.

00:08:37.574 --> 00:08:45.959
And<00:08:37.671> how<00:08:38.056> you<00:08:38.795> help<00:08:39.341> recruit<00:08:39.679> that<00:08:39.839> talent<00:08:40.321> and<00:08:41.767> involve<00:08:42.168> them<00:08:42.329> in<00:08:42.409> the<00:08:42.554> brand<00:08:43.453> is<00:08:43.534> something,<00:08:43.855> whether<00:08:44.080> it's<00:08:44.176> internal<00:08:44.481> or<00:08:44.578> external,<00:08:45.156> is<00:08:45.301> really<00:08:45.477> important.

00:08:46.811 --> 00:08:50.521
And<00:08:46.891> then<00:08:46.987> I<00:08:47.068> think<00:08:47.228> the<00:08:47.389> third<00:08:47.855> thing<00:08:48.031> that<00:08:48.176> I<00:08:48.272> learned,<00:08:48.433> which<00:08:48.658> people<00:08:48.834> might<00:08:48.915> be<00:08:49.011> surprised<00:08:49.477> about,<00:08:49.798> is<00:08:49.943> just<00:08:50.184> data.

00:08:51.019 --> 00:08:52.657
SoleCycle<00:08:51.484> is<00:08:51.565> incredibly<00:08:52.127> data-driven.

00:08:52.994 --> 00:08:57.634
And<00:08:53.235> in<00:08:53.315> this<00:08:53.636> world<00:08:53.909> of<00:08:54.037> data<00:08:54.214> and<00:08:54.359> AI,<00:08:54.953> I<00:08:55.017> think<00:08:55.322> a<00:08:55.338> lot<00:08:55.499> of<00:08:55.579> executives<00:08:56.061> toss<00:08:56.446> around<00:08:56.623> that<00:08:56.847> word<00:08:57.249> loosely.

00:08:58.309 --> 00:09:02.178
But,<00:08:58.790> you<00:08:58.887> know,<00:08:59.352> you're<00:08:59.577> looking<00:08:59.834> at<00:08:59.914> a<00:09:00.059> daily<00:09:00.316> report<00:09:00.862> of<00:09:00.942> the<00:09:01.022> sales<00:09:01.295> from<00:09:01.440> the<00:09:01.536> day<00:09:01.680> before.

00:09:02.307 --> 00:09:03.928
I<00:09:02.339> mean,<00:09:02.644> you<00:09:02.869> have<00:09:03.190> to<00:09:03.270> be<00:09:03.366> data-driven.

00:09:04.009 --> 00:09:08.360
You<00:09:04.153> have<00:09:04.426> to<00:09:04.571> be<00:09:04.731> understanding<00:09:06.160> everything<00:09:06.578> that's<00:09:06.738> going<00:09:07.043> on,<00:09:07.364> all<00:09:07.477> of<00:09:07.621> those<00:09:07.798> metrics.

00:09:08.504 --> 00:09:15.457
And<00:09:08.601> I<00:09:08.665> think<00:09:08.842> sometimes<00:09:09.211> we<00:09:09.291> forget<00:09:09.693> that<00:09:10.817> in<00:09:10.913> a<00:09:10.929> lot<00:09:11.154> of<00:09:11.234> businesses,<00:09:11.876> that<00:09:12.422> at<00:09:12.599> the<00:09:13.305> end<00:09:13.418> of<00:09:13.482> the<00:09:13.562> day,<00:09:13.883> performance<00:09:14.526> is<00:09:14.670> based<00:09:14.911> on<00:09:15.007> knowing<00:09:15.168> your<00:09:15.264> numbers.

00:09:16.839 --> 00:09:19.122
Yeah,<00:09:17.341> that's<00:09:17.827> interesting<00:09:18.426> too.

00:09:19.527 --> 00:09:19.770
Okay.

00:09:19.851 --> 00:09:27.675
Now,<00:09:20.985> what<00:09:21.131> made<00:09:21.374> you<00:09:21.455> decide,<00:09:21.940> I<00:09:22.102> want<00:09:22.248> to<00:09:22.362> go<00:09:22.604> into<00:09:22.847> venture<00:09:23.155> capital,<00:09:23.722> I<00:09:23.803> want<00:09:23.949> to<00:09:24.062> be<00:09:24.143> an<00:09:24.224> investor<00:09:25.439> in<00:09:25.585> the<00:09:25.666> specific<00:09:26.249> space<00:09:26.978> that<00:09:27.205> you're<00:09:27.529> in?

00:09:28.598 --> 00:09:32.503
Why<00:09:28.825> do<00:09:28.906> you<00:09:29.003> see<00:09:29.246> that<00:09:29.489> as<00:09:29.635> like<00:09:29.830> such<00:09:30.138> a,<00:09:30.688> you<00:09:30.769> know,<00:09:31.191> there's<00:09:31.418> so<00:09:31.499> much<00:09:31.742> green<00:09:31.920> grass<00:09:32.309> there.

00:09:34.201 --> 00:09:40.926
So<00:09:34.669> the<00:09:34.814> topic<00:09:35.233> of<00:09:35.459> aging<00:09:36.443> is<00:09:36.523> something<00:09:36.926> that<00:09:37.071> we<00:09:37.168> don't<00:09:37.491> really<00:09:38.458> talk<00:09:38.797> about<00:09:39.087> a<00:09:39.103> lot<00:09:40.152> as<00:09:40.297> a<00:09:40.329> society.

00:09:41.748 --> 00:09:48.922
And<00:09:41.909> just<00:09:42.087> to<00:09:42.167> kind<00:09:42.345> of<00:09:42.490> level<00:09:42.700> set,<00:09:43.150> I<00:09:43.167> mean,<00:09:44.402> we're<00:09:44.892> dealing<00:09:45.197> right<00:09:45.373> now<00:09:45.678> with<00:09:45.855> a<00:09:45.999> huge<00:09:46.401> population<00:09:47.059> shift<00:09:47.782> that<00:09:48.022> it's<00:09:48.183> like<00:09:48.408> climate<00:09:48.665> change.

00:09:49.002 --> 00:09:56.740
Like<00:09:49.162> with<00:09:49.291> the<00:09:49.387> data<00:09:49.708> has<00:09:49.869> always<00:09:50.110> been<00:09:50.270> there,<00:09:50.736> which<00:09:50.912> is<00:09:50.993> to<00:09:51.137> say<00:09:51.378> that<00:09:51.474> by<00:09:51.635> 2060,<00:09:53.305> there'll<00:09:53.465> be<00:09:53.706> more<00:09:53.883> people<00:09:54.268> over<00:09:54.445> the<00:09:54.589> age<00:09:54.750> of<00:09:54.782> 65<00:09:55.488> than<00:09:55.713> under<00:09:55.906> the<00:09:56.114> age<00:09:56.227> of<00:09:56.307> 18.

00:09:56.853 --> 00:10:05.089
We're<00:09:57.078> basically<00:09:57.415> going<00:09:57.640> through<00:09:57.736> a<00:09:57.880> population<00:09:59.261> that<00:09:59.422> used<00:09:59.647> to<00:09:59.727> look<00:09:59.887> like<00:10:00.000> a<00:10:00.128> pyramid<00:10:00.706> with<00:10:01.011> older<00:10:01.252> adults<00:10:01.589> at<00:10:01.670> the<00:10:01.750> top<00:10:02.087> in<00:10:02.151> the<00:10:02.231> narrow<00:10:02.553> part<00:10:03.195> and<00:10:03.291> is<00:10:03.436> now<00:10:03.676> gonna<00:10:03.901> be<00:10:03.998> an<00:10:04.222> inverted<00:10:04.704> pyramid.

00:10:05.988 --> 00:10:21.792
And<00:10:06.326> just<00:10:06.566> think<00:10:06.743> about<00:10:07.594> all<00:10:07.787> the<00:10:07.947> implications<00:10:08.654> that<00:10:08.814> has<00:10:09.280> for<00:10:09.537> every<00:10:09.922> area<00:10:10.083> of<00:10:10.163> our<00:10:10.243> economy,<00:10:10.805> from<00:10:10.982> our<00:10:11.206> healthcare<00:10:11.784> to<00:10:11.929> our<00:10:12.122> financial<00:10:12.523> services<00:10:13.149> and<00:10:13.213> retirement,<00:10:14.032> you<00:10:14.113> know,<00:10:14.434> program<00:10:14.836> and<00:10:14.996> wealth<00:10:15.318> and<00:10:15.944> housing<00:10:16.442> and<00:10:16.603> workplace<00:10:17.246> and<00:10:17.551> consumer<00:10:18.049> media,<00:10:18.370> technology,<00:10:18.916> travel,<00:10:19.736> literally<00:10:20.121> every,<00:10:20.684> every<00:10:20.860> industry<00:10:21.198> is<00:10:21.342> impacted.

00:10:22.467 --> 00:10:32.782
And<00:10:22.612> so<00:10:22.788> for<00:10:23.045> me,<00:10:23.495> I<00:10:23.592> got<00:10:23.833> interested<00:10:24.218> in<00:10:24.315> this<00:10:25.359> because<00:10:25.696> my<00:10:25.841> father<00:10:27.367> was<00:10:28.331> retired,<00:10:29.135> forcibly<00:10:29.440> retired<00:10:30.564> in,<00:10:32.010> in<00:10:32.171> his<00:10:32.348> 60s.

00:10:33.456 --> 00:10:37.891
And<00:10:33.858> I<00:10:33.938> started<00:10:34.195> to<00:10:34.276> look<00:10:34.453> around<00:10:34.742> and<00:10:34.822> say,<00:10:35.063> what<00:10:35.159> happens<00:10:35.561> in<00:10:35.625> this<00:10:35.786> country<00:10:36.188> in<00:10:36.268> our<00:10:36.380> 60s,<00:10:36.766> 70s,<00:10:37.232> 80s,<00:10:37.489> 90s?

00:10:38.999 --> 00:10:49.997
And<00:10:39.096> it's<00:10:39.256> no<00:10:39.481> longer<00:10:39.803> this<00:10:39.963> kind<00:10:40.156> of<00:10:40.285> like<00:10:40.510> rosy<00:10:40.927> perfect,<00:10:41.505> like,<00:10:41.826> you<00:10:41.890> know,<00:10:42.067> retire,<00:10:42.693> hold<00:10:42.934> hands<00:10:43.174> on<00:10:43.207> the<00:10:43.287> sunset,<00:10:44.539> you<00:10:44.619> know,<00:10:45.438> and<00:10:45.583> walk<00:10:45.904> off<00:10:46.144> because<00:10:46.738> it's<00:10:46.883> really<00:10:47.108> expensive<00:10:47.846> to,<00:10:48.649> and<00:10:48.729> most<00:10:48.890> people<00:10:49.050> can't<00:10:49.211> afford<00:10:49.452> their<00:10:49.564> retirement.

00:10:50.511 --> 00:10:55.761
So<00:10:50.640> I<00:10:50.736> kind<00:10:50.977> of<00:10:51.121> got<00:10:51.394> interested<00:10:51.844> from<00:10:52.004> my<00:10:52.181> dad's<00:10:52.438> experience<00:10:53.224> and<00:10:53.385> then<00:10:53.545> started,<00:10:54.027> like,<00:10:54.139> basically<00:10:54.669> McKinsey-ized<00:10:55.376> the<00:10:55.472> problem.

00:10:55.873 --> 00:11:03.692
I<00:10:56.178> like,<00:10:56.355> you<00:10:56.451> know,<00:10:56.596> whiteboarded<00:10:57.158> and<00:10:57.318> thought<00:10:57.495> about<00:10:57.960> what<00:10:58.121> are<00:10:58.201> all<00:10:58.362> the<00:10:58.522> products<00:10:58.924> and<00:10:59.020> services<00:10:59.646> and<00:11:00.352> new<00:11:00.673> things<00:11:01.011> we<00:11:01.107> need<00:11:01.653> in<00:11:01.797> order<00:11:01.974> to<00:11:02.070> accommodate<00:11:02.680> this<00:11:02.857> aging<00:11:03.098> population.

00:11:04.302 --> 00:11:08.299
And<00:11:04.398> it<00:11:04.462> was<00:11:04.607> only<00:11:04.944> then,<00:11:05.425> Clint,<00:11:05.827> that<00:11:05.987> I<00:11:06.068> said,<00:11:06.549> and<00:11:06.694> actually<00:11:06.854> I<00:11:07.015> wish,<00:11:07.207> it's<00:11:07.336> actually<00:11:07.496> someone<00:11:07.753> else<00:11:07.834> said<00:11:08.010> it<00:11:08.074> to<00:11:08.171> me.

00:11:08.395 --> 00:11:09.005
I<00:11:08.411> forget<00:11:08.700> who<00:11:08.797> it<00:11:08.877> was.

00:11:09.118 --> 00:11:09.921
I<00:11:09.182> really<00:11:09.359> wish<00:11:09.503> I<00:11:09.583> remember.

00:11:10.306 --> 00:11:21.610
But<00:11:10.482> someone<00:11:10.820> said,<00:11:11.109> well,<00:11:11.205> Abby,<00:11:11.590> instead<00:11:11.992> of<00:11:12.024> starting<00:11:12.409> one<00:11:12.650> business<00:11:13.678> to<00:11:14.577> be<00:11:14.738> a<00:11:14.898> node<00:11:15.605> or<00:11:15.701> a<00:11:15.845> point<00:11:16.359> in<00:11:16.504> this<00:11:16.889> large<00:11:17.210> map<00:11:17.451> you've<00:11:17.612> created,<00:11:18.415> what<00:11:18.575> if<00:11:18.607> you<00:11:18.671> started<00:11:19.009> a<00:11:19.073> venture<00:11:19.394> fund<00:11:19.795> to<00:11:19.892> back<00:11:20.197> dozens<00:11:20.534> and<00:11:20.662> dozens<00:11:20.984> of<00:11:21.080> entrepreneurs?

00:11:22.220 --> 00:11:31.854
So<00:11:22.605> I<00:11:22.750> guess<00:11:22.927> in<00:11:23.023> some<00:11:23.312> ways<00:11:23.954> I'm<00:11:24.131> an<00:11:24.211> entrepreneur<00:11:25.239> where<00:11:25.335> the<00:11:25.496> entrepreneurial<00:11:26.218> venture<00:11:27.005> was<00:11:27.198> a<00:11:27.262> venture<00:11:27.583> fund,<00:11:29.012> as<00:11:29.124> opposed<00:11:29.510> to<00:11:29.590> someone<00:11:29.911> who's<00:11:30.152> grown<00:11:30.393> up<00:11:30.489> saying,<00:11:30.778> hey,<00:11:30.955> I<00:11:30.971> want<00:11:31.099> to<00:11:31.180> be<00:11:31.260> an<00:11:31.356> investor.

00:11:32.239 --> 00:11:33.572
That's<00:11:32.480> the<00:11:32.561> vocation<00:11:33.187> that<00:11:33.283> I<00:11:33.363> have.

00:11:34.487 --> 00:11:37.378
And<00:11:34.568> so<00:11:34.728> then<00:11:34.889> I<00:11:34.969> set<00:11:35.130> about<00:11:35.371> saying,<00:11:35.531> well,<00:11:35.676> how<00:11:35.756> am<00:11:35.852> I<00:11:35.933> going<00:11:36.077> to<00:11:36.157> be<00:11:36.254> the<00:11:36.398> best<00:11:36.639> venture<00:11:36.896> fund<00:11:37.121> ever?

00:11:37.458 --> 00:11:38.357
And<00:11:37.554> I'm<00:11:37.699> very<00:11:38.020> lucky.

00:11:38.662 --> 00:11:57.924
That<00:11:38.822> my<00:11:38.966> business<00:11:39.223> partner,<00:11:39.623> Alan<00:11:39.784> Patrickoff,<00:11:40.649> who's<00:11:41.146> known<00:11:41.482> as<00:11:41.610> the<00:11:41.691> grandfather<00:11:42.187> of<00:11:42.332> venture<00:11:42.572> capital,<00:11:43.373> uh,<00:11:43.710> he<00:11:44.094> founded<00:11:44.511> APAX,<00:11:45.072> a<00:11:45.152> large<00:11:45.392> private<00:11:45.649> equity<00:11:45.873> firm<00:11:46.274> that<00:11:46.338> actually<00:11:46.578> stands<00:11:46.915> for<00:11:46.963> his<00:11:47.139> name,<00:11:47.476> Alan<00:11:47.636> Patrickoff<00:11:48.036> and<00:11:48.181> Associates,<00:11:49.238> and<00:11:49.431> then<00:11:49.559> Greycroft<00:11:49.959> Partners,<00:11:50.456> another<00:11:51.386> multi-billion<00:11:51.963> dollar<00:11:52.523> venture<00:11:52.844> fund,<00:11:53.629> that<00:11:53.725> he,<00:11:54.046> at<00:11:54.126> the<00:11:54.206> same<00:11:54.511> time<00:11:54.767> that<00:11:54.911> I<00:11:55.007> was<00:11:55.168> thinking<00:11:55.424> about<00:11:55.632> these<00:11:55.809> issues,<00:11:56.754> he<00:11:56.914> was<00:11:57.075> thinking<00:11:57.267> about<00:11:57.491> them<00:11:57.587> as<00:11:57.796> well.

00:11:58.212 --> 00:12:06.306
So<00:11:58.469> that<00:11:58.677> when<00:11:58.837> I<00:11:58.934> told<00:11:59.238> my<00:11:59.334> friend<00:11:59.655> John<00:11:59.895> Patrickoff,<00:12:00.536> one<00:12:00.680> of<00:12:00.776> Alan's<00:12:01.017> sons,<00:12:01.882> hey,<00:12:02.026> I'm<00:12:02.123> going<00:12:02.219> to<00:12:02.283> start<00:12:02.475> a<00:12:02.539> venture<00:12:02.844> fund<00:12:03.020> focused<00:12:03.405> on<00:12:03.501> aging,<00:12:04.206> He<00:12:04.366> was<00:12:04.527> like,<00:12:04.799> no<00:12:05.024> way,<00:12:05.184> that's<00:12:05.344> what<00:12:05.489> my<00:12:05.585> dad<00:12:05.809> wants<00:12:06.066> to<00:12:06.146> do.

00:12:07.509 --> 00:12:20.143
And<00:12:07.605> so<00:12:08.391> I<00:12:08.471> guess<00:12:08.695> what<00:12:08.807> I'm<00:12:08.952> saying<00:12:09.208> is<00:12:09.337> the<00:12:09.497> answer<00:12:09.625> to<00:12:09.657> your<00:12:09.818> question<00:12:10.154> is<00:12:10.395> I'm<00:12:10.555> an<00:12:10.860> accidental<00:12:11.357> venture<00:12:11.597> capitalist<00:12:12.800> that<00:12:13.040> is,<00:12:13.585> that<00:12:13.746> had<00:12:14.387> a<00:12:14.708> business<00:12:15.044> idea<00:12:16.311> and<00:12:17.369> paired<00:12:17.754> up<00:12:17.930> with<00:12:18.572> a<00:12:18.652> very<00:12:18.876> experienced<00:12:19.373> venture<00:12:19.614> capitalist.

00:12:20.400 --> 00:12:22.067
And<00:12:20.512> in<00:12:20.640> 2020,<00:12:21.121> we<00:12:21.217> launched<00:12:21.442> Primetime<00:12:21.778> Partners.

00:12:23.125 --> 00:12:27.342
Is<00:12:23.221> one<00:12:23.286> of<00:12:23.382> the<00:12:23.526> problems<00:12:23.943> of<00:12:24.167> aging<00:12:24.745> that<00:12:24.969> we're<00:12:25.210> aging<00:12:25.691> better<00:12:26.011> than<00:12:26.188> we<00:12:26.412> ever<00:12:26.653> have<00:12:26.989> before?

00:12:27.454 --> 00:12:37.702
Like,<00:12:27.582> I'm<00:12:27.695> not<00:12:27.935> sure<00:12:28.015> what<00:12:28.112> the<00:12:28.192> situation<00:12:28.673> is<00:12:29.074> with<00:12:29.539> your<00:12:29.699> dad<00:12:30.036> in<00:12:30.116> his<00:12:30.276> 60s,<00:12:30.821> but<00:12:30.901> it<00:12:30.982> seems<00:12:31.238> like<00:12:31.398> people<00:12:31.863> who<00:12:31.895> are<00:12:32.040> 60<00:12:33.245> today<00:12:33.794> are<00:12:33.907> now<00:12:34.295> like<00:12:34.844> super<00:12:35.328> active<00:12:35.748> and<00:12:35.910> want<00:12:36.120> to<00:12:36.217> work<00:12:36.620> and<00:12:36.798> want<00:12:36.960> to<00:12:37.040> be<00:12:37.266> engaged.

00:12:37.832 --> 00:12:43.748
And<00:12:37.929> like,<00:12:38.494> there's<00:12:38.720> even<00:12:38.882> all<00:12:39.043> this<00:12:39.221> talk<00:12:39.544> of<00:12:39.689> like,<00:12:40.174> we're<00:12:40.270> going<00:12:40.513> to<00:12:40.658> be<00:12:40.900> living<00:12:41.304> over<00:12:41.450> 100<00:12:42.129> consistently<00:12:42.874> soon,<00:12:43.408> right?

00:12:43.813 --> 00:12:49.960
Like,<00:12:44.072> and<00:12:44.153> so<00:12:45.043> that<00:12:45.270> could<00:12:45.448> be<00:12:45.675> like<00:12:46.079> your<00:12:46.176> dad's<00:12:46.662> only<00:12:46.905> like,<00:12:47.374> he<00:12:47.552> has<00:12:47.779> like<00:12:47.941> 40,<00:12:48.670> 45,<00:12:49.266> 50<00:12:49.508> more<00:12:49.734> years.

00:12:50.008 --> 00:12:50.992
Like,<00:12:50.218> who<00:12:50.379> knows,<00:12:50.799> right?

00:12:51.122 --> 00:12:55.897
And<00:12:51.202> so<00:12:51.944> is<00:12:52.089> that<00:12:52.331> part<00:12:52.638> of<00:12:52.735> the<00:12:53.606> challenge<00:12:54.332> and<00:12:54.671> what<00:12:54.832> you're<00:12:54.977> trying<00:12:55.154> to<00:12:55.235> figure<00:12:55.542> out<00:12:55.719> there?

00:12:57.565 --> 00:12:58.811
So<00:12:57.726> there's<00:12:57.953> two<00:12:58.196> challenges.

00:12:59.717 --> 00:13:02.129
For<00:12:59.830> some<00:13:00.138> people,<00:13:00.688> they<00:13:00.850> are<00:13:01.109> aging<00:13:01.514> better<00:13:01.692> than<00:13:01.837> before.

00:13:02.502 --> 00:13:18.400
But<00:13:02.822> if<00:13:02.967> we<00:13:03.224> look<00:13:03.464> at<00:13:03.609> over<00:13:03.769> the<00:13:03.865> past<00:13:04.250> 100<00:13:04.571> years,<00:13:05.646> our<00:13:06.015> lifespan<00:13:07.716> over<00:13:07.796> the<00:13:07.876> past<00:13:08.020> 100<00:13:08.213> years<00:13:08.421> has<00:13:08.598> increased<00:13:08.999> by<00:13:09.705> 50<00:13:10.026> years,<00:13:11.245> but<00:13:11.389> our<00:13:11.566> healthspan,<00:13:13.090> in<00:13:13.170> other<00:13:13.315> words,<00:13:13.555> how<00:13:13.796> long<00:13:13.972> we<00:13:14.133> live<00:13:14.373> in<00:13:14.470> a<00:13:14.534> healthy,<00:13:15.721> independent<00:13:16.299> way,<00:13:16.844> has<00:13:17.005> only<00:13:17.181> increased<00:13:17.582> by<00:13:17.743> 25<00:13:18.224> years.

00:13:19.283 --> 00:13:24.930
So<00:13:19.748> we<00:13:19.908> have<00:13:20.454> actually,<00:13:21.031> while<00:13:21.176> we've<00:13:21.288> increased<00:13:21.673> lifespan,<00:13:22.379> we<00:13:22.475> have<00:13:22.860> more<00:13:23.342> years<00:13:23.743> that<00:13:23.839> we're<00:13:24.080> living<00:13:24.336> in<00:13:24.465> poor<00:13:24.705> health.

00:13:26.165 --> 00:13:30.659
And<00:13:26.245> those<00:13:26.630> more<00:13:26.951> years<00:13:27.272> that<00:13:27.352> we're<00:13:27.449> living<00:13:27.705> in<00:13:27.850> poor<00:13:28.154> health<00:13:29.037> is<00:13:29.069> an<00:13:29.134> incredible<00:13:29.696> drain<00:13:30.017> on<00:13:30.097> the<00:13:30.177> system.

00:13:31.125 --> 00:13:41.032
Medicare,<00:13:31.783> which<00:13:31.927> is<00:13:32.425> the<00:13:32.570> healthcare<00:13:32.907> system<00:13:33.308> for<00:13:33.405> those<00:13:33.694> over<00:13:34.031> age<00:13:34.191> 65,<00:13:35.460> um,<00:13:36.263> costs<00:13:37.146> $1<00:13:37.306> trillion<00:13:37.708> a<00:13:38.029> year<00:13:39.394> and<00:13:39.490> it's<00:13:39.651> growing<00:13:40.197> at<00:13:40.437> 8.4%.

00:13:42.075 --> 00:13:46.651
So<00:13:42.284> normally<00:13:42.605> if<00:13:42.637> it<00:13:42.685> was<00:13:42.798> a<00:13:42.926> business<00:13:43.424> with<00:13:43.585> a<00:13:43.649> trillion-dollar<00:13:44.227> revenue<00:13:44.628> growing<00:13:44.869> 8.4%<00:13:45.287> a<00:13:45.351> year,<00:13:45.592> you<00:13:45.688> say<00:13:45.832> that's<00:13:46.154> amazing.

00:13:47.342 --> 00:13:48.931
Not<00:13:47.599> when<00:13:47.775> it's<00:13:47.936> coming<00:13:48.177> out<00:13:48.257> of<00:13:48.321> the<00:13:48.402> federal<00:13:48.707> budget.

00:13:49.429 --> 00:13:53.604
Healthcare<00:13:49.911> costs<00:13:50.168> in<00:13:50.248> our<00:13:50.393> country<00:13:50.810> are<00:13:50.971> going<00:13:51.067> to<00:13:51.131> be<00:13:51.211> 50%<00:13:51.870> of<00:13:51.998> every<00:13:52.175> taxpayer<00:13:52.657> dollar<00:13:52.897> by<00:13:52.978> 2060.

00:13:54.118 --> 00:14:09.113
So<00:13:54.342> this<00:13:55.288> increase<00:13:56.090> in<00:13:57.245> our<00:13:57.453> time<00:13:57.870> span<00:13:58.351> of<00:13:58.496> being<00:13:58.688> sick,<00:14:00.260> which<00:14:00.420> has<00:14:00.821> actually<00:14:01.078> been<00:14:01.783> enhanced<00:14:02.281> by<00:14:02.441> modern<00:14:02.682> medicine<00:14:03.467> and<00:14:03.644> procedures<00:14:04.285> and<00:14:04.430> devices<00:14:05.167> and<00:14:05.392> all<00:14:05.568> the<00:14:05.809> wonderful<00:14:06.210> parts<00:14:06.450> of<00:14:06.515> medical<00:14:06.851> care,<00:14:07.573> what<00:14:07.717> it's<00:14:07.814> doing<00:14:08.070> is<00:14:08.214> creating<00:14:08.439> a<00:14:08.535> huge<00:14:08.760> cost.

00:14:09.417 --> 00:14:19.569
So<00:14:09.818> part<00:14:10.219> of<00:14:10.444> what<00:14:10.861> we<00:14:10.957> need<00:14:11.246> to<00:14:11.342> do<00:14:11.598> is<00:14:11.743> of<00:14:11.887> course<00:14:12.304> figure<00:14:12.529> out<00:14:12.689> how<00:14:12.929> we<00:14:13.571> increase<00:14:13.908> health<00:14:14.084> span<00:14:15.111> to<00:14:15.207> match<00:14:15.495> our<00:14:15.592> lifespan,<00:14:16.394> which<00:14:16.570> is<00:14:16.698> a<00:14:16.714> lot<00:14:16.875> more<00:14:17.003> of<00:14:17.035> the<00:14:17.115> preventative<00:14:18.093> side<00:14:18.783> of<00:14:19.104> longevity.

00:14:20.309 --> 00:14:34.210
And<00:14:20.486> then<00:14:20.792> at<00:14:20.824> the<00:14:20.905> same<00:14:21.211> time,<00:14:21.694> we<00:14:21.839> need<00:14:22.000> more<00:14:23.626> capacity<00:14:25.317> in<00:14:25.397> our<00:14:25.558> care<00:14:25.864> system<00:14:26.203> and<00:14:26.283> our<00:14:26.428> healthcare<00:14:26.782> system,<00:14:27.169> in<00:14:27.314> our<00:14:27.652> retirement<00:14:28.151> savings,<00:14:28.779> all<00:14:28.876> of<00:14:29.005> these<00:14:29.150> things<00:14:29.905> to<00:14:30.081> accommodate<00:14:30.852> these<00:14:31.029> longer<00:14:31.350> lives<00:14:32.379> that<00:14:32.941> frankly<00:14:33.214> have<00:14:33.359> not<00:14:33.519> been<00:14:33.680> budgeted<00:14:34.065> for.

00:14:36.170 --> 00:14:36.588
Yeah.

00:14:37.134 --> 00:14:44.578
And<00:14:37.214> so,<00:14:38.323> who<00:14:38.483> are<00:14:38.644> some<00:14:38.901> of<00:14:39.030> the<00:14:39.062> companies<00:14:39.715> that<00:14:39.878> you've<00:14:40.107> invested<00:14:40.678> in<00:14:41.249> or<00:14:42.310> even<00:14:42.718> haven't<00:14:42.979> invested<00:14:43.615> in<00:14:43.795> but<00:14:44.268> admire?

00:14:45.340 --> 00:14:47.500
Who<00:14:45.540> are<00:14:45.780> kind<00:14:45.960> of<00:14:46.020> tackling<00:14:46.480> this<00:14:46.900> problem?

00:14:49.600 --> 00:14:53.030
So<00:14:49.660> to<00:14:49.980> level<00:14:50.160> set,<00:14:50.540> we<00:14:50.560> do<00:14:50.900> seed<00:14:51.060> to<00:14:51.240> Series<00:14:51.540> A<00:14:51.800> investing,<00:14:52.340> so<00:14:52.400> very<00:14:52.580> early.

00:14:53.680 --> 00:14:55.880
So<00:14:53.700> some<00:14:54.980> of<00:14:55.160> these—.

00:14:55.880 --> 00:14:56.720
That's<00:14:55.881> where<00:14:55.940> it's<00:14:56.080> fun,<00:14:56.380> right?

00:14:56.720 --> 00:14:57.280
Isn't<00:14:56.860> it<00:14:57.080> cool?

00:14:57.280 --> 00:15:00.440
Like<00:14:57.560> when<00:14:57.660> you're<00:14:57.840> meeting<00:14:58.000> them<00:14:58.200> at<00:14:58.320> the<00:14:58.420> early<00:14:58.700> stage,<00:14:59.280> these<00:14:59.360> early<00:14:59.660> stages,<00:15:00.350> it's<00:15:00.400> super<00:15:00.420> fun.

00:15:00.440 --> 00:15:00.920
Oh<00:15:00.441> my<00:15:00.442> gosh,<00:15:00.443> absolutely.

00:15:00.920 --> 00:15:04.640
I<00:15:01.100> mean,<00:15:01.220> we've<00:15:01.960> met<00:15:02.120> 2,000<00:15:02.620> companies<00:15:03.000> in<00:15:03.260> the<00:15:03.380> past,<00:15:03.780> you<00:15:03.980> know,<00:15:04.200> 4<00:15:04.320> years.

00:15:04.640 --> 00:15:05.720
And<00:15:04.700> why<00:15:05.240> would<00:15:05.340> I<00:15:05.420> mean<00:15:05.520> me?

00:15:05.720 --> 00:15:07.380
We're<00:15:05.900> a<00:15:05.960> team<00:15:06.060> of<00:15:06.500> 5.

00:15:07.380 --> 00:15:12.120
And<00:15:07.840> so,<00:15:08.400> you<00:15:08.600> know,<00:15:08.760> we've<00:15:09.140> met<00:15:09.520> hundreds<00:15:10.800> and<00:15:10.960> hundreds<00:15:11.280> of<00:15:11.440> entrepreneurs.

00:15:12.120 --> 00:15:17.140
And<00:15:12.240> I<00:15:12.420> think<00:15:12.840> you'll<00:15:13.020> find<00:15:13.120> this<00:15:13.260> interesting,<00:15:13.800> Clint,<00:15:14.216> The<00:15:14.377> one<00:15:14.698> unifying<00:15:15.373> theme,<00:15:15.630> because<00:15:15.823> we<00:15:15.919> invest,<00:15:16.224> we're<00:15:16.321> a<00:15:16.481> horizontal<00:15:16.883> fund.

00:15:17.204 --> 00:15:28.978
We<00:15:17.445> invest<00:15:17.927> across<00:15:18.312> health<00:15:18.489> tech,<00:15:18.794> fintech,<00:15:19.597> consumer,<00:15:20.416> we<00:15:20.657> do<00:15:20.818> prop<00:15:21.059> tech,<00:15:21.766> any<00:15:22.087> area<00:15:22.729> that<00:15:23.886> disproportionately<00:15:24.657> impacts<00:15:25.476> the<00:15:25.701> audience<00:15:26.102> age,<00:15:26.359> you<00:15:26.440> know,<00:15:26.536> 50+,<00:15:27.564> or<00:15:27.644> what<00:15:27.789> we<00:15:28.126> deem<00:15:28.351> as<00:15:28.528> older<00:15:28.672> adults.

00:15:29.026 --> 00:15:34.599
It's<00:15:29.170> funny,<00:15:29.716> you<00:15:29.749> know,<00:15:29.845> when<00:15:29.973> we<00:15:30.054> started<00:15:30.375> the<00:15:30.455> fund,<00:15:30.777> it<00:15:30.841> was<00:15:30.937> like<00:15:31.339> thinking<00:15:31.515> about<00:15:31.724> seniors,<00:15:32.367> like,<00:15:33.089> you<00:15:33.170> know,<00:15:33.363> those<00:15:33.652> that<00:15:33.764> are<00:15:33.844> 70,<00:15:34.374> 80.

00:15:34.712 --> 00:15:39.675
And<00:15:34.776> what<00:15:34.872> we<00:15:35.033> realized<00:15:35.515> was<00:15:35.740> that<00:15:35.852> there<00:15:36.077> just<00:15:36.318> weren't<00:15:36.639> enough<00:15:36.800> founders<00:15:37.201> designing<00:15:37.603> for<00:15:37.747> midlife<00:15:38.631> as<00:15:38.808> well<00:15:39.049> as<00:15:39.273> older<00:15:39.514> life.

00:15:40.418 --> 00:15:50.625
But<00:15:40.660> what<00:15:40.756> I<00:15:40.772> was<00:15:40.917> going<00:15:41.030> to<00:15:41.078> say<00:15:43.235> on<00:15:43.396> that<00:15:43.718> note<00:15:44.604> is<00:15:44.781> that<00:15:45.328> the<00:15:45.425> one<00:15:45.586> unifying<00:15:46.085> theme<00:15:46.310> across<00:15:46.777> all<00:15:46.874> the<00:15:46.954> founders<00:15:47.356> we've<00:15:48.709> met<00:15:49.594> is<00:15:49.755> that<00:15:49.852> it's<00:15:49.948> personal<00:15:50.335> for<00:15:50.480> them.

00:15:51.222 --> 00:15:54.091
They're<00:15:51.464> starting<00:15:51.947> a<00:15:52.092> business<00:15:52.511> where<00:15:52.592> they<00:15:52.737> have<00:15:52.834> some<00:15:53.236> point<00:15:53.478> of<00:15:53.559> relevancy.

00:15:54.429 --> 00:15:55.203
It's<00:15:54.590> a<00:15:54.687> loved<00:15:54.929> one.

00:15:55.719 --> 00:15:57.943
It's,<00:15:56.138> you<00:15:56.234> know,<00:15:56.686> their<00:15:56.863> mom<00:15:57.105> was<00:15:57.266> a<00:15:57.330> caregiver.

00:15:58.680 --> 00:16:02.084
They<00:15:58.973> suffered<00:15:59.592> from,<00:16:00.488> you<00:16:00.520> know,<00:16:00.748> a<00:16:00.830> disease<00:16:01.155> when<00:16:01.302> they<00:16:01.465> were<00:16:01.644> younger.

00:16:02.621 --> 00:16:05.839
They<00:16:02.768> were<00:16:02.849> on<00:16:03.012> Medicaid<00:16:03.762> and,<00:16:03.925> you<00:16:04.022> know,<00:16:04.104> saw<00:16:04.495> the<00:16:04.641> challenges<00:16:05.081> of<00:16:05.146> our<00:16:05.293> healthcare<00:16:05.502> system.

00:16:05.903 --> 00:16:09.324
They're<00:16:06.144> all<00:16:06.289> fixers<00:16:07.590> that<00:16:07.750> want<00:16:07.911> to<00:16:07.975> fix<00:16:08.232> some<00:16:08.473> of<00:16:08.537> these<00:16:08.698> big<00:16:08.858> problems.

00:16:09.517 --> 00:16:12.858
And<00:16:09.597> so<00:16:09.918> that<00:16:10.079> part<00:16:10.721> of<00:16:10.866> investing<00:16:11.187> has<00:16:11.348> been<00:16:11.444> amazing,<00:16:12.231> among<00:16:12.472> other<00:16:12.649> things.

00:16:13.195 --> 00:16:17.355
But<00:16:13.291> you<00:16:13.436> asked<00:16:13.596> the<00:16:13.677> question<00:16:14.078> of,<00:16:14.239> you<00:16:14.319> know,<00:16:14.560> what<00:16:14.672> are<00:16:15.219> some<00:16:15.395> of<00:16:15.459> the<00:16:15.604> things<00:16:16.086> that,<00:16:16.664> that<00:16:16.825> we're<00:16:17.098> seeing?

00:16:17.692 --> 00:16:22.976
And<00:16:18.431> I<00:16:18.511> think<00:16:18.688> some<00:16:18.977> of<00:16:19.073> the<00:16:19.105> things<00:16:19.394> that<00:16:20.021> we<00:16:20.117> get<00:16:20.358> really<00:16:20.663> excited<00:16:21.097> about<00:16:21.787> are<00:16:22.044> kind<00:16:22.205> of<00:16:22.285> on<00:16:22.430> two<00:16:22.687> levels.

00:16:23.394 --> 00:16:30.123
One<00:16:23.586> are<00:16:23.731> just<00:16:23.956> like<00:16:24.775> basic<00:16:25.273> infrastructure,<00:16:26.365> like<00:16:26.558> things<00:16:27.023> that<00:16:27.328> just<00:16:27.746> need<00:16:28.067> to<00:16:28.212> happen<00:16:28.774> to<00:16:28.870> accommodate<00:16:29.320> an<00:16:29.497> aging<00:16:29.673> society.

00:16:30.171 --> 00:16:33.268
So<00:16:30.396> for<00:16:30.541> example,<00:16:30.942> one<00:16:31.103> of<00:16:31.183> our<00:16:31.279> investments<00:16:31.761> is<00:16:31.810> is<00:16:31.858> a<00:16:31.986> business<00:16:32.242> called<00:16:32.419> SafeRide<00:16:33.044> Health.

00:16:33.461 --> 00:16:48.882
And<00:16:34.022> what<00:16:34.166> SafeRide<00:16:34.743> does<00:16:35.593> is<00:16:35.753> it<00:16:36.010> takes<00:16:36.490> older<00:16:36.731> adults—<00:16:37.452> it<00:16:37.677> or—<00:16:37.853> sorry,<00:16:38.174> it<00:16:38.494> is<00:16:38.574> the<00:16:38.719> technology,<00:16:39.296> the<00:16:39.376> logistics<00:16:39.809> technology<00:16:40.402> behind<00:16:40.803> Uber<00:16:41.043> Health<00:16:41.765> and<00:16:41.925> Lyft<00:16:42.165> Health<00:16:42.823> and<00:16:42.919> a<00:16:43.047> bunch<00:16:43.287> of<00:16:43.368> hospital<00:16:43.784> systems'<00:16:44.329> own<00:16:44.506> fleets<00:16:45.452> that<00:16:45.612> take<00:16:45.933> older<00:16:46.109> adults<00:16:46.510> to<00:16:46.654> the<00:16:46.734> doctor,<00:16:47.151> to<00:16:47.295> their<00:16:47.471> doctor,<00:16:48.177> to<00:16:48.273> the<00:16:48.353> pharmacy.

00:16:49.331 --> 00:16:50.277
It's<00:16:49.491> a<00:16:49.523> logistics<00:16:49.940> business.

00:16:50.678 --> 00:16:51.415
It's<00:16:50.838> tech-enabled.

00:16:52.024 --> 00:16:54.333
And<00:16:52.120> you<00:16:52.201> think<00:16:52.457> about<00:16:52.746> it,<00:16:52.906> you're<00:16:53.002> like,<00:16:53.643> well,<00:16:53.788> yeah,<00:16:53.948> of<00:16:54.108> course.

00:16:54.445 --> 00:17:03.109
Like,<00:16:54.685> how<00:16:54.926> would<00:16:55.070> an<00:16:55.230> older<00:16:55.407> person<00:16:55.952> who<00:16:56.673> has<00:16:56.785> some<00:16:57.394> either<00:16:57.940> disability<00:16:58.678> or<00:16:58.855> can't<00:16:59.176> drive<00:16:59.417> anymore<00:16:59.641> or<00:16:59.818> can't—<00:17:00.203> doesn't<00:17:01.183> own<00:17:01.327> a<00:17:01.407> car,<00:17:01.985> how<00:17:02.162> are<00:17:02.226> they<00:17:02.306> going<00:17:02.419> to<00:17:02.467> get<00:17:02.611> to<00:17:02.708> the<00:17:02.788> doctor?

00:17:03.832 --> 00:17:15.054
Like,<00:17:03.976> there's<00:17:04.458> basic<00:17:05.020> businesses<00:17:05.614> of<00:17:05.742> blocking<00:17:06.143> and<00:17:06.240> tackling<00:17:06.721> how<00:17:06.962> we<00:17:07.347> handle<00:17:08.006> an<00:17:08.230> aging<00:17:09.130> population<00:17:10.318> that<00:17:10.896> can<00:17:11.217> and<00:17:11.281> should<00:17:11.538> be<00:17:11.779> enabled<00:17:12.100> by<00:17:12.260> technology,<00:17:13.384> leapfrogging<00:17:14.428> what<00:17:14.572> exists.

00:17:15.294 --> 00:17:24.205
And,<00:17:15.616> you<00:17:15.696> know,<00:17:15.792> SafeRide's<00:17:16.354> now<00:17:16.515> over<00:17:16.595> $100<00:17:16.996> million<00:17:18.104> in<00:17:18.505> ARR<00:17:18.762> because<00:17:19.565> they<00:17:19.790> just<00:17:20.528> plug<00:17:21.010> that<00:17:21.251> hole<00:17:22.037> of<00:17:22.198> what<00:17:22.358> we<00:17:22.455> need<00:17:22.792> as<00:17:22.920> the<00:17:23.017> basic<00:17:23.322> fabric<00:17:23.675> of<00:17:23.803> how<00:17:23.916> we<00:17:24.060> live.

00:17:25.249 --> 00:17:28.589
And<00:17:25.345> that<00:17:25.570> exists<00:17:25.987> as<00:17:26.228> well<00:17:26.694> on<00:17:27.353> in<00:17:27.433> the<00:17:27.513> wealth<00:17:27.754> management<00:17:28.236> space.

00:17:29.441 --> 00:17:33.745
A<00:17:29.521> business<00:17:29.826> we<00:17:29.906> invested<00:17:30.244> in<00:17:30.388> called<00:17:30.565> Penelope,<00:17:31.207> that's<00:17:31.368> a<00:17:31.448> 401<00:17:32.075> provider<00:17:32.573> for<00:17:32.910> small<00:17:33.279> businesses.

00:17:34.243 --> 00:17:37.263
Like<00:17:34.356> small<00:17:34.661> businesses,<00:17:36.347> they're<00:17:36.588> getting<00:17:36.829> regulated.

00:17:37.311 --> 00:17:39.993
They<00:17:37.391> need<00:17:37.552> to<00:17:37.937> provide<00:17:38.355> their<00:17:38.499> employees<00:17:38.837> 401s,<00:17:39.463> which<00:17:39.576> is<00:17:39.704> wonderful.

00:17:40.041 --> 00:17:41.294
We<00:17:40.138> need<00:17:40.282> that<00:17:40.379> for<00:17:40.523> retirement<00:17:40.941> savings.

00:17:41.712 --> 00:17:42.515
Well,<00:17:41.792> who's<00:17:41.969> going<00:17:42.065> to<00:17:42.194> do<00:17:42.354> that?

00:17:42.932 --> 00:17:44.314
We<00:17:43.093> need<00:17:43.189> a<00:17:43.254> plan<00:17:43.816> that<00:17:43.960> does<00:17:44.137> that.

00:17:44.394 --> 00:17:55.267
So<00:17:44.763> I<00:17:44.860> get<00:17:45.085> really<00:17:45.326> excited<00:17:45.807> about<00:17:46.080> some<00:17:46.321> of<00:17:46.466> these<00:17:47.028> very<00:17:47.269> scalable,<00:17:48.297> but<00:17:48.538> also<00:17:49.373> I<00:17:49.502> wouldn't<00:17:49.630> say<00:17:49.839> basic,<00:17:50.706> but<00:17:50.867> necessity<00:17:51.606> businesses<00:17:52.794> that<00:17:53.196> are<00:17:53.292> brought<00:17:53.549> about<00:17:53.934> by<00:17:54.400> this<00:17:54.577> aging<00:17:54.802> population.

00:17:55.476 --> 00:17:57.596
So<00:17:55.781> that's<00:17:56.103> one<00:17:56.504> area<00:17:56.745> I<00:17:56.890> get<00:17:56.986> excited<00:17:57.323> about.

00:17:58.094 --> 00:18:07.940
Then<00:17:58.191> the<00:17:58.576> other<00:17:58.897> area,<00:17:59.620> you<00:17:59.652> know,<00:17:59.781> I<00:17:59.877> hate<00:18:00.038> to<00:18:00.102> use<00:18:00.214> the<00:18:00.279> word<00:18:00.503> AI<00:18:00.985> because<00:18:01.258> it's<00:18:01.724> like,<00:18:02.190> you<00:18:02.222> know,<00:18:03.346> it's,<00:18:03.732> it's<00:18:03.828> almost<00:18:04.037> like<00:18:04.197> the<00:18:04.294> butt<00:18:04.519> of<00:18:04.615> every<00:18:04.856> joke<00:18:05.161> now,<00:18:05.418> or<00:18:05.643> you<00:18:05.739> could<00:18:05.980> do<00:18:06.125> a<00:18:06.205> drinking<00:18:06.526> game<00:18:06.847> every<00:18:07.024> time<00:18:07.265> someone<00:18:07.490> mentions<00:18:07.827> it.

00:18:08.534 --> 00:18:24.698
Um,<00:18:09.417> but<00:18:09.594> I<00:18:09.754> think<00:18:10.782> that<00:18:10.959> the<00:18:11.200> pace<00:18:11.682> of<00:18:11.762> scientific<00:18:12.870> and<00:18:13.047> data,<00:18:13.770> um,<00:18:14.412> innovation<00:18:15.296> enabled<00:18:15.777> by,<00:18:16.018> by<00:18:16.323> AI<00:18:17.563> We<00:18:17.805> are<00:18:18.433> just<00:18:18.755> in<00:18:18.932> this<00:18:20.059> proliferation<00:18:22.620> of<00:18:23.844> data<00:18:24.150> and<00:18:24.247> information.

00:18:24.810 --> 00:18:27.129
And<00:18:24.891> one<00:18:25.213> area<00:18:25.374> that's<00:18:25.696> really<00:18:26.018> interesting<00:18:26.421> is<00:18:26.550> diagnostics.

00:18:27.869 --> 00:18:31.795
And<00:18:27.949> so<00:18:28.529> if<00:18:28.609> you<00:18:28.689> think<00:18:28.915> about<00:18:29.060> preventative<00:18:29.703> care,<00:18:30.105> how<00:18:30.347> are<00:18:30.379> we<00:18:30.508> going<00:18:30.620> to<00:18:30.910> live<00:18:31.167> to<00:18:31.328> be<00:18:31.489> longer?

00:18:31.859 --> 00:18:34.112
Well,<00:18:32.197> we<00:18:32.374> need<00:18:32.519> to<00:18:32.599> make<00:18:32.696> some<00:18:32.953> fundamental<00:18:33.404> behavior<00:18:33.806> changes.

00:18:34.160 --> 00:18:35.415
Like,<00:18:34.450> how<00:18:34.546> can<00:18:34.723> we<00:18:34.788> increase<00:18:35.029> our<00:18:35.109> healthspan?

00:18:36.090 --> 00:18:36.914
Most<00:18:36.283> of<00:18:36.364> it's<00:18:36.445> behavioral.

00:18:37.253 --> 00:18:40.373
Yes,<00:18:37.496> there's<00:18:37.657> a<00:18:37.722> genetics<00:18:38.142> piece<00:18:38.385> and<00:18:38.449> there's<00:18:38.611> been<00:18:38.659> a<00:18:38.724> lot<00:18:38.869> of<00:18:38.902> studies,<00:18:39.274> but<00:18:39.419> that's<00:18:39.597> a<00:18:39.661> small<00:18:40.001> portion.

00:18:40.971 --> 00:18:49.583
We<00:18:41.197> all<00:18:41.229> know<00:18:41.860> that<00:18:42.102> most<00:18:42.344> of<00:18:42.425> it's<00:18:42.571> going<00:18:42.668> to<00:18:42.748> be<00:18:42.991> what<00:18:43.136> we<00:18:43.379> eat,<00:18:43.621> what<00:18:43.718> we<00:18:43.880> drink,<00:18:44.850> how<00:18:45.027> we<00:18:45.108> sleep,<00:18:45.593> stress,<00:18:46.152> environment,<00:18:47.498> all<00:18:47.675> of<00:18:47.819> those<00:18:48.060> pieces<00:18:48.476> in<00:18:48.573> addition<00:18:48.909> to<00:18:49.022> the<00:18:49.118> genetics.

00:18:50.080 --> 00:18:52.854
So<00:18:50.240> how<00:18:50.481> can<00:18:50.721> we<00:18:50.881> actually<00:18:51.282> change<00:18:51.988> that<00:18:52.164> trajectory?

00:18:53.527 --> 00:18:55.980
We're<00:18:53.687> going<00:18:53.848> to<00:18:53.928> need<00:18:54.152> to<00:18:54.233> have<00:18:54.393> information<00:18:54.954> on<00:18:55.034> ourselves<00:18:55.531> and<00:18:55.595> our<00:18:55.692> body.

00:18:56.718 --> 00:19:19.428
And<00:18:56.878> so<00:18:57.519> by<00:18:57.696> now,<00:18:58.097> because<00:18:58.497> of<00:18:58.562> the<00:18:58.642> advances<00:18:59.139> in<00:18:59.219> science<00:18:59.620> and<00:18:59.700> microscopes,<00:19:00.486> we've<00:19:00.646> got<00:19:00.967> gut<00:19:01.207> health,<00:19:01.624> we've<00:19:01.848> got<00:19:02.506> down<00:19:02.746> to<00:19:02.827> the<00:19:02.907> molecular<00:19:03.468> level,<00:19:03.789> the<00:19:03.949> genomics,<00:19:04.751> like<00:19:04.911> there's<00:19:05.296> all<00:19:05.552> the<00:19:05.697> blood<00:19:05.953> testing<00:19:06.434> and<00:19:06.578> hormones,<00:19:07.140> and<00:19:07.220> there's<00:19:07.540> all<00:19:07.637> this<00:19:07.797> information<00:19:08.278> we<00:19:08.422> have<00:19:08.679> now<00:19:09.240> or<00:19:09.320> can<00:19:09.641> have<00:19:09.865> about<00:19:09.945> ourselves<00:19:11.405> and<00:19:11.549> how<00:19:11.789> we<00:19:11.886> demote,<00:19:12.270> how<00:19:12.431> we<00:19:12.591> make<00:19:12.848> that<00:19:13.168> go<00:19:13.329> from<00:19:13.649> kind<00:19:13.794> of<00:19:13.890> the<00:19:13.970> high<00:19:14.210> net<00:19:14.435> worth<00:19:14.627> and<00:19:14.740> I'm<00:19:14.836> sure<00:19:14.932> you've<00:19:15.029> read<00:19:15.157> stories<00:19:15.574> about<00:19:15.880> the<00:19:15.976> guy<00:19:16.152> in<00:19:16.297> California<00:19:17.003> who's<00:19:17.100> spending<00:19:17.582> millions<00:19:17.919> of<00:19:18.047> dollars<00:19:18.465> extending<00:19:18.850> his<00:19:19.011> own<00:19:19.171> life.

00:19:20.054 --> 00:19:25.176
How<00:19:20.215> we<00:19:20.391> take<00:19:20.793> that<00:19:20.969> information<00:19:21.596> into<00:19:21.901> real<00:19:22.077> diagnostics<00:19:22.784> that<00:19:22.880> are<00:19:23.025> actionable,<00:19:23.908> we<00:19:24.165> really<00:19:24.486> like<00:19:24.662> that<00:19:24.871> space.

00:19:26.332 --> 00:19:36.657
And<00:19:26.413> so<00:19:26.814> I<00:19:26.894> know<00:19:26.991> I'm<00:19:27.135> geeking<00:19:27.440> out<00:19:27.601> a<00:19:27.681> little<00:19:27.858> bit,<00:19:28.661> but<00:19:28.821> I<00:19:28.982> think<00:19:29.367> that<00:19:29.704> I<00:19:29.785> kind<00:19:30.122> of<00:19:30.282> interplay<00:19:30.828> between<00:19:31.470> foundational,<00:19:32.434> like<00:19:32.659> this<00:19:32.771> is<00:19:32.900> what<00:19:32.996> we<00:19:33.076> need<00:19:33.253> as<00:19:33.381> a<00:19:33.397> society,<00:19:34.505> as<00:19:34.682> well<00:19:35.147> as<00:19:35.388> kind<00:19:35.565> of<00:19:35.645> more<00:19:35.886> cutting<00:19:36.368> edge.

00:19:37.090 --> 00:19:42.219
This<00:19:37.315> is<00:19:37.411> how<00:19:37.717> we<00:19:37.797> start<00:19:38.150> to<00:19:38.375> change<00:19:39.178> the<00:19:39.274> slope<00:19:41.252> of<00:19:41.671> our<00:19:41.816> healthspan.

00:19:43.444 --> 00:19:48.358
How<00:19:43.605> do<00:19:43.750> you,<00:19:44.588> I'm<00:19:44.894> just<00:19:45.135> fascinated<00:19:45.554> by<00:19:45.699> like,<00:19:45.925> what<00:19:46.328> does<00:19:46.585> a<00:19:46.666> typical<00:19:47.149> day<00:19:47.633> look<00:19:47.794> like<00:19:48.100> for<00:19:48.197> you?

00:19:50.050 --> 00:19:58.814
I<00:19:50.566> mean,<00:19:50.873> honestly,<00:19:51.228> it's<00:19:51.373> not<00:19:51.534> that<00:19:51.760> exciting,<00:19:53.875> but,<00:19:54.746> you<00:19:54.779> know,<00:19:55.892> a<00:19:55.973> typical<00:19:56.441> day,<00:19:56.780> I<00:19:56.925> have<00:19:57.829> pretty<00:19:58.136> decent<00:19:58.459> habits.

00:20:32.833 --> 00:20:34.738
Whether<00:20:33.140> I<00:20:33.237> do<00:20:33.399> them<00:20:33.902> is<00:20:34.223> another<00:20:34.464> question.

00:20:34.786 --> 00:20:41.101
But<00:20:34.946> I<00:20:35.091> usually,<00:20:35.814> um,<00:20:36.634> I<00:20:36.778> wake<00:20:37.019> up<00:20:37.132> naturally<00:20:37.598> around—<00:20:38.867> this<00:20:39.028> might<00:20:39.124> be<00:20:39.189> too<00:20:39.285> granular,<00:20:39.687> but<00:20:39.767> I<00:20:39.847> wake<00:20:40.008> up<00:20:40.088> naturally<00:20:40.490> around<00:20:40.828> 5.

00:20:41.760 --> 00:20:45.279
Um,<00:20:42.418> I<00:20:42.740> desperately<00:20:43.222> try<00:20:43.463> not<00:20:43.688> to<00:20:43.768> check<00:20:44.025> my<00:20:44.170> phone<00:20:44.572> for<00:20:44.732> a<00:20:44.813> little<00:20:44.989> bit.

00:20:45.857 --> 00:20:49.457
Um,<00:20:46.902> and<00:20:46.998> then<00:20:47.223> when<00:20:47.384> I<00:20:47.560> do,<00:20:48.107> I<00:20:48.348> check<00:20:48.766> email<00:20:49.007> and<00:20:49.087> text.

00:20:49.569 --> 00:20:51.979
I<00:20:49.633> do<00:20:49.698> not<00:20:49.971> go<00:20:50.051> on<00:20:50.276> social<00:20:50.533> media<00:20:51.240> till<00:20:51.337> later<00:20:51.578> in<00:20:51.658> the<00:20:51.803> day.

00:20:52.301 --> 00:20:54.679
I<00:20:52.445> think<00:20:52.622> curbing<00:20:53.024> social<00:20:53.345> media<00:20:53.892> is<00:20:54.068> critical.

00:20:55.177 --> 00:20:57.202
It<00:20:55.338> is—<00:20:55.531> I'm<00:20:55.772> sorry,<00:20:56.221> it<00:20:56.318> is<00:20:56.398> so<00:20:56.655> bad<00:20:56.896> for<00:20:57.041> you.

00:20:57.668 --> 00:21:01.073
Um,<00:20:58.471> and<00:20:58.825> so<00:20:59.291> I<00:20:59.371> really<00:20:59.500> I<00:20:59.516> really<00:20:59.756> do<00:20:59.853> not<00:21:00.077> have<00:21:00.254> that<00:21:00.575> as<00:21:00.672> a<00:21:00.736> habit.

00:21:01.217 --> 00:21:06.002
I<00:21:01.378> exercise<00:21:01.860> in<00:21:01.924> the<00:21:02.020> morning<00:21:03.369> usually,<00:21:03.947> but<00:21:04.107> I<00:21:04.188> need<00:21:04.412> to<00:21:04.509> be<00:21:04.669> back<00:21:05.006> and<00:21:05.135> around<00:21:05.456> for<00:21:05.552> my<00:21:05.713> kids.

00:21:06.211 --> 00:21:10.899
I<00:21:06.275> have<00:21:06.371> 3<00:21:06.596> teenagers,<00:21:08.266> and<00:21:08.378> so<00:21:09.004> back<00:21:09.261> and<00:21:09.325> around<00:21:09.646> in<00:21:09.711> the<00:21:09.807> morning<00:21:10.128> at<00:21:10.208> 7<00:21:10.674> AM.

00:21:11.557 --> 00:21:14.832
And<00:21:11.717> then<00:21:12.376> I<00:21:12.520> usually<00:21:12.777> on<00:21:12.809> my<00:21:13.002> way<00:21:13.098> to<00:21:13.243> work<00:21:13.435> try<00:21:13.580> to<00:21:13.740> connect<00:21:14.126> with<00:21:14.222> a<00:21:14.302> friend.

00:21:15.571 --> 00:21:23.823
I<00:21:15.988> am<00:21:16.213> very<00:21:16.470> busy,<00:21:17.016> and<00:21:17.192> so<00:21:17.754> if<00:21:17.850> I<00:21:18.059> don't<00:21:18.701> have<00:21:18.814> a<00:21:18.942> way<00:21:19.038> to<00:21:19.135> send<00:21:19.376> a<00:21:19.504> text<00:21:19.938> or<00:21:20.002> a<00:21:20.082> quick<00:21:20.307> call<00:21:20.628> to<00:21:20.788> a<00:21:20.869> friend<00:21:21.126> or<00:21:21.222> family<00:21:21.527> member,<00:21:22.314> I<00:21:22.410> personally<00:21:22.892> feel<00:21:23.133> disconnected.

00:21:25.750 --> 00:21:32.529
My<00:21:25.926> day<00:21:26.569> is<00:21:26.746> usually<00:21:28.047> Zoom<00:21:28.272> calls,<00:21:28.914> meetings,<00:21:30.183> uh,<00:21:31.549> working<00:21:31.806> with<00:21:31.967> my<00:21:32.111> team.

00:21:32.609 --> 00:21:35.919
We<00:21:32.754> all<00:21:32.931> are<00:21:33.027> here<00:21:33.429> in<00:21:33.573> the<00:21:33.621> New<00:21:33.798> York<00:21:34.039> office,<00:21:34.682> um,<00:21:35.083> which<00:21:35.244> is<00:21:35.372> fantastic.

00:21:36.529 --> 00:21:37.557
Um,<00:21:37.027> or<00:21:37.091> I'm<00:21:37.188> traveling.

00:21:37.670 --> 00:21:40.562
I<00:21:37.750> travel<00:21:38.152> probably<00:21:39.212> 4<00:21:39.421> days<00:21:39.598> a<00:21:39.614> month,<00:21:39.903> 5<00:21:40.096> days<00:21:40.304> a<00:21:40.337> month.

00:21:41.188 --> 00:21:43.999
Um,<00:21:41.863> so<00:21:42.409> that's<00:21:42.714> kind<00:21:42.875> of<00:21:42.907> what<00:21:43.052> the<00:21:43.132> day<00:21:43.293> looks<00:21:43.598> like.

00:21:44.080 --> 00:21:52.691
Usually<00:21:44.497> done<00:21:44.674> around<00:21:45.044> 6<00:21:45.317> or<00:21:45.381> 7<00:21:45.927> and<00:21:46.650> either<00:21:47.453> home<00:21:47.791> with<00:21:48.016> my<00:21:48.176> kids<00:21:48.739> or<00:21:48.851> social<00:21:49.237> plans<00:21:49.719> and<00:21:51.068> do<00:21:51.164> more<00:21:51.470> emails<00:21:51.887> and<00:21:52.048> rinse<00:21:52.273> and<00:21:52.353> repeat.

00:21:53.333 --> 00:21:55.660
Does<00:21:53.461> that<00:21:53.574> sound<00:21:53.911> similar<00:21:54.296> or<00:21:54.456> different<00:21:54.761> to<00:21:54.857> other<00:21:55.018> folks<00:21:55.259> you<00:21:55.339> talk<00:21:55.499> to?

00:21:56.462 --> 00:21:57.329
It<00:21:56.542> sounds<00:21:56.944> great.

00:21:57.505 --> 00:22:06.894
Yeah,<00:21:57.923> it<00:21:57.987> sounds<00:21:58.388> like<00:21:58.693> I<00:21:58.869> think<00:21:59.046> you<00:21:59.174> have<00:21:59.447> to<00:21:59.592> build<00:21:59.913> habits<00:22:01.341> and<00:22:01.758> various<00:22:02.384> routines<00:22:03.507> as<00:22:03.668> a<00:22:03.764> leader<00:22:04.326> in<00:22:04.470> order<00:22:04.727> to<00:22:04.871> do<00:22:05.112> anything<00:22:05.995> successful,<00:22:06.653> right?

00:22:06.958 --> 00:22:11.692
Like<00:22:07.134> if<00:22:07.231> it's<00:22:07.375> kind<00:22:07.616> of<00:22:07.696> just<00:22:08.001> fly<00:22:08.177> by<00:22:08.338> the<00:22:08.434> seat<00:22:08.659> of<00:22:08.723> the<00:22:08.819> pants<00:22:09.301> and<00:22:09.927> you<00:22:09.959> don't<00:22:10.167> really<00:22:10.408> do<00:22:10.601> the<00:22:10.729> same<00:22:11.050> routine<00:22:11.403> every<00:22:11.564> day.

00:22:11.885 --> 00:22:15.206
I've<00:22:12.045> never<00:22:12.494> actually—<00:22:13.297> this<00:22:13.409> is<00:22:13.554> interesting<00:22:13.939> for<00:22:14.019> you<00:22:14.115> because<00:22:14.340> you<00:22:14.404> meet<00:22:14.581> a<00:22:14.597> lot<00:22:14.757> of<00:22:14.789> founders.

00:22:15.624 --> 00:22:22.041
Have<00:22:15.784> you<00:22:16.105> ever<00:22:17.309> met<00:22:17.550> a<00:22:17.566> founder<00:22:18.047> who's<00:22:18.288> successful<00:22:19.074> who<00:22:19.638> doesn't<00:22:20.000> at<00:22:20.132> least<00:22:20.313> have<00:22:20.461> some<00:22:20.790> sort<00:22:21.054> of<00:22:21.202> routine<00:22:21.564> and<00:22:21.695> habit?

00:22:24.154 --> 00:22:25.592
No,<00:22:25.253> I<00:22:25.317> haven't.

00:22:25.656 --> 00:22:27.934
But<00:22:26.141> then<00:22:26.319> again,<00:22:26.610> some<00:22:26.771> of<00:22:26.820> their<00:22:26.933> habits<00:22:27.272> aren't<00:22:27.433> super<00:22:27.660> healthy.

00:22:27.999 --> 00:22:37.356
Like,<00:22:28.160> you<00:22:28.241> know,<00:22:28.322> when<00:22:28.467> you<00:22:28.500> meet<00:22:28.661> the<00:22:28.790> founder<00:22:29.130> who's<00:22:29.356> like<00:22:29.533> the<00:22:29.630> tech<00:22:29.856> guy,<00:22:31.077> the<00:22:31.109> tech<00:22:31.416> person<00:22:31.886> who,<00:22:32.209> you<00:22:32.242> know,<00:22:32.468> stays<00:22:32.776> up<00:22:32.873> till<00:22:33.019> 4<00:22:33.439> AM<00:22:33.601> every<00:22:33.698> morning,<00:22:34.232> like,<00:22:35.220> but<00:22:35.381> that's<00:22:35.689> their<00:22:35.867> cadence,<00:22:36.433> that's<00:22:36.822> their<00:22:37.064> rhythm.

00:22:37.647 --> 00:22:43.277
The<00:22:37.728> same<00:22:38.052> way<00:22:38.213> that<00:22:38.278> I<00:22:38.375> wake<00:22:38.553> up<00:22:38.634> at<00:22:38.699> 5<00:22:39.184> AM,<00:22:39.330> like,<00:22:39.654> I've<00:22:39.800> stopped,<00:22:40.315> like,<00:22:41.184> you<00:22:41.280> know,<00:22:41.908> everyone<00:22:42.230> has<00:22:42.472> their<00:22:42.568> time<00:22:42.874> clock.

00:22:43.357 --> 00:22:46.287
The<00:22:43.454> key<00:22:43.695> thing<00:22:43.856> is<00:22:44.001> the<00:22:44.033> amount<00:22:44.339> of<00:22:44.436> sleep,<00:22:45.047> you<00:22:45.080> know,<00:22:45.466> you<00:22:45.611> need<00:22:45.772> to<00:22:45.804> get<00:22:45.949> good<00:22:46.110> sleep.

00:22:47.823 --> 00:23:00.189
But<00:22:47.971> I<00:22:48.152> think<00:22:48.399> the<00:22:48.547> piece<00:22:48.892> that<00:22:49.057> I<00:22:49.222> will<00:22:49.386> say,<00:22:49.633> I<00:22:49.699> have<00:22:49.962> met<00:22:50.209> founders,<00:22:51.980> is<00:22:52.076> that,<00:22:53.219> and<00:22:53.299> maybe<00:22:53.557> it's<00:22:53.686> just<00:22:54.185> because<00:22:54.442> of<00:22:54.507> my<00:22:54.668> own<00:22:54.764> experience,<00:22:55.553> and<00:22:56.036> is<00:22:56.181> that,<00:22:56.503> you<00:22:56.535> know,<00:22:57.807> to<00:22:57.903> make<00:22:58.048> sure<00:22:58.290> you<00:22:58.515> keep<00:22:58.772> learning<00:22:59.175> new<00:22:59.271> things<00:22:59.642> and<00:22:59.738> new<00:22:59.883> habits.

00:23:02.779 --> 00:23:09.671
And<00:23:02.827> so,<00:23:02.956> and<00:23:03.036> just<00:23:03.197> new<00:23:03.341> ways<00:23:03.534> of<00:23:03.743> thinking<00:23:04.000> about<00:23:04.241> it,<00:23:05.285> because<00:23:05.671> change<00:23:05.992> is<00:23:06.153> really<00:23:06.329> hard,<00:23:07.293> but<00:23:07.454> we<00:23:07.759> kind<00:23:07.920> of<00:23:08.161> all<00:23:08.257> have<00:23:08.434> to<00:23:08.579> keep<00:23:09.205> evolving.

00:23:10.169 --> 00:23:12.650
And<00:23:10.250> you'll<00:23:10.410> definitely<00:23:10.748> sometimes<00:23:11.230> meet<00:23:11.390> people<00:23:11.784> who<00:23:11.957> don't<00:23:12.130> have<00:23:12.338> that<00:23:12.425> growth<00:23:12.494> mindset.

00:23:13.220 --> 00:23:13.463
Mindset.

00:23:13.658 --> 00:23:16.369
It's<00:23:13.820> kind<00:23:14.048> of<00:23:14.470> wishy-washy<00:23:15.119> to<00:23:15.184> talk<00:23:15.379> about<00:23:15.606> a<00:23:15.671> growth<00:23:15.931> mindset.

00:23:16.905 --> 00:23:19.081
But<00:23:17.311> when<00:23:17.457> you<00:23:17.620> meet<00:23:17.798> someone<00:23:18.026> who<00:23:18.123> doesn't<00:23:18.383> have<00:23:18.529> one,<00:23:18.675> you<00:23:18.773> know<00:23:18.935> it.

00:23:20.082 --> 00:23:23.631
And<00:23:20.179> so<00:23:20.811> I<00:23:20.957> think<00:23:21.119> that's<00:23:21.378> a<00:23:21.459> piece<00:23:21.783> that<00:23:22.107> we're<00:23:22.351> trying<00:23:22.594> to<00:23:22.675> get<00:23:22.820> a<00:23:22.837> lot<00:23:23.161> better<00:23:23.469> at.

00:23:23.712 --> 00:23:27.050
And<00:23:23.809> we<00:23:24.279> won't<00:23:24.457> back<00:23:24.700> founders,<00:23:25.737> you<00:23:25.818> know,<00:23:26.013> that<00:23:26.159> don't<00:23:26.385> have<00:23:26.564> a<00:23:26.629> growth<00:23:26.823> mindset.

00:23:28.770 --> 00:23:39.227
How<00:23:28.898> is<00:23:29.284> artificial<00:23:29.848> intelligence<00:23:30.572> affecting<00:23:31.763> your<00:23:32.085> job,<00:23:32.728> meaning<00:23:33.050> from<00:23:33.324> a<00:23:33.694> VC<00:23:34.112> and<00:23:34.193> investor<00:23:34.820> perspective,<00:23:36.230> and<00:23:36.505> to<00:23:37.218> also<00:23:37.542> your<00:23:37.704> space<00:23:38.369> that<00:23:38.514> you're<00:23:38.676> investing<00:23:39.179> in?

00:23:39.742 --> 00:23:40.706
Yeah,<00:23:40.449> yeah.

00:23:41.412 --> 00:23:48.782
Um,<00:23:42.873> we<00:23:43.034> have<00:23:43.194> not<00:23:43.596> deployed<00:23:44.142> AI<00:23:44.800> in<00:23:44.880> terms<00:23:45.201> of<00:23:45.282> screening<00:23:45.843> deals<00:23:46.630> or,<00:23:47.674> um,<00:23:48.316> in<00:23:48.396> that<00:23:48.589> sense.

00:23:48.830 --> 00:23:52.426
Like,<00:23:49.039> I<00:23:49.135> don't—<00:23:49.440> some<00:23:49.617> funds<00:23:50.098> do<00:23:50.195> that,<00:23:50.500> and<00:23:50.660> particularly<00:23:50.901> public<00:23:51.222> equity<00:23:51.720> investors<00:23:52.105> do<00:23:52.202> that.

00:23:52.972 --> 00:23:57.291
Uh,<00:23:53.213> we<00:23:53.310> have<00:23:53.390> chosen<00:23:53.791> not<00:23:54.096> to<00:23:54.193> do<00:23:54.353> that<00:23:54.755> because<00:23:55.541> of<00:23:55.798> where<00:23:55.959> we<00:23:56.264> are<00:23:56.521> in<00:23:56.601> our<00:23:56.762> category.

00:23:57.805 --> 00:24:00.888
This<00:23:57.886> space<00:23:58.367> of<00:23:58.592> aging<00:23:58.769> and<00:23:58.833> longevity<00:23:59.395> is<00:23:59.491> quite<00:23:59.732> a<00:23:59.748> new<00:24:00.053> space<00:24:00.374> of<00:24:00.455> investing.

00:24:00.936 --> 00:24:02.815
There's<00:24:01.081> only<00:24:01.241> a<00:24:01.322> couple<00:24:01.546> of<00:24:01.578> funds<00:24:01.964> focused<00:24:02.221> on<00:24:02.301> it<00:24:02.381> like<00:24:02.542> we<00:24:02.767> are.

00:24:03.569 --> 00:24:07.853
Um,<00:24:03.907> and<00:24:04.003> so<00:24:04.613> I've<00:24:04.774> always<00:24:04.950> taken<00:24:05.191> them<00:24:05.271> in<00:24:05.352> mentality<00:24:05.993> of<00:24:06.474> take<00:24:06.715> the<00:24:06.795> call,<00:24:07.180> take<00:24:07.420> the<00:24:07.516> meeting.

00:24:08.318 --> 00:24:17.122
Like<00:24:08.463> I<00:24:08.639> don't<00:24:08.863> want<00:24:09.008> to<00:24:09.056> be<00:24:09.184> screened<00:24:09.842> out<00:24:10.018> of<00:24:10.227> things<00:24:11.285> because<00:24:11.750> we're<00:24:12.007> in<00:24:12.167> a<00:24:12.327> learning<00:24:13.434> and<00:24:13.835> a<00:24:14.011> kind<00:24:14.252> of<00:24:14.396> collaboration<00:24:15.214> mode<00:24:15.390> of<00:24:15.454> where<00:24:15.615> we<00:24:15.919> are<00:24:16.481> in<00:24:16.561> our<00:24:16.673> sector.

00:24:17.555 --> 00:24:20.137
So<00:24:17.940> we<00:24:18.084> haven't<00:24:18.341> deployed<00:24:18.886> AI<00:24:19.303> against<00:24:19.624> the<00:24:19.704> screening.

00:24:20.490 --> 00:24:35.868
Where<00:24:20.586> we<00:24:20.890> are<00:24:21.131> using<00:24:21.468> AI<00:24:22.173> is<00:24:22.590> because<00:24:23.055> we<00:24:23.136> are<00:24:23.216> one<00:24:23.328> of<00:24:23.392> the<00:24:23.472> first<00:24:23.793> funds<00:24:24.034> to<00:24:24.114> focus<00:24:24.499> on<00:24:24.579> this<00:24:24.755> topic,<00:24:25.942> we<00:24:26.102> believe<00:24:26.583> really<00:24:26.776> strongly<00:24:27.321> that<00:24:27.481> we<00:24:27.561> need<00:24:27.706> a<00:24:27.738> megaphone<00:24:28.668> and<00:24:28.909> we<00:24:29.005> should<00:24:29.566> be<00:24:30.111> out<00:24:30.288> there<00:24:30.544> speaking<00:24:31.170> and<00:24:31.394> writing<00:24:32.693> connecting<00:24:33.238> people<00:24:33.960> and,<00:24:34.201> and<00:24:34.457> really<00:24:34.858> in<00:24:34.922> the<00:24:35.018> thought<00:24:35.259> leadership<00:24:35.740> role.

00:24:36.301 --> 00:24:40.247
In<00:24:36.446> fact,<00:24:36.847> we're<00:24:37.103> as<00:24:37.200> a<00:24:37.248> small<00:24:37.584> firm,<00:24:38.467> you<00:24:38.531> know,<00:24:38.787> we<00:24:38.867> have<00:24:39.044> a<00:24:39.188> PR<00:24:39.573> firm<00:24:39.750> on<00:24:39.894> retainer.

00:24:40.327 --> 00:24:41.498
It's<00:24:40.471> probably<00:24:40.712> why<00:24:40.776> I'm<00:24:40.952> talking<00:24:41.225> to<00:24:41.273> you.

00:24:41.899 --> 00:24:51.264
Uh,<00:24:42.380> and,<00:24:43.021> you<00:24:43.101> know,<00:24:43.422> part<00:24:43.839> of<00:24:43.935> that<00:24:44.160> investment,<00:24:45.026> you<00:24:45.058> know,<00:24:45.603> which<00:24:45.764> is<00:24:45.844> pretty<00:24:46.084> atypical<00:24:46.485> for<00:24:46.646> a<00:24:46.710> fund<00:24:46.950> our<00:24:47.063> size,<00:24:48.153> is<00:24:48.265> because<00:24:48.971> we<00:24:49.516> don't<00:24:49.693> think<00:24:49.869> enough<00:24:50.094> people<00:24:50.270> are<00:24:50.398> thinking<00:24:50.607> about<00:24:50.751> these<00:24:50.976> issues.

00:24:51.377 --> 00:24:59.444
And<00:24:51.473> so<00:24:51.601> I<00:24:51.617> think<00:24:51.922> AI<00:24:52.243> from<00:24:52.403> a<00:24:52.419> content<00:24:52.804> generation<00:24:53.285> standpoint,<00:24:54.344> I<00:24:54.360> mean,<00:24:54.568> it<00:24:54.648> makes<00:24:54.889> it<00:24:54.969> just<00:24:55.210> a<00:24:55.306> lot<00:24:55.546> faster<00:24:56.172> for<00:24:56.428> us<00:24:56.589> to<00:24:56.733> have<00:24:56.990> those<00:24:57.455> fact<00:24:58.112> data<00:24:58.353> points,<00:24:58.818> examples.

00:24:59.540 --> 00:25:03.487
And<00:25:00.038> so,<00:25:00.198> you<00:25:00.278> know,<00:25:00.760> from<00:25:00.984> a<00:25:01.161> content<00:25:01.562> generation,<00:25:02.525> it<00:25:02.605> has<00:25:02.765> been<00:25:02.910> fantastic.

00:25:04.129 --> 00:25:07.338
Then<00:25:04.289> in<00:25:04.354> terms<00:25:04.594> of<00:25:04.674> our<00:25:04.771> portfolio,<00:25:05.589> I<00:25:05.653> mean,<00:25:05.814> most<00:25:06.054> of<00:25:06.118> our<00:25:06.375> companies<00:25:06.840> use<00:25:07.017> AI.

00:25:07.819 --> 00:25:16.050
And<00:25:07.883> I'm<00:25:07.979> not<00:25:08.381> belittling<00:25:08.942> its<00:25:09.103> impact,<00:25:10.065> but<00:25:10.242> it's<00:25:10.386> kind<00:25:10.627> of<00:25:10.707> like<00:25:10.932> asking<00:25:11.670> as<00:25:11.830> a<00:25:11.894> company<00:25:12.231> to<00:25:12.311> use<00:25:12.536> Excel<00:25:13.579> or,<00:25:13.819> you<00:25:13.852> know,<00:25:14.140> are<00:25:14.301> using<00:25:14.573> Salesforce<00:25:15.199> for<00:25:15.344> your<00:25:15.424> sales<00:25:15.745> process.

00:25:16.162 --> 00:25:23.285
Like,<00:25:17.766> AI<00:25:18.248> is<00:25:18.472> just<00:25:19.114> a<00:25:19.274> layer,<00:25:19.531> or<00:25:19.708> not<00:25:19.836> even<00:25:20.012> layer,<00:25:20.269> it's<00:25:20.413> just<00:25:20.718> integrated<00:25:21.296> into<00:25:21.697> the<00:25:21.857> technology<00:25:22.499> stack<00:25:22.820> and<00:25:22.884> how<00:25:22.964> you<00:25:23.141> do<00:25:23.173> things.

00:25:24.024 --> 00:25:30.013
But<00:25:24.201> the<00:25:24.281> specific<00:25:24.891> examples<00:25:25.469> where<00:25:25.630> it's<00:25:25.790> been<00:25:26.015> working<00:25:26.513> very<00:25:26.834> well<00:25:27.059> for<00:25:27.219> our<00:25:27.299> companies<00:25:27.797> are<00:25:27.958> things<00:25:28.279> like,<00:25:28.905> you<00:25:28.937> know,<00:25:29.146> workflow<00:25:29.563> automation.

00:25:31.073 --> 00:25:32.775
You<00:25:31.153> know,<00:25:31.651> that's<00:25:31.827> an<00:25:32.036> obvious<00:25:32.438> point.

00:25:33.256 --> 00:25:53.375
The<00:25:33.353> diagnostic<00:25:34.059> piece<00:25:34.220> I<00:25:34.300> already<00:25:34.557> spoke<00:25:34.942> to,<00:25:35.264> you<00:25:35.344> know,<00:25:35.825> we<00:25:35.906> have<00:25:36.002> a<00:25:36.131> company<00:25:36.387> called<00:25:36.693> Isaac<00:25:36.949> Health<00:25:37.415> in<00:25:37.511> the<00:25:37.736> dementia<00:25:38.073> care<00:25:38.298> space,<00:25:39.197> and<00:25:39.278> they're<00:25:39.519> able<00:25:39.759> to<00:25:39.984> take<00:25:40.321> data<00:25:40.642> from<00:25:41.188> health<00:25:41.510> plans<00:25:42.473> and<00:25:42.650> basically<00:25:43.195> use<00:25:43.436> AI<00:25:44.095> to<00:25:44.335> find<00:25:44.721> the—<00:25:45.219> basically<00:25:45.620> based<00:25:45.861> on<00:25:45.941> the<00:25:46.021> criteria,<00:25:46.744> just<00:25:47.065> to<00:25:47.226> identify<00:25:47.932> which<00:25:48.414> health<00:25:48.590> plan<00:25:48.719> members<00:25:48.880> members<00:25:49.397> should<00:25:49.720> be<00:25:49.866> getting<00:25:50.060> a<00:25:50.125> dementia<00:25:50.513> diagnostic<00:25:51.661> because<00:25:52.308> of<00:25:52.453> their<00:25:52.550> past<00:25:52.874> health<00:25:53.100> history.

00:25:54.070 --> 00:25:57.353
And<00:25:54.151> so<00:25:54.410> there<00:25:54.556> can<00:25:54.653> be<00:25:54.814> interventions<00:25:55.623> or<00:25:55.704> diagnostics<00:25:56.674> based<00:25:56.916> on<00:25:57.078> AI.

00:25:57.482 --> 00:26:00.355
So<00:25:57.644> that's<00:25:57.887> an<00:25:58.048> interesting<00:25:58.388> space,<00:25:59.006> um,<00:25:59.819> a,<00:25:59.997> as<00:26:00.225> well.

00:26:00.485 --> 00:26:05.328
And<00:26:00.566> then<00:26:00.729> an,<00:26:01.200> uh,<00:26:01.314> another<00:26:01.850> area<00:26:02.663> that<00:26:02.760> we<00:26:02.988> really<00:26:03.264> like<00:26:03.800> is,<00:26:04.288> um,<00:26:04.548> in<00:26:04.711> care<00:26:04.954> planning.

00:26:05.960 --> 00:26:14.869
So<00:26:06.235> one<00:26:06.413> of<00:26:06.559> the<00:26:06.640> challenges,<00:26:07.758> um,<00:26:08.033> for<00:26:09.863> an<00:26:10.673> older<00:26:10.851> adult,<00:26:11.564> um,<00:26:12.050> is<00:26:12.147> that,<00:26:12.536> you<00:26:12.617> know,<00:26:12.698> they're<00:26:12.941> on,<00:26:13.524> you<00:26:13.556> know,<00:26:13.832> an<00:26:13.994> average<00:26:14.269> of<00:26:14.399> 10<00:26:14.577> medications.

00:26:15.400 --> 00:26:25.331
They<00:26:15.500> have<00:26:15.684> a<00:26:15.834> lot<00:26:16.035> of<00:26:16.252> specific<00:26:16.770> needs<00:26:17.021> they<00:26:17.104> need<00:26:17.272> to<00:26:17.422> do<00:26:17.589> during<00:26:17.800> the<00:26:17.896> day,<00:26:18.697> how<00:26:18.953> can<00:26:19.098> you<00:26:19.258> use<00:26:19.578> AI<00:26:19.979> to<00:26:20.155> take<00:26:20.700> all<00:26:20.860> the<00:26:20.956> different<00:26:21.261> things<00:26:21.421> they<00:26:21.501> should<00:26:21.661> be<00:26:21.758> doing<00:26:21.982> during<00:26:22.158> the<00:26:22.238> day<00:26:22.479> and<00:26:22.559> put<00:26:22.799> it<00:26:22.879> into<00:26:23.120> a<00:26:23.184> calendar<00:26:23.584> and<00:26:23.665> a<00:26:23.681> schedule<00:26:24.081> and<00:26:24.241> prompts<00:26:24.642> and<00:26:24.786> this<00:26:24.963> and<00:26:25.043> that?

00:26:25.700 --> 00:26:31.885
So<00:26:25.828> there's<00:26:25.988> kind<00:26:26.084> of<00:26:26.180> a<00:26:26.309> data<00:26:26.485> assimilation<00:26:27.270> role,<00:26:28.152> um,<00:26:28.648> that<00:26:29.193> AI<00:26:29.530> can<00:26:29.770> play,<00:26:30.716> um,<00:26:31.533> as<00:26:31.757> well.

00:26:32.030 --> 00:26:34.433
So,<00:26:32.558> you<00:26:32.590> know,<00:26:32.799> we're<00:26:33.135> seeing<00:26:33.456> it<00:26:33.552> across<00:26:33.937> the<00:26:34.097> board.

00:26:34.898 --> 00:26:41.885
I<00:26:34.978> will<00:26:35.443> kind<00:26:35.619> of<00:26:35.763> share<00:26:36.180> that,<00:26:37.125> um,<00:26:37.606> we<00:26:37.702> have<00:26:37.943> a<00:26:38.023> bit<00:26:38.167> of<00:26:38.263> a<00:26:38.407> joke<00:26:39.064> right<00:26:39.321> now<00:26:39.705> because<00:26:40.010> there's<00:26:40.170> just<00:26:40.266> been<00:26:40.443> so<00:26:40.891> many<00:26:41.212> AI<00:26:41.404> startups.

00:26:41.949 --> 00:26:44.964
And<00:26:42.013> the<00:26:42.093> reason<00:26:42.285> why<00:26:42.430> there<00:26:42.574> are<00:26:42.814> AI<00:26:42.926> startups<00:26:43.391> is<00:26:43.937> It's<00:26:44.033> a<00:26:44.113> wonderful<00:26:44.434> technology.

00:26:45.061 --> 00:26:46.072
It's<00:26:45.173> available<00:26:45.574> to<00:26:45.719> everyone.

00:26:46.522 --> 00:26:52.800
So<00:26:47.325> if<00:26:47.485> you're<00:26:48.288> a<00:26:48.352> founder<00:26:48.914> or<00:26:48.946> an<00:26:49.075> entrepreneur<00:26:49.508> saying,<00:26:49.797> I<00:26:49.829> want<00:26:49.958> to<00:26:50.038> build<00:26:50.151> a<00:26:50.279> business,<00:26:51.644> it's<00:26:52.222> like<00:26:52.447> an<00:26:52.527> API.

00:26:53.025 --> 00:26:54.791
Like<00:26:53.250> you<00:26:53.346> can<00:26:53.490> just<00:26:53.747> build<00:26:54.293> faster.

00:26:55.112 --> 00:27:05.099
And<00:26:55.192> so<00:26:55.337> the<00:26:55.578> number<00:26:55.835> of<00:26:55.915> businesses<00:26:56.236> we're<00:26:56.332> seeing,<00:26:56.637> so<00:26:56.718> we<00:26:56.798> kind<00:26:56.975> of<00:26:57.039> have<00:26:57.183> an<00:26:57.264> internal<00:26:57.745> joke<00:26:58.083> of<00:26:58.227> like<00:26:58.950> whether<00:26:59.271> we're<00:26:59.367> going<00:26:59.463> to<00:26:59.592> try<00:26:59.720> to<00:27:00.009> discount<00:27:00.571> because,<00:27:00.732> you<00:27:00.812> know,<00:27:00.909> the<00:27:01.198> people<00:27:01.454> who<00:27:01.535> come<00:27:01.776> in<00:27:01.952> and<00:27:02.032> they<00:27:02.177> talk<00:27:02.418> about<00:27:02.594> the<00:27:02.803> AI<00:27:03.060> and<00:27:03.205> their<00:27:03.301> products,<00:27:03.702> they<00:27:03.847> expect<00:27:04.200> a<00:27:04.264> valuation<00:27:04.810> increase.

00:27:05.790 --> 00:27:11.487
We<00:27:06.015> are<00:27:06.271> like,<00:27:06.593> you<00:27:06.689> know,<00:27:06.833> trying<00:27:07.010> to<00:27:07.090> figure<00:27:07.299> out<00:27:07.379> how<00:27:07.540> we,<00:27:09.482> ding<00:27:09.723> them<00:27:09.963> for<00:27:10.188> using<00:27:10.444> AI<00:27:10.990> the<00:27:11.150> other<00:27:11.246> way.

00:27:11.807 --> 00:27:13.395
That's<00:27:13.154> awesome.

00:27:13.812 --> 00:27:15.431
Yeah,<00:27:14.117> everybody's<00:27:14.614> an<00:27:14.758> AI<00:27:14.950> startup<00:27:15.399> now.

00:27:15.576 --> 00:27:16.137
You<00:27:15.672> have<00:27:15.896> to<00:27:15.977> be.

00:27:16.602 --> 00:27:19.184
You've<00:27:16.698> got<00:27:16.843> to<00:27:16.923> have<00:27:17.324> AI<00:27:17.580> somewhere<00:27:18.061> in<00:27:18.141> your<00:27:18.302> pitch,<00:27:18.606> it<00:27:18.638> seems<00:27:19.007> like.

00:27:19.488 --> 00:27:19.681
Yeah.

00:27:19.809 --> 00:27:27.538
Otherwise,<00:27:21.092> you<00:27:21.172> know,<00:27:21.348> that<00:27:21.653> really<00:27:21.910> is<00:27:22.054> kind<00:27:22.166> of<00:27:22.295> table<00:27:22.551> stakes,<00:27:22.872> probably<00:27:23.177> like<00:27:23.417> an<00:27:23.497> API<00:27:24.235> or<00:27:24.395> cloud<00:27:24.892> in<00:27:25.037> the<00:27:25.117> past<00:27:25.678> or<00:27:26.239> internet<00:27:27.025> even,<00:27:27.346> right?

00:27:27.602 --> 00:27:29.094
Like<00:27:27.779> it's<00:27:28.083> kind<00:27:28.244> of<00:27:28.324> just<00:27:28.484> table<00:27:28.805> stakes.

00:27:29.206 --> 00:27:29.943
This<00:27:29.350> is<00:27:29.446> table<00:27:29.703> stakes.

00:27:30.649 --> 00:27:39.056
You<00:27:30.697> got<00:27:30.761> to<00:27:30.793> have<00:27:30.954> some<00:27:31.146> sort<00:27:31.451> of—<00:27:31.771> hey,<00:27:31.932> what<00:27:32.044> did<00:27:32.172> you<00:27:32.397> learn<00:27:32.637> from<00:27:33.840> Arianna<00:27:34.337> Huffington<00:27:35.379> and<00:27:35.684> helping<00:27:36.727> and<00:27:37.611> running<00:27:37.932> Thrive<00:27:38.333> Global<00:27:38.655> with<00:27:38.896> her?

00:27:40.502 --> 00:27:41.048
She's<00:27:40.694> amazing.

00:27:41.321 --> 00:27:48.469
Like,<00:27:41.546> she's—<00:27:42.429> what<00:27:42.686> an<00:27:42.831> amazing,<00:27:43.794> you<00:27:43.827> know,<00:27:44.051> founder,<00:27:44.678> leader,<00:27:45.642> author,<00:27:46.605> woman,<00:27:48.212> mother.

00:27:48.774 --> 00:27:50.300
You<00:27:48.870> know,<00:27:49.031> she's<00:27:49.272> just—<00:27:49.513> she's<00:27:49.753> fantastic.

00:27:50.621 --> 00:27:52.291
I<00:27:51.360> think<00:27:51.520> I<00:27:51.585> learned<00:27:51.761> a<00:27:51.826> few<00:27:52.002> things.

00:27:53.753 --> 00:28:00.403
One<00:27:54.251> is<00:27:55.279> she—<00:27:56.178> and<00:27:56.243> maybe<00:27:56.355> it's<00:27:56.484> a<00:27:56.516> Ray<00:27:56.660> Dalio<00:27:57.062> thing<00:27:57.303> as<00:27:57.447> well—<00:27:57.624> that<00:27:57.736> she<00:27:57.945> was<00:27:58.090> a<00:27:58.170> believer,<00:27:58.668> you<00:27:58.748> know,<00:27:58.909> this<00:27:59.070> kind<00:27:59.230> of<00:27:59.310> radical<00:27:59.696> transparency.

00:28:01.880 --> 00:28:11.615
And<00:28:02.025> I<00:28:02.170> I<00:28:02.186> think<00:28:02.378> it's<00:28:02.522> interesting<00:28:02.779> having<00:28:02.923> started<00:28:03.100> my<00:28:03.244> career<00:28:03.452> at<00:28:03.484> McKinsey,<00:28:04.206> where<00:28:04.607> as<00:28:04.751> a<00:28:04.831> consultant<00:28:05.409> you<00:28:05.553> want<00:28:05.697> to<00:28:05.730> make<00:28:05.906> sure<00:28:06.114> you<00:28:06.211> have<00:28:06.371> the<00:28:06.531> data<00:28:06.836> and<00:28:06.932> the<00:28:07.012> right<00:28:07.173> way<00:28:07.333> of<00:28:07.413> saying<00:28:07.894> things<00:28:08.279> and,<00:28:09.001> you<00:28:09.081> know,<00:28:09.722> uh,<00:28:10.444> making<00:28:10.717> your<00:28:10.861> pitch<00:28:11.102> in<00:28:11.166> your<00:28:11.342> case.

00:28:12.224 --> 00:28:21.092
I<00:28:12.304> think<00:28:12.465> Arianna<00:28:12.850> is<00:28:13.170> very<00:28:13.491> much<00:28:14.629> about,<00:28:15.495> uh,<00:28:15.977> being<00:28:16.153> direct,<00:28:17.259> um,<00:28:17.596> in<00:28:17.692> a<00:28:17.837> way<00:28:18.061> that<00:28:18.141> was<00:28:18.382> very<00:28:18.622> helpful<00:28:18.975> for<00:28:19.200> me,<00:28:19.745> um,<00:28:20.082> to<00:28:20.242> see<00:28:20.402> that<00:28:20.627> modeled.

00:28:21.766 --> 00:28:23.818
I<00:28:21.910> think<00:28:22.070> the<00:28:22.150> second<00:28:22.567> thing<00:28:22.808> is<00:28:22.952> just<00:28:23.129> generosity.

00:28:24.315 --> 00:28:34.867
Um,<00:28:24.893> you<00:28:24.989> know,<00:28:25.213> she<00:28:25.694> has<00:28:26.015> built<00:28:26.400> a<00:28:26.480> career,<00:28:26.961> and,<00:28:27.138> and,<00:28:27.522> and<00:28:27.763> I<00:28:27.859> think<00:28:28.084> I'm<00:28:28.180> naturally<00:28:28.918> oriented<00:28:29.286> that<00:28:29.447> way,<00:28:30.169> but<00:28:30.281> this<00:28:30.489> sense<00:28:30.746> of<00:28:31.227> be<00:28:31.371> generous<00:28:32.013> with<00:28:32.253> your<00:28:32.414> connections,<00:28:32.911> be<00:28:32.991> generous<00:28:33.376> with<00:28:33.472> your<00:28:33.633> insights,<00:28:34.114> with<00:28:34.258> your<00:28:34.434> time.

00:28:35.958 --> 00:28:45.629
And<00:28:36.102> I<00:28:36.279> think<00:28:36.439> that<00:28:36.600> generosity,<00:28:37.883> particularly<00:28:38.380> because<00:28:38.829> most<00:28:39.246> businesses<00:28:40.513> are<00:28:40.673> about<00:28:40.914> relationships,<00:28:42.293> and<00:28:42.437> I<00:28:42.614> think<00:28:42.774> that<00:28:42.934> that<00:28:43.480> is,<00:28:44.041> uh,<00:28:44.682> that<00:28:44.859> is<00:28:45.003> really<00:28:45.244> critical.

00:28:46.543 --> 00:29:01.099
And<00:28:46.623> then<00:28:47.104> I<00:28:47.264> think<00:28:47.425> the<00:28:47.585> last<00:28:47.986> piece,<00:28:48.403> um,<00:28:48.612> I<00:28:48.788> mean,<00:28:48.948> I've<00:28:49.109> learned<00:28:49.285> so<00:28:49.413> much<00:28:49.542> from<00:28:49.670> her,<00:28:49.975> but,<00:28:50.536> you<00:28:50.568> know,<00:28:50.648> she's,<00:28:51.418> as<00:28:51.739> an<00:28:52.140> author<00:28:52.717> and<00:28:52.877> as<00:28:53.343> a<00:28:53.503> media<00:28:53.824> personality,<00:28:55.106> She,<00:28:56.388> when<00:28:56.468> we<00:28:56.548> started<00:28:56.869> Thrive,<00:28:57.366> she<00:28:57.910> had<00:28:58.167> very<00:28:58.551> clear<00:28:59.289> language<00:29:00.250> on<00:29:00.314> what<00:29:00.474> the<00:29:00.570> business<00:29:00.955> was.

00:29:01.756 --> 00:29:12.236
And<00:29:02.237> you<00:29:02.317> would<00:29:02.654> be<00:29:02.958> rare<00:29:03.279> to<00:29:03.375> find<00:29:03.759> her<00:29:04.320> not<00:29:04.817> using<00:29:05.137> that<00:29:05.314> same<00:29:05.682> language,<00:29:06.019> those<00:29:06.259> like<00:29:06.419> 4<00:29:06.740> sentences<00:29:08.022> again<00:29:08.406> and<00:29:08.518> again<00:29:09.464> to<00:29:09.768> build<00:29:10.009> awareness<00:29:10.986> and<00:29:11.066> to<00:29:11.162> hammer<00:29:11.707> in<00:29:11.868> the<00:29:11.948> point.

00:29:12.813 --> 00:29:16.162
And<00:29:12.909> I<00:29:13.133> think<00:29:13.374> that's,<00:29:13.855> you<00:29:13.887> know,<00:29:14.031> as<00:29:14.111> a<00:29:14.127> marketer,<00:29:15.056> that's<00:29:15.457> really<00:29:15.793> important.

00:29:16.434 --> 00:29:20.793
And<00:29:16.547> so<00:29:16.739> at<00:29:16.979> Primetime,<00:29:17.636> we've<00:29:17.941> just<00:29:19.078> really<00:29:19.335> stuck<00:29:19.735> to<00:29:19.880> the<00:29:19.960> script<00:29:20.440> in<00:29:20.521> a<00:29:20.601> way.

00:29:21.242 --> 00:29:28.827
Of<00:29:21.466> what<00:29:21.643> we're<00:29:21.723> trying<00:29:22.124> to<00:29:22.204> get<00:29:22.364> the<00:29:22.509> world<00:29:22.685> to<00:29:22.845> understand<00:29:23.487> about<00:29:24.369> why<00:29:24.529> they<00:29:24.690> need<00:29:24.850> to<00:29:25.395> be<00:29:25.491> prepared<00:29:25.876> for<00:29:26.438> and<00:29:26.790> invest<00:29:27.239> in<00:29:27.560> and<00:29:27.640> care<00:29:27.881> about<00:29:28.041> an<00:29:28.121> aging<00:29:28.378> population.

00:29:29.276 --> 00:29:33.061
So<00:29:29.404> I<00:29:29.420> think<00:29:29.517> that<00:29:29.661> thought<00:29:29.886> leadership<00:29:30.302> piece,<00:29:31.024> I<00:29:31.185> literally<00:29:31.986> just<00:29:32.227> learned<00:29:32.387> so<00:29:32.483> much<00:29:32.660> from<00:29:32.772> her<00:29:32.933> about.

00:29:34.552 --> 00:29:35.162
What<00:29:34.664> do<00:29:34.777> you<00:29:34.873> read?

00:29:35.434 --> 00:29:37.439
What<00:29:35.659> reading<00:29:35.915> recommendations<00:29:36.621> would<00:29:36.717> you<00:29:36.861> have<00:29:37.102> for<00:29:37.198> us?

00:29:38.882 --> 00:29:41.031
You<00:29:38.978> know,<00:29:39.844> I<00:29:39.925> knew<00:29:39.989> you<00:29:40.053> were<00:29:40.165> going<00:29:40.261> to<00:29:40.390> ask<00:29:40.630> me<00:29:40.726> that.

00:29:41.368 --> 00:29:47.061
And<00:29:41.512> I,<00:29:42.186> so<00:29:42.715> I<00:29:42.811> was<00:29:43.036> thinking<00:29:43.292> about,<00:29:43.517> you<00:29:43.549> know,<00:29:43.613> how<00:29:43.805> do<00:29:43.870> I<00:29:43.934> sound<00:29:44.335> really<00:29:44.575> smart,<00:29:45.377> but<00:29:45.441> I'm<00:29:45.521> going<00:29:45.601> to<00:29:45.634> be<00:29:45.922> really<00:29:46.323> realistic.

00:29:47.708 --> 00:29:50.084
Which<00:29:47.936> is<00:29:48.294> I'm<00:29:48.456> a<00:29:48.522> full-time<00:29:48.929> working<00:29:49.238> mom<00:29:49.482> with<00:29:49.580> 3<00:29:49.824> kids.

00:29:50.133 --> 00:29:50.687
I<00:29:50.215> run<00:29:50.312> my<00:29:50.459> own<00:29:50.556> business.

00:29:52.165 --> 00:29:57.724
Like,<00:29:53.607> I,<00:29:54.758> I<00:29:55.325> read<00:29:55.633> books<00:29:56.038> on<00:29:56.136> vacation<00:29:56.703> when<00:29:56.865> I<00:29:56.946> go<00:29:57.189> on<00:29:57.270> vacation.

00:29:57.999 --> 00:30:03.581
And<00:29:58.064> when<00:29:58.178> I'm<00:29:58.470> on<00:29:58.551> vacation,<00:29:59.726> I<00:29:59.806> will<00:29:59.984> go<00:30:00.145> to<00:30:00.210> my<00:30:00.387> friend<00:30:00.726> Zibby<00:30:01.032> Owens<00:30:01.355> who<00:30:01.516> runs<00:30:01.758> Read<00:30:01.920> with<00:30:01.984> Zibby<00:30:02.323> and<00:30:02.404> find<00:30:02.662> something<00:30:02.968> light<00:30:03.210> to<00:30:03.355> read.

00:30:04.646 --> 00:30:08.905
But<00:30:04.743> what<00:30:04.904> I<00:30:05.049> do<00:30:05.211> every<00:30:05.469> day<00:30:06.420> is<00:30:07.647> I<00:30:07.727> ask<00:30:07.985> Alexa<00:30:08.437> for<00:30:08.534> the<00:30:08.614> news.

00:30:09.179 --> 00:30:09.993
She's<00:30:09.421> my<00:30:09.470> best<00:30:09.666> friend.

00:30:10.565 --> 00:30:13.902
We<00:30:10.647> talk<00:30:10.991> in<00:30:11.056> the<00:30:11.138> morning<00:30:11.531> when<00:30:11.645> I'm<00:30:12.038> in<00:30:12.119> the,<00:30:12.708> in<00:30:12.790> the<00:30:12.872> shower<00:30:13.346> and<00:30:13.510> out<00:30:13.608> of<00:30:13.673> the<00:30:13.755> shower.

00:30:14.838 --> 00:30:19.257
I<00:30:14.870> subscribe<00:30:15.561> to<00:30:15.722> a<00:30:16.043> lot<00:30:16.300> of<00:30:16.380> newsletters,<00:30:17.168> usually<00:30:17.505> at<00:30:17.650> the<00:30:17.730> fringe<00:30:18.212> of<00:30:18.309> what<00:30:18.469> I<00:30:18.614> do<00:30:18.726> for<00:30:18.935> work.

00:30:19.691 --> 00:30:27.387
So,<00:30:20.478> you<00:30:20.558> know,<00:30:21.040> business<00:30:21.362> newsletters,<00:30:22.390> um,<00:30:23.113> or<00:30:23.209> newsletters<00:30:23.675> of<00:30:23.756> other<00:30:23.997> venture<00:30:24.254> investors<00:30:25.202> that<00:30:25.523> are<00:30:26.102> adjacent<00:30:26.664> to<00:30:26.825> what<00:30:26.985> I<00:30:27.146> do.

00:30:27.950 --> 00:30:38.201
And<00:30:28.110> then<00:30:28.737> my<00:30:28.994> secret<00:30:29.396> little<00:30:29.621> hack<00:30:29.894> is,<00:30:30.440> you<00:30:30.520> know,<00:30:30.681> if<00:30:30.761> you<00:30:30.906> follow<00:30:31.629> any,<00:30:32.208> as<00:30:32.368> I<00:30:32.384> said,<00:30:32.674> venture<00:30:32.931> funds,<00:30:33.332> nonprofits,<00:30:34.055> anything<00:30:34.361> kind<00:30:34.521> of<00:30:34.618> in<00:30:34.778> and<00:30:34.843> around<00:30:35.052> my<00:30:35.116> space,<00:30:36.209> they'll<00:30:36.385> usually<00:30:36.691> have<00:30:36.803> in<00:30:36.867> their<00:30:36.964> newsletter<00:30:37.574> what<00:30:37.735> we're<00:30:37.912> reading.

00:30:38.940 --> 00:30:41.703
And<00:30:39.020> so<00:30:39.181> I<00:30:39.358> like<00:30:39.583> to<00:30:39.760> read<00:30:40.017> the<00:30:40.242> the<00:30:40.466> primary<00:30:41.109> reports.

00:30:42.168 --> 00:30:55.011
Like<00:30:42.489> if<00:30:42.634> it's<00:30:42.810> a<00:30:42.891> report<00:30:43.934> by<00:30:44.656> the<00:30:44.881> Kaiser<00:30:45.218> Foundation<00:30:46.166> on<00:30:46.647> family<00:30:46.888> caregiving<00:30:48.012> or<00:30:48.253> by<00:30:49.071> the<00:30:49.216> West<00:30:49.473> Health<00:30:50.019> or<00:30:50.115> CMS<00:30:50.902> or<00:30:51.239> government<00:30:51.704> reports,<00:30:52.587> I<00:30:52.667> kind<00:30:52.940> of<00:30:53.069> like<00:30:53.261> to<00:30:53.470> read<00:30:53.647> the<00:30:53.791> primary<00:30:54.225> source<00:30:54.610> data.

00:30:55.509 --> 00:31:09.718
So<00:30:55.910> it's<00:30:56.039> a<00:30:56.055> long-winded<00:30:56.617> way<00:30:56.761> of<00:30:56.842> saying<00:30:57.259> I<00:30:57.500> read<00:30:57.724> a<00:30:57.741> lot<00:30:57.981> of<00:30:58.142> work<00:30:58.383> stuff,<00:30:59.346> but<00:30:59.506> I<00:30:59.667> try<00:31:00.068> for<00:31:00.245> the<00:31:00.470> work<00:31:01.738> information<00:31:02.300> to<00:31:02.396> either<00:31:02.621> be<00:31:03.199> new<00:31:03.424> data<00:31:03.664> and<00:31:03.841> insights<00:31:04.869> or<00:31:05.109> other<00:31:05.350> people's<00:31:05.623> opinions<00:31:06.153> that<00:31:06.410> are<00:31:07.309> adjacent<00:31:08.321> or<00:31:08.417> a<00:31:08.481> little<00:31:08.642> bit<00:31:08.819> further<00:31:09.060> away<00:31:09.301> from<00:31:09.526> me.

00:31:10.248 --> 00:31:22.600
Um,<00:31:10.666> the<00:31:10.827> last<00:31:11.389> thing<00:31:11.871> I<00:31:12.015> would<00:31:12.128> say<00:31:12.593> that<00:31:12.754> I,<00:31:13.316> I<00:31:13.461> do<00:31:13.718> read—<00:31:13.878> I<00:31:13.959> don't<00:31:14.135> know<00:31:14.200> if<00:31:14.585> reading<00:31:14.858> is<00:31:14.987> the<00:31:15.019> right<00:31:15.228> way<00:31:15.485> because<00:31:16.191> right<00:31:16.432> now<00:31:16.689> it's<00:31:16.786> about<00:31:17.010> watching—<00:31:17.476> is<00:31:18.135> I<00:31:18.215> don't<00:31:18.376> go<00:31:18.456> on<00:31:18.552> social<00:31:18.842> media<00:31:19.082> a<00:31:19.099> lot,<00:31:19.580> but<00:31:19.725> what<00:31:19.902> is<00:31:20.046> on<00:31:20.126> my<00:31:20.159> social<00:31:20.544> media<00:31:21.171> channel<00:31:22.070> are<00:31:22.134> comedians.

00:31:23.596 --> 00:31:26.712
And<00:31:24.383> laughter<00:31:25.748> is<00:31:25.845> so<00:31:26.326> important.

00:31:27.290 --> 00:31:32.639
And<00:31:27.435> so<00:31:28.077> if<00:31:28.559> I<00:31:28.736> need<00:31:29.041> to,<00:31:29.202> like,<00:31:29.475> if<00:31:29.603> I<00:31:29.683> have<00:31:29.940> a<00:31:29.957> little<00:31:30.262> bit<00:31:30.422> of<00:31:30.503> downtime,<00:31:31.450> it's<00:31:31.707> like<00:31:32.269> comedy.

00:31:33.473 --> 00:31:34.259
Like,<00:31:33.858> all<00:31:33.954> the<00:31:34.034> way.

00:31:35.461 --> 00:31:36.279
I<00:31:35.622> love<00:31:35.798> that<00:31:35.959> answer.

00:31:36.375 --> 00:31:39.166
I'm<00:31:36.600> the—<00:31:36.776> I'm<00:31:36.937> actually<00:31:37.241> the<00:31:37.386> exact<00:31:37.819> same<00:31:38.043> way<00:31:38.364> on<00:31:38.508> that<00:31:38.669> last<00:31:38.989> point.

00:31:39.551 --> 00:31:41.828
Who<00:31:39.647> are<00:31:39.727> some<00:31:39.967> of<00:31:40.064> your,<00:31:40.769> uh,<00:31:41.074> favorite<00:31:41.363> comedians?

00:31:42.597 --> 00:31:45.708
I<00:31:42.613> mean,<00:31:42.774> right<00:31:42.950> now,<00:31:43.511> uh,<00:31:43.720> I'm<00:31:44.121> gonna<00:31:44.233> get<00:31:44.345> his<00:31:44.457> name<00:31:44.602> wrong,<00:31:44.762> like<00:31:44.939> Nate<00:31:45.099> Bargatze.

00:31:46.446 --> 00:31:47.921
Yeah,<00:31:47.312> yeah,<00:31:47.665> he's<00:31:47.793> great.

00:31:48.146 --> 00:31:48.787
He's<00:31:48.386> great.

00:31:48.867 --> 00:32:04.667
And<00:31:49.028> then<00:31:49.268> there's<00:31:49.573> like,<00:31:49.845> again,<00:31:50.150> because<00:31:51.032> Instagram<00:31:51.449> is<00:31:51.529> scary<00:31:52.058> and<00:31:52.155> it<00:31:52.379> knows<00:31:52.700> me—<00:31:52.812> I'm<00:31:52.940> putting<00:31:53.165> in<00:31:53.277> air<00:31:53.325> quotes,<00:31:54.143> um—<00:31:54.800> but<00:31:54.945> there's<00:31:55.185> basically<00:31:55.602> a<00:31:55.618> lot<00:31:55.923> of<00:31:56.003> female,<00:31:56.725> like,<00:31:57.110> mom<00:31:58.088> comedians<00:31:58.954> who<00:31:59.772> you<00:31:59.868> know,<00:32:00.237> just,<00:32:00.735> it's<00:32:00.895> like<00:32:01.120> the<00:32:01.216> Tina<00:32:01.457> Fey<00:32:02.019> and<00:32:02.099> that<00:32:02.564> whole,<00:32:03.367> uh,<00:32:04.330> group.

00:32:04.892 --> 00:32:07.171
Um,<00:32:05.293> Ali,<00:32:05.855> um,<00:32:06.368> I<00:32:06.432> forgot<00:32:06.737> her<00:32:06.769> last<00:32:07.058> name.

00:32:07.941 --> 00:32:18.887
Um,<00:32:09.065> but,<00:32:09.546> uh,<00:32:10.509> where<00:32:10.686> there's<00:32:10.910> just<00:32:11.087> kind<00:32:11.408> of<00:32:11.568> this<00:32:11.793> like<00:32:12.050> reality<00:32:12.997> of<00:32:13.157> like,<00:32:13.960> you<00:32:14.056> know,<00:32:15.164> how<00:32:15.645> hard<00:32:15.966> it<00:32:16.127> is<00:32:16.287> to<00:32:16.319> be<00:32:17.186> a<00:32:17.266> woman<00:32:17.491> in<00:32:17.523> the<00:32:17.587> workplace,<00:32:17.908> how<00:32:17.972> hard<00:32:18.133> it<00:32:18.165> is<00:32:18.245> to<00:32:18.374> be<00:32:18.470> a<00:32:18.534> mom.

00:32:18.935 --> 00:32:20.685
And<00:32:19.738> it's<00:32:19.834> just<00:32:20.059> relatable<00:32:20.396> humor.

00:32:21.744 --> 00:32:22.001
Yeah.

00:32:22.707 --> 00:32:30.925
What<00:32:22.868> are<00:32:22.948> you,<00:32:23.189> what<00:32:23.301> is<00:32:23.445> your<00:32:23.606> thoughts<00:32:24.152> on<00:32:24.874> DEI<00:32:25.757> and<00:32:25.917> kind<00:32:26.254> of<00:32:26.495> the,<00:32:27.121> um,<00:32:27.538> overall<00:32:29.143> I<00:32:29.480> don't<00:32:30.042> know<00:32:30.170> the<00:32:30.267> best<00:32:30.507> way<00:32:30.604> to<00:32:30.684> say<00:32:30.812> it.

00:32:30.989 --> 00:32:32.995
It's<00:32:31.133> become<00:32:31.326> like<00:32:31.470> a<00:32:31.551> controversial<00:32:32.497> topic.

00:32:33.155 --> 00:32:36.253
Like<00:32:33.717> it's<00:32:33.862> being<00:32:34.263> attacked,<00:32:35.065> maybe<00:32:35.322> is<00:32:35.467> the<00:32:35.547> best<00:32:35.723> way<00:32:35.820> to<00:32:35.900> say<00:32:36.125> that.

00:32:36.847 --> 00:32:37.970
What<00:32:36.943> do<00:32:37.152> you<00:32:37.312> think<00:32:37.569> about<00:32:37.810> that?

00:32:38.115 --> 00:32:39.078
How<00:32:38.227> do<00:32:38.356> you<00:32:38.452> think<00:32:38.757> about<00:32:39.014> it?

00:32:39.158 --> 00:32:43.700
And<00:32:39.302> how<00:32:39.415> do<00:32:39.479> you<00:32:39.752> advise<00:32:40.281> your<00:32:41.020> kind<00:32:41.244> of<00:32:41.405> early-stage<00:32:42.047> founders<00:32:42.464> and<00:32:42.609> companies<00:32:43.042> to<00:32:43.251> think<00:32:43.363> about<00:32:43.604> it?

00:32:44.294 --> 00:32:45.144
That's<00:32:44.406> a<00:32:44.470> great<00:32:44.711> question.

00:32:45.899 --> 00:32:52.624
And<00:32:45.995> it's<00:32:46.156> a<00:32:46.300> very<00:32:47.119> sensitive<00:32:47.600> one,<00:32:48.226> I<00:32:48.322> think,<00:32:49.269> but<00:32:49.430> needs<00:32:49.686> to<00:32:49.847> be<00:32:50.007> kind<00:32:50.232> of<00:32:50.328> discussed<00:32:50.954> from<00:32:51.516> a<00:32:51.548> leadership<00:32:52.014> perspective.

00:32:53.458 --> 00:33:01.207
Just<00:32:53.619> to<00:32:53.715> level<00:32:53.972> set,<00:32:54.261> like,<00:32:54.967> all<00:32:55.127> of<00:32:55.239> the<00:32:55.384> data,<00:32:55.705> which<00:32:55.865> I<00:32:56.009> believe<00:32:56.571> is<00:32:56.667> that<00:32:56.988> a<00:32:57.084> diverse<00:32:57.533> workforce,<00:32:58.191> a<00:32:58.255> diverse<00:32:58.592> experience<00:32:59.699> is<00:33:00.276> the<00:33:00.421> right<00:33:00.597> business<00:33:00.854> decision.

00:33:02.426 --> 00:33:04.495
I<00:33:02.667> also<00:33:02.923> believe<00:33:03.180> it's<00:33:03.324> the<00:33:03.405> right<00:33:03.565> societal<00:33:04.127> decision.

00:33:04.945 --> 00:33:06.308
So<00:33:05.314> I'm<00:33:05.506> in<00:33:05.731> favor.

00:33:07.174 --> 00:33:11.474
I<00:33:07.191> mean,<00:33:07.640> I<00:33:07.656> think<00:33:07.896> it'd<00:33:08.025> be<00:33:08.217> really<00:33:08.442> hard<00:33:08.682> if<00:33:08.763> someone<00:33:09.116> came<00:33:09.276> on<00:33:09.356> the<00:33:09.420> show<00:33:09.661> and<00:33:09.725> said<00:33:09.821> they're<00:33:09.982> not<00:33:10.110> in<00:33:10.303> favor<00:33:10.543> of<00:33:10.623> diversity<00:33:11.089> inclusion.

00:33:11.971 --> 00:33:18.051
So,<00:33:12.934> so<00:33:13.094> it's<00:33:13.254> a,<00:33:13.367> it's<00:33:13.671> a,<00:33:13.896> it's<00:33:14.089> an<00:33:14.297> obvious<00:33:14.618> point,<00:33:14.794> but<00:33:15.019> I<00:33:15.179> am,<00:33:15.821> I<00:33:15.853> am<00:33:15.998> a<00:33:16.142> proponent<00:33:16.623> of,<00:33:16.880> of,<00:33:17.281> of<00:33:17.377> diversity<00:33:17.682> inclusion.

00:33:19.126 --> 00:33:38.153
The<00:33:19.286> issue<00:33:19.671> when<00:33:19.767> you<00:33:19.864> say<00:33:20.168> DEI<00:33:20.954> though,<00:33:21.789> is<00:33:21.933> that<00:33:22.110> it<00:33:22.238> has<00:33:22.334> become<00:33:22.799> institutionalized<00:33:25.046> in<00:33:25.206> a<00:33:25.383> way<00:33:26.506> that<00:33:26.746> I<00:33:26.907> think<00:33:27.613> has<00:33:27.869> become,<00:33:28.816> um,<00:33:29.474> so<00:33:30.581> defensive<00:33:32.185> that<00:33:32.346> we've<00:33:32.442> forgotten<00:33:33.148> the<00:33:33.308> point<00:33:33.725> of<00:33:33.806> it,<00:33:34.608> which<00:33:34.848> is<00:33:35.073> actually<00:33:35.811> for<00:33:36.036> people<00:33:36.373> to<00:33:36.597> feel<00:33:37.640> included.

00:33:38.202 --> 00:33:40.031
And<00:33:38.282> that<00:33:38.442> means<00:33:38.859> everybody<00:33:39.421> feels<00:33:39.662> included.

00:33:40.624 --> 00:33:46.769
And<00:33:40.865> now<00:33:41.250> we've<00:33:41.426> basically<00:33:42.052> ended<00:33:42.373> up<00:33:43.416> with<00:33:43.673> a<00:33:43.753> DEI<00:33:44.555> where<00:33:44.956> it's<00:33:45.100> really<00:33:45.758> diversity<00:33:46.240> and<00:33:46.384> exclusion.

00:33:47.363 --> 00:33:48.373
Not<00:33:47.539> diversity<00:33:47.908> and<00:33:48.069> inclusion.

00:33:49.272 --> 00:33:55.497
And<00:33:49.384> so<00:33:50.026> I<00:33:50.154> think<00:33:50.395> that's<00:33:51.053> where<00:33:51.197> we<00:33:51.293> need<00:33:51.438> to<00:33:51.518> get<00:33:51.759> back<00:33:52.352> to<00:33:53.219> basics<00:33:54.326> around<00:33:54.566> what<00:33:54.743> inclusion<00:33:55.224> means.

00:33:55.545 --> 00:33:58.946
And<00:33:55.625> I<00:33:55.705> can<00:33:55.850> even<00:33:56.010> take<00:33:56.267> the,<00:33:56.652> or<00:33:56.748> the<00:33:56.828> population<00:33:57.390> that<00:33:57.534> we<00:33:57.631> care<00:33:57.775> most<00:33:57.967> about,<00:33:58.176> which<00:33:58.272> are<00:33:58.417> older<00:33:58.593> adults.

00:33:59.476 --> 00:34:04.160
Like<00:33:59.941> they're<00:34:00.085> not<00:34:00.422> part<00:34:00.679> of<00:34:00.759> DEI,<00:34:02.363> like<00:34:02.684> they're<00:34:02.845> not<00:34:03.085> included<00:34:03.567> in<00:34:03.727> anything.

00:34:05.396 --> 00:34:07.963
And<00:34:05.492> so<00:34:05.572> there's<00:34:05.732> a<00:34:05.749> lot<00:34:05.989> of<00:34:06.053> populations<00:34:06.631> that<00:34:06.759> are<00:34:06.920> excluded<00:34:07.417> from<00:34:07.577> DEI.

00:34:08.059 --> 00:34:09.455
So<00:34:08.620> what<00:34:08.733> do<00:34:08.781> I<00:34:08.941> think<00:34:09.118> about<00:34:09.342> it?

00:34:09.647 --> 00:34:19.616
I<00:34:09.824> think<00:34:10.048> it,<00:34:10.321> if<00:34:10.385> we<00:34:10.529> can<00:34:10.626> get<00:34:10.850> back<00:34:11.107> to<00:34:11.187> the<00:34:11.332> intent,<00:34:13.675> and<00:34:13.980> deliver<00:34:14.462> on<00:34:14.622> it<00:34:14.879> in<00:34:15.023> ways<00:34:15.280> that<00:34:15.425> are<00:34:16.244> not<00:34:16.581> exclusionary,<00:34:17.914> that<00:34:18.411> would<00:34:18.813> be<00:34:19.198> wonderful.

00:34:20.419 --> 00:34:25.139
In<00:34:20.499> terms<00:34:20.756> of<00:34:20.820> how<00:34:21.061> we're<00:34:21.446> working<00:34:21.767> on<00:34:21.880> it,<00:34:22.024> I<00:34:22.040> mean,<00:34:22.169> we<00:34:22.233> have<00:34:22.345> a<00:34:22.442> super<00:34:22.811> diverse<00:34:23.068> team<00:34:23.774> of<00:34:23.855> our<00:34:24.513> investments.

00:34:25.701 --> 00:34:36.427
You<00:34:25.749> know,<00:34:25.942> half<00:34:26.199> the<00:34:26.263> women<00:34:26.440> are<00:34:26.504> founders,<00:34:27.981> 40%<00:34:28.591> are<00:34:28.752> people<00:34:28.993> of<00:34:29.089> color,<00:34:30.036> you<00:34:30.117> know,<00:34:30.309> so,<00:34:30.936> you<00:34:31.032> know,<00:34:32.124> we<00:34:32.365> are<00:34:32.782> in<00:34:32.878> a<00:34:32.943> space<00:34:33.424> and<00:34:33.521> in<00:34:33.665> a<00:34:33.729> headspace<00:34:34.452> where<00:34:35.415> it's<00:34:35.737> important<00:34:35.993> to<00:34:36.058> what<00:34:36.218> we<00:34:36.315> do.

00:34:38.546 --> 00:34:46.067
And,<00:34:39.027> you<00:34:39.059> know,<00:34:39.284> I<00:34:39.364> think<00:34:39.765> the<00:34:39.909> last<00:34:40.166> thing<00:34:40.262> I'll<00:34:40.406> say<00:34:40.711> is,<00:34:41.128> you<00:34:41.208> know,<00:34:41.465> like<00:34:41.833> anything,<00:34:43.212> it<00:34:43.293> comes<00:34:43.565> down<00:34:43.710> to<00:34:43.854> personal,<00:34:44.479> to<00:34:44.656> individual<00:34:45.201> actions<00:34:45.538> and<00:34:45.618> choices.

00:34:46.820 --> 00:34:52.160
And<00:34:46.901> that's<00:34:47.125> the<00:34:47.302> other<00:34:47.462> thing<00:34:47.606> that<00:34:47.686> kind<00:34:47.799> of<00:34:47.863> bums<00:34:48.168> me<00:34:48.264> out<00:34:48.360> about<00:34:48.568> DEI<00:34:48.809> is<00:34:49.130> it<00:34:49.210> kind<00:34:49.386> of<00:34:49.466> feels<00:34:49.771> like<00:34:49.947> it<00:34:50.012> was<00:34:50.172> like,<00:34:50.573> oh,<00:34:50.669> that's<00:34:50.894> someone<00:34:51.150> else's<00:34:51.471> responsibility.

00:34:52.273 --> 00:34:56.955
That's<00:34:52.577> somebody<00:34:53.058> else's,<00:34:54.021> you<00:34:54.117> know,<00:34:54.277> someone<00:34:54.742> else<00:34:55.063> will<00:34:55.801> handle<00:34:56.282> this<00:34:56.522> for<00:34:56.699> me.

00:34:57.885 --> 00:35:09.251
No,<00:34:58.190> it's<00:34:58.350> like,<00:34:58.687> you<00:34:58.783> know,<00:34:59.392> ageism,<00:34:59.809> which<00:34:59.970> is<00:35:00.114> one<00:35:00.210> of<00:35:00.307> the<00:35:00.355> things<00:35:00.531> we're<00:35:00.691> really<00:35:01.012> worried<00:35:01.269> about,<00:35:01.814> like<00:35:02.215> it<00:35:02.279> has<00:35:02.519> to<00:35:02.616> be<00:35:02.760> in<00:35:03.257> every<00:35:03.642> person<00:35:03.979> needs<00:35:04.283> to<00:35:04.380> be<00:35:04.524> aware<00:35:05.503> of<00:35:05.599> their<00:35:05.744> bias<00:35:06.854> and,<00:35:07.980> and<00:35:08.318> manage<00:35:08.656> it<00:35:08.785> accordingly.

00:35:09.685 --> 00:35:12.307
That's<00:35:10.731> the<00:35:10.876> best<00:35:11.117> answer<00:35:11.358> I've<00:35:11.519> heard<00:35:11.696> to<00:35:11.761> that<00:35:11.937> question.

00:35:12.661 --> 00:35:13.015
Well<00:35:12.822> done.

00:35:13.948 --> 00:35:14.495
That<00:35:14.093> was<00:35:14.254> great.

00:35:15.022 --> 00:35:16.057
What<00:35:15.426> about<00:35:15.814> ESG?

00:35:16.542 --> 00:35:21.443
Like,<00:35:17.124> and<00:35:17.432> obviously<00:35:17.755> this<00:35:17.933> is<00:35:18.030> kind<00:35:18.257> of<00:35:18.338> more<00:35:18.499> for<00:35:18.661> public<00:35:18.984> companies<00:35:19.793> and<00:35:19.955> private<00:35:20.343> equity<00:35:20.586> groups<00:35:20.844> and<00:35:20.990> things<00:35:21.152> like<00:35:21.330> that.

00:35:21.960 --> 00:35:22.785
Do<00:35:22.041> you<00:35:22.138> think<00:35:22.381> about<00:35:22.624> that?

00:35:22.850 --> 00:35:28.923
I<00:35:22.866> mean,<00:35:22.947> it's<00:35:23.044> along<00:35:23.335> the<00:35:23.368> same<00:35:23.626> lines,<00:35:23.934> so<00:35:24.079> maybe<00:35:24.322> it's<00:35:24.650> redundant<00:35:25.223> to<00:35:25.698> ask<00:35:25.960> it,<00:35:26.107> but<00:35:26.680> how<00:35:27.024> do<00:35:27.171> you<00:35:27.253> think<00:35:27.449> about<00:35:27.842> that<00:35:28.088> particular<00:35:28.579> issue?

00:35:30.863 --> 00:35:40.994
It's<00:35:31.009> interesting<00:35:31.366> because<00:35:31.544> I'm<00:35:31.836> literally<00:35:32.485> reviewing<00:35:32.809> proposals<00:35:33.442> right<00:35:33.685> now<00:35:34.334> to<00:35:34.512> bring<00:35:34.674> in<00:35:34.755> an<00:35:34.853> advisor<00:35:35.368> advisor<00:35:35.595> to<00:35:35.660> help<00:35:35.919> us<00:35:36.163> put<00:35:36.341> in<00:35:36.487> place<00:35:36.957> our<00:35:37.379> ESG<00:35:37.703> practices<00:35:39.081> for<00:35:39.470> our<00:35:39.567> portfolio<00:35:40.054> companies<00:35:40.459> and<00:35:40.524> ourselves.

00:35:42.060 --> 00:35:47.549
Most<00:35:42.253> of<00:35:42.334> the<00:35:42.415> time<00:35:42.673> it's<00:35:42.818> really<00:35:43.044> viewed<00:35:43.206> around<00:35:43.464> climate<00:35:44.013> and<00:35:44.110> environment,<00:35:44.675> which<00:35:44.772> is<00:35:44.917> less<00:35:45.144> relevant<00:35:45.789> for<00:35:45.902> most<00:35:46.145> of<00:35:46.193> our<00:35:46.290> businesses<00:35:46.694> that<00:35:46.791> are<00:35:46.855> tech<00:35:47.097> businesses.

00:35:47.646 --> 00:35:51.393
And<00:35:47.743> so<00:35:47.905> for<00:35:48.147> us,<00:35:48.308> it's<00:35:48.454> a<00:35:48.534> lot<00:35:48.712> more<00:35:48.825> around<00:35:49.261> aging<00:35:49.503> and<00:35:49.600> older<00:35:49.826> adults<00:35:50.181> is<00:35:50.343> our<00:35:50.553> lens<00:35:50.973> on<00:35:51.280> ESG.

00:35:53.076 --> 00:35:53.934
What<00:35:53.189> do<00:35:53.303> I<00:35:53.383> think<00:35:53.561> about<00:35:53.788> it?

00:35:54.192 --> 00:35:57.056
I<00:35:54.532> think<00:35:54.921> that<00:35:55.115> it's<00:35:55.276> not<00:35:55.487> going<00:35:55.568> to<00:35:55.649> happen<00:35:55.907> without<00:35:56.215> regulatory<00:35:56.781> pressure.

00:35:57.780 --> 00:36:04.658
I<00:35:57.812> think<00:35:57.989> if<00:35:58.070> you<00:35:58.296> think<00:35:58.474> about<00:35:59.168> any<00:35:59.346> change<00:35:59.733> that's<00:35:59.895> happened<00:36:00.557> in<00:36:00.702> our<00:36:00.799> economy<00:36:01.284> and<00:36:01.364> our<00:36:01.590> business<00:36:01.817> environment,<00:36:02.170> environment<00:36:02.507> has<00:36:02.683> happened<00:36:03.004> because<00:36:03.326> the<00:36:03.470> government<00:36:03.791> has<00:36:03.904> said<00:36:04.112> you<00:36:04.193> have<00:36:04.353> to<00:36:04.450> do<00:36:04.594> it.

00:36:05.895 --> 00:36:11.852
It's<00:36:06.119> not<00:36:06.441> out<00:36:06.553> of<00:36:06.697> the,<00:36:07.259> you<00:36:07.340> know,<00:36:08.046> there<00:36:08.143> are<00:36:08.303> B<00:36:08.464> Corps<00:36:08.801> and<00:36:08.929> there<00:36:09.026> are<00:36:09.170> companies<00:36:09.652> that<00:36:09.812> like<00:36:09.973> to<00:36:10.069> do<00:36:10.294> it<00:36:10.471> because<00:36:10.712> they<00:36:10.856> think<00:36:10.969> it's<00:36:11.177> the<00:36:11.258> right<00:36:11.434> thing<00:36:11.595> to<00:36:11.691> do.

00:36:12.301 --> 00:36:16.540
But<00:36:12.398> the<00:36:12.478> way<00:36:12.703> a<00:36:12.719> capitalist<00:36:13.120> economy<00:36:13.505> works<00:36:13.762> is<00:36:13.923> because<00:36:14.228> you<00:36:14.308> have<00:36:14.421> no<00:36:14.565> choice<00:36:14.870> but<00:36:14.967> to<00:36:15.111> do<00:36:15.207> it<00:36:15.448> because<00:36:15.834> ESG<00:36:16.010> is<00:36:16.091> expensive.

00:36:17.070 --> 00:36:27.410
So<00:36:17.696> until<00:36:18.098> there's<00:36:18.483> a<00:36:18.579> lot<00:36:18.900> more<00:36:19.222> regulatory<00:36:20.426> support<00:36:21.229> and<00:36:21.389> focus<00:36:21.775> on<00:36:21.935> it,<00:36:22.353> and<00:36:22.449> if<00:36:22.577> you<00:36:22.610> just<00:36:22.818> think<00:36:23.011> about,<00:36:23.380> you<00:36:23.461> know,<00:36:23.782> anything<00:36:24.103> around<00:36:24.344> climate,<00:36:24.857> it's<00:36:25.243> happened<00:36:25.580> because<00:36:26.351> the<00:36:26.431> regulatory<00:36:26.929> environment.

00:36:27.797 --> 00:36:30.146
Not<00:36:28.042> because<00:36:28.613> of<00:36:28.792> good<00:36:28.972> citizens<00:36:29.429> wanting<00:36:29.608> to<00:36:29.673> do<00:36:29.755> the<00:36:29.836> right<00:36:30.016> thing.

00:36:30.685 --> 00:36:32.039
So<00:36:31.386> what<00:36:31.500> do<00:36:31.549> I<00:36:31.729> think?

00:36:32.137 --> 00:36:43.448
I<00:36:32.218> think<00:36:32.544> it's,<00:36:35.440> again,<00:36:36.200> it's<00:36:36.443> the<00:36:36.588> right<00:36:36.766> thing<00:36:37.009> to<00:36:37.575> do<00:36:37.834> from<00:36:39.597> where<00:36:39.840> our<00:36:39.937> society<00:36:40.406> needs<00:36:40.665> to<00:36:40.794> go,<00:36:41.377> but<00:36:41.474> it's<00:36:41.603> not<00:36:41.700> going<00:36:41.814> to<00:36:41.846> happen<00:36:42.186> without<00:36:42.736> more<00:36:42.817> regulatory.

00:36:45.518 --> 00:36:48.714
Again,<00:36:45.747> I'm<00:36:45.944> sure<00:36:46.092> you<00:36:46.173> can<00:36:46.272> tell<00:36:46.387> my<00:36:46.518> political<00:36:46.878> beliefs<00:36:47.239> just<00:36:47.403> based<00:36:47.665> on<00:36:47.731> that<00:36:47.829> sentence<00:36:48.550> alone.

00:36:50.255 --> 00:36:51.129
No,<00:36:50.417> that's<00:36:50.676> incredible.

00:36:51.210 --> 00:36:54.525
I<00:36:51.290> won't<00:36:51.468> go<00:36:51.630> deeper<00:36:52.018> on<00:36:52.099> your<00:36:52.196> political—<00:36:52.665> we're<00:36:52.843> not<00:36:52.989> a<00:36:53.070> political<00:36:53.409> show,<00:36:53.652> but<00:36:53.797> yeah,<00:36:53.878> that's<00:36:54.137> incredible.

00:36:54.606 --> 00:36:55.399
I<00:36:54.930> hear<00:36:55.027> what<00:36:55.091> you're<00:36:55.205> saying.

00:36:56.866 --> 00:36:57.637
What<00:36:57.027> are<00:36:57.091> your<00:36:57.252> thoughts?

00:36:57.766 --> 00:37:01.411
Now,<00:36:57.846> I'm<00:36:58.183> going<00:36:58.504> to<00:36:58.633> ask<00:36:58.793> you<00:36:59.034> probably<00:36:59.436> a<00:36:59.500> blatantly<00:36:59.998> political<00:37:00.399> question.

00:37:01.925 --> 00:37:03.788
We<00:37:02.005> got<00:37:02.166> this<00:37:02.327> current<00:37:02.519> macroeconomic<00:37:03.306> environment.

00:37:03.836 --> 00:37:06.069
We've<00:37:04.013> got<00:37:04.495> inflation<00:37:05.217> where<00:37:05.458> it<00:37:05.603> is.

00:37:06.165 --> 00:37:09.650
You've<00:37:06.326> got<00:37:06.647> kind<00:37:06.824> of<00:37:06.888> the<00:37:06.984> consumer<00:37:08.446> feeling<00:37:09.072> pinched.

00:37:09.875 --> 00:37:12.316
They<00:37:10.036> go<00:37:10.116> to<00:37:10.212> the<00:37:10.341> grocery<00:37:10.678> store,<00:37:11.240> prices<00:37:11.706> are<00:37:11.738> super<00:37:12.123> high.

00:37:13.794 --> 00:37:19.543
Add<00:37:14.035> to<00:37:14.131> that<00:37:14.452> kind<00:37:14.613> of<00:37:14.773> just<00:37:15.014> the<00:37:15.111> civil<00:37:15.737> unrest<00:37:16.283> or<00:37:16.315> maybe<00:37:16.620> political<00:37:17.263> unrest,<00:37:17.809> given<00:37:18.050> that<00:37:18.210> we're<00:37:18.291> in<00:37:18.403> an<00:37:18.692> election<00:37:19.254> year.

00:37:20.218 --> 00:37:24.666
What<00:37:20.378> are<00:37:20.459> your<00:37:20.555> thoughts<00:37:20.796> on<00:37:20.876> kind<00:37:21.053> of<00:37:21.101> like<00:37:21.358> where<00:37:21.663> we're<00:37:21.904> at<00:37:22.081> right<00:37:22.386> now<00:37:22.964> as<00:37:23.125> a<00:37:23.189> society,<00:37:23.831> as<00:37:23.944> a<00:37:24.072> culture?

00:37:25.053 --> 00:37:29.676
I<00:37:25.069> mean,<00:37:25.523> United<00:37:25.718> States<00:37:26.010> is<00:37:26.091> not<00:37:26.253> the<00:37:26.351> only<00:37:26.545> country<00:37:27.405> that's<00:37:27.567> about<00:37:27.745> to<00:37:27.940> have<00:37:28.054> a<00:37:28.135> bunch<00:37:28.459> of<00:37:28.848> a—<00:37:29.092> have<00:37:29.205> an<00:37:29.335> election.

00:37:29.757 --> 00:37:31.427
There's<00:37:29.903> a<00:37:29.984> bunch<00:37:30.178> of<00:37:30.324> countries<00:37:30.633> that<00:37:30.746> are<00:37:30.811> about<00:37:30.973> to<00:37:31.135> do<00:37:31.281> this.

00:37:32.032 --> 00:37:40.725
Where<00:37:32.129> do<00:37:32.257> you<00:37:32.354> think<00:37:32.595> we're<00:37:32.981> at<00:37:33.142> right<00:37:33.384> now,<00:37:34.510> and<00:37:34.607> how<00:37:34.767> do<00:37:34.912> you,<00:37:35.797> um,<00:37:36.296> advise<00:37:36.940> your<00:37:37.728> companies<00:37:38.146> and<00:37:38.291> your<00:37:38.452> founders<00:37:38.951> on<00:37:39.080> that?

00:37:42.435 --> 00:37:43.339
So<00:37:42.661> I'm<00:37:42.822> an<00:37:42.968> optimist.

00:37:44.823 --> 00:37:46.098
Um,<00:37:45.339> I'm<00:37:45.484> glass<00:37:45.791> half<00:37:46.033> full.

00:37:47.178 --> 00:37:50.012
Um,<00:37:47.437> it's<00:37:47.566> great,<00:37:47.808> one<00:37:47.921> of<00:37:47.985> my<00:37:48.146> colleagues<00:37:48.711> on<00:37:48.760> the<00:37:48.857> team,<00:37:49.264> he's<00:37:49.443> glass<00:37:49.670> half<00:37:49.833> empty.

00:37:50.077 --> 00:37:51.942
So<00:37:50.110> we<00:37:50.337> actually<00:37:50.565> together<00:37:50.923> make<00:37:51.086> a<00:37:51.102> really<00:37:51.332> great<00:37:51.476> investor.

00:37:53.162 --> 00:37:56.277
But<00:37:54.238> so<00:37:54.784> where<00:37:54.880> do<00:37:55.025> I,<00:37:55.426> where<00:37:55.506> do<00:37:55.651> I<00:37:55.683> see<00:37:55.988> things?

00:37:57.497 --> 00:38:07.083
I<00:37:57.931> still<00:37:58.878> believe<00:37:59.906> in<00:38:00.082> individuals<00:38:01.030> and<00:38:01.511> people's<00:38:01.849> desires<00:38:02.716> to<00:38:02.876> be,<00:38:03.294> to<00:38:03.438> succeed,<00:38:03.936> to<00:38:04.032> be<00:38:04.177> happy,<00:38:04.739> to<00:38:04.883> protect<00:38:05.461> themselves,<00:38:06.087> their,<00:38:06.425> their<00:38:06.585> loved<00:38:06.826> ones.

00:38:07.147 --> 00:38:28.421
And<00:38:07.227> so<00:38:08.191> I<00:38:08.287> think<00:38:08.737> that<00:38:08.897> that<00:38:09.539> ultimately<00:38:09.957> is<00:38:10.037> the<00:38:10.198> undercurrent<00:38:11.386> whenever<00:38:11.803> there<00:38:12.044> is<00:38:12.670> distress<00:38:13.473> or<00:38:13.650> political<00:38:14.132> change<00:38:14.838> or<00:38:15.095> economic<00:38:15.561> uncertainty<00:38:16.604> that<00:38:16.765> I<00:38:16.925> do<00:38:16.990> I<00:38:17.022> do<00:38:17.054> believe<00:38:17.343> individuals<00:38:18.386> will<00:38:18.708> make,<00:38:19.815> will<00:38:19.912> take<00:38:20.297> action<00:38:21.276> to<00:38:21.903> move<00:38:22.144> themselves<00:38:22.802> forward<00:38:23.364> because<00:38:23.685> we<00:38:23.990> all<00:38:24.070> are<00:38:24.151> self-interested<00:38:24.969> and<00:38:25.050> that<00:38:25.708> self-interest<00:38:26.559> collectively<00:38:27.362> will<00:38:27.619> make<00:38:27.763> sure<00:38:27.924> we're<00:38:28.020> okay.

00:38:28.887 --> 00:38:32.692
That's<00:38:29.064> a<00:38:29.128> very<00:38:29.706> nebulous<00:38:30.172> answer,<00:38:30.493> but<00:38:30.734> I<00:38:30.830> think<00:38:30.990> that's<00:38:31.392> kind<00:38:31.552> of<00:38:31.617> how<00:38:31.938> I'm<00:38:32.275> wired.

00:38:32.901 --> 00:38:45.967
Having<00:38:33.174> said<00:38:33.640> that,<00:38:35.085> what<00:38:35.245> we<00:38:35.406> do<00:38:35.631> tell<00:38:35.807> our<00:38:35.968> founders<00:38:37.236> is<00:38:37.493> that<00:38:37.895> there<00:38:38.601> is<00:38:38.697> so<00:38:38.874> much<00:38:39.099> uncertainty<00:38:40.303> that<00:38:40.528> you<00:38:40.688> cannot<00:38:41.973> rely<00:38:42.470> on<00:38:42.872> one<00:38:43.112> customer,<00:38:44.299> one<00:38:44.796> way<00:38:45.037> of<00:38:45.181> doing<00:38:45.454> things.

00:38:46.464 --> 00:38:51.692
One,<00:38:46.865> you<00:38:47.122> need<00:38:47.507> option<00:38:47.843> value,<00:38:48.806> and<00:38:48.966> part<00:38:49.207> of<00:38:49.271> that<00:38:49.431> option<00:38:49.752> value<00:38:50.153> is<00:38:50.313> getting<00:38:50.570> to<00:38:50.714> profitability<00:38:51.291> faster.

00:38:52.254 --> 00:39:11.851
So<00:38:52.558> coming<00:38:52.895> out<00:38:52.991> of<00:38:53.039> the<00:38:53.136> investment<00:38:53.601> cycle,<00:38:54.178> you<00:38:54.258> know,<00:38:54.643> if,<00:38:55.060> if<00:38:55.525> 2020,<00:38:56.103> 2021<00:38:56.824> were<00:38:56.904> these<00:38:57.065> crazy<00:38:57.386> valuations<00:38:57.947> and<00:38:58.059> people<00:38:58.268> raising<00:38:58.588> a<00:38:58.604> lot<00:38:58.813> of<00:38:58.909> money,<00:38:59.711> you<00:38:59.855> saw<00:39:00.192> in<00:39:00.336> '23,<00:39:01.716> particularly,<00:39:02.742> companies,<00:39:03.785> uh,<00:39:04.121> really<00:39:04.442> pulling<00:39:04.763> back,<00:39:05.468> cutting<00:39:05.789> their<00:39:05.885> workforce,<00:39:07.489> making<00:39:07.810> steps<00:39:08.163> so<00:39:08.227> they<00:39:08.500> stretch<00:39:10.691> their<00:39:11.029> funding<00:39:11.432> longer.

00:39:12.383 --> 00:39:44.200
And<00:39:12.705> so<00:39:12.866> I<00:39:12.882> think<00:39:13.043> we<00:39:13.188> continue<00:39:13.994> to<00:39:14.107> talk<00:39:14.413> to<00:39:14.493> our<00:39:14.590> founders<00:39:15.379> around<00:39:16.910> pushing<00:39:17.152> towards<00:39:17.395> profitability<00:39:18.204> sooner<00:39:18.673> than<00:39:18.835> you<00:39:18.932> normally<00:39:19.401> would<00:39:19.741> from<00:39:19.968> like<00:39:20.130> the<00:39:20.227> dot-com<00:39:20.777> boom<00:39:21.441> where<00:39:21.683> every,<00:39:21.926> you<00:39:22.023> know,<00:39:22.153> no<00:39:22.250> one<00:39:22.412> was<00:39:22.574> profitable<00:39:23.059> ever,<00:39:24.340> as<00:39:24.453> well<00:39:24.925> as<00:39:25.088> having<00:39:25.267> a<00:39:25.413> lot<00:39:25.820> more<00:39:26.243> overlapping<00:39:27.300> redundant<00:39:28.764> products,<00:39:29.171> redundant<00:39:29.741> sales<00:39:30.066> channels,<00:39:31.380> and<00:39:32.044> really<00:39:32.384> reducing<00:39:33.015> that<00:39:33.193> probability<00:39:34.003> of<00:39:34.084> success<00:39:35.216> Because<00:39:35.938> as<00:39:36.099> great<00:39:36.371> as<00:39:36.451> your<00:39:36.660> product<00:39:36.933> or<00:39:36.997> service<00:39:37.398> is,<00:39:38.264> if<00:39:38.345> your<00:39:38.601> customer,<00:39:39.099> especially<00:39:39.548> your<00:39:39.724> enterprise<00:39:40.109> customer,<00:39:40.446> your<00:39:40.590> consumer,<00:39:41.072> is<00:39:41.232> feeling<00:39:41.505> nervous<00:39:41.826> or<00:39:41.890> skittish,<00:39:42.917> it's<00:39:43.093> just<00:39:43.238> you<00:39:43.398> can't<00:39:43.574> rely<00:39:43.815> on<00:39:44.040> that.

00:39:44.553 --> 00:39:55.205
So<00:39:45.098> I<00:39:45.179> think<00:39:45.580> we're<00:39:46.286> talking<00:39:46.606> to<00:39:46.703> our<00:39:46.847> founders<00:39:47.184> about<00:39:47.344> being<00:39:47.505> more<00:39:47.665> conservative,<00:39:48.852> even<00:39:49.173> though<00:39:49.831> I<00:39:49.991> know,<00:39:50.713> and<00:39:50.794> this<00:39:50.890> is<00:39:50.938> the<00:39:51.034> great<00:39:51.195> thing<00:39:51.307> about<00:39:51.435> being<00:39:52.077> with<00:39:52.221> my<00:39:52.318> partner<00:39:52.703> Alan,<00:39:52.959> he's<00:39:53.104> been<00:39:53.200> an<00:39:53.264> investor<00:39:53.585> for<00:39:53.681> 50<00:39:53.922> years,<00:39:54.243> he's<00:39:54.467> seen<00:39:54.644> every<00:39:54.804> cycle.

00:39:55.767 --> 00:39:57.050
Everything<00:39:56.168> works<00:39:56.489> in<00:39:56.585> a<00:39:56.649> cycle.

00:39:57.612 --> 00:40:01.205
I<00:39:57.628> mean,<00:39:57.933> you<00:39:58.157> have<00:39:58.510> to<00:39:58.719> look,<00:39:58.975> you<00:39:59.136> don't<00:39:59.553> have<00:39:59.778> to<00:40:00.018> be<00:40:00.082> a<00:40:00.098> historian<00:40:00.596> to<00:40:00.740> look<00:40:00.901> back.

00:40:01.270 --> 00:40:02.576
I<00:40:01.302> would<00:40:01.368> say<00:40:01.466> there's<00:40:01.645> a<00:40:01.711> cycle<00:40:02.119> to<00:40:02.266> everything.

00:40:03.344 --> 00:40:05.565
And<00:40:03.491> so<00:40:03.752> you<00:40:03.834> just<00:40:03.997> got<00:40:04.128> to<00:40:04.242> get<00:40:04.471> to<00:40:04.553> the<00:40:04.651> other<00:40:04.814> side<00:40:05.075> of<00:40:05.141> the<00:40:05.222> cycle.

00:40:07.670 --> 00:40:14.766
Finally,<00:40:07.945> we<00:40:08.107> end<00:40:08.269> every<00:40:08.496> interview<00:40:08.755> with<00:40:08.901> the<00:40:08.982> same<00:40:09.241> question,<00:40:09.727> and<00:40:09.808> that<00:40:10.035> is<00:40:10.213> at<00:40:10.294> CEO.com,<00:40:11.266> we<00:40:11.428> believe<00:40:11.688> the<00:40:11.817> chances<00:40:12.303> one<00:40:12.482> gives<00:40:12.887> is<00:40:12.968> just<00:40:13.178> as<00:40:13.292> important<00:40:13.681> as<00:40:13.762> the<00:40:13.859> chances<00:40:14.264> one<00:40:14.426> takes.

00:40:15.382 --> 00:40:19.014
I<00:40:15.528> wonder<00:40:15.706> when<00:40:15.868> you<00:40:16.014> hear<00:40:16.290> that,<00:40:16.663> who<00:40:16.841> gave<00:40:17.149> you<00:40:17.311> a<00:40:17.392> chance<00:40:17.830> to<00:40:17.976> get<00:40:18.138> you<00:40:18.219> to<00:40:18.300> where<00:40:18.462> you<00:40:18.624> are<00:40:18.770> today?

00:40:20.710 --> 00:40:25.060
So<00:40:21.145> I<00:40:21.290> was<00:40:24.028> 18—<00:40:24.383> no,<00:40:24.512> I<00:40:24.608> was<00:40:24.753> 20.

00:40:25.398 --> 00:40:26.397
I<00:40:25.414> was<00:40:25.575> interviewing<00:40:25.962> at<00:40:26.058> McKinsey.

00:40:27.056 --> 00:40:31.135
And<00:40:27.779> I<00:40:28.678> showed<00:40:28.983> up<00:40:29.063> for<00:40:29.144> my<00:40:29.320> interview<00:40:30.268> in<00:40:30.364> New<00:40:30.509> York<00:40:30.605> City<00:40:30.910> office.

00:40:31.633 --> 00:40:35.310
And<00:40:32.275> I<00:40:32.307> started,<00:40:32.692> they<00:40:32.773> do<00:40:32.853> something<00:40:33.013> called<00:40:33.174> a<00:40:33.254> case<00:40:33.415> study<00:40:33.656> where<00:40:33.736> they<00:40:33.880> ask<00:40:34.057> you<00:40:34.153> a<00:40:34.282> case<00:40:34.539> question<00:40:34.860> on<00:40:35.004> business.

00:40:36.209 --> 00:40:40.769
And<00:40:36.562> Zubin<00:40:36.867> Tarapavala,<00:40:37.911> who<00:40:38.858> recently<00:40:39.099> retired,<00:40:39.741> he<00:40:39.837> was<00:40:39.982> asking<00:40:40.175> me<00:40:40.303> the<00:40:40.399> question.

00:40:41.507 --> 00:40:44.285
And<00:40:41.604> about<00:40:41.925> 6<00:40:42.390> minutes<00:40:42.712> in,<00:40:43.113> I<00:40:43.145> knew<00:40:43.595> I<00:40:43.691> was<00:40:43.852> messing<00:40:44.173> it<00:40:44.237> up.

00:40:44.895 --> 00:40:50.451
Like<00:40:45.297> I<00:40:45.457> was<00:40:45.778> flailing<00:40:46.356> and<00:40:46.565> I<00:40:46.726> was<00:40:47.304> circling<00:40:47.882> and<00:40:47.946> my<00:40:48.107> math<00:40:48.508> wasn't<00:40:48.893> adding<00:40:49.150> up<00:40:49.327> and<00:40:49.536> I<00:40:49.616> was<00:40:49.937> flustered.

00:40:50.499 --> 00:40:52.089
I<00:40:50.515> mean,<00:40:50.611> I<00:40:50.660> was<00:40:50.772> young,<00:40:51.157> but<00:40:51.302> I<00:40:51.318> was<00:40:51.623> flustered.

00:40:53.100 --> 00:41:01.393
And<00:40:53.165> he<00:40:53.278> looked<00:40:53.520> at<00:40:53.600> me<00:40:54.633> and<00:40:54.714> he<00:40:54.810> said,<00:40:55.698> "All<00:40:55.762> right,<00:40:56.746> we're<00:40:56.827> gonna<00:40:56.988> forget<00:40:57.537> the<00:40:57.618> past<00:40:57.956> 10<00:40:58.198> minutes<00:40:58.521> happened,"<00:40:58.989> which<00:40:59.166> to<00:40:59.247> me<00:40:59.408> felt<00:40:59.570> like<00:40:59.957> 3<00:41:00.296> hours<00:41:00.635> of<00:41:00.699> pain<00:41:00.990> and<00:41:01.038> sweating.

00:41:02.134 --> 00:41:19.839
Uh,<00:41:02.553> he's<00:41:02.650> like,<00:41:02.860> "We're<00:41:02.924> gonna<00:41:03.053> start<00:41:03.344> again."<00:41:05.601> And<00:41:05.778> I<00:41:05.859> know<00:41:06.101> it's<00:41:06.262> a<00:41:06.423> really<00:41:06.665> small<00:41:07.052> thing,<00:41:07.942> but<00:41:08.184> that<00:41:08.490> sense<00:41:09.166> of,<00:41:09.295> first<00:41:09.488> of<00:41:09.617> all,<00:41:09.875> the<00:41:10.036> empathy<00:41:10.358> he<00:41:10.519> had,<00:41:11.485> plus<00:41:12.693> the<00:41:12.774> second<00:41:13.160> chance<00:41:13.579> you<00:41:13.740> get—<00:41:15.174> and<00:41:16.156> I<00:41:16.236> wouldn't<00:41:16.462> say<00:41:16.865> that<00:41:17.010> like<00:41:17.305> that's<00:41:18.092> was<00:41:18.252> the<00:41:18.332> rest<00:41:18.509> of<00:41:18.573> my<00:41:18.733> career<00:41:19.214> and<00:41:19.374> everything<00:41:19.695> was<00:41:19.775> set.

00:41:19.935 --> 00:41:21.346
And<00:41:20.080> there<00:41:20.176> have<00:41:20.240> been<00:41:20.336> setbacks<00:41:20.817> since<00:41:21.138> then.

00:41:22.244 --> 00:41:30.404
But<00:41:22.484> that<00:41:22.821> for<00:41:22.981> me,<00:41:24.023> if<00:41:24.103> he<00:41:24.248> hadn't<00:41:24.649> given<00:41:24.825> me<00:41:24.985> another<00:41:25.306> chance,<00:41:26.973> I'm<00:41:27.069> not,<00:41:27.630> I<00:41:27.871> think<00:41:28.336> it<00:41:28.416> just<00:41:28.576> was<00:41:28.656> so<00:41:28.897> foundational.

00:41:30.660 --> 00:41:34.652
And<00:41:30.917> there's<00:41:31.141> been<00:41:31.237> a<00:41:31.318> lot<00:41:31.558> of<00:41:31.718> times<00:41:32.183> where<00:41:32.440> I've<00:41:32.600> gotten<00:41:32.840> a<00:41:32.905> lot<00:41:33.017> of<00:41:33.081> chances,<00:41:33.562> both<00:41:33.802> personally<00:41:34.091> and<00:41:34.187> professionally.

00:41:35.325 --> 00:41:40.103
But<00:41:35.486> I<00:41:35.566> think<00:41:35.790> being<00:41:36.031> able<00:41:36.287> to<00:41:37.089> recognize<00:41:37.714> that<00:41:37.794> you<00:41:37.874> make<00:41:38.051> a<00:41:38.067> mistake,<00:41:38.532> you<00:41:38.612> pick<00:41:38.836> yourself<00:41:39.157> up<00:41:39.397> and<00:41:39.493> you<00:41:39.574> keep<00:41:39.798> going.

00:41:41.257 --> 00:41:44.703
That's<00:41:41.561> something<00:41:42.058> that<00:41:42.235> is<00:41:42.796> a<00:41:42.860> founder<00:41:43.341> needs<00:41:43.966> to<00:41:44.062> have<00:41:44.302> and<00:41:44.383> to<00:41:44.479> know.

00:41:44.783 --> 00:41:48.885
And<00:41:45.024> thank<00:41:45.200> you,<00:41:45.280> Zubin,<00:41:45.664> for<00:41:46.866> like<00:41:47.331> picking<00:41:47.571> me<00:41:47.667> back<00:41:47.892> up<00:41:48.068> and<00:41:48.132> letting<00:41:48.324> me<00:41:48.405> start<00:41:48.629> again.
