HopSkipDrive Co-Founder & CEO Joanna McFarland: How transportation shapes educational opportunity

Show notes

The bus doesn't come for everyone

Joanna McFarland needed 20 minutes of help.

She was working full-time and raising two kids. One of them wanted to go to karate at three o'clock on a Thursday afternoon. She had no way to get him there. She didn't need a nanny and couldn't afford one anyway.

"Honestly, we felt like terrible working moms," McFarland told the CEO.com Podcast.

She had found two other women with the same problem. Between them they had eight kids. In 2014 they founded HopSkipDrive, a rideshare platform built for children, with a network of vetted drivers the company calls CareDrivers.

The market they backed into is bigger than karate. More than $30 billion is spent every year on student transportation in the United States, and most of it goes to a system that hasn't changed in decades: a 72-passenger yellow bus running fixed routes. "Education has changed, transportation needs have changed, and families have changed," McFarland said. HopSkipDrive now works with about 700 school districts in 17 states, filling the gaps with cars and vans where a bus doesn't work.

McFarland resists the Uber-for-kids shorthand. The company is licensed the same way Uber and Lyft are, and that's where the resemblance stops, because the person in the car is not the person who booked the ride. A kid may not have a phone. A kid may not be able to speak up. So the founders built the whole system around a question McFarland still uses: What would a parent need to see before putting their own child in the car? CareDrivers average about 10 years of caregiving experience and clear background checks, fingerprinting, vehicle inspections, video interviews, and a 15-point screening. A support team watches every ride live. Parents and schools can see who is driving, where the child is, and when the car will arrive.

The customers who proved the model were foster kids. Federal law lets a foster child stay enrolled at her school even when she's moved to a new placement, and a placement can happen overnight, 45 miles away. No bus system reroutes itself for one student. HopSkipDrive can. A Los Angeles County employee who used the service for her own daughter introduced the company to the child welfare system, and today many of its riders are foster youth, students experiencing homelessness, and students with special needs.

For their families, a ride is rarely just a ride. In a 2025 survey by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and HopSkipDrive, 11 percent of parents said they had lost a job because of getting their children to and from school. About a third had missed work. The company's 2026 State of School Transportation Report found 71 percent of districts surveyed experienced at least one operational consequence of driver shortages in the past year, from longer ride times to missed pickups.

"Transportation impacts much more than getting from Point A to Point B," McFarland said. "It impacts education. It impacts workforce participation. It impacts economic mobility."

The company nearly didn't live long enough to make the argument. When COVID closed schools, the business stopped with them, and McFarland laid off more than half her staff. She rehired more than a third of them as schools reopened into worse driver shortages and higher absenteeism than before. In 2022, HopSkipDrive raised a $37 million Series D from investors including Energy Impact Partners, Keyframe Capital, and FirstMark Capital.

The newest product is software. RouteWise AI lets a district upload its transportation data and test hundreds of thousands of routing scenarios in minutes. One school board proposed a schedule change; RouteWise showed it would cost an extra $2 million a year, then produced alternatives that hit the same goal for nothing. "For us, AI isn't about replacing people," McFarland said. "It's about helping people focus on the work that matters most."

McFarland came to all this sideways. Investment banking first, then private equity, then a Stanford MBA and 15 years in product management before the karate problem. In 2025, Inc. put her on its Female Founders 500 list.

Asked who gave her a chance, she talked about the people who promoted her early.

"What stands out most are the people who trusted me before I was fully ready," she said. "They put me in situations that were uncomfortable and challenging. They allowed me to learn, make mistakes, and grow. Those opportunities shaped my career more than anything else."

Joanna,<00:00:00.560> thank<00:00:00.800> you<00:00:00.880> so<00:00:01.000> much<00:00:01.240> for<00:00:01.360> coming<00:00:01.640> on<00:00:01.760> the<00:00:01.840> show.

00:00:02.120 --> 00:00:07.120
You're<00:00:02.240> the<00:00:02.360> co-founder<00:00:03.160> and<00:00:03.360> CEO<00:00:04.640> of<00:00:04.880> HopSkipDrive.

00:00:07.120 --> 00:00:13.000
What<00:00:07.400> is<00:00:07.520> HopSkipDrive?<00:00:09.240> HopSkipDrive<00:00:10.400> is<00:00:10.760> a<00:00:10.840> student<00:00:11.400> transportation<00:00:12.200> solution.

00:00:13.000 --> 00:00:22.640
We<00:00:13.280> help<00:00:13.600> school<00:00:13.960> districts<00:00:15.040> supplement<00:00:15.880> the<00:00:15.960> yellow<00:00:16.240> school<00:00:16.560> bus<00:00:16.960> to<00:00:17.120> make<00:00:17.400> sure<00:00:17.840> that<00:00:18.560> all<00:00:18.800> of<00:00:18.920> our<00:00:19.040> kids<00:00:19.400> have<00:00:19.640> access<00:00:20.280> to<00:00:20.440> getting<00:00:20.760> to<00:00:20.880> school.

00:00:22.640 --> 00:00:29.160
So,<00:00:23.280> how<00:00:23.440> did<00:00:23.640> you<00:00:23.760> realize<00:00:24.440> first<00:00:24.840> that<00:00:24.960> this<00:00:25.120> was<00:00:25.240> a<00:00:25.320> problem<00:00:25.880> and<00:00:26.360> that<00:00:26.600> needed<00:00:26.960> a<00:00:27.040> solution<00:00:27.440> in<00:00:27.520> the<00:00:27.600> first<00:00:27.800> place?

00:00:29.160 --> 00:00:38.920
Well,<00:00:29.480> we<00:00:29.640> set<00:00:29.880> out<00:00:30.080> to<00:00:30.200> solve<00:00:30.680> a<00:00:30.760> slightly<00:00:31.200> different<00:00:31.680> problem<00:00:32.840> originally<00:00:33.520> and<00:00:33.680> that<00:00:33.920> problem<00:00:34.360> was<00:00:34.840> that<00:00:35.280> we<00:00:35.520> felt<00:00:35.880> like<00:00:36.120> really<00:00:36.400> guilty,<00:00:37.080> terrible<00:00:37.800> mothers.

00:00:38.920 --> 00:00:41.520
You<00:00:39.040> know,<00:00:39.280> I<00:00:40.120> I<00:00:40.200> was<00:00:40.320> a<00:00:40.400> full-time<00:00:40.760> working<00:00:41.040> mom.

00:00:41.520 --> 00:00:48.480
I<00:00:41.680> have<00:00:41.960> two<00:00:42.120> kids<00:00:43.080> and<00:00:43.520> I<00:00:43.680> couldn't<00:00:44.240> get<00:00:44.440> my<00:00:44.600> kids<00:00:45.000> to<00:00:45.160> and<00:00:45.320> from<00:00:45.640> school<00:00:46.120> and<00:00:46.360> and<00:00:46.520> after<00:00:46.760> school<00:00:46.960> activities.

00:00:48.480 --> 00:00:56.760
My<00:00:49.080> my<00:00:50.160> child<00:00:50.680> at<00:00:50.760> the<00:00:50.880> time<00:00:51.280> wanted<00:00:51.640> to<00:00:51.760> do<00:00:52.120> karate<00:00:52.760> on<00:00:52.920> Thursday<00:00:53.400> at<00:00:53.520> 3:00<00:00:54.080> and<00:00:54.280> I<00:00:54.360> had<00:00:54.600> no<00:00:54.720> way<00:00:54.880> of<00:00:55.000> getting<00:00:55.240> him<00:00:55.400> there<00:00:56.200> and<00:00:56.680> I

00:00:56.760 --> 00:01:04.920
didn't<00:00:57.000> need<00:00:57.160> a<00:00:57.240> nanny,<00:00:57.560> I<00:00:57.640> couldn't<00:00:57.880> afford<00:00:58.160> a<00:00:58.240> nanny,<00:00:58.640> I<00:00:58.760> literally<00:00:59.160> just<00:00:59.880> needed,<00:01:00.520> you<00:01:00.640> know,<00:01:00.800> somebody<00:01:01.480> to<00:01:01.680> get<00:01:01.840> him<00:01:02.080> 20<00:01:02.400> minutes<00:01:02.640> a<00:01:02.720> day,<00:01:03.520> you<00:01:03.600> know,<00:01:03.720> to<00:01:04.000> and<00:01:04.160> from

00:01:04.920 --> 00:01:10.160
these<00:01:05.160> things<00:01:05.680> and<00:01:06.800> I<00:01:07.320> I<00:01:07.920> came<00:01:08.160> together<00:01:08.480> with<00:01:08.640> two<00:01:08.800> other<00:01:09.000> women.

00:01:10.160 --> 00:01:17.200
We<00:01:10.320> have<00:01:10.520> eight<00:01:10.720> kids<00:01:11.000> between<00:01:11.440> us<00:01:11.720> and<00:01:11.880> we<00:01:12.000> were<00:01:12.160> all<00:01:12.440> just<00:01:12.640> really<00:01:12.920> dying<00:01:13.520> as<00:01:13.840> as<00:01:14.040> working<00:01:14.360> parents<00:01:14.880> and<00:01:15.040> we<00:01:15.160> figured<00:01:15.480> there<00:01:15.600> had<00:01:15.840> to<00:01:15.920> be<00:01:16.000> a<00:01:16.080> better<00:01:16.360> way.

00:01:17.200 --> 00:01:26.360
And<00:01:17.400> so<00:01:17.520> we<00:01:17.640> set<00:01:17.880> out<00:01:18.320> to<00:01:18.680> solve<00:01:19.200> our<00:01:19.440> problem<00:01:20.200> as<00:01:20.400> families<00:01:21.920> and<00:01:22.160> created<00:01:22.520> HopSkipDrive<00:01:23.320> which<00:01:23.480> is<00:01:23.640> a<00:01:23.760> ride-share<00:01:25.160> technology.

00:01:26.360 --> 00:01:34.720
We've<00:01:26.560> created<00:01:26.920> a<00:01:26.960> network<00:01:27.720> of<00:01:27.960> very<00:01:28.360> highly<00:01:28.800> vetted<00:01:29.440> drivers<00:01:30.000> that<00:01:30.160> we<00:01:30.320> call<00:01:30.560> care<00:01:30.880> drivers<00:01:31.920> and<00:01:32.080> really<00:01:32.400> built<00:01:32.920> a<00:01:33.000> whole<00:01:33.240> system<00:01:33.880> of<00:01:34.120> trust<00:01:34.560> and

00:01:34.720 --> 00:01:43.520
technology<00:01:35.400> to<00:01:35.600> get<00:01:35.840> kids<00:01:36.160> where<00:01:36.280> they<00:01:36.440> need<00:01:36.680> to<00:01:36.840> go<00:01:38.160> and<00:01:38.400> and<00:01:38.560> built<00:01:38.800> it<00:01:38.920> that<00:01:39.120> way<00:01:39.280> for<00:01:39.440> families<00:01:40.000> to<00:01:40.120> start<00:01:40.760> and<00:01:40.920> as<00:01:41.080> we<00:01:41.200> were<00:01:41.360> doing<00:01:41.760> that,<00:01:42.360> we<00:01:42.480> really<00:01:42.800> realized

00:01:43.520 --> 00:01:47.280
that<00:01:43.720> school<00:01:44.000> transportation<00:01:45.440> is<00:01:45.600> this<00:01:45.800> very<00:01:46.120> large<00:01:46.400> industry.

00:01:47.280 --> 00:01:54.880
$30<00:01:47.920> billion<00:01:48.280> are<00:01:48.440> spent<00:01:49.000> every<00:01:49.320> year<00:01:49.760> on<00:01:50.520> in<00:01:50.720> K-12<00:01:51.560> transportation<00:01:52.240> in<00:01:52.280> the<00:01:52.360> US,<00:01:53.280> but<00:01:53.440> it's<00:01:53.760> it's<00:01:53.960> really<00:01:54.200> broken.

00:01:54.880 --> 00:02:04.360
It's<00:01:55.280> it<00:01:55.440> hasn't<00:01:55.800> changed<00:01:56.400> all<00:01:56.560> that<00:01:56.760> much<00:01:57.160> from<00:01:57.680> the<00:01:57.800> '70s,<00:01:58.480> the<00:01:58.680> '50s,<00:01:59.160> and<00:01:59.240> the<00:01:59.280> '60s,<00:01:59.880> and<00:02:00.120> and<00:02:00.280> it's<00:02:00.440> really<00:02:00.640> trying<00:02:01.000> to<00:02:01.200> use<00:02:02.120> a<00:02:02.200> 72-passenger<00:02:03.440> vehicle

00:02:04.360 --> 00:02:08.520
as<00:02:04.520> a<00:02:04.600> one-size-fits-all<00:02:05.680> solution,<00:02:06.800> but<00:02:06.920> our<00:02:07.000> education<00:02:07.520> system<00:02:07.880> has<00:02:08.039> changed.

00:02:08.520 --> 00:02:17.280
Our<00:02:08.640> needs<00:02:09.160> have<00:02:09.320> changed.<00:02:10.280> And<00:02:10.720> as<00:02:10.920> we<00:02:11.080> see<00:02:11.600> across<00:02:12.720> all<00:02:12.959> forms<00:02:13.360> of<00:02:13.480> transportation,<00:02:14.640> having<00:02:15.000> multimodal<00:02:15.959> transportation,<00:02:16.800> having

00:02:17.280 --> 00:02:23.840

00:02:23.840 --> 00:02:32.720
And<00:02:23.959> so,<00:02:24.040> that's<00:02:24.240> what<00:02:24.320> we<00:02:24.440> do.<00:02:24.680> We<00:02:24.880> help<00:02:25.200> school<00:02:25.480> districts<00:02:26.080> solve<00:02:26.480> this<00:02:26.760> by<00:02:26.959> creating<00:02:27.959> a<00:02:28.080> multimodal<00:02:29.440> option<00:02:30.000> for<00:02:30.160> them<00:02:30.520> where<00:02:30.640> they<00:02:30.800> can<00:02:31.120> use<00:02:31.920> access

00:02:32.720 --> 00:02:41.680
drivers<00:02:33.520> who<00:02:33.640> are<00:02:33.800> using<00:02:34.080> their<00:02:34.280> own<00:02:34.440> personal<00:02:34.920> vehicles,<00:02:36.080> as<00:02:36.360> well<00:02:36.800> as<00:02:37.360> their<00:02:37.560> school<00:02:37.840> buses<00:02:38.560> and<00:02:38.720> other<00:02:38.959> options<00:02:39.480> to<00:02:39.600> make<00:02:39.800> sure<00:02:39.959> the<00:02:40.080> kids<00:02:40.320> can<00:02:40.440> get<00:02:40.600> to<00:02:40.680> school.

00:02:41.680 --> 00:02:47.040
So,<00:02:41.760> in<00:02:41.880> some<00:02:42.040> ways<00:02:42.240> it's<00:02:42.400> like<00:02:42.640> the<00:02:42.880> Uber<00:02:43.360> for<00:02:44.680> school<00:02:45.080> transportation.

00:02:47.040 --> 00:02:50.360
Yeah,<00:02:47.240> I<00:02:47.360> never<00:02:47.680> say<00:02:47.840> that.<00:02:48.240> I<00:02:48.360> always<00:02:48.640> say<00:02:48.840> caregivers<00:02:49.400> on<00:02:49.600> wheels.

00:02:50.360 --> 00:02:53.520
Um<00:02:50.760> we<00:02:51.000> are<00:02:51.200> we<00:02:51.360> are<00:02:51.480> licensed<00:02:52.400> like<00:02:52.760> Uber<00:02:52.959> and<00:02:53.120> Lyft.

00:02:53.520 --> 00:03:00.840
We<00:02:53.680> are<00:02:53.840> a<00:02:53.920> transportation<00:02:54.680> network<00:02:55.080> company,<00:02:56.040> and<00:02:56.200> we've<00:02:56.400> created<00:02:56.840> this<00:02:57.040> large<00:02:57.600> network<00:02:58.040> of<00:02:58.240> of<00:02:58.440> independent<00:02:59.200> contractors.

00:03:00.840 --> 00:03:04.560
Um<00:03:01.120> but<00:03:01.480> really<00:03:01.720> that's<00:03:02.120> where<00:03:02.480> the<00:03:02.600> similarities<00:03:03.680> stop,<00:03:04.280> right?

00:03:04.560 --> 00:03:12.400
We<00:03:04.680> designed<00:03:05.360> this<00:03:05.720> from<00:03:06.040> the<00:03:06.120> beginning<00:03:07.120> with<00:03:07.280> the<00:03:07.440> idea<00:03:07.959> that<00:03:08.320> the<00:03:08.440> person<00:03:08.840> in<00:03:08.920> the<00:03:09.000> vehicle<00:03:09.440> is<00:03:09.560> not<00:03:09.800> the<00:03:09.880> person<00:03:10.200> that<00:03:10.320> arranged<00:03:10.640> the<00:03:10.760> ride<00:03:11.600> is<00:03:11.760> a<00:03:11.840> little<00:03:12.080> bit<00:03:12.239> more

00:03:12.400 --> 00:03:17.360
vulnerable,<00:03:13.440> may<00:03:13.720> or<00:03:13.840> may<00:03:14.000> not<00:03:14.320> have<00:03:14.519> a<00:03:14.640> phone,<00:03:15.600> and<00:03:15.800> really<00:03:16.080> what<00:03:16.320> does<00:03:16.519> that<00:03:16.760> look<00:03:16.959> like?

00:03:17.360 --> 00:03:25.200
And<00:03:17.613> and<00:03:17.866> really,<00:03:18.119> you<00:03:18.371> know,<00:03:18.624> from<00:03:18.877> the<00:03:19.130> ground<00:03:19.383> up<00:03:19.636> built<00:03:19.889> it<00:03:20.141> with<00:03:20.394> the<00:03:20.647> question<00:03:20.900> of<00:03:21.153> what<00:03:21.406> would<00:03:21.659> I<00:03:21.911> need<00:03:22.164> to<00:03:22.417> see<00:03:22.670> to<00:03:22.923> put<00:03:23.176> Jackson<00:03:23.429> or<00:03:23.681> Sam<00:03:23.934> in<00:03:24.187> a<00:03:24.440> HopSkipDrive.

00:03:25.200 --> 00:03:28.400
And<00:03:25.360> so,<00:03:25.519> designed<00:03:26.320> all<00:03:26.640> of<00:03:26.760> this<00:03:27.040> safety<00:03:27.480> around<00:03:27.920> it.

00:03:28.400 --> 00:03:31.200
And<00:03:28.519> that<00:03:28.760> starts<00:03:29.280> with<00:03:29.760> who<00:03:30.000> care<00:03:30.200> drivers<00:03:30.640> are.

00:03:31.200 --> 00:03:35.000
They<00:03:31.400> have<00:03:31.760> to<00:03:31.880> have<00:03:32.040> caregiving<00:03:32.680> experience<00:03:33.600> to<00:03:33.720> be<00:03:33.840> on<00:03:33.959> our<00:03:34.040> platform.

00:03:35.000 --> 00:03:38.040
On<00:03:35.280> average,<00:03:35.680> they<00:03:35.760> have<00:03:35.880> about<00:03:36.120> 10<00:03:36.519> years<00:03:36.880> of<00:03:37.000> caregiving<00:03:37.480> experience.

00:03:38.040 --> 00:03:43.600
So,<00:03:38.120> these<00:03:38.280> are<00:03:38.360> people<00:03:38.680> who<00:03:38.920> are<00:03:39.080> used<00:03:39.519> to<00:03:39.720> working<00:03:40.120> with<00:03:40.640> with<00:03:40.840> kids,<00:03:41.360> with<00:03:41.600> empathy,<00:03:42.280> with<00:03:42.519> judgment.

00:03:43.600 --> 00:03:46.560
They<00:03:43.800> are<00:03:43.959> background<00:03:44.560> checked.<00:03:44.959> You<00:03:45.040> know,<00:03:45.120> we<00:03:45.239> do<00:03:45.440> fingerprint<00:03:46.040> checks.

00:03:46.560 --> 00:03:53.000
We<00:03:46.760> do<00:03:47.040> vehicle<00:03:47.440> inspections.<00:03:48.200> We<00:03:48.320> we<00:03:48.480> do<00:03:48.600> a<00:03:48.680> 15-point<00:03:49.680> check<00:03:50.440> that<00:03:50.560> goes<00:03:50.800> above<00:03:51.239> and<00:03:51.400> beyond<00:03:51.959> what<00:03:52.080> anyone<00:03:52.400> else<00:03:52.640> does.

00:03:53.000 --> 00:03:55.760
We<00:03:53.160> video<00:03:53.560> screen<00:03:54.200> every<00:03:54.560> single<00:03:54.880> driver.

00:03:55.760 --> 00:04:04.200
So,<00:03:55.880> we<00:03:56.000> start<00:03:56.440> there<00:03:56.720> with<00:03:57.320> who<00:03:57.480> drivers<00:03:57.960> are<00:03:58.200> on<00:03:58.320> the<00:03:58.400> platform,<00:03:59.400> but<00:03:59.560> then<00:03:59.760> we<00:03:59.920> have<00:04:00.160> built<00:04:00.480> what<00:04:00.640> we<00:04:00.760> call<00:04:01.040> our<00:04:01.200> safe<00:04:01.520> ride<00:04:01.760> technology,<00:04:02.960> which<00:04:03.120> is<00:04:03.240> a<00:04:03.280> series<00:04:03.960> of

00:04:04.200 --> 00:04:12.080
proactive<00:04:05.000> alerts<00:04:05.760> and<00:04:05.960> GPS<00:04:07.080> and<00:04:07.240> a<00:04:07.320> team<00:04:08.080> our<00:04:08.200> safe<00:04:08.480> ride<00:04:08.640> support<00:04:09.040> team<00:04:09.320> is<00:04:09.440> monitoring<00:04:10.160> every<00:04:10.520> ride<00:04:10.880> live<00:04:11.160> in<00:04:11.280> real<00:04:11.480> time.

00:04:12.080 --> 00:04:18.359
And<00:04:12.280> so,<00:04:12.959> you<00:04:13.040> know,<00:04:13.120> if<00:04:13.200> a<00:04:13.240> driver<00:04:13.840> is<00:04:13.959> going<00:04:14.200> to<00:04:14.360> be<00:04:14.520> late<00:04:15.040> to<00:04:15.200> school<00:04:15.520> pick<00:04:15.840> up,<00:04:16.480> that's<00:04:16.760> a<00:04:16.840> safety<00:04:17.640> problem,<00:04:18.160> right?

00:04:18.359 --> 00:04:21.920
Because<00:04:18.519> that<00:04:18.640> might<00:04:18.799> be<00:04:18.920> a<00:04:19.000> child<00:04:20.200> who<00:04:20.320> is<00:04:20.519> waiting<00:04:21.040> by<00:04:21.200> themselves.

00:04:21.920 --> 00:04:24.919
That's<00:04:22.120> very<00:04:22.400> different<00:04:23.400> than<00:04:23.560> how<00:04:23.800> Uber<00:04:24.040> and<00:04:24.120> Lyft<00:04:24.360> operate.

00:04:24.919 --> 00:04:33.400
And<00:04:25.080> so,<00:04:25.240> we<00:04:25.440> are<00:04:25.560> monitoring<00:04:26.080> that.<00:04:26.400> We<00:04:26.520> are<00:04:26.640> communicating<00:04:27.680> and<00:04:27.840> providing<00:04:28.400> full<00:04:28.720> transparency<00:04:30.200> full<00:04:30.520> transparency<00:04:32.000> and<00:04:32.200> visibility<00:04:33.240> to

00:04:33.400 --> 00:04:36.760
the<00:04:33.520> school,<00:04:34.480> to<00:04:34.640> the<00:04:34.760> parents<00:04:35.480> and<00:04:35.640> caregivers.

00:04:36.760 --> 00:04:45.440
Our<00:04:36.960> team<00:04:37.440> is<00:04:37.600> monitoring<00:04:38.160> that.<00:04:38.760> And<00:04:38.919> so,<00:04:39.240> everything<00:04:40.520> is<00:04:40.680> really<00:04:40.960> wrapped<00:04:41.440> around<00:04:42.120> this<00:04:42.440> safe<00:04:42.800> ride<00:04:43.040> experience<00:04:43.680> that<00:04:43.840> makes<00:04:44.160> it<00:04:44.400> a<00:04:44.480> very<00:04:45.160> very

00:04:45.440 --> 00:04:48.360
different<00:04:45.800> model.<00:04:46.800> And<00:04:46.919> uh<00:04:46.960> schools<00:04:47.320> love<00:04:47.560> that,<00:04:48.040> right?

00:04:48.360 --> 00:04:53.240
Like<00:04:48.880> you<00:04:49.040> and<00:04:49.200> I<00:04:49.360> I<00:04:49.480> can<00:04:49.640> order<00:04:49.880> pizza<00:04:50.480> and<00:04:50.680> watch<00:04:51.000> my<00:04:51.120> pizza<00:04:51.560> get<00:04:51.720> delivered<00:04:52.160> to<00:04:52.280> me.

00:04:53.240 --> 00:04:56.680
Most<00:04:53.680> school<00:04:53.919> buses<00:04:54.360> today<00:04:54.800> don't<00:04:55.240> have<00:04:55.480> that<00:04:55.680> technology.

00:04:56.680 --> 00:05:01.160
Most<00:04:57.120> They're<00:04:57.280> They're<00:04:57.880> getting<00:04:58.240> there,<00:04:59.040> but<00:04:59.240> parents<00:04:59.640> don't<00:04:59.880> have<00:05:00.000> any<00:05:00.200> idea<00:05:00.440> where<00:05:00.560> their<00:05:00.680> kids<00:05:01.000> are.

00:05:01.160 --> 00:05:04.280
With<00:05:01.400> our<00:05:01.680> app,<00:05:02.240> there's<00:05:02.560> full<00:05:02.840> visibility<00:05:03.360> and<00:05:03.480> transparency.

00:05:04.280 --> 00:05:12.160
Parents<00:05:04.720> know<00:05:05.040> who<00:05:05.200> the<00:05:05.320> driver<00:05:05.760> is,<00:05:05.960> they<00:05:06.080> know<00:05:06.400> where<00:05:06.560> their<00:05:06.720> child<00:05:07.240> is,<00:05:07.440> they<00:05:07.520> know<00:05:07.680> exactly<00:05:08.240> what's<00:05:08.480> happening,<00:05:09.480> and<00:05:09.600> it<00:05:09.720> just<00:05:09.919> creates<00:05:10.320> peace<00:05:10.640> of<00:05:10.840> mind<00:05:11.760> across

00:05:12.160 --> 00:05:18.720
the<00:05:12.280> board.<00:05:13.880> Yeah,<00:05:14.120> which<00:05:14.440> is<00:05:15.040> unbelievable<00:05:16.400> if<00:05:16.680> you<00:05:16.919> have<00:05:17.280> a<00:05:17.320> child<00:05:17.800> who<00:05:17.960> needs<00:05:18.280> this,<00:05:18.520> right?

00:05:18.720 --> 00:05:21.800
Like<00:05:18.960> I<00:05:19.000> mean,<00:05:19.720> child<00:05:20.000> child<00:05:20.200> transportation<00:05:20.760> is<00:05:20.880> such<00:05:21.160> a<00:05:21.200> huge<00:05:21.480> deal.

00:05:21.800 --> 00:05:26.320
I'm<00:05:21.919> not<00:05:22.120> sure<00:05:22.280> like<00:05:22.480> as<00:05:22.640> a<00:05:22.680> parent<00:05:23.200> as<00:05:23.320> somebody<00:05:23.600> who's<00:05:24.040> who<00:05:24.160> goes<00:05:24.480> through<00:05:24.640> this,<00:05:24.880> I<00:05:24.919> have<00:05:25.040> four<00:05:25.240> kids.

00:05:26.320 --> 00:05:28.440
Um<00:05:26.680> getting<00:05:26.960> them<00:05:27.200> to<00:05:27.440> and<00:05:27.560> from<00:05:27.880> school.

00:05:28.440 --> 00:05:34.720
I<00:05:28.480> have<00:05:28.640> one<00:05:28.919> my<00:05:29.160> my<00:05:29.360> youngest<00:05:29.760> kid<00:05:29.919> actually<00:05:30.240> is<00:05:30.440> a<00:05:30.520> special<00:05:30.880> needs<00:05:31.400> uh<00:05:32.240> and<00:05:32.480> uh<00:05:32.520> figuring<00:05:33.000> all<00:05:33.120> of<00:05:33.200> that<00:05:33.400> out<00:05:33.520> is<00:05:33.680> such<00:05:33.960> a<00:05:34.040> big<00:05:34.280> deal.

00:05:34.720 --> 00:05:38.120
So,<00:05:35.800> um<00:05:36.480> thank<00:05:36.800> you<00:05:37.240> for<00:05:37.400> what<00:05:37.560> you're<00:05:37.680> building.

00:05:38.120 --> 00:05:41.160
It's<00:05:38.360> It's<00:05:38.560> actually<00:05:39.000> a<00:05:39.560> really<00:05:39.840> remarkable.

00:05:41.160 --> 00:05:44.120
And<00:05:41.720> at<00:05:42.280> what<00:05:42.480> point<00:05:42.640> did<00:05:42.800> you<00:05:42.880> realize,<00:05:43.160> "Hey,<00:05:43.280> we're<00:05:43.480> onto<00:05:43.760> something."

00:05:44.120 --> 00:05:52.520
At<00:05:44.240> what<00:05:44.360> point<00:05:44.560> did<00:05:44.680> it<00:05:44.800> start<00:05:45.040> working?<00:05:46.600> Yeah,<00:05:47.000> it<00:05:47.160> was<00:05:47.440> you<00:05:47.560> know,<00:05:48.200> what<00:05:48.400> was<00:05:48.560> interesting<00:05:49.480> is<00:05:50.120> and<00:05:50.320> and<00:05:50.480> you<00:05:50.560> mentioned<00:05:50.920> special<00:05:51.280> needs<00:05:52.120> kids

00:05:52.520 --> 00:05:59.240
and<00:05:52.600> we<00:05:52.680> should<00:05:52.840> talk<00:05:53.040> about<00:05:53.280> the<00:05:53.400> populations<00:05:54.240> that<00:05:54.400> HopSkipDrive<00:05:55.120> serves<00:05:55.560> because<00:05:55.840> I<00:05:55.920> think<00:05:56.160> that<00:05:56.320> is<00:05:57.000> really<00:05:57.200> interesting<00:05:57.600> and<00:05:57.680> what<00:05:57.800> most<00:05:58.040> families<00:05:58.480> don't<00:05:58.960> always

00:05:59.240 --> 00:06:07.680
think<00:05:59.440> about.<00:06:00.280> Um,<00:06:00.880> but<00:06:01.120> you<00:06:01.200> know,<00:06:01.320> what's<00:06:01.720> really<00:06:01.920> interesting<00:06:02.480> is<00:06:02.920> um<00:06:03.680> when<00:06:03.920> we<00:06:04.040> were<00:06:04.160> still<00:06:04.440> a<00:06:04.520> consumer<00:06:05.040> business<00:06:06.160> um<00:06:07.120> you<00:06:07.360> LA

00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:14.720
County<00:06:08.840> was<00:06:09.080> trying<00:06:09.680> to<00:06:09.960> think<00:06:10.400> about<00:06:11.360> how<00:06:11.520> to<00:06:11.640> be<00:06:11.760> in<00:06:11.840> compliance<00:06:12.400> with<00:06:12.640> federal<00:06:13.040> laws<00:06:13.560> around<00:06:13.920> foster<00:06:14.360> youth.

00:06:14.720 --> 00:06:21.680
So,<00:06:14.920> foster<00:06:15.440> youth<00:06:15.800> have<00:06:16.120> the<00:06:16.240> federal<00:06:16.880> right<00:06:17.600> to<00:06:17.760> stay<00:06:18.000> at<00:06:18.120> their<00:06:18.280> school<00:06:19.240> regardless<00:06:19.840> of<00:06:19.919> their<00:06:20.080> housing<00:06:20.440> situation.

00:06:21.680 --> 00:06:24.280
Think<00:06:21.840> about<00:06:22.080> this.<00:06:22.240> You<00:06:22.320> have<00:06:22.400> a<00:06:22.480> kid<00:06:22.720> who's<00:06:22.919> in<00:06:23.040> foster<00:06:23.400> care.

00:06:24.280 --> 00:06:27.760
They've<00:06:24.520> now<00:06:24.720> moved<00:06:25.200> home<00:06:25.400> placements.<00:06:26.360> They<00:06:26.480> might<00:06:26.680> have<00:06:26.800> moved<00:06:27.000> far<00:06:27.160> away.

00:06:27.760 --> 00:06:33.240
Here<00:06:27.919> in<00:06:28.000> LA,<00:06:28.320> one<00:06:28.560> out<00:06:28.680> of<00:06:28.760> every<00:06:29.000> three<00:06:29.200> kids<00:06:29.520> moves<00:06:29.760> to<00:06:29.840> Antelope<00:06:30.160> Valley,<00:06:30.480> which<00:06:30.640> is<00:06:30.800> like<00:06:31.040> 45<00:06:31.600> miles<00:06:31.880> away.

00:06:33.240 --> 00:06:36.120
Every<00:06:33.560> source<00:06:33.840> of<00:06:33.919> stability<00:06:34.400> that<00:06:34.560> this<00:06:34.720> kid<00:06:34.960> has<00:06:35.360> is<00:06:35.480> gone.

00:06:36.120 --> 00:06:42.720
They're<00:06:36.280> in<00:06:36.360> a<00:06:36.400> new<00:06:36.640> home,<00:06:37.240> they're<00:06:37.440> in<00:06:37.520> a<00:06:37.560> new<00:06:38.320> they<00:06:38.520> may<00:06:38.880> have<00:06:39.080> been<00:06:39.200> told<00:06:39.600> like<00:06:39.800> you<00:06:39.880> have<00:06:39.960> 20<00:06:40.240> minutes,<00:06:40.480> get<00:06:40.600> a<00:06:40.640> trash<00:06:41.000> bag,<00:06:41.240> pack<00:06:41.480> your<00:06:41.600> stuff<00:06:41.880> and<00:06:42.040> go.

00:06:42.720 --> 00:06:46.919
The<00:06:42.880> one<00:06:43.320> source<00:06:43.640> of<00:06:43.760> stability<00:06:44.360> that<00:06:44.560> they<00:06:44.720> might<00:06:45.000> have<00:06:45.160> in<00:06:45.240> their<00:06:45.400> lives<00:06:45.760> is<00:06:45.880> their<00:06:46.000> school.

00:06:46.919 --> 00:06:49.560
They<00:06:47.080> know<00:06:47.240> their<00:06:47.400> teacher,<00:06:48.040> they<00:06:48.160> have<00:06:48.400> friends<00:06:48.880> there.

00:06:49.560 --> 00:06:54.160
And<00:06:49.720> so<00:06:49.919> this<00:06:50.160> law<00:06:50.560> this<00:06:51.120> this<00:06:51.320> mandate<00:06:51.840> says<00:06:52.040> these<00:06:52.200> kids<00:06:52.440> have<00:06:52.560> the<00:06:52.680> right<00:06:52.919> to<00:06:53.040> stay<00:06:53.200> at<00:06:53.280> their<00:06:53.440> school,<00:06:53.960> right?

00:06:54.160 --> 00:07:01.600
That's<00:06:54.400> really<00:06:54.840> important<00:06:55.240> for<00:06:55.320> these<00:06:55.560> kids.<00:06:55.960> And<00:06:56.080> by<00:06:56.160> the<00:06:56.280> way,<00:06:56.440> every<00:06:56.680> time<00:06:56.960> you<00:06:57.600> move<00:06:57.919> schools,<00:06:58.840> your<00:06:59.160> odds<00:06:59.440> of<00:06:59.560> graduating<00:07:00.200> just<00:07:00.480> plummet,<00:07:01.320> right?

00:07:01.600 --> 00:07:07.880
Because<00:07:01.880> of<00:07:02.000> the<00:07:02.360> because<00:07:02.760> of<00:07:02.840> this<00:07:03.000> instability<00:07:03.720> and<00:07:04.160> different<00:07:04.480> schools<00:07:04.880> teach<00:07:05.240> different<00:07:05.600> things<00:07:05.960> in<00:07:06.040> different<00:07:06.360> grades.

00:07:07.880 --> 00:07:10.320
Transportation<00:07:08.600> is<00:07:08.720> one<00:07:08.840> of<00:07:08.880> the<00:07:08.960> biggest<00:07:09.280> obstacles<00:07:09.840> to<00:07:09.960> that.

00:07:10.320 --> 00:07:15.800
How<00:07:10.440> are<00:07:10.520> you<00:07:10.600> going<00:07:10.720> to<00:07:10.800> get<00:07:10.960> this<00:07:11.160> kid<00:07:11.400> there?<00:07:12.080> The<00:07:12.160> kid<00:07:12.400> moves<00:07:12.640> at<00:07:12.760> 10:30<00:07:13.160> at<00:07:13.240> night,<00:07:13.480> you<00:07:13.560> can't<00:07:13.840> reroute<00:07:14.120> a<00:07:14.200> school<00:07:14.480> bus<00:07:14.800> for<00:07:14.960> this<00:07:15.160> kid.

00:07:15.800 --> 00:07:20.440
HopSkipDrive<00:07:16.600> can<00:07:16.720> get<00:07:16.840> them<00:07:16.960> to<00:07:17.080> school<00:07:17.280> the<00:07:17.360> next<00:07:17.600> day<00:07:17.760> with<00:07:17.960> no<00:07:18.360> interruption<00:07:19.000> in<00:07:19.120> their<00:07:19.240> schooling.

00:07:20.440 --> 00:07:25.720
And<00:07:20.560> so<00:07:20.720> as<00:07:20.960> we<00:07:21.080> were<00:07:21.160> a<00:07:21.240> consumer<00:07:21.680> business,<00:07:21.960> there<00:07:22.080> was<00:07:22.240> a<00:07:22.320> woman<00:07:22.800> who<00:07:22.960> worked<00:07:23.240> in<00:07:23.320> the<00:07:23.440> county<00:07:23.919> who<00:07:24.160> used<00:07:24.480> us<00:07:24.640> for<00:07:24.760> her<00:07:24.880> daughter.

00:07:25.720 --> 00:07:33.800
She<00:07:25.919> was<00:07:26.080> trying<00:07:26.480> to<00:07:26.680> solve<00:07:27.000> this<00:07:27.200> problem<00:07:28.160> for<00:07:28.520> LA<00:07:28.880> child<00:07:29.280> welfare<00:07:30.320> and<00:07:30.560> and<00:07:30.840> she<00:07:31.080> kind<00:07:31.280> of<00:07:31.360> helped<00:07:31.640> connect<00:07:31.919> these<00:07:32.120> dots<00:07:32.520> and<00:07:32.600> said,<00:07:32.760> "Hey,<00:07:32.960> I<00:07:33.040> think<00:07:33.360> this<00:07:33.520> could<00:07:33.680> be

a<00:07:33.880> real<00:07:34.120> solution."<00:07:34.760> And<00:07:34.919> and<00:07:35.080> we<00:07:35.200> started<00:07:35.640> meeting<00:07:35.919> with<00:07:36.080> them<00:07:36.320> and<00:07:36.440> so<00:07:36.480> it<00:07:36.560> was<00:07:36.640> a<00:07:36.680> great<00:07:36.960> example<00:07:37.440> of<00:07:37.560> how<00:07:38.320> being<00:07:38.600> a<00:07:38.680> consumer<00:07:39.120> business<00:07:39.440> and<00:07:39.560> building<00:07:39.880> that<00:07:40.080> brand

00:07:40.960 --> 00:07:48.920
really<00:07:41.240> led<00:07:41.720> to<00:07:41.840> this<00:07:42.080> B2B<00:07:43.040> experience<00:07:43.960> and<00:07:44.120> and<00:07:44.320> led<00:07:44.560> to<00:07:44.680> us<00:07:44.920> realizing<00:07:45.640> that<00:07:45.960> there<00:07:46.080> was<00:07:46.240> this<00:07:46.400> huge<00:07:46.640> opportunity<00:07:47.280> and<00:07:47.360> this<00:07:47.520> huge<00:07:47.880> need.

00:07:48.920 --> 00:07:51.840
Um<00:07:49.400> and<00:07:49.520> then<00:07:49.600> we<00:07:49.680> started<00:07:50.000> working<00:07:50.240> with<00:07:50.400> school<00:07:50.680> districts.

00:07:51.840 --> 00:08:00.400
And<00:07:52.240> and<00:07:52.360> what<00:07:52.520> we<00:07:52.640> see<00:07:52.840> is<00:07:53.080> kind<00:07:53.280> of<00:07:53.360> the<00:07:53.440> most<00:07:53.680> vulnerable<00:07:54.200> populations,<00:07:55.000> the<00:07:55.080> ones<00:07:55.320> that<00:07:55.480> most<00:07:55.960> need<00:07:56.440> service<00:07:56.960> are<00:07:57.200> the<00:07:57.360> least<00:07:57.720> likely<00:07:58.680> to<00:07:58.840> be<00:07:59.000> able<00:07:59.320> to<00:07:59.480> be<00:07:59.600> served

00:08:00.400 --> 00:08:03.840
by<00:08:00.560> a<00:08:00.640> school<00:08:00.920> bus.<00:08:01.600> It's<00:08:01.840> foster<00:08:02.320> youth,<00:08:02.720> homeless<00:08:03.320> youth.

00:08:03.840 --> 00:08:09.320
These<00:08:04.040> kids<00:08:04.280> are<00:08:04.400> moving<00:08:04.880> all<00:08:05.080> the<00:08:05.200> time<00:08:06.080> and<00:08:06.160> it's<00:08:06.360> really<00:08:06.680> hard<00:08:06.960> to<00:08:07.080> keep<00:08:07.320> up<00:08:07.480> with<00:08:07.600> them<00:08:07.800> on<00:08:07.920> a<00:08:08.000> fixed<00:08:08.400> bus<00:08:08.720> route.

00:08:09.320 --> 00:08:14.560
Students<00:08:09.680> with<00:08:09.800> special<00:08:10.280> needs,<00:08:11.000> as<00:08:11.240> you<00:08:11.400> mentioned,<00:08:12.320> they<00:08:12.480> they<00:08:12.680> may<00:08:12.800> not<00:08:12.960> be<00:08:13.080> going<00:08:13.320> to<00:08:13.400> their<00:08:13.560> home<00:08:13.800> school,<00:08:14.320> right?

00:08:14.560 --> 00:08:18.480
They<00:08:14.680> may<00:08:14.840> need<00:08:15.120> to<00:08:15.240> go<00:08:15.400> to<00:08:15.560> a<00:08:15.640> different<00:08:16.040> school<00:08:16.360> to<00:08:16.480> meet<00:08:16.760> their<00:08:16.919> services.

00:08:18.480 --> 00:08:26.200
It<00:08:18.560> doesn't<00:08:18.800> make<00:08:18.960> sense<00:08:19.200> to<00:08:19.280> put<00:08:19.520> one<00:08:19.760> kid<00:08:20.000> on<00:08:20.120> a<00:08:20.160> 72<00:08:20.640> passenger<00:08:21.120> bus<00:08:21.480> and<00:08:21.680> send<00:08:21.880> that<00:08:22.040> bus<00:08:22.280> across<00:08:22.880> the<00:08:23.000> county<00:08:23.960> when<00:08:24.280> we<00:08:24.400> have<00:08:24.520> a<00:08:24.600> bus<00:08:24.800> driver<00:08:25.080> shortage<00:08:25.800> and<00:08:25.960> and<00:08:26.080> you

00:08:26.200 --> 00:08:29.560
might<00:08:26.440> have<00:08:26.840> 50<00:08:27.120> kids<00:08:27.440> over<00:08:27.640> here<00:08:27.919> who<00:08:28.040> need<00:08:28.280> to<00:08:28.400> be<00:08:28.480> on<00:08:28.600> that<00:08:28.760> bus.

00:08:29.560 --> 00:08:38.320
And<00:08:29.720> so<00:08:29.880> using<00:08:30.280> a<00:08:30.360> service<00:08:30.720> like<00:08:30.919> HopSkipDrive<00:08:32.080> helps<00:08:32.880> balance<00:08:33.479> the<00:08:33.599> system<00:08:34.280> and<00:08:34.400> get<00:08:34.640> everybody's<00:08:35.200> needs<00:08:35.640> met<00:08:36.400> in<00:08:36.520> a<00:08:36.599> way<00:08:36.760> that<00:08:36.919> ensures<00:08:37.479> access<00:08:38.200> to

00:08:38.320 --> 00:08:42.039
education.<00:08:39.479> And<00:08:39.640> don't<00:08:39.840> keep<00:08:40.080> the<00:08:40.159> kid<00:08:40.320> on<00:08:40.400> the<00:08:40.479> bus<00:08:40.719> for<00:08:40.840> 3<00:08:41.080> hours,<00:08:41.680> right?

00:08:42.039 --> 00:08:49.520
Like<00:08:42.200> that<00:08:42.400> that<00:08:42.560> was<00:08:42.680> something<00:08:42.919> that<00:08:43.080> we<00:08:43.240> bumped<00:08:43.599> into<00:08:43.960> is<00:08:44.039> because<00:08:44.240> we<00:08:44.400> did<00:08:44.600> have<00:08:44.720> to<00:08:44.800> send<00:08:45.040> our<00:08:45.160> kid<00:08:46.080> um<00:08:46.480> our<00:08:46.640> son<00:08:47.560> uh<00:08:47.640> outside<00:08:48.000> of<00:08:48.320> the<00:08:48.480> school<00:08:48.839> that<00:08:48.960> he<00:08:49.040> would<00:08:49.160> normally

00:08:49.520 --> 00:08:54.760
go<00:08:49.720> to<00:08:50.680> and<00:08:51.240> they<00:08:51.400> did<00:08:51.640> provide<00:08:51.920> a<00:08:51.960> bus,<00:08:52.240> but<00:08:52.360> then<00:08:52.480> they're<00:08:52.600> like<00:08:52.760> he'd<00:08:52.880> be<00:08:53.000> on<00:08:53.120> there<00:08:53.240> for<00:08:53.320> like<00:08:53.480> 2<00:08:53.600> and<00:08:53.720> 1/2<00:08:53.920> hours.

00:08:54.760 --> 00:08:57.960
Like<00:08:55.160> the<00:08:55.240> morning<00:08:55.520> and<00:08:55.640> 2<00:08:55.720> and<00:08:55.800> 1/2<00:08:55.960> hours<00:08:56.160> and<00:08:56.280> I<00:08:56.320> was<00:08:56.400> like<00:08:56.640> like<00:08:56.839> we're<00:08:56.960> not<00:08:57.120> doing<00:08:57.280> that.

00:08:57.960 --> 00:09:02.000
And<00:08:58.080> is<00:08:58.160> he<00:08:58.280> going<00:08:58.400> to<00:08:58.520> show<00:08:58.800> up<00:08:59.480> calm<00:09:00.120> and<00:09:00.280> regulated<00:09:00.880> and<00:09:01.200> ready<00:09:01.320> to<00:09:01.440> learn?

00:09:02.000 --> 00:09:04.120
No.<00:09:03.400> It's<00:09:03.560> crazy.

00:09:04.120 --> 00:09:12.080

00:12:59.280 --> 00:13:07.600
If<00:12:59.440> that's<00:12:59.640> what<00:12:59.760> you<00:12:59.839> want<00:12:59.960> to<00:13:00.040> do,<00:13:00.680> great.<00:13:01.320> Here's<00:13:01.960> five<00:13:02.360> other<00:13:02.600> solutions<00:13:03.320> that<00:13:03.520> meet<00:13:03.800> the<00:13:03.880> intent<00:13:04.320> of<00:13:04.440> what<00:13:04.600> you<00:13:04.720> want<00:13:04.960> to<00:13:05.120> do<00:13:05.800> and<00:13:05.920> are<00:13:06.000> cost-neutral.

00:13:07.600 --> 00:13:15.440
That's<00:13:07.880> real<00:13:08.040> power<00:13:08.520> for<00:13:08.720> a<00:13:08.760> school<00:13:09.320> and<00:13:09.440> a<00:13:09.480> school<00:13:09.800> board<00:13:10.560> and<00:13:10.760> a<00:13:10.800> director<00:13:11.200> of<00:13:11.280> transportation<00:13:12.080> to<00:13:12.200> be<00:13:12.320> able<00:13:12.520> to<00:13:12.640> understand<00:13:13.320> the<00:13:13.440> impact<00:13:13.839> of<00:13:13.920> those<00:13:14.160> decisions.

00:13:15.440 --> 00:13:23.600
Um,<00:13:15.960> we<00:13:16.080> can<00:13:16.240> also<00:13:16.480> use<00:13:16.680> it<00:13:16.800> to<00:13:16.920> help<00:13:17.160> them<00:13:17.360> see<00:13:17.640> how<00:13:17.960> a<00:13:18.040> multimodal<00:13:18.720> system<00:13:19.520> will<00:13:19.760> reduce<00:13:20.160> cost,<00:13:20.880> will<00:13:21.000> reduce<00:13:21.440> time<00:13:21.760> in<00:13:21.839> transit,<00:13:22.800> will<00:13:22.960> mean<00:13:23.240> that,<00:13:23.520> you

00:13:23.600 --> 00:13:28.600
know,<00:13:23.760> your<00:13:23.920> students<00:13:24.240> with<00:13:24.320> special<00:13:24.640> needs<00:13:24.960> don't<00:13:25.240> need<00:13:25.400> to<00:13:25.480> be<00:13:25.600> on<00:13:25.680> the<00:13:25.760> bus<00:13:26.000> for<00:13:26.160> 3<00:13:26.440> hours,<00:13:26.839> and<00:13:27.000> here's<00:13:27.240> how<00:13:27.360> to<00:13:27.520> do<00:13:27.760> that.

00:13:28.600 --> 00:13:35.480
Um,<00:13:29.000> and<00:13:29.160> so<00:13:29.240> we're<00:13:29.320> getting<00:13:29.520> really<00:13:29.720> powerful<00:13:30.400> at<00:13:30.560> helping<00:13:31.680> make<00:13:32.240> transportation<00:13:33.040> smarter<00:13:34.280> across<00:13:34.760> the<00:13:34.880> board.

00:13:35.480 --> 00:13:43.920
So,<00:13:35.640> we<00:13:35.840> we<00:13:36.040> use<00:13:36.320> it<00:13:36.520> in<00:13:36.680> our<00:13:36.920> products,<00:13:37.720> but<00:13:37.880> we're<00:13:38.040> also<00:13:38.360> using<00:13:38.720> it<00:13:39.000> in<00:13:39.120> our<00:13:39.360> own<00:13:39.600> internal<00:13:40.840> decision-making<00:13:41.960> and<00:13:42.280> systems<00:13:43.000> every<00:13:43.240> single<00:13:43.560> day.

00:13:43.920 --> 00:13:47.320
And<00:13:44.080> we're<00:13:44.200> tracking<00:13:45.120> how<00:13:45.240> many<00:13:45.480> hours<00:13:45.880> can<00:13:46.080> we<00:13:46.240> save?

00:13:47.320 --> 00:13:50.440
Um,<00:13:47.720> you<00:13:47.800> know,<00:13:47.880> we're<00:13:48.040> a<00:13:48.080> very<00:13:48.520> operations-heavy<00:13:49.920> business.

00:13:50.440 --> 00:13:55.640
I<00:13:50.480> mean,<00:13:50.640> we<00:13:50.800> have<00:13:51.120> software<00:13:51.840> and<00:13:52.040> we<00:13:52.160> have<00:13:52.440> cars,<00:13:53.160> we<00:13:53.240> have<00:13:53.360> people<00:13:53.720> in<00:13:53.840> cars<00:13:54.480> out<00:13:54.600> in<00:13:54.680> the<00:13:54.760> wild.

00:13:55.640 --> 00:14:01.040
And<00:13:55.800> there's<00:13:56.000> a<00:13:56.080> lot<00:13:56.440> of<00:13:56.760> of<00:13:57.080> manual<00:13:57.680> processes<00:13:58.680> that<00:13:58.840> take<00:13:59.080> place<00:13:59.360> every<00:13:59.600> single<00:13:59.840> day.

00:14:01.040 --> 00:14:09.960
The<00:14:01.280> more<00:14:01.520> we<00:14:01.640> can<00:14:01.880> automate<00:14:02.360> those<00:14:03.120> and<00:14:03.240> then<00:14:03.360> take<00:14:03.760> out<00:14:04.120> the<00:14:04.320> data<00:14:04.720> entry<00:14:05.800> or<00:14:06.120> the<00:14:06.480> copying<00:14:06.960> and<00:14:07.080> pasting<00:14:07.560> from<00:14:07.720> here<00:14:07.880> to<00:14:07.960> there,<00:14:08.400> we<00:14:08.480> can<00:14:08.600> have<00:14:08.680> people<00:14:08.960> focus<00:14:09.520> on

00:14:09.960 --> 00:14:17.000
much<00:14:10.320> higher<00:14:10.520> value<00:14:11.200> activities.<00:14:12.040> And<00:14:12.200> so,<00:14:12.320> that's<00:14:12.600> how,<00:14:12.760> you<00:14:12.880> know,<00:14:12.960> it's<00:14:13.080> not<00:14:13.680> looking<00:14:13.960> at<00:14:14.120> replacing,<00:14:14.840> it's<00:14:15.000> looking<00:14:15.280> at<00:14:15.720> how<00:14:15.800> do<00:14:15.880> we<00:14:16.000> make<00:14:16.120> sure<00:14:16.280> everybody's<00:14:16.680> working

00:14:17.000 --> 00:14:19.160
on<00:14:17.240> the<00:14:17.400> most<00:14:17.680> impactful<00:14:18.640> things.

00:14:19.160 --> 00:14:27.400
And<00:14:19.280> so,<00:14:19.360> there's<00:14:19.520> a<00:14:19.600> lot<00:14:19.800> of<00:14:19.880> initiatives<00:14:20.360> across<00:14:20.760> the<00:14:20.840> company<00:14:21.960> uh<00:14:22.080> from<00:14:22.440> from<00:14:22.640> marketing<00:14:23.120> to<00:14:23.240> operations<00:14:24.080> to<00:14:24.600> to<00:14:25.240> you<00:14:25.360> know,<00:14:26.080> engineering<00:14:27.280> to

00:14:27.400 --> 00:14:31.839
do<00:14:27.665> just<00:14:27.929> that.<00:14:28.194> <00:14:28.458> How<00:14:28.723> [snorts]<00:14:28.987> do<00:14:29.252> you<00:14:29.516> How<00:14:29.781> have<00:14:30.045> you<00:14:30.310> funded<00:14:30.574> the<00:14:30.839> business?

00:14:31.839 --> 00:14:34.560
Uh<00:14:32.000> have<00:14:32.200> you<00:14:32.280> raised<00:14:32.520> money?<00:14:32.920> How<00:14:33.160> have<00:14:33.320> you<00:14:33.440> thought<00:14:33.560> about<00:14:33.760> that?

00:14:34.560 --> 00:14:38.560
<00:14:34.864> We<00:14:35.168> we<00:14:35.472> have<00:14:35.776> raised<00:14:36.080> money.<00:14:36.384> We<00:14:36.688> are<00:14:36.992> a<00:14:37.296> VC-backed<00:14:37.600> business.

00:14:38.560 --> 00:14:47.200
Um<00:14:39.760> uh<00:14:39.920> we<00:14:40.640> started<00:14:40.960> the<00:14:41.040> business<00:14:41.320> about<00:14:41.640> 10<00:14:41.880> years<00:14:42.120> ago<00:14:42.520> and<00:14:42.720> and<00:14:42.880> raised<00:14:43.160> money<00:14:43.400> as<00:14:43.520> a<00:14:43.560> consumer<00:14:44.120> business<00:14:44.720> and<00:14:44.839> then<00:14:45.520> made<00:14:45.720> the<00:14:45.800> pivot<00:14:46.400> to<00:14:46.560> B2B

00:14:47.200 --> 00:14:50.400
and<00:14:47.920> uh<00:14:48.000> and<00:14:48.160> raised<00:14:48.600> some<00:14:48.720> more<00:14:48.880> money<00:14:49.240> to<00:14:49.400> do<00:14:49.560> that.

00:14:50.400 --> 00:14:53.920
Um<00:14:51.120> and<00:14:51.240> then<00:14:51.360> COVID<00:14:51.680> hit<00:14:52.000> and<00:14:52.120> the<00:14:52.160> business<00:14:52.480> nearly<00:14:52.760> died.

00:14:53.920 --> 00:15:02.120
Um<00:14:54.320> and<00:14:55.280> uh<00:14:55.360> and<00:14:55.520> so,<00:14:55.680> coming<00:14:55.960> out<00:14:56.120> of<00:14:56.240> COVID,<00:14:56.520> we<00:14:56.640> raised<00:14:56.880> some<00:14:57.000> money<00:14:57.200> to<00:14:57.320> keep<00:14:57.640> the<00:14:57.680> business<00:14:58.080> going<00:14:58.880> and<00:14:59.000> then<00:14:59.240> really<00:14:59.640> saw<00:15:00.480> massive<00:15:01.000> growth<00:15:01.320> and<00:15:01.400> traction<00:15:01.880> after

00:15:02.120 --> 00:15:08.800
that<00:15:02.360> and<00:15:02.560> and<00:15:02.720> did<00:15:02.839> a<00:15:02.880> follow-on<00:15:03.400> round.<00:15:04.200> Um<00:15:04.480> but<00:15:05.200> uh<00:15:05.360> you<00:15:05.440> know,<00:15:05.640> I<00:15:05.720> don't<00:15:06.000> think<00:15:06.240> we<00:15:06.360> will<00:15:06.480> need<00:15:06.680> to<00:15:06.760> raise<00:15:06.960> money<00:15:07.800> again.

00:15:08.800 --> 00:15:12.839
<00:15:08.957> Uh<00:15:09.113> yeah,<00:15:09.270> I<00:15:09.427> mean,<00:15:09.583> you<00:15:09.740> mentioned<00:15:09.897> COVID<00:15:10.053> and<00:15:10.210> and<00:15:10.367> when<00:15:10.523> as<00:15:10.680> soon<00:15:10.837> as<00:15:10.993> you<00:15:11.150> said<00:15:11.307> I<00:15:11.463> was<00:15:11.620> like,<00:15:11.777> yeah,<00:15:11.933> of<00:15:12.090> course,<00:15:12.247> you<00:15:12.403> almost<00:15:12.560> died.

00:15:12.839 --> 00:15:16.240
Like,<00:15:13.200> you<00:15:13.280> know,<00:15:13.360> they<00:15:13.520> stopped<00:15:14.480> going<00:15:15.000> to<00:15:15.120> school,<00:15:15.760> right?

00:15:16.240 --> 00:15:20.640
And<00:15:16.400> everybody<00:15:16.800> stayed<00:15:17.120> home<00:15:17.640> and<00:15:18.560> depending<00:15:18.920> on<00:15:19.000> the<00:15:19.040> school<00:15:19.240> district,<00:15:19.640> who<00:15:19.720> knows<00:15:19.960> how<00:15:20.080> long<00:15:20.280> you<00:15:20.360> did<00:15:20.520> that.

00:15:20.640 --> 00:15:26.360
But<00:15:20.760> then,<00:15:20.880> I<00:15:20.920> mean,<00:15:21.160> your<00:15:21.440> your<00:15:21.760> your<00:15:22.000> business<00:15:22.320> model<00:15:22.560> is<00:15:22.680> taking<00:15:22.960> kids<00:15:23.240> to<00:15:23.320> school,<00:15:23.720> and<00:15:23.840> if<00:15:24.520> school<00:15:24.760> shuts<00:15:25.040> down,<00:15:25.520> I<00:15:25.600> imagine<00:15:25.960> that's<00:15:26.160> hard.

00:15:26.360 --> 00:15:31.640
How<00:15:26.480> did<00:15:26.720> you<00:15:26.840> manage<00:15:27.160> your<00:15:27.280> way<00:15:27.440> through<00:15:27.760> that?<00:15:28.760> Um<00:15:29.120> and<00:15:29.240> how<00:15:29.400> have<00:15:29.600> you<00:15:29.920> What<00:15:30.080> did<00:15:30.200> you<00:15:30.360> learn<00:15:30.640> from<00:15:30.800> that<00:15:30.960> experience?

00:15:31.640 --> 00:15:37.520
<00:15:32.000> Yeah.<00:15:32.360> Uh<00:15:32.720> by<00:15:33.080> the<00:15:33.440> skin<00:15:33.800> of<00:15:34.160> our<00:15:34.520> teeth,<00:15:34.880> we<00:15:35.240> made<00:15:35.600> our<00:15:35.960> way<00:15:36.320> through<00:15:36.680> that.

00:15:37.520 --> 00:15:41.360
Um<00:15:37.680> you<00:15:37.800> know,<00:15:37.920> I<00:15:37.960> mean,<00:15:38.120> I<00:15:38.200> think<00:15:39.120> very<00:15:39.360> quickly,<00:15:40.000> you<00:15:40.080> know,<00:15:40.160> it<00:15:40.240> was<00:15:40.320> 2<00:15:40.440> weeks<00:15:40.600> to<00:15:40.720> flatten<00:15:40.960> the<00:15:41.000> curve.

00:15:41.360 --> 00:15:43.920
We<00:15:41.600> sent<00:15:41.880> everybody<00:15:42.320> home<00:15:42.640> and<00:15:42.960> and<00:15:43.160> said<00:15:43.440> sit<00:15:43.600> tight.

00:15:43.920 --> 00:15:50.040
We'll<00:15:44.200> We'll<00:15:44.320> be<00:15:44.440> back<00:15:44.680> in<00:15:44.760> no<00:15:44.880> time.<00:15:45.720> Um<00:15:46.080> and<00:15:46.200> then<00:15:46.320> it<00:15:46.360> became<00:15:46.640> very<00:15:46.880> clear<00:15:47.080> very<00:15:47.240> quickly<00:15:47.560> school<00:15:47.840> was<00:15:48.000> not<00:15:48.440> reopening.

00:15:50.040 --> 00:15:53.080
And<00:15:50.840> uh<00:15:50.880> but<00:15:51.000> we<00:15:51.120> thought<00:15:51.320> school<00:15:51.560> was<00:15:51.720> going<00:15:51.840> to<00:15:51.920> reopen<00:15:52.400> in<00:15:52.520> August.

00:15:53.080 --> 00:15:56.400
And<00:15:53.200> so,<00:15:53.280> it<00:15:53.360> was<00:15:53.440> about<00:15:53.680> getting<00:15:53.960> ready<00:15:54.240> for<00:15:54.400> that<00:15:54.640> and<00:15:54.760> doing<00:15:54.960> all<00:15:55.040> the<00:15:55.160> things<00:15:55.400> that<00:15:55.520> we<00:15:55.600> needed<00:15:55.920> to<00:15:56.000> do.

00:15:56.400 --> 00:16:04.120
And<00:15:56.920> And<00:15:57.080> when<00:15:57.200> it<00:15:57.280> became<00:15:57.640> clear,<00:15:58.520> you<00:15:58.600> know,<00:15:58.720> our<00:15:58.840> biggest<00:15:59.200> markets<00:15:59.760> at<00:15:59.880> that<00:16:00.080> point<00:16:00.280> in<00:16:00.360> time<00:16:00.640> were<00:16:00.720> California<00:16:01.960> uh<00:16:02.080> and<00:16:02.200> Washington,<00:16:02.720> where<00:16:02.840> school<00:16:03.120> really<00:16:03.360> didn't

00:16:04.120 --> 00:16:08.520
come<00:16:04.280> back.<00:16:04.600> It<00:16:04.680> came<00:16:04.840> back<00:16:05.080> in<00:16:05.320> in<00:16:05.440> Texas<00:16:05.880> and<00:16:06.000> Colorado<00:16:06.400> and<00:16:06.480> a<00:16:06.520> couple<00:16:06.720> of<00:16:06.800> other<00:16:06.960> places<00:16:07.320> that<00:16:07.440> we<00:16:07.560> were.

00:16:08.520 --> 00:16:12.200
Um<00:16:09.840> but<00:16:10.040> really,<00:16:10.320> you<00:16:10.400> know,<00:16:10.720> we<00:16:10.920> we<00:16:11.040> had<00:16:11.160> to<00:16:11.240> make<00:16:11.360> really<00:16:11.560> hard<00:16:11.720> decisions.

00:16:12.200 --> 00:16:15.160
We<00:16:12.320> had<00:16:12.480> to<00:16:12.880> to<00:16:13.040> lay<00:16:13.280> off<00:16:13.640> over<00:16:13.880> half<00:16:14.120> the<00:16:14.240> team.

00:16:15.160 --> 00:16:22.880
Um<00:16:15.960> you<00:16:16.040> know,<00:16:16.360> one<00:16:16.520> of<00:16:16.600> the<00:16:16.680> things<00:16:16.920> I'm<00:16:17.000> really<00:16:17.320> proud<00:16:17.760> of<00:16:17.880> is<00:16:18.080> as<00:16:18.240> we<00:16:18.360> started<00:16:18.680> growing<00:16:19.080> again,<00:16:19.400> we<00:16:19.520> rehired<00:16:20.320> over<00:16:20.560> a<00:16:20.640> third<00:16:21.400> people<00:16:21.600> that<00:16:21.720> we<00:16:21.800> laid<00:16:22.040> off.

00:16:22.880 --> 00:16:26.240
Um<00:16:23.680> but<00:16:24.000> you<00:16:24.080> know,<00:16:24.160> we<00:16:24.320> we<00:16:24.440> had<00:16:24.600> to<00:16:24.680> make<00:16:24.920> really<00:16:25.160> really<00:16:25.400> hard<00:16:25.600> decisions.

00:16:26.240 --> 00:16:34.560
We<00:16:26.400> had<00:16:26.880> to<00:16:27.960> really<00:16:28.839> change<00:16:30.160> what<00:16:30.360> we<00:16:30.480> worked<00:16:30.800> on,<00:16:31.000> how<00:16:31.200> we<00:16:31.360> worked<00:16:31.680> on<00:16:31.880> it,<00:16:32.080> and<00:16:32.240> what<00:16:32.400> we<00:16:32.480> needed<00:16:32.800> to<00:16:32.920> do<00:16:33.160> to<00:16:33.320> get<00:16:33.800> ready.

00:16:34.560 --> 00:16:36.560
But<00:16:34.720> we<00:16:34.880> knew<00:16:35.240> that<00:16:35.360> it<00:16:35.440> was<00:16:35.560> a<00:16:35.640> when,<00:16:35.920> not<00:16:36.120> an<00:16:36.280> if.

00:16:36.560 --> 00:16:43.480
We<00:16:36.680> knew<00:16:37.080> schools<00:16:37.400> would<00:16:37.560> reopen,<00:16:38.120> and<00:16:38.320> we<00:16:38.480> knew<00:16:38.920> that<00:16:39.160> all<00:16:39.320> of<00:16:39.440> the<00:16:39.560> trends<00:16:40.080> that<00:16:40.160> we<00:16:40.280> were<00:16:40.400> seeing<00:16:40.760> in<00:16:40.880> student<00:16:41.160> transportation<00:16:41.880> were<00:16:42.040> only<00:16:42.280> going<00:16:42.400> to<00:16:42.440> be<00:16:42.520> exacerbated

00:16:43.480 --> 00:16:48.400
by<00:16:43.600> COVID.<00:16:44.080> And<00:16:44.280> And<00:16:44.400> they<00:16:44.520> were.<00:16:45.160> Half<00:16:45.400> of<00:16:45.480> the<00:16:45.560> bus<00:16:45.760> drivers,<00:16:46.400> you<00:16:46.480> know,<00:16:46.640> quit<00:16:47.000> and<00:16:47.080> never<00:16:47.320> came<00:16:47.520> back.

00:16:48.400 --> 00:16:55.160
Uh<00:16:48.880> the<00:16:49.480> populations<00:16:50.440> that<00:16:50.600> we<00:16:50.720> serve<00:16:51.720> uh<00:16:52.160> unfortunately<00:16:53.200> expanded<00:16:53.800> dramatically.

00:16:55.160 --> 00:17:03.680
Um<00:16:55.760> and<00:16:56.200> and<00:16:56.400> schools<00:16:56.839> were<00:16:57.320> were<00:16:57.560> really<00:16:58.160> trying<00:16:58.560> to,<00:16:58.720> you<00:16:58.800> know,<00:16:58.960> we<00:16:59.200> had<00:16:59.360> this<00:16:59.560> We've<00:16:59.800> had<00:17:00.000> We<00:17:00.160> still<00:17:00.560> have<00:17:00.880> this<00:17:01.120> huge<00:17:01.520> chronic<00:17:01.920> absenteeism<00:17:02.640> problem,<00:17:03.520> where

00:17:03.680 --> 00:17:12.720
kids<00:17:04.120> aren't<00:17:04.439> going<00:17:04.800> to<00:17:04.959> school.<00:17:06.319> If<00:17:06.480> you<00:17:06.600> don't<00:17:06.839> have<00:17:07.000> a<00:17:07.120> safe,<00:17:07.640> stable<00:17:08.120> way<00:17:08.280> of<00:17:08.439> getting<00:17:08.800> to<00:17:08.959> school,<00:17:09.760> going<00:17:10.120> to<00:17:10.240> school<00:17:10.520> is<00:17:10.760> really<00:17:11.040> hard,<00:17:11.400> it<00:17:11.520> turns<00:17:11.839> out.

00:17:12.720 --> 00:17:17.160
And<00:17:12.920> so,<00:17:13.079> transportation<00:17:14.000> is<00:17:14.120> a<00:17:14.240> massive<00:17:14.920> part<00:17:15.120> of<00:17:15.199> solving<00:17:15.520> that<00:17:15.680> problem.

00:17:17.160 --> 00:17:25.360
The<00:17:17.280> way<00:17:17.439> we've<00:17:17.640> seen<00:17:17.880> schools<00:17:18.280> respond<00:17:19.199> to<00:17:19.959> driver<00:17:20.280> shortages,<00:17:21.280> to<00:17:21.439> increased<00:17:22.079> cost,<00:17:22.959> they've<00:17:23.120> kind<00:17:23.400> of<00:17:23.920> reduced<00:17:24.640> service.

00:17:25.360 --> 00:17:32.080
They've<00:17:25.520> consolidated<00:17:26.360> routes,<00:17:26.760> they've<00:17:26.959> expanded<00:17:27.760> walk<00:17:28.079> boundaries,<00:17:28.640> and<00:17:28.760> they've<00:17:28.920> really<00:17:29.200> shifted<00:17:29.800> that<00:17:30.040> burden<00:17:30.920> to<00:17:31.040> parents.

00:17:32.080 --> 00:17:38.360
As<00:17:32.240> you<00:17:32.400> mentioned,<00:17:32.720> you<00:17:32.800> have<00:17:32.960> four<00:17:33.280> kids.<00:17:33.680> What<00:17:33.840> we<00:17:33.960> see<00:17:34.160> is<00:17:34.320> parents<00:17:34.720> are<00:17:34.840> now<00:17:35.640> going<00:17:35.920> crazy<00:17:36.560> trying<00:17:36.800> to<00:17:36.880> get<00:17:37.040> all<00:17:37.200> of<00:17:37.280> their<00:17:37.440> kids<00:17:37.800> to<00:17:37.920> school.

00:17:38.360 --> 00:17:44.400
Car<00:17:38.800> lines<00:17:39.360> have<00:17:39.480> expanded.<00:17:40.800> This<00:17:41.000> last<00:17:41.400> year<00:17:41.680> we<00:17:41.800> did<00:17:42.000> we<00:17:42.120> did<00:17:42.240> our<00:17:42.360> state<00:17:42.600> of<00:17:42.680> school<00:17:42.880> transportation<00:17:43.640> report.

00:17:44.400 --> 00:17:47.480
We<00:17:44.520> surveyed<00:17:44.960> both<00:17:45.320> schools<00:17:46.000> and<00:17:46.280> parents.

00:17:47.480 --> 00:17:55.640
11%<00:17:48.600> of<00:17:48.720> parents<00:17:49.440> surveyed<00:17:50.000> said<00:17:50.160> they<00:17:50.320> have<00:17:50.560> lost<00:17:51.040> a<00:17:51.120> job<00:17:51.600> opportunity<00:17:52.840> because<00:17:53.600> of<00:17:54.200> having<00:17:54.560> to<00:17:54.720> get<00:17:54.920> their<00:17:55.080> kids<00:17:55.480> to

00:17:55.640 --> 00:17:59.240
and<00:17:55.760> from<00:17:56.000> school.<00:17:57.400> That's<00:17:57.640> a<00:17:57.720> huge<00:17:58.320> impact.

00:17:59.240 --> 00:18:05.360
<00:17:59.588> Absolutely.<00:17:59.936> <00:18:00.285> If<00:18:00.633> you<00:18:00.981> have<00:18:01.329> the<00:18:01.678> resources<00:18:02.026> and<00:18:02.374> you<00:18:02.722> have<00:18:03.071> a<00:18:03.419> car,<00:18:03.767> maybe<00:18:04.115> you<00:18:04.464> can<00:18:04.812> manage<00:18:05.160> this.

00:18:05.360 --> 00:18:10.320
And<00:18:05.480> maybe<00:18:05.680> you're<00:18:05.800> a<00:18:05.840> two-family<00:18:06.680> you're<00:18:06.800> a<00:18:06.840> two-parent<00:18:07.240> household,<00:18:07.600> you<00:18:07.680> can<00:18:08.120> you<00:18:08.240> can<00:18:08.400> figure<00:18:08.600> out<00:18:08.640> how<00:18:08.720> to<00:18:08.760> make<00:18:08.920> it<00:18:09.040> work<00:18:09.240> and<00:18:09.320> it's<00:18:09.480> hard<00:18:09.800> and<00:18:09.880> you're<00:18:10.000> struggling

00:18:10.320 --> 00:18:15.200
but<00:18:11.080> but<00:18:11.160> if<00:18:11.240> you're<00:18:11.360> a<00:18:11.440> single<00:18:11.760> parent<00:18:12.080> household,<00:18:12.680> if<00:18:12.840> you<00:18:12.960> have<00:18:13.120> to<00:18:13.200> be<00:18:13.320> at<00:18:13.560> work<00:18:14.040> at,<00:18:14.320> you<00:18:14.400> know,<00:18:14.520> 6:00<00:18:14.880> a.m.

00:18:15.200 --> 00:18:23.720
like<00:18:16.000> it<00:18:16.160> is<00:18:16.360> really<00:18:16.680> hard<00:18:16.920> to<00:18:16.960> get<00:18:17.080> your<00:18:17.200> kids<00:18:17.440> to<00:18:17.600> school<00:18:18.520> and<00:18:18.640> this<00:18:18.800> has<00:18:18.960> a<00:18:19.040> massive<00:18:19.480> economic<00:18:19.960> impact<00:18:20.400> both<00:18:20.640> on<00:18:20.800> parents<00:18:21.800> and<00:18:22.000> on<00:18:22.120> kids<00:18:22.480> who<00:18:22.600> are<00:18:22.720> now<00:18:23.200> chronically

00:18:23.720 --> 00:18:29.760
absent<00:18:24.160> because<00:18:24.760> mom's<00:18:25.240> gone<00:18:25.560> before<00:18:25.840> they<00:18:26.000> wake<00:18:26.240> up<00:18:26.480> and<00:18:26.680> you<00:18:26.760> know,<00:18:26.960> just<00:18:27.200> they<00:18:27.320> can't<00:18:27.640> be<00:18:27.760> bothered<00:18:28.120> to<00:18:28.200> get<00:18:28.320> to<00:18:28.400> school<00:18:28.720> today.

00:18:29.760 --> 00:18:35.920
Uh<00:18:29.960> this<00:18:30.160> has<00:18:30.360> massive<00:18:31.120> massive<00:18:31.520> impacts<00:18:32.000> and<00:18:32.120> so<00:18:32.240> this<00:18:32.440> is<00:18:32.560> where<00:18:32.720> again<00:18:33.120> schools<00:18:33.680> need<00:18:34.080> those<00:18:34.320> tools<00:18:34.640> in<00:18:34.720> their<00:18:34.880> toolkit.

00:18:35.920 --> 00:18:44.040
Uh<00:18:36.215> and<00:18:36.510> that's<00:18:36.804> what<00:18:37.099> we<00:18:37.394> provide.<00:18:37.689> <00:18:37.984> Man,<00:18:38.279> so<00:18:38.573> many<00:18:38.868> people<00:18:39.163> build<00:18:39.458> companies<00:18:39.753> and<00:18:40.047> they<00:18:40.342> say<00:18:40.637> that<00:18:40.932> they<00:18:41.227> are<00:18:41.521> doing<00:18:41.816> it<00:18:42.111> to<00:18:42.406> change<00:18:42.701> the<00:18:42.996> world<00:18:43.290> and<00:18:43.585> maybe<00:18:43.880> some

00:18:44.040 --> 00:18:50.480
of<00:18:44.120> them<00:18:44.320> are<00:18:44.480> but<00:18:44.680> you<00:18:44.800> really<00:18:45.120> are.<00:18:45.440> It<00:18:45.480> really<00:18:45.720> is<00:18:46.400> remarkable<00:18:47.600> what<00:18:47.840> you<00:18:47.960> are<00:18:48.080> doing<00:18:48.720> and<00:18:49.160> the<00:18:49.280> way<00:18:49.560> you've<00:18:49.800> done<00:18:50.040> it.

00:18:50.480 --> 00:18:56.680
How<00:18:50.600> do<00:18:50.680> you<00:18:50.800> think<00:18:51.000> about<00:18:51.280> leadership?<00:18:51.920> I<00:18:51.960> mean,<00:18:52.160> what<00:18:52.320> drives<00:18:52.680> like<00:18:52.840> the<00:18:52.960> values<00:18:54.000> of<00:18:54.200> you<00:18:54.360> as<00:18:54.480> a<00:18:54.560> leader?

00:18:56.680 --> 00:19:02.120
<00:18:57.020> We,<00:18:57.360> you<00:18:57.700> know,<00:18:58.040> I<00:18:58.380> think<00:18:58.720> we've<00:18:59.060> always<00:18:59.400> been<00:18:59.740> a<00:19:00.080> very<00:19:00.420> mission-driven<00:19:00.760> company.

00:19:02.120 --> 00:19:10.880
Um<00:19:02.360> and<00:19:03.040> and<00:19:03.200> from<00:19:03.360> the<00:19:03.440> beginning<00:19:04.240> I<00:19:04.400> think<00:19:04.800> I<00:19:04.960> was<00:19:05.440> so<00:19:05.720> passionate<00:19:06.600> about<00:19:07.040> solving<00:19:07.800> at<00:19:08.000> the<00:19:08.080> time<00:19:08.440> it<00:19:08.520> was<00:19:08.640> a<00:19:08.840> a<00:19:08.920> very<00:19:09.720> personal<00:19:10.320> consumer

00:19:10.880 --> 00:19:13.480
problem<00:19:11.560> of<00:19:11.840> I<00:19:11.920> need<00:19:12.160> to<00:19:12.240> get<00:19:12.400> my<00:19:12.520> kids<00:19:12.760> around.

00:19:13.480 --> 00:19:21.240
I<00:19:13.640> feel<00:19:13.840> very<00:19:14.080> guilty<00:19:14.520> that<00:19:14.720> I<00:19:14.840> can't<00:19:15.840> let<00:19:16.040> them<00:19:16.240> do<00:19:16.440> these<00:19:16.680> things<00:19:17.080> or<00:19:17.240> I<00:19:17.360> can't,<00:19:18.200> you<00:19:18.240> know,<00:19:18.400> I<00:19:18.480> have<00:19:18.640> to<00:19:18.800> worry<00:19:19.080> about<00:19:19.320> leaving<00:19:19.680> work<00:19:19.960> early<00:19:20.400> to<00:19:20.560> do<00:19:20.760> these<00:19:20.920> things.

00:19:21.240 --> 00:19:24.560
And<00:19:21.360> so<00:19:21.480> it<00:19:21.680> came<00:19:21.960> from<00:19:22.120> there,<00:19:22.320> but<00:19:22.400> it<00:19:22.440> was<00:19:22.600> all<00:19:22.840> about<00:19:23.160> access<00:19:23.480> to<00:19:23.600> opportunity.

00:19:24.560 --> 00:19:28.240
You<00:19:24.640> know,<00:19:24.720> transportation<00:19:25.560> mobility<00:19:26.120> is<00:19:26.280> really<00:19:26.560> access<00:19:26.920> to<00:19:27.000> opportunity.

00:19:28.240 --> 00:19:30.760
And<00:19:28.360> from<00:19:28.520> the<00:19:28.600> beginning<00:19:29.120> we've<00:19:29.320> always<00:19:29.560> been<00:19:29.680> very<00:19:29.880> mission-driven.

00:19:30.760 --> 00:19:36.200
And<00:19:30.960> I<00:19:31.080> was<00:19:31.320> I<00:19:31.400> was<00:19:31.600> not<00:19:32.680> the<00:19:32.800> entrepreneur<00:19:33.280> that<00:19:33.400> just<00:19:33.600> wants<00:19:33.800> to<00:19:33.880> build<00:19:34.160> something<00:19:34.560> and<00:19:34.680> is<00:19:34.760> just<00:19:35.000> excited<00:19:35.400> about<00:19:35.600> the<00:19:35.720> build.

00:19:36.200 --> 00:19:40.040
I<00:19:36.280> was<00:19:36.440> the<00:19:36.560> entrepreneur<00:19:37.160> that<00:19:37.320> was<00:19:37.480> like,<00:19:37.760> I<00:19:37.880> have<00:19:38.160> to<00:19:38.320> solve<00:19:38.600> this<00:19:38.800> problem.

00:19:40.040 --> 00:19:45.440
Um<00:19:41.040> and<00:19:41.320> and<00:19:41.480> I<00:19:41.600> think<00:19:41.880> that<00:19:42.200> has<00:19:42.480> permeated<00:19:43.880> you<00:19:43.960> know,<00:19:44.080> that<00:19:44.280> that<00:19:44.440> is<00:19:44.560> still<00:19:44.840> to<00:19:44.960> this<00:19:45.160> day.

00:19:45.440 --> 00:19:51.040
I've<00:19:45.600> just<00:19:45.800> now<00:19:45.960> found<00:19:46.240> a<00:19:46.320> much<00:19:46.560> bigger<00:19:46.840> problem<00:19:47.520> that<00:19:47.720> that<00:19:47.880> needs<00:19:48.160> solving<00:19:48.680> that<00:19:48.920> that<00:19:49.120> we<00:19:49.320> have<00:19:49.480> a<00:19:49.560> solution<00:19:50.120> for.

00:19:51.040 --> 00:19:54.840
Um<00:19:51.360> but<00:19:51.520> that,<00:19:51.960> you<00:19:52.040> know,<00:19:52.280> impacts<00:19:53.560> everything<00:19:53.960> that<00:19:54.080> we<00:19:54.200> do<00:19:54.440> here.

00:19:54.840 --> 00:20:03.600
It<00:19:54.960> impacts<00:19:55.480> all<00:19:55.680> of<00:19:55.760> our<00:19:55.920> values.<00:19:56.640> You<00:19:56.720> know,<00:19:56.840> we<00:19:57.720> um<00:19:58.280> we<00:19:58.520> we<00:19:58.840> stated<00:19:59.280> our<00:19:59.400> values<00:19:59.760> very<00:20:00.040> early<00:20:00.360> on<00:20:00.640> and<00:20:00.760> we<00:20:00.880> really<00:20:01.480> try<00:20:01.600> to<00:20:01.720> live<00:20:01.960> those<00:20:02.160> values,<00:20:02.720> which<00:20:02.920> are

00:20:03.600 --> 00:20:05.960
really<00:20:03.840> around,<00:20:04.320> you<00:20:04.400> know,<00:20:04.640> obviously<00:20:04.960> safety<00:20:05.280> is<00:20:05.360> everything.

00:20:05.960 --> 00:20:14.720
That's<00:20:06.160> our<00:20:06.240> most<00:20:06.440> important<00:20:06.800> value,<00:20:07.120> but<00:20:07.240> a<00:20:07.320> lot<00:20:07.480> of<00:20:07.560> our<00:20:07.680> values<00:20:08.040> are<00:20:08.160> around<00:20:09.200> you<00:20:09.240> know,<00:20:09.400> having<00:20:09.760> empathy,<00:20:10.440> empathy<00:20:10.880> for<00:20:12.360> our<00:20:12.480> customers,<00:20:13.760> our<00:20:13.920> clients<00:20:14.640> who

00:20:14.720 --> 00:20:18.440
are<00:20:14.800> trying<00:20:15.200> to<00:20:15.280> do<00:20:15.400> a<00:20:15.440> whole<00:20:15.760> lot<00:20:16.120> with<00:20:16.480> a<00:20:16.520> whole<00:20:17.360> little.

00:20:18.440 --> 00:20:24.040
Um<00:20:18.800> our<00:20:19.000> our<00:20:19.120> parents<00:20:19.840> who<00:20:20.040> are<00:20:20.280> dealing<00:20:20.640> with<00:20:20.760> multiple<00:20:21.200> kids<00:20:21.560> and<00:20:21.720> one<00:20:21.880> of<00:20:21.960> them<00:20:22.120> has<00:20:22.280> special<00:20:22.640> needs<00:20:22.920> and<00:20:23.000> that's<00:20:23.200> really<00:20:23.600> hard.

00:20:24.040 --> 00:20:31.920
And<00:20:24.240> and<00:20:24.400> how<00:20:24.560> do<00:20:24.720> we<00:20:25.280> make<00:20:25.520> sure<00:20:25.640> that<00:20:25.760> we<00:20:25.800> have<00:20:25.920> empathy<00:20:26.240> for<00:20:26.400> them,<00:20:27.080> for<00:20:27.200> care<00:20:27.520> drivers<00:20:28.240> who<00:20:28.480> are<00:20:29.000> trying<00:20:29.280> to<00:20:29.360> make<00:20:29.760> money<00:20:30.080> in<00:20:30.200> a<00:20:30.280> flexible<00:20:30.800> way<00:20:31.120> and<00:20:31.360> showing<00:20:31.680> up<00:20:31.840> at

00:20:31.920 --> 00:20:39.280
a<00:20:32.000> school<00:20:32.440> they've<00:20:32.640> never<00:20:32.920> been<00:20:33.160> to<00:20:33.840> uh<00:20:33.920> to<00:20:34.040> pick<00:20:34.240> up<00:20:34.360> a<00:20:34.400> kid<00:20:34.720> that<00:20:34.880> maybe<00:20:35.080> they<00:20:35.200> haven't<00:20:35.480> met<00:20:35.640> before,<00:20:36.400> to<00:20:36.520> our<00:20:36.640> team<00:20:37.120> who<00:20:37.240> is<00:20:37.360> working<00:20:37.720> really<00:20:38.000> hard<00:20:38.360> to<00:20:38.600> to<00:20:38.720> solve<00:20:39.040> hard

00:20:39.280 --> 00:20:43.400
problems.<00:20:40.480> You<00:20:40.560> know,<00:20:40.640> there's<00:20:40.880> there's<00:20:41.120> multiple<00:20:41.480> ways<00:20:41.840> to<00:20:42.040> do<00:20:42.280> something.

00:20:43.400 --> 00:20:48.360
Um<00:20:43.720> how<00:20:43.920> you<00:20:44.080> behave<00:20:45.120> towards<00:20:45.600> reaching<00:20:45.960> those<00:20:46.200> goals<00:20:47.240> matters.

00:20:48.360 --> 00:20:56.880

00:20:56.880 --> 00:21:04.920
it<00:20:57.120> and<00:20:57.360> and<00:20:57.520> safety<00:20:57.800> is<00:20:57.920> everything<00:20:58.320> are<00:20:58.480> our<00:20:58.800> our<00:20:58.960> two<00:20:59.160> biggest<00:21:00.200> uh<00:21:00.440> values<00:21:00.760> that<00:21:00.880> I<00:21:00.960> always<00:21:01.240> kind<00:21:01.400> of<00:21:01.520> have<00:21:01.720> top<00:21:02.000> of<00:21:02.120> mind<00:21:02.920> uh<00:21:03.000> with<00:21:03.160> any<00:21:03.320> decision<00:21:03.720> that<00:21:03.840> I'm<00:21:03.960> making.

00:21:04.920 --> 00:21:08.840
<00:21:05.178> Yeah,<00:21:05.436> it's<00:21:05.695> incredible.<00:21:05.953> So<00:21:06.211> it<00:21:06.469> what<00:21:06.727> what<00:21:06.985> doing<00:21:07.244> is<00:21:07.502> so<00:21:07.760> cool.
