8 Productivity Hacks For CEOs

Running a company is no easy job. As a CEO, you have to manage your time carefully to fulfill all the demands your business calls for. Leaders that are on top of their game have developed some efficient techniques to maximize their productivity. What exactly are these techniques? Here are eight tips for CEOs that will maximize your productivity.

1. Don’t become a slave to email

The time spent reading and replying to email slowly adds up. Before you know it, it’s 4PM and you haven’t done much but reply to emails. A convenient strategy many use is to create a schedule for checking and replying to emails. Notify your colleagues of your new email schedule, and request that they call you if the issue at hand is urgent.

2. Don’t multitask

Instead of trying to do many things at once, many successful CEOs focus solely on the task at hand. Multitasking has been shown to be less effective in terms of work done versus getting your tasks done one at a time. By directing your focus on one item, your chances of making a mistake are diminished.

3. Remove all distractions

Blocking out all distractions will help you focus on your task. If need be, make yourself uninterruptable. When you’re distracted by a co-worker who drops by your office, finding your train of thought again can take a few minutes. Implement a system, such as a do not disturb sign, that lets people know that you are working on something important and should only be disturbed in case of an emergency.

4. Delegate responsibilities

The never-ending responsibilities of a CEO are certainly too much for one person to handle alone. Delegating is a simple and proven technique to boost your productivity. Giving a project to a member of your team lightens your load and allows you to focus on another task. A modern solution is outsourcing: passing off everyday tasks, such as shopping and bills, to specific companies that exist to lighten your load.

5. Get up earlier

The way you begin your morning will set the tone for the rest of the day. Many successful CEOs, such as GE CEO Jeff Immelt are up at the crack of dawn to kick-start their day while many others are sleeping in.

6. Include plenty of breaks throughout your day

Human minds tend to lose focus when concentrating on something for too long. A way to trick your brain into refilling your “focus meter” is to take short 10 minute breaks for every 50 minutes of work. This is similar to the pomodoro method, which many busy people utilize.

7. Keep your body healthy

An unhealthy body can make your energy levels dip, which equates to less than average productivity. Eating healthy as well as exercising regularly will give you above average energy levels that will help you tackle your to-do list every day.

8. Set a time limit on meetings

Meetings can be notorious time wasters. One way to get the most out of your meetings is to set time limits. This will cause your coworkers to pay attention to the clock and as a result talk about just the important issues.

While being a CEO is a very challenging job, it can also be rewarding. You’ll be amazed at how much more you can accomplish with these productivity hacks.
