Identifiers Such as your name, email address, IP address, and account credentials. We collect this to create and manage your account, deliver newsletters, and operate the site.
Payment information Such as your credit or debit card number and billing details. We collect this to process subscription payments and civic bounty contributions. Payment data is handled directly by our third-party payment processor and is not stored on our servers.
Commercial information Such as your subscription tier, purchase history, billing records, and civic bounty contribution history. We collect this to manage your subscription, administer civic bounties, and provide customer support.
Event registration information Such as your name, contact details, and any dietary or accessibility needs you provide. We collect this to register you for events and livestreams and to host you at them.
Content you submit Such as Letters, comments, and other material you send us for publication. We collect this to review it and, if selected, publish it under your name.
Internet and network activity Such as pages visited, links clicked, time on site, browser type, and device information. We collect this to analyze how the site is used and improve our content and experience.
Email engagement data Such as whether you opened a newsletter and which links you clicked. We collect this to understand what content our readers find valuable.
How Long We Keep It
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with services. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymize it. Civic bounty contribution records are retained as long as necessary to fulfill the escrow, disclosure, and transparency commitments described in our Editorial Charter and Terms of Use. Content we publish, including Letters and comments, remains published under our editorial standards.
Do We Sell or Share Your Information?
We do not sell your personal information.
We do not share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We share limited information with service providers who help us operate the site and deliver our services, including our payment processor, email delivery provider, event registration and livestream platforms, and analytics provider. These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services on our behalf.
One form of disclosure is unique to CEO.com. If you contribute to a civic bounty above a threshold we set, your name and contribution amount may be publicly disclosed, as described in our Editorial Charter, Terms of Use, and Privacy Policy, unless anonymity is granted for a legitimate protective purpose. This is a transparency commitment of our journalism, and you accept it when you contribute above the threshold.

As a California resident, you have the right to:
Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and retain. Request access to the specific personal information we have collected about you. Request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions. Request correction of inaccurate personal information. Opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell or share. Limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide our services. Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
Deletion and correction rights do not extend to published journalism. Content we have published, including stories, Letters, and public civic bounty disclosures, is retained and published under our editorial standards and applicable law.
