- Description: The founder of Rusk Industries on shop classes, shaming parents, and why the boss gets paid last.
- Author: Clint Betts

# The million-dollar ditch digger

Ken Rusk got his first job at 15, digging ditches around foundations for a basement repair company in northern Ohio. He stayed with the shovel and never went to college. The company he built, Rusk Industries, spans foundation repair, waterproofing, office construction, and residential development in Toledo. He published [Blue-Collar Cash](https://www.kenrusk.com/blue-collar-cash/?ref=ceo.com) in July 2020, in the middle of a pandemic, and it still hit the Wall Street Journal bestseller list.

"I was doing it before culture was even cool," Rusk said on the CEO.com Podcast. "It was all kind of born out of necessity. I started working on culture 35, 38 years ago because we had to. I mean, we're a bunch of ditch diggers, proud as we can be. There were six of us. Now there's 200 of us."

Rusk dates the skilled labor shortage to the eighties, when high schools started pulling shop classes to make room for computer labs. "Why did we have to choose one or the other?" he said. Shop class was where millions of kids accidentally found out they wanted to be carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and welders. Colleges, meanwhile, "got really good at shaming parents" into believing a four-year degree was the only respectable outcome, and the result was an oversupply on one side of the economy and a shortage on the other. "Where supply is low, and demand is high, that's where the money goes."

He is not against college. He wants his surgeon credentialed. "Just to go to play beer pong for four years and come out and go, okay, now I'm in debt 80,000 to 100,000 grand, and I have no prospects for the degree that I got. That's where I think colleges really kind of snowed us a little bit."

The numbers have been moving his way. Construction posted one of the strongest sector gains in the January jobs report, Rusk [wrote on his blog in February](https://www.kenrusk.com/kens-blog/the-quiet-comeback-blue-collar-jobs-at-the-start-of-2026/?ref=ceo.com), and long-term demand for skilled labor, he argues, is not in question.

His management thinking starts from a simple observation about where the owner stands. A company takes in people and materials at one end and produces profit at the other, and the boss collects last. "I can't get what I want, nor can my company get what it wants or needs until all of you get what you want for yourselves first," he told the CEO.com Podcast. Every employee at Rusk Industries is expected to be chasing something personal, and Rusk considers it his job to know what it is. "If you have 200 people chasing something very personal for themselves within your four walls, those goals, those timed pathways, they will align with the corporate goals almost every time. That's where the beautiful thing called momentum happens. And then get out of the way."

He teaches vision with a puzzle. Building a 1,000-piece puzzle requires looking at the box cover about 100,000 times, and most people are assembling a life without ever having drawn the cover. "I teach people vision all day, every day, because without it, there is no destination. Without a destination, there's no path; without a path, there's no anticipation. There's just kind of boredom every Friday, chasing the paycheck life."

Blue-Collar Cash found the readers Rusk expected, parents buying it for kids between 17 and 30\. It also found readers he did not. Mid-career professionals started calling him, including one who had spent 15 years selling medical supplies from a cubicle, quit, and went back to plumbing. Companies started buying copies for their staff and reading a chapter a week, which suited Rusk fine, since his stated goal is a workforce of intrapreneurs who run their divisions like their own businesses.

Rusk has supported Make-A-Wish for more than 20 years, and around the book's launch he [committed a long-term $100,000 sponsorship and pledged his author royalties](https://wish.org/node/58836?ref=ceo.com) to the organization. Proceeds from his online course go to first responders, kids, and Gold Star families. The course exists because he worried the book would become shelf decoration. "I never wanted my book to just be one of the crowd, one of the many holding up your shelf."

He built part of that work around veterans, describing service members who drive a tank one day and stand in a grocery store buying peanut butter the next, in a population he says is losing 33 people a day to suicide. His answer is the one he gives everyone. A soldier who decides on the electrician's trade before discharge comes home to a path instead of a void.

On artificial intelligence, Rusk is patient. "I think it's going to be a really long time before a robot drives a pickup truck in your front yard, pulls out a pine tree, and plants it next to your house." Robots are good at precise, repeatable movement, and the trades run on improvisation. "Kind of like the nail gun did to the hammer. It'll enhance what we do, but I'm not so sure it's going to take what we do anytime soon."

Every CEO.com Podcast conversation ends with the same question, grounded in the belief that the chances one gives are just as important as the chances one takes: who gave you a chance? Rusk named two people. His father, a Marine he calls "the imperfect perfectionist," who held him accountable for straight lines on the lawn. And his first boss, who "lived a life like Mick Jagger" and taught him to live big. "Those two people combined created a pretty cool but disciplined, but living life big kind of persona in me, and I love them both for it."

His legacy, as he would write it: "He had a blast. He lived great, but he also cared a hell of a lot about other people and their successes as well."

Man,<00:00:41.303> your<00:00:41.704> story<00:00:42.186> is<00:00:42.764> fascinating.

00:00:43.953 --> 00:00:51.147
Well,<00:00:44.113> you<00:00:44.210> know,<00:00:44.740> I<00:00:44.900> guess<00:00:45.318> they<00:00:45.703> accuse<00:00:46.185> me<00:00:46.362> of<00:00:46.522> being<00:00:46.843> a<00:00:47.004> blue-collar<00:00:47.566> entrepreneur<00:00:49.172> of<00:00:49.317> sorts,<00:00:50.344> whatever<00:00:50.698> that<00:00:51.003> is.

00:00:51.404 --> 00:00:54.713
And<00:00:51.629> yeah,<00:00:52.545> you<00:00:52.785> know,<00:00:53.187> it<00:00:53.219> was<00:00:53.412> all<00:00:53.508> kind<00:00:53.685> of<00:00:53.813> born<00:00:53.990> out<00:00:54.135> of<00:00:54.167> necessity.

00:00:54.793 --> 00:01:00.568
You<00:00:54.954> know,<00:00:55.098> I<00:00:55.130> started<00:00:55.660> working<00:00:56.062> on<00:00:56.238> culture<00:00:57.298> 35,<00:00:58.164> 38<00:00:58.949> years<00:00:59.205> ago<00:00:59.526> because<00:01:00.007> we<00:01:00.151> had<00:01:00.408> to.

00:01:00.648 --> 00:01:04.592
I<00:01:00.664> mean,<00:01:01.049> we're<00:01:01.770> a<00:01:01.915> bunch<00:01:02.155> of<00:01:02.235> ditch<00:01:02.492> diggers,<00:01:02.892> proud<00:01:03.678> as<00:01:04.015> we<00:01:04.175> can<00:01:04.335> be.

00:01:05.137 --> 00:01:07.701
There<00:01:05.922> was<00:01:06.114> 6<00:01:06.483> of<00:01:06.563> us,<00:01:06.724> now<00:01:06.820> there's<00:01:07.044> 200<00:01:07.525> of<00:01:07.637> us.

00:01:07.846 --> 00:01:17.720
And<00:01:08.968> you<00:01:09.128> can't<00:01:10.090> get<00:01:10.266> away<00:01:10.507> with<00:01:10.731> running<00:01:11.773> a<00:01:12.735> culturally<00:01:13.392> inept<00:01:13.777> organization<00:01:15.075> if<00:01:15.236> you're<00:01:15.396> doing<00:01:15.620> that<00:01:15.797> kind<00:01:16.053> of<00:01:16.181> hard<00:01:16.839> laborious<00:01:17.480> work.

00:01:17.816 --> 00:01:28.300
So,<00:01:18.907> it's<00:01:19.083> funny<00:01:19.307> 'cause<00:01:19.548> I<00:01:19.564> have<00:01:19.724> people<00:01:20.045> that<00:01:20.606> come<00:01:20.830> to<00:01:20.910> me<00:01:21.023> now<00:01:21.247> and<00:01:21.343> say,<00:01:21.552> "Oh,<00:01:22.433> I<00:01:22.529> guess<00:01:22.770> I<00:01:22.850> have<00:01:23.010> to<00:01:23.074> start<00:01:23.315> working<00:01:23.571> on<00:01:23.667> this<00:01:23.876> culture<00:01:24.213> thing."<00:01:24.453> And<00:01:24.501> I'm<00:01:24.613> like,<00:01:24.774> "Well,<00:01:24.918> I<00:01:25.014> was<00:01:25.174> doing<00:01:25.479> it<00:01:25.896> before<00:01:26.216> culture<00:01:26.553> was<00:01:26.761> even<00:01:26.922> cool."<00:01:27.563> So,<00:01:27.980> yeah.

00:01:28.990 --> 00:01:32.554
Yeah,<00:01:29.343> it<00:01:29.407> was<00:01:29.519> kind<00:01:29.728> of<00:01:29.808> born<00:01:29.985> out<00:01:30.226> of<00:01:30.402> the<00:01:30.547> necessity<00:01:31.189> of<00:01:31.334> that,<00:01:31.912> and<00:01:32.056> here<00:01:32.233> we<00:01:32.377> are.

00:01:33.116 --> 00:01:38.254
So,<00:01:33.277> give<00:01:33.453> us<00:01:33.614> a<00:01:33.678> sense<00:01:33.999> for<00:01:34.385> Blue<00:01:34.641> Collar<00:01:35.107> Cash<00:01:36.070> and<00:01:36.392> why<00:01:36.632> you<00:01:36.729> think<00:01:36.889> this<00:01:37.066> is<00:01:37.130> so<00:01:37.291> important,<00:01:37.692> particularly<00:01:38.110> now.

00:01:39.121 --> 00:01:47.101
And<00:01:39.202> I<00:01:39.619> want<00:01:39.763> to<00:01:39.796> know<00:01:40.566> why<00:01:40.727> you<00:01:40.823> think<00:01:40.984> it's<00:01:41.080> important,<00:01:42.011> maybe<00:01:42.252> even<00:01:42.381> more<00:01:42.686> so,<00:01:43.071> because<00:01:43.312> I<00:01:43.392> think<00:01:43.617> I<00:01:43.633> have<00:01:43.794> an<00:01:43.858> argument<00:01:44.195> as<00:01:44.275> to<00:01:44.420> why<00:01:44.597> I<00:01:44.677> think<00:01:44.853> it<00:01:44.918> might<00:01:45.078> be<00:01:45.223> more<00:01:45.335> important<00:01:46.266> in<00:01:46.363> the<00:01:46.604> age<00:01:46.828> of<00:01:46.989> AI.

00:01:48.193 --> 00:01:53.315
Well,<00:01:48.290> taking<00:01:48.611> the<00:01:48.691> first<00:01:48.996> part<00:01:49.157> of<00:01:49.253> it,<00:01:49.558> I'm<00:01:50.778> a<00:01:50.859> big<00:01:51.019> believer<00:01:51.405> in<00:01:51.501> supply<00:01:51.806> and<00:01:52.047> demand,<00:01:52.545> no<00:01:52.641> matter<00:01:52.930> what<00:01:53.090> it<00:01:53.187> is.

00:01:55.033 --> 00:02:06.428
I<00:01:55.194> just<00:01:55.418> couldn't<00:01:55.755> believe<00:01:56.863> that<00:01:57.906> back<00:01:58.548> in<00:01:58.644> the<00:01:58.869> '80s,<00:01:59.286> we<00:01:59.366> started<00:01:59.768> getting<00:02:00.008> rid<00:02:00.153> of<00:02:00.185> shop<00:02:00.490> class<00:02:00.747> in<00:02:00.891> our<00:02:01.036> high<00:02:01.148> schools<00:02:01.613> and<00:02:01.694> replacing<00:02:02.191> those<00:02:02.400> rooms<00:02:02.657> with<00:02:02.817> computers,<00:02:03.363> which<00:02:03.539> is<00:02:03.620> fine,<00:02:04.583> but<00:02:04.888> why<00:02:05.016> did<00:02:05.144> we<00:02:05.289> have<00:02:05.465> to<00:02:05.610> choose<00:02:05.931> one<00:02:06.091> or<00:02:06.123> the<00:02:06.332> other?

00:02:06.492 --> 00:02:07.439
Why<00:02:06.669> couldn't<00:02:06.894> we<00:02:06.926> have<00:02:07.070> had<00:02:07.295> both?

00:02:07.552 --> 00:02:20.247
Because<00:02:08.274> that's<00:02:08.579> literally<00:02:09.060> where<00:02:09.173> millions<00:02:09.718> of<00:02:09.799> kids<00:02:10.120> across<00:02:10.505> the<00:02:10.585> country<00:02:11.789> accidentally<00:02:12.527> discovered<00:02:13.073> how<00:02:13.314> cool<00:02:13.538> it<00:02:13.570> was<00:02:13.795> to<00:02:13.891> be<00:02:13.988> a<00:02:14.052> carpenter<00:02:14.501> or<00:02:14.614> a<00:02:14.694> plumber,<00:02:15.015> an<00:02:15.095> electrician,<00:02:16.202> a<00:02:16.299> welder,<00:02:17.358> someone<00:02:17.631> who<00:02:17.743> did<00:02:18.048> hair<00:02:18.401> or<00:02:18.546> nails<00:02:19.027> or<00:02:19.172> a<00:02:19.268> baker<00:02:19.573> or<00:02:19.910> whatever.

00:02:20.938 --> 00:02:28.633
And<00:02:21.982> so,<00:02:22.158> you<00:02:22.303> had<00:02:22.416> that<00:02:22.705> kind<00:02:22.946> of<00:02:23.685> black<00:02:24.086> hole<00:02:24.568> of<00:02:24.793> missing<00:02:25.275> people<00:02:25.853> that<00:02:27.058> used<00:02:27.283> to<00:02:27.380> just<00:02:27.621> feed<00:02:27.878> into<00:02:28.103> the<00:02:28.183> system.

00:02:29.372 --> 00:02:42.754
And<00:02:29.452> then,<00:02:29.548> you<00:02:29.693> have<00:02:29.805> these<00:02:30.095> kids<00:02:30.352> that<00:02:31.091> now<00:02:31.396> instead<00:02:31.733> of<00:02:31.862> going<00:02:32.055> out<00:02:32.103> and<00:02:32.279> building<00:02:32.585> tree<00:02:32.761> forts<00:02:33.163> with<00:02:33.709> a<00:02:33.886> hammer<00:02:34.207> and<00:02:34.288> nails<00:02:34.689> and<00:02:34.786> some<00:02:34.994> plywood<00:02:35.332> they<00:02:35.412> found,<00:02:37.099> they're<00:02:37.565> working<00:02:38.143> building<00:02:38.529> Minecraft<00:02:39.091> on<00:02:39.171> their<00:02:39.284> cell<00:02:39.589> phones,<00:02:39.910> which<00:02:40.071> isn't<00:02:40.376> the<00:02:40.408> same<00:02:40.714> thing<00:02:41.019> as<00:02:41.115> you<00:02:41.260> know,<00:02:41.437> it's<00:02:41.661> just<00:02:41.822> not<00:02:41.999> the<00:02:42.063> same<00:02:42.320> experience.

00:02:42.802 --> 00:02:55.441
So,<00:02:43.846> if<00:02:43.991> you<00:02:44.152> pair<00:02:44.328> those<00:02:44.553> couple<00:02:44.875> things<00:02:45.196> up<00:02:45.292> with<00:02:45.437> the<00:02:45.533> fact<00:02:45.758> that<00:02:45.854> colleges<00:02:46.352> got<00:02:46.642> really<00:02:46.899> good<00:02:47.284> at<00:02:47.590> shaming<00:02:48.023> parents<00:02:48.505> to<00:02:48.649> this<00:02:48.826> day<00:02:49.147> that<00:02:49.308> if<00:02:49.452> you<00:02:49.500> don't<00:02:49.870> take<00:02:50.110> your<00:02:50.191> kid<00:02:50.432> through<00:02:50.576> college,<00:02:50.913> they'll<00:02:51.154> be<00:02:51.234> a<00:02:51.250> loser<00:02:51.861> and<00:02:51.941> they'll<00:02:52.117> never<00:02:52.423> amount<00:02:52.679> to<00:02:52.744> anything,<00:02:53.225> which<00:02:53.386> has<00:02:54.189> literally<00:02:54.622> never<00:02:55.008> been<00:02:55.232> true.

00:02:55.955 --> 00:02:57.175
And<00:02:56.051> it's<00:02:56.276> certainly<00:02:56.549> not<00:02:56.774> true<00:02:57.031> now.

00:02:57.256 --> 00:02:59.134
It's<00:02:57.416> more<00:02:57.802> untrue<00:02:58.155> now<00:02:58.380> than<00:02:58.540> it's<00:02:58.765> ever<00:02:58.942> been.

00:03:00.210 --> 00:03:07.981
And<00:03:00.306> that,<00:03:00.708> that's<00:03:01.013> all<00:03:01.173> created<00:03:01.591> this<00:03:01.816> enormous<00:03:02.105> supply<00:03:02.474> and<00:03:02.554> demand<00:03:02.875> problem<00:03:03.357> where,<00:03:04.224> you<00:03:04.256> know,<00:03:04.465> as<00:03:04.561> you<00:03:04.706> know,<00:03:04.979> supply,<00:03:05.428> where<00:03:05.525> supply<00:03:05.990> is<00:03:06.151> low<00:03:06.263> and<00:03:06.392> demand<00:03:06.665> is<00:03:06.793> high,<00:03:06.970> that's<00:03:07.211> where<00:03:07.307> the<00:03:07.435> money<00:03:07.676> goes.

00:03:08.495 --> 00:03:10.101
That<00:03:08.656> is<00:03:08.752> certainly<00:03:09.121> what<00:03:09.282> you're<00:03:09.362> seeing<00:03:09.699> today.

00:03:10.326 --> 00:03:12.493
And<00:03:10.663> that's<00:03:10.904> kind<00:03:11.064> of<00:03:11.096> like<00:03:11.369> what<00:03:11.482> I'm,<00:03:11.723> I'm<00:03:11.867> trying<00:03:12.108> to<00:03:12.172> talk<00:03:12.365> about.

00:03:13.152 --> 00:03:15.046
I<00:03:13.232> think<00:03:13.409> you're<00:03:13.553> dead<00:03:13.794> right<00:03:14.035> about<00:03:14.276> the<00:03:14.356> college<00:03:14.837> thing.

00:03:15.159 --> 00:03:24.214
Like<00:03:15.704> we're<00:03:16.042> kind<00:03:16.266> of<00:03:16.443> now<00:03:16.941> it's<00:03:17.326> pretty,<00:03:17.792> uh,<00:03:18.755> it's<00:03:18.867> not<00:03:19.157> controversial<00:03:19.975> to<00:03:20.056> say<00:03:20.296> like,<00:03:20.521> hey,<00:03:20.698> you<00:03:20.778> don't<00:03:20.923> need<00:03:21.003> to<00:03:21.083> go<00:03:21.180> to<00:03:21.260> college,<00:03:22.143> but<00:03:22.320> it<00:03:22.384> should<00:03:22.625> have<00:03:22.849> never<00:03:23.187> been<00:03:23.427> controversial.

00:03:25.499 --> 00:03:35.277
Like<00:03:26.542> we<00:03:26.639> should<00:03:26.799> have<00:03:26.879> been<00:03:27.040> saying<00:03:27.329> this<00:03:27.522> in<00:03:27.602> the<00:03:27.827> '80s,<00:03:28.549> the<00:03:28.662> '90s,<00:03:29.593> the<00:03:29.689> 2000s,<00:03:30.797> you<00:03:30.877> know,<00:03:31.134> like<00:03:31.921> it<00:03:32.001> is<00:03:32.258> interesting<00:03:32.884> that<00:03:32.997> it's<00:03:33.205> just<00:03:33.462> now<00:03:34.105> that<00:03:34.249> we're<00:03:34.410> waking<00:03:34.731> up<00:03:34.843> to<00:03:34.907> this<00:03:35.068> fact.

00:03:35.325 --> 00:03:41.153
And<00:03:35.453> again,<00:03:35.935> saying<00:03:36.352> that<00:03:36.657> you<00:03:36.690> don't<00:03:36.898> have<00:03:37.139> to<00:03:37.219> go<00:03:37.251> to<00:03:37.380> college<00:03:37.637> is<00:03:37.717> not<00:03:37.813> the<00:03:37.942> same<00:03:38.135> thing<00:03:38.279> as<00:03:38.359> saying<00:03:38.600> college<00:03:39.002> is<00:03:39.226> bad<00:03:39.724> or<00:03:40.109> you<00:03:40.206> shouldn't<00:03:40.768> go<00:03:40.864> to<00:03:40.992> college.

00:03:41.314 --> 00:03:41.506
Right?

00:03:42.774 --> 00:03:44.586
Maybe<00:03:42.934> you<00:03:43.014> should,<00:03:43.335> maybe<00:03:43.559> you<00:03:43.640> shouldn't,<00:03:44.041> who<00:03:44.217> knows?

00:03:44.939 --> 00:03:47.408
But<00:03:45.805> absolutely<00:03:46.302> you<00:03:46.462> have<00:03:46.703> to<00:03:46.847> go<00:03:46.879> to<00:03:47.024> college?

00:03:47.489 --> 00:03:48.467
No,<00:03:47.745> that's<00:03:47.970> never<00:03:48.146> been<00:03:48.307> true.

00:03:48.531 --> 00:03:49.686
I<00:03:48.691> think<00:03:48.804> you're<00:03:48.932> dead<00:03:49.092> right<00:03:49.269> about<00:03:49.509> that.

00:03:50.215 --> 00:03:57.143
Well,<00:03:50.391> you<00:03:50.472> know,<00:03:51.017> it's<00:03:51.514> funny<00:03:51.658> you<00:03:51.771> say<00:03:51.995> that<00:03:52.156> because<00:03:52.540> I<00:03:52.556> have<00:03:52.717> a<00:03:52.781> lot<00:03:52.941> of<00:03:53.022> friends<00:03:53.438> that<00:03:53.839> are<00:03:54.481> doctors<00:03:54.882> and<00:03:55.026> surgeons<00:03:55.507> and<00:03:55.604> lawyers<00:03:55.988> and<00:03:56.085> accountants<00:03:56.566> and<00:03:56.630> all<00:03:56.742> that<00:03:56.903> stuff.

00:03:57.207 --> 00:04:04.921
And<00:03:57.352> hey,<00:03:58.153> if<00:03:58.266> you're<00:03:58.394> going<00:03:58.522> to<00:03:58.570> operate<00:03:58.955> on<00:03:58.987> my<00:03:59.132> shoulder<00:03:59.533> so<00:03:59.693> I<00:03:59.725> can<00:03:59.837> get<00:03:59.934> back<00:04:00.190> out<00:04:00.319> on<00:04:00.415> the<00:04:00.479> golf<00:04:00.735> course,<00:04:01.441> Clint,<00:04:02.002> I<00:04:02.099> want<00:04:02.339> you<00:04:02.371> to<00:04:02.419> know<00:04:02.564> everything<00:04:02.885> there<00:04:02.981> is<00:04:03.093> to<00:04:03.157> know<00:04:03.285> about<00:04:03.462> a<00:04:03.478> knife<00:04:03.863> before<00:04:04.087> you<00:04:04.184> come<00:04:04.344> at<00:04:04.504> me<00:04:04.649> with<00:04:04.889> it.

00:04:04.985 --> 00:04:05.627
I<00:04:05.146> get<00:04:05.370> that.

00:04:06.188 --> 00:04:10.169
But<00:04:06.349> notwithstanding<00:04:07.070> those<00:04:07.872> job-specific<00:04:09.253> type<00:04:09.558> of<00:04:09.639> degrees.

00:04:10.779 --> 00:04:25.743
Just<00:04:11.068> to<00:04:11.228> go<00:04:11.646> to<00:04:12.208> play<00:04:12.529> beer<00:04:12.754> pong<00:04:13.011> for<00:04:13.171> 4<00:04:13.476> years<00:04:13.813> and<00:04:13.974> come<00:04:14.151> out<00:04:14.263> and<00:04:14.375> go,<00:04:14.616> "Okay,<00:04:14.873> now<00:04:15.098> I'm<00:04:15.275> in<00:04:15.339> debt<00:04:15.403> $80,000<00:04:16.543> to<00:04:16.623> $100,000<00:04:17.330> and<00:04:17.490> I<00:04:17.506> have<00:04:17.731> no<00:04:19.433> prospects<00:04:20.156> for<00:04:20.381> the<00:04:20.477> degree<00:04:20.959> that<00:04:21.119> I<00:04:21.280> got."<00:04:22.243> That's<00:04:22.709> where<00:04:23.046> I<00:04:23.142> think<00:04:23.447> colleges<00:04:24.074> really<00:04:24.330> kind<00:04:24.587> of<00:04:24.652> snowed<00:04:25.117> us<00:04:25.294> a<00:04:25.310> little<00:04:25.535> bit.

00:04:26.402 --> 00:04:31.765
And<00:04:27.301> I<00:04:27.381> think<00:04:27.622> we<00:04:27.686> were<00:04:27.847> all<00:04:28.024> just<00:04:28.264> kind<00:04:28.393> of<00:04:28.505> asleep<00:04:28.842> at<00:04:28.971> the<00:04:29.003> switch<00:04:29.533> from<00:04:29.774> parents<00:04:30.175> to<00:04:30.271> guidance<00:04:30.593> counselors<00:04:31.090> to<00:04:31.235> high<00:04:31.395> schools.

00:04:32.262 --> 00:04:36.372
It<00:04:32.359> was<00:04:32.584> all,<00:04:33.306> I'm<00:04:34.189> so<00:04:34.510> proud<00:04:34.767> of<00:04:34.847> my<00:04:35.007> kid<00:04:35.264> if<00:04:35.392> he<00:04:35.489> has<00:04:35.713> a<00:04:35.730> college<00:04:36.115> degree.

00:04:36.468 --> 00:04:37.174
And,<00:04:36.532> that's<00:04:36.773> crazy.

00:04:37.559 --> 00:04:40.384
I<00:04:37.575> actually<00:04:37.960> wrote<00:04:38.699> an<00:04:38.843> open<00:04:39.084> letter<00:04:39.341> to<00:04:39.421> parents<00:04:39.742> on<00:04:39.806> my<00:04:39.967> website.

00:04:55.214 --> 00:05:09.561
And<00:04:55.567> now,<00:04:55.952> for<00:04:56.193> some<00:04:56.514> reason,<00:04:57.059> you<00:04:57.140> think<00:04:57.396> the<00:04:57.557> only<00:04:57.782> way<00:04:57.878> that<00:04:58.103> you<00:04:58.199> can<00:04:58.424> walk<00:04:58.680> the<00:04:58.761> Earth<00:04:59.082> and<00:04:59.162> say,<00:04:59.338> 'I'm<00:04:59.483> a<00:04:59.563> good<00:04:59.724> parent,'<00:05:00.221> is<00:05:00.430> if<00:05:00.590> they<00:05:00.671> have<00:05:00.847> a<00:05:00.911> 4-year<00:05:01.329> degree<00:05:01.650> on<00:05:01.794> the<00:05:01.874> wall."<00:05:02.292> That's<00:05:02.532> the<00:05:02.677> part<00:05:02.998> where<00:05:03.575> I<00:05:03.720> go<00:05:03.880> sideways<00:05:04.538> with<00:05:05.485> that<00:05:05.726> thinking<00:05:06.143> because<00:05:07.346> I<00:05:07.426> have<00:05:07.651> a<00:05:07.667> lot<00:05:07.908> of<00:05:07.940> friends<00:05:08.325> that<00:05:08.470> are<00:05:08.614> all<00:05:08.710> blue-collar<00:05:09.192> guys.

00:05:09.657 --> 00:05:10.604
They're<00:05:09.817> all<00:05:09.914> entrepreneurs.

00:05:10.652 --> 00:05:11.647
They're<00:05:10.860> all<00:05:10.957> just<00:05:11.342> killing<00:05:11.599> it.

00:05:12.465 --> 00:05:14.792
And<00:05:13.267> those<00:05:13.524> jobs<00:05:13.909> haven't<00:05:14.230> gone<00:05:14.471> away.

00:05:14.888 --> 00:05:23.682
I<00:05:14.904> mean,<00:05:15.674> 167<00:05:16.733> million<00:05:16.974> people<00:05:17.279> working<00:05:17.600> in<00:05:17.632> our<00:05:17.776> country,<00:05:18.178> 77<00:05:19.140> million<00:05:19.686> of<00:05:19.863> those<00:05:20.103> people<00:05:20.440> do<00:05:21.002> something<00:05:21.531> with<00:05:21.692> their<00:05:21.788> hands<00:05:22.590> to<00:05:22.767> this<00:05:22.992> very<00:05:23.248> moment.

00:05:24.340 --> 00:05:25.800
And<00:05:24.901> that's<00:05:25.158> never<00:05:25.399> gone<00:05:25.623> away.

00:05:25.896 --> 00:05:29.667
So,<00:05:26.666> trying<00:05:26.859> to<00:05:26.923> shove<00:05:27.244> everybody<00:05:27.645> into<00:05:27.806> school<00:05:28.367> oversupplied<00:05:29.009> that<00:05:29.250> side.

00:05:30.172 --> 00:05:32.916
Undersupplied<00:05:30.886> our<00:05:30.984> side,<00:05:31.390> and<00:05:31.650> now<00:05:31.942> you're<00:05:32.056> seeing<00:05:32.348> the<00:05:32.380> result<00:05:32.770> of<00:05:32.851> that.

00:05:33.014 --> 00:05:36.392
It<00:05:33.095> is<00:05:33.257> kind<00:05:33.436> of<00:05:33.501> funny<00:05:33.745> to<00:05:33.826> think<00:05:34.053> about<00:05:34.313> paying<00:05:34.524> $100<00:05:34.881> grand<00:05:35.190> to<00:05:35.271> get<00:05:35.433> really<00:05:35.612> good<00:05:35.758> at<00:05:35.856> beer<00:05:36.099> pong.

00:05:36.749 --> 00:05:37.431
I'm<00:05:36.911> not<00:05:37.139> sure.

00:05:42.234 --> 00:05:49.337
In<00:05:42.332> your<00:05:43.061> book<00:05:43.369> and<00:05:43.467> writing<00:05:43.856> and<00:05:44.342> course,<00:05:44.667> you<00:05:44.764> talk<00:05:44.991> a<00:05:45.023> lot<00:05:45.186> about<00:05:46.061> the<00:05:46.223> power<00:05:46.629> of<00:05:46.726> a<00:05:46.856> clear<00:05:47.196> vision<00:05:48.477> and<00:05:48.640> goal<00:05:48.899> setting.

00:05:50.658 --> 00:05:53.827
How<00:05:50.755> do<00:05:50.835> you<00:05:51.060> recommend<00:05:52.347> leaders<00:05:52.749> do<00:05:52.910> this<00:05:53.168> with<00:05:53.328> their<00:05:53.489> teams?

00:05:54.374 --> 00:06:06.054
Well,<00:05:55.017> I<00:05:55.243> looked<00:05:55.484> at<00:05:55.580> it<00:05:55.725> only<00:05:55.967> from<00:05:56.144> my<00:05:56.304> own<00:05:56.610> experience<00:05:57.270> because<00:05:58.336> I<00:05:58.512> had<00:05:58.769> to<00:05:58.913> find<00:05:59.315> a<00:05:59.459> way<00:05:59.940> to<00:06:00.037> keep<00:06:00.358> people<00:06:00.839> long-term<00:06:01.866> loyal,<00:06:02.588> interested,<00:06:03.390> engaged,<00:06:04.289> effective,<00:06:05.091> and<00:06:05.252> profitable,<00:06:05.813> right?

00:06:06.920 --> 00:06:07.787
And<00:06:07.418> driving.

00:06:08.798 --> 00:06:12.729
So,<00:06:09.006> I<00:06:09.167> figured<00:06:09.488> out<00:06:09.648> a<00:06:09.664> long<00:06:09.905> time<00:06:10.162> ago,<00:06:10.948> companies<00:06:11.429> are<00:06:11.590> linear<00:06:11.975> creatures,<00:06:12.472> Clint.

00:06:13.339 --> 00:06:23.367
You<00:06:13.371> know,<00:06:13.579> you<00:06:13.676> have<00:06:13.900> this<00:06:14.157> input<00:06:14.542> from<00:06:14.719> the<00:06:14.799> one<00:06:14.975> side,<00:06:15.425> there's<00:06:15.762> people,<00:06:16.163> there's<00:06:16.548> product,<00:06:17.045> there's<00:06:17.350> raw<00:06:17.462> materials,<00:06:18.152> there's<00:06:18.746> something<00:06:19.276> that<00:06:19.452> gets<00:06:19.693> created<00:06:20.335> or<00:06:20.495> built<00:06:20.912> like<00:06:21.153> a<00:06:21.281> product<00:06:21.763> or<00:06:21.859> a<00:06:21.875> service<00:06:22.340> or<00:06:22.421> a<00:06:22.437> software<00:06:22.870> or<00:06:23.046> whatever.

00:06:23.865 --> 00:06:27.250
And<00:06:24.009> then,<00:06:24.137> there's<00:06:24.346> a<00:06:24.426> price<00:06:24.827> attached<00:06:25.309> to<00:06:25.469> that<00:06:25.806> and<00:06:25.951> hopefully,<00:06:26.272> that<00:06:26.512> thing<00:06:26.737> is<00:06:26.833> sold.

00:06:27.314 --> 00:06:31.852
And<00:06:27.395> then,<00:06:27.619> once<00:06:27.876> it's<00:06:28.101> sold,<00:06:28.839> it's<00:06:28.999> installed<00:06:29.545> in<00:06:29.866> paid<00:06:30.186> for,<00:06:30.523> and<00:06:31.003> then<00:06:31.163> there's<00:06:31.404> profit.

00:06:31.949 --> 00:06:32.926
Well,<00:06:32.445> guess<00:06:32.686> what?

00:06:33.311 --> 00:06:36.691
I'm<00:06:33.423> standing<00:06:33.967> as<00:06:34.112> the<00:06:34.208> leader<00:06:34.592> at<00:06:34.688> the<00:06:34.913> end<00:06:34.993> of<00:06:35.089> that<00:06:35.185> line<00:06:35.730> every<00:06:36.050> single<00:06:36.435> time.

00:06:37.412 --> 00:06:44.430
So<00:06:37.637> why<00:06:37.813> wouldn't<00:06:38.053> I<00:06:38.133> want<00:06:38.454> everybody<00:06:39.495> in<00:06:39.656> front<00:06:39.976> of<00:06:40.136> me,<00:06:40.377> before<00:06:40.841> me,<00:06:41.082> involved<00:06:41.434> in<00:06:41.578> that<00:06:41.803> process<00:06:42.379> to<00:06:42.620> win<00:06:43.004> as<00:06:43.181> much<00:06:43.421> as<00:06:43.501> they<00:06:43.645> can<00:06:43.902> for<00:06:44.014> themselves?

00:06:45.007 --> 00:06:54.525
So<00:06:45.183> you'll<00:06:45.408> hear<00:06:45.520> me<00:06:45.664> say<00:06:45.968> often,<00:06:46.209> and<00:06:46.305> I've<00:06:46.465> said<00:06:46.625> this<00:06:46.754> 100<00:06:47.186> times,<00:06:48.051> I<00:06:48.148> can't<00:06:48.388> get<00:06:48.548> what<00:06:48.692> I<00:06:48.853> want,<00:06:49.029> nor<00:06:49.189> can<00:06:49.349> my<00:06:49.510> company<00:06:49.830> get<00:06:49.990> what<00:06:50.086> it<00:06:50.150> wants<00:06:50.407> or<00:06:50.551> needs,<00:06:50.791> until<00:06:51.336> all<00:06:51.432> of<00:06:51.657> you<00:06:52.538> get<00:06:52.714> what<00:06:52.954> you<00:06:53.099> want<00:06:53.339> for<00:06:53.499> yourselves<00:06:54.140> first.

00:06:55.021 --> 00:07:03.271
Because<00:06:55.502> I'm<00:06:55.614> a<00:06:55.678> firm<00:06:55.999> believer<00:06:56.543> in<00:06:56.640> the<00:06:56.720> fact<00:06:57.024> that<00:06:57.184> if<00:06:57.281> you<00:06:57.425> have<00:06:58.066> 200<00:06:58.564> people<00:06:58.949> chasing<00:06:59.367> something<00:06:59.849> very<00:07:00.235> personal<00:07:00.668> for<00:07:00.893> themselves<00:07:02.082> within<00:07:02.403> your<00:07:02.596> four<00:07:02.966> walls.

00:07:04.331 --> 00:07:11.384
Those<00:07:04.733> goals,<00:07:05.616> those<00:07:05.874> timed<00:07:06.355> pathways,<00:07:07.946> they<00:07:08.107> will<00:07:08.428> align<00:07:09.006> with<00:07:09.328> the<00:07:09.472> corporate<00:07:09.890> goals<00:07:10.436> almost<00:07:10.838> every<00:07:11.079> time.

00:07:11.898 --> 00:07:16.734
And<00:07:11.978> if<00:07:12.123> those<00:07:12.316> are<00:07:12.444> on<00:07:12.605> the<00:07:12.637> same<00:07:13.022> parallel<00:07:13.424> track,<00:07:14.372> that's<00:07:14.693> where<00:07:14.870> the<00:07:15.031> beautiful<00:07:15.416> thing<00:07:15.593> called<00:07:15.898> momentum<00:07:16.300> happens.

00:07:17.344 --> 00:07:21.296
And<00:07:17.842> then<00:07:18.067> get<00:07:18.228> out<00:07:18.340> of<00:07:18.388> the<00:07:18.469> way<00:07:18.645> because<00:07:18.951> your<00:07:19.047> company's<00:07:19.352> going<00:07:19.465> to<00:07:19.529> go<00:07:19.609> a<00:07:19.625> lot<00:07:19.930> further<00:07:20.316> than<00:07:20.396> you<00:07:20.493> can<00:07:20.653> take<00:07:20.830> it<00:07:20.959> yourself.

00:07:21.376 --> 00:07:21.939
That's<00:07:21.601> for<00:07:21.698> sure.

00:07:22.903 --> 00:07:28.090
Go<00:07:23.063> deeper<00:07:23.368> on<00:07:23.449> this<00:07:23.625> idea<00:07:23.850> of<00:07:23.947> like<00:07:25.312> personal<00:07:25.714> visions<00:07:26.661> and<00:07:26.757> how<00:07:27.078> one<00:07:27.319> might<00:07:27.624> create<00:07:27.945> that?

00:07:28.668 --> 00:07:32.361
So,<00:07:29.005> I<00:07:29.150> think<00:07:29.407> people<00:07:30.836> react<00:07:31.333> way<00:07:31.494> too<00:07:31.719> much<00:07:31.976> in<00:07:32.120> life.

00:07:32.441 --> 00:07:46.025
You<00:07:32.506> know,<00:07:32.698> they<00:07:32.795> think,<00:07:33.581> "Well,<00:07:33.967> if<00:07:34.288> I<00:07:34.448> go<00:07:34.561> to<00:07:34.689> high<00:07:34.866> school<00:07:35.251> and<00:07:35.428> if<00:07:35.653> I<00:07:35.813> get<00:07:35.990> good<00:07:36.231> grades<00:07:36.777> and<00:07:36.857> then<00:07:37.419> if<00:07:37.660> I<00:07:37.820> get<00:07:38.013> a<00:07:38.061> scholarship<00:07:38.816> and<00:07:38.944> if<00:07:39.105> I<00:07:39.201> go<00:07:39.297> to<00:07:39.426> college<00:07:39.924> and<00:07:40.068> get<00:07:40.229> a<00:07:40.261> degree<00:07:40.727> and<00:07:40.807> then<00:07:41.128> if<00:07:41.369> I<00:07:41.529> land<00:07:41.850> this<00:07:42.075> job,<00:07:43.039> well,<00:07:43.135> then<00:07:43.376> I<00:07:43.520> can<00:07:43.617> start<00:07:43.922> figuring<00:07:44.403> how<00:07:44.564> I<00:07:44.725> want<00:07:44.869> to<00:07:44.965> live."<00:07:45.688> Okay?

00:07:46.571 --> 00:07:48.161
I<00:07:46.667> think<00:07:46.828> that's<00:07:47.133> completely<00:07:47.711> backwards.

00:07:48.755 --> 00:07:54.888
I<00:07:48.915> think<00:07:49.156> we<00:07:49.317> all<00:07:49.542> kind<00:07:49.863> of<00:07:49.895> know<00:07:50.987> what<00:07:51.228> we<00:07:51.404> want<00:07:51.645> our<00:07:51.870> life<00:07:52.111> to<00:07:52.271> look<00:07:52.512> like<00:07:53.315> as<00:07:53.556> we<00:07:53.652> start<00:07:53.957> to<00:07:54.037> go<00:07:54.214> out<00:07:54.375> into<00:07:54.551> the<00:07:54.680> world.

00:07:55.322 --> 00:08:01.166
I<00:07:55.354> think<00:07:55.659> we<00:07:55.739> know<00:07:55.884> what<00:07:56.060> kind<00:07:56.237> of<00:07:56.285> house<00:07:56.542> we'd<00:07:56.687> like<00:07:56.863> to<00:07:57.008> have,<00:07:57.168> what<00:07:57.265> kind<00:07:57.441> of<00:07:57.730> cars<00:07:58.051> we'd<00:07:58.148> like<00:07:58.308> to<00:07:58.453> drive,<00:07:58.774> what<00:07:58.854> kind<00:07:59.095> of<00:07:59.497> sports<00:07:59.978> we'd<00:08:00.075> like<00:08:00.235> to<00:08:00.396> do<00:08:00.556> or<00:08:00.717> hobbies.

00:08:01.680 --> 00:08:02.900
What<00:08:01.760> kind<00:08:02.001> of<00:08:02.226> pet<00:08:02.467> do<00:08:02.563> we<00:08:02.708> want?

00:08:02.949 --> 00:08:03.703
A<00:08:02.965> dog<00:08:03.350> or<00:08:03.430> a<00:08:03.527> cat?

00:08:03.768 --> 00:08:05.373
What<00:08:03.992> color<00:08:04.233> would<00:08:04.394> you—<00:08:04.635> what<00:08:04.795> would<00:08:04.891> you<00:08:04.956> name<00:08:05.277> it?

00:08:05.999 --> 00:08:08.199
I<00:08:06.096> think<00:08:06.337> we<00:08:06.481> all<00:08:06.577> know<00:08:06.802> what<00:08:06.899> our<00:08:07.043> vacations<00:08:07.685> would<00:08:07.846> look<00:08:08.006> like.

00:08:08.263 --> 00:08:13.225
I<00:08:08.344> think<00:08:08.584> we<00:08:08.729> would<00:08:08.890> know<00:08:09.692> what<00:08:09.805> our<00:08:09.949> charity<00:08:10.415> would<00:08:10.591> be<00:08:10.848> if<00:08:11.073> we<00:08:11.234> had<00:08:11.410> an<00:08:11.539> extra<00:08:11.764> $100<00:08:12.053> in<00:08:12.181> our<00:08:12.502> hand<00:08:12.679> to<00:08:12.759> give<00:08:12.920> away.

00:08:13.803 --> 00:08:14.622
Our<00:08:13.883> spirituality.

00:08:14.686 --> 00:08:18.973
I<00:08:14.782> think<00:08:15.087> we<00:08:15.168> know<00:08:15.408> all<00:08:15.569> those<00:08:15.810> things,<00:08:16.613> and<00:08:16.709> yet<00:08:16.918> we<00:08:17.014> don't<00:08:17.239> trust<00:08:17.576> ourselves<00:08:18.122> to<00:08:18.282> put<00:08:18.459> that<00:08:18.684> out<00:08:18.860> there.

00:08:19.422 --> 00:08:28.700
We<00:08:20.143> wait<00:08:20.399> for<00:08:20.560> society<00:08:21.409> to<00:08:21.585> tell<00:08:21.826> us<00:08:22.050> what<00:08:22.210> to<00:08:22.370> do<00:08:23.092> or<00:08:23.252> to<00:08:23.364> react<00:08:24.293> to<00:08:24.630> some<00:08:24.950> stimulus<00:08:25.591> that,<00:08:26.377> or<00:08:26.569> some<00:08:26.938> expectation<00:08:27.547> that<00:08:27.771> somebody<00:08:28.139> has<00:08:28.396> of<00:08:28.556> us.

00:08:29.277 --> 00:08:30.768
And<00:08:29.357> I<00:08:29.437> think<00:08:29.678> that's<00:08:29.918> where<00:08:30.078> the<00:08:30.159> difference<00:08:30.543> lies.

00:08:31.360 --> 00:08:34.742
You<00:08:31.505> can't<00:08:31.761> work<00:08:32.001> in<00:08:32.066> our<00:08:32.226> company<00:08:32.642> unless<00:08:32.883> you're<00:08:33.027> chasing<00:08:33.380> something<00:08:33.764> personal<00:08:34.229> for<00:08:34.325> yourself.

00:08:35.367 --> 00:08:39.341
And<00:08:35.447> so,<00:08:36.953> I<00:08:37.049> just<00:08:37.290> think<00:08:38.011> we<00:08:38.171> all<00:08:38.395> have<00:08:38.732> the<00:08:38.908> ability.

00:08:40.735 --> 00:08:43.155
There's<00:08:41.055> the<00:08:41.200> whole<00:08:41.440> half<00:08:41.696> of<00:08:41.777> our<00:08:41.937> brain<00:08:42.241> that<00:08:42.402> we<00:08:42.498> don't<00:08:42.802> use.

00:08:43.459 --> 00:08:44.629
That's<00:08:43.764> the<00:08:43.860> creative.

00:08:44.950 --> 00:08:51.326
Proactive,<00:08:46.103> predictive,<00:08:47.224> anticipatory<00:08:48.170> side<00:08:49.147> that<00:08:49.371> we<00:08:49.531> just<00:08:49.708> don't<00:08:50.012> use,<00:08:50.429> the<00:08:50.509> visual<00:08:50.973> side.

00:08:51.790 --> 00:08:54.386
And<00:08:51.854> it's<00:08:52.031> because<00:08:52.351> we're<00:08:52.495> just<00:08:52.752> busy<00:08:52.992> reacting<00:08:53.537> all<00:08:53.713> day<00:08:53.873> to<00:08:54.033> everything.

00:08:54.834 --> 00:09:13.258
So<00:08:55.475> once<00:08:55.715> you<00:08:55.876> realize<00:08:56.436> that<00:08:56.596> you<00:08:56.741> are<00:08:56.917> in<00:08:57.141> control<00:08:57.878> of<00:08:58.022> what<00:08:58.263> your<00:08:58.583> best<00:08:59.064> lived<00:08:59.544> life<00:08:59.961> and<00:09:00.041> the<00:09:00.201> design<00:09:00.618> of<00:09:00.682> that<00:09:00.922> could<00:09:01.162> be,<00:09:02.027> it's<00:09:02.188> kind<00:09:02.460> of<00:09:02.524> freeing<00:09:03.005> because<00:09:03.341> now<00:09:03.549> you're<00:09:03.678> saying,<00:09:04.511> so<00:09:04.991> I<00:09:05.023> don't<00:09:05.312> have<00:09:05.408> to<00:09:05.552> listen<00:09:05.953> to<00:09:06.529> my<00:09:06.994> uncle<00:09:07.330> or<00:09:07.410> my<00:09:07.651> dad<00:09:08.051> or<00:09:08.356> my<00:09:09.333> teacher,<00:09:09.894> or<00:09:10.278> I<00:09:10.310> don't<00:09:10.470> have<00:09:10.679> to<00:09:10.759> listen<00:09:11.079> to<00:09:11.175> society<00:09:11.960> with<00:09:12.361> what<00:09:12.537> they<00:09:12.697> want<00:09:12.921> for<00:09:13.018> me.

00:09:13.803 --> 00:09:15.709
I<00:09:13.899> can<00:09:14.123> trust<00:09:14.443> myself<00:09:14.844> to<00:09:14.956> know<00:09:15.180> what<00:09:15.341> that<00:09:15.581> is.

00:09:16.446 --> 00:09:22.602
So,<00:09:16.847> yeah,<00:09:17.104> I<00:09:17.184> teach<00:09:17.488> people<00:09:17.745> vision<00:09:18.370> all<00:09:18.626> day,<00:09:19.091> every<00:09:19.348> day,<00:09:19.829> because<00:09:20.454> without<00:09:20.855> it,<00:09:21.512> there<00:09:21.672> is<00:09:21.817> no<00:09:21.993> destination.

00:09:23.035 --> 00:09:24.686
Without<00:09:23.275> a<00:09:23.355> destination,<00:09:24.061> there's<00:09:24.221> no<00:09:24.381> path.

00:09:24.782 --> 00:09:26.369
Without<00:09:25.023> a<00:09:25.103> path,<00:09:25.359> there's<00:09:25.504> no<00:09:25.600> anticipation.

00:09:26.882 --> 00:09:30.906
There's<00:09:27.042> just<00:09:27.203> kind<00:09:27.363> of<00:09:27.443> a<00:09:27.588> boredom,<00:09:28.309> you<00:09:28.389> know,<00:09:28.565> boredom,<00:09:29.431> every<00:09:29.607> Friday<00:09:29.928> chase<00:09:30.168> the<00:09:30.249> paycheck<00:09:30.713> life.

00:09:30.970 --> 00:09:32.092
And<00:09:31.034> that's<00:09:31.226> not<00:09:31.387> the<00:09:31.451> way<00:09:31.675> we<00:09:31.755> do<00:09:31.852> it<00:09:31.932> here.

00:09:33.294 --> 00:09:39.723
I<00:09:33.375> think<00:09:34.080> what<00:09:34.320> you<00:09:34.417> just<00:09:34.641> described<00:09:35.202> is<00:09:35.298> probably<00:09:35.939> why<00:09:36.164> your<00:09:36.340> book<00:09:36.581> struck<00:09:37.222> such<00:09:37.526> a<00:09:37.559> nerve<00:09:38.088> and<00:09:38.184> ended<00:09:38.424> up<00:09:38.584> on<00:09:38.665> the<00:09:38.745> bestseller<00:09:39.386> list.

00:09:40.188 --> 00:09:44.933
What<00:09:40.332> has<00:09:40.492> the<00:09:40.588> response<00:09:41.069> been<00:09:41.310> to<00:09:41.951> your<00:09:42.191> book<00:09:42.496> from<00:09:42.672> those<00:09:42.977> who've<00:09:43.217> read<00:09:43.458> it<00:09:43.634> and<00:09:43.778> the<00:09:43.875> various<00:09:44.195> people<00:09:44.452> that<00:09:44.580> you<00:09:44.740> coach?

00:09:44.997 --> 00:09:47.209
Give<00:09:45.157> us<00:09:45.301> a<00:09:45.333> sense<00:09:45.558> for<00:09:45.702> kind<00:09:45.846> of<00:09:45.878> the<00:09:46.023> results<00:09:46.504> that<00:09:46.600> have<00:09:46.744> come<00:09:46.904> from<00:09:47.081> this.

00:09:47.562 --> 00:09:50.848
Well,<00:09:48.053> there<00:09:48.134> was<00:09:48.380> 3<00:09:48.690> readers<00:09:49.181> and<00:09:49.279> I<00:09:49.360> didn't<00:09:49.606> expect<00:09:50.407> one<00:09:50.587> of<00:09:50.668> them.

00:09:52.530 --> 00:09:58.872
So,<00:09:53.431> people<00:09:53.753> buying<00:09:54.011> this<00:09:54.236> book<00:09:54.429> for<00:09:54.719> their<00:09:55.282> son<00:09:55.604> or<00:09:55.701> daughter<00:09:56.103> who's<00:09:56.457> 17<00:09:56.908> to<00:09:56.989> 30<00:09:57.311> years<00:09:57.616> old,<00:09:57.874> that<00:09:58.051> was<00:09:58.582> easy.

00:09:58.920 --> 00:10:00.530
I<00:09:59.001> mean,<00:09:59.162> I<00:09:59.242> figured<00:09:59.564> that<00:09:59.725> would<00:09:59.822> happen,<00:10:00.208> right?

00:10:02.619 --> 00:10:11.666
Parents<00:10:03.047> or<00:10:03.129> kids,<00:10:03.557> I<00:10:03.705> mean,<00:10:03.870> they're<00:10:04.116> taking<00:10:04.445> the<00:10:04.528> course<00:10:04.857> together,<00:10:07.370> showing<00:10:07.708> their<00:10:07.852> child<00:10:08.271> to—<00:10:08.593> giving<00:10:09.397> him<00:10:09.574> or<00:10:09.639> her<00:10:09.799> the<00:10:09.880> ability<00:10:10.153> to<00:10:10.282> trust<00:10:10.523> themselves<00:10:11.006> and<00:10:11.087> their<00:10:11.167> decisions.

00:10:11.730 --> 00:10:13.629
I<00:10:11.811> think<00:10:11.972> that<00:10:12.149> was<00:10:12.294> kind<00:10:12.519> of<00:10:12.599> what<00:10:12.696> I<00:10:13.018> was<00:10:13.404> after.

00:10:14.450 --> 00:10:20.229
What<00:10:14.548> I<00:10:14.630> didn't<00:10:14.875> expect<00:10:15.350> was<00:10:15.531> people<00:10:15.842> calling<00:10:16.169> me<00:10:16.268> up<00:10:16.431> and<00:10:16.513> saying,<00:10:17.500> Well,<00:10:18.174> I<00:10:18.254> was<00:10:18.431> a<00:10:18.559> plumber<00:10:18.896> in<00:10:19.041> high<00:10:19.153> school<00:10:19.539> and<00:10:19.683> in<00:10:19.779> college.

00:10:20.486 --> 00:10:23.649
I<00:10:21.128> went<00:10:21.449> to<00:10:21.867> college<00:10:22.332> 'cause<00:10:22.509> my<00:10:22.653> parents<00:10:22.846> told<00:10:23.055> me<00:10:23.135> I<00:10:23.231> had<00:10:23.472> to.

00:10:24.115 --> 00:10:29.702
I've<00:10:24.195> been<00:10:24.612> 15<00:10:25.062> years<00:10:25.319> in<00:10:25.463> this<00:10:25.624> cubicle<00:10:26.041> on<00:10:26.218> the<00:10:26.298> 10th<00:10:26.587> floor<00:10:26.844> of<00:10:26.924> this<00:10:27.165> building<00:10:27.486> selling<00:10:27.743> medical<00:10:28.112> supplies<00:10:28.674> and<00:10:28.755> I'm<00:10:29.092> miserable.

00:10:30.521 --> 00:10:32.512
So<00:10:30.681> I<00:10:30.858> quit<00:10:31.099> that<00:10:31.259> job<00:10:31.564> and<00:10:31.645> went<00:10:31.805> back<00:10:31.982> to<00:10:32.062> being<00:10:32.223> a<00:10:32.303> plumber.

00:10:32.608 --> 00:10:34.888
I've<00:10:32.769> never<00:10:33.009> been<00:10:33.170> happier<00:10:33.812> and<00:10:33.893> I<00:10:34.133> owe<00:10:34.230> that<00:10:34.471> to<00:10:34.631> you.

00:10:35.354 --> 00:10:37.361
So<00:10:36.558> they<00:10:36.654> don't<00:10:36.943> owe<00:10:36.959> it<00:10:37.120> to<00:10:37.216> me.

00:10:37.682 --> 00:10:38.083
They<00:10:37.842> don't.

00:10:38.308 --> 00:10:38.741
All<00:10:38.388> I<00:10:38.485> did<00:10:38.645> was—.

00:10:38.790 --> 00:10:42.193
They're<00:10:38.886> probably<00:10:39.191> making<00:10:39.528> more<00:10:40.636> money<00:10:41.455> being<00:10:41.680> a<00:10:41.760> plumber<00:10:42.081> too.

00:10:42.258 --> 00:10:42.996
Well,<00:10:42.563> they<00:10:42.723> are.

00:10:43.221 --> 00:10:43.831
And<00:10:43.301> you<00:10:43.382> know<00:10:43.526> what<00:10:43.622> else?

00:10:43.927 --> 00:10:45.308
They<00:10:44.088> get<00:10:44.265> that<00:10:44.425> control<00:10:44.907> thing<00:10:45.148> too.

00:10:45.389 --> 00:10:48.534
They<00:10:45.549> control<00:10:45.950> their,<00:10:46.240> their<00:10:46.496> input,<00:10:46.913> their<00:10:47.138> output,<00:10:47.555> the<00:10:47.635> quality<00:10:47.972> of<00:10:48.036> the<00:10:48.181> output.

00:10:48.598 --> 00:10:51.100
They<00:10:48.678> control<00:10:49.015> their<00:10:49.159> day,<00:10:49.384> their<00:10:49.480> time,<00:10:49.721> their<00:10:49.801> schedule,<00:10:50.282> and<00:10:50.346> their<00:10:50.443> financial<00:10:50.924> gain.

00:10:51.164 --> 00:10:53.138
So,<00:10:52.031> that's<00:10:52.287> a<00:10:52.368> really<00:10:52.689> big<00:10:52.865> thing.

00:10:54.453 --> 00:10:59.154
The<00:10:54.598> third<00:10:54.934> reader,<00:10:55.191> which<00:10:55.480> I<00:10:55.640> didn't<00:10:55.881> expect,<00:10:56.458> was<00:10:56.924> this<00:10:57.100> thing<00:10:57.325> kind<00:10:57.517> of<00:10:57.581> got<00:10:57.902> book<00:10:58.047> clubbed<00:10:58.448> by<00:10:58.688> companies.

00:10:59.827 --> 00:11:23.176
They<00:10:59.988> would<00:11:00.228> buy<00:11:01.014> copies<00:11:01.367> of<00:11:01.432> the<00:11:01.576> book<00:11:01.768> for<00:11:01.929> their<00:11:02.490> staff<00:11:03.116> and<00:11:03.180> then<00:11:03.341> they<00:11:03.501> would<00:11:03.742> read<00:11:03.998> a<00:11:04.079> chapter<00:11:04.560> a<00:11:04.640> week<00:11:04.961> and<00:11:05.041> sit<00:11:05.282> down<00:11:05.522> and<00:11:05.603> talk<00:11:05.923> about<00:11:06.228> it<00:11:06.950> because<00:11:07.688> the<00:11:07.913> ultimate<00:11:08.410> goal<00:11:09.453> in<00:11:09.597> my<00:11:09.709> mind,<00:11:10.110> if<00:11:10.255> you're<00:11:10.351> an<00:11:10.479> entrepreneur,<00:11:11.618> is<00:11:11.779> to<00:11:11.923> have<00:11:12.116> as<00:11:12.260> many<00:11:12.886> entrepreneurial<00:11:13.863> people<00:11:14.248> around<00:11:14.649> you<00:11:15.691> who<00:11:15.851> can<00:11:16.813> create<00:11:17.630> divisions<00:11:18.335> and<00:11:18.512> run<00:11:18.752> them<00:11:18.977> like<00:11:19.233> themselves,<00:11:19.954> like<00:11:20.195> they're<00:11:20.355> their<00:11:20.580> own<00:11:20.820> companies,<00:11:21.878> and<00:11:21.942> then<00:11:22.118> help<00:11:22.343> you<00:11:22.439> drive<00:11:22.759> the<00:11:22.840> business.

00:11:23.240 --> 00:11:27.280
So<00:11:23.721> that<00:11:23.881> was<00:11:24.026> the<00:11:24.122> reader<00:11:24.426> that<00:11:24.587> I,<00:11:24.827> I<00:11:24.987> didn't<00:11:25.228> expect,<00:11:25.645> but<00:11:25.741> it's,<00:11:25.965> it's<00:11:26.125> been<00:11:26.350> a<00:11:26.366> welcome<00:11:26.686> one,<00:11:26.847> that's<00:11:27.071> for<00:11:27.151> sure.

00:11:27.328 --> 00:11:30.181
How<00:11:27.408> do<00:11:27.472> you<00:11:27.648> instill<00:11:28.049> this<00:11:28.273> idea<00:11:28.530> of<00:11:28.754> like<00:11:29.171> lifelong<00:11:29.876> learning?

00:11:30.373 --> 00:11:40.359
Because<00:11:30.694> again,<00:11:30.854> we<00:11:30.950> just<00:11:31.159> said<00:11:31.335> like,<00:11:31.559> hey,<00:11:31.880> college<00:11:32.361> is<00:11:32.473> not<00:11:33.739> a<00:11:34.845> necessary<00:11:35.502> path<00:11:35.919> and<00:11:36.624> probably<00:11:37.041> never<00:11:37.330> has<00:11:37.586> been<00:11:38.307> for<00:11:38.468> a<00:11:38.628> lot<00:11:38.804> of<00:11:38.933> jobs,<00:11:39.574> majority<00:11:39.990> of<00:11:40.087> jobs.

00:11:41.579 --> 00:11:43.169
That<00:11:41.820> some,<00:11:42.141> and<00:11:42.237> majority<00:11:42.623> of<00:11:42.719> people,<00:11:43.040> right?

00:11:43.265 --> 00:11:47.472
It's<00:11:43.442> the,<00:11:43.683> but<00:11:43.924> we've<00:11:44.084> kind<00:11:44.245> of<00:11:44.389> instilled<00:11:44.887> that,<00:11:45.369> but<00:11:45.529> you're<00:11:45.674> not<00:11:45.786> saying<00:11:46.091> like,<00:11:46.316> don't<00:11:46.493> learn,<00:11:47.360> right?

00:11:47.537 --> 00:11:52.065
You're<00:11:47.681> saying<00:11:47.938> like<00:11:48.179> instill<00:11:48.564> this<00:11:48.821> idea<00:11:49.126> of<00:11:49.287> like<00:11:49.528> lifelong<00:11:50.267> learning<00:11:51.294> and<00:11:51.455> hard<00:11:51.792> work.

00:11:52.194 --> 00:11:55.807
How<00:11:52.434> do<00:11:52.980> you<00:11:53.398> coach<00:11:53.799> companies<00:11:54.442> and<00:11:54.522> leaders<00:11:54.988> to<00:11:55.469> do<00:11:55.630> that?

00:11:56.192 --> 00:12:03.065
Well,<00:11:57.172> let's<00:11:57.429> assume<00:11:57.814> that<00:11:57.975> I<00:11:58.215> dumped<00:11:58.488> a<00:11:58.505> 1,000-piece<00:11:59.484> puzzle<00:11:59.886> on<00:12:00.046> your<00:12:00.207> table<00:12:00.544> right<00:12:00.769> now<00:12:01.732> and<00:12:01.973> I<00:12:02.069> asked<00:12:02.230> you<00:12:02.326> to<00:12:02.471> put<00:12:02.631> it<00:12:02.728> together.

00:12:03.900 --> 00:12:07.931
And<00:12:05.185> the<00:12:05.281> first<00:12:05.602> thing<00:12:05.827> you<00:12:05.859> would<00:12:06.004> say<00:12:06.309> is,<00:12:06.469> okay,<00:12:06.710> well,<00:12:06.807> where's<00:12:07.112> the<00:12:07.208> box<00:12:07.610> cover?

00:12:08.493 --> 00:12:11.623
And<00:12:08.637> I<00:12:08.733> would<00:12:08.814> say,<00:12:08.990> nope,<00:12:09.311> I'm<00:12:09.520> sorry,<00:12:09.857> I'm<00:12:10.178> taking<00:12:10.564> the<00:12:10.644> box<00:12:10.981> cover<00:12:11.302> away.

00:12:11.928 --> 00:12:18.590
You<00:12:12.008> would<00:12:12.169> have<00:12:12.410> an<00:12:12.506> awfully<00:12:12.827> difficult<00:12:13.309> time<00:12:14.111> building<00:12:14.416> that<00:12:14.593> puzzle<00:12:15.058> other<00:12:15.219> than<00:12:15.396> probably<00:12:15.797> the<00:12:15.957> framework<00:12:16.680> where<00:12:16.824> all<00:12:16.937> the<00:12:17.081> one<00:12:17.258> edges<00:12:17.643> are<00:12:17.707> square,<00:12:18.125> right?

00:12:19.473 --> 00:12:20.966
And<00:12:19.955> there's<00:12:20.147> a<00:12:20.211> reason<00:12:20.597> for<00:12:20.725> that.

00:12:21.399 --> 00:12:27.564
I've<00:12:21.560> been<00:12:21.720> told<00:12:22.058> that<00:12:22.218> to<00:12:22.363> build<00:12:22.507> a<00:12:22.539> 1,000-piece<00:12:23.342> puzzle,<00:12:23.807> you<00:12:24.048> look<00:12:24.369> at<00:12:24.546> that<00:12:24.947> box<00:12:25.348> cover<00:12:25.991> 100,000<00:12:27.114> times.

00:12:28.720 --> 00:12:35.109
If<00:12:28.816> you<00:12:28.944> think<00:12:29.137> about<00:12:29.442> that,<00:12:30.485> okay,<00:12:32.010> that<00:12:32.315> is<00:12:32.556> really<00:12:32.813> something<00:12:33.375> when<00:12:33.439> you<00:12:33.519> talk<00:12:33.776> about<00:12:34.081> building<00:12:34.402> a<00:12:34.418> simple<00:12:34.820> puzzle.

00:12:35.687 --> 00:12:40.598
So,<00:12:36.569> the<00:12:36.730> lifelong<00:12:37.227> learning<00:12:37.564> for<00:12:37.709> me<00:12:38.110> is<00:12:38.977> what<00:12:39.153> is<00:12:39.298> your<00:12:39.474> life<00:12:39.795> going<00:12:39.940> to<00:12:39.972> look<00:12:40.261> like?

00:12:41.063 --> 00:12:43.358
What<00:12:41.320> pieces<00:12:41.721> and<00:12:41.882> parts<00:12:42.203> of<00:12:42.283> the<00:12:42.427> puzzle<00:12:42.925> are<00:12:43.085> there?

00:12:43.888 --> 00:12:46.070
What<00:12:43.984> does<00:12:44.128> the<00:12:44.289> picture<00:12:44.690> look<00:12:44.915> like<00:12:45.091> that<00:12:45.252> you're<00:12:45.396> starting<00:12:45.958> with?

00:12:46.600 --> 00:12:48.558
And<00:12:46.696> how<00:12:46.857> do<00:12:47.017> we<00:12:47.162> go<00:12:47.322> after<00:12:47.916> that<00:12:48.125> and<00:12:48.221> get<00:12:48.478> it?

00:12:48.686 --> 00:12:56.727
Because<00:12:50.307> everybody<00:12:50.773> has<00:12:51.591> their<00:12:51.816> own<00:12:52.217> vision<00:12:52.554> or<00:12:52.715> version<00:12:53.180> of<00:12:53.260> what<00:12:53.437> their<00:12:53.597> comfort,<00:12:53.999> peace,<00:12:54.239> and<00:12:54.320> freedom<00:12:54.657> is<00:12:54.946> or<00:12:55.042> what<00:12:55.218> their<00:12:55.604> best-lived<00:12:56.069> life<00:12:56.326> can<00:12:56.486> be.

00:12:57.208 --> 00:13:02.457
And<00:12:57.305> some<00:12:57.610> people<00:12:57.850> are<00:12:57.995> going<00:12:58.091> to<00:12:58.171> chase<00:12:58.958> mega<00:12:59.279> yachts<00:12:59.760> and<00:12:59.873> mansions<00:13:00.563> and<00:13:00.659> 15<00:13:01.205> cars<00:13:01.702> and<00:13:01.783> that<00:13:02.007> kind<00:13:02.168> of<00:13:02.200> thing.

00:13:02.970 --> 00:13:04.415
Other<00:13:03.147> people<00:13:03.403> are<00:13:03.468> going<00:13:03.564> to<00:13:03.628> say,<00:13:03.933> you<00:13:03.965> know<00:13:04.174> what?

00:13:04.816 --> 00:13:06.807
"Put<00:13:04.976> me<00:13:05.073> in<00:13:05.153> a<00:13:05.169> nice<00:13:05.538> house<00:13:05.940> and<00:13:06.181> out<00:13:06.261> in<00:13:06.341> the<00:13:06.438> country.

00:13:07.578 --> 00:13:09.135
Get<00:13:07.722> me<00:13:08.188> a<00:13:08.268> couple<00:13:08.605> of<00:13:08.669> cars.

00:13:09.488 --> 00:13:11.463
Get<00:13:09.649> me<00:13:09.809> a<00:13:10.371> couple<00:13:10.628> acres<00:13:11.014> of<00:13:11.094> land.

00:13:11.881 --> 00:13:20.696
Let<00:13:11.977> me<00:13:12.138> have<00:13:12.443> my<00:13:12.700> dogs<00:13:13.165> and<00:13:13.486> let<00:13:13.583> me<00:13:13.984> take<00:13:14.225> my<00:13:14.386> four-wheeler<00:13:14.867> and<00:13:14.948> run<00:13:15.092> it<00:13:15.124> around<00:13:15.670> and<00:13:15.815> raise<00:13:16.072> a<00:13:16.136> family<00:13:17.195> and<00:13:17.340> have<00:13:17.517> a<00:13:17.533> nice,<00:13:17.918> comfortable,<00:13:18.384> quiet<00:13:18.705> life."<00:13:19.427> Everybody<00:13:19.845> has<00:13:20.166> their<00:13:20.407> thing.

00:13:21.274 --> 00:13:26.846
You<00:13:21.370> just<00:13:21.595> have<00:13:21.772> to<00:13:21.916> give<00:13:22.077> them<00:13:22.253> the<00:13:22.318> space<00:13:22.735> and<00:13:22.815> time<00:13:23.152> and<00:13:23.217> the<00:13:23.297> trust<00:13:23.698> to<00:13:23.859> draw<00:13:24.276> that<00:13:24.437> thing<00:13:24.806> out<00:13:25.609> and<00:13:25.673> then<00:13:25.850> let<00:13:26.043> them<00:13:26.251> go<00:13:26.492> after<00:13:26.813> it.

00:13:26.910 --> 00:13:36.474
So,<00:13:27.697> for<00:13:27.857> me,<00:13:28.596> the<00:13:28.740> lifelong<00:13:29.302> learning<00:13:29.704> is,<00:13:31.228> How<00:13:31.485> sophisticated<00:13:32.431> is<00:13:32.528> the<00:13:32.672> puzzle<00:13:32.945> box<00:13:34.758> based<00:13:35.079> on<00:13:35.159> the<00:13:35.255> life<00:13:35.480> you<00:13:35.640> want<00:13:35.817> for<00:13:35.961> yourself?

00:13:36.779 --> 00:13:40.164
And<00:13:36.859> then,<00:13:37.020> how<00:13:37.244> do<00:13:37.277> you<00:13:37.405> go<00:13:37.501> about<00:13:37.838> getting<00:13:38.143> those<00:13:38.384> small<00:13:38.688> pieces<00:13:39.025> and<00:13:39.170> parts<00:13:39.507> one<00:13:39.731> at<00:13:39.811> a<00:13:39.827> time?

00:13:40.213 --> 00:13:43.052
Because<00:13:41.111> that's<00:13:41.432> truly<00:13:41.993> the<00:13:42.138> progression<00:13:42.715> of<00:13:42.796> life.

00:13:43.116 --> 00:13:48.571
And<00:13:43.261> that's,<00:13:44.464> I<00:13:44.560> think,<00:13:44.865> where<00:13:44.961> the<00:13:45.042> spice<00:13:45.427> comes<00:13:45.683> when<00:13:45.828> you<00:13:45.924> can<00:13:46.004> anticipate<00:13:46.967> many<00:13:47.191> things<00:13:47.416> happening<00:13:47.753> for<00:13:47.865> you<00:13:47.994> at<00:13:48.042> the<00:13:48.090> same<00:13:48.331> time.

00:13:48.956 --> 00:13:55.598
So,<00:13:49.133> how<00:13:49.454> do<00:13:50.015> you<00:13:50.400> coach<00:13:50.881> folks<00:13:51.299> to<00:13:51.940> focus<00:13:52.325> on<00:13:52.422> what<00:13:52.566> truly<00:13:52.919> matters<00:13:53.705> and<00:13:53.866> not<00:13:54.106> compare<00:13:54.507> themselves<00:13:54.989> to<00:13:55.213> others?

00:13:56.318 --> 00:14:04.800
Attach<00:13:56.738> their<00:13:56.965> identity<00:13:57.872> to<00:13:59.798> things<00:14:00.689> that<00:14:00.948> in<00:14:01.028> particular<00:14:01.433> have<00:14:01.660> no<00:14:01.822> particular<00:14:02.324> value<00:14:02.647> to<00:14:02.744> them<00:14:02.906> other<00:14:03.117> than<00:14:03.214> they've<00:14:03.376> been<00:14:03.457> told<00:14:03.845> that<00:14:03.942> should<00:14:04.153> hold<00:14:04.347> value<00:14:04.671> to<00:14:04.720> them?

00:14:06.044 --> 00:14:11.876
Well,<00:14:06.287> first<00:14:06.674> off,<00:14:07.644> I<00:14:07.805> live<00:14:07.983> by<00:14:08.209> one<00:14:08.468> rule,<00:14:08.710> and<00:14:08.855> that<00:14:09.098> is<00:14:09.340> he<00:14:09.518> or<00:14:09.679> she<00:14:09.905> who<00:14:10.148> dies<00:14:10.487> with<00:14:10.632> the<00:14:10.713> most<00:14:11.036> memories<00:14:11.602> wins.

00:14:12.468 --> 00:14:12.678
Okay?

00:14:12.758 --> 00:14:27.854
So,<00:14:13.338> I<00:14:13.499> think<00:14:14.691> whether<00:14:14.932> it's<00:14:15.093> a<00:14:15.174> car<00:14:15.592> or<00:14:15.673> a<00:14:15.705> motorcycle<00:14:16.478> or<00:14:16.704> a<00:14:16.945> jet<00:14:17.138> ski<00:14:17.589> or<00:14:17.831> whether<00:14:18.072> it's<00:14:18.233> a<00:14:18.249> house<00:14:18.733> or<00:14:18.813> whether<00:14:19.119> it's<00:14:19.441> a<00:14:19.699> piece<00:14:20.005> of<00:14:20.101> land<00:14:20.520> or<00:14:20.665> whether<00:14:20.907> it's<00:14:21.132> a<00:14:21.148> relationship<00:14:21.945> or<00:14:22.111> a<00:14:22.211> pet<00:14:22.642> or<00:14:22.858> whatever,<00:14:24.338> you<00:14:24.579> have<00:14:24.852> those<00:14:25.221> things<00:14:25.478> to<00:14:25.639> create<00:14:26.040> memories<00:14:26.827> with<00:14:27.068> you<00:14:27.180> and<00:14:27.308> your<00:14:27.469> family.

00:14:28.288 --> 00:14:30.326
And<00:14:28.368> so,<00:14:28.930> that's<00:14:29.476> what<00:14:29.572> it's<00:14:29.732> always<00:14:29.973> been<00:14:30.134> about.

00:14:30.872 --> 00:14:37.695
If<00:14:31.723> I<00:14:31.755> swung<00:14:32.285> my<00:14:32.461> camera<00:14:32.863> around,<00:14:33.184> you'd<00:14:33.344> see<00:14:33.601> nothing<00:14:34.067> but<00:14:34.308> memories<00:14:34.789> of<00:14:35.014> things<00:14:35.255> that<00:14:35.351> I've<00:14:35.528> done,<00:14:35.833> places<00:14:36.234> I've<00:14:36.394> gone,<00:14:36.715> people<00:14:37.021> I've<00:14:37.197> been<00:14:37.438> with.

00:14:38.144 --> 00:14:41.419
And<00:14:38.305> that,<00:14:38.818> to<00:14:39.059> me,<00:14:40.729> is<00:14:41.034> all<00:14:41.210> of<00:14:41.307> it.

00:14:41.467 --> 00:14:59.147
So,<00:14:43.217> if<00:14:43.362> I<00:14:43.538> could<00:14:43.699> get<00:14:43.859> into<00:14:44.004> somebody's<00:14:44.566> head<00:14:44.742> and<00:14:44.822> say,<00:14:46.347> "Who<00:14:46.813> do<00:14:47.054> you<00:14:47.230> really<00:14:47.551> see<00:14:47.856> yourself<00:14:48.434> being?"<00:14:49.301> And<00:14:49.638> if<00:14:49.799> you<00:14:49.943> could<00:14:50.104> look<00:14:50.280> back<00:14:50.602> on<00:14:50.842> that<00:14:51.163> and<00:14:51.260> say,<00:14:51.629> "Wow,<00:14:51.805> I<00:14:52.030> lived<00:14:52.223> my<00:14:52.432> life<00:14:52.769> like<00:14:53.090> this."<00:14:54.116> you<00:14:54.276> probably<00:14:55.654> beat<00:14:55.975> 99%<00:14:56.856> of<00:14:57.000> the<00:14:57.160> people<00:14:57.561> out<00:14:57.753> there<00:14:57.961> in<00:14:58.057> the<00:14:58.201> general<00:14:58.458> population.

00:14:59.259 --> 00:15:08.791
So,<00:15:00.140> I<00:15:00.460> just<00:15:00.621> talk<00:15:00.941> about,<00:15:01.662> you<00:15:01.742> know,<00:15:01.838> let's<00:15:02.287> not<00:15:02.543> worry<00:15:02.767> about<00:15:03.344> the<00:15:03.504> particular<00:15:04.065> things<00:15:04.482> that<00:15:04.610> you<00:15:04.706> acquire<00:15:06.148> but<00:15:06.308> the<00:15:06.452> friends,<00:15:06.853> family,<00:15:07.189> and<00:15:07.253> the<00:15:07.333> memories<00:15:07.830> you<00:15:07.974> acquire<00:15:08.327> them<00:15:08.551> with.

00:15:09.352 --> 00:15:10.714
That's<00:15:10.073> most<00:15:10.313> important.

00:15:11.259 --> 00:15:12.829
Give<00:15:11.419> me<00:15:11.531> a<00:15:11.595> sense<00:15:11.899> for<00:15:11.980> your<00:15:12.156> take<00:15:12.412> on<00:15:12.620> AI.

00:15:13.197 --> 00:15:15.728
Everyone's<00:15:13.582> obviously<00:15:13.902> really<00:15:14.142> worried<00:15:14.319> it's<00:15:14.463> going<00:15:14.559> to<00:15:14.623> take<00:15:14.799> everybody's<00:15:15.280> jobs.

00:15:16.738 --> 00:15:19.253
It<00:15:16.818> seems<00:15:17.202> to<00:15:17.266> be<00:15:17.363> taking<00:15:18.468> white-collar<00:15:18.949> jobs.

00:15:19.509 --> 00:15:23.915
It<00:15:19.605> seems<00:15:19.990> to<00:15:20.390> only<00:15:21.768> be<00:15:21.912> making<00:15:22.313> only<00:15:22.714> blue-collar<00:15:23.130> jobs<00:15:23.370> more<00:15:23.531> valuable.

00:15:24.878 --> 00:15:26.820
Honestly,<00:15:25.250> we'll<00:15:25.380> see<00:15:25.525> if<00:15:25.606> that<00:15:25.817> trend<00:15:26.059> continues,<00:15:26.642> right?

00:15:26.885 --> 00:15:27.985
But<00:15:27.063> how<00:15:27.192> are<00:15:27.289> you<00:15:27.370> thinking<00:15:27.759> about<00:15:27.953> it?

00:15:28.665 --> 00:15:36.918
Well,<00:15:28.827> I<00:15:28.989> think<00:15:29.167> it's<00:15:29.296> going<00:15:29.377> to<00:15:29.409> be<00:15:29.555> a<00:15:29.571> really<00:15:29.943> long<00:15:30.121> time<00:15:30.445> before<00:15:30.704> a<00:15:30.769> robot<00:15:31.238> drives<00:15:31.513> a<00:15:31.643> pickup<00:15:31.934> truck<00:15:32.225> in<00:15:32.371> your<00:15:32.549> front<00:15:32.792> yard<00:15:33.099> and<00:15:33.196> pulls<00:15:33.504> out<00:15:33.925> a<00:15:34.005> pine<00:15:34.329> tree<00:15:34.540> and<00:15:34.588> plants<00:15:35.038> it<00:15:35.134> next<00:15:36.034> to<00:15:36.339> your<00:15:36.628> house.

00:15:37.384 --> 00:15:38.540
I<00:15:37.528> think<00:15:37.689> that's<00:15:37.866> going<00:15:38.010> to<00:15:38.107> be<00:15:38.251> a<00:15:38.348> while.

00:15:39.713 --> 00:15:50.425
The<00:15:39.794> other<00:15:39.954> thing<00:15:40.195> about<00:15:42.365> the<00:15:42.509> robots<00:15:42.991> are<00:15:43.554> they're<00:15:43.811> really<00:15:44.116> good<00:15:44.294> with<00:15:44.600> absolute<00:15:45.181> pristine<00:15:46.311> movements,<00:15:47.666> like<00:15:47.924> precise<00:15:48.554> movements<00:15:49.118> that<00:15:49.360> don't<00:15:49.619> have<00:15:49.845> to<00:15:50.006> change.

00:15:50.893 --> 00:16:00.972
As<00:15:50.990> soon<00:15:51.216> as<00:15:51.313> you<00:15:51.394> have<00:15:51.620> to<00:15:51.716> think<00:15:51.975> about,<00:15:52.696> altering<00:15:53.117> something,<00:15:53.602> changing<00:15:54.022> something,<00:15:54.555> moving<00:15:54.895> something,<00:15:55.768> redesigning<00:15:56.430> something,<00:15:56.834> that's<00:15:57.142> where<00:15:57.239> they<00:15:57.400> begin<00:15:58.370> to<00:15:58.515> fall<00:15:58.855> off<00:15:59.405> the<00:15:59.582> efficacy<00:16:00.374> map<00:16:00.698> for<00:16:00.843> me.

00:16:01.587 --> 00:16:13.007
So<00:16:02.314> yeah,<00:16:02.395> I<00:16:02.460> don't<00:16:02.637> think<00:16:02.749> anyone's<00:16:03.055> going<00:16:03.168> to<00:16:03.216> be<00:16:03.361> doing<00:16:03.554> your<00:16:03.764> hair<00:16:05.068> or<00:16:05.470> making<00:16:05.857> your<00:16:06.018> food<00:16:06.501> anytime<00:16:06.984> soon<00:16:07.885> in<00:16:08.030> that<00:16:08.207> respect,<00:16:08.932> especially<00:16:09.318> when<00:16:09.415> it<00:16:09.495> comes<00:16:09.817> to<00:16:10.316> thinking,<00:16:10.767> designing,<00:16:11.588> the<00:16:11.814> art<00:16:12.120> form<00:16:12.249> of<00:16:12.394> what<00:16:12.539> you're<00:16:12.716> doing.

00:16:13.507 --> 00:16:15.184
I<00:16:13.604> think<00:16:13.829> we're<00:16:13.926> a<00:16:13.942> long<00:16:14.249> way<00:16:14.475> away<00:16:14.652> from<00:16:14.878> that.

00:16:17.298 --> 00:16:18.685
It<00:16:17.701> could<00:16:17.878> surprise<00:16:18.443> me<00:16:18.604> though.

00:16:18.766 --> 00:16:20.863
I<00:16:18.782> mean,<00:16:19.072> who<00:16:19.233> knows<00:16:19.491> what<00:16:19.637> these<00:16:19.895> things<00:16:20.121> are<00:16:20.217> capable<00:16:20.766> of?

00:16:21.492 --> 00:16:34.480
I<00:16:21.524> know<00:16:21.750> that<00:16:21.960> when<00:16:22.066> I<00:16:22.084> ask<00:16:22.137> it<00:16:22.172> a<00:16:22.190> question<00:16:22.332> sometimes<00:16:22.456> and<00:16:22.526> it<00:16:24.500> gives<00:16:24.676> me<00:16:24.756> an<00:16:24.836> answer,<00:16:25.189> I'm<00:16:25.318> like,<00:16:25.494> "Wow,<00:16:26.297> that's<00:16:26.698> pretty<00:16:26.874> impressive<00:16:27.420> stuff."<00:16:27.757> So,<00:16:28.864> but<00:16:29.008> yeah,<00:16:29.490> I<00:16:29.522> don't<00:16:29.746> necessarily<00:16:30.388> think<00:16:30.645> it's<00:16:30.789> going<00:16:31.030> to<00:16:31.271> get<00:16:31.431> into<00:16:32.859> a<00:16:32.875> lot<00:16:33.116> of<00:16:33.196> blue-collar<00:16:33.678> stuff<00:16:33.982> that<00:16:34.159> quickly.

00:16:34.576 --> 00:16:41.235
If<00:16:34.785> anything,<00:16:36.020> it<00:16:36.181> might<00:16:36.421> enhance<00:16:36.967> what<00:16:37.191> we<00:16:37.288> do<00:16:37.432> already,<00:16:37.930> kind<00:16:38.154> of<00:16:38.315> like<00:16:38.571> the<00:16:38.620> nail<00:16:39.053> gun<00:16:39.438> did<00:16:39.695> to<00:16:39.855> the<00:16:40.015> hammer,<00:16:41.042> okay?

00:16:41.716 --> 00:16:46.129
It'll<00:16:42.422> enhance<00:16:42.888> what<00:16:43.048> we<00:16:43.128> do,<00:16:43.241> but<00:16:43.337> I'm<00:16:43.401> not<00:16:43.578> so<00:16:43.770> sure<00:16:43.931> it's<00:16:44.027> going<00:16:44.139> to<00:16:44.268> take<00:16:44.749> what<00:16:44.909> we<00:16:45.070> do<00:16:45.551> anytime<00:16:45.952> soon.

00:16:46.755 --> 00:16:49.418
Tell<00:16:46.883> us<00:16:47.011> about<00:16:47.156> your<00:16:47.300> course<00:16:48.022> and<00:16:48.102> how<00:16:48.263> you<00:16:48.343> got<00:16:48.439> started<00:16:48.760> doing<00:16:49.001> that.

00:16:49.627 --> 00:16:55.178
You<00:16:49.659> know,<00:16:50.124> you<00:16:50.269> have<00:16:50.429> a<00:16:50.525> Black<00:16:50.846> background<00:16:51.472> and<00:16:51.905> I<00:16:52.050> love<00:16:52.290> that<00:16:52.531> because<00:16:52.836> I<00:16:52.852> love<00:16:53.012> the<00:16:53.093> contrast<00:16:53.799> of<00:16:53.911> what<00:16:54.055> I<00:16:54.152> see<00:16:54.521> in<00:16:54.697> you<00:16:54.858> there.

00:16:55.323 --> 00:16:56.189
It's<00:16:55.804> awesome.

00:16:56.848 --> 00:17:00.091
A<00:16:56.864> lot<00:16:57.024> of<00:16:57.169> people<00:16:57.361> have<00:16:57.586> backgrounds<00:16:58.212> where<00:16:58.293> they<00:16:58.389> have<00:16:58.550> a<00:16:58.630> bunch<00:16:58.871> of<00:16:58.951> books<00:16:59.336> on<00:16:59.433> the<00:16:59.497> shelf,<00:16:59.850> you<00:16:59.995> know?

00:17:00.621 --> 00:17:11.812
So,<00:17:01.600> sometimes<00:17:02.098> I'll<00:17:02.323> just<00:17:02.483> say,<00:17:02.724> "Hey,<00:17:03.447> you<00:17:03.543> know,<00:17:04.474> off<00:17:04.715> camera,<00:17:05.775> that<00:17:06.016> book<00:17:06.321> on<00:17:06.498> the<00:17:06.658> third<00:17:06.899> one<00:17:07.060> on<00:17:07.204> the<00:17:07.300> left,<00:17:07.686> what's<00:17:08.167> that<00:17:08.344> book<00:17:08.986> and<00:17:10.030> what's<00:17:10.287> it<00:17:10.367> about?"<00:17:10.897> "Oh,<00:17:11.074> I<00:17:11.298> love<00:17:11.459> that<00:17:11.636> book.

00:17:11.860 --> 00:17:25.030
I<00:17:11.957> read."<00:17:12.503> "How<00:17:12.599> did<00:17:12.760> that<00:17:13.000> book<00:17:13.787> change<00:17:14.108> your<00:17:14.205> life<00:17:14.606> like<00:17:14.847> immediately<00:17:15.409> after<00:17:15.634> you<00:17:15.730> read<00:17:15.971> it?"<00:17:16.533> "Well,<00:17:16.597> I<00:17:16.774> don't<00:17:16.918> know,<00:17:17.111> but<00:17:17.239> it<00:17:17.336> was<00:17:17.496> a<00:17:17.561> good<00:17:17.737> book."<00:17:18.042> So,<00:17:18.620> that<00:17:19.102> kind<00:17:19.279> of<00:17:19.327> scared<00:17:19.552> me<00:17:19.664> because<00:17:19.969> I<00:17:19.985> never<00:17:20.226> wanted<00:17:20.467> my<00:17:20.708> book<00:17:20.868> to<00:17:21.029> just<00:17:21.414> be<00:17:21.976> one<00:17:22.137> of<00:17:22.217> the<00:17:22.314> crowd,<00:17:22.780> one<00:17:22.957> of<00:17:23.021> the<00:17:23.101> many<00:17:23.664> holding<00:17:23.985> up<00:17:24.146> your<00:17:24.226> shelf,<00:17:24.725> you<00:17:24.805> know?

00:17:26.589 --> 00:17:36.365
So<00:17:27.601> I<00:17:27.714> knew<00:17:28.180> that<00:17:28.823> it<00:17:28.983> took<00:17:29.305> at<00:17:29.449> least<00:17:29.771> 3<00:17:29.932> or<00:17:30.028> 4<00:17:30.333> times<00:17:30.912> of<00:17:30.993> saying<00:17:31.332> something<00:17:31.896> or<00:17:32.025> 5<00:17:32.364> times<00:17:32.913> of<00:17:32.945> saying<00:17:33.251> something<00:17:33.655> to<00:17:33.881> really<00:17:34.526> imprint<00:17:35.187> it<00:17:35.348> into<00:17:35.510> somebody's<00:17:36.139> mind.

00:17:36.413 --> 00:17:41.384
So<00:17:37.284> I<00:17:37.349> wanted<00:17:37.607> people<00:17:37.865> to<00:17:37.994> read<00:17:38.155> the<00:17:38.252> book<00:17:38.897> and<00:17:38.962> then<00:17:39.123> I<00:17:39.139> wanted<00:17:39.365> them<00:17:39.462> to<00:17:39.623> take<00:17:39.849> the<00:17:39.946> course,<00:17:40.268> which<00:17:40.430> is<00:17:40.575> a<00:17:40.640> really<00:17:40.834> simple<00:17:41.157> course.

00:17:41.481 --> 00:17:42.338
It's<00:17:41.723> 8<00:17:41.869> sessions.

00:17:42.386 --> 00:17:44.036
They're<00:17:42.516> about<00:17:42.855> 45<00:17:43.260> minutes<00:17:43.518> a<00:17:43.583> session.

00:17:44.618 --> 00:17:56.647
You<00:17:44.651> see<00:17:44.942> me,<00:17:45.281> it's<00:17:45.589> all<00:17:45.750> online,<00:17:47.465> but<00:17:47.627> I<00:17:47.772> really<00:17:47.950> teach<00:17:48.338> you<00:17:48.500> how<00:17:48.823> to<00:17:49.632> start<00:17:50.057> thinking<00:17:50.391> differently<00:17:50.910> about<00:17:51.228> your<00:17:51.378> life,<00:17:51.478> how<00:17:51.512> to<00:17:51.562> design<00:17:51.646> your<00:17:51.696> life,<00:17:52.946> starting<00:17:53.603> this<00:17:53.987> afternoon,<00:17:54.644> not<00:17:54.868> like<00:17:55.045> next<00:17:55.349> week<00:17:55.525> or<00:17:55.926> like<00:17:56.166> today.

00:17:57.512 --> 00:17:59.739
And,<00:17:58.490> you<00:17:58.730> know,<00:17:59.115> it's<00:17:59.275> a<00:17:59.291> simple<00:17:59.675> thing.

00:17:59.932 --> 00:18:01.630
I<00:18:00.012> think<00:18:00.172> it's<00:18:00.380> $179.

00:18:01.694 --> 00:18:07.719
I<00:18:01.854> donate<00:18:02.816> that<00:18:03.040> money<00:18:03.297> to<00:18:04.723> First<00:18:05.043> Responders<00:18:05.556> Kids<00:18:05.860> and<00:18:06.325> Gold<00:18:06.533> Star<00:18:06.742> Families<00:18:07.142> and<00:18:07.206> that<00:18:07.366> kind<00:18:07.527> of<00:18:07.623> thing.

00:18:07.767 --> 00:18:09.145
So,<00:18:07.863> it's<00:18:08.023> not<00:18:08.200> a<00:18:08.248> money<00:18:08.584> thing<00:18:08.744> for<00:18:08.889> me.

00:18:09.690 --> 00:18:16.884
I<00:18:09.786> wanted<00:18:10.026> to<00:18:10.090> make<00:18:10.347> sure<00:18:10.747> that<00:18:10.924> my<00:18:11.228> book<00:18:12.254> actually<00:18:12.750> worked<00:18:13.071> its<00:18:13.295> way<00:18:13.615> into<00:18:13.952> your<00:18:14.192> soul<00:18:15.538> and<00:18:15.859> into<00:18:16.195> your<00:18:16.436> actions.

00:18:17.397 --> 00:18:20.361
And<00:18:17.493> so,<00:18:18.198> I<00:18:18.342> kind<00:18:18.583> of<00:18:18.839> hold<00:18:19.079> you<00:18:19.143> accountable<00:18:19.560> by<00:18:19.720> doing<00:18:19.961> it<00:18:20.105> that<00:18:20.265> way.

00:18:20.987 --> 00:18:24.099
What<00:18:21.147> had—<00:18:21.468> what<00:18:21.644> made<00:18:21.885> you—<00:18:22.527> what<00:18:22.639> motivated<00:18:23.169> you<00:18:23.249> to<00:18:23.345> donate<00:18:23.730> that<00:18:23.891> money?

00:18:24.613 --> 00:18:25.190
That's<00:18:24.773> interesting.

00:18:25.800 --> 00:18:49.209
You<00:18:25.912> know,<00:18:27.084> if<00:18:27.196> you<00:18:27.340> think<00:18:27.597> about<00:18:27.966> people<00:18:28.367> that<00:18:28.624> go<00:18:28.945> to<00:18:29.667> war<00:18:30.373> on<00:18:30.453> our<00:18:30.629> behalf,<00:18:31.351> okay,<00:18:32.459> a<00:18:32.475> lot<00:18:32.715> of<00:18:32.795> times<00:18:33.277> they'll<00:18:33.501> come<00:18:33.742> home<00:18:33.999> and<00:18:34.143> they'll<00:18:34.272> say,<00:18:35.748> yesterday<00:18:36.550> I<00:18:36.630> was<00:18:36.807> driving<00:18:37.352> an<00:18:37.593> M1<00:18:38.796> Abrams<00:18:39.213> tank<00:18:39.839> lobbing<00:18:40.176> bombs<00:18:40.577> at<00:18:40.657> people<00:18:42.326> and/or<00:18:42.743> targets,<00:18:43.706> and<00:18:43.866> today<00:18:44.091> I'm<00:18:44.332> staying<00:18:44.668> in<00:18:44.765> a<00:18:44.829> grocery<00:18:45.230> store<00:18:46.016> buying<00:18:46.353> peanut<00:18:46.594> butter<00:18:46.834> and<00:18:46.915> jelly,<00:18:47.380> and<00:18:47.460> I<00:18:47.508> don't<00:18:47.637> know<00:18:47.861> what<00:18:48.038> the<00:18:48.118> hell<00:18:48.278> I'm<00:18:48.391> going<00:18:48.471> to<00:18:48.519> do<00:18:48.664> with<00:18:48.824> my<00:18:48.920> life.

00:18:49.787 --> 00:18:56.533
I,<00:18:49.948> I<00:18:50.365> could<00:18:50.670> not<00:18:50.927> fathom<00:18:51.409> that<00:18:51.634> happening<00:18:52.036> because<00:18:52.357> we're<00:18:52.534> losing<00:18:52.871> 33<00:18:53.497> people<00:18:53.883> a<00:18:53.979> day<00:18:54.702> to<00:18:54.846> suicide<00:18:56.131> every<00:18:56.308> day.

00:18:57.496 --> 00:19:02.620
And,<00:18:58.219> and<00:18:58.380> depression—<00:18:59.359> that<00:18:59.456> doesn't<00:18:59.745> even<00:18:59.906> count<00:19:00.162> the<00:19:00.243> depression,<00:19:00.725> the<00:19:00.869> confusion,<00:19:01.367> the<00:19:01.447> frustration,<00:19:02.026> the<00:19:02.090> anxiety.

00:19:03.214 --> 00:19:13.830
So<00:19:03.600> I<00:19:03.680> was<00:19:03.857> thinking<00:19:04.178> to<00:19:04.242> myself,<00:19:04.724> wait<00:19:04.900> a<00:19:04.917> minute,<00:19:05.623> so<00:19:06.410> if<00:19:06.571> you're<00:19:06.747> going<00:19:07.053> into<00:19:07.245> the<00:19:07.454> armed<00:19:07.631> services,<00:19:09.060> can't<00:19:09.317> you<00:19:09.542> know<00:19:09.960> that<00:19:10.120> you're<00:19:10.281> going<00:19:10.377> to<00:19:10.506> be<00:19:10.602> an<00:19:10.682> electrician<00:19:11.967> before<00:19:12.433> you<00:19:12.594> go<00:19:12.835> into<00:19:13.108> the<00:19:13.236> armed<00:19:13.349> services?

00:19:13.895 --> 00:19:22.533
Can't<00:19:14.280> you<00:19:14.312> know<00:19:14.633> that<00:19:14.842> you<00:19:14.939> can<00:19:15.099> kind<00:19:15.340> of<00:19:15.806> keep<00:19:16.047> that<00:19:16.287> in<00:19:16.384> your<00:19:16.560> mind<00:19:17.171> as<00:19:17.411> you're<00:19:17.508> going<00:19:17.829> through<00:19:18.375> your<00:19:18.567> service<00:19:19.595> and<00:19:19.900> in<00:19:20.301> your<00:19:20.398> spare<00:19:20.719> time,<00:19:21.104> be<00:19:21.281> reading<00:19:21.602> up<00:19:21.826> on<00:19:21.923> those<00:19:22.228> things.

00:19:22.886 --> 00:19:27.703
And<00:19:22.950> then<00:19:23.127> when<00:19:23.271> you<00:19:23.448> get<00:19:23.673> out,<00:19:24.476> you<00:19:24.877> automatically<00:19:25.471> know<00:19:25.776> you're<00:19:25.856> going<00:19:25.969> to<00:19:26.097> start<00:19:26.659> your<00:19:26.900> electric<00:19:27.301> company.

00:19:27.783 --> 00:19:28.024
Okay?

00:19:28.104 --> 00:19:29.742
You're<00:19:28.168> going<00:19:28.232> to<00:19:28.265> start<00:19:28.505> your<00:19:28.586> electrician's<00:19:29.308> business.

00:19:30.207 --> 00:19:35.200
Isn't<00:19:30.416> that<00:19:30.576> a<00:19:30.593> much<00:19:30.978> clearer,<00:19:31.411> more<00:19:31.700> concise<00:19:32.278> pathway<00:19:33.402> than<00:19:33.787> coming<00:19:34.125> out<00:19:34.189> and<00:19:34.365> going,<00:19:34.606> well,<00:19:34.767> now<00:19:35.008> what?

00:19:35.714 --> 00:19:38.251
I<00:19:35.810> was<00:19:36.051> this<00:19:36.533> person<00:19:36.918> yesterday<00:19:37.304> and<00:19:37.480> here<00:19:37.657> I<00:19:37.817> am<00:19:37.962> today.

00:19:38.925 --> 00:19:55.425
So<00:19:39.246> I<00:19:39.326> really<00:19:39.648> wanted<00:19:39.937> to<00:19:40.129> end<00:19:40.306> the<00:19:40.386> confusion,<00:19:41.012> the<00:19:41.109> anxiety,<00:19:42.937> the<00:19:43.194> what<00:19:43.418> if<00:19:44.637> by<00:19:44.797> just<00:19:45.021> positioning<00:19:45.518> people<00:19:45.903> to<00:19:46.063> have<00:19:46.256> this<00:19:46.464> course<00:19:46.801> in<00:19:46.881> this<00:19:47.121> book<00:19:47.442> and<00:19:47.602> know<00:19:48.644> that<00:19:48.949> you<00:19:49.189> are<00:19:50.087> respected,<00:19:50.744> you're<00:19:50.872> not<00:19:50.984> stigmatized,<00:19:51.850> you<00:19:52.010> are<00:19:52.235> absolutely<00:19:52.716> loved<00:19:53.036> and<00:19:53.116> you're<00:19:53.934> being<00:19:54.158> thanked<00:19:54.575> for<00:19:54.800> what<00:19:54.960> you've<00:19:55.136> done.

00:19:56.403 --> 00:20:01.388
And<00:19:56.563> we<00:19:56.739> want<00:19:56.964> your<00:19:57.060> mind<00:19:57.364> to<00:19:57.445> be<00:19:57.541> right<00:19:57.781> when<00:19:57.926> it<00:19:58.006> comes<00:19:58.262> back<00:19:58.503> too,<00:19:59.288> so<00:19:59.400> you<00:19:59.529> can<00:19:59.625> get<00:19:59.785> down<00:20:00.009> to<00:20:00.106> business<00:20:00.506> and<00:20:00.570> just<00:20:00.731> start<00:20:00.907> living<00:20:01.132> your<00:20:01.180> life.

00:20:02.173 --> 00:20:03.472
What<00:20:02.254> do<00:20:02.334> you<00:20:02.430> want<00:20:02.590> your<00:20:02.735> legacy<00:20:03.215> to<00:20:03.312> be?

00:20:04.354 --> 00:20:13.184
You<00:20:04.434> know,<00:20:05.396> I<00:20:05.476> think<00:20:05.780> what<00:20:05.941> happens<00:20:06.421> is<00:20:07.015> you<00:20:07.159> hear<00:20:07.640> all<00:20:07.800> these<00:20:08.105> things<00:20:09.467> The<00:20:09.563> harder<00:20:09.787> you<00:20:09.948> work,<00:20:10.140> the<00:20:10.220> luckier<00:20:10.669> you<00:20:10.829> get,<00:20:11.181> or<00:20:11.550> luck<00:20:11.806> is<00:20:12.031> labor<00:20:12.287> under<00:20:12.527> correct<00:20:12.848> knowledge.

00:20:13.249 --> 00:20:26.436
And<00:20:13.393> you<00:20:13.473> hear<00:20:13.633> all<00:20:13.745> these<00:20:14.034> things,<00:20:14.370> but<00:20:15.716> I<00:20:15.893> do<00:20:16.117> believe<00:20:16.453> that<00:20:17.335> if<00:20:17.559> you<00:20:17.735> work<00:20:17.960> very,<00:20:18.216> very<00:20:18.521> hard<00:20:19.161> and<00:20:19.322> you<00:20:19.482> are<00:20:19.658> aware,<00:20:21.004> you<00:20:21.100> just<00:20:21.325> keep<00:20:21.565> yourself<00:20:21.902> aware<00:20:22.222> of<00:20:22.318> the<00:20:22.527> opportunities<00:20:23.184> around<00:20:23.568> you<00:20:23.648> and<00:20:23.728> you<00:20:23.825> live<00:20:24.049> a<00:20:24.081> life<00:20:24.401> of<00:20:24.530> chasing<00:20:25.026> or<00:20:25.347> anticipating<00:20:26.068> things.

00:20:27.670 --> 00:20:32.333
I<00:20:27.766> think<00:20:28.071> when<00:20:28.215> you<00:20:28.311> start<00:20:28.696> to<00:20:28.776> have<00:20:29.016> that<00:20:29.257> happen,<00:20:30.234> you're<00:20:30.459> very<00:20:30.715> grateful<00:20:31.596> and<00:20:31.756> very<00:20:31.997> blessed.

00:20:32.622 --> 00:20:34.897
I've<00:20:33.119> gotten<00:20:33.439> almost<00:20:33.743> everything<00:20:34.064> I've<00:20:34.160> ever<00:20:34.384> wanted.

00:20:35.363 --> 00:20:38.912
Worked<00:20:35.603> for<00:20:35.844> it,<00:20:36.005> but<00:20:37.113> I'm,<00:20:37.370> I<00:20:37.515> feel<00:20:37.772> very<00:20:38.077> grateful,<00:20:38.414> very<00:20:38.639> blessed.

00:20:38.976 --> 00:20:49.736
And<00:20:39.121> I<00:20:39.217> also<00:20:39.538> feel<00:20:39.731> like<00:20:39.956> it's<00:20:40.100> incumbent<00:20:40.566> upon<00:20:40.839> me<00:20:40.983> now<00:20:42.108> to<00:20:42.252> help<00:20:42.429> shorten<00:20:42.814> the<00:20:42.895> learning<00:20:43.216> curve<00:20:43.633> of<00:20:43.778> the<00:20:43.810> next<00:20:44.340> entrepreneur<00:20:44.838> that's<00:20:44.998> coming<00:20:45.304> down<00:20:45.496> the<00:20:45.561> line<00:20:45.962> because<00:20:47.006> I<00:20:47.167> wish<00:20:47.632> people<00:20:47.873> would've<00:20:48.114> told<00:20:48.355> me<00:20:48.467> a<00:20:48.596> couple<00:20:48.853> of<00:20:48.917> things,<00:20:49.415> right?

00:20:50.443 --> 00:20:54.570
And<00:20:51.198> if<00:20:51.406> I<00:20:51.503> can<00:20:51.647> shorten<00:20:51.904> that<00:20:52.001> learning<00:20:52.306> curve<00:20:52.547> for<00:20:52.707> others,<00:20:53.831> that's<00:20:54.137> really<00:20:54.313> cool.

00:20:54.699 --> 00:21:01.749
So<00:20:54.779> my<00:20:54.956> legacy<00:20:55.357> would<00:20:55.518> probably<00:20:55.919> be,<00:20:56.867> you<00:20:56.947> know,<00:20:57.830> he,<00:20:58.071> he<00:20:58.232> had<00:20:58.408> a<00:20:58.489> blast,<00:20:58.971> he<00:20:59.131> lived<00:20:59.372> great,<00:20:59.854> but<00:20:59.918> he<00:21:00.079> also<00:21:00.320> cared<00:21:00.560> a<00:21:00.641> hell<00:21:00.753> of<00:21:00.817> a<00:21:00.833> lot<00:21:01.042> about<00:21:01.283> other<00:21:01.444> people.

00:21:02.006 --> 00:21:03.113
And<00:21:02.102> their<00:21:02.198> successes<00:21:02.840> as<00:21:02.984> well.

00:21:03.770 --> 00:21:11.293
Finally,<00:21:04.171> we<00:21:04.332> end<00:21:04.572> every<00:21:04.829> interview<00:21:05.150> with<00:21:05.294> the<00:21:05.374> same<00:21:05.615> question,<00:21:06.032> and<00:21:06.192> that<00:21:06.417> is,<00:21:06.577> at<00:21:06.609> CEO.com,<00:21:07.540> we<00:21:07.700> believe<00:21:07.893> the<00:21:08.021> chances<00:21:08.422> one<00:21:08.679> gives<00:21:09.304> is<00:21:09.400> just<00:21:09.641> as<00:21:09.721> important<00:21:10.042> as<00:21:10.186> the<00:21:10.283> chances<00:21:10.684> one<00:21:10.844> takes.

00:21:11.951 --> 00:21:14.774
When<00:21:12.127> you<00:21:12.368> hear<00:21:12.544> that,<00:21:12.785> who<00:21:12.929> gave<00:21:13.154> you<00:21:13.266> a<00:21:13.330> chance<00:21:13.651> to<00:21:13.731> get<00:21:13.892> you<00:21:13.988> to<00:21:14.116> where<00:21:14.293> you<00:21:14.453> are<00:21:14.614> today?

00:21:15.496 --> 00:21:16.105
Two<00:21:15.720> people.

00:21:16.298 --> 00:21:27.061
My<00:21:16.458> father,<00:21:17.004> who<00:21:17.164> was<00:21:17.324> a<00:21:17.356> Marine,<00:21:18.207> and<00:21:18.367> I<00:21:18.463> would<00:21:18.608> call<00:21:18.848> him<00:21:19.025> the<00:21:19.185> imperfect<00:21:19.746> perfectionist<00:21:20.532> because<00:21:20.933> he<00:21:21.110> held<00:21:21.351> me<00:21:21.431> to<00:21:21.671> account<00:21:22.153> on<00:21:22.233> those<00:21:22.538> white<00:21:22.714> walls<00:21:23.115> and<00:21:23.259> those<00:21:23.356> shiny<00:21:23.757> shoes<00:21:25.280> and<00:21:25.361> those<00:21:25.665> wire<00:21:25.922> wheels<00:21:26.243> and<00:21:26.403> wax<00:21:26.724> in<00:21:26.804> the<00:21:26.884> car.

00:21:27.125 --> 00:21:30.783
He<00:21:27.221> held<00:21:27.446> me<00:21:27.526> to<00:21:27.751> account<00:21:28.088> on<00:21:28.168> the<00:21:28.264> straight<00:21:28.569> lines<00:21:28.954> on<00:21:29.034> the<00:21:29.130> lawn<00:21:29.451> and<00:21:29.595> all<00:21:29.660> all<00:21:29.692> that.

00:21:31.617 --> 00:21:43.489
And<00:21:32.098> also,<00:21:32.435> my<00:21:32.644> first<00:21:32.980> boss<00:21:34.264> who<00:21:34.505> lived<00:21:34.761> a<00:21:34.825> life<00:21:35.130> like<00:21:35.371> Mick<00:21:35.467> Jagger<00:21:36.349> and<00:21:37.617> had<00:21:37.809> no<00:21:38.034> problem<00:21:38.900> telling<00:21:39.221> us<00:21:39.863> all<00:21:40.039> about<00:21:40.344> how<00:21:40.601> to<00:21:40.825> live<00:21:41.002> life<00:21:41.804> in<00:21:41.900> a<00:21:41.965> really,<00:21:42.285> really<00:21:42.526> great,<00:21:42.991> great<00:21:43.248> way.

00:21:43.569 --> 00:21:52.056
So,<00:21:44.291> those<00:21:44.531> two<00:21:44.772> people<00:21:45.318> combined<00:21:46.441> created<00:21:46.794> a<00:21:46.938> pretty<00:21:47.323> cool<00:21:47.740> but<00:21:47.900> disciplined<00:21:48.606> but<00:21:49.745> living<00:21:50.050> life<00:21:50.371> big<00:21:50.788> kind<00:21:51.029> of<00:21:51.109> persona<00:21:51.751> in<00:21:51.911> me.

00:21:52.152 --> 00:21:53.981
And<00:21:53.114> I<00:21:53.259> love<00:21:53.435> them<00:21:53.532> both<00:21:53.756> for<00:21:53.917> it.

00:21:54.061 --> 00:21:55.537
I'll<00:21:54.639> never<00:21:55.040> thank<00:21:55.280> them<00:21:55.377> enough.

00:21:56.105 --> 00:21:56.655
