Jonathan Shank started in the bathrooms of the House of Blues
Jonathan Shank's first job in the music business was hanging flyers in the bathrooms of the House of Blues New Orleans. The club had just opened. It was 1994, and that year's lineup included Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, Bill Monroe, the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.
"It all sounds very unglamorous," Shank told CEO.com. "But in between those things, I attended almost all of the soundchecks and got to observe the entire process: load-in, soundcheck, show execution, what was the venue's responsibility versus the artist's responsibility."
Shank now runs Terrapin Station Entertainment, a Los Angeles-based division of Sony Music Entertainment that will produce around 225 shows this year. His career contains a swerve almost nobody else in the business can claim. He spent five years managing Mickey Hart, drummer of the Grateful Dead, work that won him a Grammy in 2009 for the Global Drum Project album. He also produces Peppa Pig Live!
The route between those two points started with an internship for the record producer Kim Fowley, which mostly involved listening to Fowley work the phones. When Shank left New Orleans for Los Angeles, Fowley sent him off with a stack of his own business cards. On the back of each one he had written, "Hire this guy." The plan was for Shank to hand one over at job interviews.
Shank never used them. He got hired anyway, landing in the agency business and booking classic rock acts: the Marshall Tucker Band, Dave Mason, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore of The Doors, Dave Davies of The Kinks, Jefferson Starship. He booked fairs, festivals, clubs, theaters, amphitheaters, arenas, and once, Marshall Tucker at the Super Bowl in Tampa Bay.
Then came management. War, Isaac Hayes, LFO, and eventually Particle, an instrumental electronic band out of Los Angeles that played Coachella, Bonnaroo, and 10,000 Lakes within two years of signing with him. One year, they did 170 shows. Stints with Irving Azoff and a decade at Red Light Management followed, with a client list that ran from Eve and Panic! at the Disco to Smashing Pumpkins and Victoria Justice.
Hart was the client who left the deepest mark. Terrapin Station is a Grateful Dead album from 1977, and the debt goes past the name. In a guest essay for Pollstar, Shank argued that the band helped spawn what the industry now calls direct-to-consumer ticketing through its mail-order ticket service, and that tape-trading Deadheads were "at the forefront of what would become the seeds of social media."
Terrapin Station Entertainment launched during the pandemic to license intellectual property and turn it into live stage productions, mostly for preschoolers and their parents. Franchises like Disney Junior Dance Party On Tour and Peppa Pig Live! have grossed more than $80 million at the box office. In the summer of 2025, the company produced The Heart of Town with Dayglo Presents, a three-night concert series hosted by Grahame Lesh at San Francisco's Pier 48, marking the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary. That September, Terrapin and TEG Life Like Touring launched the North American debut of Gabby's Dollhouse Live! Presented by Walmart across more than 75 cities, then added a second leg of more than 40 cities beginning January 2026. Shank also joined the board of Music Will and co-chaired its 2025 benefit honoring Wyclef Jean, Sara Bareilles, Jackson Browne, and Kristin Chenoweth. And he hosts The Jam, a podcast about the jam band scene, which he told CEO.com is about to launch its fourth season.
"I always say Terrapin was born out of the idea of bringing together mythical, magical, and iconic characters and giving them one place to gather," he said.
When Shank arrived in Los Angeles in the '90s, A&R was the hottest job in music. There were lines around the corner for openings. Those jobs barely exist now, he says, because anyone with a smartphone can discover artists, and by the time a label gets involved, a fan base and infrastructure are often already built. He thinks the audience got sharper in the process. People can tell what's authentic.
He is similarly unbothered by AI. The business he entered has already survived the jump from vinyl to cassette to CD to streaming, and it survived Napster. "That's the one thing I don't think AI can truly do," he said. "Think outside the box."
"I think the people behind the scenes are the real rock stars," he said when asked about leadership. "They're the ones empowering what happens onstage and helping create inspiration for millions, potentially billions, of people."
Every CEO.com interview ends with the same question, because the chances one gives are just as important as the chances one takes. Who gave you a chance? Shank had a list ready. Sonny at the House of Blues. Fowley. Michael Gaiman. Ron Rainey. The late Peter Shields. Steve Jensen, who still manages Katy Perry.
"I've had the opportunity to sit down with most of them, look them in the eye, and thank them personally," Shank said. "That's a really important and powerful thing to do once you realize how much someone impacted your life."

was<00:05:28.120> this<00:05:28.360> electronic<00:05:29.800> uh<00:05:30.200> instrumental<00:05:30.680> electronic<00:05:31.320> band<00:05:31.840> out<00:05:31.960> of<00:05:32.040> Los<00:05:32.280> Angeles,<00:05:33.440> and<00:05:34.600> um<00:05:35.080> really<00:05:36.800> got
00:05:37.120 --> 00:05:39.840
a<00:05:37.200> tremendous<00:05:37.760> amount<00:05:37.960> of<00:05:38.040> experience<00:05:38.640> managing<00:05:39.120> them.
00:05:39.840 --> 00:05:48.680
Oh,<00:05:40.120> when<00:05:40.320> I<00:05:40.400> first<00:05:40.640> started<00:05:40.880> managing<00:05:41.200> them,<00:05:41.320> within<00:05:41.560> the<00:05:41.680> first<00:05:43.400> 2<00:05:44.000> years,<00:05:45.560> they<00:05:45.840> played
00:05:48.680 --> 00:05:51.560
Bonnaroo,
00:05:51.560 --> 00:05:59.880
10,000<00:05:52.240> Lakes,<00:05:52.560> which<00:05:52.760> doesn't<00:05:53.040> exist<00:05:53.480> anymore,<00:05:55.280> and<00:05:55.640> we're<00:05:56.160> headlining,<00:05:57.880> you<00:05:57.960> know,<00:05:58.560> 1,000<00:05:59.040> to<00:05:59.120> 2,000<00:05:59.640> seat
00:05:59.880 --> 00:06:02.120
clubs<00:06:00.880> around<00:06:01.560> the<00:06:01.640> country.
00:06:02.120 --> 00:06:06.120
We<00:06:02.200> did<00:06:02.360> 170<00:06:03.880> shows<00:06:04.440> in<00:06:04.760> 1<00:06:05.000> year.
00:06:06.120 --> 00:06:12.680
Um<00:06:06.606> [laughter]<00:06:07.092> Oh,<00:06:07.578> wow.<00:06:08.065> And<00:06:08.551> um<00:06:09.037> they<00:06:09.523> had<00:06:10.009> an<00:06:10.495> amazing<00:06:10.982> run<00:06:11.468> at<00:06:11.954> that<00:06:12.440> time.
00:06:12.680 --> 00:06:16.040
Actually<00:06:13.000> played<00:06:13.600> three<00:06:13.920> of<00:06:14.000> the<00:06:14.120> first<00:06:14.440> four<00:06:14.680> Bonnaroo's.
00:06:16.040 --> 00:06:24.360
And<00:06:17.720> uh<00:06:17.800> really<00:06:18.360> at<00:06:18.600> the<00:06:19.560> at<00:06:19.800> the<00:06:20.680> dawn<00:06:21.080> of<00:06:21.200> Bonnaroo,<00:06:21.720> because<00:06:22.080> it<00:06:22.200> was<00:06:22.520> the<00:06:22.640> first<00:06:23.800> uh<00:06:24.040> first
00:06:24.360 --> 00:06:31.080
iterations<00:06:24.960> of<00:06:25.040> that<00:06:25.280> festival.<00:06:25.840> And<00:06:26.400> that<00:06:26.600> was<00:06:26.800> really<00:06:27.040> impactful<00:06:27.600> in<00:06:27.680> terms<00:06:28.000> of<00:06:28.120> seeing<00:06:28.960> artist<00:06:29.280> development,<00:06:29.880> etc.
00:06:31.080 --> 00:06:39.440
And<00:06:31.400> then,<00:06:32.000> you<00:06:32.120> know,<00:06:32.280> I<00:06:32.360> had<00:06:32.600> management<00:06:33.200> jobs<00:06:33.919> uh<00:06:34.080> with<00:06:34.840> uh<00:06:34.919> Irving<00:06:35.240> Azoff<00:06:35.760> and<00:06:35.960> and<00:06:36.120> Red<00:06:36.360> Light<00:06:36.680> and<00:06:37.000> and<00:06:37.240> did<00:06:37.760> both<00:06:38.000> day-to-day<00:06:38.720> and<00:06:39.120> direct
00:06:39.440 --> 00:06:48.960
management<00:06:40.120> for<00:06:41.120> um<00:06:42.440> everybody<00:06:42.919> from<00:06:43.440> Eve<00:06:43.919> to<00:06:44.360> Paula<00:06:44.640> Abdul,<00:06:45.000> Smashing<00:06:45.640> Pumpkins,<00:06:46.800> Aly<00:06:47.040> &<00:06:47.120> AJ,<00:06:48.600> Coco
00:06:48.960 --> 00:06:55.200
Jones,<00:06:49.400> Victoria<00:06:49.880> Justice.<00:06:50.960> Had<00:06:51.160> a<00:06:51.200> really<00:06:51.560> nice<00:06:52.040> run<00:06:52.360> of<00:06:52.520> managing<00:06:53.600> a<00:06:53.680> ton<00:06:54.000> of<00:06:54.080> different<00:06:54.400> artists.
00:06:55.200 --> 00:07:00.360
And<00:06:55.360> the<00:06:55.440> most<00:06:55.720> impactful<00:06:56.320> being<00:06:56.720> the<00:06:56.880> time<00:06:57.120> that<00:06:57.280> I<00:06:57.360> had<00:06:57.640> with<00:06:58.160> um<00:06:58.400> Mickey<00:06:58.720> Hart<00:06:58.960> from<00:06:59.080> the<00:06:59.160> Grateful<00:06:59.520> Dead.
00:07:00.360 --> 00:07:08.760
And<00:07:01.480> um<00:07:02.120> taking<00:07:02.480> all<00:07:02.680> of<00:07:02.760> those<00:07:02.960> experiences<00:07:04.480> and<00:07:04.720> kind<00:07:04.919> of<00:07:05.040> putting<00:07:05.280> them<00:07:05.480> together<00:07:06.680> uh<00:07:06.960> led<00:07:07.280> me<00:07:07.520> to<00:07:08.520> the
00:07:08.760 --> 00:07:12.440
idea<00:07:09.360> of<00:07:09.640> producing<00:07:10.200> shows<00:07:10.640> and<00:07:10.760> producing<00:07:11.280> content.
00:07:12.440 --> 00:07:20.720
And<00:07:13.320> um<00:07:14.360> that<00:07:14.600> was<00:07:15.360> ultimately,<00:07:16.160> I<00:07:16.240> decided<00:07:17.120> to<00:07:18.080> um<00:07:18.440> continue<00:07:18.880> managing,<00:07:19.440> but<00:07:19.600> also<00:07:20.320> start<00:07:20.600> to
00:07:20.720 --> 00:07:29.200
produce<00:07:21.800> these<00:07:22.040> shows,<00:07:22.400> which<00:07:22.600> really<00:07:22.919> was<00:07:23.120> a<00:07:23.200> different<00:07:23.640> business<00:07:24.080> model<00:07:25.160> uh<00:07:25.320> that<00:07:25.480> was<00:07:25.640> really<00:07:25.880> interesting<00:07:26.360> to<00:07:26.480> me,<00:07:26.800> which<00:07:27.040> was<00:07:27.200> more<00:07:27.440> along<00:07:27.720> the<00:07:27.800> lines<00:07:28.160> of<00:07:28.560> licensing
00:07:29.200 --> 00:07:36.560
intellectual<00:07:29.760> property<00:07:30.640> and<00:07:30.760> then<00:07:30.919> taking<00:07:31.320> that<00:07:31.520> intellectual<00:07:32.000> property<00:07:33.080> and<00:07:33.760> transforming<00:07:34.640> it<00:07:34.960> into<00:07:35.240> a<00:07:35.280> stage<00:07:35.640> show.
00:07:36.560 --> 00:07:40.840
And<00:07:36.960> that's<00:07:38.000> uh<00:07:38.760> you<00:07:38.880> know,<00:07:39.040> to<00:07:39.240> kind<00:07:39.440> of<00:07:39.520> get<00:07:39.680> to<00:07:39.800> the<00:07:39.919> core<00:07:40.200> of<00:07:40.320> your<00:07:40.440> question.
00:07:40.840 --> 00:07:48.800
I<00:07:41.146> don't<00:07:41.451> know<00:07:41.757> if<00:07:42.062> that<00:07:42.368> was<00:07:42.674> the<00:07:42.979> Cliff<00:07:43.285> Notes<00:07:43.590> version,<00:07:43.896> but<00:07:44.202> the<00:07:44.507> idea<00:07:44.813> for<00:07:45.118> starting<00:07:45.424> Terrapin<00:07:45.730> Station<00:07:46.035> Entertainment<00:07:46.341> what<00:07:46.646> really<00:07:46.952> came<00:07:47.258> out<00:07:47.563> of<00:07:47.869> the<00:07:48.174> idea<00:07:48.480> to

be<00:07:48.960> a<00:07:49.080> home<00:07:49.440> for<00:07:49.640> all<00:07:49.760> of<00:07:49.840> these<00:07:50.040> non-traditional<00:07:50.640> entertainment<00:07:51.160> projects<00:07:52.040> and<00:07:52.160> all<00:07:52.320> of<00:07:52.360> these<00:07:52.600> licensed<00:07:53.600> titles<00:07:54.480> that<00:07:54.600> we<00:07:54.720> were<00:07:54.840> developing<00:07:55.520> for<00:07:55.760> the<00:07:55.880> stage.
00:07:57.200 --> 00:08:06.320
And<00:07:57.280> it<00:07:57.360> kind<00:07:57.560> of<00:07:57.640> started<00:07:58.080> with<00:07:58.720> Fresh<00:07:59.040> Beat<00:07:59.320> Band<00:07:59.800> and<00:07:59.880> then<00:08:00.040> it<00:08:00.120> was<00:08:00.280> Peppa<00:08:00.600> Pig<00:08:01.040> and<00:08:01.240> Octonauts<00:08:02.040> and<00:08:02.560> then<00:08:02.720> Disney<00:08:03.120> Junior<00:08:04.080> and<00:08:04.240> now<00:08:04.440> Gabby's<00:08:04.880> Dollhouse<00:08:05.400> Live.
00:08:06.320 --> 00:08:14.800
And<00:08:06.840> so<00:08:07.560> Terrapin<00:08:08.080> started<00:08:08.680> was<00:08:08.880> born<00:08:09.120> out<00:08:09.240> of<00:08:09.280> the<00:08:09.360> pandemic<00:08:10.080> like<00:08:10.160> so<00:08:10.320> many<00:08:10.600> other<00:08:11.240> companies<00:08:12.280> and<00:08:13.000> partnered<00:08:13.600> with<00:08:14.440> Sony

of<00:08:47.760> bringing<00:08:48.080> out<00:08:48.200> together<00:08:48.640> all<00:08:48.839> of<00:08:48.920> these<00:08:49.200> mythical<00:08:50.280> magical<00:08:50.839> characters,<00:08:52.200> iconic<00:08:52.720> characters<00:08:53.400> and<00:08:53.880> having<00:08:54.200> them<00:08:54.320> be<00:08:54.440> able<00:08:54.760> to<00:08:55.000> gather<00:08:55.400> in
00:08:55.680 --> 00:09:02.800
one<00:08:55.880> place.<00:08:57.280> How<00:08:57.560> has<00:08:57.880> the<00:08:58.080> industry<00:08:58.560> changed<00:08:59.280> over<00:08:59.520> time<00:09:00.120> and<00:09:00.360> how<00:09:00.640> has<00:09:01.040> tech<00:09:01.360> changed<00:09:01.880> it?
00:09:02.800 --> 00:09:06.280
And<00:09:03.440> I<00:09:03.480> mean<00:09:03.680> this<00:09:03.839> is<00:09:03.960> a<00:09:04.000> huge<00:09:04.280> question.<00:09:04.800> How<00:09:05.000> has<00:09:05.240> AI<00:09:05.680> changed<00:09:06.120> it?
00:09:06.280 --> 00:09:15.720
Like<00:09:06.520> how<00:09:06.720> are<00:09:07.520> like<00:09:07.960> from<00:09:08.200> when<00:09:08.360> you<00:09:08.480> started<00:09:08.960> to<00:09:09.120> now<00:09:09.839> is<00:09:10.040> this<00:09:10.240> the<00:09:10.400> same<00:09:10.720> industry<00:09:11.480> or<00:09:11.960> has<00:09:12.240> it<00:09:12.360> has<00:09:12.520> it<00:09:12.760> changed<00:09:13.120> quite<00:09:13.320> a<00:09:13.360> bit?
00:09:15.720 --> 00:09:23.440
There<00:09:16.160> are<00:09:16.280> certain<00:09:16.839> foundations<00:09:17.839> and<00:09:18.040> disciplines<00:09:18.680> that<00:09:18.880> still<00:09:19.160> exist,<00:09:19.720> but<00:09:19.960> it<00:09:20.080> is<00:09:20.240> a<00:09:20.680> a<00:09:20.839> very<00:09:21.520> different<00:09:22.000> business.
00:09:23.440 --> 00:09:29.520
Um<00:09:24.720> we<00:09:25.040> used<00:09:25.320> to<00:09:25.480> look<00:09:25.920> at<00:09:26.960> uh<00:09:27.480> okay.
00:09:29.520 --> 00:09:37.440
When<00:09:29.800> I<00:09:29.920> first<00:09:30.440> came<00:09:30.680> out<00:09:30.920> to<00:09:31.680> look<00:09:31.960> at<00:09:32.080> jobs<00:09:32.480> in<00:09:32.600> Los<00:09:32.839> Angeles,<00:09:33.360> there<00:09:33.640> were<00:09:33.920> lines<00:09:34.400> around<00:09:34.720> the<00:09:34.800> corner<00:09:35.360> for<00:09:36.000> A&R<00:09:36.480> jobs.
00:09:37.440 --> 00:09:40.120
That<00:09:37.680> was<00:09:37.880> the<00:09:38.000> hottest<00:09:38.440> job<00:09:38.840> in<00:09:39.480> in<00:09:39.640> the<00:09:39.720> business.
00:09:40.120 --> 00:09:43.840
Everybody<00:09:40.480> wanted<00:09:40.720> to<00:09:40.760> be<00:09:40.880> an<00:09:41.000> A&R<00:09:41.480> person<00:09:42.000> to<00:09:42.080> go<00:09:42.240> out<00:09:42.400> and<00:09:42.520> sign<00:09:42.880> artists.
00:09:43.840 --> 00:09:49.120
Those<00:09:44.080> jobs<00:09:44.440> are<00:09:44.520> virtually<00:09:44.880> non-existent<00:09:45.760> at<00:09:45.880> this<00:09:46.080> point<00:09:46.400> because<00:09:47.400> everybody's<00:09:48.040> an<00:09:48.160> A&R<00:09:48.520> person.
00:09:49.120 --> 00:09:57.320
I<00:09:49.416> mean,<00:09:49.713> you<00:09:50.009> know,<00:09:50.305> people<00:09:50.601> that<00:09:50.898> anybody<00:09:51.194> that<00:09:51.490> has<00:09:51.787> a<00:09:52.083> smartphone<00:09:52.379> can<00:09:52.676> be<00:09:52.972> an<00:09:53.268> A&R<00:09:53.564> person<00:09:53.861> or,<00:09:54.157> you<00:09:54.453> know,<00:09:54.750> and<00:09:55.046> has<00:09:55.342> access<00:09:55.639> to<00:09:55.935> [laughter]<00:09:56.231> um<00:09:56.527> you<00:09:56.824> know,<00:09:57.120> has
00:09:57.320 --> 00:10:00.760
access<00:09:57.720> to<00:09:57.840> content,<00:09:58.320> has<00:09:58.520> access<00:09:59.040> to<00:09:59.640> YouTube.
00:10:00.760 --> 00:10:07.520
Uh<00:10:00.880> the<00:10:01.000> discovery<00:10:01.560> process<00:10:02.040> is<00:10:02.200> entirely<00:10:02.840> different<00:10:03.560> for<00:10:03.800> artists<00:10:04.800> um<00:10:05.160> and<00:10:05.400> also<00:10:05.680> the<00:10:05.800> acceleration<00:10:06.520> process.
00:10:07.520 --> 00:10:16.280
It<00:10:07.720> really<00:10:08.040> has<00:10:08.320> become<00:10:08.800> more<00:10:09.480> the<00:10:09.600> people's<00:10:10.120> game<00:10:10.640> as<00:10:10.800> opposed<00:10:11.360> to<00:10:12.400> um<00:10:12.840> you<00:10:12.920> know,<00:10:13.040> maybe<00:10:13.520> the<00:10:13.920> the<00:10:14.360> corporations<00:10:15.240> because<00:10:15.480> the<00:10:16.200> you
00:10:16.280 --> 00:10:24.440
know,<00:10:16.440> what's<00:10:16.680> driving<00:10:17.200> virally<00:10:18.200> is<00:10:18.400> ultimately<00:10:19.480> what<00:10:19.680> the<00:10:19.800> labels<00:10:20.440> and<00:10:20.640> the<00:10:20.840> other<00:10:21.760> uh<00:10:21.840> big<00:10:22.040> corporations<00:10:22.720> are<00:10:22.800> going<00:10:22.920> to<00:10:23.000> latch<00:10:23.320> onto.
00:10:24.440 --> 00:10:33.360
And<00:10:24.720> so<00:10:25.160> everybody<00:10:25.720> is<00:10:25.920> looking<00:10:26.400> to<00:10:27.360> the<00:10:28.160> DSPs<00:10:29.240> and<00:10:29.560> to<00:10:30.360> the<00:10:30.480> streaming<00:10:30.920> services<00:10:32.080> to<00:10:33.200> you
00:10:33.360 --> 00:10:43.080
know,<00:10:34.440> underst-<00:10:35.000> and<00:10:35.920> where<00:10:36.320> those<00:10:37.600> trends<00:10:38.120> are<00:10:38.440> as<00:10:38.600> opposed<00:10:39.240> to<00:10:40.280> looking<00:10:40.600> at<00:10:40.720> something<00:10:42.480> maybe
00:10:43.080 --> 00:10:51.360
through<00:10:44.640> a<00:10:44.760> much<00:10:45.200> more<00:10:46.200> tunnel-visioned<00:10:47.760> uh<00:10:47.920> approach<00:10:48.600> of<00:10:48.800> saying,<00:10:49.240> "Hey,<00:10:50.520> I<00:10:50.720> see<00:10:51.160> how
00:10:51.360 --> 00:10:59.600
this<00:10:51.680> could<00:10:52.040> be<00:10:52.200> something<00:10:52.640> huge."<00:10:53.600> A<00:10:53.680> lot<00:10:53.880> of<00:10:53.960> the<00:10:54.040> times<00:10:54.360> by<00:10:54.480> the<00:10:54.600> time<00:10:55.400> labels<00:10:55.760> get<00:10:55.920> involved<00:10:56.360> at<00:10:56.440> this<00:10:56.600> point,<00:10:56.880> there's<00:10:57.120> already<00:10:57.839> a<00:10:57.920> massive<00:10:58.600> core<00:10:58.880> fan<00:10:59.200> base<00:10:59.480> and
00:10:59.600 --> 00:11:07.800
a<00:10:59.680> massive<00:11:00.240> foundation<00:11:01.240> that's<00:11:01.480> already<00:11:01.800> been<00:11:02.040> built<00:11:02.360> around<00:11:02.839> that<00:11:03.640> brand,<00:11:04.120> that<00:11:04.440> artist,<00:11:05.000> that<00:11:05.400> band,<00:11:05.800> that<00:11:06.120> IP,<00:11:06.560> whatever<00:11:07.000> it<00:11:07.120> is.
00:11:07.800 --> 00:11:10.400
And<00:11:08.040> so<00:11:08.200> yeah,<00:11:08.480> it's<00:11:08.760> it's<00:11:09.000> massively<00:11:09.600> different.
00:11:10.400 --> 00:11:20.120
Information<00:11:11.240> moves<00:11:11.560> a<00:11:11.600> lot<00:11:11.920> faster<00:11:13.120> and<00:11:14.320> um<00:11:16.240> and<00:11:16.400> I<00:11:16.480> do<00:11:16.720> think<00:11:17.000> that<00:11:17.120> people<00:11:17.480> were<00:11:17.680> able<00:11:18.040> to<00:11:19.560> have
00:11:20.120 --> 00:11:28.600
visibility<00:11:20.839> into<00:11:21.040> what's<00:11:21.240> authentic<00:11:22.120> because<00:11:22.839> of<00:11:23.839> uh<00:11:24.160> you<00:11:24.200> know,<00:11:24.320> because<00:11:24.760> of<00:11:24.880> that<00:11:25.480> as<00:11:25.680> opposed<00:11:26.280> to<00:11:27.120> something<00:11:27.600> that<00:11:27.880> might<00:11:28.240> be
00:11:28.600 --> 00:11:35.160
superficial<00:11:29.520> that<00:11:30.800> a<00:11:30.880> label<00:11:31.360> or<00:11:31.520> an<00:11:31.680> artist<00:11:32.120> might<00:11:32.360> try<00:11:32.680> just<00:11:33.000> try<00:11:33.200> to<00:11:33.320> put<00:11:33.480> in<00:11:33.600> front<00:11:33.800> of<00:11:33.880> their<00:11:34.040> fans.
00:11:35.160 --> 00:11:43.640
I<00:11:35.280> think<00:11:35.520> there's<00:11:35.720> a<00:11:35.800> lot<00:11:36.280> more<00:11:37.440> groundedness<00:11:39.480> in<00:11:40.360> what<00:11:40.680> we're<00:11:40.880> able<00:11:41.160> to<00:11:41.320> do<00:11:42.400> now<00:11:43.280> as
00:11:43.640 --> 00:11:48.640
you<00:11:43.760> know,<00:11:43.920> in<00:11:44.040> terms<00:11:44.600> of<00:11:46.080> authenticity.
00:11:48.640 --> 00:11:53.680
I<00:11:48.720> have<00:11:48.920> to<00:11:49.000> ask<00:11:49.240> you<00:11:49.320> before<00:11:50.200> what<00:11:50.360> was<00:11:50.560> Dylan<00:11:50.960> like<00:11:51.240> live<00:11:51.840> at<00:11:52.000> the<00:11:52.080> House<00:11:52.320> of<00:11:52.440> Blues<00:11:52.800> in<00:11:52.920> New<00:11:53.040> Orleans?
00:11:53.680 --> 00:12:02.200
I<00:11:53.760> mean,<00:11:53.920> what<00:11:54.040> was<00:11:54.200> that<00:11:54.400> like?<00:11:55.480> Okay,<00:11:56.720> two<00:11:56.960> nights<00:11:58.160> 1994<00:12:00.240> he<00:12:01.000> had<00:12:01.200> a<00:12:01.280> great<00:12:01.800> band
00:12:02.200 --> 00:12:10.560
at<00:12:02.360> that<00:12:02.680> time<00:12:03.560> and<00:12:04.840> you<00:12:05.000> know<00:12:05.720> I<00:12:05.920> can<00:12:06.080> talk<00:12:06.320> about<00:12:06.560> we<00:12:06.640> could<00:12:06.760> do<00:12:06.880> a<00:12:06.920> whole<00:12:07.120> podcast<00:12:07.680> just<00:12:07.880> about<00:12:08.160> Dylan,<00:12:08.520> but<00:12:08.960> I<00:12:09.080> grew<00:12:09.320> up<00:12:09.480> in<00:12:09.600> a<00:12:09.680> house<00:12:10.120> that<00:12:10.320> had
00:12:10.560 --> 00:12:14.800
a<00:12:10.680> room<00:12:11.800> that<00:12:12.080> was<00:12:13.040> entirely<00:12:13.560> dedicated<00:12:14.160> to<00:12:14.200> Bob<00:12:14.480> Dylan.
00:12:14.800 --> 00:12:24.320
So<00:12:15.440> he<00:12:15.680> was<00:12:15.880> a<00:12:15.960> big<00:12:16.280> part<00:12:16.800> of<00:12:17.000> my<00:12:18.280> inspiration<00:12:19.120> into<00:12:19.360> music<00:12:20.000> and<00:12:20.320> and<00:12:21.160> you<00:12:21.280> know,<00:12:21.480> I<00:12:21.600> knew<00:12:21.880> songs<00:12:22.440> like<00:12:23.200> um
00:12:24.320 --> 00:12:33.440
you<00:12:24.520> know<00:12:25.760> Visions<00:12:26.200> of<00:12:26.320> Johanna<00:12:27.480> when<00:12:27.720> I<00:12:27.840> was<00:12:28.920> you<00:12:29.040> know,<00:12:29.400> 10<00:12:29.680> years<00:12:30.040> old<00:12:30.680> and<00:12:30.840> I<00:12:30.920> think<00:12:31.160> by<00:12:31.320> the<00:12:31.440> time<00:12:31.760> I<00:12:31.840> was<00:12:32.840> 18
00:12:33.440 --> 00:12:36.360
I<00:12:33.480> had<00:12:33.600> already<00:12:33.840> seen<00:12:34.080> Dylan<00:12:34.400> probably<00:12:34.839> 20<00:12:35.200> times.
00:12:36.360 --> 00:12:44.839
And<00:12:36.720> so<00:12:38.040> when<00:12:38.240> Dylan<00:12:38.600> came<00:12:38.880> to<00:12:38.960> the<00:12:39.040> House<00:12:39.320> of<00:12:39.400> Blues<00:12:40.080> in<00:12:40.320> 94<00:12:41.760> he<00:12:42.600> was<00:12:42.839> in<00:12:43.040> a<00:12:43.120> big<00:12:44.080> renaissance<00:12:44.800> a
00:12:44.839 --> 00:12:54.280
big<00:12:45.080> resurgence<00:12:45.880> at<00:12:46.000> that<00:12:46.280> time<00:12:47.400> right<00:12:47.640> around<00:12:48.839> um<00:12:50.080> 1992<00:12:52.000> he<00:12:52.160> really<00:12:52.560> started<00:12:53.240> to
00:12:54.280 --> 00:12:58.839
reinvigorate<00:12:55.280> his<00:12:55.440> live<00:12:55.720> performance.<00:12:56.920> He<00:12:57.120> was<00:12:57.280> a<00:12:57.320> lot<00:12:57.600> more<00:12:57.800> engaged.
00:12:58.839 --> 00:13:01.880
The<00:12:58.960> set<00:12:59.280> lists<00:12:59.760> were<00:13:00.560> on<00:13:00.800> fire.
00:13:01.880 --> 00:13:10.360
He<00:13:02.040> was<00:13:02.240> playing<00:13:02.720> all<00:13:03.080> of<00:13:03.240> like<00:13:03.560> the<00:13:04.320> you<00:13:04.400> know<00:13:05.760> seminal<00:13:06.280> material<00:13:07.560> and<00:13:08.839> he<00:13:09.160> was<00:13:09.560> touring<00:13:10.200> at
00:13:10.360 --> 00:13:13.640
a<00:13:10.440> rate<00:13:10.880> where<00:13:11.200> they<00:13:11.400> were<00:13:11.520> just<00:13:11.800> really<00:13:12.120> well-oiled<00:13:12.760> machine.
00:13:13.640 --> 00:13:17.839
And<00:13:13.875> Dylan<00:13:14.110> has<00:13:14.345> had<00:13:14.580> many<00:13:14.815> ebbs<00:13:15.050> and<00:13:15.285> flows<00:13:15.520> throughout<00:13:15.755> his<00:13:15.990> career<00:13:16.225> and<00:13:16.460> he's<00:13:16.695> always<00:13:16.930> [laughter]<00:13:17.165> For<00:13:17.400> sure.
00:13:17.839 --> 00:13:25.839
given<00:13:18.240> things<00:13:18.560> different<00:13:18.920> perspectives<00:13:19.800> and<00:13:19.960> had<00:13:20.160> had<00:13:20.400> and<00:13:20.680> and<00:13:20.800> that's<00:13:21.080> why<00:13:21.800> he's<00:13:22.240> one<00:13:22.400> of<00:13:22.480> the<00:13:22.560> best<00:13:22.880> live<00:13:23.160> performers<00:13:23.800> is<00:13:23.960> because<00:13:24.320> his<00:13:24.520> interpretations<00:13:25.400> of<00:13:25.520> things
00:13:25.839 --> 00:13:30.280
are<00:13:25.960> always<00:13:26.280> different<00:13:27.240> and<00:13:27.839> nobody<00:13:28.240> wants<00:13:28.480> to<00:13:28.600> see<00:13:28.760> the<00:13:28.840> same<00:13:29.160> thing<00:13:29.400> twice<00:13:29.800> anyway.
00:13:30.280 --> 00:13:36.360
So,<00:13:31.480> um,<00:13:31.560> I<00:13:31.680> always<00:13:31.920> appreciated<00:13:32.560> that,<00:13:32.760> but<00:13:32.960> at<00:13:33.120> that<00:13:33.440> time<00:13:34.680> Dylan<00:13:35.040> was<00:13:35.200> in<00:13:35.320> great<00:13:35.680> form.
00:13:36.360 --> 00:13:44.960
You,<00:13:36.720> you<00:13:36.840> know,<00:13:37.000> he<00:13:37.200> was<00:13:37.400> just<00:13:37.840> he<00:13:38.000> was<00:13:38.160> still<00:13:38.960> playing<00:13:39.320> the<00:13:39.400> guitar<00:13:39.960> through<00:13:40.200> the<00:13:40.320> full<00:13:40.600> set,<00:13:41.600> uh,<00:13:41.800> because<00:13:42.200> he<00:13:42.480> had<00:13:42.680> didn't<00:13:42.960> have<00:13:43.360> the<00:13:44.000> um<00:13:44.600> carpal
00:13:44.960 --> 00:13:48.640
tunnel<00:13:45.560> yet<00:13:45.920> that,<00:13:46.160> you<00:13:46.280> know,<00:13:46.400> forced<00:13:46.760> him<00:13:46.880> to<00:13:47.000> play<00:13:47.240> keyboards<00:13:47.760> all<00:13:47.840> the<00:13:47.960> time.
00:13:48.640 --> 00:13:57.280
And<00:13:48.880> so,<00:13:49.800> um,<00:13:51.000> yeah,<00:13:51.680> I<00:13:51.800> remember,<00:13:53.320> um,<00:13:54.240> you<00:13:54.360> know,<00:13:55.520> great<00:13:55.880> setlist,<00:13:56.920> great
00:13:57.280 --> 00:14:04.304
energy,<00:13:58.520> and,<00:13:59.640> um,<00:14:00.440> and<00:14:00.600> I<00:14:00.640> remember<00:14:00.960> a<00:14:01.000> lot<00:14:01.200> of<00:14:01.280> people<00:14:01.560> outside<00:14:02.000> waiting<00:14:02.280> for<00:14:02.440> tickets,<00:14:02.920> wanting<00:14:03.200> tickets.
00:14:04.304 --> 00:14:07.960
[laughter]<00:14:05.280> It's<00:14:05.400> incredible.<00:14:06.360> Oh<00:14:06.480> my<00:14:06.720> word,<00:14:07.160> that's<00:14:07.440> so<00:14:07.680> cool.
00:14:07.960 --> 00:14:10.400
Both<00:14:08.200> nights,<00:14:08.480> by<00:14:08.640> the<00:14:08.760> way.<00:14:09.120> Yeah,<00:14:09.240> I<00:14:09.280> went<00:14:09.440> both<00:14:09.720> nights.

So,<00:15:32.160> um,<00:15:32.240> the<00:15:32.400> ecosystems<00:15:33.160> that<00:15:33.320> surround<00:15:33.760> these<00:15:34.000> artists,<00:15:34.440> these<00:15:34.640> projects,<00:15:35.280> these<00:15:36.320> productions<00:15:37.200> are,<00:15:38.200> um,<00:15:38.600> I<00:15:38.720> look<00:15:38.960> at
00:15:39.120 --> 00:15:47.960
them<00:15:39.520> as<00:15:40.520> just<00:15:40.840> as<00:15:40.960> important<00:15:41.600> as<00:15:41.880> the<00:15:42.080> people<00:15:42.440> that<00:15:42.600> are<00:15:42.880> that<00:15:43.040> are<00:15:43.160> on<00:15:43.320> stage,<00:15:44.560> um,<00:15:44.640> and<00:15:44.880> the<00:15:45.120> months<00:15:45.600> and<00:15:45.800> years<00:15:46.080> of<00:15:46.240> work<00:15:46.440> that<00:15:46.560> go<00:15:46.800> into<00:15:47.520> creating
00:15:47.960 --> 00:15:56.520
these<00:15:48.120> things.<00:15:48.440> So,<00:15:49.040> I<00:15:49.120> kind<00:15:49.320> of<00:15:49.400> approach<00:15:49.720> leadership<00:15:50.200> from<00:15:50.400> that<00:15:50.640> standpoint<00:15:51.280> of<00:15:51.400> just,<00:15:52.320> you<00:15:52.440> know,<00:15:52.800> first<00:15:53.160> things<00:15:53.480> first,<00:15:53.960> like<00:15:54.600> take<00:15:54.840> a<00:15:54.920> 101<00:15:55.560> course,<00:15:56.040> like
00:15:56.520 --> 00:16:03.240
understand<00:15:57.680> who<00:15:57.920> the<00:15:58.080> agents<00:15:58.520> are,<00:15:58.720> who<00:15:58.840> the<00:15:58.960> managers<00:15:59.440> are,<00:15:59.600> who<00:15:59.720> the<00:15:59.800> publicists<00:16:00.320> are,<00:16:00.880> who<00:16:01.120> the,<00:16:01.520> you<00:16:01.680> know,<00:16:01.840> tour<00:16:02.120> managers<00:16:02.680> are.
00:16:03.240 --> 00:16:12.720
And<00:16:04.520> you<00:16:04.560> know,<00:16:05.120> get<00:16:05.960> a<00:16:06.000> real<00:16:06.360> understanding<00:16:07.280> of<00:16:08.000> how<00:16:08.240> those<00:16:08.520> pieces<00:16:08.960> fit<00:16:09.160> together<00:16:09.600> because<00:16:09.840> it's<00:16:10.040> ultimately<00:16:10.600> a<00:16:10.640> relatively<00:16:11.120> small<00:16:11.560> industry,
00:16:12.720 --> 00:16:21.920
uh,<00:16:13.320> you<00:16:13.480> know,<00:16:13.600> when<00:16:13.840> when<00:16:14.000> it<00:16:14.080> comes<00:16:14.320> down<00:16:14.680> to<00:16:15.480> the,<00:16:16.520> um,<00:16:17.360> most<00:16:17.680> successful<00:16:18.320> parts<00:16:18.920> of<00:16:19.360> of,<00:16:19.920> uh,<00:16:21.360> live
00:16:21.920 --> 00:16:26.760
experience<00:16:22.520> and<00:16:22.640> live<00:16:22.920> entertainment.<00:16:23.480> There's<00:16:24.000> very<00:16:24.280> few<00:16:24.480> people<00:16:24.800> that<00:16:24.920> are<00:16:25.000> driving<00:16:25.440> that<00:16:25.680> narrative.
00:16:26.760 --> 00:16:35.520
Uh,<00:16:26.839> very<00:16:27.120> few<00:16:27.280> companies.<00:16:28.560> Uh,<00:16:28.920> and<00:16:29.080> I<00:16:29.160> think<00:16:29.520> that<00:16:29.920> it<00:16:30.160> also,<00:16:31.000> um,<00:16:31.360> you<00:16:31.440> know,<00:16:31.560> the<00:16:31.680> approach<00:16:32.120> to<00:16:32.480> to<00:16:32.680> leadership<00:16:33.200> comes<00:16:33.520> from<00:16:35.240> getting
00:16:35.520 --> 00:16:43.680
up<00:16:35.760> every<00:16:36.040> morning<00:16:36.480> and<00:16:36.640> just<00:16:36.839> wanting<00:16:37.120> to<00:16:37.200> do<00:16:37.360> a<00:16:37.440> little<00:16:37.640> bit<00:16:37.839> better<00:16:38.200> and<00:16:38.400> want<00:16:38.600> to<00:16:38.800> put<00:16:39.040> a<00:16:39.080> little<00:16:39.320> bit<00:16:39.440> of<00:16:39.520> positive<00:16:40.040> out<00:16:40.160> into<00:16:40.360> the<00:16:40.480> world<00:16:41.120> and,<00:16:42.360> um,<00:16:43.000> you<00:16:43.040> know,<00:16:43.520> and
00:16:43.680 --> 00:16:52.560
wanting<00:16:43.920> to<00:16:44.040> keep<00:16:44.240> building<00:16:44.880> and<00:16:45.200> and<00:16:46.120> the<00:16:46.360> drive<00:16:47.720> to<00:16:47.800> consistently<00:16:49.600> push<00:16:49.960> yourself<00:16:50.480> harder<00:16:51.600> and<00:16:52.480> I
00:16:52.560 --> 00:17:01.560
don't<00:16:52.839> know<00:16:53.080> exactly<00:16:53.600> the<00:16:53.720> place<00:16:54.040> that<00:16:54.160> I'm<00:16:54.280> going<00:16:54.640> to<00:16:55.120> or<00:16:55.360> even<00:16:55.560> when<00:16:55.720> I<00:16:55.800> get<00:16:56.040> there<00:16:56.240> if<00:16:56.400> I<00:16:56.520> will<00:16:56.720> know<00:16:56.920> it,<00:16:57.560> but<00:16:57.760> I<00:16:57.880> know<00:16:58.160> that<00:16:58.360> I'm<00:16:58.520> pushing<00:16:59.839> to<00:16:59.960> go<00:17:00.080> to<00:17:00.240> a<00:17:00.280> higher<00:17:00.600> place.
00:17:01.560 --> 00:17:06.400
Mhm.<00:17:02.720> And<00:17:02.960> how<00:17:03.040> do<00:17:03.120> you<00:17:03.200> think<00:17:03.839> How<00:17:03.960> are<00:17:04.040> you<00:17:04.160> thinking<00:17:04.400> about<00:17:04.680> How<00:17:04.839> is<00:17:04.959> the<00:17:05.079> industry<00:17:05.480> thinking<00:17:05.800> about<00:17:06.079> AI?
00:17:06.400 --> 00:17:12.240
How<00:17:06.600> are<00:17:06.680> you<00:17:06.880> thinking<00:17:07.199> about<00:17:07.480> it?<00:17:07.600> Do<00:17:07.680> you<00:17:07.839> Do<00:17:07.920> you<00:17:08.000> think<00:17:08.199> this<00:17:08.360> is<00:17:08.480> going<00:17:08.600> to<00:17:09.720> What<00:17:09.800> do<00:17:09.880> you<00:17:09.920> think<00:17:10.120> this<00:17:10.280> is<00:17:10.400> going<00:17:10.520> to<00:17:10.600> do?
00:17:12.240 --> 00:17:17.439
Well,<00:17:12.959> AI<00:17:13.319> is<00:17:13.520> going<00:17:13.640> to<00:17:13.760> impact<00:17:15.120> a<00:17:15.160> lot<00:17:15.520> of,<00:17:16.199> uh,<00:17:16.720> industries.
00:17:17.439 --> 00:17:21.000
It's<00:17:17.720> certainly<00:17:18.079> going<00:17:18.199> to<00:17:18.319> impact<00:17:18.959> the<00:17:19.079> content<00:17:19.720> industry.
00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:30.600
Um,<00:17:22.319> what<00:17:22.640> I<00:17:22.760> think<00:17:23.280> is<00:17:23.640> that<00:17:24.800> just<00:17:25.560> the<00:17:25.680> same<00:17:26.199> as<00:17:27.240> we<00:17:27.480> have<00:17:27.640> had<00:17:28.079> to<00:17:28.680> adopt,<00:17:30.160> uh,
00:17:30.600 --> 00:17:39.960
as<00:17:30.840> humans<00:17:31.520> to<00:17:32.840> other<00:17:33.200> types<00:17:33.520> of<00:17:33.640> technologies<00:17:34.640> as<00:17:34.920> they<00:17:35.120> have<00:17:35.960> come<00:17:36.240> into,<00:17:37.440> um,<00:17:38.120> existence,<00:17:39.480> we're
00:17:39.960 --> 00:17:44.480
also<00:17:40.360> going<00:17:40.640> to<00:17:40.720> have<00:17:41.040> to<00:17:41.480> adjust<00:17:42.120> and,<00:17:42.720> you<00:17:42.840> know,<00:17:43.000> to<00:17:43.440> to<00:17:43.680> AI.
00:17:44.480 --> 00:17:53.800
And<00:17:45.160> I<00:17:45.280> think<00:17:45.600> that<00:17:45.800> the<00:17:46.320> trick<00:17:46.720> is<00:17:47.520> figuring<00:17:47.960> out<00:17:48.240> how<00:17:48.600> to<00:17:49.520> empower<00:17:50.280> what<00:17:50.520> you<00:17:50.640> do,<00:17:51.120> make<00:17:51.400> yourself<00:17:52.080> smarter,<00:17:53.160> Mhm.
00:17:53.800 --> 00:18:02.800
by<00:17:54.160> utilizing<00:17:54.840> those<00:17:55.200> tools<00:17:56.200> and<00:17:57.200> utilize<00:17:57.840> them<00:17:58.000> in<00:17:58.120> a<00:17:58.200> way<00:17:59.040> where<00:17:59.240> you<00:17:59.400> can<00:17:59.680> still<00:18:00.640> create<00:18:01.160> tangible<00:18:01.720> ideas<00:18:02.640> that
00:18:02.800 --> 00:18:11.240
can<00:18:02.960> come<00:18:03.240> into<00:18:03.440> the<00:18:03.560> real<00:18:03.800> world.<00:18:04.800> And<00:18:05.720> ultimately,<00:18:06.200> if<00:18:06.320> we're<00:18:06.440> just<00:18:06.720> sitting<00:18:07.000> around<00:18:07.440> listening<00:18:07.840> to<00:18:08.000> AI<00:18:08.400> all<00:18:08.600> day<00:18:09.440> and,<00:18:10.720> you<00:18:10.840> know,
00:18:11.240 --> 00:18:17.160
taking<00:18:11.680> directive<00:18:12.240> from<00:18:12.440> AI,<00:18:13.400> there's<00:18:13.600> going<00:18:13.720> to<00:18:13.800> be<00:18:13.840> very<00:18:14.040> little<00:18:14.320> creativity<00:18:15.640> in<00:18:16.160> in<00:18:16.320> the<00:18:16.400> world.
00:18:17.160 --> 00:18:25.560
So,<00:18:17.400> I<00:18:17.480> think,<00:18:18.160> you<00:18:18.240> know,<00:18:18.800> as<00:18:19.120> a<00:18:19.640> human<00:18:20.000> race,<00:18:20.360> like<00:18:20.520> forget<00:18:20.800> the<00:18:20.880> entertainment<00:18:21.360> industry,<00:18:22.000> I<00:18:22.120> think<00:18:22.360> we<00:18:22.480> just<00:18:22.760> need<00:18:23.160> to,<00:18:24.440> uh,<00:18:24.520> use<00:18:24.760> it<00:18:24.880> as<00:18:25.000> a<00:18:25.080> tool<00:18:25.440> of
00:18:25.560 --> 00:18:34.720
empowerment.<00:18:26.800> And<00:18:27.760> you<00:18:27.880> know,<00:18:28.160> and<00:18:28.440> and<00:18:28.600> utilize<00:18:29.120> our<00:18:29.360> own<00:18:30.520> if<00:18:30.720> you<00:18:30.840> think<00:18:31.080> about<00:18:31.920> what's<00:18:32.280> been<00:18:32.480> created,<00:18:33.960> um,
00:18:34.720 --> 00:18:37.040
I'll<00:18:35.000> I'll<00:18:35.160> use<00:18:35.560> I'll<00:18:35.680> use<00:18:35.920> music<00:18:36.320> as<00:18:36.480> an<00:18:36.560> example.
00:18:37.040 --> 00:18:41.600
I<00:18:37.120> mean,<00:18:37.280> you<00:18:37.400> could<00:18:37.560> use<00:18:37.720> this<00:18:37.880> in<00:18:38.080> any<00:18:38.320> vertical<00:18:38.760> of<00:18:39.000> of<00:18:39.160> society,<00:18:39.680> but<00:18:39.840> I'll<00:18:39.920> use<00:18:40.080> music<00:18:40.400> as<00:18:40.560> an<00:18:40.640> example.
00:18:41.600 --> 00:18:46.640
Think<00:18:41.800> about<00:18:42.120> how<00:18:42.320> we've<00:18:42.520> come<00:18:42.840> from<00:18:43.520> vinyl<00:18:43.920> to<00:18:44.040> cassette<00:18:44.520> to<00:18:44.600> CD<00:18:45.080> to<00:18:45.240> digital,<00:18:46.240> right?
00:18:46.640 --> 00:18:54.760
And<00:18:46.840> that<00:18:46.960> if<00:18:47.120> you<00:18:47.280> would<00:18:47.520> have<00:18:47.720> said<00:18:48.120> to<00:18:48.280> somebody<00:18:49.240> even<00:18:49.560> in<00:18:49.640> the<00:18:49.720> '70s,<00:18:50.400> 40<00:18:50.640> years<00:18:50.880> ago,<00:18:51.600> "Hey,<00:18:51.840> instead<00:18:52.280> of<00:18:52.360> buying<00:18:52.760> that<00:18:53.360> record,<00:18:54.400> you're<00:18:54.640> going
00:18:54.760 --> 00:19:02.040
to<00:18:54.800> be<00:18:54.920> listening<00:18:55.280> to<00:18:55.440> it<00:18:55.560> on<00:18:55.680> a<00:18:55.760> phone."<00:18:56.720> I<00:18:56.800> mean,<00:18:57.040> I<00:18:57.080> think<00:18:57.360> there's<00:18:57.680> a<00:18:57.800> just<00:18:58.120> a<00:18:58.200> tremendous<00:18:59.200> curve<00:18:59.680> of<00:19:00.000> of<00:19:00.160> adaptation<00:19:00.920> right<00:19:01.160> there.
00:19:02.040 --> 00:19:10.960
And<00:19:02.360> so,<00:19:03.160> I<00:19:03.320> do<00:19:03.600> think<00:19:03.920> there<00:19:04.080> has<00:19:04.400> been<00:19:04.520> these<00:19:04.760> scary<00:19:05.240> moments<00:19:05.960> in<00:19:06.280> the<00:19:06.400> development<00:19:07.040> of<00:19:07.160> content,<00:19:08.040> be<00:19:08.240> that,<00:19:08.640> you<00:19:08.760> know,<00:19:08.880> pirating<00:19:09.600> of,<00:19:09.920> you<00:19:10.000> you<00:19:10.480> through
00:19:10.960 --> 00:19:20.680
Napster<00:19:11.720> or<00:19:11.920> when<00:19:12.040> we<00:19:12.160> went<00:19:12.360> through<00:19:12.520> that<00:19:12.720> whole<00:19:12.920> period<00:19:13.320> with<00:19:13.400> the<00:19:13.880> the<00:19:14.000> pre<00:19:14.840> the<00:19:14.960> wild<00:19:15.360> west<00:19:16.600> of<00:19:16.680> digital<00:19:17.000> music<00:19:17.360> before<00:19:17.760> it<00:19:17.880> was,<00:19:18.720> you<00:19:18.800> know,<00:19:19.960> you
00:19:20.680 --> 00:19:24.800
know,<00:19:20.800> before<00:19:21.080> it<00:19:21.200> was<00:19:22.040> kind<00:19:23.000> of<00:19:23.080> put<00:19:23.240> into<00:19:23.400> DSPs.
00:19:24.800 --> 00:19:29.440
You<00:19:25.120> know,<00:19:25.280> so<00:19:26.040> look,<00:19:27.000> I<00:19:27.080> think<00:19:27.440> that<00:19:28.320> we<00:19:28.440> can't<00:19:28.680> be<00:19:28.800> scared.
00:19:29.440 --> 00:19:38.320
We<00:19:29.560> have<00:19:29.840> to<00:19:30.240> we<00:19:30.360> have<00:19:30.600> to<00:19:31.120> continue<00:19:31.680> to<00:19:31.880> invent<00:19:32.600> and<00:19:32.720> we<00:19:32.840> have<00:19:32.960> to<00:19:33.080> continue<00:19:33.760> to<00:19:34.560> be<00:19:34.680> creative<00:19:35.920> and,<00:19:37.080> um,<00:19:38.200> and
00:19:38.320 --> 00:19:44.520
think<00:19:38.560> outside<00:19:38.960> the<00:19:39.040> box.<00:19:40.000> Cuz<00:19:40.080> that's<00:19:40.280> the<00:19:40.360> one<00:19:40.560> thing<00:19:40.720> that<00:19:40.840> AI<00:19:41.240> I<00:19:41.280> don't<00:19:41.480> think<00:19:41.720> can<00:19:42.000> do<00:19:42.680> is<00:19:42.840> think<00:19:43.080> outside<00:19:43.440> the<00:19:43.520> box.
00:19:44.520 --> 00:19:51.920
Yeah.<00:19:44.960> Yeah,<00:19:45.360> that's<00:19:45.560> a<00:19:45.600> good<00:19:45.760> point.<00:19:47.520> Give<00:19:47.880> me<00:19:48.000> a<00:19:48.040> sense<00:19:48.280> for<00:19:48.400> what<00:19:48.560> a<00:19:48.600> typical<00:19:49.040> day<00:19:49.240> looks<00:19:49.480> like<00:19:49.680> for<00:19:49.840> you.
00:19:51.920 --> 00:19:57.120
Well,<00:19:53.600> typical<00:19:54.040> day<00:19:54.520> is<00:19:55.040> morning<00:19:55.440> is<00:19:55.560> international<00:19:56.200> focused.
00:19:57.120 --> 00:20:04.720
So<00:19:57.560> I'll,<00:19:57.920> you<00:19:58.040> know,<00:19:58.240> morning<00:19:58.680> is<00:19:58.840> basically<00:19:59.320> UK<00:20:00.240> and<00:20:01.560> doing<00:20:02.040> any<00:20:02.280> business<00:20:02.640> that<00:20:02.800> we<00:20:02.880> need<00:20:03.120> to<00:20:03.200> do<00:20:03.520> international.
00:20:04.720 --> 00:20:14.440
Then<00:20:04.960> usually<00:20:05.720> get<00:20:05.960> to<00:20:06.040> the<00:20:06.200> office,<00:20:08.200> you<00:20:08.280> know,<00:20:08.440> mid-morning<00:20:09.720> and<00:20:10.840> well,<00:20:11.360> sometimes<00:20:12.040> staff<00:20:12.480> meeting<00:20:14.120> and
00:20:14.440 --> 00:20:19.760
sometimes,<00:20:15.920> you<00:20:16.040> know,<00:20:16.200> kind<00:20:16.440> of<00:20:16.520> top<00:20:16.800> of<00:20:16.960> week<00:20:17.200> we'd<00:20:17.440> we'd<00:20:17.680> kind<00:20:17.880> of<00:20:17.920> do<00:20:18.040> our<00:20:18.160> staff<00:20:18.520> meetings<00:20:18.880> etc.
00:20:19.760 --> 00:20:22.840
As<00:20:19.920> you<00:20:20.000> kind<00:20:20.200> of<00:20:20.280> go<00:20:20.480> through,<00:20:21.600> you<00:20:21.640> know,<00:20:21.800> midweek<00:20:22.320> etc.
00:20:22.840 --> 00:20:31.120
It's<00:20:23.040> more<00:20:23.280> like<00:20:23.480> activation<00:20:25.360> and<00:20:25.680> engagement<00:20:26.560> driven<00:20:27.080> meaning<00:20:27.480> like<00:20:27.760> we're<00:20:27.880> just<00:20:28.280> actually<00:20:29.320> actioning<00:20:30.280> on<00:20:30.600> what<00:20:30.800> we<00:20:30.920> need
00:20:31.120 --> 00:20:33.880
to<00:20:31.160> be<00:20:31.280> doing<00:20:32.040> for<00:20:32.200> all<00:20:32.320> of<00:20:32.440> our<00:20:32.560> tours<00:20:33.040> and<00:20:33.240> all<00:20:33.400> of<00:20:33.480> our<00:20:33.600> shows.
00:20:33.880 --> 00:20:37.400
We<00:20:33.960> have<00:20:34.040> about<00:20:34.640> 225<00:20:35.800> shows<00:20:36.160> this<00:20:36.480> year.
00:20:37.400 --> 00:20:46.240
Um,<00:20:38.400> so<00:20:40.120> as<00:20:40.400> far<00:20:40.880> as<00:20:42.440> we<00:20:42.560> do<00:20:42.680> a<00:20:42.720> lot<00:20:43.000> of<00:20:43.800> both<00:20:44.120> in<00:20:44.280> office<00:20:44.640> meetings<00:20:45.160> and<00:20:45.360> also<00:20:46.080> out
00:20:46.240 --> 00:20:51.360
of<00:20:46.320> office<00:20:46.600> meetings<00:20:46.880> networking<00:20:47.920> is<00:20:48.120> key<00:20:48.360> to<00:20:48.480> everything<00:20:48.880> we<00:20:49.000> do<00:20:49.320> in<00:20:49.520> this<00:20:49.800> business.
00:20:51.360 --> 00:20:57.840
And<00:20:51.640> then<00:20:51.920> if<00:20:52.200> you,<00:20:52.480> you<00:20:52.760> know,<00:20:53.040> if<00:20:53.320> we<00:20:53.600> have<00:20:53.880> an<00:20:54.160> event<00:20:54.440> to<00:20:54.720> go<00:20:55.000> to<00:20:55.280> or<00:20:55.560> a<00:20:55.840> rehearsal<00:20:56.120> to<00:20:56.400> go<00:20:56.680> to<00:20:56.960> or<00:20:57.240> a<00:20:57.520> tech.
00:20:57.840 --> 00:21:06.360
I<00:20:57.880> mean,<00:20:58.400> I<00:20:58.520> just<00:20:58.760> spent<00:20:59.200> three<00:20:59.520> weeks<00:20:59.880> in<00:21:00.040> a<00:21:00.440> rehearsal<00:21:01.400> for<00:21:01.560> one<00:21:01.760> of<00:21:01.840> our<00:21:02.000> tours<00:21:02.480> and<00:21:02.960> now<00:21:03.120> this<00:21:03.360> week<00:21:03.560> we're<00:21:03.640> kind<00:21:03.840> of<00:21:03.920> back<00:21:04.160> in<00:21:04.240> the<00:21:04.400> office,<00:21:05.360> uh,<00:21:06.120> getting
00:21:06.360 --> 00:21:11.080
situated<00:21:07.120> and,<00:21:08.080> um,<00:21:08.680> you<00:21:08.800> know,<00:21:08.960> attend<00:21:09.360> a<00:21:09.400> handful<00:21:09.840> of<00:21:09.920> conferences.
00:21:11.080 --> 00:21:18.800
I<00:21:11.160> do<00:21:11.360> a<00:21:11.400> lot<00:21:11.560> of<00:21:11.640> public<00:21:11.960> speaking,<00:21:13.480> um,<00:21:13.600> at<00:21:14.000> at<00:21:14.280> colleges<00:21:15.040> and<00:21:15.160> universities<00:21:15.960> at<00:21:16.360> various<00:21:16.720> music<00:21:17.000> business<00:21:17.360> programs.
00:21:18.800 --> 00:21:21.240
Um,<00:21:18.960> have<00:21:19.120> a<00:21:19.200> podcast<00:21:20.280> as<00:21:20.560> well.
00:21:21.240 --> 00:21:26.840
So,<00:21:21.560> fully,<00:21:22.480> uh,<00:21:22.840> support<00:21:23.320> and<00:21:23.440> respect<00:21:23.920> what<00:21:24.040> you're<00:21:24.200> doing,<00:21:24.680> you<00:21:24.760> know,<00:21:24.880> and<00:21:25.000> that's<00:21:25.080> Yeah,<00:21:25.120> tell<00:21:25.280> us<00:21:25.400> about<00:21:25.840> promote<00:21:26.160> your<00:21:26.280> podcast.
00:21:26.840 --> 00:21:31.720
Let's<00:21:27.040> let's<00:21:27.200> get<00:21:27.360> people<00:21:27.640> listen<00:21:27.920> to<00:21:28.040> it.<00:21:28.440> We're<00:21:28.920> about<00:21:29.200> to<00:21:29.280> go<00:21:29.440> into<00:21:29.600> season<00:21:30.040> 4<00:21:30.600> of<00:21:31.080> The<00:21:31.200> Jam.
00:21:31.720 --> 00:21:40.560
