# Charlie Garcia turned down nine billionaires

Charlie Garcia has spent decades in rooms most people never hear about. He advised six presidents from both parties. He holds the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for service in Central America in the mid-1980s, and after the September 11 attacks, he did work that earned him the CIA's Agency Seal Medal and a Director of National Intelligence award, according to [his biography on R360's site](https://r360global.com/about/our-team?ref=ceo.com). On his own Substack, he describes that period in one line: the phone rang, he was available, and [what followed is still classified](https://charliepgarcia.substack.com/about).

He taught Latin American militaries about propaganda in the eighties. Now he runs a club for people worth at least $100 million, and one of the things he most wants them to do with the money is take an unpaid government job.

"I was on the Florida State Board of Education," Garcia told the CEO.com Podcast. "In the six years that I was there as an entrepreneur, I was able to transform key parts of the Florida education system." Jeb Bush appointed him, and he led the statewide reading task force. He chaired the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors from 2005 to 2012, appointed by George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and took the job in the middle of a sexual assault crisis. He would like every one of his members to do something similar in whatever town, state, or agency they care about, instead of only writing checks.

The club is called R360\. Garcia had done the peer-group circuit himself, joining YPO and Vistage because he never got an MBA and wanted what he had missed. Those groups make you a better CEO. R360 was built on a different premise: that a family who only knows how to manage financial capital is in trouble.

The specifics came together during a one-year fellowship at Harvard under the mentorship of Bill George, author of *True North Groups*. [R360's own account](https://r360global.com/about?ref=ceo.com) says Garcia's team refined the idea through Harvard's Venture Incubation Program by interviewing more than 100 ultra-high-net-worth families. On the podcast, Garcia described a 10-week summer program in 2019 that took 20 teams out of 130 applicants, staffed his team with Harvard and MIT professors and 10 students, and produced the concept: a peer group for people who had built wealth above $100 million and shared what he calls a spirit of generosity. [R360 launched the following year](https://hispanicexecutive.com/charlie-garcia-r360/?ref=ceo.com).

So the programming rotates through six forms of capital: financial, intellectual, social, human, emotional, spiritual. Chapters [meet five times a year](https://r360global.com/about/how-were-different?ref=ceo.com), with social events in the off months and a standing rule against pitching. At the end of each meeting, Garcia said, you tell the room what you will do before the next one, for yourself, your spouse, your children, your grandchildren, and the room holds you to it.

Getting in is the hard part. When Garcia spoke with the podcast, the membership committee, which he does not sit on, had rejected 72 applicants, nine of them billionaires. Not for lack of money. R360 now says it is [close to 200 families averaging $600 million each](https://r360global.com/about?ref=ceo.com), with a stated target of 1,000 and an ambition to touch 3 billion people.

Sixteen of the current members never went to college. Nine dropped out of high school. Some grew up not eating every day. "Something went off in their brain that said, no freaking way, this is not going to be my life," Garcia said. The same wiring that built the fortune, in his telling, is what makes them want to give it away.

## 2,000 hours

A few years ago, after an R360 meeting on intellectual capital, Garcia committed to four hours a day on artificial intelligence. He has since logged roughly 2,000 hours. The advice he got early was to pick one model and go deep rather than skim 10, so he spent a year on ChatGPT, then added Claude. Now he works with an engineer from a member's AI company, which already has 180 employees, on a platform that sends one prompt to five models and compares the answers.

His demonstration on the CEO.com Podcast was for a friend facing heart surgery. Asking a chatbot a question cold, he said, is like asking a stranger at a bus stop. So he did not ask for the best heart surgeons. He asked the model what criteria it would use to pick them. It gave him 15\. He asked it to apply them, and none of the original five names survived. He asked those five how they would improve the criteria for the whole world, applied that, and only one American made the cut, alongside two surgeons in India, one in France, and one in Japan.

Then he asked the five what specialist was missing from their team. A Japanese surgeon doing robotic and AI-assisted procedures. Then he described his friend's case. The panel came back with four non-invasive tests to run before anyone operated. Three minutes, start to finish. The friend's cardiologist wanted to know who he had been talking to.

Garcia also gave his 88-year-old mother, in hospice and devoutly Catholic, an hour-long voice conversation about the Virgin Mary drawn from Scripture. "If I could go back 30 years, I'd be a software engineer," he said. "But now with AI, as long as you know how to ask questions, you can create teams of whatever."

He has since become a writer in his own right. He edits R360's members-only Night Owl, writes the Street Sense column for MarketWatch, and in October 2025 launched a Substack called [Capital Mischief](https://charliepgarcia.substack.com/about). By his account there, one MarketWatch column reached 800,000 readers. In [a March 2026 release issued under his own name](https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/former-presidential-adviser-hits-1-new-bestseller-on-substackwithout-ads-paid-acquisition-or-a-marketing-team-302712965.html?ref=ceo.com), Garcia said Capital Mischief hit #1 New Bestseller across the platform 143 days after launching with no paid marketing, and that he is completing a debut thriller, *Satoshi v. Goliath*, headed to HarperCollins.

On the podcast, he made the bitcoin case plainly. He told his children he expects it to be above $10 million in 20 years. R360 uses BitPay so employees can route any share of a paycheck into it. He said he is still buying for the portfolio with the longest horizon he manages: his grandchildren's.

His politics run in the same direction. He said American schools have given capitalism a bad name and that the federal payroll, not foreign aid, is the country's largest fiscal problem. He also thinks the country has forgotten how to argue. The first president he worked for, in the last six months of the Reagan administration, used to invite Tip O'Neill over for poker. Reagan told O'Neill he disagreed with 80 percent of what he believed, then proposed they start on the other 20.

When Garcia wrote for CNN in 2012, his editor required a footnote on nearly every line. He misses that.

## The job description

Every CEO.com Podcast episode ends on the same question: who gave you a chance? The show's premise is that the chances one gives are as important as the chances one takes.

Garcia wrote his first book, *A Message From Garcia*, partly to honor his mentors, and he has lately been tracking them down to call and write thank-you notes. His grandfather told him to learn to shave on someone else's face first. His former father-in-law, Seymour Holtzman, gave him an early opportunity. A four-star general became a father figure. [Sol Trujillo](https://soltrujillo.com/biography/?ref=ceo.com), who grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and went on to run US West, Orange, and Telstra, became his partner in Garcia Trujillo because he wanted to help a young Hispanic entrepreneur succeed.

But the one he kept returning to was Max Chapman. Chapman had run Kidder Peabody and sold it to General Electric, then became president of Nomura. Garcia thinks he was the first American to sit on the board of a Japanese company. Chapman joined the board of what Garcia called "my little rinky-dink company" for no reason Garcia could identify other than wanting to help.

One day Chapman called him in. Part of my job is succession, he said. If you get hit by a bus, who do I hire? Write me the job description. Garcia wrote it, went on vacation, came back, and brought it to Chapman's office. Chapman handed it back to him.

Read it, he said. Be honest with yourself and me. Is that you?

No, Garcia said.

Then there are two choices, Chapman said. You come onto the board, and we hire that person to scale the company. Or we sell it.

Garcia sold Sterling Financial, which he had grown to 60 offices in eight countries. That was 2006\. Two years later, Bear Stearns, his clearing agent, no longer existed.

00:00:12.867 --> 00:00:14.738
Charlie,<00:00:13.270> thank<00:00:13.383> you<00:00:13.464> so<00:00:13.609> much<00:00:13.835> for<00:00:13.915> coming<00:00:14.157> on<00:00:14.238> the<00:00:14.319> show.

00:00:14.980 --> 00:00:26.953
You<00:00:15.287> are<00:00:15.545> the<00:00:15.787> founder<00:00:16.738> of<00:00:16.948> R360,<00:00:18.206> which<00:00:18.368> is<00:00:18.464> a<00:00:18.529> very<00:00:18.932> interesting,<00:00:19.819> uh,<00:00:20.303> and<00:00:20.610> really<00:00:21.013> cool<00:00:21.433> and<00:00:22.242> a<00:00:22.388> really<00:00:22.663> exclusive<00:00:23.683> group<00:00:23.942> of<00:00:24.023> folks<00:00:24.508> that<00:00:24.654> you've<00:00:24.897> put<00:00:25.075> together,<00:00:25.868> um,<00:00:26.111> which<00:00:26.289> I<00:00:26.354> want<00:00:26.499> to<00:00:26.532> talk<00:00:26.839> about.

00:00:27.017 --> 00:00:27.989
But<00:00:27.179> tell<00:00:27.341> us<00:00:27.438> about<00:00:27.568> your<00:00:27.730> career.

00:00:28.053 --> 00:00:29.332
You've<00:00:28.474> done<00:00:28.636> a<00:00:28.652> number<00:00:29.024> of<00:00:29.122> things.

00:00:29.429 --> 00:00:29.915
What<00:00:29.526> led<00:00:29.607> you<00:00:29.640> to<00:00:29.672> found<00:00:29.769> this<00:00:29.834> group?

00:00:32.276 --> 00:00:34.540
Well,<00:00:32.437> Clint,<00:00:32.822> thank<00:00:33.063> you<00:00:33.224> for<00:00:33.946> having<00:00:34.348> me.

00:00:35.263 --> 00:00:37.672
So<00:00:36.034> I<00:00:36.451> became<00:00:36.788> an<00:00:36.917> entrepreneur.

00:00:38.683 --> 00:00:42.039
I<00:00:39.342> wanted<00:00:39.599> to<00:00:39.663> be<00:00:39.743> in<00:00:39.823> the<00:00:39.904> military<00:00:40.851> and<00:00:40.931> I<00:00:41.028> wanted<00:00:41.253> to<00:00:41.333> fly<00:00:41.590> airplanes.

00:00:42.232 --> 00:00:46.680
So<00:00:42.457> I<00:00:42.553> went<00:00:42.794> to<00:00:42.939> the<00:00:43.035> Air<00:00:43.179> Force<00:00:43.372> Academy<00:00:44.705> and<00:00:44.785> I<00:00:44.946> did<00:00:45.122> that<00:00:46.086> for<00:00:46.327> a<00:00:46.471> while.

00:00:47.451 --> 00:00:52.686
But<00:00:48.013> my<00:00:48.238> eyes<00:00:48.575> went<00:00:48.816> bad<00:00:49.137> because<00:00:49.442> I<00:00:49.538> was<00:00:49.876> studying<00:00:50.422> under<00:00:50.582> the<00:00:50.743> covers<00:00:51.128> with<00:00:51.241> a<00:00:51.305> flashlight<00:00:51.947> after<00:00:52.268> midnight.

00:00:53.553 --> 00:00:55.448
So<00:00:53.697> I<00:00:53.858> lost<00:00:54.115> my<00:00:54.356> pilot<00:00:54.677> qualifications.

00:00:55.544 --> 00:00:58.499
So<00:00:55.640> I<00:00:55.721> stayed<00:00:56.122> in<00:00:56.186> the<00:00:56.267> military<00:00:56.780> 6<00:00:57.102> or<00:00:57.182> 7<00:00:57.487> years,<00:00:57.872> had<00:00:57.969> a<00:00:57.985> lot<00:00:58.145> of<00:00:58.290> fun.

00:00:59.414 --> 00:01:04.950
But<00:01:00.296> got<00:01:00.521> out,<00:01:01.981> went<00:01:02.142> to<00:01:02.286> law<00:01:02.463> school,<00:01:03.105> decided<00:01:03.650> that<00:01:03.891> law<00:01:04.132> was<00:01:04.308> a<00:01:04.388> business.

00:01:05.993 --> 00:01:07.117
So,<00:01:06.154> I<00:01:06.234> didn't<00:01:06.539> do<00:01:06.699> that.

00:01:07.261 --> 00:01:09.508
And<00:01:07.357> I<00:01:07.438> started<00:01:07.983> a<00:01:08.080> financial<00:01:08.561> services<00:01:09.123> company.

00:01:10.166 --> 00:01:17.388
We<00:01:10.310> became<00:01:10.952> the<00:01:11.353> fastest-growing<00:01:12.332> company<00:01:12.894> in<00:01:13.038> Florida<00:01:13.440> for<00:01:13.600> a<00:01:13.616> few<00:01:13.841> years<00:01:14.098> in<00:01:14.194> a<00:01:14.242> row,<00:01:15.365> 8th<00:01:15.542> fastest-growing<00:01:16.425> company<00:01:16.826> in<00:01:16.890> the<00:01:16.986> country.

00:01:17.468 --> 00:01:19.442
We<00:01:17.612> had<00:01:17.773> 60<00:01:18.174> offices<00:01:18.671> in<00:01:18.816> 8<00:01:18.976> countries.

00:01:19.554 --> 00:01:24.657
I<00:01:19.634> sold<00:01:20.035> that<00:01:21.143> and<00:01:21.303> then<00:01:21.721> continued<00:01:22.282> investing<00:01:23.149> and<00:01:23.566> doing<00:01:23.967> other<00:01:24.272> things.

00:01:24.850 --> 00:01:36.858
But<00:01:25.652> Because<00:01:26.037> I<00:01:26.053> didn't<00:01:26.277> have<00:01:26.470> an<00:01:26.598> MBA,<00:01:27.640> I<00:01:28.201> joined<00:01:28.762> a<00:01:28.938> peer-to-peer<00:01:29.740> organization<00:01:31.183> called<00:01:31.295> the<00:01:31.423> Young<00:01:31.728> Presidents<00:01:32.305> Organization,<00:01:33.267> and<00:01:33.347> I<00:01:33.507> also<00:01:33.892> joined<00:01:35.014> Vistage<00:01:35.912> at<00:01:36.056> the<00:01:36.088> same<00:01:36.409> time.

00:01:37.531 --> 00:01:43.928
So<00:01:39.599> going<00:01:39.856> to<00:01:40.000> these<00:01:40.305> peer-to-peer<00:01:41.218> organizations<00:01:42.068> was<00:01:42.565> really<00:01:42.870> helpful<00:01:43.607> to<00:01:43.767> me.

00:01:44.954 --> 00:01:50.789
And<00:01:45.050> then<00:01:45.210> I<00:01:45.354> thought<00:01:46.958> I<00:01:46.974> had<00:01:47.134> a<00:01:47.198> chance<00:01:47.775> to<00:01:48.096> do<00:01:48.256> a<00:01:48.416> 1-year<00:01:48.817> leadership<00:01:49.378> fellowship<00:01:50.196> at<00:01:50.324> Harvard.

00:01:51.528 --> 00:01:53.472
And<00:01:51.688> also<00:01:52.042> spent<00:01:52.331> some<00:01:52.508> time<00:01:52.749> at<00:01:52.846> MIT.

00:01:53.713 --> 00:01:56.703
And<00:01:53.874> they<00:01:54.035> have<00:01:55.706> incubation.

00:01:57.008 --> 00:02:00.225
It's<00:01:57.169> called<00:01:57.329> the<00:01:57.490> Venture<00:01:57.876> Incubation<00:01:58.519> Program,<00:01:59.178> 10<00:01:59.419> weeks<00:01:59.660> in<00:01:59.804> the<00:02:00.030> summer.

00:02:00.322 --> 00:02:02.927
About<00:02:01.201> 130<00:02:02.080> teams<00:02:02.422> applied.

00:02:02.975 --> 00:02:03.936
They<00:02:03.073> selected<00:02:03.626> 20.

00:02:04.050 --> 00:02:06.833
And<00:02:04.847> one<00:02:04.961> of<00:02:05.026> the<00:02:05.173> 20<00:02:05.514> teams<00:02:05.840> they<00:02:05.938> selected<00:02:06.475> was<00:02:06.654> mine.

00:02:06.898 --> 00:02:08.319
And<00:02:06.979> this<00:02:07.109> was<00:02:07.286> 2019.

00:02:08.981 --> 00:02:14.403
So<00:02:11.240> I<00:02:11.401> had<00:02:11.676> 2<00:02:11.901> Harvard,<00:02:12.369> 2<00:02:12.531> MIT<00:02:12.870> professors,<00:02:13.515> 10<00:02:13.757> students.

00:02:14.467 --> 00:02:16.404
And<00:02:14.564> that's<00:02:14.887> where<00:02:15.194> the<00:02:15.355> idea<00:02:15.775> came<00:02:16.162> up.

00:02:17.022 --> 00:02:24.040
Of<00:02:17.182> creating<00:02:17.839> a<00:02:17.967> peer-to-peer<00:02:18.608> group<00:02:19.169> for<00:02:20.691> individuals<00:02:21.412> that<00:02:21.572> had<00:02:21.813> created<00:02:22.309> wealth<00:02:22.790> over<00:02:23.014> $100<00:02:23.671> million.

00:02:24.857 --> 00:02:29.070
And<00:02:25.113> we<00:02:25.257> were<00:02:25.418> aligned<00:02:26.395> by<00:02:26.635> values,<00:02:27.356> especially<00:02:27.917> generosity<00:02:28.526> of<00:02:28.558> spirit.

00:02:29.599 --> 00:02:45.669
And<00:02:29.743> we<00:02:29.904> wanted<00:02:30.224> to<00:02:30.384> use<00:02:30.705> our<00:02:31.025> entrepreneurial<00:02:31.906> grit,<00:02:32.948> our<00:02:33.124> wealth,<00:02:33.525> and<00:02:33.589> our<00:02:33.685> family<00:02:34.646> to<00:02:35.287> solve<00:02:35.832> some<00:02:36.072> of<00:02:36.104> the<00:02:36.232> world's<00:02:36.569> most<00:02:36.809> intractable<00:02:37.514> problems,<00:02:39.212> benefiting<00:02:39.773> humanity<00:02:40.494> to<00:02:40.638> heal<00:02:40.814> our<00:02:40.975> planet<00:02:42.096> and<00:02:42.256> to<00:02:42.401> show<00:02:43.202> people<00:02:43.602> that<00:02:43.778> capitalism<00:02:44.580> actually<00:02:44.980> is<00:02:45.124> a<00:02:45.204> good<00:02:45.445> thing.

00:02:46.328 --> 00:02:59.780
And<00:02:46.587> be<00:02:46.893> a<00:02:47.054> role<00:02:47.313> model<00:02:47.651> for<00:02:47.861> other<00:02:48.103> families<00:02:48.684> of<00:02:48.846> wealth<00:02:49.975> that<00:02:50.282> can<00:02:50.943> use<00:02:51.347> their<00:02:51.669> wealth,<00:02:52.008> family,<00:02:52.476> and<00:02:52.637> their<00:02:52.815> talent<00:02:54.090> to<00:02:54.493> make<00:02:54.735> a<00:02:54.816> change<00:02:55.284> in<00:02:55.380> their<00:02:55.510> local<00:02:55.785> community,<00:02:57.079> in<00:02:57.160> their<00:02:57.305> state,<00:02:58.373> in<00:02:58.454> their<00:02:58.696> country,<00:02:59.246> and<00:02:59.344> in<00:02:59.424> the<00:02:59.570> world.

00:03:00.007 --> 00:03:01.738
So,<00:03:00.476> that<00:03:00.783> was<00:03:01.107> the<00:03:01.285> idea.

00:03:03.082 --> 00:03:09.071
And<00:03:03.390> YPO<00:03:03.894> and<00:03:04.040> Vistage<00:03:04.705> and<00:03:05.013> EO<00:03:05.435> and<00:03:05.582> organizations<00:03:06.247> like<00:03:06.490> that<00:03:06.799> are<00:03:07.042> how<00:03:07.140> do<00:03:07.286> you<00:03:07.383> become<00:03:07.724> a<00:03:07.870> better<00:03:08.195> chief<00:03:08.373> executive<00:03:08.909> officer.

00:03:10.979 --> 00:03:16.872
But<00:03:12.423> We<00:03:12.683> believe<00:03:13.592> our<00:03:13.998> secret<00:03:14.453> sauce<00:03:14.940> is<00:03:15.102> that<00:03:15.427> wealth<00:03:15.784> is<00:03:16.011> more<00:03:16.320> than<00:03:16.645> money.

00:03:19.178 --> 00:03:25.615
They<00:03:19.275> say<00:03:20.891> if<00:03:21.100> you<00:03:21.678> give<00:03:22.719> a<00:03:22.739> man<00:03:23.060> a<00:03:23.108> fish,<00:03:24.812> you<00:03:24.892> feed<00:03:25.133> him<00:03:25.278> for<00:03:25.374> the<00:03:25.535> day.

00:03:26.419 --> 00:03:28.893
You<00:03:26.901> teach<00:03:27.126> him<00:03:27.222> how<00:03:27.319> to<00:03:27.447> fish,<00:03:27.769> you<00:03:27.849> feed<00:03:28.010> him<00:03:28.106> for<00:03:28.251> a<00:03:28.267> lifetime.

00:03:28.990 --> 00:03:40.118
And<00:03:29.135> the<00:03:29.360> fishes<00:03:30.522> that<00:03:30.748> we're<00:03:30.909> trying<00:03:31.167> to<00:03:31.248> get<00:03:31.393> our<00:03:31.490> families<00:03:32.055> to<00:03:32.184> master<00:03:32.927> are<00:03:32.959> not<00:03:33.250> only<00:03:33.427> financial<00:03:33.976> capital,<00:03:35.106> it's<00:03:35.445> intellectual,<00:03:36.801> social,<00:03:37.689> human,<00:03:38.480> emotional,<00:03:39.315> and<00:03:39.430> spiritual.

00:03:41.017 --> 00:03:45.491
And<00:03:41.418> our<00:03:42.140> meetings<00:03:42.973> are<00:03:43.182> thematic<00:03:43.904> around<00:03:44.224> those<00:03:44.417> 6<00:03:45.123> things.

00:03:45.604 --> 00:04:00.647
And<00:03:45.684> at<00:03:45.780> the<00:03:45.924> end<00:03:46.085> of<00:03:46.149> the<00:03:46.229> meeting,<00:03:47.592> you<00:03:47.689> have<00:03:47.913> to<00:03:48.009> tell<00:03:48.250> everyone<00:03:48.571> in<00:03:48.651> the<00:03:48.731> group,<00:03:49.132> based<00:03:49.453> on<00:03:49.597> what<00:03:49.693> I've<00:03:49.854> learned<00:03:50.094> today,<00:03:50.896> before<00:03:51.377> the<00:03:51.522> next<00:03:51.858> meeting<00:03:52.179> in<00:03:52.259> 12<00:03:52.644> months,<00:03:53.687> I<00:03:53.767> want<00:03:53.847> to<00:03:53.943> be<00:03:54.168> held<00:03:54.601> accountable<00:03:55.146> to<00:03:55.307> do<00:03:55.547> things,<00:03:56.590> these<00:03:56.830> things<00:03:57.071> for<00:03:57.167> myself,<00:03:57.792> my<00:03:57.889> spouse,<00:03:59.075> my<00:03:59.220> children,<00:03:59.781> my<00:03:59.942> grandchildren.

00:04:00.824 --> 00:04:09.853
And<00:04:00.920> as<00:04:01.160> the<00:04:01.241> patriarch<00:04:01.898> or<00:04:02.026> matriarch,<00:04:03.470> you're<00:04:03.791> constantly,<00:04:05.475> you<00:04:05.507> know,<00:04:05.715> we're<00:04:05.811> lifelong<00:04:06.292> learners<00:04:06.774> and<00:04:06.934> we're<00:04:07.078> trying<00:04:07.415> to<00:04:07.880> up<00:04:07.976> our<00:04:08.217> game<00:04:08.618> by<00:04:08.762> the<00:04:08.939> things<00:04:09.179> that<00:04:09.340> we<00:04:09.564> learn.

00:04:10.622 --> 00:04:13.396
From<00:04:10.927> other<00:04:11.103> people<00:04:11.504> in<00:04:11.568> the<00:04:11.665> group<00:04:12.450> and<00:04:12.867> they're<00:04:13.107> doing.

00:04:13.524 --> 00:04:20.642
So<00:04:15.095> my<00:04:15.352> goal<00:04:15.752> is<00:04:15.897> to<00:04:16.057> touch<00:04:16.859> 3<00:04:17.035> billion<00:04:17.436> people<00:04:17.740> on<00:04:17.820> the<00:04:17.917> planet<00:04:18.381> in<00:04:18.478> a<00:04:18.510> positive<00:04:19.279> way,<00:04:19.504> and<00:04:19.584> I<00:04:19.680> can't<00:04:19.920> do<00:04:20.017> it<00:04:20.097> on<00:04:20.161> my<00:04:20.385> own.

00:04:21.283 --> 00:04:44.777
So<00:04:22.646> we<00:04:22.806> decided<00:04:23.447> we're<00:04:23.608> going<00:04:23.768> to<00:04:23.848> go<00:04:23.912> out<00:04:23.992> and<00:04:24.249> recruit<00:04:24.730> 1,000<00:04:25.708> superheroes<00:04:26.653> globally,<00:04:28.337> 500<00:04:28.898> in<00:04:28.978> the<00:04:29.058> US<00:04:29.539> and<00:04:29.619> 500<00:04:30.437> abroad,<00:04:31.607> and<00:04:31.687> have<00:04:31.880> a<00:04:31.944> philanthropic<00:04:32.745> platform<00:04:33.531> where<00:04:33.691> we<00:04:33.867> can<00:04:34.268> assist<00:04:34.909> individuals<00:04:36.433> with<00:04:36.593> their<00:04:36.978> and<00:04:37.075> their<00:04:37.155> family's<00:04:37.717> philanthropic<00:04:38.423> goals,<00:04:38.840> whatever<00:04:39.145> they<00:04:39.241> may<00:04:39.466> be,<00:04:40.525> but<00:04:40.669> also<00:04:41.070> encourage<00:04:41.905> our<00:04:42.049> members<00:04:42.691> to<00:04:42.916> think<00:04:43.172> not<00:04:43.397> only<00:04:43.574> about<00:04:43.895> giving<00:04:44.216> away<00:04:44.472> money.

00:04:45.483 --> 00:04:56.491
I<00:04:45.499> was<00:04:45.724> on<00:04:45.820> the<00:04:45.900> Florida<00:04:46.237> State<00:04:46.542> Board<00:04:46.719> of<00:04:46.847> Education,<00:04:48.147> and<00:04:48.243> in<00:04:48.307> the<00:04:48.388> 6<00:04:48.789> years<00:04:49.671> that<00:04:50.057> I<00:04:50.217> was<00:04:50.394> there<00:04:50.714> as<00:04:50.875> an<00:04:51.019> entrepreneur,<00:04:51.677> I<00:04:51.822> was<00:04:51.982> able<00:04:52.303> to<00:04:52.480> transform<00:04:53.282> key<00:04:53.587> parts<00:04:54.790> of<00:04:54.887> the<00:04:54.967> Florida<00:04:55.432> education<00:04:56.026> system.

00:04:57.374 --> 00:05:06.713
I<00:04:57.599> led<00:04:57.775> the<00:04:57.936> reading<00:04:58.337> task<00:04:58.722> force<00:04:59.123> for<00:04:59.219> the<00:04:59.300> governor,<00:05:00.343> and<00:05:00.423> now<00:05:00.647> in<00:05:00.728> the<00:05:00.760> state<00:05:01.129> of<00:05:01.209> Florida,<00:05:01.931> African<00:05:02.284> American<00:05:02.990> 4th<00:05:03.472> graders<00:05:04.258> read<00:05:04.579> better<00:05:04.836> than<00:05:04.996> whites<00:05:05.638> in<00:05:05.799> 33<00:05:06.264> states.

00:05:07.162 --> 00:05:11.504
Latinos<00:05:07.787> have<00:05:07.883> the<00:05:07.963> highest<00:05:09.085> graduation<00:05:09.806> rates<00:05:10.271> from<00:05:11.072> high<00:05:11.168> school.

00:05:12.129 --> 00:05:14.869
When<00:05:12.274> I<00:05:12.370> got<00:05:12.690> there,<00:05:13.155> a<00:05:13.315> third<00:05:13.507> of<00:05:13.636> them<00:05:13.796> were<00:05:13.892> dropping<00:05:14.277> out<00:05:14.389> of<00:05:14.437> high<00:05:14.613> school.

00:05:14.934 --> 00:05:40.537

So<00:05:42.554> what<00:05:42.634> does<00:05:42.780> that<00:05:43.022> actually<00:05:43.360> look<00:05:43.490> like?

00:05:43.685 --> 00:05:48.934
Like,<00:05:43.912> what<00:05:44.188> are<00:05:44.335> some<00:05:44.513> of<00:05:44.562> the<00:05:44.660> projects<00:05:45.147> you've<00:05:45.456> come<00:05:45.635> together<00:05:46.123> on<00:05:46.383> as<00:05:46.610> leaders<00:05:47.325> to<00:05:48.154> make<00:05:48.479> a<00:05:48.544> difference?

00:05:50.750 --> 00:05:53.630
So<00:05:50.944> we<00:05:51.089> don't,<00:05:52.141> you<00:05:52.222> know,<00:05:52.384> everybody<00:05:52.724> does<00:05:52.967> their<00:05:53.193> own<00:05:53.355> thing.

00:05:53.695 --> 00:06:01.094
What<00:05:53.857> we<00:05:54.019> do<00:05:54.326> is<00:05:54.488> we<00:05:54.585> supercharge<00:05:55.298> them,<00:05:55.476> give<00:05:55.637> them<00:05:55.783> platforms,<00:05:57.321> but<00:05:58.632> depending<00:05:59.182> on<00:06:00.320> what<00:06:00.562> you're<00:06:00.804> doing.

00:06:01.142 --> 00:06:03.530
And<00:06:01.223> as<00:06:01.465> we<00:06:01.707> grow,<00:06:02.272> it's<00:06:02.433> going<00:06:02.546> to<00:06:02.675> be<00:06:02.836> pretty<00:06:03.159> amazing.

00:06:03.643 --> 00:06:14.016
I<00:06:03.724> was<00:06:03.869> just<00:06:04.192> interviewing<00:06:04.692> a<00:06:04.756> potential<00:06:05.256> member<00:06:06.563> about<00:06:07.257> their<00:06:07.434> philanthropic<00:06:08.160> goals,<00:06:08.644> and<00:06:08.725> I<00:06:08.741> said,<00:06:09.032> well,<00:06:09.193> I'm<00:06:09.241> going<00:06:09.322> to<00:06:09.370> have<00:06:09.500> to<00:06:09.597> connect<00:06:09.938> you<00:06:10.019> with<00:06:10.101> this<00:06:10.344> person<00:06:10.669> and<00:06:10.750> that<00:06:10.994> person<00:06:11.400> because<00:06:11.725> they're<00:06:11.969> in<00:06:12.050> the<00:06:12.147> same<00:06:12.732> space.

00:06:16.600 --> 00:06:28.358
And<00:06:16.828> then,<00:06:17.234> you<00:06:17.266> know,<00:06:17.477> if<00:06:17.575> we<00:06:17.721> have<00:06:18.127> 8<00:06:18.793> individuals<00:06:19.426> that<00:06:19.588> want<00:06:19.669> to<00:06:19.767> take<00:06:20.010> plastics<00:06:20.579> out<00:06:20.676> of<00:06:20.741> the<00:06:20.887> ocean,<00:06:21.940> then<00:06:22.768> why<00:06:22.882> don't<00:06:23.045> they<00:06:23.175> work<00:06:23.435> together<00:06:25.043> and<00:06:25.222> bring<00:06:25.482> something<00:06:26.034> to<00:06:26.181> that<00:06:26.441> space<00:06:27.091> that's<00:06:27.481> still<00:06:28.147> needed?

00:06:29.683 --> 00:06:36.636
And<00:06:29.827> think<00:06:30.388> about<00:06:30.708> it<00:06:30.804> in<00:06:30.884> a<00:06:30.948> very<00:06:31.269> entrepreneurial,<00:06:32.166> thoughtful<00:06:32.711> way<00:06:33.848> and<00:06:34.008> not<00:06:34.329> duplicate<00:06:35.274> things<00:06:35.594> that<00:06:35.706> already<00:06:36.091> exist.

00:06:37.309 --> 00:06:40.176
So,<00:06:37.693> it's<00:06:37.997> really<00:06:38.414> that<00:06:39.840> thought.

00:06:40.320 --> 00:06:50.157
I<00:06:40.353> mean,<00:06:40.817> things<00:06:41.122> that<00:06:41.282> we<00:06:41.458> are<00:06:41.762> doing<00:06:42.403> actively<00:06:42.980> right<00:06:43.236> now,<00:06:44.406> we're<00:06:44.486> going<00:06:44.582> to<00:06:44.662> go<00:06:45.143> to<00:06:45.623> Dharmasala<00:06:46.585> where<00:06:46.969> the<00:06:48.587> 14th<00:06:49.228> Dalai<00:06:49.548> Lama<00:06:49.869> lives.

00:06:50.494 --> 00:06:53.185
It's<00:06:50.670> going<00:06:50.750> to<00:06:50.830> be<00:06:50.910> his<00:06:51.070> 90th<00:06:51.471> birthday<00:06:51.952> in<00:06:52.112> the<00:06:52.192> summer<00:06:52.592> of<00:06:52.673> next<00:06:53.009> year.

00:06:54.178 --> 00:06:59.401
And<00:06:54.355> he's<00:06:54.755> gifted<00:06:55.220> all<00:06:55.396> the<00:06:55.556> intellectual<00:06:56.037> property<00:06:56.822> to<00:06:57.383> a<00:06:57.463> friend<00:06:57.703> of<00:06:57.815> mine<00:06:58.200> that<00:06:58.360> runs<00:06:58.600> a<00:06:58.616> nonprofit.

00:07:00.267 --> 00:07:10.835
And<00:07:01.069> they<00:07:01.390> want,<00:07:01.903> or<00:07:02.063> he<00:07:02.352> wants<00:07:03.651> to<00:07:04.308> affect<00:07:04.838> children<00:07:05.447> nationwide<00:07:06.538> by<00:07:06.762> giving<00:07:07.323> them<00:07:08.943> peace,<00:07:09.585> compassion,<00:07:10.467> empathy.

00:07:11.429 --> 00:07:15.198
So<00:07:11.589> the<00:07:11.750> idea<00:07:12.231> is<00:07:12.391> that<00:07:12.535> they<00:07:12.632> can<00:07:12.936> ask<00:07:13.193> questions<00:07:13.979> to<00:07:14.155> an<00:07:14.380> AI<00:07:14.716> agent.

00:07:15.679 --> 00:07:25.269
It<00:07:15.823> will<00:07:15.983> respond<00:07:16.577> in<00:07:16.705> his<00:07:16.962> voice<00:07:17.443> in<00:07:17.587> any<00:07:17.763> language<00:07:19.111> and<00:07:19.351> really<00:07:20.153> focused<00:07:20.875> on<00:07:22.093> developing<00:07:22.735> these<00:07:22.959> values<00:07:23.537> with,<00:07:23.938> you<00:07:24.018> know,<00:07:24.114> in<00:07:24.258> children<00:07:24.724> nationwide.

00:07:25.798 --> 00:07:29.957
So<00:07:26.087> that's<00:07:26.424> the<00:07:26.585> type<00:07:26.890> of<00:07:26.986> project<00:07:27.693> that<00:07:29.234> I<00:07:29.315> want<00:07:29.443> to<00:07:29.475> get<00:07:29.636> behind.

00:07:30.021 --> 00:07:34.533
We<00:07:30.085> already<00:07:30.342> have<00:07:30.599> 2<00:07:31.563> members<00:07:32.028> with<00:07:32.189> AI<00:07:32.510> companies<00:07:33.152> that<00:07:33.409> would<00:07:33.489> like<00:07:33.730> to<00:07:33.810> get<00:07:33.971> behind<00:07:34.372> it.

00:07:35.400 --> 00:07:46.062
I'm<00:07:35.448> going<00:07:35.561> to<00:07:35.641> go<00:07:35.753> with<00:07:35.898> my<00:07:36.123> wife<00:07:36.460> and<00:07:36.781> other<00:07:36.942> members<00:07:37.423> in<00:07:37.568> May<00:07:38.933> to<00:07:39.077> meet<00:07:39.270> him<00:07:39.430> personally<00:07:40.458> at<00:07:40.490> his<00:07:40.699> home<00:07:41.742> and<00:07:41.919> see<00:07:42.256> if<00:07:42.401> we<00:07:42.642> can<00:07:43.589> push<00:07:43.846> that<00:07:44.087> project<00:07:45.532> forward.

00:07:46.656 --> 00:07:50.798
But,<00:07:47.202> you<00:07:47.298> know,<00:07:47.362> I<00:07:47.523> would<00:07:47.635> say<00:07:48.101> every<00:07:48.342> single<00:07:48.759> member<00:07:49.209> has<00:07:49.450> 4<00:07:49.626> or<00:07:49.771> 5<00:07:50.188> of<00:07:50.333> their<00:07:50.493> own.

00:07:51.472 --> 00:07:53.555
Projects<00:07:52.113> that<00:07:52.273> are<00:07:52.353> really<00:07:52.594> important<00:07:53.074> to<00:07:53.235> them.

00:07:54.116 --> 00:07:57.128
Some<00:07:54.533> are,<00:07:54.821> you<00:07:54.853> know,<00:07:54.917> and<00:07:55.222> a<00:07:55.238> lot<00:07:55.478> has<00:07:55.798> to<00:07:55.879> do<00:07:56.039> with<00:07:56.263> our<00:07:56.423> life<00:07:56.600> story.

00:07:58.442 --> 00:08:03.907
Our<00:07:58.619> members,<00:08:00.221> 16<00:08:01.167> of<00:08:01.247> our<00:08:01.343> members<00:08:02.849> did<00:08:02.945> not<00:08:03.170> go<00:08:03.250> to<00:08:03.330> college.

00:08:04.756 --> 00:08:07.913
9<00:08:05.092> of<00:08:05.189> our<00:08:05.333> members<00:08:06.374> dropped<00:08:06.759> out<00:08:06.951> of<00:08:07.256> high<00:08:07.656> school.

00:08:08.938 --> 00:08:17.671
But<00:08:09.098> a<00:08:09.114> lot<00:08:09.435> of<00:08:09.579> them<00:08:09.803> were<00:08:09.900> scarred<00:08:10.557> early<00:08:10.941> in<00:08:11.085> life<00:08:12.223> with<00:08:12.383> extreme<00:08:12.928> poverty<00:08:14.386> where,<00:08:15.107> you<00:08:15.187> know,<00:08:15.332> they<00:08:15.428> didn't<00:08:16.453> eat<00:08:16.726> 7<00:08:17.110> days<00:08:17.415> a<00:08:17.431> week.

00:08:17.880 --> 00:08:18.794
They<00:08:17.976> were<00:08:18.088> so<00:08:18.393> poor.

00:08:19.356 --> 00:08:39.382
And<00:08:19.500> something<00:08:19.982> went<00:08:20.142> off<00:08:20.399> in<00:08:20.479> their<00:08:21.763> brain<00:08:22.228> that<00:08:22.389> said,<00:08:23.544> "No<00:08:23.688> freaking<00:08:24.073> way,<00:08:24.250> this<00:08:24.330> is<00:08:24.555> not<00:08:24.731> going<00:08:24.844> to<00:08:24.956> be<00:08:25.052> my<00:08:25.277> life."<00:08:25.935> And<00:08:26.095> they,<00:08:27.459> because<00:08:27.925> of<00:08:28.502> this<00:08:28.743> painful<00:08:29.160> trauma,<00:08:29.770> created<00:08:30.187> great<00:08:30.492> wealth,<00:08:30.829> but<00:08:30.990> they<00:08:31.134> have<00:08:31.310> a<00:08:31.391> spirit<00:08:31.888> of<00:08:32.033> generosity<00:08:32.835> where<00:08:32.995> they<00:08:33.300> want<00:08:33.637> to<00:08:35.001> make<00:08:35.402> sure<00:08:35.964> that<00:08:36.349> these<00:08:36.606> things<00:08:36.927> don't<00:08:37.151> happen<00:08:37.649> to<00:08:39.077> others.

00:08:39.831 --> 00:08:42.350
So,<00:08:40.377> yes,<00:08:40.778> we're<00:08:40.938> very<00:08:41.243> difficult<00:08:41.741> to<00:08:41.821> get<00:08:42.046> into.

00:08:43.249 --> 00:08:55.953
The<00:08:43.490> membership<00:08:43.971> committee,<00:08:44.308> which<00:08:44.533> I'm<00:08:44.693> not<00:08:44.934> on,<00:08:46.780> has<00:08:47.023> turned<00:08:47.282> down<00:08:47.524> 72<00:08:48.155> members,<00:08:48.576> including<00:08:49.061> 9<00:08:49.304> billionaires,<00:08:50.760> not<00:08:50.922> because<00:08:51.148> they<00:08:51.197> didn't<00:08:51.407> have<00:08:51.569> the<00:08:51.731> wealth,<00:08:52.135> but<00:08:52.297> the<00:08:52.459> values<00:08:53.187> didn't<00:08:54.141> quite<00:08:54.400> align<00:08:55.047> with<00:08:55.209> what<00:08:55.274> we're<00:08:55.420> looking<00:08:55.686> for.

00:08:57.959 --> 00:08:58.913
That's<00:08:58.137> super<00:08:58.460> interesting.

00:08:59.107 --> 00:09:02.356
And<00:08:59.252> so,<00:09:00.707> how<00:09:00.820> many<00:09:01.030> members—<00:09:01.289> you're<00:09:01.451> trying<00:09:01.628> to<00:09:01.709> get<00:09:01.839> to<00:09:01.871> 1,000.

00:09:02.404 --> 00:09:03.019
How<00:09:02.437> many<00:09:02.663> do<00:09:02.711> you<00:09:02.744> have<00:09:02.922> now?

00:09:03.310 --> 00:09:04.538
Or<00:09:03.390> maybe<00:09:04.037> you<00:09:04.199> don't<00:09:04.344> want<00:09:04.425> to<00:09:04.457> say.

00:09:04.603 --> 00:09:10.886
We<00:09:04.829> have<00:09:07.247> 2<00:09:07.569> new<00:09:07.682> members<00:09:08.213> were<00:09:08.294> just<00:09:08.551> approved<00:09:08.954> by<00:09:09.099> the<00:09:09.163> membership<00:09:10.484> committee.

00:09:10.983 --> 00:09:14.719
So,<00:09:11.531> that<00:09:11.772> would<00:09:11.853> be<00:09:11.981> 136<00:09:13.543> when<00:09:13.704> they<00:09:13.930> come<00:09:14.171> on<00:09:14.413> board.

00:09:15.428 --> 00:09:18.361
We<00:09:15.589> have<00:09:15.766> about<00:09:16.105> 8<00:09:16.250> or<00:09:16.411> 9<00:09:16.814> in<00:09:16.975> the<00:09:17.862> pipeline.

00:09:18.426 --> 00:09:24.633
It<00:09:18.506> takes<00:09:18.764> us<00:09:18.909> about<00:09:19.216> 6<00:09:19.554> weeks<00:09:20.682> to<00:09:21.150> clear<00:09:21.956> a<00:09:21.988> member<00:09:22.616> and<00:09:22.778> do<00:09:23.019> all<00:09:23.729> the<00:09:23.826> due<00:09:23.987> diligence.

00:09:25.924 --> 00:09:26.247
I<00:09:26.021> see.

00:09:27.376 --> 00:09:28.893
How<00:09:27.925> are<00:09:28.086> you<00:09:28.183> thinking<00:09:28.490> about<00:09:28.570> AI?

00:09:28.974 --> 00:09:31.185
You<00:09:29.038> mentioned<00:09:29.313> that<00:09:29.555> in<00:09:29.636> that<00:09:29.797> project<00:09:30.281> with<00:09:30.426> the<00:09:30.523> Dalai<00:09:30.830> Lama.

00:09:31.734 --> 00:09:37.340
How<00:09:31.976> are<00:09:32.298> you<00:09:32.932> and<00:09:33.440> the<00:09:33.604> leaders<00:09:33.997> within<00:09:34.243> your<00:09:34.341> organization<00:09:35.062> thinking<00:09:35.341> about<00:09:35.717> how<00:09:35.914> it's<00:09:36.062> going<00:09:36.176> to<00:09:36.291> transform<00:09:36.946> the<00:09:37.045> world?

00:09:38.967 --> 00:09:55.462
So<00:09:39.226> we've<00:09:39.468> been<00:09:39.630> on<00:09:39.792> top<00:09:40.116> of<00:09:40.148> this<00:09:40.424> for<00:09:40.666> 3<00:09:40.925> or<00:09:40.990> 4<00:09:41.395> years,<00:09:42.123> and<00:09:42.528> I<00:09:42.641> made<00:09:43.111> a<00:09:43.499> commitment<00:09:44.978> after<00:09:45.780> an<00:09:46.037> Intellectual<00:09:46.583> Capital<00:09:46.984> meeting<00:09:47.322> a<00:09:47.402> few<00:09:47.707> years<00:09:47.964> ago<00:09:49.248> to<00:09:50.870> spend<00:09:51.255> 4<00:09:51.560> hours<00:09:51.914> a<00:09:52.042> day,<00:09:52.283> which<00:09:52.459> I<00:09:52.604> have,<00:09:53.808> probably<00:09:54.001> more<00:09:54.306> than<00:09:54.466> that,<00:09:54.932> on<00:09:55.028> AI.

00:09:55.590 --> 00:10:00.680
So<00:09:56.136> I<00:09:56.377> have<00:09:56.714> now<00:09:57.035> about<00:09:57.437> 2,000<00:09:58.159> hours<00:09:59.989> learning<00:10:00.391> AI.

00:10:01.354 --> 00:10:10.233
And<00:10:01.515> I<00:10:01.868> got<00:10:02.478> really<00:10:02.735> good<00:10:02.912> advice<00:10:03.682> early<00:10:04.019> on<00:10:04.983> because<00:10:05.368> I<00:10:05.545> had<00:10:05.850> like<00:10:06.765> 10<00:10:07.054> platforms<00:10:07.712> that<00:10:07.857> I<00:10:07.953> wanted<00:10:08.258> to<00:10:08.354> learn<00:10:08.756> that<00:10:08.916> I<00:10:08.997> thought<00:10:09.237> would<00:10:09.382> make<00:10:09.623> me<00:10:09.719> efficient.

00:10:10.763 --> 00:10:11.951
In<00:10:10.859> certain<00:10:11.229> things<00:10:11.470> that<00:10:11.630> I<00:10:11.726> do.

00:10:12.208 --> 00:10:17.846
And<00:10:12.305> somebody<00:10:12.770> said,<00:10:13.252> look,<00:10:13.493> instead<00:10:13.879> of<00:10:13.975> going<00:10:15.260> to<00:10:15.420> 10<00:10:15.661> platforms,<00:10:16.304> you're<00:10:16.609> really<00:10:16.866> never<00:10:17.171> going<00:10:17.251> to<00:10:17.348> go<00:10:17.589> deep.

00:10:17.990 --> 00:10:18.681
Pick<00:10:18.376> one.

00:10:19.195 --> 00:10:25.426
And<00:10:19.339> his<00:10:19.532> advice<00:10:19.998> was<00:10:20.158> ChatGPT<00:10:21.748> and<00:10:22.070> really<00:10:22.471> go<00:10:22.728> deep<00:10:23.033> because<00:10:23.451> what's<00:10:23.628> happening<00:10:24.254> is<00:10:24.414> they're<00:10:24.575> making<00:10:24.961> changes.

00:10:25.475 --> 00:10:28.012
Some<00:10:25.764> they<00:10:25.924> announce,<00:10:26.326> some<00:10:26.502> they<00:10:26.663> just<00:10:27.611> make.

00:10:28.108 --> 00:10:32.413
And<00:10:28.189> you're<00:10:28.349> going<00:10:28.430> to<00:10:28.510> be<00:10:28.671> able<00:10:29.008> day<00:10:29.233> to<00:10:29.377> day<00:10:29.554> to<00:10:30.261> really<00:10:30.534> evaluate<00:10:31.786> the<00:10:31.947> changes.

00:10:33.312 --> 00:10:39.206
So<00:10:33.409> I<00:10:33.489> did<00:10:33.649> that<00:10:33.890> for<00:10:34.035> about<00:10:34.597> a<00:10:34.693> year<00:10:35.802> and<00:10:35.962> I<00:10:36.139> kept<00:10:36.524> on<00:10:36.862> and<00:10:37.006> then<00:10:37.167> I<00:10:37.199> added<00:10:37.809> Claude<00:10:38.211> 3<00:10:38.709> Anthropic.

00:10:40.057 --> 00:10:53.918
And<00:10:41.116> then<00:10:41.276> what<00:10:41.437> I've<00:10:41.613> done<00:10:41.902> in<00:10:41.998> the<00:10:42.078> last<00:10:42.704> 4<00:10:42.881> months<00:10:44.068> is<00:10:44.469> one<00:10:44.581> of<00:10:44.661> our<00:10:44.790> members<00:10:46.394> who's<00:10:46.554> had<00:10:46.827> $2<00:10:47.116> billion<00:10:47.693> exits<00:10:49.057> put<00:10:49.763> a<00:10:49.779> lot<00:10:50.004> of<00:10:50.036> his<00:10:50.324> own<00:10:50.421> money<00:10:50.741> into<00:10:50.966> creating<00:10:51.367> an<00:10:51.463> AI<00:10:51.848> company,<00:10:52.249> already<00:10:52.506> has<00:10:52.651> 180<00:10:53.276> employees.

00:10:54.511 --> 00:11:06.897
And<00:10:54.656> he<00:10:54.752> has<00:10:54.993> a<00:10:55.073> platform<00:10:56.517> where<00:10:56.902> you<00:10:57.078> can<00:10:57.319> now<00:10:58.667> say,<00:10:58.939> okay,<00:10:59.388> this<00:10:59.565> is<00:10:59.629> going<00:10:59.725> to<00:10:59.806> be<00:10:59.902> my<00:11:00.126> prompt,<00:11:01.233> but<00:11:01.330> you<00:11:01.474> can<00:11:01.650> give<00:11:01.827> it<00:11:01.971> to<00:11:02.068> like<00:11:02.292> 5<00:11:02.709> different<00:11:03.094> models<00:11:04.923> and<00:11:05.324> you<00:11:05.421> can<00:11:06.448> fidget.

00:11:07.411 --> 00:11:12.164
You<00:11:07.508> can<00:11:07.652> set<00:11:08.053> the<00:11:08.134> model<00:11:09.499> and<00:11:09.675> then<00:11:09.900> you<00:11:09.996> can<00:11:10.141> see<00:11:10.382> who<00:11:10.542> gives<00:11:10.719> you<00:11:10.863> the<00:11:10.960> best<00:11:11.441> response.

00:11:12.469 --> 00:11:18.346
And<00:11:12.822> some<00:11:13.208> models<00:11:14.251> you<00:11:14.412> can<00:11:14.637> put<00:11:14.974> 100,000<00:11:16.563> words<00:11:16.901> in,<00:11:17.302> others<00:11:17.848> you<00:11:17.944> can't.

00:11:19.004 --> 00:11:25.764
So<00:11:19.935> they've<00:11:20.128> assigned<00:11:20.513> me<00:11:20.658> a<00:11:20.674> software<00:11:21.220> engineer<00:11:22.681> that<00:11:22.826> I've<00:11:22.922> been<00:11:23.066> working<00:11:23.468> with<00:11:23.789> who<00:11:23.885> has<00:11:24.206> 12<00:11:24.544> years<00:11:25.073> in<00:11:25.475> AI.

00:11:27.097 --> 00:11:35.716
But<00:11:27.177> the<00:11:27.257> funny<00:11:27.578> thing<00:11:27.883> is<00:11:28.060> now<00:11:28.686> I'm<00:11:28.927> the<00:11:29.104> one<00:11:29.409> teaching<00:11:29.890> my<00:11:30.067> own<00:11:30.292> children<00:11:32.318> 21<00:11:33.115> to<00:11:33.603> 30,<00:11:35.050> how<00:11:35.228> to<00:11:35.375> use<00:11:35.635> AI.

00:11:35.797 --> 00:11:37.066
And<00:11:36.139> I'm<00:11:36.285> giving<00:11:36.497> him<00:11:36.675> classes.

00:11:39.359 --> 00:11:47.263
And<00:11:40.410> the<00:11:40.507> big<00:11:40.734> irony,<00:11:41.316> there's<00:11:41.542> a<00:11:41.623> guy<00:11:42.286> that<00:11:42.432> I<00:11:42.464> met<00:11:42.852> recently<00:11:44.372> at<00:11:44.793> peer-to-peer<00:11:46.329> groups<00:11:46.540> for<00:11:46.716> creatives.

00:11:48.484 --> 00:11:50.026
Johnny<00:11:48.805> Ives<00:11:49.142> is<00:11:49.303> part<00:11:49.560> of<00:11:49.624> the<00:11:49.705> group.

00:11:50.090 --> 00:11:54.396
This<00:11:50.267> guy<00:11:50.492> invented<00:11:50.990> Siri<00:11:53.320> and<00:11:53.400> it<00:11:53.480> was<00:11:53.641> bought<00:11:53.882> by<00:11:54.107> Apple.

00:11:54.525 --> 00:12:03.362
And<00:11:54.605> then<00:11:54.750> he<00:11:54.910> went<00:11:55.151> off<00:11:55.344> to<00:11:55.473> Apple,<00:11:55.890> but<00:11:56.115> he<00:11:56.198> was<00:11:56.395> a<00:11:56.468> Stanford<00:11:57.150> professor,<00:11:58.610> and<00:12:00.216> he<00:12:00.697> lives<00:12:00.874> in<00:12:00.954> Hawaii<00:12:01.275> now,<00:12:01.532> and<00:12:01.661> he's<00:12:01.821> having<00:12:02.463> a<00:12:02.720> heart<00:12:02.945> operation.

00:12:04.390 --> 00:12:12.994
And<00:12:05.192> I<00:12:05.353> had<00:12:05.770> told<00:12:05.995> him<00:12:06.107> some<00:12:06.316> things<00:12:06.573> about<00:12:06.894> AI,<00:12:08.580> and<00:12:08.724> he<00:12:08.820> wanted<00:12:09.222> some<00:12:09.447> help<00:12:09.784> with<00:12:10.008> what<00:12:10.185> he<00:12:10.346> was<00:12:10.586> being<00:12:10.907> told<00:12:11.325> to<00:12:11.550> do<00:12:11.855> by<00:12:11.951> his<00:12:12.256> heart<00:12:12.593> doctor.

00:12:13.717 --> 00:12:23.782
So<00:12:13.797> what<00:12:13.942> I<00:12:14.118> tell<00:12:14.423> people<00:12:14.841> is<00:12:14.985> that<00:12:15.162> when<00:12:15.258> you<00:12:15.402> go<00:12:15.547> to<00:12:15.643> ChatGPT<00:12:16.366> and<00:12:16.446> you<00:12:16.590> ask<00:12:16.767> a<00:12:16.847> question,<00:12:17.345> it's<00:12:17.489> like<00:12:17.794> asking<00:12:18.132> someone<00:12:18.533> in<00:12:18.613> a<00:12:18.693> bar<00:12:19.336> or<00:12:19.480> a<00:12:19.576> bus<00:12:19.769> stop,<00:12:21.487> and<00:12:21.583> that's<00:12:21.888> the<00:12:21.968> quality<00:12:22.466> of<00:12:22.546> response<00:12:23.172> that<00:12:23.269> you're<00:12:23.333> going<00:12:23.429> to<00:12:23.590> get.

00:12:24.476 --> 00:12:33.411
So<00:12:24.784> I<00:12:24.881> went<00:12:25.043> to<00:12:25.205> ChatGPT<00:12:26.097> and<00:12:26.194> I<00:12:26.275> said,<00:12:28.740> "Who<00:12:28.788> are<00:12:28.820> the<00:12:28.868> 5<00:12:29.335> best<00:12:29.964> heart<00:12:30.205> surgeons<00:12:30.705> in<00:12:30.785> the<00:12:30.866> US?"<00:12:31.736> Then<00:12:31.832> it<00:12:31.993> gives<00:12:32.219> you<00:12:32.541> a<00:12:32.573> list<00:12:32.815> of<00:12:32.879> 5<00:12:33.266> names.

00:12:34.232 --> 00:12:36.359
Then<00:12:34.393> I<00:12:34.426> said,<00:12:34.796> "Okay,<00:12:35.376> 5<00:12:35.618> heart<00:12:35.875> surgeons.

00:12:36.439 --> 00:12:46.839
If<00:12:36.584> you<00:12:36.665> were<00:12:36.810> going<00:12:37.148> to<00:12:37.998> create<00:12:38.018> detailed<00:12:38.437> criteria<00:12:39.565> to<00:12:39.727> pick<00:12:40.210> the<00:12:40.291> 5<00:12:40.758> best<00:12:40.936> surgeons<00:12:41.387> in<00:12:41.484> the<00:12:41.580> US,<00:12:42.386> what<00:12:42.435> would<00:12:42.628> the<00:12:42.773> criteria<00:12:44.079> be<00:12:44.304> and<00:12:44.401> explain<00:12:44.804> it<00:12:44.885> to<00:12:45.030> me?"<00:12:45.143> So<00:12:45.288> it<00:12:45.433> gives<00:12:45.610> you<00:12:45.884> like<00:12:45.997> 15<00:12:46.483> things.

00:12:46.903 --> 00:12:49.330
I'm<00:12:47.017> like,<00:12:47.227> "Wow,<00:12:47.470> I<00:12:47.567> never<00:12:47.858> thought<00:12:47.939> about<00:12:48.198> that."<00:12:48.990> All<00:12:49.023> right.

00:12:49.776 --> 00:12:53.260
Using<00:12:50.177> that<00:12:50.434> criteria,<00:12:52.120> who<00:12:52.265> are<00:12:52.345> the<00:12:52.425> 5<00:12:52.923> best?

00:12:53.967 --> 00:12:56.391
None<00:12:54.207> of<00:12:54.352> the<00:12:54.513> original<00:12:54.930> 5<00:12:55.267> are<00:12:55.476> on,<00:12:56.198> right?

00:12:57.098 --> 00:13:04.773
Then<00:12:57.884> I<00:12:57.981> say,<00:12:58.382> hey,<00:12:59.249> you<00:12:59.426> 5<00:12:59.892> best,<00:13:00.293> how<00:13:00.453> would<00:13:00.630> you<00:13:00.726> improve<00:13:01.353> that<00:13:01.658> criteria<00:13:02.958> not<00:13:03.183> only<00:13:03.360> for<00:13:03.681> the<00:13:03.825> US<00:13:04.243> but<00:13:04.403> globally?

00:13:05.351 --> 00:13:09.622
Now<00:13:05.431> it<00:13:05.527> does<00:13:05.768> it<00:13:05.832> again,<00:13:06.555> much<00:13:07.117> more<00:13:07.294> refined,<00:13:07.936> some<00:13:08.177> new<00:13:08.337> things<00:13:08.739> that<00:13:08.819> didn't<00:13:09.204> come<00:13:09.317> out.

00:13:10.264 --> 00:13:13.764
I<00:13:10.344> say,<00:13:10.489> okay,<00:13:11.051> using<00:13:11.308> that<00:13:11.533> criteria,<00:13:12.271> who<00:13:12.416> are<00:13:12.448> the<00:13:12.576> 5<00:13:12.994> best<00:13:13.251> in<00:13:13.395> the<00:13:13.556> world?

00:13:15.546 --> 00:13:17.488
Only<00:13:15.867> one<00:13:16.108> of<00:13:16.268> my<00:13:16.525> five<00:13:17.070> make<00:13:17.343> it.

00:13:17.552 --> 00:13:20.343
Now<00:13:17.712> there's<00:13:17.969> two<00:13:18.290> in<00:13:18.434> India,<00:13:18.915> one<00:13:19.012> in<00:13:19.156> France,<00:13:19.637> one<00:13:19.685> in<00:13:19.814> Japan.

00:13:21.562 --> 00:13:23.584
And<00:13:21.803> then<00:13:22.140> I<00:13:22.236> say,<00:13:22.525> okay,<00:13:22.942> you're<00:13:23.086> my<00:13:23.327> team.

00:13:24.225 --> 00:13:29.889
We<00:13:24.386> had<00:13:24.611> to<00:13:24.851> add<00:13:25.252> one<00:13:25.493> other<00:13:25.750> person<00:13:26.873> that<00:13:27.097> brings<00:13:27.338> something<00:13:27.755> totally<00:13:28.236> different<00:13:28.637> than<00:13:28.782> what<00:13:29.022> you<00:13:29.119> five<00:13:29.584> have.

00:13:31.044 --> 00:13:32.744
If<00:13:31.188> that<00:13:31.364> person<00:13:31.750> exists,<00:13:32.151> who<00:13:32.247> would<00:13:32.391> it<00:13:32.487> be?

00:13:33.049 --> 00:13:34.092
And<00:13:33.193> would<00:13:33.306> you<00:13:33.434> want<00:13:33.594> them<00:13:33.691> on<00:13:33.755> the<00:13:33.851> team?

00:13:34.316 --> 00:13:34.589
Oh,<00:13:34.397> yeah.

00:13:35.135 --> 00:13:44.039
There's<00:13:35.359> this<00:13:35.856> Japanese<00:13:37.445> doctor<00:13:37.926> who's<00:13:38.102> an<00:13:38.247> expert<00:13:38.664> in<00:13:38.808> robotics<00:13:39.931> and<00:13:40.172> AI<00:13:40.846> doing<00:13:41.520> heart<00:13:41.696> operations,<00:13:42.354> and<00:13:42.691> none<00:13:42.852> of<00:13:42.980> us<00:13:43.558> do<00:13:43.718> any<00:13:43.879> of<00:13:43.943> that.

00:13:44.135 --> 00:13:45.066
So<00:13:44.296> we<00:13:44.505> add<00:13:44.665> him<00:13:44.761> to<00:13:44.906> the<00:13:45.002> team.

00:13:46.430 --> 00:13:49.801
Then,<00:13:46.848> now<00:13:47.008> this<00:13:47.169> has<00:13:47.329> taken<00:13:48.356> 3<00:13:48.613> minutes,<00:13:49.560> maybe.

00:13:50.362 --> 00:13:51.004
Yeah.

00:13:51.341 --> 00:13:55.931
Then<00:13:51.566> I<00:13:51.598> say,<00:13:51.903> okay,<00:13:52.609> I<00:13:52.770> have<00:13:52.946> a<00:13:53.010> friend<00:13:53.652> who's<00:13:54.856> 69<00:13:55.338> years<00:13:55.658> old.

00:13:56.012 --> 00:13:58.371
These<00:13:56.236> are<00:13:57.119> what<00:13:57.215> he's<00:13:57.440> being<00:13:57.665> recommended.

00:13:59.045 --> 00:14:01.580
What<00:13:59.221> would<00:13:59.446> you<00:13:59.671> 5<00:14:00.890> think<00:14:01.067> about<00:14:01.372> that?

00:14:02.158 --> 00:14:10.921
And<00:14:02.255> they<00:14:02.415> came<00:14:02.720> up<00:14:02.896> with<00:14:03.057> 4<00:14:03.474> non-invasive<00:14:04.261> diagnostics<00:14:05.946> that<00:14:06.026> he<00:14:06.106> should<00:14:06.347> do<00:14:06.491> first,<00:14:07.149> because<00:14:07.791> if<00:14:07.952> this<00:14:08.193> one<00:14:08.353> shows<00:14:08.818> this<00:14:09.075> and<00:14:09.139> he<00:14:09.220> shouldn't<00:14:09.460> be<00:14:09.557> doing<00:14:09.781> the<00:14:09.862> operation,<00:14:10.343> should<00:14:10.423> be<00:14:10.520> doing<00:14:10.744> that.

00:14:11.244 --> 00:14:14.983
And<00:14:11.326> if<00:14:11.474> this<00:14:11.720> one<00:14:12.048> did<00:14:12.228> the,<00:14:12.392> the,<00:14:12.540> the,<00:14:12.638> the,<00:14:13.622> so<00:14:13.770> I<00:14:13.803> sent<00:14:14.131> it<00:14:14.262> back<00:14:14.590> to<00:14:14.754> him.

00:14:16.410 --> 00:14:20.614
He<00:14:16.442> showed<00:14:16.684> it<00:14:16.846> to<00:14:16.943> his<00:14:17.153> doctor<00:14:17.558> and<00:14:17.655> he<00:14:17.736> was<00:14:17.897> like,<00:14:18.382> okay,<00:14:19.579> who<00:14:19.757> are<00:14:19.822> you<00:14:19.919> talking<00:14:20.307> to?

00:14:20.873 --> 00:14:22.393
I<00:14:20.889> gotta<00:14:21.115> know<00:14:21.293> who<00:14:21.455> told<00:14:21.859> you<00:14:22.183> all<00:14:22.247> this.

00:14:23.460 --> 00:14:32.465
And<00:14:24.269> I,<00:14:24.511> you<00:14:24.543> know,<00:14:24.673> I<00:14:24.770> can't<00:14:25.093> tell<00:14:25.320> you<00:14:25.498> how<00:14:25.740> it<00:14:25.870> does<00:14:26.227> it,<00:14:27.202> but<00:14:28.680> you<00:14:28.761> know,<00:14:28.826> I<00:14:28.891> always<00:14:29.216> say<00:14:29.459> if<00:14:29.557> I<00:14:29.638> could<00:14:29.784> go<00:14:29.963> back<00:14:30.272> 30<00:14:30.596> years,<00:14:31.165> I'd<00:14:31.262> be<00:14:31.360> a<00:14:31.425> software<00:14:31.912> engineer.

00:14:32.990 --> 00:14:49.846
But<00:14:33.168> now<00:14:33.509> with<00:14:33.736> AI,<00:14:34.482> as<00:14:34.628> long<00:14:34.806> as<00:14:34.888> you<00:14:34.969> know<00:14:35.115> how<00:14:35.212> to<00:14:35.439> ask<00:14:35.682> questions,<00:14:37.158> and<00:14:37.318> you<00:14:37.431> know<00:14:39.005> how<00:14:39.118> to<00:14:39.262> prompt<00:14:39.664> engineer,<00:14:41.174> you<00:14:41.351> can<00:14:41.576> create<00:14:42.154> teams<00:14:42.780> of<00:14:44.082> whatever<00:14:45.608> and<00:14:45.769> be<00:14:45.929> talking<00:14:46.331> to<00:14:46.460> a<00:14:46.492> heart<00:14:46.800> surgeon<00:14:47.221> that<00:14:47.367> does<00:14:47.691> like<00:14:47.869> 10,000<00:14:48.923> surgeries<00:14:49.554> a<00:14:49.635> year.

00:14:50.786 --> 00:14:57.435
And<00:14:50.867> then<00:14:51.029> you<00:14:51.175> could<00:14:51.353> go<00:14:51.580> really<00:14:51.839> granular<00:14:53.119> in<00:14:53.281> picking<00:14:53.784> heart<00:14:54.027> surgeons<00:14:54.400> of<00:14:54.514> a<00:14:54.777> specific<00:14:55.581> type<00:14:56.730> of<00:14:56.877> operation.

00:15:00.008 --> 00:15:05.413
So,<00:15:00.656> you<00:15:00.689> know,<00:15:00.855> it's<00:15:00.954> going<00:15:01.087> to<00:15:01.170> change<00:15:01.668> the<00:15:01.901> world<00:15:03.587> I<00:15:03.603> mean,<00:15:04.180> my<00:15:04.340> mom<00:15:04.644> is<00:15:04.805> in<00:15:04.869> hospice.

00:15:05.526 --> 00:15:12.784
She's<00:15:05.750> very<00:15:05.990> religious,<00:15:07.512> and<00:15:08.233> I<00:15:08.394> was<00:15:08.634> able—<00:15:09.675> she's<00:15:10.797> Catholic,<00:15:11.454> follows<00:15:11.934> the<00:15:12.095> Virgin<00:15:12.495> Mary.

00:15:12.896 --> 00:15:17.831
And<00:15:13.040> I<00:15:13.216> had<00:15:13.521> her<00:15:14.322> having<00:15:14.514> a<00:15:14.642> conversation<00:15:15.523> that<00:15:15.619> just<00:15:15.940> blew<00:15:16.180> her<00:15:16.324> mind<00:15:17.142> with<00:15:17.206> the<00:15:17.366> Virgin<00:15:17.622> Mary.

00:15:19.208 --> 00:15:26.979
And<00:15:19.289> my<00:15:19.401> mom<00:15:19.689> would<00:15:19.849> ask<00:15:20.090> questions,<00:15:20.731> like<00:15:21.532> very<00:15:22.028> deep<00:15:22.669> questions<00:15:23.214> from<00:15:23.390> scripture,<00:15:24.496> and<00:15:25.858> it<00:15:25.938> would<00:15:26.178> answer<00:15:26.579> back.

00:15:28.117 --> 00:15:35.311
Because<00:15:28.501> with<00:15:28.597> Gemini,<00:15:29.463> you<00:15:29.623> can<00:15:30.023> tie<00:15:30.360> it<00:15:30.584> to<00:15:30.905> your<00:15:31.946> your<00:15:32.106> phone,<00:15:33.068> you<00:15:33.148> could<00:15:33.565> give<00:15:33.725> it<00:15:34.029> a<00:15:34.125> woman's<00:15:34.927> voice.

00:15:36.433 --> 00:15:43.708
And<00:15:37.907> my<00:15:38.035> mother,<00:15:38.372> who's<00:15:38.756> 88,<00:15:39.397> was<00:15:39.814> just—<00:15:41.977> I<00:15:42.057> mean,<00:15:42.362> she's<00:15:42.939> talking<00:15:43.083> about<00:15:43.323> magic.

00:15:43.756 --> 00:15:46.849
She<00:15:44.044> thought<00:15:44.381> like<00:15:44.621> she<00:15:45.999> just<00:15:46.368> couldn't.

00:15:47.345 --> 00:15:55.694
But<00:15:47.666> it<00:15:48.643> was<00:15:48.788> about<00:15:49.012> an<00:15:49.172> hour,<00:15:49.813> and<00:15:49.909> she<00:15:50.454> was<00:15:50.775> like,<00:15:52.633> it<00:15:52.713> was<00:15:52.810> such<00:15:53.178> a<00:15:53.274> nice<00:15:53.739> thing<00:15:54.700> to<00:15:54.941> do<00:15:55.117> for<00:15:55.502> her.

00:15:56.543 --> 00:15:57.841
I<00:15:56.639> could<00:15:56.800> have<00:15:56.896> chosen<00:15:57.344> Jesus.

00:15:58.547 --> 00:16:00.794
And<00:15:58.643> she<00:15:58.804> could<00:15:58.964> have<00:15:59.012> had<00:15:59.125> a<00:15:59.189> conversation<00:16:00.007> with,<00:16:00.393> with<00:16:00.553> Jesus.

00:16:01.275 --> 00:16:13.488
And<00:16:03.041> anyway,<00:16:03.554> so<00:16:04.485> there's<00:16:04.645> just<00:16:04.822> some<00:16:04.983> really<00:16:05.287> cool<00:16:05.480> stuff<00:16:05.945> that<00:16:07.229> I<00:16:07.454> think<00:16:07.711> one<00:16:08.016> can<00:16:08.192> do,<00:16:08.593> but<00:16:08.754> it<00:16:08.898> is<00:16:09.075> an<00:16:09.155> investment<00:16:09.974> of<00:16:10.118> time<00:16:10.519> that<00:16:10.696> is<00:16:10.921> very<00:16:12.606> well<00:16:13.007> worth<00:16:13.392> it.

00:16:13.873 --> 00:16:32.792
And<00:16:15.639> it<00:16:15.719> has<00:16:15.960> come<00:16:16.281> so<00:16:16.842> far<00:16:18.528> in<00:16:19.426> 2<00:16:19.731> years<00:16:20.293> that<00:16:20.453> when<00:16:20.566> I<00:16:20.646> started,<00:16:21.272> it<00:16:21.352> was<00:16:23.021> very<00:16:23.198> frustrating,<00:16:24.000> but<00:16:24.482> The<00:16:24.950> quality<00:16:25.595> has<00:16:25.773> gotten<00:16:27.790> just,<00:16:28.612> it's<00:16:28.822> a<00:16:28.838> lot<00:16:29.000> easier<00:16:29.403> today<00:16:30.210> to<00:16:30.452> learn<00:16:31.420> than<00:16:31.646> what<00:16:31.743> I<00:16:31.823> was<00:16:31.985> doing<00:16:32.227> 2<00:16:32.372> years<00:16:32.566> ago.

00:16:32.872 --> 00:16:37.026
But,<00:16:33.744> you<00:16:33.824> know,<00:16:33.905> I<00:16:33.970> got<00:16:34.568> 2,000<00:16:35.198> hours<00:16:35.538> into<00:16:36.266> learning<00:16:36.735> AI.

00:16:38.028 --> 00:16:43.138
I<00:16:38.109> think<00:16:38.352> that<00:16:38.514> every<00:16:39.241> entrepreneur<00:16:39.840> should<00:16:40.228> be<00:16:40.454> the<00:16:40.551> chief<00:16:41.020> AI<00:16:41.360> officer<00:16:42.475> for<00:16:42.572> their<00:16:42.734> company.

00:16:43.219 --> 00:16:54.324
And<00:16:43.365> I<00:16:43.430> certainly<00:16:43.944> am<00:16:45.634> because<00:16:45.891> if<00:16:46.020> you're<00:16:46.132> not,<00:16:46.744> your<00:16:46.905> employees<00:16:47.725> who<00:16:47.806> are<00:16:47.950> used<00:16:48.127> to<00:16:48.288> doing<00:16:48.610> things<00:16:48.916> a<00:16:48.948> certain<00:16:49.334> way<00:16:49.801> will<00:16:49.881> not<00:16:50.219> integrate<00:16:52.006> the<00:16:52.318> AI<00:16:52.894> into<00:16:53.321> their<00:16:53.798> workflows.

00:16:56.350 --> 00:17:07.506
Having<00:16:56.526> dealt<00:16:56.703> with<00:16:56.864> so<00:16:57.041> many<00:16:57.732> interesting<00:16:58.295> leaders<00:16:58.696> and<00:16:58.793> being<00:16:59.098> a<00:16:59.982> remarkable<00:17:00.513> leader<00:17:00.722> yourself,<00:17:01.927> what<00:17:02.088> are<00:17:02.152> some<00:17:02.329> of<00:17:02.394> the<00:17:02.490> key<00:17:02.812> characteristics<00:17:03.615> and<00:17:03.696> traits<00:17:04.258> that<00:17:04.403> a<00:17:04.483> leader<00:17:04.724> should<00:17:04.950> have<00:17:06.357> that<00:17:06.584> you've<00:17:06.778> seen<00:17:07.069> that<00:17:07.231> works?

00:17:07.570 --> 00:17:11.356
Because<00:17:07.878> obviously<00:17:08.201> all<00:17:08.379> leaders<00:17:08.638> are<00:17:08.703> different,<00:17:09.156> have<00:17:09.269> different<00:17:09.447> styles,<00:17:09.997> different<00:17:10.240> personalities,<00:17:10.790> all<00:17:10.871> that<00:17:10.952> type<00:17:11.049> of<00:17:11.146> stuff.

00:17:11.922 --> 00:17:19.720
But<00:17:12.003> what<00:17:12.117> are<00:17:12.181> some<00:17:12.278> of<00:17:12.343> the<00:17:12.505> key<00:17:13.055> characteristics<00:17:13.945> and<00:17:14.124> traits<00:17:15.109> that<00:17:15.339> you've<00:17:15.585> seen<00:17:16.406> leaders<00:17:17.472> share<00:17:19.142> successfully?

00:17:20.362 --> 00:17:23.573
And<00:17:20.475> I<00:17:20.491> have<00:17:20.619> a<00:17:20.683> couple<00:17:20.940> of<00:17:21.069> books<00:17:21.406> that<00:17:21.952> go<00:17:22.128> into<00:17:22.369> this<00:17:23.011> in<00:17:23.043> depth.

00:17:23.975 --> 00:17:26.030
They're<00:17:24.216> in<00:17:24.777> 11<00:17:25.034> or<00:17:25.163> 12<00:17:25.484> languages.

00:17:26.142 --> 00:17:32.099
And<00:17:26.222> I<00:17:26.463> kind<00:17:26.704> of—<00:17:27.411> A<00:17:27.507> Message<00:17:27.989> from<00:17:28.229> Garcia<00:17:28.791> was<00:17:28.952> my<00:17:29.096> first<00:17:29.434> book,<00:17:29.755> and<00:17:29.835> then<00:17:30.156> Leadership<00:17:30.638> Lessons<00:17:31.103> of<00:17:31.135> the<00:17:31.200> White<00:17:31.424> House<00:17:31.665> Fellows.

00:17:32.741 --> 00:17:35.262
I've<00:17:32.805> had<00:17:33.110> tons<00:17:33.351> of<00:17:33.431> mentors,<00:17:34.009> and<00:17:34.090> I<00:17:34.234> go<00:17:34.411> into<00:17:34.716> all<00:17:34.796> these<00:17:35.037> qualities.

00:17:36.097 --> 00:17:46.020
But<00:17:36.321> I<00:17:36.418> think<00:17:36.803> that<00:17:37.140> for<00:17:37.526> me,<00:17:37.863> the<00:17:38.023> number<00:17:38.666> one<00:17:39.709> skill,<00:17:41.379> quality<00:17:42.182> of<00:17:42.374> a<00:17:42.599> leader<00:17:43.482> is<00:17:43.563> self-awareness,<00:17:45.474> number<00:17:45.795> one.

00:17:46.293 --> 00:17:51.720
And<00:17:46.373> I<00:17:46.517> used<00:17:46.630> to<00:17:46.774> teach<00:17:47.722> at<00:17:47.818> MIT<00:17:48.685> how<00:17:48.717> to<00:17:48.942> use<00:17:49.183> behavioral<00:17:49.825> analytics<00:17:50.388> to<00:17:50.484> lead<00:17:50.709> high-performing<00:17:51.431> teams.

00:17:51.833 --> 00:17:54.643
I<00:17:51.897> have<00:17:51.993> 4<00:17:52.299> children<00:17:53.664> and<00:17:53.760> they're<00:17:53.920> totally<00:17:54.322> different.

00:17:55.125 --> 00:18:05.563
Not<00:17:55.366> sure<00:17:55.526> how<00:17:55.607> that<00:17:55.831> happens,<00:17:56.329> but<00:17:57.196> if<00:17:57.598> I<00:17:57.710> am<00:17:57.919> trying<00:17:58.417> to<00:17:58.979> get<00:17:59.364> my<00:17:59.541> own<00:17:59.926> kids<00:18:01.532> to<00:18:01.934> maximize<00:18:02.833> their<00:18:03.138> full<00:18:03.459> potential,<00:18:04.038> I<00:18:04.198> can't<00:18:04.439> approach<00:18:04.857> them<00:18:05.065> the<00:18:05.097> same<00:18:05.467> way.

00:18:06.527 --> 00:18:12.097
So<00:18:06.767> you<00:18:06.848> have<00:18:07.089> to<00:18:07.233> have<00:18:08.470> self-awareness<00:18:09.273> of<00:18:09.401> who<00:18:09.594> you<00:18:09.803> are,<00:18:09.899> number<00:18:10.140> one,<00:18:10.786> And<00:18:10.852> number<00:18:11.114> 2<00:18:11.376> is<00:18:11.671> empathy.

00:18:14.445 --> 00:18:21.617
And<00:18:14.465> self-awareness<00:18:15.595> is<00:18:15.756> like,<00:18:16.079> look,<00:18:16.564> there<00:18:16.628> are<00:18:16.661> certain<00:18:17.129> traits<00:18:17.758> that<00:18:17.920> I<00:18:18.081> have<00:18:19.147> that<00:18:19.292> are<00:18:19.373> going<00:18:19.470> to<00:18:19.551> drive<00:18:19.874> other<00:18:20.116> people<00:18:20.665> absolutely<00:18:21.181> nuts.

00:18:23.069 --> 00:18:25.186
We<00:18:23.313> often<00:18:23.720> marry<00:18:24.290> our<00:18:24.535> opposites.

00:18:26.327 --> 00:18:32.638
And<00:18:27.385> if<00:18:27.548> you<00:18:27.711> think<00:18:27.972> you<00:18:28.118> have<00:18:28.232> a<00:18:28.298> spouse,<00:18:30.449> the<00:18:30.545> best<00:18:30.867> decisions<00:18:31.511> are<00:18:31.575> going<00:18:31.656> to<00:18:31.752> be<00:18:31.897> made<00:18:32.155> together.

00:18:32.799 --> 00:18:36.034
But<00:18:32.960> there<00:18:33.104> are<00:18:33.282> things<00:18:33.925> that<00:18:34.956> she<00:18:35.197> has<00:18:35.310> superpowers.

00:18:36.082 --> 00:18:37.354
My<00:18:36.243> wife<00:18:36.501> and<00:18:36.581> I<00:18:36.662> have<00:18:36.807> superpowers.

00:18:37.402 --> 00:18:43.711
So<00:18:37.612> I<00:18:37.869> delegate<00:18:38.352> those<00:18:38.674> things<00:18:39.060> that<00:18:39.173> I'm<00:18:39.318> not<00:18:39.543> good<00:18:39.720> at,<00:18:40.597> she<00:18:40.854> is,<00:18:41.897> but<00:18:42.298> we<00:18:42.443> think<00:18:42.876> totally<00:18:43.342> different.

00:18:43.840 --> 00:18:51.578
So<00:18:45.429> understanding<00:18:46.794> that<00:18:47.019> my<00:18:47.260> wife<00:18:48.062> has<00:18:48.303> her<00:18:48.464> own<00:18:48.560> behavioral<00:18:49.026> DNA,<00:18:50.406> she's<00:18:50.631> not<00:18:50.888> being<00:18:51.065> a<00:18:51.209> pain.

00:18:51.996 --> 00:18:53.393
That's<00:18:52.253> the<00:18:52.333> way<00:18:52.654> that<00:18:52.879> she<00:18:53.039> was<00:18:53.216> built.

00:18:53.457 --> 00:18:57.551
And<00:18:53.601> we're<00:18:53.762> all<00:18:53.858> perfect<00:18:54.420> just<00:18:54.741> the<00:18:54.886> way<00:18:55.865> that<00:18:56.411> we're<00:18:57.230> like.

00:18:57.856 --> 00:19:03.620
And<00:18:58.257> if<00:18:58.899> I<00:18:59.140> want<00:18:59.895> something,<00:19:00.505> I<00:19:00.537> need<00:19:01.179> to<00:19:01.260> know<00:19:02.592> what<00:19:02.753> are<00:19:02.913> her<00:19:03.090> triggers.

00:19:04.278 --> 00:19:06.188
And<00:19:04.695> she<00:19:05.016> has<00:19:05.241> great<00:19:05.434> self-awareness.

00:19:06.782 --> 00:19:07.215
So<00:19:06.942> do<00:19:07.167> I.

00:19:08.369 --> 00:19:22.939
And<00:19:08.545> now<00:19:09.026> I<00:19:09.186> help<00:19:09.651> a<00:19:09.667> lot<00:19:09.908> of<00:19:09.988> the<00:19:10.148> children<00:19:10.709> of<00:19:10.853> our<00:19:11.030> members<00:19:11.575> who<00:19:11.751> are<00:19:12.552> before<00:19:13.033> they<00:19:13.194> get<00:19:13.370> married<00:19:13.915> to<00:19:14.075> understand<00:19:14.797> what<00:19:15.021> their<00:19:15.117> behavioral<00:19:16.480> DNA<00:19:16.960> is,<00:19:18.243> where<00:19:18.644> they're<00:19:18.804> going<00:19:18.964> to<00:19:19.205> be<00:19:19.766> good<00:19:20.006> together<00:19:20.647> and<00:19:20.888> where<00:19:21.689> there's<00:19:21.929> going<00:19:22.010> to<00:19:22.090> be<00:19:22.635> friction.

00:19:23.677 --> 00:19:33.631
So<00:19:24.654> when<00:19:24.815> you're<00:19:25.119> running,<00:19:26.882> nobody<00:19:27.299> gets<00:19:27.540> a<00:19:27.620> job<00:19:29.287> in<00:19:30.489> our<00:19:30.585> firm<00:19:31.387> without<00:19:31.771> us<00:19:31.948> having<00:19:32.493> their<00:19:32.829> behavioral<00:19:33.390> DNA.

00:19:34.338 --> 00:19:41.536
In<00:19:34.499> fact,<00:19:36.129> we<00:19:36.371> will<00:19:37.178> put—<00:19:37.566> this<00:19:37.727> is<00:19:37.824> the<00:19:37.985> perfect<00:19:38.389> behavioral<00:19:38.954> pattern<00:19:40.487> for<00:19:40.649> this<00:19:40.955> job.

00:19:42.182 --> 00:19:48.250
And<00:19:42.343> if<00:19:42.440> 400<00:19:43.054> people<00:19:43.393> apply,<00:19:44.186> we<00:19:44.348> only<00:19:44.688> interview<00:19:45.093> the<00:19:45.239> ones<00:19:45.481> that<00:19:45.643> have<00:19:45.983> a<00:19:45.999> 9<00:19:46.388> or<00:19:46.469> a<00:19:46.631> 10<00:19:47.198> on<00:19:47.278> the<00:19:47.424> behavioral<00:19:47.861> fit.

00:19:48.880 --> 00:19:55.094
The<00:19:48.992> number<00:19:49.396> one<00:19:51.962> thing<00:19:52.140> that's<00:19:52.382> going<00:19:52.479> to<00:19:52.543> show<00:19:53.044> someone<00:19:53.415> being<00:19:53.592> successful<00:19:54.174> is<00:19:54.383> cognitive.

00:19:55.755 --> 00:19:59.838
It's<00:19:55.917> how<00:19:56.191> fast<00:19:56.821> your<00:19:57.789> brain<00:19:58.080> spins,<00:19:58.605> but<00:19:58.753> also<00:19:59.082> your<00:19:59.246> experience.

00:20:00.736 --> 00:20:04.886
But<00:20:02.114> the<00:20:02.194> behavioral<00:20:02.691> fit<00:20:02.979> has<00:20:03.220> to<00:20:03.316> be<00:20:03.476> there<00:20:03.716> because<00:20:03.941> you<00:20:04.021> can<00:20:04.181> have<00:20:04.421> those<00:20:04.678> things.

00:20:04.934 --> 00:20:14.628
But<00:20:05.062> if<00:20:05.158> I<00:20:05.319> put<00:20:05.543> you<00:20:06.665> in<00:20:07.402> a<00:20:07.482> position<00:20:08.908> that<00:20:09.260> it's<00:20:09.404> just<00:20:09.709> not<00:20:10.029> who<00:20:10.270> you<00:20:10.510> are,<00:20:11.888> I'm<00:20:12.513> going<00:20:12.689> to<00:20:13.009> not<00:20:13.250> keep<00:20:13.490> you<00:20:13.634> for<00:20:14.211> very<00:20:14.516> long.

00:20:14.692 --> 00:20:15.621
You're<00:20:14.852> going<00:20:14.948> to<00:20:14.980> get<00:20:15.092> frustrated.

00:20:16.070 --> 00:20:33.353
So<00:20:16.294> for<00:20:16.438> me,<00:20:17.800> the<00:20:17.960> two<00:20:18.201> big<00:20:18.441> ones<00:20:19.002> is<00:20:19.643> really<00:20:20.300> in-depth<00:20:20.780> self-awareness<00:20:22.687> of<00:20:23.664> who<00:20:23.825> you<00:20:24.049> are<00:20:25.331> and<00:20:25.571> understanding,<00:20:26.228> even<00:20:26.468> though<00:20:26.965> you're<00:20:27.109> perfect<00:20:27.590> the<00:20:27.654> way<00:20:27.814> you<00:20:28.055> are,<00:20:28.777> Many<00:20:29.116> of<00:20:29.197> your<00:20:29.359> behaviors<00:20:29.860> are<00:20:29.989> going<00:20:30.086> to<00:20:30.151> drive<00:20:30.507> other<00:20:30.814> people<00:20:31.121> nuts<00:20:32.350> and<00:20:32.431> you<00:20:32.512> got<00:20:32.706> to<00:20:32.755> be<00:20:32.835> aware<00:20:33.078> of<00:20:33.224> that.

00:20:33.482 --> 00:20:40.385
You<00:20:33.595> got<00:20:33.676> to<00:20:33.725> know<00:20:34.113> who<00:20:34.388> your<00:20:34.614> team<00:20:34.938> is<00:20:35.342> and<00:20:36.393> you<00:20:36.458> have<00:20:36.636> to<00:20:36.733> approach<00:20:37.185> them<00:20:37.347> the<00:20:37.444> way<00:20:37.606> they<00:20:37.703> need<00:20:38.042> to<00:20:38.091> be<00:20:38.156> approached<00:20:38.737> to<00:20:38.883> maximize<00:20:39.610> their<00:20:39.690> full<00:20:39.933> potential.

00:20:40.433 --> 00:20:43.955
And<00:20:40.579> the<00:20:40.660> same<00:20:42.760> result<00:20:43.196> for<00:20:43.503> families.

00:20:45.569 --> 00:20:53.018
Do<00:20:45.634> you<00:20:45.731> think<00:20:45.893> that's<00:20:46.135> unique<00:20:46.718> to<00:20:46.847> CEOs<00:20:47.835> or<00:20:47.980> could<00:20:48.142> that<00:20:48.320> be<00:20:48.466> applied<00:20:48.886> to<00:20:49.857> politicians,<00:20:50.666> global<00:20:51.071> leaders,<00:20:52.430> things<00:20:52.624> like<00:20:52.820> that?

00:20:53.641 --> 00:20:53.681
Any<00:20:53.661> leader.

00:20:53.681 --> 00:20:54.742
I<00:20:53.698> mean,<00:20:54.079> any<00:20:54.427> leader.

00:20:56.483 --> 00:21:00.364
And<00:20:56.970> obviously,<00:20:58.432> you<00:20:58.529> have<00:20:58.757> to<00:20:58.919> have<00:20:59.179> great<00:20:59.747> values.

00:21:00.868 --> 00:21:12.105
You<00:21:01.452> have<00:21:01.631> to<00:21:01.761> be<00:21:02.735> ethical<00:21:03.320> and<00:21:03.466> integrity,<00:21:04.876> all<00:21:04.958> of<00:21:05.040> those<00:21:05.385> things<00:21:05.862> and<00:21:06.519> hard<00:21:06.864> work<00:21:07.111> ethic<00:21:10.380> and<00:21:10.624> things<00:21:10.852> like<00:21:11.014> that<00:21:11.193> are<00:21:11.340> all<00:21:11.600> important.

00:21:12.154 --> 00:21:12.788
But<00:21:12.316> it<00:21:12.479> depends.

00:21:14.020 --> 00:21:15.904
Am<00:21:14.052> I<00:21:14.134> going<00:21:14.560> to<00:21:14.626> be<00:21:14.773> a<00:21:14.790> leader<00:21:15.101> in<00:21:15.134> the<00:21:15.216> military?

00:21:16.363 --> 00:21:17.248
I'm<00:21:16.544> going<00:21:16.626> to<00:21:16.675> be<00:21:16.839> an<00:21:17.068> entrepreneur.

00:21:18.685 --> 00:21:22.037
Qualities<00:21:19.384> will<00:21:19.547> change<00:21:20.849> by<00:21:21.158> industries<00:21:21.744> you're<00:21:21.972> in.

00:21:22.660 --> 00:21:30.550
And<00:21:23.210> politics<00:21:23.910> is<00:21:24.210> a<00:21:24.310> whole,<00:21:25.970> whole<00:21:26.370> different<00:21:26.750> ball<00:21:27.130> of<00:21:27.230> wax,<00:21:27.630> I<00:21:27.631> think,<00:21:27.930> particularly<00:21:28.350> today.

00:21:30.550 --> 00:21:31.130
Mm-hmm.

00:21:31.130 --> 00:21:37.630
How<00:21:31.230> are<00:21:31.450> we<00:21:31.510> like<00:21:31.830> 2014,<00:21:32.750> kind<00:21:32.870> of<00:21:32.910> a<00:21:33.070> crazy<00:21:33.310> year<00:21:33.630> because,<00:21:34.150> you<00:21:34.210> know,<00:21:34.530> it<00:21:34.750> felt<00:21:34.751> like<00:21:34.890> we<00:21:35.010> were<00:21:35.130> in<00:21:35.230> a<00:21:35.231> recession<00:21:35.530> in<00:21:35.730> some<00:21:35.990> industries,<00:21:36.450> doing<00:21:36.870> well<00:21:37.090> in<00:21:37.230> others.

00:21:37.630 --> 00:21:39.270
So<00:21:37.770> it's<00:21:37.790> kind<00:21:38.010> of<00:21:38.130> a<00:21:38.330> lot<00:21:38.649> of<00:21:38.770> uncertainty.

00:21:39.370 --> 00:21:42.150
There's<00:21:39.450> an<00:21:39.590> election<00:21:39.830> coming<00:21:40.070> up<00:21:40.630> in<00:21:40.850> the<00:21:41.010> United<00:21:41.110> States,<00:21:41.550> around<00:21:41.790> the<00:21:41.990> world.

00:21:42.150 --> 00:21:44.230
There's<00:21:42.250> about<00:21:42.430> 25<00:21:42.830> other<00:21:43.190> elections<00:21:43.750> happening.

00:21:44.230 --> 00:21:47.650
So<00:21:44.410> there's<00:21:44.550> a<00:21:44.710> lot<00:21:44.810> of<00:21:44.910> uncertainty<00:21:45.350> going<00:21:45.750> into<00:21:46.330> 2024.

00:21:47.650 --> 00:21:56.043
Now<00:21:47.910> we<00:21:47.930> have<00:21:48.050> a<00:21:48.150> little<00:21:48.290> bit<00:21:48.450> more<00:21:48.610> certainty<00:21:49.010> going<00:21:49.230> into<00:21:49.530> 2025<00:21:50.250> and<00:21:50.570> kind<00:21:50.770> of<00:21:50.830> like<00:21:51.070> what<00:21:51.370> to<00:21:51.670> expect<00:21:52.270> and<00:21:52.390> how<00:21:52.410> to<00:21:52.430> invest<00:21:52.450> and<00:21:53.536> you<00:21:53.600> know,<00:21:54.902> where<00:21:55.159> things<00:21:55.481> might<00:21:55.866> look.

00:21:56.124 --> 00:21:58.181
There's<00:21:56.300> no,<00:21:56.525> there's<00:21:56.702> never<00:21:57.072> 100%<00:21:57.393> certainty,<00:21:58.052> right?

00:21:58.519 --> 00:22:02.473
How<00:21:58.840> are<00:21:59.001> you<00:21:59.097> thinking<00:21:59.354> about<00:21:59.579> 2025<00:22:00.383> and<00:22:00.464> just<00:22:00.624> kind<00:22:00.801> of<00:22:00.849> the<00:22:01.010> way<00:22:01.187> 2024<00:22:01.910> shook<00:22:02.296> out?

00:22:04.728 --> 00:22:08.126
Well,<00:22:05.533> I<00:22:05.759> write<00:22:06.580> about<00:22:06.838> investment<00:22:07.369> opportunities.

00:22:08.190 --> 00:22:09.511
We<00:22:08.319> have<00:22:08.496> a<00:22:08.754> thing<00:22:08.915> called<00:22:09.076> the<00:22:09.157> Night<00:22:09.463> Owl.

00:22:09.640 --> 00:22:14.734
So<00:22:10.445> this<00:22:10.670> weekend<00:22:11.073> I<00:22:11.234> wrote<00:22:11.460> 3<00:22:11.718> or<00:22:11.798> 4<00:22:12.121> things<00:22:13.186> and<00:22:13.331> we<00:22:13.508> look<00:22:14.315> globally.

00:22:14.815 --> 00:22:21.107
So<00:22:15.589> what's<00:22:15.767> going<00:22:16.025> on<00:22:16.106> in<00:22:16.251> China,<00:22:17.929> the<00:22:18.025> largest<00:22:18.751> economy,<00:22:19.703> and<00:22:19.864> what<00:22:20.026> opportunities<00:22:21.010> there.

00:22:23.198 --> 00:22:27.308
Bitcoin,<00:22:23.743> I<00:22:23.840> think,<00:22:24.386> is<00:22:24.739> a<00:22:24.867> place<00:22:25.991> that<00:22:26.232> everybody<00:22:26.650> should<00:22:27.115> be.

00:22:28.255 --> 00:22:29.395
We're<00:22:28.368> still<00:22:28.737> very<00:22:29.058> early.

00:22:29.717 --> 00:22:36.123
I<00:22:29.861> tell<00:22:30.022> my<00:22:30.327> kids<00:22:30.744> that<00:22:31.226> I<00:22:31.467> do<00:22:31.627> believe<00:22:32.109> in<00:22:33.394> 20<00:22:33.779> years<00:22:34.277> Bitcoin<00:22:34.758> will<00:22:34.919> be<00:22:35.160> above<00:22:35.545> 10<00:22:35.786> million.

00:22:36.460 --> 00:22:45.388
So<00:22:36.653> 100,000,<00:22:38.516> 105,<00:22:39.415> 103,<00:22:40.282> wherever<00:22:40.619> it<00:22:40.763> is,<00:22:41.743> it's<00:22:42.048> still<00:22:42.305> very<00:22:42.867> early<00:22:43.188> in<00:22:43.333> the<00:22:43.429> game<00:22:43.814> and<00:22:43.927> it's<00:22:44.151> divisible<00:22:44.713> by<00:22:44.810> a<00:22:44.890> million.

00:22:45.741 --> 00:22:46.255
Just<00:22:46.062> mill<00:22:46.175> it.

00:22:46.319 --> 00:23:00.891
So<00:22:49.208> We<00:22:49.433> have<00:22:49.930> BitPay,<00:22:50.492> so<00:22:51.038> our<00:22:51.198> employees<00:22:52.578> can,<00:22:53.060> every<00:22:53.300> 2<00:22:53.541> weeks,<00:22:54.103> they<00:22:54.183> can<00:22:54.327> put<00:22:54.408> 100%<00:22:54.825> or<00:22:55.467> 1%<00:22:56.013> of<00:22:56.350> their<00:22:57.970> salary<00:22:58.757> into<00:22:59.158> Bitcoin.

00:23:01.710 --> 00:23:10.809
And<00:23:01.902> I<00:23:02.047> tell,<00:23:02.352> look,<00:23:02.544> if<00:23:02.753> you're<00:23:02.913> putting<00:23:03.154> in<00:23:03.298> $100<00:23:04.630> a<00:23:04.695> week<00:23:05.080> and<00:23:05.176> you've<00:23:05.256> been<00:23:05.417> doing<00:23:05.641> that<00:23:05.802> for<00:23:05.914> 4<00:23:06.155> years,<00:23:07.086> you'd<00:23:07.182> be<00:23:07.262> shocked<00:23:08.610> what<00:23:09.012> that<00:23:09.413> is<00:23:09.910> worth<00:23:10.632> today.

00:23:10.969 --> 00:23:23.782
So<00:23:12.398> with<00:23:12.542> the<00:23:12.719> US,<00:23:14.590> There's<00:23:15.010> 10<00:23:15.479> key<00:23:15.802> people<00:23:16.286> from<00:23:17.030> his<00:23:17.191> vice<00:23:17.514> president<00:23:18.063> to<00:23:18.160> his<00:23:18.322> cabinet<00:23:19.453> that<00:23:19.614> are<00:23:20.486> big<00:23:20.729> proponents<00:23:21.779> of<00:23:22.603> Bitcoin<00:23:23.023> in<00:23:23.152> particular.

00:23:24.606 --> 00:23:32.494
So<00:23:25.188> I<00:23:25.333> think<00:23:25.495> that's<00:23:26.238> a<00:23:26.254> no-brainer<00:23:29.388> in<00:23:29.469> terms<00:23:29.938> of<00:23:30.116> thinking<00:23:30.358> about<00:23:30.762> the<00:23:30.843> investment<00:23:31.895> landscape.

00:23:33.174 --> 00:23:39.084
And<00:23:33.271> I<00:23:33.433> like<00:23:33.676> companies<00:23:34.389> also<00:23:34.810> that<00:23:35.781> pay<00:23:36.024> dividends<00:23:36.736> and<00:23:36.833> the<00:23:36.979> dividends<00:23:37.335> are<00:23:37.465> growing<00:23:38.048> and<00:23:38.614> things<00:23:38.841> like<00:23:39.019> that.

00:23:39.958 --> 00:23:48.399
But<00:23:41.924> I<00:23:42.068> think<00:23:42.471> that,<00:23:46.563> you<00:23:46.595> know,<00:23:47.449> my<00:23:47.529> mother<00:23:47.771> was<00:23:47.932> a<00:23:47.948> schoolteacher.

00:23:49.030 --> 00:23:52.021
I<00:23:49.046> was<00:23:49.207> on<00:23:49.304> the<00:23:49.369> State<00:23:49.692> Board<00:23:49.854> of<00:23:49.935> Education<00:23:50.517> of<00:23:50.582> Florida<00:23:51.067> for<00:23:51.164> 6,<00:23:51.390> 7<00:23:51.649> years.

00:23:52.700 --> 00:24:02.583
I<00:23:52.765> was<00:23:52.943> brought<00:23:53.250> in<00:23:53.816> to<00:23:53.929> the<00:23:54.155> Air<00:23:54.301> Force<00:23:54.576> Academy<00:23:55.190> Board<00:23:55.352> of<00:23:55.433> Visitors<00:23:56.079> that<00:23:56.322> has<00:23:57.373> control<00:23:58.359> of<00:23:58.505> what<00:23:58.570> happens<00:23:58.989> at<00:23:59.166> that<00:23:59.504> military<00:23:59.988> institution<00:24:00.778> because<00:24:01.181> there<00:24:01.261> was<00:24:01.422> a<00:24:01.487> sexual<00:24:01.922> assault<00:24:02.244> scandal.

00:24:02.631 --> 00:24:03.969
So<00:24:02.776> I<00:24:02.873> think<00:24:03.050> a<00:24:03.099> lot<00:24:03.292> about<00:24:03.534> education.

00:24:05.480 --> 00:24:18.064
And<00:24:06.544> the<00:24:06.641> fact<00:24:07.044> that<00:24:07.270> we<00:24:07.382> don't—<00:24:07.834> we<00:24:08.011> can't<00:24:08.318> define<00:24:08.802> what<00:24:08.914> a<00:24:08.963> man<00:24:09.237> and<00:24:09.382> woman<00:24:09.688> is<00:24:10.414> and<00:24:10.656> that<00:24:11.059> our<00:24:11.237> kids<00:24:12.382> are<00:24:12.527> being<00:24:12.769> raised<00:24:13.172> as<00:24:13.204> socialist<00:24:14.770> and<00:24:16.143> capitalism<00:24:16.885> has<00:24:17.127> a<00:24:17.192> really<00:24:17.450> bad<00:24:17.693> name.

00:24:18.241 --> 00:24:23.565
I<00:24:18.274> saw<00:24:18.903> it<00:24:20.017> at<00:24:20.114> Harvard<00:24:20.744> for<00:24:20.857> a<00:24:21.228> year<00:24:21.793> and<00:24:21.874> I<00:24:22.020> was<00:24:22.937> shocked.

00:24:24.612 --> 00:24:32.678
And<00:24:25.127> if<00:24:25.256> you<00:24:25.417> think<00:24:25.611> of<00:24:25.675> Harvard's<00:24:27.285> a<00:24:27.301> nonprofit,<00:24:28.896> it's<00:24:29.041> really<00:24:29.314> a<00:24:29.379> $55<00:24:30.200> billion<00:24:30.828> hedge<00:24:31.134> fund<00:24:31.360> that's<00:24:31.539> growing<00:24:31.864> 10%<00:24:32.271> a<00:24:32.434> year.

00:24:32.759 --> 00:24:33.573
They<00:24:32.792> don't<00:24:33.020> need<00:24:33.264> tuition.

00:24:34.867 --> 00:24:46.665
And<00:24:35.604> they've<00:24:35.765> got—<00:24:36.230> and<00:24:36.502> so<00:24:37.672> a<00:24:37.688> virus<00:24:38.554> went<00:24:38.730> into<00:24:39.211> our<00:24:39.468> educational<00:24:40.109> system<00:24:41.439> about<00:24:41.680> 10<00:24:41.856> or<00:24:41.936> 15<00:24:42.401> years<00:24:42.722> ago<00:24:43.780> that<00:24:44.020> needs<00:24:44.261> to<00:24:44.405> get<00:24:44.726> out<00:24:44.902> of<00:24:44.982> our<00:24:45.142> school<00:24:46.120> system.

00:24:46.826 --> 00:24:53.606
It's<00:24:46.986> gone<00:24:47.210> into<00:24:47.531> the<00:24:47.611> US<00:24:48.012> military<00:24:49.871> where<00:24:50.096> we're<00:24:50.192> not<00:24:50.593> thinking<00:24:50.929> about<00:24:51.314> being<00:24:51.939> warfighters,<00:24:52.580> we're<00:24:52.677> thinking<00:24:52.933> about<00:24:53.157> other<00:24:53.382> things.

00:24:54.296 --> 00:25:13.677
So<00:24:55.658> it's<00:24:55.802> going<00:24:55.963> to<00:24:56.107> require<00:24:56.684> somebody<00:24:57.630> with<00:24:59.329> tough<00:24:59.714> skin<00:25:00.916> of<00:25:01.076> some<00:25:01.269> of<00:25:01.317> the<00:25:01.413> people<00:25:01.734> that<00:25:01.830> are<00:25:01.958> coming<00:25:02.295> into<00:25:02.679> this<00:25:03.112> administration<00:25:04.699> to<00:25:05.020> fix<00:25:05.645> those<00:25:06.447> things<00:25:07.890> and<00:25:08.611> get<00:25:08.851> back<00:25:09.268> to<00:25:09.845> a<00:25:09.990> country<00:25:10.487> that's<00:25:10.791> built<00:25:11.416> on<00:25:12.779> hard<00:25:13.020> work<00:25:13.276> ethic.

00:25:14.398 --> 00:25:18.021
Anybody<00:25:14.863> in<00:25:14.943> this<00:25:15.120> country<00:25:16.466> can<00:25:17.188> be<00:25:17.300> successful.

00:25:18.486 --> 00:25:23.552
I<00:25:18.566> have<00:25:18.727> the<00:25:18.807> good<00:25:18.967> fortune<00:25:19.464> of<00:25:19.673> living<00:25:20.634> outside<00:25:21.035> of<00:25:21.067> this<00:25:21.276> country<00:25:21.596> for<00:25:21.773> 20<00:25:22.093> years<00:25:22.494> in<00:25:22.558> the<00:25:22.590> Republic<00:25:23.039> of<00:25:23.135> Panama.

00:25:24.274 --> 00:25:26.037
I've<00:25:24.482> lived<00:25:24.979> in<00:25:25.316> Eastern<00:25:25.604> Europe.

00:25:26.920 --> 00:25:34.474
So<00:25:27.386> I,<00:25:28.013> I'm<00:25:28.592> very<00:25:28.897> grateful<00:25:29.958> in<00:25:30.038> being<00:25:30.296> a<00:25:30.360> veteran<00:25:31.083> for—<00:25:32.594> I<00:25:32.626> think<00:25:32.771> we're<00:25:32.931> in<00:25:33.012> the<00:25:33.398> greatest<00:25:33.719> country<00:25:34.024> in<00:25:34.057> the<00:25:34.201> world.

00:25:34.523 --> 00:25:39.739
We're<00:25:34.619> certainly<00:25:34.957> not<00:25:35.150> perfect<00:25:36.560> like<00:25:36.804> any,<00:25:37.128> anybody<00:25:37.598> else,<00:25:38.409> but<00:25:38.572> we're<00:25:38.734> always<00:25:38.977> working<00:25:39.253> to<00:25:39.318> be<00:25:39.480> better.

00:25:39.950 --> 00:26:26.291
So<00:25:40.372> I,<00:25:41.896> I<00:25:42.058> am<00:25:42.156> very<00:25:42.480> optimistic,<00:25:46.039> very<00:25:46.345> optimistic<00:25:47.006> that<00:25:47.490> we're<00:25:47.603> going<00:25:47.732> to<00:25:47.813> get<00:25:47.974> our<00:25:48.135> country<00:25:50.071> back<00:25:50.442> and<00:25:53.752> the<00:25:53.896> bad<00:25:54.137> behavior<00:25:55.003> of<00:25:55.179> the<00:25:55.260> federal<00:25:55.821> or<00:25:55.918> state<00:25:56.383> government<00:25:57.730> using<00:25:59.431> tech<00:25:59.752> platforms<00:26:00.795> to,<00:26:01.774> you<00:26:01.854> know,<00:26:02.143> one<00:26:02.303> of<00:26:02.335> the<00:26:02.479> things<00:26:03.586> that<00:26:03.683> I<00:26:03.843> taught<00:26:04.228> Latin<00:26:04.405> American<00:26:04.822> militaries<00:26:05.608> in<00:26:05.688> the<00:26:05.833> '80s<00:26:06.394> was<00:26:07.437> propaganda<00:26:08.400> and<00:26:08.496> how<00:26:08.881> to<00:26:10.485> ensure<00:26:11.207> that<00:26:11.368> they<00:26:11.528> didn't<00:26:11.849> have<00:26:12.186> guerrilla<00:26:12.427> insurgencies<00:26:13.534> was<00:26:13.871> to<00:26:14.753> have<00:26:15.074> counter-propaganda<00:26:16.614> stuff<00:26:17.224> to<00:26:18.403> what<00:26:19.939> people<00:26:20.262> are<00:26:20.343> being<00:26:20.586> taught<00:26:21.071> from<00:26:22.025> religious<00:26:22.461> organizations<00:26:23.561> to<00:26:24.952> many,<00:26:25.501> many<00:26:25.760> other<00:26:25.921> things.

00:26:26.467 --> 00:26:34.257
So<00:26:28.478> there<00:26:28.799> is<00:26:28.976> a<00:26:29.137> grip<00:26:30.408> on<00:26:30.488> our<00:26:30.826> federal<00:26:31.308> bureaucracies<00:26:32.354> on<00:26:32.515> what's<00:26:32.756> being<00:26:33.061> taught<00:26:33.383> in<00:26:33.463> our<00:26:33.690> schools.

00:26:35.913 --> 00:26:40.910
The<00:26:35.977> federal<00:26:36.318> government<00:26:36.870> controls<00:26:37.373> about<00:26:37.616> 10%<00:26:39.142> of<00:26:39.239> the<00:26:39.320> spending<00:26:39.953> for<00:26:40.131> public<00:26:40.472> schools.

00:26:41.056 --> 00:27:04.152
So<00:26:41.251> when<00:26:41.413> it<00:26:41.527> says<00:26:43.114> you're<00:26:43.243> going<00:26:43.356> to<00:26:43.453> teach<00:26:43.857> this<00:26:44.181> and<00:26:44.245> you're<00:26:44.326> going<00:26:44.407> to<00:26:44.569> teach<00:26:44.827> that,<00:26:45.086> or<00:26:45.150> you're<00:26:45.231> not<00:26:45.393> going<00:26:45.571> to<00:26:45.619> get<00:26:45.797> the<00:26:45.878> 10%,<00:26:50.805> And<00:26:50.950> what's<00:26:51.128> happening<00:26:51.531> in<00:26:51.596> the<00:26:51.677> state<00:26:51.935> of<00:26:52.015> California<00:26:52.887> just<00:26:53.613> blows<00:26:53.952> me<00:26:54.178> away<00:26:55.018> that<00:26:56.034> a<00:26:56.131> child<00:26:56.777> who's<00:26:57.019> not<00:26:57.245> an<00:26:57.310> adult<00:26:58.959> who's<00:26:59.121> confused,<00:26:59.914> he's<00:27:00.415> not<00:27:00.577> even<00:27:00.739> in<00:27:00.900> puberty,<00:27:01.547> can<00:27:02.761> make<00:27:03.019> some<00:27:03.230> sort<00:27:03.424> of<00:27:03.505> a<00:27:03.586> statement.

00:27:04.216 --> 00:27:11.088
And<00:27:04.378> the<00:27:04.411> next<00:27:04.686> thing<00:27:04.783> you<00:27:04.863> know,<00:27:05.996> they're<00:27:06.319> getting<00:27:06.644> physically<00:27:07.069> mutilated<00:27:07.788> and<00:27:07.853> their<00:27:08.016> parents<00:27:09.176> can't<00:27:09.405> find<00:27:09.650> out<00:27:09.765> about<00:27:10.059> it<00:27:10.157> or<00:27:10.238> somebody<00:27:10.549> goes<00:27:10.680> to<00:27:10.892> jail.

00:27:13.404 --> 00:27:16.495
I<00:27:13.420> mean,<00:27:13.598> it's<00:27:14.229> not<00:27:14.407> even<00:27:14.618> stuff<00:27:15.022> that<00:27:15.281> happens<00:27:15.686> in<00:27:16.155> China.

00:27:16.802 --> 00:27:17.029
Good.

00:27:17.288 --> 00:27:20.589
But<00:27:18.437> for<00:27:18.518> it<00:27:18.664> happening<00:27:18.906> in<00:27:19.068> our<00:27:19.165> own<00:27:19.392> country<00:27:19.894> is<00:27:20.136> really<00:27:20.314> sad.

00:27:20.703 --> 00:27:33.837
So<00:27:21.253> I<00:27:21.350> am<00:27:21.496> optimistic<00:27:22.384> that<00:27:25.952> the<00:27:26.113> pendulum<00:27:26.613> is<00:27:26.759> going<00:27:26.840> to<00:27:26.920> swing<00:27:27.727> the<00:27:27.873> other<00:27:28.293> way<00:27:32.092> in<00:27:32.172> a<00:27:32.188> lot<00:27:32.479> of<00:27:32.512> these,<00:27:33.061> these<00:27:33.449> areas.

00:27:34.840 --> 00:27:44.723
And<00:27:35.001> people<00:27:35.405> will<00:27:35.567> be<00:27:35.729> able<00:27:35.923> to<00:27:36.036> have<00:27:36.375> conversations<00:27:37.248> like<00:27:37.491> this<00:27:38.328> you<00:27:38.441> and<00:27:38.570> I<00:27:38.828> can<00:27:40.282> be<00:27:40.508> totally<00:27:42.543> on<00:27:42.688> opposite<00:27:43.108> spectrums<00:27:43.834> and<00:27:43.915> let's<00:27:44.077> talk<00:27:44.383> about<00:27:44.577> it.

00:27:45.191 --> 00:27:48.449
Hey,<00:27:45.368> I<00:27:45.514> want<00:27:45.659> to<00:27:46.402> understand<00:27:47.144> your<00:27:47.950> point<00:27:48.191> of<00:27:48.272> view.

00:27:48.658 --> 00:27:50.334
I<00:27:48.755> want<00:27:48.916> to<00:27:48.981> understand<00:27:49.625> what<00:27:49.786> am<00:27:49.867> I<00:27:49.899> missing.

00:27:51.075 --> 00:27:55.796
And<00:27:51.655> I<00:27:51.736> remember<00:27:53.266> when<00:27:53.411> I<00:27:53.572> worked,<00:27:53.830> the<00:27:53.894> first<00:27:54.152> president<00:27:54.458> I<00:27:54.620> worked<00:27:54.797> for<00:27:55.103> was<00:27:55.280> Ronald<00:27:55.490> Reagan.

00:27:56.150 --> 00:28:01.482
He<00:27:56.311> always<00:27:56.504> said,<00:27:58.889> you<00:27:58.969> know,<00:27:59.291> he<00:27:59.468> invited<00:27:59.871> Tip<00:28:00.113> O'Neill<00:28:00.580> to<00:28:00.677> play<00:28:01.160> poker.

00:28:02.755 --> 00:28:11.569
And<00:28:03.641> in<00:28:03.737> the<00:28:03.818> first<00:28:04.382> 4<00:28:04.777> months,<00:28:05.287> Tip<00:28:05.599> O'Neill<00:28:05.945> said,<00:28:06.520> I've<00:28:06.668> seen<00:28:07.162> you<00:28:07.408> more<00:28:07.688> in<00:28:07.819> 4<00:28:07.902> months<00:28:08.807> than<00:28:08.955> I<00:28:08.988> saw<00:28:09.218> the<00:28:09.366> president<00:28:10.056> of<00:28:10.122> my<00:28:10.286> own<00:28:10.451> party<00:28:10.944> in<00:28:11.092> 4<00:28:11.421> years.

00:28:13.090 --> 00:28:21.529
And<00:28:13.349> Reagan<00:28:13.672> always<00:28:13.948> said,<00:28:15.696> hey,<00:28:20.051> we<00:28:20.148> don't<00:28:20.278> have<00:28:20.522> to<00:28:20.619> agree<00:28:20.944> on<00:28:21.091> everything.

00:28:21.594 --> 00:28:29.342
We<00:28:21.741> can<00:28:21.838> still<00:28:22.082> be<00:28:22.228> friends<00:28:23.057> and<00:28:23.154> say,<00:28:23.869> and<00:28:23.934> he<00:28:24.178> told<00:28:24.438> Tip<00:28:24.617> O'Neill,<00:28:25.826> I<00:28:25.842> disagree<00:28:26.328> with<00:28:26.636> 80%<00:28:28.191> of<00:28:28.337> what<00:28:28.904> you<00:28:28.985> think.

00:28:29.569 --> 00:28:32.550
Let's<00:28:29.877> focus<00:28:30.282> on<00:28:30.363> the<00:28:30.460> 20%<00:28:31.756> that<00:28:31.918> we<00:28:32.064> agree<00:28:32.388> on.

00:28:32.631 --> 00:28:41.618
Let's<00:28:32.793> start<00:28:33.069> doing<00:28:33.295> some<00:28:33.457> amazing<00:28:34.008> things<00:28:34.268> there<00:28:34.511> and<00:28:34.592> let's<00:28:34.900> see<00:28:35.062> how<00:28:36.519> Maybe<00:28:36.795> I'll<00:28:36.940> do<00:28:37.102> more<00:28:37.426> of<00:28:37.572> what<00:28:37.814> you<00:28:37.911> think<00:28:38.219> because<00:28:38.478> you'll<00:28:38.640> convince<00:28:39.109> me<00:28:40.161> and<00:28:40.258> you'll<00:28:40.501> do<00:28:40.663> a<00:28:40.679> little<00:28:40.906> bit<00:28:41.084> more<00:28:41.311> of<00:28:41.456> me.

00:28:41.715 --> 00:28:43.577
But<00:28:41.812> it<00:28:41.893> starts<00:28:42.444> with<00:28:42.670> the<00:28:42.767> conversation.

00:28:44.127 --> 00:28:57.232
When<00:28:44.224> you<00:28:44.532> can't<00:28:44.791> have<00:28:45.033> conversations<00:28:45.762> at<00:28:45.924> Thanksgiving<00:28:46.490> table<00:28:46.959> with<00:28:47.121> your<00:28:47.283> own<00:28:47.445> family<00:28:48.756> because<00:28:49.306> they<00:28:49.484> have<00:28:50.860> Trump<00:28:51.264> Derangement<00:28:51.831> Syndrome<00:28:52.397> or<00:28:52.462> something<00:28:52.867> else,<00:28:55.534> it's<00:28:56.682> scary.

00:28:58.121 --> 00:29:06.259
And<00:28:58.283> it's<00:28:58.525> scary<00:28:58.946> because<00:29:00.950> the<00:29:01.112> platforms<00:29:01.921> that<00:29:02.082> we<00:29:02.244> have<00:29:02.423> on<00:29:02.575> social<00:29:02.878> media<00:29:03.265> or<00:29:03.434> television<00:29:04.832> are<00:29:04.977> not<00:29:05.634> journalists.

00:29:06.355 --> 00:29:21.358
I<00:29:06.756> was<00:29:07.557> just<00:29:07.798> kidding<00:29:08.182> with<00:29:08.375> a<00:29:08.519> new<00:29:09.160> person<00:29:10.667> that<00:29:10.827> I<00:29:10.859> met<00:29:11.805> over<00:29:11.949> the<00:29:11.981> last<00:29:12.430> week,<00:29:13.312> and<00:29:13.953> I<00:29:14.193> looked<00:29:14.385> at<00:29:14.434> his<00:29:14.626> last<00:29:14.995> name<00:29:15.267> and<00:29:15.331> said,<00:29:15.556> you<00:29:15.652> wouldn't<00:29:15.972> know,<00:29:16.918> you<00:29:16.950> know,<00:29:17.110> my<00:29:17.800> editor<00:29:18.280> who<00:29:18.377> ran<00:29:18.617> the<00:29:18.841> op-ed<00:29:19.178> pages<00:29:19.643> for<00:29:19.739> CNN<00:29:20.284> has<00:29:20.524> your<00:29:20.621> same<00:29:20.925> last<00:29:21.278> name.

00:29:21.518 --> 00:29:22.768
Oh,<00:29:21.582> that<00:29:22.047> was<00:29:22.143> my<00:29:22.304> father.

00:29:23.906 --> 00:29:31.119
When<00:29:24.051> I<00:29:24.227> wrote<00:29:24.467> for<00:29:24.628> CNN<00:29:25.269> back<00:29:25.525> in<00:29:25.654> 2012,<00:29:27.577> any<00:29:27.898> line,<00:29:28.779> which<00:29:28.891> was<00:29:29.116> most<00:29:29.500> lines,<00:29:30.142> I<00:29:30.174> had<00:29:30.254> to<00:29:30.302> have<00:29:30.462> a<00:29:30.542> footnote.

00:29:31.199 --> 00:29:34.473
If<00:29:31.360> there<00:29:31.440> was<00:29:31.600> a<00:29:31.664> fact<00:29:32.964> there<00:29:33.124> needed<00:29:33.381> to<00:29:33.526> be<00:29:33.670> where<00:29:33.847> it<00:29:33.991> came<00:29:34.232> from.

00:29:35.051 --> 00:29:40.334
Every<00:29:35.372> single<00:29:35.934> thing<00:29:37.299> was<00:29:37.845> checked<00:29:38.262> before<00:29:38.840> it<00:29:39.049> was<00:29:39.948> published.

00:29:40.430 --> 00:29:42.244
That<00:29:40.590> doesn't<00:29:40.831> happen<00:29:41.939> today.

00:29:42.357 --> 00:29:45.536
I<00:29:42.373> mean,<00:29:42.662> people<00:29:42.999> just<00:29:43.304> report<00:29:43.722> stories<00:29:44.267> with<00:29:44.380> anonymous<00:29:44.862> sources.

00:29:46.114 --> 00:29:57.370
There<00:29:46.275> is<00:29:46.676> like—<00:29:47.398> you<00:29:47.559> cannot<00:29:47.896> have<00:29:48.137> a<00:29:48.217> democracy<00:29:50.000> if<00:29:50.144> people<00:29:50.530> aren't<00:29:50.770> well<00:29:50.931> informed<00:29:51.814> and<00:29:51.926> if<00:29:52.071> the<00:29:52.232> press<00:29:53.275> is<00:29:53.420> not<00:29:53.596> getting<00:29:53.901> two<00:29:54.062> sides<00:29:54.479> to<00:29:54.560> every<00:29:54.736> story<00:29:55.282> and<00:29:55.443> presenting<00:29:56.005> things<00:29:56.262> in<00:29:56.310> an<00:29:56.551> unbiased<00:29:57.129> way.

00:29:58.349 --> 00:30:00.902
My<00:29:58.574> favorite<00:29:58.975> show<00:29:59.280> on<00:29:59.377> CNN<00:29:59.858> used<00:30:00.003> to<00:30:00.099> be<00:30:00.260> Crossfire.

00:30:01.745 --> 00:30:10.873
I<00:30:01.765> don't<00:30:01.785> know<00:30:01.849> if<00:30:02.010> you<00:30:02.090> remember<00:30:02.508> that,<00:30:02.829> but<00:30:03.134> you<00:30:03.295> had<00:30:03.728> someone<00:30:04.097> from<00:30:04.194> the<00:30:04.274> left,<00:30:04.515> someone<00:30:04.756> from<00:30:04.916> the<00:30:05.061> right,<00:30:05.462> two<00:30:05.703> guests,<00:30:07.068> and<00:30:07.309> you<00:30:07.405> would<00:30:07.566> listen<00:30:08.513> to<00:30:08.609> someone<00:30:08.995> and<00:30:09.075> say,<00:30:09.316> wow,<00:30:10.038> that<00:30:10.279> makes<00:30:10.536> sense.

00:30:11.002 --> 00:30:12.061
I<00:30:11.323> agree<00:30:11.660> with<00:30:11.821> that.

00:30:12.222 --> 00:30:15.369
And<00:30:12.286> the<00:30:12.383> next<00:30:12.623> person<00:30:12.961> goes<00:30:13.330> like,<00:30:13.651> oh,<00:30:13.988> okay,<00:30:14.406> it's<00:30:14.630> more<00:30:14.855> complicated.

00:30:16.140 --> 00:30:22.868
And<00:30:16.300> after<00:30:16.622> the<00:30:16.702> show,<00:30:17.264> you<00:30:17.521> left<00:30:18.966> well<00:30:19.207> informed<00:30:20.154> and<00:30:20.475> they<00:30:20.716> weren't<00:30:20.973> trying<00:30:21.455> to<00:30:21.936> convince<00:30:22.402> you<00:30:22.498> of<00:30:22.579> anything.

00:30:23.430 --> 00:30:29.437
They<00:30:23.527> were<00:30:23.624> trying<00:30:23.948> to<00:30:24.272> educate<00:30:24.741> you<00:30:25.162> and<00:30:25.243> they<00:30:25.405> gave<00:30:25.632> you<00:30:25.810> both<00:30:25.907> sides,<00:30:26.943> which<00:30:27.105> was<00:30:27.899> what<00:30:28.061> journalism's<00:30:28.579> supposed<00:30:28.967> to<00:30:29.048> be<00:30:29.146> about.

00:30:30.590 --> 00:30:40.638
What<00:30:30.655> do<00:30:30.688> you<00:30:30.721> make<00:30:31.098> of<00:30:31.262> having<00:30:31.999> like<00:30:32.245> the<00:30:32.343> greatest<00:30:32.901> entrepreneur<00:30:33.392> currently<00:30:36.072> living<00:30:37.307> being<00:30:37.551> part<00:30:38.185> of<00:30:38.753> this<00:30:39.013> new<00:30:39.111> administration<00:30:39.744> in<00:30:39.842> such<00:30:40.070> a<00:30:40.151> big<00:30:40.378> way?

00:30:41.353 --> 00:30:51.465
Him<00:30:41.532> and<00:30:41.678> Vivek,<00:30:42.470> uh,<00:30:42.567> obviously<00:30:42.793> I'm<00:30:42.906> talking<00:30:43.052> about<00:30:43.295> Elon<00:30:44.379> and<00:30:44.524> what<00:30:44.686> they're<00:30:44.832> trying<00:30:45.010> to<00:30:45.107> do<00:30:45.236> with<00:30:45.317> the<00:30:45.414> Department<00:30:46.045> of<00:30:46.126> Government<00:30:46.466> Efficiency<00:30:47.275> and<00:30:47.501> things<00:30:47.744> that<00:30:47.906> he's<00:30:48.164> done<00:30:48.472> already<00:30:48.892> inside<00:30:49.135> of<00:30:49.216> his<00:30:49.442> own<00:30:49.604> companies<00:30:50.106> and<00:30:50.251> taking<00:30:50.510> that<00:30:50.672> to<00:30:50.818> the<00:30:50.915> federal<00:30:51.157> government.

00:30:52.083 --> 00:30:53.307
How<00:30:52.103> do<00:30:52.183> you<00:30:52.327> think<00:30:52.504> that<00:30:52.664> shakes<00:30:53.050> out?

00:30:54.109 --> 00:30:57.175
I<00:30:54.350> can't<00:30:55.233> think<00:30:55.393> of<00:30:55.474> anything<00:30:55.714> that's<00:30:56.035> ever<00:30:56.196> been<00:30:56.421> like<00:30:56.597> this<00:30:56.758> in<00:30:56.902> history.

00:30:57.962 --> 00:31:08.347
No,<00:30:58.202> look,<00:30:58.443> there's<00:30:59.310> a<00:30:59.406> model<00:31:00.048> for<00:31:00.450> it<00:31:00.530> already<00:31:01.172> with<00:31:02.135> what<00:31:02.842> Milei,<00:31:03.339> the<00:31:03.500> president<00:31:04.286> of<00:31:05.811> Argentina,<00:31:06.373> has<00:31:06.550> done<00:31:06.726> in<00:31:06.855> just<00:31:07.176> one<00:31:08.219> year.

00:31:09.503 --> 00:31:19.118
And<00:31:10.322> now<00:31:11.831> he's<00:31:12.007> president,<00:31:12.489> he<00:31:12.569> has<00:31:12.794> the<00:31:12.890> power<00:31:13.211> to<00:31:13.372> do<00:31:13.452> it,<00:31:14.479> and<00:31:15.924> he's<00:31:16.181> turned<00:31:17.048> around<00:31:17.401> a<00:31:17.465> basket<00:31:18.011> case<00:31:18.525> of<00:31:18.605> a<00:31:18.669> company.

00:31:19.939 --> 00:31:22.696
Of<00:31:20.036> a<00:31:20.117> country<00:31:21.632> in<00:31:22.212> one<00:31:22.438> year.

00:31:22.857 --> 00:31:24.114
And<00:31:23.018> we<00:31:23.179> can<00:31:23.341> do<00:31:23.582> the<00:31:23.679> same.

00:31:24.211 --> 00:31:29.360
People<00:31:25.033> don't<00:31:25.259> realize<00:31:25.759> that<00:31:25.920> Elon,<00:31:27.129> he<00:31:27.274> runs<00:31:27.516> $6<00:31:28.098> billion<00:31:28.972> companies.

00:31:30.266 --> 00:31:38.709
He's<00:31:30.509> able<00:31:31.011> to<00:31:31.253> do<00:31:31.415> things<00:31:31.965> like<00:31:32.224> deploying<00:31:34.392> AI<00:31:35.881> equipment<00:31:36.821> that<00:31:37.147> would<00:31:37.326> take,<00:31:37.732> like<00:31:38.074> impossible.

00:31:38.953 --> 00:31:41.198
This<00:31:39.197> would<00:31:39.343> take<00:31:39.604> a<00:31:39.750> year<00:31:40.010> and<00:31:40.157> he<00:31:40.254> does<00:31:40.482> it<00:31:40.580> in<00:31:40.661> a<00:31:40.726> few<00:31:40.987> weeks.

00:31:43.075 --> 00:31:44.938
And<00:31:43.223> people<00:31:43.487> just<00:31:43.718> can't<00:31:44.394> believe<00:31:44.789> it.

00:31:45.284 --> 00:31:50.172
And<00:31:46.292> we<00:31:46.453> get<00:31:46.678> billions<00:31:47.081> and<00:31:47.274> billions,<00:31:47.725> the<00:31:47.805> federal<00:31:48.143> government,<00:31:48.626> to<00:31:48.787> build<00:31:49.029> charging<00:31:49.448> stations.

00:31:50.236 --> 00:31:53.940
And<00:31:50.703> 4<00:31:50.864> years<00:31:51.138> go<00:31:51.283> by<00:31:51.589> and<00:31:52.265> I<00:31:52.362> don't<00:31:52.507> know,<00:31:52.813> built<00:31:53.070> 2<00:31:53.280> of<00:31:53.360> them<00:31:53.441> or<00:31:53.618> 3<00:31:53.779> of<00:31:53.843> them.

00:31:56.742 --> 00:32:05.515
And<00:31:57.066> it's<00:31:57.310> a<00:31:57.537> bureaucracy<00:31:58.674> that<00:32:00.314> it's<00:32:00.461> all<00:32:00.639> about<00:32:01.776> taking<00:32:02.101> as<00:32:02.328> much<00:32:02.913> money<00:32:03.806> and<00:32:03.887> making<00:32:04.380> people<00:32:05.114> wealthy.

00:32:08.521 --> 00:32:17.111
And<00:32:10.680> somebody<00:32:11.138> had<00:32:11.318> the<00:32:11.482> joke,<00:32:11.874> the<00:32:11.973> comedian,<00:32:12.611> where<00:32:14.030> our<00:32:14.288> politicians<00:32:14.998> should<00:32:15.159> look<00:32:15.336> like<00:32:15.498> NASCAR<00:32:15.982> racers<00:32:16.450> when<00:32:16.611> you<00:32:16.643> see<00:32:16.869> them.

00:32:17.192 --> 00:32:17.886
They<00:32:17.289> got<00:32:17.434> patches.

00:32:17.998 --> 00:32:21.758
So,<00:32:18.144> you<00:32:18.257> know,<00:32:18.628> hey,<00:32:18.966> there's<00:32:19.434> all<00:32:19.531> these<00:32:19.773> patches<00:32:20.257> from<00:32:21.128> oil<00:32:21.290> companies.

00:32:21.854 --> 00:32:26.142
So,<00:32:22.016> you<00:32:22.129> know<00:32:22.435> where<00:32:22.758> their<00:32:22.984> money<00:32:23.242> is<00:32:23.403> coming<00:32:23.709> from<00:32:23.967> and<00:32:24.047> they're<00:32:25.240> being<00:32:25.659> upfront.

00:32:26.690 --> 00:32:30.010
But<00:32:26.851> we<00:32:27.013> have<00:32:27.351> a<00:32:27.432> system<00:32:27.979> that's<00:32:28.157> very<00:32:28.705> corrupt.

00:32:30.830 --> 00:32:40.290
But<00:32:30.992> you<00:32:31.090> have<00:32:31.611> not<00:32:31.903> only<00:32:32.473> Elon,<00:32:32.815> but<00:32:32.977> Vivek,<00:32:33.531> who's<00:32:33.726> a<00:32:33.856> genius,<00:32:36.925> and<00:32:37.171> the<00:32:37.269> people<00:32:37.581> that<00:32:37.679> they're<00:32:37.925> recruiting,<00:32:39.448> that<00:32:39.772> can<00:32:39.934> apply.

00:32:41.375 --> 00:33:04.129
And<00:32:41.796> I<00:32:41.957> do<00:32:42.184> think<00:32:42.589> that<00:32:43.026> if<00:32:43.236> I<00:32:43.479> was<00:32:43.819> a<00:32:43.965> corporate<00:32:44.402> CEO<00:32:45.842> and<00:32:45.988> I<00:32:46.150> had<00:32:46.328> a<00:32:46.490> genius<00:32:47.040> working<00:32:47.364> for<00:32:47.510> me<00:32:48.416> that<00:32:50.214> could<00:32:50.538> go<00:32:50.716> for<00:32:50.878> a<00:32:51.088> year<00:32:51.590> or<00:32:52.238> 18<00:32:52.708> months<00:32:53.210> to<00:32:53.356> work<00:32:53.615> on<00:32:53.696> this<00:32:53.939> initiative,<00:32:55.218> I'd<00:32:55.315> continue<00:32:55.720> paying<00:32:55.850> their<00:32:55.947> salary<00:32:57.822> and<00:32:57.968> I<00:32:58.065> would<00:32:58.307> gift<00:32:59.601> that<00:33:00.005> individual<00:33:01.768> to<00:33:01.946> work<00:33:02.496> on<00:33:02.593> this<00:33:03.563> initiative.

00:33:04.210 --> 00:33:05.229
What<00:33:04.355> a<00:33:04.436> great<00:33:04.857> project.

00:33:06.578 --> 00:33:06.980
To<00:33:06.739> do.

00:33:07.060 --> 00:33:19.946
But<00:33:08.265> I<00:33:08.281> was<00:33:08.426> a<00:33:08.506> White<00:33:08.747> House<00:33:08.988> fellow,<00:33:11.559> you<00:33:11.639> know,<00:33:11.800> back<00:33:11.993> in<00:33:12.201> '88,<00:33:12.523> '89,<00:33:13.262> when<00:33:15.094> Reagan's<00:33:15.576> last<00:33:15.752> 6<00:33:16.074> months<00:33:16.620> and<00:33:17.215> business,<00:33:17.825> you<00:33:17.857> know,<00:33:18.082> the<00:33:18.243> business<00:33:18.629> of<00:33:18.709> government<00:33:19.111> is<00:33:19.288> complicated.

00:33:20.573 --> 00:33:25.557
You<00:33:20.734> have<00:33:21.136> the<00:33:22.727> strongest<00:33:23.289> union<00:33:23.642> in<00:33:23.707> the<00:33:23.932> world<00:33:24.366> is<00:33:24.591> the<00:33:24.800> civil<00:33:25.009> service.

00:33:27.475 --> 00:33:33.067
And<00:33:27.555> I<00:33:27.636> remember,<00:33:27.990> it's<00:33:28.119> like,<00:33:28.361> hey,<00:33:29.344> don't<00:33:29.505> let<00:33:29.682> the<00:33:29.828> door<00:33:30.150> hit<00:33:30.456> you<00:33:30.794> in<00:33:30.875> the<00:33:31.020> butt<00:33:31.358> because<00:33:32.068> we're<00:33:32.325> still<00:33:32.470> going<00:33:32.664> to<00:33:32.728> be<00:33:32.970> here.

00:33:33.963 --> 00:33:35.021
When<00:33:34.508> you<00:33:34.684> leave.

00:33:35.870 --> 00:33:43.998
And<00:33:37.473> what<00:33:37.634> I<00:33:37.730> found,<00:33:38.772> I've<00:33:38.932> worked<00:33:39.253> now<00:33:39.413> in<00:33:39.509> 6<00:33:39.814> administrations,<00:33:41.177> a<00:33:41.241> lot<00:33:41.433> of<00:33:41.497> the<00:33:41.577> monkey<00:33:41.978> business<00:33:42.443> in<00:33:42.539> government<00:33:43.164> happens<00:33:43.645> right<00:33:43.902> now.

00:33:44.319 --> 00:33:45.713
It's<00:33:44.527> the<00:33:44.607> last<00:33:44.944> 6<00:33:45.345> months.

00:33:46.307 --> 00:33:53.697
And<00:33:46.403> especially<00:33:47.028> the<00:33:47.108> last<00:33:48.310> couple<00:33:48.631> of<00:33:48.775> months,<00:33:49.593> everybody<00:33:50.779> that's<00:33:50.940> a<00:33:51.020> political<00:33:51.501> appointee<00:33:52.719> isn't<00:33:52.879> going<00:33:52.992> to<00:33:53.040> be<00:33:53.200> there<00:33:53.440> long.

00:33:53.761 --> 00:33:55.460
So<00:33:53.986> they're<00:33:54.146> focused<00:33:54.627> on<00:33:54.707> their<00:33:54.803> next<00:33:55.124> gig.

00:33:55.765 --> 00:34:04.635
And<00:33:56.005> the<00:33:56.102> civil<00:33:56.518> service,<00:33:59.116> that<00:33:59.276> know<00:33:59.452> everybody,<00:34:00.014> particularly<00:34:00.543> at<00:34:00.576> a<00:34:00.592> senior<00:34:00.977> level,<00:34:01.458> are<00:34:01.602> doing<00:34:01.923> all<00:34:02.019> kinds<00:34:02.485> of<00:34:03.463> crazy<00:34:04.266> things.

00:34:05.148 --> 00:34:09.319
And<00:34:05.373> you<00:34:05.469> read<00:34:05.645> about<00:34:05.950> some<00:34:06.191> of<00:34:06.287> it,<00:34:06.496> but<00:34:06.592> most<00:34:06.913> of<00:34:06.993> it<00:34:07.153> you'll<00:34:08.597> never<00:34:08.774> know<00:34:08.998> about.

00:34:09.399 --> 00:34:16.186
So<00:34:09.784> I<00:34:09.881> am<00:34:10.025> optimistic<00:34:11.726> that<00:34:11.950> they<00:34:12.191> will<00:34:13.571> be<00:34:13.795> able<00:34:14.212> to<00:34:15.721> do<00:34:15.817> things.

00:34:16.443 --> 00:34:25.767
And<00:34:17.004> then<00:34:17.566> the<00:34:17.726> president's<00:34:18.304> gonna<00:34:18.448> have<00:34:18.640> to<00:34:18.705> make<00:34:18.945> the<00:34:19.090> tough<00:34:19.411> calls<00:34:20.614> because<00:34:20.951> the<00:34:21.031> most<00:34:21.368> important<00:34:21.833> thing<00:34:22.314> that<00:34:22.475> needs<00:34:22.635> to<00:34:22.860> happen<00:34:24.143> is<00:34:24.961> is<00:34:25.122> personnel.

00:34:25.992 --> 00:34:38.280
I<00:34:26.025> mean,<00:34:26.250> you<00:34:26.411> have<00:34:28.007> about<00:34:28.668> 5<00:34:29.313> million<00:34:31.392> members<00:34:32.456> nationally<00:34:33.327> of<00:34:33.440> state,<00:34:34.795> federal,<00:34:36.715> local<00:34:37.054> government,<00:34:38.087> right?

00:34:38.329 --> 00:34:39.297
About<00:34:38.522> 5<00:34:38.990> million.

00:34:40.039 --> 00:34:44.244
Probably,<00:34:40.765> you<00:34:40.846> know,<00:34:41.314> 3<00:34:41.491> million<00:34:41.895> of<00:34:41.975> that<00:34:42.298> is<00:34:42.686> the<00:34:42.751> military<00:34:43.270> and<00:34:43.335> the<00:34:43.416> federal<00:34:43.757> government.

00:34:45.055 --> 00:35:01.183
But,<00:34:46.207> you<00:34:46.289> know,<00:34:46.516> the<00:34:46.597> fact<00:34:46.905> that<00:34:47.003> they<00:34:47.084> don't<00:34:47.246> even<00:34:47.408> come<00:34:47.587> into<00:34:47.879> work,<00:34:50.092> you<00:34:50.127> know,<00:34:50.269> and<00:34:50.375> there's<00:34:50.552> no<00:34:50.712> pandemic,<00:34:51.884> and<00:34:51.965> they<00:34:52.110> want<00:34:52.256> to<00:34:52.353> keep<00:34:53.098> working<00:34:53.486> from<00:34:53.729> home<00:34:53.988> and<00:34:54.133> who<00:34:54.214> knows<00:34:54.554> what<00:34:54.716> the<00:34:54.797> heck<00:34:55.024> they're<00:34:55.185> actually<00:34:55.606> doing<00:34:56.496> is<00:34:56.658> a<00:34:56.950> massive,<00:34:59.228> massive<00:35:00.698> problem.

00:35:01.894 --> 00:35:16.297
So,<00:35:03.122> but<00:35:03.284> you<00:35:03.381> know,<00:35:03.461> if<00:35:03.591> you<00:35:03.688> look<00:35:03.930> at<00:35:04.318> the<00:35:04.415> whole<00:35:04.738> workforce,<00:35:05.490> there's<00:35:05.586> about<00:35:05.844> 23<00:35:06.584> million<00:35:09.708> members<00:35:11.221> in<00:35:11.398> the<00:35:12.042> government,<00:35:12.686> 23<00:35:13.250> million,<00:35:14.457> but<00:35:14.779> a<00:35:14.844> lot<00:35:15.037> of<00:35:15.150> those<00:35:15.366> are<00:35:15.449> state<00:35:15.781> and<00:35:15.997> local.

00:35:16.347 --> 00:35:24.725
But<00:35:16.513> if<00:35:16.662> you<00:35:16.829> just<00:35:17.078> look<00:35:17.194> at<00:35:17.327> the<00:35:17.411> feds,<00:35:18.808> I<00:35:18.888> think<00:35:19.034> it's<00:35:19.115> about<00:35:19.535> 2<00:35:19.697> million,<00:35:20.441> a<00:35:20.570> little<00:35:20.732> over<00:35:20.909> 2<00:35:21.071> million<00:35:21.394> military<00:35:21.863> and<00:35:21.960> about<00:35:22.203> 3<00:35:22.381> million<00:35:23.658> in<00:35:23.803> the<00:35:23.900> federal<00:35:24.288> workforce.

00:35:24.789 --> 00:35:27.505
So,<00:35:24.870> that's<00:35:25.194> a<00:35:25.436> lot<00:35:25.759> of<00:35:27.134> workers.

00:35:27.683 --> 00:35:31.416
A<00:35:27.699> lot<00:35:27.861> of<00:35:27.910> these<00:35:28.088> agencies<00:35:28.737> were<00:35:28.900> created<00:35:30.685> years<00:35:30.945> and<00:35:31.091> years<00:35:31.286> ago.

00:35:31.513 --> 00:35:49.240
They<00:35:31.757> lost<00:35:32.081> their<00:35:32.406> authorization,<00:35:33.136> but<00:35:33.283> they<00:35:33.380> just<00:35:33.607> keep<00:35:33.867> going<00:35:34.987> because<00:35:35.490> they<00:35:35.653> have<00:35:36.350> congressmen<00:35:37.899> and<00:35:38.222> other<00:35:38.464> people<00:35:38.884> that<00:35:39.110> they've,<00:35:40.014> you<00:35:40.159> know,<00:35:40.337> so<00:35:43.226> there's<00:35:43.404> going<00:35:43.517> to<00:35:43.565> be<00:35:43.711> a<00:35:43.727> lot<00:35:44.034> of<00:35:44.066> screaming<00:35:44.776> if<00:35:44.938> they<00:35:45.180> do<00:35:45.406> what's<00:35:46.001> actually<00:35:46.613> they<00:35:46.783> need<00:35:47.191> to<00:35:48.935> to<00:35:49.096> do.

00:35:49.497 --> 00:35:59.420
But,<00:35:49.963> you<00:35:50.043> know,<00:35:50.926> Elon<00:35:52.066> let<00:35:52.307> go<00:35:52.548> 75<00:35:53.254> or<00:35:53.351> 80%<00:35:53.977> of<00:35:54.009> the<00:35:54.137> employees<00:35:54.860> at<00:35:55.358> Twitter,<00:35:55.775> now<00:35:56.144> X,<00:35:57.124> and<00:35:57.204> now<00:35:57.445> they're<00:35:57.606> the<00:35:57.686> number<00:35:57.991> one<00:35:58.248> news<00:35:58.553> platform<00:35:59.131> globally.

00:35:59.629 --> 00:36:06.886
So,<00:36:00.480> you<00:36:01.941> know,<00:36:02.728> and,<00:36:02.968> you<00:36:03.049> know,<00:36:03.161> those<00:36:03.386> people<00:36:03.707> will<00:36:03.852> find<00:36:04.173> different<00:36:04.494> jobs<00:36:04.911> and<00:36:05.072> different,<00:36:05.554> they'll<00:36:06.116> do<00:36:06.260> different<00:36:06.581> things.

00:36:07.705 --> 00:36:12.859
But<00:36:09.166> the<00:36:09.311> payroll<00:36:09.809> is<00:36:09.953> the<00:36:10.049> biggest<00:36:10.355> problem<00:36:10.676> that<00:36:10.772> we<00:36:10.917> have<00:36:11.077> right<00:36:11.254> now<00:36:12.297> in<00:36:12.362> the<00:36:12.458> government.

00:36:13.663 --> 00:36:20.184
Aside<00:36:14.051> from<00:36:14.858> giving<00:36:15.116> billions<00:36:15.600> away<00:36:15.988> to<00:36:17.618> foreign<00:36:17.860> countries<00:36:18.425> instead<00:36:18.812> of<00:36:18.909> using<00:36:19.296> it<00:36:19.377> in<00:36:19.539> our<00:36:19.700> own<00:36:19.797> country.

00:36:22.630 --> 00:36:33.546
Finally,<00:36:22.743> just<00:36:22.873> because<00:36:23.164> I<00:36:23.229> want<00:36:23.343> to<00:36:23.391> be<00:36:23.472> respectful<00:36:23.878> of<00:36:23.942> your<00:36:24.105> time,<00:36:24.283> we<00:36:24.445> end<00:36:24.753> every<00:36:25.563> interview<00:36:25.887> with<00:36:26.001> the<00:36:26.082> same<00:36:26.374> question,<00:36:26.876> and<00:36:26.957> that<00:36:27.136> is<00:36:27.281> at<00:36:27.363> CEO.com,<00:36:28.730> we<00:36:29.248> believe<00:36:29.508> the<00:36:29.638> chances<00:36:30.043> one<00:36:30.286> gives<00:36:31.438> is<00:36:31.519> just<00:36:31.729> as<00:36:31.843> important<00:36:32.167> as<00:36:32.248> the<00:36:32.394> chances<00:36:32.800> one<00:36:32.978> takes.

00:36:34.194 --> 00:36:36.886
When<00:36:34.340> you<00:36:34.535> hear<00:36:34.762> that,<00:36:34.989> who<00:36:35.151> gave<00:36:35.346> you<00:36:35.491> a<00:36:35.556> chance<00:36:35.816> to<00:36:35.913> get<00:36:36.059> you<00:36:36.156> to<00:36:36.286> where<00:36:36.448> you<00:36:36.610> are<00:36:36.772> today?

00:36:39.256 --> 00:36:46.227
So<00:36:39.594> in<00:36:39.995> my<00:36:40.156> first<00:36:40.558> book,<00:36:40.879> I<00:36:41.104> wrote<00:36:41.907> all<00:36:42.083> the<00:36:42.164> mentors<00:36:42.806> that<00:36:42.951> I<00:36:43.111> had,<00:36:44.396> and<00:36:45.135> I<00:36:45.280> tried<00:36:45.456> to<00:36:45.681> honor<00:36:45.938> them.

00:36:46.420 --> 00:36:52.492
My<00:36:46.581> grandfather<00:36:47.288> once<00:36:47.480> said,<00:36:48.749> when<00:36:48.894> you<00:36:49.054> learn<00:36:49.231> to<00:36:49.295> shave,<00:36:50.516> try<00:36:50.741> to<00:36:50.837> learn<00:36:51.078> on<00:36:51.159> someone<00:36:51.480> else's<00:36:51.946> face<00:36:52.267> first.

00:36:53.664 --> 00:36:59.109
So<00:36:54.756> my<00:36:54.917> ex-father-in-law,<00:36:55.656> Seymour<00:36:56.057> Holtzman,<00:36:56.523> who's<00:36:56.780> passed,<00:36:57.262> gave<00:36:57.503> me<00:36:57.985> a<00:36:58.146> wonderful<00:36:58.531> opportunity.

00:36:59.671 --> 00:37:04.570
I<00:36:59.816> worked<00:37:00.057> for<00:37:00.153> a<00:37:00.234> 4-star<00:37:00.860> general<00:37:01.342> who<00:37:01.519> became<00:37:01.936> a<00:37:02.081> father<00:37:02.547> figure<00:37:04.265> to<00:37:04.426> me.

00:37:05.316 --> 00:37:15.614
And<00:37:06.203> many<00:37:08.140> older<00:37:08.463> entrepreneurs<00:37:09.286> that<00:37:09.512> I<00:37:09.851> approached<00:37:10.658> that<00:37:12.030> were<00:37:12.111> at<00:37:12.208> a<00:37:12.256> stage<00:37:12.676> in<00:37:12.773> their<00:37:12.983> life<00:37:13.386> where<00:37:13.483> they<00:37:13.709> really<00:37:15.098> helped<00:37:15.324> me<00:37:15.485> out.

00:37:16.696 --> 00:37:24.617
Max<00:37:17.019> Chapman<00:37:17.503> is<00:37:17.584> somebody<00:37:18.310> who—<00:37:20.005> he<00:37:20.086> was<00:37:20.199> a<00:37:20.280> CEO<00:37:20.893> of<00:37:21.055> Kidder<00:37:21.297> Peabody,<00:37:22.346> sold<00:37:22.669> it<00:37:23.008> to<00:37:23.894> General<00:37:24.119> Electric.

00:37:25.340 --> 00:37:27.268
He<00:37:25.420> became<00:37:25.726> the<00:37:25.822> president<00:37:26.384> of<00:37:26.625> Nomura.

00:37:27.332 --> 00:37:31.093
I<00:37:27.429> think<00:37:27.574> he<00:37:27.654> was<00:37:27.831> the<00:37:27.911> first<00:37:28.875> American<00:37:29.421> to<00:37:29.502> be<00:37:29.598> on<00:37:29.679> the<00:37:29.839> board<00:37:30.016> of<00:37:30.096> a<00:37:30.161> Japanese<00:37:30.707> company.

00:37:31.269 --> 00:37:32.635
He<00:37:31.350> was<00:37:31.430> the<00:37:31.526> vice<00:37:31.848> chair<00:37:32.073> of<00:37:32.105> the<00:37:32.314> Amex.

00:37:33.243 --> 00:37:36.175
And<00:37:33.292> he<00:37:33.469> came<00:37:33.807> to<00:37:33.872> this<00:37:34.129> little<00:37:34.435> rinky-dink<00:37:35.321> company,<00:37:35.805> mine.

00:37:38.301 --> 00:37:42.361
I<00:37:38.317> mean,<00:37:39.509> the<00:37:39.670> only<00:37:39.848> reason<00:37:40.154> he<00:37:40.250> did<00:37:40.411> it<00:37:40.492> is<00:37:40.524> because<00:37:40.798> he<00:37:40.879> really<00:37:41.136> wanted<00:37:41.636> to<00:37:42.087> help.

00:37:43.297 --> 00:37:44.410
And<00:37:43.555> he<00:37:43.717> was<00:37:43.878> unbelievable.

00:37:44.459 --> 00:37:45.879
I<00:37:44.475> sold<00:37:44.765> my<00:37:44.911> company<00:37:45.249> because<00:37:45.588> of<00:37:45.653> him.

00:37:46.685 --> 00:37:48.121
He<00:37:47.105> called<00:37:47.444> me<00:37:47.589> into<00:37:47.686> the<00:37:47.831> office.

00:37:48.379 --> 00:37:49.251
I'd<00:37:48.476> been<00:37:48.638> working<00:37:48.944> really<00:37:49.122> hard.

00:37:49.347 --> 00:37:52.317
And<00:37:49.412> he<00:37:49.509> said,<00:37:49.751> "Look,<00:37:50.800> one<00:37:50.896> of<00:37:50.945> my<00:37:51.138> jobs<00:37:51.687> is<00:37:51.784> succession.

00:37:52.365 --> 00:37:55.595
If<00:37:52.511> you<00:37:52.672> get<00:37:52.834> hit<00:37:52.995> by<00:37:53.092> the<00:37:53.238> peruru<00:37:53.803> bus,<00:37:54.998> who<00:37:55.079> do<00:37:55.175> I<00:37:55.321> hire?

00:37:55.660 --> 00:38:00.069
So,<00:37:55.805> I<00:37:55.886> want<00:37:56.048> you<00:37:56.128> to<00:37:56.225> think<00:37:56.403> about<00:37:57.905> and<00:37:58.066> do<00:37:58.308> a<00:37:58.486> whole<00:37:58.712> job<00:37:58.971> description."<00:37:59.617> And<00:37:59.762> I<00:37:59.859> did.

00:38:00.998 --> 00:38:01.771
I<00:38:01.095> went<00:38:01.240> on<00:38:01.272> vacation.

00:38:01.819 --> 00:38:07.514
I<00:38:01.964> came<00:38:02.141> back<00:38:03.090> after<00:38:03.331> a<00:38:03.347> couple<00:38:03.653> of<00:38:03.685> weeks,<00:38:04.795> went<00:38:04.956> to<00:38:05.037> his<00:38:05.181> office<00:38:05.680> and<00:38:05.744> he<00:38:05.841> said,<00:38:06.227> "Hey,<00:38:06.549> this<00:38:06.645> is<00:38:06.790> what<00:38:06.887> you<00:38:07.032> gave<00:38:07.353> me.

00:38:08.718 --> 00:38:09.058
Read<00:38:08.896> it.

00:38:09.139 --> 00:38:12.100
I<00:38:09.204> want<00:38:09.366> you<00:38:09.463> to<00:38:09.543> read<00:38:09.786> it<00:38:10.029> and<00:38:10.110> be<00:38:10.336> honest<00:38:11.064> with<00:38:11.307> me<00:38:11.485> and<00:38:11.631> yourself.

00:38:12.844 --> 00:38:19.615
Is<00:38:13.006> that<00:38:13.265> you?"<00:38:14.090> I'm<00:38:14.381> like,<00:38:16.500> "No."<00:38:17.777> "Well,<00:38:18.342> then<00:38:18.664> we<00:38:18.745> have<00:38:18.987> two<00:38:19.164> choices.

00:38:19.793 --> 00:38:27.422
You<00:38:19.970> come<00:38:20.196> onto<00:38:20.437> the<00:38:20.534> board,<00:38:21.244> we<00:38:21.340> hire<00:38:21.663> that<00:38:21.904> person<00:38:22.404> to<00:38:22.694> build<00:38:22.936> and<00:38:23.033> scale<00:38:23.355> the<00:38:23.436> company,<00:38:24.629> or<00:38:24.887> we<00:38:24.968> sell<00:38:25.290> it."<00:38:26.282> and<00:38:26.427> I<00:38:26.443> decided<00:38:26.909> to<00:38:26.989> sell<00:38:27.262> it.

00:38:27.487 --> 00:38:33.604
And<00:38:27.567> I'm<00:38:27.712> glad<00:38:27.952> I<00:38:28.049> did<00:38:28.354> because<00:38:28.530> that<00:38:28.755> was<00:38:29.157> 2006<00:38:30.762> and<00:38:31.983> Bear<00:38:32.159> Stearns<00:38:32.609> was<00:38:32.705> our<00:38:32.866> clearing<00:38:33.267> agent.

00:38:33.652 --> 00:38:35.836
And<00:38:33.749> 2<00:38:33.990> years<00:38:34.792> later<00:38:35.114> they<00:38:35.258> weren't<00:38:35.419> around.

00:38:36.575 --> 00:38:41.793
So<00:38:38.261> he—<00:38:39.031> Max<00:38:39.353> Chapman<00:38:39.706> is<00:38:39.786> somebody<00:38:40.252> that<00:38:40.493> I<00:38:40.717> owe<00:38:41.199> a<00:38:41.376> ton<00:38:41.681> to.

00:38:41.857 --> 00:38:42.981
He<00:38:41.922> was<00:38:42.034> a<00:38:42.162> former<00:38:42.435> Marine.

00:38:43.142 --> 00:38:44.828
I<00:38:43.302> think<00:38:43.784> he<00:38:43.848> had<00:38:43.977> 10%<00:38:44.186> body<00:38:44.442> fat.

00:38:45.165 --> 00:38:50.833
Everybody<00:38:45.855> was<00:38:45.904> scared<00:38:46.337> of<00:38:46.417> him,<00:38:46.514> but<00:38:46.674> he<00:38:47.220> was<00:38:47.381> just<00:38:48.360> a<00:38:48.601> great<00:38:48.906> guy,<00:38:49.966> a<00:38:49.982> lot<00:38:50.191> of<00:38:50.271> wisdom.

00:38:51.732 --> 00:38:58.948
That<00:38:52.854> took<00:38:53.079> the<00:38:53.175> time<00:38:53.672> to<00:38:54.073> not<00:38:54.298> only<00:38:54.698> be<00:38:54.859> on<00:38:55.019> board<00:38:55.500> but<00:38:55.741> to<00:38:55.917> mentor<00:38:57.344> me<00:38:57.729> and<00:38:57.825> members<00:38:58.306> of<00:38:58.451> my<00:38:58.707> team.

00:38:59.830 --> 00:39:09.787
So<00:39:00.776> I<00:39:00.872> always,<00:39:01.417> you<00:39:01.449> know,<00:39:01.610> the<00:39:01.754> best<00:39:01.994> book,<00:39:02.796> you<00:39:02.860> know,<00:39:03.037> Think<00:39:03.261> and<00:39:03.341> Grow<00:39:03.582> Rich,<00:39:03.999> or<00:39:04.720> I<00:39:04.801> recommend<00:39:05.266> people<00:39:05.522> actually<00:39:06.003> read<00:39:06.324> the<00:39:06.564> real<00:39:06.869> book,<00:39:07.126> which<00:39:07.286> is<00:39:07.510> Laws<00:39:07.847> of<00:39:07.911> Success,<00:39:08.569> which<00:39:08.665> is<00:39:08.713> 1,200<00:39:09.371> pages.

00:39:10.493 --> 00:39:13.908
And<00:39:10.573> the<00:39:10.653> first<00:39:11.134> 108<00:39:12.016> pages<00:39:12.642> about<00:39:12.818> creating<00:39:13.283> a<00:39:13.299> mastermind.

00:39:15.304 --> 00:39:22.000
And<00:39:17.003> I<00:39:17.132> think<00:39:17.308> you<00:39:17.388> become,<00:39:17.949> or<00:39:18.094> we<00:39:18.334> are<00:39:19.008> a<00:39:19.137> combination<00:39:19.881> of<00:39:19.946> the<00:39:20.027> 5<00:39:20.447> people<00:39:20.836> that<00:39:20.933> are<00:39:21.078> closest<00:39:21.644> to<00:39:21.887> you.

00:39:22.065 --> 00:39:24.620
And<00:39:22.210> if<00:39:22.307> you're<00:39:22.469> in<00:39:22.631> business,<00:39:23.116> you<00:39:23.278> really<00:39:23.536> need<00:39:23.763> to<00:39:23.844> have<00:39:24.248> those<00:39:24.361> mentors.

00:39:26.148 --> 00:39:32.117
And<00:39:26.260> what<00:39:26.309> I've<00:39:26.373> been<00:39:26.518> doing<00:39:26.759> recently<00:39:27.258> is<00:39:27.419> writing<00:39:27.692> them<00:39:27.966> thank<00:39:28.143> you<00:39:28.239> notes,<00:39:29.333> finding<00:39:29.736> them,<00:39:30.057> calling<00:39:30.636> them.

00:39:33.066 --> 00:39:34.787
Sol<00:39:33.436> Trujillo<00:39:34.095> is<00:39:34.176> another<00:39:34.498> one.

00:39:35.520 --> 00:40:00.654
We<00:39:35.617> started<00:39:35.892> a<00:39:35.956> business<00:39:36.361> together,<00:39:36.911> Garcia<00:39:37.396> Trujillo,<00:39:38.302> and<00:39:39.662> he<00:39:39.759> grew<00:39:39.921> up<00:39:40.082> poor<00:39:40.406> in<00:39:40.568> Wyoming,<00:39:41.522> barely<00:39:43.318> went<00:39:43.480> to<00:39:43.626> college,<00:39:44.370> but<00:39:46.424> He's<00:39:46.728> run<00:39:46.905> 3<00:39:48.107> $50<00:39:48.427> billion<00:39:50.334> global<00:39:50.671> companies,<00:39:51.616> and<00:39:51.856> he<00:39:52.738> decided,<00:39:53.411> again,<00:39:53.859> he<00:39:53.891> didn't<00:39:54.356> need<00:39:54.500> to<00:39:54.597> do<00:39:54.757> this,<00:39:55.077> but<00:39:55.222> he<00:39:55.382> wanted<00:39:55.590> to<00:39:55.718> help<00:39:56.744> a<00:39:56.920> young<00:39:57.561> Hispanic<00:39:58.667> kid<00:39:59.388> be<00:39:59.484> successful<00:40:00.109> in<00:40:00.205> business.

00:40:01.327 --> 00:40:10.477
So<00:40:01.647> he<00:40:01.808> came<00:40:02.112> onto<00:40:02.272> the<00:40:02.369> board,<00:40:02.753> we<00:40:02.801> became<00:40:03.090> partners,<00:40:03.891> and<00:40:04.997> I<00:40:05.093> would<00:40:05.253> not<00:40:05.589> be<00:40:06.198> where<00:40:06.295> I<00:40:06.375> am<00:40:06.679> today<00:40:07.080> had<00:40:07.240> it<00:40:07.336> not<00:40:07.657> been<00:40:07.897> for<00:40:09.243> all<00:40:09.339> of<00:40:09.435> these<00:40:10.124> people.

00:40:11.408 --> 00:40:16.610
And<00:40:12.708> I<00:40:12.789> tell<00:40:12.965> my<00:40:13.174> kids,<00:40:13.816> you<00:40:13.913> got<00:40:14.041> to<00:40:14.137> reach<00:40:14.539> out<00:40:14.860> and<00:40:15.839> get<00:40:16.016> mentors.

00:40:16.947 --> 00:40:22.792
And<00:40:17.445> it's<00:40:18.810> your<00:40:18.971> fault<00:40:19.693> if<00:40:20.319> you<00:40:20.432> don't<00:40:20.657> pick<00:40:20.817> up<00:40:20.898> the<00:40:20.978> phone<00:40:22.022> and<00:40:22.503> do<00:40:22.600> it.

00:40:24.093 --> 00:40:30.355
And<00:40:24.446> if<00:40:24.912> one<00:40:25.056> of<00:40:25.089> them<00:40:25.249> says<00:40:25.570> no,<00:40:25.956> then<00:40:26.421> ask<00:40:26.598> the<00:40:26.678> next<00:40:26.999> and<00:40:27.144> ask<00:40:27.304> the<00:40:27.337> next<00:40:27.883> until<00:40:28.268> you<00:40:28.300> surround<00:40:28.734> yourself<00:40:29.231> with<00:40:29.328> some<00:40:29.569> amazing<00:40:29.970> people.

00:40:31.736 --> 00:40:32.555
I<00:40:31.817> think<00:40:31.961> that's<00:40:32.202> good<00:40:32.298> advice.

00:40:32.619 --> 00:40:34.948
Charlie,<00:40:32.941> thank<00:40:33.117> you<00:40:33.246> so<00:40:33.438> much<00:40:33.727> for<00:40:34.450> coming<00:40:34.611> on<00:40:34.707> the<00:40:34.787> show.

00:40:35.012 --> 00:40:35.863
It<00:40:35.044> means<00:40:35.269> a<00:40:35.333> lot<00:40:35.462> to<00:40:35.574> have<00:40:35.815> you.

00:40:36.778 --> 00:40:39.107
When<00:40:36.875> you<00:40:36.955> publish<00:40:37.276> your<00:40:37.372> next<00:40:37.678> book,<00:40:37.983> come<00:40:38.705> on<00:40:38.802> the<00:40:38.882> show.

00:40:39.187 --> 00:40:40.343
Let's<00:40:39.348> talk<00:40:39.588> about<00:40:40.263> it.

00:40:40.472 --> 00:40:41.375
I'm<00:40:40.809> excited<00:40:41.130> to<00:40:41.194> read<00:40:41.355> it.

00:40:42.198 --> 00:40:42.680
Love<00:40:42.391> to.

00:40:43.002 --> 00:40:46.283
I<00:40:43.163> will<00:40:43.420> reach<00:40:43.806> out<00:40:43.967> to<00:40:44.048> you,<00:40:44.208> Clint,<00:40:44.771> and<00:40:44.948> we'll<00:40:45.527> certainly<00:40:46.058> do<00:40:46.219> that.

00:40:46.332 --> 00:40:53.140
I'm<00:40:46.460> really<00:40:46.782> excited<00:40:47.265> because<00:40:47.522> it's<00:40:47.683> a<00:40:47.699> novel<00:40:49.114> and<00:40:51.109> I've<00:40:51.206> been<00:40:51.367> working<00:40:51.770> on<00:40:51.867> it<00:40:52.028> 4<00:40:52.157> or<00:40:52.253> 5<00:40:52.576> hours<00:40:52.914> a<00:40:53.043> day.

00:40:54.510 --> 00:41:00.812
I<00:40:54.590> did<00:40:54.751> a<00:40:54.832> 360<00:40:55.541> review<00:40:55.960> and<00:40:56.041> they<00:40:56.138> said<00:40:56.428> I<00:40:56.444> was<00:40:56.669> working<00:40:57.088> too<00:40:57.266> much<00:40:59.248> in<00:40:59.345> the<00:40:59.506> business,<00:40:59.989> not<00:41:00.215> on<00:41:00.296> the<00:41:00.376> business.

00:41:00.877 --> 00:41:11.225
My<00:41:01.039> wife<00:41:01.265> said,<00:41:02.072> "You<00:41:02.105> need<00:41:02.266> a<00:41:02.331> new<00:41:02.492> obsession,<00:41:03.235> something<00:41:03.687> with<00:41:03.800> a<00:41:03.865> 90%<00:41:04.770> failure<00:41:05.238> rate<00:41:05.496> to<00:41:05.626> get<00:41:05.868> you<00:41:05.965> excited."<00:41:06.546> So,<00:41:06.756> it's<00:41:06.998> like,<00:41:07.192> okay,<00:41:07.580> I<00:41:07.661> want<00:41:07.790> to<00:41:07.822> write<00:41:08.000> a<00:41:08.145> book<00:41:08.404> that<00:41:08.549> gets<00:41:08.775> picked<00:41:09.017> up<00:41:09.195> as<00:41:09.340> a<00:41:09.373> major<00:41:10.548> feature<00:41:10.870> film.

00:41:11.289 --> 00:41:12.691
That's<00:41:11.531> like<00:41:11.837> 1<00:41:11.950> of<00:41:12.095> 2<00:41:12.272> million.

00:41:12.836 --> 00:41:14.803
So<00:41:13.288> I<00:41:13.320> said,<00:41:13.707> okay,<00:41:14.013> I<00:41:14.029> like<00:41:14.271> those<00:41:14.577> odds.

00:41:14.867 --> 00:41:18.284
So<00:41:15.641> I've<00:41:15.802> been<00:41:15.947> working<00:41:16.285> on<00:41:16.430> it<00:41:16.592> for<00:41:17.252> 2<00:41:17.414> and<00:41:17.478> a<00:41:17.494> half<00:41:17.736> years<00:41:18.058> now.

00:41:19.297 --> 00:41:20.093
That's<00:41:19.476> incredible.

00:41:20.287 --> 00:41:20.726
That's<00:41:20.531> incredible.

00:41:20.774 --> 00:41:22.285
Charlie,<00:41:21.164> thank<00:41:21.343> you<00:41:21.424> so<00:41:21.603> much<00:41:21.830> for<00:41:21.911> coming<00:41:22.155> on.

00:41:23.129 --> 00:41:23.989
Thank<00:41:23.519> you,<00:41:23.697> Clint.

00:41:24.249 --> 00:41:24.980
Really<00:41:24.428> appreciate<00:41:24.899> it.

00:41:37.390 --> 00:41:41.949
Yeah,<00:41:38.481> one<00:41:38.806> step<00:41:39.132> closer<00:41:39.849> to<00:41:40.516> the<00:41:40.842> heaven.

00:41:44.080 --> 00:41:47.665
We<00:41:44.259> are<00:41:44.357> Wabi,<00:41:44.927> yes,<00:41:45.318> we<00:41:45.563> rule<00:41:46.312> our<00:41:46.638> own<00:41:46.964> domain.

00:41:49.040 --> 00:41:53.046
