Oyster CEO Tony Jamous: Democratizing opportunities and creating a culture of belonging
On leaving home, hiring anywhere, and the difference between belonging and control.

Tony Jamous spent years arguing leaders control less than they think
Tony Jamous called in from Cyprus. He lives on the island now because his company made it possible and because he wanted to be near the water after 14 years in London and seven in San Francisco. He does not work mornings. His team sits in the US and Europe, so he swims, spends time with his children, and starts in the afternoon. He has said elsewhere that announcing the rule publicly was a deliberate device, a way of making it harder for himself to overwork.
He also told the CEO.com Podcast that leaders who believe they control their companies are mostly enjoying an illusion. You can control the financial trajectory and influence the strategy, he said. Culture is not on the list. You cannot control how people behave, and the water-cooler conversations executives miss so badly were never guaranteed to be good ones.
"It's more about belonging rather than controlling," he said.
In January 2025, he went to Oyster's board and asked them to find someone to replace him.
The company announced the result on January 13, 2026. Hadi Moussa became chief executive. Jamous moved into a newly created executive chairman role covering long-term vision and strategy. He then wrote up the search in more detail than founders usually do, including the part where it went wrong. The committee ran 360-degree feedback across the leadership team before speaking to a single candidate, interviewed more than 40 people, and spent the early months screening former revenue and finance chiefs before concluding the company needed a generalist rather than another specialist. Finalists were given a live case study on scaling Oyster over five years. Moussa scored highest on every dimension, and he had grown up in the same Lebanese village as Jamous. The first house visible from the Jamous family home belonged to Moussa's grandparents.
That village is where it all starts. Jamous grew up in Beirut during the civil war and left at 17 for France to study computer science, which was less a choice than the only door that opened. Lebanon had been a French colony; he was fluent, and his school had a relationship with a French university that selected a few students. He was on that list. Once he arrived, the French government began paying him 350 euros a month.
"I said, 'Why are you guys giving me money? I'm not even French,'" he said. "And they said, 'Because we want you to focus on your studies. We want you to have equal opportunities with other people and not worry about paying rent.'"
He describes Lebanon as a failed state with a corrupt government and no serious growth path for its young people, which is why the diaspora reaches everywhere and why Lebanese food does too. Roughly 80 percent of the world's population, by his estimate, lives somewhere that does not support human growth. The talented leave. The countries they leave keep losing.
His first company was Nexmo, a cloud communications platform. Vonage, a New York Stock Exchange company, completed its acquisition of the privately held Nexmo in June 2016 for $230 million, with an earn-out of up to $20 million on top. That deal, Jamous told CEO.com, gave him his exposure to the public markets. Afterward, he took a year and a half away to work out what came next. What he landed on in late 2019 was reversing brain drain.
Oyster is an employer of record. It lets a company hire someone full-time in a country where it has no legal entity and handles the contracts, payroll, taxes, and benefits underneath. Jamous frames it as deleting a question that used to come first. Companies once picked a country, opened an office, hired a manager, and waited six months to a year to find out whether it worked.
"You don't need anymore to pick the country," he said. "You need to pick the person first."
He walked through the version with a name in it. You find Mary in Athens, an excellent software developer. Do you hire her as a contractor, and is that even compliant in Greece? What do you pay her? Can you give her equity? Who handles her benefits? Then he stopped himself. "Obviously, this is a marketing message," he said. "My marketing team will be happy."
At the time of the conversation, Oyster had about 600 people across 80 countries and more than 100 nationalities, with no offices anywhere. Half the talent employed on the platform worked in research and development. Jamous is specific about why the arrangement matters to him. Fifteen years ago he ran the French market for a company headquartered in the US and the UK, and he was, in his telling, their French guy. He wasn't even French at the time. He felt he had to move closer to headquarters to be taken seriously. At Oyster, there is no headquarters to move toward.
The company has been a certified B Corp since May 2023, which Jamous said he wanted from day one, so an outside body would check whether the mission was real rather than stated. He argues the mission also pays. Around 65 percent of Oyster's customers told the company it was a factor in choosing them.
His advice on running a distributed company came with a caveat attached. Build trust deliberately, because nobody is visible in a chair. Write down how the team works, which conversations happen live and which do not. Define what performance looks like, since presence was always a poor proxy for it. None of that is specific to remote work. "That makes you a great company," he said. Being distributed only removes the option of skipping it.
At Oyster, the executive team records video updates that everyone watches before the meeting, with a pre-read and comments already logged. Fridays hold no internal meetings. Jamous said those are the most productive executive meetings of his career, and his reasoning is about emotional load rather than throughput. When everything happens live, people get put on the spot, and people on the spot react instead of respond.
The company tracks daily sentiment through a Slack app and reviews the aggregate for dips. It runs a separate channel where people can ask for support anonymously. Jamous is in that channel, and he said he posts in it himself when he needs something from the community.
He picked up the guitar in 2023 after hearing someone play at a retreat in the Amazon, where he heard music with his heart rather than his ears for the first time. He mentioned twice that he plays badly.
Some of what he predicted has since resolved. He described a path to the public markets and said the window would not open for at least 12 months. Oyster is still private. In September 2024, the company raised $59 million in a Series D, bringing its total raised to $286 million. TechCrunch reported that Silver Lake Waterman led the round and that it valued Oyster at $1.2 billion, up from the $1 billion set in 2022, during a stretch when much of the sector took down rounds. Jamous told the publication the earlier round had been raised "at the peak of the market."
In December 2025, he took the borderless argument to Inc., writing that the $100,000 H-1B fee announced that September was less a problem than a warning, and that a talent strategy built on a visa lottery is a gamble rather than a strategy. Asked back in 2022 about Oyster passing a $1 billion valuation, he had told IMD that he was "increasingly less attached to these labels."
Every CEO.com Podcast conversation ends on the same idea: that the chances one gives matter as much as the chances one takes. Jamous named a government first. The French bureaucracy handed a 17-year-old from Beirut 350 euros a month and told him to go study, which was a bet on him before anyone in business made one. Then he named Pascal, his mentor from his previous company, who coached him through his development as a leader and became a friend. He had been on the phone with him that same day.

Tony,<00:00:10.216> thank<00:00:10.458> you<00:00:10.555> so<00:00:10.797> much<00:00:11.184> for<00:00:11.410> coming<00:00:11.749> on<00:00:11.910> the<00:00:11.991> show.
00:00:12.556 --> 00:00:19.845
An<00:00:12.701> absolute<00:00:13.346> honor<00:00:13.846> and<00:00:14.088> pleasure<00:00:15.540> to<00:00:15.766> have<00:00:16.169> you<00:00:17.921> as<00:00:18.083> part<00:00:18.277> of<00:00:18.325> the<00:00:18.406> show<00:00:18.972> and<00:00:19.134> to<00:00:19.199> have<00:00:19.376> you<00:00:19.538> on.
00:00:20.104 --> 00:00:28.251
And<00:00:20.670> I—<00:00:21.479> when<00:00:21.576> I<00:00:21.738> think<00:00:21.916> about<00:00:22.223> you<00:00:22.773> and<00:00:22.854> when<00:00:22.967> I<00:00:23.112> think<00:00:23.290> about<00:00:23.581> Oyster,<00:00:24.714> I<00:00:24.942> think<00:00:25.137> about<00:00:25.773> purpose<00:00:26.344> and<00:00:26.425> what<00:00:26.588> it<00:00:26.654> means<00:00:26.866> to<00:00:26.996> be<00:00:27.094> a<00:00:27.159> purpose-driven<00:00:27.795> entrepreneur.
00:00:28.365 --> 00:00:29.898
I<00:00:28.463> know<00:00:28.626> that<00:00:28.806> Oyster,<00:00:28.936> I<00:00:28.952> believe,<00:00:29.213> is<00:00:29.262> a<00:00:29.278> benefit<00:00:29.442> corporation,<00:00:29.686> correct?
00:00:34.112 --> 00:00:34.289
Yes.
00:00:34.515 --> 00:00:36.307
Why<00:00:34.838> was<00:00:35.064> that<00:00:35.322> important<00:00:35.887> to<00:00:36.129> you?
00:00:37.324 --> 00:00:38.082
Maybe<00:00:37.566> we<00:00:37.663> start<00:00:37.905> there.
00:00:38.792 --> 00:00:40.632
So<00:00:38.954> there's<00:00:39.099> kind<00:00:39.212> of<00:00:39.422> 3<00:00:39.664> parts<00:00:39.987> to<00:00:40.084> this<00:00:40.245> question.
00:00:40.713 --> 00:00:44.207
Why<00:00:40.891> was<00:00:41.052> it<00:00:41.117> important<00:00:41.601> to<00:00:41.762> you<00:00:42.666> to<00:00:42.747> be<00:00:42.924> a<00:00:43.280> purpose-driven<00:00:43.910> entrepreneur?
00:00:45.638 --> 00:00:48.123
Why<00:00:45.819> was<00:00:45.984> it<00:00:46.066> important<00:00:46.543> to<00:00:46.576> you<00:00:46.708> to<00:00:46.774> have<00:00:46.971> a<00:00:47.054> purpose-driven<00:00:47.909> company?
00:00:50.212 --> 00:00:52.679
And<00:00:51.179> why<00:00:51.485> a<00:00:51.582> benefits<00:00:52.050> corporation?
00:00:53.614 --> 00:00:55.339
Sorry<00:00:53.904> to<00:00:53.985> start<00:00:54.323> out<00:00:54.404> with<00:00:54.549> just<00:00:54.710> like<00:00:54.887> 3<00:00:55.113> questions.
00:00:58.625 --> 00:00:59.017
Amazing.
00:00:59.197 --> 00:01:01.242
Thank<00:00:59.459> you,<00:00:59.704> Clint,<00:01:00.113> for<00:01:00.260> having<00:01:00.522> me<00:01:00.849> here<00:01:00.964> today.
00:01:01.340 --> 00:01:01.749
And<00:01:01.389> hello,<00:01:01.520> everybody.
00:01:05.036 --> 00:01:09.547
I'm<00:01:05.263> calling<00:01:05.653> from<00:01:05.896> the<00:01:06.075> island<00:01:06.399> of<00:01:06.545> Cyprus<00:01:07.113> where<00:01:07.194> I<00:01:07.227> now<00:01:07.681> live<00:01:08.184> thanks<00:01:08.427> to<00:01:08.817> remote<00:01:09.222> work.
00:01:10.293 --> 00:01:13.312
And<00:01:11.592> let's<00:01:11.981> go<00:01:12.143> right<00:01:12.387> in<00:01:12.646> and<00:01:12.792> answer<00:01:12.955> this<00:01:13.020> question.
00:01:13.377 --> 00:01:17.928
So<00:01:14.336> why<00:01:14.596> it's<00:01:14.759> important<00:01:15.393> to<00:01:15.474> me<00:01:15.734> to<00:01:15.880> be<00:01:16.482> a<00:01:16.709> mission-driven<00:01:17.359> entrepreneur.
00:01:19.697 --> 00:01:29.353
Look,<00:01:21.236> I<00:01:22.224> believe<00:01:22.548> in<00:01:22.710> aligning<00:01:23.180> what<00:01:23.342> we<00:01:23.439> believe<00:01:23.779> in<00:01:24.071> with<00:01:24.573> what<00:01:24.751> we<00:01:24.897> do<00:01:25.448> and<00:01:25.869> having<00:01:26.193> that<00:01:27.003> purpose<00:01:28.543> give<00:01:28.708> me<00:01:29.039> energy.
00:01:29.965 --> 00:01:36.166
Starting<00:01:30.394> a<00:01:30.527> business<00:01:31.188> is<00:01:32.336> is<00:01:32.512> a<00:01:32.656> rough<00:01:32.977> journey<00:01:33.474> for<00:01:33.778> any<00:01:34.018> entrepreneur<00:01:35.156> or<00:01:35.236> most<00:01:35.557> entrepreneurs.
00:01:36.983 --> 00:01:39.435
And<00:01:37.143> you<00:01:37.239> need<00:01:37.480> that<00:01:37.800> extra<00:01:38.521> motivation.
00:01:39.643 --> 00:01:42.976
You<00:01:39.723> need<00:01:39.948> to<00:01:40.060> remind<00:01:40.508> yourself<00:01:41.406> why<00:01:41.582> you're<00:01:41.726> here,<00:01:42.111> why<00:01:42.207> you're<00:01:42.351> doing<00:01:42.512> what<00:01:42.608> you're<00:01:42.752> doing.
00:01:43.489 --> 00:01:49.482
So<00:01:43.633> when<00:01:43.729> you're<00:01:43.874> faced<00:01:44.274> with<00:01:44.451> these<00:01:44.611> challenges,<00:01:45.973> you<00:01:46.053> can<00:01:47.014> be<00:01:47.319> more<00:01:47.511> equipped<00:01:48.056> and<00:01:48.200> more<00:01:48.296> motivated<00:01:48.857> to<00:01:48.953> address<00:01:49.322> them.
00:01:50.444 --> 00:01:55.988
And<00:01:52.126> yeah,<00:01:52.463> and<00:01:52.607> I<00:01:52.687> believe,<00:01:53.040> so<00:01:53.184> that's<00:01:53.569> why<00:01:53.825> I<00:01:53.985> do<00:01:54.065> it<00:01:54.209> for<00:01:54.274> me,<00:01:54.530> why<00:01:55.187> it's<00:01:55.331> important<00:01:55.732> for<00:01:55.860> me.
00:01:56.485 --> 00:01:57.959
It's<00:01:56.629> really<00:01:56.854> a<00:01:56.870> source<00:01:57.206> of<00:01:57.430> wellbeing.
00:01:58.318 --> 00:02:00.223
I<00:01:58.550> want<00:01:58.799> work<00:01:59.047> to<00:01:59.146> be<00:01:59.378> meaningful<00:01:59.892> for<00:02:00.057> me.
00:02:03.054 --> 00:02:12.139
And<00:02:03.199> why<00:02:03.923> I<00:02:04.246> have<00:02:04.407> to<00:02:04.568> build<00:02:04.729> a<00:02:04.825> company<00:02:05.711> that<00:02:05.856> is<00:02:05.969> mission-driven<00:02:07.144> is<00:02:07.321> because<00:02:07.805> I<00:02:07.950> believe<00:02:08.513> in<00:02:08.690> the<00:02:08.771> power<00:02:09.560> of<00:02:10.784> business<00:02:11.186> to<00:02:11.331> transform<00:02:11.815> the<00:02:11.960> world.
00:02:12.237 --> 00:02:16.664
Today,<00:02:12.646> business<00:02:13.119> is<00:02:13.364> the<00:02:14.279> most<00:02:14.606> important<00:02:15.177> change<00:02:15.732> agent<00:02:15.994> in<00:02:16.141> the<00:02:16.239> world.
00:02:19.224 --> 00:02:31.250
And<00:02:19.724> so<00:02:22.304> it<00:02:22.385> was<00:02:22.546> important<00:02:23.094> to<00:02:23.207> me<00:02:24.143> that<00:02:24.562> I<00:02:24.707> can<00:02:24.965> put<00:02:25.433> in<00:02:26.112> in<00:02:26.417> service<00:02:27.012> of<00:02:27.076> that<00:02:27.300> business,<00:02:27.638> my<00:02:27.734> skills<00:02:28.184> of<00:02:28.280> building<00:02:28.585> scalable<00:02:29.163> high-growth<00:02:29.628> businesses<00:02:30.608> in<00:02:30.688> technology.
00:02:31.956 --> 00:02:34.573
And<00:02:32.374> software<00:02:32.791> specifically<00:02:33.578> is<00:02:33.658> really<00:02:33.883> what<00:02:33.979> creates<00:02:34.236> scale.
00:02:34.862 --> 00:02:40.883
So<00:02:35.087> you<00:02:35.183> can<00:02:35.649> really,<00:02:36.468> by<00:02:36.933> aligning<00:02:37.816> purpose<00:02:38.314> with<00:02:38.394> software,<00:02:38.860> you<00:02:39.037> can<00:02:39.839> amplify<00:02:40.305> your<00:02:40.562> impact.
00:02:41.429 --> 00:02:52.651
And<00:02:41.509> I<00:02:41.525> have<00:02:41.702> to<00:02:41.782> say,<00:02:42.745> it's<00:02:42.954> great<00:02:43.516> for<00:02:43.998> companies<00:02:44.495> because<00:02:45.619> being<00:02:45.924> a<00:02:45.940> mission-driven<00:02:46.486> company<00:02:47.064> enables<00:02:47.353> you<00:02:47.466> to<00:02:47.610> attract<00:02:47.931> the<00:02:48.027> best<00:02:48.268> talent,<00:02:48.830> enables<00:02:49.151> you<00:02:49.232> to<00:02:49.376> create<00:02:49.553> a<00:02:49.617> great<00:02:49.858> culture<00:02:50.275> to<00:02:50.355> retain<00:02:50.676> them,<00:02:51.319> enables<00:02:51.704> you<00:02:51.784> to<00:02:51.816> attract<00:02:52.105> more<00:02:52.266> funding.
00:02:52.764 --> 00:02:56.794
And<00:02:52.844> I<00:02:52.924> can<00:02:53.165> elaborate<00:02:53.566> why<00:02:54.209> today<00:02:54.530> this<00:02:54.771> is<00:02:55.092> more<00:02:55.252> important<00:02:55.975> and<00:02:56.055> more<00:02:56.216> real<00:02:56.456> than<00:02:56.617> ever.
00:02:58.207 --> 00:03:10.394
So,<00:02:59.170> and<00:02:59.266> attracted<00:02:59.973> more<00:03:00.133> customers,<00:03:00.952> around<00:03:01.851> 65%<00:03:02.719> of<00:03:02.879> customers<00:03:03.425> who<00:03:03.505> work<00:03:03.682> with<00:03:03.859> Oyster,<00:03:04.148> and<00:03:04.228> we<00:03:04.308> have<00:03:04.372> over<00:03:04.469> 1,000<00:03:05.079> customers,<00:03:06.476> they<00:03:06.652> said<00:03:06.974> they<00:03:07.696> picked<00:03:07.873> us<00:03:08.097> because<00:03:09.527> we<00:03:09.687> are<00:03:09.783> mission-driven.
00:03:10.763 --> 00:03:13.236
It<00:03:10.811> was<00:03:10.923> an<00:03:10.972> important<00:03:11.614> factor<00:03:12.112> in<00:03:12.176> their<00:03:12.336> decision-making<00:03:12.834> process.
00:03:14.343 --> 00:03:17.330
And<00:03:15.146> to<00:03:15.243> answer<00:03:15.484> the<00:03:15.564> last<00:03:15.789> piece<00:03:15.949> of<00:03:16.045> the<00:03:16.110> question,<00:03:16.447> why<00:03:16.688> B<00:03:16.913> Corp?
00:03:17.475 --> 00:03:19.289
And<00:03:17.571> we<00:03:17.651> wanted<00:03:17.972> to<00:03:18.053> be<00:03:18.277> B<00:03:18.438> Corp<00:03:18.631> since<00:03:18.936> day<00:03:19.096> one.
00:03:20.766 --> 00:03:26.284
Because<00:03:21.183> we<00:03:21.343> wanted<00:03:21.809> to<00:03:22.707> connect<00:03:23.669> our<00:03:25.113> legal<00:03:25.370> status<00:03:25.835> with<00:03:25.931> our<00:03:26.075> mission.
00:03:26.380 --> 00:03:28.995
We<00:03:26.444> want<00:03:26.573> to<00:03:26.621> put<00:03:26.958> mission<00:03:27.262> at<00:03:27.423> the<00:03:27.487> center<00:03:28.161> of<00:03:28.321> everything<00:03:28.706> we<00:03:28.802> do.
00:03:29.669 --> 00:03:35.106
And<00:03:30.070> having<00:03:30.390> this<00:03:30.567> external<00:03:30.952> validation,<00:03:33.037> B<00:03:33.198> Corp<00:03:33.518> is<00:03:33.615> a<00:03:33.695> pretty<00:03:34.272> extensive<00:03:34.657> process.
00:03:35.203 --> 00:03:38.844
They<00:03:35.299> check<00:03:36.021> about<00:03:37.144> many,<00:03:37.529> many<00:03:37.930> areas<00:03:38.266> of<00:03:38.347> your<00:03:38.491> business.
00:03:38.972 --> 00:03:46.864
And<00:03:39.069> we<00:03:39.149> wanted<00:03:39.534> to<00:03:39.630> make<00:03:39.726> sure<00:03:40.272> that<00:03:40.528> there<00:03:40.673> is<00:03:40.769> external<00:03:41.475> body<00:03:42.277> that<00:03:42.437> is<00:03:42.822> monitoring<00:03:43.496> and<00:03:43.624> assessing,<00:03:44.603> are<00:03:44.683> we<00:03:44.843> really<00:03:45.324> mission-driven<00:03:45.950> business?
00:03:47.009 --> 00:03:47.971
And<00:03:47.089> we<00:03:47.153> wanted<00:03:47.410> to<00:03:47.490> make<00:03:47.666> it<00:03:47.811> real.
00:03:49.095 --> 00:03:52.115
I<00:03:49.176> guess<00:03:49.401> the<00:03:49.481> follow-up<00:03:49.883> question<00:03:50.220> there<00:03:50.686> is,<00:03:51.007> what<00:03:51.184> is<00:03:51.425> Oyster's<00:03:51.826> mission?
00:03:53.031 --> 00:03:53.385
Mm-hmm.
00:03:54.236 --> 00:03:54.718
Great<00:03:54.461> question.
00:03:55.682 --> 00:04:01.465
So<00:03:56.244> we<00:03:56.469> are<00:03:56.565> here<00:03:57.031> to<00:03:57.127> empower<00:03:58.332> companies<00:03:58.878> around<00:03:59.055> the<00:03:59.200> world<00:03:59.939> to<00:04:00.099> employ<00:04:00.645> anyone,<00:04:01.127> anywhere.
00:04:02.188 --> 00:04:07.007
And<00:04:02.332> we<00:04:02.509> do<00:04:02.766> that<00:04:03.392> to<00:04:03.858> make<00:04:04.115> the<00:04:04.260> world<00:04:05.224> more<00:04:05.706> equal<00:04:06.268> and<00:04:06.428> more<00:04:06.605> free.
00:04:07.874 --> 00:04:29.376
And<00:04:08.292> by<00:04:08.758> more<00:04:09.031> equal,<00:04:09.963> we<00:04:10.059> believe<00:04:10.444> that<00:04:10.782> by<00:04:11.649> democratizing<00:04:12.629> opportunities<00:04:13.191> of<00:04:13.352> employment<00:04:14.059> for<00:04:14.155> people<00:04:14.942> all<00:04:15.039> around<00:04:15.280> the<00:04:15.360> world,<00:04:16.133> specifically<00:04:16.767> in<00:04:16.865> emerging<00:04:17.271> economies,<00:04:18.311> where<00:04:18.473> they<00:04:18.506> don't<00:04:18.701> have<00:04:18.945> access<00:04:19.140> to<00:04:19.205> the<00:04:19.286> same<00:04:19.530> opportunity<00:04:19.920> that<00:04:20.163> you<00:04:20.261> and<00:04:20.342> me<00:04:20.570> have<00:04:20.765> access<00:04:21.073> to,<00:04:22.989> we<00:04:23.086> can<00:04:23.248> really<00:04:23.572> improve<00:04:25.031> things<00:04:25.339> like<00:04:26.474> reduction<00:04:26.960> of<00:04:27.058> brain<00:04:27.382> drain,<00:04:28.176> wealth<00:04:28.436> inequality<00:04:28.987> reduction.
00:04:30.219 --> 00:04:34.704
There<00:04:30.397> is<00:04:30.608> this<00:04:31.175> famous<00:04:31.678> economist<00:04:32.001> called<00:04:32.323> Bryan<00:04:32.805> Caplan<00:04:33.433> from<00:04:33.690> George<00:04:33.916> Mason<00:04:34.189> University.
00:04:35.283 --> 00:04:43.199
He<00:04:35.525> argues<00:04:35.718> in<00:04:35.863> his<00:04:36.104> book<00:04:36.506> Open<00:04:36.828> Borders<00:04:37.777> that<00:04:37.938> if<00:04:38.019> you<00:04:38.115> remove<00:04:38.437> this<00:04:38.598> concept<00:04:39.016> of<00:04:39.242> border<00:04:39.628> from<00:04:39.869> talent<00:04:40.127> mobility,<00:04:41.356> you<00:04:41.452> can<00:04:41.853> triple<00:04:42.494> the<00:04:42.638> world<00:04:42.814> GDP.
00:04:44.514 --> 00:04:46.469
So<00:04:45.844> that's<00:04:46.165> our<00:04:46.261> mission.
00:04:46.582 --> 00:04:47.960
And<00:04:46.726> we're<00:04:46.886> very<00:04:47.063> excited<00:04:47.463> about<00:04:47.624> that.
00:04:48.088 --> 00:04:54.308
We<00:04:48.746> are<00:04:48.890> committed<00:04:49.211> of<00:04:49.291> sending<00:04:49.691> over<00:04:49.868> a<00:04:50.012> billion<00:04:50.349> dollars<00:04:51.230> of<00:04:51.391> foreign<00:04:51.631> direct<00:04:51.952> investment<00:04:52.433> into<00:04:52.593> emerging<00:04:52.914> economies<00:04:53.555> by<00:04:53.635> 2024.
00:04:55.799 --> 00:05:00.496
We<00:04:55.943> have<00:04:57.418> a<00:04:57.482> significant<00:04:58.043> percentage<00:04:58.540> of<00:04:58.669> our<00:04:58.765> business<00:04:59.390> in<00:04:59.630> emerging<00:04:59.887> economies.
00:05:00.993 --> 00:05:11.884
And<00:05:01.089> these<00:05:01.249> are<00:05:01.330> people<00:05:02.291> that<00:05:02.933> can<00:05:03.157> work<00:05:03.269> from<00:05:03.430> anywhere<00:05:03.975> and<00:05:04.039> they're<00:05:04.135> working<00:05:04.439> for<00:05:04.600> companies<00:05:05.177> in<00:05:05.257> the<00:05:05.417> Western<00:05:05.802> world<00:05:06.539> and<00:05:06.620> having<00:05:06.860> access<00:05:07.181> to<00:05:07.822> better<00:05:07.983> salary,<00:05:08.545> more<00:05:08.689> flexibility,<00:05:09.973> and<00:05:10.070> exposure<00:05:10.632> to<00:05:11.033> more<00:05:11.258> growth<00:05:11.450> opportunities.
00:05:12.944 --> 00:05:15.416
Well,<00:05:13.024> I<00:05:13.104> love<00:05:13.281> this<00:05:13.441> idea<00:05:13.682> of<00:05:13.762> democratizing<00:05:14.790> opportunities.
00:05:15.512 --> 00:05:21.276
That<00:05:15.625> seems<00:05:15.930> to<00:05:16.026> be<00:05:16.251> like<00:05:17.744> such<00:05:18.017> an<00:05:18.097> important<00:05:18.482> challenge<00:05:18.675> because<00:05:18.884> we<00:05:18.980> don't<00:05:19.285> all<00:05:20.040> start<00:05:20.409> out<00:05:20.505> in<00:05:20.585> the<00:05:20.666> same<00:05:20.987> place.
00:05:21.854 --> 00:05:22.271
Right.
00:05:22.833 --> 00:05:30.796
And<00:05:22.913> so<00:05:23.058> there's<00:05:23.218> all<00:05:23.331> this<00:05:23.556> like<00:05:23.796> talk<00:05:24.198> and<00:05:24.278> it's<00:05:24.423> become<00:05:24.663> like<00:05:24.840> political,<00:05:25.225> at<00:05:25.257> least<00:05:25.482> in<00:05:25.546> the<00:05:25.627> United<00:05:25.867> States,<00:05:26.140> around<00:05:26.429> like<00:05:26.606> equality<00:05:27.248> versus<00:05:27.714> equity<00:05:28.227> and<00:05:28.372> what<00:05:28.532> it—<00:05:29.014> what<00:05:29.126> do<00:05:29.191> they<00:05:29.335> mean<00:05:29.897> and<00:05:30.042> all<00:05:30.138> these<00:05:30.298> types<00:05:30.475> of<00:05:30.603> things.
00:05:30.860 --> 00:05:35.853
But<00:05:32.129> for<00:05:32.193> me,<00:05:32.482> equality<00:05:32.947> of<00:05:33.172> opportunity<00:05:33.830> makes<00:05:34.376> all<00:05:34.473> the<00:05:34.569> sense<00:05:34.954> in<00:05:35.099> the<00:05:35.275> world.
00:05:35.998 --> 00:05:42.103
I<00:05:36.030> don't<00:05:36.174> know<00:05:36.383> how<00:05:36.544> anyone<00:05:36.865> would<00:05:37.203> you<00:05:37.267> know,<00:05:37.381> figure<00:05:37.753> out<00:05:37.785> equality<00:05:38.238> of<00:05:38.319> outcome,<00:05:39.063> but,<00:05:39.451> uh,<00:05:39.936> equality<00:05:40.745> of<00:05:41.311> opportunity.
00:05:42.847 --> 00:05:50.997
And<00:05:43.333> I<00:05:43.575> love<00:05:43.818> what<00:05:43.980> you<00:05:44.077> said<00:05:44.562> there,<00:05:45.435> uh,<00:05:45.856> where<00:05:46.082> you<00:05:46.115> said<00:05:46.422> business<00:05:47.068> is<00:05:47.230> the<00:05:47.376> greatest<00:05:47.861> change<00:05:48.669> agent<00:05:49.154> of<00:05:49.235> our<00:05:49.413> time,<00:05:49.979> or<00:05:50.059> something<00:05:50.383> along<00:05:50.625> those<00:05:50.771> lines.
00:05:51.417 --> 00:05:55.233
That<00:05:51.514> might<00:05:51.676> be<00:05:51.838> paraphrasing<00:05:52.468> what<00:05:52.565> you<00:05:52.662> said,<00:05:53.519> and<00:05:54.327> I<00:05:54.424> agree<00:05:54.812> with<00:05:54.990> that.
00:05:55.621 --> 00:05:56.863
Why<00:05:55.879> do<00:05:55.944> you<00:05:56.090> think<00:05:56.283> that's<00:05:56.605> true?
00:05:57.008 --> 00:05:58.506
Because<00:05:57.233> that<00:05:57.395> hasn't<00:05:57.717> always<00:05:57.975> been<00:05:58.136> the<00:05:58.216> case.
00:05:59.666 --> 00:06:07.678
Because,<00:06:00.375> um,<00:06:02.325> for<00:06:02.486> a<00:06:02.663> number<00:06:02.889> of<00:06:02.985> reasons,<00:06:03.372> I<00:06:03.469> think<00:06:03.678> first,<00:06:04.339> uh,<00:06:05.107> business<00:06:05.608> in<00:06:05.754> general<00:06:06.498> attracts<00:06:06.967> the<00:06:07.064> best<00:06:07.306> talent.
00:06:07.791 --> 00:06:10.265
People<00:06:08.195> are<00:06:08.438> really<00:06:08.826> capable<00:06:09.392> of<00:06:09.489> changing<00:06:09.796> the<00:06:09.893> world.
00:06:11.250 --> 00:06:16.547
They<00:06:11.364> usually<00:06:11.853> gravitate<00:06:12.570> around<00:06:13.808> business<00:06:14.134> organization<00:06:14.786> compared<00:06:15.194> to<00:06:15.438> other<00:06:15.666> type<00:06:15.862> of<00:06:16.009> organizations.
00:06:19.028 --> 00:06:22.536
And<00:06:19.108> secondly<00:06:19.832> is<00:06:19.993> because<00:06:20.621> it<00:06:20.701> is<00:06:20.878> the<00:06:21.039> biggest<00:06:21.281> economical<00:06:21.763> force<00:06:22.085> in<00:06:22.150> the<00:06:22.246> world.
00:06:22.809 --> 00:06:26.253
I<00:06:22.826> mean,<00:06:23.115> today<00:06:24.805> businesses<00:06:25.207> has<00:06:25.449> a<00:06:25.529> lot<00:06:25.690> of<00:06:25.787> capital.
00:06:28.434 --> 00:06:38.973
They<00:06:28.533> move<00:06:28.780> capital,<00:06:29.176> they<00:06:29.209> make<00:06:29.440> investment<00:06:29.853> decisions,<00:06:30.595> they<00:06:33.108> They<00:06:33.496> lobby<00:06:33.754> governments<00:06:36.889> to<00:06:37.616> add<00:06:37.729> or<00:06:37.793> remove<00:06:38.197> regulations.
00:06:39.651 --> 00:06:40.443
They're<00:06:39.894> very<00:06:40.136> powerful.
00:06:40.524 --> 00:06:41.655
Businesses<00:06:40.863> are<00:06:41.025> very<00:06:41.267> powerful.
00:06:43.310 --> 00:06:47.809
A<00:06:43.326> vast<00:06:43.506> majority<00:06:43.997> of<00:06:44.471> the<00:06:44.569> world<00:06:45.289> wealth<00:06:45.878> is<00:06:45.960> stuck<00:06:46.451> in<00:06:46.762> assets<00:06:47.105> like<00:06:47.351> businesses.
00:06:50.384 --> 00:06:53.832
And<00:06:51.201> within<00:06:51.838> the<00:06:51.936> business,<00:06:52.426> I<00:06:52.443> mean,<00:06:52.655> we<00:06:52.753> can<00:06:52.917> segment<00:06:53.325> that<00:06:53.489> sector.
00:06:55.230 --> 00:07:03.792
Startups,<00:06:56.080> smaller<00:06:56.489> businesses<00:06:57.045> have<00:06:57.225> much<00:06:57.552> more<00:06:57.716> impact<00:06:57.994> than<00:06:58.206> bigger<00:06:58.452> businesses<00:06:58.943> because<00:06:59.253> bigger<00:06:59.515> businesses<00:07:00.355> they<00:07:00.436> have<00:07:00.583> developed<00:07:00.925> cash<00:07:01.251> cows<00:07:01.984> and<00:07:02.065> it's<00:07:02.147> really<00:07:02.375> hard<00:07:02.701> for<00:07:02.799> them<00:07:03.027> to<00:07:03.108> move<00:07:03.287> away<00:07:03.532> from<00:07:03.694> them.
00:07:03.857 --> 00:07:05.095
They<00:07:03.939> are<00:07:04.020> stuck<00:07:04.346> in<00:07:04.411> the<00:07:04.493> status<00:07:04.916> quo.
00:07:05.840 --> 00:07:08.619
Take,<00:07:05.952> for<00:07:06.032> instance,<00:07:07.398> name<00:07:07.623> any<00:07:07.864> oil<00:07:08.024> and<00:07:08.121> gas<00:07:08.346> company.
00:07:08.683 --> 00:07:14.917
I<00:07:08.699> mean,<00:07:08.860> of<00:07:09.005> course,<00:07:09.310> many<00:07:09.503> of<00:07:09.631> them<00:07:09.952> are<00:07:11.816> talking<00:07:12.137> a<00:07:12.153> lot<00:07:12.603> about<00:07:12.860> renewable,<00:07:13.728> the<00:07:13.889> future<00:07:14.130> of<00:07:14.226> renewable<00:07:14.612> energy.
00:07:15.126 --> 00:07:21.253
Some<00:07:15.351> of<00:07:15.495> them<00:07:15.592> are<00:07:15.625> making<00:07:15.917> investments,<00:07:16.958> but<00:07:17.690> over<00:07:17.886> 90%<00:07:18.764> of<00:07:18.927> their<00:07:19.333> revenues<00:07:19.740> and<00:07:19.886> profit<00:07:20.228> comes<00:07:20.456> from<00:07:20.781> oil<00:07:20.862> and<00:07:20.960> gas.
00:07:22.667 --> 00:07:31.016
So,<00:07:23.123> but<00:07:23.286> you<00:07:23.383> need,<00:07:23.595> you<00:07:23.627> need<00:07:23.920> these<00:07:24.262> upstarts<00:07:24.832> to<00:07:24.978> come<00:07:25.564> and<00:07:25.710> shake<00:07:26.290> these<00:07:26.738> larger<00:07:27.059> organizations<00:07:27.828> through<00:07:28.068> innovation<00:07:28.805> and<00:07:29.030> through<00:07:29.991> innovative<00:07:30.632> business<00:07:30.792> models.
00:07:31.593 --> 00:07:32.939
Yeah,<00:07:31.930> I<00:07:32.074> think<00:07:32.234> that's<00:07:32.475> right.
00:07:33.116 --> 00:07:35.503
I<00:07:33.196> think<00:07:33.356> what<00:07:33.452> you<00:07:33.532> said<00:07:33.772> there<00:07:33.917> is<00:07:34.013> really<00:07:34.237> important<00:07:34.654> and<00:07:34.734> really<00:07:35.038> interesting.
00:07:36.496 --> 00:07:44.156
You<00:07:36.577> know,<00:07:37.682> for<00:07:37.842> those<00:07:38.179> who<00:07:38.275> are<00:07:38.483> like<00:07:38.884> in<00:07:39.204> college<00:07:39.765> or<00:07:39.861> starting<00:07:40.246> their<00:07:40.406> career<00:07:40.983> and<00:07:41.079> they're<00:07:41.223> thinking<00:07:41.384> like,<00:07:41.544> how<00:07:41.640> do<00:07:41.768> I<00:07:41.800> make<00:07:42.105> the<00:07:42.329> biggest<00:07:42.746> impact<00:07:43.306> in<00:07:43.451> the<00:07:43.611> world?
00:07:44.749 --> 00:07:53.081
It<00:07:44.909> does<00:07:45.229> seem<00:07:45.550> like<00:07:46.495> entrepreneurship's<00:07:47.312> right<00:07:47.617> up<00:07:47.793> there<00:07:48.114> with<00:07:48.594> like<00:07:48.835> getting<00:07:49.075> into<00:07:49.235> politics<00:07:49.956> or<00:07:50.181> whatever<00:07:50.661> else<00:07:51.062> would<00:07:51.158> be<00:07:51.639> the<00:07:51.799> other<00:07:52.103> options,<00:07:52.600> right?
00:07:53.562 --> 00:07:58.471
Um,<00:07:54.284> and<00:07:54.749> I,<00:07:55.070> I<00:07:55.246> love<00:07:55.711> the—<00:07:56.353> I<00:07:56.514> love<00:07:56.754> how<00:07:57.316> equal<00:07:57.717> that<00:07:57.909> is,<00:07:58.278> right?
00:07:58.535 --> 00:08:01.359
Like<00:07:59.161> in<00:07:59.241> entrepreneurship,<00:07:59.835> again,<00:08:00.123> we<00:08:00.204> don't<00:08:00.380> all<00:08:00.476> start<00:08:00.861> the<00:08:00.942> same<00:08:01.182> spot.
00:08:01.423 --> 00:08:11.482
Some<00:08:01.583> people<00:08:01.808> have<00:08:02.241> far<00:08:02.546> bigger<00:08:02.787> advantages<00:08:03.412> than<00:08:03.573> others<00:08:04.391> when<00:08:04.535> they're<00:08:04.632> starting<00:08:05.033> a<00:08:05.113> company<00:08:05.899> or,<00:08:06.316> you<00:08:06.412> know,<00:08:06.862> uh,<00:08:07.118> building<00:08:07.375> a<00:08:07.439> startup,<00:08:08.001> or<00:08:08.145> maybe<00:08:08.386> they<00:08:08.466> have<00:08:09.188> family<00:08:09.669> and<00:08:09.766> friends<00:08:10.167> who<00:08:10.247> can<00:08:10.375> help<00:08:10.487> fund<00:08:10.712> them,<00:08:10.808> all<00:08:10.953> that<00:08:11.129> type<00:08:11.306> of<00:08:11.354> stuff.
00:08:11.530 --> 00:08:16.039
But<00:08:11.691> at<00:08:11.771> the<00:08:11.915> end<00:08:12.028> of<00:08:12.092> the<00:08:12.252> day,<00:08:12.718> like<00:08:12.974> the<00:08:13.135> best<00:08:13.600> entrepreneurs<00:08:14.161> win,<00:08:15.686> right?
00:08:16.809 --> 00:08:22.921
And<00:08:17.146> the<00:08:17.306> advantages<00:08:18.429> are<00:08:18.589> super<00:08:18.926> helpful,<00:08:19.376> don't<00:08:19.536> get<00:08:19.632> me<00:08:19.793> wrong,<00:08:20.258> but<00:08:20.354> at<00:08:20.499> the<00:08:20.595> end<00:08:20.691> of<00:08:20.739> the<00:08:20.836> day,<00:08:20.996> like<00:08:21.477> the<00:08:21.557> best<00:08:21.862> entrepreneurs<00:08:22.295> are<00:08:22.360> going<00:08:22.600> to<00:08:22.681> win.
00:08:23.628 --> 00:08:29.703
And<00:08:23.789> as<00:08:23.885> you<00:08:24.030> work<00:08:24.592> with<00:08:24.769> companies,<00:08:25.235> in<00:08:25.331> particular<00:08:25.798> startups,<00:08:27.501> what<00:08:27.806> about<00:08:28.224> Oyster<00:08:28.851> helps<00:08:29.172> them<00:08:29.429> win?
00:08:30.056 --> 00:08:31.454
What<00:08:30.169> about<00:08:30.458> distributed<00:08:31.036> teams?
00:08:31.518 --> 00:08:33.583
What<00:08:31.663> about<00:08:32.210> remote<00:08:32.630> works<00:08:33.034> helps<00:08:33.276> them<00:08:33.454> win?
00:08:34.261 --> 00:08:40.959
Well,<00:08:34.423> today,<00:08:36.782> successful<00:08:37.493> growing<00:08:37.897> businesses,<00:08:38.688> they<00:08:38.785> are<00:08:38.866> successful<00:08:39.335> and<00:08:39.415> growing<00:08:39.658> because<00:08:39.852> of<00:08:39.916> their<00:08:40.078> people,<00:08:40.750> right?
00:08:41.024 --> 00:08:43.120
Because<00:08:41.249> of<00:08:41.330> the<00:08:41.491> innovation<00:08:42.072> and<00:08:42.153> the<00:08:42.298> talent<00:08:42.556> they<00:08:42.717> attract.
00:08:44.233 --> 00:08:50.346
And<00:08:45.620> we<00:08:45.765> live<00:08:45.943> in<00:08:46.023> a<00:08:46.104> world<00:08:46.572> where<00:08:46.749> these<00:08:47.072> best<00:08:47.378> talent<00:08:47.733> in<00:08:47.862> the<00:08:47.959> world<00:08:49.655> is<00:08:49.816> in<00:08:49.896> shortage.

00:09:01.457 --> 00:09:06.178
So,<00:09:03.143> and<00:09:03.608> that's<00:09:04.331> regardless<00:09:04.973> of<00:09:05.054> the<00:09:05.134> economical<00:09:05.551> cycle<00:09:05.856> that<00:09:05.953> we're<00:09:06.113> in.
00:09:06.579 --> 00:09:25.183

I<00:12:04.795> mean,<00:12:05.151> as<00:12:05.491> I<00:12:05.556> understand<00:12:05.895> it,<00:12:05.960> you<00:12:06.057> grew<00:12:06.203> up<00:12:06.381> in<00:12:06.623> Beirut<00:12:08.564> during<00:12:08.888> the<00:12:09.373> Lebanese<00:12:10.150> Civil<00:12:10.489> War<00:12:11.379> in<00:12:11.476> the<00:12:11.703> '80s,<00:12:12.431> and<00:12:13.725> I<00:12:13.822> imagine,<00:12:14.470> like,<00:12:14.955> you,<00:12:15.117> I<00:12:15.198> mean,<00:12:15.359> I'm<00:12:15.505> sure<00:12:15.618> you<00:12:15.748> weren't<00:12:15.910> thinking<00:12:16.071> about,<00:12:16.249> how<00:12:16.492> do<00:12:16.654> I<00:12:16.670> start<00:12:16.961> a<00:12:17.042> company?
00:12:18.016 --> 00:12:20.278
And<00:12:18.193> distribute<00:12:18.738> all<00:12:19.075> this<00:12:19.172> type<00:12:19.236> of<00:12:19.332> stuff<00:12:19.557> at<00:12:19.637> that<00:12:19.877> point.
00:12:20.680 --> 00:12:28.813
But<00:12:20.824> I<00:12:20.904> imagine<00:12:21.257> this<00:12:21.466> idea<00:12:21.787> of<00:12:21.883> like,<00:12:22.188> man,<00:12:22.444> how<00:12:22.669> great<00:12:22.845> would<00:12:22.990> it<00:12:23.086> be<00:12:23.230> that<00:12:23.487> if<00:12:23.712> I<00:12:23.808> could<00:12:24.049> live<00:12:24.353> anywhere<00:12:25.878> and<00:12:25.958> have<00:12:26.134> the<00:12:26.214> same<00:12:26.599> opportunity<00:12:27.321> as<00:12:27.482> anyone<00:12:27.803> else<00:12:28.059> in<00:12:28.140> the<00:12:28.220> entire<00:12:28.621> world?
00:12:29.487 --> 00:12:30.706
Absolutely,<00:12:30.370> Clint.
00:12:30.931 --> 00:12:36.658
It<00:12:31.172> has<00:12:31.493> all<00:12:31.589> to<00:12:31.669> do<00:12:31.894> with<00:12:32.150> my<00:12:32.391> personal<00:12:32.792> journey<00:12:33.418> and<00:12:35.359> aligning<00:12:35.696> with<00:12:35.824> that<00:12:36.001> purpose,<00:12:36.466> right?
00:12:36.755 --> 00:12:41.247
So<00:12:36.803> I<00:12:36.947> left<00:12:37.188> my<00:12:37.348> home<00:12:37.525> country<00:12:37.846> when<00:12:37.942> I<00:12:37.990> was<00:12:38.102> 17<00:12:38.808> to<00:12:38.953> France<00:12:40.092> to<00:12:40.172> study<00:12:40.477> computer<00:12:40.749> science.
00:12:41.520 --> 00:12:47.535
And<00:12:41.776> when<00:12:42.643> I<00:12:42.739> got<00:12:42.883> to<00:12:42.979> France,<00:12:43.878> So<00:12:44.023> just<00:12:44.168> to<00:12:44.491> take<00:12:44.587> a<00:12:44.603> step<00:12:44.748> back,<00:12:45.070> Lebanon<00:12:45.377> is<00:12:45.715> one<00:12:45.876> of<00:12:45.957> the<00:12:46.021> most<00:12:46.343> unequal<00:12:46.681> countries<00:12:47.004> in<00:12:47.068> the<00:12:47.165> world.
00:12:47.825 --> 00:12:49.549
It's<00:12:47.970> a<00:12:48.035> failed<00:12:48.228> state,<00:12:48.792> it's<00:12:48.937> a<00:12:49.001> corrupt<00:12:49.259> government.
00:12:50.330 --> 00:12:54.915
There's<00:12:50.508> really<00:12:51.091> no<00:12:51.512> serious<00:12:52.695> growth<00:12:52.970> opportunity<00:12:53.586> for<00:12:53.699> the<00:12:54.396> youth<00:12:54.801> there.
00:12:55.222 --> 00:12:58.852
That's<00:12:55.627> why<00:12:55.789> you<00:12:55.935> have<00:12:56.681> a<00:12:56.697> massive<00:12:57.167> Lebanese<00:12:57.555> diaspora<00:12:58.284> everywhere<00:12:58.463> in<00:12:58.609> the<00:12:58.690> world.
00:12:58.965 --> 00:13:03.014
That's<00:12:59.192> why<00:12:59.338> the<00:12:59.370> Lebanese<00:12:59.759> cuisine<00:12:59.969> is<00:13:00.148> so<00:13:01.288> widespread<00:13:02.183> around<00:13:02.525> the<00:13:02.607> world.
00:13:05.110 --> 00:13:11.127
But<00:13:05.158> essentially,<00:13:06.772> when<00:13:07.278> I<00:13:07.343> landed<00:13:07.669> in<00:13:07.750> France<00:13:08.158> and<00:13:08.239> I<00:13:08.256> started<00:13:08.549> studying<00:13:08.973> there,<00:13:09.666> The<00:13:09.907> French<00:13:10.164> government<00:13:10.565> came<00:13:10.806> to<00:13:10.902> me.
00:13:11.287 --> 00:13:15.508
I<00:13:11.351> wasn't<00:13:11.592> French<00:13:11.785> at<00:13:11.849> that<00:13:12.041> time,<00:13:12.731> and<00:13:13.197> they<00:13:13.293> said,<00:13:13.935> they<00:13:14.096> gave<00:13:14.224> me<00:13:14.336> €350<00:13:15.219> per<00:13:15.283> month.
00:13:16.740 --> 00:13:18.092
I<00:13:16.760> said,<00:13:16.968> why<00:13:17.145> do<00:13:17.386> you<00:13:17.466> guys<00:13:17.626> are<00:13:17.707> giving<00:13:17.883> me<00:13:17.947> money?
00:13:18.188 --> 00:13:19.151
I'm<00:13:18.300> not<00:13:18.525> even<00:13:18.734> French.
00:13:19.793 --> 00:13:21.928
And<00:13:19.873> they<00:13:19.953> said,<00:13:20.114> because<00:13:20.435> we<00:13:20.579> want<00:13:20.820> you<00:13:20.997> to<00:13:21.093> focus<00:13:21.478> on<00:13:21.542> your<00:13:21.623> studies.
00:13:22.521 --> 00:13:27.063
We<00:13:22.666> want<00:13:22.778> you<00:13:22.907> to<00:13:23.003> have<00:13:23.388> equal<00:13:23.629> opportunities<00:13:24.094> with<00:13:24.223> other<00:13:24.367> people<00:13:24.993> and<00:13:25.089> not<00:13:25.314> worry<00:13:25.571> about<00:13:26.293> paying<00:13:26.758> rent.
00:13:27.657 --> 00:13:29.776
And<00:13:27.721> that<00:13:27.898> touched<00:13:28.203> me<00:13:28.299> really<00:13:28.700> at<00:13:28.925> a<00:13:28.957> deep<00:13:29.503> level.
00:13:30.209 --> 00:13:47.411
And<00:13:31.653> I<00:13:31.830> realized<00:13:33.338> actually<00:13:33.836> there's<00:13:33.996> a<00:13:34.061> whole<00:13:34.382> different<00:13:34.638> world<00:13:34.943> out<00:13:35.120> there<00:13:35.842> that<00:13:36.485> cares<00:13:36.983> about<00:13:37.675> equal<00:13:37.851> opportunity,<00:13:40.503> but<00:13:40.889> 80%<00:13:41.227> of<00:13:41.452> the<00:13:41.532> world<00:13:41.693> population<00:13:42.335> is<00:13:42.416> living<00:13:42.609> in<00:13:42.753> countries<00:13:43.219> that<00:13:43.702> are<00:13:44.829> not<00:13:45.333> appropriate<00:13:46.291> for<00:13:46.550> human<00:13:47.038> growth.
00:13:48.889 --> 00:13:58.982
And<00:13:49.571> so<00:13:50.350> because<00:13:50.594> they<00:13:50.691> rely<00:13:51.016> on<00:13:51.178> this<00:13:52.623> corrupt<00:13:52.802> governments,<00:13:53.835> poor<00:13:54.012> infrastructure<00:13:55.787> economies,<00:13:56.433> and<00:13:56.513> what<00:13:56.594> they<00:13:56.755> do<00:13:56.852> is<00:13:56.917> they<00:13:57.223> leave<00:13:57.562> their<00:13:57.708> home<00:13:57.885> countries<00:13:58.192> and<00:13:58.272> they<00:13:58.450> brain<00:13:58.756> drain.
00:13:59.499 --> 00:14:07.967
And<00:13:59.596> many<00:14:00.209> of<00:14:00.306> these<00:14:00.548> economies,<00:14:01.300> they<00:14:01.558> are<00:14:01.671> not<00:14:02.123> able<00:14:02.607> to<00:14:02.785> compete<00:14:03.834> and<00:14:04.641> grow<00:14:05.852> in<00:14:05.949> a<00:14:06.014> healthy<00:14:06.336> way<00:14:06.498> because<00:14:06.821> they're<00:14:07.208> losing<00:14:07.386> their<00:14:07.531> best<00:14:07.693> talent.
00:14:09.000 --> 00:14:37.205
So<00:14:09.743> it<00:14:09.872> became<00:14:10.614> really<00:14:11.566> apparent<00:14:12.050> to<00:14:12.130> me<00:14:13.518> in<00:14:14.163> late<00:14:14.389> 2019,<00:14:15.695> I<00:14:15.856> took<00:14:16.018> a<00:14:16.340> year<00:14:16.485> and<00:14:16.566> a<00:14:16.582> half<00:14:16.889> off<00:14:17.227> from<00:14:17.453> a<00:14:17.550> previous<00:14:17.792> business<00:14:20.599> and<00:14:21.566> I<00:14:21.583> was<00:14:21.744> really<00:14:23.292> seeking<00:14:23.841> to<00:14:24.067> clarify<00:14:24.470> my<00:14:24.648> purpose<00:14:24.986> here<00:14:25.357> and<00:14:26.083> it<00:14:26.164> became<00:14:26.567> evident<00:14:26.825> to<00:14:26.970> me<00:14:27.228> that<00:14:28.930> my<00:14:29.092> purpose<00:14:31.371> is<00:14:32.017> connected<00:14:33.068> to<00:14:34.506> reversing<00:14:34.845> brain<00:14:35.072> drain<00:14:35.395> and<00:14:35.670> addressing<00:14:35.993> some<00:14:36.219> of<00:14:36.300> the<00:14:36.461> inequality<00:14:36.865> in<00:14:36.930> the<00:14:37.027> world.
00:14:38.030 --> 00:14:40.391
Why<00:14:38.062> did<00:14:38.224> you<00:14:38.450> choose<00:14:38.871> France<00:14:40.084> to<00:14:40.245> go?
00:14:41.216 --> 00:14:43.092
I<00:14:41.232> mean,<00:14:41.766> what<00:14:42.170> made<00:14:42.332> you<00:14:42.413> choose<00:14:42.671> that<00:14:42.833> country?
00:14:43.157 --> 00:14:48.096
Obviously<00:14:43.561> beautiful<00:14:43.884> country,<00:14:44.612> beautiful<00:14:44.920> people,<00:14:45.744> but<00:14:46.699> out<00:14:46.780> of<00:14:46.877> anywhere<00:14:47.184> you<00:14:47.232> could<00:14:47.330> have<00:14:47.444> gone,<00:14:47.688> why<00:14:47.852> there?
00:14:49.157 --> 00:14:50.968
To<00:14:49.238> be<00:14:49.320> honest,<00:14:49.646> I<00:14:49.663> didn't<00:14:49.809> have<00:14:49.973> any<00:14:50.119> other<00:14:50.217> choice,<00:14:50.854> right?
00:14:51.017 --> 00:14:53.432
So<00:14:51.131> it's<00:14:51.262> not<00:14:51.425> like<00:14:51.669> I<00:14:51.686> had<00:14:51.833> the<00:14:51.914> luxury<00:14:52.338> of<00:14:52.583> choice<00:14:52.746> at<00:14:52.909> the<00:14:53.138> time.
00:14:54.628 --> 00:14:59.538
Lebanon<00:14:56.473> was<00:14:57.355> a<00:14:57.516> French<00:14:57.853> colony.
00:14:59.762 --> 00:15:03.116
French<00:15:00.179> is<00:15:01.768> like<00:15:02.185> a<00:15:02.330> second<00:15:02.650> language.
00:15:03.228 --> 00:15:04.030
Everybody<00:15:03.405> speaks<00:15:03.693> French.
00:15:04.111 --> 00:15:05.089
I<00:15:04.191> was<00:15:04.496> fluent<00:15:04.752> in<00:15:04.833> French.
00:15:05.154 --> 00:15:10.176
I<00:15:05.956> presented<00:15:06.277> my<00:15:06.357> French<00:15:06.678> baccalauréat<00:15:07.560> when<00:15:07.705> I<00:15:07.721> was<00:15:08.138> in<00:15:08.283> Lebanon<00:15:08.684> back<00:15:08.780> when<00:15:09.245> I<00:15:09.486> was<00:15:09.598> 17.
00:15:10.705 --> 00:15:26.449
So,<00:15:11.957> and<00:15:12.053> by<00:15:13.562> accident,<00:15:14.043> you<00:15:14.075> know,<00:15:14.203> I<00:15:14.300> wasn't<00:15:14.540> even<00:15:14.765> planning,<00:15:16.145> my<00:15:16.466> school<00:15:17.413> had<00:15:17.749> a<00:15:17.990> relationship<00:15:19.274> with<00:15:19.434> the<00:15:19.595> university<00:15:20.092> in<00:15:20.237> France<00:15:20.878> and<00:15:21.023> they<00:15:21.183> came<00:15:22.308> to<00:15:22.727> select<00:15:23.194> few<00:15:24.016> lucky<00:15:24.258> people<00:15:24.999> from<00:15:25.224> the<00:15:25.305> class,<00:15:25.627> and<00:15:25.772> I<00:15:25.869> was<00:15:26.014> on<00:15:26.127> that<00:15:26.256> list.
00:15:27.061 --> 00:15:30.429
And<00:15:27.158> then<00:15:27.303> suddenly<00:15:27.625> I<00:15:27.657> had,<00:15:27.948> oh,<00:15:28.608> maybe<00:15:29.414> I<00:15:29.639> should<00:15:29.801> seize<00:15:29.962> that<00:15:30.074> opportunity.
00:15:32.007 --> 00:15:33.685
It<00:15:32.153> really<00:15:32.398> wasn't<00:15:32.821> a<00:15:32.903> planned<00:15:33.424> move.
00:15:37.670 --> 00:15:39.227
Yeah,<00:15:38.014> it<00:15:38.342> was<00:15:38.440> just<00:15:38.686> out<00:15:38.785> of<00:15:38.850> necessity.
00:15:41.367 --> 00:15:45.297
And<00:15:41.514> I<00:15:41.530> like<00:15:41.774> the<00:15:41.840> idea<00:15:42.101> that—<00:15:42.932> I<00:15:42.949> don't<00:15:43.095> like<00:15:43.405> the<00:15:43.487> idea,<00:15:43.731> but<00:15:43.960> you<00:15:44.074> had<00:15:44.302> no<00:15:44.530> choice,<00:15:45.036> right?
00:15:45.362 --> 00:15:54.085
Like,<00:15:45.672> and<00:15:45.884> sometimes<00:15:47.933> there's,<00:15:48.254> there's<00:15:48.479> some<00:15:48.560> kind<00:15:48.672> of<00:15:48.736> beautiful<00:15:49.138> things<00:15:49.443> that<00:15:49.539> come<00:15:49.716> out<00:15:49.941> of<00:15:51.049> just<00:15:51.226> making<00:15:51.531> the<00:15:51.627> best<00:15:51.884> of<00:15:51.949> the<00:15:52.029> situation<00:15:52.575> that<00:15:52.736> you're<00:15:52.896> in,<00:15:53.057> which<00:15:53.217> obviously<00:15:53.619> you've<00:15:53.796> done.
00:15:54.743 --> 00:15:59.835
I<00:15:54.920> want<00:15:55.273> to<00:15:55.321> pivot<00:15:55.562> a<00:15:55.578> little<00:15:55.803> bit<00:15:56.044> to<00:15:56.205> like<00:15:56.365> the<00:15:56.510> whole<00:15:56.606> mission<00:15:57.008> of<00:15:57.650> Oyster<00:15:58.518> and<00:15:58.759> the<00:15:58.839> future<00:15:59.176> of<00:15:59.401> work.
00:16:00.445 --> 00:16:10.066
And<00:16:00.766> I<00:16:00.863> know<00:16:01.039> this<00:16:01.248> is<00:16:01.328> a<00:16:01.489> big<00:16:01.666> topic<00:16:02.083> of<00:16:02.148> debate,<00:16:02.389> particularly<00:16:02.806> in<00:16:02.870> the<00:16:02.951> tech<00:16:03.176> community,<00:16:03.513> but<00:16:03.657> I<00:16:03.738> imagine<00:16:04.091> in<00:16:04.220> every<00:16:04.557> industry,<00:16:06.548> whether,<00:16:07.030> you<00:16:07.111> know,<00:16:07.448> post-COVID,<00:16:08.636> we're<00:16:08.733> now<00:16:08.958> post-COVID,<00:16:09.921> right?
00:16:10.114 --> 00:16:11.913
So<00:16:10.259> people<00:16:10.500> can<00:16:10.821> come<00:16:10.981> back<00:16:11.222> to<00:16:11.319> the<00:16:11.544> office.
00:16:13.712 --> 00:16:18.909
Whether<00:16:14.033> they<00:16:14.113> should,<00:16:14.899> and<00:16:15.236> should<00:16:15.412> it<00:16:15.476> be<00:16:15.573> more<00:16:15.861> hybrid<00:16:16.343> or<00:16:16.439> should<00:16:16.760> they<00:16:17.161> keep<00:16:17.482> doing<00:16:17.802> remote<00:16:18.123> work<00:16:18.364> and<00:16:18.428> all<00:16:18.460> this<00:16:18.604> type<00:16:18.653> of<00:16:18.749> stuff?
00:16:19.246 --> 00:16:30.844
And<00:16:19.326> it's<00:16:19.487> a<00:16:19.647> real<00:16:20.032> challenge,<00:16:20.513> I<00:16:20.674> think,<00:16:20.834> for<00:16:20.995> a<00:16:21.091> lot<00:16:21.315> of<00:16:21.412> leaders<00:16:21.813> and<00:16:21.957> a<00:16:22.037> lot<00:16:22.214> of<00:16:22.294> CEOs<00:16:22.936> to<00:16:23.032> make<00:16:23.321> this<00:16:23.497> decision,<00:16:24.925> um,<00:16:25.406> of<00:16:25.566> like,<00:16:25.743> hey,<00:16:25.984> do<00:16:26.128> we<00:16:26.224> go<00:16:26.449> hybrid<00:16:26.850> where<00:16:27.026> they're<00:16:27.187> coming<00:16:27.491> in<00:16:27.732> 3<00:16:27.909> days<00:16:28.149> a<00:16:28.229> week,<00:16:28.454> 2<00:16:28.566> days<00:16:28.807> a<00:16:28.871> week,<00:16:29.176> the<00:16:29.272> other<00:16:29.433> days<00:16:29.673> they're,<00:16:29.994> they're<00:16:30.138> working<00:16:30.459> from<00:16:30.620> home?
00:16:31.277 --> 00:16:32.208
How<00:16:31.374> do<00:16:31.518> we<00:16:31.759> do<00:16:31.999> this?
00:16:32.320 --> 00:16:33.844
How<00:16:32.480> should<00:16:32.705> we<00:16:32.881> think<00:16:33.058> about<00:16:33.443> this?
00:16:34.470 --> 00:16:40.309
Um,<00:16:34.790> and<00:16:34.887> you,<00:16:35.191> like,<00:16:35.528> like<00:16:35.753> you,<00:16:36.074> you<00:16:36.170> mentioned<00:16:36.555> here,<00:16:36.715> you're<00:16:36.892> a<00:16:37.116> fully<00:16:37.437> distributed<00:16:37.935> company<00:16:39.057> in<00:16:39.362> 80<00:16:39.683> countries.
00:16:41.619 --> 00:16:42.685
What<00:16:41.813> is<00:16:41.942> your<00:16:42.039> advice?
00:16:42.992 --> 00:16:45.559
How<00:16:43.557> could<00:16:43.880> anyone<00:16:44.704> replicate<00:16:45.269> that?
00:16:46.641 --> 00:16:48.030
It<00:16:46.722> is<00:16:46.819> not<00:16:46.964> that<00:16:47.206> complicated,<00:16:47.772> actually.
00:16:48.078 --> 00:16:54.658
The<00:16:48.175> things<00:16:48.417> that<00:16:48.563> you<00:16:48.595> need<00:16:48.740> to<00:16:48.886> do<00:16:50.016> to<00:16:50.113> be<00:16:50.420> a<00:16:51.050> successful<00:16:51.394> distributed<00:16:51.902> company<00:16:52.624> is<00:16:53.034> the<00:16:53.067> same<00:16:53.362> thing<00:16:53.526> you<00:16:53.559> need<00:16:53.641> to<00:16:53.788> do<00:16:53.952> to<00:16:54.100> be<00:16:54.182> a<00:16:54.198> great<00:16:54.428> company.
00:16:55.810 --> 00:17:01.688
So,<00:16:56.633> one<00:16:56.956> is<00:16:57.134> you<00:16:57.215> need<00:16:57.376> to<00:16:58.329> intentionally<00:16:58.765> build<00:16:58.975> trust<00:17:00.025> because<00:17:00.283> you're<00:17:00.364> not<00:17:00.509> seeing<00:17:00.687> the<00:17:00.848> person<00:17:01.252> in<00:17:01.333> seat.
00:17:04.534 --> 00:17:15.102
You<00:17:04.583> know,<00:17:06.165> as<00:17:06.407> we<00:17:06.488> transition<00:17:06.972> from<00:17:07.134> the<00:17:07.295> industrial<00:17:07.650> revolution<00:17:08.490> to<00:17:08.667> the<00:17:08.748> new<00:17:08.990> age<00:17:09.168> of<00:17:09.539> knowledge<00:17:09.943> work,<00:17:10.912> We<00:17:11.153> inherited<00:17:12.100> from<00:17:12.261> the<00:17:12.341> management<00:17:12.919> techniques<00:17:13.641> and<00:17:13.866> behaviors<00:17:14.604> of<00:17:14.685> that<00:17:14.925> era.
00:17:15.166 --> 00:17:21.427
When<00:17:15.311> you<00:17:15.407> go<00:17:15.551> to<00:17:15.648> business<00:17:15.889> school,<00:17:16.129> they<00:17:16.290> teach<00:17:16.515> you<00:17:17.253> the<00:17:17.317> stuff<00:17:17.879> that<00:17:18.056> were<00:17:18.521> valid<00:17:18.858> 100<00:17:19.757> years<00:17:19.966> ago<00:17:20.239> in<00:17:20.705> terms<00:17:20.849> of<00:17:20.945> management.
00:17:21.925 --> 00:17:33.274
So<00:17:23.096> yeah,<00:17:24.413> so<00:17:24.734> essentially,<00:17:26.708> you<00:17:27.704> as<00:17:27.784> a<00:17:27.816> manager,<00:17:28.956> you<00:17:29.036> have<00:17:29.277> that<00:17:29.373> chip<00:17:29.775> in<00:17:29.855> your<00:17:29.951> mind<00:17:30.417> that<00:17:30.577> tells<00:17:30.802> you<00:17:30.898> if<00:17:31.043> the<00:17:31.123> person<00:17:31.460> is<00:17:31.540> in<00:17:31.637> seed,<00:17:31.942> that<00:17:32.166> means<00:17:32.231> the<00:17:32.423> person<00:17:32.744> is<00:17:32.889> productive.
00:17:33.868 --> 00:17:37.721
So<00:17:34.013> you<00:17:34.093> have<00:17:34.269> to<00:17:34.510> delete<00:17:34.895> that<00:17:35.072> chip<00:17:35.618> and<00:17:35.955> start<00:17:36.276> trusting<00:17:36.677> people<00:17:36.934> more<00:17:37.223> intentionally.
00:17:38.283 --> 00:17:47.242
And<00:17:38.427> when<00:17:38.925> you<00:17:39.070> default<00:17:40.274> to<00:17:40.434> trusting<00:17:40.916> relationships<00:17:41.574> and<00:17:41.655> behaviors,<00:17:43.180> your<00:17:43.903> team<00:17:44.127> flourishes<00:17:45.492> because<00:17:45.669> they<00:17:45.749> feel<00:17:46.134> that<00:17:46.279> you<00:17:46.311> trust<00:17:46.552> them<00:17:46.712> as<00:17:46.873> a<00:17:46.937> manager.
00:17:47.692 --> 00:17:52.348
So<00:17:47.772> number<00:17:48.061> one<00:17:48.222> is<00:17:48.318> building<00:17:48.559> trust<00:17:49.265> intentionally<00:17:51.369> makes<00:17:51.674> you<00:17:51.770> a<00:17:51.851> great<00:17:52.011> company.
00:17:53.071 --> 00:17:58.932
So<00:17:54.741> whether<00:17:54.966> you're<00:17:55.239> remote<00:17:55.624> or<00:17:55.672> not,<00:17:55.865> but<00:17:56.106> it<00:17:56.491> becomes<00:17:56.748> a<00:17:56.764> necessity<00:17:57.374> for<00:17:57.454> you<00:17:57.615> to<00:17:57.711> do<00:17:57.808> it<00:17:58.032> in<00:17:58.113> a<00:17:58.129> remote<00:17:58.434> environment.
00:17:59.477 --> 00:18:01.099
In<00:17:59.558> the<00:17:59.718> office,<00:17:59.895> you<00:18:00.023> can<00:18:00.104> get<00:18:00.200> away<00:18:00.666> without<00:18:00.907> that.
00:18:01.741 --> 00:18:13.284
Secondly<00:18:02.432> is<00:18:03.655> What<00:18:03.802> is<00:18:03.900> important<00:18:04.960> in<00:18:05.368> building<00:18:06.101> a<00:18:06.183> great<00:18:06.346> distributed<00:18:06.672> company<00:18:07.161> is<00:18:07.259> to<00:18:07.406> be<00:18:07.553> clear<00:18:07.797> about<00:18:08.042> how<00:18:08.205> you<00:18:08.303> work,<00:18:09.340> to<00:18:09.404> define<00:18:10.096> the<00:18:10.354> methods<00:18:11.143> of<00:18:11.288> collaboration<00:18:12.431> and<00:18:12.592> communication.
00:18:14.202 --> 00:18:20.256
Luckily<00:18:14.460> now<00:18:14.685> there's<00:18:14.926> a<00:18:14.943> lot<00:18:15.071> of<00:18:15.410> technology<00:18:15.973> that<00:18:16.134> enables<00:18:16.440> us<00:18:16.537> to<00:18:16.633> be<00:18:16.778> effective<00:18:17.277> no<00:18:17.358> matter<00:18:17.583> where<00:18:17.728> we<00:18:17.889> are,<00:18:18.549> but<00:18:18.694> you<00:18:18.775> have<00:18:18.920> to<00:18:19.580> code<00:18:20.079> that.
00:18:20.385 --> 00:18:29.706
You<00:18:20.465> have<00:18:20.658> to<00:18:21.447> spell<00:18:22.011> how<00:18:22.333> do<00:18:22.478> you<00:18:22.961> do<00:18:23.122> meetings,<00:18:23.685> how<00:18:23.943> do<00:18:24.168> you<00:18:26.036> collaborate<00:18:26.760> asynchronously,<00:18:27.646> what<00:18:28.614> tools<00:18:28.887> do<00:18:29.040> you<00:18:29.109> use<00:18:29.382> for<00:18:29.535> what.
00:18:30.363 --> 00:18:39.049
And<00:18:31.085> by<00:18:31.310> doing<00:18:31.503> so,<00:18:31.728> by<00:18:31.808> being<00:18:32.113> clear<00:18:32.611> about<00:18:32.852> how<00:18:32.996> you<00:18:33.157> work<00:18:33.253> together,<00:18:33.574> you<00:18:33.654> increase<00:18:33.959> the<00:18:33.992> productivity<00:18:34.425> in<00:18:34.457> the<00:18:34.537> business<00:18:35.099> and<00:18:35.244> you<00:18:35.340> create<00:18:35.645> more<00:18:35.742> predictability<00:18:37.267> in<00:18:37.749> the<00:18:37.829> behavior<00:18:38.536> as<00:18:38.632> a<00:18:38.696> leader.
00:18:39.660 --> 00:18:43.770
And<00:18:39.820> you<00:18:41.121> create<00:18:41.924> more<00:18:42.245> fulfillment<00:18:42.726> and<00:18:42.887> more<00:18:42.951> engagement<00:18:43.465> as<00:18:43.593> well.
00:18:44.814 --> 00:18:48.234
Again,<00:18:45.295> whether<00:18:45.520> you're<00:18:45.681> in<00:18:45.713> the<00:18:45.857> office<00:18:46.179> or<00:18:46.243> not,<00:18:47.302> that<00:18:47.463> makes<00:18:47.624> you<00:18:47.704> a<00:18:47.768> great<00:18:47.929> company.
00:18:49.004 --> 00:18:52.794
So,<00:18:49.470> but<00:18:49.695> being<00:18:49.952> remote<00:18:50.498> forces<00:18:50.995> you<00:18:51.798> to<00:18:51.879> think<00:18:52.119> about<00:18:52.360> how<00:18:52.521> you<00:18:52.665> work.
00:18:54.030 --> 00:18:58.775
And<00:18:54.287> the<00:18:54.432> third<00:18:54.849> aspect<00:18:56.363> is<00:18:56.835> really<00:18:57.080> around<00:18:57.341> being<00:18:57.585> clear<00:18:57.895> how<00:18:58.009> do<00:18:58.058> you<00:18:58.139> measure<00:18:58.400> performance.
00:19:00.648 --> 00:19:22.543
Similar<00:19:01.181> to<00:19:02.246> when<00:19:03.134> you<00:19:03.214> were<00:19:03.295> in<00:19:03.376> the<00:19:03.602> office,<00:19:05.313> we<00:19:05.474> confuse<00:19:05.959> presence<00:19:06.346> with<00:19:06.507> performance,<00:19:07.072> but<00:19:07.250> essentially<00:19:07.960> we<00:19:07.992> didn't<00:19:08.299> felt<00:19:08.606> the<00:19:08.638> need<00:19:09.090> necessarily<00:19:09.590> to<00:19:09.720> build<00:19:10.315> sophisticated<00:19:13.229> objective<00:19:14.163> and<00:19:14.324> key<00:19:14.437> result<00:19:14.823> systems<00:19:15.306> that<00:19:15.532> enables<00:19:15.854> you<00:19:16.015> to<00:19:16.675> define<00:19:17.303> what<00:19:17.416> success<00:19:17.786> looks<00:19:17.947> like<00:19:18.188> on<00:19:18.269> an<00:19:18.366> individual<00:19:18.768> level,<00:19:19.090> on<00:19:19.171> a<00:19:19.300> team<00:19:19.499> level,<00:19:19.748> at<00:19:19.847> a<00:19:19.913> company<00:19:20.212> level,<00:19:20.411> and<00:19:20.494> then<00:19:20.660> connect<00:19:21.075> all<00:19:21.224> these<00:19:21.850> parameters<00:19:22.196> together.
00:19:22.956 --> 00:19:24.954
So<00:19:23.534> again,<00:19:23.947> that<00:19:24.178> makes<00:19:24.343> you<00:19:24.426> a<00:19:24.442> great<00:19:24.591> company.
00:19:26.150 --> 00:19:38.305
So<00:19:26.649> that's<00:19:26.891> what<00:19:27.230> leaders<00:19:27.536> have<00:19:27.697> to<00:19:27.794> do,<00:19:28.036> whether<00:19:28.278> in<00:19:28.358> the<00:19:28.520> office<00:19:28.842> or<00:19:28.874> not,<00:19:30.051> build<00:19:30.277> trust<00:19:31.099> intentionally,<00:19:33.663> be<00:19:33.759> clear<00:19:34.162> about<00:19:34.404> how<00:19:34.630> you<00:19:34.791> work,<00:19:36.906> and<00:19:36.986> then<00:19:37.147> be<00:19:37.292> clear<00:19:37.533> how<00:19:37.629> you<00:19:37.726> measure<00:19:37.951> success.
00:19:39.302 --> 00:19:43.900
And<00:19:39.398> that's<00:19:39.639> why<00:19:40.282> distributed<00:19:40.668> companies<00:19:41.311> are<00:19:41.890> the<00:19:41.971> companies<00:19:42.357> gonna<00:19:42.453> be<00:19:42.839> the<00:19:42.935> best<00:19:43.112> companies<00:19:43.434> of<00:19:43.579> tomorrow.
00:19:44.810 --> 00:19:50.028
They're<00:19:45.266> gonna<00:19:45.478> have<00:19:45.658> these<00:19:45.772> superpowers,<00:19:47.435> and<00:19:47.778> they're<00:19:48.674> gonna<00:19:48.919> also<00:19:49.229> attract<00:19:49.506> the<00:19:49.637> best<00:19:49.881> talent.
00:19:51.030 --> 00:20:02.723
When<00:19:51.421> Airbnb<00:19:53.311> announced<00:19:53.947> that<00:19:54.110> they,<00:19:54.436> they<00:19:54.599> are<00:19:54.713> now<00:19:55.251> a<00:19:55.267> remote<00:19:55.593> company,<00:19:57.120> their<00:19:59.003> career<00:19:59.345> site<00:20:00.238> traffic<00:20:00.790> went<00:20:01.115> 10x<00:20:02.089> in<00:20:02.187> 5<00:20:02.495> days.
00:20:04.480 --> 00:20:08.602
Oyster,<00:20:04.996> we,<00:20:05.640> we<00:20:05.704> used<00:20:05.865> to<00:20:06.123> hire<00:20:06.300> a<00:20:06.428> lot<00:20:06.541> of<00:20:06.670> people<00:20:07.587> a<00:20:07.797> couple<00:20:07.974> of<00:20:08.054> years<00:20:08.231> ago.
00:20:08.682 --> 00:20:23.468
We<00:20:08.763> used<00:20:08.924> to<00:20:09.020> receive<00:20:09.358> 13,000<00:20:11.660> job<00:20:11.982> applications<00:20:12.562> per<00:20:12.675> month<00:20:13.125> for<00:20:13.206> a<00:20:13.286> company<00:20:13.592> that<00:20:13.657> is<00:20:13.785> not<00:20:14.027> even<00:20:14.140> a<00:20:14.256> year<00:20:14.574> old<00:20:14.907> because<00:20:15.091> people<00:20:15.408> wanted<00:20:15.742> to<00:20:15.909> work<00:20:17.328> and<00:20:17.664> wanted<00:20:17.905> to<00:20:17.969> have<00:20:18.129> the<00:20:18.209> freedom,<00:20:18.626> the<00:20:18.690> flexibility,<00:20:19.829> wanted<00:20:20.133> to<00:20:20.230> be<00:20:20.470> in<00:20:20.614> a<00:20:20.646> system<00:20:21.576> that<00:20:21.737> makes<00:20:21.913> them<00:20:22.073> successful<00:20:22.795> no<00:20:22.875> matter<00:20:23.116> what<00:20:23.276> they<00:20:23.420> are.
00:20:24.061 --> 00:20:26.595
Yeah,<00:20:24.222> I<00:20:24.302> have<00:20:24.462> a<00:20:24.478> lot<00:20:24.623> of<00:20:24.703> questions,<00:20:25.344> uh,<00:20:25.761> based<00:20:26.146> on<00:20:26.242> that.
00:20:27.444 --> 00:20:36.471
Like,<00:20:27.829> I—<00:20:28.310> one<00:20:28.567> would<00:20:28.727> be<00:20:28.871> kind<00:20:29.048> of<00:20:29.080> like,<00:20:29.352> let's<00:20:29.513> just<00:20:29.673> get<00:20:29.849> to<00:20:29.913> like<00:20:30.090> the,<00:20:30.555> the<00:20:30.651> nuts<00:20:30.972> and<00:20:31.052> bolts<00:20:31.372> of<00:20:31.453> things,<00:20:31.853> which<00:20:32.094> is<00:20:32.479> I<00:20:32.495> imagine<00:20:33.056> like<00:20:33.633> software<00:20:34.194> becomes<00:20:34.579> very<00:20:34.819> important,<00:20:35.365> how<00:20:35.525> you<00:20:35.605> manage<00:20:36.022> your<00:20:36.182> team.
00:20:37.208 --> 00:20:43.573
Um,<00:20:37.769> what<00:20:38.026> software<00:20:38.892> do<00:20:39.052> you<00:20:39.309> use<00:20:40.832> to<00:20:41.088> manage<00:20:41.858> a<00:20:41.954> distributed<00:20:42.595> team<00:20:42.996> that<00:20:43.221> you<00:20:43.317> found?
00:20:43.621 --> 00:20:45.401
I<00:20:43.637> mean,<00:20:43.862> you,<00:20:44.118> you<00:20:44.279> were<00:20:44.439> an<00:20:44.583> expert<00:20:44.920> at<00:20:45.064> this.
00:20:45.947 --> 00:20:53.235
And<00:20:46.444> there's<00:20:46.749> all<00:20:46.846> sorts<00:20:47.231> of<00:20:47.327> different<00:20:48.226> software<00:20:48.676> companies<00:20:49.238> who<00:20:50.602> focus<00:20:50.923> on<00:20:51.020> this<00:20:51.180> problem<00:20:51.678> or<00:20:52.240> some<00:20:52.465> version<00:20:52.786> of<00:20:53.107> it.
00:20:53.412 --> 00:20:54.584
And,<00:20:53.813> you<00:20:53.845> know,<00:20:53.990> we<00:20:54.134> could<00:20:54.295> list<00:20:54.536> them.
00:20:54.632 --> 00:21:02.097
But<00:20:54.889> from<00:20:55.130> your<00:20:55.274> experience,<00:20:55.756> what's<00:20:56.061> the,<00:20:56.558> what's<00:20:56.799> the<00:20:56.879> right<00:20:57.184> tech<00:20:57.522> stack<00:20:58.710> for<00:20:59.432> a<00:20:59.849> distributed<00:21:01.776> company?
00:21:02.482 --> 00:21:02.707
Yeah.
00:21:02.755 --> 00:21:08.567
So<00:21:03.076> it's<00:21:03.285> less<00:21:03.478> about<00:21:04.264> what<00:21:04.425> tool<00:21:04.650> to<00:21:04.810> use,<00:21:05.067> but<00:21:05.372> more<00:21:05.549> importantly,<00:21:06.191> how<00:21:06.512> do<00:21:06.656> you<00:21:06.737> use<00:21:06.849> them<00:21:06.994> together<00:21:07.475> and<00:21:07.636> why<00:21:07.796> you<00:21:08.021> use<00:21:08.262> them,<00:21:08.422> right?
00:21:08.615 --> 00:21:13.945
So<00:21:08.904> for<00:21:09.000> instance,<00:21:09.402> we<00:21:09.546> use,<00:21:11.184> we<00:21:11.264> use<00:21:11.408> tools<00:21:11.569> for<00:21:11.746> synchronous<00:21:12.372> and<00:21:12.532> tools<00:21:12.837> for<00:21:13.014> asynchronous<00:21:13.415> communication.
00:21:13.993 --> 00:21:21.421
So<00:21:14.138> synchronous,<00:21:14.539> let's<00:21:14.683> say,<00:21:14.924> would<00:21:15.085> be<00:21:17.152> video<00:21:17.491> live<00:21:17.653> applications<00:21:18.251> such<00:21:18.462> as<00:21:18.607> Zoom,<00:21:19.109> Google<00:21:19.351> Meet,<00:21:20.483> Microsoft<00:21:20.968> Teams.
00:21:23.394 --> 00:21:25.545
We<00:21:23.782> also<00:21:24.850> do<00:21:25.173> in-person.
00:21:25.739 --> 00:21:26.627
In-person<00:21:26.046> is<00:21:26.143> important.
00:21:26.692 --> 00:21:29.289
We<00:21:26.788> do<00:21:26.885> it<00:21:27.111> maybe<00:21:27.756> twice<00:21:27.966> a<00:21:28.143> year<00:21:28.385> maximum<00:21:28.789> in<00:21:28.885> my<00:21:29.031> team.
00:21:30.579 --> 00:21:31.805
But<00:21:30.660> we<00:21:30.805> plan<00:21:31.063> it<00:21:31.160> ahead<00:21:31.402> of<00:21:31.547> time.
00:21:34.800 --> 00:21:40.909
And<00:21:35.204> in<00:21:35.284> terms<00:21:35.446> of<00:21:35.592> asynchronous<00:21:36.076> tools,<00:21:38.032> we<00:21:38.177> use<00:21:38.905> a<00:21:39.228> knowledge<00:21:39.470> management<00:21:39.729> system<00:21:40.311> such<00:21:40.537> as<00:21:40.634> Notion.
00:21:41.502 --> 00:21:43.571
It<00:21:41.647> really<00:21:41.903> is<00:21:41.967> the<00:21:42.128> core<00:21:42.545> of<00:21:42.705> knowledge<00:21:43.106> of<00:21:43.186> the<00:21:43.266> company.
00:21:43.651 --> 00:21:48.960
Knowledge<00:21:43.844> is<00:21:43.972> really<00:21:44.132> important<00:21:44.646> in<00:21:44.726> a<00:21:44.742> distributed<00:21:45.335> environment<00:21:45.752> because<00:21:46.073> people<00:21:46.715> can<00:21:46.859> be<00:21:46.955> in<00:21:47.019> different<00:21:47.276> time<00:21:47.517> zones<00:21:47.741> and<00:21:47.821> they<00:21:47.902> have<00:21:48.014> to<00:21:48.158> access<00:21:48.463> their<00:21:48.623> work.
00:21:49.938 --> 00:21:54.670
So<00:21:50.227> we<00:21:51.029> really<00:21:51.270> document<00:21:51.655> a<00:21:51.767> lot<00:21:52.328> and<00:21:52.569> we<00:21:53.675> have<00:21:53.772> framework<00:21:54.173> around<00:21:54.333> that.
00:21:54.734 --> 00:21:56.739
We<00:21:54.814> use<00:21:55.680> recorded<00:21:56.097> videos<00:21:56.498> a<00:21:56.514> lot.
00:21:57.059 --> 00:22:05.881
For<00:21:57.140> instance,<00:21:57.541> in<00:21:57.685> my<00:21:57.861> meetings,<00:21:58.904> on<00:21:59.209> my<00:21:59.385> C-level<00:22:00.492> meetings<00:22:01.711> and<00:22:01.791> executive<00:22:02.272> meetings,<00:22:03.379> I<00:22:03.699> do<00:22:03.796> receive<00:22:04.517> the<00:22:04.758> updates<00:22:05.159> ahead<00:22:05.544> of<00:22:05.640> time.
00:22:06.346 --> 00:22:10.099
Every<00:22:06.522> Tuesday,<00:22:07.084> I<00:22:07.100> spend<00:22:07.388> a<00:22:07.468> couple<00:22:07.645> of<00:22:07.869> hours<00:22:08.286> going<00:22:08.527> through<00:22:08.832> all<00:22:08.864> the<00:22:09.008> videos<00:22:09.457> from<00:22:09.650> each<00:22:09.810> team.
00:22:10.709 --> 00:22:13.743
Each<00:22:10.917> leader<00:22:11.399> records<00:22:11.720> that<00:22:12.122> and<00:22:12.362> we<00:22:12.443> have<00:22:12.555> a<00:22:12.603> specific<00:22:13.021> format<00:22:13.342> for<00:22:13.486> that.
00:22:14.305 --> 00:22:19.957
And<00:22:14.385> we<00:22:14.450> have<00:22:14.530> a<00:22:14.546> specific<00:22:15.012> agenda<00:22:15.349> for<00:22:15.509> the<00:22:15.574> meeting<00:22:15.991> and<00:22:16.071> there's<00:22:16.248> a<00:22:16.393> pre-read<00:22:16.874> that<00:22:16.971> you<00:22:17.099> have<00:22:17.292> to<00:22:17.436> read<00:22:17.998> before<00:22:18.480> and<00:22:18.705> comment<00:22:19.186> on<00:22:19.363> and<00:22:19.427> engage<00:22:19.909> in.
00:22:20.487 --> 00:22:35.628
And<00:22:20.567> then<00:22:20.664> when<00:22:20.792> you<00:22:20.824> do<00:22:20.888> the<00:22:20.969> meeting,<00:22:21.290> it's<00:22:21.611> like<00:22:22.012> the<00:22:22.125> most<00:22:22.494> effective<00:22:22.895> meetings<00:22:23.217> I've<00:22:23.377> ever<00:22:23.602> had<00:22:24.084> in<00:22:24.357> my<00:22:25.400> executive<00:22:25.866> career<00:22:27.231> in<00:22:27.311> terms<00:22:27.488> of<00:22:27.552> productivity<00:22:28.435> and<00:22:28.515> engagement<00:22:29.463> and<00:22:29.623> conversations<00:22:30.201> because<00:22:30.924> what<00:22:31.084> you<00:22:31.165> want,<00:22:31.389> you<00:22:31.486> want<00:22:31.614> to<00:22:31.646> reduce<00:22:32.529> the<00:22:32.690> amount<00:22:33.091> of<00:22:33.637> reactivity<00:22:34.537> people<00:22:34.842> have<00:22:35.179> in<00:22:35.339> business.
00:22:36.382 --> 00:22:40.103
And<00:22:36.463> when<00:22:37.264> everything<00:22:37.665> is<00:22:37.746> synchronous,<00:22:39.012> people<00:22:39.253> are<00:22:39.349> put<00:22:39.590> on<00:22:39.654> the<00:22:39.750> spot.
00:22:40.392 --> 00:22:41.931
They<00:22:40.472> haven't<00:22:40.696> had<00:22:40.873> time<00:22:41.177> to<00:22:41.274> reflect.
00:22:42.396 --> 00:22:43.294
They<00:22:42.540> are<00:22:42.589> reactive.
00:22:43.519 --> 00:22:44.529
They're<00:22:43.823> less<00:22:44.000> responsive.
00:22:45.042 --> 00:22:49.661
And<00:22:45.186> you<00:22:45.267> want<00:22:45.619> to<00:22:45.988> have<00:22:46.806> a<00:22:46.886> culture<00:22:47.528> where<00:22:48.554> people<00:22:48.955> are<00:22:49.051> responsive.
00:22:50.158 --> 00:22:55.514
And<00:22:51.072> so<00:22:51.216> by<00:22:51.360> consuming<00:22:51.922> the<00:22:52.018> content<00:22:52.355> ahead<00:22:52.579> of<00:22:52.740> time,<00:22:53.060> engaging<00:22:53.525> with<00:22:53.622> it,<00:22:53.702> there's<00:22:53.958> no<00:22:54.167> surprises<00:22:54.888> coming<00:22:55.065> into<00:22:55.289> the<00:22:55.321> meeting.
00:22:55.947 --> 00:22:57.037
You<00:22:56.027> reduce<00:22:56.428> surprises.
00:22:58.256 --> 00:23:07.185
And<00:22:58.497> that's<00:23:00.261> also<00:23:00.437> important<00:23:00.838> for<00:23:00.918> the<00:23:00.982> future<00:23:01.239> of<00:23:01.383> work<00:23:01.560> because<00:23:02.442> You<00:23:02.507> know,<00:23:02.669> why<00:23:03.089> work<00:23:03.964> have<00:23:04.158> to<00:23:04.304> be<00:23:05.259> more<00:23:05.599> taxing<00:23:06.004> on<00:23:06.085> your<00:23:06.311> life<00:23:06.651> emotionally?
00:23:08.043 --> 00:23:09.857
Already<00:23:08.416> your<00:23:08.578> life<00:23:08.901> is<00:23:09.241> pretty<00:23:09.468> hard.
00:23:12.180 --> 00:23:15.218
So<00:23:12.406> like,<00:23:12.649> work<00:23:13.214> is<00:23:13.247> supposed<00:23:13.683> to<00:23:14.103> support<00:23:14.571> your<00:23:14.733> life,<00:23:15.056> no?
00:23:15.476 --> 00:23:16.946
I<00:23:15.492> mean,<00:23:15.718> it's<00:23:15.864> more<00:23:16.042> than<00:23:16.155> just<00:23:16.462> a<00:23:16.607> paycheck.
00:23:17.027 --> 00:23:22.593
I<00:23:17.059> mean,<00:23:17.237> you<00:23:17.318> need<00:23:17.431> the<00:23:17.544> money,<00:23:18.864> but<00:23:19.090> you<00:23:19.251> also<00:23:19.493> spend<00:23:20.639> at<00:23:20.785> least<00:23:20.962> 60%<00:23:21.608> of<00:23:21.753> your<00:23:21.915> life<00:23:22.318> working.
00:23:23.464 --> 00:23:54.538
So<00:23:23.690> how<00:23:23.948> can<00:23:24.191> that<00:23:24.772> massive<00:23:25.320> activity<00:23:25.805> that<00:23:26.031> you<00:23:26.111> do<00:23:26.208> in<00:23:26.273> your<00:23:26.370> life<00:23:26.773> be<00:23:26.999> a<00:23:27.031> source<00:23:27.483> of<00:23:28.242> fulfillment,<00:23:28.807> a<00:23:28.872> source<00:23:29.211> of<00:23:30.084> creation,<00:23:30.666> creativity,<00:23:31.312> a<00:23:31.328> source<00:23:32.120> of<00:23:32.362> connection<00:23:33.170> with<00:23:33.315> other<00:23:33.412> people,<00:23:35.174> and<00:23:35.432> without<00:23:36.143> all<00:23:36.240> the<00:23:36.886> negative<00:23:37.843> aspect<00:23:38.250> of<00:23:38.413> work,<00:23:38.673> which<00:23:38.901> is<00:23:40.546> being<00:23:41.018> reactive,<00:23:42.174> having<00:23:42.890> high<00:23:43.053> level<00:23:43.216> of<00:23:43.314> anxiety,<00:23:44.300> burnouts,<00:23:45.779> having<00:23:46.039> to<00:23:46.185> commute<00:23:46.754> every<00:23:46.933> day<00:23:47.193> a<00:23:47.258> couple<00:23:47.518> of<00:23:47.730> hours,<00:23:48.055> which<00:23:48.234> is<00:23:48.396> totally<00:23:48.884> wasted<00:23:49.209> time,<00:23:51.717> and<00:23:52.463> live<00:23:52.787> in<00:23:52.868> places<00:23:53.274> where<00:23:53.420> you<00:23:53.517> don't<00:23:54.084> want<00:23:54.311> to<00:23:54.392> live.
00:23:55.004 --> 00:23:56.423
I<00:23:55.020> mean,<00:23:55.181> some<00:23:55.391> people<00:23:55.633> want<00:23:55.714> to<00:23:55.810> live<00:23:55.988> in<00:23:56.133> cities.
00:23:57.972 --> 00:24:01.956
You<00:23:58.085> know,<00:23:58.311> I<00:23:58.456> loved<00:23:58.698> living<00:23:58.940> in<00:23:59.020> London<00:23:59.343> for<00:23:59.504> 14<00:23:59.908> years<00:24:00.230> and<00:24:00.392> in<00:24:00.504> San<00:24:00.714> Francisco<00:24:01.214> for<00:24:01.392> 7<00:24:01.698> years.
00:24:02.505 --> 00:24:03.537
It<00:24:02.569> was<00:24:02.682> a<00:24:02.731> great<00:24:02.908> part<00:24:03.085> of<00:24:03.150> my<00:24:03.295> life.
00:24:03.940 --> 00:24:12.490
Now<00:24:04.118> I<00:24:04.198> want<00:24:04.344> to<00:24:04.925> live<00:24:05.087> near<00:24:05.248> the<00:24:05.410> beach<00:24:05.733> in<00:24:06.638> a<00:24:06.768> remote<00:24:07.188> island<00:24:07.527> in<00:24:07.657> the<00:24:07.689> Mediterranean<00:24:09.112> and<00:24:09.192> still<00:24:09.451> run<00:24:11.148> a<00:24:11.714> billion-plus<00:24:12.199> business.
00:24:13.169 --> 00:24:13.880
I<00:24:13.250> can<00:24:13.411> do<00:24:13.589> that.
00:24:14.397 --> 00:24:21.885
I<00:24:14.430> don't<00:24:14.543> have<00:24:14.785> to<00:24:14.866> keep,<00:24:15.351> you<00:24:15.432> know,<00:24:16.564> be<00:24:16.871> in<00:24:17.373> a<00:24:17.454> polluted<00:24:17.858> environment<00:24:18.586> where<00:24:19.799> there's<00:24:20.769> little<00:24:21.076> access<00:24:21.416> to<00:24:21.513> nature.
00:24:22.788 --> 00:24:24.714
Work<00:24:23.045> can<00:24:23.286> be<00:24:23.526> a<00:24:23.671> well-being<00:24:24.104> source<00:24:24.473> for<00:24:24.554> you.
00:24:24.955 --> 00:24:25.436
It<00:24:25.035> has<00:24:25.164> to<00:24:25.308> be.
00:24:25.677 --> 00:24:26.496
That's<00:24:25.934> the<00:24:25.998> future<00:24:26.175> of<00:24:26.319> work.
00:24:27.202 --> 00:24:29.385
Yeah,<00:24:27.282> I<00:24:27.379> think,<00:24:27.619> I<00:24:27.700> think<00:24:27.940> a<00:24:28.085> lot<00:24:28.261> of<00:24:28.342> people<00:24:28.566> would<00:24:28.743> agree<00:24:28.968> with<00:24:29.128> you<00:24:29.224> there.
00:24:29.465 --> 00:24:33.237
How<00:24:29.626> do<00:24:29.690> you<00:24:29.802> maintain<00:24:30.894> culture<00:24:32.435> throughout<00:24:32.772> the<00:24:32.900> company?
00:24:33.558 --> 00:24:34.794
I<00:24:33.574> mean,<00:24:33.783> you're<00:24:33.879> in<00:24:34.104> 80<00:24:34.264> different<00:24:34.521> countries.
00:24:34.842 --> 00:24:42.033
I<00:24:34.858> mean,<00:24:35.067> how<00:24:35.163> do<00:24:35.244> you,<00:24:35.709> how<00:24:35.805> do<00:24:35.870> you<00:24:36.030> develop<00:24:36.833> a<00:24:37.475> culture<00:24:38.036> and<00:24:38.117> how<00:24:38.229> do<00:24:38.277> you<00:24:38.390> maintain<00:24:39.016> that<00:24:39.240> culture<00:24:40.155> if<00:24:40.300> the<00:24:40.380> entire<00:24:40.765> workforce<00:24:41.407> is<00:24:41.568> distributed?
00:24:42.547 --> 00:24:42.707
Yeah.
00:24:43.285 --> 00:24:46.046
So<00:24:44.296> first,<00:24:44.714> culture<00:24:45.115> is<00:24:45.195> a<00:24:45.275> changing<00:24:45.661> animal,<00:24:45.917> right?
00:24:46.094 --> 00:24:49.063
So,<00:24:46.319> so<00:24:46.463> you,<00:24:46.961> you<00:24:47.073> don't<00:24:47.217> want<00:24:47.330> to<00:24:47.362> have<00:24:47.619> too<00:24:47.747> much<00:24:47.924> control<00:24:48.550> over<00:24:48.726> the<00:24:48.871> culture.
00:24:49.128 --> 00:24:50.251
You<00:24:49.192> want<00:24:49.288> to<00:24:49.433> influence<00:24:49.834> the<00:24:49.914> culture.
00:24:50.735 --> 00:24:55.795
And<00:24:50.897> accept<00:24:51.220> that<00:24:51.398> it's<00:24:51.544> going<00:24:51.705> to<00:24:51.786> change<00:24:52.659> over<00:24:52.918> the<00:24:53.225> course<00:24:53.467> of<00:24:53.564> your<00:24:53.661> business<00:24:55.181> for<00:24:55.343> good<00:24:55.504> reasons.
00:24:56.232 --> 00:25:03.269
Because<00:24:56.539> what<00:24:56.862> you<00:24:56.976> need<00:24:57.267> as<00:24:57.364> behavior<00:24:57.768> in<00:24:57.848> the<00:24:57.929> beginning<00:24:58.334> of<00:24:58.560> your<00:24:58.722> journey<00:24:59.142> are<00:24:59.287> different<00:24:59.853> when<00:25:00.015> you<00:25:00.096> are<00:25:00.273> a<00:25:00.353> late-stage<00:25:00.821> business,<00:25:01.481> let's<00:25:03.076> say.
00:25:03.495 --> 00:25:13.384
But<00:25:03.640> how<00:25:03.817> do<00:25:04.461> you<00:25:04.542> reinforce,<00:25:05.508> how<00:25:05.605> do<00:25:05.653> you<00:25:05.750> influence<00:25:06.233> culture<00:25:06.700> is<00:25:06.861> by<00:25:06.958> being<00:25:07.345> clear<00:25:08.327> about<00:25:08.553> the<00:25:08.633> set<00:25:08.795> of<00:25:08.940> values<00:25:11.235> with<00:25:11.477> which<00:25:11.881> you<00:25:12.269> operate,<00:25:12.689> with<00:25:12.835> which<00:25:12.996> you<00:25:13.093> behave.
00:25:13.497 --> 00:25:14.807
The<00:25:13.643> how<00:25:14.209> is<00:25:14.322> important.
00:25:15.663 --> 00:25:23.260
And<00:25:16.310> the<00:25:16.390> more<00:25:16.633> you<00:25:16.730> go<00:25:16.956> up<00:25:17.134> in<00:25:17.215> the<00:25:17.296> organization,<00:25:17.942> the<00:25:18.071> more<00:25:18.427> important<00:25:19.293> that<00:25:19.520> leaders<00:25:20.831> model<00:25:21.155> the<00:25:21.301> way<00:25:21.787> for<00:25:21.965> others<00:25:22.694> in<00:25:22.775> the<00:25:22.856> business.
00:25:24.702 --> 00:25:25.981
It's<00:25:24.864> also<00:25:25.107> through<00:25:25.447> communication.
00:25:26.175 --> 00:25:29.695
The<00:25:26.321> way<00:25:26.483> you<00:25:26.580> communicate,<00:25:27.050> the<00:25:27.147> way<00:25:27.228> you<00:25:27.309> show<00:25:27.536> up<00:25:29.325> is<00:25:29.470> critical.
00:25:30.114 --> 00:25:35.159
And<00:25:30.356> the<00:25:30.437> way<00:25:30.936> you<00:25:31.097> embed<00:25:31.500> these<00:25:31.742> values<00:25:32.306> in<00:25:32.693> your<00:25:32.790> decision-making<00:25:33.354> process<00:25:33.676> and<00:25:33.837> reiterate<00:25:34.321> them<00:25:34.482> and<00:25:34.627> explain<00:25:35.030> them.
00:25:36.964 --> 00:25:41.309
It's<00:25:37.109> also<00:25:37.270> about<00:25:37.511> how<00:25:37.833> you<00:25:37.930> relate<00:25:38.171> to<00:25:38.332> other<00:25:38.493> people<00:25:38.959> because<00:25:40.086> culture<00:25:40.343> is<00:25:40.440> about<00:25:40.730> behavior.
00:25:41.389 --> 00:25:48.106
So<00:25:42.258> the<00:25:42.339> way<00:25:42.516> you<00:25:42.661> treat<00:25:42.983> people<00:25:43.884> is<00:25:44.109> really<00:25:44.367> important<00:25:44.994> to<00:25:45.268> sustain<00:25:46.695> the<00:25:46.857> culture<00:25:47.198> that<00:25:47.344> you<00:25:47.425> said<00:25:47.749> you<00:25:47.847> are.
00:25:50.456 --> 00:25:54.144
Yeah,<00:25:50.713> these<00:25:50.921> are<00:25:50.953> some<00:25:51.178> of<00:25:51.643> the<00:25:51.739> things<00:25:51.915> I've<00:25:52.044> observed<00:25:53.583> in<00:25:53.744> my<00:25:53.824> career.
00:25:54.690 --> 00:26:04.263
Yeah,<00:25:55.107> I<00:25:55.187> think,<00:25:56.710> yeah,<00:25:57.095> I<00:25:57.111> think,<00:25:57.416> I<00:25:57.432> think,<00:25:57.656> you<00:25:57.688> know,<00:25:57.993> that<00:25:58.153> those<00:25:58.394> who<00:25:58.554> push<00:25:58.795> back<00:25:59.099> on<00:25:59.196> remote<00:25:59.516> work,<00:25:59.997> that<00:26:00.158> seems<00:26:00.414> to<00:26:00.479> be<00:26:00.623> kind<00:26:00.735> of<00:26:00.783> like<00:26:00.960> the<00:26:01.040> number<00:26:01.505> one<00:26:01.681> pushback,<00:26:02.242> which<00:26:02.419> is<00:26:02.547> like,<00:26:02.707> how<00:26:02.804> do<00:26:02.900> I<00:26:02.980> maintain<00:26:03.750> the<00:26:03.846> culture?
00:26:04.792 --> 00:26:14.638
How<00:26:04.824> do<00:26:05.033> I<00:26:05.065> maintain<00:26:05.851> like<00:26:06.091> these<00:26:07.695> water<00:26:08.079> cooler<00:26:08.561> conversations,<00:26:09.459> they<00:26:09.619> call<00:26:09.924> them,<00:26:10.020> and<00:26:10.100> things<00:26:10.324> like<00:26:10.485> that,<00:26:10.645> like<00:26:10.741> these<00:26:10.902> kind<00:26:11.030> of<00:26:11.062> like<00:26:11.222> just<00:26:11.447> happenstance<00:26:12.088> things<00:26:12.265> that<00:26:12.313> happen,<00:26:12.650> things<00:26:12.810> that<00:26:12.874> happen<00:26:13.067> before<00:26:13.451> meetings<00:26:13.788> and<00:26:13.933> after<00:26:14.253> meetings.
00:26:15.312 --> 00:26:19.245
But<00:26:17.222> you<00:26:17.254> can't<00:26:17.463> really<00:26:17.639> control<00:26:17.960> those<00:26:18.362> either,<00:26:18.843> right?
00:26:19.790 --> 00:26:21.348
It's<00:26:19.951> really<00:26:20.112> about<00:26:20.352> control,<00:26:21.235> right?
00:26:21.428 --> 00:26:28.122
It's<00:26:21.588> about<00:26:21.797> the<00:26:21.877> need<00:26:22.279> to<00:26:22.375> control<00:26:22.776> the<00:26:22.937> illusion<00:26:24.847> that<00:26:25.088> leaders<00:26:25.489> are<00:26:25.586> controlling<00:26:26.131> things,<00:26:26.934> right?
00:26:29.101 --> 00:26:41.976
That<00:26:29.294> of<00:26:29.422> course<00:26:29.615> there's<00:26:29.904> things<00:26:30.064> that<00:26:30.241> you<00:26:30.562> need<00:26:30.787> to<00:26:30.883> control<00:26:31.365> as<00:26:31.445> leaders,<00:26:31.862> I<00:26:31.927> say<00:26:32.328> your<00:26:32.472> financial<00:26:33.452> trajectory<00:26:34.254> and<00:26:34.559> the<00:26:34.591> numbers<00:26:35.378> and<00:26:36.100> your<00:26:36.181> strategy,<00:26:36.486> you<00:26:36.518> know,<00:26:36.662> you<00:26:36.759> wanna<00:26:36.903> implement<00:26:37.304> strategy,<00:26:39.295> but<00:26:39.777> everything<00:26:40.098> else<00:26:40.499> is<00:26:40.933> an<00:26:41.173> illusion.
00:26:42.024 --> 00:26:43.918
You<00:26:42.120> cannot<00:26:42.361> really<00:26:42.602> control<00:26:43.100> many<00:26:43.405> things<00:26:43.645> in<00:26:43.678> your<00:26:43.790> culture.
00:26:43.967 --> 00:26:45.283
You<00:26:44.047> cannot<00:26:44.272> control<00:26:44.528> people's<00:26:44.769> behavior.
00:26:46.373 --> 00:26:51.969
So<00:26:47.255> not<00:26:47.399> because<00:26:47.592> you're<00:26:47.720> in<00:26:47.800> the<00:26:48.121> office<00:26:48.522> that<00:26:48.698> these<00:26:49.179> water-cool<00:26:49.580> conversations<00:26:50.285> are<00:26:50.862> net<00:26:51.103> positive<00:26:51.520> to<00:26:51.568> your<00:26:51.664> culture.
00:26:52.850 --> 00:26:54.967
People<00:26:53.027> could<00:26:53.187> be<00:26:54.053> chatting<00:26:54.293> about<00:26:54.470> toxic<00:26:54.774> things.
00:26:55.191 --> 00:26:58.879
They<00:26:55.271> could<00:26:55.432> be<00:26:55.656> talking<00:26:55.816> about<00:26:56.394> politics<00:26:57.436> in<00:26:57.516> these<00:26:58.141> water-cool<00:26:58.462> conversations.
00:26:58.959 --> 00:27:03.576
So<00:27:00.626> now<00:27:01.219> if<00:27:01.347> you're<00:27:01.460> talking<00:27:01.588> about<00:27:01.909> connection,<00:27:02.662> it's<00:27:02.806> a<00:27:02.887> different<00:27:03.127> story.
00:27:04.394 --> 00:27:14.157
If<00:27:04.474> you<00:27:04.570> want<00:27:04.698> to<00:27:04.730> create<00:27:04.971> a<00:27:05.051> culture<00:27:05.837> that<00:27:05.933> people<00:27:06.173> feel<00:27:06.334> connected,<00:27:07.135> they<00:27:07.360> feel<00:27:07.536> belonging<00:27:08.674> to<00:27:08.819> it,<00:27:10.181> then<00:27:10.406> you<00:27:10.486> need<00:27:10.646> to<00:27:11.304> engineer<00:27:12.121> some<00:27:12.362> of<00:27:12.490> these<00:27:12.650> experiences<00:27:13.388> in<00:27:13.532> the<00:27:13.612> virtual<00:27:13.933> world.
00:27:14.286 --> 00:27:19.181
Say<00:27:14.510> we<00:27:14.590> have<00:27:14.831> these<00:27:15.472> Donut<00:27:15.793> conversations<00:27:16.516> where<00:27:16.757> randomly<00:27:17.319> people<00:27:18.122> book<00:27:18.346> me<00:27:18.443> to<00:27:18.587> chat<00:27:18.908> with<00:27:19.021> me.
00:27:20.032 --> 00:27:38.802
I<00:27:20.514> do,<00:27:21.975> in<00:27:22.120> every<00:27:22.232> meeting<00:27:22.537> I<00:27:22.617> start,<00:27:23.741> whether<00:27:23.918> it's<00:27:24.143> a<00:27:24.223> one-to-one<00:27:25.347> or<00:27:25.508> we<00:27:25.604> have<00:27:25.748> an<00:27:25.813> executive<00:27:26.214> meeting,<00:27:27.177> we<00:27:27.258> do<00:27:27.354> check<00:27:27.579> in<00:27:27.659> with<00:27:27.820> people<00:27:28.317> and<00:27:29.763> ask<00:27:29.923> them<00:27:30.068> what<00:27:30.164> is<00:27:30.244> on<00:27:30.341> their<00:27:30.437> mind,<00:27:31.111> what<00:27:31.272> keeps<00:27:31.432> them<00:27:31.593> up<00:27:31.689> at<00:27:31.786> night<00:27:32.251> and<00:27:32.396> make<00:27:32.556> sure<00:27:32.653> to<00:27:32.733> understand<00:27:33.054> the<00:27:33.199> context<00:27:33.584> that<00:27:33.696> they're<00:27:34.002> in,<00:27:34.499> that<00:27:34.724> they<00:27:34.901> feel<00:27:35.944> that<00:27:36.201> they<00:27:36.506> are<00:27:37.213> part<00:27:37.534> of<00:27:38.032> a<00:27:38.353> community.
00:27:42.624 --> 00:27:45.467
It's<00:27:43.234> more<00:27:43.315> about<00:27:43.491> belonging<00:27:44.037> rather<00:27:44.439> than<00:27:45.081> controlling.
00:27:46.366 --> 00:27:47.506
I<00:27:46.864> like<00:27:47.105> that.
00:27:47.586 --> 00:27:49.401
It's<00:27:47.731> about<00:27:48.068> more<00:27:48.229> about<00:27:48.470> belonging<00:27:49.016> than<00:27:49.112> controlling.
00:27:49.497 --> 00:27:55.214
That's<00:27:49.674> actually,<00:27:50.397> that's<00:27:50.621> actually<00:27:50.798> pretty<00:27:51.039> deep<00:27:51.762> and<00:27:52.661> something<00:27:53.046> people<00:27:53.287> should,<00:27:54.315> you<00:27:54.347> know,<00:27:54.797> write<00:27:55.006> down.
00:27:55.937 --> 00:27:56.868
Probably<00:27:56.660> that.
00:27:56.965 --> 00:27:59.438
I<00:27:57.061> think<00:27:57.222> that<00:27:57.366> would,<00:27:57.463> that<00:27:57.607> would,<00:27:57.703> that's,<00:27:58.089> that's<00:27:58.282> a<00:27:58.346> really<00:27:58.587> interesting<00:27:58.988> concept.
00:27:59.952 --> 00:28:19.647
What<00:28:00.048> about,<00:28:00.433> I<00:28:00.578> wonder<00:28:00.835> too,<00:28:01.236> like,<00:28:01.477> I<00:28:01.558> mean,<00:28:01.798> being<00:28:02.023> in,<00:28:02.184> again,<00:28:02.505> like<00:28:02.746> being<00:28:02.923> in<00:28:03.067> 80<00:28:03.308> countries,<00:28:05.171> building<00:28:05.476> the<00:28:05.556> company<00:28:05.893> that<00:28:06.054> you're<00:28:06.215> building,<00:28:06.777> doing<00:28:07.082> what<00:28:07.194> you're<00:28:07.339> doing,<00:28:09.247> What<00:28:09.568> have<00:28:09.808> you<00:28:09.904> seen<00:28:10.770> in<00:28:10.866> terms<00:28:11.346> of<00:28:11.571> mental<00:28:12.067> health<00:28:13.349> and<00:28:13.494> the<00:28:13.654> difference<00:28:14.455> in<00:28:14.551> employees'<00:28:15.096> mental<00:28:15.417> health<00:28:15.833> and<00:28:15.913> people's<00:28:16.314> general<00:28:16.714> mental<00:28:17.099> health<00:28:17.980> during<00:28:18.237> COVID<00:28:18.637> post-COVID?
00:28:20.160 --> 00:28:24.855
And<00:28:20.304> are<00:28:20.400> there<00:28:20.560> some<00:28:20.865> countries<00:28:21.762> that<00:28:21.986> you're<00:28:22.099> seeing<00:28:22.483> like,<00:28:22.724> hey,<00:28:22.884> they're,<00:28:23.365> they're<00:28:23.525> doing<00:28:23.845> better<00:28:24.150> than<00:28:24.310> others?
00:28:25.031 --> 00:28:34.341
Or,<00:28:25.992> you<00:28:26.025> know,<00:28:26.569> I<00:28:26.730> imagine<00:28:27.194> you<00:28:27.274> have<00:28:27.435> a<00:28:27.611> really<00:28:27.995> unique<00:28:28.492> insight<00:28:29.838> into<00:28:30.079> the<00:28:30.255> overall<00:28:31.040> mental<00:28:31.521> health<00:28:31.921> of,<00:28:32.338> you<00:28:32.434> know,<00:28:32.659> the<00:28:32.963> workforce<00:28:33.780> of<00:28:33.860> the<00:28:34.005> world.
00:28:34.742 --> 00:28:35.709
Interestingly<00:28:35.306> enough.
00:28:38.286 --> 00:28:41.813
Yeah,<00:28:38.592> it's<00:28:38.769> a,<00:28:39.832> it's<00:28:39.977> a,<00:28:40.073> it's<00:28:40.460> an<00:28:41.040> important<00:28:41.426> topic.
00:28:42.864 --> 00:28:47.659
Look,<00:28:43.839> mental<00:28:44.229> health<00:28:44.879> is—<00:28:45.627> mental<00:28:45.854> health<00:28:46.033> challenges<00:28:46.602> are<00:28:46.748> on<00:28:46.846> the<00:28:46.927> rise<00:28:47.317> everywhere.
00:28:49.450 --> 00:28:50.060
They<00:28:49.707> are.
00:28:50.767 --> 00:28:59.318
We<00:28:50.912> live<00:28:51.088> in<00:28:51.169> a<00:28:51.330> world<00:28:51.972> where<00:28:53.965> rates<00:28:54.158> of<00:28:54.286> depression<00:28:54.784> is<00:28:55.009> up,<00:28:55.266> rate<00:28:55.427> of<00:28:55.748> anxiety<00:28:56.471> is<00:28:56.696> up,<00:28:56.873> PTSD<00:28:57.435> is<00:28:57.741> up,<00:28:58.480> addictions<00:28:58.900> are<00:28:59.050> up.
00:29:01.750 --> 00:29:05.517
And<00:29:03.049> it<00:29:03.536> is<00:29:04.105> expected.
00:29:05.825 --> 00:29:09.592
I<00:29:06.069> mean,<00:29:06.800> the<00:29:07.189> pandemic<00:29:07.936> was<00:29:08.098> a<00:29:08.180> pretty<00:29:08.342> rough<00:29:08.585> period<00:29:08.894> for<00:29:08.975> many<00:29:09.235> people.
00:29:11.157 --> 00:29:19.233
There<00:29:11.255> are<00:29:11.483> wars<00:29:12.068> in<00:29:12.150> this<00:29:12.312> world,<00:29:12.882> there's<00:29:13.126> economical<00:29:13.598> crisis,<00:29:15.143> a<00:29:15.225> high<00:29:15.550> level<00:29:15.794> of<00:29:15.973> uncertainty<00:29:16.543> and<00:29:16.624> volatility<00:29:17.777> that<00:29:17.939> is<00:29:18.198> impacting<00:29:18.667> people's<00:29:18.990> life.
00:29:20.284 --> 00:29:24.763
And<00:29:20.543> there's<00:29:21.497> also<00:29:22.483> not<00:29:22.710> a<00:29:22.726> lot<00:29:22.823> of<00:29:22.968> awareness<00:29:23.389> about<00:29:23.615> these<00:29:23.777> issues<00:29:24.488> yet.
00:29:24.990 --> 00:29:27.807
There's<00:29:25.216> more<00:29:25.378> awareness,<00:29:25.798> but<00:29:26.122> it's<00:29:26.526> not<00:29:26.704> enough<00:29:27.369> in<00:29:27.442> my<00:29:27.570> opinion.
00:29:28.647 --> 00:29:35.118
So<00:29:29.530> what<00:29:29.707> we<00:29:29.787> do<00:29:29.948> at<00:29:30.124> Oyster<00:29:30.735> is<00:29:30.992> we,<00:29:32.661> first<00:29:32.902> we<00:29:32.999> want<00:29:33.175> to<00:29:33.561> have<00:29:34.444> data.
00:29:35.648 --> 00:29:44.399
So<00:29:35.728> how<00:29:35.889> do<00:29:35.953> we<00:29:36.033> have<00:29:36.210> data<00:29:36.611> is<00:29:37.575> we<00:29:37.719> use<00:29:37.832> an<00:29:38.121> app<00:29:38.618> on<00:29:39.357> Slack<00:29:39.662> called<00:29:39.983> Kona<00:29:40.545> that<00:29:40.866> enable<00:29:41.123> us<00:29:41.268> to<00:29:42.055> check<00:29:42.295> the<00:29:42.327> sentiment<00:29:42.954> of<00:29:43.034> people,<00:29:43.355> how<00:29:43.516> they're<00:29:43.676> feeling<00:29:44.062> every<00:29:44.238> day.
00:29:45.186 --> 00:29:52.668
And<00:29:45.282> we<00:29:45.442> aggregate<00:29:45.764> that<00:29:45.988> data<00:29:46.229> and<00:29:46.470> we<00:29:46.550> look<00:29:46.663> at<00:29:46.791> dashboards<00:29:47.514> and<00:29:47.690> we<00:29:48.397> ask<00:29:48.574> ourselves<00:29:49.055> questions,<00:29:49.537> why<00:29:49.697> there's<00:29:49.874> a<00:29:50.019> dip,<00:29:50.565> why<00:29:50.677> it's<00:29:50.886> recovering,<00:29:51.865> and<00:29:51.945> so<00:29:52.026> on<00:29:52.186> and<00:29:52.267> so<00:29:52.411> forth.
00:29:54.748 --> 00:30:05.141
Secondly<00:29:55.218> is<00:29:56.852> we<00:29:56.998> have<00:29:57.678> a<00:29:57.743> dedicated<00:29:58.212> Slack<00:29:58.552> channel<00:29:59.183> for<00:29:59.782> mental<00:30:00.559> health<00:30:00.818> support<00:30:02.112> where<00:30:02.339> people<00:30:02.760> can<00:30:02.986> share<00:30:03.472> anonymously<00:30:03.829> or<00:30:03.894> not<00:30:04.386> what<00:30:04.485> they're<00:30:04.698> going<00:30:04.944> through.
00:30:06.584 --> 00:30:16.188
Obviously<00:30:06.863> most<00:30:07.174> of<00:30:07.256> it<00:30:07.437> is<00:30:07.601> not<00:30:07.912> work-related<00:30:12.009> and<00:30:12.365> they<00:30:12.495> get<00:30:12.608> support<00:30:12.997> from<00:30:13.143> the<00:30:13.224> community,<00:30:13.872> from<00:30:14.115> the<00:30:14.196> community<00:30:15.265> in<00:30:15.346> that<00:30:15.573> Slack<00:30:15.832> channel.
00:30:17.371 --> 00:30:18.505
Myself<00:30:17.954> is<00:30:18.019> in<00:30:18.100> that<00:30:18.246> channel.
00:30:18.570 --> 00:30:23.289
I<00:30:18.667> also<00:30:19.810> I<00:30:19.842> do<00:30:19.922> share<00:30:20.180> sometimes<00:30:20.808> when<00:30:20.969> I<00:30:21.775> need<00:30:22.000> help<00:30:22.661> from<00:30:22.822> the<00:30:22.903> community.
00:30:24.691 --> 00:30:35.938
So<00:30:25.142> we<00:30:25.239> create<00:30:25.561> this<00:30:26.592> nurturing<00:30:26.995> environment<00:30:27.816> where<00:30:28.042> people<00:30:28.380> feel<00:30:28.606> safe<00:30:29.110> to<00:30:30.639> voice<00:30:31.127> their<00:30:31.859> issues,<00:30:32.184> their<00:30:32.347> challenges,<00:30:33.811> and<00:30:34.900> receive<00:30:35.289> support.
00:30:39.002 --> 00:30:47.385
And,<00:30:39.245> you<00:30:39.504> know,<00:30:39.601> the<00:30:39.731> future<00:30:40.055> of<00:30:40.217> work<00:30:40.558> has<00:30:40.801> a<00:30:40.882> role<00:30:41.109> to<00:30:41.206> play<00:30:41.449> in<00:30:41.611> this<00:30:42.000> because<00:30:44.056> we<00:30:44.316> want<00:30:44.706> work<00:30:44.965> to<00:30:45.112> be<00:30:45.858> a<00:30:45.875> net<00:30:46.183> positive<00:30:46.589> for<00:30:46.751> people's<00:30:47.141> life.
00:30:48.995 --> 00:31:08.184
And<00:30:49.157> leaders<00:30:49.545> have<00:30:49.803> to,<00:30:51.905> they<00:30:52.066> can,<00:30:52.551> it<00:30:52.584> doesn't<00:30:52.939> cost<00:30:53.343> money<00:30:54.329> and<00:30:54.394> they<00:30:54.475> can<00:30:54.717> change<00:30:55.057> the<00:30:55.218> way<00:30:56.253> they<00:30:57.788> behave,<00:30:58.403> the<00:30:58.500> way<00:30:58.934> they<00:30:59.095> connect<00:30:59.418> with<00:30:59.579> others<00:31:00.207> and<00:31:02.075> show<00:31:02.301> that<00:31:02.945> it's<00:31:03.541> okay<00:31:04.185> to<00:31:04.878> have<00:31:05.119> challenges<00:31:06.086> because<00:31:06.424> everybody<00:31:06.826> have<00:31:07.245> some<00:31:07.487> of<00:31:07.600> these<00:31:07.716> challenges.
00:31:09.318 --> 00:31:21.430
So<00:31:09.552> you<00:31:09.702> need<00:31:09.869> to<00:31:10.036> be,<00:31:11.300> you<00:31:11.430> need<00:31:11.495> to<00:31:11.642> show<00:31:12.212> some<00:31:12.489> level<00:31:12.799> of<00:31:12.945> vulnerability<00:31:13.841> and<00:31:13.939> be<00:31:14.738> open<00:31:14.998> about<00:31:15.308> these<00:31:15.552> things<00:31:15.732> so<00:31:15.976> that<00:31:16.302> others<00:31:16.628> can<00:31:17.417> have<00:31:17.834> the,<00:31:18.861> uh,<00:31:19.182> the<00:31:19.263> permission<00:31:20.001> to<00:31:20.081> be<00:31:20.242> open<00:31:20.499> about<00:31:20.788> this,<00:31:21.205> right?
00:31:22.088 --> 00:31:28.509
Just<00:31:22.329> by<00:31:22.634> yourself,<00:31:23.372> by<00:31:23.838> modeling<00:31:24.175> the<00:31:24.336> way<00:31:25.379> about<00:31:25.684> these<00:31:25.941> things,<00:31:26.567> you<00:31:26.663> can<00:31:26.968> help<00:31:27.129> people<00:31:28.108> as<00:31:28.188> a<00:31:28.269> leader.
00:31:29.296 --> 00:31:33.068
Yeah,<00:31:30.034> yeah,<00:31:30.580> that's<00:31:31.142> like,<00:31:31.319> how<00:31:31.479> do<00:31:31.559> you<00:31:31.800> lead<00:31:32.041> yourself,<00:31:32.747> Tony?
00:31:33.149 --> 00:31:39.795
Like,<00:31:33.550> I<00:31:33.711> wonder,<00:31:34.032> like,<00:31:34.224> if<00:31:34.433> you—<00:31:34.690> like,<00:31:34.850> how<00:31:34.947> do<00:31:35.155> you<00:31:35.268> maintain,<00:31:36.761> um,<00:31:37.322> your<00:31:38.286> work-life<00:31:38.783> balance,<00:31:39.169> your<00:31:39.329> mental<00:31:39.650> health?
00:31:39.843 --> 00:31:47.321
I'm<00:31:39.987> sure<00:31:40.212> living<00:31:40.485> in<00:31:40.613> Cyprus<00:31:41.111> helps,<00:31:42.781> but,<00:31:43.102> uh,<00:31:43.663> you<00:31:43.744> know<00:31:44.466> I'm<00:31:44.739> sure<00:31:45.043> that<00:31:45.364> that's,<00:31:45.669> that's<00:31:45.910> pretty<00:31:46.086> great<00:31:46.391> for<00:31:46.808> the<00:31:46.952> mental<00:31:47.193> health.
00:31:47.850 --> 00:31:49.551
But<00:31:48.957> how<00:31:49.053> do<00:31:49.198> you<00:31:49.310> do<00:31:49.454> this?
00:31:49.679 --> 00:31:50.994
What<00:31:49.775> does<00:31:49.936> a<00:31:50.000> typical<00:31:50.417> day<00:31:50.721> look<00:31:50.898> like?
00:31:51.058 --> 00:31:52.710
How<00:31:51.219> do<00:31:51.363> you<00:31:51.764> maintain<00:31:52.165> your<00:31:52.261> balance?
00:31:53.224 --> 00:31:56.351
Yeah,<00:31:53.336> so<00:31:53.625> energy<00:31:53.945> management,<00:31:54.411> so<00:31:54.683> is<00:31:54.828> important<00:31:55.373> for<00:31:55.549> personal<00:31:55.950> leadership.
00:31:57.330 --> 00:32:03.425
So<00:31:58.838> I<00:31:59.142> have,<00:31:59.800> I<00:31:59.880> don't<00:32:00.041> work<00:32:00.217> in<00:32:00.281> the<00:32:00.361> morning<00:32:01.324> because<00:32:01.548> my<00:32:01.645> team<00:32:01.901> is<00:32:02.110> mostly<00:32:02.447> in<00:32:02.527> the<00:32:02.591> US<00:32:02.928> and<00:32:03.152> Europe.
00:32:03.505 --> 00:32:05.221
I<00:32:03.633> work<00:32:03.810> in<00:32:03.890> the<00:32:04.034> afternoon<00:32:04.371> and<00:32:04.676> evenings.
00:32:06.312 --> 00:32:12.215
So<00:32:06.681> I<00:32:06.761> use<00:32:07.002> the<00:32:07.034> morning<00:32:07.563> as<00:32:07.659> an<00:32:07.740> opportunity<00:32:08.301> for<00:32:08.445> me<00:32:08.622> to<00:32:08.766> do<00:32:08.862> what<00:32:09.023> I<00:32:09.039> need<00:32:09.247> to<00:32:09.344> do<00:32:09.504> in<00:32:09.584> my<00:32:09.729> life,<00:32:10.001> spend<00:32:10.226> time<00:32:10.386> with<00:32:10.531> my<00:32:10.627> children,<00:32:11.509> go<00:32:11.653> for<00:32:11.750> a<00:32:11.766> swim.
00:32:13.188 --> 00:32:14.223
Do<00:32:13.336> my<00:32:13.451> exercises.
00:32:16.880 --> 00:32:26.252
And<00:32:17.010> in<00:32:17.156> between<00:32:17.562> meetings,<00:32:18.115> I<00:32:18.277> also<00:32:18.521> have<00:32:18.700> small<00:32:19.025> breaks<00:32:19.578> where<00:32:20.179> I<00:32:20.488> engage<00:32:21.057> in<00:32:22.376> energy-fulfilling<00:32:23.743> activities<00:32:24.193> such<00:32:24.402> as<00:32:25.126> playing<00:32:25.287> music,<00:32:25.689> for<00:32:25.786> instance.
00:32:27.604 --> 00:32:32.756
Or,<00:32:29.293> and<00:32:29.614> I<00:32:29.630> also,<00:32:30.700> we<00:32:30.732> at<00:32:30.894> Oyster,<00:32:31.282> we<00:32:31.379> have<00:32:31.687> what<00:32:31.784> we<00:32:31.930> call<00:32:32.092> Focus<00:32:32.497> Friday.
00:32:33.080 --> 00:32:34.909
It's<00:32:33.177> a<00:32:33.306> day<00:32:33.565> where<00:32:33.808> we<00:32:33.954> don't<00:32:34.116> have<00:32:34.294> internal<00:32:34.618> meetings.
00:32:35.929 --> 00:32:46.874
So<00:32:36.156> it<00:32:36.318> enables<00:32:36.787> me<00:32:37.030> to<00:32:38.554> to<00:32:38.699> catch<00:32:38.940> up<00:32:39.101> on<00:32:39.262> everything<00:32:39.600> I<00:32:39.664> need<00:32:39.761> to<00:32:39.841> catch<00:32:40.083> up<00:32:41.113> that<00:32:41.290> week<00:32:41.531> so<00:32:41.628> that<00:32:41.917> when<00:32:42.014> I<00:32:42.159> go<00:32:42.320> in<00:32:42.400> the<00:32:42.497> weekend,<00:32:43.124> I<00:32:44.186> totally<00:32:44.508> disconnect,<00:32:45.232> with<00:32:45.329> a<00:32:45.377> few<00:32:45.474> exceptions<00:32:46.520> here<00:32:46.681> and<00:32:46.810> there.
00:32:48.785 --> 00:32:51.295
And<00:32:48.866> that<00:32:49.028> gives<00:32:49.190> me<00:32:49.514> the<00:32:49.837> ability<00:32:50.161> to<00:32:50.323> really<00:32:50.501> recharge<00:32:50.874> my<00:32:50.971> energy.
00:32:52.428 --> 00:32:56.262
I<00:32:52.671> do<00:32:52.833> keep<00:32:53.141> myself—<00:32:54.922> I<00:32:55.019> do<00:32:55.100> some<00:32:55.246> exercise<00:32:55.924> as<00:32:56.133> well.
00:32:56.553 --> 00:33:01.040
I<00:32:56.634> do<00:32:56.779> a<00:32:56.795> couple<00:32:57.102> of<00:32:57.425> Pilates<00:32:57.828> sessions<00:32:58.248> a<00:32:58.474> week<00:32:59.394> to<00:32:59.539> stay<00:32:59.781> fit<00:33:00.168> on<00:33:00.265> top<00:33:00.427> of<00:33:00.572> the<00:33:00.604> swimming.
00:33:01.944 --> 00:33:06.298
And<00:33:02.832> as<00:33:02.928> important<00:33:03.397> of<00:33:03.574> all<00:33:03.671> of<00:33:03.752> this<00:33:04.204> is<00:33:05.356> Minimizing<00:33:05.908> reactivity.
00:33:06.639 --> 00:33:10.165
How<00:33:06.802> can<00:33:06.964> I<00:33:07.062> be<00:33:07.386> a<00:33:07.451> less<00:33:07.793> reactive<00:33:08.426> human<00:33:08.767> being<00:33:09.255> and<00:33:09.320> less<00:33:09.498> reactive<00:33:09.986> leader?
00:33:12.424 --> 00:33:30.415
And<00:33:12.667> that<00:33:12.845> requires<00:33:14.757> some<00:33:17.122> journey,<00:33:17.527> a<00:33:17.592> journey<00:33:18.321> of<00:33:19.876> understanding<00:33:20.670> why<00:33:20.929> you're<00:33:21.139> reacting<00:33:21.477> the<00:33:21.574> way<00:33:21.719> you're<00:33:21.816> acting<00:33:22.526> is<00:33:22.623> a<00:33:22.703> journey<00:33:23.091> of<00:33:24.236> expanding<00:33:25.446> your<00:33:25.672> awareness<00:33:26.737> of<00:33:26.882> your<00:33:27.301> reactivity<00:33:28.189> and<00:33:28.334> your<00:33:28.511> emotions<00:33:29.076> and<00:33:29.237> be<00:33:29.318> connected<00:33:29.802> with<00:33:29.883> these<00:33:30.044> emotions.
00:33:30.464 --> 00:33:32.850
So<00:33:30.940> That's<00:33:31.380> a<00:33:31.540> journey<00:33:31.700> that<00:33:31.880> I'm<00:33:32.060> pretty<00:33:32.180> excited<00:33:32.400> about.
00:33:33.600 --> 00:33:35.340
Yeah,<00:33:33.820> I<00:33:33.960> noticed<00:33:34.200> the<00:33:34.740> guitar.
00:33:35.720 --> 00:33:37.620
What<00:33:35.960> is<00:33:36.420> that<00:33:36.580> guitar<00:33:36.900> behind<00:33:37.180> you?
00:33:37.620 --> 00:33:38.670
Is<00:33:37.740> that<00:33:37.960> a<00:33:38.120> Fender?
00:33:38.700 --> 00:33:40.050
I<00:33:38.720> couldn't<00:33:39.020> see<00:33:39.300> it.
00:33:40.140 --> 00:33:41.540
Oh,<00:33:41.160> okay.
00:33:41.540 --> 00:33:42.380
What<00:33:41.541> is<00:33:42.040> this?
00:33:42.380 --> 00:33:43.110
Is<00:33:42.400> this<00:33:42.580> a<00:33:42.660> Gibson?
00:33:44.580 --> 00:33:45.900
It's<00:33:45.320> not.
00:33:45.900 --> 00:33:46.990
I<00:33:46.100> don't<00:33:46.240> know<00:33:46.360> actually<00:33:46.500> the<00:33:46.640> brand.
00:33:47.240 --> 00:33:48.980
I'm<00:33:47.280> pretty<00:33:47.460> new<00:33:47.740> to<00:33:48.040> guitar<00:33:48.280> playing.
00:33:49.320 --> 00:33:50.060
Okay,<00:33:49.340> cool.
00:33:50.060 --> 00:33:51.020
Actually,<00:33:50.260> let<00:33:50.440> me<00:33:50.520> check.
00:33:51.020 --> 00:33:52.400
It's<00:33:51.080> a<00:33:51.140> pretty<00:33:51.280> famous<00:33:51.620> brand,<00:33:52.260> actually.
00:33:52.400 --> 00:33:54.240
It's<00:33:53.520> Ibanez.
00:33:54.240 --> 00:33:54.810
You<00:33:54.320> know<00:33:54.460> Ibanez?
00:33:54.840 --> 00:33:55.720
Oh,<00:33:55.180> yeah.
00:33:55.720 --> 00:33:56.660
Okay,<00:33:56.020> very<00:33:56.300> cool.
00:33:57.167 --> 00:33:57.488
Yeah.
00:33:57.745 --> 00:33:59.222
So<00:33:58.082> how<00:33:58.307> long<00:33:58.531> have<00:33:58.628> you<00:33:58.772> been<00:33:58.868> playing?
00:33:59.350 --> 00:34:05.788
And<00:33:59.687> it<00:33:59.832> is<00:33:59.992> that—<00:34:00.458> isn't<00:34:00.699> that<00:34:00.875> kind<00:34:01.100> of<00:34:01.261> like—<00:34:01.582> I've<00:34:01.903> actually<00:34:02.144> started<00:34:02.465> doing<00:34:02.705> a<00:34:02.786> little<00:34:02.898> bit<00:34:03.043> of<00:34:03.123> this<00:34:03.283> myself<00:34:04.231> and<00:34:04.471> it's<00:34:04.664> so<00:34:04.889> meditative,<00:34:05.676> huh?
00:34:05.852 --> 00:34:13.510
To<00:34:05.932> like<00:34:06.093> kind<00:34:06.318> of—<00:34:06.478> because<00:34:06.735> you<00:34:06.799> have<00:34:06.912> to<00:34:06.976> be<00:34:07.072> so<00:34:07.361> focused<00:34:08.662> and<00:34:08.886> it's<00:34:09.063> kind<00:34:09.240> of<00:34:09.304> the<00:34:09.384> only<00:34:09.497> thing<00:34:09.673> you<00:34:09.721> can<00:34:10.026> think<00:34:10.203> about<00:34:10.508> in<00:34:10.652> order<00:34:10.974> to,<00:34:11.696> uh,<00:34:12.338> do<00:34:12.515> it,<00:34:12.836> at<00:34:12.916> least<00:34:13.157> do<00:34:13.221> it<00:34:13.382> well.
00:34:14.184 --> 00:34:19.081
And,<00:34:14.746> um,<00:34:15.389> I<00:34:15.421> mean,<00:34:15.790> is<00:34:15.886> that—<00:34:16.127> has<00:34:16.304> it<00:34:16.368> become<00:34:16.673> like<00:34:16.833> kind<00:34:16.946> of<00:34:17.090> a<00:34:17.106> meditative<00:34:17.636> process<00:34:18.198> for<00:34:18.278> you<00:34:18.776> in<00:34:18.921> a<00:34:19.001> way?
00:34:19.482 --> 00:34:20.157
It<00:34:19.579> is,<00:34:19.739> absolutely.
00:34:20.221 --> 00:34:22.982
Actually,<00:34:20.526> I<00:34:20.542> started<00:34:21.024> playing<00:34:21.361> recently<00:34:21.987> in<00:34:22.148> March<00:34:22.629> this<00:34:22.854> year.
00:34:23.978 --> 00:34:33.275
And,<00:34:24.395> uh,<00:34:25.840> I<00:34:25.905> was,<00:34:26.162> I<00:34:26.226> was<00:34:26.338> doing,<00:34:26.643> um,<00:34:28.474> uh,<00:34:28.731> like<00:34:28.907> a<00:34:29.309> retreat,<00:34:30.802> uh,<00:34:30.979> in,<00:34:31.284> in<00:34:31.524> jungles,<00:34:32.263> in<00:34:32.488> the<00:34:32.648> Amazon<00:34:32.986> jungle.
00:34:33.532 --> 00:34:41.656
And<00:34:33.628> there<00:34:33.724> was<00:34:33.885> a<00:34:34.013> guy<00:34:34.495> playing<00:34:34.912> guitar,<00:34:35.394> and,<00:34:36.277> and<00:34:36.422> for<00:34:36.550> the<00:34:36.663> first<00:34:36.919> time<00:34:37.080> in<00:34:37.225> my<00:34:37.321> life,<00:34:37.787> I<00:34:37.819> start<00:34:39.232> hearing<00:34:39.633> the<00:34:39.713> music<00:34:40.131> not<00:34:40.356> with<00:34:40.452> my<00:34:40.853> ears<00:34:41.078> but<00:34:41.174> with<00:34:41.319> my<00:34:41.480> heart.
00:34:42.925 --> 00:34:48.336
And,<00:34:43.406> uh,<00:34:44.691> the<00:34:44.723> next<00:34:45.028> week<00:34:45.269> I<00:34:45.349> was,<00:34:45.606> I<00:34:45.654> was<00:34:45.831> totally<00:34:46.152> convinced<00:34:46.794> I<00:34:46.875> have,<00:34:47.260> I<00:34:47.340> have<00:34:47.597> to<00:34:47.677> start<00:34:47.838> playing<00:34:48.063> guitar.
00:34:49.348 --> 00:34:56.031
And,<00:34:49.688> and<00:34:49.785> since<00:34:50.076> then<00:34:50.400> it<00:34:50.497> was—<00:34:50.805> it's—<00:34:50.983> I'm<00:34:51.144> like,<00:34:51.403> I'm,<00:34:51.856> I'm,<00:34:52.131> I'm<00:34:52.439> like,<00:34:52.617> uh,<00:34:54.364> something<00:34:54.769> that<00:34:55.011> I<00:34:55.027> really<00:34:55.254> look<00:34:55.416> forward<00:34:55.658> to<00:34:55.756> right<00:34:55.917> now.
00:34:57.665 --> 00:35:00.296
I<00:34:57.746> don't<00:34:57.891> play<00:34:58.069> well<00:34:58.311> at<00:34:58.456> all,<00:34:58.714> but<00:34:58.876> actually<00:34:59.102> it's<00:34:59.263> really—<00:34:59.699> it's<00:34:59.860> a<00:34:59.925> practice.
00:35:00.473 --> 00:35:01.684
It's<00:35:00.570> just<00:35:00.732> to<00:35:00.877> be<00:35:01.054> in<00:35:01.200> the<00:35:01.248> moment.
00:35:01.845 --> 00:35:02.281
Yeah.
00:35:02.814 --> 00:35:05.799
And,<00:35:03.153> and<00:35:03.798> yeah,<00:35:03.927> it<00:35:04.040> doesn't<00:35:04.282> matter<00:35:04.524> at<00:35:04.670> all<00:35:04.912> how<00:35:05.154> well<00:35:05.396> you<00:35:05.557> play.
00:35:05.880 --> 00:35:07.221
It's<00:35:06.041> like,<00:35:06.235> it's<00:35:06.380> like<00:35:06.510> fly<00:35:06.784> fishing.
00:35:07.269 --> 00:35:10.194
Like,<00:35:07.431> it<00:35:07.511> kind<00:35:07.899> of—<00:35:08.158> like,<00:35:08.384> the<00:35:08.546> catching<00:35:08.885> the<00:35:08.966> fish<00:35:09.289> is<00:35:09.370> kind<00:35:09.596> of<00:35:09.628> not<00:35:09.774> the<00:35:09.855> point.
00:35:10.663 --> 00:35:20.034
In<00:35:10.808> fact,<00:35:11.002> sometimes<00:35:11.778> catching<00:35:12.182> the<00:35:12.262> fish<00:35:12.909> is,<00:35:13.555> um,<00:35:13.878> a<00:35:13.975> distraction<00:35:15.932> from<00:35:16.178> just<00:35:16.424> like<00:35:16.587> the<00:35:16.686> meditative<00:35:18.634> Ooh,<00:35:18.939> you<00:35:19.052> know,<00:35:19.197> back<00:35:19.454> and<00:35:19.583> forth<00:35:19.824> thing.
00:35:20.629 --> 00:35:22.592
I<00:35:20.886> have<00:35:21.530> a<00:35:21.595> couple<00:35:21.772> more<00:35:21.932> questions<00:35:22.319> for<00:35:22.415> you.
00:35:23.284 --> 00:35:28.770
What<00:35:23.397> advice<00:35:23.767> would<00:35:23.864> you<00:35:24.008> have<00:35:24.266> for<00:35:24.427> companies<00:35:24.910> and<00:35:24.990> leaders<00:35:25.956> on<00:35:26.100> the<00:35:26.197> best<00:35:26.503> ways<00:35:26.825> to<00:35:26.986> recruit<00:35:27.950> remote<00:35:28.352> talent?
00:35:29.654 --> 00:35:40.058
So<00:35:29.895> I<00:35:29.975> think<00:35:30.136> first<00:35:30.602> is<00:35:30.763> you<00:35:32.852> want<00:35:33.093> to<00:35:35.279> make<00:35:35.424> a<00:35:35.456> decision<00:35:36.003> that<00:35:36.569> you<00:35:36.730> want<00:35:36.876> to<00:35:37.199> go<00:35:37.457> beyond<00:35:37.861> 20-mile<00:35:38.426> radius<00:35:38.717> from<00:35:38.830> your<00:35:38.992> office<00:35:39.234> to<00:35:39.380> find<00:35:39.622> talent,<00:35:39.880> right?
00:35:40.187 --> 00:35:41.867
I<00:35:40.220> think<00:35:40.365> that's<00:35:40.591> an<00:35:40.704> important<00:35:40.995> decision<00:35:41.318> you<00:35:41.350> need<00:35:41.496> to<00:35:41.593> make.
00:35:42.666 --> 00:35:48.889
And<00:35:43.554> it<00:35:43.812> can<00:35:43.973> be<00:35:44.070> scary<00:35:44.683> for<00:35:45.119> many<00:35:45.344> organizations,<00:35:46.070> but<00:35:46.216> actually<00:35:46.409> it's<00:35:46.554> much<00:35:46.861> easier<00:35:47.280> than<00:35:47.440> than<00:35:48.196> it<00:35:48.374> sounds.
00:35:49.549 --> 00:35:58.559
There's<00:35:50.918> a<00:35:50.934> lot<00:35:51.111> of<00:35:51.562> recruiters<00:35:53.269> in<00:35:53.334> the<00:35:53.430> world<00:35:53.656> that<00:35:53.817> are<00:35:53.849> specialized<00:35:54.638> in<00:35:54.799> talent<00:35:55.202> in<00:35:55.459> many<00:35:55.765> countries,<00:35:56.249> depending<00:35:56.571> on<00:35:56.700> the<00:35:56.764> skill<00:35:56.910> set<00:35:57.136> that<00:35:57.282> you're<00:35:57.379> looking<00:35:57.621> for,<00:35:58.090> the<00:35:58.123> type<00:35:58.204> of<00:35:58.414> role.
00:35:59.869 --> 00:36:03.815
There<00:36:00.031> are<00:36:00.193> platforms<00:36:00.775> that<00:36:00.856> help<00:36:01.082> you<00:36:01.179> find<00:36:01.503> this<00:36:01.664> talent,<00:36:02.635> and<00:36:02.699> we<00:36:02.796> are<00:36:02.942> partnered<00:36:03.217> with<00:36:03.427> many<00:36:03.605> of<00:36:03.751> them.
00:36:06.436 --> 00:36:26.180
And<00:36:06.534> you<00:36:06.682> have<00:36:06.878> to<00:36:06.993> essentially,<00:36:11.660> once<00:36:11.757> you<00:36:11.855> find<00:36:12.100> the<00:36:12.165> talent,<00:36:12.507> this<00:36:12.670> is<00:36:12.817> what<00:36:12.915> I<00:36:12.931> mean,<00:36:13.224> finding<00:36:13.632> the<00:36:13.730> talent<00:36:14.137> is<00:36:14.284> not<00:36:14.529> really<00:36:15.442> the<00:36:15.588> hard<00:36:16.432> the<00:36:16.577> hard<00:36:17.059> aspect<00:36:17.461> because<00:36:17.718> today<00:36:18.602> there's<00:36:18.779> many<00:36:19.004> platforms<00:36:19.486> that<00:36:19.647> enable<00:36:19.968> you<00:36:20.049> to<00:36:20.145> do<00:36:20.306> so<00:36:20.627> and<00:36:21.720> you<00:36:21.817> can,<00:36:22.042> you<00:36:22.138> have<00:36:23.328> many<00:36:23.504> companies<00:36:23.826> have<00:36:23.970> developed<00:36:24.212> their<00:36:24.388> interview<00:36:24.694> process<00:36:25.193> and<00:36:25.257> their<00:36:25.355> assessment<00:36:25.759> process.
00:36:26.892 --> 00:36:29.852
So<00:36:27.700> the<00:36:27.781> challenging<00:36:28.186> part<00:36:28.445> is<00:36:28.590> how<00:36:28.914> do<00:36:29.059> you<00:36:29.237> employ<00:36:29.642> them?
00:36:30.127 --> 00:36:35.026

I<00:37:11.869> mean,<00:37:12.013> the<00:37:12.158> list<00:37:12.398> goes<00:37:12.655> on.
00:37:12.976 --> 00:37:16.523
It's<00:37:13.153> a<00:37:13.217> pretty<00:37:13.522> complicated<00:37:15.127> process<00:37:15.689> after<00:37:15.849> you<00:37:15.945> find<00:37:16.202> a<00:37:16.266> talent.

And<00:37:16.652> this<00:37:16.764> is<00:37:16.892> where<00:37:17.069> Oyster<00:37:17.390> comes<00:37:17.615> in.
00:37:17.952 --> 00:37:19.460

00:37:19.573 --> 00:37:34.242
It's<00:37:20.841> a<00:37:20.905> software<00:37:21.162> platform<00:37:21.804> that<00:37:22.125> enables<00:37:23.393> you<00:37:23.890> to<00:37:24.933> make<00:37:25.078> global<00:37:25.399> hiring<00:37:25.656> as<00:37:25.816> easy<00:37:25.977> as<00:37:26.137> local<00:37:26.362> hiring<00:37:26.683> with<00:37:26.827> a<00:37:26.843> few<00:37:27.004> clicks<00:37:27.983> on<00:37:28.127> our<00:37:28.224> platform<00:37:29.026> and<00:37:29.106> make<00:37:29.251> sure<00:37:29.492> that<00:37:29.668> you<00:37:29.893> are<00:37:30.053> talent<00:37:30.294> competitive<00:37:30.856> and<00:37:30.936> you're<00:37:31.097> taking<00:37:31.353> care<00:37:31.578> of<00:37:31.931> Mary<00:37:32.236> in<00:37:32.397> Athens<00:37:33.039> the<00:37:33.119> way<00:37:33.344> you<00:37:33.504> want<00:37:33.600> to<00:37:33.761> take<00:37:33.841> care<00:37:34.002> of<00:37:34.146> her.
00:37:35.125 --> 00:37:36.730
Obviously<00:37:35.847> this<00:37:36.008> is<00:37:36.088> a<00:37:36.104> marketing<00:37:36.473> message.
00:37:36.794 --> 00:37:39.844
My<00:37:36.891> marketing<00:37:37.131> team<00:37:37.276> will<00:37:37.372> be<00:37:37.452> happy,<00:37:37.854> but<00:37:38.030> essentially<00:37:38.656> this<00:37:38.817> is<00:37:38.961> how<00:37:39.073> it<00:37:39.298> works,<00:37:39.619> right?
00:37:40.961 --> 00:37:41.638
For<00:37:41.187> companies.
00:37:43.184 --> 00:37:50.174
Companies<00:37:43.587> now,<00:37:44.167> they<00:37:44.312> don't<00:37:44.473> have<00:37:44.747> to<00:37:45.456> anymore<00:37:47.244> think<00:37:47.566> about,<00:37:47.936> hey,<00:37:48.355> where<00:37:48.677> should<00:37:48.838> I<00:37:48.983> hire<00:37:49.563> before<00:37:49.949> hiring?
00:37:50.383 --> 00:38:02.828
Okay,<00:37:51.026> so<00:37:51.170> before,<00:37:51.813> think<00:37:51.990> about<00:37:52.231> it,<00:37:53.324> you<00:37:54.048> had<00:37:54.208> to<00:37:54.289> decide,<00:37:54.691> hey,<00:37:54.867> we<00:37:54.932> want<00:37:55.092> to<00:37:55.173> open<00:37:55.334> an<00:37:55.510> office<00:37:55.912> in<00:37:56.218> Turkey<00:37:56.941> or,<00:37:57.375> I<00:37:57.391> don't<00:37:57.520> know,<00:37:57.922> Argentina,<00:37:59.298> and<00:37:59.460> then<00:37:59.687> we<00:37:59.784> open<00:37:59.946> an<00:38:00.173> office,<00:38:00.513> find<00:38:00.675> a<00:38:00.691> manager,<00:38:01.225> and<00:38:01.306> then<00:38:01.387> that<00:38:01.517> manager<00:38:01.824> starts<00:38:02.051> hiring<00:38:02.359> local<00:38:02.601> talent.
00:38:04.302 --> 00:38:05.597
That's<00:38:04.545> a<00:38:04.642> huge<00:38:05.127> investment.
00:38:05.856 --> 00:38:09.570
And<00:38:07.038> a<00:38:07.166> huge<00:38:07.422> commitment<00:38:07.807> and<00:38:07.887> it<00:38:07.967> could<00:38:08.128> take<00:38:08.304> 6<00:38:08.865> months<00:38:09.089> to<00:38:09.186> 1<00:38:09.330> year.
00:38:10.228 --> 00:38:17.136
Today,<00:38:11.590> by<00:38:12.456> changing<00:38:12.792> the<00:38:13.017> order<00:38:13.273> of<00:38:13.417> things,<00:38:13.658> you<00:38:13.690> don't<00:38:14.395> need<00:38:14.780> anymore<00:38:15.117> to<00:38:15.277> pick<00:38:15.453> the<00:38:15.581> country,<00:38:15.918> you<00:38:15.998> need<00:38:16.078> to<00:38:16.239> pick<00:38:16.399> the<00:38:16.543> person<00:38:16.880> first.
00:38:18.082 --> 00:38:27.828
You<00:38:18.563> need<00:38:18.723> to<00:38:18.964> find<00:38:19.204> the<00:38:19.364> best<00:38:19.637> talent<00:38:20.086> no<00:38:20.262> matter<00:38:20.566> where<00:38:20.647> they<00:38:20.807> are,<00:38:21.849> and<00:38:21.993> then<00:38:22.089> use<00:38:22.410> platform<00:38:22.875> like<00:38:23.067> Oyster<00:38:24.013> to<00:38:24.414> employ<00:38:24.734> them<00:38:24.910> and<00:38:25.295> give<00:38:25.455> them<00:38:25.920> great<00:38:26.097> benefits<00:38:26.497> and<00:38:26.882> pay<00:38:26.994> them<00:38:27.443> compliantly.
00:38:28.982 --> 00:38:29.815
What<00:38:29.142> is<00:38:29.286> the<00:38:29.383> future?
00:38:30.408 --> 00:38:30.937
Yeah,<00:38:30.729> yeah.
00:38:30.986 --> 00:38:32.300
I<00:38:31.002> mean,<00:38:31.466> that's<00:38:31.947> incredible.
00:38:32.348 --> 00:38:33.486
And<00:38:32.428> your<00:38:32.588> marketing<00:38:32.909> team<00:38:33.069> will<00:38:33.230> be<00:38:33.310> happy.
00:38:33.550 --> 00:38:34.175
That<00:38:33.598> was<00:38:33.711> a<00:38:33.775> great<00:38:33.855> answer.
00:38:36.756 --> 00:38:37.469
What<00:38:36.934> is<00:38:37.080> the<00:38:37.161> future?
00:38:37.566 --> 00:38:39.365
Finally,<00:38:38.279> what<00:38:38.393> is<00:38:38.522> the<00:38:38.603> future<00:38:38.928> of<00:38:39.025> Oyster?
00:38:41.273 --> 00:38:44.500
And<00:38:41.499> I<00:38:41.531> mean,<00:38:41.757> is<00:38:41.902> there<00:38:41.999> plans<00:38:42.386> like,<00:38:42.564> hey,<00:38:42.806> we<00:38:43.032> want<00:38:43.112> to<00:38:43.209> take<00:38:43.435> this<00:38:43.612> company<00:38:44.016> public?
00:38:44.984 --> 00:38:49.823
We<00:38:45.129> just<00:38:45.371> want<00:38:45.451> to<00:38:45.548> keep<00:38:45.855> executing<00:38:46.419> on<00:38:46.516> the<00:38:46.597> current<00:38:46.823> mission<00:38:47.081> and<00:38:47.242> just<00:38:47.484> grow<00:38:47.807> and<00:38:47.887> get<00:38:48.065> more<00:38:48.355> countries<00:38:48.855> and<00:38:49.178> get<00:38:49.339> more<00:38:49.501> talent?
00:38:50.081 --> 00:38:51.563
I<00:38:50.146> mean,<00:38:50.468> what<00:38:50.646> is<00:38:50.791> the<00:38:50.840> future<00:38:51.032> of<00:38:51.129> the<00:38:51.257> company?
00:38:52.158 --> 00:38:56.899
Yeah,<00:38:52.302> we<00:38:52.399> want<00:38:52.624> to<00:38:53.379> make<00:38:53.524> sure<00:38:53.829> that<00:38:54.167> we<00:38:54.633> continue<00:38:54.970> to<00:38:55.131> align<00:38:56.096> profit<00:38:56.417> with<00:38:56.578> purpose.
00:38:57.124 --> 00:39:05.506
So<00:38:57.606> we're<00:38:58.989> going<00:38:59.085> to<00:38:59.133> continue<00:39:01.645> enabling<00:39:02.051> people<00:39:02.375> from<00:39:02.554> around<00:39:02.700> the<00:39:02.781> world<00:39:03.024> to<00:39:03.251> access<00:39:04.468> more<00:39:04.646> equal<00:39:04.890> opportunities.
00:39:08.156 --> 00:39:14.878
We've<00:39:08.317> been<00:39:08.462> experiencing<00:39:09.346> pretty<00:39:09.668> massive<00:39:10.006> growth<00:39:10.745> since<00:39:11.035> the<00:39:11.131> beginning<00:39:11.389> of<00:39:11.453> this<00:39:11.598> company<00:39:12.418> in<00:39:12.740> 2020.
00:39:16.422 --> 00:39:19.115
We<00:39:17.082> do<00:39:17.227> envision<00:39:18.050> a<00:39:18.131> path<00:39:18.437> to<00:39:18.534> going<00:39:18.760> public.
00:39:19.405 --> 00:39:28.330
Actually,<00:39:20.938> I<00:39:21.115> was<00:39:21.212> exposed<00:39:21.680> to<00:39:24.181> public<00:39:24.487> markets<00:39:24.762> in<00:39:24.826> my<00:39:24.988> previous<00:39:25.294> business<00:39:26.343> where<00:39:26.440> we<00:39:26.601> were<00:39:26.650> public<00:39:27.019> on<00:39:27.120> the<00:39:27.355> New<00:39:27.607> York<00:39:27.775> Stock<00:39:27.960> Exchange.
00:39:28.380 --> 00:39:34.079
So<00:39:29.262> we<00:39:29.759> know<00:39:29.984> how<00:39:30.225> to<00:39:30.386> do<00:39:30.562> this<00:39:31.012> and<00:39:31.493> we<00:39:31.654> have<00:39:32.152> a<00:39:32.393> great<00:39:32.650> opportunity<00:39:33.212> ahead<00:39:33.436> of<00:39:33.533> us<00:39:33.661> to<00:39:33.757> do<00:39:33.854> this.
00:39:34.737 --> 00:39:39.104
Specifically<00:39:35.219> that<00:39:36.648> we<00:39:36.872> are<00:39:37.049> an<00:39:37.354> ESG<00:39:37.611> company,<00:39:38.012> we<00:39:38.093> are<00:39:38.173> a<00:39:38.189> mission-driven<00:39:38.719> company.
00:39:39.843 --> 00:39:46.651
And<00:39:39.939> there's<00:39:40.164> a<00:39:40.244> lot<00:39:40.485> of<00:39:40.582> capital<00:39:41.786> in<00:39:41.866> the<00:39:41.946> market,<00:39:42.444> in<00:39:42.573> the<00:39:42.669> public<00:39:42.990> market<00:39:43.295> that<00:39:43.488> are<00:39:43.632> looking<00:39:44.660> for<00:39:44.997> companies<00:39:45.302> that<00:39:45.479> align<00:39:45.880> profit<00:39:46.185> with<00:39:46.362> purpose.
00:39:47.502 --> 00:39:54.679
So<00:39:48.369> we<00:39:48.433> want<00:39:48.578> to<00:39:48.610> be<00:39:48.770> a<00:39:48.851> role<00:39:49.075> model<00:39:49.413> for<00:39:49.637> other<00:39:49.798> companies<00:39:50.456> and<00:39:50.537> other<00:39:50.777> entrepreneurs<00:39:51.725> that<00:39:51.901> being<00:39:52.142> mission-driven<00:39:52.704> is<00:39:52.849> actually<00:39:53.347> great<00:39:53.732> for<00:39:53.812> return<00:39:54.069> on<00:39:54.149> investment.
00:39:55.209 --> 00:40:00.138
Mission-driven<00:39:55.755> entrepreneurs<00:39:56.542> should<00:39:56.799> be<00:39:56.879> rewarded<00:39:57.345> more<00:39:58.324> than<00:39:58.870> less<00:39:59.143> mission-driven<00:39:59.576> entrepreneurs.
00:40:01.391 --> 00:40:08.616
So<00:40:01.535> that's<00:40:01.712> kind<00:40:01.857> of<00:40:01.953> the<00:40:02.097> ultimate<00:40:02.499> goal,<00:40:03.125> or<00:40:03.639> see,<00:40:03.799> not<00:40:04.024> goal,<00:40:04.329> ultimate<00:40:04.827> milestone<00:40:05.614> we're<00:40:05.871> going<00:40:06.368> to<00:40:06.529> reach<00:40:06.834> in<00:40:06.979> our<00:40:07.075> path<00:40:07.637> to<00:40:07.781> delivering<00:40:08.199> impact.
00:40:09.724 --> 00:40:11.523
But<00:40:09.949> along<00:40:10.126> the<00:40:10.206> way,<00:40:10.350> many<00:40:10.591> things<00:40:10.768> could<00:40:10.848> happen,<00:40:11.394> right?
00:40:11.892 --> 00:40:26.047
So<00:40:12.213> we,<00:40:13.401> at<00:40:15.344> the<00:40:15.489> moment,<00:40:15.826> we<00:40:15.906> are<00:40:16.051> heads<00:40:16.307> down<00:40:16.869> in<00:40:17.191> ensuring<00:40:17.753> that<00:40:19.182> we<00:40:20.322> we<00:40:20.466> continue<00:40:20.723> to<00:40:20.867> grow<00:40:21.749> and<00:40:21.845> we<00:40:21.925> continue<00:40:22.326> to<00:40:22.471> execute<00:40:23.930> until<00:40:24.395> the<00:40:25.133> opportunity<00:40:25.694> arises.
00:40:26.095 --> 00:40:34.964
And<00:40:26.255> today,<00:40:27.699> with<00:40:27.859> the<00:40:28.003> way<00:40:28.260> the<00:40:28.709> market<00:40:29.222> is<00:40:29.447> behaving,<00:40:30.906> the<00:40:31.051> IPO<00:40:31.307> opportunity<00:40:31.949> is<00:40:32.109> not<00:40:32.253> going<00:40:32.430> to<00:40:32.815> be<00:40:32.991> available<00:40:33.392> for<00:40:33.472> at<00:40:33.697> least<00:40:33.857> 12<00:40:34.034> months<00:40:34.274> for<00:40:34.338> companies<00:40:34.739> like<00:40:34.916> us.
00:40:35.798 --> 00:40:36.696
Yeah,<00:40:36.359> yeah.
00:40:37.562 --> 00:40:45.837
Finally,<00:40:38.829> we<00:40:39.310> end<00:40:39.486> every<00:40:39.647> interview<00:40:39.951> the<00:40:39.983> same<00:40:40.208> way<00:40:40.352> at<00:40:40.448> CEO.com,<00:40:41.395> where<00:40:41.635> we<00:40:41.796> believe<00:40:42.437> the<00:40:42.533> chances<00:40:42.998> that<00:40:43.175> are<00:40:43.399> given<00:40:43.672> are<00:40:43.816> just<00:40:44.041> as<00:40:44.137> important<00:40:44.458> as<00:40:44.538> the<00:40:44.618> chances<00:40:45.003> we<00:40:45.099> take<00:40:45.276> on<00:40:45.324> ourselves.
00:40:46.378 --> 00:40:53.898
I<00:40:46.461> wonder<00:40:47.057> for<00:40:47.372> you,<00:40:48.118> Oyster,<00:40:48.467> in<00:40:48.632> your<00:40:48.864> life,<00:40:50.990> if<00:40:51.038> there's<00:40:51.263> someone<00:40:51.568> who<00:40:51.729> gave<00:40:52.002> you<00:40:52.163> a<00:40:52.227> chance<00:40:52.709> that<00:40:52.789> got<00:40:53.014> you<00:40:53.111> to<00:40:53.191> where<00:40:53.416> you<00:40:53.512> are<00:40:53.673> today.
00:40:54.557 --> 00:40:55.087
Absolutely.
00:40:57.369 --> 00:41:09.730
So<00:40:58.253> I<00:40:58.333> told<00:40:58.494> you<00:40:58.558> about<00:40:58.815> the<00:40:59.522> story<00:40:59.844> of<00:40:59.876> France<00:41:00.422> and<00:41:00.567> how<00:41:00.920> I<00:41:01.049> was<00:41:01.210> able<00:41:01.467> to—<00:41:02.511> I<00:41:02.576> think<00:41:02.913> the<00:41:02.994> French<00:41:04.360> country,<00:41:04.681> the<00:41:04.761> government<00:41:05.388> has<00:41:07.253> made<00:41:07.478> an<00:41:07.638> important<00:41:08.137> impact<00:41:08.683> on<00:41:09.117> my<00:41:09.263> trajectory.
00:41:10.081 --> 00:41:12.813
I'm<00:41:10.414> very<00:41:10.581> grateful<00:41:11.099> for<00:41:12.314> for<00:41:12.385> these<00:41:12.563> guys.
00:41:14.617 --> 00:41:22.070
And<00:41:16.650> I<00:41:16.714> would<00:41:16.811> say<00:41:17.698> I<00:41:17.763> was<00:41:18.424> fortunate<00:41:18.973> to<00:41:19.570> have<00:41:19.699> met<00:41:19.876> amazing<00:41:20.199> people<00:41:20.537> along<00:41:20.747> the<00:41:20.844> way<00:41:21.312> that<00:41:21.796> helped<00:41:21.973> me.
00:41:22.360 --> 00:41:37.194
I<00:41:22.377> mean,<00:41:23.199> I<00:41:23.909> can't<00:41:24.070> think<00:41:24.216> of<00:41:24.329> so<00:41:24.539> many<00:41:24.717> people,<00:41:26.479> but<00:41:26.576> I<00:41:26.657> just<00:41:26.900> was<00:41:27.061> on<00:41:27.126> the<00:41:27.223> phone<00:41:27.611> with<00:41:27.789> Pascal,<00:41:29.082> my<00:41:29.260> mentor<00:41:29.567> in<00:41:29.713> my<00:41:29.794> previous<00:41:30.117> business,<00:41:30.683> who<00:41:31.750> was<00:41:31.928> really<00:41:32.946> an<00:41:33.528> important<00:41:33.852> coach<00:41:34.098> for<00:41:34.262> me<00:41:34.917> in<00:41:34.999> my<00:41:35.163> leadership<00:41:36.408> skill<00:41:36.703> development.

Good<00:41:38.262> friend<00:41:38.439> of<00:41:38.568> mine.
00:41:38.824 --> 00:41:45.408
I<00:41:38.841> think<00:41:39.210> he<00:41:39.290> had<00:41:40.510> a<00:41:41.297> big<00:41:41.474> impact<00:41:41.939> on<00:41:42.036> my<00:41:42.196> leadership<00:41:42.678> in<00:41:42.758> my<00:41:42.919> previous<00:41:43.240> business<00:41:43.545> that<00:41:43.706> continues<00:41:44.203> to<00:41:44.846> pay<00:41:45.006> dividend<00:41:45.247> today.
00:41:46.050 --> 00:41:52.248
Tony,<00:41:46.516> thank<00:41:46.756> you<00:41:46.837> so<00:41:47.029> much<00:41:47.575> for<00:41:47.736> everything<00:41:48.057> you're<00:41:48.202> doing,<00:41:48.683> the<00:41:48.731> mission<00:41:49.036> of<00:41:49.117> the<00:41:49.245> company,<00:41:50.289> and<00:41:50.385> for<00:41:50.465> coming<00:41:50.771> on<00:41:50.851> the<00:41:50.931> show<00:41:51.188> and<00:41:51.268> sharing<00:41:51.573> your<00:41:51.670> wisdom<00:41:51.911> with<00:41:52.087> us.
00:41:52.376 --> 00:41:53.067
Really<00:41:52.553> appreciate<00:41:53.018> it.
00:41:53.500 --> 00:41:56.021
