AI Med Global CEO Navid Alipour: Changing medicine through the power of AI

Show notes

The mammogram that reads your heart

Navid Alipour is the only person in his family who is not a doctor. His father is a retired cardiologist. His brothers are physicians. On his wife's side, her father, her stepfather, and her sisters all practice medicine. He went to law school and business school instead and spent years in finance before starting a venture fund in San Diego.

That fund, Analytics Ventures, is how he ended up in medicine anyway. Around 2012, he met a group of scientists at UC San Diego who had spent their careers finding anomalies in space weather data for NASA and Los Alamos. They had no business plan. They had a pitch: anywhere someone needed a prediction, a forecast, or a flag on something in an image that did not belong, their methods would work.

"We said, 'Well, we're in San Diego; it's a healthcare town. What can we do in healthcare?'" Alipour told the CEO.com Podcast. He asked whether they could find breast cancer in a mammogram better than the computer-aided detection radiologists already used. "They very confidently said, 'Yeah, we can do that.'"

The company they built is CureMetrix. A second company, CureMatch, came later. Alipour runs both under the name AI Med Global. The interview was recorded on May 24, 2023.

CureMetrix's first product, cmTriage, received FDA clearance in March 2019. It sorts a radiologist's stack of screening mammograms so the suspicious ones get read first. On the podcast, Alipour called it "99% accurate." The FDA's clearance summary reports something narrower: an area under the curve of 0.951, with 84.4 percent sensitivity at 94 percent specificity on the test dataset. Those are strong numbers for a triage tool. They are not the same as 99 percent accuracy, and the difference matters when the software is deciding which mammogram a doctor looks at next.

He also said the system has found cancers as much as six years before a radiologist did, based on images sent to CureMetrix by institutions that already knew the outcome. That is his account. CureMetrix has not published a study supporting the six-year figure.

What he wanted to talk about was the heart.

Arteries calcify as people age. In women, the small arteries of the breast calcify too, and a mammogram picks it up. For decades, radiologists have noted it, or not, and moved on. Alipour's team decided to measure it and score it.

His case for why runs through his father's specialty. Men with heart disease tend to get chest pain or shortness of breath, go to a doctor, and leave with a statin. Women frequently get no warning. "You hear about them dying at 54 or 58 or 46," he said. He pictured a woman of 40 or 42 at her first mammogram, in decent health, no family history she knows of, whose scan shows calcification in her arteries. She goes to a cardiologist. She gets an EKG, blood work, and a stress test. She starts a statin a decade before what would otherwise have been her first and possibly last cardiac event. Same image, no extra radiation, no extra discomfort. "It's a two-for-one," he said.

When he said it, the product did not yet exist as far as the FDA was concerned. He described it as close. That October, the agency cleared cmAngio, the company's software for detecting breast arterial calcification on screening mammograms. CureMetrix announced it as the first clearance of its kind. Clearance was extended to GE Healthcare machines in April 2025. As of July 2026, the company said the software was in use at more than 400 imaging sites. In August 2026, the FDA cleared cmAngio 2.0, which measures how much calcification is present and, using a reference library of more than 170,000 studies, tells a patient how she compares with women her age.

The underlying science is not CureMetrix's alone. A 2022 study of 5,059 postmenopausal women published in Circulation: Cardiovascular Imaging found that women with breast arterial calcification on a mammogram had a higher rate of heart disease and stroke over the following years, and argued the finding should count as a cardiovascular risk enhancer. The study did not use CureMetrix software. It used Kaiser Permanente mammograms and a research measurement. Whether an AI score changes what cardiologists do with the information is the open question.

The second company started with an oncologist. Dr. Razelle Kurzrock was at UC San Diego's Moores Cancer Center when Alipour's fund met her. She was, he said, treating patients transferred to her on their deathbeds, some of whom went on to live much longer. She was also the kind of person who saw one patient at a time. "She would've never created CureMatch on her own," Alipour said. So they built it around her.

Kurzrock, who is Canadian, likes to say cancer is a snowflake. No two are molecularly the same. CureMatch takes the next-generation sequencing report on a patient's tumor, a 30-page document Alipour compared to a 23andMe result for the cancer, and scores possible drug combinations against it. For a three-drug regimen, the number of combinations is about four and a half million. "That's beyond human cognition. I don't care how smart anyone is."

The company has no lab and does not want one. It is software. In January 2023, the American Medical Association issued a Category III CPT code for the service, effective that July. The code lets oncologists bill for it. It does not require any insurer to pay.

"We're not replacing the doctor, we're empowering the doctor," Alipour said. "We're another arrow in their quiver."

The conversation wandered, the way good ones do. Clint mentioned that his bed tracks his sleep. Alipour said he tracks his too, feels fine on six and a half hours, and is trying to get to seven. He called it gamification and meant it as a compliment. He talked about biological age versus chronological age, about genomic tests that tell a 59-year-old he is metabolically 49, and about not wanting to spend the last 10 years of a long life in a nursing home.

On whether the big companies would eat AI the way they ate everything else, he told the stories he likes. IBM handed Microsoft the operating system. Xerox showed Steve Jobs the Macintosh and declined to build it. Blockbuster's CEO scoffed at Netflix on an earnings call, and Netflix, on its last few pennies, flew to Blockbuster headquarters to needle him. Amazon, he pointed out, still runs on two-pizza teams. "The pendulum swings," he said. Layoffs push people out of Google and into their own garages. "The next Google, Facebook, Apple, Amazon is being built right now."

He was less settled on privacy. He imagined Apple owning an insurance company and raising your premium because your watch says you slept six and a half hours. He put the United States somewhere between Europe's rules and China's absence of them, and said China's willingness to use patient data without asking will produce real advances, some of which Americans will benefit from. "It's a delicate balance to strike."

Asked about jobs, he went to the automobile. It put the horse people out of work and created gas stations, factories, and mechanics. AI, he said, will need people with doctorates in ethics to tell Ford what a driverless car does when a truck is about to hit it, and there are pedestrians on the left. Fewer taxi drivers, maybe fewer lawyers. He added: "The lawyers are never going to go away."

Near the end, Clint asked what headline he expected by 2030. Alipour offered one: average lifespan reaches 100, and the first person lives to 150. Then he hedged to 2035. It is now 2026. U.S. life expectancy at birth was 79.0 years in 2024, according to the CDC, up 0.6 years from 2023. The prediction has nine years left.

He knows the timelines are long. Regulators, he said, are always behind the technology, in healthcare as in everything else, and that is how it should be, because a mammogram is not a pizza delivery app. What keeps the company moving is smaller than the headline. "If we can do things even one day faster, we're going to impact someone's life."

I'm<00:00:15.024> not<00:00:15.251> really<00:00:15.365> sure<00:00:15.592> what<00:00:15.754> this<00:00:15.981> thing<00:00:16.160> is.

00:00:16.792 --> 00:00:17.522
I<00:00:16.890> think<00:00:17.068> it's<00:00:17.230> a<00:00:17.295> show.

00:00:18.440 --> 00:00:22.388
Well,<00:00:18.650> uh,<00:00:19.117> but<00:00:19.423> you,<00:00:19.761> you<00:00:19.987> being<00:00:20.229> on<00:00:20.342> here<00:00:20.487> certainly<00:00:20.970> uplevels<00:00:21.534> it<00:00:21.615> no<00:00:21.711> matter<00:00:22.001> what<00:00:22.162> it<00:00:22.259> is.

00:00:22.968 --> 00:00:26.691
Well,<00:00:23.049> I<00:00:23.145> don't<00:00:23.290> know<00:00:23.403> about<00:00:23.693> that,<00:00:23.854> Clint,<00:00:24.257> but<00:00:24.451> it's<00:00:24.612> a<00:00:24.676> pleasure<00:00:24.999> to<00:00:25.160> be<00:00:25.385> here<00:00:25.643> with<00:00:25.869> you<00:00:25.982> and<00:00:26.207> your<00:00:26.320> listeners.

00:00:27.988 --> 00:00:41.556
Yeah,<00:00:28.373> hey,<00:00:28.710> uh,<00:00:29.592> you're<00:00:29.688> doing<00:00:29.929> some<00:00:30.330> really,<00:00:31.035> really<00:00:31.452> interesting<00:00:32.014> things,<00:00:32.719> which<00:00:32.880> is<00:00:33.040> why<00:00:33.120> I<00:00:33.280> wanted<00:00:33.473> to<00:00:33.537> reach<00:00:33.842> out<00:00:34.034> to<00:00:34.163> you,<00:00:34.243> particularly<00:00:35.221> around<00:00:36.247> artificial<00:00:36.745> intelligence<00:00:37.643> around<00:00:38.749> cancer<00:00:39.535> and<00:00:39.695> heart<00:00:40.096> disease<00:00:40.978> detection.

00:00:42.197 --> 00:00:43.256
Maybe<00:00:42.518> we<00:00:42.662> start<00:00:43.079> there.

00:00:43.320 --> 00:00:45.725
Like,<00:00:43.625> how<00:00:43.801> did<00:00:44.026> you<00:00:44.202> figure<00:00:44.603> this<00:00:44.908> out?

00:00:45.950 --> 00:00:57.816
Yeah,<00:00:46.207> no,<00:00:46.367> it's<00:00:46.543> a<00:00:46.672> great<00:00:46.848> question,<00:00:47.345> and,<00:00:47.666> uh,<00:00:47.730> I'll<00:00:48.195> start<00:00:48.516> out<00:00:48.692> by,<00:00:49.238> uh,<00:00:49.655> sharing<00:00:50.056> that<00:00:50.296> I,<00:00:50.521> I<00:00:50.681> joke<00:00:51.178> that<00:00:51.403> I'm<00:00:52.221> the<00:00:52.702> black<00:00:53.022> sheep<00:00:53.279> of<00:00:53.343> the<00:00:53.503> family<00:00:54.145> in<00:00:54.305> that,<00:00:54.930> uh,<00:00:55.732> uh,<00:00:56.533> everyone's<00:00:56.854> a<00:00:56.886> doctor<00:00:57.190> except<00:00:57.511> for<00:00:57.591> me.

00:00:59.258 --> 00:01:06.376
So<00:00:59.739> my,<00:01:00.076> my<00:01:00.381> father<00:01:00.717> is<00:01:00.813> a<00:01:00.878> retired<00:01:01.262> cardiologist,<00:01:02.016> my<00:01:02.224> brothers<00:01:02.641> are<00:01:02.721> doctors,<00:01:03.539> my<00:01:03.763> wife's<00:01:03.988> side,<00:01:04.805> her<00:01:04.949> dad,<00:01:05.206> her<00:01:05.286> stepdad,<00:01:05.863> her<00:01:05.943> sisters.

00:01:06.953 --> 00:01:10.031
Um,<00:01:07.130> so<00:01:07.274> I<00:01:07.290> have<00:01:07.434> a<00:01:07.514> law<00:01:07.659> and<00:01:07.771> business<00:01:08.091> background,<00:01:08.572> but<00:01:08.717> healthcare<00:01:08.957> has<00:01:09.117> always<00:01:09.358> been<00:01:09.454> in<00:01:09.550> my<00:01:09.775> blood.

00:01:10.095 --> 00:01:14.905
And<00:01:10.721> we<00:01:11.282> had<00:01:11.682> a—<00:01:12.163> we<00:01:12.260> have<00:01:12.805> a<00:01:12.917> small<00:01:13.318> venture<00:01:13.686> fund<00:01:13.927> here<00:01:14.103> in<00:01:14.183> San<00:01:14.424> Diego.

00:01:15.530 --> 00:01:32.763
Um,<00:01:16.027> and<00:01:16.171> before<00:01:16.412> the<00:01:16.572> current<00:01:16.812> fund,<00:01:17.854> um,<00:01:18.191> we<00:01:18.287> had<00:01:18.431> met<00:01:18.592> these<00:01:18.704> scientists,<00:01:19.474> literally<00:01:19.794> rocket<00:01:20.099> scientists<00:01:20.756> at<00:01:20.916> UC<00:01:21.157> San<00:01:21.381> Diego,<00:01:21.798> that<00:01:21.942> had<00:01:22.103> done<00:01:22.279> work<00:01:22.503> for<00:01:22.600> NASA<00:01:23.241> and<00:01:23.802> Los<00:01:24.026> Alamos<00:01:24.603> in<00:01:24.667> the<00:01:24.828> past,<00:01:25.645> helping<00:01:25.950> detect<00:01:26.303> anomalies<00:01:26.767> in<00:01:26.912> space<00:01:27.248> weather,<00:01:27.569> which<00:01:28.034> I<00:01:28.114> knew<00:01:28.290> nothing<00:01:28.531> about,<00:01:28.932> but<00:01:29.092> these<00:01:29.316> guys<00:01:29.797> were,<00:01:30.599> you<00:01:30.631> know,<00:01:31.560> what<00:01:31.977> did<00:01:32.122> this<00:01:32.282> for<00:01:32.362> NASA.

00:01:33.500 --> 00:01:36.626
And<00:01:33.644> so<00:01:33.805> when<00:01:33.917> they<00:01:34.045> came<00:01:34.221> to<00:01:34.366> us,<00:01:35.007> they<00:01:35.103> didn't<00:01:35.263> have<00:01:35.424> a<00:01:35.504> business<00:01:35.808> plan<00:01:35.921> or<00:01:36.049> business<00:01:36.386> model.

00:01:36.690 --> 00:01:38.806
They<00:01:36.770> just<00:01:36.898> said,<00:01:37.043> hey,<00:01:37.171> we're<00:01:37.267> these<00:01:37.572> AI<00:01:37.748> machine<00:01:38.133> learning<00:01:38.389> experts.

00:01:38.854 --> 00:01:47.655
And<00:01:38.934> this<00:01:39.031> is<00:01:39.111> back<00:01:39.367> in<00:01:39.495> 2013,<00:01:41.595> maybe<00:01:41.836> late<00:01:41.996> 2012<00:01:42.557> even,<00:01:42.798> when<00:01:42.958> we<00:01:43.038> first<00:01:43.278> met<00:01:43.519> them,<00:01:44.481> when<00:01:44.625> it<00:01:44.705> wasn't<00:01:44.962> in<00:01:45.042> the<00:01:45.138> news<00:01:45.427> as<00:01:45.523> much<00:01:46.084> as<00:01:46.244> it<00:01:46.324> is,<00:01:46.789> uh,<00:01:47.286> currently.

00:01:48.408 --> 00:02:02.872
And<00:01:48.488> they<00:01:48.568> said<00:01:48.793> anywhere<00:01:49.113> you<00:01:49.210> could<00:01:49.354> apply<00:01:49.691> it<00:01:49.851> to<00:01:49.915> make<00:01:50.155> a<00:01:50.236> prediction<00:01:50.813> or<00:01:50.957> recommendation<00:01:51.534> or<00:01:51.678> forecast<00:01:52.576> or<00:01:52.656> to<00:01:52.897> detect<00:01:53.377> anomalies<00:01:53.842> that<00:01:54.003> don't<00:01:54.179> belong<00:01:54.644> in<00:01:54.820> images<00:01:55.141> or<00:01:55.285> data<00:01:55.510> There's<00:01:56.504> an<00:01:56.648> opportunity<00:01:57.306> to<00:01:58.333> make<00:01:58.573> revenue<00:01:59.055> on<00:01:59.151> a<00:01:59.215> business<00:01:59.504> sense<00:01:59.712> or<00:02:00.434> have<00:02:00.675> efficiencies<00:02:01.958> and<00:02:02.439> save<00:02:02.696> money.

00:02:06.449 --> 00:02:07.508
What<00:02:06.610> can<00:02:06.690> we<00:02:06.834> do<00:02:06.947> in<00:02:07.075> healthcare?

00:02:08.198 --> 00:02:15.320
And<00:02:08.535> in<00:02:08.615> the<00:02:08.679> interest<00:02:08.936> of<00:02:09.016> time,<00:02:09.240> we<00:02:09.273> said,<00:02:09.417> can<00:02:09.641> you<00:02:09.802> detect<00:02:10.379> breast<00:02:10.700> cancer<00:02:11.518> in<00:02:11.647> a<00:02:11.679> mammogram<00:02:12.304> better<00:02:12.545> than<00:02:12.705> existing<00:02:13.491> computer-assisted<00:02:14.245> detection<00:02:14.710> technologies?

00:02:16.074 --> 00:02:17.935
And<00:02:16.154> they<00:02:16.314> very<00:02:16.539> confidently<00:02:16.860> said,<00:02:17.036> yeah,<00:02:17.277> we<00:02:17.421> can<00:02:17.518> do<00:02:17.678> that.

00:02:18.480 --> 00:02:22.811
And<00:02:18.560> so<00:02:18.897> that<00:02:19.057> was<00:02:19.266> the<00:02:19.362> genesis<00:02:19.940> of<00:02:20.004> starting<00:02:21.287> the<00:02:21.367> first<00:02:21.688> company,<00:02:22.073> CureMetrix.

00:02:23.373 --> 00:02:32.766
Where<00:02:23.533> now<00:02:23.774> fast<00:02:24.160> forward,<00:02:24.802> we<00:02:25.380> got<00:02:25.605> the<00:02:25.685> first<00:02:25.862> of<00:02:25.958> its<00:02:26.167> kind<00:02:26.584> FDA-cleared<00:02:28.109> product<00:02:29.715> where<00:02:29.940> we're<00:02:30.052> 99%<00:02:30.984> accurate<00:02:31.465> in<00:02:31.562> detecting<00:02:32.043> breast<00:02:32.284> cancer.

00:02:33.729 --> 00:02:38.000
And<00:02:33.954> what<00:02:34.195> we<00:02:34.452> are,<00:02:35.415> knock<00:02:35.656> on<00:02:35.817> wood,<00:02:36.218> close<00:02:36.539> to<00:02:36.619> getting<00:02:37.085> cleared<00:02:37.503> by<00:02:37.599> the<00:02:37.743> FDA.

00:02:38.048 --> 00:02:44.246
We're<00:02:38.145> just<00:02:38.370> software,<00:02:38.932> we're<00:02:39.108> digital<00:02:39.510> health,<00:02:39.911> but<00:02:40.007> it's<00:02:40.473> a<00:02:40.553> diagnostic,<00:02:41.196> so<00:02:42.063> you<00:02:42.159> have<00:02:42.255> to<00:02:42.320> go<00:02:42.480> through<00:02:42.560> the<00:02:42.641> FDA<00:02:43.845> for<00:02:44.005> this.

00:02:45.691 --> 00:02:49.736
We<00:02:45.836> found<00:02:46.093> we<00:02:46.173> can<00:02:46.414> also<00:02:46.719> detect<00:02:47.137> heart<00:02:47.538> disease<00:02:48.662> from<00:02:48.902> the<00:02:48.983> same<00:02:49.287> mammogram.

00:02:49.849 --> 00:02:50.699
So<00:02:50.009> it's<00:02:50.105> a<00:02:50.185> 2-for-1.

00:02:51.565 --> 00:02:52.110
No<00:02:51.789> way.

00:02:52.254 --> 00:02:52.350
Wow.

00:02:53.313 --> 00:03:17.128
And,<00:02:53.537> and<00:02:53.633> that's<00:02:53.938> where—<00:02:54.179> not<00:02:54.355> to<00:02:54.499> take<00:02:54.740> away<00:02:54.980> from<00:02:55.157> breast<00:02:55.462> cancer,<00:02:56.504> uh,<00:02:56.841> but<00:02:56.985> heart<00:02:57.242> disease<00:02:57.563> is<00:02:57.707> called<00:02:57.883> the<00:02:57.963> silent<00:02:58.509> killer<00:02:58.846> amongst<00:02:59.246> women,<00:03:00.289> and<00:03:00.353> that<00:03:00.401> 65%<00:03:01.235> of<00:03:01.411> them<00:03:01.572> die<00:03:01.812> on<00:03:01.893> that<00:03:02.053> first<00:03:02.278> heart<00:03:02.454> attack<00:03:03.176> completely<00:03:03.577> asymptomatic,<00:03:04.443> where<00:03:04.603> us<00:03:04.843> men<00:03:05.020> tend<00:03:05.244> to<00:03:05.325> have<00:03:05.501> chest<00:03:05.806> pain<00:03:05.966> or<00:03:06.046> shortness<00:03:06.463> of<00:03:06.543> breath,<00:03:06.880> and<00:03:07.009> we<00:03:07.105> go<00:03:07.185> to<00:03:07.249> our<00:03:07.409> doctor<00:03:07.826> and<00:03:08.468> they<00:03:08.548> tell<00:03:08.773> you<00:03:08.869> to<00:03:08.949> eat<00:03:09.206> and<00:03:09.334> exercise<00:03:09.911> and<00:03:10.072> get<00:03:10.216> on<00:03:10.328> a<00:03:10.392> statin,<00:03:11.034> and<00:03:11.098> hopefully<00:03:11.371> no<00:03:11.515> surgical<00:03:12.076> procedures<00:03:12.557> needed,<00:03:12.798> but<00:03:12.958> just<00:03:13.119> getting<00:03:13.423> on<00:03:13.456> that<00:03:13.664> statin<00:03:14.722> reduces<00:03:15.059> the<00:03:15.123> risk<00:03:15.364> of<00:03:15.444> a<00:03:15.508> cardiac<00:03:15.989> event<00:03:16.326> by<00:03:16.422> 50<00:03:16.711> to<00:03:16.807> 60%.

00:03:18.330 --> 00:03:25.193
Now,<00:03:18.571> we<00:03:18.731> get<00:03:18.892> those<00:03:19.052> symptoms,<00:03:19.533> but<00:03:19.709> if<00:03:19.854> women<00:03:20.239> don't,<00:03:20.639> then<00:03:20.752> you<00:03:20.880> hear<00:03:21.056> about<00:03:21.361> them,<00:03:21.698> you<00:03:21.778> know,<00:03:22.403> you<00:03:22.435> know,<00:03:22.660> dying<00:03:22.997> at<00:03:23.205> 54<00:03:23.606> or<00:03:23.862> 58<00:03:24.424> or<00:03:24.504> 46.

00:03:25.787 --> 00:03:54.337
And<00:03:25.883> imagine<00:03:26.412> if<00:03:26.572> that<00:03:26.829> woman<00:03:27.134> at<00:03:27.230> the<00:03:27.390> age<00:03:27.486> of<00:03:27.711> 40<00:03:28.032> or<00:03:28.192> 42<00:03:28.914> on<00:03:29.010> her<00:03:29.154> first<00:03:29.395> mammogram,<00:03:29.988> not<00:03:31.960> a<00:03:32.024> triathlete,<00:03:33.387> eats<00:03:33.628> well,<00:03:34.526> maybe<00:03:35.584> not<00:03:35.873> great<00:03:36.113> all<00:03:36.209> the<00:03:36.290> time,<00:03:36.691> but<00:03:37.091> in<00:03:37.236> relatively<00:03:37.637> good<00:03:37.797> health,<00:03:38.679> uh,<00:03:38.855> doesn't<00:03:39.176> know<00:03:39.336> of<00:03:39.416> any<00:03:39.577> heart<00:03:39.769> disease<00:03:40.122> in<00:03:40.154> the<00:03:40.298> family,<00:03:40.699> but<00:03:40.860> now<00:03:41.036> in<00:03:41.325> her<00:03:41.966> mammogram,<00:03:42.543> we<00:03:42.767> detect<00:03:43.200> and<00:03:43.280> score<00:03:43.649> the<00:03:43.729> calcification<00:03:44.482> in<00:03:44.546> the<00:03:44.706> arteries,<00:03:45.748> and<00:03:45.908> that<00:03:46.229> leads<00:03:46.469> to<00:03:46.629> her<00:03:46.870> to<00:03:47.014> go<00:03:47.174> to<00:03:47.206> a<00:03:47.270> cardiologist,<00:03:48.456> do<00:03:48.632> an<00:03:48.776> EKG,<00:03:49.273> do<00:03:50.058> a<00:03:50.395> blood<00:03:50.635> test,<00:03:51.356> stress<00:03:51.821> test,<00:03:52.318> and,<00:03:52.719> and,<00:03:53.023> uh,<00:03:53.600> get<00:03:53.824> on<00:03:53.920> a<00:03:53.985> statin.

00:03:54.802 --> 00:04:05.779
And<00:03:54.882> now<00:03:55.267> you<00:03:55.331> have<00:03:55.443> a<00:03:55.507> 42-year-old<00:03:56.164> woman<00:03:56.565> that,<00:03:56.805> but<00:03:56.981> for<00:03:57.206> that,<00:03:58.391> um,<00:03:59.289> would<00:03:59.770> not<00:04:00.074> see<00:04:00.154> a<00:04:00.170> cardiologist<00:04:00.971> till<00:04:01.532> a<00:04:01.596> potential<00:04:01.949> heart<00:04:02.109> attack<00:04:02.414> 10<00:04:02.574> years<00:04:02.814> later,<00:04:03.215> if<00:04:03.327> not<00:04:03.455> earlier,<00:04:03.872> uh,<00:04:04.481> assuming<00:04:04.978> she<00:04:05.138> survives<00:04:05.619> that.

00:04:06.115 --> 00:04:08.650
So<00:04:06.244> that<00:04:06.420> early<00:04:06.724> detection<00:04:07.863> is<00:04:08.168> huge.

00:04:09.067 --> 00:04:12.569
And<00:04:09.373> calcification<00:04:10.272> builds<00:04:10.529> up<00:04:10.674> in<00:04:10.898> all<00:04:11.075> our<00:04:11.316> bodies,<00:04:11.782> men<00:04:12.103> and<00:04:12.280> women.

00:04:13.163 --> 00:04:20.246
We<00:04:13.324> just<00:04:13.484> have<00:04:13.709> the<00:04:13.789> ability<00:04:14.432> to<00:04:14.608> detect<00:04:15.010> it<00:04:15.074> from<00:04:15.235> this,<00:04:16.038> this<00:04:16.231> existing,<00:04:17.724> uh,<00:04:18.222> procedure<00:04:18.929> called<00:04:19.411> a<00:04:19.443> mammogram,<00:04:20.069> right?

00:04:21.515 --> 00:04:23.057
Women<00:04:21.740> don't<00:04:21.916> love<00:04:22.157> it,<00:04:22.398> needless<00:04:22.719> to<00:04:22.800> say.

00:04:23.587 --> 00:04:29.256
But<00:04:23.683> if<00:04:23.763> you're<00:04:23.924> going<00:04:24.309> in<00:04:25.193> for<00:04:25.289> no<00:04:25.514> extra<00:04:25.835> radiation,<00:04:26.413> no<00:04:26.734> extra<00:04:27.281> discomfort,<00:04:28.517> it's<00:04:28.662> a<00:04:28.742> two-for-one.

00:04:36.864 --> 00:04:46.000

00:04:59.526 --> 00:05:06.649
Do<00:04:59.607> you<00:04:59.704> think<00:04:59.800> we're<00:04:59.930> at<00:05:00.043> the<00:05:00.172> beginning<00:05:00.607> or<00:05:00.963> has<00:05:01.140> this<00:05:01.398> been,<00:05:02.558> something<00:05:02.911> that's<00:05:03.087> been<00:05:03.248> working<00:05:03.489> on<00:05:03.585> for<00:05:03.665> a<00:05:03.745> long<00:05:03.986> time,<00:05:04.291> and<00:05:04.387> now<00:05:04.612> AI's<00:05:04.965> in<00:05:05.029> the<00:05:05.109> conversation<00:05:05.654> because<00:05:05.847> of<00:05:05.975> ChatGPT.

00:05:06.713 --> 00:05:10.162
I'm<00:05:06.890> just<00:05:07.098> wondering,<00:05:07.515> like,<00:05:08.462> uh,<00:05:08.719> where<00:05:08.943> you<00:05:09.104> kind<00:05:09.264> of<00:05:09.360> think<00:05:09.521> we're<00:05:09.745> at<00:05:09.922> there.

00:05:10.708 --> 00:05:12.457
So<00:05:11.109> that's<00:05:11.350> a<00:05:11.590> really<00:05:11.927> good<00:05:12.152> question.

00:05:12.505 --> 00:05:20.254
So<00:05:12.649> to<00:05:12.874> peel<00:05:13.130> back<00:05:13.451> the<00:05:13.676> layers<00:05:13.933> on<00:05:14.013> the<00:05:14.173> onion,<00:05:14.414> as<00:05:14.494> they<00:05:14.590> say,<00:05:14.895> on<00:05:14.975> that,<00:05:16.179> before<00:05:16.483> getting<00:05:16.660> to<00:05:16.804> healthcare,<00:05:17.687> artificial<00:05:18.072> intelligence<00:05:18.649> has<00:05:18.826> been<00:05:18.922> around<00:05:19.371> for<00:05:19.548> decades,<00:05:20.109> right?

00:05:20.350 --> 00:05:23.831
It<00:05:20.590> has<00:05:20.831> these<00:05:21.072> fits<00:05:21.312> and<00:05:21.473> starts,<00:05:21.890> and<00:05:22.034> it's<00:05:22.195> in<00:05:22.259> the<00:05:22.355> news,<00:05:22.644> and<00:05:22.740> then<00:05:22.853> it<00:05:22.981> disappears,<00:05:23.639> right?

00:05:24.826 --> 00:05:33.477
I<00:05:24.986> think<00:05:25.163> the<00:05:25.307> reason<00:05:25.804> it's<00:05:26.029> sustainable<00:05:26.687> now<00:05:26.815> and<00:05:26.927> it's<00:05:27.088> not<00:05:27.248> going<00:05:27.393> to<00:05:27.489> disappear<00:05:29.238> comes<00:05:29.495> down<00:05:29.672> to<00:05:29.800> the<00:05:29.897> fact<00:05:30.138> that<00:05:30.298> we<00:05:30.459> have<00:05:31.904> more<00:05:32.129> data<00:05:32.321> to<00:05:32.450> process,<00:05:33.269> right?

00:05:33.574 --> 00:05:38.182
Whether<00:05:34.071> it's<00:05:34.457> Fitbits<00:05:34.874> we<00:05:35.099> wear,<00:05:35.581> or<00:05:35.902> iWatches,<00:05:36.400> or,<00:05:36.946> you<00:05:36.978> know,<00:05:37.122> any<00:05:37.427> IoT<00:05:37.829> device.

00:05:38.246 --> 00:05:42.373
And<00:05:38.310> I'm<00:05:38.359> not<00:05:38.487> just<00:05:38.712> talking<00:05:39.033> healthcare,<00:05:39.515> but,<00:05:40.478> you<00:05:40.510> know,<00:05:40.639> a<00:05:40.655> Tesla<00:05:41.377> is<00:05:41.522> an<00:05:41.602> IoT<00:05:42.019> device.

00:05:42.421 --> 00:05:43.930
It's<00:05:42.581> connected<00:05:42.983> to<00:05:43.143> the<00:05:43.545> internet.

00:05:44.091 --> 00:05:47.174
As<00:05:44.283> the<00:05:44.412> engineers<00:05:44.845> say,<00:05:45.070> anything<00:05:45.456> that's<00:05:45.616> connected<00:05:45.905> to<00:05:45.953> the<00:05:46.194> internet<00:05:46.580> is<00:05:46.692> a<00:05:46.756> node.

00:05:47.720 --> 00:05:49.486
That<00:05:47.896> node<00:05:48.683> generates<00:05:49.084> data.

00:05:50.112 --> 00:05:51.975
Well,<00:05:50.208> that<00:05:50.369> data<00:05:50.594> is<00:05:50.754> useless<00:05:51.091> unless<00:05:51.316> you<00:05:51.413> can<00:05:51.573> process<00:05:51.894> it.

00:05:52.055 --> 00:05:56.065
So<00:05:52.135> we<00:05:52.231> have<00:05:52.296> more<00:05:52.537> data,<00:05:53.420> we<00:05:53.516> have<00:05:54.046> higher<00:05:54.382> compute<00:05:54.863> capacity<00:05:55.408> to<00:05:55.504> process<00:05:55.905> that.

00:05:56.129 --> 00:06:02.845
There's<00:05:56.306> GPU<00:05:56.771> capacity<00:05:57.267> that<00:05:57.412> was<00:05:57.508> initially<00:05:58.293> these<00:05:58.454> chips<00:05:58.790> built<00:05:58.950> for<00:05:59.175> video<00:05:59.495> games,<00:05:59.832> right,<00:06:00.072> that<00:06:00.233> are<00:06:00.297> now<00:06:00.393> processing<00:06:00.954> data<00:06:01.755> in,<00:06:01.996> in<00:06:02.140> other<00:06:02.236> capacities.

00:06:03.198 --> 00:06:10.780
And<00:06:03.342> third,<00:06:03.903> we<00:06:03.983> have<00:06:04.160> the<00:06:04.240> cloud,<00:06:04.865> right,<00:06:05.025> whether<00:06:05.282> it's<00:06:05.506> Amazon's<00:06:05.923> cloud<00:06:06.243> or<00:06:06.308> Microsoft's<00:06:06.965> or<00:06:07.205> Oracle's<00:06:07.542> or<00:06:07.670> others,<00:06:08.087> but<00:06:08.407> obviously<00:06:08.712> Amazon,<00:06:09.609> Microsoft<00:06:10.010> being<00:06:10.170> the<00:06:10.315> two<00:06:10.475> big<00:06:10.571> ones.

00:06:11.212 --> 00:06:15.219
So<00:06:11.373> you<00:06:11.517> could<00:06:11.693> process<00:06:12.735> data<00:06:13.280> for<00:06:13.360> much<00:06:13.601> cheaper<00:06:13.921> without<00:06:14.178> having<00:06:14.402> your<00:06:14.562> own<00:06:14.658> data<00:06:14.963> center.

00:06:15.604 --> 00:06:23.911
So<00:06:15.764> we<00:06:15.861> use<00:06:16.245> AWS,<00:06:17.367> and<00:06:17.624> I<00:06:17.704> could<00:06:17.928> ramp<00:06:18.185> up<00:06:18.666> and<00:06:19.066> process<00:06:19.387> 10<00:06:19.627> million<00:06:19.868> mammograms<00:06:20.413> tomorrow<00:06:20.765> and<00:06:20.910> ramp<00:06:21.134> it<00:06:21.294> back<00:06:21.471> down<00:06:22.192> And<00:06:22.337> I<00:06:22.353> don't<00:06:22.497> have<00:06:22.594> to<00:06:22.658> have<00:06:22.835> my<00:06:23.060> own<00:06:23.461> hardware.

00:06:24.441 --> 00:06:30.063
And<00:06:24.521> so<00:06:24.618> that's<00:06:25.324> a<00:06:25.485> significant<00:06:26.208> cost<00:06:26.529> saving<00:06:26.802> because<00:06:27.075> you<00:06:27.236> need<00:06:27.975> to<00:06:28.055> train<00:06:28.312> the<00:06:28.440> algorithms<00:06:29.099> and<00:06:29.179> you<00:06:29.324> need<00:06:29.565> this<00:06:29.741> data.

00:06:30.705 --> 00:06:39.057
And<00:06:30.850> so<00:06:31.187> that's<00:06:31.508> where<00:06:31.910> without<00:06:32.456> AWS,<00:06:33.339> we<00:06:33.500> would<00:06:33.628> not<00:06:33.918> be<00:06:34.062> able<00:06:34.159> to<00:06:34.239> do<00:06:34.464> what<00:06:34.721> we<00:06:34.946> do<00:06:35.203> without<00:06:35.620> significantly<00:06:36.568> more<00:06:36.825> investment<00:06:38.013> in<00:06:38.415> the<00:06:38.495> hardware.

00:06:39.604 --> 00:06:43.715
So<00:06:39.941> that's<00:06:40.182> where<00:06:40.342> now<00:06:40.969> more<00:06:41.146> data,<00:06:41.692> higher<00:06:41.804> compute<00:06:42.174> capacity,<00:06:42.752> lower<00:06:42.993> cost<00:06:43.314> to<00:06:43.394> process<00:06:43.651> it.

00:06:43.796 --> 00:06:49.221
And<00:06:44.438> so<00:06:44.583> you<00:06:44.679> have<00:06:44.920> more<00:06:45.081> companies<00:06:45.643> innovating<00:06:46.703> and<00:06:46.848> developing<00:06:47.892> AI<00:06:48.276> for<00:06:48.372> different<00:06:48.597> capabilities.

00:06:49.398 --> 00:06:54.317
Now,<00:06:49.975> within<00:06:50.279> healthcare,<00:06:50.776> healthcare<00:06:51.112> is<00:06:51.240> its<00:06:51.401> own<00:06:51.641> animal,<00:06:52.859> and<00:06:53.099> there's<00:06:53.404> regulatory<00:06:53.980> hurdles.

00:06:54.365 --> 00:06:59.620
We're<00:06:54.445> not<00:06:54.685> just,<00:06:55.406> you<00:06:55.438> know,<00:06:55.823> helping<00:06:56.143> you<00:06:56.384> deliver<00:06:56.704> pizza<00:06:57.089> faster<00:06:57.586> or<00:06:57.810> walk<00:06:57.986> your<00:06:58.146> dog<00:06:58.531> app<00:06:58.707> or<00:06:58.771> a<00:06:58.787> dating<00:06:59.252> app,<00:06:59.428> right?

00:07:01.095 --> 00:07:09.891
And<00:07:01.575> as<00:07:01.687> it<00:07:01.832> should<00:07:01.992> be,<00:07:02.873> because<00:07:03.130> it<00:07:03.274> impacts<00:07:04.379> us<00:07:05.180> at<00:07:05.421> a<00:07:05.757> healthcare<00:07:08.081> level,<00:07:08.305> it's<00:07:08.722> regulated,<00:07:09.282> and<00:07:09.363> that's<00:07:09.587> a<00:07:09.603> good<00:07:09.827> thing.

00:07:10.981 --> 00:07:11.830
So<00:07:11.109> it<00:07:11.189> takes<00:07:11.446> longer.

00:07:12.727 --> 00:07:17.523
Now,<00:07:13.208> the<00:07:13.368> law<00:07:13.593> is<00:07:13.833> always<00:07:14.073> gonna<00:07:14.234> be<00:07:14.394> behind<00:07:14.650> technology,<00:07:15.853> in<00:07:16.013> any<00:07:16.254> industry,<00:07:16.656> including<00:07:17.057> healthcare.

00:07:17.619 --> 00:07:20.912
I<00:07:17.635> mean,<00:07:18.021> in<00:07:18.165> cryptocurrencies,<00:07:19.065> right,<00:07:19.289> the<00:07:19.386> law<00:07:19.530> is<00:07:19.771> always<00:07:20.028> behind<00:07:20.349> technology.

00:07:21.474 --> 00:07:49.491

Yeah,<00:08:36.536> isn't<00:08:36.697> that<00:08:36.922> crazy?

00:08:37.339 --> 00:08:38.671
That's,<00:08:37.644> that's<00:08:37.965> so<00:08:38.205> wonderful.

00:08:38.783 --> 00:08:39.874
That<00:08:38.928> sounds<00:08:39.168> so<00:08:39.409> exciting.

00:08:39.923 --> 00:08:40.998
What<00:08:40.067> a<00:08:40.083> time<00:08:40.308> to<00:08:40.452> be<00:08:40.548> alive.

It<00:08:42.137> is<00:08:42.554> indeed.

00:08:43.036 --> 00:08:46.823
And,<00:08:43.501> um,<00:08:43.983> at<00:08:44.384> the<00:08:44.464> end<00:08:44.625> of<00:08:44.705> the<00:08:44.801> day,<00:08:44.962> our<00:08:45.202> body,<00:08:45.523> our<00:08:45.668> DNA<00:08:46.085> is<00:08:46.245> software.

It's<00:08:47.048> code,<00:08:47.770> right?

00:08:48.075 --> 00:08:48.412
Right.

00:08:48.990 --> 00:09:04.636
And<00:08:49.150> so<00:08:49.776> if<00:08:50.081> we<00:08:50.338> can<00:08:50.659> tap<00:08:51.140> that,<00:08:51.605> all<00:08:51.702> that,<00:08:52.087> all<00:08:52.183> the<00:08:52.263> information<00:08:52.825> is<00:08:53.050> there<00:08:53.948> to<00:08:54.013> say,<00:08:54.510> you<00:08:54.542> know,<00:08:54.831> Clint,<00:08:55.393> based<00:08:55.634> on<00:08:55.714> your<00:08:55.874> molecular<00:08:56.500> makeup,<00:08:57.142> you<00:08:57.335> need<00:08:57.640> these<00:08:57.880> probiotics,<00:08:58.827> or<00:08:59.485> you're<00:08:59.710> prone<00:09:00.047> to<00:09:00.352> this<00:09:00.753> disease<00:09:01.347> or<00:09:01.555> ailment,<00:09:01.956> so<00:09:02.213> let's<00:09:02.454> be<00:09:02.614> proactive<00:09:03.481> in<00:09:03.658> your<00:09:03.978> care,<00:09:04.444> right?

00:09:04.765 --> 00:09:10.200
Or<00:09:05.265> to<00:09:05.491> detect,<00:09:07.692> you<00:09:07.757> know,<00:09:08.016> an<00:09:08.242> anomaly<00:09:08.825> in<00:09:08.906> an<00:09:09.067> image<00:09:09.391> years<00:09:09.715> earlier.

00:09:11.206 --> 00:09:26.882
I<00:09:11.222> just<00:09:11.384> saw<00:09:11.562> a<00:09:11.626> piece<00:09:12.015> on<00:09:12.128> CNN,<00:09:13.325> esteemed<00:09:13.810> institution<00:09:14.377> back<00:09:14.765> East,<00:09:15.105> that<00:09:16.480> was<00:09:16.901> saying<00:09:17.176> how<00:09:17.289> they<00:09:18.098> just<00:09:18.502> for<00:09:18.664> their<00:09:18.810> own<00:09:18.988> personal<00:09:19.457> patients<00:09:19.861> at<00:09:19.894> this<00:09:20.104> clinic<00:09:20.250> were<00:09:20.427> detecting<00:09:21.819> breast<00:09:22.061> cancer,<00:09:22.870> you<00:09:22.951> know,<00:09:23.339> up<00:09:23.501> to<00:09:24.003> 4<00:09:24.310> years<00:09:24.569> earlier<00:09:25.944> is<00:09:26.170> what<00:09:26.267> they<00:09:26.364> were<00:09:26.445> talking<00:09:26.736> about.

00:09:26.931 --> 00:09:30.444
Well,<00:09:27.869> we're<00:09:28.031> detecting<00:09:28.516> cancer<00:09:28.856> in<00:09:28.937> some<00:09:29.163> cases<00:09:29.390> 6<00:09:29.670> years<00:09:30.164> earlier.

00:09:30.592 --> 00:09:34.574
So<00:09:30.806> we're<00:09:30.971> getting<00:09:31.235> images<00:09:31.646> from<00:09:31.828> an<00:09:31.959> institution<00:09:33.116> and<00:09:33.212> they<00:09:33.292> don't<00:09:33.452> tell<00:09:33.677> us<00:09:33.853> what<00:09:34.013> they<00:09:34.157> found.

00:09:34.975 --> 00:09:40.503
And<00:09:35.215> we<00:09:35.455> not<00:09:35.680> only<00:09:35.856> detect<00:09:36.257> the<00:09:36.337> cancer,<00:09:37.523> but<00:09:37.619> in<00:09:37.875> some<00:09:38.099> cases<00:09:38.484> we've<00:09:38.644> detected<00:09:39.061> it<00:09:39.141> up<00:09:39.237> to<00:09:39.365> 6<00:09:39.702> years<00:09:40.118> earlier.

00:09:41.160 --> 00:09:51.672
So<00:09:41.320> imagine<00:09:42.202> if<00:09:42.746> just<00:09:43.291> the<00:09:43.772> odds<00:09:44.092> of<00:09:44.269> survival<00:09:44.749> being<00:09:44.910> significantly<00:09:45.454> higher,<00:09:46.336> um,<00:09:46.817> as<00:09:47.057> well<00:09:47.233> as<00:09:47.393> the<00:09:47.538> cost<00:09:48.034> to<00:09:48.179> the<00:09:48.259> healthcare<00:09:48.611> system,<00:09:48.996> which<00:09:49.220> all<00:09:49.332> of<00:09:49.477> our<00:09:49.621> healthcare<00:09:49.957> insurance<00:09:50.422> keeps<00:09:50.582> going<00:09:50.758> up<00:09:50.919> and<00:09:50.999> up<00:09:51.095> and<00:09:51.223> up<00:09:51.335> every<00:09:51.544> year.

00:09:52.185 --> 00:09:53.098
We're<00:09:52.265> not<00:09:52.361> getting<00:09:52.601> any<00:09:52.745> healthier,<00:09:53.002> right?

00:09:53.242 --> 00:09:53.979
We're<00:09:53.354> paying<00:09:53.867> more.

00:09:54.604 --> 00:10:05.672
But<00:09:54.925> if<00:09:55.149> you<00:09:55.325> can<00:09:55.630> help<00:09:55.822> deliver<00:09:56.207> better<00:09:56.511> care<00:09:57.328> and<00:09:57.473> reduce<00:09:57.969> wasteful<00:09:58.386> spend<00:09:58.947> and<00:09:59.556> take<00:09:59.797> care<00:09:59.973> of<00:10:00.070> it,<00:10:00.359> you<00:10:00.439> know,<00:10:00.599> ailment<00:10:00.953> or<00:10:01.081> treatment<00:10:01.482> earlier,<00:10:01.900> it<00:10:02.044> costs<00:10:02.558> much<00:10:02.927> less<00:10:04.051> and<00:10:04.227> the<00:10:04.372> odds<00:10:04.548> of<00:10:04.613> surviving<00:10:05.190> are<00:10:05.271> much<00:10:05.495> higher.

00:10:06.635 --> 00:10:10.070
Where<00:10:06.715> are<00:10:06.876> we<00:10:07.101> at<00:10:07.277> with<00:10:07.518> precision,<00:10:08.160> precision,<00:10:09.268> uh,<00:10:09.460> medicine?

00:10:10.167 --> 00:10:20.889
And<00:10:10.231> I'm—<00:10:10.712> you<00:10:10.953> may<00:10:11.194> have<00:10:11.306> to<00:10:11.435> define<00:10:11.772> this<00:10:12.093> for<00:10:12.269> me<00:10:13.120> because<00:10:13.361> the<00:10:13.457> way<00:10:13.682> I—<00:10:13.923> what<00:10:14.099> I<00:10:14.260> think<00:10:14.436> about<00:10:14.677> is<00:10:14.822> like<00:10:15.062> these<00:10:15.464> really<00:10:15.689> complicated<00:10:16.347> surgeries<00:10:17.775> and<00:10:17.872> AI<00:10:18.273> doing<00:10:18.578> those<00:10:18.819> instead<00:10:19.140> of<00:10:19.541> a<00:10:19.958> human<00:10:20.279> doing<00:10:20.584> those.

00:10:21.323 --> 00:10:23.538
But,<00:10:21.628> uh,<00:10:21.949> where<00:10:22.206> are<00:10:22.366> we<00:10:22.591> with<00:10:22.848> that<00:10:23.089> whole<00:10:23.313> thing?

00:10:24.052 --> 00:10:32.928
So<00:10:24.854> precision<00:10:25.336> medicine<00:10:26.058> is,<00:10:26.684> uh,<00:10:28.179> it's<00:10:29.129> to<00:10:29.290> bring<00:10:29.532> true<00:10:29.773> precision<00:10:30.256> medicine,<00:10:30.755> it<00:10:30.884> has<00:10:31.142> to<00:10:31.302> be<00:10:31.528> based<00:10:31.705> on<00:10:32.027> each<00:10:32.172> single<00:10:32.574> one<00:10:32.751> of<00:10:32.848> us.

00:10:33.138 --> 00:10:35.939
Each<00:10:33.250> of<00:10:33.379> us,<00:10:33.492> as<00:10:33.637> they<00:10:33.717> say,<00:10:33.943> is<00:10:34.442> an<00:10:34.667> N<00:10:34.828> of<00:10:35.070> 1,<00:10:35.794> right?

00:10:36.610 --> 00:10:45.542
So<00:10:36.707> if<00:10:36.951> God<00:10:37.211> forbid<00:10:39.389> everyone<00:10:39.747> in<00:10:39.893> one<00:10:40.137> building<00:10:40.527> had<00:10:41.178> lung<00:10:41.357> cancer,<00:10:42.850> no<00:10:43.027> two<00:10:43.269> cancers<00:10:43.849> are<00:10:43.930> molecularly<00:10:44.897> ever<00:10:45.139> the<00:10:45.219> same.

00:10:45.639 --> 00:11:00.740
So<00:10:46.445> our<00:10:46.654> co-founder<00:10:47.783> at<00:10:48.669> CureMatch,<00:10:49.427> so<00:10:49.637> we<00:10:49.733> have<00:10:49.814> CureMetrix<00:10:50.362> on<00:10:50.443> the<00:10:50.540> diagnostic<00:10:51.168> side<00:10:51.426> and<00:10:51.733> CureMatch,<00:10:52.872> is<00:10:53.900> the<00:10:53.996> company<00:10:54.318> specific<00:10:54.863> for<00:10:55.104> not<00:10:55.265> just<00:10:55.506> women's<00:10:55.843> health<00:10:56.084> and<00:10:56.164> breast<00:10:56.405> cancer<00:10:56.710> and<00:10:56.790> heart<00:10:56.951> disease,<00:10:57.288> but<00:10:57.448> for<00:10:58.155> any<00:10:58.267> man,<00:10:58.572> woman,<00:10:58.813> or<00:10:58.958> child<00:10:59.215> that<00:10:59.359> has<00:11:00.017> any<00:11:00.258> cancer.

00:11:01.222 --> 00:11:08.784
What<00:11:01.382> we<00:11:01.543> do<00:11:02.008> on<00:11:02.040> the<00:11:02.185> CureMatch<00:11:02.651> side<00:11:02.924> of<00:11:02.988> the<00:11:03.148> business<00:11:04.834> is<00:11:05.316> we<00:11:05.637> take<00:11:05.942> that,<00:11:06.761> what's<00:11:06.986> called<00:11:07.146> a<00:11:07.178> next-gen<00:11:07.869> sequencing<00:11:08.511> panel.

00:11:08.848 --> 00:11:09.812
It's<00:11:09.073> lab<00:11:09.555> work.

00:11:09.956 --> 00:11:16.314
I<00:11:10.165> say<00:11:10.550> it's<00:11:10.679> like<00:11:10.839> the<00:11:10.919> 23andMe<00:11:11.562> of<00:11:11.658> that<00:11:11.883> patient-specific<00:11:12.525> cancer,<00:11:13.906> and<00:11:14.147> it's<00:11:14.372> the<00:11:14.404> molecular<00:11:15.014> makeup<00:11:15.592> of<00:11:15.672> the<00:11:15.817> cancer.

00:11:16.475 --> 00:11:29.137
And<00:11:17.422> Dr.<00:11:17.743> Kurzrock,<00:11:18.370> amazing<00:11:18.786> oncologist,<00:11:19.587> if<00:11:19.683> you<00:11:20.164> look<00:11:20.308> her<00:11:20.469> up,<00:11:20.629> K-U-R-Z-R-O-C-K,<00:11:22.632> how<00:11:22.792> you<00:11:22.824> spell<00:11:23.113> her<00:11:23.209> name<00:11:23.449> for<00:11:23.545> your<00:11:23.753> listeners,<00:11:25.532> being<00:11:25.837> Canadian<00:11:26.253> by<00:11:26.494> birth,<00:11:26.958> she<00:11:27.118> always<00:11:27.311> said<00:11:28.000> cancer<00:11:28.272> is<00:11:28.400> like<00:11:28.513> a<00:11:28.577> snowflake.

00:11:29.618 --> 00:11:31.477
No<00:11:29.778> two<00:11:30.003> snowflakes<00:11:30.580> ever<00:11:30.820> look<00:11:30.980> the<00:11:31.076> same.

00:11:32.102 --> 00:11:40.130
So<00:11:32.262> why<00:11:32.422> should<00:11:32.743> this<00:11:32.903> treatment<00:11:33.304> be<00:11:33.448> the<00:11:33.480> same<00:11:33.704> for<00:11:33.945> this<00:11:34.105> patient,<00:11:34.425> this<00:11:34.586> patient,<00:11:34.890> this<00:11:35.066> patient,<00:11:35.371> just<00:11:35.547> 'cause<00:11:36.268> the<00:11:36.348> cancer<00:11:36.749> was<00:11:36.973> found<00:11:37.245> in<00:11:37.310> the<00:11:37.390> same<00:11:37.774> organ<00:11:38.351> of<00:11:38.495> the<00:11:38.575> body,<00:11:38.992> the<00:11:39.152> lung,<00:11:39.473> the<00:11:39.617> liver,<00:11:39.953> right?

00:11:40.338 --> 00:11:41.235
'Cause<00:11:40.514> no<00:11:40.675> two<00:11:40.819> are<00:11:40.899> the<00:11:40.979> same.

00:11:41.780 --> 00:11:48.849
So<00:11:42.021> what<00:11:42.261> we're<00:11:42.501> bringing<00:11:42.838> is<00:11:42.998> true<00:11:43.238> precision<00:11:43.719> medicine,<00:11:44.376> a<00:11:44.440> cure<00:11:44.761> match,<00:11:45.802> because<00:11:46.348> we<00:11:46.524> take<00:11:46.765> that<00:11:47.005> lab<00:11:47.326> work,<00:11:47.807> and<00:11:47.887> again,<00:11:48.112> we're<00:11:48.288> digital<00:11:48.689> health.

00:11:49.170 --> 00:11:49.972
We<00:11:49.266> don't<00:11:49.475> have<00:11:49.587> a<00:11:49.715> lab.

00:11:50.036 --> 00:11:51.495
We<00:11:50.116> don't<00:11:50.677> want<00:11:50.822> to<00:11:50.918> have<00:11:51.094> a<00:11:51.159> lab.

00:11:51.880 --> 00:12:07.275
There's<00:11:52.121> other<00:11:52.361> great<00:11:52.618> labs<00:11:52.922> that<00:11:53.099> take<00:11:53.339> that<00:11:53.644> cancer<00:11:53.901> biopsy,<00:11:54.622> blood<00:11:54.863> biopsy,<00:11:55.344> and<00:11:55.424> they'll<00:11:55.584> sequence<00:11:56.210> it,<00:11:57.092> um,<00:11:57.429> and<00:11:57.509> they'll<00:11:57.749> produce<00:11:59.177> literally<00:11:59.417> a<00:11:59.433> 30,<00:11:59.754> 31-page<00:12:00.540> PDF<00:12:01.021> that<00:12:01.534> says<00:12:01.822> this<00:12:02.063> is<00:12:02.143> the<00:12:02.207> molecular<00:12:02.801> makeup<00:12:03.137> of<00:12:03.346> this<00:12:03.586> person's<00:12:04.068> cancer<00:12:04.645> and<00:12:05.190> all<00:12:05.286> the<00:12:05.447> variants<00:12:05.928> and<00:12:06.072> the<00:12:06.152> complexities<00:12:06.874> of<00:12:07.034> it.

00:12:07.692 --> 00:12:14.346
Some<00:12:07.868> are<00:12:07.948> more<00:12:08.237> complex,<00:12:08.718> some<00:12:08.830> are<00:12:08.975> less,<00:12:10.017> and<00:12:10.097> the<00:12:10.193> more<00:12:10.402> complex<00:12:10.803> they<00:12:10.979> are,<00:12:11.380> the<00:12:11.476> more<00:12:12.166> combinations<00:12:13.946> there<00:12:14.106> are.

00:12:14.908 --> 00:12:19.526
And<00:12:14.988> so<00:12:15.132> for<00:12:15.228> a<00:12:15.292> 3-drug<00:12:15.854> combination,<00:12:16.431> for<00:12:16.575> example,<00:12:17.537> there's<00:12:17.874> 4.5<00:12:18.515> million<00:12:18.756> combinations.

00:12:19.622 --> 00:12:21.049
That's<00:12:19.878> beyond<00:12:20.183> human<00:12:20.520> cognition.

00:12:21.706 --> 00:12:26.549
I<00:12:21.722> don't<00:12:21.835> care<00:12:21.947> how<00:12:22.187> smart<00:12:22.444> anyone<00:12:22.765> is,<00:12:23.069> you<00:12:23.166> can't<00:12:23.406> process—<00:12:23.871> the<00:12:23.951> human<00:12:24.304> mind<00:12:24.593> cannot<00:12:24.769> process<00:12:25.250> 4.5<00:12:25.715> million<00:12:25.956> combinations.

00:12:27.078 --> 00:12:28.024
So<00:12:27.174> that's<00:12:27.399> where<00:12:27.559> we<00:12:27.655> come<00:12:27.880> in.

00:12:28.521 --> 00:12:46.723
We're<00:12:28.601> not<00:12:28.842> replacing<00:12:29.419> the<00:12:29.499> doctor,<00:12:30.606> we're<00:12:30.782> empowering<00:12:31.263> the<00:12:31.407> doctor,<00:12:32.145> and<00:12:32.305> we're<00:12:33.604> another<00:12:33.989> arrow<00:12:34.310> in<00:12:34.374> their<00:12:34.614> quiver<00:12:34.935> in<00:12:35.031> this<00:12:35.192> fight<00:12:35.368> against<00:12:35.737> cancer<00:12:36.025> to<00:12:36.234> deliver<00:12:36.555> better<00:12:36.795> care<00:12:37.597> and<00:12:37.693> select<00:12:38.142> the<00:12:38.302> optimal<00:12:38.703> combinations<00:12:41.118> earlier,<00:12:41.138> that'll<00:12:41.848> help<00:12:42.333> prolong<00:12:42.833> the<00:12:42.914> life<00:12:43.156> of<00:12:43.220> the<00:12:43.317> patient<00:12:44.592> and<00:12:44.947> save<00:12:45.254> their<00:12:45.416> life<00:12:45.819> in<00:12:45.980> many<00:12:46.303> cases.

00:12:47.742 --> 00:12:52.425
And<00:12:47.856> so<00:12:47.889> that's<00:12:48.232> where—<00:12:49.031> that<00:12:49.276> is<00:12:49.374> true<00:12:49.537> precision<00:12:49.929> medicine<00:12:50.435> based<00:12:50.745> on<00:12:51.169> individual<00:12:52.050> people.

00:12:53.763 --> 00:13:00.585
And<00:12:53.926> so<00:12:54.250> there's<00:12:54.559> a<00:12:54.656> lot<00:12:54.965> being<00:12:55.225> done<00:12:55.550> in<00:12:55.696> that<00:12:55.891> space,<00:12:57.824> and<00:12:58.213> it's<00:12:58.555> an<00:12:58.652> exciting<00:12:59.188> time<00:12:59.529> in<00:12:59.756> that<00:13:00.162> regard.

00:13:01.830 --> 00:13:07.537
And<00:13:02.010> one<00:13:02.255> can<00:13:02.354> say<00:13:02.583> precision<00:13:02.992> medicine<00:13:04.302> in<00:13:05.578> is,<00:13:05.722> you<00:13:05.819> know,<00:13:06.766> the<00:13:07.248> iWatch.

00:13:07.729 --> 00:13:10.218
I<00:13:08.034> like<00:13:08.131> to<00:13:08.291> talk<00:13:08.468> about<00:13:08.757> this<00:13:08.998> because<00:13:09.495> it's<00:13:09.656> personal<00:13:09.977> for<00:13:10.090> me.

00:13:10.298 --> 00:13:14.601
Someone<00:13:10.700> very<00:13:10.860> close<00:13:11.984> detected<00:13:12.450> a<00:13:12.932> high<00:13:13.172> resting<00:13:13.510> heartbeat<00:13:14.056> from<00:13:14.232> their<00:13:14.457> watch.

00:13:15.902 --> 00:13:30.594
And<00:13:16.159> because<00:13:16.400> of<00:13:16.480> that,<00:13:16.721> they<00:13:17.363> went<00:13:17.524> to<00:13:17.604> their<00:13:17.749> oncologist—<00:13:18.391> not<00:13:18.567> oncologist,<00:13:19.194> forgive<00:13:19.370> me—<00:13:19.531> their<00:13:20.478> primary<00:13:20.815> care<00:13:20.976> doctor<00:13:21.297> that<00:13:21.442> sent<00:13:21.602> them<00:13:21.650> to<00:13:21.763> cardiologist,<00:13:22.341> and<00:13:22.437> they<00:13:22.582> did<00:13:22.903> EKGs<00:13:23.047> and<00:13:23.304> stress<00:13:23.722> tests,<00:13:25.070> and<00:13:25.167> it<00:13:25.375> led<00:13:25.552> them<00:13:25.697> to<00:13:25.873> be<00:13:26.098> on<00:13:26.515> heart<00:13:26.756> disease<00:13:27.061> medication<00:13:27.720> that<00:13:28.507> has<00:13:28.908> potentially<00:13:29.470> added<00:13:29.647> decades<00:13:30.032> of<00:13:30.128> life<00:13:30.353> for<00:13:30.514> them.

00:13:31.108 --> 00:13:34.891
So<00:13:31.492> I<00:13:31.573> think<00:13:31.893> that<00:13:32.198> is<00:13:33.096> precision<00:13:33.657> medicine<00:13:34.041> to<00:13:34.170> a<00:13:34.202> degree,<00:13:34.603> right?

00:13:35.019 --> 00:13:47.701
Because<00:13:35.581> of<00:13:35.741> that<00:13:36.061> individual<00:13:36.943> person's<00:13:37.649> heartbeat<00:13:38.947> and<00:13:39.011> high<00:13:39.268> resting<00:13:39.653> heartbeat<00:13:40.214> when<00:13:40.310> they<00:13:40.390> were<00:13:40.470> just<00:13:40.583> sitting<00:13:40.791> down<00:13:41.096> reading<00:13:41.336> a<00:13:41.432> book<00:13:43.035> or<00:13:43.116> having<00:13:43.436> dinner,<00:13:44.719> that<00:13:45.023> but<00:13:45.200> for<00:13:45.344> wearing<00:13:45.584> that<00:13:45.761> watch,<00:13:46.723> they<00:13:46.867> didn't<00:13:47.108> feel<00:13:47.220> any<00:13:47.364> different.

00:13:47.845 --> 00:13:50.731
They<00:13:47.909> wouldn't<00:13:48.150> have<00:13:48.246> known<00:13:48.486> that<00:13:48.647> their<00:13:48.727> heartbeat<00:13:49.047> was<00:13:49.288> higher<00:13:49.528> than<00:13:49.689> it<00:13:49.721> should<00:13:50.009> be<00:13:50.154> just<00:13:50.314> sitting<00:13:50.490> down.

00:13:50.843 --> 00:13:53.168
So<00:13:51.436> I'll<00:13:52.478> hit<00:13:52.639> pause<00:13:53.055> there.

00:13:53.584 --> 00:13:54.627
Hopefully<00:13:53.937> that<00:13:54.097> does—.

00:13:54.979 --> 00:13:55.204
No.

00:13:55.845 --> 00:13:57.977
Yeah,<00:13:56.743> that's<00:13:57.063> super<00:13:57.384> incredible.

00:13:58.250 --> 00:13:59.949
You<00:13:58.346> said<00:13:58.522> something<00:13:58.891> really<00:13:59.148> interesting<00:13:59.693> there.

00:14:00.029 --> 00:14:01.007
Well,<00:14:00.174> you<00:14:00.206> said<00:14:00.366> a<00:14:00.430> couple<00:14:00.671> things.

00:14:01.777 --> 00:14:11.197
One,<00:14:02.195> like<00:14:02.596> we<00:14:02.676> have<00:14:02.901> all<00:14:02.997> these<00:14:03.222> devices<00:14:04.024> that<00:14:04.104> are<00:14:04.184> tracking<00:14:04.682> us,<00:14:04.923> like,<00:14:06.126> and<00:14:06.271> you<00:14:06.351> want<00:14:06.511> to<00:14:06.592> think<00:14:06.784> of<00:14:06.912> like<00:14:07.089> maybe<00:14:07.314> like<00:14:07.490> a<00:14:07.570> Tesla<00:14:07.972> being<00:14:08.212> that<00:14:08.437> obviously<00:14:08.758> the<00:14:08.918> Apple<00:14:09.175> Watch<00:14:09.496> does<00:14:09.977> the<00:14:10.058> Fitbit,<00:14:10.459> those<00:14:10.700> types<00:14:10.940> of<00:14:11.020> things.

00:14:11.325 --> 00:14:11.438
Sure.

00:14:11.743 --> 00:14:13.347
But<00:14:11.887> even<00:14:12.144> my<00:14:12.465> bed<00:14:12.770> tracks<00:14:13.187> me.

00:14:13.492 --> 00:14:15.241
I<00:14:13.572> have<00:14:13.732> like<00:14:13.973> that<00:14:14.150> Eight<00:14:14.390> Sleep<00:14:15.112> bed.

00:14:15.353 --> 00:14:21.034
Like<00:14:15.578> literally<00:14:15.915> everything<00:14:17.118> is<00:14:17.279> tracking<00:14:17.744> us<00:14:17.921> at<00:14:18.001> this<00:14:18.226> point<00:14:18.867> and<00:14:18.964> showing<00:14:19.269> you<00:14:19.349> like,<00:14:19.461> hey,<00:14:19.686> you<00:14:19.766> didn't<00:14:19.991> get<00:14:20.167> good<00:14:20.392> night's<00:14:20.584> sleep.

00:14:21.114 --> 00:14:22.109
Here's<00:14:21.290> what<00:14:21.451> you<00:14:21.531> need<00:14:21.644> to<00:14:21.692> do<00:14:21.756> to<00:14:21.836> change.

00:14:22.414 --> 00:14:23.425
Like<00:14:22.638> those<00:14:22.831> types<00:14:23.136> of<00:14:23.216> things.

00:14:23.473 --> 00:14:28.239
And<00:14:23.521> I<00:14:23.617> think<00:14:23.938> that<00:14:24.644> advancement<00:14:25.302> may<00:14:25.527> be<00:14:25.623> underrated<00:14:26.265> here<00:14:26.746> in<00:14:27.148> the<00:14:27.372> AI<00:14:27.693> discussion.

00:14:28.656 --> 00:14:30.902
Just<00:14:28.848> how<00:14:28.993> much<00:14:29.314> data<00:14:29.699> is<00:14:29.875> being<00:14:30.100> collected<00:14:30.517> on<00:14:30.822> us.

00:14:31.543 --> 00:14:33.308
You<00:14:31.880> are<00:14:32.025> so<00:14:32.217> spot<00:14:32.586> on<00:14:32.746> there,<00:14:32.907> Clint.

00:14:33.549 --> 00:14:37.575
And,<00:14:34.752> you<00:14:35.008> know,<00:14:35.473> sleep<00:14:35.955> is<00:14:36.003> so<00:14:36.292> important,<00:14:36.773> by<00:14:36.933> the<00:14:37.013> way.

00:14:37.960 --> 00:14:45.483
And<00:14:38.521> I'm<00:14:39.404> someone<00:14:39.805> that<00:14:40.446> I<00:14:40.526> feel<00:14:40.783> good<00:14:41.024> with<00:14:41.104> 6.5<00:14:41.665> hours<00:14:41.906> sleep,<00:14:42.227> but<00:14:43.093> I'm<00:14:43.735> trying<00:14:43.927> to—<00:14:43.991> and<00:14:44.473> I<00:14:44.793> track<00:14:45.098> my<00:14:45.275> sleep.

00:14:45.531 --> 00:14:47.135
I'm<00:14:45.740> trying<00:14:45.916> to<00:14:45.996> get<00:14:46.237> 7<00:14:46.558> hours,<00:14:46.975> right?

00:14:47.184 --> 00:14:48.274
I'm<00:14:47.232> trying<00:14:47.456> to<00:14:47.536> get<00:14:47.697> a<00:14:47.713> little<00:14:48.002> bit<00:14:48.162> more.

00:14:49.606 --> 00:14:54.274
And<00:14:51.049> in<00:14:51.194> that,<00:14:51.531> that<00:14:53.135> impacts<00:14:53.536> your<00:14:53.696> health,<00:14:54.097> right?

00:14:54.322 --> 00:14:57.544
And<00:14:54.482> if<00:14:54.643> you<00:14:54.675> don't<00:14:54.899> track<00:14:55.365> it,<00:14:56.967> You<00:14:57.047> don't<00:14:57.288> know.

00:14:58.009 --> 00:15:01.966
And<00:14:58.489> so<00:14:58.826> it<00:14:59.146> becomes—<00:14:59.771> there's,<00:15:00.268> you<00:15:00.300> know,<00:15:00.508> the<00:15:00.605> term<00:15:00.973> gamification,<00:15:01.774> right?

00:15:02.447 --> 00:15:15.250
It's<00:15:02.591> almost<00:15:02.832> gamification<00:15:03.793> to<00:15:04.033> be<00:15:04.194> tracking<00:15:04.754> and<00:15:05.059> watching<00:15:05.460> these<00:15:05.636> daily,<00:15:06.036> weekly,<00:15:06.741> monthly<00:15:07.078> trends,<00:15:08.103> whether<00:15:08.904> you're<00:15:09.001> taking<00:15:09.401> more<00:15:09.545> steps<00:15:10.042> or<00:15:10.106> you're<00:15:10.282> burning<00:15:10.587> more<00:15:10.747> calories<00:15:11.260> or<00:15:11.388> you're<00:15:11.484> getting<00:15:11.725> more<00:15:12.045> sleep<00:15:12.990> and<00:15:13.872> a<00:15:14.112> lower<00:15:14.352> heartbeat<00:15:14.785> at<00:15:14.929> night.

00:15:16.275 --> 00:15:28.897
And,<00:15:16.756> you<00:15:16.932> know,<00:15:17.237> this<00:15:17.493> is<00:15:17.717> all,<00:15:19.159> you<00:15:19.191> know,<00:15:19.720> our<00:15:20.121> bodies,<00:15:20.858> you<00:15:20.890> know,<00:15:21.002> it's<00:15:21.114> not<00:15:21.403> overnight,<00:15:22.220> you<00:15:22.284> know,<00:15:22.524> one<00:15:22.764> decision<00:15:23.502> eating<00:15:23.823> that<00:15:24.128> pepperoni<00:15:24.529> pizza<00:15:24.802> is<00:15:24.963> not<00:15:25.107> going<00:15:25.220> to,<00:15:25.589> you<00:15:25.669> know,<00:15:25.814> one<00:15:25.974> slice<00:15:26.231> isn't<00:15:26.392> going<00:15:26.504> to<00:15:26.617> kill<00:15:26.857> you,<00:15:27.676> but<00:15:27.981> it<00:15:28.142> adds<00:15:28.463> up,<00:15:28.640> right?

00:15:28.945 --> 00:15:36.283
And<00:15:29.443> going<00:15:29.748> on<00:15:29.924> that<00:15:30.310> one<00:15:30.631> run<00:15:30.968> or<00:15:31.514> going<00:15:31.626> to<00:15:31.690> the<00:15:31.835> gym<00:15:32.012> that<00:15:32.172> one<00:15:32.333> time<00:15:32.734> isn't<00:15:32.975> going<00:15:33.136> to<00:15:33.778> make<00:15:33.938> you<00:15:34.035> healthy<00:15:34.324> forever,<00:15:34.805> but<00:15:34.982> it's<00:15:35.159> a<00:15:35.223> culmination<00:15:35.865> of<00:15:36.010> things.

00:15:36.973 --> 00:15:43.043
And<00:15:37.069> so<00:15:37.230> to<00:15:37.375> be<00:15:37.535> able<00:15:37.712> to<00:15:37.856> track<00:15:38.274> it,<00:15:39.301> I<00:15:40.024> think<00:15:40.184> it's<00:15:40.345> going<00:15:40.586> to<00:15:40.923> help,<00:15:41.308> you<00:15:41.389> know,<00:15:41.485> prolong<00:15:42.031> lives<00:15:42.368> and<00:15:42.513> save<00:15:42.770> lives.

00:15:43.091 --> 00:15:58.200
And<00:15:43.588> it's<00:15:43.749> not<00:15:44.199> just<00:15:44.520> about,<00:15:45.885> uh,<00:15:46.141> and<00:15:46.286> you,<00:15:46.447> you<00:15:46.864> know,<00:15:47.025> we're<00:15:47.169> hearing<00:15:47.426> this<00:15:47.587> more<00:15:47.715> and<00:15:47.763> more,<00:15:47.972> it's<00:15:48.100> not<00:15:48.229> just<00:15:48.454> about<00:15:49.353> living<00:15:49.674> longer<00:15:50.220> chronologically,<00:15:51.986> but<00:15:52.323> having<00:15:53.271> your<00:15:55.695> chronological<00:15:56.402> age<00:15:56.594> and<00:15:56.723> your<00:15:57.124> biological<00:15:57.702> age,<00:15:58.023> right?

00:15:58.264 --> 00:16:06.871
So<00:15:58.987> you<00:15:59.067> could<00:15:59.228> be<00:15:59.308> 59<00:15:59.870> years<00:16:00.175> old,<00:16:01.636> but,<00:16:02.664> you<00:16:02.744> know,<00:16:02.840> and<00:16:03.065> doing<00:16:03.242> a<00:16:03.322> genomic<00:16:03.820> test,<00:16:04.045> they<00:16:04.125> could<00:16:04.269> say<00:16:04.687> you're—<00:16:05.008> it's<00:16:05.393> like<00:16:05.554> you're<00:16:05.650> a<00:16:05.795> 49-year-old,<00:16:06.614> right?

00:16:06.935 --> 00:16:07.657
Yeah.

00:16:07.882 --> 00:16:11.302
And,<00:16:08.203> and<00:16:08.300> so<00:16:08.926> I<00:16:08.942> don't<00:16:09.086> want<00:16:09.183> to<00:16:09.263> live<00:16:09.424> to<00:16:09.488> 100<00:16:10.146> and<00:16:10.371> be<00:16:10.531> in<00:16:10.708> nursing<00:16:11.093> home.

00:16:12.458 --> 00:16:21.984
I<00:16:12.474> want<00:16:12.619> to<00:16:12.715> live<00:16:13.117> as<00:16:13.341> long<00:16:13.518> as<00:16:13.598> possible<00:16:14.898> to<00:16:15.123> maybe,<00:16:15.988> you<00:16:16.036> know,<00:16:16.341> 98,<00:16:16.806> 99<00:16:17.271> years,<00:16:17.928> uh,<00:16:18.553> not<00:16:18.890> the<00:16:18.970> last<00:16:19.274> 10<00:16:19.435> years<00:16:19.691> being,<00:16:20.172> you<00:16:20.268> know,<00:16:20.717> uh,<00:16:21.294> low<00:16:21.519> quality.

00:16:22.561 --> 00:16:35.914
Uh,<00:16:22.753> so<00:16:22.881> I<00:16:23.122> do<00:16:23.378> think<00:16:24.099> we,<00:16:24.340> we're<00:16:24.725> at<00:16:24.885> that<00:16:24.981> point<00:16:25.462> with,<00:16:25.719> as<00:16:25.927> people<00:16:26.103> are<00:16:26.183> calling<00:16:26.440> it,<00:16:26.744> you<00:16:26.809> know,<00:16:27.065> wellness<00:16:27.546> science,<00:16:28.107> longevity<00:16:29.470> science,<00:16:29.950> and<00:16:30.031> there's<00:16:30.287> more<00:16:30.447> money<00:16:30.752> being<00:16:30.992> put<00:16:31.153> toward<00:16:31.393> it<00:16:31.553> by,<00:16:32.355> of<00:16:32.435> course,<00:16:32.836> billionaires<00:16:33.541> on<00:16:33.718> down<00:16:34.423> that<00:16:34.663> all<00:16:34.760> want<00:16:34.888> to<00:16:35.305> live<00:16:35.465> forever.

00:16:36.507 --> 00:16:46.400
Um,<00:16:37.068> so<00:16:37.469> I,<00:16:37.629> I<00:16:37.709> won't<00:16:37.805> go<00:16:38.030> down<00:16:38.430> the<00:16:38.511> rabbit<00:16:38.831> hole<00:16:39.024> of<00:16:39.248> living<00:16:39.488> forever,<00:16:39.985> but<00:16:40.594> I<00:16:40.691> do<00:16:41.140> think<00:16:41.412> that<00:16:41.717> the<00:16:41.877> person<00:16:42.134> that's<00:16:42.374> going<00:16:42.487> to<00:16:42.679> live<00:16:43.000> to<00:16:43.176> 150<00:16:44.138> years<00:16:44.443> old,<00:16:44.924> uh,<00:16:45.678> is<00:16:45.822> alive<00:16:46.127> right<00:16:46.239> now.

00:16:47.105 --> 00:16:47.442
Yeah.

00:16:47.907 --> 00:16:50.666
And,<00:16:48.148> and<00:16:48.292> I<00:16:48.372> do<00:16:48.549> think<00:16:48.709> that<00:16:48.870> we<00:16:49.030> can<00:16:49.254> all<00:16:49.992> live<00:16:50.233> longer.

00:16:50.874 --> 00:16:59.695
And,<00:16:51.115> and<00:16:51.259> now<00:16:51.436> we<00:16:51.580> do<00:16:51.676> have<00:16:51.820> a<00:16:51.917> blip<00:16:52.253> in<00:16:52.398> the<00:16:52.638> statistics<00:16:53.264> here<00:16:53.585> within<00:16:54.162> these<00:16:54.306> last<00:16:54.547> couple<00:16:54.723> of<00:16:54.803> COVID<00:16:55.188> years,<00:16:56.231> um,<00:16:56.648> as<00:16:56.872> the<00:16:57.273> average<00:16:57.915> lifespan<00:16:58.396> in<00:16:58.476> the<00:16:58.556> US<00:16:58.636> has<00:16:58.893> come<00:16:59.053> down<00:16:59.310> a<00:16:59.438> bit.

00:17:00.240 --> 00:17:02.293
Um,<00:17:00.978> but,<00:17:01.523> um,<00:17:02.100> why?

00:17:02.742 --> 00:17:04.602
Because<00:17:03.223> people<00:17:03.464> weren't<00:17:03.688> taking<00:17:04.009> care<00:17:04.185> of<00:17:04.265> themselves.

00:17:04.666 --> 00:17:07.329
They<00:17:04.811> weren't<00:17:04.987> going<00:17:05.308> in<00:17:05.388> for<00:17:05.532> that<00:17:05.709> mammogram<00:17:06.190> because<00:17:06.912> Guess<00:17:07.152> what?

00:17:07.393 --> 00:17:11.166
Mammography<00:17:07.955> wasn't<00:17:08.260> considered,<00:17:08.999> uh,<00:17:09.224> considered<00:17:09.641> an<00:17:09.737> essential<00:17:10.123> service<00:17:10.524> in<00:17:10.604> 2020.

00:17:11.825 --> 00:17:16.288
So<00:17:12.290> millions<00:17:12.788> of<00:17:12.916> women<00:17:13.735> didn't<00:17:13.976> get<00:17:14.137> it<00:17:14.233> in<00:17:14.313> 2020<00:17:14.843> and<00:17:14.939> delayed<00:17:15.277> it<00:17:15.405> until<00:17:15.662> 2021.

00:17:17.011 --> 00:17:21.490
And,<00:17:17.251> um,<00:17:18.054> those<00:17:18.231> that<00:17:18.359> had<00:17:18.456> cancer,<00:17:19.355> you<00:17:19.387> know,<00:17:19.579> they<00:17:19.660> were<00:17:20.398> farther<00:17:20.719> along<00:17:21.041> because<00:17:21.281> of<00:17:21.346> that.

00:17:22.325 --> 00:17:28.619
And<00:17:22.550> yeah,<00:17:22.710> the<00:17:22.742> side<00:17:23.112> effects<00:17:23.529> of<00:17:23.674> that,<00:17:24.396> um,<00:17:25.440> the<00:17:25.536> whole<00:17:25.777> pandemic<00:17:26.355> are<00:17:26.901> like,<00:17:27.126> I<00:17:27.142> don't<00:17:27.382> think<00:17:27.543> we<00:17:27.704> fully<00:17:28.025> understand.

00:17:29.630 --> 00:17:30.128
Not<00:17:29.871> even.

00:17:30.674 --> 00:17:30.850
Yeah.

00:17:30.915 --> 00:17:40.209
Just<00:17:31.236> kind<00:17:31.461> of<00:17:31.557> how,<00:17:32.183> uh,<00:17:32.922> kind<00:17:33.098> of<00:17:33.162> all<00:17:33.323> the,<00:17:33.885> you<00:17:33.965> know,<00:17:34.126> various<00:17:34.527> effects<00:17:34.928> that<00:17:35.570> we<00:17:35.731> weren't<00:17:35.972> even<00:17:36.293> thought<00:17:36.533> of<00:17:36.630> at<00:17:36.758> the<00:17:36.855> time<00:17:37.400> that<00:17:37.513> are<00:17:37.577> now<00:17:37.898> kind<00:17:38.139> of—<00:17:38.861> and<00:17:39.022> that's<00:17:39.262> a<00:17:39.343> great<00:17:39.664> example.

00:17:40.707 --> 00:17:42.906
People<00:17:41.092> had<00:17:41.189> to<00:17:41.333> put<00:17:41.574> that<00:17:41.831> off<00:17:42.072> for<00:17:42.152> an<00:17:42.232> entire<00:17:42.794> year.

00:17:43.099 --> 00:17:48.461
You<00:17:43.276> put<00:17:43.420> that<00:17:43.581> off<00:17:43.677> for<00:17:43.805> an<00:17:43.837> entire<00:17:44.223> year<00:17:44.399> and<00:17:44.479> that<00:17:44.560> could<00:17:44.801> be<00:17:45.427> the<00:17:45.507> difference<00:17:45.908> in<00:17:45.988> everything,<00:17:47.048> which<00:17:47.224> is,<00:17:47.433> which<00:17:47.610> is<00:17:47.770> really<00:17:48.075> crazy.

00:17:48.894 --> 00:17:53.308
The<00:17:48.990> second<00:17:49.279> thing<00:17:49.360> you<00:17:49.472> said<00:17:49.921> a<00:17:50.018> little<00:17:50.339> bit<00:17:50.483> earlier<00:17:50.740> is<00:17:50.901> you<00:17:50.981> said<00:17:51.302> like<00:17:51.543> the<00:17:51.767> AI<00:17:51.960> is<00:17:52.105> not<00:17:52.217> going<00:17:52.377> to<00:17:52.426> replace<00:17:52.891> the<00:17:52.987> doctor.

00:17:54.015 --> 00:17:56.214
Yeah,<00:17:54.577> it's<00:17:54.737> going<00:17:54.914> to<00:17:54.994> like<00:17:55.219> enhance<00:17:55.556> their<00:17:55.668> experience.

00:17:56.278 --> 00:18:09.013
And<00:17:56.519> this<00:17:56.696> is<00:17:56.824> kind<00:17:56.985> of<00:17:57.017> like<00:17:57.627> as<00:17:57.707> you<00:17:57.867> look<00:17:58.044> at<00:17:58.124> like<00:17:58.285> all<00:17:58.365> these<00:17:58.590> news<00:17:58.847> articles<00:17:59.248> about<00:17:59.569> AI<00:18:00.516> you<00:18:00.613> know,<00:18:00.773> AI<00:18:01.094> kind<00:18:01.255> of<00:18:01.335> being<00:18:01.480> like<00:18:01.657> the<00:18:01.817> buzzy<00:18:02.219> topic<00:18:02.701> over<00:18:02.845> the<00:18:02.941> past<00:18:03.263> few<00:18:03.423> months,<00:18:04.532> um,<00:18:04.949> the<00:18:05.094> concern<00:18:05.688> and<00:18:05.816> the<00:18:05.977> worry<00:18:06.314> of<00:18:06.395> many<00:18:06.716> people<00:18:06.973> is<00:18:07.037> like,<00:18:07.182> hey,<00:18:07.294> this<00:18:07.455> is<00:18:07.535> going<00:18:07.664> to<00:18:07.696> replace<00:18:08.178> a<00:18:08.242> lot<00:18:08.467> of<00:18:08.563> jobs.

00:18:10.073 --> 00:18:11.936
Um,<00:18:10.314> what<00:18:10.474> is<00:18:10.571> your,<00:18:11.197> uh,<00:18:11.438> take<00:18:11.679> on<00:18:11.775> that?

00:18:12.514 --> 00:18:18.810
So<00:18:13.928> I,<00:18:14.104> I<00:18:14.185> love<00:18:14.361> that<00:18:14.506> question,<00:18:15.052> and<00:18:15.309> I've,<00:18:16.192> needless<00:18:16.465> to<00:18:16.530> say,<00:18:17.156> you<00:18:17.188> know,<00:18:17.622> had<00:18:17.879> it<00:18:18.120> over<00:18:18.361> the<00:18:18.505> years.

00:18:19.469 --> 00:18:30.773
Um,<00:18:21.187> I'll<00:18:21.332> take<00:18:21.493> it<00:18:21.573> back<00:18:21.814> to,<00:18:21.958> you<00:18:21.990> know,<00:18:22.119> when<00:18:22.215> the<00:18:22.440> automobile<00:18:23.018> was<00:18:23.179> invented,<00:18:24.368> you<00:18:24.464> had<00:18:24.705> so<00:18:24.865> many<00:18:25.090> people<00:18:25.347> that<00:18:25.524> said,<00:18:26.134> you<00:18:26.183> know,<00:18:26.632> What's<00:18:26.793> this<00:18:26.937> going<00:18:27.033> to<00:18:27.178> do<00:18:27.354> to<00:18:27.499> all<00:18:27.611> the<00:18:27.820> people<00:18:28.077> taking<00:18:28.350> care<00:18:28.414> of<00:18:28.478> the<00:18:28.558> horses<00:18:29.104> and<00:18:29.200> the<00:18:29.361> buggies<00:18:29.923> and<00:18:30.003> the<00:18:30.147> horseshoes?

00:18:30.886 --> 00:18:32.427
And<00:18:31.351> they're<00:18:31.431> going<00:18:31.512> to<00:18:31.672> lose<00:18:31.849> their<00:18:32.074> jobs.

00:18:32.491 --> 00:18:33.422
And<00:18:32.635> guess<00:18:32.892> what<00:18:33.037> they<00:18:33.213> did?

00:18:34.256 --> 00:18:48.446
But<00:18:34.578> look<00:18:34.899> at<00:18:34.979> all<00:18:35.220> the<00:18:35.364> jobs<00:18:35.781> that<00:18:35.926> were<00:18:36.102> created<00:18:36.568> because<00:18:36.841> of<00:18:36.905> the<00:18:37.065> automobile<00:18:38.350> at<00:18:38.510> the<00:18:38.590> factories,<00:18:39.537> at<00:18:39.698> the<00:18:39.874> gas<00:18:40.115> stations,<00:18:40.677> at<00:18:40.838> the<00:18:41.062> oil<00:18:41.303> companies,<00:18:42.041> at<00:18:42.523> the<00:18:42.603> mechanics,<00:18:44.915> the—<00:18:45.396> you<00:18:45.653> name<00:18:45.829> it,<00:18:45.974> anything<00:18:46.295> that<00:18:46.536> goes<00:18:47.081> with<00:18:47.643> the<00:18:47.804> automobile.

00:18:49.906 --> 00:18:54.369
It's<00:18:50.532> created<00:18:52.234> tens<00:18:52.555> of<00:18:52.635> millions,<00:18:52.892> if<00:18:52.956> not<00:18:53.181> hundreds<00:18:53.454> of<00:18:53.518> millions<00:18:53.855> of<00:18:53.919> jobs.

00:18:54.866 --> 00:18:56.132
That<00:18:54.962> were<00:18:55.042> not<00:18:55.267> anticipated,<00:18:55.988> right?

00:18:56.180 --> 00:19:05.862
And<00:18:56.741> if<00:18:56.870> you<00:18:57.046> go<00:18:57.206> to<00:18:57.431> the,<00:18:57.751> you<00:18:57.799> know,<00:18:57.928> turn<00:18:58.104> of<00:18:58.168> the<00:18:58.248> century<00:18:58.793> and,<00:18:59.050> you<00:18:59.114> know,<00:18:59.210> the<00:18:59.354> 2000s,<00:19:00.092> I<00:19:00.156> mean,<00:19:00.733> there<00:19:00.877> was<00:19:01.037> no<00:19:01.278> Facebook<00:19:02.079> or<00:19:02.352> Twitter<00:19:02.817> or<00:19:02.977> Snapchat<00:19:03.794> or<00:19:04.884> Google<00:19:05.157> to<00:19:05.285> the<00:19:05.365> stage.

00:19:06.103 --> 00:19:11.328
Maybe<00:19:06.327> they<00:19:06.407> had<00:19:06.567> started<00:19:06.984> right<00:19:07.160> around<00:19:07.465> then,<00:19:07.705> but,<00:19:08.331> you<00:19:08.363> know,<00:19:08.651> all<00:19:08.731> these<00:19:08.908> tech<00:19:09.132> companies,<00:19:09.469> LinkedIn,<00:19:10.591> they<00:19:10.671> didn't<00:19:10.895> exist.

00:19:12.194 --> 00:19:13.732
And<00:19:12.338> look<00:19:12.498> at<00:19:12.578> all<00:19:12.659> the<00:19:12.755> jobs<00:19:13.155> they've<00:19:13.396> created.

00:19:13.861 --> 00:19:14.903
Zoom,<00:19:14.582> right?

00:19:14.999 --> 00:19:24.462
That,<00:19:15.384> you<00:19:15.896> know,<00:19:16.025> we're<00:19:16.201> not<00:19:16.425> on<00:19:16.522> Zoom<00:19:17.002> at<00:19:17.243> this<00:19:17.403> moment,<00:19:18.750> but<00:19:18.910> it's—<00:19:19.952> so<00:19:20.593> jobs<00:19:21.010> get<00:19:21.314> created<00:19:22.379> and<00:19:22.460> they're<00:19:22.688> higher-paying<00:19:23.437> jobs<00:19:23.843> in<00:19:23.925> many<00:19:24.169> cases.

00:19:24.511 --> 00:19:26.903
So<00:19:24.804> yes,<00:19:25.292> AI<00:19:25.617> will<00:19:25.861> replace<00:19:26.187> some<00:19:26.512> jobs.

00:19:27.840 --> 00:19:36.083
Maybe<00:19:28.033> we<00:19:28.195> won't<00:19:28.518> need<00:19:28.906> as<00:19:29.634> many,<00:19:31.493> you<00:19:31.541> know,<00:19:31.832> taxi<00:19:32.236> drivers<00:19:32.721> or<00:19:33.028> truck<00:19:33.222> drivers,<00:19:33.852> or<00:19:34.014> maybe<00:19:34.337> we<00:19:34.483> don't<00:19:34.693> need<00:19:34.838> as<00:19:34.984> many<00:19:35.550> lawyers.

00:19:36.212 --> 00:19:38.054
Not<00:19:36.600> to<00:19:36.681> get<00:19:36.988> a<00:19:37.069> lawyer<00:19:37.328> joke<00:19:37.651> in<00:19:37.700> there,<00:19:37.812> right?

00:19:38.457 --> 00:19:38.844
Yeah.

00:19:40.779 --> 00:19:44.874
But<00:19:41.101> the<00:19:41.262> ones<00:19:41.520> that<00:19:41.682> are<00:19:41.843> there<00:19:42.149> will<00:19:42.246> be<00:19:42.391> higher-paying<00:19:43.116> jobs<00:19:43.536> and<00:19:43.681> there<00:19:43.777> will<00:19:43.939> be<00:19:44.100> jobs<00:19:44.487> created.

00:19:45.535 --> 00:20:00.178
You<00:19:45.567> know,<00:19:45.631> to<00:19:45.776> stick<00:19:45.954> with<00:19:46.034> the<00:19:46.099> automobile<00:19:46.663> example,<00:19:47.420> you're<00:19:47.550> going<00:19:47.647> to<00:19:47.696> need<00:19:47.859> someone<00:19:48.119> with<00:19:48.201> a<00:19:48.331> PhD<00:19:48.901> in<00:19:49.063> AI<00:19:49.405> ethics<00:19:50.448> to<00:19:50.528> train<00:19:51.331> the<00:19:51.491> algorithms<00:19:52.310> and<00:19:52.872> the<00:19:53.514> Ford<00:19:53.755> Motor<00:19:54.076> Company<00:19:54.478> or<00:19:54.638> GM<00:19:55.120> or<00:19:55.200> Toyota<00:19:56.790> what<00:19:56.950> to<00:19:57.111> do<00:19:57.304> in<00:19:57.914> 10,001<00:19:58.733> different<00:19:59.118> scenarios,<00:19:59.841> right?

And<00:21:01.124> so<00:21:02.488> that's<00:21:02.889> just<00:21:03.130> one<00:21:03.354> example<00:21:03.996> of,<00:21:04.574> of<00:21:04.959> all<00:21:05.136> the<00:21:05.280> jobs<00:21:05.601> that<00:21:05.698> are<00:21:05.762> going<00:21:05.842> to<00:21:05.922> be<00:21:06.083> created,<00:21:07.367> um,<00:21:07.944> that<00:21:08.105> we<00:21:08.185> can't<00:21:08.410> even<00:21:08.570> imagine,<00:21:09.453> um,<00:21:09.854> and<00:21:10.416> The<00:21:10.657> lawyers<00:21:10.994> are<00:21:11.026> never<00:21:11.219> going<00:21:11.315> to<00:21:11.396> go<00:21:11.556> away,<00:21:11.717> by<00:21:11.877> the<00:21:12.038> way.

00:21:12.198 --> 00:21:17.674
Needless<00:21:12.552> to<00:21:12.616> say<00:21:13.804> that<00:21:14.029> they're<00:21:14.125> going<00:21:14.270> to<00:21:14.366> be<00:21:15.635> right<00:21:15.827> in<00:21:15.956> there<00:21:16.293> in<00:21:16.855> drafting<00:21:17.320> these<00:21:17.497> laws.

00:21:17.738 --> 00:21:24.562
And<00:21:18.139> the<00:21:18.300> law<00:21:18.460> is<00:21:18.605> always<00:21:18.862> behind<00:21:19.183> technology,<00:21:19.825> by<00:21:19.986> the<00:21:20.050> way,<00:21:20.211> whether<00:21:20.548> it's<00:21:20.805> in<00:21:20.933> healthcare<00:21:21.592> or<00:21:22.459> in<00:21:22.555> driverless<00:21:23.117> cars<00:21:23.518> or<00:21:23.663> cryptocurrency.

00:21:25.044 --> 00:21:35.159
So<00:21:25.140> the<00:21:25.349> law<00:21:25.509> is<00:21:25.750> always<00:21:26.087> going<00:21:26.200> to<00:21:26.248> be<00:21:26.473> catching<00:21:26.826> up<00:21:26.970> to<00:21:27.051> technology<00:21:27.773> because<00:21:28.817> first<00:21:29.042> the<00:21:29.074> technology<00:21:29.540> comes<00:21:29.845> out<00:21:30.021> and<00:21:30.102> then<00:21:30.262> there's<00:21:30.744> a<00:21:30.824> problem<00:21:31.290> that<00:21:31.386> needs<00:21:31.627> a<00:21:31.691> solution<00:21:32.205> and,<00:21:32.976> you<00:21:33.056> know,<00:21:33.233> guardrails<00:21:33.795> on<00:21:33.875> the<00:21:33.955> freeway,<00:21:34.678> so<00:21:34.838> to<00:21:34.919> speak.

00:21:36.026 --> 00:21:36.796
Yeah,<00:21:36.523> that—.

00:21:36.828 --> 00:21:36.988
The—.

00:21:36.988 --> 00:21:44.269
Yeah,<00:21:37.486> those<00:21:37.742> are<00:21:37.886> super<00:21:38.608> interesting,<00:21:39.089> complex<00:21:39.651> questions<00:21:40.837> that<00:21:40.950> are<00:21:41.094> going<00:21:41.190> to<00:21:41.334> be,<00:21:42.281> uh,<00:21:43.083> you<00:21:43.179> know,<00:21:43.403> how<00:21:43.500> do<00:21:43.564> you<00:21:43.724> answer<00:21:43.916> those?

00:21:44.382 --> 00:21:45.905
That's,<00:21:44.686> that's,<00:21:45.183> that's<00:21:45.424> wild.

00:21:46.531 --> 00:21:51.502
It's—<00:21:47.589> we—<00:21:47.814> I<00:21:47.830> mean,<00:21:47.990> we<00:21:48.150> live<00:21:48.455> on<00:21:48.776> truly,<00:21:49.498> you<00:21:49.530> know,<00:21:49.658> I<00:21:49.834> think<00:21:50.075> historic,<00:21:50.813> interesting<00:21:51.181> times.

00:21:51.582 --> 00:22:03.272
Not<00:21:51.839> that<00:21:52.881> any,<00:21:53.363> any<00:21:53.587> time<00:21:53.763> probably<00:21:54.100> isn't<00:21:54.309> interesting<00:21:54.806> that<00:21:55.191> people<00:21:55.367> are<00:21:55.512> living<00:21:55.768> in,<00:21:56.089> but,<00:21:56.795> um,<00:21:57.356> I,<00:21:57.693> I<00:21:57.837> do<00:21:58.013> think<00:21:58.238> in<00:21:58.334> the,<00:21:59.216> uh,<00:21:59.858> you<00:21:59.922> know,<00:22:00.018> to<00:22:00.114> get<00:22:00.259> philosophical<00:22:00.964> with<00:22:01.076> it,<00:22:01.205> in<00:22:01.686> the<00:22:01.782> history<00:22:02.166> of<00:22:02.263> human<00:22:02.647> evolution.

00:22:03.929 --> 00:22:17.050
And,<00:22:04.409> uh,<00:22:04.746> is<00:22:04.906> that,<00:22:05.146> you<00:22:05.242> know,<00:22:05.627> it's<00:22:06.332> looked<00:22:06.508> back<00:22:06.765> upon,<00:22:07.469> um,<00:22:08.431> this<00:22:08.895> century<00:22:09.536> and,<00:22:09.953> you<00:22:10.017> know,<00:22:10.193> this<00:22:10.898> 10<00:22:11.138> years<00:22:11.475> here,<00:22:11.715> the<00:22:11.795> 2020<00:22:12.436> to<00:22:12.516> 2030,<00:22:13.718> it's<00:22:13.862> going<00:22:13.942> to<00:22:13.974> be<00:22:14.118> historic,<00:22:14.984> um,<00:22:15.384> and<00:22:15.656> some<00:22:16.041> good<00:22:16.297> and<00:22:16.425> some<00:22:16.682> bad.

00:22:17.098 --> 00:22:20.783
At<00:22:17.323> the<00:22:17.387> end<00:22:17.499> of<00:22:17.627> the<00:22:17.723> day,<00:22:18.604> the<00:22:18.829> automobile<00:22:19.790> is<00:22:19.886> not<00:22:20.191> good<00:22:20.367> or<00:22:20.607> evil.

00:22:21.312 --> 00:22:24.853
Yeah,<00:22:21.488> so<00:22:21.729> many<00:22:21.969> people<00:22:22.209> have<00:22:22.369> lost<00:22:22.674> their<00:22:22.770> lives<00:22:23.090> because<00:22:23.347> of<00:22:23.427> an<00:22:23.555> automobile<00:22:24.116> accident,<00:22:24.628> right?

00:22:25.333 --> 00:22:32.864
But<00:22:25.638> there's<00:22:25.894> been—<00:22:26.134> and<00:22:26.295> there's,<00:22:27.240> you<00:22:27.272> could<00:22:27.416> say,<00:22:27.801> pollution<00:22:28.458> and<00:22:28.874> smog<00:22:29.499> and<00:22:29.659> this<00:22:29.900> and<00:22:29.980> so<00:22:30.092> many<00:22:30.300> bad<00:22:30.604> things,<00:22:30.861> but<00:22:30.941> there's<00:22:31.566> The<00:22:31.662> good<00:22:31.886> is<00:22:31.999> immeasurable,<00:22:32.624> right?

00:22:33.185 --> 00:22:36.150
And<00:22:33.409> AI<00:22:34.531> is,<00:22:34.884> it's<00:22:35.028> just<00:22:35.365> a<00:22:35.493> technology.

00:22:36.327 --> 00:22:37.497
It's<00:22:36.487> not<00:22:36.695> good<00:22:36.872> or<00:22:37.192> evil.

00:22:37.834 --> 00:22:42.258
It<00:22:37.994> will,<00:22:38.234> it<00:22:39.020> will<00:22:39.180> certainly,<00:22:39.821> there<00:22:39.982> will<00:22:40.142> be<00:22:40.238> bad<00:22:40.543> actors<00:22:40.879> that<00:22:41.039> will<00:22:41.184> use<00:22:41.360> it<00:22:41.424> for<00:22:41.520> bad<00:22:41.825> purposes.

00:22:43.043 --> 00:22:57.999
And<00:22:43.187> so<00:22:43.428> our<00:22:43.588> job<00:22:43.909> as<00:22:43.989> a<00:22:44.021> society<00:22:44.710> and<00:22:44.806> in<00:22:44.871> the<00:22:45.031> country,<00:22:45.993> uh,<00:22:46.089> and<00:22:46.233> I,<00:22:46.490> I<00:22:46.650> do<00:22:46.954> think<00:22:47.067> there's<00:22:47.227> a<00:22:47.291> national<00:22:47.612> security<00:22:48.077> component<00:22:48.477> of<00:22:48.574> this,<00:22:48.958> is<00:22:49.135> to<00:22:49.696> be<00:22:49.792> able<00:22:50.016> to<00:22:50.241> mitigate<00:22:50.722> and<00:22:50.802> stop<00:22:51.138> the<00:22:51.218> bad<00:22:51.523> actors,<00:22:52.645> um,<00:22:52.902> while<00:22:53.142> there<00:22:53.286> are<00:22:53.382> incredible<00:22:54.489> good<00:22:54.729> uses<00:22:55.066> of<00:22:55.146> the<00:22:55.226> technology,<00:22:56.252> uh,<00:22:56.653> to<00:22:57.069> improve<00:22:57.374> all<00:22:57.534> our<00:22:57.711> lives.

00:22:59.219 --> 00:23:00.728
You<00:22:59.379> also<00:22:59.540> have<00:22:59.652> an<00:22:59.861> AI<00:23:00.118> fund.

00:23:00.856 --> 00:23:06.570
So<00:23:01.081> what<00:23:01.177> do<00:23:01.305> you<00:23:01.466> look<00:23:01.707> for<00:23:02.349> in<00:23:02.509> a<00:23:02.830> company<00:23:03.248> or<00:23:03.408> startup,<00:23:04.757> uh,<00:23:05.479> when<00:23:05.639> you're<00:23:05.752> investing<00:23:06.297> in<00:23:06.442> them?

00:23:07.405 --> 00:23:08.914
Yeah,<00:23:07.598> no,<00:23:07.822> that's<00:23:08.143> a<00:23:08.448> good<00:23:08.609> question.

00:23:08.962 --> 00:23:17.742
And<00:23:09.090> that's,<00:23:09.412> that's<00:23:09.668> really<00:23:09.893> how,<00:23:10.214> you<00:23:10.262> know,<00:23:10.792> we<00:23:10.952> first<00:23:11.177> started<00:23:11.530> investing<00:23:12.076> in,<00:23:12.863> uh,<00:23:12.975> software<00:23:13.424> companies<00:23:13.922> and,<00:23:14.484> you<00:23:14.564> know,<00:23:14.885> then<00:23:15.832> companies<00:23:16.185> applying<00:23:16.490> some<00:23:16.715> AI<00:23:16.972> applications.

00:23:17.855 --> 00:23:27.214
And<00:23:18.400> being<00:23:18.577> based<00:23:18.882> here<00:23:19.059> in<00:23:19.139> San<00:23:19.444> Diego,<00:23:20.567> uh,<00:23:20.808> UC<00:23:21.001> San<00:23:21.226> Diego<00:23:21.531> in<00:23:21.563> our<00:23:21.707> backyard<00:23:22.124> is<00:23:22.205> really<00:23:22.413> one<00:23:22.526> of<00:23:22.590> the<00:23:22.734> epicenters,<00:23:23.216> one<00:23:23.312> of<00:23:23.377> the<00:23:23.473> birthplaces<00:23:23.954> of<00:23:24.115> artificial<00:23:24.564> intelligence,<00:23:25.303> you<00:23:25.335> know,<00:23:25.479> hearkening<00:23:25.881> back<00:23:26.170> the<00:23:26.202> beginning<00:23:26.523> of<00:23:26.603> the<00:23:26.684> university.

00:23:28.355 --> 00:23:29.993
And<00:23:28.772> so<00:23:29.013> we're<00:23:29.270> around<00:23:29.817> it,<00:23:29.897> right?

00:23:30.058 --> 00:23:31.022
It's<00:23:30.154> in<00:23:30.218> our<00:23:30.379> ecosystem.

00:23:32.291 --> 00:23:42.751
And<00:23:32.869> so<00:23:33.110> we<00:23:33.576> just<00:23:34.701> meet<00:23:34.958> really<00:23:35.279> brilliant,<00:23:35.665> smart<00:23:36.002> people<00:23:36.227> that<00:23:36.436> come<00:23:36.565> from<00:23:36.725> all<00:23:36.822> over<00:23:37.047> the<00:23:37.191> world<00:23:37.448> to<00:23:37.593> come<00:23:37.754> here<00:23:37.850> and<00:23:37.930> get<00:23:38.075> their<00:23:38.236> PhDs<00:23:38.894> and<00:23:38.959> their<00:23:39.055> master's<00:23:40.742> in<00:23:40.967> artificial<00:23:41.321> intelligence<00:23:41.851> and<00:23:41.931> the<00:23:42.011> data<00:23:42.204> sciences.

00:23:44.180 --> 00:23:48.920
And<00:23:44.518> so<00:23:45.000> we<00:23:45.096> started<00:23:45.482> investing<00:23:46.044> in<00:23:46.125> them<00:23:46.848> and<00:23:47.008> meeting<00:23:48.535> the<00:23:48.615> people.

00:23:49.017 --> 00:23:53.626
And<00:23:49.402> I<00:23:49.643> always<00:23:49.884> say<00:23:50.061> that,<00:23:51.411> you<00:23:51.443> know,<00:23:51.652> you<00:23:51.684> don't<00:23:51.893> have<00:23:52.085> to<00:23:52.230> be<00:23:52.375> a<00:23:52.632> a<00:23:52.792> data<00:23:53.032> scientist.

00:23:53.674 --> 00:24:04.610
You<00:23:53.754> don't<00:23:53.963> have<00:23:54.139> to<00:23:55.101> be<00:23:55.277> technical<00:23:55.983> to<00:23:56.240> understand<00:23:57.827> or<00:23:58.084> benefit<00:23:58.549> from<00:23:58.709> artificial<00:23:59.094> intelligence<00:23:59.607> in<00:23:59.671> your<00:23:59.912> career,<00:24:01.291> because<00:24:01.836> you<00:24:01.932> also<00:24:02.092> have<00:24:02.269> to<00:24:02.397> just—<00:24:03.055> there's<00:24:03.632> a<00:24:03.680> strategic<00:24:04.353> value.

00:24:04.658 --> 00:24:35.203
So<00:24:04.835> if<00:24:04.899> you're<00:24:05.123> a<00:24:05.604> real<00:24:05.765> estate<00:24:06.085> agent<00:24:06.727> or<00:24:06.759> an<00:24:06.839> accountant,<00:24:08.250> uh,<00:24:08.651> or<00:24:08.972> an<00:24:09.148> interior<00:24:09.565> designer<00:24:10.014> or<00:24:10.110> an<00:24:10.254> architect,<00:24:11.778> you<00:24:11.810> don't<00:24:12.066> need<00:24:12.275> to<00:24:12.499> be<00:24:12.612> an<00:24:12.900> AI<00:24:13.301> expert,<00:24:14.344> but<00:24:15.546> to<00:24:15.642> stay<00:24:16.043> ahead<00:24:16.268> of<00:24:16.348> the<00:24:16.428> competition,<00:24:17.631> uh,<00:24:18.032> or,<00:24:18.288> or<00:24:18.849> to<00:24:18.994> keep<00:24:19.234> pace<00:24:19.956> You<00:24:20.069> need<00:24:20.278> to<00:24:20.374> know<00:24:21.097> and<00:24:21.177> become<00:24:21.482> educated<00:24:21.980> on<00:24:22.125> how<00:24:22.527> AI<00:24:22.703> can<00:24:22.864> be<00:24:23.089> used<00:24:23.362> in<00:24:23.426> your<00:24:23.667> industry<00:24:24.712> to<00:24:25.290> again<00:24:25.579> help<00:24:25.820> make<00:24:25.997> a<00:24:26.077> detection,<00:24:26.881> a<00:24:27.025> prediction,<00:24:27.587> a<00:24:27.748> forecast,<00:24:28.471> detect<00:24:28.808> anomalies<00:24:29.355> that<00:24:29.451> don't<00:24:29.612> belong<00:24:29.949> in<00:24:30.078> datasets<00:24:31.540> that<00:24:31.636> are<00:24:31.941> gonna<00:24:32.102> bring<00:24:32.343> efficiencies<00:24:33.387> and<00:24:33.853> are<00:24:34.030> going<00:24:34.206> to<00:24:34.351> increase<00:24:34.737> revenues.

00:24:35.942 --> 00:24:38.126
And<00:24:36.263> so<00:24:36.359> that's<00:24:36.600> what<00:24:36.745> we<00:24:36.922> look<00:24:37.163> for<00:24:37.404> at<00:24:37.500> a<00:24:37.564> startup.

00:24:38.271 --> 00:24:56.629
We<00:24:38.849> look<00:24:39.074> at<00:24:39.251> whether<00:24:40.215> it's<00:24:40.858> in<00:24:41.002> healthcare<00:24:41.806> or<00:24:42.288> it's<00:24:43.171> a<00:24:43.348> sales<00:24:43.990> enablement<00:24:44.537> product<00:24:44.970> or<00:24:45.340> advertising<00:24:46.384> or<00:24:46.962> applying<00:24:47.363> to<00:24:47.507> the<00:24:47.667> financial<00:24:48.100> markets,<00:24:49.270> um,<00:24:49.783> or,<00:24:50.328> you<00:24:50.425> know,<00:24:50.569> industrial<00:24:51.114> automation<00:24:51.771> and<00:24:51.916> the<00:24:51.996> IoT<00:24:52.348> devices<00:24:53.054> that<00:24:53.294> need,<00:24:53.775> you<00:24:53.839> know,<00:24:54.080> maintenance<00:24:54.657> and<00:24:54.961> to<00:24:55.058> detect<00:24:55.522> something<00:24:55.779> before<00:24:55.971> it<00:24:56.083> breaks<00:24:56.340> down.

00:24:57.302 --> 00:25:02.191
Um,<00:24:58.488> we<00:24:58.648> look,<00:24:59.450> do,<00:24:59.787> do<00:24:59.947> they<00:25:00.091> have<00:25:00.348> domain<00:25:00.748> expertise<00:25:01.470> in<00:25:01.614> this<00:25:01.855> field?

00:25:02.977 --> 00:25:07.369
Um,<00:25:03.554> do—<00:25:03.939> and<00:25:04.019> then<00:25:04.740> is<00:25:05.061> there<00:25:05.397> enough<00:25:05.734> data<00:25:06.039> to<00:25:06.199> train<00:25:06.519> the<00:25:06.744> algorithms?

00:25:07.465 --> 00:25:08.603
How<00:25:07.642> do<00:25:07.722> you<00:25:07.882> get<00:25:08.058> that<00:25:08.283> data?

00:25:09.229 --> 00:25:18.701
Um,<00:25:09.485> and<00:25:09.565> then,<00:25:10.287> you<00:25:10.351> know,<00:25:10.527> do<00:25:10.671> they<00:25:10.832> have<00:25:11.104> the<00:25:11.248> technical<00:25:11.713> expertise,<00:25:12.435> the<00:25:13.077> AI<00:25:13.398> expertise,<00:25:13.896> the<00:25:14.041> data<00:25:14.217> science<00:25:14.555> expertise<00:25:15.182> to<00:25:15.824> then<00:25:16.451> take<00:25:16.644> advantage<00:25:17.190> and<00:25:17.335> unlock<00:25:17.753> value<00:25:18.058> from<00:25:18.219> that<00:25:18.395> data.

00:25:18.797 --> 00:25:30.624
And<00:25:19.295> it<00:25:19.359> doesn't<00:25:19.665> matter<00:25:20.565> if<00:25:20.725> they<00:25:20.886> don't,<00:25:22.429> if<00:25:22.573> they're<00:25:22.734> the<00:25:22.879> domain<00:25:23.280> expert,<00:25:23.859> we<00:25:24.003> could<00:25:24.180> then<00:25:24.421> bring<00:25:25.530> the<00:25:26.012> AI<00:25:26.349> component<00:25:26.912> and<00:25:26.992> the<00:25:27.056> expertise<00:25:27.699> from<00:25:28.197> our<00:25:28.358> team<00:25:28.663> and<00:25:28.840> our<00:25:28.904> bench<00:25:29.563> and<00:25:29.885> those<00:25:30.109> that<00:25:30.206> we<00:25:30.367> know.

00:26:36.699 --> 00:26:38.273
And<00:26:37.021> that's<00:26:37.342> where<00:26:37.518> the<00:26:37.599> company<00:26:37.904> came<00:26:38.081> from.

00:26:39.622 --> 00:26:56.326
And<00:26:39.751> so<00:26:39.928> we,<00:26:40.409> whether<00:26:40.715> we're<00:26:40.795> starting<00:26:41.293> a<00:26:41.357> company<00:26:41.999> like<00:26:42.176> that<00:26:42.353> and<00:26:42.481> putting<00:26:42.738> in<00:26:42.883> the<00:26:42.979> first<00:26:43.284> money,<00:26:44.746> or<00:26:44.987> we're<00:26:45.131> looking<00:26:45.388> at<00:26:45.469> an<00:26:45.565> existing<00:26:46.031> company<00:26:46.513> that<00:26:47.540> has<00:26:47.717> already<00:26:47.942> put<00:26:48.054> some<00:26:48.199> of<00:26:48.231> those<00:26:48.424> pieces<00:26:48.761> together,<00:26:49.227> and<00:26:49.323> we<00:26:49.484> look<00:26:49.644> to<00:26:49.789> see,<00:26:50.046> can<00:26:50.126> we<00:26:50.287> be<00:26:50.447> helpful,<00:26:51.893> or<00:26:52.471> are<00:26:52.616> we<00:26:52.696> just<00:26:52.873> money<00:26:54.382> to<00:26:54.928> help<00:26:55.266> fuel<00:26:55.507> them<00:26:55.667> to<00:26:55.748> go<00:26:55.908> faster?

00:26:57.273 --> 00:26:59.281
Why<00:26:57.514> did<00:26:57.595> you<00:26:57.739> choose<00:26:57.980> to<00:26:58.076> be<00:26:58.237> based<00:26:58.542> in<00:26:58.623> San<00:26:58.879> Diego?

00:27:00.790 --> 00:27:03.116
Uh,<00:27:01.110> there's<00:27:01.672> a<00:27:01.704> saying,<00:27:01.993> happy<00:27:02.314> wife,<00:27:02.555> happy<00:27:02.876> life.

00:27:03.213 --> 00:27:03.919
Yeah,<00:27:03.678> yeah.

00:27:04.079 --> 00:27:05.074
All<00:27:04.111> right,<00:27:04.400> that's<00:27:04.577> what<00:27:04.833> I<00:27:04.849> thought.

00:27:05.507 --> 00:27:07.722
Well,<00:27:05.620> it's<00:27:05.844> the<00:27:06.005> most<00:27:06.181> beautiful<00:27:06.647> city<00:27:06.968> in<00:27:07.048> the<00:27:07.144> world<00:27:07.545> too.

00:27:07.786 --> 00:27:08.813
It's<00:27:07.930> just<00:27:08.027> so<00:27:08.348> beautiful.

00:27:09.551 --> 00:27:10.658
Look,<00:27:10.113> I<00:27:10.193> love<00:27:10.370> it<00:27:10.498> here.

00:27:10.739 --> 00:27:11.589
It's<00:27:10.899> apples<00:27:11.236> and<00:27:11.316> oranges.

00:27:11.637 --> 00:27:16.371
I<00:27:11.717> love<00:27:11.942> the<00:27:12.022> mountains<00:27:12.777> and,<00:27:13.065> yeah,<00:27:13.338> and,<00:27:13.627> you<00:27:13.659> know,<00:27:13.723> getting<00:27:14.108> up<00:27:14.221> to<00:27:14.670> Montana<00:27:15.152> and<00:27:15.553> Utah<00:27:15.954> and<00:27:16.050> Idaho.

00:27:16.532 --> 00:27:21.201
And,<00:27:17.238> uh,<00:27:17.270> it's<00:27:17.655> great<00:27:17.815> to<00:27:17.960> visit<00:27:18.281> Florida<00:27:18.602> and<00:27:18.842> the<00:27:19.003> East<00:27:19.163> Coast,<00:27:19.725> you<00:27:19.805> know,<00:27:19.966> there's<00:27:20.222> beautiful<00:27:20.543> parts<00:27:20.848> all<00:27:21.009> over.

00:27:21.265 --> 00:27:30.410
But,<00:27:21.586> uh,<00:27:22.068> I<00:27:22.148> came<00:27:22.308> to<00:27:22.389> San<00:27:22.549> Diego<00:27:22.726> to<00:27:22.854> go<00:27:22.950> to<00:27:23.031> college,<00:27:23.528> and<00:27:23.993> then<00:27:24.138> I<00:27:24.154> met<00:27:24.395> my<00:27:24.555> wife<00:27:24.732> in<00:27:24.860> grad<00:27:25.117> school,<00:27:25.518> and<00:27:25.823> she<00:27:25.983> was<00:27:26.063> from<00:27:26.240> here,<00:27:26.481> and<00:27:27.186> Um,<00:27:27.523> and<00:27:27.619> so<00:27:27.764> we<00:27:27.844> ended<00:27:28.085> up<00:27:28.245> settling<00:27:28.646> down<00:27:28.870> here<00:27:29.047> and<00:27:29.544> the<00:27:29.672> rest<00:27:29.849> is<00:27:29.929> kind<00:27:30.105> of<00:27:30.153> history.

00:27:31.292 --> 00:27:38.669
Yeah,<00:27:31.516> you<00:27:31.549> know,<00:27:31.709> something<00:27:32.014> I've<00:27:32.094> been<00:27:32.238> thinking<00:27:32.399> about<00:27:32.880> as<00:27:33.040> it<00:27:33.120> pertains<00:27:33.457> to<00:27:33.681> AI<00:27:34.002> is<00:27:34.163> like<00:27:34.339> whether—<00:27:34.804> like<00:27:34.980> a<00:27:35.061> lot<00:27:35.221> of<00:27:35.285> people<00:27:35.462> are<00:27:35.622> now<00:27:35.798> saying<00:27:36.103> like,<00:27:36.247> hey,<00:27:36.408> this<00:27:36.584> is<00:27:36.664> going<00:27:36.777> to<00:27:36.889> be<00:27:37.049> as<00:27:37.306> big<00:27:37.530> if<00:27:37.627> not<00:27:37.851> bigger<00:27:38.092> than<00:27:38.252> the<00:27:38.348> internet.

00:27:39.310 --> 00:27:39.471
Yeah.

00:27:39.856 --> 00:27:44.539
And,<00:27:40.417> um,<00:27:40.898> you<00:27:40.930> know,<00:27:41.139> as<00:27:41.315> we<00:27:41.475> move<00:27:41.780> forward<00:27:42.261> here<00:27:42.582> as<00:27:42.694> a<00:27:42.758> society,<00:27:43.384> kind<00:27:43.544> of<00:27:43.705> what<00:27:43.881> comes<00:27:44.186> out<00:27:44.362> of<00:27:44.426> that?

00:27:44.603 --> 00:27:45.340
What<00:27:44.699> does<00:27:44.907> that<00:27:45.148> mean?

00:27:45.405 --> 00:27:49.542
What<00:27:45.581> type<00:27:45.805> of<00:27:45.950> opportunities<00:27:47.473> are,<00:27:47.954> uh,<00:27:48.195> created<00:27:48.692> inside<00:27:49.157> of<00:27:49.253> this?

00:27:50.296 --> 00:27:57.534
And<00:27:50.376> I<00:27:50.536> wonder<00:27:51.001> like,<00:27:51.338> you<00:27:51.402> know,<00:27:51.579> when<00:27:51.884> we<00:27:52.044> were<00:27:52.204> in<00:27:52.381> like<00:27:52.750> the<00:27:52.862> '90s,<00:27:54.387> the<00:27:54.612> big<00:27:54.789> companies<00:27:55.270> could<00:27:55.431> be<00:27:55.511> so<00:27:55.977> easily<00:27:56.475> disrupted,<00:27:57.342> right?

00:27:57.599 --> 00:28:03.122
Because<00:27:57.984> they<00:27:58.080> were<00:27:58.241> slow<00:27:59.060> and<00:27:59.285> bulky<00:27:59.830> and<00:27:59.911> like<00:28:00.087> they<00:28:00.392> didn't<00:28:00.730> believe<00:28:01.131> maybe<00:28:01.372> that<00:28:01.532> the<00:28:01.613> internet<00:28:01.934> or<00:28:02.078> whatever<00:28:02.319> it<00:28:02.416> is,<00:28:02.801> right?

00:28:03.363 --> 00:28:03.459
Yeah.

00:28:03.700 --> 00:28:05.739
And<00:28:03.780> it<00:28:03.845> seems<00:28:04.102> like<00:28:04.326> we're<00:28:04.583> not<00:28:04.824> in<00:28:04.888> that<00:28:05.065> position<00:28:05.627> today.

00:28:05.787 --> 00:28:09.641
It<00:28:05.964> seems<00:28:06.221> like<00:28:06.349> the<00:28:06.510> big<00:28:06.671> companies<00:28:07.168> are<00:28:07.313> very<00:28:07.698> aware<00:28:09.224> of<00:28:09.384> AI.

00:28:09.705 --> 00:28:11.247
So<00:28:09.866> how<00:28:09.962> do<00:28:10.107> you<00:28:10.203> think<00:28:10.460> of<00:28:10.524> that?

00:28:11.488 --> 00:28:13.832
That's,<00:28:11.873> so<00:28:12.130> that's<00:28:12.852> a<00:28:13.077> loaded<00:28:13.495> question.

00:28:13.880 --> 00:28:15.261
There's<00:28:14.089> so<00:28:14.201> much<00:28:14.314> to<00:28:14.779> get<00:28:14.940> into<00:28:15.165> there.

00:28:15.582 --> 00:28:25.053
I<00:28:15.598> mean,<00:28:16.321> some<00:28:16.561> examples<00:28:17.172> from<00:28:17.268> the<00:28:17.429> past,<00:28:18.392> I<00:28:18.488> mean,<00:28:19.034> you<00:28:19.130> know,<00:28:19.355> Microsoft<00:28:19.997> wouldn't<00:28:20.238> be<00:28:20.478> here<00:28:21.361> if<00:28:21.827> IBM<00:28:23.689> didn't<00:28:24.010> brush<00:28:24.331> them<00:28:24.475> off,<00:28:24.812> right?

00:28:25.117 --> 00:28:27.380
They're<00:28:25.374> the<00:28:25.599> operating<00:28:25.952> system<00:28:26.337> too,<00:28:26.498> I<00:28:26.578> think,<00:28:26.738> at<00:28:26.883> IBM.

00:28:28.247 --> 00:28:34.812
And<00:28:29.692> I<00:28:30.109> think—<00:28:30.976> I<00:28:30.992> don't<00:28:31.152> know<00:28:31.313> the<00:28:31.473> full<00:28:31.618> history,<00:28:32.035> but,<00:28:32.581> you<00:28:32.613> know,<00:28:32.693> Microsoft<00:28:33.143> may<00:28:33.175> not<00:28:33.383> be<00:28:33.480> here<00:28:33.640> if<00:28:33.865> IBM<00:28:34.202> took<00:28:34.379> advantage<00:28:34.700> of<00:28:34.764> it.

00:28:34.860 --> 00:28:35.566
Or<00:28:35.021> Xerox.

00:28:35.630 --> 00:28:46.497
Everyone<00:28:36.289> knows<00:28:36.594> that,<00:28:37.252> you<00:28:37.300> know,<00:28:37.364> Steve<00:28:37.653> Jobs<00:28:38.054> at<00:28:38.199> Apple<00:28:38.471> saw<00:28:38.921> that<00:28:39.659> first<00:28:39.980> Macintosh<00:28:40.638> or<00:28:41.505> kind<00:28:41.890> of<00:28:42.869> the<00:28:43.656> idea<00:28:43.993> of<00:28:44.218> it<00:28:44.539> at<00:28:44.860> Xerox<00:28:45.293> in<00:28:45.421> one<00:28:45.598> of<00:28:45.839> their<00:28:46.064> labs.

00:28:46.947 --> 00:28:49.693
But<00:28:47.043> Xerox<00:28:47.685> was,<00:28:47.991> no,<00:28:48.248> we're,<00:28:48.633> you<00:28:48.665> know,<00:28:48.890> that's<00:28:49.083> not<00:28:49.212> what<00:28:49.372> we<00:28:49.533> do.

00:28:49.774 --> 00:28:53.758
And,<00:28:50.561> um,<00:28:50.979> and<00:28:51.075> so<00:28:52.489> they,<00:28:52.665> they<00:28:52.826> went<00:28:52.987> by<00:28:53.147> the<00:28:53.228> wayside.

00:28:53.870 --> 00:28:56.617
You<00:28:53.934> know,<00:28:54.095> Blockbuster<00:28:54.834> and,<00:28:55.621> uh,<00:28:55.717> Netflix,<00:28:56.424> right?

00:28:56.665 --> 00:29:00.874
It<00:28:56.729> was<00:28:56.842> back<00:28:57.099> in<00:28:57.163> 2007<00:28:57.902> or<00:28:57.999> '08,<00:28:58.432> uh,<00:28:58.609> the<00:28:58.754> famous<00:28:59.171> earnings<00:28:59.557> call<00:28:59.798> with<00:28:59.894> the<00:28:59.974> CEO<00:29:00.280> of<00:29:00.360> Blockbuster.

00:29:00.938 --> 00:29:10.544
And<00:29:01.500> I<00:29:01.565> think<00:29:01.661> one<00:29:01.806> of<00:29:01.838> the<00:29:01.982> analysts<00:29:02.448> asked<00:29:02.689> him,<00:29:02.882> you<00:29:02.946> know,<00:29:03.091> what<00:29:03.171> do<00:29:03.251> you<00:29:03.412> think<00:29:03.589> of<00:29:03.910> competitors<00:29:04.472> like,<00:29:05.356> you<00:29:05.436> know,<00:29:05.982> uh,<00:29:06.239> what<00:29:06.384> is<00:29:06.480> it,<00:29:06.641> Redbox,<00:29:07.685> or<00:29:08.103> am<00:29:08.183> I<00:29:08.312> saying<00:29:08.488> yes,<00:29:09.436> or,<00:29:09.918> uh,<00:29:10.159> Netflix?

00:29:10.593 --> 00:29:11.797
And<00:29:11.203> he<00:29:11.283> scoffed.

00:29:11.862 --> 00:29:15.203
I<00:29:11.926> remember<00:29:12.167> listening<00:29:12.504> to<00:29:12.569> the<00:29:12.649> guy<00:29:12.826> literally<00:29:13.083> scoffed<00:29:13.645> and<00:29:13.789> said,<00:29:14.030> oh,<00:29:14.320> They're<00:29:14.496> not<00:29:14.592> competition.

00:29:15.315 --> 00:29:23.873
People<00:29:15.556> like<00:29:15.716> to<00:29:15.797> come<00:29:15.973> into<00:29:16.118> the<00:29:16.198> Blockbuster<00:29:16.840> store<00:29:17.242> and<00:29:17.338> an<00:29:17.499> experience,<00:29:18.526> and<00:29:19.008> they<00:29:19.072> like<00:29:19.169> to<00:29:19.313> come<00:29:19.426> in<00:29:19.474> with<00:29:19.634> their<00:29:19.811> boyfriend<00:29:20.228> and<00:29:20.373> girlfriend<00:29:20.951> or<00:29:21.095> spouse<00:29:21.657> and<00:29:22.219> pick<00:29:22.380> something<00:29:22.685> out<00:29:22.765> and<00:29:22.878> get<00:29:23.022> a<00:29:23.086> bag<00:29:23.279> of<00:29:23.343> popcorn.

00:29:24.548 --> 00:29:31.275
It<00:29:24.628> was,<00:29:25.495> and<00:29:26.234> you<00:29:26.298> know,<00:29:26.795> needless<00:29:27.068> to<00:29:27.197> say,<00:29:27.759> uh,<00:29:27.919> Netflix<00:29:28.321> got<00:29:28.546> the<00:29:28.626> last<00:29:28.883> laugh,<00:29:29.140> and<00:29:29.605> they<00:29:29.750> even<00:29:30.408> toyed<00:29:30.794> with<00:29:30.890> them,<00:29:31.034> I<00:29:31.195> think.

00:29:31.452 --> 00:29:42.839
And<00:29:31.612> Netflix<00:29:32.094> at<00:29:32.239> the<00:29:32.335> time<00:29:32.656> spent<00:29:33.042> the<00:29:33.122> last<00:29:33.379> few<00:29:33.539> pennies<00:29:33.780> they<00:29:33.925> had<00:29:34.101> to<00:29:34.246> fly<00:29:34.422> to<00:29:35.049> Blockbuster<00:29:35.530> headquarters,<00:29:36.108> and<00:29:36.911> the<00:29:37.007> Blockbuster<00:29:37.473> folks<00:29:37.778> did,<00:29:37.955> just<00:29:38.196> to,<00:29:38.661> you<00:29:38.709> know,<00:29:38.790> needle<00:29:39.159> them<00:29:39.400> and<00:29:40.549> And<00:29:40.955> so,<00:29:41.767> you<00:29:41.800> know,<00:29:42.092> the<00:29:42.157> rest<00:29:42.352> is<00:29:42.482> history.

00:29:43.375 --> 00:30:04.755
I<00:29:43.537> think<00:29:45.648> in<00:29:45.730> the<00:29:45.892> present<00:29:46.720> day,<00:29:47.272> you<00:29:47.516> have<00:29:47.711> these<00:29:48.003> huge<00:29:48.150> companies—<00:29:48.747> Google,<00:29:49.150> Amazon,<00:29:50.844> you<00:29:51.006> know,<00:29:51.893> you<00:29:51.974> could<00:29:52.119> say<00:29:52.361> Facebook<00:29:54.475> and<00:29:55.104> others—<00:29:56.960> and<00:29:57.283> there<00:29:57.460> is<00:29:57.590> a<00:29:57.622> consolidation<00:29:58.416> happening,<00:29:58.919> right,<00:29:59.243> that<00:29:59.567> they<00:29:59.729> end<00:29:59.891> up<00:30:00.053> buying<00:30:00.443> and<00:30:00.524> acquiring<00:30:01.204> smaller<00:30:01.577> companies<00:30:02.258> or<00:30:02.404> even<00:30:02.566> public<00:30:02.809> companies<00:30:03.133> that<00:30:03.231> are<00:30:03.296> smaller<00:30:03.685> and<00:30:04.106> they<00:30:04.252> roll<00:30:04.414> them<00:30:04.576> up.

00:30:05.387 --> 00:30:12.034
And<00:30:05.468> there's<00:30:05.662> even<00:30:05.954> a<00:30:06.035> concern<00:30:06.538> that<00:30:07.443> they're<00:30:08.246> hiring<00:30:09.514> PhD<00:30:10.011> students<00:30:10.477> before<00:30:10.718> they<00:30:10.814> finish<00:30:11.119> their<00:30:11.215> PhDs.

00:30:12.884 --> 00:30:17.956
And<00:30:13.318> so<00:30:13.623> the<00:30:13.783> problem<00:30:14.088> then<00:30:14.249> becomes,<00:30:14.650> well,<00:30:14.810> who's<00:30:15.067> going<00:30:15.212> to<00:30:15.244> be<00:30:15.388> the<00:30:15.468> PhD<00:30:15.950> that's<00:30:16.110> going<00:30:16.223> to<00:30:16.335> teach<00:30:16.656> future<00:30:16.977> students,<00:30:17.699> right?

00:30:18.598 --> 00:30:20.781
And<00:30:18.759> so<00:30:19.401> this<00:30:19.641> is,<00:30:20.027> this<00:30:20.203> is<00:30:20.299> a<00:30:20.364> challenge.

00:30:20.845 --> 00:30:25.981
They<00:30:20.925> throw,<00:30:21.006> you<00:30:21.166> know,<00:30:21.407> throw<00:30:21.567> so<00:30:21.712> much<00:30:21.904> money<00:30:22.145> at<00:30:22.290> someone,<00:30:22.691> and<00:30:22.771> they're<00:30:22.996> like,<00:30:23.172> forget<00:30:23.413> the<00:30:23.493> PhD,<00:30:24.119> I'm<00:30:24.697> gonna<00:30:24.858> go<00:30:25.018> work<00:30:25.195> at<00:30:25.259> Google,<00:30:25.740> right?

00:30:27.410 --> 00:30:33.734
And<00:30:27.731> so<00:30:29.352> I<00:30:29.512> think<00:30:29.833> there's<00:30:30.315> the<00:30:30.475> beauty<00:30:30.780> of<00:30:30.876> capitalism<00:30:31.759> is<00:30:32.241> that<00:30:32.626> the<00:30:32.722> pendulum<00:30:33.204> swings.

00:30:34.344 --> 00:30:37.073
So<00:30:34.488> right<00:30:34.649> now,<00:30:34.970> you<00:30:35.050> see<00:30:35.291> in<00:30:35.355> the<00:30:35.435> news,<00:30:36.013> and<00:30:36.318> are<00:30:36.398> we<00:30:36.495> in<00:30:36.575> a<00:30:36.655> recession?

00:30:37.121 --> 00:30:38.437
Are<00:30:37.442> we<00:30:37.538> going<00:30:37.699> to<00:30:37.779> be<00:30:37.940> in<00:30:38.084> one?

00:30:38.566 --> 00:30:39.561
How<00:30:38.822> bad<00:30:39.063> will<00:30:39.224> it<00:30:39.368> be?

00:30:39.930 --> 00:30:44.425
You<00:30:40.027> know,<00:30:40.572> all<00:30:40.653> this<00:30:40.829> talk,<00:30:41.632> you're<00:30:41.792> seeing<00:30:41.953> the<00:30:42.033> tech<00:30:42.274> companies,<00:30:43.157> you<00:30:43.221> know,<00:30:43.703> they're<00:30:43.799> doing<00:30:44.024> layoffs.

00:30:45.228 --> 00:30:49.594
And<00:30:45.726> those<00:30:45.966> people<00:30:46.111> that<00:30:46.191> are<00:30:46.303> getting<00:30:46.592> laid<00:30:46.833> off,<00:30:47.796> some<00:30:47.989> of<00:30:48.053> them<00:30:48.214> might<00:30:48.358> go<00:30:48.519> work<00:30:48.695> in<00:30:48.760> another<00:30:49.097> big<00:30:49.257> company.

00:30:50.140 --> 00:30:53.367
But<00:30:50.285> some<00:30:50.461> of<00:30:50.542> them<00:30:50.686> might<00:30:50.815> say,<00:30:50.943> you<00:30:51.023> know<00:30:51.168> what,<00:30:51.328> I<00:30:51.425> have<00:30:51.681> that<00:30:51.810> idea<00:30:52.452> to<00:30:52.532> go<00:30:52.645> start<00:30:52.934> a<00:30:52.950> company.

00:30:54.218 --> 00:30:59.419
And<00:30:54.491> I'm<00:30:54.635> gonna<00:30:54.796> go<00:30:54.940> do<00:30:55.037> that,<00:30:55.261> or<00:30:55.759> my<00:30:55.920> friend<00:30:56.144> had<00:30:56.257> started<00:30:56.658> a<00:30:56.722> company,<00:30:57.766> I'm<00:30:57.846> gonna<00:30:58.007> go<00:30:58.231> join<00:30:58.488> that<00:30:58.729> private<00:30:59.034> company.

00:30:59.853 --> 00:31:05.887
And<00:31:00.013> so<00:31:00.800> that<00:31:01.618> kind<00:31:01.779> of<00:31:01.843> like<00:31:02.019> the<00:31:02.164> burning<00:31:02.437> of<00:31:02.501> the<00:31:02.581> forest<00:31:03.287> creates<00:31:03.704> then<00:31:03.865> the<00:31:04.009> nutrients<00:31:04.587> for<00:31:04.812> the<00:31:04.892> new<00:31:05.069> forest<00:31:05.390> to<00:31:05.470> arise.

00:31:05.951 --> 00:31:22.258
And,<00:31:06.593> and,<00:31:07.139> um,<00:31:07.460> and<00:31:07.717> so<00:31:07.942> I<00:31:08.038> think<00:31:08.279> there's<00:31:08.664> always<00:31:08.905> going<00:31:09.001> to<00:31:09.065> be<00:31:09.161> that<00:31:09.402> innovation<00:31:10.044> and<00:31:10.124> that<00:31:10.221> pendulum<00:31:10.750> swinging,<00:31:11.954> um,<00:31:13.077> and<00:31:13.158> there<00:31:13.318> will<00:31:13.495> be<00:31:13.575> new<00:31:13.735> companies,<00:31:14.297> there<00:31:14.458> will<00:31:14.618> be,<00:31:15.405> uh,<00:31:15.982> in<00:31:16.287> the<00:31:16.384> big,<00:31:16.705> you<00:31:16.801> know,<00:31:17.106> Amazon<00:31:17.507> does<00:31:17.668> an<00:31:17.748> amazing<00:31:18.310> job<00:31:18.727> at<00:31:18.871> innovating<00:31:19.513> and<00:31:19.754> they,<00:31:20.396> they<00:31:20.621> operate<00:31:21.423> almost<00:31:21.584> like<00:31:21.760> a<00:31:21.824> startup.

00:31:22.322 --> 00:31:27.717
They<00:31:22.466> have<00:31:22.579> something<00:31:22.884> I<00:31:23.028> call,<00:31:23.606> uh,<00:31:23.991> no<00:31:24.168> team<00:31:24.473> within<00:31:24.794> Amazon<00:31:25.195> is<00:31:25.693> bigger<00:31:26.014> than<00:31:26.191> a<00:31:26.319> two-pizza<00:31:26.898> team,<00:31:27.139> I<00:31:27.219> think<00:31:27.380> they<00:31:27.460> call<00:31:27.685> it.

00:31:27.782 --> 00:31:30.063
So<00:31:28.007> you<00:31:28.103> could<00:31:28.248> feed<00:31:28.408> the<00:31:28.489> whole<00:31:28.665> team<00:31:28.906> with<00:31:29.067> two<00:31:29.228> boxes<00:31:29.646> of<00:31:29.710> pizza.

00:31:30.674 --> 00:31:41.697
And<00:31:30.819> they<00:31:31.060> really<00:31:31.381> run<00:31:31.638> Amazon<00:31:32.040> as<00:31:32.136> a<00:31:32.201> startup<00:31:32.602> in<00:31:32.683> that<00:31:32.908> way<00:31:33.663> to<00:31:33.904> maintain<00:31:34.354> that<00:31:34.466> competitive<00:31:35.350> advantage<00:31:36.523> and<00:31:36.619> not<00:31:36.844> become<00:31:37.198> a<00:31:37.407> big<00:31:37.825> bureaucracy<00:31:39.833> and<00:31:40.476> to<00:31:40.958> keep<00:31:41.183> that<00:31:41.344> edge.

00:31:42.870 --> 00:31:56.658
But,<00:31:43.192> you<00:31:43.240> know,<00:31:43.368> that<00:31:44.011> people<00:31:44.252> then<00:31:44.413> leave<00:31:44.638> Amazon<00:31:45.136> and<00:31:45.297> they<00:31:45.923> can<00:31:46.020> go<00:31:46.164> somewhere<00:31:46.486> else<00:31:46.662> and<00:31:47.064> they<00:31:47.209> could<00:31:47.305> bring<00:31:47.546> that<00:31:47.803> same<00:31:48.269> type<00:31:48.526> of<00:31:49.137> culture<00:31:49.474> and<00:31:49.619> notion<00:31:50.021> and<00:31:51.418> So<00:31:51.562> yeah,<00:31:51.963> I,<00:31:52.187> I<00:31:52.283> think<00:31:52.924> it's<00:31:53.068> a<00:31:53.149> challenge,<00:31:53.950> um,<00:31:54.847> but<00:31:55.552> the<00:31:55.648> pendulum<00:31:56.049> always<00:31:56.305> swings.

00:31:56.770 --> 00:32:00.744
And,<00:31:57.235> you<00:31:57.267> know,<00:31:57.555> we're<00:31:57.651> going<00:31:57.763> to<00:31:57.828> have<00:31:58.613> amazing<00:31:59.093> companies<00:31:59.654> built<00:31:59.911> in<00:31:59.991> a<00:32:00.135> downturn.

00:32:01.160 --> 00:32:03.356
Sometimes<00:32:01.497> I<00:32:01.561> say<00:32:01.641> the<00:32:01.737> best<00:32:01.914> companies<00:32:02.234> are<00:32:02.378> built<00:32:02.635> in<00:32:02.699> the<00:32:02.779> downturns.

00:32:03.420 --> 00:32:08.628
And,<00:32:04.205> um,<00:32:04.686> you<00:32:04.718> know,<00:32:04.862> the<00:32:04.942> next<00:32:05.663> Google,<00:32:06.368> Facebook,<00:32:06.929> Apple,<00:32:07.266> Amazons<00:32:07.762> are<00:32:07.971> being<00:32:08.147> built<00:32:08.403> right<00:32:08.483> now.

00:32:09.813 --> 00:32:19.158
The<00:32:09.974> one<00:32:10.134> that<00:32:10.390> I<00:32:10.535> think<00:32:10.711> is<00:32:10.855> particularly<00:32:11.432> interesting<00:32:11.977> for<00:32:12.473> your<00:32:12.714> industry<00:32:13.659> and<00:32:14.076> medical<00:32:14.637> tech<00:32:15.053> and<00:32:15.422> AI<00:32:16.880> medicine,<00:32:17.345> all<00:32:17.441> that<00:32:17.601> type<00:32:17.890> stuff<00:32:18.708> is<00:32:18.869> Apple.

00:32:20.571 --> 00:32:30.863
It<00:32:20.651> seems<00:32:20.892> like<00:32:21.117> Apple<00:32:21.438> has,<00:32:21.839> like,<00:32:22.257> with<00:32:22.498> the<00:32:22.658> watch<00:32:23.060> and<00:32:23.140> kind<00:32:23.317> of<00:32:23.445> all<00:32:23.541> their<00:32:23.766> various,<00:32:24.248> like,<00:32:24.489> Apple<00:32:24.810> Fitness,<00:32:25.211> Apple<00:32:25.468> Health,<00:32:25.950> all<00:32:26.094> these,<00:32:26.817> these<00:32:26.994> various<00:32:27.299> things,<00:32:27.893> it<00:32:27.957> seems<00:32:28.182> like<00:32:28.342> they're<00:32:28.503> going<00:32:28.583> to<00:32:28.680> be<00:32:28.840> a<00:32:28.856> major<00:32:29.466> player<00:32:29.884> in<00:32:30.028> this,<00:32:30.285> right?

00:32:31.313 --> 00:32:32.148
They,<00:32:31.586> they<00:32:31.875> are.

00:32:32.517 --> 00:32:36.162
And<00:32:32.918> I<00:32:32.935> mean,<00:32:33.159> look,<00:32:33.561> healthcare<00:32:33.978> is<00:32:34.139> 20%<00:32:34.396> of<00:32:34.701> the<00:32:34.845> U.S.<00:32:35.182> economy,<00:32:35.985> right?

00:32:36.226 --> 00:32:52.076
And<00:32:36.387> so<00:32:37.173> you<00:32:37.270> have<00:32:37.575> all<00:32:37.735> the<00:32:37.832> tech<00:32:38.073> companies<00:32:38.635> looking<00:32:38.875> to<00:32:39.036> get<00:32:39.213> a<00:32:39.341> piece<00:32:39.518> of<00:32:39.582> that<00:32:39.759> pie,<00:32:40.465> uh,<00:32:40.722> from<00:32:41.589> Apple<00:32:42.007> to<00:32:42.247> Amazon<00:32:43.692> Yeah,<00:32:43.997> Amazon,<00:32:44.878> and<00:32:45.600> they're,<00:32:45.920> they're<00:32:46.882> ending<00:32:47.123> up,<00:32:47.299> you<00:32:47.363> know,<00:32:47.459> with<00:32:47.860> COVID<00:32:48.325> you<00:32:48.533> know,<00:32:48.742> for<00:32:48.902> better<00:32:49.062> or<00:32:49.206> for<00:32:49.463> worse,<00:32:49.768> sped<00:32:50.008> up<00:32:50.184> digital<00:32:50.505> health<00:32:50.810> by<00:32:50.970> 3,<00:32:51.162> if<00:32:51.290> not<00:32:51.531> 5<00:32:51.771> years.

00:32:52.493 --> 00:32:55.490
Because<00:32:53.070> now,<00:32:53.695> like,<00:32:53.855> people<00:32:54.096> see<00:32:54.336> that<00:32:54.432> telehealth<00:32:55.074> works.

00:32:55.619 --> 00:32:56.933
You<00:32:55.651> don't<00:32:55.907> need<00:32:56.035> to<00:32:56.116> go<00:32:56.276> to<00:32:56.356> your<00:32:56.516> doctor.

00:32:57.462 --> 00:33:01.534
You<00:32:57.558> could<00:32:57.719> see<00:32:57.959> them<00:32:58.119> from<00:32:58.264> your<00:32:58.424> laptop,<00:32:59.306> just<00:32:59.418> like<00:32:59.562> you<00:32:59.706> and<00:32:59.787> I<00:32:59.867> are<00:32:59.963> doing<00:33:00.187> right<00:33:00.300> now,<00:33:00.508> for<00:33:00.684> a<00:33:00.764> lot<00:33:00.941> of<00:33:01.005> procedures.

00:33:01.582 --> 00:33:04.692
And,<00:33:02.127> and<00:33:02.271> so<00:33:02.528> now<00:33:02.848> there's<00:33:03.025> efficiencies<00:33:03.714> that<00:33:03.794> come<00:33:04.211> with<00:33:04.435> that.

00:33:05.397 --> 00:33:14.654
Um,<00:33:05.654> and<00:33:05.974> people<00:33:06.279> might<00:33:06.455> be<00:33:06.615> prone<00:33:06.936> to<00:33:07.401> get<00:33:07.513> a<00:33:07.657> diagnosis<00:33:08.283> for,<00:33:08.395> let's<00:33:08.539> say,<00:33:08.635> sleep<00:33:09.084> apnea<00:33:09.966> because<00:33:10.207> they<00:33:10.303> could<00:33:10.544> do<00:33:10.721> it<00:33:10.849> at<00:33:10.946> home<00:33:11.267> instead<00:33:11.443> of<00:33:11.507> going<00:33:11.748> into<00:33:11.909> a<00:33:11.925> center,<00:33:12.407> and<00:33:12.712> they're<00:33:12.792> going<00:33:12.856> to<00:33:12.953> end<00:33:13.097> up<00:33:13.193> living<00:33:13.418> longer<00:33:13.836> because<00:33:14.157> of<00:33:14.221> that,<00:33:14.462> right?

00:33:14.719 --> 00:33:16.629
And<00:33:15.136> so<00:33:15.265> there's<00:33:15.441> all<00:33:15.586> these<00:33:16.148> offshoots.

00:33:16.710 --> 00:33:24.962
But<00:33:17.352> yeah,<00:33:17.673> absolutely,<00:33:18.476> Apple,<00:33:19.279> Amazon,<00:33:20.017> they're<00:33:20.322> all<00:33:20.418> spending<00:33:20.740> a<00:33:20.804> ton<00:33:21.205> of<00:33:21.237> money,<00:33:22.249> um,<00:33:22.731> you<00:33:22.971> know,<00:33:23.469> hiring<00:33:23.870> doctors,<00:33:24.754> right?

00:33:25.219 --> 00:33:27.772
Uh,<00:33:25.781> bringing<00:33:26.183> in<00:33:26.279> insurance<00:33:26.841> industry<00:33:27.242> experts.

00:33:28.190 --> 00:33:36.892
Um,<00:33:28.446> you<00:33:28.527> have<00:33:29.249> companies<00:33:29.586> like<00:33:29.747> CVS,<00:33:30.919> your<00:33:31.080> traditional,<00:33:32.364> you<00:33:32.444> know,<00:33:32.541> pharma<00:33:32.942> retailer,<00:33:33.568> that,<00:33:33.809> you<00:33:33.841> know,<00:33:34.050> they,<00:33:34.628> they—<00:33:34.708> a<00:33:35.334> couple<00:33:35.511> years<00:33:35.688> ago<00:33:35.848> they<00:33:35.993> bought<00:33:36.298> Aetna,<00:33:36.715> right?

00:33:36.940 --> 00:33:53.577
So<00:33:36.972> now<00:33:37.197> they're<00:33:37.277> an<00:33:37.357> insurance<00:33:37.823> company,<00:33:38.305> and<00:33:38.722> And,<00:33:39.124> and,<00:33:39.525> and<00:33:39.702> so<00:33:40.248> we're<00:33:40.489> gonna<00:33:40.810> go<00:33:41.051> toward<00:33:41.372> this<00:33:41.613> value-based<00:33:42.400> care<00:33:42.593> system,<00:33:44.166> um,<00:33:44.664> where<00:33:44.969> it's—<00:33:45.371> you<00:33:45.403> don't<00:33:45.547> get<00:33:45.788> paid,<00:33:46.029> a<00:33:46.109> doctor<00:33:46.431> doesn't<00:33:46.656> get<00:33:46.752> paid<00:33:46.977> fee-for-service,<00:33:47.715> but<00:33:47.876> it's<00:33:48.101> delivering<00:33:48.663> value<00:33:49.161> and<00:33:49.305> helping<00:33:49.562> someone<00:33:50.285> improve<00:33:50.622> an<00:33:50.831> ailment<00:33:51.168> or<00:33:51.265> symptom<00:33:51.730> or<00:33:52.453> have<00:33:52.614> a<00:33:52.694> positive<00:33:53.111> result.

00:33:54.284 --> 00:33:57.512
Um,<00:33:55.006> and,<00:33:55.247> and<00:33:55.665> that's<00:33:56.211> going<00:33:56.307> to<00:33:56.387> need<00:33:56.612> a<00:33:56.628> lot<00:33:56.805> of<00:33:56.869> technology.

00:33:57.592 --> 00:34:05.316
And<00:33:57.688> so,<00:33:58.620> um,<00:33:59.182> all,<00:33:59.503> all<00:33:59.599> these<00:33:59.824> companies<00:34:00.242> are,<00:34:00.563> are<00:34:00.788> looking<00:34:01.045> to,<00:34:01.848> you<00:34:01.912> know,<00:34:03.052> you<00:34:03.116> know,<00:34:03.437> crack<00:34:03.791> and<00:34:03.935> chip<00:34:04.176> the<00:34:04.256> system,<00:34:04.803> you<00:34:04.835> know,<00:34:05.043> get<00:34:05.204> in.

00:34:05.365 --> 00:34:09.042
The<00:34:05.397> healthcare<00:34:05.686> system<00:34:05.927> is<00:34:06.007> very<00:34:06.248> regulated,<00:34:06.762> and<00:34:06.826> we<00:34:06.890> have<00:34:07.003> incredible<00:34:07.436> infrastructure<00:34:08.191> and<00:34:08.352> good<00:34:08.512> and<00:34:08.593> bad<00:34:08.833> ways.

00:34:09.861 --> 00:34:11.050
Um,<00:34:10.439> but<00:34:10.536> it's<00:34:10.729> happening.

00:34:11.162 --> 00:34:12.977
I<00:34:11.178> mean,<00:34:11.467> Oracle<00:34:11.805> bought<00:34:12.046> Cerner,<00:34:12.768> right?

00:34:13.234 --> 00:34:16.944
Um,<00:34:14.133> uh,<00:34:14.631> and,<00:34:15.097> and,<00:34:15.482> uh,<00:34:15.595> is<00:34:15.820> getting<00:34:15.996> into<00:34:16.205> healthcare<00:34:16.542> that<00:34:16.848> way.

00:34:17.024 --> 00:34:21.489
And<00:34:17.651> they<00:34:17.731> want<00:34:17.843> to,<00:34:17.908> of<00:34:17.988> course,<00:34:18.229> bring<00:34:18.389> them<00:34:18.550> their<00:34:18.775> Oracle<00:34:19.112> Cloud<00:34:19.514> to<00:34:19.594> compete<00:34:19.835> with<00:34:19.995> Amazon's<00:34:20.477> cloud<00:34:20.718> and<00:34:20.879> Microsoft's.

00:34:21.762 --> 00:34:33.583
Um,<00:34:22.629> uh,<00:34:22.806> but,<00:34:23.272> um,<00:34:24.412> I,<00:34:24.573> I<00:34:24.733> think<00:34:25.054> that,<00:34:26.323> uh,<00:34:27.383> the<00:34:27.945> delicate<00:34:28.507> balance<00:34:28.909> we'll<00:34:29.054> have<00:34:29.166> to<00:34:29.294> strike<00:34:29.792> with<00:34:30.017> ourselves<00:34:30.515> as<00:34:30.611> individuals<00:34:31.318> is,<00:34:32.185> um,<00:34:32.587> our<00:34:32.683> privacy,<00:34:33.406> right?

00:34:33.631 --> 00:34:37.015
How<00:34:33.727> much<00:34:33.888> information<00:34:35.396> do<00:34:35.493> you<00:34:35.637> want<00:34:35.957> Apple<00:34:36.214> to<00:34:36.358> have<00:34:36.615> on<00:34:36.839> you?

00:34:37.496 --> 00:34:39.820
And<00:34:37.576> then<00:34:38.057> what<00:34:38.201> if<00:34:38.362> Apple<00:34:38.618> owns<00:34:38.795> an<00:34:38.939> insurance<00:34:39.484> company?

00:34:40.045 --> 00:34:44.148
Will<00:34:40.141> they<00:34:40.301> be<00:34:40.397> able<00:34:40.542> to<00:34:40.686> use<00:34:40.862> that<00:34:41.247> to<00:34:41.423> charge<00:34:41.744> you<00:34:41.840> more<00:34:42.064> or<00:34:42.289> less<00:34:42.625> for<00:34:42.786> your<00:34:42.930> health<00:34:43.122> insurance,<00:34:43.828> right?

00:34:44.292 --> 00:34:51.297
Um,<00:34:44.869> to<00:34:44.950> say,<00:34:45.671> you<00:34:45.767> know,<00:34:45.975> you<00:34:46.072> slept<00:34:47.049> 6.5<00:34:47.658> hours<00:34:47.851> instead<00:34:48.155> of<00:34:48.300> 8<00:34:48.460> hours,<00:34:48.861> we're<00:34:48.941> gonna,<00:34:49.582> you<00:34:49.614> know,<00:34:49.742> charge<00:34:49.999> you<00:34:50.079> more<00:34:50.624> for<00:34:50.704> your<00:34:50.800> insurance.

00:34:51.361 --> 00:34:54.182
And,<00:34:52.066> um,<00:34:52.563> and<00:34:52.868> so,<00:34:53.365> you<00:34:53.525> know,<00:34:53.846> it's—.

00:34:54.407 --> 00:34:59.247
Yeah,<00:34:54.647> we're<00:34:54.968> gonna<00:34:55.368> get<00:34:55.432> into<00:34:55.849> a<00:34:56.074> lot<00:34:56.474> of<00:34:56.731> weird<00:34:57.676> ethical<00:34:58.093> questions<00:34:58.734> for<00:34:58.879> sure.

00:34:59.680 --> 00:35:05.696
Like,<00:34:59.856> even<00:35:00.097> like<00:35:00.401> Amazon<00:35:00.882> getting<00:35:01.139> in<00:35:01.219> the<00:35:01.363> prescription<00:35:01.924> drug<00:35:02.261> business<00:35:03.047> Amazon<00:35:03.545> knows<00:35:03.866> everything<00:35:04.331> there<00:35:04.428> is<00:35:04.588> to<00:35:04.636> know<00:35:04.893> about<00:35:05.086> me,<00:35:05.455> right?

00:35:05.777 --> 00:35:13.677
Like,<00:35:06.579> and,<00:35:07.061> uh,<00:35:07.382> you<00:35:07.414> know,<00:35:07.784> if<00:35:07.880> I<00:35:07.960> start<00:35:08.201> getting<00:35:08.362> my<00:35:08.522> prescription<00:35:09.084> drugs<00:35:09.470> from<00:35:09.646> them,<00:35:10.048> now<00:35:10.289> they<00:35:10.385> know<00:35:11.172> all<00:35:11.204> my<00:35:11.477> health<00:35:11.734> stuff<00:35:12.200> too,<00:35:12.441> like<00:35:12.858> ailments,<00:35:13.324> things<00:35:13.484> like<00:35:13.581> that.

00:35:14.207 --> 00:35:15.716
That,<00:35:14.367> that's,<00:35:14.689> that's<00:35:14.946> kind<00:35:15.042> of<00:35:15.170> crazy.

00:35:17.033 --> 00:35:18.735
Well,<00:35:17.900> it<00:35:18.462> is.

00:35:18.944 --> 00:35:30.361
And<00:35:19.105> so<00:35:19.442> this<00:35:19.667> whole<00:35:20.084> direct-to-consumer<00:35:21.610> approach<00:35:22.974> is<00:35:23.601> happening,<00:35:24.725> um,<00:35:25.367> and<00:35:25.704> the<00:35:25.785> healthcare<00:35:26.250> system,<00:35:26.684> or,<00:35:26.973> you<00:35:27.005> know,<00:35:27.374> they'll<00:35:27.952> go<00:35:28.177> kicking<00:35:28.498> and<00:35:28.595> screaming<00:35:28.996> to<00:35:29.141> try<00:35:29.317> to<00:35:29.398> avoid<00:35:29.799> that,<00:35:30.120> right?

00:35:30.907 --> 00:35:35.965
But<00:35:31.967> the<00:35:32.143> efficiencies<00:35:32.770> will<00:35:32.930> come<00:35:33.653> from<00:35:33.894> as<00:35:34.070> much<00:35:34.375> direct-to-consumer<00:35:35.258> as<00:35:35.419> possible.

00:35:36.543 --> 00:35:38.903
And<00:35:36.768> Amazon<00:35:37.169> is<00:35:37.490> absolutely<00:35:38.052> trying<00:35:38.181> to<00:35:38.309> do<00:35:38.454> that,<00:35:38.710> right?

00:35:39.256 --> 00:35:39.513
Yeah.

00:35:39.674 --> 00:35:45.133
With,<00:35:39.851> you<00:35:40.091> know,<00:35:40.316> all<00:35:40.477> of<00:35:40.557> us,<00:35:40.718> if<00:35:40.878> we're<00:35:41.103> Amazon<00:35:41.440> Prime<00:35:41.761> members,<00:35:42.789> you<00:35:42.821> know,<00:35:43.030> what<00:35:43.190> else<00:35:43.431> can<00:35:43.527> be<00:35:43.833> offered<00:35:44.089> to<00:35:44.411> us,<00:35:44.732> right?

00:35:45.599 --> 00:35:55.024
And<00:35:45.759> Clint,<00:35:46.899> we<00:35:47.060> know<00:35:47.237> which<00:35:47.461> probiotics<00:35:48.088> you<00:35:48.184> ordered<00:35:48.409> last<00:35:48.746> month<00:35:49.147> and<00:35:49.533> we<00:35:49.613> know<00:35:49.773> you<00:35:49.870> didn't<00:35:50.030> sleep<00:35:50.287> enough<00:35:50.833> and<00:35:51.315> we<00:35:51.411> have<00:35:51.556> an<00:35:51.620> insurance<00:35:52.021> company<00:35:52.439> and<00:35:52.664> we're<00:35:52.760> gonna<00:35:52.921> charge<00:35:53.226> you<00:35:53.306> more<00:35:53.418> if<00:35:53.547> you<00:35:53.579> don't<00:35:53.788> take<00:35:53.964> that<00:35:54.189> medicine<00:35:54.526> tomorrow,<00:35:54.847> right?

00:35:55.072 --> 00:35:55.650
I<00:35:55.088> mean,<00:35:55.313> it's—.

00:35:55.650 --> 00:35:55.827
Yeah.

00:35:56.678 --> 00:36:07.102
It<00:35:57.240> gets<00:35:57.497> into<00:35:57.594> some<00:35:57.818> interesting<00:35:58.461> dynamics,<00:35:59.103> but<00:36:00.131> it's,<00:36:01.095> I<00:36:01.191> think<00:36:02.316> at<00:36:02.460> the<00:36:02.540> end<00:36:02.717> of<00:36:02.781> the<00:36:02.878> day,<00:36:04.484> we<00:36:04.548> have<00:36:04.645> to<00:36:04.805> balance<00:36:05.287> the<00:36:05.367> privacy<00:36:06.572> factors.

00:36:07.295 --> 00:36:10.186
And<00:36:07.873> I'd<00:36:08.178> say<00:36:08.403> we're<00:36:08.499> in<00:36:08.564> the<00:36:08.596> middle<00:36:08.981> between<00:36:09.302> China<00:36:09.688> and<00:36:09.881> Europe.

00:36:10.330 --> 00:36:13.784
Europe<00:36:10.748> with<00:36:10.909> GDPR<00:36:11.551> is,<00:36:12.338> you<00:36:12.370> know,<00:36:12.756> privacy<00:36:13.077> is<00:36:13.173> an<00:36:13.302> even<00:36:13.478> bigger<00:36:13.719> deal.

00:36:13.880 --> 00:36:15.342
And<00:36:14.041> China,<00:36:14.522> you<00:36:14.555> know,<00:36:14.683> what's<00:36:14.844> privacy?

00:36:15.647 --> 00:36:15.888
Yeah.

00:36:15.952 --> 00:36:19.020
And,<00:36:16.434> you<00:36:16.466> know,<00:36:16.546> they'll<00:36:16.835> use,<00:36:17.317> you<00:36:17.494> know,<00:36:17.960> patient's<00:36:18.233> information<00:36:18.779> there.

00:36:19.341 --> 00:36:24.550
And<00:36:19.421> by<00:36:19.566> the<00:36:19.646> way,<00:36:19.823> they'll<00:36:19.999> have<00:36:20.224> a<00:36:20.288> competitive<00:36:20.786> advantage<00:36:21.188> in<00:36:21.268> some<00:36:21.493> ways<00:36:21.750> because<00:36:22.120> they<00:36:22.300> don't<00:36:22.440> have<00:36:22.800> to<00:36:23.040> worry<00:36:23.140> about<00:36:23.300> HIPAA<00:36:23.540> and<00:36:23.720> things<00:36:23.840> like<00:36:24.100> that.

00:36:24.700 --> 00:36:31.720
They'll<00:36:24.780> just<00:36:24.900> take<00:36:25.040> your<00:36:25.180> information<00:36:25.560> and<00:36:25.720> train<00:36:25.940> their<00:36:26.100> algorithms<00:36:26.500> to<00:36:26.740> detect<00:36:27.180> things<00:36:27.820> and<00:36:28.100> come<00:36:28.280> up<00:36:28.440> with<00:36:28.520> technologies<00:36:29.060> that'll<00:36:29.420> benefit<00:36:29.920> people<00:36:30.840> in<00:36:31.020> China.

00:36:31.720 --> 00:36:34.750
And<00:36:31.721> you<00:36:31.740> know<00:36:31.960> what,<00:36:32.120> guess<00:36:32.200> what,<00:36:32.640> they<00:36:32.760> might<00:36:32.900> develop<00:36:33.200> something<00:36:33.400> that<00:36:33.540> benefits<00:36:33.840> us<00:36:34.100> too.

00:36:34.920 --> 00:36:36.160
But<00:36:35.020> it's<00:36:35.220> an<00:36:35.300> ethical<00:36:35.660> question.

00:36:36.640 --> 00:36:42.140
Um,<00:36:37.040> and<00:36:37.120> so<00:36:37.180> we're<00:36:37.360> kind<00:36:37.500> of<00:36:37.620> in<00:36:37.740> the<00:36:37.880> middle,<00:36:38.230> I<00:36:38.240> would<00:36:38.339> say,<00:36:38.460> between<00:36:38.620> China<00:36:38.980> and<00:36:39.440> Europe<00:36:39.840> in<00:36:39.960> regards<00:36:40.280> to,<00:36:40.680> you<00:36:40.740> know,<00:36:41.000> where<00:36:41.020> we<00:36:41.220> fall<00:36:41.420> on<00:36:41.640> privacy.

00:36:42.320 --> 00:36:44.300
And<00:36:42.800> it's<00:36:42.880> a<00:36:43.040> delicate<00:36:43.240> balance<00:36:43.660> to<00:36:43.800> strike.

00:36:44.400 --> 00:36:46.080
Yeah,<00:36:45.100> for<00:36:45.260> sure.

00:36:46.080 --> 00:36:51.268
Finally,<00:36:46.440> I'll<00:36:46.520> let<00:36:46.620> you<00:36:46.760> go<00:36:46.880> because<00:36:46.980> I<00:36:47.100> want<00:36:47.200> to<00:36:47.300> be<00:36:47.340> respectful<00:36:47.720> of<00:36:47.900> your<00:36:47.980> time,<00:36:48.500> but,<00:36:48.920> um,<00:36:49.857> What<00:36:49.921> are<00:36:49.969> you<00:36:50.113> most<00:36:50.578> excited<00:36:51.076> about?

00:36:51.397 --> 00:36:53.289
The<00:36:51.541> end<00:36:51.637> of<00:36:51.701> this<00:36:51.878> decade,<00:36:52.359> we<00:36:52.503> get<00:36:52.664> to<00:36:52.744> 2030.

00:36:53.385 --> 00:37:00.443
What<00:36:53.482> do<00:36:53.546> you<00:36:53.642> think,<00:36:54.364> like,<00:36:54.701> is<00:36:55.102> something<00:36:55.487> that's<00:36:55.679> going<00:36:55.759> to<00:36:55.888> be—<00:36:56.272> we're<00:36:56.369> going<00:36:56.513> to<00:36:56.609> look<00:36:56.850> at,<00:36:57.796> um,<00:36:58.197> or<00:36:58.358> think<00:36:58.678> now,<00:36:59.015> like,<00:36:59.320> I<00:36:59.416> can't<00:36:59.577> even<00:36:59.737> believe<00:36:59.978> that<00:37:00.122> happened?

00:37:01.020 --> 00:37:09.409
So,<00:37:02.127> um,<00:37:03.009> I<00:37:03.025> was<00:37:03.250> asked<00:37:03.570> recently<00:37:04.052> something,<00:37:04.613> uh,<00:37:04.950> along<00:37:05.431> the<00:37:05.511> lines<00:37:05.832> of,<00:37:06.217> uh,<00:37:07.115> what's<00:37:07.356> a<00:37:07.420> headline<00:37:07.917> you<00:37:08.061> think<00:37:08.238> we'll<00:37:08.382> see<00:37:08.639> in<00:37:08.719> 2030?

00:37:10.387 --> 00:37:17.701
And<00:37:10.483> I<00:37:10.499> said,<00:37:10.708> I<00:37:10.724> think<00:37:10.900> it'd<00:37:11.029> be<00:37:11.125> pretty<00:37:11.350> amazing<00:37:11.767> to<00:37:11.863> say,<00:37:12.793> uh,<00:37:14.317> average<00:37:14.638> lifespan<00:37:15.151> is<00:37:15.295> 100<00:37:15.776> years<00:37:16.177> and<00:37:16.258> the<00:37:16.338> first<00:37:16.578> person<00:37:16.819> has<00:37:16.979> lived<00:37:17.140> to<00:37:17.220> 150.

00:37:19.047 --> 00:37:25.761
And<00:37:19.288> that<00:37:19.464> sounds<00:37:19.768> crazy,<00:37:20.986> but<00:37:22.669> maybe<00:37:22.829> it's<00:37:22.941> not<00:37:23.069> 2030,<00:37:23.710> but<00:37:23.887> it's,<00:37:24.736> you<00:37:24.768> know,<00:37:24.864> maybe<00:37:25.152> 2035.

00:37:26.034 --> 00:37:33.421
And<00:37:26.595> I<00:37:26.675> think<00:37:26.979> that<00:37:27.700> we're<00:37:29.303> all<00:37:29.495> gonna,<00:37:30.184> you<00:37:30.216> know,<00:37:30.585> live<00:37:31.482> much<00:37:31.786> longer<00:37:32.187> and<00:37:32.283> higher<00:37:32.588> quality<00:37:33.004> lives.

00:37:33.645 --> 00:37:37.972
And<00:37:35.007> it's<00:37:35.424> a<00:37:35.472> matter<00:37:35.632> of,<00:37:35.792> you<00:37:35.905> know,<00:37:36.193> what<00:37:36.289> are<00:37:36.353> we<00:37:36.449> gonna<00:37:36.674> do<00:37:36.770> with<00:37:36.930> that<00:37:37.106> extra<00:37:37.331> time,<00:37:37.715> right?

00:37:38.052 --> 00:37:40.071
And<00:37:38.853> are<00:37:38.933> we<00:37:39.077> gonna<00:37:39.318> use<00:37:39.510> it<00:37:39.574> efficiently?

00:37:40.311 --> 00:37:44.317
Or<00:37:40.375> we,<00:37:41.160> I<00:37:41.881> think<00:37:42.202> it's<00:37:43.516> an<00:37:43.596> amazing<00:37:44.061> time.

00:37:44.622 --> 00:37:48.172
And<00:37:45.891> I'm<00:37:46.710> personally<00:37:47.032> very<00:37:47.257> excited<00:37:47.674> about<00:37:47.996> it.

00:37:48.943 --> 00:37:57.844
And<00:37:49.763> I<00:37:49.843> think<00:37:50.148> for<00:37:50.791> us,<00:37:51.193> you<00:37:51.225> know,<00:37:51.353> what<00:37:51.450> gets<00:37:51.755> us<00:37:51.916> up<00:37:52.173> every<00:37:52.333> day<00:37:52.655> is<00:37:53.378> to<00:37:53.956> say,<00:37:54.245> okay,<00:37:54.679> if<00:37:54.824> we<00:37:54.968> can<00:37:55.065> do<00:37:55.225> things<00:37:55.450> even<00:37:55.691> one<00:37:55.852> day<00:37:56.029> faster,<00:37:56.511> we're<00:37:56.591> gonna<00:37:56.752> impact<00:37:57.089> someone's<00:37:57.619> life.

00:37:58.744 --> 00:38:20.864
And<00:37:59.644> whether<00:37:59.885> it's<00:38:00.126> to<00:38:00.302> detect<00:38:02.278> breast<00:38:02.519> cancer<00:38:02.857> and<00:38:02.953> heart<00:38:03.162> disease<00:38:03.499> earlier<00:38:03.821> in<00:38:03.965> women,<00:38:04.447> or<00:38:04.865> it's<00:38:05.106> to<00:38:05.331> recommend<00:38:05.749> the<00:38:05.893> best<00:38:06.134> combination<00:38:06.697> of<00:38:06.793> drugs<00:38:07.741> for<00:38:07.837> a<00:38:07.982> lung<00:38:08.143> cancer<00:38:08.544> patient<00:38:09.042> with<00:38:09.187> our<00:38:09.283> CureMatch<00:38:09.685> technology,<00:38:10.488> or<00:38:10.649> it's<00:38:10.810> to<00:38:10.970> help<00:38:11.757> one<00:38:11.870> of<00:38:11.934> the<00:38:12.014> pharma<00:38:12.271> companies<00:38:12.962> get<00:38:13.380> a<00:38:13.604> clinical<00:38:13.942> trial<00:38:14.263> to<00:38:14.343> market<00:38:14.729> faster<00:38:16.287> so<00:38:16.576> that,<00:38:17.138> um,<00:38:17.395> not<00:38:17.620> only<00:38:17.780> can<00:38:18.342> people<00:38:18.519> benefit<00:38:18.840> faster,<00:38:19.242> but<00:38:19.483> at<00:38:19.563> the<00:38:19.643> end<00:38:19.740> of<00:38:19.820> the<00:38:19.900> day,<00:38:20.045> you<00:38:20.109> have<00:38:20.205> to<00:38:20.366> follow<00:38:20.591> the<00:38:20.623> money.
