Matterport CEO RJ Pittman
Silicon Valley, San Francisco, and why the executive who spends time in Park City still would not build anywhere else.

The hard hat and the keyboard
RJ Pittman ran product at Google when Google was inventing the modern web. He launched the iPad. He was eBay's first chief product officer. And somewhere in the middle of all that, at two in the morning, he was walking a building inspector through a house in San Francisco he had designed and was building himself, flashlight in one hand, hard hat on, an ecommerce startup waiting for him at sunrise.
That second life explains the first. When Pittman left eBay in 2018, he did not go build another marketplace. He went to a Sunnyvale company called Matterport that made a camera and some software for turning rooms into 3D models, and he ran it for six years, through a SPAC, a pandemic, a real estate collapse, and a sale to CoStar Group. The bet, as he described it on the CEO.com Podcast, was that the largest asset class on earth had somehow never been touched by the tools he had spent 25 years building, and that the people who could see the gap were the ones who had spent time on both sides of it.
He got there early. Pittman wrote his first business plan at 14, in a small town in Northern Michigan, and pitched it to his father. His father said no. Then he said no again. "Eventually he took mercy on me and funded this crazy idea that I was going to transform photocopy shops into desktop publishing juggernauts with this great new invention called the Apple Macintosh," Pittman told the CEO.com Podcast. It was 1985 or so. He did the thing, which is the part people tend to leave out of stories like this, and he kept doing versions of it through college and out the other side. His first company after school was in London. By the time the web arrived in 1994, he was in Silicon Valley with a string of startups, five of them by his own count, including Groxis, a search company he co-founded and ran through the dot-com bust. "A few successes, a few spectacular crashes and burns, all the battle scars you need to keep going and onto the next," he said.
Google hired him in 2007. He helped build Google Finance, Google News, and Google Image Search. Apple hired him in 2010 to run the global ecommerce platform for its online stores, and the first product he helped launch was the iPad, which he remembers people mocking as a big iPhone with a silly name. Fourteen years later, Apple was shipping tens of millions of them a quarter. He took that as a lesson about how disruption gets received. "Perhaps the more preposterous it seems on the surface," he said, "might actually be the key indicator to just how big it's going to be." Then eBay, 2013 to 2018, where he ran design, product, and engineering for the marketplace.
The real estate thread runs underneath it all. His mother bought undervalued houses, fixed them up, sold them, and moved the family into the next one. Pittman spent the summer before his senior year of high school building his own bedroom and bathroom because that was the only way he was going to have one. He never stopped paying attention to buildings after that, and his wife eventually told him to quit treating it as a hobby. At eBay, he had noticed a real estate category in the marketplace, land and modular homes and the like, and wondered why buying a house could not be added to cart, checkout. He estimated the market at $400 trillion, which he said is five times the combined value of every publicly listed company in the world. The internet had produced a handful of listing portals and not much else.
He meant to start something. Instead, someone introduced him to Matterport, founded in 2011, and he could not stop thinking about it. "If we were half right about the potential of what this company represents," he said, "this could be quite a transformative platform." Matterport announced him as CEO on December 3, 2018. The company then had 1.4 million 3D models in its library and about 600 million views.
What Matterport makes is easy to underestimate because most people meet it as a virtual tour on a Zillow listing. The tour is a byproduct. The product is a model of a physical space that is dimensionally accurate to a centimeter or better, which is a different thing from a nice panorama. A single capture can hold 3 million measurements. "No human is ever going to spend the kind of time to get 3 million measurements anywhere," Pittman said, "much less for a bathroom remodel." That precision is what lets a retailer with tens of thousands of stores, and he named Home Depot, Whole Foods, Walgreens, CVS, and Chipotle as customers, check every sprinkler head and fire exit sign in the chain without leaving a desk. He thinks building inspections will go the same way in cities where the permit office is six months behind.
The camera that started the company has one button, the power button, and Pittman credits co-founder and chief scientist David Gausebeck with the discipline behind that: build one thing that works everywhere, in a house or a factory or a 400,000-square-foot warehouse, regardless of who is holding it. He has watched a lot of companies fail the opposite way. "It is so easy for our eyes to get bigger than our stomachs," he said. But the camera was never the point either. By the time of the conversation, Matterport had captured around 40 billion square feet across 177 countries, which is enough data to train models that build 3D geometry from ordinary smartphone photos. There are about 6 billion smartphones in the world and about 4 billion buildings. He does not think the second number is very big.
Then there is what you can do with the model once you have it, which Matterport calls property intelligence: count the recessed lights and outlets, identify a 36-inch stove versus a 48, log the condition of the fixtures. It is an inventory of everything in the building, generated by walking through it with a phone.
None of that made the company easy to run in public. Matterport went public through a merger with Gores Holdings VI in July 2021, at a deal that valued it at roughly $2.9 billion, just as the window for growth stories was closing. The real estate market then went through its worst stretch in decades. In 2024 the company grew subscription revenue 14 percent to $99.6 million on total revenue of $169.7 million, and still lost $256.6 million, $95 million of it a litigation charge tied to a former employee's lawsuit over share restrictions from the SPAC deal. CoStar closed its acquisition on February 28, 2025. The deal, announced the previous April, paid $5.50 a share for a company that had gone public at $10, and put Matterport's enterprise value at roughly $1.6 billion against the $2.3 billion the SPAC had assigned it.
By then the company had 14 million spaces and more than 50 billion square feet under management. Pittman's own summary, posted on LinkedIn, was that they raised money when nobody believed hardware-enabled software could scale, went public as the market turned, kept spending through the downturn, and then found a bigger partner. Whether that is a win depends on what you think the alternative was.
He told the board before he took the job what the alternative was. The company could be interesting, or it could be one for the ages, and the second path might blow a hole in the boat. "If you choose the safe and the easy path," he said, "I'm not the guy." He put that in the same category as his father's bet on the photocopy shops, Tim Cook's bet on him at Apple when Apple was still a products company deciding whether it wanted to be an internet company too, and Marissa Mayer's at Google. He said he tries to pay it back by encouraging the people he manages to take real swings and providing cover when the swings miss. "It's that critical moment where you develop people into the kind of leaders who have the courage and the stamina to fail."
Betts asked him, as someone who runs Silicon Slopes, whether there was ever any thought of building somewhere other than the Bay Area. Pittman has a house in Park City and has invested in Utah companies. He was polite about it. There is no comparison, he said. Silicon Valley is not just more tolerant of a preposterous idea but more willing to nurse one through the years when it looks like a mistake, and the people writing San Francisco's obituary mostly do not live there. He has watched the city empty out and refill before, in 2000, and he sees it happening again now with AI companies moving in.
The thing he seemed most eager to say, though, had nothing to do with 3D. Asked about his typical day, he said he moves his time to wherever the company needs it, product one month, sales the next, but that the part he guards is time with customers, and that most executives have quietly let that go. "It's one of the easiest things for CEOs to talk about and say, be the customer, use your product," he said. "But it's been remarkable to me how elusive that tenant is or how easy it is to deprioritize it." Remote work made it worse. Generative AI, in his view, is about to make it much worse, because it has never been easier to build a beautiful thing nobody wants. "That disconnect right now, Clint, I can tell you, is a country mile apart." So he scans buildings himself and calls into all-hands meetings from customer sites, mostly so that the rest of the company sees him doing it.
The conversation took place while he was still running Matterport. He is not anymore. In May 2026, Extra Space Storage elected him to its board, where he sits on the Audit Committee of a Salt Lake City company that owns more than 4,000 storage facilities across 42 states. The announcement lists his Matterport tenure as 2018 to 2025. Extra Space's chairman said the company wanted him for AI strategy. In the end, it's a lot of buildings.

00:00:25.462 --> 00:00:27.395
You<00:00:25.542> were<00:00:25.719> the<00:00:25.800> director<00:00:26.203> of<00:00:26.283> product<00:00:26.605> management<00:00:27.072> at<00:00:27.105> Google.
00:00:28.182 --> 00:00:31.196
You<00:00:28.262> were<00:00:28.406> the<00:00:28.502> head<00:00:28.743> of<00:00:28.887> worldwide<00:00:29.528> e-commerce<00:00:30.170> platform<00:00:30.747> at<00:00:30.891> Apple.
00:00:31.853 --> 00:00:39.371
You<00:00:31.933> were<00:00:32.013> the<00:00:32.109> chief<00:00:32.590> product<00:00:33.135> officer<00:00:33.712> at<00:00:34.017> eBay<00:00:35.091> and<00:00:35.155> probably<00:00:35.460> the<00:00:35.540> most<00:00:35.716> interesting<00:00:36.181> time<00:00:36.453> of<00:00:36.822> eBay,<00:00:36.918> actually,<00:00:37.720> between<00:00:37.960> 2013,<00:00:38.682> 2018.
00:00:40.044 --> 00:00:45.575
And<00:00:40.108> then<00:00:40.221> you<00:00:40.365> left<00:00:40.926> eBay<00:00:41.471> and<00:00:42.593> in<00:00:42.689> 2018<00:00:43.411> and<00:00:43.555> became<00:00:43.811> the<00:00:43.956> chairman<00:00:44.292> and<00:00:44.372> CEO<00:00:44.693> of<00:00:45.014> Matterport.
00:00:45.671 --> 00:00:52.708
So<00:00:46.376> why<00:00:46.408> don't<00:00:46.617> we<00:00:47.739> start<00:00:48.059> with<00:00:48.204> who<00:00:48.444> are<00:00:48.684> you<00:00:49.165> and<00:00:50.303> how<00:00:50.464> did<00:00:50.624> you<00:00:51.025> get<00:00:51.506> to<00:00:51.746> be<00:00:51.987> where<00:00:52.211> you<00:00:52.307> are<00:00:52.468> today?
00:00:53.493 --> 00:00:55.690
Well,<00:00:54.471> thanks<00:00:54.856> for<00:00:54.952> having<00:00:55.257> me<00:00:55.337> on<00:00:55.433> the<00:00:55.513> show.
00:00:55.754 --> 00:00:56.732
This<00:00:55.978> is<00:00:56.154> great,<00:00:56.475> Clint.
00:00:56.796 --> 00:00:59.809
Good<00:00:56.956> to<00:00:57.100> see<00:00:57.421> you<00:00:57.822> and<00:00:58.142> appreciate<00:00:59.184> the<00:00:59.344> intro.
00:01:00.402 --> 00:01:08.590
Maybe<00:01:01.123> part<00:01:01.364> of<00:01:01.444> how<00:01:01.684> I<00:01:01.844> got<00:01:02.101> to<00:01:03.046> at<00:01:03.126> least<00:01:03.367> some<00:01:03.543> of<00:01:03.607> those<00:01:04.328> destinations<00:01:05.145> you<00:01:05.289> talked<00:01:05.610> about<00:01:05.994> along<00:01:06.251> my<00:01:06.491> journey<00:01:06.956> is<00:01:07.132> the<00:01:07.292> 15<00:01:07.677> years<00:01:07.933> before<00:01:08.254> that.
00:01:09.680 --> 00:01:13.669
I<00:01:09.760> have<00:01:09.936> been<00:01:10.497> a<00:01:10.897> guy<00:01:11.074> in<00:01:11.202> the<00:01:11.234> startup<00:01:11.618> trenches<00:01:12.259> since<00:01:12.644> I<00:01:12.740> was<00:01:12.980> 9<00:01:13.285> years<00:01:13.525> old.
00:01:14.086 --> 00:01:18.717
I<00:01:14.262> think<00:01:15.047> I<00:01:15.224> knew<00:01:15.464> that<00:01:15.624> technology<00:01:16.570> was<00:01:16.746> my<00:01:16.970> calling<00:01:17.371> at<00:01:17.467> a<00:01:17.547> pretty<00:01:17.867> early<00:01:18.492> age.
00:01:19.934 --> 00:01:27.481
I<00:01:20.031> wrote<00:01:20.271> my<00:01:20.367> first<00:01:20.736> business<00:01:21.152> plan<00:01:21.473> at<00:01:21.617> age<00:01:21.857> 14<00:01:22.578> and<00:01:23.235> was<00:01:23.395> turned<00:01:23.716> down<00:01:24.020> multiple<00:01:24.517> times<00:01:24.998> by<00:01:25.174> my<00:01:25.543> lead<00:01:25.719> financier,<00:01:26.360> which<00:01:26.504> happened<00:01:26.744> to<00:01:26.824> be<00:01:26.921> my<00:01:27.145> dad.
00:01:29.200 --> 00:01:47.054
Eventually,<00:01:30.121> he<00:01:30.510> took<00:01:30.752> mercy<00:01:31.238> on<00:01:31.415> me<00:01:31.885> and<00:01:32.564> funded<00:01:32.952> this<00:01:33.178> crazy<00:01:33.664> idea<00:01:34.893> that<00:01:35.039> I<00:01:35.119> was<00:01:35.297> going<00:01:35.621> to<00:01:35.847> transform<00:01:38.110> photocopy<00:01:38.931> shops<00:01:40.043> into<00:01:41.107> desktop<00:01:41.751> publishing<00:01:42.799> juggernauts<00:01:43.588> with<00:01:44.007> this<00:01:44.233> great<00:01:44.571> new<00:01:44.829> invention<00:01:45.779> called<00:01:46.086> the<00:01:46.247> Apple<00:01:46.441> Macintosh.
00:01:47.426 --> 00:01:57.174
So,<00:01:47.813> this<00:01:48.023> was<00:01:49.008> circa<00:01:49.395> 1985,<00:01:50.364> '86,<00:01:51.171> you<00:01:51.203> know,<00:01:51.348> just<00:01:51.655> after<00:01:53.511> Apple<00:01:54.093> and<00:01:54.189> Steve<00:01:54.561> brought<00:01:54.803> that<00:01:55.217> that<00:01:55.394> great<00:01:55.961> groundbreaking<00:01:56.446> product<00:01:56.915> out.

00:02:01.363 --> 00:02:14.060
I<00:02:01.460> actually<00:02:02.026> did<00:02:02.899> go<00:02:03.077> forth<00:02:04.031> and<00:02:04.533> start<00:02:05.003> transforming<00:02:05.813> photocopy<00:02:06.396> shops<00:02:06.736> in<00:02:06.817> a<00:02:06.882> small<00:02:07.206> town<00:02:07.530> in<00:02:07.611> northern<00:02:07.951> Michigan<00:02:09.944> and<00:02:10.106> kept<00:02:10.365> that<00:02:10.592> entrepreneurial<00:02:11.191> streak<00:02:11.564> alive<00:02:12.050> all<00:02:12.212> through<00:02:12.520> school,<00:02:13.282> through<00:02:13.509> college.

The<00:02:24.992> internet<00:02:25.361> was<00:02:25.537> in<00:02:25.617> full<00:02:25.857> swing,<00:02:26.258> but<00:02:26.418> the<00:02:26.498> World<00:02:26.723> Wide<00:02:26.963> Web,<00:02:27.444> you<00:02:27.540> know,<00:02:28.101> really<00:02:28.341> came<00:02:28.582> on<00:02:28.678> the<00:02:28.758> scene<00:02:29.046> in<00:02:29.142> '93,<00:02:29.703> '94,<00:02:30.264> which<00:02:30.424> is<00:02:30.569> right<00:02:30.745> when<00:02:30.889> I<00:02:31.546> was<00:02:32.411> on<00:02:32.508> my<00:02:32.732> way<00:02:32.972> out<00:02:33.293> into,<00:02:34.030> you<00:02:34.126> know,<00:02:34.975> the<00:02:35.071> world<00:02:35.376> in<00:02:35.472> Silicon<00:02:35.937> Valley<00:02:36.578> and<00:02:36.914> seeing<00:02:37.203> what<00:02:37.315> we<00:02:37.395> could<00:02:37.555> do<00:02:37.796> to<00:02:38.276> disrupt<00:02:38.677> some<00:02:38.901> markets<00:02:39.318> and<00:02:39.398> industries.
00:02:40.760 --> 00:02:41.497
That's<00:02:41.001> incredible.
00:02:41.626 --> 00:02:47.875
And<00:02:41.946> was<00:02:42.122> it<00:02:42.186> surreal<00:02:43.789> going<00:02:44.045> to<00:02:44.189> work<00:02:44.382> for<00:02:44.590> Apple,<00:02:45.087> given<00:02:45.327> like<00:02:45.568> that's<00:02:45.872> kind<00:02:46.048> of<00:02:46.128> like<00:02:46.433> the<00:02:46.593> thing<00:02:46.769> that<00:02:46.866> started<00:02:47.314> it<00:02:47.394> all<00:02:47.635> for<00:02:47.795> you?
00:02:48.603 --> 00:02:51.071
It<00:02:48.684> was<00:02:48.830> a<00:02:48.863> pretty<00:02:49.106> full-circle<00:02:50.162> experience,<00:02:50.747> I<00:02:50.779> have<00:02:50.958> to<00:02:51.039> say.
00:02:51.201 --> 00:02:56.702
It<00:02:51.266> was<00:02:51.364> about<00:02:51.542> 30<00:02:52.030> years<00:02:53.069> full<00:02:53.329> circle<00:02:54.368> by<00:02:54.466> the<00:02:54.628> time<00:02:54.936> I,<00:02:55.278> you<00:02:55.359> know,<00:02:55.521> set<00:02:55.846> foot<00:02:56.171> in<00:02:56.219> the<00:02:56.251> doors.
00:02:57.523 --> 00:03:06.224
And<00:02:59.294> I<00:02:59.375> will<00:02:59.471> tell<00:02:59.777> you,<00:03:01.468> on<00:03:01.548> the<00:03:01.629> one<00:03:01.871> hand,<00:03:02.112> it<00:03:02.209> felt<00:03:02.531> like,<00:03:02.933> you<00:03:03.030> know,<00:03:03.239> I'd<00:03:03.400> come<00:03:03.577> a<00:03:03.722> long<00:03:04.044> way<00:03:05.172> to<00:03:05.333> get<00:03:05.574> to<00:03:05.640> that<00:03:05.915> point.
00:03:06.321 --> 00:03:09.291
But<00:03:06.483> then<00:03:07.035> it<00:03:07.116> was<00:03:07.360> an<00:03:07.441> entirely<00:03:08.253> new<00:03:08.512> beginning<00:03:08.983> again.
00:03:09.957 --> 00:03:13.966
And,<00:03:10.200> you<00:03:10.233> know,<00:03:10.379> this<00:03:10.541> was<00:03:10.963> a<00:03:11.028> very<00:03:11.434> interesting<00:03:11.921> period<00:03:12.327> of<00:03:12.408> time<00:03:13.446> for<00:03:13.690> Apple.
00:03:15.088 --> 00:03:18.327
Experiencing<00:03:16.050> an<00:03:16.130> extraordinary<00:03:16.852> inflection<00:03:17.493> point<00:03:17.733> of<00:03:17.830> growth,<00:03:18.214> right?
00:03:18.391 --> 00:03:24.853
So<00:03:19.128> 2010,<00:03:20.780> the<00:03:21.261> iPhone<00:03:22.640> had<00:03:23.105> only<00:03:23.362> been<00:03:23.586> out<00:03:23.763> for<00:03:23.923> a<00:03:24.003> couple<00:03:24.324> of<00:03:24.404> years.
00:03:25.751 --> 00:03:29.712
And<00:03:26.489> the<00:03:26.569> first<00:03:26.873> product<00:03:27.226> that<00:03:27.354> I<00:03:27.435> was<00:03:27.852> part<00:03:28.188> of<00:03:28.333> launching<00:03:28.814> was<00:03:28.974> the<00:03:29.599> iPad.
00:03:29.776 --> 00:03:34.314
So<00:03:30.161> we<00:03:30.241> hadn't<00:03:30.610> seen<00:03:30.818> a<00:03:30.898> tablet<00:03:31.459> done<00:03:31.700> the<00:03:31.844> right<00:03:32.101> way<00:03:33.047> until<00:03:33.464> 2010.
00:03:34.410 --> 00:03:38.451
And<00:03:34.923> so<00:03:35.324> many<00:03:35.629> interesting,<00:03:36.655> groundbreaking<00:03:37.328> innovations<00:03:38.034> from<00:03:38.194> there.
00:03:39.461 --> 00:03:46.180
And<00:03:39.942> having<00:03:40.183> a<00:03:40.199> front<00:03:40.599> row<00:03:40.776> seat<00:03:42.043> to<00:03:42.283> innovation<00:03:42.909> at<00:03:43.085> that<00:03:43.470> kind<00:03:43.727> of<00:03:43.759> scale<00:03:45.154> is<00:03:45.314> really<00:03:45.651> one<00:03:45.828> of<00:03:45.892> a<00:03:45.956> kind.
00:03:46.228 --> 00:03:53.349
I<00:03:46.244> mean,<00:03:46.309> that's<00:03:46.453> what<00:03:47.255> I<00:03:47.335> think<00:03:47.880> all<00:03:48.057> of<00:03:48.217> us<00:03:48.602> as<00:03:49.260> entrepreneurs<00:03:49.901> at<00:03:49.981> heart<00:03:50.286> in<00:03:50.382> some<00:03:50.623> way,<00:03:50.719> shape,<00:03:51.104> or<00:03:51.168> form<00:03:52.531> are<00:03:52.627> really<00:03:52.868> driven<00:03:53.189> to.
00:03:53.670 --> 00:03:56.075
Where<00:03:53.975> can<00:03:54.151> you<00:03:54.231> get<00:03:54.408> that<00:03:54.568> front<00:03:54.873> row<00:03:54.969> seat<00:03:55.258> to<00:03:55.354> high<00:03:55.594> impact?
00:03:56.300 --> 00:04:09.641
And<00:03:57.102> I<00:03:57.182> had<00:03:57.358> some<00:03:57.663> great<00:03:58.625> training<00:03:59.106> in<00:03:59.203> my<00:03:59.363> own<00:03:59.523> startups,<00:04:00.710> but<00:04:00.871> never<00:04:01.127> at<00:04:01.272> this<00:04:01.352> scale,<00:04:02.009> except<00:04:02.394> for<00:04:02.490> the<00:04:02.635> company<00:04:03.372> right<00:04:03.613> before<00:04:04.014> that<00:04:04.399> when<00:04:04.559> I<00:04:04.639> was<00:04:04.800> at<00:04:04.896> Google,<00:04:06.163> also<00:04:06.500> at<00:04:06.580> a<00:04:06.596> very,<00:04:07.141> you<00:04:07.462> transformative<00:04:08.343> period<00:04:08.680> in<00:04:08.760> the<00:04:08.888> company's<00:04:09.305> history.
00:04:09.705 --> 00:04:18.711
We<00:04:09.801> saw,<00:04:10.747> you<00:04:10.843> know,<00:04:10.987> just<00:04:12.093> ridiculous<00:04:12.974> exponential<00:04:13.631> growth<00:04:14.048> in<00:04:14.128> a<00:04:14.192> very<00:04:14.433> short<00:04:14.753> period<00:04:15.058> of<00:04:15.154> time<00:04:15.314> that<00:04:15.394> probably<00:04:15.699> no<00:04:15.875> company<00:04:16.259> in<00:04:16.340> history<00:04:17.461> has<00:04:17.622> ever<00:04:17.798> experienced.
00:04:19.144 --> 00:04:27.541
And<00:04:19.240> to<00:04:19.336> be<00:04:19.480> part<00:04:19.817> of<00:04:19.961> that<00:04:20.202> as<00:04:20.346> well<00:04:20.602> was,<00:04:21.307> you<00:04:21.403> know,<00:04:22.109> very<00:04:22.349> humbling<00:04:23.791> and,<00:04:24.192> you<00:04:24.288> know,<00:04:24.368> challenging,<00:04:25.009> but<00:04:25.153> also<00:04:25.410> a<00:04:25.554> terrific<00:04:26.515> growth<00:04:27.012> opportunity.
00:04:28.759 --> 00:04:29.352
You<00:04:28.791> know<00:04:28.855> what's<00:04:29.015> crazy?
00:04:29.416 --> 00:04:32.300
It's<00:04:29.576> been<00:04:29.881> 14<00:04:30.602> years<00:04:31.018> since<00:04:31.339> the<00:04:31.739> iPad<00:04:31.900> came<00:04:32.140> out.
00:04:32.445 --> 00:04:32.909
That's<00:04:32.621> nothing.
00:04:34.144 --> 00:04:35.121
Isn't<00:04:34.352> that<00:04:34.464> fascinating?
00:04:35.185 --> 00:04:44.579
Like<00:04:35.266> between<00:04:35.747> like,<00:04:36.292> uh,<00:04:37.045> just<00:04:37.350> the<00:04:37.750> advancements<00:04:38.472> in<00:04:38.616> technology<00:04:39.514> and<00:04:39.594> compute<00:04:40.299> and<00:04:40.636> everything,<00:04:41.822> uh,<00:04:41.998> that's<00:04:42.223> happened<00:04:42.559> in<00:04:42.704> 14<00:04:43.104> years,<00:04:43.281> it's<00:04:43.585> kind<00:04:43.762> of<00:04:43.922> mind-blowing.
00:04:44.643 --> 00:04:59.551
And<00:04:44.788> you've<00:04:45.028> had<00:04:45.140> a<00:04:45.188> front<00:04:45.429> row<00:04:45.525> seat<00:04:45.910> to<00:04:46.631> kind<00:04:46.791> of<00:04:46.823> this<00:04:47.048> continuing<00:04:48.234> progress<00:04:48.955> that's<00:04:49.116> happening<00:04:49.468> in<00:04:49.613> technology<00:04:50.254> through<00:04:50.430> these<00:04:50.655> companies<00:04:51.071> like,<00:04:51.777> you<00:04:51.857> know,<00:04:52.242> Google<00:04:52.835> and<00:04:53.123> Apple<00:04:53.845> and<00:04:54.341> being<00:04:54.678> in<00:04:54.822> Silicon<00:04:55.223> Valley<00:04:56.185> building<00:04:56.666> there,<00:04:57.467> which<00:04:57.708> is<00:04:57.788> where<00:04:57.948> you're<00:04:58.333> at<00:04:58.413> with,<00:04:58.654> uh,<00:04:58.974> Matterport.
00:05:00.947 --> 00:05:01.561
What<00:05:01.060> is<00:05:01.190> that<00:05:01.351> like?
00:05:01.610 --> 00:05:07.119
I'd<00:05:01.755> love<00:05:01.916> to<00:05:01.997> hear<00:05:02.094> like<00:05:02.320> you<00:05:02.482> think<00:05:02.724> like<00:05:04.016> 14<00:05:04.501> years,<00:05:06.440> is<00:05:06.472> this<00:05:06.698> crazy?
00:05:07.200 --> 00:05:08.138
Like<00:05:07.426> what<00:05:07.539> is<00:05:07.685> happening?
00:05:08.413 --> 00:05:17.308
Like<00:05:08.639> this,<00:05:08.898> the<00:05:09.060> advancement<00:05:09.626> seems<00:05:10.014> like<00:05:11.081> breathtaking<00:05:11.728> pace<00:05:11.971> and<00:05:12.052> every<00:05:12.294> day<00:05:13.330> with<00:05:13.572> AI<00:05:14.057> and<00:05:14.154> various<00:05:14.623> things,<00:05:14.866> it<00:05:14.898> seems<00:05:15.190> like<00:05:15.367> we're<00:05:15.838> only<00:05:16.019> growing<00:05:16.432> more<00:05:16.680> exponential.
00:05:18.860 --> 00:05:21.841
Yeah,<00:05:19.527> I<00:05:19.772> think<00:05:20.130> there's<00:05:20.765> a<00:05:20.782> new<00:05:21.091> algorithm.
00:05:22.802 --> 00:05:24.365
Moore's<00:05:23.127> Law<00:05:23.356> needs<00:05:23.698> to<00:05:23.795> be<00:05:23.942> updated.
00:05:25.466 --> 00:05:31.037
Because<00:05:26.044> we're<00:05:26.269> moving<00:05:27.473> at<00:05:27.585> a<00:05:27.730> new<00:05:28.115> exponential<00:05:29.496> level<00:05:29.897> of<00:05:30.057> Moore's<00:05:30.443> Law<00:05:30.555> for<00:05:30.780> sure.
00:05:32.064 --> 00:05:36.687
Sensor<00:05:32.546> technology,<00:05:34.697> look<00:05:34.889> at<00:05:34.953> where<00:05:35.178> we<00:05:35.339> are<00:05:35.596> with<00:05:35.772> self-driving<00:05:36.382> cars.
00:05:37.987 --> 00:05:52.242
Everybody<00:05:38.565> just<00:05:38.870> a<00:05:38.951> few<00:05:39.191> years<00:05:39.432> ago<00:05:40.411> wrote<00:05:40.588> it<00:05:40.716> all<00:05:40.957> off<00:05:41.760> as<00:05:42.402> an<00:05:42.498> impossibility,<00:05:43.461> too<00:05:43.702> risky,<00:05:44.890> you<00:05:44.986> know,<00:05:45.468> cars<00:05:45.773> gonna<00:05:45.885> be<00:05:46.190> piled<00:05:46.576> up<00:05:46.752> on<00:05:46.832> the<00:05:46.913> highways,<00:05:47.956> you<00:05:48.117> know,<00:05:49.642> fatalities<00:05:50.910> through<00:05:51.086> the<00:05:51.231> roof,<00:05:51.552> all<00:05:51.584> this<00:05:51.728> sort<00:05:51.969> of<00:05:52.049> thing.
00:05:54.290 --> 00:06:07.344
I<00:05:54.452> will<00:05:54.548> tell<00:05:54.855> you,<00:05:55.258> you<00:05:55.354> know,<00:05:55.580> here<00:05:55.773> in<00:05:55.902> San<00:05:56.080> Francisco,<00:05:56.966> I<00:05:57.047> have<00:05:57.369> two<00:05:58.256> now<00:05:58.578> just<00:05:58.885> rising<00:05:59.384> teenage<00:06:00.013> kids<00:06:01.238> who<00:06:01.464> have<00:06:01.641> never<00:06:01.963> been<00:06:02.995> in<00:06:03.060> their<00:06:03.478> own<00:06:04.123> Uber,<00:06:05.105> but<00:06:05.444> I'm<00:06:05.605> very<00:06:05.975> comfortable<00:06:06.475> putting<00:06:06.716> them<00:06:06.877> in<00:06:06.974> a<00:06:07.022> Waymo.
00:06:08.907 --> 00:06:11.388

00:06:11.774 --> 00:06:13.685
It<00:06:12.422> is<00:06:12.908> fantastic.
00:06:14.041 --> 00:06:18.382
And<00:06:14.608> I<00:06:14.770> couldn't<00:06:15.094> imagine<00:06:16.568> telling<00:06:16.957> you<00:06:17.054> that<00:06:17.524> even<00:06:17.783> two<00:06:17.961> years<00:06:18.269> ago.
00:06:19.027 --> 00:06:25.468
With<00:06:19.750> the<00:06:20.312> rate<00:06:20.489> at<00:06:20.569> which<00:06:20.810> this<00:06:20.971> technology<00:06:22.480> is<00:06:22.577> progressing,<00:06:23.685> much<00:06:23.926> less<00:06:24.247> 14<00:06:24.665> years<00:06:24.970> ago,<00:06:25.147> right?
00:06:26.592 --> 00:06:27.475
Yeah,<00:06:26.753> it's<00:06:26.994> nuts.
00:06:28.584 --> 00:06:38.221
And<00:06:29.146> what<00:06:29.242> I<00:06:29.339> think<00:06:29.563> is<00:06:29.644> interesting<00:06:30.110> is<00:06:30.206> you've<00:06:30.367> kind<00:06:30.591> of<00:06:30.688> seen<00:06:31.314> also<00:06:31.748> the<00:06:32.037> rise<00:06:32.840> and<00:06:33.097> fall,<00:06:33.916> if<00:06:34.045> you<00:06:34.125> can<00:06:34.221> call<00:06:34.478> it<00:06:34.526> a<00:06:34.543> fall,<00:06:35.330> and<00:06:35.490> rise<00:06:35.908> again<00:06:36.374> of<00:06:36.486> Silicon<00:06:36.952> Valley,<00:06:37.835> right?
00:06:38.462 --> 00:06:38.574
Yeah.
00:06:38.702 --> 00:06:42.782
Like,<00:06:39.827> where<00:06:40.068> you're<00:06:40.309> at<00:06:40.614> has<00:06:40.807> changed<00:06:41.208> so<00:06:41.433> dramatically<00:06:41.995> in<00:06:42.091> 14<00:06:42.557> years.
00:06:43.360 --> 00:06:44.372
What<00:06:43.441> has<00:06:43.617> that<00:06:43.858> been<00:06:44.083> like?
00:06:45.527 --> 00:06:50.659
And<00:06:45.575> I'll<00:06:45.896> tell<00:06:46.089> you,<00:06:46.249> I've<00:06:46.730> been<00:06:47.211> in<00:06:47.307> San<00:06:47.548> Francisco<00:06:48.574> for<00:06:49.135> the<00:06:49.231> bulk<00:06:49.552> of<00:06:49.632> that,<00:06:49.761> in<00:06:49.793> fact,<00:06:50.097> all<00:06:50.194> of<00:06:50.274> that<00:06:50.434> time.
00:06:50.899 --> 00:06:57.137
And<00:06:51.060> so,<00:06:51.220> I've<00:06:51.316> been<00:06:51.557> through<00:06:53.000> the<00:06:53.080> boom<00:06:53.321> and<00:06:53.401> bust<00:06:53.866> of<00:06:55.004> '99,<00:06:55.485> 2000,<00:06:56.447> the<00:06:56.528> dot-com<00:06:56.928> bust.
00:06:57.233 --> 00:07:11.809
We<00:06:57.329> were<00:06:57.971> in<00:06:58.051> the<00:06:58.131> middle<00:06:58.596> of<00:06:58.757> that<00:06:59.895> with<00:06:59.991> several<00:07:00.456> different<00:07:00.777> companies<00:07:02.060> going<00:07:02.445> through<00:07:02.621> it,<00:07:03.262> a<00:07:03.327> few<00:07:03.599> successes,<00:07:04.401> a<00:07:04.465> few<00:07:04.642> spectacular<00:07:05.972> crashes<00:07:06.614> and<00:07:06.774> burns,<00:07:08.153> all<00:07:08.249> the<00:07:08.394> battle<00:07:08.650> scars<00:07:09.035> you<00:07:09.131> need<00:07:09.596> to<00:07:10.382> keep<00:07:10.559> going<00:07:10.943> and<00:07:11.264> on<00:07:11.360> to<00:07:11.505> the<00:07:11.537> next.
00:07:13.435 --> 00:07:21.315
But<00:07:15.030> the<00:07:15.191> amazing<00:07:15.675> thing<00:07:16.577> that<00:07:17.044> I<00:07:17.125> will<00:07:17.206> say<00:07:17.463> both<00:07:17.705> about<00:07:17.963> the<00:07:18.044> city<00:07:18.350> but<00:07:18.495> also<00:07:18.817> about<00:07:19.784> the<00:07:19.945> industry<00:07:20.525> is<00:07:20.670> the<00:07:20.751> resilience.
00:07:22.468 --> 00:07:33.815
It<00:07:22.549> is<00:07:22.792> a<00:07:22.808> cycle,<00:07:24.104> much<00:07:24.331> like<00:07:24.493> the<00:07:24.574> real<00:07:24.769> estate<00:07:25.093> cycle,<00:07:25.547> which<00:07:25.790> is<00:07:26.227> related<00:07:26.794> to<00:07:26.875> what<00:07:27.021> I'm<00:07:27.183> doing<00:07:27.491> at<00:07:27.588> the<00:07:27.685> intersection<00:07:28.139> of<00:07:28.253> technology<00:07:28.885> and<00:07:28.966> real<00:07:29.144> estate<00:07:29.452> with<00:07:29.614> Matterport,<00:07:30.930> where<00:07:31.012> almost<00:07:31.292> every<00:07:31.539> 10<00:07:31.853> years<00:07:32.347> you'll<00:07:32.512> go<00:07:32.694> through<00:07:32.858> this<00:07:33.089> boom-bust<00:07:33.518> cycle.
00:07:35.348 --> 00:07:36.898
It's<00:07:35.511> almost<00:07:35.772> a<00:07:35.838> perfect<00:07:36.180> sine<00:07:36.637> curve.
00:07:37.387 --> 00:07:41.865
But<00:07:37.566> if<00:07:37.697> you<00:07:37.876> zoom<00:07:38.267> that<00:07:38.430> curve<00:07:38.838> out,<00:07:39.622> It's<00:07:40.327> a<00:07:40.439> sine<00:07:40.904> wave<00:07:41.288> up<00:07:41.384> and<00:07:41.464> to<00:07:41.609> the<00:07:41.689> right.
00:07:43.211 --> 00:07:49.236
Even<00:07:43.451> in<00:07:43.547> real<00:07:43.724> estate,<00:07:44.669> absolutely<00:07:45.374> in<00:07:45.470> technology,<00:07:47.617> this<00:07:47.938> is<00:07:48.114> the<00:07:48.194> cycle<00:07:48.611> of<00:07:48.739> innovation.
00:07:49.876 --> 00:07:52.504
Crazy<00:07:50.261> ideas<00:07:50.742> like<00:07:50.918> the<00:07:51.383> iPad<00:07:51.479> 14<00:07:51.943> years<00:07:52.200> ago.
00:07:53.305 --> 00:07:58.128
Remember,<00:07:54.779> that<00:07:54.924> was<00:07:55.068> a<00:07:55.148> product<00:07:55.484> where<00:07:56.366> people<00:07:56.622> made<00:07:56.830> fun<00:07:57.071> of<00:07:57.103> the<00:07:57.183> name<00:07:57.567> of<00:07:57.632> the<00:07:57.728> product.
00:07:58.929 --> 00:08:01.493
It<00:07:59.090> looked<00:07:59.314> like<00:07:59.506> a<00:07:59.634> giant<00:08:00.772> smartphone.
00:08:01.557 --> 00:08:04.105
We<00:08:01.637> didn't<00:08:01.894> need<00:08:02.070> another<00:08:02.454> one<00:08:02.615> of<00:08:02.775> those,<00:08:03.095> like<00:08:03.272> a<00:08:03.336> giant<00:08:03.961> iPhone.
00:08:05.403 --> 00:08:07.197
What<00:08:05.579> was<00:08:05.739> so<00:08:05.899> special<00:08:06.380> and<00:08:06.460> unique<00:08:06.797> about<00:08:07.117> it?
00:08:07.390 --> 00:08:11.765
Nobody<00:08:08.141> had<00:08:08.712> successfully<00:08:09.773> created<00:08:10.835> a<00:08:10.916> tablet<00:08:11.423> before.
00:08:11.896 --> 00:08:12.729
Why<00:08:12.076> do<00:08:12.157> we<00:08:12.304> need<00:08:12.484> one<00:08:12.647> now?
00:08:14.846 --> 00:08:28.161
Well,<00:08:15.669> fast<00:08:16.073> forward<00:08:16.879> 14<00:08:17.363> years<00:08:17.622> or<00:08:17.702> through<00:08:18.170> one<00:08:18.348> of<00:08:18.477> these<00:08:18.590> cycles,<00:08:19.219> and<00:08:19.316> now<00:08:19.606> you<00:08:19.768> have<00:08:20.768> a<00:08:20.833> product<00:08:21.236> category<00:08:22.043> from<00:08:22.349> one<00:08:22.591> company<00:08:23.737> that's<00:08:23.898> shipping<00:08:24.302> tens<00:08:24.722> of<00:08:24.867> millions<00:08:25.367> of<00:08:25.513> these<00:08:25.755> devices,<00:08:26.417> these<00:08:26.950> tablets,<00:08:27.596> a<00:08:27.757> quarter.
00:08:28.984 --> 00:08:30.680
A<00:08:29.065> quarter.
00:08:31.891 --> 00:08:37.195
You<00:08:31.988> know,<00:08:32.940> and<00:08:33.103> so<00:08:33.840> I,<00:08:35.317> I<00:08:35.477> observe<00:08:35.911> the<00:08:36.055> pattern<00:08:36.457> of<00:08:36.601> disruption.
00:08:38.383 --> 00:08:43.938
I<00:08:38.544> observe<00:08:39.025> the<00:08:39.106> pattern<00:08:39.587> of<00:08:39.812> rejection<00:08:40.856> of<00:08:41.610> innovation<00:08:43.023> at<00:08:43.119> its<00:08:43.505> onset.
00:08:44.227 --> 00:08:45.881
Again,<00:08:44.484> we<00:08:44.628> talk<00:08:44.789> about<00:08:44.966> self-driving<00:08:45.527> cars.
00:08:45.929 --> 00:09:05.960
We<00:08:45.993> can<00:08:46.154> talk<00:08:46.346> about<00:08:47.197> all<00:08:47.293> kinds<00:08:47.631> of<00:08:47.759> things<00:08:48.080> in<00:08:48.401> AI<00:08:49.686> where,<00:08:50.504> you<00:08:50.601> know,<00:08:50.825> perhaps<00:08:51.227> the<00:08:51.307> more<00:08:51.548> preposterous<00:08:52.351> it<00:08:52.431> seems<00:08:53.699> on<00:08:53.860> the<00:08:53.940> surface,<00:08:54.823> you<00:08:54.935> know,<00:08:55.305> on<00:08:55.481> the<00:08:55.642> open,<00:08:56.525> might<00:08:56.830> actually<00:08:57.488> be<00:08:58.114> the<00:08:58.211> key<00:08:58.451> indicator<00:08:58.917> to<00:08:59.013> just<00:08:59.238> how<00:08:59.495> big<00:08:59.671> it's<00:08:59.816> going<00:09:00.057> to<00:09:00.201> be<00:09:00.378> and<00:09:00.522> how<00:09:00.699> much<00:09:01.246> change<00:09:01.598> or<00:09:01.727> opportunity<00:09:02.545> it's<00:09:02.689> going<00:09:02.865> to<00:09:03.010> create<00:09:04.629> within<00:09:05.094> one<00:09:05.271> of<00:09:05.303> those<00:09:05.463> cycles.
00:09:06.217 --> 00:09:08.237
It's<00:09:06.858> almost<00:09:07.515> like<00:09:07.660> clockwork.
00:09:09.424 --> 00:09:09.600
Yeah.
00:09:09.680 --> 00:09:17.505
And<00:09:09.760> maybe<00:09:10.001> I<00:09:10.081> shouldn't<00:09:10.257> say<00:09:10.482> this,<00:09:10.706> but<00:09:10.787> I<00:09:10.803> still<00:09:11.043> think<00:09:11.268> Silicon—<00:09:11.620> because<00:09:11.909> I<00:09:12.069> run<00:09:12.903> Silicon<00:09:13.352> Slopes,<00:09:13.737> you<00:09:13.865> know,<00:09:14.330> but<00:09:14.491> like<00:09:14.747> Silicon<00:09:15.212> Valley<00:09:15.373> still<00:09:15.757> seems<00:09:15.998> like<00:09:16.335> the<00:09:16.495> place<00:09:16.800> to<00:09:16.896> start<00:09:17.136> a<00:09:17.201> company.
00:09:18.323 --> 00:09:24.513
I<00:09:18.516> mean,<00:09:19.301> when<00:09:19.462> you<00:09:19.606> were<00:09:19.702> starting<00:09:20.809> Matterport,<00:09:21.402> for<00:09:21.610> example,<00:09:22.653> was<00:09:22.749> there<00:09:22.909> any<00:09:23.134> doubt<00:09:23.390> in<00:09:23.454> your<00:09:23.551> mind<00:09:23.935> where<00:09:24.176> you<00:09:24.272> were?
00:09:24.593 --> 00:09:28.441
I<00:09:24.673> mean,<00:09:24.817> obviously<00:09:25.138> you<00:09:25.234> were<00:09:25.956> in<00:09:26.341> the<00:09:26.437> city,<00:09:26.838> you<00:09:26.918> were<00:09:27.142> living<00:09:27.399> there<00:09:27.639> and<00:09:27.784> all<00:09:27.880> that<00:09:28.040> type<00:09:28.201> of<00:09:28.233> stuff.
00:09:28.827 --> 00:09:34.111
But<00:09:28.924> was<00:09:29.069> there<00:09:29.246> even<00:09:29.488> a<00:09:29.568> thought<00:09:30.132> to<00:09:30.374> go<00:09:30.615> anywhere<00:09:30.937> else,<00:09:31.260> or<00:09:31.421> is<00:09:31.582> it—<00:09:31.968> it<00:09:32.146> really<00:09:32.484> is<00:09:32.629> like<00:09:32.806> the<00:09:32.951> innovation<00:09:33.354> capital<00:09:33.740> of<00:09:33.772> the<00:09:33.901> world?
00:09:35.849 --> 00:09:36.560
Without<00:09:36.188> question.
00:09:37.060 --> 00:09:40.839
And<00:09:37.157> to<00:09:37.319> be<00:09:37.480> clear,<00:09:38.836> Matterport's<00:09:39.418> been<00:09:39.563> around<00:09:39.886> for<00:09:40.047> 13<00:09:40.548> years.
00:09:41.097 --> 00:09:45.617
I<00:09:41.194> didn't<00:09:41.436> start<00:09:41.921> it,<00:09:42.066> but<00:09:42.227> I<00:09:42.389> came<00:09:42.712> in<00:09:43.519> as<00:09:43.697> CEO<00:09:44.423> in<00:09:44.891> 2018.
00:09:45.714 --> 00:09:53.362
So<00:09:45.795> I've<00:09:45.875> been<00:09:46.020> there<00:09:46.198> 6<00:09:46.601> years<00:09:48.311> leading<00:09:48.618> us<00:09:48.779> through<00:09:49.893> quite<00:09:51.022> an<00:09:51.345> adventurous<00:09:51.990> growth<00:09:52.990> journey.
00:09:53.539 --> 00:09:54.175
We'll<00:09:53.765> call<00:09:53.849> it<00:09:53.964> that.
00:09:56.656 --> 00:10:00.369
And,<00:09:56.833> but<00:09:57.620> having<00:09:57.958> had<00:09:58.199> the<00:09:58.343> choice,<00:09:58.922> there's<00:09:59.469> no<00:09:59.645> doubt<00:09:59.870> in<00:09:59.951> my<00:10:00.063> mind.
00:10:00.529 --> 00:10:11.003
And<00:10:00.610> I<00:10:00.754> think<00:10:00.931> part<00:10:01.188> of<00:10:01.253> that<00:10:01.478> has<00:10:01.735> been<00:10:02.538> my<00:10:02.699> staying<00:10:03.245> power<00:10:04.387> in<00:10:04.531> the<00:10:04.612> city,<00:10:05.190> in<00:10:05.335> the<00:10:05.480> Bay<00:10:05.594> Area,<00:10:06.310> you<00:10:06.408> know,<00:10:07.288> and<00:10:08.298> Matterport<00:10:08.836> is<00:10:08.917> headquartered<00:10:09.422> right<00:10:09.602> in<00:10:09.667> Sunnyvale<00:10:10.319> in<00:10:10.400> the<00:10:10.482> heart<00:10:10.710> of<00:10:10.807> it<00:10:10.873> all.
00:10:12.360 --> 00:10:17.691
And<00:10:13.656> I've<00:10:13.834> done<00:10:14.061> companies<00:10:14.547> where,<00:10:14.628> in<00:10:14.709> fact,<00:10:14.888> my<00:10:15.050> first<00:10:15.293> company<00:10:15.601> I<00:10:15.617> started<00:10:15.925> out<00:10:16.022> of<00:10:16.054> school<00:10:16.573> was<00:10:16.735> based<00:10:16.994> in<00:10:17.140> London,<00:10:17.415> England.
00:10:18.193 --> 00:10:19.716
I<00:10:18.274> lived<00:10:18.469> in<00:10:18.615> London<00:10:19.003> for<00:10:19.101> a<00:10:19.182> number<00:10:19.490> of<00:10:19.571> years.
00:10:20.587 --> 00:10:26.978
I've<00:10:21.631> invested<00:10:22.193> in<00:10:22.289> companies<00:10:23.237> in<00:10:23.413> New<00:10:23.574> York<00:10:23.815> City<00:10:24.377> and<00:10:24.602> Silicon<00:10:25.132> Valley,<00:10:25.838> Silicon<00:10:26.368> Slopes.
00:10:27.910 --> 00:10:30.463
Park<00:10:28.231> City<00:10:28.648> is<00:10:28.857> my<00:10:29.419> home<00:10:29.676> away<00:10:29.837> from<00:10:30.142> home.
00:10:31.105 --> 00:10:38.203
And<00:10:31.507> I<00:10:31.748> love<00:10:31.988> what's<00:10:32.165> happening<00:10:32.727> in<00:10:33.032> all<00:10:33.209> of<00:10:33.369> these,<00:10:33.835> you<00:10:33.932> know,<00:10:34.172> parts<00:10:34.413> of<00:10:34.445> the<00:10:34.558> country,<00:10:34.815> but<00:10:34.895> also<00:10:35.136> parts<00:10:35.473> of<00:10:35.537> the<00:10:35.618> world<00:10:36.501> where<00:10:36.742> we're<00:10:36.967> building<00:10:37.288> hubs<00:10:37.641> of<00:10:37.769> innovation.
00:10:38.267 --> 00:10:38.797
No<00:10:38.428> doubt<00:10:38.604> about<00:10:38.733> it.
00:10:38.894 --> 00:10:47.822
We<00:10:39.054> have<00:10:39.632> to<00:10:39.793> do<00:10:39.953> that<00:10:40.194> because<00:10:40.596> there<00:10:40.692> are<00:10:41.479> fantastic<00:10:42.282> economies,<00:10:42.764> fantastic<00:10:43.326> talent<00:10:43.727> pools,<00:10:44.691> universities,<00:10:46.120> ecosystems<00:10:46.778> that<00:10:46.858> we<00:10:47.003> want<00:10:47.164> to<00:10:47.260> tap<00:10:47.581> into.
00:10:47.886 --> 00:10:50.327
And<00:10:47.967> a<00:10:47.983> lot<00:10:48.143> of<00:10:48.223> companies<00:10:48.529> I<00:10:48.609> work<00:10:48.769> for<00:10:48.866> are<00:10:49.026> global,<00:10:49.428> including<00:10:49.829> Matterport.
00:10:50.729 --> 00:11:00.428
So,<00:10:50.937> I<00:10:51.034> need<00:10:51.275> that<00:10:51.499> talent,<00:10:52.142> you<00:10:52.222> know,<00:10:53.041> to<00:10:53.764> wherever<00:10:54.149> it<00:10:54.390> exists,<00:10:54.743> and<00:10:54.808> especially<00:10:55.530> in<00:10:55.611> these<00:10:56.317> international<00:10:56.799> markets<00:10:57.217> where<00:10:57.779> you<00:10:57.859> want<00:10:57.987> to<00:10:58.020> take<00:10:58.325> your<00:10:58.501> company<00:10:59.465> to<00:10:59.609> grow<00:10:59.866> and<00:10:59.947> expand.
00:11:01.071 --> 00:11:13.854
But<00:11:02.195> in<00:11:02.339> terms<00:11:02.837> of,<00:11:03.319> you<00:11:03.415> know,<00:11:04.106> the<00:11:04.202> foundation<00:11:05.021> and<00:11:05.150> the<00:11:05.230> fundamental<00:11:05.824> ecosystem<00:11:06.451> you<00:11:06.531> need<00:11:06.692> to<00:11:06.852> start<00:11:07.238> a<00:11:07.254> company,<00:11:08.201> to<00:11:08.297> fund<00:11:08.635> a<00:11:08.699> company,<00:11:09.084> to<00:11:09.245> foster<00:11:09.807> it,<00:11:10.610> there<00:11:10.947> is<00:11:11.493> really<00:11:11.911> no<00:11:12.136> comparison<00:11:13.436> to<00:11:13.581> Silicon<00:11:13.758> Valley.
00:11:14.143 --> 00:11:34.276
After<00:11:14.464> all<00:11:14.657> of<00:11:14.737> these<00:11:14.978> years<00:11:15.364> and<00:11:15.845> many<00:11:16.167> of<00:11:16.391> these,<00:11:16.729> you<00:11:16.825> know,<00:11:16.970> investments,<00:11:17.500> which<00:11:17.630> again,<00:11:17.924> I'm<00:11:18.837> super<00:11:19.245> excited<00:11:19.653> about<00:11:19.914> and<00:11:20.044> fully<00:11:20.223> support,<00:11:22.516> even<00:11:22.678> in<00:11:22.841> the<00:11:22.939> toughest<00:11:23.492> of<00:11:23.573> times<00:11:24.224> or<00:11:25.119> the<00:11:25.298> biggest<00:11:25.786> and<00:11:26.176> sharpest<00:11:26.762> of<00:11:26.843> downturns,<00:11:28.420> Silicon<00:11:28.678> Valley<00:11:28.920> is<00:11:29.016> still<00:11:29.646> orders<00:11:29.985> of<00:11:30.081> magnitude<00:11:32.324> more<00:11:32.550> enabling<00:11:33.276> for<00:11:33.615> companies.
00:11:34.567 --> 00:11:52.173
And<00:11:34.648> I<00:11:34.744> would<00:11:34.906> also<00:11:35.228> say,<00:11:37.750> not<00:11:37.929> just<00:11:38.157> more<00:11:38.335> tolerant,<00:11:38.904> but<00:11:39.066> more<00:11:39.229> nurturing<00:11:40.106> of<00:11:40.204> some<00:11:40.447> of<00:11:40.594> these<00:11:40.919> really<00:11:41.260> big<00:11:41.991> preposterous<00:11:43.180> disruptive<00:11:43.774> ideas<00:11:44.978> where<00:11:45.123> you<00:11:45.299> need<00:11:45.460> that<00:11:45.701> kind<00:11:45.942> of<00:11:46.086> infrastructure<00:11:46.825> to<00:11:46.970> support<00:11:47.403> the<00:11:47.532> fragility<00:11:48.608> of<00:11:48.672> some<00:11:48.929> of<00:11:49.009> this<00:11:49.218> crazy<00:11:49.619> thinking<00:11:49.957> that<00:11:50.117> just<00:11:50.278> might<00:11:50.519> be,<00:11:51.000> you<00:11:51.097> know,<00:11:51.466> the<00:11:51.546> next<00:11:51.803> big<00:11:51.964> thing.
00:11:52.928 --> 00:11:53.875
I<00:11:53.008> think<00:11:53.152> you're<00:11:53.249> exactly<00:11:53.650> right.
00:11:54.036 --> 00:11:55.577
I<00:11:54.052> don't<00:11:54.212> think<00:11:54.373> there's<00:11:54.533> any<00:11:54.758> question<00:11:55.096> about<00:11:55.481> it.
00:11:56.059 --> 00:12:05.823
It<00:11:56.204> is<00:11:56.300> interesting<00:11:56.782> though,<00:11:56.942> like<00:11:57.167> when<00:11:57.328> you<00:11:57.520> had<00:11:57.810> like<00:11:58.468> this<00:11:58.693> little<00:11:58.950> wave<00:11:59.448> of<00:11:59.817> people<00:12:00.154> leaving<00:12:00.540> the<00:12:00.620> city,<00:12:00.941> and<00:12:00.989> I<00:12:01.005> don't<00:12:01.182> know,<00:12:01.359> like<00:12:01.584> when<00:12:01.664> you<00:12:01.760> turn<00:12:01.985> on<00:12:02.081> like,<00:12:02.804> well,<00:12:02.965> certain<00:12:03.366> news<00:12:03.671> outlets,<00:12:04.169> it's<00:12:04.265> like<00:12:04.426> San<00:12:04.876> Francisco's<00:12:05.454> burning.
00:12:06.176 --> 00:12:10.079
Like<00:12:06.321> it's<00:12:06.578> just,<00:12:06.883> then<00:12:07.445> you<00:12:07.686> go<00:12:07.782> to<00:12:07.879> San<00:12:08.088> Francisco,<00:12:08.569> it's<00:12:08.666> like,<00:12:08.826> eh,<00:12:08.971> it's<00:12:09.147> actually<00:12:09.629> just<00:12:09.854> fine.
00:12:10.546 --> 00:12:13.674
And<00:12:11.127> so<00:12:11.691> what<00:12:11.804> do<00:12:11.852> you<00:12:12.013> make<00:12:12.271> of<00:12:12.336> like<00:12:12.561> how<00:12:12.755> it's<00:12:12.981> talked<00:12:13.400> about?
00:12:13.867 --> 00:12:16.931
Not<00:12:14.029> to<00:12:14.190> belabor<00:12:14.593> this<00:12:14.706> because<00:12:14.915> this<00:12:15.093> isn't<00:12:15.705> a<00:12:15.786> show<00:12:16.028> about<00:12:16.221> San<00:12:16.447> Francisco.
00:12:18.872 --> 00:12:30.437
I,<00:12:19.258> you<00:12:19.354> know,<00:12:20.865> haven't<00:12:21.122> took<00:12:21.282> to<00:12:21.427> social<00:12:21.861> media<00:12:22.166> as<00:12:22.327> much<00:12:23.194> until<00:12:23.516> more<00:12:23.692> recently<00:12:24.174> just<00:12:24.415> because<00:12:24.737> I<00:12:24.817> felt<00:12:25.058> compelled<00:12:26.745> to<00:12:27.452> rebut<00:12:27.870> some<00:12:28.175> of<00:12:28.320> those<00:12:28.594> statements<00:12:29.015> because<00:12:29.160> people<00:12:29.402> just<00:12:29.564> love<00:12:29.726> to<00:12:29.807> stir<00:12:30.065> the<00:12:30.194> pot.
00:12:30.599 --> 00:12:36.159
And<00:12:30.841> all<00:12:31.100> of<00:12:31.180> those<00:12:31.342> people<00:12:31.827> that,<00:12:32.134> you<00:12:32.166> know,<00:12:32.473> fling<00:12:32.716> that<00:12:32.942> into<00:12:33.282> the<00:12:33.427> news<00:12:33.686> and<00:12:33.783> in<00:12:33.847> the<00:12:33.944> media<00:12:35.205> don't<00:12:35.448> actually<00:12:35.868> live<00:12:36.094> here.
00:12:36.466 --> 00:12:38.340
Oh,<00:12:36.786> I<00:12:36.962> came<00:12:37.203> through<00:12:37.427> for<00:12:37.523> a<00:12:37.603> business<00:12:38.004> trip.
00:12:38.388 --> 00:12:39.494
I<00:12:38.484> took<00:12:38.709> these<00:12:38.949> photos.
00:12:40.648 --> 00:12:42.618
Boy,<00:12:41.529> this<00:12:41.913> town<00:12:42.154> is<00:12:42.314> dead.
00:12:43.516 --> 00:12:50.005
And<00:12:44.637> translation,<00:12:46.079> hey,<00:12:46.480> I<00:12:46.576> can<00:12:46.800> actually<00:12:47.217> drive<00:12:47.601> from<00:12:47.762> one<00:12:47.922> end<00:12:48.082> of<00:12:48.162> the<00:12:48.226> city<00:12:48.643> in<00:12:48.739> less<00:12:48.979> than<00:12:49.139> an<00:12:49.220> hour<00:12:49.524> for<00:12:49.684> a<00:12:49.700> change.
00:12:50.181 --> 00:12:54.843
I<00:12:50.261> can<00:12:50.421> actually<00:12:50.822> find<00:12:51.126> parking<00:12:52.088> and<00:12:52.664> get<00:12:52.825> a<00:12:52.905> table<00:12:53.289> at<00:12:53.321> a<00:12:53.385> restaurant,<00:12:53.786> which<00:12:53.946> are<00:12:54.026> not<00:12:54.251> empty,<00:12:54.507> by<00:12:54.747> the<00:12:54.811> way.
00:12:54.908 --> 00:12:55.789
They<00:12:55.068> are<00:12:55.148> full<00:12:55.532> up.
00:12:57.151 --> 00:13:04.569
But<00:12:57.391> you're<00:12:58.513> back<00:12:58.753> to<00:12:58.833> a<00:12:58.913> little<00:12:59.138> bit<00:12:59.298> of<00:12:59.378> civility<00:13:00.580> versus<00:13:01.717> where<00:13:02.038> it<00:13:02.198> can<00:13:02.358> get<00:13:02.839> crazy<00:13:03.239> in<00:13:03.319> those<00:13:03.560> peaks,<00:13:03.896> number<00:13:04.201> one.
00:13:05.228 --> 00:13:12.635
But<00:13:05.389> too,<00:13:05.582> I'll<00:13:05.727> tell<00:13:05.953> you,<00:13:06.355> you<00:13:06.387> know,<00:13:07.096> this<00:13:07.321> particular<00:13:08.062> one<00:13:09.898> has<00:13:10.155> been,<00:13:10.461> you<00:13:10.542> know,<00:13:10.880> more<00:13:11.041> painful,<00:13:11.363> but<00:13:11.508> it's<00:13:11.669> true<00:13:11.846> in<00:13:11.926> every<00:13:12.104> city,<00:13:12.474> right?
00:13:12.715 --> 00:13:20.959
Every<00:13:13.037> major<00:13:13.456> city<00:13:13.843> was<00:13:14.020> hit<00:13:14.310> super<00:13:14.648> hard<00:13:14.970> from<00:13:15.131> COVID<00:13:16.193> The<00:13:16.338> return<00:13:16.693> to<00:13:16.837> work<00:13:17.143> has<00:13:17.401> not<00:13:17.659> at<00:13:17.787> all,<00:13:18.367> you<00:13:18.528> know,<00:13:19.092> materialized<00:13:19.961> like<00:13:20.138> the<00:13:20.219> way<00:13:20.380> people<00:13:20.702> thought.
00:13:21.008 --> 00:13:24.635
So,<00:13:21.088> that's<00:13:21.249> had<00:13:21.410> all<00:13:21.507> kinds<00:13:21.748> of<00:13:21.829> impacts<00:13:22.296> on<00:13:22.489> economies<00:13:23.198> in<00:13:23.310> New<00:13:23.423> York,<00:13:23.810> LA,<00:13:23.923> Chicago.
00:13:24.910 --> 00:13:26.497
I<00:13:24.975> mean,<00:13:25.121> you<00:13:25.218> pick<00:13:25.461> your<00:13:25.558> cities,<00:13:26.043> it's<00:13:26.254> real.
00:13:27.387 --> 00:13:44.004
And<00:13:27.711> it's<00:13:27.953> real<00:13:28.148> in<00:13:28.277> San<00:13:28.455> Francisco,<00:13:29.022> but<00:13:29.200> I'll<00:13:29.345> tell<00:13:29.572> you,<00:13:30.867> it's<00:13:31.045> so<00:13:31.369> familiar<00:13:32.016> to<00:13:32.113> me<00:13:32.913> to<00:13:33.057> the<00:13:33.137> same<00:13:33.619> thing<00:13:33.795> that<00:13:33.940> happened<00:13:34.277> in<00:13:34.357> the<00:13:34.502> Exodus<00:13:35.176> in<00:13:35.320> 2000<00:13:36.283> in<00:13:36.364> the<00:13:36.444> dot-com<00:13:36.925> bust<00:13:38.033> and<00:13:38.675> vacancy<00:13:39.157> rates<00:13:39.494> and<00:13:39.638> all<00:13:39.831> those<00:13:40.200> startup<00:13:41.259> warehouses<00:13:41.982> and<00:13:42.142> buildings<00:13:42.527> right<00:13:42.704> around<00:13:42.945> my<00:13:43.041> neighborhood<00:13:43.506> where<00:13:43.651> I<00:13:43.811> live.
00:13:44.614 --> 00:13:47.006
Everything,<00:13:45.352> you<00:13:45.449> know,<00:13:46.396> emptied<00:13:46.781> out.
00:13:47.182 --> 00:13:52.736
And<00:13:47.279> a<00:13:47.359> lot<00:13:47.600> of<00:13:47.680> people<00:13:47.985> that<00:13:48.145> came<00:13:48.386> looking<00:13:48.643> for<00:13:48.803> gold<00:13:49.189> headed<00:13:49.445> back<00:13:49.750> home,<00:13:50.409> went<00:13:50.569> back<00:13:50.794> to<00:13:50.890> the<00:13:50.970> East<00:13:51.115> Coast,<00:13:51.356> wherever<00:13:51.612> they<00:13:52.158> came<00:13:52.415> from.
00:13:53.073 --> 00:13:55.015
And<00:13:53.121> we<00:13:53.218> got<00:13:53.458> the<00:13:53.539> city<00:13:53.860> back<00:13:54.116> to<00:13:54.165> ourselves<00:13:54.662> for<00:13:54.807> a<00:13:54.887> while.
00:13:55.561 --> 00:14:00.617
And<00:13:55.641> it<00:13:55.705> wasn't<00:13:56.107> before<00:13:56.492> long<00:13:57.230> that<00:13:57.375> that<00:13:57.487> cycle<00:13:57.953> just<00:13:58.193> started<00:13:58.579> revving<00:13:58.916> up<00:13:59.076> again<00:13:59.558> and<00:13:59.638> we<00:13:59.782> were<00:13:59.943> right<00:14:00.120> back<00:14:00.425> in<00:14:00.521> it.
00:14:00.842 --> 00:14:01.725
But<00:14:00.987> at<00:14:01.083> a<00:14:01.147> higher<00:14:01.484> level.
00:14:02.512 --> 00:14:04.617
And<00:14:02.609> there's<00:14:02.786> no<00:14:02.930> question<00:14:03.396> in<00:14:03.476> my<00:14:03.508> mind<00:14:03.749> it's<00:14:03.878> happening<00:14:04.295> right<00:14:04.456> now.
00:14:04.681 --> 00:14:05.388
You<00:14:04.777> see<00:14:05.034> it<00:14:05.115> again.
00:14:05.918 --> 00:14:07.203
It<00:14:06.062> is<00:14:06.287> like<00:14:06.448> clockwork.
00:14:08.150 --> 00:14:12.536
People<00:14:08.456> have<00:14:08.616> woken<00:14:08.938> up<00:14:09.050> and<00:14:09.178> said,<00:14:09.355> hey,<00:14:09.821> there's<00:14:10.062> actually<00:14:10.399> space,<00:14:11.202> you<00:14:11.299> know,<00:14:11.668> in<00:14:11.765> the<00:14:11.845> city<00:14:12.230> again.
00:14:12.873 --> 00:14:14.383
It's—<00:14:13.355> you<00:14:13.435> can<00:14:13.612> move<00:14:13.772> about<00:14:14.013> the<00:14:14.094> city.
00:14:14.961 --> 00:14:22.254
You<00:14:15.057> can<00:14:15.218> get<00:14:15.443> good<00:14:15.684> deals<00:14:16.085> on<00:14:16.728> real<00:14:16.905> estate<00:14:17.387> and<00:14:17.531> rent<00:14:17.724> for<00:14:18.495> living<00:14:19.057> and<00:14:19.234> for<00:14:19.780> office,<00:14:20.101> better<00:14:20.294> than<00:14:20.390> it's<00:14:20.519> been<00:14:21.258> in<00:14:21.402> many,<00:14:21.659> many<00:14:21.884> years.
00:14:22.912 --> 00:14:26.109
And<00:14:23.008> so<00:14:23.233> you<00:14:23.330> have<00:14:23.474> huge<00:14:24.117> investments<00:14:24.695> coming<00:14:25.016> back<00:14:25.354> into<00:14:25.659> the<00:14:25.739> city.
00:14:26.622 --> 00:14:31.472
Like<00:14:26.783> we<00:14:26.928> haven't<00:14:27.201> seen<00:14:27.987> buying<00:14:28.389> buildings,<00:14:29.898> moving<00:14:30.299> in,<00:14:30.540> moving<00:14:30.797> companies<00:14:31.423> in.
00:14:31.664 --> 00:14:37.027
AI<00:14:32.066> has<00:14:32.242> now,<00:14:32.708> you<00:14:32.804> know,<00:14:32.949> found<00:14:33.270> a<00:14:33.350> new<00:14:33.511> headquarters<00:14:34.330> in<00:14:34.410> the<00:14:34.490> city<00:14:35.598> and<00:14:35.759> we're<00:14:35.855> just<00:14:36.080> in<00:14:36.160> the<00:14:36.273> early<00:14:36.578> innings<00:14:36.835> again.
00:14:37.300 --> 00:14:38.713
It's<00:14:37.846> fun<00:14:38.023> to<00:14:38.183> watch<00:14:38.569> it.
00:14:39.388 --> 00:14:42.856
You<00:14:39.468> stay<00:14:39.773> here<00:14:39.950> long<00:14:40.207> enough,<00:14:40.592> you<00:14:40.688> know,<00:14:41.314> you're<00:14:41.411> going<00:14:41.587> to<00:14:41.732> see<00:14:42.037> the<00:14:42.198> pattern<00:14:42.519> repeat.
00:14:43.723 --> 00:14:45.168
Yeah,<00:14:44.189> that's<00:14:44.365> actually<00:14:44.606> incredible.
00:14:45.409 --> 00:14:50.274
Tell<00:14:45.553> us<00:14:45.650> about<00:14:45.891> Matterport<00:14:46.677> and<00:14:46.758> how<00:14:46.934> you<00:14:47.095> got<00:14:47.336> to<00:14:47.416> be<00:14:47.577> there,<00:14:47.689> because<00:14:47.962> like<00:14:48.123> you<00:14:48.155> said,<00:14:48.379> you<00:14:48.412> didn't<00:14:48.620> found<00:14:48.797> it<00:14:48.861> and<00:14:48.941> you<00:14:49.086> came<00:14:49.279> in<00:14:49.407> in<00:14:49.503> 2018.
00:14:50.852 --> 00:14:54.481
What<00:14:51.350> drove<00:14:51.832> you<00:14:52.073> to<00:14:52.313> come<00:14:52.538> in<00:14:52.699> here<00:14:52.940> and<00:14:53.100> lead<00:14:53.277> this<00:14:53.582> company<00:14:53.999> and<00:14:54.080> share<00:14:54.401> it?
00:14:55.740 --> 00:14:55.869
Yeah.
00:14:56.322 --> 00:15:03.717
My<00:14:56.419> pattern<00:14:56.969> of,<00:14:59.235> you<00:14:59.332> know,<00:14:59.882> I<00:14:59.979> guess<00:15:00.222> my<00:15:00.384> career<00:15:00.853> trajectory<00:15:02.245> is<00:15:02.325> a<00:15:02.390> combination<00:15:02.957> of<00:15:02.989> a<00:15:03.037> couple<00:15:03.296> of<00:15:03.377> things.
00:15:03.847 --> 00:15:07.828
One,<00:15:04.494> you<00:15:04.591> know,<00:15:05.530> grab<00:15:05.626> hold<00:15:05.738> of<00:15:05.803> things<00:15:06.189> that<00:15:06.606> you're<00:15:06.751> deeply<00:15:07.089> passionate<00:15:07.635> about.
00:15:07.892 --> 00:15:12.232
But<00:15:08.037> two,<00:15:08.857> where<00:15:09.001> can<00:15:09.114> you<00:15:09.242> go<00:15:09.419> and<00:15:09.644> actually<00:15:09.966> have<00:15:10.126> a<00:15:10.143> sizable,<00:15:10.802> if<00:15:10.946> not<00:15:11.252> outsized<00:15:11.766> impact?
00:15:12.377 --> 00:15:19.348
And<00:15:12.489> not<00:15:12.714> just<00:15:12.875> an<00:15:12.971> impact<00:15:13.277> personally,<00:15:13.839> that's<00:15:14.145> really<00:15:14.306> important,<00:15:15.619> but<00:15:15.781> also<00:15:16.575> I<00:15:16.656> would<00:15:16.770> say<00:15:17.143> from<00:15:17.402> an<00:15:17.483> industry<00:15:18.132> and<00:15:18.359> commercial<00:15:18.942> perspective.
00:15:21.180 --> 00:15:35.986
As<00:15:21.326> long<00:15:21.520> as<00:15:21.649> I've<00:15:21.747> been<00:15:21.892> doing<00:15:22.459> and<00:15:22.556> chasing<00:15:23.123> the<00:15:23.269> dreams<00:15:23.690> of<00:15:23.771> technology<00:15:24.646> and<00:15:24.727> my<00:15:24.905> passion,<00:15:26.740> I've<00:15:26.804> had<00:15:27.078> a<00:15:27.754> sort<00:15:28.061> of<00:15:28.222> a<00:15:28.608> quiet<00:15:29.027> passion<00:15:29.817> right<00:15:30.058> alongside<00:15:30.703> that<00:15:31.122> in<00:15:31.267> real<00:15:31.460> estate<00:15:31.927> design,<00:15:32.572> architecture,<00:15:35.375> and<00:15:35.440> development.
00:15:36.677 --> 00:15:57.062
Going<00:15:36.999> back<00:15:37.320> to,<00:15:37.947> you<00:15:38.044> know,<00:15:38.687> my<00:15:38.847> younger<00:15:39.249> years,<00:15:41.082> I<00:15:41.242> was<00:15:41.741> kind<00:15:41.918> of<00:15:42.046> taken<00:15:42.770> all<00:15:42.866> across<00:15:43.332> town<00:15:44.237> into<00:15:44.484> different<00:15:44.798> neighborhoods<00:15:45.869> because<00:15:46.622> My<00:15:46.865> mom<00:15:47.768> saw<00:15:48.010> this<00:15:48.398> great<00:15:48.785> opportunity<00:15:49.608> to<00:15:50.738> buy<00:15:50.980> houses<00:15:51.932> undervalued<00:15:52.529> in<00:15:52.594> the<00:15:52.675> markets<00:15:53.401> where<00:15:54.030> all<00:15:54.111> they<00:15:54.289> needed<00:15:54.531> was<00:15:54.627> some<00:15:54.853> TLC,<00:15:55.580> some<00:15:55.806> renovation<00:15:56.385> and<00:15:56.466> restoration.
00:15:57.110 --> 00:16:02.570
They<00:15:57.191> could<00:15:57.352> be<00:15:57.497> great<00:15:57.674> places<00:15:57.996> to<00:15:58.157> live,<00:15:58.383> but<00:15:58.463> they<00:15:58.560> could<00:15:58.705> also<00:15:58.882> be<00:15:59.027> great<00:15:59.220> investments<00:16:00.331> that<00:16:00.493> you<00:16:00.637> could<00:16:00.750> sell<00:16:01.201> and<00:16:01.282> then<00:16:01.459> go<00:16:01.620> on<00:16:01.781> to<00:16:01.926> the<00:16:01.958> next<00:16:02.280> house.
00:16:02.731 --> 00:16:13.929
And<00:16:03.472> I<00:16:03.553> found<00:16:03.859> myself<00:16:04.616> in<00:16:04.745> this<00:16:04.922> journey<00:16:05.632> of<00:16:05.745> design-build,<00:16:06.859> design-build,<00:16:09.361> not<00:16:09.603> by<00:16:09.829> choice,<00:16:10.249> but<00:16:10.410> kind<00:16:10.668> of<00:16:10.813> by<00:16:10.975> necessity<00:16:11.491> because<00:16:11.701> these<00:16:11.863> were<00:16:11.943> the<00:16:12.089> houses<00:16:12.508> that<00:16:12.912> we<00:16:13.057> actually<00:16:13.461> had<00:16:13.558> to<00:16:13.719> live<00:16:13.897> in.
00:16:14.172 --> 00:16:27.770
And<00:16:14.268> so,<00:16:14.557> if<00:16:14.718> I<00:16:14.815> wanted<00:16:15.136> a<00:16:15.217> bathroom<00:16:16.262> and<00:16:16.422> my<00:16:16.647> own<00:16:16.824> bedroom<00:16:17.226> and<00:16:17.307> my<00:16:17.467> own<00:16:17.628> closet<00:16:18.255> built<00:16:18.577> out<00:16:18.689> in<00:16:18.818> this<00:16:18.995> last<00:16:19.380> project<00:16:19.959> that<00:16:20.104> I<00:16:20.265> was<00:16:20.425> dropped<00:16:20.763> into<00:16:21.245> for<00:16:21.454> my<00:16:21.647> senior<00:16:22.129> year<00:16:22.290> of<00:16:22.371> high<00:16:22.580> school,<00:16:24.218> I<00:16:24.639> was<00:16:24.866> tasked<00:16:25.434> with<00:16:25.694> spending<00:16:26.180> my<00:16:26.359> summer<00:16:27.316> building<00:16:27.640> one.
00:16:28.451 --> 00:16:40.238
So,<00:16:28.613> I<00:16:28.775> got<00:16:29.570> a<00:16:29.732> real<00:16:30.057> up-close<00:16:31.625> experience<00:16:32.417> and<00:16:32.562> taste<00:16:33.290> of<00:16:33.953> really,<00:16:34.341> I'd<00:16:34.438> say,<00:16:35.327> the<00:16:35.472> physical<00:16:35.877> world<00:16:36.620> and<00:16:36.701> at<00:16:36.847> the<00:16:36.960> intersection<00:16:37.574> of<00:16:37.671> technology,<00:16:38.479> which<00:16:38.722> would<00:16:39.288> really<00:16:39.530> fuel<00:16:39.694> my<00:16:39.864> career.
00:16:41.625 --> 00:16:46.568
The<00:16:41.769> power<00:16:42.090> of<00:16:42.186> this<00:16:42.331> hands-on<00:16:42.828> industry<00:16:43.615> and<00:16:44.096> the<00:16:44.177> power<00:16:44.433> of<00:16:44.530> the<00:16:44.658> real<00:16:44.835> estate<00:16:45.156> industry<00:16:45.557> to<00:16:45.653> me<00:16:45.798> was<00:16:45.958> quite<00:16:46.119> compelling.
00:16:47.643 --> 00:16:53.036
But<00:16:47.740> it<00:16:47.804> wasn't<00:16:48.045> something<00:16:48.317> I<00:16:48.430> ever<00:16:48.606> thought<00:16:48.863> that,<00:16:49.168> you<00:16:49.264> know,<00:16:49.329> I<00:16:49.473> was<00:16:49.569> going<00:16:49.714> to<00:16:49.874> pursue<00:16:50.532> and,<00:16:51.720> you<00:16:51.832> know,<00:16:52.041> do<00:16:52.137> much<00:16:52.458> more<00:16:52.699> of<00:16:52.795> than<00:16:52.940> that.
00:16:53.100 --> 00:17:01.254
But<00:16:53.245> I<00:16:53.341> gained<00:16:53.518> a<00:16:53.726> real<00:16:53.983> appreciation<00:16:55.733> for<00:16:55.861> the<00:16:55.973> spaces<00:16:56.391> we<00:16:56.567> live<00:16:56.856> in,<00:16:57.659> the<00:16:57.739> spaces<00:16:58.156> we<00:16:58.317> work<00:16:58.622> in,<00:16:58.734> the<00:16:58.798> spaces<00:16:59.103> we<00:16:59.215> play<00:16:59.520> in,<00:16:59.665> we<00:16:59.761> go<00:16:59.922> travel<00:17:00.259> and<00:17:00.387> we're<00:17:00.467> on<00:17:00.644> vacation.
00:17:02.233 --> 00:17:06.101
And<00:17:02.345> so,<00:17:02.586> I<00:17:02.650> pay<00:17:02.795> attention<00:17:04.095> to<00:17:04.191> design<00:17:04.592> and<00:17:04.721> architecture<00:17:05.282> just<00:17:05.443> about<00:17:05.619> everywhere<00:17:05.844> I<00:17:06.005> go.
00:17:06.907 --> 00:17:23.249
And<00:17:06.987> so,<00:17:07.229> I<00:17:07.391> knew<00:17:07.633> perhaps<00:17:08.101> later<00:17:08.423> in<00:17:08.520> my<00:17:08.681> career<00:17:09.069> that<00:17:09.182> at<00:17:09.311> some<00:17:09.569> point<00:17:09.827> in<00:17:09.956> time<00:17:10.440> after<00:17:11.344> then<00:17:11.570> chasing<00:17:12.070> a<00:17:12.151> number<00:17:12.538> of<00:17:12.780> my<00:17:13.022> own<00:17:14.168> projects<00:17:14.974> in<00:17:15.136> the<00:17:15.281> real<00:17:15.523> estate<00:17:15.830> and<00:17:15.942> design-build<00:17:16.588> category,<00:17:17.555> the<00:17:17.797> house<00:17:18.104> I<00:17:18.200> live<00:17:18.378> in<00:17:18.604> San<00:17:18.846> Francisco,<00:17:19.636> I<00:17:19.797> designed<00:17:20.233> and<00:17:20.378> built<00:17:20.604> myself<00:17:21.023> while<00:17:21.265> doing<00:17:21.523> a<00:17:21.588> tech<00:17:21.813> startup<00:17:22.942> alongside.
00:17:25.662 --> 00:17:32.700
In<00:17:25.743> the<00:17:25.824> middle<00:17:26.083> of<00:17:26.147> the<00:17:26.293> night,<00:17:26.697> I'd<00:17:27.361> be<00:17:27.684> hard<00:17:27.992> hat<00:17:28.396> and<00:17:28.817> flashlights<00:17:29.610> on<00:17:30.338> going<00:17:30.678> through<00:17:30.985> doing<00:17:31.244> building<00:17:31.567> inspections<00:17:32.215> in<00:17:32.360> my<00:17:32.538> day.
00:17:34.065 --> 00:17:35.189
Building<00:17:34.322> an<00:17:34.402> e-commerce<00:17:34.932> company.
00:17:36.217 --> 00:17:48.484
And<00:17:37.035> my<00:17:37.196> wife<00:17:37.501> actually<00:17:37.838> was<00:17:37.999> the<00:17:38.079> one<00:17:38.320> who<00:17:38.481> pushed<00:17:38.802> me<00:17:39.027> to<00:17:39.123> the<00:17:39.203> point<00:17:39.460> of<00:17:39.524> saying,<00:17:40.086> you<00:17:40.167> know,<00:17:40.632> one<00:17:40.809> day<00:17:41.210> you<00:17:41.290> need<00:17:41.451> to<00:17:41.596> merge<00:17:42.720> your<00:17:42.816> side<00:17:43.201> passion<00:17:43.843> with<00:17:44.020> your<00:17:44.181> career<00:17:44.662> and<00:17:44.807> find<00:17:45.224> something<00:17:45.786> at<00:17:45.931> the<00:17:46.043> intersection<00:17:46.750> of<00:17:47.312> real<00:17:47.488> estate<00:17:47.809> and<00:17:47.890> technology.
00:17:49.463 --> 00:17:58.278
And<00:17:49.945> coming<00:17:50.186> out<00:17:50.282> of<00:17:50.668> eBay,<00:17:51.888> I<00:17:52.032> was<00:17:52.209> inspired<00:17:52.851> because<00:17:53.895> we<00:17:53.991> managed<00:17:54.441> a<00:17:54.457> lot<00:17:54.874> of<00:17:55.003> different<00:17:55.340> categories<00:17:56.063> of<00:17:56.143> stuff<00:17:56.544> for<00:17:56.705> sale<00:17:57.347> in<00:17:57.427> the<00:17:57.668> eBay<00:17:57.765> marketplace.
00:17:58.872 --> 00:18:04.326
And<00:17:58.936> you<00:17:59.017> might<00:17:59.193> be<00:17:59.273> surprised<00:17:59.674> to<00:17:59.754> know<00:17:59.995> that<00:18:00.156> there's<00:18:01.102> a<00:18:01.936> thriving<00:18:03.268> real<00:18:03.460> estate<00:18:03.845> category.
00:18:04.407 --> 00:18:13.085
You<00:18:04.487> can<00:18:04.567> actually<00:18:04.888> buy<00:18:05.193> land,<00:18:05.770> you<00:18:05.914> can<00:18:06.091> buy<00:18:06.636> modular<00:18:07.198> homes<00:18:08.160> and<00:18:09.123> all<00:18:09.155> sorts<00:18:09.556> of<00:18:09.684> cool<00:18:09.877> stuff<00:18:10.807> in<00:18:10.903> the<00:18:11.048> real<00:18:11.224> estate<00:18:11.545> category<00:18:12.251> right<00:18:12.427> there<00:18:12.524> in<00:18:12.588> the<00:18:12.668> marketplace.
00:18:13.149 --> 00:18:22.614
And<00:18:13.213> I<00:18:13.229> always<00:18:13.454> wondered<00:18:13.775> why<00:18:15.299> it<00:18:15.539> wasn't<00:18:16.277> more<00:18:16.502> prevalent<00:18:17.480> and<00:18:17.641> why<00:18:17.881> it<00:18:18.026> wasn't<00:18:18.587> easy<00:18:18.828> like<00:18:19.085> that<00:18:19.967> to<00:18:20.063> just<00:18:20.288> go<00:18:20.448> on,<00:18:20.769> you<00:18:20.865> know,<00:18:21.475> add<00:18:21.635> to<00:18:21.796> cart,<00:18:21.972> checkout,<00:18:22.389> and<00:18:22.533> buy.
00:18:22.694 --> 00:18:30.158
We<00:18:22.838> go<00:18:22.999> through<00:18:23.111> these<00:18:23.400> painful<00:18:23.961> processes<00:18:24.603> of<00:18:24.763> escrow<00:18:25.341> and<00:18:26.129> real<00:18:26.323> estate<00:18:26.615> agents<00:18:26.971> and<00:18:27.100> brokers<00:18:27.440> and<00:18:27.666> all<00:18:27.763> of<00:18:27.844> these<00:18:28.071> things,<00:18:28.330> which,<00:18:28.977> you<00:18:29.074> know,<00:18:29.187> it's<00:18:29.284> an<00:18:29.365> arduous<00:18:29.705> process.
00:18:32.030 --> 00:18:33.822
Where's<00:18:32.223> the<00:18:32.369> role<00:18:32.563> of<00:18:32.692> technology<00:18:33.354> in<00:18:33.499> all<00:18:33.596> of<00:18:33.742> this?
00:18:34.242 --> 00:18:39.088
When<00:18:34.630> is<00:18:34.743> technology<00:18:35.454> going<00:18:35.567> to<00:18:35.696> disrupt<00:18:37.214> the<00:18:37.392> largest<00:18:37.941> asset<00:18:38.264> class<00:18:38.684> in<00:18:38.765> the<00:18:38.862> world?
00:18:39.573 --> 00:18:42.524
This<00:18:39.799> is<00:18:39.912> approaching<00:18:40.364> a<00:18:40.510> $400<00:18:41.025> trillion<00:18:41.976> asset<00:18:42.234> class.
00:18:42.653 --> 00:18:48.343
It's<00:18:43.056> like<00:18:43.201> 5<00:18:43.669> times<00:18:44.007> the<00:18:44.104> sum<00:18:44.410> total<00:18:44.797> of<00:18:45.039> all<00:18:45.281> publicly<00:18:45.861> listed<00:18:46.328> companies<00:18:46.812> in<00:18:46.893> the<00:18:47.070> world<00:18:47.956> combined.
00:18:49.307 --> 00:18:54.789
And<00:18:50.115> here<00:18:50.374> I<00:18:50.536> was<00:18:50.859> in,<00:18:51.166> you<00:18:51.247> know,<00:18:51.360> the<00:18:51.490> 2010s,<00:18:52.298> 2020s,<00:18:52.961> and<00:18:53.123> not<00:18:53.366> a<00:18:53.382> lot<00:18:53.624> of<00:18:53.770> interesting<00:18:54.320> things<00:18:54.562> happening.
00:18:55.294 --> 00:18:58.049
A<00:18:55.358> few<00:18:56.180> internet<00:18:56.583> real<00:18:56.808> estate<00:18:57.211> portals<00:18:57.695> out<00:18:57.888> there.
00:18:58.178 --> 00:19:03.915
We<00:18:58.258> know<00:18:58.436> them<00:18:58.597> all—<00:18:58.758> Zillow,<00:18:59.161> Redfin,<00:18:59.725> Realtor<00:19:00.272> here<00:19:00.385> in<00:19:00.514> the<00:19:00.595> US,<00:19:00.933> and<00:19:01.013> they're<00:19:01.158> all<00:19:01.271> around<00:19:01.497> the<00:19:01.577> world,<00:19:02.367> but<00:19:02.447> not<00:19:02.625> much<00:19:02.866> more<00:19:03.575> than<00:19:03.640> that.
00:19:04.790 --> 00:19:08.419
And<00:19:04.903> so,<00:19:05.940> I<00:19:06.021> got<00:19:06.183> quite<00:19:06.345> convinced<00:19:06.913> that<00:19:07.156> there<00:19:07.382> was<00:19:07.561> an<00:19:07.642> opportunity<00:19:08.355> here.
00:19:08.468 --> 00:19:19.408
And<00:19:08.549> I<00:19:08.776> knew<00:19:09.084> that<00:19:09.408> if<00:19:09.570> I<00:19:09.667> was<00:19:09.894> going<00:19:09.975> to<00:19:10.072> come<00:19:10.250> out<00:19:10.477> of<00:19:10.801> some<00:19:10.980> of<00:19:11.044> the<00:19:11.190> big<00:19:11.368> tech<00:19:12.665> work<00:19:12.892> that<00:19:13.054> I<00:19:13.135> was<00:19:13.200> doing<00:19:13.796> at<00:19:14.103> eBay<00:19:14.199> and<00:19:14.344> Apple<00:19:14.586> and<00:19:14.683> such,<00:19:16.054> that<00:19:16.215> this<00:19:16.376> could<00:19:16.538> be<00:19:16.683> a<00:19:16.699> great<00:19:16.941> place<00:19:18.795> to<00:19:18.957> dig<00:19:19.263> in.
00:19:19.666 --> 00:19:25.561
And<00:19:20.150> I<00:19:20.311> actually<00:19:20.569> thought,<00:19:21.136> and<00:19:21.296> intended<00:19:21.713> to<00:19:21.937> start<00:19:22.338> a<00:19:22.419> company<00:19:23.573> in<00:19:23.717> the<00:19:23.798> category,<00:19:24.198> get<00:19:24.359> back<00:19:24.599> to<00:19:24.679> my<00:19:24.776> startup<00:19:25.305> roots.
00:19:25.642 --> 00:19:30.500
But<00:19:26.026> as<00:19:26.203> I<00:19:26.347> was<00:19:26.604> introduced<00:19:27.245> to<00:19:27.389> Matterport,<00:19:28.913> it<00:19:29.153> was<00:19:29.410> one<00:19:29.586> of<00:19:29.650> those<00:19:29.955> ideas.
00:19:31.029 --> 00:19:34.862
It<00:19:31.077> was<00:19:31.398> one<00:19:31.559> of<00:19:31.639> those<00:19:31.879> tech<00:19:32.136> platforms<00:19:32.697> that<00:19:32.857> just<00:19:33.322> stuck<00:19:33.819> in<00:19:33.900> my<00:19:34.140> rearview<00:19:34.461> mirror.
00:19:35.343 --> 00:19:36.433
I<00:19:35.423> couldn't<00:19:35.680> get<00:19:35.824> it<00:19:35.888> out<00:19:36.000> of<00:19:36.048> my<00:19:36.225> head.
00:19:36.866 --> 00:19:48.283
I<00:19:36.946> kept<00:19:37.187> coming<00:19:37.492> back<00:19:37.748> to<00:19:37.844> it<00:19:37.989> thinking,<00:19:38.614> you<00:19:38.694> know,<00:19:39.913> if<00:19:40.073> we<00:19:40.217> are<00:19:40.378> half<00:19:40.715> right<00:19:41.580> about<00:19:42.238> the<00:19:42.382> potential<00:19:43.040> of<00:19:43.120> what<00:19:43.360> this<00:19:43.585> company<00:19:44.627> represents,<00:19:45.589> this<00:19:45.830> could<00:19:46.006> be<00:19:46.712> quite<00:19:46.968> a<00:19:46.984> transformative<00:19:47.786> platform.
00:19:48.957 --> 00:19:58.206
And<00:19:50.515> I<00:19:50.659> think<00:19:50.884> there<00:19:50.964> was<00:19:51.061> just<00:19:51.302> a<00:19:51.382> turning<00:19:51.703> point<00:19:51.944> for<00:19:52.072> me<00:19:52.265> where<00:19:53.710> I<00:19:53.790> faced<00:19:54.192> forward<00:19:54.818> and<00:19:54.978> jumped<00:19:55.300> in<00:19:55.396> with<00:19:55.557> both<00:19:55.781> feet<00:19:56.424> and<00:19:57.323> kind<00:19:57.548> of<00:19:57.580> never<00:19:57.869> looked<00:19:58.029> back.
00:19:59.571 --> 00:20:00.293
What's<00:19:59.812> it<00:19:59.892> been<00:20:00.052> like?
00:20:00.598 --> 00:20:02.204
I<00:20:00.711> mean,<00:20:00.919> what<00:20:01.016> does<00:20:01.176> the<00:20:01.321> growth<00:20:01.642> look<00:20:01.883> like?
00:20:02.782 --> 00:20:12.095
You<00:20:04.163> started<00:20:04.548> in<00:20:04.773> 2018,<00:20:06.154> and<00:20:06.314> boy,<00:20:06.620> have<00:20:06.716> you<00:20:06.876> gone<00:20:07.117> through<00:20:07.262> a<00:20:07.278> lot<00:20:07.743> in<00:20:07.840> just<00:20:08.081> that<00:20:08.322> short<00:20:08.546> amount<00:20:08.787> of<00:20:08.867> years,<00:20:09.590> as<00:20:09.686> everyone<00:20:10.088> has,<00:20:11.115> given<00:20:11.356> pandemic<00:20:11.790> and<00:20:11.918> stuff.
00:20:12.159 --> 00:20:13.620
What's<00:20:12.320> it<00:20:12.400> been<00:20:12.560> like<00:20:12.721> so<00:20:13.363> far?
00:20:14.864 --> 00:20:17.932
Well,<00:20:15.008> and<00:20:15.089> to<00:20:15.169> explain<00:20:15.812> that,<00:20:16.053> maybe<00:20:16.310> just<00:20:16.486> a<00:20:16.551> bit<00:20:16.727> about<00:20:17.017> Matterport<00:20:17.450> itself,<00:20:17.836> right?
00:20:18.013 --> 00:20:37.460
So,<00:20:20.326> if<00:20:20.471> you've<00:20:20.567> been<00:20:20.792> out<00:20:21.114> on<00:20:21.371> the<00:20:21.531> internet<00:20:21.853> surfing<00:20:22.399> real<00:20:22.592> estate<00:20:22.913> and<00:20:23.058> you've<00:20:23.218> been<00:20:23.443> on<00:20:23.540> any<00:20:23.700> of<00:20:23.781> those<00:20:23.990> real<00:20:24.103> estate<00:20:24.412> portals<00:20:24.834> I've<00:20:24.980> talked<00:20:25.256> about,<00:20:25.970> and<00:20:26.116> you<00:20:26.214> find<00:20:26.555> yourself<00:20:26.944> in<00:20:27.025> a<00:20:27.090> 3D<00:20:27.513> walkthrough,<00:20:29.763> what<00:20:29.924> we<00:20:30.151> call<00:20:30.410> a<00:20:30.490> digital<00:20:30.895> twin<00:20:31.606> or<00:20:31.703> a<00:20:31.768> 3D<00:20:32.107> virtual<00:20:32.593> tour<00:20:33.304> of<00:20:33.401> the<00:20:33.482> property,<00:20:35.503> you've<00:20:35.681> most<00:20:36.053> likely<00:20:36.457> experienced<00:20:37.023> Matterport.
00:20:37.525 --> 00:20:41.247
We<00:20:37.686> power<00:20:38.317> all<00:20:38.641> of<00:20:38.802> the<00:20:38.883> different<00:20:39.110> real<00:20:39.290> estate<00:20:39.554> portals<00:20:40.376> with<00:20:40.540> this<00:20:40.705> technology.
00:20:42.383 --> 00:20:45.156
It's<00:20:42.543> not<00:20:42.783> limited<00:20:43.120> to<00:20:43.264> just<00:20:44.050> houses<00:20:44.531> for<00:20:44.659> sale.
00:20:45.492 --> 00:20:51.087
You<00:20:45.525> know,<00:20:45.669> we<00:20:45.909> basically<00:20:46.470> digitize<00:20:47.192> and<00:20:47.336> create<00:20:47.737> these<00:20:47.913> precision<00:20:49.291> 3D<00:20:49.692> models<00:20:50.157> of<00:20:50.301> any<00:20:50.462> physical<00:20:50.814> space.
00:20:51.936 --> 00:20:59.807
So<00:20:52.626> that's<00:20:52.866> homes<00:20:53.427> and<00:20:53.587> high-rises,<00:20:54.469> offices,<00:20:55.527> hotels,<00:20:56.328> Airbnbs,<00:20:57.435> factories,<00:20:59.278> you<00:20:59.358> name<00:20:59.615> it.
00:21:00.496 --> 00:21:17.313
If<00:21:01.137> it's<00:21:01.522> a<00:21:01.602> physical<00:21:02.035> space,<00:21:02.660> cruise<00:21:02.981> ships,<00:21:03.542> commercial<00:21:04.023> airlines,<00:21:05.866> it's<00:21:07.373> powerful<00:21:07.950> because<00:21:09.137> it<00:21:09.297> gives<00:21:09.779> anybody<00:21:11.064> who<00:21:11.241> interacts<00:21:11.787> with<00:21:11.948> the<00:21:12.028> Matterport<00:21:12.880> digital<00:21:13.249> twin<00:21:14.614> a<00:21:14.679> spatial<00:21:15.257> understanding<00:21:16.446> of<00:21:16.622> that<00:21:16.863> location.
00:21:18.213 --> 00:21:26.148
And<00:21:18.534> you<00:21:18.695> can't<00:21:19.016> really<00:21:19.273> get<00:21:19.578> a<00:21:19.980> complete<00:21:21.040> and<00:21:21.184> meaningful<00:21:21.682> spatial<00:21:22.148> understanding<00:21:22.662> of<00:21:22.743> a<00:21:22.871> cruise<00:21:23.064> ship<00:21:24.028> or<00:21:24.172> a<00:21:24.188> house<00:21:25.297> by<00:21:25.441> looking<00:21:25.698> at<00:21:25.762> photos.
00:21:26.967 --> 00:21:28.814
And<00:21:27.369> videos<00:21:27.786> don't<00:21:28.027> do<00:21:28.172> justice<00:21:28.606> either.
00:21:28.895 --> 00:21:32.252
You<00:21:29.072> really<00:21:29.473> just<00:21:29.778> don't<00:21:30.116> really<00:21:30.421> understand<00:21:30.935> the<00:21:31.063> flow<00:21:31.481> of<00:21:31.561> the<00:21:31.722> property.
00:21:33.553 --> 00:21:35.352
How<00:21:33.714> high<00:21:33.891> do<00:21:34.051> the<00:21:34.131> ceilings<00:21:34.678> really<00:21:35.015> feel?
00:21:35.400 --> 00:21:40.458
It's<00:21:35.513> really<00:21:35.738> hard<00:21:35.898> to<00:21:36.043> tell<00:21:36.380> in<00:21:36.862> you<00:21:36.958> know,<00:21:37.183> photography,<00:21:38.323> especially,<00:21:39.094> you<00:21:39.126> know,<00:21:39.511> real<00:21:39.672> estate<00:21:39.993> photography.
00:21:40.539 --> 00:21:41.759
It<00:21:40.635> distorts<00:21:41.502> the<00:21:41.598> view.
00:21:41.823 --> 00:21:45.403
Everything<00:21:42.224> looks<00:21:42.481> bigger<00:21:42.802> and<00:21:42.882> more<00:21:43.043> spacious<00:21:43.685> than,<00:21:44.311> you<00:21:44.392> know,<00:21:44.568> what's<00:21:44.953> actually<00:21:45.291> there.
00:21:46.639 --> 00:21:54.281
And<00:21:46.832> our<00:21:46.976> technology<00:21:47.634> is<00:21:47.779> very<00:21:48.084> unique<00:21:48.517> in<00:21:48.646> that<00:21:49.047> we're<00:21:49.176> not<00:21:49.384> just<00:21:49.689> creating,<00:21:50.749> you<00:21:50.845> know,<00:21:51.134> pretty<00:21:51.391> panoramic<00:21:52.274> imagery<00:21:53.077> that<00:21:53.221> simulates<00:21:53.960> 3D.
00:21:55.324 --> 00:21:59.803
It<00:21:55.469> actually<00:21:55.966> is<00:21:56.191> a<00:21:56.288> dimensionally<00:21:57.074> accurate<00:21:57.556> 3D<00:21:57.748> model<00:21:58.054> down<00:21:58.375> to<00:21:58.535> a<00:21:58.551> centimeter<00:21:59.418> or<00:21:59.563> less.
00:22:00.783 --> 00:22:14.440
And<00:22:00.863> so<00:22:01.024> that<00:22:01.184> precision<00:22:01.746> is<00:22:01.890> great<00:22:02.147> not<00:22:02.452> only<00:22:02.709> for<00:22:04.154> getting<00:22:04.394> the<00:22:04.539> confidence<00:22:05.277> that<00:22:05.678> what<00:22:05.903> you<00:22:05.999> see<00:22:06.416> is<00:22:06.577> exactly<00:22:07.123> what<00:22:07.347> you're<00:22:07.427> going<00:22:07.524> to<00:22:07.668> get<00:22:08.471> when<00:22:08.631> you<00:22:08.727> go<00:22:08.952> visit<00:22:09.289> that<00:22:09.514> home<00:22:09.915> or<00:22:10.011> you<00:22:10.156> visit<00:22:10.428> that<00:22:10.637> hotel<00:22:11.279> or,<00:22:11.680> you<00:22:11.776> know,<00:22:11.937> that<00:22:12.178> Airbnb,<00:22:13.221> which<00:22:13.397> is<00:22:13.542> very<00:22:13.782> powerful.
00:22:15.146 --> 00:22:33.323
But<00:22:15.291> if<00:22:15.371> you<00:22:15.435> happen<00:22:15.580> to<00:22:15.772> own<00:22:15.869> the<00:22:15.949> property<00:22:16.414> or<00:22:16.511> manage<00:22:16.896> it,<00:22:17.778> you<00:22:17.939> now<00:22:18.260> have<00:22:18.516> 3D<00:22:18.902> blueprints<00:22:20.362> for<00:22:20.587> anything<00:22:21.068> from<00:22:21.630> a<00:22:21.726> precision<00:22:22.288> building<00:22:22.609> inspection,<00:22:23.331> space<00:22:23.796> planning,<00:22:24.518> or<00:22:24.775> organizing,<00:22:25.561> or<00:22:25.738> remodel,<00:22:26.685> or<00:22:26.845> redecorating,<00:22:28.530> because<00:22:28.851> every<00:22:29.188> corner<00:22:29.734> of<00:22:29.894> that<00:22:30.280> property<00:22:31.202> is<00:22:31.364> accounted<00:22:31.785> for<00:22:32.659> and<00:22:32.805> measured.
00:22:34.019 --> 00:22:39.952
And<00:22:35.815> today,<00:22:36.851> that<00:22:37.580> technology<00:22:38.324> doesn't<00:22:38.713> exist<00:22:38.956> otherwise,<00:22:39.775> right?
00:22:40.016 --> 00:22:46.861
You<00:22:40.161> would<00:22:40.321> have<00:22:40.900> to<00:22:41.044> hire<00:22:42.089> a<00:22:42.185> professional<00:22:42.908> to<00:22:43.133> come<00:22:43.374> out<00:22:43.695> and<00:22:43.936> take<00:22:44.177> measurements<00:22:44.740> just<00:22:44.981> to<00:22:45.141> give<00:22:45.382> you<00:22:45.559> 2D<00:22:45.961> floor<00:22:46.282> plans,<00:22:46.748> right?
00:22:46.941 --> 00:22:50.098
An<00:22:47.230> as-built<00:22:48.275> set<00:22:48.516> of<00:22:48.613> drawings<00:22:49.097> are<00:22:49.323> never<00:22:49.597> in<00:22:49.807> 3D.
00:22:51.115 --> 00:22:52.504
Just,<00:22:51.600> they<00:22:51.761> don't<00:22:51.987> exist.
00:22:53.844 --> 00:22:55.943
Certainly<00:22:54.248> not<00:22:54.442> down<00:22:54.684> at<00:22:54.829> the<00:22:55.152> consumer<00:22:55.701> level.
00:22:56.363 --> 00:22:58.549
So<00:22:56.524> Matterport<00:22:57.170> was<00:22:57.662> quite<00:22:57.888> a<00:22:57.985> breakthrough.
00:22:58.774 --> 00:23:01.804
And<00:22:58.855> this<00:22:59.032> was<00:22:59.499> the<00:22:59.580> combination<00:23:00.144> of<00:23:00.241> a<00:23:00.321> hardware<00:23:00.724> and<00:23:00.869> software<00:23:01.288> solution.
00:23:01.852 --> 00:23:06.541
We<00:23:01.916> have<00:23:02.013> a<00:23:02.029> special<00:23:02.497> camera<00:23:04.253> that<00:23:04.350> got<00:23:04.656> the<00:23:04.736> whole<00:23:04.914> ball<00:23:05.220> rolling<00:23:05.639> many,<00:23:05.832> many<00:23:06.010> years<00:23:06.283> ago.
00:23:08.056 --> 00:23:15.290
But<00:23:08.201> the<00:23:08.282> very<00:23:08.523> long<00:23:08.701> story<00:23:09.023> short<00:23:09.345> of<00:23:09.426> it<00:23:09.571> is,<00:23:09.829> you<00:23:09.909> know,<00:23:10.473> we<00:23:10.570> set<00:23:10.795> out<00:23:10.940> to<00:23:11.037> do<00:23:11.134> something<00:23:11.601> much<00:23:11.827> bigger<00:23:12.068> than<00:23:12.165> that,<00:23:12.391> which<00:23:12.584> is,<00:23:12.713> could<00:23:12.810> we<00:23:12.971> democratize<00:23:13.857> this,<00:23:14.341> this<00:23:14.502> 3D<00:23:14.824> capture?
00:23:16.256 --> 00:23:21.246
Could<00:23:16.417> we<00:23:16.498> make<00:23:16.675> it<00:23:16.707> so<00:23:16.997> easy<00:23:17.158> that<00:23:17.319> you<00:23:17.399> could<00:23:17.480> pull<00:23:17.625> out<00:23:17.785> your<00:23:17.866> smartphone<00:23:19.637> and<00:23:19.749> scan<00:23:20.361> with<00:23:20.458> the<00:23:20.538> phone<00:23:20.844> in<00:23:20.876> your<00:23:21.021> pocket?
00:23:21.327 --> 00:23:22.534
And<00:23:21.488> the<00:23:21.810> answer<00:23:22.051> is<00:23:22.212> yes.
00:23:23.442 --> 00:23:38.906
If<00:23:23.586> you<00:23:24.885> capture<00:23:25.431> enough<00:23:25.768> 3D<00:23:26.393> data,<00:23:27.468> which<00:23:27.693> we<00:23:27.837> have<00:23:28.030> now<00:23:28.511> something<00:23:28.896> like<00:23:29.040> 40<00:23:29.602> billion<00:23:30.019> square<00:23:30.404> feet<00:23:30.660> of<00:23:30.693> space<00:23:31.944> that<00:23:32.104> we<00:23:32.184> have<00:23:32.345> digitized<00:23:33.773> in<00:23:33.917> 177<00:23:35.136> countries<00:23:35.649> around<00:23:35.954> the<00:23:36.099> world,<00:23:37.719> that's<00:23:37.895> a<00:23:37.960> lot<00:23:38.056> of<00:23:38.120> spatial<00:23:38.585> data.
00:23:39.307 --> 00:23:52.722
And<00:23:39.387> you<00:23:39.483> can<00:23:39.708> use<00:23:39.949> that<00:23:40.109> spatial<00:23:40.462> data<00:23:40.751> to<00:23:40.911> train<00:23:41.264> an<00:23:41.392> algorithm<00:23:42.531> that<00:23:42.692> can<00:23:43.013> predict<00:23:43.574> and<00:23:43.735> create<00:23:44.280> 3D<00:23:44.681> geometry<00:23:45.740> from<00:23:45.916> the<00:23:46.045> photos<00:23:46.526> off<00:23:46.686> your<00:23:46.783> phone<00:23:48.130> and<00:23:48.692> get<00:23:48.868> the<00:23:48.948> same<00:23:49.413> result<00:23:50.553> without<00:23:50.938> using<00:23:51.758> specialty<00:23:52.304> hardware.
00:23:53.589 --> 00:24:02.906
And<00:23:53.750> what<00:23:53.846> we<00:23:53.991> love<00:23:54.103> about<00:23:54.392> that<00:23:54.633> is<00:23:56.175> there's<00:23:56.513> about<00:23:56.738> 5.5<00:23:57.460> going<00:23:57.621> on<00:23:57.701> 6<00:23:58.183> billion<00:23:58.729> active<00:23:59.067> smartphones<00:24:00.593> in<00:24:00.689> the<00:24:00.818> world<00:24:01.059> today<00:24:01.396> that<00:24:01.541> are<00:24:01.701> Matterport<00:24:02.280> compatible.
00:24:03.340 --> 00:24:11.725
So<00:24:04.127> that<00:24:04.352> to<00:24:04.448> me<00:24:04.753> is<00:24:05.412> a<00:24:05.573> much<00:24:05.974> larger<00:24:06.633> available<00:24:07.195> market<00:24:07.581> to<00:24:07.725> me<00:24:07.886> of<00:24:08.047> people<00:24:09.187> that<00:24:09.267> could<00:24:10.215> digitize<00:24:10.874> the<00:24:10.938> space<00:24:11.356> they're<00:24:11.581> in.
00:24:11.998 --> 00:24:29.727
And<00:24:12.143> you<00:24:12.239> could<00:24:12.384> suddenly<00:24:12.801> go<00:24:13.026> from<00:24:13.348> tens<00:24:13.685> of<00:24:13.830> millions<00:24:14.970> of<00:24:15.050> spaces<00:24:15.854> and<00:24:15.998> 40<00:24:16.255> billion<00:24:16.577> square<00:24:16.817> feet<00:24:17.058> to,<00:24:17.444> you<00:24:17.524> know,<00:24:19.564> Suddenly,<00:24:20.013> the<00:24:20.093> 4<00:24:20.495> billion<00:24:20.912> buildings<00:24:21.378> on<00:24:21.474> planet<00:24:21.956> Earth<00:24:23.240> doesn't<00:24:23.626> look<00:24:23.802> like<00:24:23.963> such<00:24:24.284> a<00:24:24.364> big<00:24:24.621> number<00:24:24.942> to<00:24:25.087> tackle<00:24:26.307> if<00:24:26.452> you<00:24:26.532> got<00:24:26.692> 6<00:24:27.094> billion<00:24:27.415> people<00:24:27.800> out<00:24:27.993> there<00:24:28.121> with<00:24:28.282> a<00:24:28.362> smartphone<00:24:28.924> that<00:24:29.021> could<00:24:29.181> capture<00:24:29.647> it.
00:24:30.642 --> 00:24:30.931
Yeah.
00:24:31.830 --> 00:24:35.138
And<00:24:31.911> that<00:24:32.071> data<00:24:32.537> is<00:24:33.275> invaluable,<00:24:34.480> I'm<00:24:34.640> sure.
00:24:35.748 --> 00:24:40.998
And<00:24:36.711> how<00:24:36.968> are<00:24:37.113> you<00:24:37.273> utilizing<00:24:38.156> artificial<00:24:38.654> intelligence<00:24:39.457> now<00:24:39.858> with<00:24:40.083> all<00:24:40.260> of<00:24:40.340> that<00:24:40.581> data?
00:24:41.127 --> 00:24:43.407
It<00:24:41.368> seems<00:24:41.689> like<00:24:41.801> you<00:24:41.849> have<00:24:41.962> a<00:24:42.026> really<00:24:42.251> interesting<00:24:42.732> play<00:24:42.909> there<00:24:43.134> as<00:24:43.294> well.
00:24:44.266 --> 00:24:47.145
Yeah,<00:24:44.748> you<00:24:44.781> know,<00:24:46.212> that's<00:24:46.453> exactly<00:24:46.920> right.
00:24:48.930 --> 00:24:57.388
And<00:24:52.146> the<00:24:52.243> big<00:24:52.549> unlock<00:24:52.967> for<00:24:53.095> Matterport<00:24:53.690> and<00:24:53.771> what<00:24:53.900> drew<00:24:54.159> me<00:24:54.256> to<00:24:54.435> the<00:24:54.565> company<00:24:55.879> was<00:24:56.203> the<00:24:56.285> Spatial<00:24:56.706> Data<00:24:56.934> Library.
00:24:57.518 --> 00:25:15.274
Even<00:24:57.680> back<00:24:57.923> in<00:24:57.988> 2018<00:24:59.270> with<00:24:59.448> a<00:24:59.465> much<00:24:59.757> smaller<00:25:00.406> footprint<00:25:02.137> than<00:25:02.299> what<00:25:02.396> we<00:25:02.525> have<00:25:02.784> today<00:25:05.197> showed<00:25:05.682> me<00:25:05.941> that,<00:25:06.427> you<00:25:06.524> know,<00:25:06.670> when<00:25:06.816> I<00:25:06.848> said<00:25:07.139> if<00:25:07.237> we<00:25:07.318> were<00:25:07.463> half<00:25:07.787> right<00:25:07.965> about<00:25:08.273> this,<00:25:08.451> this<00:25:08.613> could<00:25:08.840> be<00:25:09.001> transformative<00:25:09.892> because<00:25:10.812> that<00:25:10.909> spatial<00:25:11.374> data<00:25:11.615> can<00:25:11.775> do<00:25:11.936> so<00:25:12.096> much<00:25:12.337> more<00:25:12.497> for<00:25:12.722> us<00:25:13.059> than<00:25:13.525> create<00:25:13.765> the<00:25:13.846> great<00:25:14.102> model.
00:25:15.531 --> 00:25:24.101
I<00:25:15.627> can<00:25:15.788> now<00:25:16.092> use<00:25:16.285> data<00:25:16.526> science,<00:25:17.312> even<00:25:17.473> traditional<00:25:18.050> software<00:25:18.580> algorithms,<00:25:19.062> but<00:25:19.238> sure,<00:25:19.623> AI<00:25:19.960> as<00:25:20.185> well,<00:25:21.084> to<00:25:21.180> start<00:25:21.982> extracting<00:25:22.608> what<00:25:22.753> we<00:25:22.913> call<00:25:23.090> property<00:25:23.571> intelligence.
00:25:25.032 --> 00:25:34.742
So<00:25:25.257> today,<00:25:25.674> if<00:25:25.882> I<00:25:26.043> have<00:25:26.284> your<00:25:26.524> dimensionally<00:25:27.247> accurate,<00:25:27.744> photorealistic<00:25:29.189> 3D<00:25:29.574> model<00:25:29.814> of<00:25:29.895> your<00:25:30.055> property,<00:25:30.456> well,<00:25:30.617> I,<00:25:31.018> I<00:25:31.179> have<00:25:31.355> an<00:25:31.435> inventory<00:25:32.158> of<00:25:32.398> literally<00:25:32.864> every<00:25:33.121> asset<00:25:33.586> that's<00:25:33.987> in<00:25:34.164> that<00:25:34.404> space.
00:25:35.753 --> 00:25:41.701
I<00:25:35.849> can<00:25:36.009> tell<00:25:36.250> you<00:25:36.892> how<00:25:37.116> many<00:25:37.357> recessed<00:25:37.709> ceiling<00:25:38.158> lights<00:25:38.415> you<00:25:38.559> have,<00:25:38.799> how<00:25:38.896> many<00:25:39.136> light<00:25:39.377> switches,<00:25:40.739> plug<00:25:40.980> sockets.
00:25:42.727 --> 00:25:47.360
I<00:25:42.823> can<00:25:42.983> tell<00:25:43.224> you<00:25:43.368> not<00:25:43.705> just,<00:25:44.650> um,<00:25:45.228> is<00:25:45.388> it<00:25:45.532> 3-bedroom,<00:25:46.334> 2.5-bath?
00:25:48.097 --> 00:25:56.144
I<00:25:48.193> can<00:25:48.353> tell<00:25:48.674> you,<00:25:49.219> um,<00:25:49.940> how<00:25:50.053> many<00:25:50.293> sink<00:25:50.662> fixtures,<00:25:51.784> how<00:25:51.880> many<00:25:52.120> walk-in<00:25:52.521> showers,<00:25:53.483> how<00:25:53.643> many<00:25:53.804> clawfoot<00:25:54.285> tubs,<00:25:54.605> like<00:25:54.765> down<00:25:55.150> to<00:25:55.327> the<00:25:55.407> specific<00:25:55.968> things.
00:25:56.352 --> 00:26:01.065
Even,<00:25:57.026> is<00:25:57.170> it<00:25:57.250> a<00:25:57.266> 6-burner<00:25:57.907> stove,<00:25:58.837> 36-inch,<00:25:59.975> 48-inch<00:26:00.681> wide?
00:26:01.755 --> 00:26:03.101

00:26:03.486 --> 00:26:07.805
And<00:26:04.289> I<00:26:04.385> can<00:26:04.690> also<00:26:05.012> tell<00:26:05.252> you<00:26:05.349> the<00:26:05.493> condition<00:26:07.019> of<00:26:07.131> those<00:26:07.500> things.
00:26:08.143 --> 00:26:14.597
I'm<00:26:08.480> going<00:26:08.721> to<00:26:08.865> ask<00:26:09.106> you,<00:26:09.202> how<00:26:09.363> long<00:26:09.845> until<00:26:10.246> you<00:26:10.487> can<00:26:11.932> say<00:26:12.253> like,<00:26:12.494> hey,<00:26:12.879> and<00:26:13.120> that<00:26:13.698> bathroom<00:26:14.100> doesn't<00:26:14.405> work?
00:26:15.368 --> 00:26:17.022
Like,<00:26:15.529> how<00:26:15.689> far<00:26:16.026> away<00:26:16.428> are<00:26:16.572> you<00:26:16.669> from<00:26:16.893> that?
00:26:17.311 --> 00:26:17.969
That's<00:26:17.552> insane.
00:26:18.033 --> 00:26:20.442
Like,<00:26:18.917> but<00:26:19.302> yeah,<00:26:19.462> anyway,<00:26:20.040> continue.
00:26:20.683 --> 00:26:22.240
That,<00:26:20.908> that<00:26:21.084> what<00:26:21.245> you<00:26:21.325> were<00:26:21.470> talking<00:26:21.726> about<00:26:21.903> is<00:26:21.967> wild.
00:26:23.236 --> 00:26:37.977
You're<00:26:23.477> onto<00:26:23.734> something,<00:26:24.135> which<00:26:24.376> is,<00:26:24.761> you<00:26:24.857> know,<00:26:25.018> one<00:26:25.179> of<00:26:25.259> the,<00:26:25.516> especially<00:26:26.062> in<00:26:26.142> large<00:26:26.319> cities,<00:26:26.736> San<00:26:26.848> Francisco,<00:26:27.427> Chicago,<00:26:28.229> LA,<00:26:29.833> Getting<00:26:30.074> building<00:26:30.395> inspectors<00:26:30.891> to<00:26:31.036> come<00:26:31.260> out,<00:26:31.597> you<00:26:31.693> know,<00:26:32.078> and<00:26:32.222> sign<00:26:32.543> off<00:26:32.783> on<00:26:32.879> your<00:26:33.120> project<00:26:33.697> if<00:26:33.825> you're<00:26:33.985> doing<00:26:34.178> a<00:26:34.242> bathroom<00:26:34.707> remodel<00:26:35.204> or<00:26:35.284> what<00:26:35.428> have<00:26:35.749> you<00:26:36.647> is<00:26:36.871> massively<00:26:37.368> time-consuming.
00:26:38.474 --> 00:26:41.632
Often,<00:26:38.891> you<00:26:38.987> know,<00:26:39.452> the<00:26:39.837> departments<00:26:40.254> are<00:26:40.334> backed<00:26:40.638> up<00:26:40.734> 6<00:26:41.039> months,<00:26:41.456> right?
00:26:41.680 --> 00:26:49.199
And<00:26:41.776> we<00:26:42.001> hear<00:26:42.161> about<00:26:42.482> this,<00:26:42.883> you<00:26:42.963> know,<00:26:43.636> some<00:26:43.796> of<00:26:43.861> just<00:26:44.101> the<00:26:44.245> nightmares<00:26:44.726> of<00:26:44.806> how<00:26:44.983> long<00:26:45.383> it<00:26:45.464> takes<00:26:45.864> to<00:26:46.650> build<00:26:46.890> a<00:26:46.906> house<00:26:47.323> or<00:26:47.451> renovate<00:26:47.948> something<00:26:48.590> in<00:26:48.670> a<00:26:48.750> big<00:26:48.894> city.
00:26:49.936 --> 00:26:50.770
And<00:26:50.257> that's<00:26:50.417> really<00:26:50.594> true.
00:26:50.818 --> 00:26:51.812
And<00:26:50.898> a<00:26:50.914> lot<00:26:51.074> of<00:26:51.155> it<00:26:51.235> is<00:26:51.379> logistics.
00:26:51.860 --> 00:26:59.620
So<00:26:52.036> imagine<00:26:53.880> maybe<00:26:54.120> it's<00:26:54.281> not<00:26:54.762> initially<00:26:55.323> detecting<00:26:55.884> when,<00:26:56.349> you<00:26:56.445> know,<00:26:56.541> something<00:26:57.006> goes<00:26:57.231> wrong,<00:26:57.472> your<00:26:57.648> bathroom's<00:26:58.033> not<00:26:58.193> working,<00:26:58.450> but<00:26:58.594> you<00:26:58.674> want<00:26:58.770> to<00:26:58.851> get<00:26:58.995> it<00:26:59.091> inspected.
00:27:00.358 --> 00:27:13.026
Well,<00:27:00.598> the<00:27:00.695> remote<00:27:00.999> inspection<00:27:01.897> can<00:27:02.122> actually<00:27:02.539> be<00:27:02.779> more<00:27:03.084> precise<00:27:03.966> than<00:27:04.126> if<00:27:04.238> you're<00:27:04.367> standing<00:27:05.184> in<00:27:05.329> the<00:27:05.361> space<00:27:05.826> because<00:27:06.708> our<00:27:06.852> measurement<00:27:07.333> tools<00:27:08.215> are<00:27:08.247> much<00:27:08.472> higher<00:27:08.776> fidelity<00:27:09.418> than<00:27:09.594> what<00:27:09.754> a<00:27:09.979> traditional<00:27:10.636> contractor<00:27:11.454> or<00:27:11.598> building<00:27:11.919> inspector<00:27:12.400> brings<00:27:12.705> with<00:27:12.881> them.
00:27:13.523 --> 00:27:15.431
They're<00:27:13.651> bringing<00:27:13.843> tape<00:27:14.084> measures,<00:27:14.725> as<00:27:14.886> an<00:27:14.966> example.
00:27:16.233 --> 00:27:24.040
Our<00:27:16.329> measurement<00:27:16.794> model,<00:27:17.355> you<00:27:17.451> know,<00:27:18.012> captures<00:27:18.638> as<00:27:18.734> many<00:27:18.991> as<00:27:19.199> 3<00:27:19.456> million<00:27:20.081> 3D<00:27:20.498> data<00:27:20.803> points<00:27:21.203> and<00:27:21.300> measurements<00:27:22.823> in<00:27:22.967> every<00:27:23.223> property<00:27:23.768> or<00:27:23.848> more.
00:27:24.810 --> 00:27:30.114
No<00:27:24.986> human<00:27:25.402> is<00:27:25.611> ever<00:27:25.851> going<00:27:25.947> to,<00:27:26.252> you<00:27:26.364> know,<00:27:26.524> spend<00:27:26.909> the<00:27:27.053> kind<00:27:27.293> of<00:27:27.390> time<00:27:27.710> to<00:27:27.870> get<00:27:28.111> 3<00:27:28.351> million<00:27:28.672> measurements<00:27:29.296> anywhere,<00:27:29.777> right?
00:27:30.434 --> 00:27:32.517
Much<00:27:30.675> less<00:27:31.316> for<00:27:31.476> a<00:27:31.556> bathroom<00:27:32.021> remodel.
00:27:32.742 --> 00:27:37.613
And<00:27:32.838> so<00:27:33.655> it<00:27:33.783> becomes<00:27:34.200> a<00:27:34.280> trusted<00:27:34.681> technology,<00:27:36.363> but<00:27:36.508> also<00:27:36.764> a<00:27:36.780> scalable<00:27:37.469> one.
00:27:37.661 --> 00:27:46.074
So<00:27:38.286> building<00:27:38.543> inspector<00:27:39.071> could<00:27:39.312> conceivably<00:27:40.049> visit<00:27:41.026> 20<00:27:41.395> locations<00:27:42.036> without<00:27:42.357> leaving<00:27:42.693> their<00:27:43.414> desk<00:27:43.735> at<00:27:43.831> the<00:27:44.039> office<00:27:45.097> in<00:27:45.177> a<00:27:45.193> single<00:27:45.642> afternoon.
00:27:47.004 --> 00:27:52.414
And<00:27:47.260> in<00:27:47.404> fact,<00:27:48.286> What<00:27:48.607> is<00:27:48.703> happening<00:27:49.169> with<00:27:49.330> our<00:27:49.490> enterprise<00:27:50.053> customers,<00:27:51.177> they're<00:27:51.338> doing<00:27:51.595> exactly<00:27:52.141> that.

00:28:12.218 --> 00:28:25.497
And<00:28:12.715> if<00:28:12.860> they<00:28:13.021> want<00:28:13.278> to<00:28:13.454> inspect<00:28:14.562> their<00:28:14.707> fire<00:28:15.028> suppression<00:28:15.590> systems,<00:28:16.570> take<00:28:16.794> a<00:28:16.810> look<00:28:17.115> at<00:28:17.212> their<00:28:17.356> sprinkler<00:28:17.838> head<00:28:18.031> installations,<00:28:19.524> confirm<00:28:20.086> that<00:28:20.247> they<00:28:20.407> have<00:28:20.600> the<00:28:20.728> right<00:28:20.969> exit<00:28:21.226> placards<00:28:21.932> for<00:28:22.093> fire<00:28:22.366> safety,<00:28:23.233> you<00:28:23.329> know,<00:28:23.474> in<00:28:23.618> all<00:28:23.715> the<00:28:23.795> right<00:28:24.036> locations<00:28:24.694> in<00:28:24.823> all<00:28:24.919> their<00:28:25.080> buildings.

00:29:15.679 --> 00:29:20.961
The<00:29:15.775> efficient<00:29:16.257> markets,<00:29:17.043> you<00:29:17.075> know,<00:29:17.380> are<00:29:17.461> solved<00:29:17.942> by<00:29:18.183> technology<00:29:19.532> that<00:29:19.724> removes<00:29:20.174> all<00:29:20.286> of<00:29:20.350> that<00:29:20.511> friction.
00:29:21.779 --> 00:29:30.706
And<00:29:22.502> there<00:29:22.598> have<00:29:22.678> been<00:29:22.919> very<00:29:23.160> few<00:29:23.385> companies<00:29:24.749> in<00:29:24.846> the<00:29:24.926> last<00:29:25.327> 25<00:29:26.194> years<00:29:27.077> that<00:29:27.190> have<00:29:27.334> really<00:29:27.655> gone<00:29:27.896> at<00:29:28.602> removing<00:29:29.164> that<00:29:29.341> friction<00:29:29.839> in<00:29:29.967> the<00:29:30.063> built<00:29:30.368> world.
00:29:31.091 --> 00:29:32.375
And<00:29:31.203> so<00:29:31.589> Matterport's<00:29:32.054> one<00:29:32.215> of<00:29:32.295> them.
00:29:32.440 --> 00:29:32.648
Right?
00:29:32.696 --> 00:29:34.495
So,<00:29:33.435> there's<00:29:33.740> room<00:29:33.917> for<00:29:34.061> a<00:29:34.077> lot<00:29:34.318> more.
00:29:34.864 --> 00:29:42.844
And<00:29:35.924> because<00:29:36.261> it's<00:29:36.405> such<00:29:36.711> a<00:29:36.727> huge<00:29:37.128> market,<00:29:38.637> it<00:29:38.718> can't<00:29:38.958> possibly<00:29:39.617> be<00:29:40.339> conquered<00:29:41.624> by<00:29:41.784> just<00:29:42.106> one<00:29:42.346> business.
00:29:42.908 --> 00:29:50.005
But<00:29:43.390> at<00:29:43.470> the<00:29:43.567> same<00:29:43.872> time,<00:29:44.354> what's<00:29:45.461> most<00:29:45.654> exciting<00:29:46.120> to<00:29:46.345> us<00:29:46.601> is<00:29:47.870> this<00:29:48.047> is<00:29:48.994> all<00:29:49.170> new<00:29:49.395> frontier.
00:29:50.278 --> 00:29:57.247
And<00:29:51.162> when<00:29:51.322> we<00:29:51.418> go<00:29:51.643> into<00:29:52.045> a<00:29:52.285> Fortune<00:29:52.687> 100<00:29:53.104> company<00:29:53.506> or<00:29:53.602> I<00:29:53.666> go<00:29:53.827> into<00:29:54.469> a<00:29:54.614> real<00:29:54.790> estate<00:29:55.176> office,<00:29:56.075> they<00:29:56.219> have<00:29:56.412> the<00:29:56.540> same<00:29:56.797> reaction.
00:29:57.970 --> 00:30:01.311
How<00:29:58.243> has<00:29:58.467> this<00:29:58.628> technology,<00:29:59.769> you<00:29:59.865> know,<00:30:00.010> not<00:30:00.251> been<00:30:00.411> in<00:30:00.508> front<00:30:00.732> of<00:30:00.829> us<00:30:01.038> before?
00:30:01.375 --> 00:30:02.869
Where<00:30:01.921> has<00:30:02.114> it<00:30:02.242> been<00:30:02.419> all<00:30:02.515> our<00:30:02.660> lives?
00:30:04.347 --> 00:30:11.463
Yeah,<00:30:05.070> which<00:30:05.246> is<00:30:05.310> probably<00:30:05.632> the<00:30:05.776> greatest<00:30:06.114> feeling<00:30:06.499> ever<00:30:07.318> when<00:30:07.479> you're<00:30:07.816> showing<00:30:08.186> off<00:30:08.298> a<00:30:08.363> product<00:30:08.860> or<00:30:08.925> leading<00:30:09.230> a<00:30:09.310> company<00:30:09.728> is<00:30:10.129> that<00:30:10.306> exact<00:30:10.772> reaction.
00:30:12.764 --> 00:30:12.989
It<00:30:12.860> is.
00:30:13.326 --> 00:30:25.663
And,<00:30:13.487> you<00:30:13.519> know,<00:30:14.290> the<00:30:14.370> founder<00:30:15.045> of<00:30:15.125> the<00:30:15.254> company<00:30:15.575> and<00:30:15.623> our<00:30:15.752> chief<00:30:15.977> scientist,<00:30:16.956> Dave<00:30:17.197> Gausbeck,<00:30:18.964> points<00:30:19.430> out,<00:30:19.832> you<00:30:19.912> know,<00:30:20.089> something<00:30:21.133> very<00:30:21.374> important<00:30:21.920> in<00:30:22.016> the<00:30:22.177> design<00:30:22.579> principle<00:30:23.077> of<00:30:23.221> the<00:30:23.366> company<00:30:24.024> and<00:30:24.185> really<00:30:24.426> the<00:30:24.587> core<00:30:24.828> product<00:30:25.213> platform.
00:30:26.274 --> 00:30:34.857
Which<00:30:26.500> was<00:30:26.999> he<00:30:27.868> and<00:30:27.965> that<00:30:28.271> early<00:30:28.609> team<00:30:29.640> were<00:30:30.606> exclusively<00:30:31.508> focused<00:30:32.860> on<00:30:33.182> building<00:30:33.585> a<00:30:33.665> product<00:30:34.100> that<00:30:34.245> just<00:30:34.551> works.
00:30:36.620 --> 00:30:50.585
And<00:30:36.700> let<00:30:36.765> me<00:30:36.894> tell<00:30:37.200> you,<00:30:38.007> having<00:30:38.733> done<00:30:38.894> many<00:30:39.071> startups,<00:30:39.959> coached,<00:30:40.604> invested<00:30:41.152> in<00:30:41.249> them,<00:30:42.056> run<00:30:42.298> them,<00:30:43.330> and<00:30:43.669> even<00:30:46.492> the<00:30:46.572> big<00:30:46.733> companies,<00:30:47.539> it<00:30:47.684> is<00:30:47.781> so<00:30:48.410> easy<00:30:48.732> for<00:30:48.893> our<00:30:49.215> eyes<00:30:49.473> to<00:30:49.618> get<00:30:49.779> bigger<00:30:50.021> than<00:30:50.102> our<00:30:50.198> stomach.
00:30:50.682 --> 00:30:51.939
It's<00:30:50.907> the<00:30:50.940> natural<00:30:51.488> tendency.
00:30:53.487 --> 00:30:56.596
Focus<00:30:54.556> is<00:30:54.960> not<00:30:55.592> the<00:30:55.673> first<00:30:56.078> instinct.
00:30:57.212 --> 00:31:00.759
When<00:30:57.374> you're<00:30:57.536> out<00:30:57.779> hustling<00:30:58.200> your<00:30:58.426> company<00:30:58.831> and<00:30:58.912> you're<00:30:59.074> trying<00:30:59.333> to<00:30:59.414> get<00:30:59.576> business,<00:30:59.981> you'll<00:31:00.143> take<00:31:00.370> it<00:31:00.451> from<00:31:00.564> anywhere.
00:31:01.362 --> 00:31:03.648
And<00:31:01.507> if<00:31:01.603> your<00:31:01.748> first<00:31:02.038> set<00:31:02.102> of<00:31:02.167> customers<00:31:02.586> say,<00:31:02.811> "We<00:31:02.892> really<00:31:03.133> like<00:31:03.310> this<00:31:03.455> product.

00:31:13.526 --> 00:31:26.750
You<00:31:13.558> know,<00:31:13.769> Dave<00:31:14.337> and<00:31:14.434> the<00:31:14.580> core<00:31:14.743> Matterport<00:31:15.246> team<00:31:15.814> really<00:31:16.138> stuck<00:31:16.479> to<00:31:16.609> this<00:31:16.771> principle<00:31:17.193> and<00:31:17.274> said,<00:31:17.501> listen,<00:31:17.986> We've<00:31:18.083> got<00:31:18.228> to<00:31:18.325> build<00:31:18.502> a<00:31:18.567> product<00:31:19.034> and<00:31:19.131> a<00:31:19.147> solution<00:31:20.260> that<00:31:20.341> no<00:31:20.437> matter<00:31:20.824> where<00:31:21.131> you<00:31:21.227> drop<00:31:21.550> the<00:31:21.631> Matterport<00:31:22.179> camera,<00:31:22.759> the<00:31:22.840> Matterport<00:31:23.388> technology,<00:31:25.590> it<00:31:25.687> is<00:31:25.848> just<00:31:26.090> going<00:31:26.412> to<00:31:26.557> work.

00:31:50.952 --> 00:31:55.592
In<00:31:51.032> the<00:31:51.113> Matterport<00:31:51.597> camera<00:31:52.307> today,<00:31:52.646> our<00:31:52.742> most<00:31:52.968> sophisticated<00:31:53.791> flagship<00:31:54.324> product<00:31:54.566> has<00:31:54.897> one<00:31:55.145> button<00:31:55.410> on<00:31:55.558> it.
00:31:56.402 --> 00:31:57.361
And<00:31:56.485> guess<00:31:56.716> what<00:31:56.816> that<00:31:56.981> button<00:31:57.229> is?

The<00:31:59.636> power<00:31:59.976> button.
00:32:00.625 --> 00:32:02.051
Yeah,<00:32:00.933> I<00:32:00.965> was<00:32:01.111> going<00:32:01.224> to<00:32:01.467> say<00:32:01.597> the<00:32:01.629> power<00:32:01.840> button.
00:32:02.164 --> 00:32:02.569
The<00:32:02.310> power<00:32:02.472> button.
00:32:03.380 --> 00:32:03.915
Turn<00:32:03.623> it<00:32:03.769> on.
00:32:04.757 --> 00:32:08.878

00:32:09.057 --> 00:32:10.344
That<00:32:09.627> is<00:32:09.937> capture.
00:32:10.996 --> 00:32:11.352
That's<00:32:11.239> it.
00:32:13.246 --> 00:32:46.255
And<00:32:13.407> the<00:32:13.650> level<00:32:13.909> of<00:32:13.990> sophistication<00:32:14.864> of<00:32:14.961> what<00:32:15.123> it's<00:32:15.285> capturing—<00:32:15.738> 134-megapixel<00:32:17.469> 4K<00:32:18.035> HDR<00:32:18.537> imagery,<00:32:19.880> all<00:32:20.285> of<00:32:20.350> the<00:32:20.382> 3D<00:32:20.705> LiDAR<00:32:21.595> data,<00:32:22.647> 3D<00:32:22.890> point<00:32:23.197> cloud,<00:32:24.249> 3D<00:32:24.588> mesh—<00:32:25.786> and<00:32:25.883> then<00:32:26.125> assembling,<00:32:26.918> you<00:32:27.015> know,<00:32:27.889> all<00:32:28.067> of<00:32:28.148> this<00:32:28.374> imagery<00:32:28.714> together<00:32:29.102> to<00:32:29.199> give<00:32:29.410> you,<00:32:29.991> you<00:32:30.023> know,<00:32:30.880> everything<00:32:31.219> from<00:32:31.380> a<00:32:31.445> 4,000<00:32:32.253> to<00:32:32.350> a<00:32:32.431> 400,000-square-foot<00:32:34.030> facility<00:32:35.839> assembled<00:32:36.372> together,<00:32:37.099> you<00:32:37.196> know,<00:32:37.519> in<00:32:37.982> perfect<00:32:38.928> dimensional<00:32:39.569> accuracy<00:32:40.691> and<00:32:40.788> it<00:32:40.868> just<00:32:41.188> works,<00:32:42.231> right,<00:32:42.696> is<00:32:43.353> really,<00:32:43.818> really<00:32:44.139> hard<00:32:45.277> problem<00:32:45.678> to<00:32:45.774> solve.
00:32:46.640 --> 00:33:00.349
But<00:32:46.800> when<00:32:47.025> you<00:32:47.201> do,<00:32:48.227> that's<00:32:49.109> when<00:32:49.285> indeed<00:32:49.831> it<00:32:49.927> gets<00:32:50.231> really<00:32:50.488> exciting<00:32:51.033> because<00:32:51.434> you<00:32:51.530> have<00:32:51.690> a<00:32:51.771> product<00:32:52.236> that<00:32:52.316> you<00:32:52.396> feel<00:32:52.636> very<00:32:52.813> confident<00:32:53.839> you<00:32:53.935> can<00:32:54.160> drop<00:32:54.577> into<00:32:54.897> a<00:32:54.977> customer<00:32:55.539> environment,<00:32:56.244> any<00:32:56.420> customer<00:32:56.821> environment,<00:32:57.703> and<00:32:57.767> you<00:32:57.928> can<00:32:58.104> deliver<00:32:58.569> great<00:32:58.825> value<00:32:59.146> that's<00:32:59.451> literally<00:32:59.787> the<00:32:59.884> same<00:33:00.252> day.
00:33:00.525 --> 00:33:06.121
It's<00:33:01.070> not<00:33:01.214> something<00:33:01.535> where<00:33:01.647> they<00:33:01.792> invest<00:33:02.209> in<00:33:02.353> it<00:33:02.577> and<00:33:02.994> they<00:33:03.074> start<00:33:03.395> to<00:33:03.475> see<00:33:03.700> a<00:33:03.780> payoff<00:33:04.421> in<00:33:04.598> 3,<00:33:04.838> 6,<00:33:05.175> 9<00:33:05.479> months<00:33:05.800> or<00:33:05.880> a<00:33:06.025> year.
00:33:06.281 --> 00:33:07.508
It's<00:33:06.603> literally<00:33:07.007> the<00:33:07.104> same<00:33:07.411> day.
00:33:09.026 --> 00:33:09.899
That's<00:33:09.285> incredible.
00:33:10.061 --> 00:33:11.305
Um,<00:33:10.384> that's<00:33:10.562> actually<00:33:10.869> wild.
00:33:11.757 --> 00:33:13.276
What<00:33:11.838> does<00:33:11.951> a<00:33:12.016> typical<00:33:12.420> day<00:33:12.646> look<00:33:12.808> like<00:33:12.985> for<00:33:13.212> you?
00:33:14.750 --> 00:33:20.504
Let's<00:33:14.863> see,<00:33:15.252> my<00:33:17.376> typical<00:33:17.862> day<00:33:18.737> is<00:33:19.467> a<00:33:19.564> mixture<00:33:20.034> of<00:33:20.212> things.
00:33:21.169 --> 00:33:26.936
I<00:33:21.590> am<00:33:22.223> in<00:33:22.320> my<00:33:22.547> role,<00:33:23.200> I<00:33:23.298> think,<00:33:24.832> to<00:33:25.321> ensure—<00:33:25.811> well,<00:33:26.088> let<00:33:26.300> me<00:33:26.333> start<00:33:26.626> that<00:33:26.724> again.
00:33:30.572 --> 00:33:36.553
A<00:33:30.638> typical<00:33:31.116> day<00:33:31.380> for<00:33:31.545> me<00:33:32.478> is<00:33:32.847> very<00:33:33.505> adapted<00:33:34.131> to<00:33:34.708> the<00:33:34.869> needs<00:33:35.270> of<00:33:35.350> the<00:33:35.494> company<00:33:36.216> in<00:33:36.296> the<00:33:36.344> moment.
00:33:37.259 --> 00:33:42.456
So,<00:33:38.141> I<00:33:39.136> have<00:33:39.264> a<00:33:39.296> big<00:33:39.505> background<00:33:40.563> in<00:33:40.724> product,<00:33:41.750> as<00:33:41.911> you<00:33:41.991> mentioned.
00:33:42.504 --> 00:33:54.407
And<00:33:42.649> so,<00:33:43.691> we're<00:33:43.836> a<00:33:43.852> product-led<00:33:44.478> company<00:33:45.841> and<00:33:46.419> we<00:33:46.659> do<00:33:47.317> set<00:33:47.606> our<00:33:47.766> company<00:33:48.119> strategy<00:33:49.370> and<00:33:49.450> our<00:33:49.547> vision,<00:33:50.269> you<00:33:50.365> know,<00:33:50.894> inextricably<00:33:52.194> tied<00:33:52.579> to<00:33:53.012> our<00:33:53.140> product<00:33:53.461> strategy<00:33:53.878> and<00:33:54.022> direction.
00:33:55.225 --> 00:34:11.011
And<00:33:55.546> as<00:33:55.723> we<00:33:55.883> are,<00:33:55.979> for<00:33:56.188> example,<00:33:56.990> moving<00:33:57.327> through<00:33:57.648> a<00:33:57.728> big<00:33:58.049> launch<00:33:58.434> cycle,<00:33:59.477> I<00:33:59.557> will<00:33:59.670> spend<00:34:00.874> a<00:34:01.003> disproportionate<00:34:01.726> amount<00:34:01.919> of<00:34:01.967> my<00:34:02.143> time<00:34:02.529> with<00:34:02.690> the<00:34:02.786> product<00:34:03.188> team<00:34:03.429> and<00:34:03.653> engineering,<00:34:05.356> really<00:34:05.822> honing<00:34:06.963> the<00:34:07.107> final<00:34:08.489> mile<00:34:09.677> of<00:34:09.774> the<00:34:09.918> products<00:34:10.240> that<00:34:10.336> we're<00:34:10.481> bringing<00:34:10.657> to<00:34:10.738> market.
00:34:11.059 --> 00:34:12.971
And<00:34:11.139> there<00:34:11.236> are<00:34:11.300> so<00:34:11.637> many<00:34:11.782> moving<00:34:12.103> pieces<00:34:12.457> that<00:34:12.569> go<00:34:12.649> with<00:34:12.810> that.
00:34:13.067 --> 00:34:23.637
There<00:34:13.131> are<00:34:13.292> times<00:34:13.774> when<00:34:14.754> we<00:34:14.979> need<00:34:15.236> to<00:34:16.344> really<00:34:16.681> perfect<00:34:17.485> our<00:34:17.645> marketing<00:34:18.207> and<00:34:18.288> positioning<00:34:18.834> and<00:34:18.914> how<00:34:19.107> we<00:34:19.252> explain<00:34:20.135> some<00:34:20.376> of<00:34:20.521> these<00:34:20.778> new<00:34:20.938> innovations<00:34:21.822> in<00:34:21.902> a<00:34:21.982> language<00:34:22.448> that<00:34:22.545> everybody<00:34:22.946> can<00:34:23.107> understand.
00:34:24.376 --> 00:34:26.689
And<00:34:24.633> so,<00:34:24.858> I<00:34:24.938> will<00:34:25.035> shift<00:34:25.436> my<00:34:25.661> time<00:34:26.014> into<00:34:26.272> marketing.
00:34:27.187 --> 00:34:44.496
Or<00:34:27.267> if<00:34:27.363> it's<00:34:27.523> time<00:34:27.908> for<00:34:28.085> us<00:34:28.245> to,<00:34:28.711> you<00:34:28.759> know,<00:34:28.951> really<00:34:29.128> go<00:34:29.352> pedal<00:34:29.689> to<00:34:29.769> the<00:34:29.850> metal<00:34:30.170> in<00:34:30.251> the<00:34:30.331> go-to-market,<00:34:31.598> working<00:34:31.919> with<00:34:32.031> our<00:34:32.176> global<00:34:32.448> sales<00:34:32.817> force,<00:34:34.325> working<00:34:34.726> with<00:34:34.967> our<00:34:35.063> customer<00:34:35.544> success<00:34:36.170> organizations,<00:34:38.031> being<00:34:38.336> out<00:34:38.496> on<00:34:38.592> the<00:34:38.673> front<00:34:39.058> lines<00:34:39.796> and<00:34:39.940> ultimately<00:34:40.437> in<00:34:40.582> front<00:34:40.918> of<00:34:40.983> the<00:34:41.143> customers<00:34:42.908> is<00:34:43.341> supremely<00:34:44.047> important.
00:34:44.993 --> 00:34:53.303
And<00:34:45.073> so,<00:34:45.956> I<00:34:45.988> structure<00:34:46.469> my<00:34:46.613> day<00:34:46.774> to<00:34:46.870> make<00:34:47.095> sure,<00:34:47.800> you<00:34:47.881> know,<00:34:48.121> that<00:34:48.282> we<00:34:48.442> have<00:34:48.763> robust<00:34:49.244> interaction<00:34:49.742> and<00:34:49.902> engagement,<00:34:50.704> you<00:34:50.800> know,<00:34:51.490> in<00:34:51.586> those<00:34:51.891> key<00:34:52.228> functions<00:34:52.773> of<00:34:52.806> the<00:34:52.950> business.
00:34:54.459 --> 00:34:59.902
But<00:34:54.619> then<00:34:54.796> also<00:34:55.679> complement<00:34:56.241> that<00:34:56.562> with,<00:34:57.365> you<00:34:57.461> know,<00:34:57.606> really<00:34:57.847> investing<00:34:58.312> time<00:34:59.195> with<00:34:59.356> our<00:34:59.452> customers.
00:35:00.721 --> 00:35:14.353
And<00:35:01.315> I'll<00:35:01.459> tell<00:35:01.700> you,<00:35:03.145> that<00:35:03.370> is<00:35:03.531> one<00:35:03.691> of<00:35:03.804> the<00:35:03.852> easiest<00:35:04.494> things<00:35:04.976> for<00:35:05.811> CEOs<00:35:06.437> to<00:35:06.581> talk<00:35:06.854> about<00:35:07.465> and<00:35:07.641> say,<00:35:08.364> you<00:35:08.460> know,<00:35:09.167> be<00:35:09.343> the<00:35:09.472> customer,<00:35:10.355> use<00:35:10.596> your<00:35:10.756> product,<00:35:11.832> spend<00:35:12.137> time<00:35:12.458> with<00:35:12.603> your<00:35:12.763> customers,<00:35:13.261> listen<00:35:13.582> to<00:35:13.727> your<00:35:13.823> customers.
00:35:15.027 --> 00:35:22.558
But<00:35:15.172> it's<00:35:15.669> been<00:35:15.894> remarkable<00:35:16.392> to<00:35:16.537> me<00:35:17.580> how<00:35:17.773> elusive<00:35:19.202> that<00:35:19.443> tenant<00:35:19.924> is<00:35:20.390> or<00:35:20.551> how<00:35:20.808> easy<00:35:21.145> it<00:35:21.273> is<00:35:21.450> to<00:35:21.835> deprioritize<00:35:22.510> it.
00:35:23.441 --> 00:35:29.237
Because<00:35:23.858> you<00:35:23.955> allow<00:35:24.324> yourself<00:35:24.741> to<00:35:24.886> get<00:35:24.982> consumed<00:35:25.625> by<00:35:26.170> the<00:35:26.267> problems,<00:35:26.813> the<00:35:26.909> challenges,<00:35:27.696> the<00:35:27.792> issues<00:35:28.113> inside<00:35:28.595> your<00:35:28.740> own<00:35:28.900> company.
00:35:30.345 --> 00:35:31.999
Those<00:35:30.538> are<00:35:30.666> always<00:35:30.859> going<00:35:30.987> to<00:35:31.084> be<00:35:31.244> there<00:35:31.389> as<00:35:31.501> it<00:35:31.565> turns<00:35:31.887> out.
00:35:33.075 --> 00:35:37.603
Your<00:35:33.235> customers,<00:35:34.472> if<00:35:34.600> you<00:35:34.761> don't<00:35:35.002> take<00:35:35.242> care<00:35:35.564> of<00:35:35.724> them,<00:35:36.077> somebody<00:35:36.543> else<00:35:36.768> will,<00:35:37.346> right?
00:35:37.747 --> 00:35:39.931

00:36:26.689 --> 00:36:33.696
Well,<00:36:26.930> gee,<00:36:28.521> why<00:36:29.807> haven't<00:36:30.128> we<00:36:30.707> made<00:36:30.948> time<00:36:31.286> in<00:36:31.366> our<00:36:31.511> schedules<00:36:32.073> and<00:36:32.218> days<00:36:32.555> to<00:36:32.700> do<00:36:32.877> more<00:36:33.102> of<00:36:33.198> this,<00:36:33.503> right?
00:36:33.825 --> 00:36:36.441

That<00:37:36.802> is<00:37:36.883> such<00:37:37.274> a<00:37:37.339> great<00:37:37.518> point.
00:37:38.192 --> 00:37:41.462
The<00:37:38.433> need<00:37:38.913> for<00:37:39.539> that<00:37:39.779> human<00:37:40.116> connection<00:37:40.596> is<00:37:40.741> not<00:37:40.997> going<00:37:41.318> away.
00:37:42.279 --> 00:37:46.222
It's<00:37:42.424> only<00:37:42.600> getting<00:37:42.856> stronger<00:37:44.107> because<00:37:44.363> we<00:37:44.507> are<00:37:44.684> getting<00:37:45.004> lost<00:37:45.405> in<00:37:45.485> these<00:37:45.726> devices.
00:37:46.287 --> 00:37:47.745

00:37:48.210 --> 00:37:54.734
And<00:37:48.258> then<00:37:48.370> you<00:37:48.515> look<00:37:48.755> up<00:37:49.316> and,<00:37:49.797> you<00:37:49.845> know,<00:37:49.973> 6<00:37:50.278> months<00:37:50.454> later<00:37:50.759> you've<00:37:50.855> built<00:37:51.031> something<00:37:51.336> that<00:37:51.432> nobody<00:37:51.656> even<00:37:51.881> wants,<00:37:52.458> doesn't<00:37:52.762> even,<00:37:53.099> doesn't<00:37:53.371> even<00:37:53.499> need<00:37:53.612> because<00:37:53.884> you<00:37:53.916> never<00:37:54.044> talked<00:37:54.221> to<00:37:54.301> anybody<00:37:54.605> about<00:37:54.670> it.
00:37:56.064 --> 00:37:56.481
That's<00:37:56.288> right.
00:37:56.689 --> 00:38:08.862
And,<00:37:57.651> you<00:37:57.683> know,<00:37:57.827> unfortunately,<00:37:59.093> um,<00:38:00.167> you<00:38:00.328> know,<00:38:00.969> the,<00:38:02.091> these<00:38:02.780> long-term<00:38:03.213> effects<00:38:03.597> of<00:38:03.678> coming<00:38:03.982> out<00:38:04.078> of<00:38:04.158> COVID<00:38:04.719> and<00:38:04.800> remote<00:38:05.200> work<00:38:05.601> and<00:38:06.323> You<00:38:06.420> know,<00:38:06.709> even<00:38:06.950> Matterport,<00:38:07.528> it's<00:38:07.705> a<00:38:07.769> remote-first<00:38:08.556> company.
00:38:08.974 --> 00:38:11.031
We<00:38:09.119> have<00:38:09.777> physical<00:38:10.179> locations.
00:38:11.946 --> 00:38:18.581
We<00:38:12.011> have<00:38:12.187> coworking<00:38:12.814> space,<00:38:13.553> you<00:38:13.649> know,<00:38:13.954> collaboration<00:38:14.742> hubs<00:38:16.107> in<00:38:16.188> a<00:38:16.220> number<00:38:16.509> of<00:38:16.670> spots<00:38:17.168> around<00:38:17.409> the<00:38:17.489> country<00:38:17.762> and<00:38:17.826> around<00:38:18.115> the<00:38:18.212> world.
00:38:19.577 --> 00:38:22.775
But<00:38:19.674> it's<00:38:19.818> not<00:38:20.059> the<00:38:20.140> same<00:38:20.525> as<00:38:20.702> when<00:38:21.007> it<00:38:21.104> was<00:38:21.409> all<00:38:21.586> in<00:38:21.746> person<00:38:22.148> all<00:38:22.309> the<00:38:22.389> time.
00:38:23.417 --> 00:38:24.670
And<00:38:23.530> that<00:38:23.755> goes<00:38:24.060> for<00:38:24.156> customers,<00:38:24.558> too.
00:38:24.718 --> 00:38:26.550
So,<00:38:24.799> we<00:38:24.895> start<00:38:25.104> to<00:38:25.136> develop<00:38:25.618> these<00:38:25.827> habits,<00:38:26.309> right?

And<00:38:37.649> then,<00:38:37.873> we're<00:38:38.034> also<00:38:38.275> talking<00:38:38.484> to<00:38:38.596> customers<00:38:39.880> on<00:38:40.041> Zoom.
00:38:41.326 --> 00:38:53.432
And<00:38:41.807> while<00:38:42.064> there<00:38:42.289> is<00:38:42.321> some<00:38:42.562> efficiency<00:38:43.252> to<00:38:43.349> that<00:38:43.814> and<00:38:43.911> maybe<00:38:44.216> a<00:38:44.232> few<00:38:44.473> less<00:38:44.954> airplane<00:38:45.356> rides<00:38:45.837> and<00:38:45.998> hotel<00:38:46.480> bills,<00:38:47.668> nothing<00:38:48.230> replaces,<00:38:49.274> you<00:38:49.370> know,<00:38:49.932> being<00:38:50.253> in<00:38:50.333> the<00:38:50.478> field,<00:38:51.200> building<00:38:51.538> relationships<00:38:52.340> with<00:38:52.501> people<00:38:52.758> in<00:38:52.902> person.
00:38:54.091 --> 00:39:03.203
And<00:38:55.777> it's<00:38:55.953> remarkable<00:38:56.579> how<00:38:56.676> much<00:38:56.917> resistance<00:38:57.559> there<00:38:57.784> is<00:38:58.698> in<00:38:59.163> society<00:39:00.045> or,<00:39:00.510> you<00:39:00.542> know,<00:39:00.830> in<00:39:00.942> the<00:39:01.087> workforce<00:39:01.648> right<00:39:01.888> now<00:39:02.193> to<00:39:02.289> getting<00:39:02.594> back<00:39:02.866> to<00:39:03.010> that.
00:39:03.796 --> 00:39:14.937
And<00:39:04.132> my<00:39:04.309> strong<00:39:04.774> belief<00:39:05.238> is<00:39:05.495> that<00:39:06.617> that<00:39:06.842> has<00:39:07.082> a<00:39:07.178> trailing<00:39:08.445> negative<00:39:08.925> impact<00:39:09.807> on<00:39:10.048> the<00:39:10.128> success<00:39:10.625> of<00:39:10.705> companies<00:39:11.490> and<00:39:11.651> really<00:39:11.987> the<00:39:12.147> role<00:39:12.468> that<00:39:12.693> your<00:39:13.093> products<00:39:13.510> are<00:39:13.590> going<00:39:13.734> to<00:39:13.831> play<00:39:14.296> in<00:39:14.392> the<00:39:14.536> industry.
00:39:15.674 --> 00:39:17.021
No<00:39:15.899> question<00:39:16.235> about<00:39:16.492> it<00:39:16.540> in<00:39:16.636> my<00:39:16.732> mind.
00:39:17.598 --> 00:39:23.449
And<00:39:17.694> so,<00:39:18.239> I<00:39:18.319> think<00:39:18.463> it's<00:39:18.624> really<00:39:18.800> important<00:39:19.361> to<00:39:20.163> push<00:39:20.403> back<00:39:20.868> on<00:39:20.948> that<00:39:21.188> trend,<00:39:21.669> right?
00:39:23.753 --> 00:39:29.139
And<00:39:23.930> get<00:39:24.074> out<00:39:24.250> there<00:39:24.427> and<00:39:24.571> do<00:39:24.795> these<00:39:25.036> kinds<00:39:25.308> of<00:39:25.436> things<00:39:25.693> that<00:39:25.869> start<00:39:26.350> to<00:39:26.494> seem<00:39:26.879> a<00:39:26.959> little<00:39:27.200> bit<00:39:27.376> like,<00:39:27.841> you<00:39:27.937> know,<00:39:28.114> not<00:39:28.418> the<00:39:28.498> norm<00:39:28.883> anymore.
00:39:29.204 --> 00:39:31.489
Like,<00:39:29.364> look<00:39:29.524> at<00:39:29.556> that,<00:39:29.765> you<00:39:29.797> know,<00:39:30.407> out<00:39:30.569> there<00:39:30.730> talking<00:39:31.004> to<00:39:31.134> customers.
00:39:31.537 --> 00:39:33.507
Oh<00:39:31.570> my<00:39:31.779> God,<00:39:32.684> that's<00:39:32.990> unbelievable.
00:39:33.572 --> 00:39:35.686
Like,<00:39:34.217> why<00:39:34.395> is<00:39:34.540> that<00:39:34.702> such<00:39:34.879> a<00:39:35.008> big<00:39:35.170> deal<00:39:35.428> anymore?
00:39:38.610 --> 00:39:39.013
It's<00:39:38.755> fascinating.
00:39:39.190 --> 00:39:41.562
I<00:39:39.206> could<00:39:39.352> talk<00:39:39.529> to<00:39:39.594> you<00:39:39.674> forever,<00:39:39.933> but<00:39:40.094> I<00:39:40.158> want<00:39:40.304> to<00:39:40.336> be<00:39:40.417> respectful<00:39:40.917> of<00:39:40.997> your<00:39:41.143> time.
00:39:41.611 --> 00:39:49.111
So<00:39:41.788> we<00:39:41.949> end<00:39:42.095> every<00:39:42.272> interview<00:39:42.579> with<00:39:42.675> this<00:39:42.901> question,<00:39:43.966> and<00:39:44.111> that<00:39:44.353> is,<00:39:44.466> at<00:39:44.595> CEO.com,<00:39:45.499> we<00:39:45.660> believe<00:39:45.886> the<00:39:45.983> chances<00:39:46.467> one<00:39:46.709> gives<00:39:47.209> is<00:39:47.354> just<00:39:47.532> as<00:39:47.677> important<00:39:48.000> as<00:39:48.145> the<00:39:48.210> chances<00:39:48.564> one<00:39:48.725> takes.
00:39:49.835 --> 00:39:52.685
When<00:39:50.013> you<00:39:50.254> hear<00:39:50.479> that,<00:39:50.721> who<00:39:50.898> gave<00:39:51.139> you<00:39:51.284> a<00:39:51.300> chance<00:39:51.687> to<00:39:51.767> get<00:39:51.928> you<00:39:52.009> to<00:39:52.089> where<00:39:52.186> you<00:39:52.363> are<00:39:52.508> today?
00:39:54.423 --> 00:40:00.878
Yeah,<00:39:54.745> I<00:39:54.906> have<00:39:55.003> been<00:39:55.164> fortunate<00:39:55.808> to<00:39:55.953> have,<00:39:56.516> uh,<00:39:56.548> mentors<00:39:57.418> and<00:39:57.579> leaders<00:39:58.430> who<00:39:58.691> have<00:39:59.931> bet<00:40:00.241> on<00:40:00.339> my<00:40:00.568> vision.
00:40:01.890 --> 00:40:03.637
They<00:40:02.053> have<00:40:02.217> taken<00:40:02.559> a<00:40:02.690> chance<00:40:03.180> on<00:40:03.425> me.
00:40:05.051 --> 00:40:14.577
I<00:40:05.148> oftentimes<00:40:05.860> will<00:40:05.941> say<00:40:06.200> have<00:40:06.426> given<00:40:06.685> me<00:40:07.090> long<00:40:07.332> enough<00:40:07.575> rope<00:40:07.802> to<00:40:07.899> hang<00:40:08.142> myself<00:40:11.054> because<00:40:12.332> I'm<00:40:12.494> driven<00:40:12.996> to<00:40:13.157> drive<00:40:13.626> high-impact<00:40:14.271> change.
00:40:15.158 --> 00:40:16.867
And<00:40:15.319> high-impact<00:40:15.738> change<00:40:16.141> is<00:40:16.286> high<00:40:16.464> risk.
00:40:17.979 --> 00:40:30.234
And<00:40:19.189> a<00:40:19.269> lot<00:40:19.447> of<00:40:19.527> people,<00:40:20.172> a<00:40:20.188> lot<00:40:20.349> of<00:40:20.495> companies,<00:40:21.929> a<00:40:21.946> lot<00:40:22.107> of<00:40:22.204> investors,<00:40:23.990> maybe<00:40:24.091> for,<00:40:24.278> say,<00:40:24.532> for<00:40:24.685> the<00:40:24.769> Silicon<00:40:25.125> Valley<00:40:25.363> investors,<00:40:27.578> are<00:40:27.820> not<00:40:28.061> that<00:40:28.802> instinctively<00:40:29.429> comfortable<00:40:29.912> with<00:40:30.073> risk.
00:40:31.442 --> 00:40:45.572
And<00:40:32.504> there's<00:40:32.714> certainly<00:40:34.259> added<00:40:34.581> risk<00:40:34.919> to<00:40:35.080> your<00:40:35.402> idea<00:40:36.529> if<00:40:36.755> you<00:40:36.916> are<00:40:37.077> an<00:40:37.319> unproven<00:40:40.017> leader<00:40:40.550> yourself<00:40:41.212> as<00:40:41.389> a<00:40:41.519> young<00:40:41.696> leader<00:40:42.019> coming<00:40:42.407> in<00:40:42.504> with<00:40:42.730> these<00:40:42.892> great<00:40:43.134> ideas<00:40:43.699> without<00:40:44.038> the<00:40:44.119> track<00:40:44.507> record<00:40:44.910> to<00:40:45.007> back<00:40:45.330> it<00:40:45.476> up.
00:40:47.104 --> 00:40:47.958
You<00:40:47.200> need<00:40:47.410> champions.
00:40:48.861 --> 00:40:53.519
And<00:40:49.102> my<00:40:49.280> champions<00:40:49.763> began<00:40:50.086> with<00:40:50.231> my<00:40:50.408> dad<00:40:50.730> back<00:40:50.972> when<00:40:51.117> I<00:40:51.198> couldn't<00:40:51.440> write<00:40:51.601> a<00:40:51.697> business<00:40:52.020> plan<00:40:52.246> to<00:40:52.278> save<00:40:52.584> my<00:40:52.729> life,<00:40:52.971> but<00:40:53.051> he<00:40:53.229> bet<00:40:53.390> on<00:40:53.471> me.
00:40:53.630 --> 00:40:55.249
And<00:40:53.710> he<00:40:53.758> said,<00:40:53.982> "You<00:40:54.078> know<00:40:55.008> what?
00:40:55.970 --> 00:40:57.188
3<00:40:56.146> strikes,<00:40:56.547> you're<00:40:56.772> out.
00:40:57.733 --> 00:40:59.401
You<00:40:57.830> need<00:40:57.990> to<00:40:58.070> take<00:40:58.246> some<00:40:58.471> English<00:40:58.856> classes.
00:40:59.497 --> 00:41:05.380
You<00:40:59.593> got<00:40:59.833> the<00:40:59.914> technology<00:41:00.635> down,<00:41:00.795> but<00:41:01.501> focus<00:41:01.982> on<00:41:02.142> how<00:41:02.382> you<00:41:02.479> can<00:41:02.655> formulate<00:41:04.082> a<00:41:04.162> business<00:41:04.563> case,<00:41:05.108> right?
00:41:05.589 --> 00:41:10.254
And<00:41:05.749> take<00:41:05.925> an<00:41:06.070> economics<00:41:06.550> class,<00:41:06.791> formulate<00:41:07.608> your<00:41:08.410> business<00:41:08.875> model.
00:41:11.135 --> 00:41:13.316
Those<00:41:11.376> tools<00:41:11.921> are<00:41:12.017> going<00:41:12.241> to<00:41:12.338> be<00:41:12.562> invaluable<00:41:13.203> for<00:41:13.283> you.
00:41:13.380 --> 00:41:20.611
Don't<00:41:13.620> forget<00:41:14.021> them."<00:41:14.742> And<00:41:14.822> he<00:41:14.983> bet<00:41:15.207> on<00:41:15.367> me<00:41:16.009> and<00:41:16.105> I<00:41:16.329> turned<00:41:16.522> that<00:41:16.730> into<00:41:16.906> something<00:41:18.510> and<00:41:18.590> I<00:41:18.734> could<00:41:18.894> go<00:41:19.071> through<00:41:19.295> all—<00:41:19.616> all<00:41:19.696> the<00:41:19.776> way<00:41:19.953> through<00:41:20.097> my<00:41:20.274> career.
00:41:20.659 --> 00:41:25.569
I<00:41:20.739> can<00:41:20.916> talk<00:41:21.172> about,<00:41:21.638> you<00:41:21.734> know,<00:41:22.536> some<00:41:22.777> of<00:41:22.921> the<00:41:24.205> biggest<00:41:24.526> bets<00:41:24.831> we<00:41:24.927> made<00:41:25.152> at<00:41:25.232> Apple.
00:41:26.436 --> 00:41:30.640
Tim<00:41:26.692> Cook<00:41:26.949> at<00:41:27.495> the<00:41:27.575> time<00:41:27.880> was<00:41:28.040> the<00:41:28.121> COO<00:41:29.324> and<00:41:29.822> Steve<00:41:30.207> was<00:41:30.303> still<00:41:30.544> there.
00:41:30.704 --> 00:41:46.607
And<00:41:30.849> we<00:41:31.009> were<00:41:31.266> taking<00:41:31.587> some<00:41:31.747> big<00:41:31.988> bets<00:41:33.015> in<00:41:33.111> transforming<00:41:34.154> how<00:41:34.539> we<00:41:34.636> brought<00:41:35.037> Apple<00:41:35.342> online<00:41:35.839> and<00:41:35.984> what<00:41:36.144> apple.com<00:41:36.882> was<00:41:37.043> going<00:41:37.155> to<00:41:37.267> look<00:41:37.444> like,<00:41:38.230> how<00:41:38.407> we<00:41:38.487> would<00:41:38.712> reimagine<00:41:39.353> and<00:41:39.450> reinvent<00:41:40.156> e-commerce<00:41:41.359> for<00:41:41.600> Apple<00:41:41.793> as<00:41:41.953> a<00:41:42.081> consumer<00:41:42.804> tech<00:41:43.044> company,<00:41:43.462> not<00:41:43.766> a<00:41:44.489> computer<00:41:44.986> company<00:41:45.467> for<00:41:45.692> creatives<00:41:46.286> anymore.
00:41:47.456 --> 00:42:07.519
And<00:41:48.418> those<00:41:48.658> were<00:41:48.754> high-stakes<00:41:49.475> investments<00:41:50.181> that,<00:41:50.581> you<00:41:50.661> know,<00:41:50.822> had<00:41:50.998> the,<00:41:51.543> you<00:41:51.655> know,<00:41:52.344> stood<00:41:52.761> to<00:41:53.065> either<00:41:54.427> help<00:41:54.748> make<00:41:55.068> Apple<00:41:55.324> very<00:41:55.565> successful<00:41:56.126> or<00:41:56.270> could<00:41:56.430> also<00:41:56.767> cost<00:41:57.231> us,<00:41:57.712> you<00:41:57.808> know,<00:41:58.049> some<00:41:58.914> heavy,<00:41:59.251> heavy<00:41:59.571> penalties<00:42:00.356> in<00:42:00.516> trying<00:42:01.013> to<00:42:01.254> bring<00:42:01.814> an<00:42:01.959> entirely<00:42:02.536> new<00:42:02.840> user<00:42:03.177> base<00:42:04.122> onto<00:42:04.763> Apple<00:42:05.019> through<00:42:05.180> the<00:42:05.340> internet,<00:42:05.821> which<00:42:06.061> is<00:42:06.221> not<00:42:06.542> where<00:42:06.686> Apple<00:42:06.942> started,<00:42:07.343> right?
00:42:07.567 --> 00:42:11.846
They're,<00:42:08.128> you<00:42:08.224> know,<00:42:08.801> a<00:42:08.929> products<00:42:09.490> company<00:42:09.891> at<00:42:09.987> their<00:42:10.211> core,<00:42:10.548> not<00:42:10.852> an<00:42:10.948> internet<00:42:11.205> service<00:42:11.589> company.
00:42:11.910 --> 00:42:14.395
And<00:42:11.990> so<00:42:12.166> this<00:42:12.375> was<00:42:12.535> all<00:42:13.112> new<00:42:13.272> territory<00:42:13.914> for<00:42:14.075> them.
00:42:15.037 --> 00:42:32.138
And<00:42:16.481> Tim<00:42:16.721> was<00:42:18.069> one<00:42:18.245> of<00:42:18.342> these<00:42:18.630> guys<00:42:19.288> that<00:42:20.892> consistently<00:42:22.400> through<00:42:22.817> his<00:42:23.138> time<00:42:23.684> at<00:42:23.844> Apple<00:42:24.325> has<00:42:24.502> bet<00:42:24.662> on<00:42:24.807> so<00:42:25.128> many<00:42:25.946> people<00:42:27.053> and<00:42:27.309> so<00:42:27.550> many<00:42:27.791> concepts<00:42:28.577> that<00:42:29.379> have<00:42:30.277> done<00:42:30.518> things<00:42:31.560> to<00:42:31.657> this<00:42:31.865> company.
00:42:32.186 --> 00:42:35.940
And<00:42:32.266> you<00:42:32.363> can<00:42:32.507> see<00:42:32.748> where<00:42:32.844> the<00:42:32.924> value—<00:42:33.165> this<00:42:33.325> most<00:42:33.550> valuable<00:42:33.887> company<00:42:34.207> in<00:42:34.304> the<00:42:34.432> world<00:42:35.218> for<00:42:35.314> the<00:42:35.411> most<00:42:35.651> part.
00:42:36.678 --> 00:42:39.678
And<00:42:38.041> I<00:42:38.138> don't<00:42:38.282> forget<00:42:38.683> any<00:42:38.924> of<00:42:39.020> these<00:42:39.261> bets,<00:42:39.565> right?
00:42:39.742 --> 00:42:42.726
Same<00:42:40.143> thing<00:42:40.303> at<00:42:40.448> Google,<00:42:41.122> same<00:42:41.490> thing<00:42:41.908> in<00:42:41.988> my<00:42:42.084> startups.
00:42:44.336 --> 00:42:47.091
These<00:42:44.644> kinds<00:42:44.984> of<00:42:45.065> people<00:42:46.362> paved<00:42:46.702> the<00:42:46.832> way.
00:42:47.642 --> 00:42:58.287
And<00:42:47.804> I<00:42:47.885> would<00:42:48.047> say<00:42:48.469> that<00:42:49.441> by<00:42:49.603> the<00:42:49.684> time<00:42:49.927> I<00:42:50.073> even<00:42:50.171> got<00:42:50.333> to<00:42:50.414> Matterport,<00:42:51.439> the<00:42:51.471> proposition<00:42:52.099> on<00:42:52.196> the<00:42:52.341> table<00:42:52.679> for<00:42:52.824> the<00:42:52.905> company<00:42:53.324> was<00:42:55.403> this<00:42:55.564> could<00:42:55.661> be<00:42:55.886> an<00:42:55.983> interesting<00:42:56.450> company<00:42:56.950> or<00:42:57.111> it<00:42:57.192> could<00:42:57.353> be<00:42:57.578> one<00:42:57.756> for<00:42:57.868> the<00:42:58.062> ages.
00:42:58.852 --> 00:43:03.055
But<00:42:59.498> if<00:42:59.579> you<00:42:59.676> want<00:42:59.886> the<00:42:59.983> one<00:43:00.145> for<00:43:00.290> the<00:43:00.468> ages,<00:43:01.099> it<00:43:01.745> might<00:43:01.988> be<00:43:02.085> a<00:43:02.166> zero-sum<00:43:02.731> game.
00:43:03.863 --> 00:43:11.061
We<00:43:03.960> may<00:43:04.105> have<00:43:04.332> to<00:43:04.413> go<00:43:04.590> all<00:43:04.914> in<00:43:06.045> to<00:43:06.207> get<00:43:06.433> to<00:43:08.230> this<00:43:08.410> plateau<00:43:08.983> for<00:43:09.540> Matterport,<00:43:10.374> and<00:43:10.456> it<00:43:10.538> may<00:43:10.701> not<00:43:10.947> work.
00:43:11.506 --> 00:43:13.531
And<00:43:11.603> I<00:43:11.683> may<00:43:11.924> not<00:43:12.165> be<00:43:12.310> the<00:43:12.406> guy<00:43:12.631> to<00:43:12.728> do<00:43:12.888> it,<00:43:13.290> right?
00:43:13.676 --> 00:43:19.879
Or<00:43:13.756> I<00:43:13.869> might<00:43:14.094> be<00:43:14.174> the<00:43:14.319> guy<00:43:14.576> that<00:43:14.656> takes<00:43:14.978> this<00:43:15.219> fantastic<00:43:15.765> company<00:43:17.613> and<00:43:17.871> shoots<00:43:18.256> a<00:43:18.754> hole<00:43:19.140> in<00:43:19.221> the<00:43:19.301> hull<00:43:19.494> of<00:43:19.558> the<00:43:19.638> boat.
00:43:22.088 --> 00:43:27.371
But<00:43:22.893> you<00:43:22.974> don't<00:43:23.135> have<00:43:23.231> to<00:43:23.376> hire<00:43:23.650> me<00:43:23.956> and<00:43:24.423> I<00:43:24.520> don't<00:43:24.665> have<00:43:24.826> to<00:43:24.923> come<00:43:25.148> in<00:43:25.744> and<00:43:26.050> take<00:43:26.276> on<00:43:26.679> the<00:43:26.759> CEO<00:43:27.178> role.
00:43:27.500 --> 00:43:30.625
But<00:43:28.209> this<00:43:28.531> is<00:43:28.644> the<00:43:28.773> kinds<00:43:29.127> of<00:43:29.272> things<00:43:29.594> that<00:43:29.691> would<00:43:29.836> be<00:43:29.997> at<00:43:30.158> stake.
00:43:32.024 --> 00:43:38.830
And<00:43:32.169> if<00:43:32.266> you<00:43:32.427> choose<00:43:32.912> the<00:43:34.122> safe<00:43:34.526> and<00:43:34.606> the<00:43:34.832> easy<00:43:35.074> path<00:43:35.478> and<00:43:35.575> you<00:43:35.655> want<00:43:35.817> to<00:43:35.898> just,<00:43:37.114> Hey,<00:43:37.276> if<00:43:37.357> it<00:43:37.502> ain't<00:43:37.664> broke,<00:43:37.924> don't<00:43:38.150> try<00:43:38.247> to<00:43:38.393> fix<00:43:38.733> it.
00:43:38.895 --> 00:43:44.790
Let's<00:43:39.073> stay<00:43:39.381> the<00:43:39.462> path<00:43:39.867> here<00:43:40.029> with<00:43:40.175> Matterport<00:43:40.741> and<00:43:40.855> incrementally,<00:43:42.377> you<00:43:42.474> know,<00:43:42.701> carefully<00:43:43.332> work<00:43:43.575> our<00:43:43.672> way<00:43:43.915> up<00:43:44.077> to<00:43:44.223> success.
00:43:45.114 --> 00:43:45.920
I'm<00:43:45.453> not<00:43:45.614> the<00:43:45.694> guy.
00:43:47.127 --> 00:43:53.004
And<00:43:48.254> those<00:43:48.512> people,<00:43:48.995> those<00:43:49.172> investors,<00:43:49.655> those<00:43:49.800> board<00:43:50.042> members<00:43:50.348> who<00:43:50.525> bet<00:43:50.750> on<00:43:50.992> me<00:43:52.376> are<00:43:52.602> the<00:43:52.666> same.
00:43:53.101 --> 00:43:58.754
It<00:43:53.584> means<00:43:53.906> just<00:43:54.244> as<00:43:54.389> much<00:43:54.631> to<00:43:54.889> me<00:43:55.115> later<00:43:55.439> in<00:43:55.584> my<00:43:55.762> career<00:43:56.312> as<00:43:56.635> my<00:43:56.813> dad<00:43:57.137> did<00:43:57.460> at<00:43:57.557> the<00:43:57.703> beginning<00:43:58.042> of<00:43:58.091> my<00:43:58.350> career.
00:44:01.261 --> 00:44:02.134
And<00:44:01.342> I<00:44:01.487> have<00:44:01.665> to<00:44:01.827> earn<00:44:01.988> that.
00:44:02.896 --> 00:44:03.538
Every<00:44:03.073> single<00:44:03.377> time.
00:44:03.618 --> 00:44:05.317
I<00:44:03.634> got<00:44:03.762> to<00:44:03.938> earn<00:44:04.099> it,<00:44:04.355> you<00:44:04.451> know,<00:44:04.756> on<00:44:04.852> the<00:44:04.932> next<00:44:05.221> one.
00:44:06.263 --> 00:44:16.041
And<00:44:06.359> so,<00:44:06.760> the<00:44:06.904> way<00:44:07.080> I<00:44:07.241> pay<00:44:07.465> that<00:44:07.706> back<00:44:08.106> is<00:44:08.363> with<00:44:08.667> all<00:44:08.764> the<00:44:08.860> leaders<00:44:09.228> I<00:44:09.389> work<00:44:09.565> with,<00:44:09.950> I<00:44:10.110> mentor,<00:44:11.473> that<00:44:11.585> I<00:44:11.649> get<00:44:11.825> to<00:44:12.210> work<00:44:12.435> alongside<00:44:13.156> of,<00:44:14.198> it's<00:44:14.374> the<00:44:14.503> same<00:44:14.839> script<00:44:15.240> and<00:44:15.320> the<00:44:15.352> same<00:44:15.641> playbook.
00:44:16.202 --> 00:44:20.979
I<00:44:16.378> give<00:44:16.683> them<00:44:17.901> a<00:44:18.061> lot<00:44:18.366> of<00:44:18.462> encouragement<00:44:19.745> to<00:44:19.905> take<00:44:20.161> smart<00:44:20.626> risks.
00:44:21.748 --> 00:44:22.967
I've<00:44:21.893> learned<00:44:22.069> a<00:44:22.133> lot<00:44:22.309> of<00:44:22.342> the<00:44:22.454> hard<00:44:22.694> lessons.
00:44:23.031 --> 00:44:27.375
I<00:44:23.047> don't<00:44:23.191> want<00:44:23.416> them<00:44:23.512> to<00:44:23.977> repeat,<00:44:25.115> you<00:44:25.211> know,<00:44:25.532> some<00:44:25.916> of<00:44:26.141> the<00:44:26.718> easy<00:44:27.022> ones.
00:44:27.600 --> 00:44:28.513
There's<00:44:27.856> no<00:44:28.000> point<00:44:28.305> in<00:44:28.385> that.
00:44:28.722 --> 00:44:30.536
Let's<00:44:29.444> not<00:44:29.669> revisit<00:44:30.087> history.
00:44:30.986 --> 00:44:32.399
So,<00:44:31.146> let's<00:44:31.355> make<00:44:31.532> smart<00:44:32.014> risks.
00:44:32.720 --> 00:44:37.987
But<00:44:33.699> if<00:44:33.860> they<00:44:34.021> flop<00:44:34.743> or<00:44:34.888> they<00:44:35.145> implode<00:44:35.771> on<00:44:35.947> you,<00:44:36.814> I'm<00:44:36.975> there<00:44:37.216> providing<00:44:37.649> air<00:44:37.794> cover.
00:44:38.516 --> 00:44:43.012
And<00:44:38.613> I'm<00:44:38.757> there<00:44:39.078> to<00:44:39.544> help<00:44:39.785> you<00:44:40.122> get<00:44:40.347> back<00:44:40.668> up<00:44:40.925> and<00:44:41.005> we're<00:44:41.150> going<00:44:41.230> to<00:44:41.326> take<00:44:41.503> another<00:44:41.792> swing<00:44:42.145> and<00:44:42.209> we're<00:44:42.322> going<00:44:42.434> to<00:44:42.515> keep<00:44:42.755> at<00:44:42.948> it.
00:44:43.719 --> 00:44:53.545
It's<00:44:43.895> that<00:44:44.040> critical<00:44:44.506> moment<00:44:44.859> where<00:44:46.529> either<00:44:46.930> you<00:44:47.829> develop<00:44:48.311> people<00:44:48.712> into<00:44:49.515> the<00:44:49.660> kind<00:44:49.997> of<00:44:50.093> leaders<00:44:50.398> that<00:44:50.543> have<00:44:50.736> the<00:44:50.880> courage<00:44:52.325> and<00:44:52.405> the<00:44:52.486> stamina<00:44:53.128> to<00:44:53.272> fail.
00:44:54.477 --> 00:45:02.937
But<00:44:54.669> not<00:44:54.894> just<00:44:55.135> fail,<00:44:55.376> but<00:44:55.536> to<00:44:55.761> really<00:44:57.399> extract<00:44:57.960> the<00:44:58.041> value<00:44:58.506> and<00:44:58.587> the<00:44:58.747> learning,<00:44:59.373> you<00:44:59.470> know,<00:45:00.096> from<00:45:00.979> how<00:45:01.171> important<00:45:01.541> it<00:45:01.637> is<00:45:01.781> to<00:45:01.878> take<00:45:02.119> those<00:45:02.359> big<00:45:02.520> swings.
00:45:03.146 --> 00:45:09.343
And<00:45:03.724> very<00:45:03.965> quickly,<00:45:04.928> you<00:45:05.089> can<00:45:05.394> iterate<00:45:05.795> your<00:45:05.891> way<00:45:06.213> into,<00:45:06.758> you<00:45:06.855> know,<00:45:07.015> being<00:45:07.401> a<00:45:07.481> transformative<00:45:08.460> leader<00:45:08.765> for<00:45:08.926> a<00:45:08.942> company.
00:45:09.407 --> 00:45:11.767
And<00:45:09.504> we<00:45:09.600> need<00:45:09.825> a<00:45:09.905> lot<00:45:10.210> more<00:45:11.029> people<00:45:11.334> like<00:45:11.511> that.
00:45:11.832 --> 00:45:20.565
We<00:45:11.912> need<00:45:12.618> the<00:45:12.715> people,<00:45:13.437> you<00:45:13.533> know,<00:45:13.678> like<00:45:13.919> the<00:45:13.999> Tim<00:45:14.304> Cooks<00:45:14.577> and<00:45:14.705> the<00:45:14.770> Marissa<00:45:15.139> Mayer,<00:45:15.524> who,<00:45:15.926> you<00:45:16.022> know,<00:45:16.311> was<00:45:16.407> my<00:45:16.648> boss<00:45:17.194> at<00:45:17.515> Google,<00:45:18.880> who<00:45:19.056> make<00:45:19.377> those<00:45:19.618> kinds<00:45:19.939> of<00:45:20.019> bets<00:45:20.260> in<00:45:20.421> people.
00:45:22.088 --> 00:45:33.868
Because<00:45:22.729> it<00:45:23.290> doesn't<00:45:23.611> just<00:45:23.771> make<00:45:23.947> the<00:45:24.091> companies<00:45:25.133> better,<00:45:25.390> but<00:45:25.550> it<00:45:25.694> creates,<00:45:26.415> I'd<00:45:26.576> say,<00:45:26.752> a<00:45:26.896> workforce,<00:45:27.489> a<00:45:27.553> society,<00:45:28.595> and<00:45:28.659> an<00:45:28.899> industry<00:45:30.775> full<00:45:32.185> of<00:45:32.345> the<00:45:32.377> next<00:45:32.762> great<00:45:33.082> leaders<00:45:33.403> of<00:45:33.483> our<00:45:33.563> time.
00:45:35.230 --> 00:45:37.057
RJ,<00:45:35.486> thank<00:45:35.711> you<00:45:35.791> so<00:45:35.983> much<00:45:36.512> for<00:45:36.608> coming<00:45:36.913> on.
00:45:37.105 --> 00:45:38.211
Seriously,<00:45:37.506> it<00:45:37.570> means<00:45:37.810> a<00:45:37.891> lot.
00:45:38.435 --> 00:45:42.667
And<00:45:39.413> wow,<00:45:39.894> I<00:45:39.910> mean,<00:45:40.118> come<00:45:40.295> back<00:45:40.519> on<00:45:40.695> soon<00:45:40.872> because<00:45:41.240> we<00:45:41.577> barely<00:45:41.897> scratched<00:45:42.218> the<00:45:42.298> surface.
00:45:43.420 --> 00:45:44.077
Look<00:45:43.564> forward<00:45:43.821> to<00:45:43.981> it.
00:45:44.125 --> 00:45:44.846
Thanks<00:45:44.301> for<00:45:44.462> having<00:45:44.702> me.
