Philip Brittan has heard the AI hype before
Philip Brittan studied artificial intelligence at Harvard almost 40 years ago, when the field was an academic backwater. Now that it is the only thing anyone in business wants to talk about, he spends much of his time telling people to lower their expectations.
"There's a lot of prognostication obviously in the industry about, 'Oh my God, AI changes everything,' or, 'Oh my God, everyone's going to be unemployed,'" Brittan told the CEO.com Podcast. "My belief is that nobody really knows. It's too early."
This is not a skeptic talking. Brittan is CEO of Bloomfire, an AI-powered knowledge management platform serving companies across nearly every industry, and his whole career has been a bet on machines that understand information. He founded four software companies, most recently Crux Informatics, a data operations firm backed by Goldman Sachs, Citi, Morgan Stanley, and Two Sigma. He ran Bloomberg's foreign exchange business, turned around Thomson Reuters' Eikon desktop, and led a 6,000-person product organization as CTO of that company's Financial & Risk division. His last job before Bloomfire was vice president of engineering and product for Google Workspace.
He believes in the tools, but objects to the magic.
"These tools, even generative AI, are statistical analysis tools," he said. "They're amazing, but they are statistical analysis tools." Feed a model clean, complete content, and it can do remarkable things. Feed it a mess, and it returns a mess, delivered with total confidence. "Garbage in, garbage out is as true now as it's ever been. AI does not change that, and in fact, it may be more pernicious because these AI models sound so credible."
A bad chart at least looks bad. Spikes, gaps, discontinuities. The reader knows to dig. An AI model sitting on bad data gives a smooth, plausible answer, and nothing about it invites a second look. Brittan hears the consequences from customers who bolted a model onto an unexamined content pile: hallucinations, answers no one trusts, more checking than the work would have taken by hand.
His conclusion, and Bloomfire's product thesis, is that the unglamorous work comes first. The company uses specialized AI models to find redundant documents and semantic conflicts in a knowledge base before those problems poison the answers. It published its evaluation framework this year in the 2026 Guide to Enterprise Intelligence Systems, a scored review of 12 platforms, and ran its own content library through the same analysis.
"They are tools, not magic," Brittan said. "If you try to use a chainsaw to nail a hammer and a nail, it's not going to work."
The strategy came before the job
Brittan did not go looking for the CEO seat. He joined Bloomfire's board in October 2024 as its independent director, with an assignment: figure out what the next chapter looks like for a profitable, growing company in a market AI was reshaping. His answer was a concept he calls Enterprise Intelligence, the convergence of knowledge management, enterprise search, and business intelligence into a single discipline. "They may look different, but they're all about helping companies query their corporate knowledge and get the most out of it," he said. "There's no reason for them to be separate. It's just historical."
He planted the flag as a board member. In March 2025 the board asked him to carry it, and after what he calls some soul-searching, he took the job.
He runs the company from the Montana ranch where he grew up. Bloomfire is headquartered in Austin, but the entire team is remote, a model Brittan resisted for most of his career until COVID forced everyone home, including his own fourth startup, and changed his mind. His rule now is that distributed culture cannot be absorbed by osmosis. Leadership has to carry it deliberately, and people still have to gather in person, because two days at an off-site pays dividends in every video call that follows. "You don't have to be together all the time, but you have to spend some time with each other," he said.
A trout stream runs next to his office. "I can very easily grab my rod, jump out there, fish for 20 minutes, and come back in."
Montana
Brittan moved home about three and a half years ago, working remotely for Google before taking the Bloomfire job. He chairs Scaling Montana, a nonprofit working to make the state a premier place to start and scale tech companies, and sits on the board of the Burton K. Wheeler Center, a public policy center based at Montana State University.
The ecosystem he describes is young but real: startups, remote employees of every major tech company, and serious photonics and quantum research coming out of Montana State, including what Brittan describes as one of only two full quantum test beds in the country. The state argues with itself about growth, sometimes within a single person: fuel the boom, block the border. What encourages Brittan is who shows up. "People come here to join the culture, not to change it."
The pig business
Every episode of the CEO.com Podcast ends with the same question: who gave you a chance?
Brittan started with his parents, and with the ranch itself, which he describes as a collection of small family businesses. His parents ran the cattle and bred the horses. His sister ran the egg business. He ran the pigs, kept the books, and paid for the feed out of his earnings. "We understood what running a little business felt like," he said.
Then came everyone after. The people who hired him, the investors who backed him, the employees who joined his startups. "They've all taken real risks, and they may not have known me very well at the time, but they backed me," he said. "I'm forever grateful, and I approach every day with gratitude about that."

00:01:25.922 --> 00:01:31.120
We<00:01:26.003> just<00:01:26.227> won<00:01:26.420> two<00:01:26.628> awards<00:01:27.045> recently,<00:01:27.991> industry<00:01:28.328> awards,<00:01:28.889> as<00:01:29.050> it<00:01:29.274> has<00:01:29.772> recognized<00:01:30.558> as<00:01:30.735> a<00:01:30.879> leader.
00:01:31.617 --> 00:01:34.779
I<00:01:31.778> got<00:01:32.034> involved,<00:01:33.045> as<00:01:33.366> you<00:01:33.447> say,<00:01:33.639> I'm<00:01:33.784> based<00:01:34.040> in<00:01:34.105> Montana.
00:01:34.987 --> 00:01:45.900
I<00:01:35.068> grew<00:01:35.372> up<00:01:36.095> on<00:01:36.175> this<00:01:36.416> ranch<00:01:37.058> where<00:01:37.138> I<00:01:37.234> now<00:01:37.539> live,<00:01:39.401> lived<00:01:39.641> in<00:01:39.722> New<00:01:39.786> York<00:01:40.123> for<00:01:40.267> many<00:01:40.444> years<00:01:40.845> and<00:01:40.925> then<00:01:41.487> came<00:01:41.728> home<00:01:41.984> about<00:01:42.209> 3.5<00:01:42.771> years<00:01:43.028> ago<00:01:43.332> full-time<00:01:44.841> and<00:01:45.339> live<00:01:45.563> here.

And<00:02:08.518> last,<00:02:08.903> I<00:02:08.935> think<00:02:09.143> I<00:02:09.176> started<00:02:09.705> in<00:02:09.785> October.
00:02:10.266 --> 00:02:13.504
We<00:02:10.362> were<00:02:10.522> having<00:02:10.763> discussions,<00:02:11.644> you<00:02:11.788> know,<00:02:11.901> over<00:02:12.029> the,<00:02:12.269> over<00:02:12.366> the<00:02:12.510> whole<00:02:12.750> course<00:02:12.943> of<00:02:12.991> the<00:02:13.071> last<00:02:13.391> year.
00:02:13.584 --> 00:02:17.143
And<00:02:14.674> I,<00:02:14.930> I<00:02:15.091> did<00:02:15.251> join,<00:02:15.716> formally<00:02:16.052> joined<00:02:16.293> the<00:02:16.437> board<00:02:16.678> last<00:02:16.934> fall.
00:02:17.639 --> 00:02:25.879
And<00:02:17.736> then<00:02:18.281> early<00:02:18.681> this<00:02:19.018> year,<00:02:19.579> and,<00:02:19.820> and<00:02:20.156> sorry,<00:02:20.942> my<00:02:21.342> role<00:02:21.743> on<00:02:21.887> the<00:02:22.048> board<00:02:22.288> was<00:02:22.465> one,<00:02:22.705> to<00:02:22.785> be<00:02:23.106> the<00:02:23.330> independent<00:02:25.334> board<00:02:25.590> member.
00:02:25.927 --> 00:02:36.565
So<00:02:26.167> not<00:02:26.328> part<00:02:26.632> of<00:02:26.664> the<00:02:26.713> investor<00:02:27.193> group<00:02:27.594> and<00:02:27.658> not<00:02:27.835> part<00:02:28.075> of<00:02:28.155> management,<00:02:29.197> and<00:02:29.341> also<00:02:29.758> specifically<00:02:30.800> to<00:02:30.896> think<00:02:32.472> about<00:02:33.213> where<00:02:33.375> the<00:02:33.471> strategy<00:02:34.325> for<00:02:34.454> the<00:02:34.567> firm<00:02:34.970> goes<00:02:35.791> in<00:02:35.856> the<00:02:35.904> next<00:02:36.194> chapter.
00:02:36.661 --> 00:02:40.401
It's<00:02:36.823> a<00:02:36.903> successful,<00:02:37.644> growing,<00:02:38.208> profitable<00:02:38.772> firm<00:02:39.658> doing<00:02:39.900> very<00:02:40.126> well.
00:02:40.950 --> 00:02:45.657
But<00:02:42.422> the<00:02:42.568> thinking<00:02:43.037> was,<00:02:43.441> hey,<00:02:44.104> what<00:02:44.282> does<00:02:44.428> the<00:02:44.508> next<00:02:44.816> chapter<00:02:45.236> look<00:02:45.463> like?
00:02:45.721 --> 00:02:48.729
And<00:02:45.802> a<00:02:45.867> lot's<00:02:46.190> changing<00:02:46.530> in<00:02:46.595> the<00:02:46.692> world<00:02:46.999> with<00:02:47.161> the<00:02:47.339> advent<00:02:47.581> of<00:02:47.727> AI,<00:02:48.212> obviously.
00:02:48.778 --> 00:02:50.220
I'm<00:02:48.956> sure<00:02:49.182> we'll<00:02:49.295> talk<00:02:49.522> about<00:02:49.831> that.
00:02:50.967 --> 00:02:57.528
And<00:02:51.714> just<00:02:52.023> changing<00:02:52.445> customer<00:02:52.851> expectations,<00:02:53.744> changing<00:02:54.215> market<00:02:54.556> conditions,<00:02:55.839> you<00:02:56.002> always<00:02:56.732> have<00:02:56.895> to<00:02:56.992> keep<00:02:57.236> evolving.
00:02:58.306 --> 00:03:03.390
And<00:02:58.467> so<00:02:59.124> I<00:02:59.269> was<00:02:59.429> tasked<00:02:59.766> to<00:02:59.926> think<00:03:00.151> about<00:03:00.792> our<00:03:01.514> strategy<00:03:02.572> for<00:03:02.669> the<00:03:02.733> next<00:03:02.973> chapter.
00:03:03.454 --> 00:03:07.576
And<00:03:03.599> I<00:03:03.711> also<00:03:04.016> think<00:03:04.176> about<00:03:04.882> company<00:03:05.299> lives<00:03:05.780> in<00:03:05.924> terms<00:03:06.758> of<00:03:07.063> chapters.
00:03:07.640 --> 00:03:19.299
And<00:03:07.720> it<00:03:07.768> felt<00:03:08.891> to<00:03:09.067> the<00:03:09.452> folks<00:03:09.789> inside<00:03:10.334> the<00:03:10.430> firm<00:03:11.393> just<00:03:11.633> at<00:03:11.713> the<00:03:11.794> time<00:03:12.114> that<00:03:12.275> I<00:03:12.660> joined<00:03:12.916> the<00:03:13.141> board<00:03:13.622> that<00:03:13.782> it<00:03:13.862> was<00:03:14.023> time<00:03:14.520> to<00:03:14.680> kind<00:03:14.857> of<00:03:14.921> think<00:03:15.177> about<00:03:15.707> where<00:03:16.204> we<00:03:16.364> go<00:03:17.086> for<00:03:17.166> this<00:03:17.407> next<00:03:17.711> chapter<00:03:18.289> of<00:03:18.609> how<00:03:18.770> many<00:03:19.010> years.
00:03:20.117 --> 00:03:23.485
And<00:03:20.277> so<00:03:20.518> I<00:03:20.614> spent<00:03:20.855> a<00:03:20.935> bunch<00:03:21.111> of<00:03:21.175> time<00:03:21.560> really<00:03:22.442> looking<00:03:22.763> at<00:03:22.859> the<00:03:22.955> space.
00:03:24.366 --> 00:03:39.771
And<00:03:25.344> came<00:03:25.585> up<00:03:25.745> with<00:03:25.905> this<00:03:26.130> idea<00:03:26.466> of<00:03:26.691> enterprise<00:03:27.188> intelligence<00:03:28.855> as<00:03:29.416> the<00:03:30.153> natural<00:03:31.756> convergence<00:03:32.638> and<00:03:32.862> evolution<00:03:33.744> of<00:03:33.840> knowledge<00:03:34.225> management<00:03:34.786> and<00:03:34.882> enterprise<00:03:35.315> search,<00:03:36.004> which<00:03:36.229> we<00:03:36.309> were<00:03:37.030> in<00:03:37.367> both<00:03:37.623> of<00:03:37.687> those<00:03:37.912> already,<00:03:38.313> plus<00:03:38.729> business<00:03:39.130> intelligence.
00:03:40.493 --> 00:03:42.865
And<00:03:40.573> I<00:03:40.653> realized<00:03:41.118> the<00:03:41.278> commonality<00:03:42.256> of<00:03:42.400> these<00:03:42.641> things.
00:03:42.961 --> 00:03:52.116
They<00:03:43.042> may<00:03:43.298> look<00:03:43.635> different,<00:03:44.100> but<00:03:44.244> they're<00:03:44.404> all<00:03:44.661> about<00:03:44.965> helping<00:03:45.302> companies<00:03:47.065> query<00:03:47.770> their<00:03:48.011> corporate<00:03:48.428> knowledge<00:03:49.149> and<00:03:49.309> get<00:03:49.550> the<00:03:49.790> most<00:03:50.736> out<00:03:50.929> of<00:03:51.057> their<00:03:51.218> corporate<00:03:51.555> knowledge.
00:03:52.421 --> 00:03:54.379
There's<00:03:52.581> no<00:03:52.758> reason<00:03:53.143> for<00:03:53.239> them<00:03:53.480> to<00:03:53.641> be<00:03:53.801> separate.
00:03:54.619 --> 00:03:55.678
It's<00:03:54.764> just<00:03:54.988> historical.
00:03:56.304 --> 00:03:57.861
And<00:03:56.368> so<00:03:56.529> they<00:03:56.753> could<00:03:56.930> really<00:03:57.171> come<00:03:57.395> together.
00:03:58.358 --> 00:04:10.184
So<00:03:58.599> I<00:03:58.695> did<00:03:59.321> a<00:03:59.401> whole<00:03:59.561> bunch<00:03:59.802> of<00:03:59.898> work,<00:04:00.380> research,<00:04:01.102> talked<00:04:01.358> to<00:04:01.519> a<00:04:01.535> lot<00:04:01.663> of<00:04:01.744> folks,<00:04:02.466> and<00:04:02.947> put<00:04:03.091> together<00:04:04.086> this<00:04:04.552> concept<00:04:05.755> and<00:04:06.012> a<00:04:06.060> set<00:04:06.317> of<00:04:06.461> principles<00:04:07.119> to<00:04:07.344> drive<00:04:09.044> enterprise<00:04:09.526> intelligence.
00:04:10.248 --> 00:04:21.644
And<00:04:10.328> I<00:04:10.408> presented<00:04:10.954> it<00:04:11.195> as<00:04:11.371> sort<00:04:11.596> of<00:04:11.692> the,<00:04:12.414> let's<00:04:12.607> say,<00:04:13.136> the<00:04:13.297> conceptual<00:04:14.500> flag<00:04:14.901> in<00:04:14.981> the<00:04:15.062> sand<00:04:15.687> for<00:04:15.944> BloomFire<00:04:17.212> to<00:04:17.308> go<00:04:17.693> after<00:04:17.870> and<00:04:18.030> really<00:04:18.736> execute<00:04:19.234> against<00:04:19.636> for<00:04:20.262> this<00:04:20.664> upcoming<00:04:21.066> chapter.
00:04:21.965 --> 00:04:35.637
And<00:04:22.769> then<00:04:23.476> an<00:04:24.279> opportunity<00:04:25.757> early<00:04:26.126> in<00:04:26.207> the<00:04:26.367> year<00:04:27.106> came<00:04:27.428> up<00:04:27.669> for<00:04:27.829> me<00:04:28.070> to<00:04:28.874> take<00:04:29.115> over<00:04:29.356> the<00:04:29.436> CEO<00:04:30.143> role,<00:04:30.625> and<00:04:30.721> the<00:04:31.348> board<00:04:33.115> asked<00:04:33.356> if<00:04:33.468> I'd<00:04:33.613> be<00:04:34.320> willing<00:04:34.657> to<00:04:34.963> do<00:04:35.204> that.
00:04:36.007 --> 00:04:39.718
And<00:04:36.248> after<00:04:36.746> some<00:04:37.292> soul<00:04:37.485> searching,<00:04:38.095> I<00:04:38.497> agreed<00:04:39.059> to<00:04:39.140> do<00:04:39.381> so.
00:04:39.798 --> 00:04:43.509
I<00:04:39.959> think<00:04:40.184> it's<00:04:40.859> a<00:04:41.244> wonderful<00:04:41.710> company<00:04:42.192> filled<00:04:42.449> with<00:04:42.674> wonderful<00:04:43.092> people.
00:04:43.975 --> 00:04:50.931
It's<00:04:44.281> in<00:04:44.393> a<00:04:44.618> really<00:04:45.807> exciting<00:04:46.305> space,<00:04:47.429> much,<00:04:47.750> much<00:04:48.007> needed<00:04:48.955> by<00:04:49.662> every<00:04:49.903> business<00:04:50.320> on<00:04:50.465> the<00:04:50.545> planet.
00:04:51.027 --> 00:04:56.392
It's<00:04:51.300> extremely,<00:04:52.424> extremely<00:04:53.211> common<00:04:54.898> set<00:04:55.685> of<00:04:55.878> needs.
00:04:56.665 --> 00:05:10.076
And<00:04:56.761> so<00:04:56.906> I<00:04:56.970> was<00:04:57.130> really<00:04:57.291> excited<00:04:57.725> about<00:04:58.014> that<00:04:58.190> scale<00:04:59.299> and<00:04:59.636> about<00:05:00.503> this<00:05:00.680> strategic<00:05:01.322> direction<00:05:02.061> and<00:05:02.190> being<00:05:02.431> able<00:05:02.591> to<00:05:02.688> really<00:05:02.929> flesh<00:05:03.491> out<00:05:04.133> enterprise<00:05:04.615> intelligence,<00:05:05.258> not<00:05:05.418> just<00:05:05.643> as<00:05:05.739> a<00:05:05.756> strategy,<00:05:06.286> but<00:05:06.366> then<00:05:06.687> also<00:05:07.603> to<00:05:07.731> be<00:05:07.828> the<00:05:07.972> one<00:05:08.133> driving<00:05:08.711> it<00:05:09.353> in<00:05:09.498> reality.
00:05:10.253 --> 00:05:15.313
So<00:05:10.799> those<00:05:11.682> were<00:05:12.148> the<00:05:12.228> drivers<00:05:13.272> and<00:05:13.369> it's<00:05:13.529> been<00:05:14.252> It's<00:05:14.413> been<00:05:14.654> terrific.
00:05:15.361 --> 00:05:23.057
I've,<00:05:15.763> you<00:05:15.843> know,<00:05:16.004> been<00:05:16.180> in<00:05:16.261> the<00:05:16.357> seat<00:05:16.662> for<00:05:16.743> about<00:05:16.984> 4<00:05:17.289> months<00:05:18.414> and<00:05:18.735> obviously<00:05:19.073> gotten<00:05:19.298> to<00:05:19.378> know<00:05:19.555> the<00:05:19.635> team<00:05:20.021> very<00:05:20.262> well<00:05:20.824> and<00:05:20.920> gotten<00:05:21.177> to<00:05:21.322> know<00:05:21.804> many<00:05:22.125> of<00:05:22.190> our<00:05:22.431> customers.
00:05:23.491 --> 00:05:27.588
And<00:05:24.841> it's<00:05:25.805> an<00:05:26.785> exciting<00:05:27.347> journey.
00:05:27.990 --> 00:05:30.593
How<00:05:28.215> has<00:05:28.858> AI<00:05:29.195> accelerated<00:05:30.079> BloomFire?
00:05:30.802 --> 00:05:38.836
It<00:05:30.898> seems<00:05:31.284> like<00:05:32.730> what<00:05:32.955> you<00:05:33.051> do<00:05:33.292> with<00:05:33.453> the<00:05:33.533> data<00:05:33.774> collection<00:05:34.272> and<00:05:34.417> the<00:05:34.562> way<00:05:34.883> you<00:05:35.124> can,<00:05:35.526> you<00:05:35.558> know,<00:05:35.767> kind<00:05:35.943> of<00:05:36.249> offer,<00:05:37.229> here's<00:05:37.454> all<00:05:37.534> these<00:05:37.711> insights<00:05:38.113> into<00:05:38.257> your<00:05:38.418> businesses.
00:05:38.900 --> 00:05:41.808
So<00:05:39.012> it<00:05:39.077> seems<00:05:39.269> like<00:05:39.462> AI<00:05:39.864> just<00:05:40.330> you<00:05:40.362> know,<00:05:40.539> superpowers<00:05:41.310> that,<00:05:41.551> right?
00:05:42.595 --> 00:05:43.029
Oh,<00:05:42.627> it<00:05:42.772> does.
00:05:43.158 --> 00:05:43.656
Absolutely.
00:05:43.736 --> 00:06:06.422
So<00:05:44.057> AI,<00:05:44.523> you<00:05:44.555> know,<00:05:44.780> AI<00:05:45.021> has<00:05:45.728> had<00:05:46.628> an<00:05:47.656> impact<00:05:48.636> in<00:05:48.717> the<00:05:48.877> industry<00:05:49.359> generally,<00:05:50.307> at<00:05:50.388> the<00:05:50.484> very<00:05:50.789> least,<00:05:51.127> a<00:05:51.143> lot<00:05:51.384> of<00:05:51.448> people<00:05:51.689> talking<00:05:52.107> about<00:05:52.557> it<00:05:52.653> and<00:05:52.798> running<00:05:52.991> around<00:05:53.440> and<00:05:53.537> trying<00:05:53.697> to<00:05:53.778> do<00:05:53.938> a<00:05:53.955> lot<00:05:54.179> of<00:05:54.260> experiments<00:05:54.967> and<00:05:55.625> get<00:05:55.770> their<00:05:56.091> arms<00:05:56.349> around<00:05:57.296> what<00:05:57.457> it<00:05:57.634> means<00:05:58.036> and<00:05:58.100> what<00:05:58.212> it's<00:05:58.421> going<00:05:58.694> to<00:05:58.823> mean<00:05:59.241> for<00:06:00.044> the<00:06:00.124> future<00:06:00.526> of<00:06:00.751> work,<00:06:01.233> for<00:06:01.329> employment,<00:06:02.775> for,<00:06:03.563> you<00:06:03.675> know,<00:06:03.884> skills<00:06:04.864> in<00:06:04.928> the<00:06:05.025> future<00:06:05.394> and<00:06:05.667> what's<00:06:05.908> possible.
00:06:06.850 --> 00:06:08.032
Productivity,<00:06:07.449> et<00:06:07.546> cetera.
00:06:09.392 --> 00:06:25.493
Definitely<00:06:10.202> in<00:06:10.348> our<00:06:10.542> space<00:06:10.995> where<00:06:11.173> we're<00:06:11.400> taking<00:06:11.756> knowledge<00:06:12.404> and<00:06:12.550> surfacing<00:06:13.263> insights<00:06:13.846> based<00:06:14.170> on<00:06:14.267> that<00:06:14.412> knowledge,<00:06:15.481> it's<00:06:15.627> directly<00:06:16.032> applicable<00:06:17.876> because<00:06:18.215> it's<00:06:18.684> fundamentally<00:06:20.544> an<00:06:20.625> insight<00:06:21.208> engine<00:06:21.531> that<00:06:21.677> sits<00:06:22.000> on<00:06:22.113> top<00:06:22.647> of<00:06:22.987> knowledge,<00:06:23.553> on<00:06:23.617> top<00:06:23.876> of<00:06:23.957> data<00:06:24.264> or<00:06:24.442> content<00:06:24.944> of<00:06:25.073> some<00:06:25.300> kind.
00:06:25.817 --> 00:06:44.667
And<00:06:25.978> so,<00:06:28.306> you<00:06:28.338> know,<00:06:28.872> we<00:06:29.033> recognize,<00:06:29.599> and<00:06:29.696> before<00:06:30.019> my<00:06:30.262> time,<00:06:31.409> the<00:06:31.555> firm<00:06:31.797> recognized<00:06:32.428> that<00:06:32.751> AI<00:06:33.074> was<00:06:33.317> really<00:06:33.915> a<00:06:33.980> powerful<00:06:34.772> additive<00:06:35.706> capability<00:06:37.069> to<00:06:37.165> what<00:06:37.389> we<00:06:37.469> were<00:06:37.566> doing<00:06:38.287> and<00:06:38.608> quickly<00:06:39.634> moved<00:06:39.970> to<00:06:40.467> adopt<00:06:40.916> it<00:06:40.996> and<00:06:41.093> build<00:06:41.333> AI<00:06:41.734> capabilities<00:06:43.241> into<00:06:43.401> the<00:06:44.299> product.
00:06:44.716 --> 00:06:53.613
So,<00:06:45.164> you<00:06:45.197> know,<00:06:45.341> previously<00:06:45.806> it<00:06:45.838> was<00:06:45.982> very<00:06:46.142> much<00:06:46.319> about<00:06:46.623> managing,<00:06:47.329> curating<00:06:49.012> content,<00:06:49.814> authoring<00:06:50.294> content,<00:06:50.775> and<00:06:50.856> then<00:06:51.096> searching<00:06:52.555> through<00:06:52.956> the<00:06:53.100> content.
00:06:54.222 --> 00:07:00.667
And<00:06:54.382> with<00:06:54.543> AI,<00:06:55.040> we<00:06:55.104> have,<00:06:55.424> in<00:06:55.521> addition<00:06:56.402> to<00:06:56.627> all<00:06:56.723> of<00:06:56.867> that,<00:06:57.268> also<00:06:57.589> the<00:06:57.669> ability<00:06:58.086> to<00:06:58.182> talk<00:06:58.551> to<00:06:58.583> your<00:06:58.791> content<00:06:59.609> and<00:06:59.833> ask<00:07:00.025> a<00:07:00.154> question.
00:07:01.132 --> 00:07:06.426
Not<00:07:01.228> necessarily<00:07:01.693> just<00:07:01.918> get<00:07:02.078> back<00:07:02.495> a<00:07:02.576> document<00:07:03.073> or<00:07:03.153> a<00:07:03.217> set<00:07:03.474> of<00:07:03.602> documents<00:07:04.180> that<00:07:04.340> match,<00:07:05.046> but<00:07:05.463> the<00:07:05.608> actual<00:07:06.009> answer.
00:07:07.164 --> 00:07:14.817
So<00:07:09.153> we<00:07:09.314> have<00:07:09.554> that<00:07:09.972> in<00:07:10.100> BlueFire,<00:07:10.677> and<00:07:11.399> we've<00:07:11.544> had<00:07:11.704> that<00:07:11.881> for<00:07:12.041> a<00:07:12.105> while,<00:07:12.442> and<00:07:13.004> we<00:07:13.100> continue<00:07:13.485> to<00:07:13.646> make<00:07:13.806> that<00:07:14.047> better<00:07:14.351> and<00:07:14.448> better.
00:07:15.234 --> 00:07:31.892
We're<00:07:15.410> very<00:07:15.635> excited<00:07:16.212> about<00:07:17.239> all<00:07:17.416> kinds<00:07:17.881> of<00:07:17.977> ways<00:07:18.378> that<00:07:18.539> we<00:07:18.699> might<00:07:18.844> be<00:07:19.036> able<00:07:19.261> to<00:07:19.501> use<00:07:20.608> AI<00:07:21.411> in<00:07:21.507> novel,<00:07:22.293> in,<00:07:23.256> you<00:07:23.288> know,<00:07:23.673> very<00:07:23.994> practical,<00:07:25.101> very,<00:07:25.341> very<00:07:25.758> grounded,<00:07:26.930> about<00:07:27.203> AI,<00:07:27.524> not<00:07:27.765> breathless<00:07:28.648> about<00:07:29.114> it,<00:07:29.274> but<00:07:29.515> we<00:07:29.676> understand<00:07:30.880> deeply<00:07:31.282> what<00:07:31.442> it<00:07:31.603> is.
00:07:31.940 --> 00:07:34.783
And<00:07:32.005> I<00:07:32.085> have<00:07:32.197> a<00:07:32.567> pretty<00:07:32.824> deep<00:07:33.289> background<00:07:33.787> in<00:07:33.868> AI<00:07:34.189> myself.
00:07:35.136 --> 00:07:39.730
It's<00:07:35.554> what<00:07:35.714> I<00:07:35.795> studied<00:07:36.212> in<00:07:36.341> college<00:07:36.774> almost<00:07:37.080> 40<00:07:37.465> years<00:07:37.706> ago,<00:07:39.007> believe<00:07:39.248> it<00:07:39.328> or<00:07:39.408> not.
00:07:39.890 --> 00:07:59.636
And<00:07:40.709> so<00:07:41.095> we<00:07:41.239> think<00:07:41.480> there's<00:07:41.962> all<00:07:42.058> kinds<00:07:42.396> of<00:07:42.524> applications,<00:07:43.166> certainly<00:07:43.664> for<00:07:43.809> surfacing<00:07:44.933> insights,<00:07:45.656> both<00:07:45.913> reactive,<00:07:46.635> you<00:07:46.732> know,<00:07:46.876> customer<00:07:47.262> asking<00:07:47.503> a<00:07:47.519> question,<00:07:48.563> and<00:07:48.707> proactive<00:07:49.382> to<00:07:49.831> say,<00:07:50.088> hey,<00:07:51.052> given<00:07:52.080> what<00:07:52.321> you<00:07:52.497> do<00:07:53.044> and<00:07:53.140> given<00:07:53.365> the<00:07:53.445> kinds<00:07:53.782> of<00:07:53.863> things<00:07:54.087> you're<00:07:54.248> interested<00:07:54.682> in,<00:07:55.308> here's<00:07:55.645> some,<00:07:56.416> information<00:07:56.832> or<00:07:57.073> here's<00:07:57.329> an<00:07:57.553> insight<00:07:58.258> that<00:07:58.418> may<00:07:58.595> be<00:07:58.819> relevant<00:07:59.300> to<00:07:59.460> you.
00:07:59.796 --> 00:08:06.381
So<00:07:59.956> we<00:08:00.036> think<00:08:00.197> that<00:08:00.437> proactive<00:08:01.062> aspect<00:08:02.263> is<00:08:03.016> underleveraged<00:08:03.817> in<00:08:03.881> the<00:08:04.026> market<00:08:04.426> today<00:08:05.147> and<00:08:05.788> much<00:08:06.044> needed.
00:08:07.807 --> 00:08:11.860
The<00:08:08.031> unknown<00:08:08.608> unknowns<00:08:09.168> are<00:08:09.569> as<00:08:09.713> important<00:08:10.130> as<00:08:10.290> the<00:08:10.514> known<00:08:11.315> unknowns.
00:08:12.132 --> 00:08:14.872
I<00:08:12.148> can<00:08:12.292> even<00:08:13.013> go<00:08:13.478> for<00:08:14.535> that.
00:08:14.936 --> 00:08:15.016
Yeah.
00:08:15.176 --> 00:08:16.810
I<00:08:15.256> think<00:08:15.401> that<00:08:15.497> might<00:08:15.641> have<00:08:15.721> been<00:08:15.817> like<00:08:15.977> a<00:08:16.057> Dick<00:08:16.218> Cheney<00:08:16.602> quote.
00:08:16.939 --> 00:08:17.499
That's<00:08:17.243> cool.
00:08:17.820 --> 00:08:18.156
Yeah.
00:08:18.557 --> 00:08:19.758
Or<00:08:18.701> Donald<00:08:19.021> Rumsfeld.
00:08:20.143 --> 00:08:20.463
Yeah.
00:08:20.639 --> 00:08:26.615
I'm<00:08:21.088> like,<00:08:22.129> oh<00:08:22.209> yeah,<00:08:23.107> that's<00:08:23.731> actually<00:08:24.244> a<00:08:24.292> more<00:08:24.468> coherent<00:08:24.933> way<00:08:25.029> to<00:08:25.173> use<00:08:25.350> it<00:08:25.494> than<00:08:25.654> he<00:08:25.750> did,<00:08:25.910> if<00:08:26.070> I<00:08:26.087> remember<00:08:26.535> right.
00:08:26.936 --> 00:08:27.288
Yeah.
00:08:27.417 --> 00:08:36.137
And<00:08:27.513> then<00:08:27.673> we<00:08:27.817> also<00:08:28.090> think,<00:08:28.394> look,<00:08:28.699> AI<00:08:28.955> can<00:08:29.116> be<00:08:29.340> used<00:08:29.757> not<00:08:29.917> just<00:08:30.142> for<00:08:30.222> insights,<00:08:30.558> but<00:08:30.703> also<00:08:31.120> like<00:08:31.360> we<00:08:31.584> have<00:08:31.745> a<00:08:31.841> big<00:08:32.001> focus<00:08:32.626> on<00:08:33.444> cleaning<00:08:33.925> data<00:08:34.326> and<00:08:34.470> having<00:08:34.742> a<00:08:34.806> self-healing<00:08:35.528> knowledge<00:08:35.929> base.
00:08:36.249 --> 00:08:46.028
And<00:08:36.329> we<00:08:36.409> think<00:08:36.955> we<00:08:37.115> can<00:08:37.836> use<00:08:38.157> AI,<00:08:38.493> very<00:08:38.670> specialized<00:08:39.920> models<00:08:40.978> to<00:08:41.299> go<00:08:41.683> after<00:08:42.757> specialized<00:08:43.607> kinds<00:08:43.944> of<00:08:44.024> tasks<00:08:44.505> like<00:08:44.825> identifying.
00:08:46.492 --> 00:08:57.714
We're<00:08:46.573> already<00:08:46.765> starting<00:08:47.150> to<00:08:47.230> do<00:08:47.390> some<00:08:47.631> of<00:08:47.711> this,<00:08:48.673> identifying<00:08:49.939> when<00:08:50.179> you<00:08:50.276> have<00:08:51.157> documents<00:08:51.702> in<00:08:51.782> your<00:08:51.831> knowledge<00:08:52.199> base<00:08:52.520> maybe<00:08:52.760> that<00:08:52.921> are<00:08:53.562> really<00:08:53.946> redundant,<00:08:54.604> that<00:08:54.764> are<00:08:54.924> 90%<00:08:55.630> overlap<00:08:56.207> and<00:08:56.287> should<00:08:57.008> be<00:08:57.153> brought<00:08:57.393> together.
00:08:57.794 --> 00:09:04.926
The<00:08:57.890> best<00:08:58.146> of<00:08:58.275> both<00:08:58.387> should<00:08:58.740> brought<00:08:58.932> together,<00:08:59.961> or<00:09:00.941> when<00:09:01.246> two<00:09:01.359> documents<00:09:01.969> directly<00:09:02.853> conflict<00:09:03.431> each<00:09:03.672> other<00:09:03.930> semantically.
00:09:05.054 --> 00:09:21.492
It's<00:09:05.183> very<00:09:05.343> hard<00:09:05.520> to<00:09:05.665> do<00:09:05.922> if<00:09:06.067> you<00:09:06.163> don't<00:09:06.484> use<00:09:06.709> AI<00:09:07.047> to<00:09:07.513> understand<00:09:08.316> what<00:09:08.493> the<00:09:08.573> documents—<00:09:09.457> understand<00:09:10.164> in<00:09:10.196> some<00:09:10.421> sense<00:09:11.867> what<00:09:12.012> the<00:09:12.092> documents<00:09:12.510> are<00:09:12.606> saying,<00:09:12.992> be<00:09:13.056> able<00:09:13.153> to<00:09:13.313> semantically<00:09:14.052> look<00:09:14.422> at,<00:09:14.663> oh,<00:09:14.920> these<00:09:15.097> are<00:09:15.820> saying<00:09:16.109> the<00:09:16.141> same<00:09:16.447> thing,<00:09:16.752> or,<00:09:16.848> oh,<00:09:16.993> these<00:09:17.170> are<00:09:17.250> saying<00:09:17.491> the<00:09:17.716> opposite<00:09:18.198> things,<00:09:18.455> or<00:09:18.535> these<00:09:18.841> are<00:09:18.921> saying<00:09:19.178> different<00:09:19.483> things,<00:09:19.757> and<00:09:19.885> that's<00:09:20.062> fine,<00:09:20.769> they're<00:09:20.865> complementary.
00:09:21.845 --> 00:09:35.157
So<00:09:22.247> we<00:09:22.392> think<00:09:22.552> there's<00:09:22.777> a<00:09:22.793> lot<00:09:23.276> of<00:09:23.741> opportunity<00:09:24.914> to<00:09:24.962> be<00:09:25.122> using<00:09:25.667> AI<00:09:26.084> models<00:09:26.629> and,<00:09:26.966> and<00:09:27.190> really<00:09:27.527> kind<00:09:27.863> of<00:09:27.992> a<00:09:28.072> collection<00:09:28.713> of<00:09:28.809> models<00:09:30.172> that<00:09:30.236> are<00:09:30.412> very<00:09:30.653> specialized<00:09:31.358> to<00:09:31.454> do<00:09:31.679> all<00:09:31.759> kinds<00:09:31.951> of<00:09:32.079> tasks,<00:09:32.480> all<00:09:32.640> collaborating,<00:09:34.083> all<00:09:34.179> collaborating<00:09:34.805> together.
00:09:35.846 --> 00:09:39.133
As<00:09:35.943> you<00:09:36.103> think<00:09:36.279> about<00:09:36.648> AI<00:09:37.065> and<00:09:37.129> having<00:09:37.401> studied<00:09:37.850> it,<00:09:38.027> where<00:09:38.171> do<00:09:38.235> you<00:09:38.347> think<00:09:38.507> we're<00:09:38.652> going<00:09:38.972> here?
00:09:39.213 --> 00:09:57.102
I<00:09:39.229> mean,<00:09:39.389> you<00:09:39.469> got<00:09:39.630> all<00:09:39.710> these<00:09:39.934> doomsdayers,<00:09:40.672> you've<00:09:40.832> got<00:09:41.794> people<00:09:42.018> who<00:09:42.114> think<00:09:42.291> it's<00:09:42.387> going<00:09:42.499> to<00:09:42.579> be<00:09:42.659> the<00:09:42.820> greatest<00:09:43.156> thing<00:09:43.381> ever,<00:09:44.022> and<00:09:44.118> then<00:09:44.278> you've<00:09:44.439> got<00:09:44.679> like<00:09:44.920> the,<00:09:45.096> it<00:09:45.320> seems<00:09:45.545> like<00:09:45.641> the<00:09:45.785> practical<00:09:46.507> application,<00:09:47.244> at<00:09:47.276> least<00:09:47.484> currently,<00:09:47.901> is<00:09:48.045> what<00:09:48.190> you're<00:09:48.430> doing<00:09:48.687> with<00:09:48.991> it,<00:09:49.793> which<00:09:50.033> is<00:09:50.546> really<00:09:50.915> kind<00:09:51.091> of<00:09:51.332> fine-tuning<00:09:52.277> it<00:09:52.598> and,<00:09:52.999> you<00:09:53.079> know,<00:09:53.175> having<00:09:53.496> it<00:09:53.640> do<00:09:53.977> very<00:09:54.233> specific<00:09:55.003> and<00:09:55.179> power<00:09:55.724> very<00:09:55.916> specific,<00:09:56.622> tasks.
00:09:57.327 --> 00:09:58.738
Where,<00:09:57.567> where,<00:09:57.984> where<00:09:58.144> are<00:09:58.305> we<00:09:58.449> at<00:09:58.625> here?
00:09:59.507 --> 00:10:00.132
What's<00:09:59.667> going<00:09:59.779> to<00:09:59.828> happen?
00:10:00.773 --> 00:10:06.624
So<00:10:01.030> I<00:10:01.190> think,<00:10:03.034> I<00:10:03.050> think<00:10:03.338> there's,<00:10:04.220> I<00:10:04.300> think<00:10:04.476> it's<00:10:04.637> early<00:10:04.957> days<00:10:05.935> is<00:10:06.063> what<00:10:06.159> I<00:10:06.320> think.
00:10:06.881 --> 00:10:09.029
That's<00:10:07.105> the<00:10:07.266> easy<00:10:07.506> answer,<00:10:07.843> but<00:10:08.019> I,<00:10:08.243> I<00:10:08.324> really<00:10:08.644> believe<00:10:08.965> that.
00:10:09.125 --> 00:10:23.184
And<00:10:09.285> I<00:10:09.430> think<00:10:10.648> some<00:10:10.824> of<00:10:10.888> the<00:10:10.969> things<00:10:11.449> we,<00:10:12.251> some<00:10:12.411> of<00:10:12.459> the<00:10:12.636> evidence<00:10:13.052> we<00:10:13.149> see<00:10:13.373> of<00:10:13.517> that<00:10:13.870> is<00:10:13.998> that<00:10:14.175> there,<00:10:14.415> there's<00:10:14.655> a,<00:10:14.896> you<00:10:14.992> know,<00:10:15.313> we're<00:10:16.323> pretty<00:10:17.140> early<00:10:17.621> and<00:10:17.926> up<00:10:18.166> on<00:10:18.262> the,<00:10:18.903> the,<00:10:19.304> the<00:10:19.448> peak<00:10:20.090> of<00:10:20.186> inflated<00:10:20.667> expectations<00:10:21.468> in<00:10:21.548> the<00:10:21.709> classic<00:10:22.430> hype<00:10:22.687> cycle.
00:10:23.777 --> 00:10:28.409
And<00:10:24.418> a<00:10:24.514> lot<00:10:24.738> of<00:10:24.819> folks<00:10:25.139> are,<00:10:25.476> are<00:10:25.700> jumping<00:10:26.181> on<00:10:26.502> it<00:10:26.678> and<00:10:26.774> saying,<00:10:27.143> oh<00:10:27.223> my<00:10:27.319> gosh,<00:10:27.640> AI<00:10:27.880> is<00:10:27.977> the<00:10:28.105> future.
00:10:28.602 --> 00:10:46.216
And<00:10:28.682> there's<00:10:28.907> a<00:10:28.923> lot<00:10:29.164> of<00:10:29.228> prognostication<00:10:30.208> obviously<00:10:31.091> in<00:10:31.187> the<00:10:31.396> industry<00:10:31.958> about,<00:10:33.001> oh<00:10:33.082> my<00:10:33.194> God,<00:10:33.644> AI<00:10:33.981> changes<00:10:34.527> everything,<00:10:35.105> or<00:10:35.249> oh<00:10:35.346> my<00:10:35.426> God,<00:10:35.587> everyone's<00:10:35.827> going<00:10:35.972> to<00:10:36.213> be<00:10:36.309> unemployed,<00:10:36.951> or<00:10:37.192> all<00:10:37.337> these<00:10:37.449> sort<00:10:37.754> of,<00:10:38.477> yeah,<00:10:38.782> I<00:10:38.798> don't<00:10:38.958> know<00:10:38.991> if<00:10:39.039> they're<00:10:39.199> doomsayers<00:10:39.858> or<00:10:40.484> just<00:10:41.624> people,<00:10:43.117> you<00:10:43.149> know,<00:10:43.615> melodramatic,<00:10:44.964> let's<00:10:45.124> say<00:10:45.381> interpretation.
00:10:46.264 --> 00:10:50.134
And<00:10:46.746> I<00:10:46.826> think,<00:10:47.773> but<00:10:48.496> my<00:10:48.753> belief<00:10:49.090> is<00:10:49.219> nobody<00:10:49.540> really<00:10:49.797> knows.
00:10:50.359 --> 00:10:51.691
It's<00:10:51.065> too<00:10:51.322> early.
00:10:52.285 --> 00:11:09.055
And<00:10:52.350> we<00:10:52.446> see,<00:10:53.169> and<00:10:53.506> some,<00:10:54.132> very,<00:10:54.452> you<00:10:55.799> know,<00:10:56.007> specific<00:10:56.873> evidence<00:10:57.338> we<00:10:57.482> see<00:10:57.738> is,<00:10:58.059> is<00:10:58.364> all<00:10:58.460> kinds<00:10:58.844> of<00:10:58.925> companies<00:10:59.421> have<00:10:59.502> been<00:10:59.806> rushing<00:11:00.447> out,<00:11:00.704> understandably,<00:11:01.746> to<00:11:02.066> do<00:11:02.195> a<00:11:02.291> lot<00:11:02.467> of<00:11:02.547> experiments<00:11:03.253> and<00:11:03.365> figure<00:11:03.733> out<00:11:03.974> AI<00:11:04.455> and<00:11:04.856> hire<00:11:05.256> people<00:11:05.577> who<00:11:05.609> know<00:11:05.769> what<00:11:05.913> they're,<00:11:06.218> what<00:11:06.314> they're<00:11:06.474> doing<00:11:06.955> with<00:11:07.196> AI<00:11:08.302> to<00:11:08.398> try<00:11:08.638> to<00:11:08.703> understand.
00:11:09.119 --> 00:11:10.578
Nobody<00:11:09.360> wants<00:11:09.536> to<00:11:09.616> get<00:11:09.761> left<00:11:10.001> behind.
00:11:10.626 --> 00:11:15.339
And,<00:11:10.722> and<00:11:11.027> people,<00:11:11.347> I<00:11:11.428> think,<00:11:11.540> see<00:11:11.925> the,<00:11:12.806> the<00:11:12.966> promise<00:11:13.752> in<00:11:14.329> some<00:11:14.569> conceptual<00:11:15.195> sense.
00:11:15.387 --> 00:11:18.096
They<00:11:15.531> understand<00:11:16.076> it's<00:11:16.253> valuable<00:11:16.798> if<00:11:16.878> they<00:11:16.974> can<00:11:17.134> figure<00:11:17.359> out<00:11:17.439> how<00:11:17.535> to<00:11:17.695> use<00:11:17.936> it.
00:11:18.721 --> 00:11:25.957
Yet,<00:11:19.218> and<00:11:19.298> you've<00:11:19.442> probably<00:11:19.715> seen<00:11:20.003> some<00:11:20.116> of<00:11:20.164> these<00:11:20.340> headlines,<00:11:21.527> the,<00:11:21.784> you<00:11:21.880> know,<00:11:22.121> huge<00:11:22.827> percentage<00:11:24.015> of<00:11:24.336> these<00:11:24.592> projects<00:11:25.074> are<00:11:25.154> being<00:11:25.411> abandoned.
00:11:26.502 --> 00:11:28.059
And,<00:11:26.823> and<00:11:26.920> some<00:11:27.176> of<00:11:27.257> that<00:11:27.546> is<00:11:27.706> fine.
00:11:28.268 --> 00:11:36.919
People<00:11:28.509> are—<00:11:28.669> it's<00:11:28.846> early<00:11:29.086> days,<00:11:29.407> people<00:11:29.632> are<00:11:29.664> doing<00:11:29.969> experimentation,<00:11:30.852> and,<00:11:31.237> you<00:11:31.333> know,<00:11:31.478> when<00:11:31.638> you<00:11:31.719> experiment,<00:11:32.377> you<00:11:32.601> expect<00:11:33.003> to<00:11:33.083> abandon<00:11:33.966> a<00:11:33.982> bunch<00:11:34.222> of<00:11:34.319> experiments<00:11:34.945> and<00:11:35.089> kind<00:11:35.250> of<00:11:35.330> move<00:11:35.506> forward<00:11:35.892> with<00:11:35.972> the<00:11:36.068> things<00:11:36.373> that<00:11:36.469> are<00:11:36.614> working.
00:11:37.577 --> 00:11:50.836
But<00:11:37.673> I<00:11:37.834> think,<00:11:39.102> uh,<00:11:39.439> a<00:11:39.455> number<00:11:39.760> of<00:11:39.856> firms<00:11:40.386> have<00:11:40.562> been<00:11:40.963> kind<00:11:41.124> of<00:11:41.156> surprised,<00:11:41.750> from<00:11:41.910> what<00:11:42.071> I've,<00:11:42.392> from<00:11:42.552> what<00:11:42.729> I've<00:11:42.873> read<00:11:43.034> and<00:11:43.275> what<00:11:43.435> I've<00:11:43.596> heard,<00:11:44.735> uh,<00:11:45.136> in<00:11:45.281> the<00:11:45.377> industry,<00:11:46.099> by<00:11:47.849> how<00:11:48.588> not<00:11:49.230> magical<00:11:49.872> it's<00:11:50.033> turned<00:11:50.274> out<00:11:50.434> to<00:11:50.515> be.
00:11:51.398 --> 00:11:59.795
And<00:11:51.494> so<00:11:51.719> I<00:11:51.799> think<00:11:52.602> we're<00:11:52.763> still<00:11:53.019> in<00:11:53.148> a<00:11:53.228> phase<00:11:53.790> of<00:11:53.903> there's<00:11:54.625> a<00:11:54.689> huge<00:11:54.930> amount<00:11:55.155> of<00:11:55.235> promise<00:11:56.199> and<00:11:56.295> people<00:11:56.536> are<00:11:56.632> starting<00:11:57.242> to<00:11:57.323> figure<00:11:57.563> out<00:11:57.740> some<00:11:58.142> areas<00:11:58.687> where<00:11:58.864> it's<00:11:59.025> very<00:11:59.330> useful.
00:12:00.309 --> 00:12:01.851
We<00:12:00.406> certainly<00:12:00.871> do<00:12:01.032> within<00:12:01.321> Bloomfire.
00:12:01.995 --> 00:12:02.268
I<00:12:02.156> do.
00:12:02.461 --> 00:12:07.727
I<00:12:02.621> use<00:12:03.344> AI<00:12:03.520> models<00:12:04.323> every<00:12:04.564> day<00:12:05.752> to<00:12:05.849> help<00:12:06.090> me<00:12:06.635> in<00:12:06.989> various<00:12:07.454> ways.
00:12:07.775 --> 00:12:11.838
I<00:12:07.920> think<00:12:08.097> they're<00:12:08.980> wonderful<00:12:09.461> tools,<00:12:10.007> but<00:12:10.104> you<00:12:10.152> have<00:12:10.280> to<00:12:10.345> understand<00:12:10.842> that<00:12:11.051> they<00:12:11.147> are<00:12:11.308> tools.
00:12:12.672 --> 00:12:15.221
Not<00:12:12.977> magic<00:12:13.410> and<00:12:14.115> you<00:12:14.179> have<00:12:14.291> to<00:12:14.435> use<00:12:14.580> it<00:12:14.676> like<00:12:14.836> any<00:12:15.077> tool.
00:12:15.413 --> 00:12:16.616
You<00:12:15.542> have<00:12:15.654> to<00:12:15.798> use<00:12:15.974> it<00:12:16.038> appropriately.
00:12:16.664 --> 00:12:22.867
If<00:12:16.696> you<00:12:16.920> try<00:12:17.080> to<00:12:17.161> use<00:12:17.337> a<00:12:17.401> chainsaw<00:12:18.042> to,<00:12:19.164> you<00:12:19.261> know,<00:12:19.886> nail<00:12:20.190> a<00:12:21.152> hammer<00:12:21.409> in<00:12:21.569> a<00:12:21.585> nail,<00:12:21.970> it's<00:12:22.194> not<00:12:22.354> gonna<00:12:22.531> work.
00:12:23.156 --> 00:12:26.955
So<00:12:23.220> you've<00:12:23.412> gotta<00:12:23.717> use<00:12:23.957> it<00:12:24.038> the<00:12:24.134> right<00:12:24.438> way<00:12:24.615> and<00:12:24.759> you've<00:12:24.855> gotta<00:12:25.096> use<00:12:25.256> it<00:12:25.416> for<00:12:25.496> the<00:12:25.576> right,<00:12:25.961> for<00:12:26.057> the<00:12:26.121> right<00:12:26.378> job.
00:12:27.115 --> 00:12:41.254
So<00:12:27.436> I<00:12:27.500> think<00:12:27.741> companies<00:12:28.606> are<00:12:29.087> starting<00:12:29.905> to<00:12:30.065> come<00:12:30.225> to<00:12:30.385> grips<00:12:30.706> with<00:12:30.786> that<00:12:31.123> and<00:12:31.251> they've,<00:12:32.053> I<00:12:32.085> think,<00:12:32.854> you<00:12:32.934> know,<00:12:33.046> they've<00:12:33.255> had<00:12:35.050> some<00:12:35.435> issue<00:12:35.820> of<00:12:35.996> understanding<00:12:37.359> that<00:12:37.984> AI<00:12:38.705> has<00:12:38.946> a<00:12:39.042> tremendous<00:12:39.394> amount<00:12:39.619> of<00:12:39.683> potential<00:12:40.228> and<00:12:40.308> could<00:12:40.404> do<00:12:40.581> a<00:12:40.629> lot<00:12:40.821> of<00:12:40.949> things.
00:12:41.751 --> 00:12:50.585
But<00:12:41.927> there's<00:12:42.488> been,<00:12:42.793> from<00:12:42.969> what<00:12:43.129> I<00:12:43.290> understand,<00:12:44.733> Some<00:12:45.294> struggle<00:12:45.775> to<00:12:45.935> really<00:12:46.400> connect<00:12:47.057> the<00:12:47.218> capabilities<00:12:48.180> with<00:12:48.581> the<00:12:48.725> use<00:12:48.981> cases,<00:12:49.462> with<00:12:49.703> the<00:12:50.008> value.
00:12:50.729 --> 00:12:52.974
Like,<00:12:50.906> where<00:12:51.082> is<00:12:51.226> it<00:12:51.531> actually<00:12:52.573> useful?
00:12:53.054 --> 00:12:54.305
Where<00:12:53.150> is<00:12:53.311> it<00:12:53.471> really<00:12:53.792> valuable?
00:12:54.673 --> 00:13:00.574
And<00:12:54.962> because<00:12:55.315> it<00:12:55.459> doesn't<00:12:55.716> determine<00:12:56.197> that<00:12:56.357> for<00:12:56.517> you<00:12:56.678> on<00:12:56.774> its<00:12:56.982> own,<00:12:57.319> you<00:12:57.399> have<00:12:57.559> to—<00:12:58.201> again,<00:12:58.505> it's<00:12:58.666> a<00:12:58.682> tool,<00:12:59.002> you<00:12:59.067> have<00:12:59.179> to<00:12:59.403> use<00:12:59.628> it<00:12:59.724> for<00:13:00.061> something.
00:13:01.231 --> 00:13:06.218
And<00:13:01.327> I<00:13:01.408> think<00:13:01.712> some<00:13:01.953> firms<00:13:02.273> are<00:13:02.370> still<00:13:02.995> casting<00:13:03.492> around<00:13:03.893> to<00:13:03.957> figure<00:13:04.278> out,<00:13:04.534> okay,<00:13:04.919> where,<00:13:05.320> where<00:13:05.576> is<00:13:05.721> it<00:13:05.801> useful?
00:13:06.763 --> 00:13:08.559
The<00:13:06.859> other<00:13:07.099> is<00:13:07.260> just<00:13:07.500> getting<00:13:07.741> the<00:13:07.885> basics<00:13:08.286> right.
00:13:09.168 --> 00:13:11.765
And<00:13:09.825> again,<00:13:10.226> it's<00:13:10.322> a<00:13:10.450> tool,<00:13:11.092> not<00:13:11.268> magic.
00:13:11.813 --> 00:13:14.768
So<00:13:11.990> you<00:13:12.150> have<00:13:12.471> to<00:13:13.177> use<00:13:13.498> it<00:13:13.836> in<00:13:13.916> appropriate<00:13:14.462> ways.
00:13:15.282 --> 00:13:27.461
And,<00:13:15.587> you<00:13:15.683> know,<00:13:16.246> and<00:13:16.326> a<00:13:16.406> big<00:13:16.551> part<00:13:16.808> of<00:13:16.953> what<00:13:17.130> we're<00:13:17.451> focused<00:13:17.917> on<00:13:18.013> at<00:13:18.094> Bloomfire<00:13:18.736> is,<00:13:19.524> is<00:13:20.102> accepting<00:13:20.809> and<00:13:20.986> understanding<00:13:22.512> that<00:13:22.898> AI<00:13:23.235> is<00:13:23.701> only<00:13:24.103> useful<00:13:24.987> on<00:13:25.083> top<00:13:25.501> of<00:13:26.288> some<00:13:26.449> kind<00:13:26.674> of<00:13:26.754> content<00:13:27.252> base.
00:13:28.071 --> 00:13:34.804
It<00:13:28.152> is<00:13:28.361> fundamentally—<00:13:29.019> these<00:13:29.180> tools,<00:13:29.501> even<00:13:29.742> generative<00:13:30.305> AI,<00:13:31.896> are<00:13:33.133> statistical<00:13:33.920> analysis<00:13:34.482> tools.
00:13:35.109 --> 00:13:41.677
They're<00:13:35.430> very,<00:13:36.009> very<00:13:37.214> complex,<00:13:38.323> very<00:13:39.768> sophisticated,<00:13:40.907> really<00:13:41.228> amazing.
00:13:42.014 --> 00:13:44.950
They're<00:13:42.431> amazing,<00:13:42.912> but<00:13:43.073> they<00:13:43.378> are<00:13:43.490> statistical<00:13:44.116> analysis<00:13:44.677> tools.
00:13:44.998 --> 00:13:53.679
They<00:13:45.143> take<00:13:45.881> big<00:13:46.041> piles<00:13:46.442> of<00:13:46.522> training<00:13:46.924> data<00:13:47.245> or<00:13:47.565> context<00:13:48.769> data<00:13:49.314> and<00:13:49.635> they<00:13:50.036> look<00:13:50.518> at<00:13:51.095> statistical<00:13:51.689> relationships<00:13:52.459> between<00:13:52.764> the<00:13:52.844> elements<00:13:53.261> in<00:13:53.406> that.
00:13:53.743 --> 00:14:00.016
And<00:13:53.823> then<00:13:54.048> based<00:13:54.368> on<00:13:54.449> what<00:13:54.609> you're<00:13:54.770> asking<00:13:55.187> me,<00:13:55.668> they<00:13:55.813> give<00:13:56.053> you<00:13:56.230> an<00:13:56.454> answer,<00:13:56.791> some<00:13:57.016> kind<00:13:57.176> of<00:13:57.273> insight<00:13:57.658> that's<00:13:57.914> based<00:13:58.540> on<00:13:58.652> statistical<00:13:59.262> relationships.
00:14:00.305 --> 00:14:04.782
And<00:14:00.562> while<00:14:00.722> the<00:14:00.883> answer<00:14:01.123> may<00:14:01.284> be<00:14:01.428> novel,<00:14:02.247> it<00:14:02.471> is<00:14:02.808> based<00:14:03.145> on<00:14:03.273> this<00:14:03.450> content.
00:14:04.958 --> 00:14:07.461
And<00:14:05.391> so<00:14:05.857> the<00:14:06.001> content<00:14:06.482> has<00:14:06.900> to<00:14:07.060> be<00:14:07.204> good.
00:14:07.766 --> 00:14:12.084
It,<00:14:07.943> you<00:14:08.023> know,<00:14:08.906> a<00:14:08.922> model<00:14:09.692> with<00:14:09.853> no<00:14:10.094> content<00:14:11.314> doesn't<00:14:11.555> do<00:14:11.731> a<00:14:11.795> thing.
00:14:12.197 --> 00:14:12.758
It<00:14:12.261> does<00:14:12.502> zero.
00:14:13.063 --> 00:14:19.308
So,<00:14:14.187> you<00:14:14.219> know,<00:14:14.348> this<00:14:14.460> is<00:14:14.524> a<00:14:14.605> big<00:14:14.765> focus<00:14:15.166> for<00:14:15.327> us<00:14:15.423> saying<00:14:15.712> you<00:14:15.808> have<00:14:16.210> to<00:14:17.655> connect<00:14:18.056> to<00:14:18.441> all<00:14:18.682> your<00:14:18.778> content.
00:14:19.436 --> 00:14:27.174
If<00:14:19.565> you<00:14:19.645> have<00:14:19.806> it<00:14:19.886> just<00:14:20.127> operate<00:14:20.448> on<00:14:20.544> this<00:14:20.769> little<00:14:20.945> bit<00:14:21.122> or<00:14:21.266> this<00:14:21.491> little<00:14:21.668> bit<00:14:21.844> or<00:14:21.924> this<00:14:22.133> little<00:14:22.310> bit,<00:14:22.551> you're<00:14:22.695> gonna<00:14:23.209> be<00:14:23.353> missing<00:14:24.477> the<00:14:24.878> full<00:14:25.199> value<00:14:25.745> or<00:14:25.922> miss<00:14:26.467> the<00:14:26.548> whole<00:14:26.724> story.
00:14:27.366 --> 00:14:43.863
And<00:14:27.687> if<00:14:27.832> you<00:14:27.864> don't<00:14:28.089> clean,<00:14:28.875> as<00:14:28.972> we<00:14:29.052> were<00:14:29.132> talking<00:14:29.421> about<00:14:29.774> previously,<00:14:30.272> if<00:14:30.336> you<00:14:30.416> don't<00:14:30.673> clean<00:14:31.123> up<00:14:31.299> that<00:14:31.524> data,<00:14:31.781> make<00:14:31.941> sure<00:14:32.102> it's<00:14:32.262> not<00:14:32.423> conflicting,<00:14:33.145> make<00:14:33.306> sure<00:14:33.547> it's,<00:14:34.253> you<00:14:34.285> know,<00:14:34.494> kind<00:14:34.670> of<00:14:35.296> consistent<00:14:36.275> and<00:14:36.355> harmonious<00:14:37.398> and<00:14:38.104> doesn't<00:14:38.344> have<00:14:38.441> holes<00:14:39.082> or<00:14:39.628> things<00:14:39.949> in<00:14:40.109> it,<00:14:40.671> you're<00:14:41.008> gonna<00:14:41.328> get<00:14:42.050> unreliable<00:14:43.478> outputs.
00:14:44.280 --> 00:14:44.537
Right.
00:14:44.762 --> 00:14:45.227
Yeah,<00:14:44.842> yeah,<00:14:45.082> yeah.
00:14:45.275 --> 00:14:54.708
So<00:14:45.339> I<00:14:45.435> think,<00:14:45.836> so<00:14:46.542> yeah,<00:14:46.943> back<00:14:47.168> to<00:14:47.200> your<00:14:47.425> question,<00:14:47.890> I<00:14:48.050> think<00:14:49.815> companies<00:14:50.377> are<00:14:50.649> struggling<00:14:51.195> because<00:14:51.419> they<00:14:51.516> haven't<00:14:51.837> taken<00:14:52.174> that<00:14:52.398> piece<00:14:52.799> of<00:14:52.944> it<00:14:53.698> seriously<00:14:54.387> enough.
00:14:54.949 --> 00:15:00.997
And<00:14:55.527> there's<00:14:55.767> a<00:14:55.831> lot<00:14:55.992> of<00:14:56.024> folks<00:14:56.281> saying,<00:14:56.553> oh<00:14:56.714> wow,<00:14:56.890> we've<00:14:56.970> got<00:14:57.147> a<00:14:57.211> giant<00:14:57.452> data<00:14:57.692> mess,<00:14:57.933> let's<00:14:58.158> just<00:14:58.334> throw<00:14:58.511> AI<00:14:59.040> on<00:14:59.136> top<00:14:59.457> of<00:14:59.601> it<00:15:00.163> and<00:15:00.227> that'll<00:15:00.500> solve<00:15:00.885> it.
00:15:01.687 --> 00:15:02.328
And<00:15:01.767> it<00:15:01.863> doesn't.
00:15:02.664 --> 00:15:03.049
It<00:15:02.809> doesn't.
00:15:03.145 --> 00:15:09.349
You<00:15:03.177> know,<00:15:03.306> garbage<00:15:03.770> in,<00:15:03.867> garbage<00:15:04.331> out<00:15:04.572> has<00:15:04.828> been<00:15:05.149> true<00:15:05.774> of<00:15:06.896> computer<00:15:07.297> science<00:15:08.050> since<00:15:08.339> the<00:15:08.579> very<00:15:08.900> beginning.
00:15:09.717 --> 00:15:18.357
This<00:15:09.813> computer<00:15:10.118> science<00:15:10.503> fundamentally<00:15:11.240> is<00:15:11.464> all<00:15:11.561> about<00:15:12.426> processing<00:15:13.003> data,<00:15:13.308> uh,<00:15:14.109> and<00:15:14.686> performing<00:15:15.424> some<00:15:15.648> kind<00:15:15.953> of<00:15:16.594> calculations<00:15:17.395> on<00:15:17.491> top<00:15:17.812> of<00:15:17.908> data.
00:15:18.838 --> 00:15:20.136
And<00:15:18.918> AI<00:15:19.255> is<00:15:19.335> exactly<00:15:19.736> the<00:15:19.832> same.
00:15:20.232 --> 00:15:27.333
It's<00:15:20.377> not<00:15:20.601> different<00:15:21.162> from<00:15:21.339> everything<00:15:21.723> that's<00:15:21.900> come<00:15:22.060> before<00:15:23.102> at<00:15:23.166> that<00:15:23.406> very<00:15:23.647> high<00:15:23.903> conceptual<00:15:24.528> level,<00:15:25.650> uh,<00:15:25.891> of<00:15:25.987> anything<00:15:26.372> else<00:15:26.548> in<00:15:26.628> computer<00:15:26.949> science.
00:15:27.526 --> 00:15:32.650
And<00:15:27.590> so<00:15:27.750> garbage<00:15:28.135> out<00:15:28.536> Garbage<00:15:28.873> in,<00:15:29.307> garbage<00:15:29.661> out<00:15:30.641> is<00:15:30.786> as<00:15:30.946> true<00:15:31.284> now<00:15:31.830> as<00:15:31.926> it's<00:15:32.151> ever<00:15:32.408> been.
00:15:32.714 --> 00:15:34.755
AI<00:15:33.051> does<00:15:33.437> not<00:15:34.096> change<00:15:34.497> that.
00:15:34.819 --> 00:15:41.246
And<00:15:34.899> in<00:15:34.979> fact,<00:15:35.928> it<00:15:35.960> may<00:15:36.104> be<00:15:36.249> more<00:15:36.570> pernicious<00:15:38.016> because<00:15:38.675> these<00:15:39.222> AI<00:15:39.495> models<00:15:39.961> sound<00:15:40.346> so<00:15:40.684> credible.
00:15:41.407 --> 00:15:48.766
No<00:15:41.503> matter<00:15:42.114> what<00:15:42.596> you<00:15:42.757> feed<00:15:43.094> into<00:15:43.319> them,<00:15:44.540> they<00:15:45.408> come<00:15:45.585> back<00:15:45.971> with<00:15:46.131> a<00:15:46.212> very<00:15:46.533> convincing<00:15:47.192> and<00:15:47.352> very<00:15:47.658> confident<00:15:48.300> answer.
00:15:49.425 --> 00:15:54.021
And<00:15:50.711> you<00:15:50.743> know,<00:15:51.032> you,<00:15:51.354> you<00:15:51.466> may<00:15:51.627> not<00:15:51.932> spot<00:15:52.559> the<00:15:52.655> problem<00:15:53.057> if<00:15:53.137> you<00:15:53.282> look<00:15:53.442> at<00:15:53.539> a<00:15:53.619> chart.
00:15:55.289 --> 00:16:19.867
And<00:15:55.626> you've<00:15:55.786> got<00:15:56.027> spikes<00:15:56.684> or<00:15:56.813> discontinuities<00:15:57.888> in<00:15:57.952> your<00:15:58.176> chart,<00:15:58.497> let's<00:15:58.626> say<00:15:58.818> you're<00:15:58.930> looking<00:15:59.235> at<00:15:59.636> a<00:15:59.781> typical<00:16:00.759> business<00:16:01.080> intelligence<00:16:02.123> dashboard,<00:16:03.471> you<00:16:03.503> say,<00:16:03.872> "Ooh,<00:16:04.193> I<00:16:04.225> see<00:16:04.514> the<00:16:04.594> data<00:16:04.851> is<00:16:05.011> messy,<00:16:05.653> like<00:16:06.198> my<00:16:06.294> chart<00:16:06.615> goes<00:16:06.840> like<00:16:07.016> this<00:16:07.337> and<00:16:07.417> then<00:16:07.562> it<00:16:07.642> goes<00:16:07.819> like<00:16:08.059> this<00:16:08.460> and<00:16:08.541> then<00:16:08.637> it<00:16:08.701> goes<00:16:08.926> like<00:16:09.102> this,<00:16:09.343> like<00:16:09.503> something's<00:16:10.225> going<00:16:10.530> on,<00:16:10.787> it's<00:16:10.947> worth<00:16:11.188> a<00:16:11.268> look."<00:16:11.974> But<00:16:12.134> if<00:16:12.231> you<00:16:12.375> ask<00:16:12.616> an<00:16:12.696> AI<00:16:12.969> model<00:16:13.354> that's<00:16:13.498> sitting<00:16:13.739> on<00:16:13.819> top<00:16:14.092> of<00:16:14.220> really<00:16:14.461> messy<00:16:14.781> content,<00:16:15.616> it<00:16:15.680> comes<00:16:15.921> back<00:16:16.241> with<00:16:16.402> a<00:16:16.707> really<00:16:17.268> good<00:16:17.525> sounding<00:16:18.070> answer<00:16:18.311> because<00:16:18.648> that's<00:16:18.969> what<00:16:19.129> they're<00:16:19.450> all<00:16:19.530> about.
00:16:20.317 --> 00:16:26.744
And<00:16:20.590> it<00:16:20.735> won't<00:16:20.976> be<00:16:21.201> obvious<00:16:21.683> to<00:16:21.843> you<00:16:22.824> that<00:16:23.370> there's<00:16:23.611> something<00:16:24.013> wrong<00:16:24.752> underneath<00:16:25.491> unless<00:16:25.941> you<00:16:26.101> really<00:16:26.359> dig.
00:16:27.082 --> 00:16:35.164
So<00:16:27.419> it's<00:16:27.869> very—<00:16:28.190> that<00:16:28.447> makes<00:16:28.704> it<00:16:28.994> even<00:16:29.556> more<00:16:29.877> important<00:16:30.922> than<00:16:31.484> ever<00:16:32.368> to<00:16:32.464> make<00:16:32.705> sure<00:16:33.107> that<00:16:33.268> what<00:16:33.412> you're<00:16:33.573> feeding<00:16:34.136> into<00:16:34.473> it<00:16:34.634> is<00:16:34.859> clean.
00:16:35.678 --> 00:16:37.381
It's<00:16:35.855> going<00:16:35.951> to<00:16:35.999> be<00:16:36.048> even<00:16:36.224> harder<00:16:36.514> to<00:16:36.562> spot<00:16:37.028> later.
00:16:37.670 --> 00:16:44.451
So<00:16:38.024> just<00:16:38.827> saying,<00:16:39.358> oh,<00:16:39.454> I'll<00:16:39.567> just<00:16:39.759> throw<00:16:40.000> an<00:16:40.081> AI<00:16:40.274> model<00:16:40.659> on<00:16:40.756> top<00:16:40.997> of<00:16:41.141> our<00:16:41.302> mess,<00:16:42.089> we<00:16:42.186> believe<00:16:42.443> is<00:16:42.587> not,<00:16:43.375> not<00:16:43.616> a<00:16:43.632> good<00:16:43.809> solution.
00:16:44.837 --> 00:16:45.865
And<00:16:44.917> no,<00:16:45.062> it<00:16:45.158> just<00:16:45.721> isn't.
00:16:46.683 --> 00:16:49.602
Won't<00:16:47.164> get<00:16:47.469> you<00:16:47.565> very<00:16:47.886> far<00:16:48.528> and<00:16:48.624> you'll<00:16:48.832> run<00:16:48.993> into<00:16:49.169> problems.

We<00:16:59.289> have<00:16:59.353> to<00:16:59.513> check<00:16:59.818> everything<00:17:00.139> and<00:17:00.235> it's<00:17:00.556> more<00:17:00.780> effort<00:17:01.101> than<00:17:01.197> if<00:17:01.277> we'd<00:17:01.438> just<00:17:01.630> done<00:17:01.903> it<00:17:01.983> ourselves.
00:17:02.641 --> 00:17:15.439
And<00:17:03.539> so<00:17:03.843> there's<00:17:04.068> a<00:17:04.164> little<00:17:04.405> bit<00:17:04.886> of<00:17:05.207> that,<00:17:06.955> you<00:17:06.987> know,<00:17:07.532> the<00:17:08.911> trough<00:17:09.312> of<00:17:09.457> disillusionment<00:17:10.515> starting<00:17:11.141> to<00:17:11.718> appear,<00:17:12.183> at<00:17:12.327> least<00:17:12.889> in<00:17:12.985> some<00:17:13.370> ways<00:17:13.771> in<00:17:13.851> that,<00:17:14.268> again,<00:17:14.524> in<00:17:14.653> the<00:17:14.733> hype<00:17:14.973> cycle.
00:17:16.191 --> 00:17:18.757
Because<00:17:16.592> of,<00:17:16.977> because<00:17:17.378> of<00:17:17.458> some<00:17:17.698> of<00:17:17.731> those<00:17:18.035> early<00:17:18.276> findings.
00:17:18.837 --> 00:17:24.930
But<00:17:18.933> it's<00:17:19.142> just<00:17:19.398> a<00:17:19.462> question<00:17:19.895> of<00:17:20.745> using<00:17:21.082> it<00:17:21.178> in<00:17:21.306> the<00:17:21.386> right<00:17:21.627> way<00:17:21.964> and<00:17:22.108> having<00:17:22.364> the<00:17:22.445> right<00:17:22.701> set<00:17:22.861> of<00:17:22.990> expectations<00:17:23.791> like,<00:17:24.048> like<00:17:24.272> anything<00:17:24.673> else.
00:17:25.331 --> 00:17:29.275
What<00:17:25.491> does<00:17:25.651> a<00:17:25.716> typical<00:17:26.132> day<00:17:26.437> look<00:17:26.597> like<00:17:26.854> for<00:17:26.934> you<00:17:28.041> as<00:17:28.137> CEO<00:17:28.682> of<00:17:28.842> BloomFire?
00:17:29.564 --> 00:17:36.218
And<00:17:29.900> as<00:17:30.045> you<00:17:30.285> kind<00:17:30.462> of,<00:17:30.847> you<00:17:30.879> know,<00:17:31.103> and<00:17:31.183> you're<00:17:31.408> still<00:17:31.744> new<00:17:32.065> to<00:17:32.145> the<00:17:32.450> role<00:17:32.706> and<00:17:32.787> all<00:17:32.883> that<00:17:33.027> type<00:17:33.091> of<00:17:33.204> stuff,<00:17:33.428> but<00:17:34.374> give<00:17:34.871> us<00:17:34.967> a<00:17:35.031> sense<00:17:35.224> for<00:17:35.336> what<00:17:35.496> your<00:17:35.625> day<00:17:35.737> looks<00:17:35.977> like.
00:17:36.539 --> 00:17:41.429
It<00:17:36.715> varies<00:17:37.661> a<00:17:37.677> lot<00:17:39.120> depending<00:17:39.681> on,<00:17:40.227> you<00:17:40.307> know,<00:17:40.788> the<00:17:40.820> needs<00:17:41.124> of<00:17:41.189> the<00:17:41.269> day.
00:17:41.926 --> 00:17:43.786
I<00:17:41.990> do—<00:17:42.247> I<00:17:42.407> work<00:17:42.632> from<00:17:42.792> home<00:17:43.049> for<00:17:43.129> the<00:17:43.209> most<00:17:43.449> part.
00:17:44.397 --> 00:17:46.065
Near<00:17:44.637> my<00:17:45.215> office<00:17:45.600> on<00:17:45.632> the<00:17:45.696> ranch.
00:17:46.322 --> 00:17:49.194
I<00:17:46.964> like<00:17:48.408> Jeff<00:17:48.665> Bezos.
00:17:49.627 --> 00:17:56.334
I<00:17:49.788> believe<00:17:50.911> in<00:17:51.055> having<00:17:51.857> a<00:17:52.098> good—<00:17:52.916> getting<00:17:53.157> up<00:17:53.317> early<00:17:53.719> and<00:17:53.799> then<00:17:53.943> having<00:17:54.280> some<00:17:54.521> putter-around<00:17:55.243> time<00:17:55.644> first<00:17:55.869> thing<00:17:55.965> in<00:17:56.029> the<00:17:56.061> morning.
00:17:56.430 --> 00:17:57.329
I<00:17:56.446> don't<00:17:56.591> know<00:17:56.623> if<00:17:56.687> you<00:17:56.767> read<00:17:56.992> that.
00:17:58.035 --> 00:18:01.853
Jeff<00:17:58.596> loves<00:17:58.837> to<00:17:58.949> spend<00:17:59.254> an<00:17:59.479> hour<00:17:59.815> in<00:17:59.896> the<00:17:59.960> morning<00:18:00.281> just<00:18:00.457> puttering<00:18:00.858> around<00:18:01.195> and<00:18:01.324> doing<00:18:01.645> things.
00:18:01.901 --> 00:18:04.067
And<00:18:01.965> I<00:18:02.062> do<00:18:02.222> think<00:18:02.463> that<00:18:02.864> is<00:18:02.960> helpful.
00:18:05.094 --> 00:18:05.848
Get<00:18:05.255> ready<00:18:05.511> for<00:18:05.624> the<00:18:05.752> day.
00:18:06.715 --> 00:18:10.453
I<00:18:07.597> will<00:18:07.838> often<00:18:08.159> just<00:18:08.303> sort<00:18:08.464> of<00:18:08.544> work<00:18:09.105> on<00:18:09.218> a<00:18:09.282> few<00:18:09.747> different<00:18:10.084> things.
00:18:10.501 --> 00:18:12.025
And<00:18:11.191> I<00:18:11.207> love<00:18:11.368> to<00:18:11.432> exercise.
00:18:12.090 --> 00:18:14.482
Exercise,<00:18:13.217> pretty<00:18:13.379> much<00:18:13.606> every<00:18:14.174> morning.
00:18:14.595 --> 00:18:17.935
And<00:18:14.676> so<00:18:14.839> that's<00:18:15.374> an<00:18:15.471> important<00:18:17.108> part<00:18:17.416> of<00:18:17.449> my<00:18:17.676> life.
00:18:18.000 --> 00:18:24.506
And<00:18:18.097> then,<00:18:18.632> you<00:18:18.665> know,<00:18:18.892> my<00:18:19.216> day<00:18:22.123> just<00:18:22.445> will<00:18:22.590> have<00:18:22.783> a<00:18:22.847> variety<00:18:23.475> of<00:18:23.636> different<00:18:23.975> things.
00:18:24.603 --> 00:18:26.004
Obviously,<00:18:25.021> we've<00:18:25.134> got<00:18:25.182> internal<00:18:25.650> meetings.
00:18:26.052 --> 00:18:27.131
I'm<00:18:26.149> talking<00:18:26.455> to<00:18:26.551> customers.
00:18:27.179 --> 00:18:32.440
I'm<00:18:27.276> talking<00:18:27.598> to,<00:18:28.146> you<00:18:28.242> know,<00:18:28.323> folks<00:18:28.645> like<00:18:28.870> industry<00:18:29.273> experts<00:18:29.756> like<00:18:29.852> yourself<00:18:31.620> in<00:18:31.765> different<00:18:32.086> ways.
00:18:32.488 --> 00:18:37.357
I<00:18:32.520> spend<00:18:32.825> a<00:18:32.906> bunch<00:18:33.082> of<00:18:33.147> time<00:18:34.754> thinking,<00:18:35.863> analyzing,<00:18:36.988> reading.
00:18:37.470 --> 00:18:38.739
I<00:18:37.550> think<00:18:37.711> that's<00:18:37.968> very<00:18:38.209> important.
00:18:39.726 --> 00:18:43.792
To<00:18:39.823> be<00:18:39.984> continually<00:18:41.017> curious<00:18:42.001> and<00:18:42.147> trying<00:18:42.356> to<00:18:42.469> absorb<00:18:43.066> new<00:18:43.276> things.
00:18:45.430 --> 00:18:53.756
I've<00:18:45.494> been<00:18:45.559> using,<00:18:45.769> you<00:18:45.850> know,<00:18:45.947> back<00:18:46.206> to<00:18:46.335> the<00:18:46.432> previous<00:18:46.820> question,<00:18:47.160> I<00:18:47.241> do<00:18:47.402> use<00:18:47.709> AI<00:18:47.887> to<00:18:47.984> help<00:18:48.195> me<00:18:48.275> do<00:18:48.437> research,<00:18:49.100> particularly<00:18:49.973> initial,<00:18:50.475> like,<00:18:50.782> oh,<00:18:51.024> go<00:18:51.121> tell<00:18:51.299> me<00:18:51.429> what's<00:18:51.606> going<00:18:51.833> on<00:18:51.995> over<00:18:52.108> here,<00:18:52.334> and<00:18:52.399> then<00:18:52.512> I<00:18:52.641> can<00:18:52.738> dive<00:18:53.062> into<00:18:53.465> things.
00:18:54.256 --> 00:18:56.369
That's<00:18:54.836> very<00:18:55.546> useful<00:18:55.885> for<00:18:56.046> that.
00:18:57.902 --> 00:19:03.511
You<00:18:57.999> know,<00:18:58.047> I<00:18:58.208> live<00:18:58.370> on<00:18:58.466> a<00:18:58.483> ranch,<00:18:59.047> so<00:18:59.209> sometimes<00:18:59.612> I<00:18:59.676> got<00:18:59.789> to<00:18:59.854> go<00:18:59.935> out<00:18:59.983> and<00:19:00.225> feed<00:19:00.386> the<00:19:00.483> horses<00:19:01.193> or,<00:19:01.758> you<00:19:01.854> know,<00:19:02.999> do<00:19:03.170> things.
00:19:03.579 --> 00:19:16.347
And<00:19:03.664> I<00:19:03.920> enjoy<00:19:05.592> I<00:19:05.672> very<00:19:05.849> much<00:19:06.073> enjoy<00:19:06.474> having<00:19:06.730> my<00:19:06.939> day<00:19:07.019> a<00:19:07.115> little<00:19:07.596> bit,<00:19:08.061> uh,<00:19:08.958> can<00:19:09.103> get<00:19:09.183> a<00:19:09.199> little<00:19:09.439> crazy<00:19:09.840> sometimes,<00:19:10.465> but<00:19:10.962> I<00:19:11.026> just,<00:19:11.507> time-wise,<00:19:12.388> but,<00:19:12.709> um,<00:19:13.591> I<00:19:13.607> like,<00:19:14.408> I<00:19:14.488> enjoy<00:19:14.953> having<00:19:15.193> a<00:19:15.354> few<00:19:15.546> different<00:19:16.011> things.
00:19:17.037 --> 00:19:17.197
Yeah.
00:19:17.277 --> 00:19:19.938
Living<00:19:17.534> on<00:19:17.614> a<00:19:17.694> ranch<00:19:18.014> as<00:19:18.095> a<00:19:18.207> CEO<00:19:18.656> is<00:19:18.816> a<00:19:18.896> great<00:19:19.313> escape.
00:19:20.002 --> 00:19:26.397
I<00:19:20.066> mean,<00:19:20.258> you're<00:19:20.403> like<00:19:21.124> in<00:19:21.300> business<00:19:21.589> all<00:19:21.685> the<00:19:21.717> time<00:19:21.941> and<00:19:22.022> then<00:19:22.166> you<00:19:22.246> get<00:19:22.326> to<00:19:22.422> go<00:19:22.663> out<00:19:22.967> in<00:19:23.063> nature,<00:19:23.849> feed<00:19:24.025> the<00:19:24.105> horses,<00:19:25.307> maybe<00:19:25.548> get<00:19:25.692> some<00:19:25.868> fly<00:19:26.109> fishing<00:19:26.349> in.
00:19:26.574 --> 00:19:27.567
I<00:19:26.622> don't<00:19:26.750> know<00:19:26.814> if<00:19:26.910> you<00:19:27.055> fly<00:19:27.295> fish.
00:19:27.856 --> 00:19:28.930
You<00:19:27.888> should,<00:19:28.289> if<00:19:28.417> you're<00:19:28.577> in<00:19:28.657> Montana.
00:19:28.994 --> 00:19:29.315
We<00:19:29.154> do.
00:19:29.475 --> 00:19:33.145
I<00:19:29.555> fly<00:19:29.876> fish<00:19:30.180> and<00:19:30.260> we've<00:19:30.421> got<00:19:30.597> a<00:19:30.661> beautiful<00:19:31.062> trout<00:19:31.238> stream<00:19:31.559> just<00:19:31.799> right,<00:19:32.200> right<00:19:32.424> next<00:19:32.584> to<00:19:32.697> the<00:19:32.905> house.
00:19:33.547 --> 00:19:39.619
I<00:19:33.868> can<00:19:34.270> very<00:19:34.687> easily<00:19:35.089> grab<00:19:35.394> my<00:19:35.555> rod,<00:19:35.892> jump<00:19:36.197> out<00:19:36.374> there,<00:19:36.695> you<00:19:37.338> know,<00:19:37.499> fish<00:19:37.820> for<00:19:37.964> 20<00:19:38.157> minutes<00:19:38.944> and<00:19:39.089> come<00:19:39.250> back<00:19:39.571> in.
00:19:39.731 --> 00:19:40.840
That's<00:19:39.908> a<00:19:40.053> doable<00:19:40.470> thing.
00:19:41.258 --> 00:19:42.173
That's<00:19:41.579> so<00:19:41.836> awesome.
00:19:42.703 --> 00:19:42.896
Yeah.
00:19:43.105 --> 00:19:44.422
You<00:19:43.282> have<00:19:43.442> the<00:19:43.523> perfect<00:19:43.860> setup<00:19:44.229> for<00:19:44.310> that.
00:19:44.486 --> 00:19:50.719
Give<00:19:44.647> us<00:19:44.808> a<00:19:44.872> sense<00:19:45.129> for<00:19:45.274> Montana,<00:19:45.932> how<00:19:46.253> it's<00:19:46.960> grown<00:19:47.282> as<00:19:47.378> a<00:19:47.458> tech<00:19:47.715> ecosystem,<00:19:48.711> how<00:19:48.840> it's<00:19:49.049> growing<00:19:49.322> as<00:19:49.466> a<00:19:49.482> state<00:19:49.964> just<00:19:50.189> in<00:19:50.269> general.
00:19:50.912 --> 00:19:52.293
And<00:19:51.699> where<00:19:52.020> is<00:19:52.261> it?
00:19:52.358 --> 00:19:56.759
I<00:19:52.374> mean,<00:19:52.663> I<00:19:52.840> don't<00:19:53.016> think<00:19:53.161> a<00:19:53.241> lot<00:19:53.402> of<00:19:53.466> people<00:19:53.707> think<00:19:53.900> of<00:19:53.980> like<00:19:54.205> Montana<00:19:54.751> tech<00:19:54.928> hub<00:19:55.394> and<00:19:55.571> you<00:19:55.715> probably<00:19:56.069> don't<00:19:56.277> want<00:19:56.470> them<00:19:56.615> to.
00:19:57.321 --> 00:19:57.562
Right.
00:19:57.675 --> 00:19:59.570
It's<00:19:58.687> a<00:19:58.719> two-edged<00:19:59.185> sword.
00:19:59.731 --> 00:20:07.172
And<00:19:59.908> so<00:20:02.154> the<00:20:02.234> tech<00:20:02.539> ecosystem<00:20:03.036> in<00:20:03.100> Montana<00:20:03.677> is<00:20:03.821> very<00:20:04.174> much<00:20:04.414> alive<00:20:04.703> and<00:20:04.879> well<00:20:05.120> and<00:20:05.264> it's<00:20:05.520> been<00:20:05.681> growing,<00:20:06.306> growing<00:20:06.643> fast.
00:20:07.588 --> 00:20:17.063
And<00:20:08.470> as<00:20:08.566> you<00:20:08.662> know,<00:20:08.951> Clint,<00:20:09.352> I'm<00:20:09.993> the<00:20:10.089> chair<00:20:10.714> of<00:20:10.827> our<00:20:11.452> main<00:20:12.398> nonprofit<00:20:13.600> for<00:20:14.257> encouraging<00:20:14.979> tech<00:20:15.219> industry<00:20:16.261> in<00:20:16.341> Montana.
00:20:17.319 --> 00:20:19.034
I've<00:20:17.543> been<00:20:17.704> on<00:20:18.089> that<00:20:18.345> board<00:20:18.569> for<00:20:18.746> years.
00:20:19.627 --> 00:20:24.677
Yet<00:20:20.189> another<00:20:20.509> thing<00:20:20.734> I<00:20:20.830> do,<00:20:21.375> and<00:20:21.792> I'm<00:20:22.337> currently<00:20:22.673> chair,<00:20:23.010> it's<00:20:23.539> called<00:20:23.699> Scaling<00:20:24.116> Montana.
00:20:25.944 --> 00:20:36.120
And<00:20:26.280> we<00:20:28.469> We<00:20:29.035> encourage,<00:20:29.860> we<00:20:30.022> engage,<00:20:30.653> encourage,<00:20:31.235> educate,<00:20:31.704> and<00:20:31.801> connect<00:20:33.014> basically<00:20:33.500> people<00:20:33.888> in<00:20:34.309> the<00:20:34.389> tech<00:20:34.713> industry<00:20:35.926> here.
00:20:36.250 --> 00:20:38.106
And<00:20:36.347> we<00:20:36.428> do<00:20:36.638> a<00:20:36.735> variety<00:20:37.285> of<00:20:37.350> different<00:20:37.623> things.
00:20:38.428 --> 00:20:52.234
We<00:20:38.509> have<00:20:38.670> a<00:20:38.895> monthly<00:20:39.169> speaker<00:20:39.636> series,<00:20:40.200> we<00:20:40.344> do<00:20:40.441> an<00:20:40.602> annual<00:20:40.924> summit,<00:20:41.649> we<00:20:41.810> do<00:20:42.937> mentorship<00:20:43.967> for<00:20:44.225> startups,<00:20:44.950> Montana-based<00:20:45.626> startups,<00:20:46.238> and<00:20:46.318> we<00:20:46.399> do<00:20:46.624> a<00:20:46.640> lot<00:20:46.866> of<00:20:46.962> connecting<00:20:47.541> of<00:20:47.685> different<00:20:48.473> people<00:20:48.891> and<00:20:49.035> resources<00:20:50.578> around<00:20:51.687> the<00:20:51.720> state.
00:20:52.748 --> 00:20:57.031
And,<00:20:52.909> you<00:20:52.989> know,<00:20:53.230> we<00:20:53.311> have<00:20:53.455> a<00:20:53.552> mix<00:20:53.938> here<00:20:54.452> of<00:20:54.918> a<00:20:54.998> bunch<00:20:55.239> of<00:20:55.272> startups,<00:20:56.212> earlier<00:20:56.549> stage.
00:20:57.095 --> 00:21:00.114
Some<00:20:57.256> of<00:20:57.320> them<00:20:57.497> are<00:20:57.577> starting<00:20:57.978> to<00:20:58.059> get,<00:20:58.605> you<00:20:58.701> know,<00:20:58.861> pretty<00:20:59.423> further<00:20:59.729> along.
00:21:00.226 --> 00:21:05.734
A<00:21:00.291> few,<00:21:00.788> a<00:21:00.869> few<00:21:01.174> really<00:21:01.511> great<00:21:01.848> success<00:21:02.378> stories<00:21:02.812> of<00:21:02.940> Montana-based<00:21:04.803> technology<00:21:05.349> companies.
00:21:05.847 --> 00:21:08.817
And<00:21:05.911> then<00:21:06.168> larger<00:21:06.569> companies<00:21:06.987> increasingly<00:21:07.613> have<00:21:07.854> a<00:21:08.014> presence<00:21:08.480> here.
00:21:09.299 --> 00:21:18.324
So<00:21:10.086> when<00:21:10.182> I<00:21:10.327> first<00:21:10.664> moved<00:21:10.905> back<00:21:11.162> to<00:21:11.290> Montana<00:21:11.788> 3.5<00:21:12.334> years<00:21:12.527> ago,<00:21:12.752> I<00:21:12.800> was<00:21:12.976> working<00:21:13.298> for<00:21:13.394> Google<00:21:14.197> at<00:21:14.293> the<00:21:14.422> time,<00:21:15.786> and<00:21:15.883> I<00:21:15.963> was<00:21:16.108> working<00:21:17.071> here<00:21:17.312> remotely<00:21:17.890> for<00:21:18.051> Google.
00:21:18.372 --> 00:21:27.812
And<00:21:18.532> all<00:21:18.934> the<00:21:19.078> major<00:21:19.400> tech<00:21:19.560> companies<00:21:20.042> have<00:21:20.764> some<00:21:21.086> presence<00:21:22.290> either<00:21:22.467> with<00:21:22.627> an<00:21:22.788> office<00:21:23.173> or<00:21:23.430> a<00:21:23.896> handful<00:21:24.313> of,<00:21:24.634> or<00:21:25.598> more<00:21:25.839> than<00:21:25.983> a<00:21:26.064> handful<00:21:26.481> of<00:21:27.042> remote<00:21:27.379> employees.
00:21:28.164 --> 00:21:31.178
So<00:21:28.565> increasingly<00:21:29.351> we're<00:21:30.264> seeing<00:21:30.569> this<00:21:30.793> presence.
00:21:31.370 --> 00:21:39.097
And<00:21:32.252> the<00:21:32.396> great<00:21:32.669> thing<00:21:32.893> about<00:21:33.278> that<00:21:33.695> is<00:21:33.935> like<00:21:34.176> any<00:21:34.496> ecosystem,<00:21:35.378> it's<00:21:35.699> that<00:21:36.901> set<00:21:37.221> of<00:21:37.302> connections<00:21:38.103> between<00:21:38.504> all<00:21:38.664> the<00:21:38.744> people.
00:21:39.546 --> 00:21:45.589
And<00:21:39.706> you<00:21:39.850> meet<00:21:40.187> like-minded<00:21:40.828> people<00:21:41.229> in<00:21:41.261> the<00:21:41.469> bar<00:21:41.710> or<00:21:42.255> there's<00:21:42.431> a<00:21:42.592> meetup<00:21:43.313> or<00:21:43.377> there's<00:21:44.114> a<00:21:44.195> conference<00:21:44.932> or<00:21:45.076> whatever.
00:21:45.878 --> 00:21:55.352
And<00:21:46.856> when<00:21:47.064> you<00:21:47.160> share<00:21:48.603> ideas,<00:21:49.308> you<00:21:49.485> collaborate,<00:21:50.510> you<00:21:50.847> encourage<00:21:51.552> each<00:21:51.793> other,<00:21:52.354> you<00:21:52.594> egg<00:21:52.787> each<00:21:53.011> other<00:21:53.396> on,<00:21:53.588> so<00:21:53.797> to<00:21:53.877> speak,<00:21:54.229> you<00:21:54.278> inspire<00:21:54.774> each<00:21:55.079> other.
00:21:55.640 --> 00:21:58.429
And<00:21:56.442> all<00:21:56.618> of<00:21:56.698> that<00:21:57.003> is<00:21:57.179> really<00:21:57.500> good<00:21:57.740> for<00:21:57.884> the<00:21:57.981> tech<00:21:58.125> ecosystem.
00:21:58.510 --> 00:21:58.718
Systems.
00:21:58.766 --> 00:21:59.615
So<00:21:58.798> we're<00:21:59.006> seeing<00:21:59.343> that.
00:21:59.808 --> 00:22:04.439
I<00:21:59.904> would<00:22:00.048> say<00:22:00.929> it's<00:22:01.346> early-ish<00:22:02.227> days<00:22:02.852> in<00:22:02.932> Montana,<00:22:03.445> but<00:22:03.541> not<00:22:03.766> super<00:22:04.230> early.
00:22:04.711 --> 00:22:05.993
We're,<00:22:05.112> we're<00:22:05.352> getting<00:22:05.673> there.
00:22:06.233 --> 00:22:08.830
And<00:22:06.298> we<00:22:06.378> have<00:22:06.474> a<00:22:06.554> couple<00:22:06.939> of—<00:22:07.195> we've<00:22:07.580> got<00:22:07.740> a<00:22:07.756> lot<00:22:07.980> of<00:22:08.012> software<00:22:08.557> here.
00:22:09.358 --> 00:22:14.278
We<00:22:09.503> also<00:22:09.839> have<00:22:10.224> a<00:22:10.400> very<00:22:10.736> strong<00:22:11.506> focus<00:22:11.986> on<00:22:12.083> photonics<00:22:13.044> and<00:22:13.188> quantum<00:22:13.605> computing<00:22:14.150> here.
00:22:14.406 --> 00:22:18.188
We<00:22:14.502> have<00:22:14.647> one<00:22:14.807> of<00:22:14.887> only<00:22:15.191> two<00:22:15.384> test—<00:22:15.688> quantum—<00:22:16.489> full<00:22:16.794> quantum<00:22:17.130> testbeds<00:22:17.675> in<00:22:17.755> the<00:22:17.835> country.
00:22:18.252 --> 00:22:19.246
One<00:22:18.396> of<00:22:18.428> them<00:22:18.573> is<00:22:18.717> located<00:22:19.117> here.
00:22:19.518 --> 00:22:24.117
A<00:22:19.951> lot<00:22:20.175> of<00:22:20.255> that<00:22:20.736> is<00:22:20.880> coming<00:22:21.201> out<00:22:21.441> of<00:22:22.002> work<00:22:22.258> being<00:22:22.483> done<00:22:22.723> at<00:22:22.915> Montana<00:22:23.300> State<00:22:23.604> University.
00:22:25.048 --> 00:22:35.925
Where<00:22:25.529> there's<00:22:25.769> a<00:22:25.786> lot<00:22:26.026> of<00:22:26.251> really<00:22:26.507> neat,<00:22:27.149> particularly<00:22:27.550> in<00:22:27.647> material<00:22:28.176> sciences<00:22:29.139> and<00:22:29.459> physics<00:22:30.117> and<00:22:30.197> a<00:22:30.262> lot<00:22:30.454> of<00:22:30.518> that<00:22:31.465> more<00:22:31.946> hardware-oriented,<00:22:33.085> but<00:22:33.567> obviously<00:22:33.823> it<00:22:33.952> has<00:22:34.128> a<00:22:34.192> huge<00:22:34.433> impact<00:22:34.914> on<00:22:35.267> software.
00:22:36.599 --> 00:22:39.455
So<00:22:36.775> there's<00:22:36.936> some<00:22:37.176> neat,<00:22:37.577> there's<00:22:37.850> some<00:22:37.979> really,<00:22:38.540> really<00:22:38.797> neat<00:22:39.037> stuff.
00:22:40.048 --> 00:22:43.690
To<00:22:40.305> your<00:22:40.610> question<00:22:40.931> about,<00:22:41.412> yeah,<00:22:42.214> do<00:22:42.294> we<00:22:42.455> want<00:22:42.599> to<00:22:42.631> encourage<00:22:43.112> it<00:22:43.273> or<00:22:43.337> not?

We<00:22:43.850> certainly<00:22:44.219> want<00:22:44.364> to<00:22:44.460> encourage<00:22:45.118> economic<00:22:45.679> growth<00:22:46.000> in<00:22:46.081> the<00:22:46.161> state.

It's,<00:23:23.819> you<00:23:23.964> know,<00:23:24.303> I<00:23:24.449> think<00:23:24.869> it's<00:23:25.176> a—<00:23:25.983> we've,<00:23:26.484> we've<00:23:26.646> been<00:23:26.807> a<00:23:26.888> growing<00:23:27.308> state,<00:23:27.758> obviously,<00:23:28.256> from<00:23:28.481> day<00:23:28.722> one,<00:23:29.381> as,<00:23:29.766> you<00:23:29.847> know,<00:23:30.088> the<00:23:30.168> whole<00:23:30.409> West,<00:23:31.389> the<00:23:31.534> whole<00:23:31.711> country<00:23:32.193> has<00:23:32.354> been.

And<00:23:33.575> that<00:23:33.800> continues.
00:23:34.427 --> 00:23:36.419
And<00:23:34.507> it<00:23:34.539> seems<00:23:34.828> to<00:23:34.925> be,<00:23:35.262> it<00:23:35.326> seems<00:23:35.567> to<00:23:35.664> be<00:23:35.809> fairly<00:23:36.275> healthy.
00:23:37.493 --> 00:23:46.828
And<00:23:37.574> people<00:23:37.896> bring<00:23:39.426> what<00:23:39.652> I—<00:23:41.359> people<00:23:41.746> bring,<00:23:42.487> you<00:23:42.632> know,<00:23:42.890> different<00:23:43.212> ideas,<00:23:43.695> different<00:23:43.920> experiences,<00:23:44.903> that<00:23:45.129> sort<00:23:45.306> of<00:23:45.386> diversity<00:23:46.047> of<00:23:46.160> perspective,<00:23:46.348> etc.,<00:23:46.622> which<00:23:46.708> is<00:23:46.742> good.
00:23:46.880 --> 00:23:47.274
And<00:23:46.931> that's<00:23:47.137> healthy.
00:23:48.937 --> 00:23:50.898
For<00:23:49.050> the<00:23:49.194> community<00:23:49.998> and<00:23:50.078> the<00:23:50.142> ecosystem.
00:23:51.444 --> 00:24:09.778
But<00:23:51.605> I<00:23:51.685> also<00:23:52.006> find<00:23:52.794> very<00:23:53.115> encouragingly<00:23:53.951> that<00:23:54.160> people<00:23:54.433> who<00:23:54.642> move<00:23:54.883> here<00:23:55.204> from<00:23:55.381> other<00:23:55.542> states<00:23:56.409> want<00:23:56.602> to<00:23:56.747> be<00:23:56.907> Montanans<00:23:58.514> and<00:23:58.579> they<00:23:58.980> want<00:23:59.221> to<00:23:59.318> fit<00:23:59.639> in<00:24:00.185> and<00:24:00.507> they<00:24:00.603> want<00:24:00.989> the,<00:24:01.246> the<00:24:01.342> sort<00:24:01.632> of<00:24:02.756> the<00:24:02.869> geniality<00:24:04.363> of,<00:24:05.086> you<00:24:05.119> know,<00:24:05.343> Montanans<00:24:06.083> are<00:24:06.227> just<00:24:06.388> very<00:24:06.709> nice<00:24:07.191> and<00:24:07.352> polite,<00:24:07.754> a<00:24:07.818> little<00:24:08.011> soft-spoken,<00:24:08.943> but<00:24:09.104> very<00:24:09.280> polite.
00:24:09.907 --> 00:24:24.077
And,<00:24:11.434> and,<00:24:11.835> and<00:24:12.157> I<00:24:12.189> find<00:24:12.494> people<00:24:12.896> even<00:24:13.137> when<00:24:13.281> they<00:24:13.378> come<00:24:13.603> from<00:24:13.780> rather<00:24:14.467> from,<00:24:14.487> let's<00:24:14.615> say,<00:24:14.744> more<00:24:14.985> brusque<00:24:15.579> parts<00:24:16.366> of<00:24:16.430> the<00:24:16.511> country<00:24:17.153> come<00:24:17.378> here<00:24:17.571> and<00:24:17.715> just<00:24:17.956> like,<00:24:18.197> they<00:24:18.342> want<00:24:18.422> to<00:24:18.583> be,<00:24:18.679> you<00:24:18.760> know,<00:24:18.969> everyone<00:24:19.161> waves<00:24:19.467> to<00:24:19.579> each<00:24:19.724> other<00:24:20.029> on<00:24:20.109> the<00:24:20.206> street<00:24:20.928> and,<00:24:21.394> and<00:24:21.587> people<00:24:22.679> are<00:24:22.776> generally<00:24:23.258> quite<00:24:23.740> polite.

00:24:52.249 --> 00:24:57.291
How<00:24:52.329> do<00:24:52.426> you<00:24:52.570> think<00:24:52.795> about<00:24:53.277> culture<00:24:53.999> and<00:24:54.160> maintaining<00:24:54.657> culture,<00:24:55.059> particularly<00:24:55.476> as<00:24:55.846> most<00:24:56.087> days<00:24:56.327> you're<00:24:56.648> working<00:24:56.986> remote?

00:25:08.784 --> 00:25:12.261
Have<00:25:08.944> been<00:25:09.168> remote<00:25:09.505> for<00:25:09.649> a<00:25:09.665> number<00:25:09.921> of<00:25:10.066> years<00:25:11.251> and<00:25:11.491> it<00:25:11.572> works<00:25:11.828> very<00:25:12.132> well.

I<00:25:20.400> was<00:25:20.640> very,<00:25:21.025> for<00:25:21.201> years<00:25:21.441> and<00:25:21.521> years,<00:25:21.842> I<00:25:21.922> was<00:25:22.082> very<00:25:22.258> much<00:25:22.499> an<00:25:22.787> in-office<00:25:23.364> person<00:25:24.485> and<00:25:24.629> I<00:25:25.270> wanted<00:25:25.511> people<00:25:25.783> in<00:25:25.815> the<00:25:25.911> office.
00:25:26.248 --> 00:25:33.938
I<00:25:26.392> believed<00:25:26.969> being<00:25:27.289> up<00:25:27.433> to<00:25:27.706> next<00:25:28.635> to<00:25:28.715> each<00:25:28.811> other<00:25:28.955> in<00:25:29.052> front<00:25:29.180> of<00:25:29.212> the<00:25:29.292> whiteboard<00:25:29.933> or<00:25:29.997> having<00:25:30.269> those<00:25:30.478> flyby<00:25:30.878> conversations<00:25:31.455> in<00:25:31.679> the<00:25:31.919> hallway<00:25:32.176> or<00:25:32.336> the<00:25:32.801> micro<00:25:33.121> kitchen<00:25:33.474> or<00:25:33.538> whatever.
00:25:34.723 --> 00:25:36.229
And<00:25:35.060> I<00:25:35.156> still<00:25:35.460> believe<00:25:35.765> in<00:25:35.845> all<00:25:36.005> that.
00:25:36.748 --> 00:25:44.405
But<00:25:37.248> I<00:25:37.312> think<00:25:38.134> when<00:25:38.360> COVID<00:25:38.860> happened<00:25:39.343> and<00:25:39.505> all<00:25:39.666> of<00:25:39.811> us—<00:25:40.246> and<00:25:40.375> I<00:25:40.391> was<00:25:40.552> running<00:25:40.778> my<00:25:40.939> fourth<00:25:41.262> startup<00:25:41.761> at<00:25:41.842> that<00:25:42.084> time—<00:25:43.115> all<00:25:43.212> of<00:25:43.309> us<00:25:43.454> had<00:25:43.615> to<00:25:43.760> go<00:25:43.938> home.
00:25:46.068 --> 00:25:51.994
It<00:25:47.134> opened<00:25:47.537> my<00:25:48.022> eyes<00:25:48.183> to,<00:25:48.813> oh,<00:25:49.136> actually,<00:25:49.556> this<00:25:49.798> can<00:25:50.201> work<00:25:50.670> if<00:25:50.750> you're<00:25:50.912> intentional<00:25:51.558> about<00:25:51.897> it.
00:25:52.123 --> 00:25:55.689
And<00:25:52.623> of<00:25:52.769> course,<00:25:53.027> what<00:25:53.189> COVID<00:25:53.576> did<00:25:53.834> that<00:25:53.996> made<00:25:54.222> this<00:25:54.400> work<00:25:54.642> is<00:25:54.948> everyone<00:25:55.367> was<00:25:55.512> home.
00:25:56.092 --> 00:25:58.621
Not<00:25:56.510> some<00:25:56.736> people<00:25:57.042> were<00:25:57.155> home<00:25:57.445> and<00:25:57.686> most<00:25:57.928> people<00:25:58.186> in<00:25:58.266> the<00:25:58.427> office.
00:25:58.669 --> 00:25:59.329
That's<00:25:58.895> harder.
00:25:59.636 --> 00:26:03.260
But<00:25:59.732> when<00:26:00.022> everyone<00:26:00.441> is<00:26:00.586> home,<00:26:00.763> we<00:26:00.908> all<00:26:01.085> kind<00:26:01.311> of<00:26:01.488> as<00:26:01.585> a<00:26:01.665> society<00:26:02.374> got<00:26:02.600> to<00:26:02.696> practice<00:26:03.196> it.
00:26:04.006 --> 00:26:09.801
At<00:26:04.071> the<00:26:04.151> same<00:26:04.490> time,<00:26:05.539> we<00:26:05.620> figured<00:26:05.927> out<00:26:06.169> actually<00:26:07.702> it<00:26:07.799> works<00:26:08.300> and<00:26:08.429> people<00:26:08.671> can<00:26:08.768> be<00:26:08.849> very<00:26:09.155> productive.
00:26:10.043 --> 00:26:12.158
We've<00:26:10.543> seen<00:26:10.931> a<00:26:10.947> lot<00:26:11.108> of<00:26:11.173> stats<00:26:11.593> around<00:26:11.899> that.
00:26:13.362 --> 00:26:15.935
And<00:26:13.686> there<00:26:13.847> are<00:26:14.559> a<00:26:14.818> lot<00:26:15.045> of<00:26:15.077> benefits<00:26:15.546> to<00:26:15.773> it.
00:26:16.420 --> 00:26:24.110
Now,<00:26:17.634> you<00:26:17.731> bring<00:26:18.864> a<00:26:19.090> very<00:26:19.414> good<00:26:20.158> point<00:26:20.886> to<00:26:20.984> the<00:26:21.113> table<00:26:21.776> about<00:26:22.328> culture,<00:26:22.840> maintaining<00:26:23.318> company<00:26:23.648> culture.
00:26:26.147 --> 00:26:32.425
I<00:26:26.807> think<00:26:27.998> one,<00:26:28.417> interestingly,<00:26:29.367> we've<00:26:29.560> had<00:26:29.769> video<00:26:30.107> conferencing<00:26:30.751> for<00:26:30.896> a<00:26:30.912> long<00:26:31.089> time,<00:26:31.266> but<00:26:31.330> it<00:26:31.475> wasn't<00:26:31.797> much<00:26:32.039> used.
00:26:32.958 --> 00:26:39.834
As<00:26:33.038> you<00:26:33.183> probably<00:26:33.503> know,<00:26:33.727> before,<00:26:34.849> right<00:26:35.026> before<00:26:35.426> COVID<00:26:35.827> it<00:26:35.891> was<00:26:36.051> around<00:26:36.933> and<00:26:37.013> we<00:26:37.173> had<00:26:37.286> Cisco<00:26:37.911> and,<00:26:38.135> you<00:26:38.167> know,<00:26:38.792> a<00:26:38.856> few<00:26:39.097> things<00:26:39.417> for<00:26:39.513> video.
00:26:39.978 --> 00:26:43.168
They<00:26:40.299> mostly<00:26:41.116> like<00:26:41.276> we'd<00:26:41.437> meet<00:26:41.597> in<00:26:41.677> person<00:26:42.062> or<00:26:42.094> we'd<00:26:42.462> talk<00:26:42.719> on<00:26:42.783> the<00:26:42.879> phone.
00:26:43.761 --> 00:26:50.572
And<00:26:43.985> even<00:26:44.145> though<00:26:44.322> I<00:26:44.546> had,<00:26:44.802> you<00:26:44.899> know,<00:26:45.043> when<00:26:45.187> I<00:26:45.203> was<00:26:45.347> at<00:26:45.443> Thomson<00:26:45.764> Reuters,<00:26:46.369> I<00:26:46.389> was<00:26:46.662> managing<00:26:47.126> a<00:26:47.190> team<00:26:47.447> of<00:26:47.479> 6,000<00:26:48.232> people<00:26:48.809> and<00:26:48.889> they<00:26:48.969> were<00:26:49.130> scattered<00:26:49.755> all<00:26:50.011> over<00:26:50.188> the<00:26:50.332> world.
00:26:51.293 --> 00:26:52.367
They<00:26:51.438> were<00:26:51.518> all<00:26:51.694> in<00:26:51.919> offices.
00:26:52.415 --> 00:26:55.717
So<00:26:52.640> we<00:26:52.720> didn't<00:26:52.880> really<00:26:53.056> think<00:26:53.281> about<00:26:53.633> it,<00:26:53.938> but<00:26:54.499> it<00:26:54.579> was<00:26:54.739> highly<00:26:55.220> distributed.
00:26:55.765 --> 00:27:01.535
I'm<00:26:55.861> not<00:26:56.022> sure<00:26:56.326> what<00:26:57.047> having<00:26:57.304> 3<00:26:57.544> people<00:26:57.865> in<00:26:58.009> an<00:26:58.089> office<00:26:58.570> out<00:26:58.682> of<00:26:58.826> a<00:26:58.906> huge<00:26:59.163> team<00:26:59.387> like<00:26:59.548> that<00:26:59.948> is<00:27:00.173> versus<00:27:00.653> working<00:27:00.974> from<00:27:01.134> home.
00:27:02.352 --> 00:27:04.996
Looking<00:27:02.673> back,<00:27:03.057> I<00:27:03.089> now<00:27:03.249> think<00:27:03.474> that's<00:27:03.634> kind<00:27:03.810> of<00:27:03.874> an<00:27:04.018> academic<00:27:04.531> difference.
00:27:05.188 --> 00:27:20.023
So<00:27:06.357> I<00:27:06.437> think<00:27:06.678> we<00:27:07.399> were<00:27:08.103> operating<00:27:08.744> more,<00:27:09.177> certainly<00:27:09.481> in<00:27:09.641> larger<00:27:10.042> firms,<00:27:10.763> like<00:27:10.939> Thomson<00:27:11.308> Reuters,<00:27:11.548> we<00:27:11.628> were<00:27:11.868> operating<00:27:12.221> a<00:27:12.349> more<00:27:12.525> distributed<00:27:14.047> kind<00:27:14.351> of<00:27:15.329> work<00:27:15.585> style<00:27:16.530> than<00:27:16.690> we<00:27:16.915> realized<00:27:18.757> already.
00:27:20.135 --> 00:27:23.820
And<00:27:20.279> so<00:27:20.519> we<00:27:20.599> were<00:27:20.696> maybe<00:27:20.952> a<00:27:21.000> little<00:27:21.240> more<00:27:21.400> practiced<00:27:22.121> for<00:27:22.282> work<00:27:22.522> from<00:27:22.682> home<00:27:23.099> than<00:27:23.243> we<00:27:23.339> thought.
00:27:24.605 --> 00:27:28.770
But<00:27:24.861> interestingly,<00:27:25.486> you<00:27:25.518> know,<00:27:25.662> we<00:27:25.806> had<00:27:25.982> VC<00:27:26.383> capabilities,<00:27:27.024> we<00:27:27.168> used<00:27:27.408> them,<00:27:27.568> but<00:27:27.648> not<00:27:28.065> that<00:27:28.466> much.
00:27:28.850 --> 00:27:36.446
Mostly<00:27:29.106> people<00:27:29.491> met<00:27:29.683> in<00:27:29.827> person<00:27:30.148> or<00:27:30.452> talked<00:27:30.772> on<00:27:30.804> the<00:27:30.933> phone,<00:27:32.054> and<00:27:32.230> COVID<00:27:32.535> just<00:27:32.775> made<00:27:33.015> it<00:27:33.512> Immediately,<00:27:34.137> okay,<00:27:34.490> now<00:27:34.698> everyone's<00:27:35.035> going<00:27:35.147> to<00:27:35.259> use<00:27:35.596> video<00:27:35.901> conferencing.
00:27:36.959 --> 00:27:38.770
And<00:27:37.039> I<00:27:37.199> think<00:27:38.065> that<00:27:38.161> was<00:27:38.305> a<00:27:38.337> good<00:27:38.498> thing.
00:27:39.203 --> 00:27:44.108
And<00:27:39.299> I<00:27:39.443> think<00:27:39.764> we've<00:27:41.832> learned<00:27:42.489> how<00:27:42.890> to<00:27:43.130> connect<00:27:43.611> with<00:27:43.771> each<00:27:43.932> other.
00:27:44.156 --> 00:27:54.111
And<00:27:44.252> video<00:27:44.493> conferencing<00:27:45.118> obviously<00:27:46.096> brings<00:27:46.400> in<00:27:47.843> higher<00:27:48.420> bandwidth<00:27:48.885> communication,<00:27:49.542> not<00:27:49.799> as<00:27:49.943> high,<00:27:50.200> you<00:27:50.264> know,<00:27:50.424> if<00:27:50.568> we're<00:27:50.969> in<00:27:51.065> person,<00:27:51.466> we<00:27:51.562> have<00:27:51.690> the<00:27:51.771> highest<00:27:52.267> bandwidth<00:27:52.893> communication,<00:27:53.630> so<00:27:53.726> to<00:27:53.806> speak.
00:27:54.191 --> 00:27:56.692
We<00:27:54.335> can<00:27:54.496> hear,<00:27:54.832> we<00:27:54.993> can<00:27:55.137> see,<00:27:55.538> we<00:27:55.698> can<00:27:55.794> get<00:27:55.954> a<00:27:55.970> sense<00:27:56.339> for<00:27:56.435> people.
00:27:57.301 --> 00:28:04.915
On<00:27:57.397> video<00:27:57.638> conferencing,<00:27:58.118> we<00:27:58.263> can<00:27:58.375> hear<00:27:58.519> and<00:27:58.679> we<00:27:58.824> can<00:27:58.984> see<00:27:59.160> people,<00:27:59.465> at<00:27:59.497> least<00:27:59.721> to<00:27:59.962> an<00:28:00.042> extent,<00:28:00.363> a<00:28:00.379> little<00:28:00.747> bit<00:28:00.844> flattened,<00:28:01.405> but<00:28:01.549> still<00:28:02.431> we<00:28:02.511> can<00:28:02.623> see<00:28:02.847> people<00:28:03.152> and<00:28:03.489> we<00:28:03.633> can<00:28:03.889> pick<00:28:04.034> up<00:28:04.130> their<00:28:04.290> body<00:28:04.595> language.
00:28:05.237 --> 00:28:09.167
And<00:28:05.494> I<00:28:05.655> think,<00:28:06.525> you<00:28:06.557> know,<00:28:06.767> we've<00:28:07.508> versus<00:28:07.749> the<00:28:07.830> phone,<00:28:08.216> all<00:28:08.313> we<00:28:08.393> can<00:28:08.506> do<00:28:08.635> is<00:28:08.780> hear<00:28:08.973> them.
00:28:09.440 --> 00:28:11.019
We<00:28:09.521> don't<00:28:09.682> know,<00:28:09.907> are<00:28:10.085> they<00:28:10.230> rolling<00:28:10.552> their<00:28:10.713> eyes?
00:28:11.132 --> 00:28:12.839
Are<00:28:11.212> they,<00:28:11.518> you<00:28:11.615> know,<00:28:12.178> drifting<00:28:12.646> off?
00:28:12.903 --> 00:28:13.918
Are<00:28:12.984> they<00:28:13.306> multitasking?
00:28:13.966 --> 00:28:14.353
I<00:28:13.982> don't<00:28:14.160> know.
00:28:15.242 --> 00:28:21.738
So<00:28:15.484> I<00:28:15.565> think<00:28:15.791> the<00:28:15.824> VC<00:28:18.215> innovation<00:28:18.700> has<00:28:18.878> been<00:28:19.023> helpful<00:28:19.702> to,<00:28:20.154> for<00:28:20.558> companies<00:28:21.059> to<00:28:21.221> connect.
00:28:22.029 --> 00:28:37.881
And<00:28:23.629> I've<00:28:24.033> had<00:28:24.211> this<00:28:24.389> experience<00:28:25.181> over<00:28:25.342> the<00:28:25.423> last,<00:28:25.973> you<00:28:26.054> know,<00:28:26.151> number<00:28:26.458> of<00:28:26.555> years<00:28:26.797> since<00:28:27.024> the<00:28:27.120> beginning<00:28:27.363> of<00:28:27.508> COVID<00:28:27.913> where<00:28:28.899> I've<00:28:29.125> only<00:28:29.384> talked<00:28:29.723> to<00:28:29.836> somebody<00:28:30.863> over<00:28:31.248> video<00:28:31.505> conferencing<00:28:32.067> and<00:28:32.212> then<00:28:32.469> met<00:28:32.774> them<00:28:33.898> and<00:28:33.994> was<00:28:34.074> sure<00:28:34.637> when<00:28:34.797> I<00:28:34.894> met<00:28:35.183> them<00:28:35.424> live<00:28:36.789> that<00:28:36.949> I<00:28:37.046> had<00:28:37.206> met<00:28:37.431> them<00:28:37.527> before.
00:28:38.491 --> 00:28:41.253
And<00:28:38.555> they're<00:28:38.716> like,<00:28:38.892> no,<00:28:39.214> we've<00:28:39.455> only<00:28:39.712> seen<00:28:40.017> each<00:28:40.161> other<00:28:40.402> over<00:28:40.579> video<00:28:40.884> conferencing.
00:28:41.301 --> 00:28:47.228
But<00:28:41.398> it<00:28:41.462> was—<00:28:42.008> which<00:28:42.169> is<00:28:42.265> interesting<00:28:42.731> though,<00:28:43.148> I<00:28:43.389> didn't<00:28:43.694> feel<00:28:43.855> like<00:28:44.096> it<00:28:44.176> was<00:28:44.289> so<00:28:45.397> wild<00:28:45.782> unless<00:28:46.200> somebody<00:28:46.505> is<00:28:46.681> really<00:28:47.003> tall.
00:28:47.629 --> 00:28:51.724
Then<00:28:47.790> occasionally<00:28:48.223> I'm<00:28:48.320> like,<00:28:48.432> whoa,<00:28:49.331> I've<00:28:49.556> only<00:28:49.893> seen<00:28:50.118> you<00:28:50.215> sitting<00:28:50.536> down,<00:28:51.034> for<00:28:51.178> example.
00:28:51.901 --> 00:28:54.567
But<00:28:52.929> generally,<00:28:53.571> you<00:28:53.603> know,<00:28:53.732> you<00:28:53.828> get<00:28:54.005> a<00:28:54.069> good<00:28:54.230> sense.
00:28:54.952 --> 00:28:57.297
Now,<00:28:55.097> I<00:28:55.193> do<00:28:55.370> think<00:28:55.659> it<00:28:55.820> is<00:28:55.916> important<00:28:56.317> for<00:28:56.462> people<00:28:56.703> to<00:28:56.799> get<00:28:56.944> together.
00:28:57.683 --> 00:29:08.701
And<00:28:57.827> all<00:28:58.020> firms<00:28:58.357> that<00:28:58.486> are<00:28:58.566> distributed<00:28:59.128> like<00:28:59.369> ours,<00:28:59.851> and<00:29:00.493> I<00:29:00.574> know<00:29:00.734> now<00:29:01.056> there<00:29:01.200> are<00:29:01.457> quite<00:29:01.682> a<00:29:01.698> few<00:29:02.003> firms<00:29:02.325> that<00:29:02.485> are<00:29:02.903> highly<00:29:03.144> distributed<00:29:05.135> and<00:29:05.553> there's<00:29:05.826> some,<00:29:06.099> you<00:29:06.195> know,<00:29:06.276> real<00:29:06.517> benefits<00:29:06.983> to<00:29:07.159> it,<00:29:07.304> but<00:29:07.464> you<00:29:07.561> do<00:29:07.786> have<00:29:07.946> to<00:29:08.107> work<00:29:08.444> at<00:29:08.524> it.
00:29:09.231 --> 00:29:18.451
You<00:29:09.328> need<00:29:09.552> to<00:29:09.633> have,<00:29:10.516> you<00:29:10.596> know,<00:29:11.496> this<00:29:11.721> comes—<00:29:12.620> leadership<00:29:13.664> is<00:29:13.825> very<00:29:14.050> important<00:29:14.628> to<00:29:14.773> drive<00:29:15.110> that<00:29:15.335> culture<00:29:15.656> across<00:29:15.993> the<00:29:16.138> firm<00:29:16.459> regardless<00:29:17.134> of<00:29:17.198> whether<00:29:17.375> you're<00:29:17.584> in<00:29:17.664> one<00:29:17.824> place<00:29:18.162> or<00:29:18.242> not.
00:29:18.499 --> 00:29:22.290
It's<00:29:18.676> a<00:29:18.708> little<00:29:18.868> harder<00:29:19.286> from<00:29:19.527> a,<00:29:20.009> from<00:29:20.234> a,<00:29:20.716> to<00:29:20.812> just<00:29:21.053> pick<00:29:21.230> it<00:29:21.358> up<00:29:21.454> from<00:29:21.679> osmosis.
00:29:22.338 --> 00:29:25.406
So<00:29:22.482> you<00:29:22.563> have<00:29:22.643> to<00:29:22.739> be<00:29:22.884> a<00:29:22.900> little<00:29:23.687> a<00:29:23.703> little<00:29:24.025> more<00:29:24.346> intentional<00:29:24.988> about<00:29:25.310> it.
00:29:25.470 --> 00:29:27.254
But<00:29:25.856> again,<00:29:26.097> that's<00:29:26.354> good<00:29:26.579> leadership.
00:29:27.543 --> 00:29:32.748
And<00:29:28.362> two,<00:29:28.764> it<00:29:28.844> is<00:29:28.989> important<00:29:30.049> from<00:29:30.290> time<00:29:30.756> to<00:29:30.852> time<00:29:31.800> that<00:29:31.896> people<00:29:32.218> get<00:29:32.378> together.
00:29:33.407 --> 00:29:37.391
And<00:29:33.985> they<00:29:34.146> do<00:29:34.387> meet<00:29:35.013> in<00:29:35.093> small<00:29:35.431> groups<00:29:36.218> or<00:29:36.636> larger<00:29:37.037> groups.
00:29:37.439 --> 00:29:40.315
And<00:29:38.644> you<00:29:38.804> probably<00:29:39.367> had<00:29:39.527> this<00:29:39.688> experience<00:29:40.154> too.
00:29:40.411 --> 00:29:55.120
If<00:29:40.507> you<00:29:40.588> meet<00:29:40.813> somebody<00:29:41.680> while<00:29:41.921> you<00:29:41.953> maybe<00:29:42.178> spend<00:29:42.483> 2<00:29:42.660> days<00:29:43.849> at<00:29:43.929> an<00:29:44.090> offsite<00:29:44.524> or<00:29:44.588> something<00:29:44.973> together<00:29:45.712> and<00:29:45.777> you<00:29:45.873> get<00:29:46.034> to<00:29:46.130> know<00:29:46.516> them<00:29:46.757> in<00:29:46.837> the<00:29:46.917> flesh,<00:29:47.480> then<00:29:47.624> when<00:29:47.705> you<00:29:47.801> go<00:29:47.962> back<00:29:48.267> to<00:29:48.299> interacting<00:29:48.925> over<00:29:49.327> video<00:29:49.632> conferencing,<00:29:50.275> it's<00:29:50.837> it's<00:29:51.157> already<00:29:51.574> a<00:29:51.719> richer<00:29:52.152> experience<00:29:52.938> because<00:29:53.339> you<00:29:53.644> know<00:29:53.836> them,<00:29:54.205> you<00:29:54.237> know<00:29:54.382> what<00:29:54.526> they're<00:29:54.783> like.
00:29:55.168 --> 00:30:00.365
You<00:29:55.264> kind<00:29:55.681> of<00:29:56.130> have,<00:29:56.371> have<00:29:56.628> a,<00:29:57.093> have<00:29:57.253> a<00:29:57.734> more<00:29:57.927> multi-dimensional<00:29:58.954> sense<00:29:59.579> of<00:29:59.659> that<00:29:59.980> person.
00:30:01.055 --> 00:30:03.413
So<00:30:01.825> you<00:30:01.905> don't<00:30:02.082> have<00:30:02.242> to<00:30:02.338> be<00:30:02.467> together<00:30:02.804> all<00:30:02.948> the<00:30:02.980> time.
00:30:03.846 --> 00:30:06.253
You<00:30:03.943> have<00:30:04.087> to<00:30:04.472> spend<00:30:04.745> some<00:30:04.969> time<00:30:05.611> with<00:30:05.787> each<00:30:05.948> other.
00:30:06.638 --> 00:30:11.354
You<00:30:06.718> have<00:30:06.910> to<00:30:07.039> get<00:30:07.215> to<00:30:07.311> know<00:30:07.536> each<00:30:07.841> other,<00:30:08.322> uh,<00:30:08.579> and<00:30:08.659> you'll,<00:30:08.964> and<00:30:09.060> you<00:30:09.156> will<00:30:09.300> take<00:30:09.621> that<00:30:09.862> back<00:30:10.279> and<00:30:10.391> that<00:30:10.584> will<00:30:10.744> live<00:30:10.985> on.
00:30:11.546 --> 00:30:15.557
That's<00:30:11.851> a,<00:30:11.947> that's<00:30:12.268> like<00:30:12.910> a,<00:30:13.134> an<00:30:13.407> ongoing<00:30:14.418> asset,<00:30:14.771> so<00:30:14.979> to<00:30:15.075> speak.
00:30:15.942 --> 00:30:24.773
There<00:30:16.118> are<00:30:16.214> certain<00:30:16.663> things,<00:30:17.000> you<00:30:17.097> know,<00:30:18.349> when<00:30:18.445> it's<00:30:18.606> great,<00:30:18.847> like<00:30:19.007> an<00:30:19.152> offsite,<00:30:20.212> like<00:30:20.597> offsites<00:30:20.935> that<00:30:20.999> have<00:30:21.159> always<00:30:21.497> been—<00:30:21.802> even<00:30:22.203> just<00:30:22.605> all<00:30:22.782> being<00:30:22.942> in<00:30:23.022> the<00:30:23.167> office<00:30:23.585> isn't<00:30:23.922> super<00:30:24.307> productive.
00:30:24.853 --> 00:30:41.797
Like,<00:30:25.030> let's<00:30:25.335> all<00:30:25.432> go<00:30:25.608> somewhere,<00:30:26.540> let's<00:30:26.781> all<00:30:26.941> lock<00:30:27.118> ourselves<00:30:27.600> in<00:30:27.744> a<00:30:27.825> room<00:30:28.146> away<00:30:28.644> from<00:30:28.868> all<00:30:29.109> the<00:30:29.206> distractions<00:30:30.330> of<00:30:30.394> the<00:30:30.555> office<00:30:31.213> and<00:30:31.294> just<00:30:31.615> focus<00:30:32.177> on<00:30:32.321> a<00:30:32.338> thing,<00:30:32.964> coming<00:30:33.221> up<00:30:33.301> with<00:30:33.462> a<00:30:33.526> new<00:30:33.622> strategy<00:30:34.249> or<00:30:34.281> designing<00:30:34.811> a<00:30:34.827> product<00:30:35.453> or<00:30:35.935> whatever<00:30:36.337> it<00:30:36.417> is,<00:30:37.541> or<00:30:37.718> doing<00:30:38.023> a<00:30:38.039> bunch<00:30:38.216> of<00:30:38.344> exercises<00:30:39.083> to<00:30:39.709> just<00:30:39.950> work<00:30:40.127> together<00:30:40.528> better<00:30:41.251> as<00:30:41.347> a<00:30:41.412> team.
00:30:42.199 --> 00:30:45.361
And<00:30:42.295> so<00:30:42.536> I<00:30:42.616> think<00:30:42.921> all<00:30:43.018> of<00:30:43.098> those<00:30:43.483> are<00:30:43.580> still<00:30:44.623> really<00:30:44.847> important.
00:30:45.810 --> 00:30:46.050
Yeah.
00:30:46.146 --> 00:30:49.129
How<00:30:46.243> do<00:30:46.371> you<00:30:46.467> think<00:30:46.708> about<00:30:47.349> the<00:30:47.654> economic<00:30:48.215> outlook<00:30:48.568> of<00:30:48.712> the<00:30:48.857> year?
00:30:49.193 --> 00:30:51.888
Like<00:30:50.075> for<00:30:50.220> the<00:30:50.300> rest<00:30:50.492> of<00:30:50.541> the<00:30:50.621> year,<00:30:50.781> how's<00:30:51.342> software<00:30:51.759> doing?
00:30:51.968 --> 00:30:52.738
How's<00:30:52.160> tech<00:30:52.401> doing?
00:30:52.978 --> 00:30:53.604
SaaS?
00:30:53.748 --> 00:30:55.576
Like<00:30:54.229> what's<00:30:54.790> your<00:30:54.887> sense<00:30:55.191> for<00:30:55.288> things?
00:30:56.009 --> 00:31:00.644
So<00:30:56.554> I<00:30:56.635> think,<00:30:57.116> you<00:30:57.148> know,<00:30:57.757> I'd<00:30:57.950> say<00:30:58.335> uncertainty<00:30:59.698> is<00:30:59.794> the<00:30:59.938> watchword.
00:31:01.125 --> 00:31:08.935
The<00:31:01.366> first<00:31:01.863> part<00:31:02.584> of<00:31:02.825> the<00:31:03.386> year<00:31:03.771> we<00:31:03.867> saw<00:31:04.252> it<00:31:04.429> and<00:31:04.493> the<00:31:04.573> whole<00:31:04.749> industry<00:31:05.166> saw<00:31:06.016> it,<00:31:06.594> just<00:31:06.818> tremendous<00:31:07.556> economic<00:31:08.197> uncertainty.
00:31:09.400 --> 00:31:25.731
And<00:31:09.480> I<00:31:09.785> think<00:31:10.764> potentially<00:31:11.983> some<00:31:13.411> governmental<00:31:14.678> policies<00:31:15.576> around<00:31:16.058> the<00:31:16.218> economic<00:31:17.261> direction<00:31:17.662> of<00:31:17.758> the<00:31:17.886> company,<00:31:18.721> sorry,<00:31:18.945> of<00:31:19.025> the<00:31:19.106> country<00:31:20.229> and<00:31:20.309> of<00:31:20.389> the<00:31:20.534> world,<00:31:20.790> frankly,<00:31:21.352> to<00:31:21.496> some<00:31:21.656> extent,<00:31:22.715> had<00:31:22.876> people<00:31:23.197> unsure<00:31:23.678> about<00:31:24.801> where<00:31:25.041> things<00:31:25.282> are<00:31:25.427> going.
00:31:25.844 --> 00:31:30.111
It<00:31:25.924> could<00:31:26.084> be<00:31:26.164> amazing,<00:31:26.646> it<00:31:26.710> could<00:31:26.806> be<00:31:26.967> terrible,<00:31:27.528> it<00:31:27.592> could<00:31:27.689> be<00:31:27.785> something<00:31:28.106> in<00:31:28.170> between,<00:31:29.357> not<00:31:29.694> known.
00:31:30.175 --> 00:31:49.605
I<00:31:30.320> think<00:31:32.245> as<00:31:32.582> time<00:31:32.967> has<00:31:33.143> gone<00:31:33.448> on,<00:31:33.945> we've<00:31:34.170> seen,<00:31:34.892> and<00:31:35.132> others,<00:31:35.533> again,<00:31:36.496> We<00:31:36.593> see<00:31:36.753> it<00:31:36.850> ourselves<00:31:37.717> talking<00:31:38.038> to<00:31:38.119> our<00:31:38.279> customers<00:31:38.826> and<00:31:38.922> we<00:31:39.018> see,<00:31:39.709> we<00:31:39.789> see<00:31:39.966> it<00:31:40.046> in<00:31:40.127> the<00:31:40.207> headlines<00:31:40.689> and<00:31:40.769> talking<00:31:41.091> to<00:31:41.235> other<00:31:41.412> firms,<00:31:42.199> other<00:31:42.456> enterprise<00:31:42.777> SaaS<00:31:43.099> companies<00:31:43.902> that<00:31:44.063> some<00:31:44.239> of<00:31:44.304> that<00:31:44.786> uncertainty,<00:31:45.589> at<00:31:45.669> least<00:31:45.894> some<00:31:45.990> of<00:31:46.312> the<00:31:46.392> fear<00:31:47.179> aspect<00:31:47.677> of<00:31:47.822> the<00:31:47.918> uncertainty<00:31:48.641> has<00:31:49.107> gone<00:31:49.284> down.
00:31:49.910 --> 00:31:55.806
So<00:31:50.006> I<00:31:50.087> think<00:31:50.312> there's<00:31:50.488> still<00:31:50.890> uncertainty,<00:31:51.533> but<00:31:51.693> people<00:31:51.918> are<00:31:52.015> a<00:31:52.095> little<00:31:52.336> less<00:31:53.942> trepidatious<00:31:55.083> about<00:31:55.388> the<00:31:55.468> uncertainty.
00:31:55.854 --> 00:31:58.376
They're<00:31:55.934> like,<00:31:56.095> okay,<00:31:56.416> we<00:31:56.513> can<00:31:56.673> roll,<00:31:56.978> we<00:31:57.075> can<00:31:57.219> roll<00:31:57.637> with<00:31:57.717> the<00:31:57.862> uncertainty.
00:31:59.163 --> 00:32:01.541
I<00:31:59.244> feel<00:31:59.404> like<00:31:59.726> that,<00:32:00.111> that<00:32:00.368> has<00:32:00.529> definitely<00:32:01.075> happened.
00:32:02.055 --> 00:32:09.237
And<00:32:02.135> so<00:32:02.601> I<00:32:02.697> think<00:32:02.858> the<00:32:03.163> outlook<00:32:04.646> for<00:32:05.471> the<00:32:05.633> back<00:32:06.037> half<00:32:06.360> of<00:32:06.441> the<00:32:06.586> year<00:32:06.829> has<00:32:07.007> improved<00:32:08.769> generally.
00:32:09.334 --> 00:32:18.435
And<00:32:09.415> I<00:32:09.512> think<00:32:09.755> a<00:32:09.836> lot<00:32:10.094> of<00:32:10.175> it<00:32:10.256> has<00:32:10.482> to<00:32:11.355> do<00:32:11.533> with<00:32:11.695> this,<00:32:11.937> okay,<00:32:12.180> people<00:32:12.422> are<00:32:12.503> just<00:32:13.052> feeling<00:32:13.376> okay<00:32:13.715> about<00:32:14.103> rolling<00:32:14.362> with<00:32:14.442> the<00:32:14.587> uncertainty<00:32:15.650> and<00:32:15.811> the<00:32:15.891> sky<00:32:16.213> isn't<00:32:16.519> falling<00:32:16.857> and<00:32:17.502> we<00:32:17.646> can<00:32:17.759> deal<00:32:17.985> with<00:32:18.146> things.
00:32:18.935 --> 00:32:24.104
I<00:32:19.015> do<00:32:19.128> think<00:32:19.353> there<00:32:21.430> are<00:32:22.074> other<00:32:23.379> areas<00:32:23.701> of<00:32:23.830> uncertainty.
00:32:24.185 --> 00:32:26.253
So<00:32:24.347> there's<00:32:24.508> sort<00:32:24.605> of<00:32:24.831> general<00:32:25.235> economic<00:32:25.720> uncertainty.
00:32:26.689 --> 00:32:31.924
I<00:32:26.770> think<00:32:26.996> there's<00:32:27.174> a<00:32:27.255> lot<00:32:27.643> of,<00:32:27.998> again,<00:32:29.032> prognostication<00:32:30.486> and<00:32:30.583> some<00:32:30.809> of<00:32:30.955> it's<00:32:31.132> fairly<00:32:31.520> melodramatic.
00:32:32.981 --> 00:32:36.861
Some<00:32:33.191> of<00:32:33.288> it<00:32:34.015> incendiary<00:32:34.824> about,<00:32:35.228> oh,<00:32:35.292> it's<00:32:35.616> the<00:32:35.794> end<00:32:35.955> of<00:32:36.036> SaaS.
00:32:37.087 --> 00:32:40.692
But<00:32:39.415> I<00:32:39.754> don't<00:32:39.932> see<00:32:40.158> that<00:32:40.401> at<00:32:40.546> all.
00:32:41.549 --> 00:32:45.245
Certainly<00:32:42.018> it's<00:32:42.276> not<00:32:43.071> the<00:32:43.233> end<00:32:43.379> of<00:32:43.541> enterprise<00:32:44.758> technology.
00:32:46.949 --> 00:32:49.340
Things<00:32:47.143> take<00:32:47.369> different<00:32:47.757> forms,<00:32:48.015> things<00:32:48.257> evolve<00:32:48.742> over<00:32:48.984> time.
00:32:49.954 --> 00:33:00.002
I<00:32:50.018> haven't<00:32:50.212> seen<00:32:50.519> any<00:32:50.761> reason<00:32:51.165> why<00:32:52.151> SaaS,<00:32:53.185> which<00:32:53.346> is<00:32:53.669> a<00:32:53.734> very<00:32:53.992> broad<00:32:55.446> category,<00:32:58.268> really<00:32:58.677> changes<00:32:59.168> in<00:32:59.250> the<00:32:59.282> short<00:32:59.659> term.
00:33:01.131 --> 00:33:08.300
And<00:33:01.786> certainly<00:33:02.130> the<00:33:02.211> fundamental<00:33:02.604> need<00:33:03.912> isn't<00:33:04.738> there<00:33:06.503> for<00:33:06.600> something<00:33:07.183> really<00:33:07.814> different.
00:33:08.543 --> 00:33:14.371
Customer<00:33:08.932> expectations<00:33:09.676> constantly<00:33:10.178> evolve,<00:33:10.664> enabling<00:33:11.134> technologies<00:33:11.927> constantly<00:33:12.316> evolve<00:33:12.656> and<00:33:12.737> allow<00:33:12.996> for<00:33:13.222> new<00:33:13.303> things<00:33:13.951> like<00:33:14.129> AI.
00:33:15.083 --> 00:33:28.173
But<00:33:15.181> I,<00:33:15.569> again,<00:33:16.071> back<00:33:16.314> to<00:33:16.459> our<00:33:17.204> earlier<00:33:17.673> part<00:33:17.835> of<00:33:17.916> the<00:33:17.997> conversation,<00:33:18.822> I<00:33:18.984> don't<00:33:19.227> think<00:33:19.551> people<00:33:19.955> really<00:33:21.444> fully<00:33:23.183> understand<00:33:24.132> yet<00:33:25.259> how<00:33:25.984> AI<00:33:26.386> exactly<00:33:27.046> is<00:33:27.191> going<00:33:27.368> to<00:33:27.513> help<00:33:27.690> their<00:33:27.851> business.
00:33:28.511 --> 00:33:33.258
Yes,<00:33:28.881> here<00:33:29.139> and<00:33:29.284> there,<00:33:29.944> and<00:33:30.250> a<00:33:30.266> lot<00:33:30.491> of<00:33:30.572> firms<00:33:30.974> are<00:33:31.412> using<00:33:31.749> it<00:33:31.878> for<00:33:31.990> very<00:33:32.215> specific<00:33:32.857> things.
00:33:33.804 --> 00:33:42.906
But<00:33:33.884> I<00:33:33.965> think<00:33:34.221> the,<00:33:34.864> the<00:33:35.329> larger-scale<00:33:37.512> cataclysmic<00:33:38.476> kind<00:33:38.861> of<00:33:39.021> changes,<00:33:40.338> not<00:33:40.627> sure,<00:33:40.803> uh,<00:33:41.108> you<00:33:41.445> know,<00:33:41.831> they<00:33:41.927> may<00:33:42.104> not<00:33:42.344> happen.
00:33:42.970 --> 00:33:45.426
They<00:33:43.051> may<00:33:43.211> take<00:33:43.773> far<00:33:44.239> longer<00:33:44.720> to<00:33:44.816> sort<00:33:45.041> of<00:33:45.121> happen.
00:33:45.475 --> 00:33:57.226
They<00:33:45.523> may<00:33:45.683> happen<00:33:46.085> in<00:33:46.165> a<00:33:46.261> more<00:33:47.048> slow<00:33:47.626> evolution<00:33:48.428> than<00:33:48.653> in<00:33:48.830> sort<00:33:49.006> of<00:33:49.151> a<00:33:49.616> cliffy<00:33:50.676> way<00:33:51.462> than<00:33:51.816> some<00:33:52.105> of<00:33:52.137> the,<00:33:53.148> you<00:33:53.180> know,<00:33:53.870> uh,<00:33:54.127> prognosticators<00:33:55.090> have<00:33:55.235> been,<00:33:55.556> have<00:33:55.733> been,<00:33:56.278> uh,<00:33:56.455> prophesying.
00:33:57.916 --> 00:33:59.187
So<00:33:58.607> We'll<00:33:58.784> see.
00:33:59.348 --> 00:34:12.758
And<00:33:59.687> so<00:33:59.912> I<00:33:59.993> think<00:34:00.154> that's<00:34:00.396> another<00:34:00.799> area<00:34:01.347> of<00:34:02.169> uncertainty<00:34:03.200> is,<00:34:05.526> okay,<00:34:05.928> what<00:34:06.121> is<00:34:06.410> the,<00:34:06.892> not<00:34:07.069> just<00:34:07.230> the<00:34:07.455> economic<00:34:08.098> situation<00:34:08.628> going<00:34:08.708> to<00:34:08.821> look<00:34:08.998> like,<00:34:09.239> but<00:34:09.383> what's<00:34:10.541> the<00:34:10.766> future<00:34:11.392> of<00:34:11.473> software<00:34:12.212> look<00:34:12.453> like?
00:34:13.176 --> 00:34:15.807
How<00:34:13.482> do<00:34:13.578> we<00:34:13.883> best<00:34:14.770> serve<00:34:15.110> our<00:34:15.272> customers?
00:34:15.904 --> 00:34:23.392
And<00:34:15.985> I<00:34:16.147> think<00:34:16.390> there<00:34:16.551> are<00:34:18.980> all<00:34:19.061> kinds<00:34:19.466> of<00:34:20.146> forces<00:34:21.570> going<00:34:21.975> on<00:34:22.299> at<00:34:22.396> the<00:34:22.850> moment.
00:34:23.799 --> 00:34:34.300
And<00:34:25.663> including<00:34:26.305> different<00:34:26.626> business<00:34:27.011> models<00:34:27.894> and<00:34:28.777> kind<00:34:29.018> of<00:34:29.098> different<00:34:29.419> ways<00:34:31.041> to<00:34:31.137> look<00:34:32.004> at<00:34:32.149> things<00:34:32.646> and<00:34:33.048> to<00:34:33.208> delight<00:34:33.593> customers.
00:34:35.054 --> 00:34:41.669
And<00:34:35.135> there's<00:34:35.359> no<00:34:35.857> real,<00:34:36.884> not<00:34:37.206> yet,<00:34:37.607> a<00:34:37.848> truly<00:34:38.410> clear,<00:34:39.549> confident<00:34:41.075> direction.
00:34:42.214 --> 00:34:48.427
There's<00:34:42.439> still<00:34:42.696> a<00:34:42.760> lot<00:34:43.001> of<00:34:43.081> exploration,<00:34:44.189> a<00:34:44.205> lot<00:34:44.446> of<00:34:44.590> speculation<00:34:45.489> and<00:34:45.634> discussion<00:34:46.212> and<00:34:46.292> debate<00:34:47.255> going<00:34:47.560> on<00:34:47.801> in<00:34:47.898> the<00:34:48.042> industry.
00:34:49.166 --> 00:35:05.734
So<00:34:49.744> those<00:34:50.546> levels<00:34:50.868> of<00:34:50.948> uncertainty<00:34:51.815> are<00:34:52.216> in<00:34:52.312> the<00:34:52.393> background,<00:34:53.115> but<00:34:53.340> I<00:34:53.356> don't<00:34:53.516> think<00:34:53.677> they're<00:34:53.854> really<00:34:54.143> affecting<00:34:55.154> people's—<00:34:56.005> most<00:34:56.326> people's—<00:34:56.808> that<00:34:56.968> may<00:34:57.113> be<00:34:57.209> affecting<00:34:57.610> some,<00:34:57.931> but<00:34:58.269> I<00:34:58.654> think<00:34:59.039> most<00:34:59.376> businesses<00:35:00.019> are<00:35:00.099> not<00:35:00.580> yet<00:35:00.982> really<00:35:01.303> directly<00:35:01.704> affected<00:35:02.828> by<00:35:03.149> that<00:35:03.695> level<00:35:03.952> of<00:35:04.016> sort<00:35:04.931> of<00:35:05.140> uncertainty.
00:35:05.878 --> 00:35:11.080
Compared<00:35:06.216> to<00:35:06.344> the<00:35:06.424> economic<00:35:06.858> uncertainty,<00:35:07.243> was<00:35:07.404> much<00:35:07.628> more<00:35:07.805> sharp,<00:35:08.206> but<00:35:08.287> that<00:35:08.608> again<00:35:09.025> seems<00:35:09.330> to<00:35:09.426> be<00:35:09.555> receding<00:35:10.004> a<00:35:10.133> little,<00:35:10.374> at<00:35:10.518> least<00:35:10.759> a<00:35:10.855> bit.
00:35:11.160 --> 00:35:15.431
Hopefully<00:35:11.562> it<00:35:11.658> continues<00:35:12.204> to—<00:35:12.525> hopefully<00:35:13.488> economic<00:35:13.922> uncertainty<00:35:14.387> continues<00:35:14.869> to<00:35:14.949> recede.
00:35:15.913 --> 00:35:23.864
Finally,<00:35:16.378> we<00:35:16.619> end<00:35:16.779> every<00:35:17.036> interview<00:35:17.325> with<00:35:17.422> the<00:35:17.454> same<00:35:17.743> question,<00:35:18.305> and<00:35:18.401> that<00:35:18.626> is,<00:35:18.786> at<00:35:18.883> CEO.com,<00:35:19.750> we<00:35:19.910> believe<00:35:20.151> the<00:35:20.247> chances<00:35:20.649> one<00:35:20.954> gives<00:35:21.875> Is<00:35:22.021> just<00:35:22.348> as<00:35:22.429> important<00:35:22.739> as<00:35:22.821> the<00:35:22.918> chances<00:35:23.310> one<00:35:23.489> takes.
00:35:24.468 --> 00:35:27.224
When<00:35:24.631> you<00:35:24.859> hear<00:35:25.039> that,<00:35:25.267> who<00:35:25.446> gave<00:35:25.626> you<00:35:25.773> a<00:35:25.854> chance<00:35:26.099> to<00:35:26.246> get<00:35:26.409> you<00:35:26.490> to<00:35:26.572> where<00:35:26.751> you<00:35:26.898> are<00:35:27.061> today?
00:35:28.320 --> 00:35:41.762
Oh,<00:35:28.513> I<00:35:28.529> mean,<00:35:30.670> so<00:35:30.992> many<00:35:31.249> people,<00:35:32.038> so<00:35:32.215> many<00:35:32.457> people,<00:35:33.085> certainly,<00:35:34.952> certainly<00:35:35.274> my<00:35:35.451> fam,<00:35:35.918> I<00:35:35.982> would<00:35:36.095> say<00:35:36.642> probably<00:35:37.045> most<00:35:37.351> fundamentally,<00:35:38.075> and<00:35:38.140> this<00:35:38.334> is,<00:35:38.560> you<00:35:38.673> know,<00:35:38.819> maybe<00:35:39.142> it's<00:35:39.466> a,<00:35:40.339> it's<00:35:40.517> probably<00:35:40.840> a<00:35:40.921> common<00:35:41.325> answer.
00:35:42.134 --> 00:35:45.513
My<00:35:42.360> family<00:35:43.023> was<00:35:43.169> extremely<00:35:44.155> supportive,<00:35:44.883> loving<00:35:45.190> family.
00:35:45.594 --> 00:35:47.519
Again,<00:35:45.837> I'm<00:35:45.934> just,<00:35:46.273> I'm<00:35:46.419> just<00:35:46.581> sheer,<00:35:47.066> sheer<00:35:47.373> lucky.
00:35:47.892 --> 00:35:49.575
That's—<00:35:48.373> I<00:35:48.453> can<00:35:48.613> take<00:35:48.773> no<00:35:48.934> credit<00:35:49.254> for<00:35:49.495> it.
00:35:49.799 --> 00:35:54.528
And<00:35:50.777> they're<00:35:51.242> very<00:35:51.498> supportive,<00:35:52.941> taught<00:35:53.422> me<00:35:53.967> a<00:35:53.983> lot.
00:35:55.330 --> 00:36:02.319
And<00:35:55.490> growing<00:35:55.746> up<00:35:55.907> on<00:35:56.003> a<00:35:56.067> ranch<00:35:57.109> taught<00:35:57.446> me<00:35:57.654> a<00:35:57.734> lot<00:35:57.991> about,<00:35:59.097> you<00:35:59.193> know,<00:35:59.978> making<00:36:00.379> things<00:36:00.636> happen<00:36:01.101> and<00:36:01.197> being<00:36:01.437> responsible.
00:36:03.201 --> 00:36:08.587
You<00:36:03.281> know,<00:36:03.441> a<00:36:03.505> ranch<00:36:03.858> is<00:36:04.002> basically<00:36:04.707> a<00:36:04.787> collection<00:36:05.284> of<00:36:05.365> little<00:36:05.621> family<00:36:06.150> businesses<00:36:06.727> and<00:36:06.807> different<00:36:07.128> parts<00:36:07.465> of<00:36:07.529> the<00:36:07.673> family<00:36:08.090> would<00:36:08.170> do<00:36:08.330> things.
00:36:08.635 --> 00:36:14.213
So,<00:36:08.747> you<00:36:08.955> know,<00:36:09.613> you<00:36:09.693> know,<00:36:09.789> my<00:36:09.917> folks<00:36:10.238> would<00:36:10.318> have<00:36:10.719> the<00:36:10.815> cattle<00:36:11.216> business<00:36:11.696> and<00:36:11.777> the<00:36:12.242> horse<00:36:13.043> breeding<00:36:13.444> operation.
00:36:14.742 --> 00:36:17.323
My<00:36:14.838> sister<00:36:15.223> ran<00:36:15.608> the<00:36:16.009> egg<00:36:16.409> chicken<00:36:16.826> business.
00:36:17.451 --> 00:36:19.151
I<00:36:17.612> ran<00:36:17.788> the<00:36:18.253> pig<00:36:18.509> business.
00:36:19.551 --> 00:36:20.769
We<00:36:19.936> all<00:36:20.032> these<00:36:20.176> different<00:36:20.497> things.
00:36:20.897 --> 00:36:25.736
Obviously<00:36:21.154> we<00:36:21.314> all<00:36:21.618> worked<00:36:22.115> together,<00:36:22.676> but<00:36:22.820> we<00:36:22.900> had<00:36:23.156> areas<00:36:23.493> of<00:36:23.621> responsibility<00:36:24.599> that<00:36:24.823> we're<00:36:24.903> responsible<00:36:25.560> for.
00:36:25.800 --> 00:36:30.799
My<00:36:25.960> parents<00:36:26.345> were<00:36:26.521> very,<00:36:27.787> um,<00:36:29.245> clear<00:36:29.950> that<00:36:30.046> we<00:36:30.191> were<00:36:30.367> responsible.
00:36:30.847 --> 00:36:32.097
We<00:36:30.992> had<00:36:31.120> to<00:36:31.184> do<00:36:31.328> the<00:36:31.408> record-keeping.
00:36:32.209 --> 00:36:38.747
We,<00:36:32.450> you<00:36:32.546> know,<00:36:33.235> financially<00:36:33.892> we<00:36:34.116> paid<00:36:34.437> for,<00:36:35.029> you<00:36:35.174> know,<00:36:35.254> the<00:36:35.398> cost<00:36:35.734> of<00:36:35.815> feed<00:36:36.215> and<00:36:36.295> got<00:36:36.536> and<00:36:36.696> made<00:36:36.936> money<00:36:37.337> from<00:36:37.577> that,<00:36:37.914> from<00:36:38.058> that<00:36:38.218> business.
00:36:39.356 --> 00:36:42.753
And<00:36:39.420> so<00:36:39.580> we<00:36:39.804> understood<00:36:40.365> what<00:36:40.525> kind<00:36:40.605> of<00:36:40.702> running<00:36:41.022> a<00:36:41.102> little<00:36:41.567> business<00:36:42.208> felt<00:36:42.464> like.
00:36:43.089 --> 00:36:59.551
And,<00:36:43.409> uh,<00:36:43.810> and<00:36:43.890> then<00:36:44.066> learn,<00:36:44.531> you<00:36:44.563> know,<00:36:44.771> learn<00:36:45.012> all<00:36:45.108> kinds<00:36:45.428> of<00:36:45.524> amazing<00:36:45.989> things<00:36:46.374> and<00:36:46.534> had<00:36:46.774> a<00:36:47.335> great<00:36:47.912> education,<00:36:49.098> folks<00:36:49.932> sent<00:36:50.156> me<00:36:50.317> off<00:36:50.413> to<00:36:50.477> Harvard<00:36:51.054> and,<00:36:51.904> and,<00:36:53.924> you<00:36:54.020> know,<00:36:55.190> allowed<00:36:55.591> that,<00:36:56.168> you<00:36:56.264> know,<00:36:56.569> enabled<00:36:57.034> that<00:36:57.290> to<00:36:57.370> happen<00:36:58.236> at<00:36:58.733> multiple<00:36:59.134> levels.
00:37:00.015 --> 00:37:01.586
And<00:37:00.416> I'm<00:37:00.753> forever<00:37:01.202> grateful.
00:37:02.003 --> 00:37:18.898
So<00:37:02.180> I<00:37:02.340> think<00:37:02.596> fundamentally,<00:37:04.344> I'd<00:37:04.440> say,<00:37:05.129> you<00:37:05.161> know,<00:37:05.546> my<00:37:05.771> parents,<00:37:06.893> you<00:37:07.053> can<00:37:07.149> say,<00:37:07.951> well,<00:37:08.352> helping<00:37:08.656> your<00:37:08.816> child<00:37:09.458> out<00:37:09.618> isn't<00:37:09.858> really<00:37:10.099> taking<00:37:10.500> a<00:37:10.516> chance,<00:37:11.622> but,<00:37:12.023> you<00:37:12.055> know,<00:37:12.504> you're<00:37:12.904> always<00:37:13.786> you're<00:37:13.898> always<00:37:14.187> hoping<00:37:14.507> for<00:37:14.587> the<00:37:14.683> best<00:37:15.004> and<00:37:15.068> you're<00:37:15.164> giving<00:37:15.485> people,<00:37:16.446> you<00:37:16.526> know,<00:37:17.392> a<00:37:17.568> chance<00:37:18.513> at<00:37:18.593> success.
00:37:18.962 --> 00:37:20.212
So<00:37:19.154> I<00:37:19.170> think<00:37:19.331> that's<00:37:19.571> foundational.
00:37:20.532 --> 00:37:37.279
But<00:37:20.853> I<00:37:20.997> will<00:37:21.318> add,<00:37:21.414> I<00:37:21.574> don't<00:37:21.798> want<00:37:21.943> to,<00:37:22.520> you<00:37:22.616> know,<00:37:23.016> big<00:37:23.161> waters,<00:37:23.577> but<00:37:23.802> I<00:37:23.898> will<00:37:24.122> add<00:37:24.443> that,<00:37:24.763> you<00:37:24.859> know,<00:37:25.436> so<00:37:25.901> many<00:37:26.942> people<00:37:27.984> in<00:37:28.064> my<00:37:28.289> life,<00:37:29.266> folks<00:37:29.507> who've<00:37:29.731> hired<00:37:30.148> me,<00:37:30.869> investors<00:37:31.670> who've<00:37:31.990> backed<00:37:32.471> me,<00:37:33.208> employees<00:37:33.897> who've<00:37:34.218> joined<00:37:34.859> teams,<00:37:35.276> they've<00:37:35.500> all,<00:37:35.820> they've<00:37:36.061> all<00:37:36.237> taken<00:37:36.622> real<00:37:36.814> risks.
00:37:37.503 --> 00:37:53.009
And,<00:37:38.160> and,<00:37:38.625> you<00:37:38.721> know,<00:37:39.266> they<00:37:39.587> may<00:37:39.700> not<00:37:39.940> have<00:37:40.085> known<00:37:40.406> me<00:37:40.567> very<00:37:40.888> well<00:37:42.236> at<00:37:42.333> the<00:37:42.413> time,<00:37:42.894> but<00:37:42.991> they<00:37:43.199> backed<00:37:43.617> me<00:37:43.858> and<00:37:43.938> allowed<00:37:44.339> me<00:37:44.436> to<00:37:44.580> do<00:37:44.837> something<00:37:46.121> successful<00:37:48.032> that,<00:37:48.899> you<00:37:48.995> know,<00:37:49.413> allowed<00:37:49.637> me<00:37:49.798> to<00:37:49.942> give<00:37:50.119> back,<00:37:50.681> but<00:37:50.906> that,<00:37:51.243> you<00:37:51.339> know,<00:37:51.580> helped<00:37:52.110> allowed<00:37:52.527> me<00:37:52.688> to<00:37:52.768> grow.
00:37:53.715 --> 00:37:55.754
And,<00:37:54.036> and<00:37:54.197> I'm,<00:37:54.678> you<00:37:54.759> know,<00:37:54.839> forever<00:37:55.401> grateful.
00:37:55.818 --> 00:37:58.162
And<00:37:55.963> I,<00:37:56.139> I<00:37:56.284> approach<00:37:56.685> every<00:37:56.862> day<00:37:57.006> with<00:37:57.103> gratitude<00:37:57.665> about<00:37:57.970> that.
00:37:58.708 --> 00:37:59.238
That's<00:37:58.885> incredible.
00:37:59.334 --> 00:38:01.566
