Questions, answered.
The basics
What is CEO.com membership?
CEO.com is a journal of leadership. Membership is the part that isn't published: a community of leaders, live events and dinners, and at the top tier, a standing board of peers who meet monthly.
Do I have to be a CEO?
No. We cover leaders of every kind, and our members are the same. Boards are organized by role, so we'll seat you with people doing your job.
How do I choose a tier?
Member if you want the conversation. League if you want the events and the dinners. Board if you want a small group of peers who know your business and meet with you every month.
Can I upgrade later?
Yes. You pay the difference, and it applies immediately.
Does membership renew automatically?
Yes, annually. We email you before it renews, and you can cancel any time before that date.
Is membership per person or per company?
Per person. Boards in particular are individual seats, because the room depends on knowing exactly who's in it.
The magazine
What is CEO.com Magazine?
A print quarterly. Four issues a year, mailed to every member at every tier. It's the slow version of what we do online: longer reporting, essays, and interviews that benefit from a page instead of a screen.
Do I have to be a member to get it?
Yes. The magazine isn't sold on newsstands or by subscription. It comes with membership and only with membership.
Is the magazine content also online?
No, not publicly. The Magazine is published online inside of the membership community hub.
Where do you ship?
Anywhere we can get mail to. Give us a mailing address when you join, and update it in your profile if you move.
What if I join mid-quarter?
Your first issue is the next one to print. We don't backfill past issues.
Member
What's in the community?
Members-only posts and discussions, community chat, livestreams, an events calendar including events other members host, and a directory where you can message anyone directly.
Is the journalism behind a paywall?
No. Our reporting, the podcast, and the newsletter are free to everyone. Membership is for the community around them, not access to the work.
Can I host my own event?
Yes. Any member can put an event on the calendar and invite the rest of the community.
CEO.com League
What's the difference between League events and public CEO.com events?
League events are for members only, smaller, and built for conversation rather than an audience.
What does off-the-record mean?
Those livestreams aren't recorded, published, or quoted. Members ask questions directly, and nothing said in them appears in our journalism.
How does the Dinner Club work?
Dinners run in rotating cities on a regular schedule. We announce them in advance, and League members can claim a seat at dinners they're interested in attending.
Board
What is a CEO.com Board?
Eight to twelve leaders in the same seat as you, meeting monthly, who know your business well enough to be useful and owe you nothing. Think of it as your personal board of directors. You sit on eleven other boards, and eleven leaders sit on yours.
How are Boards assembled?
By role, and by hand. We don't seat direct competitors together, or a member alongside their own investor or board member. That rule is the reason the room works.
What happens in a meeting?
Boards operate on two rules: show up, and give more than you take. The bulk of each board meeting consists of one member bringing a live decision or problem they're facing. The board then works through it as a group.
Are Boards the same people every month?
Yes. Boards don't rotate for a year, which means the first 20 minutes aren't spent explaining their business again.
Is it confidential?
Yes, by rule. What's said in a Board meeting stays in it. Every member agrees to that before their first meeting.
In person or virtual?
Meetings are virtual and monthly. The Board Dinner Club is in person.
What if my Board isn't the right fit?
Tell us, and we'll seat you somewhere else. No charge, and no conversation about it with your old Board.
How long until I'm placed?
You'll be placed on a board once we determine the right fit, role, and culture.
Independence
Does membership get me coverage in CEO.com?
No. As our editorial policy states, no advertiser, sponsor, investor, or business partner influences what we publish. That includes members, at every tier.
Do members get any say in what we publish?
No. Members tell us what leaders need covered, and that's useful. Nobody sees a story before it runs, and nobody is exempt.
