From pirate ship to crappy navy
In 2017, a friend called Curtis Anderson and told him to look at a nurse staffing agency. Software hadn't gotten there yet, the friend said. Anderson drove out to see it. The owners were a husband and wife. They ran the business on a whiteboard. Orange sticky notes on the left with nurses' names. Green sticky notes on the right with hospitals that needed them. The husband walked up, took one from each side, and said that making money in this business was that easy.
Anderson bought the agency. "If I'm half of what my mother thinks I am with Excel, we ought to be able to compress and make this better," he told the CEO.com Podcast.
Six weeks in, he understood what he had bought. Agencies employ nurses and rent them to facilities on 12- to 16-week contracts. That's where the money is. A facility that needs someone for a single 12-hour shift tomorrow is not worth a recruiter's afternoon. So those shifts sat. In Anderson's first year, 38 percent of the per diem requests that reached the agency had already passed. The shift was yesterday, or the day before. Of all the short-term shifts the agency saw that year, it filled fewer than 15 basis points.
He had a background in product and engineering. He figured that if he could get the facility manager and the nurse in front of each other without anyone in between, and fill even five percent of those shifts, he'd be doing eight to ten times better than the agency. He bootstrapped the software through 2018 and 2019. Nursa went into the App Store on March 3, 2020.
For about a month afterward, he thought he'd picked the worst possible moment. New York was underwater within ten days. Hospitals don't adopt operational technology quickly in good years, and he feared that in a crisis they'd retreat to the agencies they already trusted.
Then facilities in Utah started calling. One needed 22 of 26 nurses staffed by the next day or it would fold. Anderson says early adopters come in two kinds: the technically proficient and the technically desperate. Nobody in April 2020 asked whether the platform worked. They asked him to throw mud at the wall. After a few weeks of the mud sticking, the calls changed. Remind us how you're doing this.
"Half of that is the moment, the luck, or the grace of the moment," he said. "The other half of it is how quickly you roll up your sleeves and grab a shovel. There was a lot of shoveling in 2020."
Nursa counts completed shift hours. From 2020 to the middle of 2023, that number grew 67 percent a month on average. The company raised $80 million from Drive Capital, Pelion, and Kickstart in August 2023, when it had 1,300 facilities and 95,000 nurses on the platform. By last spring it had 350,000 clinicians and 2,400 facilities. It made the 2025 Inc. 5000. Anderson was Utah Business's CEO of the Year in 2024 and a Salt Lake City Titan 100 honoree this year. He puts the company's market penetration at under 1.5 percent.
He calls what happened to Nursa in those years a corporate version of puberty. "You start as this pirate ship, you're on the way, you want to become a Royal Navy, and inevitably that means you end up being a crappy navy."
One thing that changed was him. Early on, he says, the job was to speak first. Somebody had to say where the horizon was. Over the last 18 months, the job has become speaking last. The people in the room now are smarter than the problem, and if the founder talks too soon, they never get to find that out. "In some sense, you're taking them out of the batting cage before they've got enough swings."
He learned that from a high school teacher in a southern Idaho town, though he didn't put it that way. Idaho lets farm kids leave school at noon to work. Darrell Muck used that law to hand the entire school district's IT department to teenagers. He was the only employee over 18. Anderson started as a freshman and worked up. Muck found the grants, set the structure, and then got out of the way.
Nursa's office sits next to the railroad tracks outside Salt Lake City, a few dozen miles from where the transcontinental line was joined. Anderson looks at them every morning. He says they remind him that nobody is self-made.

00:00:31.876 --> 00:00:35.130

00:00:35.322 --> 00:00:37.582
I'm<00:00:35.915> excited<00:00:36.380> to<00:00:36.460> have<00:00:36.636> a<00:00:36.765> discussion<00:00:37.342> today.
00:00:38.448 --> 00:00:39.778
Uh,<00:00:38.784> background<00:00:39.249> on<00:00:39.345> Nursa.
00:00:40.323 --> 00:00:53.179
Nursa<00:00:41.429> enables<00:00:42.151> facility<00:00:42.696> managers<00:00:43.337> in<00:00:43.433> a<00:00:43.497> healthcare<00:00:43.850> setting,<00:00:44.780> uh,<00:00:45.020> who<00:00:45.180> have<00:00:45.437> short-term,<00:00:46.703> uh,<00:00:47.024> help<00:00:47.296> needs,<00:00:47.986> staffing<00:00:48.547> needs<00:00:49.204> to<00:00:49.364> connect<00:00:49.909> with<00:00:50.085> qualified<00:00:50.727> nurses,<00:00:51.592> uh,<00:00:51.753> who<00:00:51.849> can<00:00:52.009> fill<00:00:52.314> those<00:00:52.490> short-term<00:00:52.971> gaps.
00:00:54.415 --> 00:00:59.473
A<00:00:54.560> very,<00:00:54.977> a<00:00:55.058> very<00:00:55.363> direct<00:00:55.780> and<00:00:55.925> transparent<00:00:56.744> platform-based<00:00:57.611> connection<00:00:58.670> via<00:00:58.831> software.
00:01:00.115 --> 00:01:01.753
It<00:01:00.180> sounds<00:01:01.063> pretty<00:01:01.239> simple.
00:01:02.925 --> 00:01:04.467
Generally,<00:01:03.327> that's<00:01:03.808> because<00:01:04.130> it<00:01:04.274> is.
00:01:04.611 --> 00:01:05.607
It<00:01:04.756> is<00:01:04.997> pretty<00:01:05.173> simple.
00:01:06.377 --> 00:01:10.472
But<00:01:06.538> that<00:01:06.779> hasn't<00:01:07.100> been<00:01:07.501> the<00:01:07.726> way<00:01:07.983> things<00:01:08.304> have<00:01:08.545> worked<00:01:08.866> in<00:01:08.947> the<00:01:09.107> industry<00:01:09.749> historically.
00:01:11.660 --> 00:01:22.511
Agencies,<00:01:12.334> staffing<00:01:12.864> agencies,<00:01:13.603> have<00:01:14.229> long<00:01:14.647> filled<00:01:15.193> the<00:01:15.289> gaps<00:01:16.493> in<00:01:16.718> all<00:01:16.878> kinds<00:01:17.216> of<00:01:17.376> ways<00:01:17.762> with<00:01:17.938> talent,<00:01:19.287> whom<00:01:19.527> they<00:01:20.169> own<00:01:20.426> the<00:01:20.570> relationship<00:01:21.308> with<00:01:21.613> through<00:01:21.950> employment.
00:01:22.832 --> 00:01:24.998
So<00:01:22.993> it's<00:01:23.474> a<00:01:23.554> W-2<00:01:24.420> engagement.
00:01:26.041 --> 00:01:34.832
They're<00:01:26.346> offering,<00:01:26.923> they<00:01:27.003> then<00:01:27.244> go<00:01:27.485> to<00:01:27.581> these<00:01:28.110> healthcare<00:01:28.511> facilities<00:01:29.314> offering<00:01:30.035> a<00:01:30.276> portion<00:01:31.640> of<00:01:31.800> their<00:01:32.057> pool<00:01:32.378> of<00:01:32.538> talent<00:01:33.421> to<00:01:33.581> the<00:01:33.661> facilities<00:01:34.367> in<00:01:34.495> need.
00:01:35.747 --> 00:01:38.619
And<00:01:35.907> they<00:01:36.132> generally<00:01:36.693> are<00:01:36.790> looking<00:01:37.110> for<00:01:37.335> longer-term<00:01:37.977> contracts.
00:01:38.795 --> 00:01:51.811
So<00:01:38.939> this<00:01:39.116> is<00:01:39.276> more<00:01:39.597> of<00:01:39.822> a,<00:01:40.383> historically,<00:01:41.057> it's<00:01:41.282> been<00:01:41.442> more<00:01:41.747> of<00:01:41.907> a<00:01:42.710> Nurse<00:01:42.966> Nancy's<00:01:43.431> leaving<00:01:43.833> on<00:01:44.025> summer<00:01:44.394> break<00:01:45.758> or,<00:01:46.256> or<00:01:46.336> for<00:01:46.561> a<00:01:46.738> longer-term<00:01:47.541> period,<00:01:48.424> and<00:01:48.584> we<00:01:48.664> need<00:01:48.905> to<00:01:49.050> fill<00:01:49.307> that<00:01:49.612> gap<00:01:50.013> for<00:01:50.431> 12<00:01:50.848> to<00:01:50.976> 16<00:01:51.538> weeks.
00:01:52.983 --> 00:02:02.376
There's,<00:01:53.722> there's<00:01:53.947> often<00:01:54.284> multiple<00:01:55.006> parties<00:01:55.649> involved<00:01:56.130> in<00:01:56.211> that<00:01:56.451> discussion<00:01:57.094> historically<00:01:58.298> between<00:01:58.699> the<00:01:58.763> manager<00:01:59.261> and<00:01:59.406> the<00:01:59.486> facility<00:02:00.064> that<00:02:00.289> needs<00:02:00.529> the<00:02:00.610> help<00:02:00.883> and<00:02:01.011> the<00:02:01.043> nurse<00:02:01.509> who<00:02:01.734> wants<00:02:01.991> to<00:02:02.151> work.
00:02:02.890 --> 00:02:14.157
So<00:02:03.034> it<00:02:03.114> becomes<00:02:03.580> this<00:02:03.837> big<00:02:04.319> adult<00:02:04.720> game<00:02:04.977> of<00:02:05.121> telephone,<00:02:06.245> and<00:02:06.309> you<00:02:06.406> can't<00:02:06.727> solve<00:02:07.128> for<00:02:07.289> short-term<00:02:07.787> needs<00:02:08.316> very<00:02:08.573> well<00:02:08.991> at<00:02:09.199> all,<00:02:09.761> uh,<00:02:10.018> because<00:02:10.323> just<00:02:10.500> like<00:02:11.125> the,<00:02:11.462> the<00:02:11.542> game<00:02:11.847> you<00:02:11.943> used<00:02:12.120> to<00:02:12.328> play<00:02:12.569> on<00:02:12.649> the<00:02:12.746> elementary<00:02:13.227> school<00:02:13.548> playground.
00:02:15.072 --> 00:02:25.598
Lots<00:02:15.393> of<00:02:15.537> people<00:02:15.794> get<00:02:15.955> involved,<00:02:16.580> the<00:02:16.660> message<00:02:17.222> gets,<00:02:18.105> uh,<00:02:18.923> gets<00:02:19.244> distracting<00:02:20.271> or,<00:02:20.752> or<00:02:20.912> torn<00:02:21.153> apart,<00:02:22.036> and<00:02:22.356> what<00:02:22.597> goes<00:02:22.854> in<00:02:23.014> one<00:02:23.191> side<00:02:23.576> doesn't<00:02:23.817> come<00:02:24.057> out<00:02:24.234> the<00:02:24.362> other<00:02:24.523> side<00:02:24.859> in<00:02:25.004> the<00:02:25.036> same<00:02:25.405> way.
00:02:26.865 --> 00:02:30.363
And<00:02:26.929> so<00:02:28.614> that<00:02:28.855> was,<00:02:29.256> that<00:02:29.352> was<00:02:29.496> how<00:02:29.657> I<00:02:29.833> started.
00:02:30.636 --> 00:02:37.230
I<00:02:30.716> bought<00:02:30.957> an<00:02:31.101> agency,<00:02:31.679> and,<00:02:31.999> and<00:02:32.144> I<00:02:32.224> really<00:02:32.481> felt<00:02:32.721> like<00:02:33.524> ultimately<00:02:34.631> we<00:02:34.807> were<00:02:35.273> helping<00:02:35.690> to<00:02:35.850> facilitate<00:02:36.588> solutions.
00:02:37.294 --> 00:02:45.282
And<00:02:37.391> it<00:02:37.455> didn't<00:02:37.808> take<00:02:38.000> very<00:02:38.241> long,<00:02:38.578> 6<00:02:38.899> weeks<00:02:40.103> before<00:02:40.488> I<00:02:40.648> realized<00:02:41.370> that<00:02:42.171> we're<00:02:42.332> actually<00:02:42.989> a<00:02:43.149> part<00:02:43.390> of<00:02:43.534> a<00:02:43.951> bigger,<00:02:44.416> broader<00:02:44.833> problem.
00:02:45.939 --> 00:02:50.573
And<00:02:46.196> during<00:02:46.436> that<00:02:46.597> time<00:02:46.837> period,<00:02:47.158> I<00:02:47.254> saw<00:02:48.184> these<00:02:48.345> shorter-term<00:02:49.082> needs<00:02:49.483> that<00:02:49.627> would<00:02:49.723> just<00:02:49.884> go<00:02:50.124> unfilled.
00:02:50.702 --> 00:03:01.092
It's<00:02:51.070> really<00:02:51.247> hard<00:02:51.632> to<00:02:51.808> incentivize<00:02:52.610> a<00:02:52.674> recruiter<00:02:53.171> to<00:02:53.331> chase<00:02:54.133> a<00:02:54.149> 12-hour<00:02:54.855> need<00:02:55.656> when<00:02:55.801> you<00:02:55.977> had<00:02:56.298> like<00:02:56.538> an<00:02:56.779> endless,<00:02:57.645> nearly<00:02:58.142> endless<00:02:58.382> stream<00:02:58.863> of<00:02:59.023> 12-week<00:03:00.210> needs<00:03:00.467> available.
00:03:01.669 --> 00:03:07.265
And<00:03:01.749> so<00:03:01.990> that<00:03:02.150> shorter-term,<00:03:02.936> that<00:03:03.176> per<00:03:03.273> diem<00:03:03.673> piece,<00:03:05.357> that<00:03:05.662> was<00:03:05.902> where<00:03:06.239> I<00:03:06.319> got<00:03:06.560> really<00:03:06.800> interested.
00:03:07.442 --> 00:03:09.975
Backgrounds<00:03:08.083> in<00:03:08.724> product<00:03:09.206> and<00:03:09.446> engineering.
00:03:10.023 --> 00:03:28.577
And<00:03:10.168> so<00:03:11.595> working<00:03:12.012> through<00:03:12.413> how<00:03:12.653> we<00:03:12.814> might,<00:03:13.519> you<00:03:13.551> know,<00:03:13.936> compress<00:03:14.658> the<00:03:14.738> middlemen<00:03:15.460> and<00:03:15.620> create<00:03:16.037> a<00:03:16.181> digital<00:03:16.518> switchboard<00:03:17.304> where<00:03:17.929> we<00:03:18.025> could<00:03:18.250> connect<00:03:18.667> the<00:03:18.811> two<00:03:18.988> parties<00:03:19.469> that<00:03:19.629> needed<00:03:19.950> to<00:03:20.094> engage<00:03:20.671> quickly,<00:03:21.954> that<00:03:22.195> was<00:03:22.499> the,<00:03:22.740> that<00:03:22.916> was<00:03:23.077> the<00:03:23.157> hypothesis<00:03:24.023> on<00:03:24.119> which<00:03:24.360> we<00:03:24.456> started<00:03:24.905> building<00:03:25.226> the<00:03:25.258> software<00:03:25.723> to<00:03:25.803> see<00:03:25.979> if<00:03:26.108> we<00:03:26.204> could<00:03:26.348> solve<00:03:26.605> for<00:03:26.845> that<00:03:27.166> problem.
00:03:29.090 --> 00:03:33.709
Nurses,<00:03:29.796> you<00:03:29.892> know,<00:03:29.972> will<00:03:30.133> go<00:03:30.373> on<00:03:30.630> and<00:03:30.934> after<00:03:31.175> the<00:03:31.319> job<00:03:31.592> is<00:03:31.736> listed,<00:03:32.121> request<00:03:32.538> the<00:03:32.618> shifts<00:03:33.019> that<00:03:33.163> they<00:03:33.324> want<00:03:33.404> to<00:03:33.500> fill.
00:03:34.222 --> 00:03:43.813
The<00:03:34.318> manager<00:03:34.783> can<00:03:34.944> then<00:03:35.088> determine<00:03:35.906> which<00:03:36.146> nurse<00:03:36.531> they<00:03:36.708> want<00:03:37.029> to<00:03:37.173> schedule<00:03:38.536> to<00:03:38.649> fill<00:03:38.953> the<00:03:39.098> gap<00:03:39.499> based<00:03:39.819> on<00:03:39.996> credentials<00:03:40.798> or<00:03:41.279> reliability,<00:03:42.322> any<00:03:42.482> number<00:03:42.803> of<00:03:42.963> quality<00:03:43.444> pieces.
00:03:45.128 --> 00:03:47.213
And<00:03:45.193> then<00:03:45.353> if<00:03:45.449> it<00:03:45.594> works<00:03:45.914> out,<00:03:46.091> both<00:03:46.251> parties<00:03:46.652> can<00:03:46.812> repeat.
00:03:48.336 --> 00:03:56.644
If<00:03:48.416> it<00:03:48.497> turns<00:03:48.882> out<00:03:48.978> that<00:03:49.122> everybody<00:03:50.100> has<00:03:50.341> a<00:03:50.405> good<00:03:50.566> time<00:03:50.902> and<00:03:51.223> that<00:03:51.624> they<00:03:51.785> want<00:03:51.913> to<00:03:52.025> repeat,<00:03:53.212> we<00:03:53.308> don't<00:03:53.549> get<00:03:53.709> in<00:03:53.789> the<00:03:53.934> way<00:03:55.217> of<00:03:55.393> interrupting<00:03:55.939> serendipity.
00:03:56.853 --> 00:04:02.579
No<00:03:56.997> fees<00:03:58.505> to<00:03:58.601> hire<00:03:58.922> away<00:03:59.467> or<00:03:59.564> make<00:03:59.740> a<00:03:59.804> transfer<00:04:00.446> to<00:04:00.606> a<00:04:00.686> full-time<00:04:01.151> relationship<00:04:01.729> with<00:04:01.953> the<00:04:02.050> facility.
00:04:03.797 --> 00:04:08.878
And,<00:04:04.214> and<00:04:04.358> in<00:04:04.454> that<00:04:04.695> sense,<00:04:05.096> we're<00:04:05.176> making<00:04:05.560> the<00:04:05.657> process<00:04:06.218> more<00:04:06.362> simple<00:04:06.843> than,<00:04:07.484> than<00:04:07.564> it<00:04:07.660> has<00:04:07.981> been<00:04:08.141> in<00:04:08.221> the<00:04:08.365> past.
00:04:09.888 --> 00:04:17.726
Getting<00:04:10.129> exposure<00:04:11.090> during<00:04:11.411> the<00:04:12.052> owning<00:04:12.293> an<00:04:12.389> agency<00:04:13.415> was<00:04:13.815> a<00:04:13.992> really<00:04:14.232> great<00:04:14.537> way<00:04:14.713> to<00:04:14.873> facilitate,<00:04:15.995> start<00:04:16.316> to<00:04:16.396> facilitate<00:04:17.053> solutions.
00:04:18.704 --> 00:04:23.288
And<00:04:18.864> then<00:04:19.105> has<00:04:19.281> been<00:04:19.506> an<00:04:19.602> incredible<00:04:20.483> place<00:04:21.189> to<00:04:21.285> build<00:04:21.541> from<00:04:21.862> a<00:04:21.926> foundation<00:04:22.567> to<00:04:22.727> build<00:04:22.904> from.
00:04:24.170 --> 00:04:26.029
How<00:04:24.330> did<00:04:24.490> you<00:04:24.715> realize<00:04:25.116> that<00:04:25.212> this<00:04:25.372> was<00:04:25.532> a<00:04:25.612> problem?
00:04:26.077 --> 00:04:27.007
I<00:04:26.109> mean,<00:04:26.254> what<00:04:26.414> was<00:04:26.510> your<00:04:26.654> background?
00:04:27.055 --> 00:04:30.485
What<00:04:27.215> was<00:04:27.392> it<00:04:27.456> like<00:04:27.760> the<00:04:27.857> thing<00:04:28.097> that<00:04:28.257> switches<00:04:28.578> like,<00:04:28.738> I<00:04:28.818> need<00:04:28.963> to<00:04:28.995> start<00:04:29.235> a<00:04:29.299> company<00:04:29.764> that<00:04:29.876> addresses<00:04:30.341> this?
00:04:31.609 --> 00:04:43.030
Yeah,<00:04:31.802> so<00:04:32.027> had<00:04:32.188> done<00:04:32.589> a<00:04:32.830> number<00:04:33.232> of<00:04:33.392> things<00:04:34.276> in<00:04:34.436> software<00:04:35.978> solving<00:04:36.525> problems,<00:04:37.087> and<00:04:37.729> you<00:04:37.810> really<00:04:38.532> get<00:04:38.757> into<00:04:38.934> that<00:04:39.255> game<00:04:39.737> by<00:04:39.898> just<00:04:40.203> an<00:04:40.299> itch<00:04:40.701> that<00:04:41.809> you<00:04:41.889> can't<00:04:42.163> scratch,<00:04:42.773> right?
00:04:43.351 --> 00:04:56.121
I<00:04:43.528> knew<00:04:43.833> that<00:04:45.198> from<00:04:45.375> a<00:04:45.504> young<00:04:45.761> age,<00:04:46.066> I<00:04:46.098> knew<00:04:46.467> that<00:04:47.046> software<00:04:47.608> could<00:04:47.993> help<00:04:49.053> facilitate<00:04:49.776> better<00:04:50.033> solutions,<00:04:51.286> automation<00:04:51.864> or<00:04:52.009> augmentation,<00:04:53.872> but<00:04:54.097> had<00:04:54.258> a<00:04:54.274> chance<00:04:55.238> to<00:04:55.462> test<00:04:55.719> that<00:04:55.944> out.
00:04:56.282 --> 00:04:59.539
A<00:04:56.362> whole<00:04:56.603> bunch<00:04:56.988> of<00:04:57.148> relationships,<00:04:57.967> built<00:04:58.143> a<00:04:58.207> number<00:04:58.528> of<00:04:58.673> different<00:04:58.930> solutions.
00:04:59.636 --> 00:05:03.198
And<00:05:00.117> the<00:05:00.213> beauty<00:05:00.534> of<00:05:00.631> that<00:05:00.855> was<00:05:01.016> just<00:05:01.240> getting<00:05:01.417> to<00:05:01.513> see<00:05:01.818> lots<00:05:02.203> of<00:05:02.364> different<00:05:02.701> problems.
00:05:04.049 --> 00:05:15.652
Um,<00:05:04.306> I<00:05:04.370> had<00:05:04.546> a,<00:05:05.012> a<00:05:05.092> friend<00:05:05.574> who<00:05:05.814> called<00:05:06.135> me<00:05:06.231> and<00:05:06.376> said,<00:05:07.194> you<00:05:07.355> ought<00:05:07.515> to<00:05:07.820> look<00:05:08.061> at,<00:05:08.623> uh,<00:05:09.120> this<00:05:09.505> nurse<00:05:09.714> staffing<00:05:10.227> agency,<00:05:10.725> a<00:05:10.789> traditional<00:05:11.431> agency,<00:05:12.490> because<00:05:12.891> this<00:05:13.116> is<00:05:13.212> a<00:05:13.357> place<00:05:13.694> where<00:05:13.806> software<00:05:14.480> hasn't<00:05:14.817> quite<00:05:15.122> got<00:05:15.299> to<00:05:15.459> yet.
00:05:16.486 --> 00:05:17.562
Um,<00:05:16.984> and<00:05:17.144> I<00:05:17.224> did.
00:05:17.610 --> 00:05:28.672
I<00:05:17.690> was<00:05:17.850> really<00:05:18.187> impressed<00:05:18.669> with<00:05:18.829> the<00:05:18.990> growth<00:05:19.391> dynamics<00:05:20.033> of<00:05:20.193> the<00:05:20.354> business<00:05:21.461> and,<00:05:21.943> and<00:05:22.039> then<00:05:22.344> thought<00:05:24.191> You<00:05:24.223> know,<00:05:24.367> as<00:05:24.512> I<00:05:24.673> went<00:05:25.395> to<00:05:25.492> visit<00:05:25.877> headquarters,<00:05:26.520> there<00:05:26.680> was<00:05:26.921> a<00:05:27.002> mom-and-pop<00:05:27.725> that<00:05:27.821> were<00:05:27.982> running<00:05:28.303> the<00:05:28.383> thing.
00:05:29.170 --> 00:05:34.487
There's<00:05:29.347> a<00:05:29.492> whiteboard,<00:05:30.311> and<00:05:30.455> on<00:05:30.632> one<00:05:30.793> side<00:05:31.098> of<00:05:31.130> the<00:05:31.275> whiteboard,<00:05:32.881> they're<00:05:33.122> walking<00:05:33.443> me<00:05:33.604> through<00:05:33.829> how<00:05:34.005> they<00:05:34.230> did<00:05:34.391> it.
00:05:34.873 --> 00:05:37.828
One<00:05:35.033> side<00:05:35.226> of<00:05:35.290> the<00:05:35.371> whiteboard<00:05:35.853> is<00:05:35.997> orange<00:05:36.238> sticky<00:05:36.592> notes<00:05:36.961> with<00:05:37.138> nurse<00:05:37.443> names.
00:05:38.326 --> 00:05:41.925
The<00:05:38.407> other<00:05:38.519> side<00:05:38.808> of<00:05:38.840> the<00:05:38.969> whiteboard<00:05:39.371> is<00:05:39.531> green<00:05:39.788> sticky<00:05:40.126> notes<00:05:40.511> with<00:05:40.656> hospitals<00:05:41.218> that<00:05:41.378> had<00:05:41.555> needs.

The<00:05:43.724> guy<00:05:43.965> running<00:05:44.350> it<00:05:44.511> walked<00:05:44.768> up<00:05:44.912> to<00:05:45.009> the<00:05:45.153> whiteboard<00:05:45.635> and<00:05:45.716> said,<00:05:46.455> you<00:05:46.631> know,<00:05:47.017> making<00:05:47.290> money<00:05:47.659> in<00:05:47.740> this<00:05:47.981> business<00:05:48.446> is<00:05:48.543> this<00:05:48.800> easy.
00:05:49.330 --> 00:05:51.884
Took<00:05:49.507> a<00:05:49.523> sticky<00:05:49.908> note<00:05:50.229> from<00:05:50.872> from<00:05:51.049> either<00:05:51.354> side.
00:05:52.462 --> 00:06:06.853
And<00:05:53.442> you<00:05:53.506> have<00:05:53.683> a<00:05:53.699> lot<00:05:53.988> of<00:05:54.020> thoughts<00:05:54.791> at<00:05:54.887> that<00:05:55.128> point,<00:05:55.594> but<00:05:55.835> one<00:05:56.012> of<00:05:56.092> them<00:05:56.333> was<00:05:56.510> just,<00:05:56.895> look,<00:05:57.072> if<00:05:57.152> I'm<00:05:57.939> half<00:05:58.260> of<00:05:58.405> what<00:05:58.581> my<00:05:58.678> mother<00:05:59.063> thinks<00:05:59.368> I<00:05:59.465> am<00:05:59.770> with<00:05:59.947> Excel,<00:06:00.669> we<00:06:00.894> ought<00:06:00.943> to<00:06:01.071> be<00:06:01.232> able<00:06:01.473> to<00:06:01.697> compress<00:06:02.260> and<00:06:02.356> make<00:06:02.597> this<00:06:02.838> better,<00:06:03.480> let<00:06:03.641> alone,<00:06:04.348> you<00:06:04.380> know,<00:06:04.524> let<00:06:04.701> alone<00:06:05.086> the<00:06:05.247> power<00:06:05.632> of<00:06:05.793> the<00:06:05.889> internet<00:06:06.275> as<00:06:06.387> a<00:06:06.516> verb.
00:06:07.415 --> 00:06:10.885
So,<00:06:07.913> so<00:06:08.138> that<00:06:08.443> was,<00:06:09.086> that<00:06:09.327> was<00:06:09.568> where<00:06:09.744> I<00:06:09.905> got<00:06:10.242> intrigued.
00:06:11.495 --> 00:06:24.041
Um,<00:06:12.153> purchasing,<00:06:13.181> you<00:06:13.262> know,<00:06:13.503> purchasing<00:06:14.001> the<00:06:14.161> business<00:06:14.948> and<00:06:15.189> understanding<00:06:15.912> really<00:06:16.169> quickly<00:06:17.036> the<00:06:17.196> dynamics<00:06:17.853> of<00:06:18.158> why<00:06:18.495> that<00:06:18.719> was<00:06:18.960> problematic<00:06:20.803> certainly<00:06:21.380> was,<00:06:21.845> you<00:06:21.877> know,<00:06:22.422> you're<00:06:22.663> buying<00:06:23.288> the<00:06:23.448> problem.
00:06:24.731 --> 00:06:32.730
And<00:06:25.131> I<00:06:25.228> think<00:06:25.452> there<00:06:26.590> are<00:06:26.654> certainly<00:06:27.232> better<00:06:27.552> ways,<00:06:28.835> fiscally<00:06:29.316> safer<00:06:29.780> ways<00:06:30.181> to<00:06:30.662> establish<00:06:31.255> an<00:06:31.384> understanding<00:06:32.105> of<00:06:32.217> the<00:06:32.361> problem.
00:06:32.842 --> 00:06:39.367
But<00:06:33.484> for<00:06:34.702> me,<00:06:36.449> so<00:06:36.594> much<00:06:36.834> of<00:06:36.930> how<00:06:37.171> I<00:06:37.331> learn<00:06:37.732> is<00:06:38.036> getting<00:06:38.678> in<00:06:38.774> the<00:06:38.854> thick<00:06:39.159> of<00:06:39.319> it.
00:06:40.040 --> 00:06:46.147
And<00:06:40.377> there<00:06:40.537> just<00:06:40.762> was<00:06:40.938> no<00:06:41.339> better<00:06:41.724> way<00:06:42.220> to<00:06:42.862> to<00:06:43.086> work<00:06:43.342> backwards<00:06:44.144> into<00:06:44.625> what,<00:06:45.025> what<00:06:45.250> the<00:06:45.362> industry<00:06:45.810> needed.
00:06:46.708 --> 00:06:48.343
This<00:06:46.868> was<00:06:47.093> all<00:06:47.269> pre-COVID<00:06:47.990> as<00:06:48.214> well.
00:06:48.535 --> 00:07:16.822
And<00:06:48.647> so<00:06:49.577> you,<00:06:49.977> you're<00:06:50.105> starting<00:06:50.554> to<00:06:50.698> get<00:06:50.811> a<00:06:50.875> sense<00:06:51.420> of<00:06:51.580> the<00:06:51.676> problem,<00:06:52.622> uh,<00:06:52.878> 2017,<00:06:53.904> 2018,<00:06:55.282> and<00:06:55.426> then,<00:06:55.907> and<00:06:55.987> then<00:06:56.083> you<00:06:56.324> build<00:06:56.628> out<00:06:56.869> the,<00:06:57.205> the<00:06:57.445> tech,<00:06:58.231> um,<00:06:58.567> bootstrapped<00:06:59.272> and,<00:06:59.994> uh,<00:07:00.170> facilitated<00:07:01.051> that<00:07:01.292> through<00:07:01.452> 2019<00:07:02.814> and<00:07:03.039> really<00:07:03.375> started<00:07:03.776> to<00:07:03.936> learn<00:07:04.176> the<00:07:04.337> dynamics<00:07:05.042> of,<00:07:05.923> you<00:07:05.955> know,<00:07:06.885> can<00:07:07.061> we<00:07:07.302> get<00:07:07.766> a<00:07:07.782> manager<00:07:08.487> who<00:07:08.584> has<00:07:08.824> a<00:07:08.840> need<00:07:09.369> and<00:07:09.465> a<00:07:09.481> nurse<00:07:10.026> in<00:07:10.170> the<00:07:10.202> same<00:07:10.587> place<00:07:10.971> online<00:07:11.388> at<00:07:11.532> the<00:07:11.613> same<00:07:11.933> time<00:07:12.334> or<00:07:12.430> in<00:07:12.526> a<00:07:12.590> close<00:07:12.991> enough<00:07:13.472> a<00:07:13.552> close<00:07:13.792> enough<00:07:14.097> gap<00:07:14.433> that<00:07:14.914> we<00:07:15.059> could<00:07:15.219> solve<00:07:15.620> for<00:07:15.796> a<00:07:15.940> problem<00:07:16.357> tomorrow.
00:07:17.864 --> 00:07:33.349
And<00:07:18.617> it<00:07:18.665> was<00:07:18.778> a<00:07:18.842> pretty<00:07:19.146> low<00:07:19.403> bar<00:07:19.884> to,<00:07:20.525> to<00:07:20.910> entry<00:07:21.246> because<00:07:22.208> in<00:07:22.352> the<00:07:22.432> first<00:07:22.849> year<00:07:23.090> that<00:07:23.250> we<00:07:23.474> owned<00:07:23.731> the<00:07:23.955> agency,<00:07:24.997> uh,<00:07:25.190> and<00:07:25.478> was<00:07:25.719> working<00:07:26.216> with<00:07:26.376> that<00:07:26.616> team<00:07:26.841> to<00:07:26.921> scale<00:07:27.257> it<00:07:27.402> out,<00:07:27.883> these<00:07:27.995> short-term<00:07:28.620> per<00:07:28.780> diem<00:07:29.101> needs,<00:07:29.902> 38%<00:07:31.041> of<00:07:31.185> them<00:07:31.425> that<00:07:31.586> we<00:07:31.682> saw<00:07:32.307> were<00:07:32.531> dead<00:07:32.772> on<00:07:32.868> arrival.
00:07:33.766 --> 00:07:42.518
So<00:07:34.712> literally<00:07:35.176> if<00:07:35.273> I<00:07:35.417> got<00:07:35.593> a<00:07:35.737> list<00:07:35.930> of<00:07:36.058> shifts<00:07:36.395> today,<00:07:37.597> um,<00:07:38.078> 38%<00:07:38.863> of<00:07:38.976> them<00:07:39.585> happened<00:07:39.937> yesterday,<00:07:40.643> the<00:07:40.723> day<00:07:40.947> before<00:07:41.268> that,<00:07:41.669> or<00:07:41.749> the<00:07:41.845> day<00:07:42.005> before<00:07:42.326> that.
00:07:43.047 --> 00:07:48.902
And<00:07:43.111> so<00:07:43.672> you<00:07:43.833> were<00:07:44.009> lagging<00:07:44.730> the<00:07:44.811> facilities<00:07:45.356> couldn't<00:07:45.596> even<00:07:45.837> get<00:07:45.997> their<00:07:46.174> hand<00:07:46.559> up<00:07:46.735> quick<00:07:46.976> enough<00:07:47.762> to<00:07:47.939> get<00:07:48.099> a<00:07:48.180> response.
00:07:49.383 --> 00:08:12.873
On<00:07:49.543> top<00:07:49.928> of<00:07:50.041> that,<00:07:50.811> because<00:07:51.244> of<00:07:51.389> the<00:07:51.533> incentive<00:07:52.014> structure<00:07:52.817> and<00:07:52.977> just<00:07:53.298> how<00:07:53.635> tough<00:07:53.940> it<00:07:54.100> was<00:07:54.437> to,<00:07:55.304> to<00:07:55.400> make<00:07:55.962> these<00:07:56.202> connections<00:07:56.828> happen,<00:07:57.566> there<00:07:57.646> was<00:07:57.807> just<00:07:57.967> so<00:07:58.112> much<00:07:58.352> more<00:07:58.529> revenue<00:07:58.994> at<00:07:59.106> stake<00:07:59.556> on<00:07:59.636> the<00:07:59.732> longer-term<00:08:00.310> needs<00:08:01.337> that,<00:08:02.059> that<00:08:02.219> the<00:08:02.444> team<00:08:02.781> dynamic,<00:08:03.567> you<00:08:03.599> know,<00:08:03.808> we<00:08:03.904> didn't<00:08:04.305> fill<00:08:05.653> more<00:08:06.070> than<00:08:07.017> 15<00:08:07.594> basis<00:08:08.060> points<00:08:08.782> of,<00:08:09.343> of<00:08:09.504> a,<00:08:09.921> of<00:08:10.017> a<00:08:10.146> percent<00:08:10.643> on,<00:08:11.028> on<00:08:11.124> all<00:08:11.349> of<00:08:11.445> those<00:08:11.590> shifts<00:08:11.927> that<00:08:12.071> we<00:08:12.167> saw<00:08:12.408> that<00:08:12.729> year.

00:08:31.113 --> 00:08:36.171

All<00:08:46.846> of<00:08:46.926> that<00:08:47.168> felt<00:08:47.556> pretty,<00:08:50.395> pretty<00:08:50.960> acceptable<00:08:51.847> from<00:08:52.090> a,<00:08:52.396> from<00:08:53.041> a<00:08:53.138> perspective<00:08:53.703> of<00:08:53.864> risk.

Like,<00:08:54.655> this<00:08:54.832> is<00:08:54.929> something<00:08:55.397> we<00:08:55.558> could<00:08:55.800> throw<00:08:55.946> money<00:08:56.268> at.
00:08:56.511 --> 00:09:03.984
And<00:08:57.172> I<00:08:57.189> mean,<00:08:57.415> heck,<00:08:57.657> if<00:08:57.737> you<00:08:57.883> can<00:08:58.044> solve<00:08:58.383> 5%<00:08:59.190> of<00:08:59.335> the<00:08:59.368> needs,<00:08:59.820> you're<00:08:59.981> doing,<00:09:00.481> you<00:09:00.562> know,<00:09:01.192> amply<00:09:01.676> better<00:09:02.015> than<00:09:02.257> what<00:09:02.564> the,<00:09:02.822> what<00:09:02.983> the<00:09:03.145> agency<00:09:03.629> could<00:09:03.855> do.
00:09:04.678 --> 00:09:09.103
And<00:09:04.840> that<00:09:05.050> curiosity<00:09:05.849> then<00:09:06.104> led<00:09:06.444> to<00:09:07.096> All<00:09:07.128> right,<00:09:07.337> well,<00:09:07.658> this,<00:09:07.834> I<00:09:07.899> mean,<00:09:08.075> this<00:09:08.156> seems<00:09:08.493> easy<00:09:08.717> enough.
00:09:09.601 --> 00:09:11.286
Let's<00:09:09.825> pump<00:09:10.548> out<00:09:10.644> the<00:09:10.740> software.
00:09:11.993 --> 00:09:15.798
I'm<00:09:12.892> a<00:09:12.908> millennial<00:09:13.679> at<00:09:13.775> heart<00:09:14.963> and<00:09:15.220> by<00:09:15.525> age.
00:09:15.878 --> 00:09:25.447
And<00:09:16.023> so<00:09:17.307> I<00:09:17.388> think<00:09:17.612> the<00:09:17.709> other<00:09:18.014> aspect<00:09:18.511> of<00:09:18.656> this<00:09:18.913> was<00:09:19.154> just<00:09:19.475> that<00:09:20.181> I<00:09:20.262> had<00:09:20.438> been<00:09:20.679> the<00:09:20.823> benefactor<00:09:21.867> of<00:09:22.285> a<00:09:22.365> number<00:09:22.911> of<00:09:23.087> marketplaces<00:09:24.516> as<00:09:24.629> a<00:09:24.757> consumer.
00:09:26.122 --> 00:09:29.702
I<00:09:26.459> think<00:09:26.700> economically,<00:09:27.567> it's<00:09:27.679> an<00:09:27.760> incredibly<00:09:28.627> pure<00:09:28.948> business<00:09:29.429> model.
00:09:29.815 --> 00:09:33.122
I<00:09:29.895> don't,<00:09:30.537> there's<00:09:31.195> nothing<00:09:31.517> special<00:09:31.998> about<00:09:32.319> my<00:09:32.480> beliefs<00:09:32.962> there.
00:09:33.202 --> 00:09:38.533
I<00:09:33.347> just<00:09:33.604> think<00:09:33.780> it's<00:09:34.150> efficient<00:09:34.952> and<00:09:35.290> one<00:09:35.450> of<00:09:35.611> the<00:09:35.771> greatest<00:09:36.333> illustrations<00:09:37.136> of<00:09:37.281> the<00:09:37.377> capacity<00:09:38.003> of<00:09:38.099> the<00:09:38.244> internet.
00:09:39.063 --> 00:09:40.203
To<00:09:39.223> go<00:09:39.384> to<00:09:39.528> work<00:09:39.785> for<00:09:40.106> us.
00:09:40.412 --> 00:09:44.056
And<00:09:41.070> I<00:09:41.375> loved<00:09:41.712> the<00:09:41.937> prospect<00:09:42.499> of<00:09:42.675> what<00:09:42.836> marketplaces<00:09:43.639> could<00:09:43.864> do.
00:09:44.201 --> 00:09:51.475
And<00:09:44.763> shortly<00:09:45.228> after<00:09:45.566> we<00:09:45.710> started<00:09:46.272> building,<00:09:46.930> I<00:09:47.155> really<00:09:47.573> got<00:09:47.814> the<00:09:47.958> idea<00:09:48.472> that,<00:09:49.162> you<00:09:49.194> know,<00:09:49.259> we<00:09:49.419> have<00:09:49.724> access<00:09:50.206> to<00:09:50.447> both<00:09:50.640> sides<00:09:51.105> of<00:09:51.266> this.
00:09:52.229 --> 00:10:05.107
There's<00:09:52.486> a<00:09:52.631> really<00:09:52.871> good<00:09:53.112> chance<00:09:53.514> that<00:09:53.658> we<00:09:53.755> could<00:09:53.915> build<00:09:54.092> a<00:09:54.220> marketplace<00:09:54.862> product<00:09:55.264> here<00:09:55.826> and<00:09:56.083> not<00:09:56.388> have<00:09:56.645> to<00:09:56.805> be<00:09:57.592> incredibly<00:09:58.812> capital<00:09:59.294> intensive<00:10:00.675> if<00:10:00.900> we—<00:10:01.317> if<00:10:01.783> I<00:10:01.943> learned<00:10:02.248> from<00:10:02.425> the<00:10:02.570> agency<00:10:03.067> and<00:10:03.132> then<00:10:03.308> carved<00:10:03.613> it<00:10:03.774> out<00:10:03.950> and<00:10:04.432> and<00:10:04.513> grew<00:10:04.753> from<00:10:04.978> there.
00:10:06.279 --> 00:10:14.148
It<00:10:06.343> was<00:10:07.227> a<00:10:07.403> really<00:10:07.885> wild<00:10:08.270> era<00:10:08.768> and<00:10:08.849> then<00:10:09.330> only<00:10:09.651> compounded<00:10:10.599> as<00:10:11.241> we<00:10:11.418> turned<00:10:11.739> the<00:10:11.884> corner<00:10:12.366> into<00:10:13.731> COVID.
00:10:14.389 --> 00:10:18.099
We<00:10:14.534> got<00:10:14.710> the<00:10:14.855> app<00:10:15.834> live<00:10:16.316> March<00:10:16.702> 3rd,<00:10:17.440> 2020.
00:10:18.629 --> 00:10:19.239
Well,<00:10:18.966> in<00:10:19.110> the<00:10:19.143> App<00:10:19.175> Store.
00:10:19.319 --> 00:10:27.333
Perfect<00:10:19.592> timing,<00:10:20.331> 'cause<00:10:20.893> I<00:10:21.054> mean,<00:10:21.840> you<00:10:21.921> know,<00:10:22.097> perfect<00:10:22.563> and<00:10:22.884> imperfect<00:10:23.527> and<00:10:23.687> awful<00:10:24.025> timing<00:10:24.426> at<00:10:24.506> the<00:10:24.683> same<00:10:24.908> time,<00:10:25.052> you<00:10:25.149> know,<00:10:25.309> like,<00:10:26.112> which<00:10:26.674> is<00:10:26.755> kind<00:10:26.931> of<00:10:26.996> crazy.
00:10:27.381 --> 00:10:31.332
But<00:10:27.542> March<00:10:28.039> 2020<00:10:28.682> is<00:10:28.826> when<00:10:29.244> COVID<00:10:29.806> became<00:10:30.368> real<00:10:30.769> for<00:10:30.930> everybody.
00:10:31.412 --> 00:10:33.676
Shutdowns<00:10:31.990> and<00:10:32.118> all<00:10:32.295> that<00:10:32.713> type<00:10:32.873> of<00:10:32.937> stuff<00:10:33.114> started<00:10:33.403> to<00:10:33.500> come.
00:10:34.206 --> 00:10:40.050
And<00:10:34.447> there<00:10:34.607> was<00:10:34.768> a<00:10:34.848> crisis,<00:10:35.362> if<00:10:35.490> not<00:10:35.651> still<00:10:35.908> a<00:10:35.988> crisis,<00:10:36.775> of<00:10:37.288> nursing<00:10:38.557> shortages<00:10:39.279> in<00:10:39.359> hospitals.
00:10:40.242 --> 00:10:41.543
And<00:10:40.724> like,<00:10:40.884> tell<00:10:40.997> me<00:10:41.189> about<00:10:41.430> that.
00:10:41.607 --> 00:10:42.426
Like,<00:10:41.767> what<00:10:41.912> was<00:10:42.072> that<00:10:42.233> like?
00:10:42.474 --> 00:10:46.921
You<00:10:42.570> put<00:10:42.811> this<00:10:43.116> out<00:10:43.999> 3rd<00:10:44.320> of<00:10:44.496> March,<00:10:45.540> which<00:10:45.684> again,<00:10:45.925> you<00:10:46.005> must<00:10:46.182> have<00:10:46.262> been<00:10:46.423> like,<00:10:46.664> what?
00:10:47.049 --> 00:10:48.831
How<00:10:47.161> did<00:10:47.386> we<00:10:47.611> time<00:10:47.868> that<00:10:48.044> so<00:10:48.333> perfectly?
00:10:49.874 --> 00:10:57.741
You<00:10:49.955> know,<00:10:50.436> it's<00:10:51.062> often,<00:10:52.186> as<00:10:52.347> is<00:10:52.507> often<00:10:52.844> the<00:10:53.005> case,<00:10:53.390> you<00:10:53.486> don't,<00:10:54.610> you<00:10:54.690> don't<00:10:55.012> really<00:10:55.317> get<00:10:55.493> the<00:10:55.638> chance<00:10:55.911> to<00:10:56.055> connect<00:10:56.456> the<00:10:56.601> dots<00:10:56.938> looking<00:10:57.259> forward.
00:10:57.965 --> 00:11:00.582
So<00:10:58.158> much<00:10:58.463> of<00:10:58.624> it<00:10:58.768> is<00:10:59.490> as<00:10:59.667> we<00:10:59.828> look<00:11:00.068> back<00:11:00.389> now.
00:11:01.658 --> 00:11:08.496
Believe<00:11:01.931> it<00:11:02.011> or<00:11:02.091> not,<00:11:02.460> there<00:11:02.621> was<00:11:02.797> a<00:11:02.942> period<00:11:03.295> of<00:11:03.423> about<00:11:03.744> 4<00:11:04.082> weeks<00:11:04.483> where<00:11:05.270> I<00:11:05.286> actually<00:11:05.767> thought<00:11:06.168> we<00:11:06.393> couldn't<00:11:06.618> have<00:11:06.730> done<00:11:06.955> this<00:11:07.132> at<00:11:07.212> a<00:11:07.372> worse<00:11:07.693> period<00:11:08.031> of<00:11:08.159> time.
00:11:09.058 --> 00:11:14.291
You<00:11:09.138> were<00:11:09.218> getting<00:11:09.620> really<00:11:09.925> mixed<00:11:10.262> signals<00:11:11.370> in<00:11:11.466> the<00:11:11.546> media<00:11:12.188> about<00:11:12.895> what<00:11:13.071> COVID<00:11:13.537> was<00:11:13.713> going<00:11:14.034> to<00:11:14.195> be.
00:11:14.660 --> 00:11:18.176
New<00:11:14.821> York<00:11:15.158> was<00:11:15.383> underwater<00:11:16.041> by<00:11:16.346> the<00:11:16.442> time<00:11:16.763> we'd<00:11:17.004> been<00:11:17.165> out<00:11:17.405> for<00:11:17.566> 10<00:11:17.807> days.
00:11:18.770 --> 00:11:31.990
But<00:11:19.556> you're<00:11:19.813> talking<00:11:20.279> about<00:11:21.884> offering<00:11:22.285> a<00:11:22.398> digital<00:11:22.799> solution<00:11:23.666> that<00:11:23.891> is<00:11:24.083> new<00:11:24.854> to<00:11:25.030> an<00:11:25.255> audience<00:11:25.833> that<00:11:25.977> is<00:11:26.154> traditionally<00:11:27.181> and<00:11:27.358> historically<00:11:28.708> very<00:11:29.048> slow<00:11:29.533> to<00:11:29.694> adopt<00:11:30.487> operational<00:11:31.150> tech,<00:11:31.861> right?
00:11:32.039 --> 00:11:39.121
If<00:11:32.120> you're<00:11:32.281> throwing,<00:11:33.187> if<00:11:33.316> you're<00:11:33.413> throwing<00:11:33.817> money<00:11:34.060> at<00:11:34.205> cancer<00:11:34.868> to<00:11:34.949> solve<00:11:35.272> that<00:11:35.580> problem<00:11:36.065> clinically,<00:11:36.647> there's<00:11:36.954> all<00:11:37.132> kinds<00:11:37.471> of<00:11:37.601> opportunities<00:11:38.183> to<00:11:38.344> push<00:11:38.587> the<00:11:38.668> boundaries.
00:11:39.234 --> 00:11:47.399
But<00:11:40.511> operational<00:11:41.174> sickness<00:11:41.740> and<00:11:41.885> logistical<00:11:42.468> sickness,<00:11:43.502> they<00:11:43.599> solve<00:11:44.149> in<00:11:44.246> a<00:11:44.262> much<00:11:44.586> different<00:11:45.136> capacity<00:11:46.025> and<00:11:46.494> had<00:11:46.817> historically.
00:11:47.480 --> 00:12:11.190
And<00:11:47.610> so<00:11:48.349> I<00:11:48.446> was<00:11:48.687> really,<00:11:50.441> I<00:11:50.762> was<00:11:50.939> really<00:11:51.261> worried<00:11:51.744> that<00:11:52.966> this<00:11:53.175> was<00:11:53.352> going<00:11:53.465> to<00:11:53.594> go<00:11:53.996> belly<00:11:54.382> up<00:11:54.703> because<00:11:55.502> What<00:11:55.807> you<00:11:56.048> would<00:11:56.449> assume<00:11:57.268> they<00:11:57.509> would<00:11:57.830> trust<00:11:58.408> in<00:11:58.553> that,<00:11:58.938> what<00:11:59.099> the<00:11:59.259> industry<00:11:59.677> would<00:11:59.837> trust<00:12:00.158> in<00:12:00.303> that<00:12:00.480> window,<00:12:01.507> is<00:12:01.748> to<00:12:01.844> go<00:12:02.085> back<00:12:02.342> to<00:12:02.422> solutions<00:12:03.049> that<00:12:03.193> had<00:12:03.354> already<00:12:03.771> proven<00:12:04.157> out<00:12:04.478> well,<00:12:04.815> which<00:12:05.056> meant<00:12:05.698> trusting<00:12:06.164> agencies<00:12:06.967> to<00:12:07.143> get<00:12:07.304> them<00:12:07.545> through<00:12:08.010> this<00:12:08.267> 100-year<00:12:09.953> apocalyptic<00:12:10.740> storm.
00:12:11.238 --> 00:12:23.104
And,<00:12:11.944> um,<00:12:12.587> what,<00:12:12.988> what<00:12:13.149> ended<00:12:13.405> up<00:12:13.566> happening<00:12:14.192> is<00:12:14.369> that<00:12:15.156> in<00:12:15.252> those<00:12:15.573> first<00:12:15.894> 6<00:12:16.360> weeks,<00:12:16.617> so<00:12:17.082> into<00:12:17.275> the<00:12:17.355> middle<00:12:17.677> of<00:12:17.821> April,<00:12:18.849> you<00:12:18.945> start<00:12:19.587> to<00:12:19.812> get<00:12:20.053> dynamics<00:12:20.695> in<00:12:20.792> the<00:12:20.872> media<00:12:21.354> that<00:12:21.659> this<00:12:21.835> was<00:12:22.060> going<00:12:22.381> to<00:12:22.542> be<00:12:22.879> bad.
00:12:23.200 --> 00:12:31.142
There<00:12:23.281> was<00:12:23.425> a<00:12:23.505> general<00:12:23.907> consensus<00:12:24.565> that<00:12:24.742> this<00:12:24.950> was<00:12:25.047> going<00:12:25.272> to<00:12:25.432> be<00:12:25.673> bigger<00:12:25.994> than<00:12:26.572> than<00:12:26.796> what<00:12:26.973> had<00:12:27.294> originally<00:12:27.935> been<00:12:28.336> expected,<00:12:29.074> and<00:12:29.555> Stanford<00:12:30.084> had<00:12:30.260> published<00:12:30.661> their<00:12:30.821> data.
00:12:31.286 --> 00:12:57.120
You<00:12:31.367> were<00:12:31.447> starting<00:12:31.864> to<00:12:31.944> get<00:12:33.066> refute,<00:12:33.788> you<00:12:33.820> know,<00:12:34.013> refuting<00:12:34.574> evidence<00:12:34.991> there,<00:12:36.819> and<00:12:37.059> in<00:12:37.236> that<00:12:38.198> window,<00:12:39.320> we<00:12:39.497> started<00:12:40.026> to<00:12:40.122> see<00:12:40.603> cases<00:12:41.325> in<00:12:41.485> Utah<00:12:42.271> on<00:12:42.367> the<00:12:42.447> home<00:12:42.688> front,<00:12:43.009> and<00:12:43.153> we<00:12:43.233> had<00:12:43.393> had<00:12:43.570> a<00:12:43.650> conversation<00:12:44.853> with<00:12:44.949> a<00:12:45.013> couple<00:12:45.270> of<00:12:45.334> folks<00:12:45.815> during<00:12:46.055> the<00:12:46.136> legislative<00:12:46.793> session<00:12:47.563> on<00:12:47.659> the<00:12:47.803> Hill,<00:12:48.765> and<00:12:49.262> then<00:12:49.487> some<00:12:50.064> folks<00:12:50.465> in<00:12:50.545> a<00:12:51.026> healthcare<00:12:51.427> association<00:12:52.373> here<00:12:52.470> in<00:12:52.614> the<00:12:52.646> state,<00:12:53.993> just<00:12:54.298> asking<00:12:54.715> them<00:12:55.019> if<00:12:55.132> there<00:12:55.260> was<00:12:55.501> anything<00:12:55.982> we<00:12:56.078> could<00:12:56.318> do<00:12:56.719> to<00:12:56.944> help.
00:12:58.387 --> 00:13:07.272
And<00:12:59.366> that<00:12:59.606> dynamic<00:13:00.729> led<00:13:01.130> to<00:13:01.691> a<00:13:01.771> bunch<00:13:02.092> of<00:13:02.172> phone<00:13:02.573> calls<00:13:03.118> that<00:13:03.359> were<00:13:04.161> more<00:13:04.722> or<00:13:05.043> less<00:13:06.663> Hail<00:13:06.903> Marys.
00:13:07.625 --> 00:13:17.696
I<00:13:07.641> mean,<00:13:08.186> people<00:13:08.571> that<00:13:08.747> were<00:13:08.828> saying,<00:13:09.373> look,<00:13:09.549> we've<00:13:10.752> gotta<00:13:10.913> staff<00:13:11.570> 22<00:13:12.677> of<00:13:12.837> 26<00:13:13.559> nurses<00:13:14.104> tomorrow,<00:13:14.986> or<00:13:16.044> we<00:13:16.205> go<00:13:16.445> belly<00:13:16.830> up<00:13:17.007> as<00:13:17.151> an<00:13:17.247> entity.
00:13:17.953 --> 00:13:18.739
What<00:13:18.129> can<00:13:18.354> you<00:13:18.530> do?
00:13:19.557 --> 00:13:29.528
And<00:13:20.681> in<00:13:20.842> an<00:13:22.207> early<00:13:22.480> adopter<00:13:23.025> sense,<00:13:23.668> there's<00:13:24.615> often<00:13:25.996> a<00:13:26.060> few<00:13:28.003> things<00:13:28.404> that<00:13:28.710> can<00:13:28.950> exist.
00:13:29.914 --> 00:13:44.204
You<00:13:30.074> get<00:13:30.395> people<00:13:30.877> who<00:13:31.134> are<00:13:31.359> early<00:13:31.616> adopters<00:13:32.242> who<00:13:32.419> are<00:13:33.767> technically<00:13:34.506> proficient,<00:13:35.630> right,<00:13:36.192> or<00:13:36.433> digital<00:13:36.850> natives,<00:13:38.600> bleeding<00:13:39.066> edge,<00:13:40.190> or<00:13:40.929> you<00:13:41.089> get<00:13:41.410> the<00:13:41.555> other<00:13:41.812> end<00:13:41.972> of<00:13:42.053> the<00:13:42.133> spectrum,<00:13:42.615> which<00:13:42.855> is<00:13:43.016> the<00:13:43.112> technically<00:13:43.722> desperate.
00:13:44.686 --> 00:13:47.205
And<00:13:45.344> that<00:13:45.584> certainly<00:13:46.146> proved<00:13:46.467> to<00:13:46.628> be<00:13:46.788> the<00:13:46.932> case.
00:13:47.269 --> 00:13:54.956
And<00:13:47.414> so<00:13:47.992> the<00:13:48.088> method<00:13:48.698> of<00:13:48.858> how<00:13:49.275> we<00:13:49.500> were<00:13:49.661> delivering<00:13:50.222> these<00:13:50.479> things,<00:13:50.736> there<00:13:50.880> wasn't<00:13:51.201> ever<00:13:51.442> conversations<00:13:52.260> about<00:13:53.432> whether<00:13:53.849> or<00:13:53.945> not<00:13:54.234> it<00:13:54.475> worked.
00:13:55.069 --> 00:13:57.973
It<00:13:55.197> was<00:13:55.374> just<00:13:55.679> literally,<00:13:56.176> can<00:13:56.417> you<00:13:56.577> throw<00:13:56.978> mud<00:13:57.203> against<00:13:57.540> this<00:13:57.845> wall?
00:13:58.968 --> 00:14:15.835
And<00:13:59.049> then<00:13:59.209> what<00:13:59.386> would<00:13:59.546> happen<00:14:00.011> is,<00:14:00.172> as<00:14:00.348> we<00:14:00.429> solved<00:14:01.071> for<00:14:01.231> those<00:14:01.568> needs<00:14:02.756> day<00:14:03.060> in<00:14:03.221> and<00:14:03.317> day<00:14:03.622> out<00:14:03.879> for<00:14:04.184> weeks<00:14:04.762> at<00:14:04.858> a<00:14:04.922> time,<00:14:06.687> those,<00:14:07.730> those<00:14:08.051> conversations<00:14:08.934> would<00:14:09.159> then<00:14:09.415> blossom<00:14:09.977> into<00:14:10.683> a<00:14:10.715> very<00:14:12.063> a<00:14:12.079> very<00:14:12.529> open,<00:14:13.427> hey,<00:14:13.732> remind<00:14:14.454> us<00:14:14.711> how<00:14:15.016> you're<00:14:15.193> doing<00:14:15.514> this.
00:14:16.396 --> 00:14:29.764
And<00:14:16.493> so<00:14:17.102> you<00:14:17.263> got<00:14:17.455> to<00:14:17.696> demonstrate<00:14:18.948> and<00:14:19.189> then<00:14:19.670> educate,<00:14:20.328> which<00:14:20.553> isn't<00:14:21.516> often<00:14:21.853> the<00:14:21.997> case<00:14:22.639> outside<00:14:23.522> of<00:14:25.062> a<00:14:25.127> moment<00:14:25.688> in<00:14:25.865> which,<00:14:26.651> you<00:14:26.683> know,<00:14:27.149> the<00:14:27.309> weather<00:14:27.630> report<00:14:28.272> is<00:14:28.497> that<00:14:28.657> there<00:14:28.705> are<00:14:28.978> big<00:14:29.155> waves<00:14:29.540> coming.
00:14:30.519 --> 00:14:33.343
Just<00:14:30.759> the<00:14:30.840> timing<00:14:31.385> of<00:14:31.498> that<00:14:31.883> was<00:14:31.963> certainly<00:14:32.605> providential.
00:14:33.407 --> 00:14:39.607
And<00:14:34.114> half<00:14:34.451> of<00:14:35.157> that<00:14:35.478> is<00:14:35.638> like,<00:14:36.280> is<00:14:36.457> the<00:14:36.601> moment,<00:14:37.082> the<00:14:37.259> luck<00:14:37.596> or<00:14:37.756> the,<00:14:38.383> the<00:14:38.528> grace<00:14:38.931> of<00:14:39.092> the<00:14:39.188> moment.
00:14:39.671 --> 00:14:44.035
And<00:14:40.396> the<00:14:40.557> other<00:14:40.798> half<00:14:41.056> of<00:14:41.265> it<00:14:41.362> is<00:14:41.587> how<00:14:41.764> quickly<00:14:42.167> you<00:14:42.312> roll<00:14:42.553> up<00:14:42.650> your<00:14:42.795> sleeves<00:14:43.294> and<00:14:43.455> grab<00:14:43.713> a<00:14:43.761> shovel.
00:14:45.067 --> 00:14:45.115
Yeah.
00:14:45.164 --> 00:14:48.529
Like<00:14:45.261> it's<00:14:46.054> a—<00:14:46.215> and<00:14:46.523> it<00:14:46.604> was—<00:14:47.348> there<00:14:47.429> was<00:14:47.655> a<00:14:47.672> lot<00:14:47.979> of<00:14:48.076> shoveling.
00:14:49.112 --> 00:14:49.726
Oh,<00:14:49.516> sure.
00:14:50.972 --> 00:14:53.464
And<00:14:51.086> so<00:14:51.474> how<00:14:51.636> fast<00:14:51.959> has<00:14:52.121> this<00:14:52.283> company<00:14:52.607> grown<00:14:52.946> since<00:14:53.254> then?
00:14:55.046 --> 00:14:56.566
It's<00:14:55.709> a<00:14:55.790> great<00:14:56.097> question.
00:14:56.679 --> 00:15:05.203
So<00:14:57.487> we<00:14:57.649> keep<00:14:57.956> track<00:14:58.377> of,<00:14:59.023> you<00:14:59.088> know,<00:14:59.185> completed<00:14:59.734> shift<00:15:00.139> hours<00:15:01.513> as<00:15:01.852> the<00:15:02.321> nurse<00:15:02.579> goes<00:15:02.838> to<00:15:03.048> work,<00:15:03.452> the<00:15:03.533> manager<00:15:04.099> gets<00:15:04.358> the<00:15:04.422> help<00:15:04.665> that<00:15:04.730> they<00:15:04.848> need.
00:15:05.271 --> 00:15:06.471
That's<00:15:06.184> the<00:15:06.285> metric.
00:15:08.693 --> 00:15:20.248
We've,<00:15:08.822> we<00:15:08.935> had<00:15:09.338> from<00:15:09.563> 2020<00:15:12.560> to<00:15:12.657> the<00:15:12.737> middle<00:15:13.752> of<00:15:13.994> '23,<00:15:15.460> we<00:15:15.846> averaged<00:15:17.244> 67%<00:15:19.220> month<00:15:19.461> over<00:15:19.638> month<00:15:19.959> growth.
00:15:20.521 --> 00:15:20.602
Wow.
00:15:21.148 --> 00:15:23.461
I<00:15:21.325> mean,<00:15:22.353> just<00:15:22.610> a<00:15:22.835> massive.
00:15:23.638 --> 00:15:30.440
And<00:15:23.734> so<00:15:23.959> you<00:15:24.056> go,<00:15:24.618> you<00:15:24.698> know,<00:15:24.843> you<00:15:24.923> start<00:15:25.325> as<00:15:25.470> this<00:15:25.663> pirate<00:15:26.067> ship,<00:15:27.600> you're<00:15:27.906> on<00:15:28.084> the<00:15:28.229> way,<00:15:28.633> you<00:15:28.794> want<00:15:28.971> to<00:15:29.133> become<00:15:29.552> a<00:15:29.682> Royal<00:15:30.020> Navy.
00:15:31.069 --> 00:15:34.765
And<00:15:31.215> inevitably<00:15:31.941> that<00:15:32.118> means<00:15:32.425> you<00:15:32.586> end<00:15:32.828> up<00:15:32.990> in<00:15:33.087> this<00:15:33.329> corporate<00:15:33.797> version<00:15:34.297> of<00:15:34.523> puberty.
00:15:35.142 --> 00:15:36.849
Which<00:15:35.319> is<00:15:35.464> just<00:15:35.786> being<00:15:36.092> a<00:15:36.172> crappy<00:15:36.511> Navy.
00:15:37.622 --> 00:15:43.613
And<00:15:38.040> so<00:15:38.669> we<00:15:38.846> went<00:15:39.168> from<00:15:39.876> pirate<00:15:40.215> ship<00:15:41.422> to<00:15:41.583> crappy<00:15:41.986> Navy<00:15:42.775> really<00:15:43.033> fast.
00:15:43.822 --> 00:15:48.598
And<00:15:44.644> there<00:15:44.789> have<00:15:45.031> been<00:15:45.370> pros<00:15:45.628> and<00:15:45.838> cons<00:15:46.241> with<00:15:46.419> that,<00:15:47.161> certainly,<00:15:47.710> that<00:15:47.791> have<00:15:47.952> come<00:15:48.130> out<00:15:48.356> of<00:15:48.452> it.
00:15:49.792 --> 00:15:58.850
Lots<00:15:50.147> and<00:15:50.292> lots<00:15:50.615> of<00:15:50.776> learnings<00:15:51.486> nearly<00:15:52.551> every<00:15:52.874> week<00:15:53.197> that<00:15:53.423> we've<00:15:53.600> been<00:15:53.730> around,<00:15:54.985> but<00:15:55.214> one<00:15:55.377> of<00:15:55.980> the<00:15:56.110> most<00:15:56.388> exhilarating<00:15:57.823> rides<00:15:58.165> of<00:15:58.312> my<00:15:58.491> career.
00:16:00.519 --> 00:16:14.356
And<00:16:00.752> as<00:16:00.935> it<00:16:01.018> stands<00:16:01.584> today,<00:16:03.490> By<00:16:03.603> market<00:16:04.151> penetration,<00:16:05.522> from<00:16:05.700> that<00:16:06.006> perspective,<00:16:06.732> we<00:16:06.958> estimate<00:16:07.441> that<00:16:07.538> we're<00:16:07.780> less<00:16:08.103> than<00:16:08.409> 1.5%<00:16:09.151> penetrated<00:16:09.861> today,<00:16:10.950> which<00:16:11.046> means<00:16:11.448> that<00:16:11.608> there's<00:16:12.749> just<00:16:13.055> tons<00:16:13.488> of<00:16:13.633> room<00:16:13.955> to<00:16:14.115> go.
00:16:14.983 --> 00:16:16.044
Yeah,<00:16:15.160> that<00:16:15.320> is<00:16:15.465> incredible.
00:16:16.686 --> 00:16:18.743
What<00:16:16.799> does<00:16:16.992> a<00:16:17.088> typical<00:16:17.490> day<00:16:17.651> look<00:16:17.811> like<00:16:17.972> for<00:16:18.197> you,<00:16:18.454> Curtis?
00:16:18.840 --> 00:16:19.900
Like,<00:16:19.000> how<00:16:19.097> do<00:16:19.161> you<00:16:19.257> spend<00:16:19.643> your<00:16:19.804> day?
00:16:21.362 --> 00:16:25.644
Yeah,<00:16:22.392> it<00:16:22.473> has<00:16:22.714> varied<00:16:23.793> from<00:16:24.098> period<00:16:24.517> to<00:16:24.726> period,<00:16:25.467> right?
00:16:25.708 --> 00:16:31.036
I<00:16:25.724> mean,<00:16:25.869> you,<00:16:26.256> as<00:16:26.529> a<00:16:26.594> startup<00:16:27.061> founder,<00:16:27.415> you<00:16:27.560> just<00:16:28.669> You<00:16:28.765> take<00:16:29.007> the<00:16:29.168> beatings<00:16:29.651> in<00:16:29.812> every<00:16:30.053> way<00:16:30.295> that<00:16:30.456> you<00:16:30.601> can<00:16:30.778> get<00:16:30.923> them.
00:16:31.905 --> 00:16:36.237
Today<00:16:32.791> things<00:16:33.258> are<00:16:33.515> much<00:16:33.821> more<00:16:34.079> predictable<00:16:34.868> than<00:16:35.206> they<00:16:35.448> ever<00:16:35.754> have<00:16:36.060> been.
00:16:37.289 --> 00:16:44.391
Certainly,<00:16:38.260> certainly<00:16:38.680> still<00:16:39.020> some<00:16:39.311> room<00:16:40.622> to<00:16:40.751> move<00:16:41.123> there,<00:16:41.431> but<00:16:42.143> I<00:16:42.385> will<00:16:42.466> start<00:16:42.790> my<00:16:43.210> mornings<00:16:43.874> in<00:16:44.003> the<00:16:44.165> pool.
00:16:44.893 --> 00:16:46.715
I<00:16:45.120> swim<00:16:46.161> regularly.
00:16:48.057 --> 00:16:52.994
That<00:16:48.707> is<00:16:48.804> just<00:16:49.129> a<00:16:49.681> great<00:16:50.022> place<00:16:50.347> to<00:16:50.493> mentally<00:16:50.997> begin,<00:16:52.117> usually<00:16:52.686> early.
00:16:53.514 --> 00:16:57.974
My<00:16:53.741> wife<00:16:54.001> and<00:16:54.147> kids<00:16:54.553> are<00:16:56.034> will<00:16:56.740> wake<00:16:57.141> later<00:16:57.461> in<00:16:57.541> the<00:16:57.622> morning.
00:16:58.039 --> 00:17:03.026
And<00:16:58.119> so<00:16:58.584> I've<00:16:58.744> got<00:16:58.856> a<00:16:58.921> chance<00:16:59.321> to<00:16:59.482> be<00:16:59.642> alone,<00:17:00.685> anything<00:17:01.166> between<00:17:01.550> about<00:17:01.791> 5:00<00:17:02.288> and<00:17:02.368> 6:30.
00:17:03.715 --> 00:17:05.608
I'll<00:17:04.052> swim<00:17:04.774> and<00:17:04.854> then<00:17:05.175> come<00:17:05.399> home.
00:17:05.672 --> 00:17:13.465
I<00:17:05.880> usually<00:17:06.217> try<00:17:06.377> to<00:17:06.602> read,<00:17:07.564> study<00:17:08.302> some<00:17:08.606> sort<00:17:09.007> of<00:17:09.649> just<00:17:09.985> gathering,<00:17:11.493> educational,<00:17:12.936> religious.
00:17:14.460 --> 00:17:25.683
There's<00:17:14.700> lots<00:17:15.021> of,<00:17:15.261> lots<00:17:15.518> of<00:17:15.598> sources<00:17:16.079> there,<00:17:16.400> but<00:17:16.881> spend<00:17:17.186> some<00:17:17.362> time<00:17:17.843> pushing,<00:17:18.805> pushing<00:17:19.190> my<00:17:19.350> own<00:17:19.527> boundaries<00:17:20.489> and<00:17:20.633> understanding<00:17:22.015> and<00:17:22.160> then<00:17:22.904> I'll<00:17:24.116> get<00:17:24.277> ready<00:17:24.600> and<00:17:24.746> head<00:17:24.924> to<00:17:25.069> the<00:17:25.231> office.
00:17:27.509 --> 00:17:41.581
I<00:17:27.655> try<00:17:28.075> to<00:17:29.691> capitalize<00:17:30.639> on<00:17:31.843> intellectually<00:17:33.209> deep<00:17:33.611> meetings<00:17:34.575> between,<00:17:35.635> you<00:17:35.667> know,<00:17:35.780> between<00:17:36.117> 7:00<00:17:36.744> AM<00:17:36.920> and<00:17:37.001> about<00:17:37.306> 2:00<00:17:37.949> PM,<00:17:38.688> and<00:17:38.832> then<00:17:39.009> do<00:17:39.170> any<00:17:39.379> kind<00:17:39.573> of<00:17:39.735> communication<00:17:40.626> work<00:17:40.950> thereafter.
00:17:41.856 --> 00:17:44.383
I'm<00:17:42.423> a<00:17:42.488> big<00:17:42.731> believer<00:17:43.201> that<00:17:43.379> you<00:17:43.460> should<00:17:43.768> be<00:17:43.930> where<00:17:44.092> you<00:17:44.270> are.
00:17:45.468 --> 00:17:49.048
Email<00:17:46.051> is<00:17:46.213> the<00:17:46.359> greatest<00:17:46.861> threat<00:17:47.266> to<00:17:48.244> to<00:17:48.340> that<00:17:48.549> existence.
00:17:49.128 --> 00:17:53.434
And<00:17:49.208> so<00:17:49.835> I<00:17:49.931> will<00:17:50.156> usually<00:17:51.136> keep<00:17:51.522> email<00:17:51.940> to<00:17:52.261> afternoons<00:17:52.824> and<00:17:53.049> evenings.
00:17:53.772 --> 00:18:12.141
There<00:17:53.852> are<00:17:53.884> certainly<00:17:55.459> communication<00:17:56.439> threads<00:17:56.761> that<00:17:56.970> warrant<00:17:57.148> otherwise,<00:17:57.730> but,<00:17:58.944> and<00:17:59.090> then<00:17:59.834> when<00:17:59.996> we<00:18:00.239> clean<00:18:00.546> up<00:18:00.659> in<00:18:00.789> the<00:18:00.951> evening,<00:18:01.517> somewhere<00:18:01.938> between<00:18:02.650> 5:30<00:18:03.313> and<00:18:03.411> 7,<00:18:04.997> head<00:18:05.191> for<00:18:05.336> home,<00:18:07.652> take<00:18:07.814> care<00:18:07.975> of<00:18:08.136> kids<00:18:08.685> and<00:18:09.654> do<00:18:09.751> my<00:18:09.993> best<00:18:10.316> to<00:18:10.542> help<00:18:10.720> Stacy<00:18:11.463> around<00:18:11.753> the<00:18:11.834> house.
00:18:12.189 --> 00:18:29.824
And<00:18:12.318> then<00:18:12.900> when<00:18:13.045> everybody's<00:18:13.530> in<00:18:13.707> bed,<00:18:14.208> I'll<00:18:14.353> usually<00:18:14.821> pick<00:18:15.063> up<00:18:15.867> 8:30<00:18:16.525> to<00:18:17.327> 10:30<00:18:17.888> or<00:18:17.968> 11,<00:18:18.995> a<00:18:19.075> couple<00:18:19.332> extra<00:18:19.733> hours<00:18:20.279> of<00:18:20.856> Slack,<00:18:21.658> product<00:18:22.123> movement,<00:18:23.246> reviews,<00:18:24.385> anything<00:18:24.851> that<00:18:25.011> I<00:18:25.107> can<00:18:25.813> help<00:18:26.054> facilitate<00:18:26.712> for<00:18:26.856> the<00:18:26.952> team<00:18:27.995> to<00:18:28.156> just<00:18:28.380> hit<00:18:28.476> the<00:18:28.557> ground<00:18:28.877> running<00:18:29.198> on<00:18:29.279> the<00:18:29.423> next<00:18:29.680> day.
00:18:30.626 --> 00:18:32.375
How<00:18:30.819> is<00:18:31.268> AI<00:18:31.605> affecting<00:18:32.070> all<00:18:32.311> this?
00:18:32.439 --> 00:18:41.359
Because<00:18:32.952> you<00:18:32.984> started<00:18:33.450> like<00:18:33.690> in<00:18:33.754> the<00:18:33.835> middle<00:18:34.011> of<00:18:34.155> COVID<00:18:35.214> which<00:18:35.455> was<00:18:36.177> an<00:18:36.418> incredible<00:18:37.701> and<00:18:37.765> like<00:18:37.942> you<00:18:38.022> said,<00:18:38.503> maybe<00:18:38.744> even<00:18:38.968> providential<00:18:40.444> thing<00:18:40.749> for<00:18:40.893> the<00:18:40.990> company.
00:18:42.133 --> 00:18:49.395
But<00:18:43.241> now<00:18:43.498> AI,<00:18:43.820> and<00:18:43.868> it's<00:18:43.997> not<00:18:44.077> like<00:18:44.286> AI<00:18:44.462> wasn't<00:18:44.704> around<00:18:45.089> when<00:18:45.186> you<00:18:45.250> started<00:18:45.587> this<00:18:45.812> thing,<00:18:45.989> but<00:18:46.069> now<00:18:46.310> AI<00:18:46.567> is<00:18:46.712> kind<00:18:46.857> of<00:18:46.953> prevalent<00:18:48.720> in<00:18:48.865> the<00:18:48.945> mainstream.
00:18:49.444 --> 00:18:50.665
Every<00:18:49.668> company's<00:18:50.070> thinking<00:18:50.392> about<00:18:50.633> it.
00:18:50.729 --> 00:18:52.062
How<00:18:50.954> will<00:18:51.131> it<00:18:51.340> affect<00:18:51.649> Nursa?
00:18:53.869 --> 00:18:55.261
It's<00:18:54.015> a<00:18:54.079> great,<00:18:54.500> it's<00:18:54.597> a<00:18:54.662> great<00:18:54.905> question.
00:18:55.309 --> 00:18:57.931
I<00:18:55.390> think<00:18:55.633> it<00:18:55.730> affects,<00:18:56.668> it<00:18:56.766> will<00:18:57.008> affect<00:18:57.494> everyone.
00:18:58.448 --> 00:19:04.882
I'm<00:18:58.885> certainly<00:19:00.228> not<00:19:00.423> opposed<00:19:01.280> to<00:19:01.377> the<00:19:01.523> hype,<00:19:01.944> but<00:19:02.089> I<00:19:02.106> think<00:19:02.413> often<00:19:02.672> this<00:19:02.833> conversation<00:19:03.559> gets<00:19:03.946> overhyped<00:19:04.527> as<00:19:04.769> well.
00:19:05.091 --> 00:19:11.538
The<00:19:05.253> practical<00:19:05.801> realities<00:19:06.446> of<00:19:06.543> implementation<00:19:07.414> are<00:19:08.036> much<00:19:08.358> different<00:19:08.791> from,<00:19:09.097> I<00:19:09.177> think,<00:19:09.418> the,<00:19:10.205> the<00:19:10.301> vision<00:19:10.638> of<00:19:10.847> things<00:19:11.104> to<00:19:11.265> come.
00:19:11.666 --> 00:19:15.633
And<00:19:11.747> so<00:19:12.453> there<00:19:12.630> are<00:19:12.791> a,<00:19:13.112> there<00:19:13.272> are<00:19:13.433> a<00:19:13.513> few<00:19:13.818> ways<00:19:14.156> that<00:19:14.397> AI<00:19:14.718> helps<00:19:15.039> us<00:19:15.264> today.
00:19:16.388 --> 00:19:20.628
One<00:19:16.501> important<00:19:17.143> facet<00:19:17.593> of<00:19:17.753> Nursa<00:19:18.010> is<00:19:18.251> that<00:19:18.974> we<00:19:19.536> decouple<00:19:20.243> pricing.
00:19:21.046 --> 00:19:32.240
So<00:19:21.929> what,<00:19:22.652> what<00:19:22.764> a<00:19:22.893> clinician,<00:19:24.258> how<00:19:24.435> a<00:19:24.515> clinician's<00:19:25.157> value<00:19:25.704> gets<00:19:25.944> calculated<00:19:26.587> on<00:19:26.683> a<00:19:26.748> shift<00:19:27.486> and<00:19:27.647> what<00:19:27.872> the<00:19:27.904> facility's<00:19:28.771> cost<00:19:30.120> is<00:19:30.377> gets<00:19:30.618> separated<00:19:31.421> independently.
00:19:32.770 --> 00:19:35.981
Historically,<00:19:34.120> that's<00:19:34.473> been<00:19:35.420> much<00:19:35.676> different.
00:19:36.302 --> 00:19:38.806
It's<00:19:36.479> been<00:19:36.623> a<00:19:36.639> singular<00:19:37.265> relationship<00:19:38.004> with<00:19:38.245> the<00:19:38.405> job.
00:19:39.047 --> 00:19:40.749
What,<00:19:39.352> what<00:19:39.529> is<00:19:39.673> the<00:19:39.753> value<00:19:40.155> of<00:19:40.267> the<00:19:40.411> job?
00:19:40.797 --> 00:19:45.484
And<00:19:40.877> then<00:19:41.037> what<00:19:41.214> does<00:19:41.374> that<00:19:41.599> mean<00:19:41.856> for<00:19:42.000> the<00:19:42.097> clinician<00:19:42.803> and<00:19:42.899> what<00:19:43.060> does<00:19:43.220> it<00:19:43.381> mean<00:19:43.622> for<00:19:43.782> the<00:19:43.862> facility<00:19:44.601> in<00:19:44.729> a<00:19:44.745> cost<00:19:44.986> structure?
00:19:46.270 --> 00:19:54.392
We<00:19:46.752> leverage<00:19:48.180> a<00:19:48.196> number<00:19:48.678> of<00:19:49.063> machine<00:19:49.400> learning<00:19:49.785> models<00:19:50.604> to<00:19:50.748> facilitate<00:19:51.727> dynamic<00:19:52.353> pricing<00:19:53.092> at<00:19:53.252> the<00:19:53.397> point<00:19:53.750> of<00:19:53.894> the<00:19:53.974> shift.
00:19:54.456 --> 00:20:00.892
And<00:19:54.600> what,<00:19:55.018> what<00:19:55.162> our<00:19:55.339> commitment<00:19:55.820> is<00:19:55.981> to<00:19:56.125> facilities<00:19:56.767> in<00:19:56.864> this<00:19:57.104> is<00:19:57.265> that<00:19:57.891> you<00:19:58.051> will<00:19:58.228> not<00:19:58.469> pay<00:19:58.709> a<00:19:58.790> penny<00:19:59.046> more<00:19:59.351> than<00:19:59.512> it<00:19:59.592> takes<00:19:59.913> to<00:20:00.058> fill<00:20:00.379> the<00:20:00.459> shift.
00:20:01.037 --> 00:20:02.273
We're<00:20:01.278> pricing<00:20:01.743> it<00:20:01.904> to<00:20:02.016> fill.
00:20:03.028 --> 00:20:15.309
And<00:20:03.430> we<00:20:03.591> get,<00:20:04.234> we<00:20:04.394> can<00:20:04.652> get,<00:20:05.697> we<00:20:05.777> can<00:20:06.002> leverage<00:20:06.404> math<00:20:06.983> and<00:20:07.143> we<00:20:07.224> can<00:20:07.449> leverage<00:20:07.867> machines<00:20:08.815> to<00:20:08.912> help<00:20:09.217> drive<00:20:09.635> that<00:20:10.101> at<00:20:10.664> a<00:20:10.970> moment's<00:20:11.403> notice<00:20:12.512> in<00:20:12.850> real<00:20:13.091> time<00:20:13.428> in<00:20:13.557> the<00:20:13.653> market<00:20:14.537> for<00:20:14.762> either<00:20:14.939> side.
00:20:16.385 --> 00:20:20.660
We<00:20:16.546> leverage<00:20:17.028> it<00:20:18.057> from<00:20:18.298> a<00:20:18.876> content<00:20:19.439> perspective<00:20:20.242> as<00:20:20.467> well.
00:20:20.740 --> 00:20:29.577
So<00:20:21.287> generation<00:20:22.315> of<00:20:24.179> facilitating<00:20:24.902> better<00:20:25.207> understanding<00:20:25.866> about,<00:20:26.364> about<00:20:26.733> a<00:20:26.749> facility<00:20:27.697> or<00:20:27.794> about<00:20:28.131> a<00:20:28.260> particular<00:20:28.902> license<00:20:29.400> type.
00:20:29.908 --> 00:20:39.093
A<00:20:29.972> specialty<00:20:31.016> in<00:20:31.096> a<00:20:31.160> hospital,<00:20:31.738> for<00:20:31.899> instance,<00:20:33.007> and<00:20:33.344> have<00:20:34.131> done<00:20:34.548> great<00:20:34.870> work<00:20:35.175> there,<00:20:35.496> both<00:20:35.753> in<00:20:35.978> content<00:20:36.556> and<00:20:36.636> then<00:20:37.294> in<00:20:37.503> how<00:20:37.760> we're<00:20:37.921> driving<00:20:38.483> matchmaking.
00:20:40.249 --> 00:20:43.701
Those<00:20:40.988> are<00:20:41.116> 3<00:20:41.357> examples<00:20:42.079> of<00:20:42.320> real<00:20:42.642> uses<00:20:43.284> today.
00:20:44.504 --> 00:20:52.951
Where<00:20:44.729> I<00:20:44.890> think<00:20:45.130> this<00:20:45.371> can<00:20:45.709> be<00:20:45.869> applicable<00:20:46.592> in<00:20:46.736> the<00:20:46.817> future,<00:20:47.635> as<00:20:47.716> a<00:20:47.796> marketplace<00:20:48.358> company,<00:20:49.466> you<00:20:50.108> act<00:20:50.510> as<00:20:51.634> the<00:20:52.196> market<00:20:52.613> maker.
00:20:53.497 --> 00:20:57.495
In<00:20:53.641> some<00:20:53.994> sense,<00:20:55.327> we<00:20:55.504> sit<00:20:55.986> in<00:20:56.066> the<00:20:56.146> middle<00:20:56.612> as<00:20:56.804> a<00:20:56.933> bureaucrat.
00:20:58.218 --> 00:21:17.837
And<00:20:58.539> I<00:20:58.620> think<00:20:58.877> the<00:20:59.182> ways<00:20:59.519> in<00:20:59.744> which<00:21:00.082> we<00:21:00.307> can<00:21:01.207> drive<00:21:02.090> exceptional<00:21:02.813> experiences<00:21:04.356> for,<00:21:04.999> for<00:21:05.449> either<00:21:05.690> party<00:21:06.493> in<00:21:06.589> the<00:21:06.670> way<00:21:06.895> that<00:21:06.991> we<00:21:07.216> produce<00:21:07.554> the<00:21:07.634> market,<00:21:08.582> um,<00:21:08.775> can<00:21:08.984> have<00:21:09.466> really<00:21:09.803> longstanding<00:21:10.767> and,<00:21:11.490> um,<00:21:11.812> very<00:21:12.133> lucrative<00:21:13.017> impact<00:21:13.563> for,<00:21:13.981> for<00:21:14.286> either<00:21:14.704> in<00:21:14.848> the<00:21:14.929> way<00:21:15.106> that<00:21:15.347> they,<00:21:15.909> they<00:21:16.134> have<00:21:16.311> an,<00:21:16.552> an<00:21:16.648> experience<00:21:17.259> with<00:21:17.355> the<00:21:17.516> product.
00:21:18.705 --> 00:21:31.061
Uh,<00:21:19.508> it's<00:21:19.685> a,<00:21:20.103> it's<00:21:20.263> an<00:21:20.472> interesting<00:21:21.517> nut<00:21:21.758> to<00:21:21.918> crack,<00:21:22.320> and<00:21:22.400> I'd<00:21:22.497> have<00:21:22.738> to<00:21:22.883> imagine<00:21:23.702> that<00:21:23.863> you're<00:21:24.039> seeing<00:21:24.489> some<00:21:24.730> similar<00:21:25.534> conversations<00:21:26.498> or<00:21:26.594> at<00:21:26.674> least<00:21:27.381> having<00:21:27.719> to<00:21:27.960> rethink<00:21:29.325> some<00:21:29.582> aspects<00:21:30.129> of<00:21:30.273> your<00:21:30.514> own<00:21:30.595> approach.
00:21:31.237 --> 00:21:32.217
Absolutely.
00:21:32.298 --> 00:21:34.949
With<00:21:32.539> media<00:21:33.021> and<00:21:33.165> the<00:21:33.262> conversations<00:21:34.049> that<00:21:34.210> you're<00:21:34.370> having<00:21:34.692> here.
00:21:35.174 --> 00:21:36.170
Yeah,<00:21:35.575> absolutely.
00:21:36.314 --> 00:21:37.214
No<00:21:36.475> question<00:21:36.796> about<00:21:37.118> it.
00:21:37.343 --> 00:21:38.275
I<00:21:37.760> think<00:21:38.001> you're<00:21:38.162> right.
00:21:38.387 --> 00:21:40.620
Everybody<00:21:38.708> has<00:21:38.869> to<00:21:38.965> think<00:21:39.142> about<00:21:39.431> it<00:21:39.512> and<00:21:39.576> it's<00:21:39.689> going<00:21:39.785> to<00:21:39.833> affect<00:21:40.171> everyone.
00:21:41.215 --> 00:21:49.746
And<00:21:41.295> hopefully<00:21:42.034> it's<00:21:42.420> productive<00:21:43.063> and<00:21:45.216> additive<00:21:45.794> and<00:21:47.095> not—<00:21:47.401> in<00:21:47.497> my<00:21:47.706> experience,<00:21:48.124> and<00:21:48.188> it<00:21:48.268> sounds<00:21:48.509> like<00:21:48.622> in<00:21:48.702> yours,<00:21:48.991> it's<00:21:49.088> been<00:21:49.248> additive.
00:21:50.889 --> 00:21:53.224
Been<00:21:51.121> a,<00:21:51.535> you<00:21:51.568> know,<00:21:51.866> a<00:21:51.965> really<00:21:52.214> good<00:21:52.446> thing<00:21:52.628> for<00:21:52.793> the<00:21:52.876> company.
00:21:54.613 --> 00:21:59.760
Where<00:21:54.710> did<00:21:54.871> you<00:21:55.016> land<00:21:55.565> on<00:21:55.985> work<00:21:56.227> from<00:21:56.452> home,<00:21:57.437> in-office,<00:21:58.308> hybrid,<00:21:58.970> that<00:21:59.212> type<00:21:59.470> of<00:21:59.518> stuff?
00:21:59.841 --> 00:22:01.487
Where<00:21:59.921> did<00:22:00.083> you<00:22:00.244> land<00:22:00.502> on<00:22:00.664> that<00:22:00.906> kind<00:22:01.067> of<00:22:01.148> debate?
00:22:02.456 --> 00:22:04.467
It's<00:22:03.121> an<00:22:03.283> interesting<00:22:03.851> discussion.
00:22:04.889 --> 00:22:13.937
And<00:22:05.310> I<00:22:05.392> think<00:22:05.797> as<00:22:05.943> a<00:22:06.024> general<00:22:06.430> rule<00:22:06.608> of<00:22:06.835> thumb,<00:22:09.203> it<00:22:09.430> is<00:22:09.755> often<00:22:10.258> best<00:22:10.744> to<00:22:10.923> avoid<00:22:11.393> polarity<00:22:13.160> of<00:22:13.322> any<00:22:13.500> sort.
00:22:14.148 --> 00:22:37.861
And<00:22:14.229> so<00:22:15.283> when<00:22:15.607> we<00:22:17.253> When<00:22:17.493> we<00:22:17.654> started,<00:22:18.858> there's<00:22:19.644> a<00:22:19.821> period<00:22:20.366> where,<00:22:21.426> you<00:22:21.506> know,<00:22:21.907> hiring,<00:22:23.673> because<00:22:24.138> of<00:22:24.379> what<00:22:24.539> our<00:22:24.716> cash<00:22:25.181> situation<00:22:25.904> was<00:22:26.080> in<00:22:26.225> the<00:22:26.321> beginning,<00:22:27.926> we<00:22:28.070> did<00:22:28.247> not<00:22:28.568> have<00:22:28.873> the<00:22:28.969> luxury<00:22:29.386> of<00:22:29.515> going<00:22:29.836> out<00:22:30.028> to<00:22:30.157> compete<00:22:30.815> with<00:22:31.762> real<00:22:32.019> engineering<00:22:32.966> talent<00:22:34.009> from<00:22:34.185> the<00:22:34.330> coasts<00:22:35.774> in<00:22:35.871> 2018,<00:22:37.155> 2019.
00:22:38.503 --> 00:22:52.858
There<00:22:39.161> are<00:22:39.402> some<00:22:39.867> interesting<00:22:40.686> notes<00:22:41.071> that<00:22:41.167> emerge<00:22:41.633> from<00:22:41.809> that<00:22:41.986> about<00:22:42.612> about<00:22:42.854> a<00:22:42.870> third<00:22:43.193> of<00:22:43.273> our<00:22:43.499> team<00:22:43.886> today<00:22:45.258> is<00:22:45.597> in<00:22:46.065> Utah,<00:22:47.049> a<00:22:47.114> third<00:22:47.759> is<00:22:48.082> elsewhere<00:22:48.743> in<00:22:48.889> the<00:22:48.969> nation,<00:22:50.841> and<00:22:51.002> then<00:22:51.406> a<00:22:51.486> third<00:22:51.874> is<00:22:52.132> everywhere<00:22:52.600> else.
00:22:53.407 --> 00:22:58.428
And<00:22:53.504> so<00:22:54.230> we<00:22:54.392> have<00:22:54.634> some<00:22:55.118> aspect<00:22:55.603> of<00:22:55.829> all<00:22:56.006> three<00:22:56.329> variants<00:22:56.894> of<00:22:57.039> this<00:22:57.604> at<00:22:58.121> play.
00:23:00.317 --> 00:23:07.927
At<00:23:00.737> a<00:23:00.882> pirate<00:23:01.301> ship<00:23:01.623> stage,<00:23:03.880> I<00:23:03.961> think<00:23:04.267> it<00:23:04.509> would<00:23:04.686> be<00:23:04.928> very<00:23:05.251> challenging<00:23:06.218> to<00:23:06.444> have<00:23:06.701> a<00:23:06.863> fully<00:23:07.411> remote<00:23:07.814> team.
00:23:08.312 --> 00:23:09.547
There<00:23:08.376> are<00:23:08.472> companies<00:23:08.954> who<00:23:09.114> have<00:23:09.274> done<00:23:09.499> it.

00:23:13.991 --> 00:23:19.141
Like,<00:23:14.408> I<00:23:14.424> mean,<00:23:14.633> there<00:23:14.793> just<00:23:15.114> is—<00:23:15.291> there<00:23:15.451> are<00:23:15.676> groups<00:23:16.157> who<00:23:16.253> are<00:23:16.975> pioneering<00:23:17.617> that<00:23:17.841> and<00:23:17.938> doing<00:23:18.162> a<00:23:18.242> great<00:23:18.483> job<00:23:18.740> with<00:23:18.980> it.
00:23:19.783 --> 00:23:34.141
So<00:23:20.039> much<00:23:20.424> of<00:23:20.601> the<00:23:20.825> brainstorming,<00:23:22.349> creative<00:23:23.312> driving,<00:23:24.178> agility<00:23:25.783> of<00:23:26.023> just<00:23:26.424> acting<00:23:26.826> fast<00:23:27.162> and<00:23:27.323> quick<00:23:27.580> as<00:23:27.724> a<00:23:27.804> young<00:23:28.045> company,<00:23:29.023> I<00:23:29.088> think<00:23:29.328> gets<00:23:29.569> hindered<00:23:30.371> in<00:23:30.531> this<00:23:31.334> discussion<00:23:31.911> if<00:23:32.056> you<00:23:33.098> go<00:23:33.323> fully<00:23:33.724> remote.
00:23:34.606 --> 00:23:39.016
And<00:23:34.702> don't<00:23:35.007> have<00:23:35.200> any<00:23:35.488> previous<00:23:35.969> work<00:23:36.162> experience<00:23:36.867> with<00:23:37.092> the<00:23:37.188> team<00:23:37.910> and<00:23:38.150> on<00:23:38.311> the<00:23:38.455> opportunity.
00:23:39.978 --> 00:23:49.568
As<00:23:40.155> you<00:23:40.860> grow<00:23:41.277> in<00:23:41.438> team<00:23:41.694> sizes,<00:23:42.240> I<00:23:42.384> think<00:23:43.202> some<00:23:43.683> version<00:23:44.549> of<00:23:44.966> acceptance<00:23:45.992> of<00:23:46.313> all<00:23:46.473> three<00:23:47.275> has<00:23:47.516> to<00:23:47.692> be<00:23:48.959> alive<00:23:49.280> and<00:23:49.440> well.
00:23:50.819 --> 00:24:09.886
There<00:23:51.044> are<00:23:52.342> certainly<00:23:54.267> benefits<00:23:56.271> to<00:23:57.153> a<00:23:57.234> staff<00:23:57.779> base,<00:23:58.661> a<00:23:58.837> team,<00:24:00.264> in<00:24:00.826> from<00:24:01.004> a<00:24:01.085> personal<00:24:01.553> perspective,<00:24:02.780> vacation,<00:24:03.910> you<00:24:04.007> know,<00:24:04.153> everyday<00:24:04.637> work<00:24:04.879> logistics<00:24:07.543> that<00:24:07.786> matters<00:24:08.432> in<00:24:08.512> the<00:24:08.658> dynamic<00:24:09.223> of<00:24:09.320> being<00:24:09.546> remote.
00:24:10.468 --> 00:24:14.726
So<00:24:10.695> our<00:24:11.181> policy<00:24:11.666> today<00:24:12.233> is<00:24:12.476> one<00:24:13.188> day<00:24:13.447> in<00:24:13.592> office<00:24:14.256> every<00:24:14.499> week.
00:24:14.839 --> 00:24:18.497
So<00:24:15.130> we<00:24:15.227> have<00:24:15.454> Tuesdays<00:24:16.279> in<00:24:16.425> office<00:24:17.639> with<00:24:17.817> the<00:24:17.979> team<00:24:18.222> here.
00:24:19.838 --> 00:24:23.540
On<00:24:19.935> a<00:24:20.081> quarterly<00:24:20.647> basis,<00:24:21.212> we<00:24:21.374> get<00:24:22.037> the<00:24:22.166> US<00:24:22.667> team<00:24:23.071> together.
00:24:24.542 --> 00:24:25.900
So<00:24:24.914> everybody<00:24:25.318> comes<00:24:25.722> in.
00:24:26.757 --> 00:24:36.110
And<00:24:26.853> then<00:24:27.078> on<00:24:27.174> an<00:24:27.318> annualized<00:24:27.816> basis,<00:24:28.457> we<00:24:28.698> will<00:24:29.019> visit<00:24:30.206> or<00:24:30.864> ensure<00:24:32.147> that<00:24:32.773> international<00:24:33.351> base<00:24:33.752> gets<00:24:35.035> an<00:24:35.276> in-person<00:24:35.773> as<00:24:35.998> well.
00:24:37.201 --> 00:24:51.849
We<00:24:37.297> try<00:24:37.522> to<00:24:37.602> save<00:24:38.501> as<00:24:38.645> much<00:24:38.886> of<00:24:39.030> the<00:24:39.608> team<00:24:40.169> dynamic,<00:24:40.731> so<00:24:41.533> building<00:24:41.854> trust<00:24:42.335> and<00:24:42.881> the<00:24:42.961> foundation<00:24:43.699> that<00:24:43.939> way<00:24:44.677> for<00:24:45.062> those<00:24:45.929> moments<00:24:46.282> and<00:24:46.410> events<00:24:46.811> and<00:24:46.891> are<00:24:46.988> very<00:24:47.309> intentional<00:24:47.870> about<00:24:48.111> the<00:24:48.255> way<00:24:48.432> that<00:24:48.592> we<00:24:48.752> plan<00:24:49.154> and<00:24:49.234> structure<00:24:49.635> those<00:24:49.859> activities<00:24:50.902> when<00:24:51.063> we<00:24:51.223> are<00:24:51.384> in-person.
00:24:52.751 --> 00:25:03.743
And<00:24:52.832> then<00:24:53.154> otherwise,<00:24:54.138> the<00:24:54.219> dynamic<00:24:54.848> here<00:24:55.090> is<00:24:55.268> that<00:24:55.978> our<00:24:56.316> job<00:24:56.639> is<00:24:56.784> to<00:24:56.946> enable<00:24:57.365> and<00:24:57.446> defend,<00:24:58.156> enable<00:24:58.494> your<00:24:58.656> ability<00:24:59.527> to<00:24:59.624> get<00:24:59.801> the<00:24:59.930> job<00:25:00.253> done<00:25:01.060> and<00:25:01.431> defend<00:25:01.867> the<00:25:01.947> right<00:25:02.352> that<00:25:02.514> you<00:25:02.595> have<00:25:02.918> to<00:25:03.015> go<00:25:03.177> pursue<00:25:03.517> that.
00:25:04.375 --> 00:25:10.264
And<00:25:04.795> as<00:25:05.103> a<00:25:05.135> leadership<00:25:05.750> team,<00:25:06.656> we're<00:25:06.818> incredibly<00:25:07.368> committed<00:25:07.805> to<00:25:07.967> doing<00:25:08.274> that<00:25:09.083> on<00:25:09.164> an<00:25:09.261> individual<00:25:09.892> basis.
00:25:12.817 --> 00:25:24.208
The<00:25:12.898> more<00:25:13.141> that<00:25:13.303> this<00:25:13.464> discussion<00:25:14.047> starts<00:25:14.436> to<00:25:14.581> swing,<00:25:15.083> the<00:25:15.229> pendulum<00:25:15.650> starts<00:25:15.974> to<00:25:16.055> swing<00:25:16.459> back<00:25:17.511> to<00:25:17.738> in-office,<00:25:18.722> There<00:25:19.107> are<00:25:19.219> certainly<00:25:19.684> dynamics<00:25:20.326> of<00:25:20.486> that<00:25:20.807> that<00:25:20.968> are<00:25:21.609> positive<00:25:22.091> as<00:25:22.315> well<00:25:22.572> beyond<00:25:23.454> the<00:25:23.599> brainstorming.

Being<00:25:28.251> able<00:25:28.508> to<00:25:28.668> open<00:25:28.909> the<00:25:28.989> door,<00:25:29.310> walk<00:25:29.566> down<00:25:29.775> the<00:25:29.871> hall,<00:25:30.577> have<00:25:30.754> a<00:25:30.818> 5-minute<00:25:31.315> conversation,<00:25:33.240> it<00:25:33.400> carries<00:25:33.866> weight<00:25:34.363> and<00:25:34.507> it<00:25:34.604> can<00:25:34.828> compound.
00:25:35.646 --> 00:25:44.999
I<00:25:35.662> mean,<00:25:36.064> especially<00:25:36.609> as<00:25:36.753> you<00:25:36.914> look<00:25:37.154> at<00:25:37.908> Slack<00:25:38.454> or<00:25:38.614> Teams<00:25:39.015> fatigue,<00:25:40.523> overwhelming<00:25:41.566> inboxes,<00:25:42.930> like<00:25:43.267> it<00:25:43.571> can<00:25:43.748> just<00:25:44.069> get<00:25:44.389> overwhelming.
00:25:45.432 --> 00:25:56.670
And<00:25:45.513> I<00:25:45.593> think<00:25:45.753> there's<00:25:45.978> probably<00:25:46.396> an<00:25:46.540> aspect<00:25:47.102> of,<00:25:47.760> of<00:25:48.065> AI<00:25:48.402> certainly<00:25:49.189> in<00:25:49.285> the<00:25:49.349> making<00:25:50.650> where<00:25:51.854> to<00:25:52.400> help<00:25:54.021> enable<00:25:54.438> this<00:25:54.824> better<00:25:55.787> across<00:25:56.188> the<00:25:56.269> country.
00:25:57.794 --> 00:26:06.607
For<00:25:58.018> us,<00:25:58.693> it's<00:25:58.853> an<00:25:58.982> interesting<00:25:59.479> dynamic<00:26:00.041> because<00:26:00.828> nurses<00:26:01.229> and<00:26:01.325> facility<00:26:01.807> managers<00:26:02.449> in<00:26:02.546> Seattle<00:26:03.573> don't<00:26:03.814> care<00:26:04.135> about<00:26:04.520> what's<00:26:04.697> happening<00:26:05.178> in<00:26:05.323> Salt<00:26:05.580> Lake<00:26:05.885> or<00:26:05.965> Santa<00:26:06.238> Fe.
00:26:07.185 --> 00:26:09.465
Our<00:26:07.586> markets<00:26:08.293> are<00:26:08.774> hyperlocal.
00:26:10.380 --> 00:26:11.889
Having<00:26:10.717> boots<00:26:11.022> on<00:26:11.102> the<00:26:11.198> ground<00:26:11.584> matters.
00:26:11.985 --> 00:26:22.274
And<00:26:12.306> another<00:26:12.643> commitment<00:26:13.125> that<00:26:13.285> we<00:26:13.430> make<00:26:13.767> to<00:26:13.912> facility<00:26:14.409> partners<00:26:15.375> is<00:26:15.537> the<00:26:15.683> idea<00:26:16.168> that<00:26:16.590> when<00:26:16.751> you<00:26:16.913> work<00:26:17.156> with<00:26:17.318> NURSA,<00:26:17.707> you'll<00:26:17.869> be<00:26:18.031> working<00:26:18.371> with<00:26:18.468> someone<00:26:18.857> who's<00:26:19.035> experiencing<00:26:20.072> at<00:26:20.234> least<00:26:20.638> the<00:26:20.736> same<00:26:21.108> weather<00:26:21.448> that<00:26:21.610> you<00:26:21.788> are<00:26:22.015> today.
00:26:23.153 --> 00:26:29.065
They<00:26:23.298> likely<00:26:23.799> love<00:26:24.122> the<00:26:24.203> same<00:26:24.445> sports<00:26:24.849> teams<00:26:25.236> that<00:26:25.398> you<00:26:25.560> do<00:26:26.125> and<00:26:27.336> have<00:26:27.579> kids<00:26:27.902> in<00:26:27.999> the<00:26:28.080> same<00:26:28.403> leagues,<00:26:28.871> right?
00:26:29.130 --> 00:26:42.252
I<00:26:29.194> mean,<00:26:29.372> we—<00:26:30.341> the<00:26:30.503> internet<00:26:31.003> is<00:26:31.149> an<00:26:31.440> incredible,<00:26:33.249> unapproachable,<00:26:35.950> imaginative<00:26:36.709> beast<00:26:37.097> in<00:26:37.194> the<00:26:37.339> cloud,<00:26:37.905> but<00:26:38.163> it's<00:26:38.406> propped<00:26:38.794> up<00:26:38.971> on,<00:26:39.440> you<00:26:39.521> know,<00:26:39.860> chopsticks<00:26:40.506> and<00:26:40.910> manual<00:26:41.379> labor<00:26:41.783> on<00:26:41.880> the<00:26:41.961> ground.
00:26:42.429 --> 00:26:44.999

00:26:46.554 --> 00:26:56.792
And<00:26:46.650> so,<00:26:47.838> it<00:26:48.063> helps<00:26:48.335> in<00:26:48.416> our<00:26:48.624> experience<00:26:49.282> to<00:26:49.426> have<00:26:49.683> boots<00:26:49.988> on<00:26:50.084> the<00:26:50.165> ground<00:26:50.710> everywhere,<00:26:51.753> but<00:26:51.850> it<00:26:51.930> certainly<00:26:52.331> complicates<00:26:53.374> the<00:26:53.518> conversation<00:26:54.176> as<00:26:54.337> a<00:26:54.481> team<00:26:54.818> and<00:26:54.963> how<00:26:55.139> we<00:26:55.701> think<00:26:55.957> about<00:26:56.326> these<00:26:56.503> things.
00:26:57.386 --> 00:27:07.543
Short<00:26:57.787> story,<00:26:59.311> we<00:26:59.391> have<00:26:59.536> some<00:26:59.793> facet<00:27:00.194> of<00:27:00.338> all<00:27:00.499> three<00:27:00.755> of<00:27:00.900> these,<00:27:01.782> all<00:27:01.863> three<00:27:02.183> of<00:27:02.344> the<00:27:02.424> variants<00:27:02.938> of<00:27:03.082> this<00:27:03.243> discussion<00:27:03.965> in<00:27:04.125> play<00:27:04.927> and<00:27:05.409> have<00:27:05.714> had<00:27:05.970> such<00:27:06.693> since<00:27:07.013> 2020.
00:27:08.281 --> 00:27:09.035
Oh,<00:27:08.618> interesting.
00:27:09.982 --> 00:27:10.271
Interesting.
00:27:10.383 --> 00:27:16.449
Hey,<00:27:11.186> what<00:27:11.362> are<00:27:11.410> you<00:27:11.571> reading<00:27:12.148> and<00:27:12.293> what<00:27:12.550> reading<00:27:12.854> recommendations<00:27:13.576> would<00:27:13.673> you<00:27:13.753> have<00:27:13.994> for<00:27:14.379> a<00:27:14.780> community<00:27:15.293> of<00:27:15.374> CEOs<00:27:15.983> and<00:27:16.144> leaders?
00:27:17.445 --> 00:27:22.956
Yeah,<00:27:17.686> so,<00:27:18.409> so<00:27:18.585> I<00:27:18.714> recently<00:27:19.598> actually<00:27:20.417> put<00:27:20.562> together<00:27:20.979> a<00:27:21.124> pattern<00:27:21.542> that<00:27:21.767> has<00:27:22.088> helped<00:27:22.425> in<00:27:22.650> reading.
00:27:23.936 --> 00:27:26.683
As<00:27:24.096> you<00:27:24.193> grow<00:27:24.353> a<00:27:24.434> company,<00:27:25.462> it's<00:27:25.639> been<00:27:26.024> pretty<00:27:26.346> tough.
00:27:26.747 --> 00:27:37.978
These<00:27:27.069> are—<00:27:27.647> 2020<00:27:28.370> to<00:27:28.531> 2024<00:27:29.639> are<00:27:29.672> some<00:27:30.057> of<00:27:30.282> the<00:27:31.567> lowest<00:27:32.049> volume<00:27:32.628> years<00:27:33.206> for,<00:27:33.849> for<00:27:34.299> reading<00:27:35.038> and<00:27:35.118> just<00:27:35.440> real<00:27:35.745> intense<00:27:36.307> learning<00:27:37.432> of<00:27:37.528> my<00:27:37.769> own.
00:27:39.039 --> 00:27:47.763
I<00:27:39.119> have<00:27:39.296> found<00:27:39.762> though<00:27:40.019> that<00:27:40.163> if<00:27:40.324> I<00:27:40.501> get<00:27:40.806> the<00:27:41.143> hardcover<00:27:41.770> book,<00:27:42.268> and<00:27:42.493> I<00:27:42.589> am<00:27:42.814> a<00:27:43.619> I'm<00:27:43.781> dedicated<00:27:44.361> to<00:27:44.506> hardcovers,<00:27:46.038> just<00:27:46.796> a<00:27:46.860> thing,<00:27:47.247> just<00:27:47.440> a<00:27:47.505> tick.
00:27:49.841 --> 00:27:56.910
I<00:27:50.067> love<00:27:50.310> holding<00:27:50.714> a<00:27:51.135> book,<00:27:52.494> and<00:27:52.591> I<00:27:52.736> get<00:27:52.931> the<00:27:53.141> audio<00:27:53.545> version,<00:27:54.435> and<00:27:54.597> I<00:27:55.163> read<00:27:55.438> and<00:27:55.664> listen<00:27:55.988> at<00:27:56.134> the<00:27:56.231> same<00:27:56.554> time.
00:27:57.460 --> 00:27:59.057
I<00:27:57.525> can<00:27:57.832> work<00:27:58.010> through<00:27:58.140> material<00:27:58.719> quicker.
00:28:00.007 --> 00:28:06.753
Most<00:28:00.329> recently,<00:28:01.215> I<00:28:01.392> finished<00:28:03.388> Super<00:28:03.726> Communicators,<00:28:05.079> which<00:28:05.256> was<00:28:05.481> a<00:28:06.045> great<00:28:06.367> read.
00:28:07.671 --> 00:28:11.394
I<00:28:07.800> did<00:28:08.889> a<00:28:08.971> second<00:28:09.459> pass<00:28:09.865> through<00:28:10.337> Adam<00:28:10.597> Grant's<00:28:11.004> Think<00:28:11.183> Again.

And<00:28:13.744> then<00:28:13.906> several<00:28:15.116> other<00:28:15.358> podcasts.
00:28:16.165 --> 00:28:18.102
I've<00:28:16.488> got<00:28:16.972> a<00:28:17.053> few<00:28:17.295> notes<00:28:17.618> that<00:28:17.843> way.
00:28:18.828 --> 00:28:24.830
Generally,<00:28:19.393> when<00:28:19.554> I'm<00:28:19.796> listening,<00:28:21.873> I<00:28:22.098> will<00:28:23.335> do<00:28:23.560> it<00:28:23.801> at<00:28:23.962> time<00:28:24.283> and<00:28:24.364> a<00:28:24.428> half.
00:28:25.649 --> 00:28:32.868
There<00:28:25.810> are<00:28:25.971> a<00:28:26.051> few<00:28:26.372> people<00:28:26.838> that<00:28:27.722> I<00:28:27.819> will<00:28:27.899> listen<00:28:28.220> to<00:28:28.397> at<00:28:28.542> full<00:28:28.702> speed,<00:28:29.666> Michael<00:28:29.988> Lewis,<00:28:30.470> Malcolm<00:28:30.840> Gladwell<00:28:31.359> being<00:28:32.251> two<00:28:32.414> of<00:28:32.576> those.
00:28:33.306 --> 00:28:41.701

From<00:28:45.683> a<00:28:45.763> leadership<00:28:46.329> perspective,<00:28:47.687> I<00:28:47.703> just<00:28:47.945> think<00:28:48.253> it<00:28:48.576> carries<00:28:48.980> a<00:28:49.142> ton<00:28:49.400> of<00:28:49.546> weight<00:28:51.404> to<00:28:51.501> hear<00:28:51.728> about<00:28:52.051> these<00:28:52.293> folks<00:28:52.714> that<00:28:54.653> moved<00:28:55.688> and<00:28:56.253> were<00:28:56.350> moved<00:28:56.835> to<00:28:57.061> action<00:28:57.886> in<00:28:58.290> really<00:28:58.855> incredible<00:28:59.486> ways,<00:29:00.860> even<00:29:01.102> though<00:29:01.345> everything,<00:29:01.926> the<00:29:02.007> circumstances<00:29:02.815> around<00:29:03.219> them<00:29:04.022> warranted<00:29:04.503> otherwise.
00:29:05.064 --> 00:29:09.151
There's<00:29:05.256> just<00:29:05.465> no<00:29:05.705> reason<00:29:06.250> they<00:29:06.346> should<00:29:06.667> not<00:29:06.971> have,<00:29:08.109> that<00:29:08.270> they<00:29:08.366> should<00:29:08.574> have<00:29:08.750> done<00:29:08.911> that.
00:29:09.376 --> 00:29:09.520
Yeah.
00:29:09.568 --> 00:29:10.674
So<00:29:09.953> I<00:29:10.097> loved<00:29:10.353> that.
00:29:10.818 --> 00:29:15.194
That's<00:29:11.635> a<00:29:11.700> sampling<00:29:12.341> from<00:29:12.581> what's<00:29:13.318> been<00:29:13.543> on<00:29:14.120> my<00:29:14.280> shelf<00:29:14.745> this<00:29:14.985> year.
00:29:15.883 --> 00:29:18.015
Yourself,<00:29:16.668> what<00:29:17.390> have<00:29:17.486> you<00:29:17.630> been<00:29:17.790> reading?
00:29:18.768 --> 00:29:20.996
I<00:29:18.912> just<00:29:19.089> picked<00:29:19.313> up<00:29:19.409> the<00:29:19.489> book<00:29:20.034> called<00:29:20.291> Blitzed.
00:29:21.172 --> 00:29:24.073
Actually,<00:29:21.413> one<00:29:21.573> of<00:29:21.733> our<00:29:22.454> previous<00:29:22.935> guests<00:29:23.320> recommended<00:29:23.961> it.
00:29:24.201 --> 00:29:26.910
It's<00:29:24.314> about,<00:29:24.843> and<00:29:25.099> you<00:29:25.179> know,<00:29:25.356> it<00:29:25.388> has<00:29:25.564> nothing<00:29:25.772> to<00:29:25.804> do<00:29:25.868> with<00:29:25.981> leadership<00:29:26.606> really.
00:29:27.599 --> 00:29:31.350
It's<00:29:27.808> World<00:29:28.064> War<00:29:28.225> II<00:29:28.625> and<00:29:28.705> how<00:29:29.347> drugs<00:29:29.731> played<00:29:30.068> a<00:29:30.212> role<00:29:30.773> in<00:29:31.094> the—.
00:29:31.494 --> 00:29:31.959
No<00:29:31.751> kidding.
00:29:33.596 --> 00:29:38.526
In<00:29:33.757> the<00:29:34.078> Third<00:29:34.383> Reich<00:29:35.106> and<00:29:35.523> in<00:29:35.604> particular<00:29:36.246> in<00:29:36.455> Blitzkrieg<00:29:37.225> and,<00:29:37.787> you<00:29:37.851> know,<00:29:37.916> all<00:29:38.173> that<00:29:38.253> type<00:29:38.413> of<00:29:38.446> stuff.
00:29:38.590 --> 00:29:39.586
It's<00:29:38.718> kind<00:29:38.831> of<00:29:38.959> wild,<00:29:39.441> actually.
00:29:39.682 --> 00:29:40.469
It's<00:29:39.842> really<00:29:40.083> cool.
00:29:40.886 --> 00:29:43.214
And<00:29:40.934> then<00:29:41.015> I'm<00:29:41.143> reading<00:29:41.384> some<00:29:41.609> other<00:29:41.785> one<00:29:42.010> about<00:29:42.347> like<00:29:42.572> the<00:29:42.652> CIA.
00:29:43.311 --> 00:29:48.176
I<00:29:43.455> can't<00:29:43.632> remember<00:29:43.841> what<00:29:43.889> it's<00:29:44.114> called,<00:29:44.435> but<00:29:44.515> I<00:29:44.595> don't<00:29:44.708> know<00:29:44.820> why<00:29:44.900> I'm<00:29:45.157> like<00:29:45.398> in<00:29:45.478> that,<00:29:46.426> uh,<00:29:46.683> mode,<00:29:47.084> but<00:29:47.228> that's,<00:29:47.469> that's<00:29:47.646> where<00:29:47.790> I'm<00:29:47.951> going.
00:29:49.316 --> 00:29:53.972
What,<00:29:49.814> what<00:29:50.054> makes<00:29:50.520> material<00:29:51.403> engaging<00:29:52.543> when<00:29:52.688> you<00:29:52.864> go<00:29:52.961> to<00:29:53.105> pick<00:29:53.330> something<00:29:53.812> up?
00:29:54.053 --> 00:29:56.782
Like<00:29:54.631> what,<00:29:55.016> what<00:29:55.193> keeps<00:29:55.514> you<00:29:55.835> pulled<00:29:56.622> in?
00:29:57.907 --> 00:30:00.081
Well,<00:29:58.245> one,<00:29:58.487> it's<00:29:58.567> got<00:29:58.728> to<00:29:58.809> be<00:29:58.970> good<00:29:59.195> writing,<00:29:59.856> right?
00:30:00.162 --> 00:30:00.677
Don't<00:30:00.258> you<00:30:00.339> think?
00:30:00.742 --> 00:30:02.804
Like,<00:30:01.209> you<00:30:01.306> got<00:30:01.418> to<00:30:01.467> have<00:30:01.869> great<00:30:02.175> writing.
00:30:03.238 --> 00:30:06.009
If<00:30:03.335> it's<00:30:03.561> too<00:30:03.802> dense,<00:30:04.302> I'm<00:30:04.527> going<00:30:04.608> to<00:30:04.688> fall<00:30:04.914> asleep,<00:30:05.735> right?
00:30:06.202 --> 00:30:08.935
Or<00:30:07.106> just<00:30:07.414> move<00:30:07.592> on<00:30:07.931> or<00:30:08.304> that<00:30:08.482> type<00:30:08.660> of<00:30:08.724> stuff.
00:30:08.983 --> 00:30:12.009
So<00:30:09.695> certainly<00:30:10.180> number<00:30:10.569> one's<00:30:11.070> got<00:30:11.216> to<00:30:11.297> be<00:30:11.394> great<00:30:11.620> writing.
00:30:12.410 --> 00:30:26.228
And<00:30:12.522> two,<00:30:12.780> it's<00:30:12.989> just<00:30:13.150> like<00:30:14.535> learning<00:30:14.937> about<00:30:15.114> something<00:30:15.581> like<00:30:15.807> I<00:30:15.823> never<00:30:16.048> would<00:30:16.129> have—<00:30:16.225> like,<00:30:16.386> I<00:30:16.483> was<00:30:16.644> never<00:30:17.014> taught<00:30:17.272> in<00:30:17.417> school<00:30:17.916> that<00:30:18.318> meth<00:30:19.349> is<00:30:19.590> why,<00:30:21.522> you<00:30:21.619> know,<00:30:22.070> the<00:30:22.265> Nazi<00:30:22.754> regime<00:30:23.309> was<00:30:23.472> able<00:30:23.668> to<00:30:23.814> take<00:30:24.793> France<00:30:25.347> in<00:30:25.445> 10<00:30:25.771> days.
00:30:26.592 --> 00:30:26.800
Right?
00:30:26.848 --> 00:30:28.485
Like,<00:30:27.555> that's<00:30:27.860> crazy.
00:30:28.823 --> 00:30:29.850
And<00:30:29.144> it's<00:30:29.272> just<00:30:29.545> fun.
00:30:30.026 --> 00:30:35.307
Anything<00:30:30.347> that's<00:30:30.508> like<00:30:30.684> that,<00:30:31.070> where<00:30:31.182> I'm<00:30:31.326> like,<00:30:31.647> oh,<00:30:32.049> I<00:30:32.129> get<00:30:32.241> to<00:30:32.289> learn<00:30:32.530> something<00:30:32.915> really<00:30:33.172> interesting<00:30:33.654> and<00:30:33.734> new,<00:30:34.055> then,<00:30:34.440> then<00:30:34.488> I'm<00:30:34.633> excited<00:30:35.018> about<00:30:35.275> it.
00:30:36.366 --> 00:30:38.597
Yeah,<00:30:36.543> new<00:30:36.703> perspectives<00:30:37.666> and<00:30:37.762> a<00:30:37.891> well-told<00:30:38.324> story.
00:30:38.790 --> 00:30:40.106
Yeah,<00:30:39.432> yeah,<00:30:39.993> yeah.
00:30:40.218 --> 00:30:41.646
I<00:30:40.298> totally<00:30:40.539> agree<00:30:40.780> with<00:30:40.892> that<00:30:41.277> summary.
00:30:42.305 --> 00:30:44.247
I—<00:30:42.626> there's,<00:30:43.043> there's<00:30:43.268> an<00:30:43.508> aspect<00:30:43.990> of<00:30:44.086> it.
00:30:44.471 --> 00:30:53.359
How<00:30:44.712> often<00:30:45.129> will<00:30:45.290> you<00:30:45.434> find<00:30:45.836> yourself,<00:30:47.120> um,<00:30:47.778> applying<00:30:49.142> or<00:30:49.784> changing<00:30:50.667> behavior<00:30:51.164> or<00:30:51.549> a<00:30:51.694> habit<00:30:52.240> based<00:30:52.585> on<00:30:52.750> what<00:30:52.931> you<00:30:53.096> read?
00:30:55.080 --> 00:30:55.867
That's<00:30:55.208> a<00:30:55.337> good<00:30:55.513> question.
00:30:56.060 --> 00:31:04.221
I'm<00:30:56.236> not<00:30:56.477> sure,<00:30:57.586> um,<00:30:58.325> to<00:30:58.469> be<00:30:58.630> honest<00:30:58.951> with<00:30:59.128> you,<00:30:59.273> how<00:30:59.530> much<00:31:00.960> what<00:31:01.136> I<00:31:01.361> read<00:31:01.779> changes<00:31:02.968> habits<00:31:03.466> in<00:31:03.546> particular.
00:31:04.687 --> 00:31:12.449
Although<00:31:04.832> I<00:31:04.993> will<00:31:05.089> say,<00:31:05.637> and<00:31:05.717> you<00:31:05.862> probably<00:31:06.120> read<00:31:06.281> this<00:31:06.442> book,<00:31:06.684> Atomic<00:31:07.167> Habits,<00:31:08.471> certainly<00:31:09.164> played<00:31:09.663> an<00:31:09.808> enormous<00:31:10.452> role<00:31:11.096> in<00:31:11.676> my<00:31:11.917> thinking.
00:31:12.626 --> 00:31:22.633
And,<00:31:13.511> um,<00:31:14.254> and,<00:31:14.648> and<00:31:15.157> there's<00:31:15.387> this<00:31:15.551> other<00:31:15.716> one,<00:31:15.962> Anxious<00:31:16.290> Generation,<00:31:17.045> that<00:31:17.193> I<00:31:17.292> read<00:31:17.521> recently<00:31:18.766> I<00:31:19.007> have<00:31:19.119> 4<00:31:19.424> kids,<00:31:20.082> about<00:31:20.323> social<00:31:20.692> media<00:31:20.964> and<00:31:21.045> stuff<00:31:21.285> like<00:31:21.494> that,<00:31:21.670> like<00:31:21.831> that<00:31:22.071> type<00:31:22.296> of<00:31:22.328> stuff.
00:31:23.018 --> 00:31:28.569
It<00:31:23.098> kind<00:31:23.227> of,<00:31:23.275> I<00:31:23.355> guess<00:31:23.580> it<00:31:23.676> kind<00:31:23.836> of<00:31:23.917> depends<00:31:24.237> on<00:31:24.318> the<00:31:24.398> topic,<00:31:25.104> but,<00:31:25.425> um,<00:31:25.762> Atomic<00:31:26.291> Habits<00:31:26.644> and<00:31:26.724> Anxious<00:31:27.045> Generation<00:31:27.687> had<00:31:27.847> a<00:31:27.927> major<00:31:28.184> effect.
00:31:29.853 --> 00:31:32.917
Yeah,<00:31:29.949> I'll<00:31:30.334> go<00:31:30.559> through,<00:31:31.072> I'll<00:31:31.297> go<00:31:31.521> through<00:31:31.698> a<00:31:31.778> variety<00:31:32.340> of<00:31:32.420> stages.
00:31:32.981 --> 00:31:36.399
Sometimes<00:31:33.527> I<00:31:33.687> want<00:31:33.864> to<00:31:34.088> read,<00:31:35.051> um,<00:31:35.372> to<00:31:35.548> push<00:31:35.709> a<00:31:35.853> boundary.
00:31:36.575 --> 00:31:40.458
Sometimes<00:31:37.137> I<00:31:37.233> want<00:31:37.409> to<00:31:37.859> read<00:31:38.260> or,<00:31:38.597> or<00:31:38.757> listen<00:31:39.303> to<00:31:39.479> be<00:31:39.720> entertained.
00:31:41.067 --> 00:31:53.061
And<00:31:41.581> I'll<00:31:41.886> usually<00:31:42.367> know,<00:31:43.410> you<00:31:43.506> know,<00:31:43.795> a<00:31:44.132> a<00:31:44.293> chapter<00:31:45.017> or<00:31:45.178> two<00:31:45.660> into<00:31:45.982> a<00:31:46.143> book<00:31:47.092> that,<00:31:47.816> okay,<00:31:48.298> like,<00:31:48.620> I'm—<00:31:49.826> this<00:31:50.068> is<00:31:50.164> the<00:31:50.309> right<00:31:50.566> moment<00:31:50.968> for<00:31:51.129> this<00:31:51.370> book<00:31:51.692> or<00:31:51.773> not.
00:31:53.222 --> 00:32:00.870
I<00:31:53.302> never,<00:31:54.574> I<00:31:54.591> never<00:31:54.913> think<00:31:55.170> about<00:31:55.541> it<00:31:55.782> as<00:31:57.811> leaving<00:31:58.439> a<00:31:58.535> book,<00:31:58.938> just<00:31:59.180> that<00:31:59.276> I'll<00:31:59.485> finish<00:31:59.824> it<00:31:59.985> later,<00:32:00.629> right?
00:32:00.951 --> 00:32:04.413
And<00:32:01.080> there's<00:32:01.337> a,<00:32:01.595> there's<00:32:01.772> a<00:32:01.901> pretty<00:32:02.078> good<00:32:02.384> healthy<00:32:02.722> backlog<00:32:03.302> of<00:32:03.383> I'll<00:32:03.592> finish<00:32:03.930> it<00:32:04.075> later.
00:32:05.203 --> 00:32:17.926
I<00:32:06.088> also<00:32:06.427> think<00:32:06.668> that<00:32:06.829> we<00:32:06.990> get<00:32:08.182> in<00:32:08.343> a<00:32:09.004> changing<00:32:09.567> behavior<00:32:10.375> or<00:32:10.537> demonstrating<00:32:11.431> merit<00:32:12.390> to<00:32:12.488> changing<00:32:12.975> behavior,<00:32:13.626> we<00:32:13.788> get<00:32:15.019> you<00:32:15.115> get<00:32:15.260> a<00:32:15.420> lot<00:32:15.902> of<00:32:16.304> overly<00:32:16.866> written<00:32:17.267> concepts.
00:32:18.070 --> 00:32:23.178
So<00:32:18.970> by<00:32:19.050> the<00:32:19.211> time<00:32:19.452> you<00:32:19.612> get<00:32:19.837> to<00:32:19.934> chapter<00:32:20.335> 3<00:32:20.656> or<00:32:20.737> 5,<00:32:21.460> like,<00:32:21.684> I've<00:32:21.781> seen<00:32:22.038> enough<00:32:22.343> examples<00:32:22.985> now.
00:32:23.467 --> 00:32:25.812
I<00:32:23.564> know,<00:32:24.576> I<00:32:24.656> get,<00:32:25.057> I<00:32:25.090> get<00:32:25.379> the<00:32:25.555> point.
00:32:25.957 --> 00:32:27.965
I<00:32:26.053> don't<00:32:26.278> need<00:32:26.455> another<00:32:26.760> 6<00:32:27.081> chapters<00:32:27.563> of<00:32:27.724> this.
00:32:28.029 --> 00:32:38.566
And<00:32:28.125> so<00:32:29.073> I<00:32:29.394> always<00:32:29.812> feel<00:32:30.133> bad<00:32:30.519> because,<00:32:31.739> because<00:32:31.964> the<00:32:32.125> author,<00:32:32.703> I<00:32:32.719> mean,<00:32:32.912> that<00:32:33.008> was<00:32:33.185> blood,<00:32:33.426> sweat,<00:32:33.667> and<00:32:33.811> tears<00:32:34.229> for<00:32:34.374> some<00:32:34.711> period<00:32:35.128> of<00:32:35.273> time,<00:32:36.317> usually<00:32:36.943> years,<00:32:37.506> to,<00:32:37.843> to<00:32:38.068> do<00:32:38.244> that.
00:32:39.048 --> 00:32:47.435
But,<00:32:39.449> but<00:32:39.610> if<00:32:39.770> the<00:32:40.092> If<00:32:40.236> I<00:32:40.333> feel<00:32:40.750> like<00:32:41.056> I've<00:32:41.281> gotten<00:32:41.618> there<00:32:42.486> too<00:32:42.743> quickly,<00:32:43.868> it<00:32:44.012> will<00:32:44.189> also<00:32:44.591> go<00:32:44.896> into<00:32:45.956> the,<00:32:46.422> we'll<00:32:46.599> finish<00:32:47.065> later.
00:32:48.286 --> 00:32:51.596
When<00:32:48.463> I've<00:32:48.608> forgotten<00:32:49.170> these<00:32:49.475> examples,<00:32:50.231> I'll<00:32:50.375> come<00:32:50.600> back<00:32:50.873> and<00:32:51.018> read<00:32:51.195> some<00:32:51.404> more.
00:32:51.982 --> 00:32:54.312
There<00:32:52.223> are<00:32:52.303> some<00:32:52.625> books<00:32:52.866> that<00:32:53.091> could<00:32:53.187> have<00:32:53.332> been<00:32:53.509> blog<00:32:53.814> posts.
00:32:55.678 --> 00:32:56.963
Absolutely,<00:32:56.545> absolutely.
00:32:57.124 --> 00:33:00.080
Or<00:32:57.526> I<00:32:57.590> mean,<00:32:58.474> even<00:32:58.650> a<00:32:58.795> white<00:32:59.052> paper,<00:32:59.759> right?
00:33:00.643 --> 00:33:05.158
And<00:33:00.723> so<00:33:00.884> you<00:33:01.061> get<00:33:02.748> that<00:33:03.069> kind<00:33:03.406> of<00:33:03.487> stuff<00:33:03.937> can<00:33:04.194> get<00:33:04.660> old.
00:33:06.668 --> 00:33:09.107
Your<00:33:06.764> time's<00:33:07.149> the<00:33:07.229> most<00:33:07.406> valuable<00:33:07.871> resource<00:33:08.369> that<00:33:08.513> you<00:33:08.674> have.
00:33:09.171 --> 00:33:17.918
And<00:33:09.267> so<00:33:10.295> if<00:33:10.439> you're<00:33:11.241> over-investing<00:33:12.140> in<00:33:12.365> content<00:33:13.007> that<00:33:14.211> isn't<00:33:14.628> moving<00:33:15.013> the<00:33:15.045> needle,<00:33:15.832> like<00:33:16.056> I<00:33:16.136> think<00:33:16.457> I<00:33:16.538> try<00:33:16.714> to<00:33:16.794> be<00:33:16.955> conscious<00:33:17.452> of<00:33:17.597> that.
00:33:18.544 --> 00:33:27.114
From<00:33:19.539> an<00:33:19.683> entertainment<00:33:20.325> perspective,<00:33:22.315> I<00:33:23.054> think<00:33:23.278> we<00:33:23.455> live<00:33:24.001> in<00:33:24.097> the<00:33:24.257> greatest<00:33:24.723> era<00:33:25.124> of<00:33:25.220> storytelling<00:33:26.103> that<00:33:26.263> there<00:33:26.424> has<00:33:26.649> ever<00:33:26.825> been.
00:33:27.371 --> 00:33:27.788
Yeah.
00:33:28.334 --> 00:33:33.759
And<00:33:28.494> you<00:33:28.591> just,<00:33:28.912> there<00:33:29.072> is<00:33:29.377> all<00:33:29.553> kinds<00:33:30.035> of<00:33:30.436> incredible<00:33:31.239> stories<00:33:31.800> to<00:33:32.480> to<00:33:32.625> consume.
00:33:34.601 --> 00:33:46.075
I<00:33:34.860> think<00:33:35.103> there's—<00:33:37.127> just<00:33:37.354> to<00:33:37.532> introduce<00:33:38.098> kids<00:33:38.584> to<00:33:38.746> the<00:33:38.827> magic<00:33:39.313> of<00:33:39.459> reading,<00:33:40.770> the<00:33:40.932> concept<00:33:41.645> of<00:33:41.710> great<00:33:41.904> stories<00:33:42.534> has<00:33:42.712> been<00:33:43.359> just<00:33:43.536> an<00:33:43.682> absolute<00:33:44.248> joy<00:33:44.797> the<00:33:44.894> last<00:33:45.315> several<00:33:45.848> years.
00:33:46.430 --> 00:33:47.319
Oh,<00:33:46.592> I<00:33:46.737> totally<00:33:47.077> agree.
00:33:48.128 --> 00:33:48.855
I<00:33:48.209> totally<00:33:48.613> agree.
00:33:49.324 --> 00:33:56.715
Hey,<00:33:49.987> on<00:33:50.084> a<00:33:50.213> leadership<00:33:50.714> front,<00:33:53.014> in<00:33:53.046> your<00:33:53.193> opinion,<00:33:53.910> what<00:33:54.171> are<00:33:54.318> like<00:33:54.498> the<00:33:54.661> 3<00:33:54.922> most<00:33:55.297> important<00:33:55.786> traits<00:33:56.210> of<00:33:56.308> a<00:33:56.438> leader?
00:33:58.599 --> 00:34:00.561
It's<00:33:59.146> an<00:33:59.226> interesting<00:34:00.095> question.
00:34:01.703 --> 00:34:16.317
Two<00:34:02.282> or<00:34:02.523> three<00:34:02.765> things<00:34:03.810> that<00:34:03.971> stand<00:34:04.438> out<00:34:04.598> here<00:34:04.775> for<00:34:04.920> me,<00:34:05.258> Clint,<00:34:05.644> and<00:34:06.368> I'm<00:34:06.545> equally<00:34:06.947> interested<00:34:07.494> in<00:34:07.590> your<00:34:07.832> own<00:34:08.153> thoughts,<00:34:08.635> and<00:34:08.732> especially<00:34:09.358> given<00:34:10.323> just<00:34:10.499> some<00:34:10.741> of<00:34:10.789> the<00:34:10.885> folks<00:34:11.191> you've<00:34:11.416> had<00:34:11.528> on<00:34:11.608> the<00:34:11.689> show,<00:34:12.155> your<00:34:12.396> own<00:34:13.457> development,<00:34:15.144> which<00:34:15.305> has<00:34:15.466> been<00:34:15.626> fun<00:34:15.803> to<00:34:15.948> watch.
00:34:18.941 --> 00:34:26.072
I<00:34:19.006> think<00:34:19.185> there's<00:34:19.429> probably—<00:34:21.850> the<00:34:21.932> first<00:34:23.167> is<00:34:23.999> that<00:34:24.231> what<00:34:24.811> you<00:34:24.977> do<00:34:25.243> is<00:34:25.475> who<00:34:25.641> you<00:34:25.823> are.
00:34:27.792 --> 00:34:33.987
There's<00:34:27.955> an<00:34:28.101> oft-quoted<00:34:29.239> quip<00:34:29.580> about,<00:34:30.800> you<00:34:30.865> know,<00:34:31.109> teach<00:34:31.434> always<00:34:32.101> and<00:34:32.344> when<00:34:32.588> necessary<00:34:33.320> use<00:34:33.564> words.
00:34:36.235 --> 00:34:39.707
I<00:34:36.316> think<00:34:36.478> that's<00:34:37.672> at<00:34:37.753> the<00:34:37.915> root<00:34:38.157> of<00:34:38.318> what<00:34:38.496> matters<00:34:38.899> most<00:34:39.271> for<00:34:39.384> me.
00:34:40.998 --> 00:34:51.124
I<00:34:41.160> read<00:34:41.337> a<00:34:41.467> book,<00:34:42.209> Ben<00:34:42.451> Horowitz<00:34:43.808> wrote<00:34:43.985> a<00:34:44.066> book<00:34:44.373> of<00:34:44.534> that<00:34:44.712> title,<00:34:45.833> What<00:34:46.337> You<00:34:46.418> Do<00:34:46.645> Is<00:34:46.743> Who<00:34:46.889> You<00:34:47.133> Are,<00:34:47.230> about<00:34:47.620> culture<00:34:48.692> and<00:34:48.839> how<00:34:49.098> much<00:34:49.570> action<00:34:50.578> speaks.
00:34:51.605 --> 00:35:00.523
There<00:34:51.701> was<00:34:51.910> a<00:34:52.583> section<00:34:53.032> of<00:34:53.129> the<00:34:53.289> book<00:34:53.594> dedicated<00:34:54.251> to<00:34:55.454> Genghis<00:34:55.855> Khan<00:34:56.802> and<00:34:57.042> the<00:34:57.283> residual<00:34:57.941> impact<00:34:58.502> of<00:34:58.662> the<00:34:58.807> culture<00:34:59.208> that<00:34:59.304> Genghis<00:34:59.705> Khan<00:34:59.881> established.
00:35:00.587 --> 00:35:05.592
And<00:35:01.229> he's<00:35:01.710> a<00:35:01.790> fascinating,<00:35:03.138> fascinating<00:35:03.715> character<00:35:04.196> to<00:35:04.357> learn<00:35:04.581> from<00:35:04.822> in<00:35:04.918> that<00:35:05.143> respect.
00:35:06.281 --> 00:35:07.805
Brutal<00:35:06.923> in<00:35:07.003> many<00:35:07.244> aspects.
00:35:07.886 --> 00:35:13.836
But<00:35:08.591> I<00:35:08.832> loved—<00:35:09.393> I<00:35:09.554> love<00:35:09.794> the<00:35:09.955> idea<00:35:10.468> that<00:35:10.757> what<00:35:10.997> we<00:35:11.174> do<00:35:11.430> speaks<00:35:11.879> louder<00:35:12.297> than<00:35:12.778> anything<00:35:13.243> that<00:35:13.484> we<00:35:13.516> say.
00:35:14.943 --> 00:35:17.959
And<00:35:15.007> so<00:35:15.120> that's,<00:35:15.505> that's<00:35:15.761> at<00:35:15.890> the<00:35:15.970> heart<00:35:16.226> of<00:35:16.451> what<00:35:16.611> I<00:35:16.708> think<00:35:16.948> great<00:35:17.189> leadership<00:35:17.766> is.
00:35:18.958 --> 00:35:23.318
Being<00:35:19.281> willing<00:35:19.749> to<00:35:19.991> act<00:35:20.653> and<00:35:21.041> oftentimes,<00:35:22.090> you<00:35:22.123> know,<00:35:22.333> going<00:35:22.656> into<00:35:22.898> the<00:35:22.995> fray.
00:35:23.948 --> 00:35:27.789
There's<00:35:24.141> a<00:35:24.270> bit<00:35:25.239> of<00:35:25.482> risk<00:35:26.547> as<00:35:26.709> you<00:35:27.434> do<00:35:27.596> that.
00:35:28.965 --> 00:35:43.955
I<00:35:29.045> think<00:35:29.352> another<00:35:32.493> aspect<00:35:33.089> of<00:35:33.234> great<00:35:33.556> leadership<00:35:34.120> for<00:35:34.249> me<00:35:34.523> is<00:35:34.684> someone<00:35:35.490> who<00:35:35.780> understands<00:35:36.620> that<00:35:38.655> stress<00:35:39.431> focuses<00:35:40.804> your<00:35:40.966> attention<00:35:41.548> in<00:35:41.709> ways<00:35:42.178> that<00:35:42.824> good<00:35:43.002> times<00:35:43.567> can't.
00:35:44.652 --> 00:35:57.306
I'm<00:35:45.301> very<00:35:45.561> much<00:35:45.886> a<00:35:46.357> believer<00:35:46.860> that<00:35:48.306> leadership<00:35:48.955> is<00:35:50.336> on<00:35:50.514> display<00:35:52.138> in<00:35:52.284> an<00:35:52.349> action-oriented<00:35:53.188> fashion<00:35:53.995> most<00:35:55.610> when<00:35:55.852> things<00:35:56.175> do<00:35:56.272> not<00:35:56.579> go<00:35:56.886> right.
00:35:58.581 --> 00:36:07.799
And<00:35:58.678> there's<00:35:59.792> lots<00:36:00.067> of<00:36:00.293> people<00:36:00.680> who<00:36:00.858> can<00:36:01.150> shepherd<00:36:04.337> soft-moving<00:36:05.690> or<00:36:06.575> stable<00:36:07.155> ships.
00:36:09.136 --> 00:36:12.870
I<00:36:09.216> look<00:36:09.393> at<00:36:09.474> that<00:36:09.699> as<00:36:09.860> more<00:36:10.037> of<00:36:10.134> a<00:36:10.198> management<00:36:11.948> principle.
00:36:13.307 --> 00:36:26.840
Leadership<00:36:13.873> is<00:36:13.970> someone<00:36:14.503> who,<00:36:15.635> you<00:36:15.668> know,<00:36:16.137> Mike<00:36:16.444> Tyson<00:36:16.881> is<00:36:17.091> quoted<00:36:17.495> as<00:36:17.592> saying,<00:36:19.806> "Everybody's<00:36:20.228> got<00:36:20.407> a<00:36:20.472> plan<00:36:20.715> until<00:36:21.024> you<00:36:21.122> get<00:36:21.284> punched<00:36:21.625> in<00:36:21.755> the<00:36:21.853> face."<00:36:22.324> And<00:36:22.827> I<00:36:22.908> think<00:36:23.136> real<00:36:23.315> leaders<00:36:23.948> show<00:36:24.354> up<00:36:24.468> in<00:36:24.598> the<00:36:24.679> 5<00:36:25.020> minutes<00:36:25.410> after<00:36:25.816> you<00:36:25.914> get<00:36:26.011> punched<00:36:26.320> in<00:36:26.466> the<00:36:26.547> face.
00:36:28.450 --> 00:36:38.334
General<00:36:28.707> MacArthur<00:36:30.802> had<00:36:30.963> a<00:36:31.463> quote,<00:36:32.430> "No<00:36:32.591> good<00:36:32.833> strategy<00:36:33.413> survives<00:36:33.944> contact<00:36:34.428> with<00:36:34.605> the<00:36:34.750> enemy."<00:36:35.798> And<00:36:35.959> I<00:36:36.055> think<00:36:36.362> that's<00:36:36.764> like<00:36:37.239> same<00:36:37.706> dynamics.
00:36:38.592 --> 00:36:41.281
I<00:36:38.672> think<00:36:38.914> Mike<00:36:39.155> Tyson's<00:36:39.638> more<00:36:39.799> elementary<00:36:40.862> about<00:36:41.233> it.
00:36:41.957 --> 00:37:17.725
Um,<00:36:42.763> and<00:36:42.843> then,<00:36:43.342> and<00:36:43.423> then<00:36:43.584> I<00:36:43.664> think<00:36:43.906> there's<00:36:44.148> probably,<00:36:45.597> uh,<00:36:46.225> you<00:36:46.290> know,<00:36:46.467> one,<00:36:47.921> one<00:36:48.163> other<00:36:48.567> aspect<00:36:49.471> of<00:36:49.698> this<00:36:50.117> where,<00:36:51.393> um,<00:36:52.718> if<00:36:52.928> you—<00:36:56.478> a<00:36:56.655> leader,<00:36:58.107> uh,<00:36:58.736> good<00:36:58.995> leadership<00:36:59.705> requires—<00:37:01.092> and<00:37:01.254> maybe,<00:37:02.190> you<00:37:02.388> know,<00:37:02.718> progress<00:37:03.544> from<00:37:03.857> good<00:37:04.105> leadership<00:37:04.699> requires<00:37:06.850> simultaneous<00:37:10.916> optimism,<00:37:11.742> just<00:37:12.212> endless<00:37:12.617> optimism,<00:37:13.346> faith<00:37:13.687> for<00:37:13.784> the<00:37:13.914> future,<00:37:14.805> and<00:37:15.129> pragmatic<00:37:15.776> pessimism<00:37:16.582> to<00:37:16.823> coexist.
00:37:17.870 --> 00:37:43.009
And<00:37:17.967> so<00:37:18.998> somebody<00:37:19.577> who's<00:37:19.964> hungry<00:37:20.544> to<00:37:21.752> test<00:37:22.316> and<00:37:22.541> temper<00:37:23.105> an<00:37:23.202> idea<00:37:24.232> and<00:37:24.329> just<00:37:24.813> put,<00:37:25.529> you<00:37:25.561> know,<00:37:25.789> put<00:37:25.935> it<00:37:26.033> to<00:37:26.179> the<00:37:26.261> metal,<00:37:27.399> I<00:37:27.806> love,<00:37:28.538> I<00:37:28.700> love<00:37:28.960> that<00:37:29.188> aspect<00:37:30.083> of<00:37:30.408> watching<00:37:32.003> watching<00:37:32.404> great<00:37:32.725> leaders<00:37:33.287> work,<00:37:33.688> that<00:37:35.212> there<00:37:35.453> is<00:37:35.693> not<00:37:36.399> a<00:37:36.431> false<00:37:36.961> sense<00:37:37.442> of,<00:37:38.982> or<00:37:39.287> even<00:37:39.480> a<00:37:39.624> real<00:37:39.865> sense<00:37:40.266> of<00:37:40.587> arrogance<00:37:41.084> about<00:37:41.389> the<00:37:41.533> way<00:37:41.790> that<00:37:41.935> they<00:37:42.095> approach<00:37:42.512> their<00:37:42.737> work.
00:37:43.074 --> 00:37:55.893
This<00:37:43.314> is<00:37:44.518> about<00:37:44.758> solving<00:37:45.240> a<00:37:45.320> problem,<00:37:46.042> being<00:37:46.363> committed<00:37:46.844> to<00:37:46.940> that,<00:37:47.309> and<00:37:47.470> demonstrating<00:37:48.288> that<00:37:48.593> you<00:37:48.769> can<00:37:49.716> be<00:37:50.598> your<00:37:50.919> most<00:37:51.240> harsh<00:37:51.577> critic,<00:37:52.764> as<00:37:52.941> well<00:37:53.181> as<00:37:53.903> the<00:37:54.048> greatest<00:37:54.449> cheerleader<00:37:55.090> on<00:37:55.187> an<00:37:55.331> idea.
00:37:57.176 --> 00:38:04.943
Having—<00:37:57.674> I<00:37:57.690> mean,<00:37:58.155> that<00:37:58.380> to<00:37:58.476> me<00:37:58.701> feels<00:37:59.118> like<00:37:59.359> an<00:37:59.439> enduring<00:37:59.904> sense<00:38:00.177> of<00:38:00.305> optimism<00:38:00.963> that<00:38:01.669> matters<00:38:02.809> in<00:38:03.450> times<00:38:04.333> and<00:38:04.429> in<00:38:04.574> driving.
00:38:05.938 --> 00:38:07.542
Am<00:38:06.660> I<00:38:06.740> making<00:38:07.061> sense?
00:38:07.783 --> 00:38:08.393
Absolutely.
00:38:08.890 --> 00:38:12.212
I<00:38:09.051> love<00:38:09.291> the<00:38:10.912> what<00:38:11.137> you<00:38:11.217> do<00:38:11.458> is<00:38:11.554> who<00:38:11.698> you<00:38:11.875> are.
00:38:12.597 --> 00:38:14.683
I<00:38:12.741> can't<00:38:12.982> think<00:38:13.143> of<00:38:13.223> anything<00:38:13.624> more<00:38:13.865> true<00:38:14.186> than<00:38:14.346> that.
00:38:14.763 --> 00:38:14.988
Right.
00:38:16.272 --> 00:38:19.032
And<00:38:16.432> I<00:38:16.593> had<00:38:16.833> an<00:38:18.293> incredible<00:38:18.839> leader.
00:38:19.080 --> 00:38:20.155
His<00:38:19.128> name<00:38:19.272> is<00:38:19.417> Brandon<00:38:19.818> Craig.
00:38:20.203 --> 00:38:24.311
He<00:38:20.299> runs<00:38:20.604> a<00:38:21.519> CEO<00:38:22.064> coaching<00:38:22.530> firm<00:38:22.947> down<00:38:23.252> in<00:38:23.846> Phoenix.
00:38:25.176 --> 00:38:32.145
And<00:38:25.577> he<00:38:25.737> told<00:38:25.993> me<00:38:26.218> one<00:38:26.458> time,<00:38:26.714> and<00:38:26.810> it<00:38:26.939> stuck<00:38:27.195> with<00:38:27.355> me<00:38:27.499> forever,<00:38:27.980> he<00:38:28.092> says,<00:38:29.021> who<00:38:29.262> you<00:38:29.358> were<00:38:29.678> being<00:38:30.623> has<00:38:30.800> an<00:38:30.880> effect<00:38:31.344> outside<00:38:31.825> of<00:38:31.937> you.
00:38:32.578 --> 00:38:34.452
I<00:38:33.427> was<00:38:33.587> like,<00:38:33.763> oh,<00:38:34.004> all<00:38:34.148> right.
00:38:34.805 --> 00:38:44.833
So<00:38:34.965> like,<00:38:35.429> you<00:38:35.542> know,<00:38:35.702> if<00:38:35.846> you,<00:38:36.311> uh,<00:38:37.272> you<00:38:37.352> know,<00:38:37.592> just<00:38:37.720> stay<00:38:37.929> in<00:38:38.073> bed<00:38:38.313> all<00:38:38.473> day<00:38:39.130> and<00:38:39.210> just<00:38:39.611> ignore<00:38:39.995> the<00:38:40.091> world,<00:38:40.316> that<00:38:40.428> actually<00:38:40.700> has<00:38:40.892> an<00:38:40.973> effect<00:38:41.373> outside<00:38:41.790> of<00:38:41.950> you,<00:38:42.591> even<00:38:42.799> though<00:38:42.959> you<00:38:43.119> think<00:38:43.311> it<00:38:43.456> may<00:38:43.616> not,<00:38:44.561> right?
00:38:45.042 --> 00:38:47.861
And<00:38:45.442> because<00:38:45.699> you<00:38:45.859> got<00:38:46.339> responsibilities<00:38:47.060> and<00:38:47.285> things<00:38:47.605> like<00:38:47.701> that.
00:38:48.422 --> 00:38:54.446
Or<00:38:48.502> if<00:38:48.662> you<00:38:49.223> walk<00:38:49.479> into<00:38:49.704> a<00:38:49.784> room<00:38:50.264> and,<00:38:50.729> you<00:38:50.761> know,<00:38:51.049> you're<00:38:51.226> angry<00:38:51.706> or<00:38:52.043> super<00:38:52.411> negative,<00:38:52.748> that<00:38:52.908> has<00:38:53.068> an<00:38:53.148> effect<00:38:53.773> on<00:38:53.949> that<00:38:54.253> room.
00:38:54.590 --> 00:39:00.560
It's<00:38:54.750> kind<00:38:55.151> of—<00:38:55.231> so<00:38:56.016> I<00:38:56.498> always<00:38:56.819> love<00:38:57.060> that<00:38:57.285> whole<00:38:57.542> idea<00:38:57.798> of<00:38:57.959> like<00:38:58.120> who<00:38:58.425> you're<00:38:58.601> being<00:38:59.067> has<00:38:59.324> an<00:38:59.404> effect<00:38:59.789> outside<00:39:00.207> of<00:39:00.367> you.
00:39:00.753 --> 00:39:04.141
And<00:39:01.475> I<00:39:01.732> think<00:39:01.893> Brandon<00:39:02.278> Craig's<00:39:02.599> a<00:39:02.776> genius<00:39:03.322> for<00:39:03.418> putting<00:39:03.723> it<00:39:03.820> that<00:39:03.980> way.
00:39:04.221 --> 00:39:07.432
Or<00:39:04.301> maybe<00:39:04.590> he<00:39:04.703> wasn't<00:39:05.024> the<00:39:05.088> first<00:39:05.329> one,<00:39:05.506> but<00:39:05.827> he's<00:39:06.052> the,<00:39:06.132> he's<00:39:06.292> the<00:39:06.357> one<00:39:06.469> who<00:39:06.630> introduced<00:39:07.127> it<00:39:07.192> to<00:39:07.336> me.
00:39:08.781 --> 00:39:09.359
I<00:39:09.022> love<00:39:09.215> it.
00:39:09.600 --> 00:39:11.222
I<00:39:09.616> think<00:39:09.777> it's<00:39:09.937> a<00:39:10.001> great,<00:39:10.483> a<00:39:10.563> great<00:39:10.868> quote.
00:39:11.270 --> 00:39:18.640
And<00:39:12.009> you<00:39:12.153> see<00:39:12.410> it,<00:39:12.587> this<00:39:12.811> idea<00:39:13.438> that<00:39:14.401> what<00:39:14.578> you<00:39:14.738> do<00:39:15.043> has<00:39:15.284> impact<00:39:15.702> outside<00:39:16.167> of<00:39:16.328> you<00:39:16.504> as<00:39:16.601> a<00:39:16.729> company,<00:39:17.468> as<00:39:17.548> the<00:39:17.693> company<00:39:18.174> has<00:39:18.431> grown.
00:39:22.187 --> 00:39:32.458
In<00:39:22.267> the<00:39:22.507> early<00:39:22.828> days,<00:39:23.324> it<00:39:23.388> was<00:39:23.709> really<00:39:24.061> important<00:39:25.407> that<00:39:25.712> I<00:39:25.808> speak<00:39:26.289> first<00:39:27.330> to<00:39:27.475> help<00:39:27.811> provide<00:39:28.372> direction<00:39:29.317> and<00:39:30.134> indicate<00:39:30.840> what<00:39:31.016> the<00:39:31.160> horizon<00:39:31.657> line<00:39:31.897> looked<00:39:32.137> like.
00:39:33.419 --> 00:39:54.099
In<00:39:33.564> the<00:39:33.660> last<00:39:34.060> 18<00:39:34.461> months,<00:39:35.326> it<00:39:35.422> has<00:39:35.647> become<00:39:36.063> increasingly<00:39:36.720> more<00:39:36.945> important<00:39:37.586> that<00:39:37.810> I<00:39:37.922> speak<00:39:38.451> last<00:39:39.588> because<00:39:40.694> you're<00:39:41.736> growing<00:39:42.553> a<00:39:42.697> team,<00:39:43.098> and<00:39:43.755> as<00:39:43.899> that<00:39:44.155> team<00:39:44.460> comes<00:39:44.780> together,<00:39:46.158> you<00:39:46.254> sit<00:39:46.543> in<00:39:46.639> a<00:39:46.655> meeting<00:39:47.120> with<00:39:47.344> people<00:39:47.761> who<00:39:49.108> have<00:39:49.220> incredibly<00:39:49.830> high<00:39:50.087> intellect,<00:39:50.873> who<00:39:51.049> are<00:39:51.274> committed<00:39:51.852> to<00:39:52.093> execute<00:39:53.360> on<00:39:53.521> concepts.
00:39:54.740 --> 00:40:02.251
And<00:39:54.901> if<00:39:55.045> you<00:39:55.158> speak<00:39:55.607> too<00:39:55.784> soon,<00:39:56.730> you,<00:39:57.613> you<00:39:57.870> limit<00:39:58.271> their<00:39:58.512> ability<00:40:00.197> to<00:40:00.678> push<00:40:00.919> those<00:40:01.160> boundaries<00:40:01.705> themselves.
00:40:02.588 --> 00:40:06.792
And<00:40:03.085> in<00:40:03.182> some<00:40:03.406> sense,<00:40:03.663> you're<00:40:03.807> taking<00:40:04.128> them<00:40:04.353> out<00:40:04.465> of<00:40:04.594> the<00:40:04.690> batting<00:40:05.075> cage<00:40:05.412> before<00:40:05.733> they've<00:40:05.974> got<00:40:06.134> enough<00:40:06.375> swings.
00:40:06.857 --> 00:40:15.089
And<00:40:06.937> so<00:40:07.579> this<00:40:07.819> concept,<00:40:08.542> what<00:40:08.686> you're<00:40:08.846> talking<00:40:09.199> about,<00:40:09.906> it's<00:40:10.050> one<00:40:10.146> example<00:40:10.628> that<00:40:10.788> comes<00:40:11.029> to<00:40:11.125> mind<00:40:11.414> for<00:40:11.591> me<00:40:12.136> of<00:40:12.874> a<00:40:13.035> real<00:40:13.340> way<00:40:13.597> that<00:40:13.741> that<00:40:13.982> has<00:40:14.158> had<00:40:14.399> to<00:40:14.543> shift.
00:40:15.587 --> 00:40:18.173
Over<00:40:15.924> the<00:40:16.406> course<00:40:16.727> and<00:40:16.888> growth<00:40:17.691> of<00:40:17.852> Nursa.
00:40:19.297 --> 00:40:20.229
That's<00:40:19.538> way<00:40:19.779> interesting.
00:40:20.422 --> 00:40:21.161
Yeah,<00:40:20.952> yeah.
00:40:21.257 --> 00:40:26.204
Speaking<00:40:21.707> Latin,<00:40:22.012> when<00:40:22.173> you<00:40:22.253> get<00:40:22.349> to<00:40:22.446> the<00:40:22.590> point<00:40:22.815> where<00:40:22.895> you're<00:40:23.056> speaking<00:40:23.538> Latin,<00:40:23.779> you're<00:40:23.875> in<00:40:23.955> a<00:40:24.020> good<00:40:24.116> spot.
00:40:26.365 --> 00:40:29.031
It<00:40:26.509> certainly<00:40:27.007> is<00:40:27.088> helpful<00:40:27.409> as<00:40:27.570> a<00:40:27.650> parent.
00:40:29.240 --> 00:40:32.212
And<00:40:29.658> for<00:40:29.818> the<00:40:29.963> team,<00:40:30.461> I<00:40:30.557> think<00:40:30.798> it<00:40:30.927> is<00:40:31.103> beneficial<00:40:31.666> as<00:40:31.907> well.
00:40:32.951 --> 00:40:34.220
We<00:40:33.095> see<00:40:33.336> real<00:40:33.513> fruits<00:40:33.834> from<00:40:34.075> it.
00:40:35.183 --> 00:40:42.090
But<00:40:35.280> it<00:40:35.424> requires<00:40:36.083> a<00:40:36.227> conscious—<00:40:37.528> I<00:40:37.753> mean,<00:40:38.316> for<00:40:38.396> me,<00:40:39.311> it's<00:40:39.633> a<00:40:39.681> very<00:40:40.034> intentional<00:40:40.982> a<00:40:40.998> very<00:40:41.303> intentional<00:40:41.849> effort.
00:40:42.347 --> 00:40:52.719
And<00:40:42.491> the<00:40:42.973> team,<00:40:43.230> our<00:40:43.390> leadership<00:40:43.872> team,<00:40:44.033> does<00:40:44.209> a<00:40:44.338> great<00:40:44.594> job<00:40:45.012> of<00:40:45.783> actively<00:40:46.361> listening<00:40:46.842> in<00:40:46.987> that<00:40:47.099> same<00:40:47.709> capacity<00:40:48.432> that<00:40:49.732> I<00:40:49.797> hope<00:40:49.989> I'm<00:40:50.214> emulating<00:40:51.418> each<00:40:51.579> day<00:40:51.820> as<00:40:51.980> we<00:40:52.141> work<00:40:52.382> together.
00:40:53.265 --> 00:40:53.425
Yeah.
00:40:53.570 --> 00:40:54.934
Curtis,<00:40:53.987> I<00:40:54.067> could<00:40:54.148> talk<00:40:54.308> to<00:40:54.372> you<00:40:54.469> forever.
00:40:55.175 --> 00:40:56.781
I<00:40:55.416> want<00:40:55.545> to<00:40:55.593> be<00:40:55.673> respectful<00:40:56.074> of<00:40:56.155> your<00:40:56.315> time.
00:40:56.974 --> 00:41:05.371
So<00:40:57.664> we<00:40:57.841> end<00:40:57.985> every<00:40:58.162> interview<00:40:58.483> with<00:40:58.643> this<00:40:58.868> question,<00:41:00.169> and<00:41:00.313> that<00:41:00.490> is,<00:41:00.650> at<00:41:00.731> CEO.com,<00:41:01.614> we<00:41:01.774> believe<00:41:02.015> the<00:41:02.160> chances<00:41:02.577> one<00:41:02.898> gives<00:41:03.396> is<00:41:03.460> just<00:41:03.701> as<00:41:03.781> important<00:41:04.102> as<00:41:04.247> the<00:41:04.327> chances<00:41:04.729> one<00:41:04.905> takes.
00:41:06.174 --> 00:41:09.465
When<00:41:06.414> you<00:41:06.575> hear<00:41:06.752> that,<00:41:07.008> who<00:41:07.233> gave<00:41:07.538> you<00:41:07.715> a<00:41:07.795> chance<00:41:08.277> to<00:41:08.373> get<00:41:08.582> you<00:41:08.678> to<00:41:08.759> where<00:41:08.903> you<00:41:09.080> are<00:41:09.224> today?
00:41:10.924 --> 00:41:14.738
Yeah,<00:41:12.527> I've<00:41:13.104> got<00:41:13.248> maybe<00:41:13.568> two<00:41:13.889> thoughts<00:41:14.354> on<00:41:14.530> this.
00:41:14.915 --> 00:41:24.083
I<00:41:15.011> think<00:41:15.957> recently<00:41:16.518> I<00:41:16.598> had<00:41:16.774> the<00:41:16.854> chance,<00:41:17.720> and<00:41:18.281> this<00:41:18.457> is<00:41:18.617> a<00:41:18.761> bit<00:41:19.883> of<00:41:19.980> the<00:41:20.124> dynamic<00:41:20.637> for<00:41:20.765> me<00:41:21.021> about<00:41:21.406> Utah<00:41:21.887> and<00:41:22.624> why<00:41:22.865> Utah<00:41:23.169> is<00:41:23.426> important.
00:41:24.692 --> 00:41:32.032
I<00:41:25.333> went<00:41:25.509> to<00:41:25.589> the<00:41:25.734> Golden<00:41:26.054> Spike<00:41:27.577> Monument,<00:41:29.035> and<00:41:29.180> I<00:41:29.212> started<00:41:29.596> to<00:41:29.740> look<00:41:30.301> at<00:41:30.462> Utah<00:41:30.782> history<00:41:31.199> after<00:41:31.439> visiting<00:41:31.920> there.
00:41:32.866 --> 00:41:38.187
You<00:41:32.898> know,<00:41:33.026> we're<00:41:33.122> the<00:41:33.363> first,<00:41:34.966> we're<00:41:35.062> the<00:41:35.206> place<00:41:35.911> that<00:41:36.088> connects<00:41:36.632> the<00:41:36.665> nation<00:41:37.209> with<00:41:37.434> the<00:41:37.530> railroad.
00:41:40.382 --> 00:41:52.483
Almost,<00:41:41.433> you<00:41:41.465> know,<00:41:41.675> almost<00:41:42.177> a<00:41:42.193> century<00:41:42.807> later,<00:41:43.535> we're<00:41:43.648> the<00:41:43.794> first—<00:41:45.087> a<00:41:45.411> little<00:41:45.637> more<00:41:45.896> than<00:41:45.993> a<00:41:46.041> century<00:41:46.543> later,<00:41:47.093> we're<00:41:47.190> the<00:41:47.270> first<00:41:47.756> state<00:41:48.225> to<00:41:48.386> put<00:41:49.292> money<00:41:49.614> on<00:41:49.759> the<00:41:49.856> table<00:41:51.048> to<00:41:51.226> build<00:41:51.870> the<00:41:52.015> freeways.
00:41:52.982 --> 00:41:58.027
The<00:41:53.063> freeway<00:41:53.482> projects,<00:41:54.433> the<00:41:54.530> national<00:41:55.078> defense<00:41:55.577> budget,<00:41:56.947> that<00:41:57.189> began<00:41:57.672> here.
00:42:00.396 --> 00:42:05.698
And<00:42:00.654> that<00:42:01.701> led<00:42:02.104> to<00:42:02.894> connective<00:42:03.394> tissue<00:42:03.797> across<00:42:04.200> the<00:42:04.345> country,<00:42:04.844> both<00:42:05.166> of<00:42:05.328> those.
00:42:06.283 --> 00:42:22.825
That<00:42:06.588> enabled<00:42:08.194> the<00:42:08.290> Utah<00:42:09.816> education<00:42:10.458> backbone,<00:42:11.663> the<00:42:11.808> internet<00:42:12.370> coming<00:42:12.707> to<00:42:12.932> Utah<00:42:13.895> to<00:42:14.554> be<00:42:14.939> as<00:42:15.180> prolific<00:42:15.919> as<00:42:16.080> it<00:42:16.305> was<00:42:16.802> and<00:42:16.883> help<00:42:17.124> create<00:42:17.670> the<00:42:17.766> space<00:42:19.051> that<00:42:19.212> we,<00:42:19.613> that<00:42:19.774> we<00:42:19.999> have<00:42:20.240> today,<00:42:21.605> both<00:42:21.846> of<00:42:21.942> us<00:42:22.167> to<00:42:22.327> build<00:42:22.649> on.
00:42:23.548 --> 00:42:25.395
I<00:42:23.628> think<00:42:23.853> it's<00:42:24.014> such<00:42:24.191> an<00:42:24.287> incredible<00:42:24.833> testament.
00:42:26.118 --> 00:42:30.149
I<00:42:26.182> get<00:42:26.343> to<00:42:26.439> look<00:42:26.680> out<00:42:26.841> my<00:42:27.001> window<00:42:27.322> every<00:42:27.563> day<00:42:28.672> at<00:42:28.784> those<00:42:29.314> railroad<00:42:29.716> tracks.
00:42:30.631 --> 00:42:32.028
They<00:42:30.840> run<00:42:31.016> right<00:42:31.193> in<00:42:31.322> front<00:42:31.482> of<00:42:31.563> our<00:42:31.739> building.
00:42:33.264 --> 00:42:41.412
And<00:42:33.360> it's<00:42:33.841> a<00:42:33.905> solid<00:42:34.451> reminder<00:42:35.012> that<00:42:35.189> no<00:42:35.333> man<00:42:36.648> is<00:42:36.729> self-made,<00:42:38.140> that<00:42:38.317> this<00:42:38.557> is—<00:42:38.798> we<00:42:38.942> stand<00:42:39.423> on<00:42:39.520> the<00:42:39.600> shoulders<00:42:40.562> of<00:42:40.642> generations.
00:42:42.150 --> 00:42:44.348
And<00:42:42.391> I<00:42:42.551> love<00:42:43.305> that<00:42:43.450> we<00:42:43.530> get<00:42:43.754> that<00:42:44.011> gift.
00:42:45.695 --> 00:42:52.528
It<00:42:45.775> also<00:42:47.203> helps<00:42:47.460> illustrate<00:42:48.807> how<00:42:49.064> many<00:42:49.465> people<00:42:50.186> I<00:42:50.267> think<00:42:50.507> I<00:42:50.588> could<00:42:50.908> answer<00:42:51.229> this<00:42:51.454> question<00:42:52.272> with.
00:42:53.314 --> 00:42:54.726
There<00:42:53.555> are<00:42:54.341> dozens.
00:42:55.480 --> 00:43:06.638
But<00:42:55.624> one<00:42:55.736> of<00:42:55.865> the<00:42:56.041> early<00:42:56.346> indicators<00:42:56.988> for<00:42:57.100> me,<00:42:57.565> one<00:42:57.726> of<00:42:57.870> the<00:42:57.966> early<00:42:58.383> illustrations<00:42:59.105> of<00:42:59.249> this<00:42:59.554> for<00:42:59.650> me,<00:43:00.999> In<00:43:01.160> Idaho,<00:43:01.594> there's<00:43:01.963> a<00:43:02.140> legislation<00:43:03.345> to<00:43:03.811> help<00:43:04.293> enable<00:43:04.871> kids<00:43:05.273> to<00:43:05.417> be<00:43:05.578> able<00:43:05.739> to<00:43:05.915> work<00:43:06.156> on<00:43:06.301> the<00:43:06.381> farm.
00:43:06.735 --> 00:43:07.570
It's<00:43:06.879> a<00:43:06.960> work<00:43:07.201> release.
00:43:08.711 --> 00:43:12.824
You<00:43:08.807> can<00:43:08.903> still<00:43:09.112> graduate<00:43:09.514> from<00:43:09.626> high<00:43:09.771> school,<00:43:10.719> get<00:43:10.880> a<00:43:10.960> half<00:43:11.201> day<00:43:11.378> of<00:43:11.538> work<00:43:11.844> in<00:43:12.084> and<00:43:12.566> help.
00:43:13.707 --> 00:43:17.531
It<00:43:13.787> was<00:43:13.948> born<00:43:14.671> out<00:43:14.751> of<00:43:14.848> a<00:43:14.912> need<00:43:15.298> to<00:43:15.458> help<00:43:15.651> facilitate<00:43:16.583> agricultural<00:43:17.242> growth.
00:43:18.511 --> 00:43:24.166
I<00:43:19.009> had<00:43:19.105> a<00:43:19.250> teacher<00:43:19.876> in<00:43:20.037> high<00:43:20.214> school,<00:43:21.419> graduated<00:43:22.142> with,<00:43:23.025> you<00:43:23.106> know,<00:43:23.186> 52<00:43:23.828> people.
00:43:24.246 --> 00:43:37.208
So<00:43:25.098> it's<00:43:25.371> a<00:43:25.435> small,<00:43:25.933> small<00:43:26.254> school,<00:43:26.801> but<00:43:27.283> a<00:43:27.363> teacher<00:43:27.684> in<00:43:27.829> high<00:43:27.925> school<00:43:28.391> who<00:43:28.712> leveraged<00:43:29.210> that<00:43:29.515> legislation<00:43:30.318> to<00:43:30.559> turn<00:43:30.896> the<00:43:30.977> entire<00:43:31.683> district's<00:43:32.824> IT<00:43:33.386> support<00:43:34.430> staff<00:43:35.393> into<00:43:35.699> a<00:43:35.715> student-led<00:43:36.662> exercise.
00:43:37.706 --> 00:43:50.266
He<00:43:37.787> was<00:43:37.947> the<00:43:38.108> only<00:43:39.072> district<00:43:39.634> IT<00:43:40.051> employee<00:43:41.577> that<00:43:41.722> was<00:43:41.963> over<00:43:42.203> the<00:43:42.380> age<00:43:42.605> of<00:43:42.701> 18,<00:43:43.986> and<00:43:44.131> for<00:43:44.308> 4<00:43:44.693> years—<00:43:45.255> you<00:43:45.335> started<00:43:45.689> your<00:43:45.833> freshman<00:43:46.315> year—<00:43:47.182> he<00:43:47.423> would,<00:43:47.825> he<00:43:47.921> would<00:43:48.146> help<00:43:48.339> facilitate<00:43:49.126> through<00:43:49.286> a<00:43:49.303> number<00:43:49.688> of<00:43:49.849> grants.
00:43:50.314 --> 00:44:02.503
He<00:43:50.395> was<00:43:50.636> always<00:43:51.117> getting<00:43:51.374> grants,<00:43:52.402> but<00:43:52.499> he<00:43:52.643> would<00:43:52.756> help<00:43:52.981> facilitate<00:43:53.703> your<00:43:53.928> ability<00:43:54.587> to<00:43:54.667> become<00:43:55.085> an<00:43:55.229> IT<00:43:56.273> support<00:43:56.819> rep,<00:43:57.156> and<00:43:57.301> then<00:43:57.943> you<00:43:58.023> could<00:43:58.184> work<00:43:58.425> your<00:43:58.521> way<00:43:58.762> up<00:43:58.923> through<00:43:59.099> any<00:43:59.260> number<00:43:59.645> of<00:43:59.870> positions,<00:44:00.930> but<00:44:00.994> treated<00:44:01.395> it<00:44:01.492> like<00:44:01.668> an<00:44:01.813> organization.
00:44:03.900 --> 00:44:09.296
His<00:44:04.141> name<00:44:04.366> was<00:44:04.462> Darrell<00:44:04.703> Mock,<00:44:05.907> and<00:44:06.052> he<00:44:06.245> made<00:44:06.726> a<00:44:06.791> great<00:44:07.112> deal<00:44:07.288> of<00:44:07.433> difference<00:44:07.834> in<00:44:07.995> my<00:44:08.155> life<00:44:08.477> in<00:44:08.621> this<00:44:08.782> respect.
00:44:10.323 --> 00:44:14.867
He<00:44:10.548> enabled<00:44:11.527> a<00:44:11.592> space<00:44:12.475> that<00:44:12.635> I<00:44:12.716> could<00:44:12.957> learn<00:44:14.081> from<00:44:14.402> failures.
00:44:16.088 --> 00:44:23.667
He<00:44:16.248> facilitated<00:44:17.372> the<00:44:17.469> money<00:44:18.095> and<00:44:18.432> institutional<00:44:19.797> enablement<00:44:20.504> that<00:44:20.680> I<00:44:20.921> needed<00:44:21.242> to<00:44:21.467> educate<00:44:21.884> myself<00:44:22.382> about<00:44:22.671> what<00:44:22.848> computers<00:44:23.474> were.
00:44:24.052 --> 00:44:36.807
What<00:44:24.229> the<00:44:24.389> internet<00:44:24.774> was<00:44:25.159> and<00:44:25.319> why<00:44:25.512> it<00:44:25.737> mattered,<00:44:26.619> why<00:44:26.779> it<00:44:27.004> would<00:44:27.181> matter<00:44:27.566> for<00:44:27.887> years<00:44:28.143> to<00:44:28.304> come,<00:44:29.587> and<00:44:29.732> set<00:44:30.004> me<00:44:30.213> on<00:44:30.309> a<00:44:30.389> course<00:44:31.015> to<00:44:31.176> be<00:44:32.090> able<00:44:32.636> to<00:44:32.876> work<00:44:33.999> to<00:44:34.144> solve<00:44:34.481> problems<00:44:34.978> at<00:44:35.106> the<00:44:35.203> capacity<00:44:35.908> that<00:44:36.069> we<00:44:36.165> can<00:44:36.550> today.
00:44:37.449 --> 00:44:39.246
And<00:44:37.673> I<00:44:38.411> am<00:44:38.572> most<00:44:38.877> grateful.
00:44:39.759 --> 00:44:42.872
I'm<00:44:39.919> most<00:44:40.160> grateful<00:44:40.818> that<00:44:40.978> I<00:44:41.123> get<00:44:41.299> to<00:44:41.379> stand<00:44:41.845> on<00:44:41.941> Darryl<00:44:42.246> Mock's<00:44:42.422> shoulders.
